Queen's Club. Sunshine, cocktails and some build key -- silky ball

:00:35.:00:42.

skills. Who needs Brazil when you have a carnival of tennis in West

:00:43.:00:43.

London? Yes, World Cup fever hit the Queen's

:00:44.:01:18.

Club. The World Cup kicks off in Brazil but here, it is all about

:01:19.:01:24.

earning a quarterfinal place. This is the order of play:

:01:25.:01:50.

well, it is another hot day. The hottest day of the week so far. It

:01:51.:01:59.

will be even hotter tomorrow. Andy Murray is enjoying these conditions.

:02:00.:02:05.

This is his opponent today, Radek Stepanek. The tricky customer, 35

:02:06.:02:10.

years of age. Feliciano Lopez beat Lleyton Hewitt yesterday.

:02:11.:02:16.

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga is out early today and he is fourth match on

:02:17.:02:23.

Centre, so a long wait for him. And Grigor Dimitrov is also going to be

:02:24.:02:28.

out on Centre Court as well. A lot to look forward to. A great order of

:02:29.:02:32.

play. As far as Andy Murray is concerned, a great start yesterday.

:02:33.:02:41.

He played well, I thought. He won 91% of the points on his first

:02:42.:02:47.

serve, which is almost 70% percentage. He would take that into

:02:48.:02:52.

Wimbledon right now. We saw his movement was superb. He was hitting

:02:53.:02:57.

the ball cleanly. It is not often he doesn't hit the ball cleanly. For

:02:58.:03:00.

his first match on grass, I thought he looked superb already. Mathieu

:03:01.:03:09.

was making him work for some of it. He is perhaps the perfect opponent

:03:10.:03:13.

because he does strike the ball aggressively and he can defend. He

:03:14.:03:17.

does not move as well as Murray does. He gave him a lot of shots to

:03:18.:03:22.

try to fend off and Andy will have been pleased with the day 's outing.

:03:23.:03:29.

The weather, the court, it is all working for him. This is perfect for

:03:30.:03:38.

him to get used to the court. Absolutely. Last year, the first

:03:39.:03:43.

couple of matches, Andy Murray was concerned about the courts.

:03:44.:03:46.

Understandably so. It rained every day and the courts were greasy. He

:03:47.:03:50.

was worried about his movement. Yesterday, he was firm. His backhand

:03:51.:03:56.

down the line, when he hits behind his opponent on grass, was working

:03:57.:04:03.

beautifully yesterday. Perfect to come through that. It is another

:04:04.:04:09.

impressive victory and if he wins again today, he will become only the

:04:10.:04:15.

10th player to win 450 matches on the ATP to Earth. These are all

:04:16.:04:19.

players who are still active on the two. Lleyton Hewitt won his 600 in

:04:20.:04:33.

March. He will be up in the 600s pretty quickly, I am sure. Look at

:04:34.:04:42.

Roger! Who will get close to that? He has also had such an incredible

:04:43.:04:48.

run on grass courts as well. Olympic gold, Wimbledon title, undefeated so

:04:49.:05:00.

far. He is the number one player in the world on grass. He will not be

:05:01.:05:05.

seeded first at Wimbledon will, but people will think of him as the

:05:06.:05:12.

favourite because he is. He will be under a major spotlight for the next

:05:13.:05:16.

four weeks, as will Amelie morass mot. She likes her football as well,

:05:17.:05:24.

by the looks of it. He loves this time of year, even though it is

:05:25.:05:29.

pressured. He embraces the pressure, it seems. You think he would be a

:05:30.:05:38.

bit nervous, but he loves being here. He loves all of the pressure

:05:39.:05:44.

that comes at Wimbledon, where he is on the front page of the newspapers

:05:45.:05:47.

almost every day full is not it is unlike the other rant slams for him.

:05:48.:05:52.

It is big news when he plays those, but not like here. Everywhere he

:05:53.:05:58.

goes, people are taking photos of him, his girlfriend, but he thrives

:05:59.:06:03.

on it. He plays better here pulled up also, having got over it last

:06:04.:06:09.

year, the pressure is perhaps not as intense as it was. Maybe not as

:06:10.:06:17.

intense but everyday is important or multiple champions. Every day they

:06:18.:06:20.

want to improve their bit. Yesterday, he looked as though he

:06:21.:06:27.

could play perfect tennis. He has won two Grand Slams but he wants

:06:28.:06:34.

three. Radek Stepanek will not be easy though. He is a tricky

:06:35.:06:40.

customer. He will not be frightened of the situation. I have got great

:06:41.:06:49.

respect for Radek Stepanek. He is a warrior. He has won the Davis with

:06:50.:06:57.

the Czech team the last two-year 's. Week in, week out, he is always

:06:58.:07:04.

there. He is dangerous. He is one of the best volunteers on the tiller

:07:05.:07:09.

and he will relish this opportunity. It is not a foregone conclusion.

:07:10.:07:17.

Murray obviously be favourite, but Stepanek knows his way around. What

:07:18.:07:24.

about Stan Wawrinka? We were here yesterday saying he had come here

:07:25.:07:29.

after winning -- losing at the French and that he needed some

:07:30.:07:33.

gameplay and his part -- his opponent had to retire. That was not

:07:34.:07:44.

going to be an easy match. Wawrinka will be disappointed not to have had

:07:45.:07:49.

that extra match. He will be playing Sam Querrey, who is a flame-thrower.

:07:50.:07:56.

He is an awkward player. He will not allow Wawrinka to control the

:07:57.:08:02.

rallies from the back of the court. I think that could be a really

:08:03.:08:10.

difficult encounter for him. Such a shame, really, because Marcos

:08:11.:08:14.

Baghdatis having won at Nottingham, really on form, we understand he got

:08:15.:08:20.

this injury early in the match and you don't want to do anything major

:08:21.:08:24.

and have a problem with Wimbledon looming. He would not have done this

:08:25.:08:30.

unless there was a major problem. He is a real competitor. He has a

:08:31.:08:34.

wildcard at Wimbledon and he would have fancied his chances yesterday.

:08:35.:08:39.

He knew he had a chance and it is very unlucky. Today, Stan takes on

:08:40.:08:48.

Sam Querrey who won here in 2010. This week, he has played two matches

:08:49.:08:55.

and has not has -- has not had his serve broken. He is a man mounting

:08:56.:09:04.

and his game will not be an easy match up for Stan. Not at all. Stan

:09:05.:09:12.

has reached the fourth round before but it takes him longer. Andy Murray

:09:13.:09:18.

comes on to a grass court and within an hour, he is feeling comfortable.

:09:19.:09:23.

Robert blew the same is true for buffering on a clay court. It would

:09:24.:09:33.

take me about a year! -- probably the same is true for Wawrinka on a

:09:34.:09:42.

clay court. This will be now tracking for him. He has come of age

:09:43.:09:47.

over the last two years, hasn't he? He is in the top five now. He is a

:09:48.:09:54.

Grand Slam winner. There is an aura about a Grand Slam winner. Not only

:09:55.:10:03.

did he lose at the French Open, he lost in four sets, losing the second

:10:04.:10:13.

to sets with out any game wins. He will be trying to get back into

:10:14.:10:19.

focus now, desperately needing some matches in order to get back into

:10:20.:10:24.

it. John, you have got some work to do. You will be back off to the

:10:25.:10:31.

commentary box now. John was just speaking about back -- Magnus

:10:32.:10:38.

