Hello and welcome to NFL This Week. | 0:00:33 | 0:00:36
Under a week now until Christmas
Day, and a crucial period | 0:00:36 | 0:00:39
in the race for the playoffs. | 0:00:39 | 0:00:41
But despite such a busy schedule,
at least Patriots coach | 0:00:41 | 0:00:43
Bill Bellichick finds time to get
into the Christmas spirit. | 0:00:43 | 0:00:50
REPORTER: True or false. | 0:00:50 | 0:00:51
Bill Belichick goes
carolling every year? | 0:00:51 | 0:00:52
I love carolling. | 0:00:52 | 0:00:54
Jingle Bells sung by
Bill Bellichick, coming to porch | 0:00:55 | 0:00:57
near you in New England. | 0:00:57 | 0:01:00
Can you imagine opening your door
and Bill Belichick is | 0:01:00 | 0:01:03
singing a carol to you? | 0:01:03 | 0:01:04
He seems so happy! | 0:01:04 | 0:01:08
Joining me once again,
our two-time Super Bowl winner | 0:01:08 | 0:01:10
Osi Umenyiora and former NFL
cornerback Jason Bell. | 0:01:10 | 0:01:12
Right, let's look at how the playoff
picture looked coming into week 15. | 0:01:12 | 0:01:15
Pittsburgh and New England face
each other this week. | 0:01:15 | 0:01:20
A New England win would take them
back to number one seed due | 0:01:20 | 0:01:23
to their head-to-head record. | 0:01:23 | 0:01:24
Jacksonville had the opportunity
to confirm a playoff place. | 0:01:24 | 0:01:26
But behind them, Buffalo,
Baltimore and the LA | 0:01:26 | 0:01:30
Chargers are all tied on seven
and six and have playoff hopes. | 0:01:30 | 0:01:34
The Eagles are NFC East
divisional champions, | 0:01:34 | 0:01:37
but a win this week would secure
them a first-round bye that | 0:01:37 | 0:01:39
comes from being either
the number one or two seed. | 0:01:39 | 0:01:44
Behind them, it's so close,
but two teams to pick out | 0:01:44 | 0:01:47
here are the LA Rams
and Seattle Seahawks, | 0:01:47 | 0:01:49
who play each other this week | 0:01:49 | 0:01:50
in what is a must-win game
at the top of the NFC West. | 0:01:50 | 0:01:52
So, New England vs Pittsburgh -
they don't get much | 0:01:52 | 0:01:55
bigger than this. | 0:01:55 | 0:01:56
Two of the most successful NFL teams
in history fighting it out once | 0:01:56 | 0:01:59
again to be the AFC number one seed. | 0:01:59 | 0:02:02
This is strictly A-listers only. | 0:02:05 | 0:02:07
This is where Super Bowl
royalty hangs out. | 0:02:07 | 0:02:09
The Steelers' six Super Bowl titles
against the Patriots' five. | 0:02:09 | 0:02:15
Headline acts in every shirt. | 0:02:15 | 0:02:18
Even when they do not
speak, they are news. | 0:02:18 | 0:02:22
The Belichick stare that can turn
a journalist to ice at 50 paces. | 0:02:22 | 0:02:28
This is regular season,
but this is for rules the AFC. | 0:02:28 | 0:02:32
This is just another week
of football, but this | 0:02:32 | 0:02:37
is Brady against Ben,
Gronk and Brown, Cooks and Bell. | 0:02:37 | 0:02:40
The fuse is lit. | 0:02:40 | 0:02:43
Get ready to win this game! | 0:02:43 | 0:02:46
COMMENTATOR: 2nd & goal,
and another touchdown. | 0:02:50 | 0:02:54
This is something that has been
a regular happening for Burkhead | 0:02:54 | 0:02:57
here in the last few weeks. | 0:02:57 | 0:02:58
We see a great block by Devlin. | 0:02:58 | 0:03:01
The fullback right there creating
the hole, and Burkhead just | 0:03:01 | 0:03:03
a touchdown machine when they get
inside the red zone. | 0:03:03 | 0:03:07
1st down, shotgun. | 0:03:08 | 0:03:11
And there is the 100th catch
of the season for Antonio Brown. | 0:03:11 | 0:03:15
Now from the 18, new set of downs. | 0:03:15 | 0:03:24
Now from the 18, new set of downs. | 0:03:24 | 0:03:24
Rosters Berger completes it, and
that is touchdown. | 0:03:24 | 0:03:32
Completes it, that's Rodgers! | 0:03:32 | 0:03:38
Ben has the option to hand it
off, but he keeps it | 0:03:38 | 0:03:41
and throws it up the middle. | 0:03:41 | 0:03:42
What a perfect throw,
right over the stretch of Rowe. | 0:03:42 | 0:03:45
2nd & 18, fakes the handoff. | 0:03:45 | 0:03:46
Looks for another option. | 0:03:46 | 0:03:47
Bounces back, throws,
in the end zone. | 0:03:47 | 0:03:49
Incomplete. | 0:03:49 | 0:03:50
Oh, there was traffic
there, and so, too, | 0:03:50 | 0:03:52
was Antonio Brown, whose injured. | 0:03:52 | 0:03:53
Let's see his legs. | 0:03:53 | 0:03:54
Oh, yeah, he gets kicked
right in that left calf. | 0:03:54 | 0:03:57
Being escorted to the sideline
by the medical crew. | 0:03:57 | 0:03:59
STUDIO: With Antonio Brown's game
over, Chris Boswell's 51 yard field | 0:03:59 | 0:04:06
goal gave the Steelers
a 3-point lead. | 0:04:06 | 0:04:11
The Patriots quickly cancelled that
out, Stephen Gostkowski's 32-yard | 0:04:11 | 0:04:13
field goal tying the game at 10-10
on their next possession. | 0:04:13 | 0:04:16
COMMENTATOR: Big play
here, back to the field. | 0:04:16 | 0:04:18
For five wide, what will they do? | 0:04:18 | 0:04:19
3rd & goal, he lobs it over
the top and is reeled in. | 0:04:19 | 0:04:22
What a catch by Bryant
for the touchdown! | 0:04:22 | 0:04:25
You can see Martavis
Bryant right here. | 0:04:25 | 0:04:28
He's got Gilmore in his face,
come across the field, | 0:04:28 | 0:04:30
he's shallow and Ben
floats away over. | 0:04:30 | 0:04:36
And he holds that, see that left
wrist holding that hand down? | 0:04:36 | 0:04:39
You'd better catch the ball
when you only use one hand, | 0:04:39 | 0:04:42
but what a root and catch. | 0:04:42 | 0:04:48
Now 3rd & goal. | 0:04:48 | 0:04:49
Brady, throws it for
the touchdown to Cooks. | 0:04:49 | 0:04:55
Watch him step up in
the pocket, and Cooks gets | 0:04:55 | 0:05:02
inside leverage on him. | 0:05:02 | 0:05:03
What a throw? | 0:05:03 | 0:05:04
To throw that that tightly. | 0:05:04 | 0:05:06
This is a big point, needs some
yards for a field goal at least. | 0:05:06 | 0:05:09
And they've been great on 3rd down
so far, seven out of nine, | 0:05:09 | 0:05:12
so they need to pick up ten
on this one. | 0:05:12 | 0:05:14
Incomplete. | 0:05:14 | 0:05:16
Bell wrestled down after
the incompletion by Richards, | 0:05:16 | 0:05:18
and the crowd didn't like it,
but there'll be plenty. | 0:05:18 | 0:05:20
Can Pittsburgh get a pass? | 0:05:20 | 0:05:20
They got to 'em,
and it's intercepted! | 0:05:27 | 0:05:29
It's Williams who finally
was able to pull it in. | 0:05:29 | 0:05:31
The pressure was on Brady. | 0:05:31 | 0:05:32
He had to upload it,
and he's picked off for the first | 0:05:32 | 0:05:35
time in 12 years against Pittsburgh. | 0:05:35 | 0:05:37
It's Bell. | 0:05:37 | 0:05:40
He cuts back and he's
in for the touchdown. | 0:05:40 | 0:05:42
Le'Veon Bell for the Steelers. | 0:05:42 | 0:05:46
Great run. | 0:05:46 | 0:05:47
Look at Roberts. | 0:05:47 | 0:05:48
Go get the ball! | 0:05:48 | 0:05:49
Go get the ball! | 0:05:49 | 0:05:50
He had an angle for him,
and you see he just shot the gap. | 0:05:50 | 0:05:54
Linebacker, 52, Roberts,
and Bell out runs him. | 0:05:54 | 0:05:56
STUDIO: Gostkowski's 46 yard field
goal cut the Patriots' deficit | 0:05:56 | 0:05:58
to five points with four minutes
left in the game. | 0:05:58 | 0:06:03
