Hello and welcome to NFL This Week.

It's the halfway point in the not

so regular season as 12 of the 32

teams look to secure their playoff

berth by New Years Eve.

Joining me once again to look

through the best of the action

our two-time Super Bowl winner

Osi Umenyiora and former

NFL corner Jason Bell.

In true Halloween fashion,

mention Brock Osweiller in Houston

and they'll tell you a horror story.

This summer, barely a year

into a $72 million deal, the Texans

desperately went looking for someone

crazy enough to take

on the quarterback's

sizeable contract.

When all looked lost,

Cleveland answered the phone!

The Browns...

I don't do it deliberately,

this is how it pans out.

The Browns thought they'd bagged

a treat, trading away a fourth

round pick for Houston's second

round pick in 2018,

just so long as they took

Osweiller off their hands.

Already counting their lucky stars,

Houston had Cleveland to thank again

for "missing a trick"

with quarterback Deshaun Watson

at this year's draft.

Passing up on the college football

champion was described

by his Clemson coach

as "Like passing up

on Michael Jordan".

Anyhow, the rookie sensation has

revitalized the Texans offense,

one that lagged so badly under

Osweiller.

The sound of the crowd,

the knowledge of the audience,

the legend of the shirt,

the famed Seattle 12th man.

They know a thing or two

about the hotshot arms of youth.

Beautiful touch from Russell Wilson.

Now they welcomed Deshaun Watson,

five touchdown passes

against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Come on in, rookie.

Allow us to introduce

you to the Legion of Broom.

Whenever we lose it's my fault,

and that's the way I look at it.

It's not the players' fault.

They played valiantly today.

Earl Thomas is one of the best

safetys ever to play the game.

Richard Sherman's one of the best

corners to play the game.

I just feel sick that we didn't win.

They say Earl's only good

because of me and Cam and me and Cam

are good because of Earl.

And Bobby's only good

because of us and Delion's only

good because of Bobby,

so you've got to say, right,

there might be a few hall of fame

players in his defense which might

be making the whole thing go,

but score for a different day.

The Houston Texans and their young

rookie quarterback played

against the Seattle Seahawks legion

of boom defense in an epic showdown,

probably one of the best games

we've seen in the NFL.

Well, ladies and gentlemen,

there was a game within the game

and that took place

between Deshaun Watson

and Earl Thomas, but in order

to show you the incredible things

that happen, I've got to first bring

down my team-mate, my quarterback,

the honourable Mark Chapman.

Come on, man, let's

show how this is done.

The last time you did this I had

to pretend to be an offensive line.

I'm not doing that.

You're not going to

hit me or anything?

We're not going to do anything.

But first of all, all I want

you to do right now is I want

you to look at this play right

the middle of the field right here.

The Houston Texans know that,

he knows that and

Will Fuller knows that also.

Because there's no one behind?

So how will get Will Fuller

behind Earl Thomas?

for one split second,

able to get behind him.

the field covered, that's his job.

They run this guy across the middle

and he stops for one second,

boom, it's too late.

He can't recover fast

enough because Will Fuller

is entirely too fast.

around and hitting each other,

but the amount of planning

and preparation and the strategy

that goes into this game is amazing,

as demonstrated there.

But both things, both things that

you show are split-second timing.

It's the mental side of the game

that quite often I think you don't

appreciate until you pick out

the little bits.

Seahawks came out on top.

game, but not by a quarterback

or an offensive co-ordinator,

by that man, Pete Carroll.

We ought to just pause and mention,

Last week we talked about Buffalo

and their turnovers

and we highlighted Matt Milano.

For one of the first times

in the programme's history, we've

got something right!

Because he went and did this week

against the Raiders.

Ran into the ball.

Being opportunistic

and taking it back.

This defense has done such

a good job of this, man.

All these guys have played really

well within this system.

It's amazing.

They're playing well

together, they really are.

I mean, it's not a team,

not a team with a bunch

of superstars in the defensive side

of the ball, the blue collar,

just like the coach said,

they just seem to keep on winning.

Another four turnovers

I think in that game.

So they lead, as we spoke last week,

they lead the league

on turnover differentials.