Norman. We will be speaking to him and other coaches so if you have any

:10:39.:10:44.

questions, please contact us. Also with any questions or observations.

:10:45.:10:52.

Let us join Andrew Cotter now for some commentary.

:10:53.:10:58.

Three games all but so far from telling the whole story. Berdych has

:10:59.:11:04.

had seven break points. By contrast, the Berdych service

:11:05.:11:25.

games have been briefed to say the least. -- brief to say the least.

:11:26.:11:55.

Of course, Andy Murray on next against Radek Stepanek. If Berdych

:11:56.:12:05.

had taken his chances, he would be limbering up already because he has

:12:06.:12:09.

really dominated this match so far. He has just not taken the big point

:12:10.:12:10.

opportunities. So, a very familiar tale. A hold to

:12:11.:12:40.

love for Tomas Berdych in about a minute and a half. Mannarino is

:12:41.:12:48.

working a lot harder on his own serve. But you never know, if he

:12:49.:12:52.

continues to hang on in there, perhaps get to a tie-break, he might

:12:53.:13:03.

get there. The that comparison. For Mannarino, and he is doing a good

:13:04.:13:10.

job so far. He is hardly touching the ball in Berdych's service games.

:13:11.:13:17.

He needs to hang in our man on those service games, try not to get

:13:18.:13:22.

frustrated at the big serves, and keep believing that he will get a

:13:23.:13:27.

chance in one service game. Maybe in the tie-break where Berdych could

:13:28.:13:33.

give him some second serves. The trick for Mannarino is to keep the

:13:34.:13:36.

focus and the belief that he will get the chance. So far, he is

:13:37.:13:42.

hanging in there. He doesn't look like he will win the match, but he

:13:43.:13:49.

has not lost his serve yet full is not and he was very impressive in

:13:50.:13:57.

the first two rounds. He lost only three games in his second match.

:13:58.:14:05.

Again, you put that in context. This is the only time he has had

:14:06.:14:09.

back-to-back wins this year, so he is operating a couple of levels

:14:10.:14:14.

below Tomas Berdych chip. But he has been to the quarterfinal here

:14:15.:14:21.

before. He has had a good run at Wimbledon as well. He knows his way

:14:22.:14:25.

around grass court. It suits his game. He does not have a big serve,

:14:26.:14:31.

but the grass gives it the extra pace and he can swing out to be left

:14:32.:14:36.

with his serve. He knows how to play on this service -- service and

:14:37.:14:40.

Berdych knows he must put them away. That was called long but it was

:14:41.:15:03.

tight, very tight. It has caught the line. Quite a bit of it as well.

:15:04.:15:07.

They will replay that point. Mannarino did well there. He soaks

:15:08.:15:37.

up the pressure. Berdych hit some really good forehands but he punched

:15:38.:15:41.

it back, kept himself in the rally and eventually Berdych made an

:15:42.:15:43.

error. Well, the first time that Mannarino

:15:44.:16:27.

has been in the position of some, but on his serve. -- of some comfort

:16:28.:16:31.

on his serve. Just occasionally, Mannarino doesn't

:16:32.:17:07.

get the direction right on that second serve. Sometimes it floats in

:17:08.:17:11.

the middle of the box and he is in big trouble. He needs to be a bit

:17:12.:17:13.

more accurate sometimes. He is winning 50% of points on his

:17:14.:17:56.

second serve, so he must start landing his first serve in order to

:17:57.:18:00.

keep pressure up and Berdych. There we are. They hold and no break

:18:01.:18:17.

points therefore Mannarino. When you get to the latter stages of the set

:18:18.:18:25.

and you think you are in control, you can get a bit twitchy, the level

:18:26.:18:33.

drops for a minute, and you have to bounceback.

:18:34.:18:59.

A big bonus. Double fault and then a second service to have a go at will

:19:00.:19:27.

stop he probably feels like he is dreaming. Anna Reno has not seen

:19:28.:19:34.

many of these. -- Mannarino. There we go. This will test the nerve of

:19:35.:19:41.

Berdych. He has not lost a point when he has got his first serve in

:19:42.:19:45.

but he has not found one yet this game. We have seen this so many

:19:46.:19:55.

times before. 0-30. This is when the big servers normally get that first

:19:56.:20:00.

serving, when they need it. Another miss!

:20:01.:20:13.

He didn't do enough on that return. He is annoyed with himself as he

:20:14.:20:22.

knows he had a chance. It was a decent second serve but it was not

:20:23.:20:33.

one of his best, so he needed to take a chance on that.

:20:34.:20:56.

Suddenly, after a set where Mannarino has been clinging on for

:20:57.:21:05.

dear life, he has two break points and a chance to serve for the set.

:21:06.:21:28.

Oh, I'm lucky there. That could easily have just blip over onto the

:21:29.:21:38.

other side of the net. Neither of the players knew where that was

:21:39.:21:44.

going to go. Berdych was looking across at his players box and

:21:45.:21:48.

laughing a loss of relief. He still has to save another break point.

:21:49.:22:01.

He finally get his first serve in. I'm not saying much will be the last

:22:02.:22:10.

chance for Mannarino, but they will be few and far between him will stop

:22:11.:22:15.

--. A challenge instantly from

:22:16.:22:30.

Mannarino. He has probably done that to have a little bit of time to

:22:31.:22:37.

clear his head. Take a moment. Not one of the best challenges you will

:22:38.:22:38.

ever see. Well, after seeing the correct of

:22:39.:23:06.

the two break points, Berdych chick resumes normal service. Mannarino

:23:07.:23:13.

that has to look at that in a positive way. Even though he lost

:23:14.:23:24.

that game. He should have converted one of those break points but hit

:23:25.:23:28.

the net on the one that could have gone his way. He has done his

:23:29.:23:33.

business well here in the first set to hang in there. This was the point

:23:34.:23:40.

at 1540 where he went for the right shot, but neither player knew if

:23:41.:23:45.

that was going to go over or not. Berdych knew he couldn't get to it

:23:46.:23:56.

if it went over. He got lucky. So close. We would be serving for the

:23:57.:24:00.

set now full. That is what this game is all about. Very frustrating just

:24:01.:24:06.

for that second and he ended up losing the game. Again, it does not

:24:07.:24:13.

matter who is leading for big periods. It is to do with those big

:24:14.:24:20.

moments. He is going to have to come out here and hold serve to stay in

:24:21.:24:22.

the set. Judged by what has gone before,

:24:23.:24:38.

Berdych may well get his chance. Andy Murray against Radek Stepanek

:24:39.:24:39.

to come after this match. It fills up here at Centre Court

:24:40.:24:56.

here at Queen's Club perhaps in anticipation of that. A very

:24:57.:24:58.

interesting match here at the moment. Mannarino serving to stay in

:24:59.:25:01.

this match. The ball girl at the back of the

:25:02.:26:23.

court did not pick the ball up quickly enough and Mannarino was

:26:24.:26:26.

distracted in the middle of his serve. That's why he asked to stop

:26:27.:26:28.

but Berdych did not realise that. You can feel the difference that he

:26:29.:26:56.

is beginning to find his first serve a bit more. His second serve is far

:26:57.:27:01.

too gentle. The width Berdych's ground strokes full

:27:02.:27:37.

