usually have two. Joe Clarke yesterday was happy to point out

:00:00.:00:00.

that British conditions suited him. It was around 15, 16 degrees and it

:00:00.:00:07.

is not exactly British today, but the wind is here, meaning the gates

:00:08.:00:10.

are moving around and it means I have to take extra care. We saw a

:00:11.:00:15.

lot more penalties in the semifinals and we were expecting. The finals of

:00:16.:00:22.

C2 quite fantastic. We are underway in the women's final and we start

:00:23.:00:29.

with Melanie Pfeifer. She is going first, which means she produced the

:00:30.:00:33.

slowest qualifying run in the semifinal. She is certainly some we

:00:34.:00:37.

had labelled for metals. Absolutely. She will be looking to pick up. She

:00:38.:00:42.

may have to go back to Gate eight on her first run, but this is the part

:00:43.:00:48.

where she had the trouble. She will look to turn on those down and be a

:00:49.:00:52.

bit safer. She caught the way this time, a much better execution.

:00:53.:00:56.

Really straight line between eight and nine. The European champions in

:00:57.:01:01.

the C2 have just become Olympic champions. I wanted the same thing

:01:02.:01:06.

will happen in the K1. In that case, Melanie Pfeifer will be standing on

:01:07.:01:10.

top of the podium in around 25 or 30 minutes' time. Looking very smooth.

:01:11.:01:14.

Certainly doesn't look to be rushing it in the early stages. Wonder

:01:15.:01:18.

whether she is trying to conserve something for lowdown on the course.

:01:19.:01:23.

It is her style, she is very smooth. She doesn't look particularly fast,

:01:24.:01:27.

but she is picking great lines at the moment. This is a quick run. She

:01:28.:01:31.

has a two second penalty added to bedtime. We saw a lot of penalties

:01:32.:01:40.

in the semifinal. There is a lot of time to be gained on the lower

:01:41.:01:43.

section of the course and if she gets a clean run, gets shot through

:01:44.:01:52.

towards Gate 22, that will be handy. This is where she has to dig deep,

:01:53.:01:57.

this is where the training, those hours of training, winter and

:01:58.:02:01.

summer, payoff in the last 30 or 40 metres. Fractions of a second

:02:02.:02:07.

decided in the men's K1. Will this be the same? Melanie Pfeifer can

:02:08.:02:12.

just wait and see. Is it good enough?

:02:13.:02:19.

Coming into Gate 13, it was nice and smooth around the upstream. Maybe a

:02:20.:02:29.

little slow on the exit. A nice line between 15 and 16, that is where she

:02:30.:02:33.

picked up at his second penalty. Just clipped the inside poll. They

:02:34.:02:36.

have to be very aware of where they are, it is an agile game. They have

:02:37.:02:41.

to be flexible, gets tight to those polls. Not nicely going first in a

:02:42.:02:52.

final, but really, you can afford to throw caution to the wind as we go

:02:53.:03:02.

back to the top Slovenia's Ursa Kragelj. Started ninth in the semis,

:03:03.:03:08.

second in the final. Only 56 kilograms, but she generates a lot

:03:09.:03:11.

of power. The junior world champion from 2006. Now, 28, about as strong

:03:12.:03:24.

as she will ever be. This is not a smooth start at all. Having to

:03:25.:03:29.

really slow herself down. She needs to refocus and find that rhythm.

:03:30.:03:36.

Find the flow of the water, because this cause needs the smooth

:03:37.:03:40.

consistent paddling. You have to spot the lines. Nice in at seven,

:03:41.:03:47.

but it is all about the exit. Direct line 30 Gate eight. The king of the

:03:48.:03:52.

poll at Gate nine. Can she get the globe? Surprised to see her leading

:03:53.:03:58.

by that much. The top section was not tidy at all. Ursa Kragelj is an

:03:59.:04:07.

outstanding paddler, started her career on the soporific. One of the

:04:08.:04:13.

most beautiful in the world. She won't struggle with the conditions

:04:14.:04:23.

or the size of the water here. Is sloppy to second penalty on Gate 18.

:04:24.:04:25.

Caught it on her back. You could see her shaking her head

:04:26.:04:37.

to get the water out of her ears. This is not looking good on the

:04:38.:04:42.

bottom section. She won't be aware that she was leading Melanie

:04:43.:04:49.

Pfeifer. Perhaps she wouldn't have looked so resigned otherwise. When

:04:50.:04:57.

you want your bronze in Athens, what position did you start in the final?

:04:58.:04:59.

Third. A disappointing run from Ursa

:05:00.:05:12.

Kragelj. Melanie Pfeifer's is nothing special. Easy to beat at the

:05:13.:05:16.

top half of Ursa Kragelj's run showed us. A little sticky at the

:05:17.:05:26.

top. Having to be very patient to get round Gate three without taking

:05:27.:05:31.

any penalties. A bit too wide on the downstream Gate 18, clipping it on

:05:32.:05:37.

the back. Eight to go and just a reminder that the owner Penny will

:05:38.:05:41.

be the penultimate start having produced an outstanding qualifying

:05:42.:05:48.

time -- Fiona Pennie. It will be a tight one. Melanie Pfeifer in a

:05:49.:05:56.

fantastic addition. Stefanie Horn of Italy is the next to go. Have a

:05:57.:06:01.

tremendous qualifying run. Lead the way. The Italians led the C1. It

:06:02.:06:10.

doesn't mean much. It is all about the final run. Do you like the

:06:11.:06:14.

format now? Yes, it is exciting to have the one final run. They get to

:06:15.:06:18.

know the course and it is a different race every time. Hard on

:06:19.:06:22.

the paddlers, they have to come out, but I do like the attacking style as

:06:23.:06:26.

one run accounts. Stefanie Horn is another powerful paddler. As we

:06:27.:06:32.

mentioned in the semis, if she goes clean, she generally produces a good

:06:33.:06:37.

result. Top five would be good, but the Italians want more medals.

:06:38.:06:43.

Because the gold in the men's K1 in London in 2012. Will they get the

:06:44.:06:49.

women's? Not with too many mistakes like that. She had a much better

:06:50.:07:06.

first four or five gates than we saw from Ursa Kragelj. It is all about

:07:07.:07:09.

getting purchase on the blade, getting the clap, and the important

:07:10.:07:13.

part where you have to get the run of the boat between 15 and 16. 17 is

:07:14.:07:18.

slightly lower. Good news in terms of their position

:07:19.:07:33.

at the moment, but the Italian coaches will be watching knowing she

:07:34.:07:37.

has made mistakes, knowing she has given an opportunity to the

:07:38.:07:41.

remaining seven paddlers who are waiting at the top of this course.

:07:42.:07:51.

Nice bottom section. An excellent spin from 19 to 20, caught the wave

:07:52.:07:59.

well, but a heavy hit between gates 23 and 24. A two second penalty.

:08:00.:08:06.

She was 1.67 up, had she stayed clean. It is so important,

:08:07.:08:14.

particularly in the final run. This is the last run of the canoe slalom.

:08:15.:08:21.

It may be the last time we ever see the C2 in the Olympic Games.

:08:22.:08:28.

Desperately sad. Great to bring the women's C1 in. We have four medals

:08:29.:08:33.

to play with and we need to bring in the extra category for the women, so

:08:34.:08:37.

it is very difficult to also have the C2. Fingers crossed they can

:08:38.:08:41.

find the middle somewhere, but that is the two second penalty she got at

:08:42.:08:46.

Gate 23, and a heavy hit afterwards. All smiles at the moment, but

:08:47.:08:57.

Pfeifer still leads. Nobody has gone clean so far. All three paddlers

:08:58.:09:04.

have picked up two penalties. Luuka Jones is the next to drive to defeat

:09:05.:09:11.

this course at Deodoro. She is one cool customer. A New Zealand flag.

:09:12.:09:18.

Inside, she will be a bag of nerves. Let's hope she can get quickly into

:09:19.:09:22.

red glow. She was outstanding in the heats. One of the big surprises in

:09:23.:09:26.

the arena. Consistent throughout this whole Olympic Games. She came

:09:27.:09:30.

out great in the heats, a solid performance in the semifinals, and

:09:31.:09:36.

here she is in the final. She has been working with a great British

:09:37.:09:42.

silver medallist from 2004. They have been working on being quick off

:09:43.:09:47.

the polls and very dynamic. One of those kids lucky enough to be

:09:48.:09:51.

brought up next to an adventure centre that specialised in kayaking.

:09:52.:09:56.

It is about those opportunities as a kid, and look how it is paid off.

:09:57.:10:05.

No real problems, but it is a question of how quickly you get back

:10:06.:10:12.

in the flow. Can she get through these downstream gates? Chart on the

:10:13.:10:16.

reverse. It is all about keeping the height.

:10:17.:10:25.

Horan was just a fraction quicker through that stage and was leading

:10:26.:10:31.

when she came down to this section -- Horn.

:10:32.:10:37.

That is as good as we have seen all day, including the C2 boats. Bit of

:10:38.:10:47.

a heavy hit. She is back into the flow. She has to get the speed up

:10:48.:10:53.

and running again. She killed the boat speed. The big surprise

:10:54.:11:01.

believes, the big surprise of the semifinals. Will she be the biggest

:11:02.:11:09.

surprise of all? That is a genuine challenge to the best in the world.

:11:10.:11:13.

Luuka Jones has laid it down. Astonishing. Head coach will be

:11:14.:11:22.

beside himself. Those who he has coached have really produce. I don't

:11:23.:11:28.

know if this course suits his style, but that is quite unpredicted and

:11:29.:11:33.

just shows what you can do if you dedicate every single moment.

:11:34.:11:38.

Fantastic. Certainly they have been here an awful lot. Beside the

:11:39.:11:43.

British team, the New Zealand team have been here as much. She just

:11:44.:11:48.

seemed to be so accurate on the gates. Really spotted her lines and

:11:49.:11:52.

has done throughout the competition. Not like she just pulled a run out

:11:53.:11:56.

of the bag, she showed it from the outset. Round one in the heats, she

:11:57.:12:00.

was superb. She has come out and read on it. Save in the semifinals

:12:01.:12:06.

and saved the best run for last. Following Luuka Jones down the cause

:12:07.:12:13.

is Jana Dukatova from Slovakia. Fifth in the semifinal. A safe run.

:12:14.:12:17.

Two penalties incurred. She could do with taking them away. She might

:12:18.:12:23.

have do if she wants to match the time of 1:01.80 two. Fastest time in

:12:24.:12:30.

the semis, 1:01.50 four. Luuka Jones is not far off that time. That was

:12:31.:12:37.

from Corinna Kuhnle. Gate seven is all about the exit. A

:12:38.:12:49.

bit sticky, but she found the line. Quickly through seven and she was on

:12:50.:12:52.

her semifinal run and she is very much in touch with just 0.15 to make

:12:53.:13:05.

up. Where do you pick that time up from Luuka Jones? The only place

:13:06.:13:08.

that is Luuka Jones was not so hot was in the spin, but we know the

:13:09.:13:16.

following girls will have to be very tight around the gates. Watch for

:13:17.:13:23.

the next split. Jones' time, she is still inside. 0.16 is the margin at

:13:24.:13:29.

the moment. This was where Luuka Jones was a little slow. No problem

:13:30.:13:35.

for Jana Dukatova. She might just extend that lead over the New

:13:36.:13:38.

Zealander, but will have to wait and see because there are plenty of

:13:39.:13:41.

obstacles between here and the finish. She is really finding

:13:42.:13:49.

herself having to look of the polls. A two second penalty. In some ways,

:13:50.:13:54.

might be lucky to get away with a two. It's days two for now and Jana

:13:55.:13:58.

Dukatova knows that might be her chance gone. Luuka Jones survives as

:13:59.:14:03.

the event leader and that one mistake on 22 costing Jana Dukatova

:14:04.:14:09.

the lead. It is a cruel, cruel sport. Just as hard for the

:14:10.:14:17.

spectators. When I went up earlier to the great British camp, nervous

:14:18.:14:21.

spectators. You don't have a clue when you are competing, but when you

:14:22.:14:25.

gobble up there and see the families and friends all waiting there, two

:14:26.:14:29.

hours before the start of competition and they are already

:14:30.:14:32.

biting their nails, while, it is a long day. It is certainly worth it

:14:33.:14:35.

when they come away at the end of the day with those medals. Jana

:14:36.:14:43.

Dukatova sixth in the Olympics last time around, and who knows? Maybe

:14:44.:14:50.

she will finish sixth again, because we have another five paddlers still

:14:51.:14:55.

to go. Only one paddler has gone clean so far, and she leads the way.

:14:56.:14:59.

Luuka Jones of New Zealand. New Zealand have never taken a medal in

:15:00.:15:05.

canoe slalom. Australia have never won a gold in canoe slalom. It is

:15:06.:15:09.

almost unbelievable with the likes of Miriam Fox and Richard Fox and

:15:10.:15:15.

the daughter, Jessica Fox. Her sister might well be there in the

:15:16.:15:22.

start in four years. This is the race favourite. Number one in the

:15:23.:15:29.

world. Outstanding K1 paddler and almost as good in the K1.

:15:30.:15:34.

She has such a strong mental capacity. Lots of movement on the

:15:35.:15:41.

pole but I think it was the wind rather than the touch. Goes through

:15:42.:15:48.

seven in 23.5, 24, in touch at this stage. Eight, nine, ten, no problem,

:15:49.:15:53.

looked easy. Nul points seven outside the best at the moment.

:15:54.:15:59.

Tight in around the upstream dates, she's being patient, a lot of power

:16:00.:16:03.

off the water on the back of her boat but she waited and drone it --

:16:04.:16:09.

drove it out. A little bit sticky on the downstream edge, but she is

:16:10.:16:13.

using it to her advantage as she gets across wide into 17, tight on

:16:14.:16:20.

the poles. Dixit -- the quickest out of 17, will she do the same act of

:16:21.:16:26.

19? Has to spin. Spin. Spins early, has to wait patiently but drives

:16:27.:16:31.

across the line. That's lower on 20 than we saw from the New Zealander.

:16:32.:16:36.

It's not a foregone conclusion that Fox will take the lead here. She's

:16:37.:16:41.

going to have to work for it if she wants gold. She looks like she's

:16:42.:16:45.

working very hard at the moment, a little bit wide in gate 22. Not as

:16:46.:16:52.

bad as we saw from Janner Dukatova, who lost her chance of perhaps any

:16:53.:16:57.

medal on that suction of the course. Fox is going to be close, she's

:16:58.:17:03.

inside a 1.33 the margin and Australia have a fabulous chance to

:17:04.:17:08.

take the gold medal, their first in Kalou slalom. You have to applaud

:17:09.:17:13.

the consistency of Jessica Fox at the majors, double world champion in

:17:14.:17:18.

2014, took the see one title in Lee Valley last year, she has come here

:17:19.:17:22.

as the hot, hot favourite and produced a stunning time, quicker

:17:23.:17:25.

than anything we saw in the semifinals. Is it going to be good

:17:26.:17:31.

enough? We will have to sit -- to wait and see but she's a woman with

:17:32.:17:35.

a lot of talent from a young age, she was out at London 2012, a real

:17:36.:17:40.

youngster and showed such composure, such control on the water and off

:17:41.:17:44.

the water and that is her real strength, she is powerful, she has

:17:45.:17:49.

great technique and what she can do is actually deliver, time and time

:17:50.:17:55.

again. That is her mum, Miriam Fox, she was a French paddler, won

:17:56.:18:00.

Olympic bronze in 1996. Her dad was pretty handy as well but never got

:18:01.:18:05.

an Olympic title, so a nervous 15 minutes for them because we have

:18:06.:18:10.

four paddlers remaining. Katerina Kudejova of the Czech Republic. Just

:18:11.:18:19.

