It is the first game back after the Six Nations and Edinburgh welcome

:00:28.:00:35.

nine internationals into the squad. They go into this match having lost

:00:36.:00:38.

five games of the Pro12 so tonight is hugely important for Edinburgh as

:00:39.:00:42.

they travel to Llanelli Divis scholars. -- to face Scarlets.

:00:43.:00:51.

Good to have you with us. The Pro12 is back after a breathless Six

:00:52.:00:55.

Nations and we are delighted it is Andy Nicholas here with us, hugely

:00:56.:00:58.

important much for Edinburgh tonight because so far their form has been

:00:59.:01:02.

pretty poor, lost a lot of internationals away with the Six

:01:03.:01:05.

Nations but they need to get back on it tonight. They need to stop that,

:01:06.:01:10.

they are playing for pride for the rest of the season, they have big --

:01:11.:01:16.

a big European match next week so tonight is about getting a bit of

:01:17.:01:19.

form and tried to get a bit confidence and momentum into the

:01:20.:01:23.

game next week. Let's have a look at the table because it does not make

:01:24.:01:26.

good reading from an Edinburgh point of view. It could always have

:01:27.:01:31.

Glasgow because if Edinburgh get a win against Scarlets it could help

:01:32.:01:37.

Glasgow get in that play-off place. Edinburgh mate and just not been

:01:38.:01:46.

scoring .4 tries. -- points or tries. It has been a disappointing

:01:47.:01:50.

season but they have a new coach and I think these last five games, they

:01:51.:01:55.

are going to be looking at selection, may be time for contracts

:01:56.:01:58.

so all Edinburgh can do is try and finish the season on a high and get

:01:59.:02:02.

some pride back into the season. One thing they have not been able to do

:02:03.:02:06.

so far is they have not scored tries. Not getting points on the

:02:07.:02:09.

board. Where will that come from tonight? Where are the tries going

:02:10.:02:19.

to come from? It has been a problem all season. Glasgow themselves are

:02:20.:02:25.

55, but look at the top three, 76 for Leinster, these guys are scoring

:02:26.:02:32.

tries and Edinburgh have not been able to score. They have been fairly

:02:33.:02:37.

solid in defence but not getting the creativity. It is not an easy fix,

:02:38.:02:41.

there are not just a couple of players who need to comment, I think

:02:42.:02:45.

it is a whole change, not just personnel but how they approach it,

:02:46.:02:50.

so I think there is a lot of work to be done for Edinburgh. It is not an

:02:51.:02:56.

easy fix. They have dot-macro, Berghan and fought in the front row.

:02:57.:03:08.

-- Dell. And Ford. They will be better for it, it was quite a

:03:09.:03:11.

sobering experience for Allan Dell at times and Berghan sat on the

:03:12.:03:16.

bench a lot. I think that tells his confidence. It interesting that

:03:17.:03:20.

Gilchrist has not come back into the starting team so the pack has not

:03:21.:03:25.

been a problem for Edinburgh so far this year, it has been a lack of

:03:26.:03:28.

creativity. They will be solid tonight. I like the back row,

:03:29.:03:34.

Ritchie and Du Preez, they will work and make it tough for Scarlets, but

:03:35.:03:37.

you have to be better than that to get into the top six. And know

:03:38.:03:42.

what's on tonight, he has gone down to Manchester on family business.

:03:43.:03:46.

Looking at Edinburgh over the last four or five seasons, it is a

:03:47.:03:49.

similar picture because they have had different coaches coming in and

:03:50.:03:52.

they have tended to finish towards the bottom of the table. It is

:03:53.:03:56.

frustrating for the fans the gods they sometimes show goods is of

:03:57.:03:59.

excitement and talent but they cannot seem to maintain it. In

:04:00.:04:06.

general, the squad has not been as strong as the sides they are

:04:07.:04:11.

competing against. Glasgow, across the board they have had better

:04:12.:04:15.

players, better back-up players something times and Edinburgh's

:04:16.:04:19.

first strength teams. There has been an imbalance there-macro. It is not

:04:20.:04:25.

an easy fix, and I just think Richard Cockerill will have a hell

:04:26.:04:28.

of a job to do when he comes in next season and he will look at it and

:04:29.:04:33.

say, let's start afresh. That is why I think these last five games, these

:04:34.:04:36.

guys might be playing for the future because a new coach will come in and

:04:37.:04:40.

have his own ideas. I like some of these players, they are good club

:04:41.:04:45.

players, but they are just not making that step up, to compete

:04:46.:04:50.

against Leinster and Ospreys and Munster Mack, who had their top

:04:51.:04:54.

players back, they are struggling. -- Munster Mac back. I wonder if

:04:55.:05:00.

they will bring in more young Scottish players because Glasgow

:05:01.:05:03.

have done that. There is the Scarlets dressing room, they are

:05:04.:05:06.

quite clearly up for this tonight, for imported much for them. It will

:05:07.:05:12.

be busy, I imagine. Their first game back after the Six Nations and they

:05:13.:05:15.

welcome back some big international players. There is Ross Ford leading

:05:16.:05:19.

his team had done at Llanelli, Scarlets against Edinburgh, Alan and

:05:20.:05:23.

Hugh will take us through it. COMMENTATOR: Spring has sprung in

:05:24.:05:35.

West Wales. There is a spring in the step of scholars, buoyed up by the

:05:36.:05:39.

return of seven other international players. Edinburgh welcome back nine

:05:40.:05:47.

of their internationals. A fantastic night for rugby. The Edinburgh team,

:05:48.:05:50.

and all international front row. Duncan Weir is in at ten, the

:05:51.:06:07.

regular backline with Burleigh coming into the centre and Kinghorn

:06:08.:06:12.

at fullback. A great sense of expectation around Parc y Scarlets,

:06:13.:06:20.

with a top four place on offer. It would look weighted heavily in

:06:21.:06:30.

favour of the Reds. It is a fantastic might -- make for a Scrum

:06:31.:06:38.

V, a swirling wind down at the park, but this is the game and Scarlets

:06:39.:06:42.

are putting, the contrast in Bonn could not be stark. -- this is the

:06:43.:06:52.

team Scarlets are putting out. Parkes the captain in midfield. The

:06:53.:07:03.

benches, well, a rear view of Barclay, the Scottish captain. --

:07:04.:07:11.

rare view. McInally and Gilchrist on the Edinburgh bench. More to come

:07:12.:07:18.

from them, of course, we would imagine, these key figures who are

:07:19.:07:26.

involved in that amazing match in Paris, we would assume the laws of

:07:27.:07:31.

the game and the 80 minutes will be in the hands of the gods.

:07:32.:07:47.

A potent backline here from Scarlets. Moving the ball quickly

:07:48.:07:55.

already. A perfect night to throw the ball around. Conditions

:07:56.:08:03.

absolutely superb. The Scarlets showing where they intend to play

:08:04.:08:10.

this game. Elias takes it in. Recycle very quickly. And the big

:08:11.:08:20.

Irishman, again, they come left right through Jonathan Davies.

:08:21.:08:24.

Edinburgh said they have not been able to get their hands on the ball.

:08:25.:08:30.

This time it is Tom Price. They were looking Billy Sharp in the warm up.

:08:31.:08:33.

-- really sharp. I think Scarlets are going to put it

:08:34.:08:49.

about tonight. First opportunity for Edinburgh. Richard Tillyer from the

:08:50.:08:57.

three. Edinburgh have won it again. I mentioned earlier, the Scarlets

:08:58.:09:07.

team have threats everywhere. A fairly big but very mobile pack. It

:09:08.:09:13.

is my first visit to the Stadium and the pitch is superb. It is a great

:09:14.:09:18.

night to play and they will certainly make the most of it.

:09:19.:09:23.

Hopefully we will see a few tries to. I have been enduring a splendid

:09:24.:09:34.

day in West Wales. The hospitality has been of a commensurate order!

:09:35.:09:36.

First scrum. Slightly heavier Edinburgh pack,

:09:37.:09:54.

about 30 odd kilograms, here they come. Immediately heading for the

:09:55.:10:04.

line. Scarlets have it. Rhys Patchell marks his return to the

:10:05.:10:08.

Scarlets line-up within three minutes, they have sliced Edinburgh

:10:09.:10:12.

wide open. You could see that coming. Sitting here you could see

:10:13.:10:22.

the way Edinburgh set up and the winger was trying to cover but had

:10:23.:10:27.

too much to do. It was exploited really well from Patchell. The

:10:28.:10:37.

winger was miles away. Simple run around, and Patchell, he is not the

:10:38.:10:46.

quickest but he has made it. He had the whole West Wales to a mat

:10:47.:10:49.

because it just opened up in front of them. He has not played since New

:10:50.:10:53.

Year, the confidence is totally back. He has gone a fair distance.

:10:54.:11:01.

Edinburgh invited them into that hole and they did not shut it down

:11:02.:11:07.

quick enough or cleverly enough. Quality players always do expose

:11:08.:11:13.

that. He has had surgery on his ankle, and I have the feeling as he

:11:14.:11:18.

lined up for the kick, he had not really taken enough time to settle

:11:19.:11:26.

himself down. The chest going in and out. But he had plenty to do when he

:11:27.:11:32.

got the ball, but he had absolute confidence, very narrow, the

:11:33.:11:37.

Edinburgh defence. It has left the winger in no man's land. The winger

:11:38.:11:44.

has to be involved. If they are going to do that defence, the winger

:11:45.:11:51.

has to be quicker. A bit slack. Edinburgh need to put their clock

:11:52.:11:55.

forward, they do not need to wait for the weekend, they need to get to

:11:56.:12:02.

grips with this quickly. Good touch by Du Preez, allowing it to go out.

:12:03.:12:07.

Got the better off trying to knock it back in. -- thought the better.

:12:08.:12:11.

Already Scarlets have their tails up. Could not ask for a better start

:12:12.:12:20.

for the fans around Parc y Scarlets. Giving vent to their feelings! A

:12:21.:12:26.

suggestion they felt they were hard done by during the Six Nations and

:12:27.:12:31.

now is the time. They see the top four as an option here, clearly. And

:12:32.:12:39.

Edinburgh have it. Hidalgo-Clyne, has an ocean to go down the wing.

:12:40.:12:46.

Scarlets have to be careful here. Steffan Evans is rumbled. John Lacy

:12:47.:12:54.

taking a good look. Keeping Edinburgh back. Managed to feed it

:12:55.:13:00.

back quickly to Alan Davies. Inside the Kinghorn. Edinburgh shifting it

:13:01.:13:08.

quickly. Christine is caught. Could not quite get away. -- Chris Dean.

:13:09.:13:20.

Kinghorn goes in to retrieve it. It is good to see Hidalgo-Clyne sharp,

:13:21.:13:26.

lifting his head and seeing that space in behind. Duncan Weir sees a

:13:27.:13:32.

space in behind as well. That is the first and Edinburgh have began to

:13:33.:13:35.

get a bit of momentum into the game. Hidalgo-Clyne delivering the ball

:13:36.:13:41.

quicker. It looks like they can use it when they get it quickly. Players

:13:42.:13:47.

like Sam, they look forward to getting a quick and open game.

