Another bag full of medals yesterday for Britain. Amy Tinkler the gym

last coming away with the bronze. But the highlights yesterday, Laura

Trott and Jason Kenny. They gave was excitement, drama and tension. It

happened in the velodrome behind us, and it was quite sensational.

Formidable individuals, together they are even better. Great Britain

has never had better cyclists. Pen between them. It was the last day of

track cycling in the velodrome. No need to be sad. We have plenty more

to come on day 12 here on BBC Four. Great Britain are already gold

medallists in the Gulf. What can Katrina Matthew and Charley Hull du?

They are on the course today. Disappointment in the Men's Doubles

badminton yesterday, Rajiv Ouseph is the last man standing for Team GB,

we were featuring the greatest badminton player of all-time,

China's Lin Dan. Medals being given out in the team event, unfortunately

none for Great Britain. Nick Skelton can still challenge in the

individual. Great Britain's women hockey players are closing in on

another medal, bronze back in 2012, taking on resuming today in the

semifinals. We will see the Olympic champions, the Netherlands, take on

Germany. And Brazil end their long wait for an Olympic football bronze

medal. They are into the semifinals. They will take on Honduras. Here is

how the afternoon of day 12 is looking on BBC Four. Over to the

golf soon and the first round of the women's competition. Then the

badminton, featuring China's Lin Dan. Then the show-jumping featuring

Nick Skelton of Great Britain. I wonder what BBC One are up to this

afternoon? Later, they will be down at the Olympic Stadium, another busy

day in the athletics. Castor is a menu will be beginning her campaign

for 800 metres gold. -- Castor Semenya. We will get things going on

BBC Four with a bit of golf. There cannot have been a more historic

moment for Team GB in Rio so far than that of Justin Rose. You wait

112 years for an Olympic golf tournament, and there had been

people within the game had questioned its credibility, but the

Justin Rose championed it from the beginning. He came here for a gold

medal and he got it, and he spoke to Dan Walker. We got you a sofa, and

everything. Come and join us. It's in the shade and everything. Justin

Rose takes Olympic gold. Have you taken the medal off yet? Briefly

took it off to sleep but it was not far, it was on the bedside table.

Looking back at all the talk about the Zika virus and whether golf

should be at the Olympic, you are sitting here as an Olympic champion

and everyone was desperate to watch the golf yesterday. It could not

have been a better story, for me. The way that the golf felt on

Sunday, it was a packed out crowd. They were selling extra tickets. It

seemed to be a popular event. A great show dined with myself and

Henrik going toe to toe, write to the last hole. -- a great showdown.

What makes these guys great is that they are fierce competitors. They

will have been sitting watching us in front of a big crowd and TV

audience, and that is what they love to do. They will be thinking, that

is an experience I would have loved to be part of. There's lots of money

involved in golf. It was not about the million-dollar check all the win

bonus but about the prize of finishing first. And that is

essentially what the Olympics and sport is all about. It takes you

back to your junior days, playing for love of the game and nothing on

the line, other than winning. My caddie has been playing that Spandau

Ballet song, Gold, ever since we walked off the course! I hope Rory

McIlroy doesn't mind me saying so, he texted me to say he was surprised

to see how big the crowds were and how enthusiastic everyone was. Don't

take this the wrong way. Nine days ago, my ninth old daughter would not

have a clue who you are, then she texted me to say, are you watching

Justin Rose, he is going to win? That is the essence of it. You have

captured that next generation by doing what you have done this week.

It is important, golf being in the Olympics. If we are looking at

growing the game, those nine-year-old children are the

demographic we want to appeal to. It makes me hopeful for golf in the

future. The significance of the major winner or the Olympic

gold-medal? It was kind of Timmy representing the country that made

this so much different to a major championship -- kind of, to me. It

was like a major championship and a Ryder Cup linked into one event,

which made it so unique. It has been a pleasure to talk to you. You have

embraced the Olympic Games and embodied the Olympic spirit and now

you are an Olympic champion. Thank you, that means a lot. Cheers. Dan

is not the only one that would want to shake hands with the Olympic

Games gold medal winner. There is at the top of his achievements are the

last two years. He has already achieved so much. Where does it

rank? A couple of Ryder Cup win series name and the US Masters.

Justin Rose has done all of it and then some. It's time for the women's

competition to get underway and representing Great Britain are two

women from different ends of their career. Former British Open winner

Katrina Matthew and 20-year-old Charley Hull. Only a few months ago

she was a teenager. She can't even drive a car, yet. Over the last ten

years she has been a great British hope, and in Rio, she's definitely

ready. We decided to take on around. We are at the 12th. We are going to

get going. Haven't picked the best of days. Let's do it. I don't need

to be nervous about being in the body with you? Know, I am positive.

I haven't had an accident so far. That was a very good shot. How many

times a week do you play? Four, five? Four more than me. Ranked

amongst the top 30 in the world, and yet still only 20 years old, Charley

Hull has a chance of winning a medal for Great Britain in the women's

golf competition. How are you looking forward to the Olympics? I'm

really looking forward to it. It is just going to be a great experience.

I'm going to stay in the Olympic Village so it is going to be fun

meeting all the athletes, and stuff, from other sports as well. I think

she might hit it in the water. My prediction is right. Splash! You

skimmed it, as well. I am worried that we will not have enough golf

balls for today. Golf hasn't been played at the Olympics for more than

100 years. Whilst there's been controversy surrounding the male

golfers, it has not put off the women. I have never been to South

America before so it should be interesting. Good shot. She said,

from between gritted teeth! Don't you dare! I told you! That's a half.

To stand up on that podium with a gold medal, can you imagine the

atmosphere? I think it will be brilliant. I will not think too far

ahead, but it is very exciting. You just take everything in your stride,

don't you? Yes, I do. I just play golf, I love golf. I don't want to

see any of that at the Olympics. If the Greens there are a lot faster...

I will half it with you. There is my half. Thank you. She has got skills

herself, Naga. It is the course in Rio that Charley Hull is going to

have to get to grips with. She has made waves in golf since she was

nine years old. Have a look at her achievements. She was the youngest

person to play in the Solheim Cup, just 17 years old, a few years ago.