242 metres away from the finish, but 24 tricky gates to negotiate before

:18:20.:18:25.

she can complete the course. She took the world title last year,

:18:26.:18:29.

beating Jessica Fox on that occasion. Can she do it again here?

:18:30.:18:34.

Certainly looking composed at the moment, in control. She has a really

:18:35.:18:41.

good pace, quite a pacey paddler. She had a little edge on the

:18:42.:18:45.

entrance to seven, it's about the drive, picking the line, rolling off

:18:46.:18:50.

the waves, a direct line. Nul points 73 upon the split, that is looking

:18:51.:18:55.

good. Can she keep that? Don't forget that Fox wasn't leading at

:18:56.:19:02.

this stage and she got stronger as the course went on. Katerina

:19:03.:19:07.

Kudejova is going to have to do the same. She has a reputation for being

:19:08.:19:10.

typed on the upstream gates. Her coach watching on and that's not as

:19:11.:19:16.

good as we saw from Jessica Fox. That lead could have gone. 62.47 and

:19:17.:19:22.

she has a penalty and suddenly finds herself 1.19 behind, spins early,

:19:23.:19:26.

has to wait, wait, wait until she can get across the wave to 20. It's

:19:27.:19:32.

not going Katerina Kudejova's way at the moment and Jessica Fox will know

:19:33.:19:38.

it. She has to pick the line, a heavy hit before 21 and she has gone

:19:39.:19:42.

to the right-hand side of it, turning around. This is her Olympic

:19:43.:19:48.

medal hope over, surely. With the penalty as well, Katerina Kudejova

:19:49.:19:53.

has lost a chance but this is a sport won and lost by such slim

:19:54.:19:57.

margins. You make a mistake like that, you know you might try and

:19:58.:20:02.

persuade yourself otherwise but you know your chance of gold has

:20:03.:20:06.

definitely gone and she knows the chance of any medal has gone. 8.27

:20:07.:20:10.

outside and dropping down into seventh position. Fox, Jones and

:20:11.:20:17.

Jana Dukatova rather best. The subcontinent are leading this.

:20:18.:20:24.

Slovakia, after their medal in the men's C2, the leading nation in

:20:25.:20:28.

terms of Olympic medals, they have just gone ahead of France but fans

:20:29.:20:34.

can't improve on that because they don't have anyone competing in the

:20:35.:20:39.

women's K-1 final -- fans can't improve. Katerina Kudejova failed to

:20:40.:20:53.

produce her best. Three to go, Spain, Great Britain and Austria.

:20:54.:21:05.

That's a nice shot. Just Fox -- Jessica Fox, Luuka Jones, will do a

:21:06.:21:11.

lot of training together as we see. Maialen Chourraut win the start game

:21:12.:21:18.

for Spain. Bronze in 2012. Can she add to that collection here? Here we

:21:19.:21:24.

go. What do you think that the first split, Helen, to be realistic,

:21:25.:21:29.

within seconds to have a chance? I think so, certainly. Maialen

:21:30.:21:34.

Chourraut is a dynamic paddler, she has a light feel of the water, she

:21:35.:21:37.

is renowned for getting her boat dancing on top of it and she is

:21:38.:21:41.

looking good at the moment. A different paddler to Jessica Fox.

:21:42.:21:45.

She has to be tight round the upstream gates. It looks very quick

:21:46.:21:49.

in, will she get through the lid stoppers without any trouble? The

:21:50.:21:54.

bow was thrown high which will have cost her a fraction but it doesn't

:21:55.:21:58.

matter because she still has the light. This is where Jessica Fox

:21:59.:22:07.

came to life. Goodspeed on the way out, she kept her boat running.

:22:08.:22:12.

Keeps her boat running, get the wide angle through 16 so she can drive

:22:13.:22:18.

into 17. Again, Jessica Fox was tight, one, two, three strokes to

:22:19.:22:22.

get back on the water. That's her advantage gone without a doubt, I

:22:23.:22:26.

say that, she's made a good time before that. 61.32, so still looking

:22:27.:22:32.

good for Maialen Chourraut of Spain, who would love the women's seen one

:22:33.:22:39.

simply because others are such that enters paddler but she is holding

:22:40.:22:43.

her own at the moment. Back again, it's going to be tight around the

:22:44.:22:50.

upstream gate. She has to drive. You are not allowed to get annoyed with

:22:51.:22:54.

is on BBC Four, but with good reason we are switching the coverage of

:22:55.:22:59.

this canoeing final over to BBC One. If you join it right now, you will

:23:00.:23:04.

not miss Fiona Pennie at all. She's going next, she is still in with a

:23:05.:23:07.

great shout with a medal of course and the reason we're doing that on

:23:08.:23:10.

BBC Four is because we are going to take you straight to the tennis

:23:11.:23:15.

because Andy Murray is in trouble against Italy's Fabio Fognini,

:23:16.:23:21.

really easy first set for Murray, Fabio Fognini won the second and

:23:22.:23:27.

Maria is a breakdown in the final sett. Let's see if the top remaining

:23:28.:23:31.

seed, the defending remaining champion, can get himself through

:23:32.:23:34.

into the fourth round of the terrace. We will pick up the

:23:35.:23:41.

commentary in the deciding set from Simon Reed.

:23:42.:23:41.

COMMENTATOR: Murray in all sorts of trouble, he

:23:42.:23:46.

lost eight games in a row before the last one but just as you join is,

:23:47.:23:57.

perhaps the bubble is bursting four one, Hitler has played some

:23:58.:24:03.

outstanding tennis. -- Fabio Fognini has played some outstanding tennis.

:24:04.:24:26.

Murray working his backside off to try to stay with Fabio Fognini but

:24:27.:24:32.

there has been some quite brilliant tennis from this Italian, who beat

:24:33.:24:36.

Murray in a Davis Cup tie in Naples a couple of years ago and is as good

:24:37.:24:42.

as anyone has played against Murray, so he will be very wary of this

:24:43.:24:52.

opponent. He's a real peacock is Fabio Fognini, he loves the big

:24:53.:24:57.

stage. He's got it here, around three quarters full, at least 7000.

:24:58.:25:02.

Around this Centre Court here at the Olympics Tennis Centre and he is

:25:03.:25:10.

He is asking Andy, he's not going to give him any help. It wasn't.

:25:11.:25:27.

A little unlucky because he would have been in control of the point.

:25:28.:25:39.

Murray has been complaining he's not been seeing the ball as well as

:25:40.:25:49.

usual, it's the sunshine and shade. And in irregular patterns it is

:25:50.:25:51.

obviously pretty difficult. It's the same for both.

:25:52.:25:53.

A wonderful atmosphere. The Brits responding now, the Italians have

:25:54.:26:14.

been in full voice earlier on. For a passage of around 40 minutes,

:26:15.:26:48.

Fabio Fognini wasn't making any errors. It's the pressure of being

:26:49.:26:53.

ahead, the pressure is starting to get to him. Break point for Murray.

:26:54.:27:18.

And now it's the Brits on their feet. The first significant success

:27:19.:27:28.

for Murray. For some while, 40 minutes. He was broken four

:27:29.:27:32.

successive times, but now at last he gets a break back and the match back

:27:33.:27:41.

in the melting pot. Murray having to draw on all his experience full stop

:27:42.:27:45.

it difficult conundrum, whether to go for a little bit more and try to

:27:46.:27:50.

take the match out of Fabio Fognini's hands, or play safe in

:27:51.:27:57.

windy conditions. It's a tightrope. But some success for Murray there.

:27:58.:28:04.

And timely, as well. Murray was on a run since Roland Garros of 14

:28:05.:28:08.

successive wins of course, winning Queen's for the fifth time, winning

:28:09.:28:15.

Wimbledon for the second time. And a couple of wins here, easy wins,

:28:16.:28:19.

against Viktor Troicki, then against Monaco, dropping four, but this is a

:28:20.:28:26.

totally different kettle of fish. When Fabio Fognini beat Murray in

:28:27.:28:41.

Naples a couple of years ago, it was so devastating. There were no

:28:42.:28:47.

hiccups along the way, just a little hick up there. How is he going to

:28:48.:28:48.

deal with that? So one break each in September

:28:49.:29:11.

three. -- inset number three. world. Outstanding K1 paddler and

:29:12.:29:39.

almost as good in the K1. Serving has not been as good as

:29:40.:29:49.

usual for Murray. First serve percentage, 54. In recent months, it

:29:50.:29:50.

has been more like 64. He has been super cool, Fognini,

:29:51.:30:12.

after the first set. Can he maintained that? As this match edges

:30:13.:30:17.

towards the nitty-gritty. Murray was making a lot of errors in

:30:18.:30:56.

the second set and at the start of the third, but now it seems as if

:30:57.:31:03.

Fognini has caught the bug. You can see the wind rustling the shirt. It

:31:04.:31:06.

is a significant factor in this match.

:31:07.:31:21.

Close. Murray only has one challenge remaining and we are only in the

:31:22.:31:28.

sixth game. That is probably on his mind now. If he had three comedy

:31:29.:31:30.

probably would have gone for that. Well, the magic does seem to have

:31:31.:32:37.

gone. Maybe only temporarily, but it is definitely not there at the

:32:38.:32:41.

moment from Fognini. He has played some spectacular tennis, but there

:32:42.:32:47.

is not much of it at the moment. Fognini ranked 40, but he has been

:32:48.:32:52.

as high as 13 in the world and Murray knows better than anyone else

:32:53.:33:00.

what a good player Fognini can be. But which Fabio Fognini Ahbe going

:33:01.:33:01.

to see from here on in? A war of attrition. And who would

:33:02.:34:07.

you back in a situation like that? Fognini has to do more.

:34:08.:34:19.

The longer the rally, the better Murray likes it.

:34:20.:34:44.

Signs of unease for the first time for a good while. We saw this in the

:34:45.:35:04.

opening set when nothing was going for him. Then he was in the zone.

:35:05.:35:11.

Claiming winners. Not at the moment. The worm has turned. And Fognini in

:35:12.:35:54.

all sorts of problems now. Three break points for Murray for his

:35:55.:35:58.

second successive break. Sheer willpower is turning this

:35:59.:36:23.

around. Murray has been far from his best, even in the opening set its

:36:24.:36:29.

was virtually a gimme because Fognini was so poor. But Murray has

:36:30.:36:41.

battled his way through some low form.

:36:42.:36:47.

His team have been through a whole lot together. Murray is digging in.

:36:48.:36:59.

We shall be back for the tennis in a moment. Loads of gymnastics coming,

:37:00.:37:10.

too. Live on BBC Four. Just to bring you up-to-date with what happened in

:37:11.:37:14.

the K-1 kayak which we show you show you on BBC One. Bad news for Fiona

:37:15.:37:20.

Pennie, great hopes for a medal, but she picked up some penalties on her

:37:21.:37:24.

way down and finished sixth in the end. Let's bring you the rest of the

:37:25.:37:29.

headlines on day six of the games here in Rio. A silver for David

:37:30.:37:38.

Florence and Richard Hounslow in the canoe double, just like four years

:37:39.:37:45.

ago in London. Also a silver medal for Kath Grainger and Vicky Thornley

:37:46.:37:48.

in the double sculls on the rowing lake. Amazing when you consider what

:37:49.:37:53.

they have been through in the build-up to the Games. Hopefully we

:37:54.:37:58.

will speak to them later. The rugby sevens has delivered again. Team GB

:37:59.:38:01.

have made it through to the final with a breathtaking painful 7-5 win

:38:02.:38:07.

in the semifinal over South Africa. They will play Fiji. Andy Justin

:38:08.:38:13.

Rose has been celebrating the first ever hole in one in the Olympics. He

:38:14.:38:18.

is four under par at the moment, four behind the leader, Marcus

:38:19.:38:24.

Fraser of Australia. Let's go straight back to the tennis. Andy

:38:25.:38:30.

Murray taking on Fabio Fognini and it is for- three. Murray a break-up

:38:31.:38:33.

and serving in the final set. Shouting and looking down the court

:38:34.:39:22.

at Fognini. Another error from the Italian racket. They are coming

:39:23.:39:24.

thick and fast now. That's how dangerous he can be. Such

:39:25.:40:16.

a wiki style, he's got. Huge timing. Winner out of nowhere there.

:40:17.:40:51.

There's a lot of shaking of the head going on.

:40:52.:41:11.

The thing with Fognini is he can turn it around so suddenly and then

:41:12.:41:16.

be breathtakingly good. But he is far from breathtakingly

:41:17.:41:42.

good at the moment. Five successive games to Murray. He is a game away

:41:43.:41:47.

from the quarterfinal of the Olympics.

:41:48.:42:21.

One of the people said to Murray, how does it feel to defend your

:42:22.:42:28.

title? You said, I'm not defending my title, I have won a gold, they

:42:29.:42:33.

are not taking that away from me. I am just looking for another Olympic

:42:34.:42:34.

gold. It is hard to accept. You can

:42:35.:43:05.

understand it. He was so good through the second set on start of

:43:06.:43:08.

the third and now he is far from that and Murray is reaping the

:43:09.:43:10.

reward. Wow, wonderful. It is the back hands

:43:11.:43:50.

across that have been a feature of Murray's aggressive play, but then

:43:51.:43:54.

he changes the point of attack and here are three match points.

:43:55.:44:19.

Well, he lost the point but he used -- you can see what winning another

:44:20.:44:30.

Olympic title would mean to Murray. It's a way, and so, too, is Fabio

:44:31.:44:46.

Fognini. Murray is through to the quarterfinal.

:44:47.:44:53.

It was mighty hard work. Two hours and seven minutes, it seesawed so

:44:54.:45:04.

dramatically. It was a gift, the first set, and then Fognini took

:45:05.:45:08.

fire and it really looks tricky for Murray at 3-0 down in the third set

:45:09.:45:13.

will stop but he drew on all his experience and somehow he's found a

:45:14.:45:15.

way to win. Heather as thrilled as everyone

:45:16.:45:26.

else, bearing in mind what happened in Naples, when he was destroyed by

:45:27.:45:33.

Fabio Fognini, that is a concern grew -- considerable effort for

:45:34.:45:36.

Andy, because things were not looking good at all. Tough

:45:37.:45:45.

conditions. He has been able to come through.

:45:46.:45:50.

CHEERING Marked contrast from his first two

:45:51.:46:02.

rounds, Viktor Troicki beaten for the loss of just five games, Juan

:46:03.:46:07.

Monaco, he dropped just four games. He must have felt close to going out

:46:08.:46:12.

there this afternoon. But he has battled. He used all the resilience

:46:13.:46:24.

that he has at his disposal. He can relax now. Steve Johnson is the man

:46:25.:46:30.

he will play in a quarterfinal, Johnson who beat his opponent 6-1,

:46:31.:46:35.

6-1 today, and Murray will hope to play better, hope the conditions are

:46:36.:46:39.

good as well, but he has got through 6-3 in the third.

:46:40.:46:48.

STUDIO: Brilliant from Andy Murray, Steve

:46:49.:46:52.

Johnson awaits in the quarterfinals. It looks a bit wobbly when Fabio

:46:53.:46:58.

Fognini won eight games on the trot but eight -- but all smiles from the

:46:59.:47:03.

British top seed. He is defending, that is -- the tennis coverage will

:47:04.:47:07.

continue now on the Red Button, Johanna Konta is up next against the

:47:08.:47:11.

Wimbledon finalist Angelique Kerber, also in the quarterfinals trying to

:47:12.:47:14.

get through to the last four for her. I don't know what you've been

:47:15.:47:18.

enjoying watching the Olympics over the last few days, we had wonderful

:47:19.:47:23.

sport, the tennis has been brilliant, the rugby sevens, and

:47:24.:47:26.

hopefully some of it has inspired you to try it yourself.