:13:48.:13:51.

Trouble here for Scarlets! Caught behind the line. Now there is a

:13:52.:13:57.

chance for Highlands. He needs to get his head down and let rip. --

:13:58.:14:03.

Highland. Did not quite make enough of that. -- Highland.

:14:04.:14:09.

Hidalgo-Clyne... Red line defending for Scarlets, quickly retaining the

:14:10.:14:15.

shape but this time John Lacey says they are smothering the ball. Years

:14:16.:14:22.

over on his haunches as well, he was involved in that ruck. They got a

:14:23.:14:28.

penalty the next breakdown. There is a chance here for Duncan Weir to get

:14:29.:14:34.

Edinburgh on the board. That was a bit of a poor effort behind the

:14:35.:14:40.

line. Just get out of the way, jumping up or leave it alone. It is

:14:41.:14:44.

a specialist job getting that ball back quickly and precisely with time

:14:45.:14:50.

to clear. The number eight had a bit of a brainwave. Well, there will be

:14:51.:14:57.

words, no doubt, but Duncan Weir settling himself, Rhys Patchell

:14:58.:15:04.

clearly rushed a bit, just having a listen to John Lacey having a word

:15:05.:15:10.

with Berghan about some of the technicalities of the scrum. Duncan

:15:11.:15:11.

Weir with Edinburgh's first chance. That will give Edinburgh some

:15:12.:15:25.

relief, because they have managed to get points on the board after eight

:15:26.:15:31.

minutes. Scarlets leading 5-3. And in no hurry to come back to restart

:15:32.:15:39.

the game either. Certainly pleased with their electric start through

:15:40.:15:45.

the hands on the pace. This time he is going the opposite way. It comes

:15:46.:15:50.

off and Edinburgh hand because he changed his mind. He was facing up

:15:51.:16:00.

to go one way. That court Edinburgh by surprise. They are not letting

:16:01.:16:12.

Edinburgh get settled. They do not want Edinburgh to get a flat for and

:16:13.:16:16.

getting them all going. Eras Mata for the first time. To do with

:16:17.:16:24.

seeing him on the ball a bit more. Hoyland below it. That has drifted

:16:25.:16:32.

out. We were done in the field earlier and round about the stadium,

:16:33.:16:36.

the nature is fantastic, beautiful evening, but there is a swirling

:16:37.:16:39.

wind which will affect the kicking. Hill yes, it is a nice enclosure but

:16:40.:16:46.

they do have the tunnel at either end. The wind will whistle through.

:16:47.:16:58.

Patchell again, to Davies. In John Lacey driving it back very quickly.

:16:59.:17:07.

I feel he has got to have a big game this evening, Davies. He struggled

:17:08.:17:12.

in the Six Nations a little. If he is looking for a Lions place I think

:17:13.:17:16.

he will have to have a big finish. Will have to do well in this

:17:17.:17:22.

competition. Again on the ground, Edinburgh competing well, and John

:17:23.:17:27.

Lacey steps in. Ritchie, click on the ball. A good sign for the seven.

:17:28.:17:36.

-- quick. Duncan Weir will go down the line. I suspect over on that

:17:37.:17:42.

side, the wind is not so much of the difficulty.

:17:43.:17:48.

And he has gone for the full treatment on that one, that is a

:17:49.:17:55.

beauty. Liam Williams just shepherding it out, he knew he was

:17:56.:17:56.

beaten. So, perfect attacking position for

:17:57.:18:03.

Edinburgh. They are in the right area now. Ross

:18:04.:18:12.

Ford. Not the tidiest of takes. John Lacey

:18:13.:18:33.

steps in. Simon Berghan blocking in the line. That is a wasted

:18:34.:18:37.

opportunity. You do not get better than that. A great kick, then they

:18:38.:18:43.

butchered it at the line-out, a soft penalty. That was a real butchered

:18:44.:18:51.

chance for Edinburgh. Goodwillie did not go well from the very start, the

:18:52.:18:56.

tape was not good and it went downhill after that. But Rhys

:18:57.:18:59.

Patchell has not made that much ground. That has gone wrong

:19:00.:19:08.

horribly! Berghan this time again. Breslin's past. This again, they

:19:09.:19:19.

have spilled it and gone over. The reaction time, Edinburgh have to

:19:20.:19:23.

react quicker than that. They were too slow to. -- to get there. They

:19:24.:19:34.

should have made sure... Well, I suspect perhaps the wind is a bit

:19:35.:19:41.

more problematic on that side. Both sides having difficulty with the

:19:42.:19:50.

line-out. I think Edinburgh can be a nuisance at line-out time. They went

:19:51.:19:56.

through the full repertoire of options, Scarlets. They must be

:19:57.:20:01.

struggling. There we are. Up the middle. They have got men on both

:20:02.:20:06.

sides but they are drifting over towards this side, Scarlets. Tom

:20:07.:20:13.

Price. Massive second row. Six foot ten, both of them. A possible late

:20:14.:20:21.

hit there, Mata going in. I think the line judge has not intervened.

:20:22.:20:26.

But the timing was just marginally out. Quick ball, Alan Davies. This

:20:27.:20:40.

time they outer again. Time to step back again, space is appearing, the

:20:41.:20:45.

defence all over the place. Shingler took it in. Plenty of time to

:20:46.:20:52.

realign themselves, Patchell lets it go, messy in the middle. They go

:20:53.:20:57.

with the slightly hazardous and messy option of the drop goal. I get

:20:58.:21:03.

the feeling that they are over complicating it. There was nothing

:21:04.:21:10.

on at all then suddenly they seemed to get through the Edinburgh

:21:11.:21:15.

defence. Just lacking concentration. Once Scarlets got through, the

:21:16.:21:23.

handling was very slack. The ball in behind, a little step, and off-load.

:21:24.:21:28.

McNicholl. Again, Shingler, wonderful ball control eventually,

:21:29.:21:33.

but if he had taken the option Patchell took of going for the line,

:21:34.:21:42.

it was there. Get the head down. He looked more like a Harlem

:21:43.:21:46.

globetrotter there for a while! Edinburgh just need the ball, need

:21:47.:21:50.

to get some possession and territory. A bit of a spark from

:21:51.:22:01.

somewhere. It is a bit pedestrian and predictable from Edinburgh, that

:22:02.:22:04.

is the difficulty. That has gone straight up the middle. Our fullback

:22:05.:22:14.

again, Todd Blackadder reckons he is a rare talent. No need to argue. We

:22:15.:22:19.

could maybe get a view on that Mandy Nicholl back in the studio. It has

:22:20.:22:23.

been an interesting but scrappy start. But no doubt Scarlets are

:22:24.:22:27.

here to play tonight and I think if Edinburgh's defence does not get a

:22:28.:22:31.

lot better than it was for that first try, could be a long night. It

:22:32.:22:35.

is very loose, they have good players, Liam Williams out wide, I

:22:36.:22:40.

think Edinburgh need to make sure their defence is solid. That is the

:22:41.:22:48.

basic problem for Edinburgh. Just the gap that was left for Rhys

:22:49.:22:54.

Patchell to motor through. A player not renowned for his pace. He left

:22:55.:23:03.

Edinburgh in his wake. Tom Price has a swing. I think it was Alan Dell...

:23:04.:23:17.

Here they come again, long passes. Fumbled by Edinburgh. Maybe time to

:23:18.:23:24.

use that long pass and swing it to the far side. It is just confidence,

:23:25.:23:34.

you know, he shot in, Hoyland, trying to close it down, and I don't

:23:35.:23:39.

know, it looked messy, you have to be more assertive. If you're going

:23:40.:23:43.

to get a man on the ball. He was nowhere near it and Williams had

:23:44.:23:49.

that chip over. Field position again. McNicholl looks a potent

:23:50.:23:55.

threat from the back. I like Williams as a player. If he messes

:23:56.:24:06.

up, I think I would like to see him playing at 15. For me, he had a

:24:07.:24:13.

great time with Wales last season. I think Warren Gatland will have him

:24:14.:24:18.

in the back of his mind to take him out there. Alan Davies with another

:24:19.:24:28.

good field position. We almost halfway through the first half. But

:24:29.:24:36.

Edinburgh have stemmed the tide in a somewhat fragile state, being

:24:37.:24:40.

pummelled here. John Lacey has the advantage already. They have this

:24:41.:24:46.

for nothing. Cutting through. Duncan Weir goes in. Stays in. Alan Davies,

:24:47.:24:51.

they still have the advantage. Wonderfully taken by Jonathan

:24:52.:24:58.

Davies, who keeps the ball alive. Shingler, Scarlets running riot

:24:59.:25:05.

here! It is just too much inventiveness, pace, skill,

:25:06.:25:07.

everything, and a penalty to come. Beautiful play. We always knew that

:25:08.:25:14.

penalty... Shingler has that free role, he is a big, athletic type and

:25:15.:25:19.

he has been given able to meander around the pitch. He will be a

:25:20.:25:26.

threat all night. And the way scholars performed in the last

:25:27.:25:29.

scrum, cannot see anything other than going down the line and having

:25:30.:25:33.

another go. Because that will have given them a tremendous lift, not

:25:34.:25:37.

only the stretching Edinburgh from side to side, at the moment giving

:25:38.:25:46.

them a bit of doing in the as well. I would be annoyed if I was the

:25:47.:25:54.

Scarlets winger, because you do not expect such an upset.

:25:55.:26:03.

Early days, but options aplenty for Scarlets. Another one coming here.

:26:04.:26:11.

This is just below us here, Steffan Evans is lurking with intent on

:26:12.:26:17.

stretching, it making Edinburgh mark him, effectively. While the rest of

:26:18.:26:21.

them are camped on the far side of the page. In it goes.

:26:22.:26:28.

Edinburgh doing their best to disrupt it legally and come round.

:26:29.:26:40.

John Lacey has spotted Anton Bresler. Here's over the line. That

:26:41.:26:47.

had an inevitability from the very point data possession. Then

:26:48.:26:52.

Breslauer, the penalty was coming, the forwards took it on themselves.

:26:53.:27:02.

Good line-out to start with, but they won that all pretty clearly and

:27:03.:27:10.

Edinburgh stayed down. The body positions now, the forwards, they

:27:11.:27:18.

are too high. Not low enough. Richard Cockerill will not like

:27:19.:27:24.

that. They must be doing that in training at least ten times a day.

:27:25.:27:29.

Wyn Jones has been credited with placing the ball, as the Inquisition

:27:30.:27:40.

starts. Edinburgh are up against two tries done already and we are just

:27:41.:27:43.

halfway through the first half. Scarlets leading 10-3. A big hand

:27:44.:27:50.

below us here for Wyn Jones. Slightly more composed, Patchell has

:27:51.:28:08.

completed the business with another two points. That has put Scarlets on

:28:09.:28:17.

easy street, really, 12-3. And given what we saw here, it is going to be

:28:18.:28:23.

a long night. Well, we kept saying that in the first 20 minutes but

:28:24.:28:26.

that is what it has felt like from the start of the game. Scarlets have

:28:27.:28:33.

set out their stall, we know they're going to play, Edinburgh have been

:28:34.:28:40.

disappointing up front. Duncan Weir goes blank, despatched back nearly

:28:41.:28:46.

to have weight. -- goes for a length. I wonder where Edinburgh can

:28:47.:28:53.

find some inspiration, some physicality that seems to be lacking

:28:54.:28:55.

at the moment. Massive aid for the Scarlets, they

:28:56.:29:11.

all seems to be six foot eight, 69, six foot ten, apart from Samson Lee.