I think they're up to 14.

Here's a good stat for you.

The last 19 teams who led the season

in takeaways made the playoffs.

Of course.

Wow.

I guess they're going

to make the playoffs!

Let's move on to talking

about the New Orleans Saints

and maybe unusually now we're

going to talk about the Saints,

we're not going to

mention Drew Brees, OK.

We're not going to analyse

Drew Brees, we're going to look

at something different because over

the recent years their defense has

been criticised a lot and yet

Marshon Lattimore is playing

superbly for them and you can

take a look at him.

Oh, you know I love quarters now.

I do.

I love good quarters.

And, you know, this

was their issue, right.

Their issue was the

defensive back field.

When you get a guy that starts

to become your number one corner,

the guy you can depend on,

the guy that makes plays.

You can do a lot of things

defensively because now you've got

a guy you trust back there to cover

the number one receiver

and make plays.

His gameplay has now

catapulted that defense.

Corners are important.

Corners are very important.

You're not going to get any argument

out of me on that one,

you need good corners.

This guy's an outstanding

young football player.

Rookie as well?

Exactly.

A guy who likes to force it.

You see him right there,

ripping the ball out of out

of Kenny Stills' hand.

That's not something a lot

of rookies are taught,

that's something that has to be

instinctive to him.

And his coach is Aaron Glenn,

who I played with, who taught me

how to play the game.

He's got a good coach.

I know Aaron Glenn.

AG, man.

AG will teach you.

Yeah, yeah.

Coach them up.

What's the most important thing

he teaches a corner then?

Make plays.

Right, OK.

Really the most important

thing, short-term memory.

If you get beat, shake

it off, go play again.

OK.

With 31 divisional titles and eight

Super Bowls between them,

Dallas and Washington have one

of the biggest rivalries in the NFL.

Two heavyweights from the NFC East,

Dallas are the highest valued

franchise in world sport

at $4.2 billion, with

Washington in the Top 20

at a modest $2.95 billion.

The glory days of the '80s and '90s

may be a distant memory,

but this is always a game that lives

up to expectation.

It's the classic of American cinema,

but neither team exactly

ripping up the prairie,

more like like cautiously taking

the middle lane of the turn pike.

Won three, lost three -

not the sort of dash expected

by an owner like Jerry Jones.

Foot to the floor or I'll

show you the door.

Now, take it up.

Washington will want to recover

quickly after being

ripped up by the Eagles.

COMMENTATOR: Ezekiel Elliott,

Ezekiel Elliott lose a fumble.

It was against the

Washington Redskins.

And on the first play

from scrimmage coughs it up today.

You see right there,

as he's starting to go down,

the ball is knocked out.

hand in there and, as you said, Tom,

Ezekiel Elliott has not put the ball

on the ground all season long.

And here, on the first play

of the game, after a big gain,

the Redskins have the ball

with great fill position.

Washington opened the scoring

on their next possession

with Rose's 38 yard field goal.

COMMENTATOR: Elliott,

to the end And touchdown

for Ezekiel Elliott.

How about that hole opened up

by that Cowboy's offensive line?

He goes 15 yards, he

doesn't even get touched.

When you look at this Redskins

offense and you see what the Cowboys

were able to do on their possession

and go right down the field and come

away with a touchdown,

there immediately is pressure

on Kirk Cousins and

being able to answer.

Redskins picking up, wide open.

And inside the 10 is

Crowder, down and a fly.

Kelley, again, and this time

he's in the end zone.

Touchdown, Washington.

Rose was on target from 41 yards

to give the Redskins a six point

lead with ten minutes left

in the second quarter.

COMMENTATOR: Great protection.

Down the middle, looking for Butler.

And excellent coverage out

there by Swearinger and the Cowboys,

for the first time in this game

will putt, 36 yard try.

Nick Rose grew up in Highland Park,

Texas, that's your old hood.

Yeah, well, it's still my hood!

And it's blocked.

It looked like he had problems

with his snap and the hold,

again, under these wet conditions,

and that's Scandrick with the ball.

And he's still on his feet,

down the sideline.

Scandrick may take

it the entire way.