So, Mannarino seems to be getting stronger as the set goes on. He did

:27:38.:27:48.

a good job fair at the disappointment of not breaking

:27:49.:27:51.

serve. He could have been thinking about that but he got right back to

:27:52.:27:54.

business and very good hold of serve. Using the body serve a bit

:27:55.:28:01.

more now which is very good if you are playing someone who is as tall

:28:02.:28:05.

as Berdych. Finds it forgot to get out of the way of the ball quickly.

:28:06.:28:07.

Get jammed. -- gets jammed. He can't afford those. Getting off

:28:08.:29:26.

four AV second serves now. -- for a few second serves now. Mannarino

:29:27.:29:29.

trying to make Berdych pay. That is the only hope Mannarino has

:29:30.:30:30.

to claw his way into the tie-break and see what happens there. We

:30:31.:30:40.

talked about the big four in tennis and Berdych has always been just

:30:41.:30:45.

outside. He was sixth at the moment. He has been there or thereabouts

:30:46.:30:50.

just doesn't quite have the whatever it is to get into the main four. It

:30:51.:30:58.

is, he has been in one Grand Slam final. So he has still had a great

:30:59.:31:05.

career, but he is in an era where there is some multiple Grand Slam

:31:06.:31:10.

winners ahead of him who are not going away. And it is tough to break

:31:11.:31:17.

through. Stan Wawrinka did it, but it is not easy. If anything it is

:31:18.:31:23.

his defensive abilities. When you come against the top four, these

:31:24.:31:29.

days the top players are such great athletes in terms they can attack

:31:30.:31:34.

and they're strong, but they defend so well. Sometimes Berdych's

:31:35.:31:38.

movement just at that top level, he doesn't move badly for a big man,

:31:39.:31:43.

but he just doesn't dig those balls back as much as the top players do.

:31:44.:31:47.

They're in the rallies all the time. He has to sort of hit more winners

:31:48.:31:53.

than they do to beat them and it is tough over five sets to do that at

:31:54.:31:57.

this real top level. But he has been close and he has been in one final

:31:58.:32:01.

of a slam and there is no reason why he can't do it again.

:32:02.:32:25.

It was 2010 he had that great run to the final of Wimbledon.

:32:26.:33:12.

Oh! Despite the slip he got there and once there able the finish it

:33:13.:33:21.

off beautifully. I may have changed my mind about his movement after

:33:22.:33:27.

this point. He slipped still managed to push forward. That was great. The

:33:28.:33:33.

first three steps on the spring were impressive and then managed to

:33:34.:33:37.

follow that up with that backhand down the line. Great shot.

:33:38.:34:53.

Oh! What a call. It was a late call from the line judge then and an

:34:54.:35:04.

overrule from the umpire. This is all rather foreLorne. There is

:35:05.:35:08.

nothing he can do but replay the point. Berdych was in a good

:35:09.:35:14.

position in this rally. He is not happy, because now his opponent gets

:35:15.:35:20.

a first serve. Let's look on Hawk-Eye. Mannarino was backed into

:35:21.:35:25.

a corner there. If Mannarino manages to win this

:35:26.:36:33.

first set, it will seem like a long, long time.

:36:34.:37:00.

Just too strong. Mannarino hanging in there. Just trying to get one

:37:01.:37:08.

more back in an awkward position. But Berdych so quick with these

:37:09.:37:13.

ground strokes. Just kept on powering through and this one, very

:37:14.:37:18.

good balance. Got himself set and very good hip rotation.

:37:19.:37:32.

You can't fault Mannarino for the way he has played the points under

:37:33.:37:38.

pressure and there has been a lot of pressure in this first set.

:37:39.:38:09.

A challenge immediately from Mannarino. I think this caught the

:38:10.:38:14.

line. He could have got this, couldn't he? He was in a position to

:38:15.:38:17.

get this back. He thought it was going out. He absolutely left it.

:38:18.:38:21.

Well in. That sounded like two oxes there!

:38:22.:38:51.

Not sure if that ball checked a bit. He looked like he was there. He

:38:52.:38:55.

didn't get much of the strings on that return.

:38:56.:39:08.

Oh! Are you kidding? He had given up the ghost a couple of strokes before

:39:09.:39:19.

that. Outstanding point. He slipped again here and then somehow regained

:39:20.:39:23.

his balance. Looked like he wasn't going to get this, but not only got

:39:24.:39:28.

it he had the wedge on that one, directed it across the court. What a

:39:29.:39:31.

shot! UMPIRE: Mr Berdych challenging the

:39:32.:40:28.

call on the right. So he overruled. He call it in and Berdych challenged

:40:29.:40:33.

and Berdych is right. And he is shaking his head now. Ove, the

:40:34.:40:37.

injustice of it all! Finally he gets another chance in

:40:38.:41:09.

this nine-minute long game. There was a similar length game earlier in

:41:10.:41:14.

the set. A set which may be about to finish in favour of Tomas Berdych.

:41:15.:41:24.

What a good serve that was out wide. He has gone to that a few times.

:41:25.:41:33.

That was about the best one he has hit.

:41:34.:42:27.

The longest rally and the longest game ends with a wide from Mannarino

:42:28.:42:39.

and another chance. A fabulous point.

:42:40.:42:56.

Chattering away to himself! Remembering the start of the game he

:42:57.:43:16.

was a young man. You have got to give credit to

:43:17.:43:31.

Mannarino. It is amazing how well he has played these pressure points.

:43:32.:43:59.

Extraordinary and Mannarino will have his chance in the tie-break

:44:00.:44:05.

after that remarkable game of near enough 12 minutes. It is into the

:44:06.:44:15.

tie-break we go. So many talking points from that game. We don't have

:44:16.:44:22.

time to pour over them just now. What Berdych must be thinking.

:44:23.:45:17.

He did well to get down from his great height to cover these ground

:45:18.:45:34.

strokes. He faced a tie-breaker in his first match against James

:45:35.:45:40.

Duckworth and came through in three sets there, the Australian

:45:41.:45:41.

qualifier. Oh! Oh, that was a bit of an ugly

:45:42.:46:03.

point there. And expensive. Well, it could be. They're all hesitating

:46:04.:46:05.

with the net caughts there. A very close second serve there. I'm

:46:06.:47:46.

surprised he didn't go for at least an attempt there. It was very close.

:47:47.:47:51.

It may have clipped the edge of the line. He should have challenged.

:47:52.:47:57.

That is what I thought. UMPIRE: Mr Berdych challenging the

:47:58.:48:15.

call on the left baseline. The ball was called out. Berdych challenges.

:48:16.:48:33.

Oh! Berdych is giving everyone the Paddington hard stare at the moment.

:48:34.:48:37.

We know he got away with a double fault just a moment ago! It's not

:48:38.:48:45.

been a good day so far for some of the calling. There have been four or

:48:46.:48:47.

five mistakes. That was bad shot selection from

:48:48.:49:22.

Mannarino to come in on that ball. Too far back from the laceline --

:49:23.:49:27.

baseline to come in on that one. He may be feeling a sense of injustice

:49:28.:49:32.

and wondered what happened in the main body of the set. But he is in

:49:33.:49:38.

control of this tie-break now. You can see there, you have got to be

:49:39.:49:40.

volleying closer into the net than that.

:49:41.:50:05.

Again he stared down plenty of big points in the set proper and came

:50:06.:50:15.

back from 0-40 down a couple of times.