COMMENTATOR: He's going
to move Smith-Schuster | 0:06:05 | 0:06:06
around to the right side. | 0:06:06 | 0:06:07
Across the middle. | 0:06:07 | 0:06:10
Patriots there to defend it,
and stop them short. | 0:06:10 | 0:06:15
A yard short. | 0:06:15 | 0:06:16
A little high drama. | 0:06:16 | 0:06:18
2:06 to play. | 0:06:18 | 0:06:23
It was passed, almost intercepted. | 0:06:23 | 0:06:30
Could have been a game ender had
Sean Davis held onto it. | 0:06:30 | 0:06:33
The ball was deflected,
looks like Hayward got a hand on it. | 0:06:33 | 0:06:36
Oh, my gosh, Sean Davis,
to win the football game. | 0:06:36 | 0:06:43
Pressure on Rhodes, got
Gronkowski at the 50. | 0:06:43 | 0:06:44
1st & 10, Patriots from their 49. | 0:06:44 | 0:06:53
Brady down the field,
and there is Gronk. | 0:06:53 | 0:06:55
That is Gronk's sixth
catch of the half. | 0:06:55 | 0:07:02
Over 100 yards alone in this half,
eight for the game, 151, | 0:07:02 | 0:07:05
you saw his hulk reaction,
and they are fired up. | 0:07:05 | 0:07:08
He got about halfway
there with that catch. | 0:07:08 | 0:07:10
Brady's going to call the play
to the line of scrimmage now. | 0:07:10 | 0:07:13
He's got the coverage. | 0:07:13 | 0:07:14
Here is the 1st down throw. | 0:07:14 | 0:07:16
And off the ground,
Gronkowski, it is a catch, | 0:07:16 | 0:07:21
and he strikes the pose again. | 0:07:21 | 0:07:22
The Steelers have one left. | 0:07:22 | 0:07:25
There is Lewis, and he's
in for the touchdown. | 0:07:25 | 0:07:27
With 56 seconds to go,
the Patriots have taken the lead. | 0:07:27 | 0:07:31
I think they're going to go for two. | 0:07:31 | 0:07:33
They should go for two here. | 0:07:33 | 0:07:35
This could make the margin three
if they convert the two. | 0:07:35 | 0:07:38
It is a fade right here
if he is one-on-one. | 0:07:38 | 0:07:40
Are they going to go double? | 0:07:40 | 0:07:41
Tom's looking at the safety. | 0:07:41 | 0:07:43
The double again wide open,
Gronk pulls it down for the two. | 0:07:43 | 0:07:45
Look at that. | 0:07:45 | 0:07:49
Never a doubt that was where
Brady was going to look. | 0:07:49 | 0:07:53
The midfield slant,
Sean Davis just off balance. | 0:07:53 | 0:07:55
And now the Steelers
will have 56 seconds. | 0:07:55 | 0:08:00
Across the middle, Smith-Schuster
running across that side, | 0:08:03 | 0:08:05
taking as much as he can. | 0:08:05 | 0:08:06
But he breaks away. | 0:08:06 | 0:08:07
Now he cuts it up the middle. | 0:08:07 | 0:08:09
Still on his feet,
looking for some help. | 0:08:09 | 0:08:11
Inside the 15, and all the way
to the 10-yard line. | 0:08:11 | 0:08:16
Time out if you're Pittsburgh,
time-out Pittsburgh! | 0:08:21 | 0:08:23
69 yards. | 0:08:23 | 0:08:24
This is incredible. | 0:08:24 | 0:08:25
It is a crossing route,
and he comes underneath real | 0:08:25 | 0:08:27
flat, and he gets away. | 0:08:27 | 0:08:29
Richard Smith Tim. | 0:08:29 | 0:08:31
And he just kept running,
and the rookie, I can't | 0:08:31 | 0:08:33
believe that happened. | 0:08:33 | 0:08:37
And of course, two last time out
with 34 seconds to go. | 0:08:37 | 0:08:42
To the end zone. | 0:08:44 | 0:08:45
Touchdown Pittsburgh! | 0:08:45 | 0:08:47
Jesse James, two plays,
they take in the distance. | 0:08:47 | 0:08:51
Are they looking at the football,
possibly losing control? | 0:08:52 | 0:08:56
Oh, that's what it is, Jim. | 0:08:56 | 0:08:58
They don't think he caught it. | 0:08:58 | 0:09:00
Does he maintain control right here? | 0:09:00 | 0:09:02
He's got to maintain possession. | 0:09:02 | 0:09:03
Does that bobble? | 0:09:03 | 0:09:05
REFEREE: After reviewing the play,
the receiver in the end zone | 0:09:05 | 0:09:08
did not survive the ground. | 0:09:08 | 0:09:09
It is an incomplete pass. | 0:09:09 | 0:09:10
Oh, my goodness! | 0:09:10 | 0:09:11
Unbelievable. | 0:09:11 | 0:09:13
REFEREE: 2nd down and ten
at the 10-yard line. | 0:09:13 | 0:09:17
2nd & goal. | 0:09:17 | 0:09:18
New England is going
to come after them. | 0:09:18 | 0:09:20
They can't, they've got to get
out of there, right? | 0:09:20 | 0:09:23
They are coming. | 0:09:23 | 0:09:24
I know. | 0:09:24 | 0:09:25
They are coming, they shake it off,
trying to get to the sideline. | 0:09:25 | 0:09:28
He in play. | 0:09:28 | 0:09:30
Don't clock it. | 0:09:30 | 0:09:33
You are going to go
ahead and throw it. | 0:09:33 | 0:09:35
Take your time, snap it
with nine or eight seconds. | 0:09:35 | 0:09:38
He is telling them to fade. | 0:09:38 | 0:09:40
There he goes,
running down the play. | 0:09:40 | 0:09:43
He fires, and it is intercepted! | 0:09:43 | 0:09:46
It is intercepted to save the game! | 0:09:47 | 0:09:50
And the Patriots are going to win
it, absolutely amazing. | 0:09:50 | 0:09:56
You have to throw a fade right
there, but it went inside. | 0:09:56 | 0:09:58
That was Rowe who batted
it into the air. | 0:09:58 | 0:10:00
New England wins it 27-24. | 0:10:00 | 0:10:04
That was a lot of fun. It goes back
and forth, and you play right to the | 0:10:11 | 0:10:16
end, and the ball bounces in weird
ways, I'm glad it bounced our way | 0:10:16 | 0:10:22
today. We are not going to go back
and say anything against anybody, we | 0:10:22 | 0:10:29
lost a game. Very competitive game,
and our guys just kept battling, and | 0:10:29 | 0:10:35
in the end, we were able to make
enough plays to win. You can see how | 0:10:35 | 0:10:45
his demeanour changes. What a
remarkable end to the game. Let's | 0:10:45 | 0:10:48
just look at this Jesse James catch
that wasn't. | 0:10:48 | 0:10:52
The NFL put out on Twitter this clip
with senior VP of officiating | 0:10:52 | 0:10:56
Al Riveron explaining why
it was not a touchdown. | 0:10:56 | 0:11:02
Hello everyone. I just wanted to
review a play that happened in the | 0:11:02 | 0:11:07
very exciting New England and
Pittsburgh game today. As we can see | 0:11:07 | 0:11:12
here, Roethlisberger completes a
Pastor James who is going to ground | 0:11:12 | 0:11:15
as he reaches the goal-line, and
that is the key here. By rule, to | 0:11:15 | 0:11:19
complete the process of the catch,
he must survive the ground, and by | 0:11:19 | 0:11:24
that we mean he must maintain
control of the football. As we see | 0:11:24 | 0:11:29
her, he does put the ball over the
goal line, but once he gets there, | 0:11:29 | 0:11:32
he loses control of the football and
then the ball hits the ground. So | 0:11:32 | 0:11:39
therefore two things occur. He loses
control of the football, and the | 0:11:39 | 0:11:43
ball touches the ground prior to him
regaining control. Therefore the | 0:11:43 | 0:11:47
ruling on the field of a touchdown
was changed to an incomplete pass. | 0:11:47 | 0:11:54
Thank goodness he put the arrow on
to point out where the ball was(!) | 0:11:54 | 0:12:00
Was that a robot? It sounded like
one of those machine voices! | 0:12:00 | 0:12:06
Joking aside. That wouldn't happen
in our football. Decisions don't | 0:12:06 | 0:12:10
often get its planes to us by the
people involved. By the robots | 0:12:10 | 0:12:13
involved!