:47:27.:47:31.

Get inspired is BBC sport's campaign to get you active. It's on the

:47:32.:47:35.

website. You can find inspirational stories from people just like new as

:47:36.:47:39.

well as hints, tips and over 70 practical guides to help you get

:47:40.:47:44.

going. There's also an activity finder to help you find something to

:47:45.:47:48.

try near you, and you can tell is how you are getting on and ask those

:47:49.:47:51.

questions through our social media recounts on Twitter and Facebook and

:47:52.:47:55.

maybe you can inspired to give some -- inspire someone else to give

:47:56.:47:59.

something a try. We are passing the baton to you. Get up, get inspired

:48:00.:48:04.

and get active. Well worth having a look at that on

:48:05.:48:09.

the BBC website. I was reading about Joe Clarke, he got into condemning

:48:10.:48:12.

because he went on a scout trip and look at him now, he has yesterday

:48:13.:48:16.

won a gold medal in the K-1. Hopefully somebody is there watching

:48:17.:48:19.

the canoeing, watching the rugby, watching athletics in a few days'

:48:20.:48:22.

time or the rugby, and that can inspire you to get into sport

:48:23.:48:27.

yourself. It might not be you get to Olympic level but hopefully you can

:48:28.:48:33.

get out there and enjoying doing something. Loads of information on

:48:34.:48:36.

the website to find your local club if you fancy having a go. Those who

:48:37.:48:40.

have done it and got to the Olympics and achieved great things, we can

:48:41.:48:44.

tell you about those now in our BBC for headlines. Silver today for

:48:45.:48:51.

David Florence and Richard Hounslow. A British guy going in the canoe

:48:52.:48:55.

double, just like they did four years ago in London. Florence was

:48:56.:48:59.

the man who finished last in the C1, he is back in the double with the

:49:00.:49:09.

silver. Same colour medal for Kath Grainger and Vicky Thornley in the

:49:10.:49:12.

double sculls earlier today at the Lagoa Stadium. They lost out to the

:49:13.:49:17.

Polish pair, amazing when you consider what they've been through

:49:18.:49:20.

in the build-up to these games, not many gave them a chance of a medal

:49:21.:49:27.

and they have won the silver. The rugby sevens has delivered in both

:49:28.:49:30.

the women's and men's tournament and Team GB into the final. They

:49:31.:49:36.

squeezed past South Africa 7-5. It was tense at the end but they will

:49:37.:49:42.

face the chief for the gold medal. -- they will face Fiji for the gold

:49:43.:49:47.

medal. Golf is that the Olympics for the first time in a long time,

:49:48.:49:51.

Justin Rose got the first-ever hole in one at the Olympic Games. He is

:49:52.:49:56.

four under par, four behind the leader from Australia, Marcus

:49:57.:50:03.

Fraser. Now, I know there were a few rumours yesterday the weather was so

:50:04.:50:06.

bad here at Copacabana that people were saying you are not in Brazil at

:50:07.:50:10.

all, you were at Weston-Super-Mare, someone suggested Scarborough and

:50:11.:50:14.

Grimsby! We can show you our other camera just on the right-hand side,

:50:15.:50:17.

which can show you the delights of Copacabana Beach. This has been

:50:18.:50:24.

around for 100 years, look at the sunshine, the wind is back, you can

:50:25.:50:27.

see the flags fluttering away. Those two there, that is Frescobaldi which

:50:28.:50:33.

I have been telling you about. Normally it is more frantic than

:50:34.:50:42.

that. -- Fresco ball. You have to smash it at each other, these two

:50:43.:50:46.

are sedate. Hopefully we will bring you some high octane Fresco ball

:50:47.:50:50.

later on. Unfortunately it's not an Olympic sport but we have plenty to

:50:51.:50:54.

cover. This is what we are bringing you in the next few hours on BBC

:50:55.:51:00.

Four. We will have the all-around women's final coming up next. I know

:51:01.:51:05.

there is bungee of gymnasts watching this, looking to get a glimpse of

:51:06.:51:10.

Simone Biles -- there is plenty of gymnasts. She is the overwhelming

:51:11.:51:14.

favourite for gold medal. 10pm, boxing. The rugby sevens gold medal

:51:15.:51:21.

match we were telling you about is on BBC One at 11pm, Team GB taking

:51:22.:51:26.

on Fiji. Fiji have never won an Olympic medal. Could it be gold or

:51:27.:51:31.

can Team GB be win as rugby sevens comes into the Games for the first

:51:32.:51:36.

time? Table tennis, the men -- the men's individual gold medal match at

:51:37.:51:41.

1:30am and we have some badminton a bit later as well. Right now, yes,

:51:42.:51:49.

it's about Simone Biles, this is the second of five potential gold medals

:51:50.:51:53.

she could win at these games. Let's not forget Ellie Downie, Great

:51:54.:51:56.

Britain's sole representative in the women's all around iss. She is

:51:57.:52:02.

aiming to beat the previous best magician finish of 12, set by her

:52:03.:52:06.

sister in 2008. It's time for some gymnastics.

:52:07.:52:14.

Hopefully that has got you in the mood. We will take you right through

:52:15.:52:40.

to the end of the all-around final. We can go to the Rio Olympic Arena

:52:41.:52:44.

and join our team, Beth Tweddle, Daniel Keatings and first up, Matt

:52:45.:52:50.

Baker. Good evening, one and all. Gymnastics is always a spectacle

:52:51.:52:53.

here at the Olympics and goodness me, we have had three days of

:52:54.:52:57.

gripping finals at the Olympic Arena. We are waiting for the women

:52:58.:53:02.

to enter into the arena for the all-around championship which we

:53:03.:53:05.

will talk about in a moment but we will reflect on what happened

:53:06.:53:08.

yesterday, with the men's all-around final. Do you think that was the

:53:09.:53:13.

best all-around final we have ever seen? Definitely, I think is the

:53:14.:53:16.

best all-around final I've ever seen. Just the standard, the quality

:53:17.:53:21.

of gymnastics on show was unbelievable. It was great to see

:53:22.:53:27.

someone challenging Kohei Uchimura as well. He was undefeated for about

:53:28.:53:31.

seven years but it was a fight all the way to the end. It went down to

:53:32.:53:36.

the wire, didn't it? It did and that is why gymnastics is so exciting, it

:53:37.:53:40.

was literally down to the last routine. Kohei Uchimura took the

:53:41.:53:51.

second Olympic title, here is Oleg Verniaiev, the routine, it was a

:53:52.:53:56.

high pressurised situation, he scored 15 points something in

:53:57.:53:59.

qualification but the little hop took the title away from him. He put

:54:00.:54:05.

in a huge score on parallel bars, enough to put him ahead of the world

:54:06.:54:09.

champion, Kohei Uchimura on high bar, but the little hop was costly.

:54:10.:54:14.

It was and he was nine tenths ahead going into high bar. Everyone knows

:54:15.:54:19.

Kohei Uchimura is amazing on high bar so he needed to create as much

:54:20.:54:23.

from that as possible and unfortunately, if he had stuck his

:54:24.:54:26.

dismount, he could have picked him but it wasn't to be. In the other

:54:27.:54:31.

group was a certain acts Whitlock. Because he qualified in 12, he

:54:32.:54:35.

wasn't going around with Kohei Uchimura and Oleg Verniaiev which

:54:36.:54:38.

kind of helped him, he started on pommel horse which is his strongest

:54:39.:54:43.

suit. He is world champion. What a routine to get his six pieces off to

:54:44.:54:49.

a belter. It was as good as he could do it Andy got a huge score which

:54:50.:54:54.

set is competition off, it relaxed into the competition. He was ahead

:54:55.:54:58.

right from the start and I think it gave him the confidence boost to put

:54:59.:55:03.

it through the whole way around. His next goal as far as the pommel horse

:55:04.:55:07.

is concerned is to try and win the Olympic final. We can see Max

:55:08.:55:13.

receiving his bronze medal for the overall, he has got his eye on the

:55:14.:55:17.

Olympic pommel horse title and do you think now he has the bronze it

:55:18.:55:21.

will release the pressure on him? I think it will little bit, the

:55:22.:55:25.

all-around was what he and his coach had been working for, they wanted to

:55:26.:55:30.

sort of, he has been picking up medals in the all-around and he

:55:31.:55:33.

wants to show he's one of the best in the world. Once he had done the

:55:34.:55:42.

vault he settled down a lot. He has a floor final to get the atmosphere

:55:43.:55:47.

again and move on over to the pommel horse. Is it fair to say he could

:55:48.:55:52.

sneak a bronze on the floor final, Dan? I think he could, yes. He

:55:53.:55:57.

could, he's feeling relaxed, he's got the difficulty. I think the

:55:58.:56:01.

pressure is off, he has an Olympic medal so he can enjoy it and really

:56:02.:56:06.

go for it in both the floor run the pommel horse and I think he's in a

:56:07.:56:10.

really good position. As you suggested, Beth, he has been

:56:11.:56:13.

concentrating on the all-around because that is the ultimate

:56:14.:56:18.

accolade and we will see the gymnasts working on all four pieces

:56:19.:56:22.

of act -- apparatus, the vault, the beam, floor, the all-around

:56:23.:56:30.

something special. You have to keep the concentration across all four

:56:31.:56:35.

apparatus, I had 35 seconds to concentrate on whereas Ellie Downie

:56:36.:56:38.

will have to go out there, she is starting on floor, she has to do

:56:39.:56:42.

that piece, then come down for a bit while the other gymnasts performed,

:56:43.:56:46.

pick herself back up, drop down, it's quite a roller-coaster and if

:56:47.:56:49.

things don't go according to plan its how do you pick yourself back

:56:50.:56:53.

up? There is a certain gymnast that everyone is looking forward to here

:56:54.:57:03.

in the all-around final, she is three times world all-around

:57:04.:57:05.

champion, she is Simone Biles. This is her first Olympics. She was too

:57:06.:57:08.

young to compete in London but already she has made quite an

:57:09.:57:09.

entrance. Representing the United States of

:57:10.:57:18.

America, Simone Biles. # lay lay my heart down

:57:19.:57:41.

# Laid it down for you # Laid it down for you

:57:42.:57:45.

# Oh #. This gymnast is so powerful.

:57:46.:57:52.

# Put them out to you # Oh, Lord, I was reaching for you,

:57:53.:57:57.

reaching for you #. All smiles from Biles.

:57:58.:58:06.

Matt Baker-macro this is that top group of six gymnasts. You can see

:58:07.:58:13.

Simone Biles in the middle there. Really, the world's media have

:58:14.:58:19.

already given her this gold. I mean, she has done it, nor is a lot of

:58:20.:58:24.

pressure on her. There is a lot of pressure, coming in as three times

:58:25.:58:27.

world champion everyone expects her to win and the battle is for second

:58:28.:58:32.

and third. We have seen her at Olympic trials this year, she has

:58:33.:58:36.

fallen off, at the World Championships last year when the

:58:37.:58:39.

pressure was on for the third consecutive title she had a fault so

:58:40.:58:43.

she has looked superb throughout this Championships so I would be

:58:44.:58:48.

very surprised if anyone takes her off that top spot. She is 19 years

:58:49.:58:54.

old, you can see her smiling and enjoying the feeling, the energy,

:58:55.:58:58.

the expectation. It will be really interesting to see how she goes,

:58:59.:59:02.

because she's aiming for the five golds. It's never been achieved by

:59:03.:59:06.

female gymnast before. Do you think she can do it? I think she can do

:59:07.:59:12.

it. This vault is unbelievable, the two and a half, she makes it look so

:59:13.:59:18.

easy. If she gets a perfect ten, which we haven't seen for a number

:59:19.:59:22.

of years. The bars is her weakest piece but even as her weakest piece

:59:23.:59:28.

she is still scoring a 15. The mind boggles -- boggles what she can do

:59:29.:59:33.

on beam. It's almost like a tumbling pass on the floor. It's like a house

:59:34.:59:38.

brick. It's unbelievable. The height on the floor area, she goes higher

:59:39.:59:42.

than most of the men do. For someone so small, four foot and eight

:59:43.:59:46.

inches, it's incredible. That will be her last piece of operators, the

:59:47.:59:51.

floor, because she was highest qualifier, so she will bring the

:59:52.:59:56.

curtain down in style but really, we saw her alongside her compatriot

:59:57.:00:01.

Alison Raisman and she is in with a chance of a medal here, four Olympic

:00:02.:00:09.

golds. She had to fight to get into the all-around competition in the

:00:10.:00:13.

first place, we had the reigning all-around champion with Gabriel

:00:14.:00:15.

Douglas finishing in third, so she has done the hard work just to get

:00:16.:00:21.

here. In London 2012, she was in the mix for a medal but she actually

:00:22.:00:25.

messed up on bars and came fourth, so she will want to put that right

:00:26.:00:29.

and go home with an all-around medal this time, and she is renowned for

:00:30.:00:34.

her floor and vault, where she is such a powerful gymnast and the

:00:35.:00:36.

first tumble she does, you are seeing it now, the one and a half

:00:37.:00:42.

walk out into the double Arabian, she doesn't just stop there, she

:00:43.:00:43.

punches out of it. If Mustafina can reproduce the

:00:44.:01:02.

performance she did in the team final, she could be Aly Raisman. She

:01:03.:01:08.

could. There is that potential there, she could split the two

:01:09.:01:13.

Americans and get the silver medal. That would be amazing. We talked a

:01:14.:01:22.

lot about the young Russians coming up from the junior ranks and really

:01:23.:01:27.

pushing the lights of Mustafina and that brings a lot of competition.

:01:28.:01:35.

The youngsters are really nipping at the seniors' feet. We saw Mustafina

:01:36.:01:43.

earlier in the year at the European Championships and she had improved.

:01:44.:01:50.

She has got the man in that she used to win the Olympic title in 2012.

:01:51.:01:59.

Would she be up on the podium? They have to keep an eye on the Chinese

:02:00.:02:04.

gymnasts. I think it will be like the men's it will be down to that

:02:05.:02:10.

last routine. The silver and bronze are really up for grabs. Let's talk

:02:11.:02:18.

about Ellie Downie because she had a bit of a sticky qualification. She

:02:19.:02:23.

had a few interesting moments in the team final. As far as the difficulty

:02:24.:02:29.

level, as a young gymnasts, 5.8 on the bolt. We know she has got a

:02:30.:02:35.

strong character and to come out after that for she had on the

:02:36.:02:39.

qualifications on the floor and then to go and perform this, under that

:02:40.:02:47.

pressure, to do it and nail it is something that really shows what an

:02:48.:02:54.

amazing athlete she is. She has made quite an impact on the seniors since

:02:55.:03:00.

moving up from the juniors. She had a silver on floor at the European

:03:01.:03:04.

Championships and she is a gymnast who learned a lot from her

:03:05.:03:08.

experience. If she can put into practice what she has experienced,

:03:09.:03:14.

she could get into the top ten. Definitely and she is growing with

:03:15.:03:18.

every competition. The more competition experience she gets, the

:03:19.:03:29.

more competition will get better. Her sister got 12 at Beijing, the

:03:30.:03:32.

highest place in an all-round competition for the women's British

:03:33.:03:39.

gymnasts. This is what they are like at home.

:03:40.:03:48.