:50:16.:50:23.

A couple of big serves from Berdych will do it. Throwing into the sun

:50:24.:50:27.

end. He is nearly there now. Surely he

:50:28.:50:57.

can't waste the set points he now has.

:50:58.:51:07.

Eventually a roar and an ace and what a set, what a struggle for

:51:08.:51:16.

Tomas Berdych, but he does take the first set against Adrian Mannarino.

:51:17.:51:21.

On a tie-break, Adrian Mannarino fought hard, but the number do seed

:51:22.:51:31.

has the opening set. That man there is common wealth gold medallist. He

:51:32.:51:40.

gets there! Thorpe is getting a standing ovation. He never

:51:41.:51:47.

faultered. He has done it. Common wealth gold! Here comes the

:51:48.:51:50.

challenge! Oh, it was so close! Another big vent this summer, the

:51:51.:52:15.

Commonwealth Games, all eyes on Glasgow from July 23rd. New shirt,

:52:16.:52:24.

new set, forget about all that nastiness of the first set. He was

:52:25.:52:29.

wasteful with his break, 11 break points. He thought he might have won

:52:30.:52:34.

that first set half an hour ago. It took an hour and 10 minutes for that

:52:35.:52:39.

set. Adrian Mannarino, was that his big chance there. You can't see

:52:40.:52:42.

Berdych being so wasteful in the second. You would have thought so.

:52:43.:52:47.

Mannarino, you have to hand it to him, he did play a lot of those

:52:48.:52:51.

break points well. But Berdych should have sown that set up a lot

:52:52.:52:56.

quicker than he did. But if he won the final point. So he is up a set.

:52:57.:53:02.

And you know he will be happy, very happy. Mannarino has got to focus

:53:03.:53:07.

back and he almost won that set really. He was unlucky not to be

:53:08.:53:12.

serving for the set ironically enough, although Berdych was by far

:53:13.:53:15.

the better player in terms of chances and break points. But

:53:16.:53:20.

Mannarino should have served for the set there. He was unlucky with that

:53:21.:53:25.

net caught. It could have gone either way. A lot of people have

:53:26.:53:31.

timed their run to get here, just as Murray is starting his match with

:53:32.:53:36.

Stepanek. And they're watching this and why not, it is a very

:53:37.:53:44.

interesting match. Wawrinka is the number one seat. Any seat. It is a

:53:45.:54:03.

huge stand off to the right. A lot of people still coming in. Just

:54:04.:54:13.

having to wait. Any second now. Sit on a small child if you have to!

:54:14.:54:30.

Just waiting for a late Kommers behind Tomas Berdych. Actually

:54:31.:54:37.

they're just standing up having a chat. When you're ready!

:54:38.:55:22.

A wonderful - cracking sufficient to start this second set. What a

:55:23.:55:28.

magnificent forehand that was. He has been pulled out wide three times

:55:29.:55:33.

already. This one, he just hits it around the outside of the ball and

:55:34.:55:36.

hooks it across court. A beautiful shot.

:55:37.:55:58.

Enjoying is himself a bit now here, Berdych. I think Mannarino is

:55:59.:56:06.

worried about running into the lines person on that last ball. It is a

:56:07.:56:17.

bit too close for comfort that. I care not for your troubles!

:56:18.:56:42.

That is good move: Didn't too much with that ball. Just got up to it

:56:43.:56:49.

nice and early and made sure he got it deep. So immediately at the start

:56:50.:56:57.

of second set Berdych is going to through what the torture of the

:56:58.:56:58.

first set of break points. Hasn't hi done well on the big

:56:59.:57:40.

points? Berdych did nothing wrong in that shot. A good high forehand up

:57:41.:57:43.

high. when was the last time Berdych has

:57:44.:58:26.

had 13 break points and not converted one?

:58:27.:58:41.

That was interesting on that serve from Mannarino, where he really

:58:42.:58:48.

through the -- threw the ball out very wide and Berdych moved early to

:58:49.:58:53.

make sure he cut that serve off. Before it got him out too wide and

:58:54.:58:54.

he could get into the rally. It is the same story so far as the

:58:55.:59:24.

first set. from Mannarino. The vast majority of

:59:25.:01:16.

break points serves, he has been swinging out wide and there, he

:01:17.:01:22.

changed it up, kicking it out to the middle and Berdych went the wrong

:01:23.:01:23.

way. That could have been nasty. It is

:01:24.:02:07.

that area about four or five feet from the back of the court. It

:02:08.:02:09.

always seems to cause the problems. There have been too many of those.

:02:10.:02:51.

Another lengthy game in the Mannarino serve. -- on the Mannarino

:02:52.:03:21.

a game, that looked close there. He looked at his coach there. His coach

:03:22.:03:34.

said it was good but it was very close.

:03:35.:03:41.

A big chance there. That is remarkable. 15 and counting. That

:03:42.:04:14.

break point was in Berdych's hands. That was a very comfortable forehand

:04:15.:04:17.

he had there and that was a poor shot on break point.

:04:18.:04:46.

He still can't quite get across the line.

:04:47.:04:58.

Just past the ten minute barrier but a distance to go. 12 minutes the

:04:59.:05:05.

record in this match so far. It is hard to keep going back to the

:05:06.:05:37.

well when you are constantly up against it. He is having to work.

:05:38.:06:09.

So, Adrian Mannarino holds another epic game.

:06:10.:06:22.

The Mannarino serve, he has been working very hard to hold his serve

:06:23.:06:32.

the whole time. The Berdych serve by contrast has been almost

:06:33.:06:36.

untouchable. He has won every single point on the first serve. We will

:06:37.:06:46.

see how he does in this service game full. They are ready for that now

:06:47.:06:56.

but the spectators were coming in and out. The umpire had a strict

:06:57.:07:01.

word. A tussle in the first game of the second set.

:07:02.:07:47.

ten minutes? Why bother with the body serve when you can serve like

:07:48.:07:54.

that down the line. He is enjoying himself it, the Frenchman. He is

:07:55.:08:00.

having a nice little five yard walk to the next service box.

:08:01.:08:14.

Oh! I want to know if that was quicker than Andy Murray's 38 second

:08:15.:08:26.

service game yesterday. We have had a 12 minute and an 11 minute service

:08:27.:08:36.

game from Mannarino. But Berdych just powering through them.

:08:37.:08:59.

Apparently that service game was one minute and two seconds. Sluggish.

:09:00.:09:58.

Someone out there will know what the quickest service game ever was. If

:09:59.:10:08.

you do know, please let us know. Sampras used to romp through them.

:10:09.:10:15.

There were a few of them. Goran Ivanisevic as well and Richard

:10:16.:10:16.

Krajicek. He is thinking, I once saw a second

:10:17.:10:34.

-- a 17 second service game. Perhaps I dreamt it.

:10:35.:10:57.

a man as large as he is. It is. He has moved well today. I thought he

:10:58.:11:04.

had lost this point but he moved a fraction too soon that, left the gap

:11:05.:11:06.

open. Break point. Berdych is baffled by this. 16 break

:11:07.:11:33.

points I have seen. Here we go again. I would think he is going to

:11:34.:11:43.

swing this one wide. He went down the middle last time. Berdych has

:11:44.:11:49.

been hanging over that site. Oh, he has gone back down the middle again.

:11:50.:11:58.

