Sachsenring MotoGP

Are welcome to the Sachsenring circuit in Germany for round eight

of the MotoGP world championship, a race that could prove truly pivotal

in the outcome of the title chase. We saw a massive game changer last

time in a race that will go down as one of the most memorable in the

long history of the sport. arrived for the weekend very

positive. I felt very strong in the first practice. I was too confident

for the conditions. There was a drag on the second practice. I had

a little bit of risk. Too fast in one corner. I knew my collar bone

was broken. I thought the Championship was over. In Barcelona,

I had an operation. After the operation, I feel better. I started

thinking to race on Saturday. know I have a special chance to try

for the victory. Because my team- mate, especially the rider who won

the last two races, was not 100%. We are ready to race in Holland!

You cannot keep him down, Jorge Lorenzo, right in the hunt.

Valentino Rossi. He takes the lead. The moment I go in front, and until

the eighth lap to the end, it was the more difficult because I at a

push without making mistakes but always Pedrosa was coming with me.

enough to take avoiding action not to take us both out. It was the

last lap and I tried to defend my position. Jorge Lorenzo, an

absolute champions' innings at the crease, managing to bring back home

in fifth place. I finished really emotional. I was crying on the bike.

It was the best race in my life. This was better than any other

victory. COMMENTATOR: Valentino Rossi is

back. He wins the Dutch Grand Prix. It was a great and Sweet emotion.

It was a great feeling. It looks like a good movie. With a happy end.

Hard to put it any better. Unfortunately, the sequel has not

had the same happy ending and there has been bad luck for Jorge Lorenzo

in BOX 13 this week. On Friday afternoon. There was a big high

side in turn tend. -- 10. He had further surgery in Barcelona on

Friday night and revealed last night he will be out of the next

race at Laguna Seca or. That is not the end of the bad news. Even

though he sent his best wishes to Lorenzo, things turned against Dani

Pedrosa must have felt like winning the lottery when Lorenza went out,

and now it is like he has lost his ticket. It was extraordinary, to

think that a Dani Pedrosa, who has won hear the last three times,

leading the Championship, and it was a free-kick. The impossible

happened. Instead, it was an own goal. I don't know whether you have

tried to bend a piece of titanium. I am sure for the people at home,

Cal Crutchlow fans will think it is a time to step up. It will be a big

ask, even though he is second on the grid, he had tumbles this

weekend. 130 miles per hour. He lost the front on turn 11. He hit

the ground. He tried to get away from the bike and then he tried to

slow himself down, taking the skin from his hands, trying to slow

himself down. Unfortunately, you need the palm of your hand to ride

a motorcycle. Crutchlow is a tough cookie. We saw him at Silverstone

last week with a broken dislocated ankle. Last night he said this was

the worst he had felt going into a race. He crashed twice on the same

row in fourth place. It is a big chance for a first podium for the

young German. You have been on the pace all weekend and might have

been on the front row were it for a small mistake. Is this a good

chance to go for the podium? chance is there. We will see what

will happen. You never know. It will be a long race. The early laps,

so much. I will try to go with them, having a good start. I think that

the pace is good. We will see that... I think nobody has been

experienced with a really used -- use tyre. Stefan Bradl playing down

his chances. Maybe the crash took pressure off him. There is an

element of that. When he came in from qualifying, he was furious

with himself. Crashing as he did. He was the fastest at the end of

day one. That is no mean feat. was one of 15 over the course of

the weekend. It has been ridiculous. 16 crashers. All but Jorge Lorenzo

have been on the right side. We need to call turn 11 than $1

finish up battered and bruised. This track is one of the most

unnatural you go to. There are three turns. They go one way and

the rest of the track goes the other way and there are elevation

changes. It is like a booby trap. lot of riders with injuries. The

top two will not be there. You would have to think something has

to be done at this circuit. It is a topic of conversation. There were

too many crashes. When you are on the track, especially at turn 11,

you are waiting for the yellow flag. After, you try not to crash. It is

too much. For me, the problem is between the track and the tyres.

