the launch of the playoffs.

So our 12 teams are locked

in for the playoffs.

With 11 Super Bowls between them,

New England and Pittsburgh

await their opponents in next week's

divisional round as eight teams take

part in the 'Wild Card' weekend.

Making their first playoff

appearance in 18 years are the 6th

seeded Buffalo Bills.

They head to Jacksonville,

who host a playoff game

for the first time in 18 years.

In the other game 5th

seeded Tennessee head

to 4th seeded Kansas City.

New England will face the lowest

seeded team to come out

of the weekend in Foxborough.

First and second seeds

Philadelphia and Minnesota

await their NFC match-ups.

Last year's Super Bowl losers

Atlanta have another crack

at redemption starting with a trip

to the Los Angeles Rams.

And in the other game a repeat

of an NFC South rivalry

with Carolina heading to 4th seeded

New Orleans.

Hello, so the regular season is now

behind us and we're now

in the business of talking

about the playoffs.

Playoffs?

Don't talk about...

Playoffs?

You kidding me?

Playoffs?

We're certainly not

kidding you, Jim Mora!

Joining me to talk playoffs,

it is our two-time Super Bowl winner

Osi Umenyiora and former NFL

cornerback Jason Bell.

And we start the action

with Carolina in New Orleans.

With Cam Newton orchestrating plays,

the Panthers have started

to resemble the team that went

to Super Bowl 50.

In the playoffs you don't get easy

games - sadly there's no longer

Cleveland on the schedule -

so if the Panthers are to leave

the Superdome with victory,

then they'll have to shutdown

running back sensation Alvin Kamara,

and the pin-point accuracy

of quarterback Drew Brees.

Graham Gano had a chance to open

the scoring for the Panthers from 25

yards late in the first quarter,

but he went wide and it was only his

second miss of the season.

Now second and ten for New Orleans.

Down the middle.

Deep.

Caught.

Inside the 30.

The former Panther.

Touchdown, New Orleans.

Here is Kirk Coleman,

you are going to see, he levels out.

Michael Thomas, he is running

a square in and that leaves a gap

down the middle and Bradbury

is never able to fold underneath it.

They bring a five-man pressure

and it is just the breaks at that

point and like I said,

you are not going to catch Junior.

Graham Gano did go over from 27

yards to bring the Panthers

to within four points early

in the second quarter.

Drew Brees.

End zone.

Open, touchdown.

Hill.

Simply a break in coverage.

They bring both these

guys here off the edge.

Nobody then accounts for Josh Hill.

And he is wide open

for the touchdown.

Graham Gano was keeping the P

anthers in the game.

His field goal left

them trailing 14-6.

Pass is caught.

Diving, down to the one,

is Michael Thomas.

Hand off is to Zac Lyon.

For the touchdown.

Graham Gano kicked a playoff record

58 yard field goal to leave Carolina

trailing 21-9 going into half-time.

Early in the third quarter,

the Panthers again had to settle

for a field goal from Graham Gano,

which was soon cancelled out

by Will Love's 57 yards.

New Orleans still had

the 12 point lead.

3rd down and six.

Newton.

Olsson.

Touchdown!

They motioned Ed Dickson

from right to left, he sees

the defensive back go with him,

they know he is man to man.

He gets a good release off

the line of scrimmage.

He gets inside and Cam Newton

makes an excellent throw.

2nd & 7.

Newton in trouble.

And sacked.

The first guy there

was Tyler Davidson.

He was there at the end of it.

And Newton got hit hard.

And he is now down on a knee.

Looks to be out of it.

He was going to the sideline

and then he went down.

That was a big time hit,

as he came around.

It was David, who had been getting

better and better every week

for the Saints and Davidson

knocked him down anyway.

His knee was down before the hit.

That was a big time

collision with a big body.

300 pounds.

Meanwhile, the back-up,

Derek Anderson, he has been

battling the flu all week,

the guy who was a pro bowler earlier

in his career back in 2007

but he has only thrown the ball

eight times all year.

A 34-year-old, 18 year

pro, Derek Anderson.

Third and 17th.