I have an older sister Jemma and I am the second eldest and then I have

:03:49.:03:57.

a brother Josh. We did not know much about the sport and I got into it

:03:58.:04:01.

because my friend at school did it and I enjoyed it and it rapidly took

:04:02.:04:06.

over my life and then went Ellie came onto the scene, we did

:04:07.:04:13.

everything together. Like most of my life I have been in the gym and I

:04:14.:04:18.

spend time with my family outside the gym and that is what we do when

:04:19.:04:23.

we have free time. Can you remember when Becky made that first spot? I

:04:24.:04:31.

kind of remember watching her on TV, but when you are a little, it is

:04:32.:04:36.

like she is at another competition. I remember waking up really early

:04:37.:04:39.

and watching her on the all-round final. It spurred me on and I

:04:40.:04:46.

thought, if she has got there, I can get there as well, as she has been a

:04:47.:04:50.

big inspiration for me. As sisters you get on most of the time. Do you

:04:51.:04:59.

fall out? We do not fall out badly, we just irritate each other

:05:00.:05:03.

sometimes. What do you fall out about? Normally Becky's moaning

:05:04.:05:19.

irritates me. Coming into my first year I did not expect to achieve as

:05:20.:05:24.

much as I did. It was a big shock for me and I wanted to do the best I

:05:25.:05:28.

could do and to come third was amazing and it gave me a confidence

:05:29.:05:31.

boost going into the World Championships. We are interested in

:05:32.:05:39.

the same music and our clothes style is similar. We get each other's

:05:40.:05:47.

jokes. 30 seconds of warmer remaining. This is the all-round

:05:48.:05:54.

competition, so all 24 gymnasts will compete on every piece of apparatus.

:05:55.:05:58.

At the end of that all the scores are added together and a gymnast

:05:59.:06:04.

with the highest total wins. This one is about consistency and four

:06:05.:06:08.

pieces and you cannot afford too many errors. No, if you make one

:06:09.:06:13.

small error, that is your Olympic challenge over. They have got to be

:06:14.:06:21.

consistent from the word go. Dan, who is your one, two, three? Simone

:06:22.:06:37.

Biles, Aly Raisman and Mustafina. If there is a slight mistake, Ellie can

:06:38.:06:43.

get in there with a medal. Christine Still is very much a part of the

:06:44.:06:50.

great British Olympic project. She has gymnasts herself within the

:06:51.:06:54.

British squad. We are just watching alleyways and get into position. The

:06:55.:06:55.

top group starts on the vault. Doing one of the most difficult

:06:56.:07:21.

there is, she is the leader of the Brazilian team. She held onto it

:07:22.:07:30.

well. She has huge support here. Beth, that was a good start for the

:07:31.:07:37.

Brazilian. It was. You can see the flick entry and keeping her body

:07:38.:07:42.

straight. Just slightly behind and a small hop. But a superb start on

:07:43.:07:55.

such a difficult vault. She had major surgery in June last year, so

:07:56.:08:01.

to be back competing is a major achievement in itself. We will see

:08:02.:08:09.

lots of gymnasts using this round of entry. Depending how high they get

:08:10.:08:20.

on the platform means a number of twists that they can get out of it.

:08:21.:08:33.

It is a very good start. The second gymnast is Aly Raisman.

:08:34.:08:48.

The vault is over so quickly, but it is a chance for the gymnasts to get

:08:49.:08:52.

a high score and start off the competition as well as possible.

:08:53.:09:03.

She had a bit of flight and height left, so although there is a bit of

:09:04.:09:09.

deduction for not having much control, the judges were like it

:09:10.:09:17.

because she had a lot of flight. She is certainly capable of the high 15

:09:18.:09:25.

is back, Chris. She is indeed. She lost a tiny bit of leg form at the

:09:26.:09:33.

end. The vault is marked out of 6.3. You get ten for execution. There

:09:34.:09:39.

will be a deduction for the hop and the band 's lead and that will come

:09:40.:09:48.

off the execution score. I am being pernickety, would you say that was

:09:49.:09:53.

off-line because it landed in that section? Oh, yes. It does not have a

:09:54.:09:59.

specific deduction, as long as it does not go outside the two far

:10:00.:10:03.

green lines, but they will have noted it was knocked down the

:10:04.:10:09.

middle. That is down a little bit on what she would have hoped for.

:10:10.:10:21.

Simone Biles, 19 years old. There is a possibility she could well score

:10:22.:10:24.

the perfect ten in the new scoring system. We will fill you in on that

:10:25.:10:31.

in a moment. But just enjoyed this power. Look at that height and

:10:32.:10:40.

weight for the twist? But she is a bit edgy, you can see that. The

:10:41.:10:47.

landing was uncharacteristic. A step forward, I think that means she is

:10:48.:10:51.

feeling the pressure. She is very excited. She already has a gold

:10:52.:10:59.

medal from the team final. Using that popular flick entry, but she

:11:00.:11:05.

gets huge height and to one half twists. But she has got so much

:11:06.:11:10.

power and energy it is hard to control especially when you are

:11:11.:11:16.

going for the Olympic title. But still a fantastic vault. She is so

:11:17.:11:23.

technically correct. She comes onto the platform with her arms locked by

:11:24.:11:29.

her ears and her shoulders open. The platform gives you quite a lot of

:11:30.:11:40.

lift, it is like a springboard. The way the competition runs, the top

:11:41.:11:49.

gymnasts are all here. That is an enormous start for Simon

:11:50.:12:06.

That is an enormous start for Simone Biles.

:12:07.:12:16.

she is looking to score over 15 with this. A very small gymnast, but very

:12:17.:12:26.

powerful. Using the Tsukahara with a double twist. A great way to start

:12:27.:12:36.

off her bid. She takes the piece of tape with her to show her where she

:12:37.:12:44.

wants to jump off on the board. It is a different approach. Sometimes

:12:45.:12:52.

the chalk gets marks and wipes away. That will be heavily deducted

:12:53.:12:55.

because her chest was down on landing. If you think about the ones

:12:56.:13:01.

we have seen before, they have had enough power to step backwards. It

:13:02.:13:10.

was a good line. It is and for such a small gymnast it is interesting to

:13:11.:13:15.

see that she is using the Tsukahara entry rather than the round of flick

:13:16.:13:16.

entry. Some tentative vaulting to start

:13:17.:13:46.

with. Mustafina, the gymnast we were talking about, the current Olympic

:13:47.:13:58.

all-round bronze medallist. A beautifully classic gymnast.

:13:59.:14:06.

The best landing we have seen yet. She is the gymnast with all the

:14:07.:14:15.

experience. This is the thing, how far do you go with the difficulty

:14:16.:14:20.

and how much execution do you try and achieve? With the new scoring

:14:21.:14:26.

system gymnasts can get extra marks with doing harder moves. Although

:14:27.:14:30.

she is executing it beautifully, it is not as difficult to stop the

:14:31.:14:37.

difficulty is down to Aly Raisman and Simone Biles, but the execution

:14:38.:14:41.

and landing is better than the other gymnasts. She has had a really clean

:14:42.:14:48.

start. She will score very well with that vault, even though the

:14:49.:14:55.

difficulty is 5.8. She knows she has not got as difficult routines as the

:14:56.:15:00.

Americans. What she has to do has to be extra clean. It must be a debate

:15:01.:15:06.

between the gymnasts and the coaches were you get your marks. It is

:15:07.:15:12.

always a debate. You have got to decide whether you go more difficult

:15:13.:15:16.

and take the risk, or to hold back and know you can execute it so well.

:15:17.:15:28.

Her compatriot is 17 years old. All-around gold at the Olympics. And

:15:29.:15:36.

a great competition qualification. Uses the double twist. She uses the

:15:37.:15:44.

split of the legs to start that twist.

:15:45.:15:49.

5.8 difficulty, same as the gymnast before, Mustafina. Yes, we saw

:15:50.:15:57.

Mustafina when she was younger do a more difficult fault, she got extra

:15:58.:16:02.

twists in Bert she got injured and since then, she has never used it.

:16:03.:16:05.

Seda Tutkhalyan has been impressive, she has been the most steady in the

:16:06.:16:10.

Russian team. But she got little deductions there, the judges will

:16:11.:16:17.

take marks for that. You can see her elbows bent on the top of the part

:16:18.:16:20.

form, they probably won't see the bent elbows but they will know it

:16:21.:16:26.

was not as high as the previous gymnast -- platform. She will lose a

:16:27.:16:33.

bit of height. But very well landed, the group on the vault are top

:16:34.:16:42.

qualifiers, the best in the world. 14.8664 Seda Tutkhalyan.

:16:43.:16:49.

Hannah Raisman focused on the bars, you can see the guards. The routine

:16:50.:16:59.

starts, your mind switches quickly cash?

:17:00.:17:01.

starts, your mind switches quickly Yes, a lot of the gymnasts use hand

:17:02.:17:08.

guard is, or to put bandages around their hands, Simone Biles is using

:17:09.:17:14.

hand guard 's. It protects them. Some love a lot of chalk, some like

:17:15.:17:18.

honey and chalk, some like sugar water. What about you? It was always

:17:19.:17:26.

chalk and water. You are allowed another gymnast to help you chalk up

:17:27.:17:31.

the bars, you get extra Walker -- warm up time to allow the change

:17:32.:17:40.

in the amount of chalk on the bars. Ellie Downie, let's see her on the

:17:41.:17:48.

floor. As you said in the build-up, she has had an up and down time at

:17:49.:17:54.

these Championships. Here we go, a super first tumble. 1.5 walk out

:17:55.:17:58.

into double Arabian, then the jump on the end. Very powerful gymnast

:17:59.:18:08.

indeed. Super hi double pike, Arabian, a little step. Her

:18:09.:18:21.

amplitude on the Leitz has improved so much, a good split there. --

:18:22.:18:35.

leap. Very clean, multiple twist, 2.5, meeting the floor beautifully.

:18:36.:18:44.

This has been a really well executed floor routine from Ellie Downie. The

:18:45.:18:50.

floor was a problem in qualification, she needs a big

:18:51.:18:55.

dismount... Here it comes... Super double pike! What a fantastic start

:18:56.:19:04.

to her Championships. Such an improved piece for Ellie Downie. The

:19:05.:19:13.

floor is very good. She scored 12.5 in qualification, so she is going to

:19:14.:19:17.

be well up on that. She qualified down in 20th, putting all of the

:19:18.:19:23.

ghosts to rest as far as tumbles are concerned? Yes, a very powerful

:19:24.:19:28.

start in her routine, 1.5 walk out into the double Arabian, straight

:19:29.:19:33.

into that jump, it gives her a good connection value, it builds up

:19:34.:19:36.

difficulty then come straight down the diagonal with a double pike

:19:37.:19:42.

Arabian, building difficulty ups right. She came to trouble here in

:19:43.:19:49.

qualifications, but sorted it, 2.5 twist, and then finally, with a

:19:50.:19:55.

double pike, she is such a powerful gymnast and it shows in her

:19:56.:19:58.

routines, with all of those difficult tumbles. That's a great

:19:59.:20:08.

start for Great Britain's Ellie Downie. Another gymnast who did not

:20:09.:20:13.

have much fun in qualification, Shang Chunsong qualified down in the

:20:14.:20:18.

20th, but she could be in with a shout, at times she has the

:20:19.:20:22.

execution. We have seen her on the scene for a while, but occasionally,

:20:23.:20:27.

she has a few problems with consistency. It will be interesting

:20:28.:20:32.

to see how she starts on this first piece of apparatus. The first sub

:20:33.:20:37.

sub series, well executed, straight into the two jumps, you need to show

:20:38.:20:42.

the judges these as a special requirement. Changing into full

:20:43.:20:54.

splits. Building up to another big connection, deflect one layout --

:20:55.:21:06.

the flecked one layout. And a solid front somersault into the jump. Each

:21:07.:21:11.

time they are connecting skills, they are getting bonuses, that is

:21:12.:21:19.

how they build up their difficulty. Very difficult to double spend...

:21:20.:21:24.

Performed absolutely beautifully -- double spin. The free walkover into

:21:25.:21:33.

the sheet jump, China are renowned for this piece of apparatus. The

:21:34.:21:35.

free cartwheel into another jump, it's

:21:36.:21:44.

interesting to see what the star value is for this routine. The last

:21:45.:21:49.

test, the big dismount, round off into triple turn, twist and a small

:21:50.:21:52.

hop on dismount. A great start to her Olympic Games.

:21:53.:21:58.

What a start indeed! Shang Chunsong. She will be back to find out her

:21:59.:22:06.

score shortly. And from Japan... A pirouette, letting her legs, part a

:22:07.:22:10.

little bit here. A very nice king, stooping out and a Flickr here. The

:22:11.:22:20.

judges deduct for those little bits -- Gienger. Stupas when the feed do

:22:21.:22:25.

not go on the bark you get a lot of marks for it. It has become very

:22:26.:22:27.

popular with the Jim -- with the gymnasts.

:22:28.:22:38.

Very happy, Japan did very well in the team competition. You can see

:22:39.:22:47.

the movement from the low bar to the high bar, a big wind up into the

:22:48.:22:54.

dismount, using the very popular... Back in full, two somersaults with a

:22:55.:23:05.

full twist. We saw in the all-round competition, she got a rib on her

:23:06.:23:09.

hands, where the friction gets too much. The top layer of skin bursts.

:23:10.:23:18.

Shang Chunsong scores 14.8 33. We spoke yesterday about where you

:23:19.:23:22.

start and how it affects where you are in the competition, the groups

:23:23.:23:24.

are in relation to where they qualified.

:23:25.:23:29.

I think for Shang Chunsong, she started with a shaky peace, she came

:23:30.:23:34.

in in the right frame of mind, it is not dwelling throughout the

:23:35.:23:36.

competition. To come in, nee let and get it at

:23:37.:23:41.

the way can help you? I think so, that was a very good beam routine,

:23:42.:23:45.

I'm surprised at how low it is. -- nail it.

:23:46.:23:55.

That was a very clean routine from Shang Chunsong. Elisabeth Seitz has

:23:56.:23:59.

qualified for the bars final, this is a great piece for her to start

:24:00.:24:05.

on. It is, it is a very dynamic bar routine. Straightaway, first skill

:24:06.:24:13.

up, a big connection bonus, and into the Gienger. Good height on these

:24:14.:24:18.

release and catchers. Another, straight down to the low bar.

:24:19.:24:32.

Keeping the flow going. The Shaposh, using the full term, back in full,

:24:33.:24:41.

and a clean landing. A very nice bar routine, a couple of pirouettes a

:24:42.:24:45.

bit late. But she has looked very good in this Championship, cutting

:24:46.:24:49.

her difficulty down on some pieces, but here, there's beautiful left on

:24:50.:24:55.

the bars, she uses it and flies from it, watch carefully. -- lift. She

:24:56.:25:01.

gets so much height she can straddle in and make a straddle catch over

:25:02.:25:11.

the bar, she instantly has two enormously different skills linked,

:25:12.:25:21.

and here two more. The stupid Tkachev and straight into the high

:25:22.:25:26.

bar again. It puts star value so high, linking these, and she had one

:25:27.:25:32.

of the highest in this routine -- the steeped Tkachev.

:25:33.:25:43.

Each country is allowed two gymnasts to compete in the top 24, it's a

:25:44.:25:49.

really interesting format. Gabby Douglas performed for the USA, and

:25:50.:25:53.

she did not get the chance to compete at this all-round final,

:25:54.:25:57.

although she was the third highest scorer and was in with a chance of

:25:58.:26:00.

an Olympic medal. We will continue that debate after Carlotta Ferlito

:26:01.:26:02.

on the floor. This is her piece... A superhigh

:26:03.:26:26.

leap... Really performing the floor... Full-twisting, double back

:26:27.:26:29.

to start. Gymnasts choose their own music to

:26:30.:26:44.

suit their personality, and then the routine has to reflect the music.

:26:45.:26:54.