This track is on the left. Three corners on the right. Except Jorge

Lorenzo, who crashed on the left, the others were on the right. We

have to work together with Bridgestone and improve and perhaps

make a different front tyre to avoid the problem. The track is not

dangerous more than any other track. The problem is that it is left.

left-hand corners. Were there tyres good enough? Definitely. There are

not many right-handed corners. Those we brought our design to work

over the widest range. There was talk about introducing dual

standout performer in qualifying is on the second row of the grid. Aleix

Espargaro, his best qualifying today. The combination of you and

this brilliant bike just seems to be getting better? Yes. I am really

happy. The last races were unbelievable. All races were better

and better. The gap between the top riders is less race by race. I enjoy

a lot riding on this bike on this track. I will try to do my best

today. About the track, horsepower and not so important. It gives you

an opportunity to get a good result? Yes. Our bike is easy to handle.

Really good handling. I will try my best. In the corners I will push as

hard as I can. Good luck. Bradley Smith has qualified seventh. He has

actually finished in the top ten in the last five consecutive races. So

consistently doing well here in his debut year in MotoGP. Bradley, fifth

fastest in the warmup as well. The gap to the front is closing. What is

your feeling? Obviously the temperatures getting up. We have

gone with a hard tyre in the front. That is the same as everybody. The

aim is to just focus on getting a good start. Try and make a couple of

places before we get to the first corner and hang in there as long as

we can. We are starting from a bread qualifying spot. This weekend has

gone well. We have taken advantage of more confidence and the fact the

injury is not affecting me as much. 30 laps between me and the finish

line so I have to keep concentrating. You have had the skin

graft. Your fingers permanently bent like that. Is it going to hold you

back? We're not 100%. The wrist is obviously weak after five weeks of

not being able to use it. I can say it has affected my performance on

through to qualifying to yesterday for the first time. An excellent

week? Yes. Unexpected and unbelievable. When I saw the lap

time and I realised, I was a bit scared, maybe? Good practice. This

morning we tried the hard tire. Maybe it will be better for the

race. If we finish in the top six, we will be OK. I believe there are a

few modifications to the chassis. Is that the difference? Yes. The new

part they brought us is working well. Hopefully for all the race

him. But not for the first time this weekend, Alex is a little bit

promoted one position. He would have been 13th on the grid. With Dani

Pedrosa not fit to take his place, he is in 12th. It has been a

difficult and bruising week and for all of the riders. I believe

particularly for the rookie, Bryan Staring. Yes, three crashes over the

weekend. Unfortunately, the last one came in qualifying. That explains

why you are at the back of the grid. We have got so much competition

behind us! It has been a difficult weekend update here. We remain

positive we can have a good race from here. The feeling is getting

better with the bike. We have sold a lot of issues. Growing with

confidence. Keep building for the rest of the season. It is a

difficult track. What do you make of it? I've enjoyed the circuit. At

who has had his best qualifying of the year so far? Yes, that's right.

He would have qualified 16th. Bumped up to 15th. Michael Laverty. We have

It should be a good battle? I think so. I think even De Puniet could be

involved. Espargaro is ahead of us, obviously. We have worked quite well

It seems like you're not a proper MotoGP rider unless you are injured

this weekend. Look at Paddy, almost went over! Everybody from 12th back

has been boosted one position. Not so Andrei Dovizioso. He was weighed

down in warm up this morning. Nicky Hayden on the other Ducati likes

this circuit. You can expect a strong performance. Look out for

Stefan Bradl. In fourth place. He has been second-tier twice before.

We are getting thrown off in a rather unceremonious manner. This is

the front row. Marc Marquez on pole position. Cal Crutchlow was fighting

for a podium last year. He eventually got run off track by

fighting with Dovizioso. Came back and finished eighth. Valentino

Rossi, four times a MotoGP winner at this circuit. In 2006, he did it

from 11th on the grid. Looking to do it from the front row this time.