So lots expected of Charley Hull, here in Rio. Let's have a look at

some of the TV Times to keep an eye on. Charlie will be getting going at

about 3:10pm. Katrina Matthew is underway at around 20 to 12. And

keep an eye out for the wonder kid, Brooke Henderson from Canada. Let's

see how Katrina Matthew of Great Britain got things underway down on

the course. -- Catriona Matthew. What would it mean for her to win a

gold medal at an Olympic golf tournament? We shall see. Catriona

Matthew is underway, down at the course.

And a few moments later, Leona Maguire of Ireland became the first

woman player to record a birdie. But it is Nicole Larsen of Denmark is

the early leader, three under par after just four calls. Let's get

down to the course. We can enjoy Kat Downes on the course. What is it

looking like down there? I predict some pretty good scores today on

round one. The conditions are perfect. The sun is beating down.

There is a very light breeze. It should be pretty easy going for the

players out there. Not only is the weather hot, the competition is

going to be what. The Koreans are the ones to watch with five of the

top ten players in the world, four of them here to compete including

the seven time major winner who has just set off on the course behind

me. You mentioned Lydia Ko, the world number one, she was the

world's youngest number one in the female game. She was the youngest

major winner in the female game. She would love to add another record

third CB and become the first female golf Olympic champion for 116 years.

She is going out with Charley Hull in what is going to be something of

a marquee group. Catriona Matthew and Charley Hull have their work cut

out if they want to compete with the best in the world here. Five of the

best top ten men in the world did not turn up because of the Zika

virus, but it is a full strength field for the women. Let's go over

to tee one. Brook Henderson, aged just 18, is one of the ones to

watch. I will hand you over to the commentary team Brandon Telfer and

Alan Wilkins. She gives it a fair while up as

well. -- wallop. She has got to read it through those fairway bunkers. --

thread it. And she has failed to do that. Just took a little bounce to

the right. And the latest to finish up in that right-hand bunker, 260

metres or so from the green. Four victories to her credit on the

USL GPA tour. Major championship winners, all three of this group.

22 professional victories for the Norwegian. The last of the two major

wins, the Evian championship, which she won from Lydia Ko, three days

ago. This is the shot I have been waiting for today, Lexi Thompson,

the longest hitter on the tour. Her average stats, 280, 280 five

yards. No sound insight! A tremendous blow.

She is up and running, Lexi Thompson, one of the favourites, of

which there are quite a few. He is another. Coming in from just under

100 metres. A wedge shot for Inbee Park. That is what she will have

2"Olympic campaign with a birdie. And even better shot. Just peppering

this whole. She would not be entirely satisfied

with that. She will have that for her birdie. All three of them with

birdie putts from that group. Nice looking putt. She bogeyed the

first, but getting into more of a rhythm now.

She is staring this down the barrel. It is fine, it is a par-5, she is on

in three. A seven iron here. She put her tee shot into the

fairway bunker. She will feel she has dropped one,

if not two shots. It is not over yet either.

She just clapped on with her second. That is a bit off. A serious

misread. The Greens have idiosyncrasies. There is a

roller-coaster look and feel about a lot of them. The Mexican. Second to

the second, brilliant shot, well done. That is a certain birdie.

Not the first one to leave it out to the right.

She must have believed there was a break in that, but they have all

been dead straight from there. After the lovely half wedge shot

into the green a couple of feet from the hole... Just sneaked in on the

left edge. She gets a four. That is all that matters now.

Just the little deviation in front of the hole. She has to settle for

par. She will not be happy with that.

The sixth hole is the second of the par-3 holes.

The ball tracker for the first time today. A fine shot. Lovely shot. A

birdie chance on six for Catriona Matthew.

The other two have already played, Lexi Thompson is furthest away from

the tee box. She has a hybrid in her hand.

That is the longest drive we have seen today. A hybrid in her hand.

Just handing out to the left a little. She will be disappointed

with that, but she will have that up and down for birdie.

Fantastic, Catriona Matthew, a birdie at six. She pulls one back.

The South African on six. A bit of draw. She stays on the putting

surface. She also has a birdie chance.

She started her round with three birdies. She cannot make it four, a

bit short. Here is the leader. It looks like it has just come on.

It is OK. 31 yards back from the front. 11 in

from the left hand side. It is tucked in that little area, it

requires accuracy to fly it in. It looks like a free metal. She must

have had trouble getting out of the bunker. She is struggling on this

first hole, where many have made birdie today.

It is a wonderful field we have assembled for the women's Olympic

individual stroke play. 11 major winners, with 20 major titles in the

field. Here is one of them, Suzann Pettersen.

She has been such a store what in the ladies' European Tour and LPGA

for such a long time. The next three off the tee here at

9:30am here, on Wednesday morning. Born in Chinese Taipei, she now

lives in Santa Fe, California. Nine victories on the LPGA of Japan tour.

Sixth in the women's British open last year. Currently the highest

ranked Chinese Taipei. That is handy! I imagine it will roll into

the bunker. But they will have to replace it. The amateur from

Switzerland. Born in New York. She lives in Switzerland. Her father is

Mexican, her mother is French. They met at a golf tournament in France.

She has made the cut at two majors this year. She is only 18. She is

fluent in four languages. Nicely away.

Three victories on the Ladies European Tour. The last of the 2013

South African Women's Open. She won the 2003 British girls'

championship. A Junior Solheim Cup winner that year as well.

The second representative alongside Suzann Pettersen. There is the ball

resting alongside the handle of the rake. A debate has been debating in

Australia, should the rake be placed inside or outside the bunkers?

Lexi Thompson did not really release. She will have that for her

birdie. She has virtually been putting in

for birdie on every hole today. Brooke Henderson with a long birdie

putt. She will be a bit disappointed not

to have made birdie here. This is a birdie putt here as well for the

South African. Just didn't quite get there on the right line. Now Suzanne

Pedersen with a makeable birdie putt here on one.

She has actually played this hole better than her more illustrious

compatriots. It had to be sent cup. Up to the 5th

hole, and this is can become, in what they call the native hole

areas. The hole course was on what was a sandy wasteland. That is why

the grass chosen to build it has been very tolerant to sort. -- salt.