Leeds, jumps, as well as tumbles, giving the difficulty. -- leaps.

:26:55.:27:07.

Selling the floor routine so well. Hands, face, a big tumble to finish,

:27:08.:27:44.

a lovely landing. A really well-balanced floor routine. And she

:27:45.:27:52.

absolutely loves to perform on the floor, she is very... She works to

:27:53.:28:02.

the crowd. 15 point 233 four Elisabeth Seitz, the first 15 we've

:28:03.:28:09.

had on the bars. It really makes a difference, you can see the

:28:10.:28:13.

difference in the fall double back, and a great landing -- 15.233. She

:28:14.:28:27.

really gets involved, you can see in her face.

:28:28.:28:30.

Such a powerful gymnast, who lost to showcase what she can do. Cleanly

:28:31.:28:37.

executed spin, and a final tumble with the double back. She just held

:28:38.:28:42.

it at the end. We could tell you that while

:28:43.:28:50.

Carlotta Ferlito was doing the floor routine, Shang Chunsong has put in

:28:51.:28:58.

an enquiry on her beam score, that was 14.833, we will see what happens

:28:59.:29:04.

there. You can only protest the difficulty score, they would have

:29:05.:29:10.

expected difficulty of 6.2 or 6.3, if it is 6.1, they will want to know

:29:11.:29:17.

what they did not count. We will have to wait until not only Carlotta

:29:18.:29:26.

Ferlito score's is in, it is in. Also that enquiry, before everyone

:29:27.:29:32.

can move on. As it stands at the moment... Simone Biles and Hannah

:29:33.:29:37.

Raisman with Rebeca Andrade from Brazil in third. Mustafina is in

:29:38.:29:45.

fiveth. Ahead of her team-mates -- fifth. We will get confirmation as

:29:46.:29:53.

soon as Shang Chunsong's score is in. Starting with the bolt, they are

:29:54.:30:01.

the best, that first group, that is a more assured high peace as long as

:30:02.:30:06.

you land on your feet -- vault. Ellie Downie will be going over to

:30:07.:30:10.

the vault now, we know that she has a great pedigree as far as that is

:30:11.:30:18.

concerned, the European silver medallist.

:30:19.:30:20.

It's the chance for her to make a real impact in the first half of

:30:21.:30:24.

this competition. And of course, the gymnasts compete, the best start on

:30:25.:30:33.

vault, the next bars, beam, floor, and because Ellie Downie had a big

:30:34.:30:37.

fall, she was not able to finish at the floor routine in provocation and

:30:38.:30:42.

she is in the last group meaning she starts on the floor, then does

:30:43.:30:46.

vault, great, but has to finish on the beam, she has two tricky pieces

:30:47.:30:50.

to do at the end. But saying she had that problem, she

:30:51.:30:55.

had to go out the arena as far as floor is concerned, but she came and

:30:56.:30:59.

did the vault terrifically. She showed her metal that day.

:31:00.:31:07.

It cannot be easy ECB is waiting for all of the gymnasts. Beth, when you

:31:08.:31:14.

are waiting and something like this happens, it must throw a spanner in

:31:15.:31:18.

the works. You just want to get on with the competition. Most of the

:31:19.:31:27.

gymnasts competing here today are experienced and they will have done

:31:28.:31:32.

major championships before. They are used to having to wait around. Maybe

:31:33.:31:38.

their coaches in training will do a bar routine and make them wait ten

:31:39.:31:42.

or 15 minutes before they are allowed to do the next routine, so

:31:43.:31:47.

they can practice for situations like this where there is a hold-up

:31:48.:31:52.

in the competition. It is a thing you learn early on as a gymnast.

:31:53.:31:58.

Regional competitions are very often not very smooth. It is something you

:31:59.:32:03.

grow up with really. Well, they are moving on and they are not going to

:32:04.:32:07.

wait. I do not know what is happening with the inquiry. We can

:32:08.:32:15.

see it says on the screen that the inquiry was rejected and she will

:32:16.:32:19.

remain with a score. We can move on with the competition. A chance to

:32:20.:32:25.

see Ellie Downie's routine whilst the gymnasts are warming up. How

:32:26.:32:33.

difficulty is through adding these moves. It is a huge double Arabian.

:32:34.:32:41.

Because those two moves are in one, they get a bonus as well as their

:32:42.:32:48.

own value. Actually, these are the same first two tumbles that you used

:32:49.:32:55.

to do. They are indeed. When you first build them up they are very

:32:56.:33:00.

difficult to do back-to-back. But LE is such a powerful gymnast and her

:33:01.:33:05.

spatial awareness is fantastic and she knows how much flotation to

:33:06.:33:10.

give. In the first time that we saw this routine we could see how much

:33:11.:33:17.

she had improved as well. It is the dance area that she has had to work

:33:18.:33:21.

so hard on. She is a very athletic gymnast. She is great at tumbling

:33:22.:33:28.

and voting, but the dance has not been so easy. She is almost better

:33:29.:33:35.

on those two pieces, where her sister Becky is better on the bars

:33:36.:33:41.

and the beam, the complete opposite. But this was a lovely start. She had

:33:42.:33:48.

a problem in qualification and she scored almost two is more this time

:33:49.:33:57.

than in qualification. 14.3, the highest scorer so far on the floor.

:33:58.:34:06.

Expect Giulia Steingruber to rise as the competition progresses. If you

:34:07.:34:45.

have not faltered, that can be a big scoring peace. You can see the first

:34:46.:34:51.

five out of the first six have all been on vault. It is a bar

:34:52.:34:58.

specialist that has crept into the top six for now. Shang Chunsong had

:34:59.:35:05.

a couple of problems in qualification, so that is why she

:35:06.:35:10.

started over on the beam. You cannot rule anyone out until they have been

:35:11.:35:16.

over to vault. Giulia Steingruber started on the beam. I would guess

:35:17.:35:20.

that although we did not see the routine that she probably fell. Over

:35:21.:35:28.

four pieces only it will be very difficult for her to push herself up

:35:29.:35:35.

into the top three. That top group go to the buyers and the second

:35:36.:35:40.

group go to the beam. The third group go to the floor and the fourth

:35:41.:35:48.

group go to the vault. We were talking earlier on about the fact

:35:49.:35:53.

there are 316-year-olds, Ellie Downie is 17. You have to build up

:35:54.:35:58.

an incredible armoury of moves at such a young age. What is the

:35:59.:36:01.

process of that from a coach's point of view? Most of these gymnasts will

:36:02.:36:07.

have started quite young and will have quite the big repertoire by the

:36:08.:36:12.

time they are 11 or 12. They will not have everything, but they will

:36:13.:36:17.

have all the basics. The things that you are going to build on. It is

:36:18.:36:24.

important by the age of 11 or 12 to have all the foundations set and

:36:25.:36:29.

then you can add the moves on. A lot of the older gymnasts who we saw at

:36:30.:36:35.

16, although they have improved a little bit, they do not improve

:36:36.:36:40.

massively after that. With the younger gymnasts they can do a lot

:36:41.:36:45.

more numbers within the training. As soon as you get older and your body

:36:46.:36:49.

takes longer to recover, you have to be more clever with your training.

:36:50.:36:57.

For example Jade Barboza had a bit of time out with injury and she has

:36:58.:37:00.

come back, but she will have to be a lot more clever than her team-mate

:37:01.:37:08.

in the build-up to this competition. Without giving your age away too

:37:09.:37:13.

much, death, how old were you when you felt you were at your peak? That

:37:14.:37:19.

is difficult because I went through different phases. But after Beijing,

:37:20.:37:25.

leading up to London, between myself and Amanda we had to be a lot more

:37:26.:37:31.

clever with how I'd train. I could not do the same things as the

:37:32.:37:39.

athlete training alongside me. This is incredibly important. She got a

:37:40.:37:53.

silver at the Euros. A perfect landing! I am absolutely thrilled

:37:54.:38:00.

for her. You can see the smile on her face. She has been training with

:38:01.:38:06.

the two and a half quite a lot, but not quite ready to perform it on

:38:07.:38:16.

this big stage. A super style. Legs locked together. Not a flicker.

:38:17.:38:22.

Great stuff. Very little deductions on that vault. The length, the

:38:23.:38:28.

height, everything is there. It is a 5.8 difficulty. We saw Aliya

:38:29.:38:41.

Mustafina do a 5.8 and all those top athletes in the mix. Ellie has a

:38:42.:38:53.

very good chance halfway round. Aly Raisman is the first gymnast on the

:38:54.:39:02.

buyers in this top group. She is not renowned for her buyer work, but

:39:03.:39:05.

that was a lovely handstand to start.

:39:06.:39:17.

You have to show forward and regular grip. That pirouette was a little

:39:18.:39:28.

bit late. You need to finish in the handstand. It is a workmanlike

:39:29.:39:36.

performance. Very nice double front this night. A bit off-line. It is

:39:37.:39:42.

not a great piece for Aly Raisman, but she has made it decent and that

:39:43.:39:49.

is the trick. Yes, and we know it was her nemesis in 2012 when she was

:39:50.:39:57.

going for an all-round medal. She came a cropper, but no problems

:39:58.:40:02.

today. It was a fighting routine and it will score a bit lower than in

:40:03.:40:08.

qualification. Not 100% straight legs. Down to the low bar and

:40:09.:40:22.

straight into the full-time. Slightly too late to be able to get

:40:23.:40:30.

her feet in, but a great dismount. Using her experience from the floor

:40:31.:40:33.

to be able to land that double front. That is the fifth highest

:40:34.:40:47.

vault score that we have seen. A former world and European

:40:48.:41:02.

all-round champion. Now 25 years old.

:41:03.:41:13.

Good, but slightly scrappy around the legs. We saw from Elie before

:41:14.:41:21.

have cleanly you can execute that. But that is a good start to her

:41:22.:41:29.

competition. That is a little bit down. These scores are lower than

:41:30.:41:37.

she would want. It leaves the door is open for a silver and a bronze.

:41:38.:41:44.

Simone Biles. This is not her strongest piece of apparatus, even

:41:45.:41:47.

though it will be mightily impressive. Here she goes, the

:41:48.:41:55.

leaders so far. Stars with a forward element, that is so difficult. But

:41:56.:42:04.

she did not go straight into the pirouette, but nice and tidy

:42:05.:42:08.

imperial wet. She is a bit leggy at times. With everything she works

:42:09.:42:19.

with great energy. Not such a difficult routine, but not a lot of

:42:20.:42:25.

deductions, especially when you land like that. Keep your eye on the

:42:26.:42:31.

execution score. You are loving every moment of that. I was, we know

:42:32.:42:37.

it is not her strongest piece, but even though it is not her strongest,

:42:38.:42:42.

she still scored a 15 in qualification. Her legs go slightly

:42:43.:42:49.

apart, but can the judges see that from the side. Even though it is not

:42:50.:42:55.

the most difficult, every skill she performs has got huge energy and it

:42:56.:43:07.

is very cleanly executed. Her legs are locked together throughout. And

:43:08.:43:15.

then the full dismount and there is nothing to take off on that

:43:16.:43:25.

dismount. Look at that landing. She is keeping her eye on the execution

:43:26.:43:34.

score, that is for sure. Vanessa Ferrari, down on Ellie Downie's

:43:35.:43:39.

score from Great Britain. It is always difficult when you follow

:43:40.:43:43.

somebody who is such a good vaulter. A direct comparison is difficult. At

:43:44.:43:53.

the moment Ellie Downie is just 0.4 behind Aly Raisman. Not breaking the

:43:54.:44:07.

15? It is not, but Aly Raisman's score was slightly down. It is a

:44:08.:44:11.

different set of judges to those in qualification. But it is the same

:44:12.:44:17.

judges as they come to each apparatus, so it will be consistent

:44:18.:44:26.

throughout the competition. Aliya Mustafina will go after Wang Yan.

:44:27.:44:37.

She is looking to improve. I think she had a fall in qualification on

:44:38.:44:41.

this piece, so she will be looking to sort that out.

:44:42.:44:59.

This is what the Chinese are renowned for, all the towns, into

:45:00.:45:07.

the Jager salto. Just slightly bent arms when she is catching. Such a

:45:08.:45:14.

small gymnasts to get from the low bike to the Haifa. Through an

:45:15.:45:24.

beautiful fashion. She qualified with the sixth highest all-round

:45:25.:45:27.

scorer with a full on that apparatus. In with a real chance.

:45:28.:45:32.

Now it is over to her compatriot from China. Shang Chunsong.

:45:33.:45:42.

She had a strong start on the bean, taking that graze over to the floor

:45:43.:45:53.

now. She starts with two very exciting tumbles. Carefully, see if

:45:54.:46:01.

you can count the twist... Around, off the backflip, 3.5, into the

:46:02.:46:04.

punch front, such a clean landing. A very different style, this has

:46:05.:46:22.

been very impressive, the 1.5 comedy walk out into the triple twist, and

:46:23.:46:34.

the punch front again. Just missing five spends, she made 4.5. -- spins.

:46:35.:46:49.

It's a different style, this. 2.5, front half, the first step on

:46:50.:46:56.

landing. A very supple gymnast, you can see her head goes back and she

:46:57.:47:03.

can easily hit the splits. She has not done a double somersault, she

:47:04.:47:08.

has to do at least one of those in the routine. Here it comes, a double

:47:09.:47:20.

pike without problem. Well, very efficient, very good

:47:21.:47:25.

tumbles. For me, the style was not something I enjoyed as much as some,

:47:26.:47:29.

but there is only a little bit that can be taken off because of that.

:47:30.:47:42.

Shang Chunsong waits for her score. Aliya Mustafina on the bars now.

:47:43.:47:48.

Prepare to be impressed. The current Olympic champion, on the bars. She

:47:49.:47:58.

scored 15.833 in qualification. But, this is a difficult and risky

:47:59.:48:07.

routine... A clean start with a stoop, straight into the high bar,

:48:08.:48:13.

low bar, connected back-up, that is where she builds difficulty, linking

:48:14.:48:18.

four elements in a row, the still path into the Yeager, cleanly

:48:19.:48:25.

caught. A final dismount to go, into the 1.5. -- Jager. We will take

:48:26.:48:35.

that! Aliya Mustafina in with a shout now. She looks on fire

:48:36.:48:40.

tonight, she really does, she was fairly ropey in the qualification,

:48:41.:48:44.

to be honest. The second night of the team final is much better and

:48:45.:48:49.

she looks like she is building. That routine is so clever because it is

:48:50.:48:54.

so short. Enough to put pressure on Simone Biles? We will have to wait

:48:55.:49:02.

and see. She has a very different style, grace and elegance, this will

:49:03.:49:08.

go well into the 15s. It is so high there. She sees everything cleanly.

:49:09.:49:13.

You know you only have to count the eight most difficult moves, she

:49:14.:49:18.

probably only does about ten. But they are ten very hard moves, they

:49:19.:49:24.

easily add up the difficulty. Fabulous control on her leg. Clever,

:49:25.:49:29.

you could see her looking over her shoulder and judging exactly where

:49:30.:49:34.

the floor was. Giving away as little as possible on those landings. That

:49:35.:49:36.

is where they will be won and lost. Prowling and waiting... Onto the

:49:37.:49:56.

beam next, for Mustafina. That is the piece where you win or lose, I

:49:57.:50:02.

know as much as anybody that she can be awful or brilliant on the beam,

:50:03.:50:06.

we've seen both in this Championship so far. Across men's and women's

:50:07.:50:11.

gymnastics, it seems the beam is the biggest leveller? It is, it's

:50:12.:50:16.

probably the piece of apparatus with the least margin for error. You only

:50:17.:50:21.

have to be a tiny fraction off, and that is a problem. Just to let you

:50:22.:50:30.

know what is happening in the arena, Jade Barbosa is on the floor, and

:50:31.:50:35.

has taken an injury. Things have just stopped for a moment. She is

:50:36.:50:41.

fine, she is all right. She is being attended to. If you can hear a lot

:50:42.:50:44.

of noise, that's what is going on. We just saw one of the pirouettes

:50:45.:50:50.

from Mustafina, her trademark is that she finishes her pirouette

:50:51.:50:56.

right on top of the bar. 15 six execs for Mustafina, down on her

:50:57.:51:03.

qualification score. We talked about the judges being different, are you

:51:04.:51:09.

surprised it was that low? -- 15.666. I thought it would be more

:51:10.:51:13.

like 15.8, I'm surprised it is down in the 60s. A 6.5 difficulty in

:51:14.:51:23.

qualification... Starting on the high bar, that was a really lovely

:51:24.:51:32.