He still loses the point. That is tremendous stuff from Mannarino. You

:11:59.:12:02.

have two applaud him because he keeps responding to the break

:12:03.:12:03.

points. Andy Murray is looking at his watch

:12:04.:13:42.

somewhere. He is playing Radek Stepanek after this what should --

:13:43.:13:49.

match. He will have to start eating again. He will be starving hungry. I

:13:50.:13:53.

am sure he has some sushi somewhere. It is very warm out there. What a

:13:54.:14:11.

work-out for these men. Another opportunity. Bright, 18th

:14:12.:15:03.

time is a charm. This could be it. No one could survive more than 18

:15:04.:15:05.

break points against me! Eventually, finally, he celebrates

:15:06.:15:35.

as if he has won the mat shovels. He might be on his way to doing that

:15:36.:15:37.

now. -- is the 18th time we have seen a break

:15:38.:15:58.

point. That is a classic. That is unbelievable. Amazing. They had that

:15:59.:16:09.

famous line quite a few years ago now where someone went into the

:16:10.:16:18.

press conference after beating Jimmy Connors finally, after losing to him

:16:19.:16:26.

17 times and said, no one beats me 18 times in a row! A buzz now

:16:27.:16:33.

because you suspect Andy Murray will be coming quite soon. I cannot see

:16:34.:16:40.

Mannarino breaking. Although, with the way he has been playing, with

:16:41.:16:46.

his let call he had a chance to win the first serve -- first set. He has

:16:47.:16:55.

played well today. The vast majority of the shots have been played

:16:56.:16:59.

unbelievably well. There were just two or three times where Berdych had

:17:00.:17:11.

the opportunity to finish things and lost it. I think this has thrown

:17:12.:17:17.

People's lunch plans. They were planning on a little lunch before

:17:18.:17:26.

the Murray game and things are taking longer than they thought. The

:17:27.:17:35.

winner of this will play either Kenny De Schepper or Feliciano

:17:36.:17:39.

Lopez. They are playing at the moment as well. Berdych, the number

:17:40.:17:45.

two seed, is in fine battle now because he won the first set and is

:17:46.:17:48.

a game up in this one. He had a few awkward spins to deal

:17:49.:18:51.

with, there, Berdych. He is a big man, but he spins well.

:18:52.:19:34.

I think that might have been just the fifth point that Mannarino has

:19:35.:19:37.

won on the Berdych serve. It is a hold for Thomas Berdych.

:19:38.:20:10.

They have only had one previous meeting, these two, on the clay in

:20:11.:20:18.

Nice and Berdych one comfortably there. I would like to say he has

:20:19.:20:22.

been comfortable here because he has sort of been in control, but not

:20:23.:20:24.

completely. It is those worrying moments towards

:20:25.:20:41.

the end of the first set where Mannarino had those two break

:20:42.:20:51.

points. Apart from. -- apart from that it has been good.

:20:52.:21:34.

Oh, there were some big forehands in that rally. He is dangerous when he

:21:35.:22:18.

gets swinging like this. This is just brutal power.

:22:19.:22:26.

So, two break points for Tomas Berdych. They are so easy now.

:22:27.:22:37.

Berdych has the double break in the second set. Getting rapidly towards

:22:38.:22:48.

the quarterfinals. It looks like this match may be over shortly and

:22:49.:22:53.

the next matchup is Radek Stepanek up against Andy Murray. Beautiful

:22:54.:23:02.

conditions once again at Queen's Club once again for the first

:23:03.:23:08.

appearance of Andy Murray. Five straight points from Murray. Breaks

:23:09.:23:12.

in the opening game. He is off to apply. So far, so comfortable for

:23:13.:23:18.

Andy Murray. Murray working hard in the London son. There it is. Good

:23:19.:23:25.

enough from Andy Murray. He uses through to the last 16. -- eases

:23:26.:23:36.

through. This has been a very interesting

:23:37.:23:39.

match. It certainly seems Berdych is heading for the three now. -- for

:23:40.:23:48.

victory now. Like you say, John, he has not played badly at all,

:23:49.:23:56.

Berdych, it is just the finishing off he struggled with. No, his serve

:23:57.:24:03.

is immaculate. His forehand is big. His movement has been very good. A

:24:04.:24:07.

couple of slips but he has recovered well. Fabulous drop shots. I think

:24:08.:24:15.

he will be very pleased with the way he has played. Just to be conversion

:24:16.:24:18.

of break points will be something he will not be happy about. Other than

:24:19.:24:20.

that, playing well. to get there. He almost got up there

:24:21.:25:27.

too early. Too much time to think. The others he has been at full

:25:28.:25:30.

stretch. Too many options. No need for that! It is always trick

:25:31.:27:04.

gri overhead backhand, but simple enough with the post of the court

:27:05.:27:10.

there. He wasn't at full stretch. It was a comfortable shot there. He

:27:11.:27:11.

just got the angles all wrong. He has got the double break up, but

:27:12.:27:48.

he has faced that rarity of break point here. Coming into this game he

:27:49.:27:57.

had concede only five points on serve.

:27:58.:28:25.

Just shows you this game is mental. I think Tomas Berdych, one foot was

:28:26.:28:37.

in the locker room. He thought the match was won. Exactly. He missed

:28:38.:28:42.

that and he got up quickly too the drop shot and should have put that

:28:43.:28:46.

away. He had an easy backhand smash. He should have put that away. His

:28:47.:28:52.

mind wandered a wit and -- bit and you can't do that.

:28:53.:30:28.

they are just both inside that. -- between Serbs

:30:29.:31:48.

For once, it was a service game where he was looking at ease.

:31:49.:32:58.

A hold for men Adrian Mannarino. Tomas Berdych has made this his

:32:59.:33:28.

usual run-up. Different players have different way of doing things. Novak

:33:29.:33:58.

Djokovic, he has gone to ride -- Ibiza. It is what you feel

:33:59.:34:03.

comfortable doing. He has played a lot of matches.

:34:04.:34:07.

Would like to do well here, but is not the end of the world. Tomas

:34:08.:34:15.

Berdych should get through this match and get a few more matches

:34:16.:34:19.

under his belt on grass, a week off afterwards. Good preparation. The

:34:20.:34:25.

court is in such good shape. Hard to believe you will play as

:34:26.:34:44.

poor a game as he did in his last service game, very casual.

:34:45.:34:51.

Once set up, 4-3. Could return. Took that really

:34:52.:35:16.

early. Thomas Burdick could not react at all. It was back at his

:35:17.:35:17.

feet. Really had an opportunity in that

:35:18.:36:15.

rally. Did not get up to the backend quick enough and then retreated to

:36:16.:36:22.

the baseline. Now he is in a bit of trouble.

:36:23.:36:35.

A late call. Very late.

:36:36.:36:45.

The Frenchman thinks it is in, he is already walking across.

:36:46.:36:51.

It was good. He was not going to challenge if the call had not come,

:36:52.:37:04.

Mannarino knew it was good. Not easy on grass. No marks left,

:37:05.:37:14.

and it is hot, very hot. That was an instant challenge! Was

:37:15.:37:29.

it wide? It was. The crowd are beginning to get into it. Just.

:37:30.:37:40.

Now he is thinking about! Almost another challenge!

:37:41.:37:49.

I think that was quite long. Good return by Mannarino but still

:37:50.:38:10.