:29:12.:29:16.

Edinburgh taken care of that. They have butchered it again, lost it at

:29:17.:29:20.

the back of the line. In they go through Ryan Elias. Rhys Patchell.

:29:21.:29:25.

Again, they are swinging it out to the winner will stop Williams cuts

:29:26.:29:32.

inside. That idiosyncratic running cell of his which is so deceptive.

:29:33.:29:36.

-- running style. Possession everywhere for the Welsh.

:29:37.:29:49.

They have lost it this time. Edinburgh have a chance to return.

:29:50.:29:56.

There is a gap for Chris Dean, and Kinghorn did not get his hand on it.

:29:57.:30:02.

Very scrappy in midfield. Berghan is still down. There is a huge gap year

:30:03.:30:06.

now. Edinburgh have to be very careful. John Lacey has immediately

:30:07.:30:16.

stopped the game. I do not think he was quite aware of the possibly

:30:17.:30:25.

serious nature of Simon Berghan's injury, but it is scrappy, Alan.

:30:26.:30:30.

There were some nice touches, Scarlets put that nice ball on the

:30:31.:30:36.

line. We were talking before the game about quality players, I am

:30:37.:30:43.

being a little fussy, Chris Dean, he has developed as a centre, the gap

:30:44.:30:50.

was there, if you have got the wheels, that is maybe why Edinburgh

:30:51.:30:53.

are where they are, the quality players, Jones, Bennett, they have

:30:54.:30:58.

taken that gap in the truth and they creating scores and that is

:30:59.:31:02.

difference between a good player and a really good player a brilliant

:31:03.:31:06.

player. Once you get bigger, you have to be all over them and then

:31:07.:31:08.

finish. Johnny McNicholl running at you.

:31:09.:31:22.

It's so difficult for Edinburgh to catch its. They all have that pace

:31:23.:31:31.

to hurt you. This is where Berghan was injured, he went down

:31:32.:31:36.

straightaway, very clearly. I think it's his left elbow. He's on his

:31:37.:31:44.

feet, but just having a look at the Edinburgh bench below as here, there

:31:45.:31:50.

doesn't seem to much activity. I think we should rename the pitch,

:31:51.:31:54.

because there are legends everywhere. If they aren't on the

:31:55.:31:57.

wall, they're walking up the stairs. Some clubs are producing the

:31:58.:32:04.

players. Bennett, one of the all-time greats. Jonathan Davies sat

:32:05.:32:08.

behind us. I was having a chat with him before the game. This place has

:32:09.:32:12.

produced some of the best players in the world. He's being overly modest,

:32:13.:32:19.

because he was recognised around the building as well. Meanwhile,

:32:20.:32:24.

Scarlets come again. Berghan is back on his feet and still playing.

:32:25.:32:32.

Patchell just delays the pass and a quick move with Williams coming in.

:32:33.:32:38.

Clever move. Variety in their play. They have men over here. And again a

:32:39.:32:43.

short pass. That is a simple one for James Davies. He must have thought

:32:44.:32:48.

is playing sevens again, a game that huge gap. The defence is not there

:32:49.:32:55.

to stop this kind of move. As I say, I'm a defence coach. If one missteps

:32:56.:33:03.

in you all step in. Hoyland turned out, he turned in. It's a confidence

:33:04.:33:10.

thing in defence. You've got to feel confident with the guys around you

:33:11.:33:14.

and work together. He has gone out and he should have gone in. Here's

:33:15.:33:19.

not even at pace crushing the line. You just have to look at his pace.

:33:20.:33:23.

You can't believe what has happened. There's nobody behind him. Kinghorn

:33:24.:33:28.

has gone to the outside channel, he didn't expect anybody to come

:33:29.:33:33.

through the middle. As I say, it is those back row forwards. Shingler

:33:34.:33:40.

now, now Davies is doing it. This is the kind of my pet Edinburgh, you

:33:41.:33:45.

know, that is where you have to work as one defensively. -- that is the

:33:46.:33:47.

kind of night Edinburgh. 25 minutes on the clock, and we're

:33:48.:34:06.

almost at 25 points, not quite appoint a minute but it's looking

:34:07.:34:10.

pretty grim for Edinburgh. This is how it happened. The gap was that,

:34:11.:34:14.

the men were the kind that is a sevens player something a gap as

:34:15.:34:21.

well. Look at that gap! There is Hoyland and Kinghorn on the outside

:34:22.:34:26.

channel, sitting in formation, maybe they should have been flatter. It is

:34:27.:34:30.

how the defence coach said it up. The big thing I used to say to the

:34:31.:34:35.

players is quite defence is a beta defence, and I can't hear any noise

:34:36.:34:40.

from the Edinburgh boys. -- is a beaten defence. We'll come back to

:34:41.:34:47.

the pre-match warm up as well, where there was quite a stark difference.

:34:48.:34:52.

There is a chance here all of a sudden! It Burleigh out of

:34:53.:34:59.

absolutely nothing, Edinburgh now... This could be. If they can just

:35:00.:35:02.

galvanise themselves and start capitalising. That was slack. There

:35:03.:35:11.

is a chink in their armour. They are putting pressure on the kicker

:35:12.:35:15.

there. They are talking to other behind the sticks, yeah, Berghan

:35:16.:35:25.

they're taking great pressure on the kick. A great line. A quality

:35:26.:35:31.

finish. So, all is not the doom and gloom we thought it was just a few

:35:32.:35:35.

minutes ago because Edinburgh are back. With a score of broadband they

:35:36.:35:41.

have added in front of a post -- with a score on the board. 19-10,

:35:42.:35:47.

Scarlets lead and we are still not said whom it into the game, we have

:35:48.:35:56.

four tries. -- we are still not 30 minutes into the game. Rhys

:35:57.:36:04.

Patchell, again with a short kick. He is not given that one enough.

:36:05.:36:09.

Edinburgh will get to play it. John Lacey has given them the chance to

:36:10.:36:17.

move it. What Edinburgh need to do is score next, to build on what they

:36:18.:36:22.

have managed to get. All of a sudden, it is a 9-point game. He has

:36:23.:36:30.

better length at this time, Patchell takes. You just wonder if that was

:36:31.:36:35.

the initial rush of enthusiasm of a player coming back into the team

:36:36.:36:39.

that carried them on. And he will begin to slow down the. Who looks a

:36:40.:36:44.

bit nervous now. He is beginning to consider his options, having been

:36:45.:36:53.

caught once. Duncan gets in a scrap, but still get that back. Jamie

:36:54.:36:57.

Ritchie spinning, doing a Watson here. That's better. Kinghorn comes

:36:58.:37:06.

in like a rocket. Forward pass, again just the timing not quite

:37:07.:37:13.

right. Getting excited the. The cumulative effect of the little

:37:14.:37:19.

things is that the rhythm of Edinburgh is disrupted. Good to see

:37:20.:37:26.

Kinghorn looking for the ball. The cross field kicks were the height of

:37:27.:37:29.

Kinghorn, he is a big lad, they are trying to get players up there. It's

:37:30.:37:33.

a good way to change the point of attack. Midfield, Burleigh comes

:37:34.:37:45.

over to this side. In fact, he has come back this way. That's

:37:46.:37:50.

symptomatic, part of the problem, I think. Burleigh is like a yo-yo back

:37:51.:37:55.

and forth behind the scrum. He has now decided he's going back to this

:37:56.:38:09.

side. Solid scrum. It takes two people out every time. Williams is a

:38:10.:38:17.

good player. Clever play. You just wonder how potent he would be at the

:38:18.:38:23.

centre of the pitch. Scarlets have all sorts of players going forward

:38:24.:38:28.

on the wing, they have a wing in at full-back. The numbers mean nothing.

:38:29.:38:32.

I suspect that's the philosophy now. If you can put on a red shirt, you

:38:33.:38:40.

can play anywhere. And it's working, because Edinburgh just look like

:38:41.:38:43.

they are growing. They are chasing shadows all the time. The team often

:38:44.:38:50.

take longer, they are taking a bit too long. As I say, that trial has

:38:51.:38:54.

got them back in. It could have been a lot worse. --. Try. Within nine

:38:55.:39:03.

points again. They just have to stay in again, a few minutes until

:39:04.:39:09.

half-time. John Lacey is not too interested in summary tying up their

:39:10.:39:13.

slippers. I think it's Tom Brown, is it? On the far side. A slightly

:39:14.:39:21.

unusual position guarding the five metres there, Scarlets little chip

:39:22.:39:25.

over the top, Edinburgh have to be very careful this time. The bounce

:39:26.:39:28.

was favourable but they have caught it. They have stripped them again,

:39:29.:39:35.

they have extra men, the bonus try is here and it is Rhys Patchell with

:39:36.:39:41.

his second try of the evening, secured an early bonus point. The

:39:42.:39:49.

fourth try for Scarlets after just this many minutes, they lead.

:39:50.:39:52.

Patchell is pulling the strings. That little chip over the top. They

:39:53.:40:01.

have the line spreading and Patchell is just chipping it over the top.

:40:02.:40:05.

The bounce was looking for Edinburgh, but that turn over the

:40:06.:40:09.

strip, then you can't recover from that position. Edinburgh needed to

:40:10.:40:19.

score next, but they haven't. It's just a permanent position on what's

:40:20.:40:26.

gone wrong. I can't seem to put it right. Which is the difficulty. --

:40:27.:40:31.

they can't seem. Patchell already reminding everybody of what he's

:40:32.:40:38.

got. Not the least of which is the phenomenal boot. The strip is coming

:40:39.:40:44.

more and more into the game now, and coaches have to address that.

:40:45.:40:48.

Players taking the ball, you know, it's part of the game. You have to

:40:49.:40:52.

protect that ball and make sure it's as tight as it can be. That's how

:40:53.:41:00.

defence coaches work. If you attack the ball, the strip's on. You know,

:41:01.:41:05.

there he is, Jonathan Davies wrestles the ball of him and Tom

:41:06.:41:11.

Brown has to be bigger and stronger than that. And look at the red

:41:12.:41:19.

shirts. Yeah. Rhys Patchell had 91 point going into tonight's game.

:41:20.:41:24.

That is him well through in a hundred points. That is a careless

:41:25.:41:34.

kick. 77%, Patchell's kicking rate. As well as being already on hat

:41:35.:41:40.

trick. We are still eight minutes shy of half-time. That's the last

:41:41.:41:48.

thing you want. Frustration writ large on Duncan Weir's face. And the

:41:49.:41:54.

demeanour of Duncan Hodge, the acting coach tells its own tail.

:41:55.:42:03.