But that at least opens up to the | 0:12:13 | 0:12:18
fans and it splendid, so if you are
going to complain about what | 0:12:18 | 0:12:22
happened at the end of that, it is
the rule that is the problem. It is | 0:12:22 | 0:12:26
the rule that is the problem, and
there are so many discrepancies as | 0:12:26 | 0:12:29
to what is a catch, what is the
catch, was this a touchdown, was | 0:12:29 | 0:12:34
this not? Would you just accept it?
The rule is clear. It made a tonne | 0:12:34 | 0:12:41
of sense. Obviously you question,
did he break the plane, what | 0:12:41 | 0:12:45
happened? I think players now need
to adjust to that than understand | 0:12:45 | 0:12:48
what the rules are. Most Head
coaches let you know before the | 0:12:48 | 0:12:52
season, and they need to know in
those positions that you make sure | 0:12:52 | 0:12:56
you maintain the catch. What did you
make right at the end of that game, | 0:12:56 | 0:13:01
Big Ben's fake spike and going for
it as opposed to actually spiking it | 0:13:01 | 0:13:05
and taking the field goal and go
into overtime? He had time to throw | 0:13:05 | 0:13:10
the fade, but the fact that he threw
a slant with all those defenders in | 0:13:10 | 0:13:15
there, and it wasn't Antonio Brown!
His guy that bailed him out. So I | 0:13:15 | 0:13:20
don't understand. So the poor
decision is more the choice of throw | 0:13:20 | 0:13:23
rather than the fake spike? It is
throwing it into all that traffic. | 0:13:23 | 0:13:28
You want to avoid that traffic. Mike
Tomlin said we are a team who want | 0:13:28 | 0:13:34
to go for the win. Especially in a
game of this magnitude, you want to | 0:13:34 | 0:13:38
go for the jugular, have the
fortitude to go for the win in a | 0:13:38 | 0:13:41
situation, and they did it but it
didn't work out for them. Let's look | 0:13:41 | 0:13:52
at the linkup between the players.
The double market, can you do that | 0:13:52 | 0:13:58
with Gronk? This guy is six foot
six, 200 and 70lb, athletic and | 0:13:58 | 0:14:04
fast, here's a match-up nightmare. I
don't understand why they didn't | 0:14:04 | 0:14:13
adjust it and try to do something
schematically that changed it, | 0:14:13 | 0:14:18
because Sean Davis was struggling.
So at least try to double-team him | 0:14:18 | 0:14:21
to see what happens? Give him a
different look, because he was | 0:14:21 | 0:14:26
destroying it. He goes in for that
which sets up the two pointer. He | 0:14:26 | 0:14:35
was virtually alone. That was crazy,
they should have put two guys out | 0:14:35 | 0:14:43
there, but... They can't put two
guys out there! They used to do it | 0:14:43 | 0:14:48
Calvin Johnson! They put two guys
out there and took him out of the | 0:14:48 | 0:14:53
play. He was a receiver, this is a
tight end. He is the best dude on | 0:14:53 | 0:15:02
the field for right now, take it
away! That is a fair argument. | 0:15:02 | 0:15:13
How do you... | 0:15:13 | 0:15:14
I don't understand how
you expect them to... | 0:15:14 | 0:15:16
He's the best dude on field form
right now, he has beaten man to man | 0:15:16 | 0:15:20
coverage every down,
take it away! | 0:15:20 | 0:15:21
That is a fair argument. | 0:15:21 | 0:15:22
In a season where we have seen
so many injuries to crucial players, | 0:15:22 | 0:15:26
often MVP candidates,
Antonio brown is out, | 0:15:26 | 0:15:27
he has got five weeks to get fit
for the Championship game, | 0:15:27 | 0:15:30
four weeks for the divisional game. | 0:15:30 | 0:15:32
That is a tough, tough blow
for a team and a guy, Antonio Brown | 0:15:32 | 0:15:35
who was having an MVP... | 0:15:35 | 0:15:36
We said last week, didn't we? | 0:15:36 | 0:15:38
He's a football player,
making play after play | 0:15:38 | 0:15:39
for the Pittsburgh Steelers,
I don't know how they will be able | 0:15:39 | 0:15:42
to recover from this. | 0:15:42 | 0:15:43
Don't forget, The NFL
Show is on Saturday | 0:15:43 | 0:15:45
after Match Of The Day,
where we will take another | 0:15:45 | 0:15:48
look back at week 15,
preview week 16 and all the play-off | 0:15:48 | 0:15:51
drama that lies ahead,
that is all from ten past | 0:15:51 | 0:15:53
midnight on BBC One. | 0:15:53 | 0:15:54
A reminder, too, that all of our
shows are available on the iPlayer. | 0:15:54 | 0:15:57
Right, let's take a look at some
of the other week 15 games. | 0:15:57 | 0:16:00
Well, this was one of the standout
results of the whole season | 0:16:00 | 0:16:03
as the Rams overwhelmed
their divisional rivals the Seattle | 0:16:03 | 0:16:05
Seahawks in the NFC West. | 0:16:05 | 0:16:06
Four touchdowns for Todd Gurley
and he is now up to 17 and leads | 0:16:06 | 0:16:10
the way in the NFL this season. | 0:16:10 | 0:16:11
Looking like a young
Marshall Falk out there. | 0:16:11 | 0:16:13
That is his fourth touchdown,
he took Goff's 14 yard pass | 0:16:13 | 0:16:16
and Russell Wilson had no
chances all day. | 0:16:16 | 0:16:18
The Rams defence sacked him seven
times and Osi will do more. | 0:16:18 | 0:16:21
Not a surprising amount. | 0:16:21 | 0:16:23
Not safe! | 0:16:23 | 0:16:24
In just a moment. | 0:16:24 | 0:16:26
Big win for the Vikings
as they thumped the Bengals, | 0:16:26 | 0:16:28
thanks mostly to a great defense. | 0:16:28 | 0:16:31
Eric Kendricks here with
a 31 yard interception. | 0:16:31 | 0:16:35
UCLA boys, right there,
Mark, in front of him. | 0:16:35 | 0:16:38
OK. | 0:16:38 | 0:16:39 | |
Spot your friends! | 0:16:39 | 0:16:41
Yeah. | 0:16:41 | 0:16:42 | |
And this was, Teddy Bridgewater,
since coming back in August 2016, | 0:16:42 | 0:16:46
Case Keenam coming back
towards the end of the game. | 0:16:46 | 0:16:51
So loud he couldn't actually hear
the calls in his ear. | 0:16:51 | 0:16:54
Another big divisional clash,
now this is the AFC West, | 0:16:54 | 0:16:56
the Chargers and the Chiefs. | 0:16:56 | 0:16:58
Smith got them rolling. | 0:16:58 | 0:17:02
Tyreek Hill, he can pick them up
and put them down, Mark. | 0:17:02 | 0:17:04
64 yard touchdown
pass to Tyreek Hill. | 0:17:04 | 0:17:09
The Chiefs did not lose. | 0:17:09 | 0:17:10
Rivers had an awful day. | 0:17:10 | 0:17:11
Picked three times. | 0:17:11 | 0:17:12
Watch this though, Tambor Hali,
at the end, helping an opponent, | 0:17:12 | 0:17:15
Joey Bosa, giving him tips. | 0:17:15 | 0:17:19
That is brilliant. | 0:17:19 | 0:17:22
That is the fraternity
man, we've got to stick | 0:17:22 | 0:17:24
together, no matter what. | 0:17:24 | 0:17:25
I love that clip. | 0:17:25 | 0:17:26
Love it. | 0:17:26 | 0:17:27
Anyhow, onto the
Cowboys and Raiders. | 0:17:27 | 0:17:29
Dak Prescott running this. | 0:17:29 | 0:17:32
Making it happen. | 0:17:32 | 0:17:33
In the third quarter,
that made it 17-10. | 0:17:33 | 0:17:35
Derek Carr found Michael Crabtree
to square it to 17 all | 0:17:35 | 0:17:37
in the fourth quarter. | 0:17:37 | 0:17:39
This Dan Bailey field goal,
the difference, it keeps the playoff | 0:17:39 | 0:17:42
hopes of the Cowboys still alive
and they have Elliott back for | 0:17:42 | 0:17:45
the clash with Seattle next week. | 0:17:45 | 0:17:49
Zeke had a six-pack,
I saw the picture. | 0:17:49 | 0:17:52
Let's do the Saints next
who beat the Jets to keep up | 0:17:52 | 0:17:54
the pressure in the NFC. | 0:17:54 | 0:17:59
He scored in the second
quarter to make it 17-7. | 0:17:59 | 0:18:04
Mark Ingram sealed it
in the fourth quarter. | 0:18:04 | 0:18:07
That was from 50 yards,
all going swimmingly. | 0:18:07 | 0:18:09
Going swimmingly for the Saints. | 0:18:09 | 0:18:12
I like it. | 0:18:12 | 0:18:13
That is a good one. | 0:18:13 | 0:18:14
This was a must win divisional game