Tkachev, it almost came to a standstill on the low bar, that was

:51:33.:51:39.

lovely, default turning Pak salto, out of trouble, gymnasts do that

:51:40.:51:45.

half turn in the middle of the routine. Packing in the difficulty,

:51:46.:51:52.

a term... There is the forward element. A big double front with a

:51:53.:51:56.

good landing. She really packed everything in there. Really fighting

:51:57.:52:03.

for the top five. The Russian gymnasts do very well in the team

:52:04.:52:07.

competition. They are obviously on a high. The historic silver. Here, you

:52:08.:52:17.

can see a big, high releasing catch. But just caught very close, she knew

:52:18.:52:22.

that to be able to push away, and again on the Pak salto, having to

:52:23.:52:26.

fight throughout the routine. Here you can see the full twist, and how

:52:27.:52:32.

out of line she is. But with her experience she can pull it back,

:52:33.:52:35.

spotting the bar all the way through. The Shaposh. That last

:52:36.:52:44.

skill committee have to count in every routine. -- that last skill,

:52:45.:52:53.

you have to count in every routine. She knows. A gymnast who really

:52:54.:53:01.

seems to enjoy herself in performance, we've seen over the

:53:02.:53:05.

years some of the Russians are very serious, they come in and you wonder

:53:06.:53:08.

how much they are enjoying themselves. But, she has this bark.

:53:09.:53:15.

A much more effervescent character, isn't she? Some look like they have

:53:16.:53:19.

the weight of the world on their shoulders, but I think that she is

:53:20.:53:23.

quite good for the team, she has lightened that a little. That was

:53:24.:53:28.

not a great bar routine, as she knows, you can see her saying, but

:53:29.:53:33.

it's, oh well, I fought through that. A great attitude. She is

:53:34.:53:41.

rewarded with that score. Yes, in competition you need those training

:53:42.:53:45.

routines, you need to go from a to B, but she still has 15.0 33. Onto

:53:46.:53:55.

the third highest qualifier... Rebeca Andrade, she had a leg injury

:53:56.:53:59.

last year, but she's back to competition. She only entered

:54:00.:54:05.

competition in March. So quite a comeback. 14.933 in qualification,

:54:06.:54:17.

can she creep into the 15 pro-Mac? She has been fantastic as a team

:54:18.:54:28.

member for Brazil. -- 15s. That was a nice Tkachev into the low bar. She

:54:29.:54:33.

was just on her fingertips there. The coaches allowed to stand in for

:54:34.:54:39.

big release elements. A very nice Jager, with somersault height. A

:54:40.:54:47.

clean half term. The full pirouette must be included in the big

:54:48.:54:53.

dismount, that was great. She had legs when though, that will lose her

:54:54.:54:58.

quite a bit. Already the chase is on for the silver and bronze medal.

:54:59.:55:07.

Disappointed, probably. She saw her team-mate had to stop on the floor,

:55:08.:55:12.

I saw her looking carefully. Here, you can see the stalled full turn,

:55:13.:55:18.

she had to use the tuck. Not only will she lose for no connection but

:55:19.:55:23.

she also loses for bent legs, but she continues the rest of the

:55:24.:55:30.

routine, the Tkachev, straight back into the pak. A clean body-line,

:55:31.:55:36.

coming in close, she pushes away. The Sharapova, she literally had it

:55:37.:55:40.

by her fingertips on that right hands -- Shaposh. A big and high

:55:41.:55:46.

front somersault, catching at arm's-length. Here, the toe on

:55:47.:55:54.

full-time. To finish the routine into the dismount. Default twisting

:55:55.:56:03.

double back. -- the twisting double back. She will be slightly

:56:04.:56:07.

disappointed with that routine, knowing that she has had to count

:56:08.:56:18.

the tax legs. -- tucked. Two more pieces, she was in third. Rebeca

:56:19.:56:25.

Andrade going into this piece. The score will go down a bit but not

:56:26.:56:33.

massively. That drops her into fifth, as it stands at the moment.

:56:34.:56:39.

Simone Biles, who is sitting in second place after Mustafina's bars.

:56:40.:56:47.

Well, that was not a position she expected to find herself in, I don't

:56:48.:56:57.

think. It will be interesting. Tutkhalyan in third, Ellie Downie in

:56:58.:57:01.

seventh, but it's very close between Simone Biles and Mustafina. Just 0.3

:57:02.:57:15.

in it. A step to the side. This is the thing. It is youth versus

:57:16.:57:20.

experience in this competition. This is Simone Biles's first Olympic

:57:21.:57:25.

Games, too young to compete in London. There is not much that

:57:26.:57:30.

Mustafina hasn't seen as far as international Jim competitions are

:57:31.:57:33.

concerned. She was the most decorated gymnast in 2012 --

:57:34.:57:39.

gymnastic competitions. Despite not being at her best, she won more

:57:40.:57:46.

medals than anyone else. On the floor for the Netherlands... Lieke

:57:47.:57:53.

Wevers. You were hoping that we would see a Netherlands gymnast on

:57:54.:57:58.

the floor? Yes, they offer such a different style. Her twin sister is

:57:59.:58:03.

also in the team but not competing today. The choreography for these

:58:04.:58:12.

gymnasts is fantastic, it is more theatrical, they tell a story and

:58:13.:58:18.

get emotionally involved throughout. They use a lot of the dance and

:58:19.:58:31.

spins. Very cleanly. Not the hardest of tumbles, a double tuck to start,

:58:32.:58:36.

but she builds up her difficulty, using all the leaps and jumps. Here

:58:37.:58:43.

is one of those leaps, she hit the splits each time. Just enjoy this

:58:44.:58:54.

choreography. Just falls out slightly at the end of the spin.

:58:55.:59:01.

Here goes for the next tumble... The 2.5 twist. So, you have to do eight

:59:02.:59:18.

counting elements. And, a maximum of five acrobatic elements, but you can

:59:19.:59:21.

do as many as you would like over the jumps and leaps. This is why you

:59:22.:59:30.

only see two acrobatic elements from the Dutch gymnast. That was very

:59:31.:59:36.

beautiful, mesmerising. Absolutely, it's another style of gymnastics,

:59:37.:59:42.

she was not so clean on her spins today, with the acrobatics, if you

:59:43.:59:46.

choose to spend, you had to finish completely. She fell out of a

:59:47.:59:51.

couple. -- spin. When you see a routine, it makes you want an extra

:59:52.:59:56.

score for artistry, you have the difficulty and are packing it in.

:59:57.:00:01.

But really, there should be an extra mark for flair? It's gone very quiet

:00:02.:00:07.

now... There are marks for artistry but they are quite prescribed. In a

:00:08.:00:14.

way, Simone Biles, it is not the same type of routine as that, but in

:00:15.:00:20.

her own weight she creates artistry. It is quite difficult but I know

:00:21.:00:25.

what you mean, -- in her way. You felt it came from the heart, not

:00:26.:00:27.

just from rote learning. If she could also up the tumble is a

:00:28.:00:39.

bit, she could be really competitive. She is coached by her

:00:40.:00:51.

dad as well as her sister. They are all part of the team from the

:00:52.:00:55.

Netherlands. They never stopped training, even when they go home. Do

:00:56.:01:02.

some press ups. It must be difficult if you have had a bad day in the gym

:01:03.:01:06.

and you get in the car going back and your dad is still going, this

:01:07.:01:10.

was not quite right, or when you get home and they still go on about it.

:01:11.:01:15.

They must set some boundaries as soon as they step outside the door.

:01:16.:01:21.

Your gymnastics is a family affair. Is this the first competition they

:01:22.:01:28.

had not been to? They were debating flying out here, but they say it is

:01:29.:01:32.

the first time since the Sydney Olympics they will be able to sit

:01:33.:01:36.

and watch it without feeling sick and also watch other sports. When

:01:37.:01:41.

you are watching your son or daughter compete you do not get much

:01:42.:01:47.

time to do anything else. They will be listening to you now, feeling

:01:48.:01:55.

very proud. Hello to them now. When all the judges are set and ready we

:01:56.:02:01.

can march on. Simone Biles leads them round to their third piece of

:02:02.:02:07.

apparatus. The top group now go to the beam. This is where the tension

:02:08.:02:18.

really merits. Whilst they are marching and warming up, let's watch

:02:19.:02:23.

Elizabeth Black. The Canadian team are disappointed not to have made

:02:24.:02:27.

the team final. She starts with a very difficult double spin.

:02:28.:02:37.

A good height, front somersault. She has got some very complex skills on

:02:38.:02:41.

the beam. A backflip. Nice rhythm. That was the difficult for twisting

:02:42.:03:06.

back somersault and it was well performed. She travelled backwards,

:03:07.:03:08.

but not a flick of a wobble. Another front somersault into a jump

:03:09.:03:26.

right at the end of the routine, packing the whole length of the

:03:27.:03:28.

beam. This is the dismount. She will be very pleased with that

:03:29.:03:42.

performance. The Commonwealth beam champion. We will bring you the

:03:43.:03:49.

standings of how things look and it is not what people are expecting.

:03:50.:03:55.

Aliya Mustafina is ahead of Simone Biles. Aly Raisman drops to four.

:03:56.:04:03.

Shang Chunsong is sixth. Ellie Downie has moved up from 11

:04:04.:04:21.

into seven. That is so difficult. She came down to the low bar and got

:04:22.:04:27.

her feet immediately onto the bar. Many gymnasts tried that and it is

:04:28.:04:33.

frustrating. It is such a difficult combination to master. Lots of

:04:34.:04:38.

gymnasts will be flying off left, right and centre trying that

:04:39.:04:49.

combination. But she brought this dismount back. She is landing blind.

:04:50.:04:55.

Then you go to a different style of gymnastics with Simone Biles. A big

:04:56.:05:01.

Tkachev, but she has not got the connections that Aliya Mustafina

:05:02.:05:06.

had. That is why her score is nearly one marked lower than Aliya

:05:07.:05:11.

Mustafina. But she will catch her up on the floor. But what she does she

:05:12.:05:18.

executes very well. And Tkachev on beam as well. If she comes off and

:05:19.:05:27.

Aliya Mustafina stays on, it will be interesting. This is Ellie Downie's.

:05:28.:05:38.

Landing that every gymnast dreams. Aliya Mustafina has had her big

:05:39.:05:43.

hitting piece. She is much better on bars than any of the American girls.

:05:44.:05:50.

That was a great landing. Straight down the line, everything, so on

:05:51.:05:55.

song. She has always had a great feel for vault. She goes another

:05:56.:06:01.

metre higher than anyone else in the gym. Ellie's group moved over to the

:06:02.:06:15.

buyers. Simone Biles is looking as relaxed as possible. Aly Raisman is

:06:16.:06:20.

getting a feel of the beam in her three minutes warm up which is

:06:21.:06:27.

coming to an end now. As soon as she dismounts and Simone Biles will get

:06:28.:06:35.

set. Somehow, if she manages to achieve the most mind blowing

:06:36.:06:40.

acrobatics on something that is no wider than the

:06:41.:06:53.

length of a small track. You will do this routine thousands and thousands

:06:54.:07:04.

of times, but some skills can take a long time. This looks a lot easier

:07:05.:07:11.

than it actually is. Very difficult, but you have to include a spin. When

:07:12.:07:18.

you include it, you do not have to do another one. Her chest was a bit

:07:19.:07:31.

low fare. Simone Biles, not many times do people talk about her

:07:32.:07:34.

determination, but she has got a lot. Not chancing anything there.

:07:35.:07:45.

Lovely tuck in the tuck front somersault. It is the pace and the

:07:46.:07:51.

rhythm to this routine that is so impressive. She manages to master

:07:52.:08:01.

the two leaps and the back somersault.

:08:02.:08:09.

All the elements are so fast. She does not pause as if she is on the

:08:10.:08:18.

beam. The all important this night. It is usually perfect. It is today.

:08:19.:08:23.

Well done Simone Biles, you might not be used to being second. That is

:08:24.:08:31.

the question, how long will she be second for? Not long is the answer.

:08:32.:08:38.

A smile of quiet relief. You cannot see them on screen, but her American

:08:39.:08:44.

team-mate I sat in the audience and I can see them shouting down to her

:08:45.:08:48.

and encouraging had the whole time. They will have trained together for

:08:49.:08:52.

quite a long time leading up to the championships and they have been

:08:53.:08:56.

through numerous Olympic trials and they know each other very well. That

:08:57.:09:01.

support can be quite helpful when you are feeling the pressure. Shang

:09:02.:09:07.

Chunsong is in sixth going into this rotation. It is her penultimate

:09:08.:09:11.

piece of apparatus, the vault. Not the strongest of vaults, but

:09:12.:09:29.

very well executed. It is very an usual for a gymnast at this level

:09:30.:09:33.

not to do a more difficult vault than that. She hardly seems to get

:09:34.:09:40.

any power off the top. She does a good round off, nothing technically

:09:41.:09:46.

wrong with it. When she hits her elbows collapse, it is OK. But

:09:47.:09:53.

considering we have just seen her do a three and a half tuck front on the

:09:54.:10:00.

floor, that is surprising. She almost runs faster on the floor than

:10:01.:10:11.

on the vault. Absolutely. This is the piece that can make or break the

:10:12.:10:18.

all-around. It is usually when the falls start to occur in the top

:10:19.:10:23.

group. She will be pleased to have got that routine done. She is such a

:10:24.:10:30.

powerful gymnast you would not even know she is on something that is ten

:10:31.:10:37.

centimetres wide. The free walkover, building up her difficulty all the

:10:38.:10:45.

time. And the big dismount. There is not a lot more to say about it, just

:10:46.:10:48.

unbelievable. She looked relieved. She was in eighth going into this

:10:49.:11:11.

rotation. Ellie Black has got very unusual

:11:12.:11:27.

combinations on tumbling. We are used to seeing one on the half

:11:28.:11:38.

twists and walk out. Two and half twists, immediately in two double

:11:39.:11:42.

tuck. That is so difficult and original.

:11:43.:11:57.

Very often another difficult series. A little stutter on landing.

:11:58.:12:28.

For twisting France in two double pike. Super difficulty. Really good

:12:29.:12:41.

landings, but the artistry is a little bit lacking. Having seen some

:12:42.:12:47.

really artistic floors, you can see why the judges don't quite score

:12:48.:12:52.

that so high. Simone Biles goes into the lead. She has got nails like you

:12:53.:13:05.

have, Beth. It looks like she has got patriotically nails. The one

:13:06.:13:12.

thing I love about her is she shows off her personality and character

:13:13.:13:15.

and she is very active on social media and it has been entertaining

:13:16.:13:20.

leading up to these championships watching her and her team-mates put

:13:21.:13:26.

it up funny videos, taking the Mickey out of each other, so they

:13:27.:13:33.

have had a good time. This is Ellie Black, very powerful. Such an

:13:34.:13:39.

unusual combination and such powerful tumbling. In the final

:13:40.:13:45.

tumble it is the full twist walk out and using the double pike. Very

:13:46.:13:58.

difficult to use. Most people just use the double pike, but to add that

:13:59.:13:59.

walk out as well. Giulia Steingruber, a gymnast we

:14:00.:14:10.

thought would make more of an impact.