Edinburgh stayed with the same defence as the last one, but the

:42:04.:42:06.

only difference is that Scarlets have put an extra on the left, so it

:42:07.:42:13.

is three versus four. Using a scrum-half to cover a lot of ground.

:42:14.:42:18.

This is inviting them. They are pretty far apart as well. It's like

:42:19.:42:24.

calling their bluff, it's like a double bluff, I suspect. They will

:42:25.:42:30.

do the obvious thing. Well, they've done one thing! LAUGHTER

:42:31.:42:36.

You've got to hook the ball. You don't often see that now. The hand

:42:37.:42:46.

came in. If we watch this closely, John Lacey's about 12 inches away

:42:47.:42:51.

from that, watching what's going on. Not exactly clandestinely, was it?

:42:52.:42:58.

Duncan Weir down the line. From halfway. He has given that plenty of

:42:59.:43:04.

welly. Again, a good attacking position. Let's see if they can

:43:05.:43:07.

create something now. That gap has extended again to 16 points. John

:43:08.:43:20.

Lacey chatting away. Basically saying that the number nine can't do

:43:21.:43:23.

the hoping. -- the clock. Well taken. Jamie Ritchie hazard.

:43:24.:43:42.

Street snaffling it. You see the body positions of the Scarlets.

:43:43.:43:48.

Hidalgo-Clyne, Burleigh goes around takes it. There is a penalty coming.

:43:49.:43:58.

It's one of these ones where the players dipping into it anyway. Let

:43:59.:44:03.

us listen to John Lacey. REFEREE: Thank you very much, I'm dealing

:44:04.:44:10.

with the captain. The OK, thank you very much. He's going to the line

:44:11.:44:19.

judge. The head was down, you see. In defence of the defender, if you

:44:20.:44:23.

are defending that, the player comes dipping in, shoulder down you. I

:44:24.:44:31.

mean, I suppose if you look at it Parkes has got himself in a bad

:44:32.:44:35.

position, he is she turned his shoulder in. He doesn't look the

:44:36.:44:40.

quickest in the world, and he has given the high tackle. It is purely

:44:41.:44:44.

because he lost his feet because he turned his shoulders in. I think the

:44:45.:44:51.

referee and the line judge on the far side have taken an understanding

:44:52.:44:55.

view of that, if you can put it that way. They have made an allowance.

:44:56.:45:04.

Reversed it. That's something was said, presumably, because he

:45:05.:45:07.

reversed the penalty and has given a huge advantage here to Scarlets.

:45:08.:45:13.

Just how the ball there, he could have released. He'll be furious!

:45:14.:45:19.

He's not happy. Here is Patchell with variety, looking for variety.

:45:20.:45:26.

Tom Brown did well. And it's gone, Scarlets' away, so they will have

:45:27.:45:33.

that. Oh, and a fumble. Some rustiness there from Rhys Patchell.

:45:34.:45:39.

Just one or two lapses from the Scarlets. They have had so much of

:45:40.:45:45.

the ball. They've got where they are, but... Everybody makes a lot of

:45:46.:45:49.

internationals coming into the team, but when have been away for four or

:45:50.:45:54.

six weeks, getting back into it is sometimes a coach's problem as well.

:45:55.:45:58.

Both teams are suffering because of that. Players have come back from

:45:59.:46:01.

Six Nations, their bodies will be a bit tired. Their minds will have

:46:02.:46:07.

been, the places they have trained, Wales and Scotland. We'll give them

:46:08.:46:12.

the benefit of the doubt. We need to look back, at what happened with

:46:13.:46:20.

that reversed penalty. I mean, that is hugely careless. But the penalty

:46:21.:46:25.

to be reversed within the other team's 22 metre mark is just

:46:26.:46:30.

unforgivable. We will try to get to the bottom of what happened there.

:46:31.:46:35.

Not messing about in the scrum, the hooker was there. I bet he was tilt.

:46:36.:46:39.

Hit it back, because here I come again. Look at the pace. -- here

:46:40.:46:48.

they come. Parkes turns inside. Again, it's the full-back. There is

:46:49.:46:55.

somebody down the middle of the page doesn't look too good. It in

:46:56.:46:59.

Edinburgh player, and the action is just about around him. The referee

:47:00.:47:06.

has had a quick look but allows play to go on. Scholars take advantage of

:47:07.:47:09.

Edinburgh being a man down. That'll be a deliberate knock-on --

:47:10.:47:16.

Scarlets. It's a card. It's the worst possible outcome for Edinburgh

:47:17.:47:20.

because there is a yellow card here. It is Mata for his attempt. Ross

:47:21.:47:26.

Ford is not happy, he had better be careful because Mata is off. Right

:47:27.:47:33.

from the off, he was caught flat-footed. He was always in

:47:34.:47:36.

trouble, and I think that was the only option. He stopped a try. It is

:47:37.:47:44.

Jamie Ritchie who is down in the middle. And there is, well, I

:47:45.:47:51.

suppose the argument is always the player trying to intercept.

:47:52.:47:57.

Edinburgh now change, number 20 is coming on for Jamie Ritchie. I

:47:58.:48:02.

suspect, making an assumption at the moment, that this is a head injury

:48:03.:48:06.

assessment. As he is leaving the field below us, he looks a bit

:48:07.:48:09.

frustrated. He doesn't look like a player who is going to come back.

:48:10.:48:15.

Yeah, looks like it. So we hope he is OK. We will try and see if we can

:48:16.:48:23.

establish if that is a head injury assessment. Could also be some

:48:24.:48:27.

fatigue, in the final minute of the first half. Hopefully just some

:48:28.:48:31.

fatigue and he recovers at half-time. He has been playing well.

:48:32.:48:38.

He is one of the players who seems to be able to raise his game and

:48:39.:48:42.

match the quality of the opposition. There, confirmation that number 20

:48:43.:48:50.

is coming on as replacement. Scarlets going for another try here.

:48:51.:48:55.

As half-time approaches, they have swung that round to the narrow side.

:48:56.:49:00.

At Edinburgh have competed well, though. And they have an advantage

:49:01.:49:07.

coming. A knock-on. They are running it from behind their own post, high

:49:08.:49:14.

risk. Kinghorn sees the gap. All he has done is give it to McNichol on a

:49:15.:49:17.

plate. I don't know what that was all about. The harder the better I

:49:18.:49:23.

would have thought. Didn't in any way turn the Scarlets on their

:49:24.:49:28.

heels. Here is McNickle again, short pass to Davies. It going. Three

:49:29.:49:34.

players to get him down, and here comes the ball. Tadhg Beirne, in

:49:35.:49:44.

they come again. And forced out. So it's incessant pressure now. Just

:49:45.:50:04.

like the tide coming in on top of Edinburgh all the time. All they

:50:05.:50:07.

want to do now is get to half-time without conceding any more. Exactly,

:50:08.:50:13.

yeah. Just get in. Have a good talk, you know, the defence talk will --

:50:14.:50:19.

coach will talk to them. They have to get their tempo lifted. I do feel

:50:20.:50:25.

that they are over egging it sometimes, when they get into

:50:26.:50:27.

scoring positions they have just been a bit too clever. They have

:50:28.:50:31.

proved already, although tries have come from the simplest approach. In

:50:32.:50:35.

the last minute of the first half, Ross Ford trying to move the ball

:50:36.:50:49.

Ford. John Lacey says it's the same maul, Fihaki this time. Pretty much

:50:50.:50:56.

straight up and down. Well taken by James Davies. Here they come. They

:50:57.:50:59.

want to finish with a flourish. That might not have been the best option,

:51:00.:51:04.

Kinghorn comes to tidy it and he is happy to let it go. But that will

:51:05.:51:10.

give Scarlets enough time to get lined up to challenge the Edinburgh

:51:11.:51:13.

ball. But that was beautifully taken. Just playing with so much

:51:14.:51:18.

confidence, Davies. The Olympic silver medallist.

:51:19.:51:28.

He is like a Welsh Seamus Watson, two of a kind. Ross Ford, the clock

:51:29.:51:43.

has gone red so we should be in the last play. A song rings out round

:51:44.:51:49.

the stadium. No wonder they are happy. They're Scarlets crowd. Sam

:51:50.:51:59.

Hidalgo-Clyne says enough is enough. The referee agrees and the first

:52:00.:52:04.

half is to close. Edinburgh will be relieved to get off the pitch. Rhys

:52:05.:52:09.

Patchell seems to me to be running a bit stiffly as he goes off. It was

:52:10.:52:15.

very, very bad news for Edinburgh from the word go. Rhys Patchell got

:52:16.:52:20.

it underway at about three minutes to put them 5-0 up. Burleigh

:52:21.:52:28.

eventually, with a score out of nothing. And then Patchell got the

:52:29.:52:32.

bonus point right on the half-hour. They had four tries and in total

:52:33.:52:37.

command, the Scarlets, as they make it to half-time. Scarlets lead at

:52:38.:52:49.

Parc y Scarlets. STUDIO: That wasn't great, was at? Difficult, difficult

:52:50.:52:53.

watching. It looks very difficult to. They are not going to win it

:52:54.:52:58.

from here. They have been second best in every facet of the game. We

:52:59.:53:02.

know Scarlets have a lot of creativity and attacking players and

:53:03.:53:05.

they are bringing everything out tonight. They're almost trying too

:53:06.:53:09.

hard, because I think they know that they've got an opportunity. They are

:53:10.:53:15.

up pulling all inside passes. It's good to watch, unless you are an

:53:16.:53:19.

Edinburgh fan. And they already have the bonus point, at 30 minute into

:53:20.:53:28.

the game, incredible. Patchell, great. This was too simple. A nice

:53:29.:53:35.

little wraparound from Patchell, and Chris Dean gets sucked in. It just

:53:36.:53:40.

seems, when you make the initial break, normally as the second line

:53:41.:53:45.

of defence. When you look at it, Chris Dean gets pulled in and then

:53:46.:53:49.

Kinghorn is coming in, Highland has been pulled in. Defensively, it is

:53:50.:53:55.

just all over the place. -- Hoyland. Disappointing. That was nice and

:53:56.:53:59.

wide, this is them at the forwards were doing. It is just really

:54:00.:54:04.

composed, good control. Edinburgh are competing well, they get a

:54:05.:54:09.

penalty there. This is always going inch by inch, just nice and easy.

:54:10.:54:18.

And Wyn Jones. A very simple, well worked try. And this is just what

:54:19.:54:21.

they are trying to do. They are trying lots of different things.

:54:22.:54:26.

Going for a chip over. And an inside pass, it's great. Williams has been

:54:27.:54:31.

brilliant, all over the place defensively as well. Parkes,

:54:32.:54:38.

beautifully held up their just to the weight of the pass, brilliant to

:54:39.:54:44.