for Atlanta against Tampa Bay. | 0:18:14 | 0:18:18
It actually went back
and forth, did this. | 0:18:18 | 0:18:20
The 42 yard pass to Mike Evans
made it a 3-point game | 0:18:20 | 0:18:23
going into the fourth quarter. | 0:18:23 | 0:18:28
Look at this running game, though. | 0:18:28 | 0:18:29
Devonta Freeman was immense. | 0:18:29 | 0:18:32
However, Tampa Bay hung on in there. | 0:18:32 | 0:18:36
Winston finding
Adam Humphreys there. | 0:18:36 | 0:18:39
But they missed the extra points,
Atlanta still in the playoff mix. | 0:18:39 | 0:18:49
The Los Angeles Rams have the best
interior defensive lineman | 0:18:49 | 0:18:51
in all of football and his name
is Aaron Donald. | 0:18:51 | 0:18:54
I mean, look at that face,
he's cuter than a fat baby. | 0:18:54 | 0:18:57
I just want to pinch
his little cheeks. | 0:18:57 | 0:19:00
Whatever you do, don't make
the mistake of pinching this man's | 0:19:00 | 0:19:03
cheeks, because he is a full grown
man and I'm going to | 0:19:03 | 0:19:03
to pinch his cheeks. | 0:19:04 | 0:19:08
Check this out. | 0:19:08 | 0:19:09
This man right here is incredible,
he had a field day. | 0:19:09 | 0:19:12
Now, as the defensive lineman,
the offensive linemen are going | 0:19:12 | 0:19:14
to try and stop your charge,
with their hands. | 0:19:14 | 0:19:17
So when you are rushing a passer,
you want to be really | 0:19:17 | 0:19:19
good with your hands,
you want to be able to get | 0:19:19 | 0:19:22
their hands off you and get
to the quarterback and Aaron Donald | 0:19:22 | 0:19:25
is going to execute
this to perfection. | 0:19:25 | 0:19:27
Check this play out, right here. | 0:19:27 | 0:19:28
You're going to see the offensive
lineman put his hands | 0:19:28 | 0:19:30
out and Aaron Donald
is going to immediately use | 0:19:30 | 0:19:33
the forklift and get
around to the quarterback, | 0:19:33 | 0:19:35
taking him straight down. | 0:19:35 | 0:19:39
What an incredible play
by Aaron Donald and you guys thought | 0:19:39 | 0:19:42
the whole time that all we did
was chest bump each other, | 0:19:42 | 0:19:45
chest bump each other. | 0:19:45 | 0:19:46
We actually have some technique
and Aaron Donald showed that. | 0:19:46 | 0:19:48
Watch this play right here. | 0:19:48 | 0:19:49
This was an even better play. | 0:19:49 | 0:19:51
He is going to use the exact same
movement but this time | 0:19:51 | 0:19:54
he is going to come inside. | 0:19:54 | 0:19:55
Check this out. | 0:19:55 | 0:19:56
He goes to the inside of
the offensive lineman with the sweet | 0:19:56 | 0:19:59
inside move and right
there you are going to see them | 0:19:59 | 0:20:02
try to double-team him. | 0:20:02 | 0:20:03
And right here, he is going to do
something that very few men can do. | 0:20:03 | 0:20:07
He is going to get skinny. | 0:20:07 | 0:20:08
Well, as skinny as a 300 pound man
can get, so really not that skinny. | 0:20:08 | 0:20:13
You turn on the shoulders
a little bit, you guys know | 0:20:13 | 0:20:15
what I'm talking about! | 0:20:15 | 0:20:21
He is going to turn his shoulders
and get to the quarterback and look | 0:20:21 | 0:20:24
at him chasing up to Russell Wilson,
looking like a lion chasing | 0:20:24 | 0:20:27
a wildebeest in the jungle. | 0:20:27 | 0:20:28
Getting that man down, another
incredible play by Aaron Donald, | 0:20:28 | 0:20:31
who terrorised the Seattle Seahawks
the entire evening and last but not | 0:20:31 | 0:20:34
least, you're going to see him do
something here which I never did. | 0:20:34 | 0:20:37
Play that run. | 0:20:37 | 0:20:38
I was so focused at getting
to the quarterback, I didn't care | 0:20:38 | 0:20:41
about the run and this is why
Aaron Donald is a much better | 0:20:41 | 0:20:44
player than I ever was. | 0:20:44 | 0:20:46
Wow! | 0:20:46 | 0:20:47 | |
Check him out right here. | 0:20:47 | 0:20:49
Right here, this is
called gap control. | 0:20:49 | 0:20:51
He is going to maintain his gap,
get the offensive lineman in the gap | 0:20:51 | 0:20:54
and put his body in that hole
and right now you're | 0:20:54 | 0:20:56
going to see him get
to the running back early. | 0:20:56 | 0:20:59
So, it is great to get there early. | 0:20:59 | 0:21:01
Well, not always. | 0:21:01 | 0:21:02
Not always. | 0:21:02 | 0:21:03
But anyway, you guys know what I'm
talking about, come on! | 0:21:03 | 0:21:06
You have put him ahead of you! | 0:21:06 | 0:21:07
Listen, he's a great
football player, man, | 0:21:07 | 0:21:09
what do you want me to say? | 0:21:09 | 0:21:12
You know, sometimes you've
just got to give credit | 0:21:12 | 0:21:14
where credit is due,
Mark. | 0:21:14 | 0:21:15 | |
Let me read you a quote
from Wade Phillips, Aaron Donald, | 0:21:15 | 0:21:18
because he is better than everybody,
and I didn't know he was | 0:21:18 | 0:21:20
better than everybody. | 0:21:20 | 0:21:21
I thought he was good, but I didn't
know he was better than everybody | 0:21:21 | 0:21:25
and he is and that comes from... | 0:21:25 | 0:21:26
He's expensive... | 0:21:26 | 0:21:27
A very experienced defensive coach. | 0:21:27 | 0:21:30
No question. | 0:21:30 | 0:21:31
And a guy who coached
Vaughan Phillips, coached some | 0:21:31 | 0:21:33
of the best players in football
and for him to say that, | 0:21:33 | 0:21:36
that is lofty praise
for Aaron Donald and tells you how | 0:21:36 | 0:21:39
good he is. | 0:21:39 | 0:21:40
Given... | 0:21:40 | 0:21:41
And we've spoken about
McVay a lot on the show, | 0:21:41 | 0:21:44
but given what he has done,
remember they were four and 12 last | 0:21:44 | 0:21:47
season and what they are now,
is he a contender for coach | 0:21:47 | 0:21:50
of the year? | 0:21:50 | 0:21:54
He has to be. | 0:21:54 | 0:21:55
He went into an organisation,
had a group of players, | 0:21:55 | 0:21:57
had to figure them out,
had to figure out all of their skill | 0:21:57 | 0:22:00
sets, their strengths. | 0:22:00 | 0:22:01
Me and Osi talk about that
all the time, coaches that can | 0:22:01 | 0:22:04
figure out how good you are,
what things you do well, | 0:22:04 | 0:22:07
he did that in the offseason,
you see the product, | 0:22:07 | 0:22:09
he deserves all the accolades. | 0:22:09 | 0:22:11
Not only that, but they are
on course to win the AFC West | 0:22:11 | 0:22:14
for the first time since 2003. | 0:22:14 | 0:22:15
He is not just turning
around a losing record, | 0:22:15 | 0:22:17
he is turning around
a decade of history. | 0:22:17 | 0:22:19
No question, man, they were
perennial seven and nine, | 0:22:19 | 0:22:21
eight out of eight and this guy has
come in there and he | 0:22:21 | 0:22:25
has got the job done,
beyond the expectations of anyone. | 0:22:25 | 0:22:27
This is an outstanding young coach. | 0:22:27 | 0:22:30
He is my friend, you know. | 0:22:30 | 0:22:31
I knew him when you were
a young little boy, man, | 0:22:31 | 0:22:34
and now he is grown-up,
I am so proud of him, Mark. | 0:22:34 | 0:22:37
I am so proud! | 0:22:37 | 0:22:38
Let's move on to Minnesota
and the Vikings. | 0:22:38 | 0:22:40
We've had a bit of a laugh
about Case Keenum over recent weeks, | 0:22:40 | 0:22:43
but given his performance and I've
got my script to say that I can give | 0:22:43 | 0:22:47
you some stats, 20 of 23 passes,
he completed for 236 yards and two | 0:22:47 | 0:22:50
touchdowns, you know,
let's give the guy some credit, yes? | 0:22:50 | 0:22:55
You've got to give him credit,
he is playing in an outstanding | 0:22:55 | 0:22:57
system that fits him perfectly. | 0:22:57 | 0:22:59
He is a smart guy,
they don't ask him... | 0:22:59 | 0:23:01
He has been blowing diva. | 0:23:01 | 0:23:03