This one is batted down by Jordan.

The word that we are getting,

is that he is wearing a shield

to help, so that he does not get

poked in the eye, because of that

hit, it pushed sideways and did

affect one of his eyes.

Aside from the trainer

and the team doctor,

they did have a specialist

in there and at this point,

he appears to be well enough

to come back into the game.

Big task.

Drew Brees gets around

Julius Peppers.

He goes on the run,

he has got Thomas.

Touchdown.

He has not had the big plays.

I tell you what, he impacts again.

With all the things

that he is capable of doing,

on 2nd down, the pass is caught.

McCaffrey.

And in the front race,

McCaffrey, to the end zone!

and it is a game again,

66 yards, for the touchdown.

You are going to see

the move that he makes,

right at the top and he completely

gets Robertson to jump

the outside route.

Underneath, there is no one

there and it is a foot race

and that is a great job.

There is a lot of football

left in this one.

Here is the situation.

You have got a Carolina

team with no time outs,

ready to get into the end zone

and if you do not get it here,

you are handing the ball

to Carolina, basically in mid field

and you are taking the time issue

off the board and the chances

of scoring a touchdown from mid

field go up dramatically.

They are going to go,

4th down and two, Drew Brees throws,

the pass is picked.

They are going to give

the interception to Mike Adams.

They were better off just

knocking the ball down.

You would have had much

better field position,

but just knocking it down,

but the call right now,

it is interception.

The call on the field

is an interception.

The defensive player fumbled

the ball forwards and out of bounds,

the ball will be brought back

to the spot of the fumble.

Carolina's ball, and down.

Newton in the pocket

throws, the pass is caught

by Devin Funchess in mid field.

Newton.

Passes to Klay.

Was he in bounds?

He was.

The catch is made at the 26th.

21 yard completion.

The catch there.

It got caught.

Newton just throws it away,

with Jordan all over it.

The flag for grounding.

Potential grounding.

Offense.

Number one.

It will be 3rd down.

He throws the ball all

the way back to the 34.

There is going to be a run off

the clock with ten seconds

and McCaffrey gets run over

by Jordan and he is in the pocket.

He is in the pocket

and trying to unload.

They have reset the play

clock on that last play.

A loss of 30 team yards,

down and ten seconds.

20 seconds left, third and 23.

Newton to the end zone,

Devin Funchess the target,

no flag, it is incomplete,

it is the 4th down.

Fourth and 23.

A sack.

I'm not going to take

the coward's way.

And point someone else out.

You know, I feel like plenty

of times this year, it was up to me.

I do believe I am the leader of this

team and the team goes as I go.

That comes with a lot

of responsibility.

The fact that we have got

talented guys on this team,

I feel like as a whole,

it still starts with me.

You prepare yourself,

you put all the tools into your tool

box and then you wait to get

to the job and then you figure out,

these are the tools we are going

to need and these are the ones

you hang onto.

Especially in big games like this,

when you are talking playoffs

and the next step forward

to achieving your goal.

That was quite a humble

Cam Newton that we saw there,

taking all the blame,

for when it hasn't gone right

in the season and in the playoffs.

That is the maturity

and growth in the quarterback

that you want to see.

Which is why I feel a little

bit unfair doing this.

Because we took a look at both

Drew Brees and Cam Newton and how

they warmed up ahead of this game.

Drew Brees, ever the professional,

going through his stretches,

going through his lunges...

That is nice.

I don't think that is yoga!

That was how Cam Newton warmed up.

Are we being slightly unfair

or is it fair enough?

Mark, that is youth!

Drew Brees has to prepare

his body like that!

Cam Newton is still playing, man!

He is still young, he can do that,

he can run around before the game!

A lot of times when we spoke

about the Saints this season,

we spoke about Ingram and Kamara

and their running game.

We have touched on Drew

Brees occasionally.

But during the coverage

of this game, he was huge

on Drew Brees and how he trained.

Bateman had gone to watch him

in practice, not only practising

the accurate throws,

but also getting his receiving court

to react to perhaps the ones that

would be just slightly off and these

are the two plays

that he raved about.