James Davies. He just knew he was coming, came from the second line

:54:45.:54:47.

which meant that the Edinburgh defence was all over the place. You

:54:48.:54:51.

know, at that stage, there were just running all over. That was a lovely

:54:52.:54:57.

try. On the outside shoulder to flip it out, lovely. They could pull it

:54:58.:55:05.

back and maybe raise an eyebrow view, it didn't last long but good

:55:06.:55:09.

nonetheless. It was good spirit from Edinburgh. This is the front row

:55:10.:55:12.

working in tandem. Which is what they have to do. Ross Ford misses

:55:13.:55:16.

the tackle but get up to his feet. He tries to make a difference. Watch

:55:17.:55:21.

him and Berghan, putting pressure on Alan Davies. This is Allan Dell,

:55:22.:55:26.

then. At that point coming at 19-10, back in it. Front row, pressurising.

:55:27.:55:34.

Allan Dell, great awareness. Off-loaded to Burleigh, not got them

:55:35.:55:39.

back in the game. They just had to keep the ball and control it, but

:55:40.:55:45.

Scarlets got the ball back. When you do score a try, the most important

:55:46.:55:48.

thing is that you have five or ten minutes to consolidate, don't give

:55:49.:55:51.

away any more points. That is exactly what Edinburgh did. Rhys

:55:52.:55:55.

Patchell once again for his second try of the match. The bonus point as

:55:56.:56:01.

well. They have tried a lot of things. They have tried the passing,

:56:02.:56:05.

a chip over like that, it is the ball can go anywhere. Look at the

:56:06.:56:09.

strength of Jonathan Davies, he just strips them. There it is. Any number

:56:10.:56:14.

of people, but it is Hadleigh Parkes who is the long pass. To Rhys

:56:15.:56:19.

Patchell, who gets his second try which is the bonus point done after

:56:20.:56:25.

30 minutes. That has just been the gulf in class, and there is a gulf

:56:26.:56:29.

in class between the two teams. You have players like Williams and

:56:30.:56:33.

Davies, full of confidence. You have Hadleigh Parkes is just pulling the

:56:34.:56:38.

strings. Rhys Patchell, having a fantastic ride because he has so

:56:39.:56:42.

much opportunity. We will be back talking more about the second half

:56:43.:56:46.

and build towards it, but let's put a smile on our face. Let us talk

:56:47.:56:49.

about the Six Nations campaign from Scotland was the point of view.

:56:50.:56:53.

Looking at the table, this is important from the Scotland point of

:56:54.:56:56.

view. Where are going to see that as faultless, we'll see it as equal

:56:57.:57:00.

second. 14 point that the end of that. -- we won't see at as fourth

:57:01.:57:09.

place. Very positive start. 14 tries, and that for me is where the

:57:10.:57:13.

Scotland team has really developed. To get three wins, first for three

:57:14.:57:17.

wins in the Six Nations were over ten years has been great. And it

:57:18.:57:21.

started off against Ireland, and that 20 minutes of the whole Six

:57:22.:57:27.

Nations was just electric. This was a long passage of play. Stuart Hall

:57:28.:57:31.

was in the heart of everything that made Scotland exciting throughout

:57:32.:57:34.

the Six Nations. Not just scoring tries, but creating them. Second

:57:35.:57:37.

year in a row he has been our best Six Nations player of the

:57:38.:57:42.

tournament, he deserved it. Look at the quality. Murrayfield was rocking

:57:43.:57:44.

at this stage, the confidence was there. They showed innovation as

:57:45.:57:50.

well, which was just fantastic. That is nine, 11 and 12, the first three

:57:51.:57:58.

players in that line-up. They just showed a lot of character to win

:57:59.:58:02.

that game. But that Scotland off to a good start on the Six Nations,

:58:03.:58:05.

brilliant way to finish it. It certainly was, look at the smile on

:58:06.:58:10.

Greig Laidlaw's face. And of course going to Paris and bludgeoned out of

:58:11.:58:14.

the game by a massive and brutal French side. The scrum really

:58:15.:58:18.

struggled in the Ireland game, but the game didn't influence, the scrum

:58:19.:58:21.

didn't influence the game but it did hear echoes, because there were

:58:22.:58:26.

penalties. Stuart Hall finish it off. There was a lot of phases.

:58:27.:58:34.

France absolutely battered as that day. Yet we only conceded one try,

:58:35.:58:40.

so the defence was really strong. This was a bit of opportunism, Tony

:58:41.:58:44.

Seymour to Tim Swinson, great effort from the big lad to get through

:58:45.:58:48.

there and support. 6-point defeat, you know, at the time you think you

:58:49.:58:51.

will take that, a bonus point. And then Wales came out of the blocks

:58:52.:58:58.

firing up my field. The drive from Wales' perspective. It was a quick

:58:59.:59:02.

tap penalty, but in the second half they just clicked. Great to set up

:59:03.:59:09.

play. He scored in the first three tries in the first two games, and

:59:10.:59:15.

then created one. This sums up Stuart for me. Good forward play.

:59:16.:59:21.

Watch the quality of Finn Russell's pass. Scored one, made one, stopped

:59:22.:59:30.

on the defence. It is brilliant. We have to show, my goodness, what a

:59:31.:59:34.

sobering afternoon this was. It was painful. You know, watch these

:59:35.:59:39.

tries. Jonathan Joseph scored three, barely without a blue arm going on

:59:40.:59:43.

him at all. This is first phase. Yes, a lot of movement, there were

:59:44.:59:47.

very quick, good players. But you cannot be going through your

:59:48.:59:50.

midfield defence like that. It was too easy. You know, here is the

:59:51.:59:55.

second half when he got his third. A hat-trick of tries in the Six

:59:56.:59:59.

Nations without a hand going on him. But we showed character. Huw Jones

:00:00.:00:04.

came back and we got three tries. Not quite a bonus point, but then it

:00:05.:00:12.

finished well. Finn Russell reacted well, and that I think is the key.

:00:13.:00:17.

He reacted to the experience at Twickenham. Tee tries in the first

:00:18.:00:23.

half. Matt Scott came off the bench after Jones went off injured. This

:00:24.:00:27.

was what was really encouraging for me. This game could have petered out

:00:28.:00:30.

in the last 20 minutes. A nice kick by Stuart Hall, and he knows whether

:00:31.:00:39.

tries are. This try summed up Vern Cotter. A lot of forwards was good,

:00:40.:00:45.

hard yards and then some execution three on two and Tommy Seymour

:00:46.:00:49.

finishes it off. It was a fitting end to Vern Cotter. Very emotional.

:00:50.:00:55.

Yeah. And direction was incredible. Captain and coach, very close -- and

:00:56.:01:02.

the reaction was. It was a fitting end to Vern Cotter, who has been a

:01:03.:01:05.

brilliant coach was gotten and and has really developed the Scotland

:01:06.:01:11.

team. Big shoes to fill, no doubt about it. Vern Cotter has improved

:01:12.:01:15.

that Scotland team. They believe they have a genocide, they can

:01:16.:01:21.

actually close it out. -- they believe they have victory in sight.

:01:22.:01:31.

And we started the Six Nations with only three and build up to six or

:01:32.:01:40.

seven. I think Johnny Gray, Stewart Rahul Gandhi Tommy Seymour will get

:01:41.:01:45.

picked. I think Russell and Dunbar played himself into consideration.

:01:46.:01:49.

But what happened at Twickenham took them back down the pecking order. I

:01:50.:01:55.

think you Jones could have sneaked on. Hamish Watson has been

:01:56.:02:01.

outstanding but it is such a competitive position. If he goes,

:02:02.:02:09.

someone like war Britain, Brian, Haskel doesn't go. From a Scottish

:02:10.:02:13.

perspective, that's what I think. Let's look at the test 15 you will

:02:14.:02:17.

choose. I don't think anyone will disagree. On the Scottish person.

:02:18.:02:29.

Hogg. I think number 13 some people would say Jonathan Davies but for me

:02:30.:02:33.

he is a Test match animal he gets better the higher you go. I think

:02:34.:02:36.

Warren Gatland will lean on a few players. I think Owen Farrell has

:02:37.:02:44.

been outstanding. Anthony Watson and Lee Williams, not much between them.

:02:45.:02:51.

I think Rhys Webb comes into the mix but Murray and Sexton have great

:02:52.:02:59.

control. I think it is physical enough to take on the All Blacks. I

:03:00.:03:08.

think Vunipola makes an impact. Rory Best is my captain. He has had two

:03:09.:03:17.

victories and has captained Ireland to victory against the All Blacks

:03:18.:03:24.

and over England. The second row, Launchbury and Itoje. But is it a

:03:25.:03:37.

good team in Edinburgh dressing room? After the first 40 minutes it

:03:38.:03:42.

didn't look like it. They are behind in this game, conceding four tries.

:03:43.:03:47.

They have to start scoring. But Scarlets have their tails in the

:03:48.:03:55.

area. -- air. It is hard to believe that Edinburgh

:03:56.:04:06.

won in the early stages of the Pro12. It seems a long time ago.

:04:07.:04:14.

Scarlets are running riot and Edinburgh are a man down with Mata

:04:15.:04:20.

in the sin-bin. Where do they go from here? They just have to look at

:04:21.:04:28.

themselves. It is the leadership role now, who are the leaders in the

:04:29.:04:35.

Edinburgh team to take the game by the scruff of the neck and dragged

:04:36.:04:39.

them back? They have a lot of young players. But they will go nowhere

:04:40.:04:43.

unless the older heads get hold of the game and take it to Scarlets.

:04:44.:04:52.

Scarlets playing in red from left to right. Difficult to see if they have

:04:53.:05:04.

Du Preez at the back. A loose pass. All over the place. In trouble

:05:05.:05:12.

immediately. Fumbled. That sums it up, the way Edinburgh have been

:05:13.:05:16.

playing. It would be good as the ball came over but all of a sudden a

:05:17.:05:22.

loose pass. You don't want to coach a counterattack out of the players

:05:23.:05:29.

but Kinghorn has to look at teams of -- at himself. These decisions are

:05:30.:05:37.

ones the youngsters have to start making. They have to pick the game

:05:38.:05:49.

up and find some pace and effort, Edinburgh, because it is a long road

:05:50.:05:53.

home and we know they are going home later tonight after the game.

:05:54.:06:00.

The referee not happy. Slightly heavier pack, all things being

:06:01.:06:13.

equal. The Edinburgh pack is slightly heavier. Playing without

:06:14.:06:21.

Mata who is sitting on the bench blowers seeing -- below us seeing

:06:22.:06:29.

out his time. I talked about a quiet defence and I just watched the

:06:30.:06:34.

Edinburgh backs and the didn't look at each other or talk or pointed a

:06:35.:06:39.

finger, it is all about body language at this level. You have to

:06:40.:06:46.

let the opposition see you are up for it. These are things these

:06:47.:06:52.

players have to learn, big part of the game. Maybe a statement of

:06:53.:07:01.

intent with the quickly taken penalty. Duncan Weir hoists it.

:07:02.:07:17.

McNicholl is able to take. Patchell... Weir doesn't have a lot

:07:18.:07:26.

of options outside him. Patchell is in the middle basically running the

:07:27.:07:33.

game. A huge gap again. Just raised his head. No movement around him.

:07:34.:07:46.

Unceremoniously put to ground by Boyde. Hidalgo-Clyne with the aerial

:07:47.:08:10.

boot. This is what I said in the first half. Why do that? It was so

:08:11.:08:18.

easy, the easy ball would have got them with three or four men outside.