Tomas Berdych holds his serve. The end is coming perhaps, unless

:38:11.:38:22.

Mannarino Ken stage and -- can stage and escape act. Serving to stay in

:38:23.:38:30.

the match. Some cracking points in this match.

:38:31.:39:23.

It is trusting towards a finish. -- drifting.

:39:24.:39:47.

That serve worldwide has brought him some success. Unless you go after a

:39:48.:39:56.

very early you have no chance. Two hours is nearly upon us.

:39:57.:40:46.

Just a couple of sets. And Mannarino still just one break adrift. Berdych

:40:47.:40:59.

will need to serve for it. You might look at the result afterward and

:41:00.:41:02.

think, that was straightforward for Berdych.

:41:03.:41:11.

But Mannarino has done well. He is compact and has a nasty serve. Gets

:41:12.:41:20.

a really good left hand angle out wide. He absorbs pace very well.

:41:21.:41:30.

But he has never beaten a top ten player in the world. Nine attempts.

:41:31.:41:38.

And this has been his best tournament of the year, reaching the

:41:39.:41:46.

third round. We are always keeping an eye on possible Wimbledon

:41:47.:41:48.

candidates and Tomas Berdych will be there or thereabouts. Quite a lot

:41:49.:41:58.

depends on the draw. All will be revealed in the not too distant

:41:59.:42:03.

future. At the moment she is the number six in the world. Finally, he

:42:04.:42:11.

will serve for a place in the quarterfinals.

:42:12.:42:33.

Adrian Mannarino is complaining that a few people are just settling into

:42:34.:42:37.

their seats. A tough shot to direct in from that

:42:38.:43:17.

position. You need to hit it down the middle and not go for an angle

:43:18.:43:19.

like that. Adrian Mannarino heading for the

:43:20.:44:09.

exit. Two hours, three minutes had laboured in the afternoon sun.

:44:10.:44:25.

Dunn, eventually, with a trademark backhand. What a work-out for Tomas

:44:26.:44:40.

Berdych, but safely through. Hard earned against Adrian Mannarino.

:44:41.:44:46.

Straight sets, but not in the least straightforward. Applause for the

:44:47.:44:56.

crowd, and for himself, as you move through to the quarterfinals.

:44:57.:45:02.

Yes, he will face either logos or Shepherd. -- Lopez. They are

:45:03.:45:20.

battling on Court Number One. Next up, Andy Murray, the defending

:45:21.:45:27.

champion. An impressive performance yesterday and he is on court against

:45:28.:45:31.

a tough opponent, 35-year-old Radek Stepanek. Then it is standard --

:45:32.:45:51.

Stanislav Wawrinka, and a late evening for Jo Wilfred Tsonga. That

:45:52.:45:56.

is what we are looking forward to, but Andy Murray is up next.

:45:57.:46:22.

The celebrities will hope to get better in the kitchen, and Murray

:46:23.:46:33.

will hope to get better on the grass courts. The crowd looking forward to

:46:34.:46:43.

seeing him. First, let's hear from Tomas Berdych.

:46:44.:46:48.

That was not straightforward, was it?

:46:49.:46:53.

Definitely not. My opponent played very well. He is a really tough one.

:46:54.:47:03.

His game is well set for grass courts. He gave 100% and made it

:47:04.:47:12.

hard for me to the end. You have come through very tough

:47:13.:47:18.

matches, is there an idea start to the grass court season? -- idea.

:47:19.:47:40.

It is more of a challenge, you need to bring a better game and face

:47:41.:47:47.

tough situations. At the French Open your shirt was

:47:48.:47:55.

like something out of 1967, flower power. Why have you gone so normal,

:47:56.:48:04.

here in London? This is a beautiful and very

:48:05.:48:12.

historic club. I don't want to be so flashy. But I have at least one...

:48:13.:48:19.

Can we have around applause for the boxes? -- boxers?

:48:20.:48:32.

But don't worry, the flowers will still come, not here in London, but

:48:33.:48:40.

there will be more flowers! He'll be back-court tomorrow. --

:48:41.:48:52.

back on court. Let's update you on events in Edgbaston:

:48:53.:49:03.

The defending champion, out. But Roger Federer, he is through. A bit

:49:04.:49:18.

of a struggle against his Portuguese opponent.

:49:19.:49:24.

Here is the top seed, Stanislav Wawrinka. We will hear from his

:49:25.:49:36.

coach, Magnus, about what it is like to coach a top player. He is on

:49:37.:49:45.

court later on. And this is interesting. Marin Cilic Getting

:49:46.:49:55.

ready with his doubles partner, a Brazilian, and they will be on

:49:56.:50:02.

opposing sides tonight when the World Cup kicks off! We will hear

:50:03.:50:16.

from both of them. Reflections on that, Peter? So many chances for

:50:17.:50:21.

Tomas Berdych. Only convert it of 19 break points.

:50:22.:50:41.

-- converted two. He was not as sharp as you would like him to be,

:50:42.:50:48.

but that will come. They have been serving lunch and now

:50:49.:50:53.

Andy Murray is coming on court. Everybody will be scurrying up. His

:50:54.:51:04.

coach, her second day in charge. But a tricky match, against Radek

:51:05.:51:07.

Stepanek. Obviously I enjoy coming back here.

:51:08.:51:22.

I have played some of my best tennis here and I got my first win on the

:51:23.:51:28.

tour here when I was 18 years old. I always enjoy coming back.

:51:29.:51:35.

It will be eight lunch for me to play him at such a great tournament,

:51:36.:51:48.

-- a challenge. I will give it my best.

:51:49.:51:58.

They net in 2005, a decade on, here they are in 2014. And I'm joined by

:51:59.:52:12.

somebody who watched that game. Yes, Andy was just breaking through

:52:13.:52:18.

into the professional ranks. Could you have imagined that he

:52:19.:52:21.

would have gone on to do what he has done?

:52:22.:52:27.

When you look promising juniors, you never really know what will happen.

:52:28.:52:32.

But if you look back at those results, 2005, what he did, there

:52:33.:52:36.

was a chance he would be on the tour. But no guarantees that he

:52:37.:52:43.

would do what he has done in the last few years, exceeded

:52:44.:52:49.

everybody's expectations. You must be delighted that so many

:52:50.:52:53.

British players have got wildcards this year. It certainly helps them

:52:54.:53:01.

financially. Yes, when everybody gets together on

:53:02.:53:05.

the committee, the All-England Club, thoughts go into it. The prize money

:53:06.:53:13.

is obviously big. But for the likes of Evans, Ward, it is important they

:53:14.:53:20.

get the opportunity. They have shown they can be top 100 players and

:53:21.:53:26.

raise their game. For the other guys, lower down the rankings, who

:53:27.:53:34.

rehear less about, Edmonds, Smith, -- we hear, it is really a chance

:53:35.:53:41.

for them to do something for the rest of the year.

:53:42.:53:49.

A Slovenian player saying he would like to be British for the Davis

:53:50.:53:56.

Cup. That has provoked a bit of a reaction, some players saying, you

:53:57.:53:59.

cannot come in and be British in the blink of an eye. But he has lived

:54:00.:54:06.

here five years. In many sports there is a cosmopolitan array

:54:07.:54:08.

representing countries. Your thoughts?

:54:09.:54:14.