She needs to make a very solid swing knowing that the club is going to

hit it before it gets under the ball. Back to the first, Brooke

Henderson of Canada. Currently the world number three. This is for par,

just to tidy up on the first. Nice putting. It is a far to start on a

hole that has yielded a number of birdies. Larsen of Denmark with a

birdie on the first. Brooke Henderson has 71 holes left so she

doesn't need to get too down on herself for missing out on a birdie

in this 1st hole. Both Henderson and Thompson

struggling on this 1st hole. A big deep breath, then, to mask her

disappointment. Back up to the sixth. The co-leader,

Nicole Larsen for par on the par-3, which she does nicely. The

co-leader, Larsen and Candy Kong, from Chinese Taipei. 160- old meters

from the hole here. -- 160-odd. That has been a popular landing area for

many today, about 20 metres short of the green. And now the second shot

on the par-5. The second, a 424 yard hole. Just

finished ahead of the ball of Indy Park. Another long par-4, 400 nine

yards. -- 409 yards. Four par fours over 400 yards. 376 metres. In these

conditions today, not too many problems.

Please welcome to the tee, the players in group 12. From Spain,

Carlota Ciganda. From Russian Federation Maria vitch another. --

VErchenova. And from India, Aditi Ashok. Spain, Russia and India,

where our next three golfers are from. Aditi Ashok, the 18-year-old

from Bangalore plays her golf at the Bangalore golf club. And the

Spaniard, Carlota Ciganda, her uncle Angel is a soccer player who played

two caps for Spain. She has had a wonderful amateur career, Carlota

Ciganda, and the ladies European rookie pro of the year when she was

the players Player of the Year in 2012. But a Mac wins on the LET. --

four wins on the LET. Former winner of the British ladies amateur

Championship and the European ladies amateur Championship. That is nicely

away for the Spanish player. Now it is going to be Mariya Verchenova,

the Russian amateur champion and Austrian amateur champion. She is

splendidly dressed today. She is well protected from the Sun that

will be bearing down on these golfers for the next five hours. The

first Russian golfer to be a full-time member of the ladies

European Tour. Her daughter Mariya was born in September 2000 and 12.

She might be watching at home, who knows? The 20-year-old is from

Moscow. This is a Aditi Ashok, 3- Time National Junior champion of

India and 2- time national amateur champion, she turned professional in

January this year. Nice swing. She has already had the lowest

winning score on the ladies European Tour with a score of 23-under par,

in December 2013. She has two professional wins in India so far as

an amateur player, so Aditi Ashok of India is away.

Park is away here on this par-4 second. Beautiful shot from Park. It

looked like it was heading for the cup. She has got a bit of work to do

for the putt for par. That is a situation at the top of the

leaderboard, with Larsen and Kung at 3-under. Now, Larsen. On the par-4

7th hole. 147 metres left. It is a long drive, of about 240 metres.

She hasn't put a foot wrong today, Larsen, with three pass, and three

birdies. Making the most of this front nine, which is the key to

scoring on this course. You have got to get off to a fast start.

It was absolutely on line. Another long putt for birdie, but she has

made a couple of those today. Teresa Liu. It is early in the day,

but if you focus on the ball when these putts are rolling, you will

see that is absolutely no bobble on any of these greens. Kung, a la

joint leader. -- a la joint leader. Absolute perfection.

Valenzuela playing her 1st hole, and has this for a four.

Not the first golfer to go down that left edge of the hole, but there is

no break in it at all. She has to also settle for five.

Par on the second. Stay at the 2nd were in the park is to putt. She has

a little bit of work to do after coming up short at the 2nd -- In Bee

Park. A very positive putt from Park, a very pillar member of the

LPGA Tour. Good luck, Suzanne Pettersen, good luck. She will just

have to take this on the chin, and see going back down into the bunker.

I can't see any way she can advance this. Let's see how she goes. Take

the club straight back up in the air. And that is about as best as

she could do from here. She didn't have enough angle. Yes, and if she

had gone back facing the other way, she had some scrubland to face. This

is her third shot. I'm not sure that she is happy with

that, either, the way that she turned her head, as soon as she hit

the ball. She is playing with Lexi Thompson, from the US. This is the

second shot for Lexi Thompson, at the 2nd. 176 yards to the hole. That

is a powerful golf swing. Certainly got a good, clean contact, and she

has the length to get here in two. She is there in two, 424 yards.

One of the co-leaders. She has a birdie putt. There are lots of

birdie opportunities, especially on the first ten holes. In a quiet way,

with 79 bunkers and other features, the course has a way of snapping at

your heels, eating away at you, as Suzann Pettersen has found. It's so

lovely balance. It really is. A superb course design.

He worked in collaboration with Amy Alcott to produce this wonderful

design. The same course of the men used, but the holes play shorter.

Part 71. A birdie opportunity to go to for under. Not her best putt. It

is not bad! I thought of -- it was going to die. She knew the pace

well. Please welcome the players in group 13.

The Danish player tied for the lead on three under par with the Chinese

Taipei player. They lead through seven holes. Catriona Matthew, a

mixed start, she double bogeyed the third, she has picked one back, so

she is now one over, four shots off the lead, as she makes her way

around. Charley Hull the other member of the British team, it is a

mixture of youth and experience, Catriona Matthew is 46, Charley Hull

20. She tees off last, at 1109 AM, which is 3:10pm back home in the UK.

All eyes will be on her last group of the day, alongside Lydia Ko, the

19-year-old world number one, part of a prodigious new wave of young

female golfers, and Anna Nordqvist, a major champion herself. A big task

for Charley Hull as she goes with some of the biggest names. Catriona

Matthew has her work cut out, but they do have a secret weapon in

their back, because Justin Rose left his yardage book and course notes

for them to study, full of tips on how to tackle the course. Perhaps

that will give them the edge over the field over the coming days.