I can't even say nothing
about Case Keenum. | 0:23:03 | 0:23:05
I think what is said
the most about him, for me, | 0:23:05 | 0:23:08
just as someone who watches
the sport, was his reaction | 0:23:08 | 0:23:10
to Teddy Bridgewater coming on and,
you know, the result, | 0:23:10 | 0:23:12
the scoreline at Cincinnati,
allowed him to rest a bit, | 0:23:12 | 0:23:15
some of his O line, give Bridgewater
a few plays, but his reaction | 0:23:15 | 0:23:18
was classic, wasn't it? | 0:23:18 | 0:23:28
That locker room was very close. | 0:23:28 | 0:23:30
Those guys are very close. | 0:23:30 | 0:23:32
They really enjoy being around each
other and that is what makes | 0:23:32 | 0:23:35
football so beautiful. | 0:23:35 | 0:23:38
But that was just about starting
to rehabilitate Bridgewater | 0:23:38 | 0:23:41
after nearly two years out. | 0:23:41 | 0:23:42
It is not about getting
to the playoffs and putting him | 0:23:42 | 0:23:45
back in ahead of him. | 0:23:45 | 0:23:49
No, there is no chance of that
happening here at all. | 0:23:49 | 0:23:52
This guy has taken them
to the promised land, | 0:23:52 | 0:23:54
well almost the way through. | 0:23:54 | 0:23:56
Well, regardless of other results
this week, Green Bay simply needed | 0:23:56 | 0:23:58
to win their game against Carolina
to have any hope of staying alive | 0:23:58 | 0:24:01
in the playoff hunt. | 0:24:01 | 0:24:04
As is often the case
with the Packers, they look | 0:24:04 | 0:24:06
to quarterback Aaron Rodgers
to save the day. | 0:24:06 | 0:24:11
Eight weeks after collarbone
surgery, with 13 screws | 0:24:11 | 0:24:12
in his shoulder, Rodgers was back
on the field, leading the Packers | 0:24:12 | 0:24:15
at a rampant Carolina Panthers. | 0:24:15 | 0:24:25
15th play of the drive. | 0:24:37 | 0:24:38
He finds them. | 0:24:38 | 0:24:39
McCaffrey. | 0:24:39 | 0:24:40
Touchdown. | 0:24:40 | 0:24:41
What a drive for the rookie. | 0:24:41 | 0:24:43
Kind of a natural pick
there by Greg Olsen, | 0:24:43 | 0:24:45
he releases up the field,
and the guy covering, | 0:24:45 | 0:24:47
Christian McCaffrey out
of the backfield on that H post | 0:24:47 | 0:24:49
route, he could not
come down and cover it. | 0:24:49 | 0:24:53
Easy touchdown. | 0:24:53 | 0:24:54
Here comes Aaron Rodgers. | 0:24:54 | 0:24:55
He led the NFL when he went down
with a broken right collarbone | 0:24:55 | 0:24:58
in week six at Minnesota. | 0:24:58 | 0:25:00
It was on October the 15th
where he was hit outside | 0:25:00 | 0:25:03
the pocket by Anthony Barr. | 0:25:03 | 0:25:04
3rd & 9. | 0:25:04 | 0:25:07
The defensive coordinator
for Carolina, he likes to bring | 0:25:07 | 0:25:09
pressure, we will see if he brings
it on this down. | 0:25:09 | 0:25:13
Rodgers throws, Adams
for the touchdown! | 0:25:13 | 0:25:19
And for the moment, Davante Adams
has more touchdown reception | 0:25:19 | 0:25:21
since the start of last year
than anybody in the NFL | 0:25:21 | 0:25:24
in a power walking meet. | 0:25:24 | 0:25:30
This was not power walking here,
watch Davante Adams and the move | 0:25:30 | 0:25:33
that he makes on Kurt Coleman. | 0:25:33 | 0:25:34
One-on-one on the safety and Coleman
was head bobbing, he did not know | 0:25:34 | 0:25:38
what where they were going to go. | 0:25:38 | 0:25:39
He takes it to the post. | 0:25:39 | 0:25:41
Easy touchdown. | 0:25:41 | 0:25:47
Rodgers steps through. | 0:25:47 | 0:25:49
Throws. | 0:25:49 | 0:25:50
Cobb. | 0:25:50 | 0:25:51 | |
One to one, Randall Cobb, cuts back,
what a run, touchdown! | 0:25:51 | 0:25:57
Aaron Rodgers, he falls
on that right shoulder | 0:25:57 | 0:25:59
after he delivers that football,
good to see him get up off the turf. | 0:25:59 | 0:26:04
He scrambles, he moves up,
he goes down and Cobb, | 0:26:04 | 0:26:07
as he is running that crossing
route, they just cut him loose | 0:26:07 | 0:26:10
and then he makes a heck
of a run after the play. | 0:26:10 | 0:26:18
Newton. | 0:26:18 | 0:26:19
Let's it fly. | 0:26:19 | 0:26:20
Olsen. | 0:26:20 | 0:26:21
A walk-in touchdown. | 0:26:21 | 0:26:24
They just completely
turned Greg Olsen loose. | 0:26:24 | 0:26:27
You can see, they bring pressure
and Cam is able to hang | 0:26:27 | 0:26:31
in there enough before Brooks gets
to him, but there you go. | 0:26:31 | 0:26:34
2nd & 10. | 0:26:34 | 0:26:38
Rodgers down the middle,
intercepted by Colin Jones. | 0:26:38 | 0:26:43
Second interception by Rodgers
in the game, but a flag | 0:26:43 | 0:26:45
at the end of the play. | 0:26:45 | 0:26:48
A big hit then on Davante Adams
at the end of this play | 0:26:48 | 0:26:51
and that is Thomas Davies. | 0:26:51 | 0:26:57
That is not what we want to see
and it is obviously their hit | 0:26:57 | 0:27:00
that they have been trying to take
it out of the game. | 0:27:00 | 0:27:03
Let us hope that he is OK. | 0:27:03 | 0:27:05
A lot of people attending
to him right now. | 0:27:05 | 0:27:07
Thank God he is able to get up
and walk off the field. | 0:27:07 | 0:27:10
Personal foul. | 0:27:10 | 0:27:11
Blindside block. | 0:27:11 | 0:27:12
Intercepting team, number 58. | 0:27:12 | 0:27:13
That is a 15-yard penalty. | 0:27:13 | 0:27:15
Panthers ball. | 0:27:15 | 0:27:16
First and ten. | 0:27:16 | 0:27:19
Newton keeps. | 0:27:19 | 0:27:20
He was looking for Olsen. | 0:27:20 | 0:27:21
That wasn't there. | 0:27:21 | 0:27:22
Now throws to the back. | 0:27:22 | 0:27:27
There it is juggled and incomplete. | 0:27:27 | 0:27:28
Byrd. | 0:27:28 | 0:27:30 | |
I don't think this is a touchdown. | 0:27:30 | 0:27:31
The ball is out. | 0:27:31 | 0:27:32
Now he really grabs it and when he's
secure it is going to the line, | 0:27:32 | 0:27:36
going to the ground,
he is on the boundary. | 0:27:36 | 0:27:38
I don't think there is any question,
this will be when Ron Riviera | 0:27:38 | 0:27:42
is going to have to listen
to the guy helping him upstairs. | 0:27:42 | 0:27:46
There is a ruling on the field
of an incomplete pass. | 0:27:46 | 0:27:48
Yeah, I don't know, unless we're
not seeing something, | 0:27:48 | 0:27:51
but it looks like an easy one to me,
Joe. | 0:27:51 | 0:27:54 | |
After review, the runner
was down by contact, | 0:27:54 | 0:27:56
in the end zone, it is a touchdown. | 0:27:56 | 0:27:58
Wow! | 0:27:58 | 0:27:59 | |
We are wrong, Rivera is right. | 0:27:59 | 0:28:05
On 1st down, Newton
keeps, Byrd, touchdown! | 0:28:05 | 0:28:08
His second. | 0:28:08 | 0:28:10
You see Byrd as he pushes
up on the quick post | 0:28:10 | 0:28:13
and that is easy pickings there,
outside leverage, good corner, | 0:28:13 | 0:28:15
good coverage by Newton. | 0:28:15 | 0:28:21
Rodgers down the middle,
Rodgers, touchdown! | 0:28:21 | 0:28:26
Rodgers throws, passes,
the ball is out. | 0:28:26 | 0:28:29
And Carolina has got it
and it is a catch and fumble. | 0:28:29 | 0:28:35
Carolina Panthers takeover. | 0:28:35 | 0:28:37
He runs a heck of a route,
but did he have possession and did | 0:28:37 | 0:28:40
he make another football move? | 0:28:40 | 0:28:43
It is close, it is about
on that second step. | 0:28:43 | 0:28:48
First and down, Carolina. | 0:28:48 | 0:28:49
So the call is catch and fumble
and that is going to be it. | 0:28:49 | 0:28:53
No time-outs left for Green Bay. | 0:28:53 | 0:28:55
It is disappointing
for all the Packers fans, | 0:28:55 | 0:28:57
to get to this position,
get Aaron Rodgers back on the field, | 0:28:57 | 0:29:00
only to lose in the first outing. | 0:29:00 | 0:29:06
Nothing should get in the way
of what our ultimate goal | 0:29:06 | 0:29:08
is and we know what that is. | 0:29:08 | 0:29:10
We talked about the vision