Let's all of these boys can stay safe out there today. They are

races, of course. When the lights go out, there is only one thing on

their minds. Just try to keep more attention on the right. Doesn't

change the strategy. You go as fast as you can. You push, you push. You

cannot go slow. The championship is very long. We have a chance to

concentrate Sunday by Sunday and try concentrate Sunday by Sunday and try

to take as many points as possible. Well, there is a lot to think

about, Cal Crutchlow. You would have two say that if he can get over that

that? It looked pretty good. Bradl tried to ride round. Crutchlow has

not made a cracking start. He's started second, but he is not

second now. CRT in a notional podium position. And he has softer

tyres. The Doctor leads. Just what was ordered by the doctored.

Valentino Rossi. He has a good chance of a back-to-back winner

from Assen. This is a dream for the local fans. Either Stefan Bradl

wings or Valentino Rossi wins. Either way, it will be a popular

result. So much can happen here. We are through turn 11 for the first

Bradl. The German mind and went over the line, a leading. Marc

Marquez was trying to make a move on Espargaro. He does not know the

crash in that corner. Sometimes you have to be patient. The fastest lap

to Valentino Rossi. The lap record is 21.8. After 15, but tyres will

start to go off. The degradation will probably be more. Crutchlow

slid. We know there is nobody out there better than bringing home a

tyre than Valentino Rossi. He will have to. Number 93, Marquez. He has

started to stretch the gap on number six in second place, Stefan

a look and ride with Cal Crutchlow. His childhood hero in front of him,

Valentino Rossi. He still wants to get past him. I am wondering, and I

am sure you are, if Jorge Lorenzo does not get to race at Laguna Seca

in one week... Cal is running behind Rossi. Very, close -- very, very

close. Rossi is making Cal Crutchlow ride the very long way around if he

wants to get past. There are only two places where you are running on

the centre line on these tyres. at that. I would like to see those

eyes. There is a lot of focus going on. Mr Crutchlow will be trying to

force the doctor into a mistake. That will be a tough thing to do. He

has been in this position many times. A podium position would be

really cool for Cal Crutchlow. It will mean a change in the

championship standings if he remains behind Valentino Rossi. Crutchlow is

fourth and Rossi was fifth at the moment. But that would be reversed.

Major movement from Cal Crutchlow. He is riding on the limit. Trying to

line it up. Izzy close enough? Calor has an interesting issue, of

course, with the placement of the fuel tank on this bike. Yes. For the

first time ever they found the bike was not handling as well when they

feel load gets light. -- when the fuel load. That is something that

Yamaha could help out with in theory. Dovizioso making a move on

Espargaro. Espada role will have that softer rear tire. What a run he

had in those first few laps. What a treat to be able to do it on a bike.

I'm inspired. I want to get a sidecar. You would not come on it

with me! Rumour has it there are a different cylinder heads on the

bikes of Espargaro and De Puniet. That is what the word is. We have

not been able to find out. It definitely seems to have a little

bit more polished than what they had at the -- in the past. You try out

breaking Valentino Rossi. I don't know where Cal Crutchlow is going to

find an opportunity. That is assuming that their tyres wear out

in unison. This is redolent of the days when Crutchlow and Dovizioso

team-mates. Crutchlow could follow Dovizioso have a will behind for an

entire race but just could not crack him. Slithering and sliding through

brakes. I get the feeling that he could get through but he does not

want to slam of the inside. And he has got a real good run! This time

he has got it X Mac --! Turned 13. My goodness! Cal Crutchlow bided his

time. He was being held up and he mulled the doctor. It was a brave

move. He got that run through turn 11. The corner that bit him earlier

on in the week. Valentino had no option whatsoever. That pace --

pastorally started way before that. -- that pass really started. Mark is

putting on the pressure. He is 2.8 seconds ahead of Cal Crutchlow.