There will be split opinions. The rules allow players to change

:54:15.:54:18.

nations within the rules and timelines. The first step for him,

:54:19.:54:25.

he has made a choice to live here and apply for citizenship, that is

:54:26.:54:31.

obviously a long road, we will cross the Davis Cup bridge when there is

:54:32.:54:35.

that option. But you would pick him?

:54:36.:54:40.

I am not in a position to say right now. It would be a discussion with

:54:41.:54:44.

everybody else and if they felt comfortable with it we would tackle

:54:45.:54:48.

them. What do you think of Andy Murray's

:54:49.:54:53.

performance? He is back on his best surface and

:54:54.:54:59.

looking calm and focused. He looks very comfortable.

:55:00.:55:05.

Quickly, finally, it is early days, but what are we to make at this

:55:06.:55:14.

stage of the coach appointment? Whenever he has changed coaches his

:55:15.:55:17.

results have improved on the back of it. She is a good person and was a

:55:18.:55:22.

great champion. It is a trial period and I hope it works out well for

:55:23.:55:28.

them, it is a good choice. I am sure that she was absolutely

:55:29.:55:32.

delighted with the way he started yesterday. In tremendous form, he

:55:33.:55:38.

must just keep raising the level throughout the week.

:55:39.:55:44.

He was very compact and did not appear as if anything was bothering

:55:45.:55:50.

him physically. He takes to dress like a dock to water. -- grass.

:55:51.:56:00.

Radek Stepanek has beaten great players. He might not have the legs

:56:01.:56:07.

anymore but he is certainly no pushover.

:56:08.:56:15.

And he will love this occasion. He has won Davis cups, played in

:56:16.:56:31.

deciding robbers. -- rubbers. A very smart tactician. Andy Murray will be

:56:32.:56:36.

favourite but if he is not at his best it could be awkward.

:56:37.:56:44.

If he does not serve well, Murray's return will be commending. --, and,

:56:45.:57:03.

he does not have a massive serve that will cause all sorts of

:57:04.:57:13.

problems. That is the problem he presents.

:57:14.:57:19.

Otherwise, straightforward. As far as it yesterday is concerned

:57:20.:57:24.

down the line from Andy was a thing of beauty.

:57:25.:57:39.

That to me is one of his mainstays. We saw glimpses of it yesterday.

:57:40.:57:48.

Very confident. The good grass court players, it does not take them long

:57:49.:57:58.

to adjust. He was clean hitting. It is just about fine tuning. And in

:57:59.:58:05.

terms of movement, no signs of problems?

:58:06.:58:13.

Exactly. He will be thrilled with the weather, allowing him to get out

:58:14.:58:25.

here, it is not conditions when you rule a hamstring or a groin. --

:58:26.:58:40.

pull. It should be straightforward but

:58:41.:58:47.

Radek Stepanek is dangerous. Over to our commentators. A busy

:58:48.:58:54.

afternoon. Yes, but finally Andy Murray and the

:58:55.:59:02.

Radek Stepanek are on court. Just about ready to get underway. They

:59:03.:59:07.

have played six times before, Murray has taken five. Stepanek with his

:59:08.:59:19.

victory back in 2005. That was the year Andy Murray came to prominence

:59:20.:59:27.

having just turned 18. Stepanek was the 14th seed at the time. Andy

:59:28.:59:42.

Murray went on and lost to Nalbandian in five sets, down to his

:59:43.:59:45.

stamina at the time, still just a boy. He said that recently he was

:59:46.:59:54.

still not physically at his best, even though he came through a couple

:59:55.:00:00.

of good five set matches, but what an athlete he is. As usual, his

:00:01.:00:14.

player box is full to bursting. Three significant women in his

:00:15.:00:30.

life. Judy is not here. And Centre Court is near enough fuel for this.

:00:31.:00:41.

-- full. Stepanek has been playing a lot of doubles. I wonder if Stepanek

:00:42.:01:08.

can trouble Andy Murray? C. -- let us see.

:01:09.:01:38.

Wow, OK, that is a statement of intent. A 96 mph forehand.

:01:39.:02:01.

Interesting that Stepanek was serving and volleying them. That is

:02:02.:02:09.

a good play. He will have do do that occasionally. He would not get away

:02:10.:02:11.

with doing it constantly. This surface just highlights Murray

:02:12.:02:48.

is back and more than any other. It is so solid. -- Marek -- Murray's

:02:49.:03:00.

backhand. She can play the slice, which is one of his best shot is

:03:01.:03:09.

really. These skidding action is accentuated by the grasscourt. He

:03:10.:03:15.

gained a lot from that. When he loads up on the two hander, it can

:03:16.:03:17.

be devastating. Murray is already looking strong.

:03:18.:03:47.

Such a good return of the ball. The first game, first break point. He

:03:48.:03:53.

was so alert after hitting that passing shot. He was ready for any

:03:54.:03:56.

shot, Stepanek. Again, Stepanek thought Murray would

:03:57.:04:30.

go down the line but Murray had other ideas. That last point

:04:31.:04:37.

illustrates the worry that Stepanek's camp must have for him

:04:38.:04:43.

here. Although he is a great athlete and solid with his follies, he does

:04:44.:04:50.

not stick the volleys very often. Against a lot of players, that would

:04:51.:04:54.

have been a commanding shot, but against a player who moves as well

:04:55.:05:00.

as Andy Murray, it is not enough. What an opener for Andy Murray,

:05:01.:05:02.

breaking in the first game. Stepanek parried the slice well that

:05:03.:06:13.

time. But I am not sure that the odds are that great that he will be

:06:14.:06:14.

able to do it time and again. That was better from Stepanek. A

:06:15.:06:52.

couple of nice forehands from Stepanek in this game.

:06:53.:07:38.

And untouchable 1-2 from Murray. When Murray can open up the court

:07:39.:07:49.

like that, the world is his oyster. Abe Abe right start from Andy Murray

:07:50.:08:54.

and then a couple of faults. A very slow second serve by his normal

:08:55.:09:00.

standards. The speed gun did not record it.

:09:01.:09:14.

That is great play from Radek Stepanek. It's that and we are all

:09:15.:09:26.

square again. Stepanek would like to follow this point up with more of

:09:27.:09:31.

the same. As you can see, he gets around the court so beautifully. He

:09:32.:09:44.

doesn't give Murray and easy time. A break apiece.

:09:45.:10:48.

Stepanek has hit the forehand approach shot as well as I have ever

:10:49.:10:54.

seen him do it. It really has been traffic, this one. That is a shot

:10:55.:11:00.

which can often go awry, but certainly not today. -- it really

:11:01.:11:03.

has been to refix. Stepanek was looking at the mark

:11:04.:11:38.

almost in disbelief. Nice plaything from Murray here. -- nice placing.

:11:39.:12:11.

Very sound overhead, both with the smash and the serve.

:12:12.:12:31.