when we first got started. | 0:29:10 | 0:29:12
It is to win the Super Bowl
and that is the bottom line. | 0:29:12 | 0:29:16
More than anything else
it is about what we intend to do. | 0:29:16 | 0:29:18
Everything we do will be about that. | 0:29:18 | 0:29:20
Well, it is not the fairy tale
that we were hoping. | 0:29:20 | 0:29:23
As I lay in that surgery
bed, eight weeks ago, | 0:29:23 | 0:29:25
thinking about this moment,
I obviously saw it going | 0:29:25 | 0:29:27
a little differently,
but I am proud of our guys, | 0:29:27 | 0:29:30
the way they played
in the last few weeks. | 0:29:30 | 0:29:32
Today, I was disappointed,
I did not play very well. | 0:29:32 | 0:29:34
I expected to play well,
it was good defense. | 0:29:34 | 0:29:38
But I made too many mistakes
and even still, we had a chance | 0:29:38 | 0:29:41
there at the end to come back. | 0:29:41 | 0:29:44
I thought he did a lot of good
things, I thought he competed, | 0:29:44 | 0:29:48
just like he always does. | 0:29:48 | 0:29:49
Obviously, when you look
at the start line, I think | 0:29:49 | 0:29:51
stating the obvious,
it is hard to overcome | 0:29:51 | 0:29:53
being -4 in a game. | 0:29:53 | 0:29:54
the field for right now, take it
away! That is a fair argument. | 0:30:01 | 0:30:01
the field for right now, take it
away! That is a fair argument. | 0:30:01 | 0:30:01
the field for right now, take it
away! That is a fair argument. | 0:30:01 | 0:30:04
I felt pretty good, I just missed
some throws. I threw the ball in the | 0:30:04 | 0:30:15
dirt. To Geronimo in the red zone,
just uncharacteristic play in Macon | 0:30:15 | 0:30:24
and I was disappointed in my
performance today, I didn't play | 0:30:24 | 0:30:26
very well. | 0:30:26 | 0:30:27
And that result coupled with Atlanta
beating Tampa Bay means that that is | 0:30:31 | 0:30:37
the end of their season, you would
expect them to let Aaron Rodgers | 0:30:37 | 0:30:40
rest for the rest of the season. And
you would expect Davante Adams to | 0:30:40 | 0:30:44
take a while to come back from this,
because this hit from Thomas Davis | 0:30:44 | 0:30:48
was horrific, wasn't it? | 0:30:48 | 0:30:50
That was not good, and as a player,
they are trying to eliminate this | 0:30:54 | 0:30:58
from the game. A guy like Thomas
Davis should be totally aware of | 0:30:58 | 0:31:03
this, this is unacceptable and not
how we protect players. This makes | 0:31:03 | 0:31:08
me so angry, because what's the
point? There is no point in doing | 0:31:08 | 0:31:12
that to the guy you are playing
against. He is supposed to be a man | 0:31:12 | 0:31:17
of the year contender, and he knows
better than to do stuff like this. | 0:31:17 | 0:31:20
They should have thrown him out of
the game on the spot. He has been | 0:31:20 | 0:31:25
banned for two games by the NFL, and
he expressed his regret doing that | 0:31:25 | 0:31:30
afterwards. Davante Adams on social
media, he said, we got pro bowl | 0:31:30 | 0:31:36
players out here headhunting in
saying that they didn't mean to harm | 0:31:36 | 0:31:40
me. Somebody please explain to me
what I wasn't trying to hurt him | 0:31:40 | 0:31:45
means when, nowhere near the play,
it you lead with your head and ear | 0:31:45 | 0:31:49
hole a defenceless player? | 0:31:49 | 0:31:52
it you lead with your head and ear
hole a defenceless player? It is | 0:31:52 | 0:31:55
just stupidity, man. You know the
repercussions, you know what is | 0:31:55 | 0:31:58
happening, stop it. There was a
great bit in the game, which | 0:31:58 | 0:32:03
unfortunately you can't hear
properly on the TV, you might be a | 0:32:03 | 0:32:06
book to find it on social media,
where Clay Matthews tells the rest | 0:32:06 | 0:32:10
of the pack, this is the
wheelwright, and they said, have you | 0:32:10 | 0:32:16
been watching our film, watch this!
And proceeds to do the play and | 0:32:16 | 0:32:21
score a touchdown from it. The
confidence of the man! Yes, he | 0:32:21 | 0:32:25
thought it was the real root,
incredible play. The NFC South, how | 0:32:25 | 0:32:35
do you view this? Still a 3-way
battle for it, and they all have | 0:32:35 | 0:32:42
divisional games in the next two
weeks. I am looking at the Panthers | 0:32:42 | 0:32:47
right now and thinking, scary. As
Cam Newton goes, they go, he is | 0:32:47 | 0:32:51
playing with confidence and that
defense under Steve Wilkes is | 0:32:51 | 0:32:54
getting after people. But the same
thing you just said about Carolina, | 0:32:54 | 0:33:00
I'm saying about Atlanta and New
Orleans, they are scary. No one | 0:33:00 | 0:33:05
wants to play any one of those teams
Rina! Atlanta have both New Orleans | 0:33:05 | 0:33:09
and Carolina to play. Carolina and
New Orleans both have to play Tampa | 0:33:09 | 0:33:16
Bay. Do they have any say in this?
They did OK against Atlanta, so | 0:33:16 | 0:33:22
divisional games, they will raise it
a bit? Divisional games are always | 0:33:22 | 0:33:26
tough, you go in and play each
other, you have seen each other | 0:33:26 | 0:33:29
before and that gives you the
advantage. So the Bucs can still | 0:33:29 | 0:33:33
affected? They have talent and will
go up against it every week they | 0:33:33 | 0:33:40
play. Let's have a look at some of
the other week 15 games. | 0:33:40 | 0:33:44
The Lions faced the Bears in
Detroit. This long pass was followed | 0:33:48 | 0:33:57
by this TJ Jones touchdown moments
later. This eight yard catch sealed | 0:33:57 | 0:34:04
it, the Lions are still in the NFC
wild card hunt. Another impressive | 0:34:04 | 0:34:11
performance came from Jacksonville.
They were 31-0 up at half-time | 0:34:11 | 0:34:15
against the Texans, this 14 yard
pass the pick of those scores. | 0:34:15 | 0:34:23
DeAndre Hopkins scored consolation
touchdown, Jacksonville through to | 0:34:23 | 0:34:29
the postseason for the first time
since 2007. The Titans and the | 0:34:29 | 0:34:36
49ers, Garrett Celek got his second
quarter touchdown for the 49ers, and | 0:34:36 | 0:34:42
that made it 13-3, but Delaney
Walker struck back from four yards, | 0:34:42 | 0:34:48
and Tennessee stayed in touch with
this game with that. Robbie Gould | 0:34:48 | 0:34:52
kicked the winner late on, and that
will really hamper the Titans' | 0:34:52 | 0:34:56
playoff chances. We went to golf
tournaments together, we had a good | 0:34:56 | 0:35:04
time. Is that an on-air story or
not? He is his friend! Completely | 0:35:04 | 0:35:11
off air story. We are not mentioning
Cleveland, and that is not fair. We | 0:35:11 | 0:35:16
missed their touchdown because of
you in your golf stories! This is | 0:35:16 | 0:35:21
what Joe Flacco was doing, 17-10 up,
the Ravens were, Q classic | 0:35:21 | 0:35:27
Cleveland. To Sean Kyzer fumbled in
the end zone, also at eight and six | 0:35:27 | 0:35:36
are Buffalo after they beat Jay
Cutler's Miami Dolphins. LaShawn | 0:35:36 | 0:35:41
Merritt scored two touchdowns, he
has now gone over 10,000 yards in | 0:35:41 | 0:35:45
his career. Nice catch. And some
prime Cutler. Three interceptions, | 0:35:45 | 0:35:54
the final one to White. But Buffalo
still in the playoff | 0:35:54 | 0:36:02
the final one to White. But Buffalo
still in the playoff hunt. | 0:36:02 | 0:36:04
Jacksonville securing the playoff
spot | 0:36:04 | 0:36:06 | |
Jacksonville securing the playoff
spot for the first time since 2007. | 0:36:06 | 0:36:08
Let's just show you linebacker Smith
showing you what it meant to his | 0:36:08 | 0:36:15
team-mates. We dominated the team,
and they dominated us a couple of | 0:36:15 | 0:36:20
years ago. You understand? New era!