A gold medallist and a very generous man! I am sure we will be down with

other side this Olympic course. Looking to upset the world order for

Great Britain, Rajeev Youssef. Yes, Brazil, bring it on! He is going in

the men's singles, but a man who has made a habit of winning gold is Lin

Dan, a double Olympic gold medallist. He got his first in

Beijing, before he retained his title at London 2012. He beat Lee

Chong Wei to take the gold. He just went, and why wouldn't you? It is

one of China's favourite sports. He enjoyed the crowd and saluted to all

four corners, as is his trademark. Well done, Lin Dan. A lot of people

think he is the greatest player that Badminton has ever seen. Here is

why. We could put more on that graphic,

but we don't have room. We have already seen 1/4-final. The man who

he beat in 2012, Lee Chong Wei, he is through, after beating Chou

Tien-chan, the world number six. Coming through 2-0 in games. The

Malaysian through to another Olympic semifinal, and it is he who Lin Dan

would play in the semifinals if he were to get there. Lin Dan has

business to do. We shall see the Rajiv Ouseph much

later on BBC Four. We will watch the second quarterfinal between Lin Dan

and Srikanth Kidambi of India, who beat the Danish player in the last

16. He knows his way around a badminton court as well. We will

join it with the match already under way.

The Olympic quarterfinal, Srikanth Kidambi, the number nine seed,

against the two-time defending champion, the left-handed Lin Dan of

China. This is the fourth meeting between

these players. Lin Dan won the first two. Last time, in the final of the

2014 China Premier super series, Srikanth Kidambi beat Lin Dan on

home soil in two straight games. 21-19, 20 1-17. He knows he has more

than a chance here. An error on the net plate. He has to

get his net shots really tight, so he has to go for that. He does, he

is coming up against one of the best in the world. It is about the

ability to play with control, but also with accuracy, to be able to

put Lin Dan under pressure. Coming tight to the net. It is not coming

off for him, though. Taken with the sideways drift. I

think it is essential that Srikanth Kidambi get a good start. Singles

players usually prefer to play against the drift. In this scenario,

Srikanth Kidambi is starting the better end of the court, cost them

they can punch it through and make sure they get the shuttle to the

back. Lin Dan on the near side has to be very careful about his lifts.

He looks nervous, Srikanth Kidambi. He is trying to overplay his shots.

He needs to keep the control. Lin Dan relies on his accuracy and

technical skills around the court. He is so efficient with his movement

and placement of the shuttle, so accurate. That makes it hard for the

opponent to combat it. Such disguise and deception from Lin

Dan. Wonderful racket skills. Just held the shuttle.

He has pushed it wide. No male player from India has ever contested

an Olympic badminton semifinal. Four years ago they had a bronze

medallist in the women's singles. They have a player in the women's

singles semifinals here. How did he get that back?

It looked like he would challenge. Just asking for the court to be

white. The control that he got on it. Unbelievable. Ten straight

points now. Yes, inside the line. I thought it was.

He is vastly experienced, Lin Dan. Only seven minutes of play, the

mid-game interval. Not much from the coaches,

understandably. Just keep doing what you are doing. On the other hand,

Srikanth Kidambi's coach more than anything needs to calm him down.

It has got to be pure nerves, hasn't it?

Always dangerous to live to the Lin Dan forehand side. Cross called from

his forehand. How do you get rid of the nerves, then? The trick at the

moment, this is the worst possible start from his standpoint. I couple

of hard smashes? What to do? Get a couple of hard smashes out and drive

the shop a little bit. As we said earlier, in Dan he playing against

the best so he has got the ability to wish a little harder and play to

the back of the court. Has to try to play to the back of the court, and

get some of those nerves out. That is wonderful control from Lin

Dan. He has struggled to control this length of shots from this

nearside of the court. No such problems at the moment.

Hit the net cord. Seems to have stepped up the pace a bit since the

interval. He's pressing a little bit more, and playing, and getting a bit

more depth about his shots. That is going wide. He has taken

another one. That was going out. Got out of the road of the shovel, too.

-- shuttle. Srikanth seems to have just settled his nerves a little

bit. Which is why he's in the running little more.

Lin Dan is a man on a mission to create history. That's brilliant,

absolutely brilliant. Another player who has won medals at three

consecutive Olympics. In fact, we have had two players doing that.

Very nervous looking shop, still, from Srikanth Kidambi. -- shot.

That will help to give Srikanth confidence.

That has dropped in, inside the line. Misjudgement from Lin Dan,

now. Srikanth is getting in the rallies more, pressing more to the

back of the court. Missed it. That was an opportunity.

Just that little bit of tension in the arm, dragging the shuttle wide.

And the 2- time Olympic champion is just to point away from this opening

game. -- two points away. Make that one point away.

And the opening game to the reigning Olympic champion, Lin Dan China.

21-6, in just 16 minutes. Srikkanth did he has got to think, right,

start again. -- Srikanth Kidambi. At the start of the second game. That

is not what he had planned. It is absolutely vital that Srikanth

Kidambi gets a better start to this second game, because Lin Dan is a

terrific frontrunner. My goodness me! I think when the

draw came out and people looked at it, and looked at the seeding, and

then not been that wonderful match by Srikanth Kidambi in the round of

16, we would be seeing Jorgensen against Lin Dan, and the Danish

player has a terrific record against Lin Dan. And some people had thought

that Lin Dan wouldn't even make the semifinal stage. It is amazing how

different styles of different opponents suit other players,

because Srikanth Kidambi deserved his win over Jorgensen, but he's

been totally outclassed at the moment by Lin Dan.

That is better from him, isn't it? It's being able to put pressure on

Lin Dan, you have to take control of some points. That is what Kidambi

needs to do. And that is very difficult when Europe and is so

sharp and so accurate with his strokes, and replacement of the

shot, but he took his there. Lin Dan has said that if he wins the

Olympics again, he's going to add to his body art. He has got to win for

us. That's right. -- got to win first.

Yes, another look from Kidambi towards the sidelines. His backhand

side, he wondered whether he needed to play the shot earlier in the

rally. That one, perhaps. It is certainly a much better start

my Kidambi. He has been in the rallies more in his second game. I

was lucky enough to be in China when Srikanth Kidambi beat China in that

final of the super series, and I thought he just played such a

wonderfully attacking game. He was very positive throughout. Because he

was the underdog. He is the underdog here as well, so in theory he

doesn't have the pressure, but the pressure of playing in your first

ever Olympic Games, in a quarterfinal, when you are so

desperately close to medal matches, it builds up, with the Olympic

Games. It is a lot of pressure in that situation. And also, Kidambi

has taken a couple of matches from Lin Dan. He has got belief, but the

expectation builds that he will play well and he will challenge, and if

he doesn't get a good start then the nerves start to take over, but the

second game, he has played a lot more definite shots, with that and a

lot more attacking style. He is pumped up now.