He corrected himself and it was a winner. Apart from that one

:12:32.:12:39.

blistering return from Andy Murray, that was a very solid game indeed

:12:40.:12:47.

from Radek Stepanek. Exactly right. It just goes to show you that

:12:48.:12:51.

matches are not won on paper. You have to come out and finish the job

:12:52.:12:56.

and Radek Stepanek has ignored a lot of the people who thought, he

:12:57.:13:01.

doesn't quite have the firepower to combat Andy Murray. Stepanek has

:13:02.:13:10.

come out, established his old stall game -- old school game, and his

:13:11.:13:14.

grips really come out, established his old stall

:13:15.:13:15.

game -- old school game, are old school, he has a shake and grip, but

:13:16.:13:26.

gosh he has controlled it well. And a player of some calibre. He is

:13:27.:13:31.

still in the top 40s in the world aged 35. Part of a Davis Cup winning

:13:32.:13:37.

side last November. He won the decisive rapper -- rubber. That was

:13:38.:13:45.

in Belgrade. He likes the big occasion. He will enjoy playing

:13:46.:13:49.

here. He enjoys Queen's and to be a against Andy Murray. He has not

:13:50.:13:57.

dropped a set jet in his two previous matches, so he is still in

:13:58.:14:04.

fine fettle. Despite losing that first service game, he has looked

:14:05.:14:05.

very impressive. Andy Murray is just playing a bit of

:14:06.:14:26.

wall tennis. Right above a microphone!

:14:27.:14:38.

It does take a little bit of time for people to get in here. A huge

:14:39.:14:43.

crowd. Murray to serve. That was well worked. He is just

:14:44.:15:37.

carving him up. This Challenger, a step up from the previous round of

:15:38.:15:48.

Paul Henry Mathieu. Certainly in times of guile. That was a great

:15:49.:15:55.

play. As soon as he saw that Murray might hit a defensive shot, he moved

:15:56.:16:01.

inside the baseline and when the ball was a bit floaty, he came in

:16:02.:16:03.

and took it out of the air. Oh, that was a chance. Let's see how

:16:04.:16:26.

close that was. Oh, yes. Two can play that game. I

:16:27.:17:01.

think we might be in for some entertainment here. Do you now? I am

:17:02.:17:14.

often wrong, mind. Perhaps not this time.

:17:15.:17:25.

Murray holds but enough signs there to give Stepanek encouragement.

:17:26.:18:15.

You were talking beforehand about the Stepanek serve, because it is

:18:16.:18:20.

not massively powerful, but it can be quite a weapon. You are right. He

:18:21.:18:27.

does not hit it with a huge amount of power, but he places it so

:18:28.:18:28.

precisely. Oh, brilliant stuff! High quality

:18:29.:18:57.

play from both. Murray has such good anticipation.

:18:58.:19:14.

He C, OK, I am dead careful. Start running. He picked the overhead but

:19:15.:19:16.

could not time it. Too long, this time. That was a

:19:17.:19:52.

great response from Murray. Rather than trying to drive the ball off

:19:53.:19:55.

the drop shot, just dumped it over the net, forced Stepanek to hit that

:19:56.:20:00.

long volley of his ankles. A great knowledge of where to be on

:20:01.:20:52.

the court. Struck in his points very well. --/ chewing his points very

:20:53.:20:56.

well. A good hold for Stepanek again. And

:20:57.:22:08.

impressive start by Radek Stepanek. I have two say that. I didn't think

:22:09.:22:14.

he had much of a chance coming into this match. I didn't think he'd have

:22:15.:22:18.

the power off of the ground or the consistency to bother Murray from

:22:19.:22:23.

the back of the court, but Stepanek has really not put a foot wrong. He

:22:24.:22:28.

has been consistent from the back of the court. Whenever he is given an

:22:29.:22:33.

opportunity, he is taking short balls, coming into the net. Being

:22:34.:22:37.

very effective with the drop volleys. Talking about his doubles

:22:38.:22:48.

partnership, with his partner 51 next week, as long as you have got

:22:49.:22:55.

now is around the court, you can do it at a certain age playing doubles.

:22:56.:22:59.

They won the US Open title last year. Oh, yes. Stepanek is a great

:23:00.:23:07.

doubles player and his game and style of play is well suited to the

:23:08.:23:17.

doubles game. He serves very well. A compact return of serve. Consistent

:23:18.:23:28.

follies. And quickness. Still a very fit man. But, over five set, Andy

:23:29.:23:39.

Murray might have youth on his side. In the best of three set, Andy --

:23:40.:23:45.

Radek Stepanek has every chance here.

:23:46.:23:47.

Another great approach shot. Inch perfect.

:23:48.:24:50.

He has given Stepanek half an opening.

:24:51.:25:27.

That was a big opportunity. The court was there for him. One of the

:25:28.:25:33.

few forehands he has missed two days.

:25:34.:25:44.

You can see that Murray is grappling a little bit with the sun in the out

:25:45.:26:01.

parts of court. He obviously did a nice job of adapting to it full is

:26:02.:26:05.

not I don't think it will be an issue for much longer, as it lowers

:26:06.:26:08.

in the sky. The crowd are doing their bit. Never

:26:09.:26:49.

a raucous crowd here at Queen's, but supporting all the same. Did you say

:26:50.:26:58.

another raucous crowd? No, never a raucous crowd.

:26:59.:27:07.

Oh, that is fantastic from Murray. To get there, but then to pick the

:27:08.:27:32.

angle. I wonder if Stepanek was an disappointing -- anticipating the

:27:33.:27:39.

shot up the line here. I guess we won't see. Certainly a nicely played

:27:40.:27:48.

shot. He just didn't quite get the purchase of the grass. So, Murray

:27:49.:27:55.

holds. Here is the test for Stepanek. The

:27:56.:28:46.

top guys are used to playing with a huge amount of intensity for hours

:28:47.:28:52.

and hours. They do it every day. The lesser players do not last as long.

:28:53.:28:58.

Mentally, they do not have the same amount of stamina.

:28:59.:29:08.

Can Stepanek maintain the incredibly high level of focus, concentration,

:29:09.:29:14.

whatever he has come out with both. Can he keep that up for an extended

:29:15.:29:16.

period of time? A view more of those and we will see

:29:17.:29:39.

his first serve percentage rising. Those are long shoelaces. Double not

:29:40.:29:41.

around there. Justice on the loose ones from Andy

:29:42.:30:52.

Murray. Radek Stepanek moves on. Andy Murray is going for victory

:30:53.:31:01.

number 20 in a row on grass. Wimbledon, Queen's before that, he

:31:02.:31:12.

has not been beaten for some time. Although still some way behind the

:31:13.:31:26.

best, Federer was up there. But it is still impressive, his

:31:27.:31:32.

grass court form, and that will count for a lot.

:31:33.:31:38.

Everybody expects him to be here today, tomorrow, the day after, for

:31:39.:31:44.

them to watch. But that brings its own pressures. He is used to dealing

:31:45.:31:50.

with that. It will only increase as the defending champion.

:31:51.:31:59.

I think that he has dealt with those pressures for long enough that he's

:32:00.:32:08.

probably quite comfortable with it, it is just something he takes for

:32:09.:32:12.

granted, a part of doing business, a part of being successful.

:32:13.:32:19.

Amelie Mauresmo, the coach, a grass court appointment. Andy wants her to

:32:20.:32:28.

be there for a long time, but quite a commitment on a coach's Park, 25

:32:29.:32:35.

weeks per year was what his previous coach did, and a big commitment from

:32:36.:32:41.

her to say, I will be out onto a resume for a long time. -- on tour.

:32:42.:32:52.

Yes, the life you have developed and are comfortable with? Will it stop!

:32:53.:33:28.

Stepanek treating the Murray serve with disdain.

:33:29.:34:18.

Much better, and it has to be, because he is feeling the squeeze a

:34:19.:34:26.

little bit. Life is so much nicer when

:34:27.:34:28.