:14:11.:14:21.

She does not look as happy as we have seen her earlier this year. No,

:14:22.:14:29.

we did not see her floor routine, but it is usually excellent. Giulia

:14:30.:14:41.

Steingruber is in the vault final, so you will be able to see her

:14:42.:14:49.

again. A nice straight body with one and a half twists. One of the most

:14:50.:14:55.

difficult vaults you will see from the girls.

:14:56.:15:05.

She is renowned for her vaulting, that is what she has made her name

:15:06.:15:11.

doing, and then she became a very good floor worker as well. Has been

:15:12.:15:18.

the top gymnast in Europe this season.

:15:19.:15:29.

It is down on what she qualified with. Simone Biles trying to relax

:15:30.:15:36.

as much as possible before her last piece of apparatus.

:15:37.:15:44.

Then she will take her second gold of this Championships. So, Aliya

:15:45.:15:52.

Mustafina, the current European champion. A former world champion.

:15:53.:16:03.

This is a key piece for a medal. She is a really classically trained

:16:04.:16:10.

gymnast, her toes are always beautifully pointed. A wonderful

:16:11.:16:15.

double spin to start. That counts as one of her three... Johns or leaps,

:16:16.:16:22.

circling the arms and extra time, not allowing herself to wobble --

:16:23.:16:33.

jumps. Changing leg calf, a half turn into the half turning Flip. She

:16:34.:16:41.

linked those two elements in her last, she leaves herself under

:16:42.:16:48.

pressure to do those last free walkovers, she has not joined to the

:16:49.:16:54.

second. A backflip. Is she going to have another try at getting two

:16:55.:16:57.

acrobatic moves together or will she just allow herself to have the 0.5

:16:58.:17:04.

down on difficulty? There is the change, each gymnast has two include

:17:05.:17:11.

an acrobatic series and if they don't, it is not .5 off their

:17:12.:17:15.

starting score, so far they have not. Building up to be dismount, a

:17:16.:17:21.

nice double tuck. That will be a disappointing score

:17:22.:17:25.

for Aliya Mustafina. You were talking about making that decision

:17:26.:17:28.

up their committee would have thought with her experience she

:17:29.:17:32.

would have done that? Yes, we saw the same problem in qualification,

:17:33.:17:38.

you have to make that decision, do I try again and

:17:39.:17:42.

and then fall off? It's a difficult decision, she gave the judge is not

:17:43.:17:53.

.5, the rest of the routine was cleanly executed but she is already

:17:54.:17:58.

on the back foot with that. Chris, what do you think happened? Most

:17:59.:18:02.

gymnasts have an acrobatic series like a backflip or a layout

:18:03.:18:06.

somersault they do automatically. She does not like to use that, she

:18:07.:18:10.

tries to link two moves going forward. If you wobble on the first

:18:11.:18:14.

committee can't do the second which is what happened to her. -- if you

:18:15.:18:21.

wobble on the first, you can't do the second. Carlotta Ferlito on the

:18:22.:18:29.

bars. She was 21st in the all round in London. 21 years old. From Italy.

:18:30.:18:49.

Straight into a shoot down, a nice handstand, using the full term, up

:18:50.:18:54.

to the high bar, expect a release and catch, just stepping in.

:18:55.:19:04.

Forward, making sure she gets her front grip as a special requirement.

:19:05.:19:09.

A huge Jager, a half term bringing the back way. Doing the dismount and

:19:10.:19:19.

a full turn. A good dismount? Very good, not the hardest routine we've

:19:20.:19:24.

seen that cleanly executed Iraq. She has made the decision to cut back

:19:25.:19:29.

under Corti but perform well -- cleanly executed it. That was one

:19:30.:19:36.

team who did not qualify for the team final, for the first time in a

:19:37.:19:42.

long time, Vanessa Ferrari is their big star, she qualified as the last

:19:43.:19:50.

person in the top 24. I don't know whether the operation... When they

:19:51.:19:53.

arrived, whether they have had injuries, but it was a nice routine

:19:54.:20:01.

but nothing exceptional. Oh dear. Mustafina drops way off pace with

:20:02.:20:07.

that score. The door opens for her team-mate...

:20:08.:20:20.

Seda Tutkhalyan. Indeed, Seda Tutkhalyan can also be in and out on

:20:21.:20:24.

being, she starts with a difficult round of straight somersault. It is

:20:25.:20:30.

a bit like a warm up, because later she does the round of full twists.

:20:31.:20:34.

Good height on her leaps, and good control on her landings. Here we see

:20:35.:20:43.

the round off, fall twist, and if she lands it, which she has, that is

:20:44.:20:47.

a very difficult element, gaining lots of marks. Smooth, into the free

:20:48.:20:54.

walkovers. Two jumps that have to be linked.

:20:55.:21:05.

The switch lead leap, one forward, swings back and touches the head, I

:21:06.:21:14.

think the judges may feel it did not quite touch her head but she did not

:21:15.:21:18.

have a wobble either. Confident, smooth along the beam. Now will she

:21:19.:21:28.

go for the full-twisting double? On dismount? Or play safe? Safe, round

:21:29.:21:33.

off double Pike, and she sits down on it. Goodness gracious me. This

:21:34.:21:40.

isn't without drama, this beam rotation! We set coming in that this

:21:41.:21:45.

is where it makes and breaks the all-rounders. A fantastic routine

:21:46.:21:49.

until then. Christine was saying, would she go with a bigger dismount?

:21:50.:21:54.

Too much energy, a straight back somersault as a warm up for the full

:21:55.:22:02.

twists we see later. Big skill, that round off fall twist, she really

:22:03.:22:06.

fought to keep that on. A lovely splits. The free walkover, into the

:22:07.:22:16.

jump... Into the next, you have two show two jumps in connection. Here

:22:17.:22:21.

is the double pike, she never committed to the landing at all, I

:22:22.:22:27.

think her feet were right and. In team convocation she did a full

:22:28.:22:33.

twist. -- right under. -- in team qualification she did a full twist.

:22:34.:22:38.

Charlotte for Leto's score. One more piece to go for her, her eyes will

:22:39.:22:48.

be glued to the scoreboard shortly -- Carlotta Ferlito. How costly will

:22:49.:22:52.

her dismount be? How far down will she go? Had she maybe got a 14.5, it

:22:53.:23:01.

will be a 13.5. A hallmark for the full? Yes. -- hallmark for the fall?

:23:02.:23:12.

When she lands, her hips are miles behind, you must time it more

:23:13.:23:18.

carefully than that, let go of the legs, and lift the chest. It is very

:23:19.:23:28.

much game over for Seda Tutkhalyan. She has not got a strong enough

:23:29.:23:33.

floor to pull this right back up. Unfortunately, I think that is her

:23:34.:23:42.

chances over. The current leaders happy. Mustafina is two marks down

:23:43.:23:49.

from Simone Biles. Pressure on the shoulders of Aly Raisman. She was in

:23:50.:24:01.

for. Great Britain'sEllie Downie, was in seventh, looking to score in

:24:02.:24:06.

the high 14s for this piece, to be in with a chance, potentially.

:24:07.:24:15.

She needs a 14.365 to be up with the medallists at the moment. Front

:24:16.:24:22.

grip, toe on half, straight into the Shaposh, into the big catch up.

:24:23.:24:30.

Cleanly caught, full turn into another big catch. Straight into the

:24:31.:24:36.

low bar. Just bringing it in too close, she will carry the routine

:24:37.:24:44.

on. There is the Shaposh. Then, the wind-up to the final element, which

:24:45.:24:50.

is the dismount, double straight. Just losing her knees, she came off

:24:51.:24:55.

slightly till early. What a shame, that's difficult section she did so

:24:56.:25:02.

well. She just brought the Pak salto in too close to the bar. Not much

:25:03.:25:09.

you can do after that. You can see Seda Tutkhalyan... 13.8.

:25:10.:25:18.

Rebeca Andrade is the next gymnast onto the beam. She was in fifth but

:25:19.:25:25.

did qualify in third, what a story it would be for Brazil here if she

:25:26.:25:27.

could medal. Goodness me! That was an edgy start

:25:28.:26:00.

to the routine. The two jumps, she is fighting so well. The layout

:26:01.:26:05.

somersault had a big wobble, and a big wobble between the two leaps.

:26:06.:26:10.

Really, a lot of the gymnasts have got a little bit nervous, really, I

:26:11.:26:16.

suppose. They have seen others falter, and that she did not take

:26:17.:26:23.

off at all with that leap, she will have another go. Changing leg, with

:26:24.:26:34.

the ring. A free walkover, she has her rhythm back now. Here we go,

:26:35.:26:45.

with the dismount... Double pike, and that's how you land. That was

:26:46.:26:50.

definitely what you describe as a fight is routine but she fought and

:26:51.:26:55.

did not come off the apparatus. She had the composure to go again for

:26:56.:27:00.

that jump. Yes, she knew that it mattered. One of the big elements

:27:01.:27:08.

that will build up a score. Ellie Downie waiting for her score, it's

:27:09.:27:17.

in, 13.7 83. And your husband there, Chris, saying next apparatus,

:27:18.:27:21.

mentality, think about what's coming up, don't think about that. That's a

:27:22.:27:26.

pretty good school with two errors in the routine, it proves she needs

:27:27.:27:30.

the quality to be at the top of this board. But you had to have the

:27:31.:27:36.

consistency as well. There was the change, she did not feel the

:27:37.:27:40.

take-off was right, the second time, she performed it beautifully. Two

:27:41.:27:45.

somersaults linked together, she picked up the rhythm right towards

:27:46.:27:49.

the end of the routine. The first bit was a little shaky. You can see

:27:50.:27:54.

her spotting the end, and then the double pike dismount. She knew that

:27:55.:28:00.

she had to fight, maybe her coach has told her others have come off,

:28:01.:28:04.

she knew that if she fought for every little bit, it can make the

:28:05.:28:11.

difference at the end. The Brazilian team have done so well for

:28:12.:28:15.

qualification. An enormous amount of preparation and focus goes in when

:28:16.:28:20.

it is a home games, but they've had access into every final we've seen

:28:21.:28:26.

so far? Yes, we've not seen that on the world stage, they were not in

:28:27.:28:29.

the team final in the World Championships, they really had to

:28:30.:28:32.

raise their level to make it this time around. Only one piece of

:28:33.:28:42.

apparatus left to work on, Aly Raisman will have to do that with

:28:43.:28:47.

the whole arena watching. Aly Raisman was in fourth position. It's

:28:48.:28:51.

been a tentative beam rotation, 13.6. The Brazilian crowd here are

:28:52.:29:04.

not happy with that. The pressure is on Aly Raisman now. Silver Medal

:29:05.:29:17.

position, Mustafina. But this is Aly Raisman. A very powerful gymnast.

:29:18.:29:26.

Using the front somersault start, and the flicks straight back, very

:29:27.:29:33.

cleanly done. Change lead into a back somersault, not a flicker --

:29:34.:29:42.

change leg. Here are the two compulsory jumps you need to show.

:29:43.:29:53.

And the low beam element. Free card well. -- cartwheel, a change leg

:29:54.:30:08.

car. -- half. A huge front somersault, really

:30:09.:30:12.

showing every element to the maximum. There is the spin, straight

:30:13.:30:20.

into a back spin, she will get a connection for that, and the final

:30:21.:30:24.

dismount, wait and see this... It is something special... Last little

:30:25.:30:31.

test. The big round off, double Arabian. And a small hop forward.

:30:32.:30:49.

That was the most secure routine we have seen. Yes, she did not strut

:30:50.:31:01.

her stuff like in the team final, but she set herself apart from the

:31:02.:31:07.

rest. And she had a long wait to do that routine. You can see the

:31:08.:31:10.

wonderful technique every time she lands. The feed I separated one in

:31:11.:31:15.

front of the other, so she can get her feet right down. The dismount is

:31:16.:31:21.

very impressive, but quite a big hop today. She will be very pleased she

:31:22.:31:27.

did all those repetitions in the training gym. She needed all of

:31:28.:31:34.

those under her belt today. It looks like it could be the USA won an two

:31:35.:31:40.

at this stage. It is Simone Biles ahead of Aliya Mustafina. We will

:31:41.:31:52.

wait for that score to come in before the gymnasts can move on to

:31:53.:31:57.

that final piece. Simone Biles will be on fluoride to wrap the

:31:58.:32:04.

competition up. Aly Raisman, of the four Olympic medals she has one of

:32:05.:32:09.

them is a bronze on beam from London. Just having a debrief on how

:32:10.:32:20.

shaky it was. You were talking about their training camp and how relaxed

:32:21.:32:25.

they are. They have got around, it is like a training camp on a farm.

:32:26.:32:31.

Yes, it is in Texas and they all go there as a team and pretty much eat,

:32:32.:32:38.

sleep and drink gymnastics. Their preparation is very hard and focus,

:32:39.:32:43.

but it is really nice. In these games we have seen a lot of

:32:44.:32:46.

personality within the American gymnasts. Simone Biles is smiling

:32:47.:32:52.

and waving at people. It has been really nice to see that. There will

:32:53.:33:00.

be a lot of pressure on Aliya Mustafina's floor routine. That is

:33:01.:33:06.

not enough to go ahead of Aliya Mustafina at this stage. So Aliya

:33:07.:33:14.

Mustafina clings on. Simone Biles leads the all-around competition

:33:15.:33:18.

with one piece of apparatus to go. Aliya Mustafina is in silver medal

:33:19.:33:28.

position. Giulia Steingruber is in fourth. Ellie Downie is an night.

:33:29.:33:40.

Considering her hesitant bar routine is a pretty strong position. There

:33:41.:33:43.

is confirmation of all that. It is very close, it will all come

:33:44.:34:09.

down to a few tumbles. We are talking about precision. Everything

:34:10.:34:16.

is always in line with the beam. Even when she knows she is slightly

:34:17.:34:21.

off she has got that awareness to know to correct it straightaway.

:34:22.:34:27.

This is the front somersault into the jump. Everything is performed to

:34:28.:34:36.

its maximum. The height, the amplitude, right down to the toe

:34:37.:34:37.

point. And the big smile. Current silver medal position, Aliya

:34:38.:35:03.

Mustafina. That beam routine was vital for her because Aly Raisman

:35:04.:35:08.

can pip out on the floor. Yes, she is a lot more powerful. Aliya

:35:09.:35:15.

Mustafina scored 15.9 in the team final, so had she had that, she

:35:16.:35:19.

would have been up close to Simone Biles. I am very impressed that she

:35:20.:35:28.

is up so high. This is Ellie Downie. All this difficult work at the

:35:29.:35:32.

beginning was really well performed, the big Tkachev, she did the full

:35:33.:35:41.

pirouette which is often something she needed to work on. In that room

:35:42.:35:50.

she was a bit too close to the low bar, but this is the dismount. It is

:35:51.:35:55.

very unusual for how to falter on the dismount. It is. Her feet were

:35:56.:36:01.

lower than what they would normally be. Her hips were slightly behind

:36:02.:36:12.

her feet and there was not a lot she could do, Giulia Steingruber is

:36:13.:36:23.

moving on to the bars, her final apparatus, not her strongest bees.

:36:24.:36:29.