What a transformation from the opening game. So much for my theory

that the singles players prefer playing from that side of the court.

That has blown that. It is usually the case, to have the confidence to

be able to play through the shuttle, when you are playing against the

wind, and it didn't happen in the first set before him, but he has now

upped the ante and is playing with more aggression in the second game,

and as his nerves go away, he has done well to build up a good lead on

Lin Dan, three points, but he needs to be so wary, because Lin Dan can

pick up quick points even there, because he's so efficient with play.

That goes down as a missed opportunity. Such efficiency in his

play, with Lin Dan, and he has the ability to suddenly inject intensity

and pace for four or five rallies, then backs off a bit, then does the

same thing again so he builds up a three or four point lead every time

he injects pace. At that is how he wins matches. It is not all

intensity all the way through. It is pretty hard to be able to do that to

keep that high standard, because you get tired, and you get errors

coming, but you control the rallies and you bring that pace in, when you

feel the time is right, makes him a very dangerous player.

In my opinion he was forced into an error there. He knew Lin Dan was

ready to pounce, he had to make it a perfect net shop.

That is sensational. What a wonderful defensive shot from

Srikanth Kidambi. Magnificent control on the shuttle.

Good, fast movement to get into position. When you get into position

at the back of the court, you have options, you can hit it straight or

across. Well, well, well. This is becoming

very interesting. Srikanth Kidambi with a 6-point

advantage going into the interval. What a transformation from the

opening game. We will have to have a word with

him, he is a softly spoken man, we want to hear what he is saying!

Could not quite catch that! I should think it is, keep doing what you are

doing. Keep playing the way you are playing, keep the confidence up. He

is playing some quality shots. Cannot afford those errors, though.

He disguise on the return of serve. What shot is he expecting him to

reply with? Surely a straight net shop is obvious, he was nowhere near

it. That was great. He is really

starting to be able to play with confidence, spread the shuttle from

one corner to the other. That is short. Clever play from Lin

Dan. You have got to expect the smash. You are vulnerable to the

drop shot. Working Lin Dan at the back of the

court before going for the winner. Much more patient play from Srikanth

Kidambi. They are getting very animated.

Spreading from one side to the other. You can see what he is

expressing. It is right into the corner, that

was casually left by Lin Dan. A complete error in judgment.

I thought it was worth a challenge. I think the line judge made the

right call. The instant review in operation.

The Indian fans here are getting more and more animated. More and

more vocal. There is no doubt he has had a

remarkable career, Lin Dan. At least one final every year for 16

consecutive years. At least one title every year for 15 consecutive

years. But he is in trouble here. We are almost certainly going to be

treated to a third and deciding game.

Game point opportunities for Srikanth Kidambi.

He was not far away. There was a big gap down the backhand side of Lin

Dan. Second game point opportunity, and

the second game goes to Srikanth Kidambi.

21-11 confirms the Indonesian. 1-1 in games. We will be treated to a

third and deciding game. I suspect the start to this deciding

game is crucial. It will be, for both players to get their confidence

leading in. Srikanth Kidambi playing a lot more effective with his

placement around the court. Interesting to see if the change of

ends will have an effect again, but both players are right into their

stride. Lin Dan with the first two points. It will give him some

confidence. We did not really see the injection of pace from Lin Dan

in that second game. The little burst for three or four rallies at a

time. Just a half smash. That's clever

from Lin Dan. He did well to dig himself out of

trouble there, Srikanth Kidambi. He looked down at the line before

hitting the shuttle, wasn't sure whether he should be playing it, or

not. Listen to the fans. What an

atmosphere. That has pulled just wide. There is

a challenge here from Lin Dan. It's his first challenge of the match. It

was desperately close. When you look at it from there, it was out,

surely. It is where the shuttle first lands.

In my opinion, I think Lin Dan is being more aggressive in his style,

not necessarily when he half smash as part when the shot is going down

in a downward direction. That has counteracted the attacking

angle from Kidambi. He is playing some superb strokes. He's getting in

a good position now, and playing confidently to the corners of the

court, and really stretching Lin Dan. Lovely, that, crosscourt. And

he goes back to the same side more than once. The double backhand.

CHEERING In years gone by, I think from that

shot from Lin Dan there would have been a big leap in the air, and an

explosive sort of smash. It is still an efficient move, but I still don't

think he has got quite the... Of course, now, the tension is now

starting to build for both players. They are being definite about their

play. That is a great lift. Great skills, wonderful control around the

front court from Kidambi. He has done well. He's back level.

Is the difficulty, isn't it, of playing at such intensity for such a

long time, keeping your concentration.

Unbelievable, that shot! My goodness me, didn't Srikanth Kidambi deserved

the rally? Because he was dictating the pace throughout, and Lin Dan was

sent the wrong direction couple of times. Look at that. Just having to

play reactive badminton. Great shot biker Danby. -- by Kidambi.

Kidambi is certainly playing some sharp net play, getting in early,

playing it nice and tight. That last one was a little bit lucky because

it hit the top of the tape and went over. One of his favourite shots,

Lin Dan. He wasn't missing any of those in

the opening game, Lin Dan. Now, a little bit wary of playing back to

the net. One game all, 8-8. Going with the drift. He was 1-0 up in the

opening game, Srikanth Kidambi and that was, until now, the only time

he has been in the lead in this match.

Yeah, Lin Dan, more and more looking to me like a worried man. Just don't

think he has the physical capabilities that he used to have,

of taking the shuttle early, the explosive movement. Extraordinary

crosscourt smash. This is what Kidambi is doing well, just placing

the shot to the corners effectively. Yes, and that wonderful smash means

that he changes ends in this third and deciding game with the

advantage, a 3-point advantage, the number nine seed, Srikanth Kidambi.

And what has Lin Dan got left? He didn't seem to like what his coach

said there, did he?! A fair bit of attention out there. He's under a

lot of pressure. -- tension out there. It was a great start he had

in the opening game. He rushed into that 12-1 lead, and then Kidambi in

that second game, he got those nerves out, a play to the four

corners of the court, started to direct the play, and now he's in a

great position. Still lots of work to do.