Let's keep going! One, two, three! | 0:36:20 | 0:36:32
I didn't understand what he was
talking about. I felt it. We | 0:36:38 | 0:36:42
mentioned it last week, and it came
through a little bit, this feeling | 0:36:42 | 0:36:46
of us against the world that is
going on at the Jaguars. They don't | 0:36:46 | 0:36:51
feel they're getting respect from
the NFL media. They feel they've got | 0:36:51 | 0:36:54
the history of the franchise on
their backs as well, huge franchise | 0:36:54 | 0:36:58
they haven't got the history of some
of the big teams, and they are being | 0:36:58 | 0:37:04
ignored. They are not being ignored
any more! But they are playing on | 0:37:04 | 0:37:09
that. It is like you said before,
whose name is all over that? Those | 0:37:09 | 0:37:15
boys are tough now, and it is that
defense is just making it happen. | 0:37:15 | 0:37:19
They are out there playing like
crazy, and you had better be good on | 0:37:19 | 0:37:27
each level. They have all of those,
and Smith earlier, he is a madman in | 0:37:27 | 0:37:32
the rush. And Blake portals in
December has the best pass rate. I | 0:37:32 | 0:37:40
am not going to beat my chest, but
he is coming through. He is coming | 0:37:40 | 0:37:44
through. And nobody is talking about
the receivers he is playing with. | 0:37:44 | 0:37:49
These guys are really stepping up
and playing well. A great receiver | 0:37:49 | 0:37:54
coaching those guys. And you can see
his influence? Absolutely, because | 0:37:54 | 0:37:59
he was a great receiver and ran
really precise routes because I had | 0:37:59 | 0:38:02
to cover him and I couldn't! Do
think New England and Pittsburgh | 0:38:02 | 0:38:08
will be concerned at all about
Jacksonville? Neither one of them | 0:38:08 | 0:38:12
want to play against Jacksonville
Jaguars at that is because of the | 0:38:12 | 0:38:15
way the Jaguars are built, they can
rush the passing, defend the run. We | 0:38:15 | 0:38:19
have monsters upfront to be able to
get after the quarterback, and it is | 0:38:19 | 0:38:26
an outstanding defensive team. You
don't want to play them right now. | 0:38:26 | 0:38:29
Just a little nod to the future,
because this game also affected | 0:38:29 | 0:38:33
Tennessee Titans, who were in
Jacksonville's division, and it has | 0:38:33 | 0:38:37
knocked them down a bit. San
Francisco have got something going, | 0:38:37 | 0:38:41
haven't they? If we were to look
ahead to next season already which | 0:38:41 | 0:38:47
we are not supposed to do at this
stage, they are going to be an | 0:38:47 | 0:38:51
exciting team to watch. Now that you
have plugged Jimmy GNN, these guys | 0:38:51 | 0:38:58
have confidence, they feel like they
can do anything, win games, they | 0:38:58 | 0:39:02
have their quarterback. There is a
rumour going down the NFL that the | 0:39:02 | 0:39:06
Patriots wanted to look after Jimmy
Garoppolo and therefore didn't want | 0:39:06 | 0:39:09
to treat into Cleveland, so when
Cleveland were interested, they | 0:39:09 | 0:39:13
phoned up the 49ers and asked him.
Does that sound believable? I think | 0:39:13 | 0:39:21
Belichick has a problem with the
Cleveland Browns, but I don't like | 0:39:21 | 0:39:24
the way the New England Patriots
treated this whole situation. | 0:39:24 | 0:39:31
Regardless of how they treated Tom
Brady, Jimmy Garoppolo and every | 0:39:31 | 0:39:34
thing came right together for them.
As Osi would tell you, the next game | 0:39:34 | 0:39:38
we are going to see is one of pure
hatred. Despite only winning two | 0:39:38 | 0:39:43
games this season, the New York
Giants needs no motivation to put | 0:39:43 | 0:39:49
their opponents in their place. In
their first game without Carson | 0:39:49 | 0:39:54
Wentz, the focus was on Nick Foles
to continue their season. | 0:39:54 | 0:40:03
COMMENTATOR: And he falls into the
end zone, touchdown first time. The | 0:40:03 | 0:40:09
Giants have come up on the first
possession of the game. Foles came | 0:40:09 | 0:40:18
over as a free agent from Kansas
City, you know the story. He started | 0:40:18 | 0:40:25
24 regular-season games, and was a
start of the last time Philadelphia | 0:40:25 | 0:40:30
went to the playoffs in 2013 and he
had a great year. 2nd down. At the | 0:40:30 | 0:40:40
back of the end zone, that is a
Philadelphia touchdown for Geoffrey. | 0:40:40 | 0:40:48
He goes four for four on the drive.
If you watch Jeffrey, and on target, | 0:40:48 | 0:40:58
and in rhythm, and you can see see
why he has won 20 ball games at the | 0:40:58 | 0:41:05
start of this level. And that is a
touchdown for King. That is a | 0:41:05 | 0:41:12
complete setup and a starting route.
He took advantage. 3rd & 2. And now | 0:41:12 | 0:41:32
they are looking to make it five out
of five. He is still on his feet, | 0:41:32 | 0:41:40
and down the sideline he goes for a
third touchdown. Poor tackling in | 0:41:40 | 0:41:46
the secondary once again, and the
Giants take the lead. 2nd & goal | 0:41:46 | 0:41:50
from the 10-yard line. It is coming
again, and that is a touchdown. Nice | 0:41:50 | 0:42:00
double move by Zak hurts, he uses
his big body to come here and come | 0:42:00 | 0:42:06
back in, and his defender he has
told to box out, he boxes out Adams. | 0:42:06 | 0:42:12
Good job, taking advantage. Slowing
down, and Manning scrambled around. | 0:42:12 | 0:42:21
They are going to get the ball...
They nearly got it the last time, | 0:42:21 | 0:42:27
and this time they get it. He'll
came up with the block. The got one | 0:42:27 | 0:42:35
block last week, so they are going
to try again. He is going to sneak | 0:42:35 | 0:42:40
through this gap on, long
unprotected. And that is a free run | 0:42:40 | 0:42:46
to the punter, and look at him
taking it right off the foot. Hands | 0:42:46 | 0:42:52
at waist level, beautiful job, and
special teams are now stepping up | 0:42:52 | 0:42:55
for the Eagles, everyone is getting
involved. Outside the 9-yard line. | 0:42:55 | 0:43:04
It is thrown wide open in the end
zone, and indeed, warm by the fire. | 0:43:04 | 0:43:14
The Philadelphia Eagles offense, the
highest scoring team. Nothing kills | 0:43:14 | 0:43:19
the defense like a lack of
communication. Right here between | 0:43:19 | 0:43:23
these two guys, nobody is
communicating. You see that, and it | 0:43:23 | 0:43:30
is easy pickings. That will kill a
team every single time. And now | 0:43:30 | 0:43:39
looking to the corner of the end
zone, and that is a touchdown for | 0:43:39 | 0:43:43
Philadelphia. Four touchdown s the
Nick Foles. He is recognising that | 0:43:43 | 0:43:51
the back is turned by Daryl Moss,
throw that ball up, tee times it | 0:43:51 | 0:43:55
perfectly going to catch it off the
back of number 23. The Eagles came | 0:43:55 | 0:44:01
back to take a lead. This is inside
the 20, the ten, and King dives, did | 0:44:01 | 0:44:09
he get to the end zone? No, he was
just outside. Now they say | 0:44:09 | 0:44:17
touchdown. You can see right here, a
good job of letting him have it | 0:44:17 | 0:44:23
heats, he takes off and I think that
is a touchdown. He crossed the plane | 0:44:23 | 0:44:28
with the football.
REFEREE: The call stands, touchdown. | 0:44:28 | 0:44:35
This will be a 48 yard field goal
try. They have had a play after | 0:44:35 | 0:44:41
block, and now a field goal block.