This is all about the body

positioning of the defender.

He is throwing the ball

where the defender is and these

are the things that you work

on in practice.

You look at that and you might

think it is underthrown,

but he threw it at the shoulder

that the defender was not covering.

This makes it so hard

as a defender to make the play,

because you step back

from the shoulder and

you cannot get there.

This is the play that he

really, really liked.

You know, he was a sensational

quarterback and he will have seen

a lot of quarterbacks practice.

Absolutely, man.

Use either throw here,

this is just outstanding.

This is what you call

throwing into space,

in a place where the defender has

absolutely nothing to do.

There is no way he can cover that,

because is throwing

to the back shoulder...

It is about how the receiver

reacts to it as well.

Practice, practice, practice.

This is old school Drew Brees.

Against his former club.

By the way, Drew Brees, 71% pass

completion for the regular season.

That is a record.

He throws, he holds three

of the top five single

season completion ratios.

Eight men on the broadcast,

then telestrated this play again.

And Jason, what do you see?

Because a lot of us

will just see a bicycle!

But what are you seeing?

What I'm seeing here

is the cover three zone beater.

And I'm seeing what Drew Brees does

well, he can throw the ball

vertically down the field.

And what you see at the bottom,

this corner he has this deep third.

But on his side he has another play

that takes him away from this.

And he sneaks it right

back behind him.

Drew Brees does.

And this is what he does best.

So who is Drew Brees looking

at more, step in and point.

I would just go behind the screen!

So basically what is

happening is this!

Basically this is what zone

he is trying to attack, OK.

Number 24, Bradbury,

that is what he has.

So basically what you want to do,

on this side you want to run

a short rout to making get

what we call greedy.

Right.

Just hesitate a second.

And that hesitation is

what Drew Brees takes advantage of.

And you see it right here.

One little hesitation,

and that is his zone.

That is the cover three beater,

you bring that guy across the field

and that is what happens.

To be honest with you watching

Drew Brees dissect the Carolina

defence, it brought a tear

to my eye.

Because all the talk

was about Kamara, Ingram,

all the great running backs.

People forgot what a great

quarterback he was.

Kind of like something that

happened here on our show.

People kind of forgot the great

quarterback that we had here!

He came back to us, man!

And showed himself.

That is what I'm talking about.

That wasn't even rehearsed!

I feel all emotional.

The NFL will be looking

at what happened to Cam Newton

and concussion protocol.

He was the victim of

a big hit in this game.

And he subsequently,

and I think the Panthers have said

there was something in his eye.

But if they followed the concussion

protocol, he got taken off,

he went into the blue tent and then

he should have gone

into the locker room as well, yes?

Right, but nobody knows

what happened in that blue tent.

No one knows.

What he was trying to do was get

more time for the back up

quarterback to come on.

As players, we have done that

before, we know this happens.

With the concussion rules

and the protocol, everybody has

a watchful eye on these things.

There was something

in his eye, all right!

But I mean, it is a serious issue.

It is serious, we're taking a lot

of risk playing football.

You cannot allow him to go out

on the football field if he has

an issue with his head.

I do not think they handled

that the right way, they should have

looked further into what happened.

12 months ago Atlanta

started their playoff journey,

which ended in brutal fashion

at Super Bowl 51.

The memories of letting a 28-3 lead

slip to New England are ones Falcons

fans would like to forget, fast.

Back on the playoff path,

they started 2018 in Los Angeles

against a Rams side that

have defied expectation.

A lot has happened in the 32 years

since the Rams hosted playoff

football in Los Angeles.

In 1986 the New England Patriots had

none of their five Super Bowl wins,

but more to the point quarterback

Jared Goff and head coach

Sean McVay were not even born.

Sean McVay were not even born.

The 2017 Rams reset is underway.

The perfect fit to lead

the Los Angeles Rams was Sean McVay.

For the first time since 2003

the Rams are the best in the West.

Rams, here comes Atlanta.

Don't do nobody

else's job but yours!

Take advantage of this moment!

We are confident, we

believe in ourselves.

And we believe in our

experience in the past.

It is never more

important than this week.