Does Srikanth Kidambi have the nerves to see this through? The

closer he gets to the finish line, the more he may start realising the

enormity of what he could achieve. Just brilliant defence from Lin Dan.

Just indicating to the umpire that this hasn't been mopped up properly.

The last thing you want is players slipping over and being injured.

Well, he bided his time, Lin Dan, until the opportunity to attack. He

was under severe pressure in the early stages of that rally. The

danger, playing to the Lin Dan forehand corner. He is challenging

the front court, he is playing some very tight-knit shots and returning

again and again with some very high quality shots to the front court.

He's playing with a lot of confidence. Let's see if he can hold

his nerve. Good flick serve. Well, this man has grown in

confidence on his net play, and in contrast, Lin Dan is looking more

and more tentative. Well played. There is a good reason

why Lin Dan has one to Olympic medals and five goal puddles at

World Championships. He is a class act. He knows that it is coming to

crunch time. Look at the movement of the racket

before he played the shop. Good net play. Even better lift.

Just long. Is there a challenge here from Srikanth Kidambi? Yes indeed.

I think that might have caught the line. I think you might be right, so

close. This is crucial. Just one challenge remaining for

both players in this third and deciding game.

There was a 3-point advantage at the change of ends, then your opponent

comes back, there is a tendency to have a panic, that he was calm in

that rally. Controlling the tension. He backed himself. He kept it tight.

He hung in there, waiting for the opportunity.

The shuttle bouncing off the top of the tape, landing wide. I suspect

the smash would have gone wide anyway. This is where experience

will have its distinct advantages. A tight situation like this. This

match poised. In exactly one hour of play.

It is difficult now, the cost Lin Dan has come back, he has more

confidence. You can feel the momentum has gone his way. It is how

Srikanth Kidambi can counter that situation. Everything is going

against him now with the momentum. This man has won seven of the last

nine points, Lin Dan. Srikanth Kidambi's delight quite

obvious. He knows each and every point is so precious.

Superb anticipation, taking it nice and high. Stepping into the shuttle.

Well disguised. Look at the reaction the point from

Srikanth Kidambi. Urging himself on. Problems starting for Srikanth

Kidambi with the short list, but he was forced into it because of the

quality of the net shot from this man. The short list. He was always

in trouble after that. It has gone wide. Two points away

Defiance from Srikanth Kidambi. A clear message that he is not done

yet. Who has got the nerve? Who can make

it count? He just rushed it, Srikanth Kidambi.

It means that the reigning champion Lin Dan has three match point of

that unity is. He has done it. The delightful the

defending champion Lin Dan of China. He was made to fight all the way.

After a nervous opening game from Srikanth Kidambi, he found his form,

he settled, and he pushed the two-time Olympic champion all the

way. 21-18 in the deciding game, coming from a 3-point deficit at the

change of ends. As I said earlier, there is a reason why Lin Dan has

one to Olympic got medals and five Olympic championship old models. He

is a class act and he showed it again today. This was the final

rally. It landed well inside the backline.

The Chinese coaches celebrate, because they know that was a real

test for Lin Dan. That was a scare for the twice

Olympic champion Lin Dan. But he is safely through to the semifinals of

the men's singles. It will be a rerun of the 20th of final against

is not just the players who are causing based, we will have some

from 8am, but they have arranged a party. The volunteers are welcoming

everybody, so it is only right we get involved. Here is my window,

after this lady goes through. I will see you on the other side, let's go!

They just make you feel good, they know how to make you feel good. That

was special. Everybody gets a flavour of that when they come in.

Thank you, volunteers, they are doing a great job. In five days we

will say goodbye. Wipe away the tears. Some equestrian to be dealt

with. The Great Britain team there, the team honours may have come and

gone, but there are still some individual medals to be decided,

Edgar did use today? Yes, today is when the team medals are decided and

handed out, but after yesterday Great Britain are not in the

competition. We have a couple of riders going today. We were supposed

to have three hoping to get individual medals, but Michael

Whitaker's force had to be taken to the vet last night, it was showing

signs of colic. We do have Nick Skelton and Ben Maher competing

today for individual honours whilst everybody else is competing for team

honours. This course is absolutely huge, there is no fence, which is

under one metre 60, and no offence under one metres 60 wide as well. It

goes up to two metres. They are big fences and the distances are tight,

it is very technical. Nick Skelton was first, let's see how he got on.

Nick Skelton, so I'm lucky not to win an individual to add to that

team medal in London. Took a long time to come back after injury. He

has jumped brilliantly, such an unlucky four faults which they

appealed in the team round yesterday and when they look back on the

plaster seemed they can just see the heels of the actual shoe, so they

didn't change the four faults. He wants a clear round now. Can they

come to their real best and put Britain still in with a chance of an

individual? Nick just having an extra stride but

safely clear over the double planks. He was desperately unlucky with the

water yesterday. No water today. I don't think it will be the end of

the world. The other horses have not been jumping them. He has cleared

that one. Difficult line! Just caught the middle part. Just

got to jump this last fence. He's going to get a time faults, I'm

sure. He gets that time fault, it is five

to add and Nick Skelton goes on to a score of 13. The other on a score of

13 at the moment is Luciano and Fit for Fund. Nick Skelton jumped a

brilliant round here, just couldn't quite release the back-end of the

combination. The way this is going, he has every chance of getting into

the individual final. We've seen so many big scores, the five faults he

had today might be OK. The horse is jumping brilliantly but as we've

seen, there is such a fine line between a clear round and something

that becomes much more costly. He jumped great, I'm happy with the way

he jumped. He may be caught the combination a bit deeper but he came

off that so well. Fingers crossed, if I get in then we start on zero

which is a different ball game. It's a good course today, it's decent.

But he's jumping great. I don't feel like he's not jumping well, he's

jumping amazingly well, so good luck. The time is tight. I don't

think anyone has been missing it so far, do you think they will take a

look at that? They have to do it within three horses. Vydra accent

the situation? Yes, five millimetres on it, that was close. But then

again, it was in, so... . -- did you accept the situation.