watch this guy. The front tyre is on the curve. It is being speared --

steered by that spinning rear wheel, doing about 12 kilometres more than

the front tyre. All the body weight. It is like being a tightrope. He

shifts his body in and out, trying to keep it teetering on the point of

traction. 14 laps. It would be a Herculean task to try to chip away

three seconds. Great lap from Cal Crutchlow. At 22 dead he has just

taken four tenths of a second out of Marc Marquez. Yes. That is a

Herculean effort. Cal Crutchlow got swallowed at the start. Loco brave

Espargaro was. -- look how brave. This is Bradl. A corker of a start

for him. Absolute stomp of a start for Stefan Bradl. Poetry. Yes, it is

the first lap. It is like Riverdance on motorcycles! Superb. It is still

2.4 seconds that Cal Crutchlow is behind Marc Marquez. Bradley Smith

running good in sixth. 2.1. So, now we have a race going on. Who is the

faster towards the end of the race? Cal Crutchlow. He did say the bike

was not steering quite as well when the fuel load went down. It is not

doing him any home at the moment. -- harm. It's feasible that Mark is

could respond. Could this be Cal Crutchlow's first elusive win in

MotoGP? We have all thought he is capable of this year. Maybe needed

the right conditions. There are a couple of fast MotoGP riders not out

here today. He would have liked them to be here. But I will take it, he

will take it, you will take it and the whole of Great Britain will take

it. His first win will come. That's what's this gap. It has stabilised

across the last lap. Mark is responding a little bit. Where is it

up to now? He has taken a little bit back. Markets will have seen the

time. There are two options. Mark is doesn't go any faster and Crutchlow

catches him. Or Marquez makes a mistake by trying to go faster. Who

knows? These guys will be tired, they would be saw. This is the time

when you are going to find out who has looked after the tyres. Nicky

according to where the tyres are at. If you can, out of ten and hold the

inside more, you sacrifice it a little bit to get 11 straightened

out a little more. Marquez has responded to these lap times. It is

easing up one iota. We saw Rossi kick up some dust while ago. Rossi

still on track for a podium. So is Cal Crutchlow. Bradley Smith still

that is not expected to be as good. Anybody who tells me that Crutchlow

has not been converted into an alien, they are an idiot. He is

carrying a lot of injury. His father said when he was... He has

been dressing up his arm, he actually passed out trying to get

one off after the accident. It is it must be embarrassing when the

CRTs are fast. He said it was a proper bike. I watched him raised

performance of Espargaro in qualifying, it was fastest in

sector to and sector three. In this first sector, up the hill, not. It

is the fiddly bits. That is where wrong. It is extraordinary. He was

the person we thought would be in the A&E department more than the

others. It is the experienced guys who are injured and he is riding

around. He has been... I will touch wood. He has been one of the few

who has not crashed this week. There were 16 across the weekend.

And he is the rookie. He is the one who should be the wildest. 2.3, bat

ears locked in battle -- that is locked in battle. If he had a back

to back and win after Assen, he would be the oldest back-to-back

winner since 1971. Who thought we would say that about Valentino

Rossi. One of the more senior riders now. He is one of the oldest

in this field. Look at that angle. You would not been that is possible.

I cannot explain how it happens. It is a lot of grip, a brave chassis

more grip and lean angle you have, the higher you are fired into the

air. When we saw Dani Pedrosa turn right, it was like he had died into

an empty swimming pool. 12 feet, head first. -- dived. Marquez is

a constant two seconds ahead... Behind Marquez and three ahead of

Alain de De Rossi. Everybody is holding station now. It is about

bringing it home. -- Valentino section. A really bad section. I

think he has had a big slide somewhere. Six laps to go in. He

slide, I said he had not put anything wrong. Does he have issues

with the tyres. Again, the music from Jaws comes into play for Cal

Crutchlow. Marquez. It has chewed up on the right-hand side.