She is currently in fourth position, so we will see if she can hold onto

:36:30.:36:42.

that. -- not her strongest piece. We can see the gymnasts warming up from

:36:43.:36:49.

here. That last floor routine will bring the roof off. The crowd in

:36:50.:36:54.

here has been really fantastic, they have been really supportive of the

:36:55.:37:00.

gymnasts, especially the Brazilians. The Brazilian floor routine has got

:37:01.:37:06.

quite a lot of attention here. Rebecca Andrade will be performing

:37:07.:37:15.

to Beyonce. Cool! That top group finish on the floor. This second

:37:16.:37:22.

group go over to vault, the third group is on bars and the fourth

:37:23.:37:27.

group finish on the tentative beam. Ellie Downie is in that group as

:37:28.:37:32.

well. She had a little fall in the team final. But it will be a crowd

:37:33.:37:42.

pleasing finish, as Beth said. Simone Biles, three times world

:37:43.:37:46.

champion, three times all-round champion, and it looks like she is

:37:47.:37:49.

going to be Olympic all-round champion. We will let you call it

:37:50.:37:57.

the tentative beam today. It certainly has been. These gymnasts

:37:58.:38:07.

are still warming up on vault. They have to adjust the springboard and

:38:08.:38:10.

make sure everything is right and mark out the run-ups. They are

:38:11.:38:20.

allowed two vaults, so they take a bit longer moving the springboard.

:38:21.:38:24.

The springboard these days are very heavy. And there are two different

:38:25.:38:32.

types, so you might see the coaches swapping them in and out. On floor,

:38:33.:38:40.

the first of the top six gymnasts in this group. The big double twisting

:38:41.:38:47.

double back to start. Such a slight gymnast, but very powerful.

:38:48.:38:55.

Concentration to come straight back down the diagonal. The one and half

:38:56.:38:59.

walk out into the triple twist punch. A difficult combination to

:39:00.:39:09.

put together. There is the full spin that they have to show in their

:39:10.:39:18.

routine. The next big tumble, the two and a half twist straight front,

:39:19.:39:25.

no problems whatsoever with that. She now has a bit of time to show

:39:26.:39:30.

off the routine and get the all-important jumps and leaps in.

:39:31.:39:46.

The judges will be looking to see whether everything is fully turned

:39:47.:39:53.

in that element. And building up to the final tumble. The double pipe. A

:39:54.:40:01.

great way to finish her Olympic Games in this all-around final.

:40:02.:40:15.

Packed with energy and difficulty. There was an enquiry put in by Aly

:40:16.:40:19.

Raisman on beam, but it has been rejected. Ellie Black on the vault.

:40:20.:40:28.

She was in sixth place. Finishing with a high-scoring vault. She has

:40:29.:40:32.

got an unusual vault. That was really nicely performed.

:40:33.:40:48.

She has had a great competition. Made up somewhat for the

:40:49.:40:59.

disappointment of no team final. Giulia Steingruber is in fourth at

:41:00.:41:03.

the moment. She is looking at the scoreboard, knowing what she has to

:41:04.:41:09.

do in her last piece. This is Shang Chunsong on bars. She is in seventh

:41:10.:41:13.

at the moment, but has a high-scoring routine on the bars.

:41:14.:41:21.

She posted a difficulty of 6.7 in qualification, so we know that she

:41:22.:41:27.

can. The huge Tkachev release straight down into the low bar.

:41:28.:41:32.

Straight into the high bar, into the Gienger. Then the turning

:41:33.:41:43.

combination. Another full-time, into the Jager. Very clearly caught,

:41:44.:41:51.

straight arms. And she builds up into the dismount, and she nails the

:41:52.:42:02.

landing. In with a chance. If it was not for that really we vault, she

:42:03.:42:09.

certainly would be up there. That week vault.

:42:10.:42:28.

That is the superhigh Tkachev over the bar down to the low bar. She is

:42:29.:42:38.

a very light gymnast, very slight. That is an interesting combination,

:42:39.:42:44.

cleverly constructed by routines from the Chinese. They only go down

:42:45.:42:51.

to the low bar once. Often because they are tiny gymnasts, they

:42:52.:42:53.

struggle with the transitions, so they have got rid of many of those.

:42:54.:43:03.

What does the next few moments hold for Aliya Mustafina. The current

:43:04.:43:07.

Olympic bronze medallist on the floor. Sorry, Olympic all-round

:43:08.:43:20.

bronze medallist. Everybody here we'll is that she performs well.

:43:21.:43:32.

The opening spin was very nicely held. A superhigh full twisting

:43:33.:43:41.

double back. That was important, the triple leg

:43:42.:43:50.

up spin. Beautiful balletic line, supple

:43:51.:44:27.

arms. One and a half into full turning front. She is nailing it

:44:28.:44:33.

all. She just needs one good last

:44:34.:44:55.

landing. The double Tucker. She has done her absolute best there. Really

:44:56.:45:02.

classical, a great gymnast of the Russian tradition. Will it be

:45:03.:45:07.

enough? I think it will be enough for a medal, I do not think it will

:45:08.:45:12.

be enough for the silver position. I think the same, I think it will be

:45:13.:45:14.

bronze. Shang Chunsong goes into the lead

:45:15.:45:34.

for the moment. I love muster Fina's shoulder line. She never looks tense

:45:35.:45:40.

in the shoulders. She has a dancer's posture. Some of the big tumbles, a

:45:41.:45:54.

balletic routine. The big spins. Using the one and a half punch into

:45:55.:45:59.

the full twist. It might not look the big powerful tumbles you see

:46:00.:46:05.

from Simone Biles, but she builds difficulty in different ways. The

:46:06.:46:12.

final test, here, the double top. Cleanly executed. Just a small step

:46:13.:46:19.

back. And now she has to sit and wait. Heard difficult to score in

:46:20.:46:31.

qualification was 5.7. That is against Simone Biles' 6.8. One mark

:46:32.:46:39.

more in difficulty Simone Biles has. In London she was the most decorated

:46:40.:46:45.

gymnast and what an accolade, to come back for years later and to

:46:46.:46:52.

medal again. In women's gymnastics, it is harder to do. Most gymnasts

:46:53.:46:58.

you will see doing one Olympic Games on the female side. For heard to win

:46:59.:47:04.

medals in London. She had a tough time coming through the last four

:47:05.:47:09.

years. She has had injuries here. Maybe has not performed how she

:47:10.:47:15.

wanted, but to peak ready for the Olympic Games, great credit to her.

:47:16.:47:19.

Great competition in the Russian team, which have a knock-on effect

:47:20.:47:24.

that got them the silver. So much competition and so much quality in

:47:25.:47:28.

there. You have the youngsters coming through. You can see they are

:47:29.:47:33.

doing more Mac and it makes you become stronger and as a result, the

:47:34.:47:37.

team becomes stronger because you constantly fight for a place and

:47:38.:47:42.

that happens with the American team, with so many strong gymnasts in that

:47:43.:47:47.

team. They have to do so many trials to get in the team. The competition

:47:48.:47:53.

is hard. Will it be her swansong? I do not think so. Muster Fina. It is

:47:54.:48:05.

going to be close. She is ahead to -- Aliya Mustafina. All to do now,

:48:06.:48:10.

after the fall of the beam. The chest down, having to recover

:48:11.:48:24.

from that. She needs to pick up herself after

:48:25.:48:45.

the fall on the beam and perform for the very last time.

:48:46.:48:53.

Into the double pike. That is the fall again. That is her bid for a

:48:54.:49:00.

medal totally gone that she has to keep performing to finish off the

:49:01.:49:02.

routine. The change leg.

:49:03.:49:16.

Round off, one and a half. A big step backwards.

:49:17.:49:30.

Into the double spin on the floor. Almost fell out of that.

:49:31.:49:39.

Just had to recover out of it. Just the final tumble. Really needs to

:49:40.:49:42.

dig deep. Double tuck. Hands down, again. What a

:49:43.:49:59.

distant pointing weight to finish. It was not happening for home. I am

:50:00.:50:04.

surprised. She struck me as a fighter but after the disappointing

:50:05.:50:09.

dismount on the beam, she was just not up for it, really. All of those

:50:10.:50:14.

mistakes were things she has done many times correctly.

:50:15.:50:23.

This is when the factor of just two gymnasts per country becomes a

:50:24.:50:26.

frustration because you know there are other Russian gymnast who could

:50:27.:50:31.

make an impact, especially on the top five. This is a real chance for

:50:32.:50:39.

Giulia Steingruber. Doing very nicely. The full pirouette envelope

:50:40.:50:52.

bar. -- on the low bar. A nice Gienger somersault.

:50:53.:50:58.

Shuffling along the bar a little bit.

:50:59.:51:05.

Up into a big dismount. Well, that was a good performance.

:51:06.:51:10.

It is not the highest level difficulty but she is a gritty

:51:11.:51:16.

performer. She would need 14.9. It is a big ask. I think so. You can

:51:17.:51:27.

see the full term. -- turn. Had to use the extra upstart handstand.

:51:28.:51:38.

There is the Shap. So many gymnasts are using this combination to build

:51:39.:51:47.

up the difficulty. A spatially aware gymnast. She knows exactly where the

:51:48.:51:57.

landing is. We think she probably fell on the beam at the beginning.

:51:58.:52:02.

She will be ruling that, now she is so close.

:52:03.:52:09.

10.966 for Seda Tutkhalyan. What a disappointment. Rebeca

:52:10.:52:23.

Andrade combining super acrobatic skill with the rhythmic dance. Watch

:52:24.:52:24.

out for the move. A very powerful gymnasts. The first

:52:25.:52:38.

tumble. Fall in. Back out. Nails the landing. The

:52:39.:52:43.

crowd are really going to enjoy this routine.

:52:44.:52:52.

She loves to perform. She is really showing off this routine.

:52:53.:53:00.

The two jumps you need to do. And the spin. Just fell out of that at

:53:01.:53:08.

the end. Really artistic routine. And she is

:53:09.:53:15.

enjoying the moment. Combining the artistry with the big

:53:16.:53:43.

tumbles. That was the double tuck. Has to make sure she has saved

:53:44.:53:45.

enough for the last tumble. A big double pike. Big landing. Well

:53:46.:54:04.

done. What a superb way to wrap up the all-around competition in front

:54:05.:54:10.

of her home crowd. The majority of this place dancing along. She has

:54:11.:54:16.

had her ups and downs through the pieces but she never gave up. She

:54:17.:54:21.

fought through. She might well have put herself in the position to be

:54:22.:54:26.

fighting for a medal. She was in fifth. She needs 14.9.

:54:27.:54:38.

I'm sorry, she needs 15.4. She has a very nice mixture of good

:54:39.:54:49.

tumbling and sparkly dance. She is a gymnast who can combine the whole

:54:50.:54:55.

lot. My impression is she is slightly short on training, really.

:54:56.:55:00.

Only just back from injury. I think she will be one of the really

:55:01.:55:06.

successful gymnasts during the next four-year cycle. And she is still

:55:07.:55:11.

only 17 years old. She has plenty of time. I think she will be one of big

:55:12.:55:18.

names. She has a lovely style about her. She can sell a floor routine.

:55:19.:55:37.

Steingruber, 13.8. Seventh, at the moment. Down on what she would have

:55:38.:55:46.

hoped for coming into the competition.

:55:47.:55:51.

It would be great if Rebeca Andrade could finish in the top ten.

:55:52.:55:57.

The score is in. 13.7 66. The Brazilian crowd, I don't have to

:55:58.:56:15.

tell you. They are not happy. Aly Raisman. With it all to do. She

:56:16.:56:34.

only needs 14 to go ahead of Aliya Mustafina, who leads the competition

:56:35.:56:46.

with Shang Chunsong in third, however, the two most powerful

:56:47.:56:49.

gymnasts on the floor have yet to go. Waiting for the scoreboard to

:56:50.:56:56.

clear will stop and Aly Raisman, current Olympic champion on the

:56:57.:57:03.

floor. She can do her thing. Aly Raisman has to stay on her feet. If

:57:04.:57:10.

she does, she will go into the lead. She has an exceptional tumbling

:57:11.:57:18.

series here. The one and a half, the walk-out, double Arabian and punch

:57:19.:57:24.

into straight front somersault. Beautiful work.

:57:25.:57:37.

Lovely control. Good height on the leap. Another big tumble on its way.

:57:38.:57:47.

Double pike, Arabian, into the jump. Gymnasts are not allowed to stand

:57:48.:58:09.

for a long time in a corner. And again, double straight somersault.

:58:10.:58:18.

The only thing with Aly Raisman, that she is a little bit short of

:58:19.:58:25.

the splits sometimes. But she sells the routine. Lovely big splits.

:58:26.:58:31.

Just the final tumble. Superhigh, super landed. That is how you do a

:58:32.:58:48.

floor routine under extreme pressure will -- pressure. What an

:58:49.:58:56.

unbelievable series of acrobatics. And she really, it means so much to

:58:57.:59:02.

her. Great Britain's Ellie Downie finishes her competition on the

:59:03.:59:09.

beam. She scored 14.5 in the team final.

:59:10.:59:14.

A simple start to get her up onto the beam.

:59:15.:59:24.

Here is a very big skill. The standing Arabian.

:59:25.:59:42.

Very good splits. Keeping the rhythm of the routine.

:59:43.:59:56.

The double spin, very well executed. And the flick layout. Fighting this

:59:57.:00:07.

whole routine, not wanting to give away anything. The jump, slight

:00:08.:00:10.

pause before the free cartwheel. Just building up. Which dismount

:00:11.:00:34.

will she use? Double Arabian, oh... Just slightly over of --

:00:35.:00:38.

overregulated it. Brand-new dismount, but she went for broke.

:00:39.:00:44.

That's a shame because it was a great beam routine. We are back on

:00:45.:00:51.

floor with Aly Raisman to see a few more of her tumbles and goodness me.

:00:52.:00:55.

You can see how much it meant to her. She took a couple of years away

:00:56.:01:00.

after London 2012 and then really fought back to get into that team

:01:01.:01:03.

and as soon as she landed that tumble, just the emotion flooded

:01:04.:01:10.

out. 15.433 is enough to push Mustafina down into that third

:01:11.:01:13.

position, with one gymnast left to go. So Simone Biles will wrap up

:01:14.:01:22.

this women's all-around final with fireworks.

:01:23.:01:28.

This am for gold in the women's all-around final. The smile says it

:01:29.:01:39.

all. She loves to perform. Double straight somersault with the twist.

:01:40.:01:50.

Not daunted, enjoying every minute of it. Double straight with half

:01:51.:01:59.

turn, immediate jump. Watch this for a third tumble,

:02:00.:02:31.

double twisting, double straight, only took half a run.

:02:32.:02:46.

One last tumble, to become Olympic champion. Here it is. Absolutely no

:02:47.:02:52.

doubting. And what a champion! Finishes with a

:02:53.:03:06.

flourish and there is gold number two for Simone Biles. Absolutely

:03:07.:03:09.

superb performance. CHEERING

:03:10.:03:16.

Wow, the adoration and the disbelief that is going around this arena

:03:17.:03:22.

right now, to witness this. To be here, to watch that! It was just

:03:23.:03:30.

something else. Well, to watch both the American gymnasts on floor, they

:03:31.:03:35.

were so positive, so well rehearsed. And the experience must have been to

:03:36.:03:47.

console said Tutkhalyan, she tried but it wasn't to be. So it's one and

:03:48.:03:53.

two to the USA and Mustafina will take the bronze. Which I think she

:03:54.:04:01.

will be highly delighted to come away with.

:04:02.:04:07.

Just 4'8", but full of power and it's almost confusing, isn't it, how

:04:08.:04:19.

she manages to do that. You were talking about that third tumble,

:04:20.:04:22.

Chris, and the

:04:23.:04:23.