:08:19.:08:24.

It is concentration. They have to switch on. They may be think the

:08:25.:08:31.

game is won. They can't afford to follow sleep. They started off the

:08:32.:08:40.

night four points behind Ulster, head of Glasgow, we haven't touched

:08:41.:08:45.

on the fact that Scarlets could have done Glasgow a favour tonight by

:08:46.:08:49.

pulling the Scarlets back into the pack but it doesn't work like that

:08:50.:08:56.

is going to happen unless something dramatic happens. Edinburgh have

:08:57.:09:04.

lined up with three. Tom Brown consulting the bench. Not sure what

:09:05.:09:10.

he is trying to establish, maybe checking how long they are a man

:09:11.:09:20.

down. Edinburgh holding the ball is. Burleigh spills it. The with

:09:21.:09:36.

Scarlets. -- the advantage is with. Kinghorn stands between them and a

:09:37.:09:42.

slack pass. Edinburgh could have played on. Just a total hesitation,

:09:43.:09:57.

the whistle had not gone. Lack of communication again. Too many of

:09:58.:10:04.

these passes, basic errors. Both sides have been guilty of some

:10:05.:10:08.

scrappy play. A wonderful break year. The off-load and Davies off

:10:09.:10:18.

and running. I was just about to say that the scrum-half won't last long.

:10:19.:10:24.

There is a better player coming on the field. Mata is warming up on the

:10:25.:10:45.

touchline. Hidalgo-Clyne. Waiting for some stability. That was the

:10:46.:11:00.

marker to that ticket first. Kinghorn through. All the way to the

:11:01.:11:08.

line. Brought down just by Peter Short. The lack of numbers cost them

:11:09.:11:17.

there. Kinghorn was the only man staying on Burleigh's shoulder and

:11:18.:11:27.

that is what cost to them. He went clean through. Kinghorn, great

:11:28.:11:37.

support. That is how close Edinburgh are. If the Scarlets muck about

:11:38.:11:47.

then, you know. I suppose the next score is quite important. Here is

:11:48.:11:51.

the Welsh substitution, Gareth Davies. Kinghorn did the right

:11:52.:11:57.

thing. He clung on eventually but he needed another body. You have to get

:11:58.:12:06.

support. Scarlets in Goodbody positions to get that defence. He

:12:07.:12:12.

did well but here is another for the Scarlets. Edinburgh are back at

:12:13.:12:23.

fault. Numerically at least. -- back at full drain. -- falls strength.

:12:24.:12:41.

Again, Scarlets... A slack option. At half-time they would like a team

:12:42.:12:56.

that had left the first half blind. -- behind. They will have to keep

:12:57.:13:06.

playing to see this came out because Edinburgh have nothing to lose now,

:13:07.:13:16.

just have to go out and play. It is probably better that the pressure is

:13:17.:13:19.

off and the coach has just told them to go on and win the half and get

:13:20.:13:27.

some pride back. Ross Ford delivers off the top. Scarlets competing

:13:28.:13:37.

well, slowing the Edinburgh ball down. Just slightly pedestrian

:13:38.:13:47.

coming back. That is giving Scarlets plenty of time. Even two players

:13:48.:13:53.

back in reserve because they're so confident in the defence capability

:13:54.:13:59.

of the line. That was just off the bootlaces. Flattened for his

:14:00.:14:08.

trouble. Weir was left with no option but to send it straight down

:14:09.:14:15.

the throat of a red jersey. Williams. Up she goes. Almost

:14:16.:14:24.

vertical again. Brilliant. Shingler was pleading his case for the ball

:14:25.:14:31.

and hesitation in the Edinburgh ranks as the play breaks down,

:14:32.:14:34.

virtually waiting for Scarlets to stop. I was about to say I knew who

:14:35.:14:45.

I would put my money on. Look at the concentration. He whipped with a

:14:46.:14:49.

player was, never took his eye off it. And a good competition, fear

:14:50.:14:59.

competition with Tom Brown, but only one winner. Dell looks to be

:15:00.:15:13.

struggling. The referee has the clock stopped again. Dan Jones is

:15:14.:15:25.

coming on. Patchell is going off. He had his time, two wonderful tries in

:15:26.:15:28.

the first half, made his mark, and he is back. It is always hard coming

:15:29.:15:35.

back from an ankle injury, one of those areas where there is not much

:15:36.:15:40.

down there, just bones and gristle, and when you have had a bad injury,

:15:41.:15:44.

it plays on your mind. He is limping a little bit. Probably the rustiness

:15:45.:15:51.

getting out of the ankle. Good to see him back and he has done well on

:15:52.:15:56.

the pitch. He looked uncomfortable going in at half-time. They will be

:15:57.:16:02.

protecting him. They will not want him to have to do too much I

:16:03.:16:08.

suppose. By rights they would assume the game is won. Interesting to see

:16:09.:16:14.

what would happen if Edinburgh got seven points. That might make them

:16:15.:16:21.

think about where they needed to go for the rest of the game. Now they

:16:22.:16:27.

have the important change on the 9-10 axis, strengthened that clearly

:16:28.:16:38.

with seeing the game out in mind. Gareth Davies, 21, Dan Jones is 22.

:16:39.:16:45.

I am looking forward and I hope Barkley gets a fair go. I would like

:16:46.:16:58.

to see him up there. Kinghorn is running out pace over the top. Again

:16:59.:17:06.

the Welsh defence is good and solid but Edinburgh have them. And Tom

:17:07.:17:14.

Brown goes over the ball carefully. The experience of Davies will come

:17:15.:17:22.

in here. Edinburgh can keep this in play. Burleigh has it. There is a

:17:23.:17:29.

gap and he didn't get half enough on that. He almost foot bold it out. He

:17:30.:17:39.

has given it back to Burleigh with Du Preez behind him. On his own and

:17:40.:17:48.

isolated, this is the difficulty for Edinburgh when players make a break,

:17:49.:17:52.

the don't seem to be able to get their numbers static. Bresler

:17:53.:18:06.

looking a bit rusty. They Hakimi -- Fihaki takes it in. Ross Ford spider

:18:07.:18:19.

ring across the field. Slow from Edinburgh. Hidalgo-Clyne with a

:18:20.:18:35.

short pass to Berghan. There are seems to be no venture. Pretty

:18:36.:18:49.

pedestrian, no spark. Alan Dell is clearly in some sort of discomfort.

:18:50.:18:54.

An anxious look towards the bench five minutes ago. I suspect there

:18:55.:18:58.

will be another change. The very fact we have McInally and Gilchrist,

:18:59.:19:10.

McInally is making the point of stretching, as is Gilchrist.

:19:11.:19:18.

McInally is an interesting one. Changed position from back row to

:19:19.:19:24.

hooker. They would expect him to take over from Ross for and in the

:19:25.:19:29.

Scotland jersey but they would have to give him longer to get headed in.

:19:30.:19:37.

John Lacey not happy with how Edinburgh are taken overly long to

:19:38.:19:44.

get into the line. You would think there would be more enthusiasm

:19:45.:19:47.

because they have a good field position here. Edging forward.

:19:48.:19:59.

Hidalgo-Clyne trying to find it. He has been told to use it but he can't

:20:00.:20:04.

find it. Have the Welsh snaffled at? The referee is bringing them back

:20:05.:20:10.

for a knock-on rather than a penalty. I see Grant Gilchrist

:20:11.:20:18.

putting the helmet on and McInally, I would imagine they would come on

:20:19.:20:27.

for this scrum. Ross Ford and Bresler come off. His first season.

:20:28.:20:35.

Beginning to fuel the pace -- feel the pace. He has had a big Six

:20:36.:20:45.

Nations. McCallum has come on as well. McInally and Gilchrist as

:20:46.:20:54.

well. Put him on as a loose end, McCallum, interesting. Dell is off,

:20:55.:21:07.

gingerly walking down the touchline. Ross Ford, 107 caps, getting close

:21:08.:21:17.

to Chris Patterson. 109 is he? It depends when you ask him. Good

:21:18.:21:24.

chance for Edinburgh. Fresh legs, plenty of beef added to the mix.

:21:25.:21:41.

Enthusiasm from the subs. John Lacey says there was an early knowledge. I

:21:42.:21:50.

thought that was drifting back in. A lovely kick. Let's see what the

:21:51.:21:58.

fresh legs bring to the table. Another look at the kick. It looked

:21:59.:22:06.

like it was fading back in. Tom Brown has half a notion it was going

:22:07.:22:10.

to drop into his arms. Let's see what McInally makes of the last

:22:11.:22:17.

three additions. I think the wind has dropped. Straight as a die. If

:22:18.:22:28.

they could get it back quicker. Hidalgo-Clyne misses out Gilchrist

:22:29.:22:42.

who is being held by the ankles. Davies read that well. Kelly Kraft,

:22:43.:22:50.

and the end result is a penalty. You sometimes have to solve as you go

:22:51.:22:53.

forward and he worked it out and thought he was going out to catch

:22:54.:23:01.

Weir. He read it perfectly. A bit of a debate between Parkes and the rest

:23:02.:23:11.

of the team, Parkes seems to want to go for the post but instead down the

:23:12.:23:17.

line. Edinburgh under the cosh again because this is ideal attacking

:23:18.:23:23.

position, the first time Scarlets have really threatened and the

:23:24.:23:26.

second half. They have certainly taken therefore off the pedal --

:23:27.:23:43.

they're foot. Cue the coaches tearing their hair out. That is a

:23:44.:23:54.

poor effort. The wind is not as problematic as it was. There is no

:23:55.:24:02.

indication of any difficulty at all. This is the position Edinburgh are

:24:03.:24:09.

defending to our right. Still a hard exit. They have to clear their lines

:24:10.:24:16.

and have a steady scrum and it's just a free kick away. That is a

:24:17.:24:28.

good scrum from young McCallum at end. -- at loose end. A stumble in

:24:29.:24:41.

the end from Burleigh. Delivered somewhere above his head. The last

:24:42.:24:45.

thing you want when you're standing in the line. Here come the

:24:46.:24:56.

reinforcements for the Scarlets. Number 23 is Van der Merwe, soon to

:24:57.:25:06.

be of Newcastle. And Phillips will replace Elias. I think there is a

:25:07.:25:15.

debate as to who is going off for Van der Merwe. It is Liam Williams.

:25:16.:25:21.

Saving him for another day. Job done. Williams has gone off rather

:25:22.:25:30.

than Steph Evans, who has gone back over to his position on the

:25:31.:25:42.

fireside. -- far side. McNicholl, the strong Kiwi, delivers it on a

:25:43.:25:53.

plate. A penalty to end bra. Hidalgo-Clyne had a little look and

:25:54.:25:58.

there was a Welsh player in midfield and John Lacey picked that up.

:25:59.:26:02.

Didn't want players running all over him, understandably. We are just

:26:03.:26:10.

about at one hour and Edinburgh have stemmed the flow. Just checking what

:26:11.:26:22.