Ben Maher, the second and final individual for Great Britain, Tic

Tac, owned by Jane Clarke, very good owner for Ben and then inexact to

the same position as Nick Skelton. It is a clear round that I would

suggest would guarantee them an individual place, anything more than

that and they will have to keep their fingers crossed, fight their

fingernails to see whether they make it. If they do, Britain still in

with a chance of medals. Their scores back to zero on that final

day. Ben has had two fences down so far

this week and they have both just been back rails of oxers.

Ben has come out fighting today, he means business. I don't think the

time is too much to worry about. If he can just get round, leaving the

fences up. He's got that very wide oxer to finish with, 180 wide. That

back rail out of the way. This combination coming up.

He adds a stride to this last fence. It's a really big oxer. He's done

it! What a round. It is the one time penalty. No one has got inside the

time and it is our first clear round. Ben Maher and Tic-Tac move on

to the best individual score so far, of nine. That will get him through.

Terrific riding, there. You see him coming out the top of the planks,

Ben using all his strength and experience. He had to sit up and

hold Tic-Tac together. The time fault is irrelevant, there are no

horses jumping this track easily. That will almost certainly guarantee

him. That was a lovely round, just one

time penalty, but no one has been within the time. You must be

delighted with Tic-Tac? Yes coming he was fantastic. We had a few

changes between yesterday and today and studied the videos and yesterday

was an unfortunate mistake but he rode a little different today and

these are big jumps and we're very happy with how today has finished

up. I was just saying to Nick we're hoping you do things in the opposite

way, you seem to be getting better as the competition goes on and some

people are making hard work of this and you must be reasonably confident

that tomorrow is game on again. Absolutely, we came here for the

team primarily and today Michael wouldn't have been able to jump and

John had a problem, things just haven't gone our way but I think

Nick should make it and I'm hopeful I should make it for Friday now. We

have a 24, 48 hour period to recover and get the horses feeling good and

if Tic-Tac jumps like you did today, I'm pretty confident we can try and

redeem ourselves on Friday. Why Nick and then don't quite know at this

stage is because the competition continues, as you can see behind me.

We really have to keep our fingers crossed for both of our riders.

Don't be disillusioned with the fact that Team GB are not in the team

competition because we still have a great day of sport here at the

Deodoro. There are currently four teams on zero, Germany, Brazil, the

Netherlands and the USA. Three of those teams only have three riders,

so the pressure is really on. You can see all that on the BBC button

or the BBC Sport app. So many ways to keep across it. The

British riders seemingly determined to come away from here with a

jumping medal. It's so lovely to see the horses and their riders in

harmony. Living beasts that come together to make wonderful motion

and movement. Down at the golf we have seen a different kind of

wildlife. We told you about the women's tournament, the first one in

100 years. I don't think they plan this but down at the course, we have

a crocodile and a capybara going head-to-head! Who wins? We were let

you know, in that face off. Sometimes you just don't want to get

involved with nature. It's not just that conditions and the course that

the golfers have to content with, they have got wildlife as well. Yes,

danger lurks out on this course and it's not just the bunkers to content

with, there are alligators, as we've just seen, in the water. Charley

Hull just about to set off on her first round of these Olympic Games,

there she is on the tea, just being introduced to the crowd. That is

Lydia Ko, the world number one, 19 years old, the youngest world number

one in the women's game and the youngest major winner in the women's

game. Anna Nordqvist also up there, a stole what of the Solheim Cup. A

major winner herself. There is Charley Hull. She walked past me,

smiling and looking incredibly relaxed. This is the last group of

the data go down here at the Maribor in the reserve and all eyes will be

on Charley Hull and Lydia Ko and Alan Nordqvist as they go out in the

last round of the day. Charley Hull pushed Lydia Ko, the world number

one, all the way around the AMA Inspiration, one of the majors in

the women's game, in May, so if Charley Hull finds her game today we

could be in for an interesting battle in this final group. The

leaders at the moment well into the back nine, Denmark's Nicole Broch

Larsen and Candy Kung of Chinese Taipei. She is also on four under.

Charley Hull's Great Britain team-mate Catriona Matthew is also

into her back nine and she is on the 13th at the moment. She double

bogeyed the third budgie has gradually been pegging back those

drop shots, she is now three shots off the lead on one under par going

through 12 and under 13. Catriona Matthew actually going pretty well

in the conditions here but the Koreans are the one to watch over

the course of the next few days. They have five players in the top

ten of the women's game. For example here competing to win this first

women's golf Olympic title in the 116 years since golf was last at the

Olympics. The Koreans are really the ones to watch. Watch out for the

Americans as well, great depth of experience in their team. Also the

Chinese coming through as well, as Anna Nordqvist knocks off her drive

down the first. She seems pretty pleased with that, but Charley Hull

and Catriona Matthew both have their work cut out, both of them way down

the world standings, Charley Hull at 27 and Catriona Matthew at 46. There

is really great form in the women's game coming into this. The top

players in the world are here were five of the world's top ten men

decided to stay away over concerns over the Zika virus, all of the best

women in the world, barring a couple of absentees, are here. Here is

shooting over the Karabatic brothers, 6-foot six and six foot

eight, two big players suffering to get the shot away he did well. Free

We go a little bit of the hind Karabatic but gets his arm to it. In

pressure on the shooters and that was a dummy on the Lido but

Karabatic, he is a big man and when he drags you down like that it will

France ten to six players. They want to make everything very difficult

for Brazil and they feel they have the deeper bent and it is a tough

they can run away from Brazil a bit. It is through the legs of Gerard.

And Brazil are level again from Dos Santos. If you're going to make an

update of the two-time Olympic champions you need your captain to

play well and Dos Santos with his sixth goal of the game is absolutely

leading from the front and exploiting. It is saved by Almeida.

And Almeida is down and potentially winded. It is so high door again --

back to the Santos and the captain exploiting, he knows they have a man

advantage with the big man on the penalty seat, situation all again,

Almeida came off the bench and that is an enormous save to keep this at

20-20. Almeida is back on his feet. That swings the impetus back to

Brazil. If they can score next and take the lead and keep on the

positive side of the goals. A little dummy and into the back of

the net. Another goal from the captain. Cheering crowd on. Again,

dummy here, takes out two French players who crash into each other.