The soft compound. They get three goes at it. It has to be super soft

to be used for. We have a race.At this rate of degradation, Cal

Crutchlow will be all over him in a couple of laps unless Marquez can

pull something out of the back. -- sixth place. Cal Crutchlow will be

thinking. Realistically, am I going to close him down? He will know he

is on the limit of and fusion. -- well, that is a no-no. Valentino

Rossi has given up on anything he can do. He was lower even than

Stefan Bradl last time. Valentino Rossi is a computer. He works out

exactly where he is at and what is possible. That is the gap. Number

67, about to be lapped. Bryan Staring. He is through. That was

lucky. Bryan Staring was a good boy and he got out of the road. That

was smart from him. This has been copybook for the young Spaniard,

Marquez. In fact, all weekend. While the big guns have slipped and

slid down the road, he has been reliable and pretty used very fast.

But what a tremendous ride from Cal Crutchlow. First or second. A

machine that is definitely... It is below the standard of the full

factory machine. His engineer does a great job putting it together.

Everybody has worked so hard in the team to put a good motorcycle

underneath him. It is interesting the way Marquez has approached this.

He was judicious across the weekend. Free practice one, for fast as,

third fastest in the next session. It was not until the first session

on the second day, when he really stretch his legs and went quickest.

Very smart. The reason was that he had not been ridden a MotoGP bike

around here before. That is Bryan Staring. It has been one of those

weekends. I bet he went wide to let someone through and got on to the

dirty part of the track. It is easily done but very gentlemanly of

him to run out and let the others to come through. Marquez said the

first part of track was not that different, but the last part was.

He said the scenery came at him so much faster. The last turn of the

penultimate lap. All he has to do is bring it home from here. He has

a second and a half over Cal Crutchlow, who is doing a

sensational job. And Valentino Rossi, he is no slouch. Looking at

a podium. And a good ride from Stefan Bradl. Still the elusive

podium for him. I thought that this was his best shot. He is in his

second year. Espargaro. He does not know when he is beaten. 29 seconds

back at the finish of the race, which is terrific. When we started

out we thought, they are getting lapped, they are in the way. He

would have thought that Espargaro could run third for a few laps of a

MotoGP race and mix it with the factory bikes? If he is watching in

hospital, I think Dani Pedrosa will need a defibrillator. His team-mate

has mugged him. He has lost an enormous lead over his team-mate

and an O K one A over Jorge Lorenzo. -- OK one over. Marquez strolls

over in Germany. Cal Crutchlow and Valentino Rossi. Spare a thought

for Stefan Bradl. He rode well. He could not crack it. He will be

frustrated. Bautista, and useful for him, fifth. Cal Crutchlow eight

seconds ahead of Valentino Rossi. They get on well, Marquez and Cal

Crutchlow. They will have fun in the front-row press conference.

Local will be looking at -- that Cal will look forward to rest his

hands. It is a tremendous achievement for the organisers and

riders. Valentino Rossi, going, how did you do that?! He is a big man.

He will be more than happy to pass on congratulations to the team that

has beaten him. I cannot wait for the British Grand Prix. We will

have a treat with Cal Crutchlow on terrific form. It is sensational

for the Championship. Basically, they are jammed in together. It is

very close. They are really close together. Cal Crutchlow is second.

His second second. Indeed. First Yamaha home. It was a building

right, given the injury. We have his team manager with us.

What did you make of that? The best ride yet?

In the position he was, it is a long graze, and you follow every

movement and look at the tyres and everything. It was a long race, but

it was exciting. To be the first Yamaha in the race, beating

Valentino, it means something. He had crashes on Friday. He was not

100% fit. He gave everything. He was angry with himself after Assen.

We thought he missed an opportunity. Today, he did an incredible show.

It is a shame about the first few laps. He was catching a bit of

Marquez. He got a second on him. Marquez was signalled by his team,

but he kept the gap. Definitely, Crutchlow, he is on the move and

should be a MotoGP winner. And a word from -- about his team-mate,

Bradley Smith. It was his best yet, for sure. The same as Catalunya,

but stronger. No pressures in front and very consistent. Lapping the

same as Bautista. Altogether, Cal and Bradley had a great weekend. We

from Cal Crutchlow. Not only has my case just made it to the lead in the

championship, but Cal Crutchlow himself is only 31 points adrift.