Make him run outside. He is late | 0:44:41 | 0:44:47
with his left hand, Malcolm Jenkins
jumps over that, avoids any dripping | 0:44:47 | 0:44:51
with his feet gets in there to block
the field goal. | 0:44:51 | 0:44:56
Jake Elliott added a field goal
in the next Eagles possession. | 0:44:56 | 0:44:59
They lead by five with
under four minutes left. | 0:44:59 | 0:45:01
And it is 4th down and goal. | 0:45:01 | 0:45:02
At the goal-line. | 0:45:02 | 0:45:04
They break for the rush. | 0:45:04 | 0:45:06
And Manning to the end zone. | 0:45:06 | 0:45:16
Complete with an eye on Ingram
with an eye on the flag | 0:45:19 | 0:45:22
and the Philadelphia Eagles
win their 12th game of the year. | 0:45:22 | 0:45:24
Carson probably reached out
to all of his players | 0:45:24 | 0:45:27
If | 0:45:27 | 0:45:27 | |
and offensively probably wished them
well, but there was no... | 0:45:27 | 0:45:29
I keep pace sheds | 0:45:29 | 0:45:30
If I keep pace and
offensively probably wished | 0:45:30 | 0:45:32
them well, but there was no... | 0:45:32 | 0:45:33
They spent the whole
week with Nick... | 0:45:33 | 0:45:35
There might have been
a little bit of that, | 0:45:35 | 0:45:37
how are we going to play,
you know, what is going to happen | 0:45:37 | 0:45:41
to start the game, but we just went
right down the field and Nick had | 0:45:41 | 0:45:44
the hot hand early and maintained it
throughout the game. | 0:45:44 | 0:45:46
Really, I think, this
was a great win for the team, | 0:45:46 | 0:45:49
but for Nick as well
and for the guys. | 0:45:49 | 0:45:52
You get the butterflies, for sure. | 0:45:52 | 0:45:55
I think any game you ever play in,
you get that excitement, | 0:45:55 | 0:45:58
because it is a big stage,
there is a lot going on, | 0:45:58 | 0:46:00
but once you get onto the field,
you just play ball. | 0:46:00 | 0:46:03
You live in the moment. | 0:46:03 | 0:46:06
There is just something that comes
out of you and you just go out | 0:46:06 | 0:46:09
there and just play. | 0:46:09 | 0:46:11
They already have the division one,
they have now got the bye week, | 0:46:11 | 0:46:14
but as Doug Pedersen said,
arguably, that is a more | 0:46:14 | 0:46:16
important win for Nick Foles
than it is for the Eagles. | 0:46:16 | 0:46:21
Yeah, he had to get out
there and he had to get comfortable | 0:46:21 | 0:46:25
and he looked comfortable,
especially when he had | 0:46:25 | 0:46:26
a clean pocket. | 0:46:26 | 0:46:27
He was protected and able
to step up there and throw | 0:46:27 | 0:46:30
and he made that throw,
struggled a little bit | 0:46:30 | 0:46:32
with the outside throws, but hey,
ultimately you cannot do throwing | 0:46:32 | 0:46:35
the ball in the middle of the field. | 0:46:35 | 0:46:37
Like you were talking about earlier,
man, he actually had to go | 0:46:37 | 0:46:40
in there and win the game. | 0:46:40 | 0:46:42
For them. | 0:46:42 | 0:46:43
It is not like, he was just
going to be loose, he had to go | 0:46:43 | 0:46:46
in there and win and he made throw
after throw and the receivers | 0:46:46 | 0:46:49
came up big for him,
making all these incredible catches. | 0:46:49 | 0:46:52
They are going to be OK. | 0:46:52 | 0:46:53
Yes, it just calms
everything down, doesn't it. | 0:46:53 | 0:46:55
It prevents a media storm,
it stops the doubts of fans, | 0:46:55 | 0:46:58
it just relaxes everybody. | 0:46:58 | 0:46:59
Like everybody was saying,
it is a good team, | 0:46:59 | 0:47:01
it is a good quarterback. | 0:47:01 | 0:47:02
Would there be any concern about
the Eagles defense after that game? | 0:47:02 | 0:47:07
They gave up the points
that they did and in fact, | 0:47:07 | 0:47:10
their worst performances defensively
wise have come against the Giants. | 0:47:10 | 0:47:14
Mark, divisional rivals,
I keep on telling you, | 0:47:14 | 0:47:16
these games you can throw
everything, throw all the records | 0:47:16 | 0:47:19
out, throw everything out
of the window, these two teams know | 0:47:19 | 0:47:21
each other, they know
their strengths, their weaknesses | 0:47:21 | 0:47:23
and they were able to exploit them
because they know them. | 0:47:23 | 0:47:26
So throw out the form book,
throw out the fact that the Giants | 0:47:26 | 0:47:29
have been dreadful offensively,
the Eagles have been | 0:47:29 | 0:47:31
so strong defensively,
you can simply put it down | 0:47:31 | 0:47:33
to a divisional match up. | 0:47:33 | 0:47:38
Yeah, and they attacked the middle
of the field, so they knew | 0:47:38 | 0:47:41
there was a weakness there. | 0:47:41 | 0:47:43
I think a team with a good tight
end can expose them. | 0:47:43 | 0:47:47
There were a lot of passes happening
that seemed like communication | 0:47:47 | 0:47:49
with the linebackers
and the defensive backs. | 0:47:49 | 0:47:51
There could be some other
teams looking at that. | 0:47:51 | 0:47:54
That is what I saw. | 0:47:54 | 0:47:55
You saw a big play on the outside,
but ultimately it was everything | 0:47:55 | 0:47:58
happening in the middle
of the field. | 0:47:58 | 0:47:59
OK, let's take a look
at the standings then for you before | 0:47:59 | 0:48:02
we leave you this evening. | 0:48:02 | 0:48:03
As you can see, there is the AFC,
New England, Pittsburgh | 0:48:03 | 0:48:06
have won their division,
Jacksonville can still | 0:48:06 | 0:48:08
make the playoffs. | 0:48:08 | 0:48:09
The Titans can still mathematically
win the AFC South and Kansas City's | 0:48:09 | 0:48:12
win over the Los Angeles Chargers
has just given them | 0:48:12 | 0:48:15
the edge in the AFC West. | 0:48:15 | 0:48:19
As far as the NFC East is concerned,
Dallas still have the chance | 0:48:19 | 0:48:22
of the playoffs, in the north,
Minnesota, the divisional winners, | 0:48:22 | 0:48:25
Detroit still in the running
there as well, the NFC South | 0:48:25 | 0:48:27
is all to play for, as we discussed
the Rams now still have a 98% chance | 0:48:27 | 0:48:31
of winning the NFC West. | 0:48:31 | 0:48:33
Who works these things out? | 0:48:33 | 0:48:35
In the AFC, the playoff
picture is as follows, | 0:48:35 | 0:48:37
New England's last-gasp win that put
them back as the number one seed | 0:48:37 | 0:48:40
by virtue of a better head-to-head
record over Pittsburgh, | 0:48:40 | 0:48:43
Jacksonville are now
confirmed in the playoffs | 0:48:43 | 0:48:44
as we have mentioned,
but there is still an awful lot | 0:48:44 | 0:48:47
to play for behind them. | 0:48:47 | 0:48:48
In the NFC, Philadelphia
as they say, they still get | 0:48:48 | 0:48:50
a first-round bye in the playoffs,
Dallas remain very much alive | 0:48:50 | 0:48:53
in the AFC wild card race,
at eight and six, the Cowboys face | 0:48:53 | 0:48:56
also the eight and six Seahawks
in week 16, a do or die game. | 0:48:56 | 0:49:00
And three teams from the South
are still in the playoff picture. | 0:49:00 | 0:49:02
A reminder that we have the NFL show
again this Saturday, | 0:49:02 | 0:49:05
from ten past midnight on BBC One
after match of the day. | 0:49:05 | 0:49:08
You can also catch
everything on the iPlayer. | 0:49:08 | 0:49:15
Sadly, Bill Belichick was not
available to sing us out tonight | 0:49:15 | 0:49:17
with a Christmas Carol,
which is probably a good thing | 0:49:17 | 0:49:20
as we are out of time. | 0:49:20 | 0:49:21
Good night. | 0:49:21 | 0:49:29
His collarbone was not fully
healed, but out he came. | 0:49:29 | 0:49:32
Not quite at his best,
but the playoffs push | 0:49:32 | 0:49:34
you through the pain barrier. | 0:49:34 | 0:49:35
Two weeks to go, it is
the season to be merry | 0:49:35 | 0:49:38
unless you have a playoff
place to secure. | 0:49:38 | 0:49:40
Only in the NFL at Christmas. | 0:49:40 | 0:49:50 |