COMMENTARY: The game is not

even six minutes old.

Two explosive offences.

No first downs yet.

Four three and outs.

Starts for the fair catch

then has to let it go.

And the ball is loose.

And it hit Cooper and if the Falcons

recover it, they're going

to be in great shape.

And they think they have,

waiting for the crew

to come in and let us know.

Atlanta's ball.

No question, Cooper

touched the ball.

But then there is a state

of confusion out there as the other

players were confused.

Do we grab it, do we not?

We're not sure.

Countess didn't know

exactly what to do.

And ultimately that cost

the Rams the football.

And that is a huge play

for the Atlanta Falcons.

COMMENTARY: Cooper from the nine

yard line to run it back.

He lost his vision and Kazee

was able to come in and

punch that thing out.

a little bit too early,

I think when you look back on it,

certainly starting with me,

there is a lot of things we can do

just to put players in better

positions to have success.

Any time you lose the turnover

battle you're going to make it

extremely difficult on yourself.

What a total team effort,

it came from our group of guys.

This is certainly a battle tested

brotherhood for us and I thought

that paid off tonight.

We are building a foundation

where that trajectories pointing

upward for the Rams.

And it starts with a bunch of great

people and that is what we do have.

We're really pumped

on the performance tonight,

I felt the guys displayed a lot

of toughness and resilience.

And you know, we have a lot to prove

and we're certainly looking

forward to our next game.

So Atlanta's shot at Super Bowl

redemption contiues after that

controlled win in Los Angeles.

As the lowest ranked seed they go

to number 1 seeds Philadelphia,

where they'll no doubt sense

an opportunity at an Eagles

team minus Carson Wentz.

In the other tie 4th seeds

New Orleans head to Minnesota

for a mouthwatering game

against the Vikings.

Dan Quinn described his players

as battle tested brotherhood.

Can you simplify and say

it was a team full

of experience in the play-offs

against an inexperienced team in the

Rams, can you say that?

I can say that.

Why can you say that?

Because there is nothing

more important in

football than being

experienced in a situation,

especially a situation of

football.

And they have been through all those

situations because of the

last year.

So whatever happens in the game,

you are prepared for it.

There's no question about that.

Obviously we knew that

the Rams were a young

football team, we knew

that

they had a bunch of talent.

But the Atlanta Falcons,

their battle

tested, battle hardened.

And they showed that

throughout the entire

football game.

The Rams offence has been

so exciting this season and we

have gone on about it loads.

And yet the Atlanta

defence to all intents

and purposes, shut it down.

First of all, look

at how they pressured Goff.

To all intents and purposes.

I used to think

it was intensive purposes.

It is intents and purposes.

OK.

Obviously, I mean,

going up against a young

quarterback, you want to put

pressure on the quarterback.

And you can see the

Atlanta Falcons do this

tremendously.

Nowhere to step up, swarming him.

You see the guy coming at the edge,

Mike Harris, he is an

outstanding football player.

Coming up the edge,

bringing the guy down.

And up the middle

here, just pressure.

Sometimes it is not even

about getting sacked.

Sometimes you just

want to make the guy

uncomfortable in the pocket and

force him to make throws and you see

him right here, hesitating,

holding on to the football.

So it plants that seed of doubt.

It doesn't matter if you don't

hit it, but if you get

near it plants the seed of doubt.

It makes him uncomfortable, makes

and start thinking, makes him start

chasing ghosts, is what

we like to call it.

That is what happened to him.

Tom Gurley has been such a weapon

for them as well over the

course of this season.

Atlanta dealt with him.

But they also dealt

with the receivers as well.

Which is your area of expertise.

So the floor is all yours!

I love it!

One thing about this

team, they are a great

tackling defence.

And they knew they had to do this.

If you look right here,

Brian Poole and this tackle he

makes on Gurley.

This is what you have to do.

You have to be able

to tackle in the open field.

Get him down, one-on-one tackles.

You must win against

a back like Gurley.

And you see that going

through and being

successful.

And right here Alfred,

usually the number two corner on

this team, he had a great game.