Talk about contracts and everything else. Cal Crutchlow will be on the

top of wonder to wanted lists. This guy, Marc Marquez, he is the

superstar of the future. Yes, he certainly is. He has ridden with

maturity all weekend. All season. Just that one little steak at

Mugello. I think Valentino probably expected a little better than that.

He probably did. But we have all expected more than we have had at

times. A lot of it was about Cal Crutchlow. His pass on turn 11 was

about gritting your teeth. Very fast to the end. Valentino explaining the

big slide he had. Crutchlow had a very similar one. It was a good save

from Valentino Rossi. There isn't much he doesn't do that isn't

excellent. Sensational to see Valentino on the podium again. Cal

Crutchlow has done a jolly good job. Your manager has called you --

College best ride yet. You could not quite get the top spot at the end

but it must've been good to beat Valentino? Yes. Directly took a good

start. I know it didn't look like it! The first five laps, me and

Valentino are exactly the same. How we didn't crash I don't know. It

seems to me that the few will issue we have... I was pleased to be in

sixth or seventh. Just let Mark getaway. Well done to him. He wrote

a great race. Even if Dani Pedrosa and Jorge Lorenzo were here I think

this would have been the result. We're faster than last year. I think

we made a massive step over three years here. This was my worst ever

result in 2011 here. I didn't have a good race last year. Today, I was

really pleased. I gave my all in the physical condition I was in. I am

really pleased. I can go away from here happy and have some rest.

have had a great weekend. Kept consistent. Didn't make any

mistakes. Just tried to creep up on it and steadily improved. It was

always going to be tough coming here, especially with the left-hand

circuit and my wrist. But very happy with the performance. 25 seconds

away from the leader at the end of the race. We are improving every

time. Still a lot of work to do as always. I'm really happy. Well done.

Unfortunately, after a good start, I started to slide very early. I tried

to stay with Mark but I could not. I was not fast enough. I know that we

had to suffer with a lot of laps. But I expect a little better. Cal

Crutchlow did a great result. Anyway, it is important. We have to

work and improve. Laguna Seca is a good one for you? Yes, it is a great

track. It would be very important to try to do a good result over there.

has been eased out a little bit. has been eased out a little bit.

Marc Marquez made it look easy. You were handed a great opportunity

to go out there and take the lead and you did it with an incredibly

mature right. How do you feel? we did a very good race. It was

completely different to the other race. The other races I tried to

follow the other riders. In this race I was able to make that step.

This victory is so important. 25 points are important. It is the

second victory. But in essence I was a little bit more happy. We hope for

a great recovery for Danny and Corday -- George. I am happy.

what, that was really, really hard work for Marc Marquez to chip away

like that and get a result like that. But Marquez is a bit like

Espargaro. You can put him out to stud. They make very fast riders,

performance? Amazing. The race was incredible. His start was not

perfect. But the past Valentino. He go all the race lonely. To go every

lap the same is difficult. Where does this talent come from? For me,

Interestingly, Cal Crutchlow thought the pace would have been as hard on

the matter who was out there. We were never know that answer.

That is frustrating. There are swings and roundabouts. It is such a

cruel sport. The tiniest little mistake throws it down on the road

and breaks collarbone. 16 crashes this weekend. I am going to invest

in carbon fibre and titanium, the amount of sparks I have seen flying

around stop --. This will be a great, delightful

crowd that Valentino Rossi is on the podium. They would love to have had

Stefan Bradl up there. That is not to be. A marvellous job by Rossi.

Interestingly as well, with the great work being done by Marquez in

assisting and supporting Dani Pedrosa, Honda is leading the team

championship really convincingly as well. Repsol Honda Team 274 against

Yamaha racing two to eight. In the constructors championship, Honda is

only four points behind. That has got a lot to do with this man,