John Lacey is going to do. Parkes trying to intervene on behalf of his

:26:23.:26:26.

player. I thought the referee was come to look at that. One player one

:26:27.:26:33.

player, Gilchrist and one of other Edinburgh players Weir has the ball

:26:34.:26:51.

ready to put it somewhere in the Scarlets but

:26:52.:27:22.

kept I think Scarlets coaches this is not the team when the to take the

:27:23.:28:08.

hard yards and they have tried to go wide I think the Jonathan Davies

:28:09.:28:16.

getting a massive amount of strapping here is playing on the

:28:17.:28:49.

back foot most if Edinburgh are to get into this I

:28:50.:28:49.

think they one in the would like to see scrum. They

:28:50.:29:24.

have trashed Edinburgh. Look at that pick-up at the back of it Edinburgh

:29:25.:29:46.

passing on the other side of the field and

:29:47.:30:02.

let's have a view on the second watching Phil Bennett of mistakes,

:30:03.:30:19.

no shape. You think somebody like Duncan Wear has 1817 minutes. Get

:30:20.:30:26.

some structure. The next game is la Rochelle in the European Challenge

:30:27.:30:40.

Cup. Let's see if they can get something out of they

:30:41.:31:03.

a doesn't make his physicality he doesn't get into slow the

:31:04.:31:27.

They are beginning to throw it around. This can only be tiring for

:31:28.:31:33.

the Edinburgh players as well as anything else, there are shuffling

:31:34.:31:38.

it just one pass too many on the far side. Half of Llanelli waiting now,

:31:39.:31:50.

here they come. McNichol, Davies. But still, they manage to recycle

:31:51.:31:52.

it, take it back in. Edinburgh Strong out across the

:31:53.:32:03.

field. Options on both sides now. They just

:32:04.:32:30.

overran him, Evans inside. The Welsh beginning to up the auntie. Going

:32:31.:32:39.

for a flourish. Still only at 65 minutes -- up the ante. They had

:32:40.:32:51.

extra man. Total frustration here. It's like they don't want to score a

:32:52.:32:56.

try. They have bombed opportunity after opportunity. Edinburgh doing

:32:57.:33:04.

their best at wrestling. Nothing doing. The gap outside the player

:33:05.:33:09.

there. I don't know if anyone can spot it. There is a line of red

:33:10.:33:16.

shirts here, Alan. Edinburgh did well and they've ripped it. Quick

:33:17.:33:29.

transfer of the ball. . Retains ball, retains possession, recycles

:33:30.:33:33.

it. Makes traders and spill it. Edinburgh could do that. Wire,

:33:34.:33:45.

lovely pass! And a penalty. That is more like the Scarlets we saw in the

:33:46.:33:49.

first half. There are some good rugby there. I just can't understand

:33:50.:33:56.

what they were doing. Edinburgh did well to pull them out. It's just too

:33:57.:34:07.

fancy at times. Down trying to... And they have flooded the pitch. And

:34:08.:34:13.

now half have them have been brought back. I don't know what they are

:34:14.:34:17.

looking to do. He was never going to get it. One or two Welsh players

:34:18.:34:27.

going down with cramp as well. I reckon John Barclay will come and

:34:28.:34:32.

now just to finish this game. He's limping, making the point. Number 17

:34:33.:34:40.

will get there first. Evans, he is stripped and ready to go. Barclay is

:34:41.:34:47.

being told to sit down. In the nicest possible way, not just yet.

:34:48.:34:57.

Still McInally. Taken in the middle of the line by Ben Toolis. Edinburgh

:34:58.:35:11.

go on the march, Scarlets let them come. That's messy. By said that

:35:12.:35:26.

even before the ball came shooting out of the side. The position is

:35:27.:35:34.

retrieved. Edinburgh have plenty of men here. Burleigh to the rear.

:35:35.:35:44.

Choked again. That's a bit high. He might find himself in the benefit

:35:45.:35:53.

happens again. John Lacey, penalty only was his decision. Well, you

:35:54.:36:00.

have a case, Alan. A couple he has slipped high. I probably won't meet

:36:01.:36:07.

that guy again. But he has been warned! He's a New Zealander. But I

:36:08.:36:14.

would describe... What do you mean? Like a bag of. I've never seen a New

:36:15.:36:21.

Zealander without shame. He just plods about -- with that shape. He

:36:22.:36:26.

gets caught all the time with his footwork. The Edinburgh branch has

:36:27.:36:31.

been emptied, Duncan Weir is gone. He is replaced by Jason Tovey. Glenn

:36:32.:36:39.

Bryce has gone over to the far side. Just having a cheque at, Kinghorn is

:36:40.:36:51.

wondering. He's wandering off the pitch, that's all I can say.

:36:52.:36:57.

Kinghorn is definitely off. Meanwhile, back at the ranch, normal

:36:58.:37:01.

service has resumed with a Scarlet even without John, winning the

:37:02.:37:09.

contest at the grand hands down. Phillips their number 16. -- at the

:37:10.:37:18.

ground. Some pretty dejected looking Edinburgh players, I can put it that

:37:19.:37:23.

way. Just the way Blair Kinghorn came off the field there. He's not

:37:24.:37:29.

happy, the young lad. He's a young lad and probably thinks that getting

:37:30.:37:32.

Camino, being brought off the field is a little bit of a kick in the

:37:33.:37:38.

teeth. It is a 23 man game now, he needs impact players now. They all

:37:39.:37:44.

need to add something. If the coaching staff who think they can

:37:45.:37:48.

add something, you've got to do it. There's only ten minutes left. We

:37:49.:37:57.

have Tovey at stand-off, Burleigh inside centre. Chris Dean is still

:37:58.:38:01.

there, we have Tom Brown on this wing. And we have Bryce at

:38:02.:38:17.

full-back. And remarkably, five tries in the first half, not a

:38:18.:38:22.

single school since half-time! Just get the scoring. Did we miss

:38:23.:38:28.

something? Little nudge from Edinburgh. Scarlets stand firm.

:38:29.:38:39.

Let's see what Glenn Bryce makes of it with his first intervention. Made

:38:40.:38:48.

ground. Just a lack of numbers, Edinburgh not committing players to

:38:49.:38:50.

the breakdown. Tom Brown. Scrappy ball. It's a bit high in

:38:51.:39:15.

the. Caught and held up. Chris Dean has a go. Makes ten metres. I have

:39:16.:39:31.

never seen anybody look like him. Again the line speed is good. I

:39:32.:39:37.

suspect that for the last ten minutes, this is where they want to

:39:38.:39:45.

play. Turnover is good. It's not the first time I've heard that. And the

:39:46.:39:48.

turnover is good again, but the other way. Let's see how far it will

:39:49.:40:03.

go. And again, the ambition of... And eventually, enough's enough.

:40:04.:40:10.

Discretion is the better part. Number 17 will make sure he is on,

:40:11.:40:21.

Evans coming on. APPLAUSE A big hand them as the... You can

:40:22.:40:31.

see on their faces, Wyn Jones is being greeted there. He has put in a

:40:32.:40:34.

decent shift. Scarlets has basically done enough

:40:35.:40:47.

to control the second half, but I suspect they might get a rock or two

:40:48.:40:51.

when they get back in, because they really should have moved on a bit.

:40:52.:40:59.

Fowles. Look at that. They have done well to get out again. Davies just

:41:00.:41:05.

showing his quality now about the 13 defensive channel. Three Edinburgh

:41:06.:41:13.

players here, let's see what they can do. Du Preez. Slightly lumbering

:41:14.:41:27.

approach to that, he is hacked back. Scrappy in a Welsh player down in

:41:28.:41:30.

some discomfort on the far side there. I have to say, looking at the

:41:31.:41:39.

Edinburgh players at the moment, number 18, Kevin Bryce has come on

:41:40.:41:44.

now as well. Some of them are heaving around. They are finding the

:41:45.:41:48.

pace Camino Scarlets are not giving it full blatter, so the Edinburgh

:41:49.:41:57.

players are looking sluggish -- they are finding the pace, even though

:41:58.:42:05.

Scarlets. It's getting the pipes warmed up again. Simon Berghan is

:42:06.:42:12.

off. Being replaced by Kevin Bryce, so still we have Scarlets 26,

:42:13.:42:19.

Edinburgh ten. Four tries to one. Bonus point, job done at half-time.

:42:20.:42:24.

To all intents and purposes, that is it. Very little headway in the

:42:25.:42:32.

second half. Now we have number 19. It is coming on, Lewis Rawlins.

:42:33.:42:42.

Gigantic player. If one of these players had dropped on in your time,

:42:43.:42:45.

you'd have thought it was a novelty. But now they are all the same. The

:42:46.:42:50.

Scarlets pack is virtually... This is maybe the exception, James

:42:51.:42:57.

Davies. More of a power pack, battery-operated, always fizzing. A

:42:58.:43:03.

real nuisance. He paid the price there. He got to Iraq row of the

:43:04.:43:07.

Edinburgh forwards up the top. It only takes your foot or ankle or

:43:08.:43:13.

need to get stuck -- he got two up of the front row. Hopefully he'll be

:43:14.:43:22.

OK. Big hand for James Davies, he has done the business. No point

:43:23.:43:27.

leaving him on when there could be any question that he might be

:43:28.:43:33.

injured going forward. Scarlets have shovelled them yet again. They've

:43:34.:43:37.

still got it. He could have let them go on even further back, John Lacey.

:43:38.:43:40.

But pulled them back. STUDIO: We appear to have lost our

:43:41.:45:15.

commentators for the moment. No point added in the second half. Not

:45:16.:45:22.

huge excitement! I think the commentators just walked out. It

:45:23.:45:28.

hasn't been a great second half. Scarlets had this game after 30

:45:29.:45:32.

minutes, probably even earlier. They got the bonus point and it has just

:45:33.:45:36.

been very scrappy. There is a lot of effort, but that is the bare

:45:37.:45:39.

minimum. That is what you expect from a professional team. The

:45:40.:45:42.

quality has not been there, the skill level has not been there.

:45:43.:45:45.

There is no shape in attack or defence. The Edinburgh side needs a

:45:46.:45:49.

lot of work done. Richard Cockerill has a hell of a job. They need

:45:50.:45:55.

guidance, they need help. They need someone with some experience. And

:45:56.:46:03.

Scarlets, they needed a bonus point tonight. They got it in the first

:46:04.:46:06.

half and almost making things a bit too conjugated in the second half.

:46:07.:46:10.

Just to try and put on phases together -- to conquer catered. They

:46:11.:46:13.

are just head and shoulders above the Edinburgh team. Jonathan Davies

:46:14.:46:19.

and Liam Williams have been outstanding, there are world-class

:46:20.:46:22.

players here, for a number of years now. They have quality.

:46:23.:46:25.

Collectively, they are much better. Hopefully we can get the

:46:26.:46:35.

commentators back down now. COMMENTATOR: Scarlets still piling

:46:36.:46:39.

forward, they have extra men here. Extra men on both sides. Edinburgh

:46:40.:46:43.

have competed well again. You can just see what Scarlets are doing

:46:44.:46:49.

here. They are trying to finish, to get one Moore scored to put

:46:50.:46:51.

something on the table for their effort in the second half. They

:46:52.:46:58.

increased the tempo. It is the 76th minute and the defence has probably

:46:59.:47:01.

worked, it has all night for Edinburgh, but it is far too late.