As you see right there,

against the speed receiver,

he makes a big play.

Once again Gurley, and this is team

tackling, get on the ground.

Don't let him breakthrough.

And here you see a play

by the other quarter, who

has two brothers by the way

in play in the NFL.

All corners, making

a good play right there.

And that is what you've got to do.

As far as the Rams are

concerned, just a quick one

on them.

In many ways this season they have

actually been ahead of

schedule compared to where

they were last season.

So they should not be too

downhearted at losing in the

play-offs.

They should not be

disappointed at all.

They had a fantastic

season, given the

expectations.

Nobody thought they were going

to come as far as they

came.

And this is an outstanding young

football team with a good

nucleus.

They're going to be a formidable

team for years to come.

Yes, but they've got

to sign Aaron Donald.

He was arguably the best

defensive player in football.

They've got to get him back.

Big money.

They opened the regular season

with a huge win in New England

and quickly went to 5-0.

Osi aside, Kansas City

were being talked of by many

as Super Bowl contenders.

A rocky period ensued for the Chiefs

with 5 wins from 11,

however they made the post season

and face a Tennessee team

without a playoff win since 2003.

As Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota

makes his first appearance

in the playoffs a worrying stat hung

over Arrowhead stadium -

the Chiefs have lost their last

five home playoff games.

COMMENTARY: This time

a touchdown for Kareem Hunt.

Hard to stop.

You could hand the ball

to Kareem Hunt, Alex Smith can keep

it, and it is miserable

on a defence.

Touchdown, that was easy.

Travis Kelce in the endzone

for Kansas City.

Alex Smith, some of these

plays are hard to defend.

Play-action pass.

You see Williamson step up.

STUDIO: Ryan Succop's 49 yard field

goal put the Titans on the board.

They trailed by 11 points with less

than two minutes left in the half.

COMMENTARY: Smith over the middle.

Travis Kelce might be hurt,

he went down to the ground.

You could tell the moment he went

He threw the ball between

the corner and safety.

him for a touchdown.

For the moment.

But was he across

the line of scrimmage?

I believe that is touchdown,

and one you will not

see for a long time.

He has had a hard time throwing

touchdown passes this year.

He will take it

anyway he can get it.

There is an uneasiness

that is palpable in this stadium.

Kansas City did not have a first

down in the third quarter.

They had just six yards.

The Titans had the ball

for nearly 11 minutes.

Henry ripping through!

Three Kansas City Chiefs over here.

You see the right guard,

and they punished the Chiefs.

Play clock running

down the whole while.

They get it off.

And the pass is dropped

That probably would have been

going on to divisional games, may be

a Championship game,

guy who they drafted

not through his passing,

but through his running!

Listen, he did what ever he had

to do to get this team

to victory.

Obviously, he ran more

than he passed, which is just

mind-boggling if you think about it.

But you have to give him credit,

man, he hung in there, he knew what

his strengths were, he kept

on training and he tried

to get the job done.

You have got to figure it

out in the game, right?

You have got to respond and no...

And therefore he deserves

credit, doesn't he?

Absolutely!

The guy...

He knew it wasn't his day

throwing the ball, so

he knows he can run the ball.

He was a good runner

in college, he said, I

have to move the chains,

give my defense a rest

and let them win

the

game for me.

Throwing 12 out of 23 for 87 yards,

you know, as you go

further, that has to be a concern.

I don't care how good your defense

is, you are not going to get much

further in the playoffs,

going 12 423 in 87 yards.

At some point, they are going

to take away their run and

force you to pass the football and

Blake Bortles is going to have to do

that.

Which he has shown he

has the ability to do

in spurts this season.

But as you have both told me,

since Super Bowl 50 and Denver

beating Newton's Carolina,

defenses can win

Super Bowl is and there are not many

better defenses out there than

Jacksonville.

They can, but ultimately

they have to play smart

football and they

happen to be rested,

so they have to move

of chip on their shoulder, that

everyone is against them, that they

are against the world,

They are very disrespected team,

there is no question about that, but

I think people disrespect the

quarterback more so than anything.

of defense that they

personality they have,

question mark.