It finally dropped

inside the five yard line.

It was Tyrone Crawford

who blocked the field goal try.

2nd and goal, Elliott again.

This time into the end

zone is Ezekiel Elliott,

his second touchdown today.

This is Thompson.

And the ball is loose.

It looks like a scramble

for it the Cowboys may

have recovered again.

That would be back-to-back touches

for the Redskins if this ball

is recovered by the Cowboys.

Cousins put it on the ground there,

their last offensive position.

And now Thompson after the hit

on his kick off return.

I tell you, the Redskins,

a lot of self-inflicted

wounds in this ball game.

As the weather worsened,

Mike Nugent helped Dallas pull away

with three field goals.

This one, from 37 yards,

extended the Dallas lead to 13

points in the dying minutes

of the game.

COMMENTATOR: 1st and goal,

this one's not over yet.

And touchdown.

Josh Doctson, his third touchdown

of the year and the first receiving

and passing touchdown in this game

and now all of a sudden with 435

to go, the Redskins have life.

Well, the red zone has been

a problem for the Redskins

and yet they're able to get

Doctson There on the backline

and a big target like that,

someone 6 foot 2, they're able

to put it in his area.

The right tackle, left early.

In the air and it's intercepted.

By Byron Jones and he's

in for a touchdown to put this one

on ice for the Cowboys.

David Irving gets a hand on the ball

and Byron Jones there then

for the interception and this

game is over.

Take a look at Jake now

for the interception talking

to Kirk Cousins and the handshake

right there says it all.

He's proud of his quarterback

and the way he hung in there.

We've got guys in there that don't

even know the offense,

been with the team a day

against this defense.

Kirk Cousins hung in there and did

about all he could do.

The cowboys coming away a 33-19 win.

Ezekiel was outstanding

today and he had to be.

You said the conditions

were challenging throughout.

We're at our best when

we run the football.

We really needed to run it

and run it a lot and run

it well in this game,

particularly in the second-half

when the weather got even worse.

At the end of the day,

usually you can see a successful red

skin game when you look at the run

path ratio if it's lop sided,

like it was today, you're

probably looking at a loss.

You know, very few times

will we win those games.

You know, we need to be

balanced to be successful.

So, yes, I wish I had that back.

They're very much hanging in there,

aren't they, the Cowboys.

They are 4/3.

Jason Garrett there says, "we're

at our best when we run the ball."

That was Ezekiel Elliott's third

best game of his career.

Yeah.

That's what works for them,

that running formula.

The main reason for

that, is that defense.

You want to keep them off the field

as much as possible.

And when you run the ball,

you control the clock,

you give them rest and you have that

big offensive line.

You run behind them.

But it now looks like he is going

to get the six game ban

for domestic violence.

He's got 24-hours to appeal,

but the ruling has

now been handed down.

It's been hanging

over him all season.

Yes, it has, and he's continued

to play at a very high-level,

but this is going to be a blow

for the Dallas Cowboys

because their offensive line,

that offensive line isn't playing

particularly well this

year as they have been

in the last couple of years.

It's not settled, is it?

It's not.

So you can't just plug anybody back

there, you have to have a special

talent, like Ezekiel Elliott,

and him missing those six games

is going to be a blow.

And those games are Kansas City,

Atlanta, Philidelphia, the Chargers,

Washington and the Giants.

It doesn't matter what kind

of form the Giants are in,

it is a divisional game.

game back, at one point in the

body to the backside.

Well, it's the next one, actually.

The main thing about him,

man, is he's not going

to throw you into wins.

You know, his whole thing,

how he got the job was being

smart with the football.

him to do a little bit too much.

I think he's asking a little bit

too much of himself.

They have to be able to run...

is something that you'rele taught

from day one to never do,

and he's pressing.

He's trying to go out

there and do some things that

are not in his character,

I wonder the more you hit,

you get hit, the more you panic

good players always get back

to the basics, the fundamentals.

You've got to lock in.

of getting whacked?

game losing streak

Minnesota are top of the North.

New Orleans have now won five

on the trot and they top the South.

In the West, Seattle

and the Rams are level.