That is the first time we've seen him look like he couldn't be by the

dummy, the captain putting in and using all of the tools to catch him

out. Levelling it up for the French, who have 20 seconds remaining before

they can come back to fill the ring. -- back to full strength.

Intercepted. They are taking their time as they

get ready with nurses coming on -- Narcisse. Now the pace builds.

Karabatic Knox is in. France are one up. David is a megabits disappointed

on the defensive acts back to but Dos Santos comes back and put a

dagger in. Eight minutes gone in this second

half. Brazil 21, France 22. Dos Santos decides there is better

options. And they scored again, Brazil back level. When they were

down in the first half as he rattled off three straight goals to get them

back, here he keeps them in touch again. Surprise we spoke about

trying to get their top goal-scorer into the game but it has been taken

on by Brazil and the captain keeping them in this quarterfinal number

one. Given the Guptill or try to get a handle on the ball. France still

can come away with it. Karabatic same calm down, slow it down. Suarez

once again in the face of Karabatic. A lovely ball inside. It is of the

Brazil come forward to try and draw level.

We need another clean-up operation on the court that they will be

frustrated with that one. How can we proceed on the first step? Trying to

get the six metre area and the only thing stopping them was the woodwork

but a magnificent sequence. Interesting you mentioned Karabatic

said Condie because if they are burning like that, Brazil with the

fist pump and crowd behind them, it gives them that catch France on the

their rhythm now. Some of their passing really nice, the way they

the nine metre line, it absolutely had Brazil running this way and that

way when it comes to Sorhaindo. This is why France have won two Olympic

gold medals in a row. They will outwork Duke on the stretch. They

will move the ball around and wait for an opportunity to work the ball

concern if Daniel Narcisse cannot continue in this tournament. -- Luka

some of these players, like Dipanda, who has come on and looked

dangerous, only played ten minutes, whereas Karabatic has played 46,

Candido. He hasn't played much. They will start to use their bench even

if it's guys who they don't think are as good as the likes of Pozzer.

But Candido trying to give some of the stars a break. The back of the

goals, with nine minutes and 20 seconds left on the clock in this

quarterfinal. The winner goes through to the semis and at the

moment it is France who looks set to go through. Still got time left. De

your left hand, it's always going to be tough. It is a nice play by Porte

here. The good news for Brazil is that Joao da Silva is out there

after may be losing his wind, he is OK and with a nice pass for his

team-mate. Dipanda again, one little bounce, rattles the bar! Now Brazil

try and come forward. Fires it in! Good finish. Eight minutes left and

the gap is down to five goals. This is exactly what Brazil needed, some

scoring from someone other than Pozzer or dos Santos. He provides a

lifeline for Brazil. Narcisse takes that lifeline and pulls it back. The

good news, we talk about Joao da Silva back in after a nasty spill

and Narcisse seems to have no problem at all after landing on his

knee. That is very good news for the French. Goes for it again from long

range! We saw Pozzer score three straight goals in the first half and

now Langaro with a laser beam to the top corner, magnificent goal by

Langaro. Dipanda tries to go through the legs but Brazil intercept. Al --

Pozzer has come on. Langaro lays it off to da Silva.

Couldn't quite get it out with a chance to shoot. The whistle goes,

six minutes left. It's going to take a pretty special five minutes and 40

seconds for the Brazilians to rescue this one. We have seen dramatic

comebacks in the tournament so far, dramatic late goals. It has been a

dramatic match of handball at the Future Arena. Narcisse finds the

back of the net to make their task just a little bit more difficult.

He has been their best player at times and for him to have his eighth

goal, he hasn't scored since the first three minutes of the second

half, and that has been the big difference, not that they've gone

cold but he is both ankles maybe ran out of steam and France have

adjusted to the threat of Dos Santos and Pozzer. Out on the wing and

tucked away. There is the shot but there is the final whistle, it is

the French who will progress through to the Olympic semifinal. A

commanding victory, they were pushed hard by Brazil in the first half and

race in the same style with a bit more knowledge and experience behind

it. We've been together as a group since 2010. I don't think there's

any other cruiser that we raced then those are still together now. I've

definitely none of that has said that Alexa stayed the same

performance level throughout. I think we must have won a medal in

the 200 in every single World Cup would be doing a lot less excited,

which is one of the most consistent crews. That comes with just wanting

to be in the boat together and both of you still wanting to improve. The

sport has moved on a lot since 2012, so hopefully even though we were

just probably even harder to win medals just now. You always want to

do better and see how far you can push yourself as athletes. You

cannot do any better than Olympic gold. That is what we are looking

towards. Having unfinished business from London we know what we're going

to do, we are racing to win. They are determined to do well this

time around. The heat is also competing in the K-1 200 metres but

because it is his birthday today they will be keen to do very well

this afternoon. They are actually 12 gold medal to be awarded in the

canoe spread, here's how they might be one.

Canoe Sprint is a sport where athletes race canoes or kayaks on

calm water. It became an Olympics Porte for men in Berlin in 1936 plus

women's canoe sprint was added in London in 1948. The boats in canoe

sprint other kayak and the canoe. Women only compete in kayaks and

have four events while men have events in both, three canoe and five

kayak. In kayak races the athlete is seated with a double bladed paddle

used to propel the book forward from the insights and have a foot

operated rodders two Roger to steer. In canoe they have a single bladed

paddle and use or operate position, kneeling on one knee, the other leg

forward with the foot flat on the floor inside the boat. This gives

stability and help the competitor to power the ball forward. All races

are over 200, 500 or 1000 metres. There are individual, pears and team

events. Races take place on a straight course and each bold lines

up in one of the lanes. The first ballot or the boat crossed the

finish line is the winner. The most accessible canoe sprint Olympian of

all time is Birgit Fischer of Germany. In her 24 year Olympic

career she took eight gold medals and is both the youngest and oldest

competitor to win canoe in gold. She finished her career in Athens in

2004 at age of 42. There are canoe Salomon Kalou have already come away

with gold and silver here and Rio 2016. It's a different setting and a

beautiful setting, the Lagoa Stadium lake. What can John Heath and --