:47:02.:47:07.

They need to learn from this and go away. They have a big European

:47:08.:47:11.

quarterfinal next week. That defence has to be from the first minutes,

:47:12.:47:15.

not in the last few minutes. It's certainly stemmed the tide, but if

:47:16.:47:21.

you take the current review of that, Scarlets have taken away all their

:47:22.:47:27.

threats and banked them for the future. -- if you take the counter

:47:28.:47:34.

view. The defence of penalties were there for everyone to see. I'm sure

:47:35.:47:45.

Lara Shell La Rochelle would have noticed that -- I'm sure La

:47:46.:47:55.

Rochelle. Off it goes. And then just disintegrates. Shrug of the

:47:56.:48:00.

shoulders from the referee. You have to be confident with the scrum if

:48:01.:48:03.

you go for the know-how, and Olympic Edinburgh are in a position to do

:48:04.:48:08.

that. You have to make it decision quickly -- and I don't think

:48:09.:48:17.

Edinburgh. That is banking on your scrum. Being able to shift those.

:48:18.:48:27.

That's one way of keeping warm! Just as well the camera hasn't fixed on

:48:28.:48:38.

my colleague, who isn't quite as elegant. Heading for the last

:48:39.:48:46.

minute, we've got 1.5 minutes or thereabouts. And again, the ball...

:48:47.:48:51.

John Lacey has rescued it. They got the penalty, but more through John

:48:52.:48:57.

Lacey's intervention than any effort Edinburgh managed to put into it.

:48:58.:49:03.

The Scarlets could have just driven them back over. Edinburgh manage TE

:49:04.:49:07.

is the pressure. As the clock relentlessly eases towards full-time

:49:08.:49:17.

-- manage to use the pressure. It would appear that we're not playing

:49:18.:49:22.

the 100 minute version of the game tonight, thankfully. It's noticeable

:49:23.:49:26.

that Tovey has taken a bit more of a group of the game in terms of

:49:27.:49:30.

directing traffic. He has had to say. Yeah. Does he have influence?

:49:31.:49:37.

He has something on a midfield. Defensively, and he has put a little

:49:38.:49:43.

stab in there. Just a bit too far ahead. That is scrappy. That's not

:49:44.:49:51.

quite enough to rescue Edinburgh. I have been a bit cruel. A bag of

:49:52.:50:00.

Shepherd 's pie! He is man of the match! What?! He is man of the

:50:01.:50:07.

match. He gets involved, I'm not knocking that, but he doesn't offer

:50:08.:50:14.

anything else. That's fatigue. It's nothing else but fatigue. In 20

:50:15.:50:18.

minutes come he has been gone. He's probably had to stay on because

:50:19.:50:26.

there aren't a lot of sobs. Another player -- a lot of substitutions.

:50:27.:50:43.

Nathan Fowles. I think Jonathan has been outstanding out there.

:50:44.:50:50.

Edinburgh scrabbling to get something out of the game. Ten than

:50:51.:51:00.

the other way, there was no option for Chris Dean, you just know where

:51:01.:51:06.

to go. Scarlets have suffocated the Edinburgh midfield. Nathan Fowles

:51:07.:51:09.

sees a gap. An Edinburgh player injured. Number 18, Kevin Bryce.

:51:10.:51:17.

Long pass out to Mata. The captain buzz side. Flourish from Edinburgh

:51:18.:51:22.

to finish, perhaps, but they have spilled it. Gilchrist keeps it

:51:23.:51:25.

didn't play. John Lacey is given a penalty to Scarlets. The Scarlets

:51:26.:51:33.

can relax because the job is done, and the penalty will be the final

:51:34.:51:40.

action of the play. John Lacey just making sure that that is executed,

:51:41.:51:45.

the ball is in the hands of Dan Jones, who will send it into the

:51:46.:51:49.

crowd. John Lacey will decide that that is that. That man was key to

:51:50.:51:56.

the whole thing. Rhys Patchell. Had he been on for the whole game, he

:51:57.:52:00.

would've been man of the match. If he played like he did in the first

:52:01.:52:03.

25 minutes come he would have sailed through this. He has run the game

:52:04.:52:09.

well. After such a long lay-off, it is tricky with the ankles. He has

:52:10.:52:13.

come back and scored tries, a 50 metre try, I think. There we go, it

:52:14.:52:19.

has been a difficult night. Thank you for your contribution to the

:52:20.:52:24.

night. It has been a difficult night, and La Rochelle beckons for

:52:25.:52:28.

Edinburgh next week. That it from Parc y Scarlets, it has finished as

:52:29.:52:38.

it was at half-time. 26-10. STUDIO: We've been trying to entertain

:52:39.:52:42.

ourselves in these last few minutes by wearing our red noses. That was

:52:43.:52:46.

hard to watch. It was. Whether any laughs all gags or anything? That

:52:47.:52:54.

was a tough 40 minutes. Both sides just quality dropped off,

:52:55.:52:57.

Edinburgh's quality wasn't there in the first off, but Scarlets was. I

:52:58.:53:03.

got this -- they got the bonus point in the first half but took their

:53:04.:53:06.

foot off the gas. Mentally they went, and they were just trying all

:53:07.:53:09.

these passes. It was a tough 40 minutes. All the damage was done in

:53:10.:53:14.

the first half. Scarlets off to a great start, and it was Rhys

:53:15.:53:18.

Patchell with a try in the third minute. A little too easy from an

:53:19.:53:22.

Edinburgh defence point of view. Far too easy. It is the foot race for 50

:53:23.:53:27.

metres. He had the pace. Hidalgo-Clyne is quick and so it is

:53:28.:53:30.

Kinghorn, but they couldn't get back to them. It was cheesy. This was the

:53:31.:53:34.

forwards, very nice and easy, Jones just goes in there. -- it was too

:53:35.:53:42.

easy. James Davies, the next two tries were all about Hadleigh

:53:43.:53:49.

Parkes's pass. You can see they are going through the repertoire. Watch

:53:50.:53:54.

the weight of Hadleigh Parkes and the awareness of whether support is.

:53:55.:53:57.

You just hold the depth there from James Davies and comes through. It

:53:58.:54:01.

was a really well worked try. And then Patchell comes in again. They

:54:02.:54:06.

try different things, let us go for the trip over by the scrum-half.

:54:07.:54:12.

Jonathan Davies should have -- showed the strength, taking candy

:54:13.:54:16.

from a baby. It was only going to finish in one way. Another good pass

:54:17.:54:19.

from Hadleigh Parkes and Patel got the first try. That was game over.

:54:20.:54:25.

Done them, and that was in the first have -- and Patchell got. Patchell

:54:26.:54:31.

scored a try in the third minute and again in the 31st minute. He hadn't

:54:32.:54:35.

played since Christmas, and yet he beat all those Edinburgh backs to

:54:36.:54:41.

that foot race stopped and he came from Cardiff at the start of the

:54:42.:54:45.

season. He is a good playmaker. He has a good physique and a good boot,

:54:46.:54:52.

and so he has the everything. It will be adjusting to see how he

:54:53.:54:58.

develops. Edinburgh did get a try, from Burleigh. In the 27th minute.

:54:59.:55:04.

It was 19-8 other point. A bit of excitement. -- 19- it at that point.

Pressurising Alan Davies, and then Allan Dell, good awareness and

:55:14.:55:17.

off-loading ability to Phil Burleigh. That goes back to

:55:18.:55:22.

Edinburgh at 19-10, there are back in it but they never were. That was

:55:23.:55:26.

the only glimmer. There was one playing the first half that is a

:55:27.:55:29.

perfect example of how Edinburgh would get things together, break

:55:30.:55:32.

down suddenly. They did it in the second half as well. They had a nice

:55:33.:55:37.

break to nothing, really. They get the ball back. The turnover. Scrappy

:55:38.:55:44.

ball there, Lee Williams gets another. China ball commits what you

:55:45.:55:48.

want. Chris Dean does well here. And then it is Kinghorn. That sums up

:55:49.:55:56.

Edinburgh, moments where they were good. Second half, pretty easy, look

:55:57.:56:02.

at Kinghorn, he has the gas. Any footwork and a bit of a handoff,

:56:03.:56:10.

five Scarlets before one Edinburgh and it is turnover. That just sounds

:56:11.:56:14.

up Edinburgh. Moments of hope, and then nothing. That you are Chris

Morris guys on the park are up there trying to clear out all those

players back their -- the two smallest players. Let's talk about

:56:29.:56:33.

the lines, we talked about your starting 15. We didn't get into the

:56:34.:56:37.

back row forwards are necessarily. There won't be any Edinburgh players

:56:38.:56:40.

there. One or two scholars. Let's talk through this. You got as far as

Launchbury. Good at Six Nations. The back row is so competitive. Greg

ball -- great ball carrier in CJ Stander. You know, listen, it's very

:57:00.:57:06.

subjective. I think that is a packer could take on the All Blacks. It

:57:07.:57:10.

could control the half-backs, the backline and some magic in the

:57:11.:57:16.

backroom Stuart Hogg. Absolutely fantastic during the Six Nations, a

:57:17.:57:20.

fearsome player. It can change. There is lots of rugby to play, some

:57:21.:57:26.

injuries. I don't think it will be far away from it. Why do Edinburgh

:57:27.:57:33.

go from here? Well, a huge game against La Rochelle next Friday

:57:34.:57:37.

night I gradually filled -- at Murrayfield. La Rochelle top, or

:57:38.:57:43.

even second in the Top 14 in France, a good side. Edinburgh must play way

:57:44.:57:47.

better than that tonight. That was not good. Can they do that, given

:57:48.:57:54.

the performances given in, six on the bounce lost? The momentum is

:57:55.:57:57.

very difficult. It is going to be tough, but not sure they've got it

:57:58.:58:01.

at the moment. It is very difficult. More coming up on television,

:58:02.:58:04.

Edinburgh are in action. They will against on the 7th of April. Then

:58:05.:58:15.

the next night, months against Glasgow, a hugely important game for

:58:16.:58:18.

Glasgow. They have to go over to Munster and get a win. They're

:58:19.:58:22.

probably have to get a bonus point as well, hugely important. On Good

:58:23.:58:27.

Friday, we're back with Glasgow against zebra. A huge important one

:58:28.:58:33.

for Glasgow. They have to win all of you want to get into the top four.

:58:34.:58:36.

You're expected at the bonus point, but towards the end we've got the

:58:37.:58:41.

1872 second leg as well, lots to look forward to input well. It's

:58:42.:58:47.

been a very difficult night from an Edinburgh point of view. Four tries

:58:48.:58:53.

to one, 20 6-10, it is tough. Thank you very much indeed, it wasn't easy

:58:54.:58:55.

to watch. -- 26-10. Goodbye. The alternative spirit of 6 Music

:58:56.:59:09.

comes to Glasgow, I expect you'll want to become

a schoolmaster? That's what most of the gentlemen

does that get sent down for indecent behaviour.
