Finals day at Queen's. You can feel the anticipation, the excitement,

:00:35.:00:44.

the tension. It's a reminder of the 127 years of history and of the

:00:45.:00:49.

tennis greats who have lifted this magnificent trophy.

:00:50.:01:01.

This afternoon two men with some unfinished business in this event go

:01:02.:01:12.

head-to-head. Croatia's Marin Cilic won this title

:01:13.:01:20.

in 2012, but was deprived at the winning moment. Five years on, will

:01:21.:01:31.

he experience that today? Spain's Feliciano Lopez was runner

:01:32.:01:36.

up here in 2014. Three years later, is the stage set for his redemption?

:01:37.:01:51.

Whose name will be etched on the cup - the Croat's or at 35 will the

:01:52.:02:00.

Spaniard become Queen's oldest champion. Will the dream come true?

:02:01.:02:06.

He's up against a man who looks like he's playing his best tennis ever.

:02:07.:02:10.

So, the final is set. It is Cilic against Lopez. If you look at the

:02:11.:02:15.

head-to-head, Cilic leads 5-2. They have only met twice on grass. Both

:02:16.:02:19.

went three sets. On one occasion here, Lopez had a match point. So

:02:20.:02:25.

evenly balanced going into the Aegon championship final today.

:02:26.:02:29.

And joining me here Peter and John. Peter, we looked here - they have

:02:30.:02:33.

been the form players, haven't they? Both look like they are playing the

:02:34.:02:39.

best tennis ever. Even Lopez? Both have lost their serve only once this

:02:40.:02:44.

week. Cilic, especially I think is, he's a real threat to win anything

:02:45.:02:47.

on this surface now. A service great. His forehand has become a

:02:48.:02:52.

great weapon. Very impressive. And John, you were calling the match

:02:53.:02:59.

last night when Lopez beat Dimitrov. How good was he in that third set?

:03:00.:03:07.

He was absolutely awesome. In the second set, his drop to 51%, which

:03:08.:03:12.

is a sign sometimes of tiredness not reaching up. In the third set up to

:03:13.:03:18.

62%. His serve was magnificent. His backhand slice, which was what I

:03:19.:03:22.

think won him the match, in my opinion, it's the best slice on

:03:23.:03:26.

grass in the world. He's got so much variation. He's

:03:27.:03:31.

approach shots, he kept going straight, deep into Dimitrov

:03:32.:03:34.

backhand. In the end, started missing passing shots. And we were

:03:35.:03:39.

worried about how tired he would be - because he's had three-set matches

:03:40.:03:44.

last week in Stuttgart. Here coming a match point down against Berdych.

:03:45.:03:48.

Played his best tennis towards the end of the match. At 35 he might be

:03:49.:03:53.

in the best shape of his life. It is incredible how low he gets down to

:03:54.:03:56.

the ball, which is so important on this surface and just how seemingly,

:03:57.:04:03.

when you think he's got to be tired, even emotionally, mentally he's got

:04:04.:04:08.

to be tired, and yet, none of it. He keeps coming. And it will be a brave

:04:09.:04:14.

guy to say he couldn't keep it going one more match. Absolutely because

:04:15.:04:18.

the motivation is there. This title is so important to both players.

:04:19.:04:22.

More so probably Lopez, having got so close. He had a match point

:04:23.:04:25.

against Dimitrov in the final. He dearly wants to win here. He does.

:04:26.:04:30.

He loves the event. He deserves to win this title in some ways because

:04:31.:04:34.

he's been at it for so long and been so close. I know it is an

:04:35.:04:38.

interesting thing from his camp, he pulled out of Eastbourne next week.

:04:39.:04:43.

He was loath to do that. He's had such success at Eastbourne and loves

:04:44.:04:47.

playing on grass. I think they genuinely believe his camp not only

:04:48.:04:52.

can he win here but do serious damage at Wimbledon and he needs a

:04:53.:04:55.

week off. I think they made the right decision. They have a full

:04:56.:04:59.

house here. They have taken their seats early. It will be a good

:05:00.:05:04.

final, a well-thought out final. Two grass court players who are playing

:05:05.:05:10.

at their best, and both know that they need to come out and start off

:05:11.:05:18.

quickly. Yes, so, right at the very start this match could be great. And

:05:19.:05:21.

coming out with the players, they are brothers and sisters, part of

:05:22.:05:31.

the August gone futures player -- of the Aegon futures players. They have

:05:32.:05:34.

both won national tournaments in their age group. This is a big

:05:35.:05:38.

moment. They will get a taste of what it is like to come out on a

:05:39.:05:43.

Centre Court. He's having a chat, making her nervous. It is a bit

:05:44.:05:49.

nervous. Everyone is looking forward to this match because we lost Murray

:05:50.:05:54.

and Wawrinka and Raonic. All of those going out so early on. But

:05:55.:05:58.

when you look at these two players with a match-up on grass, they are

:05:59.:06:01.

two of the best on grass around. Absolutely. Don't forget this man

:06:02.:06:06.

has won a Grand Slam title. Because people don't know him as well as the

:06:07.:06:12.

top ones because he's in an era where we have Djokovic, Murray and

:06:13.:06:16.

so on. He's one heck of a player. Both love this surface. They are

:06:17.:06:20.

both experts on it. They know how to play. I agree with what Peter said

:06:21.:06:24.

about the start, you better start quick. If you come out here and try

:06:25.:06:28.

and fill your way in, if you go down a break of serve against either one

:06:29.:06:32.

of these, the set is almost over because they are so brutal behind

:06:33.:06:36.

their first serves. Their serving percentages has been amazing. 91% of

:06:37.:06:43.

first serves in. And points won on the first serve. They've both got

:06:44.:06:48.

such a big weapon. It will be hard to break. It will be difficult to

:06:49.:06:55.

break. The overall for tie-breakers has to be around two here. We might

:06:56.:07:00.

see, maybe one, two, maybe even three tie-breaks because they are so

:07:01.:07:05.

dominant on serve. Interestingly, a nice little tip bit that I heard

:07:06.:07:12.

just a moment ago, only two active players have won more grass court

:07:13.:07:16.

matches than Feliciano Lopez. That's a pretty incredible stat. Roger

:07:17.:07:21.

Federer and Andy Murray. He's won more grass court matches than any

:07:22.:07:25.

other active player. He's admitting that he's probably in the best shape

:07:26.:07:30.

now. He had an injury earlier in the year and lost a lot of matches.

:07:31.:07:34.

Coming into form at the right time. I was talking to his agent an hour

:07:35.:07:38.

ago. We were saying that he wishes the rest of the year was on grass.

:07:39.:07:45.

Cilic looks so relaxed. He's been chatting with Stephanie, probably

:07:46.:07:54.

all about her tennis. Coming out for a big final most athletes want to

:07:55.:07:57.

get their game-face on. He looks like he's enjoying the occasion.

:07:58.:08:03.

Interestingly last night he was waiting to go and play doubles. It

:08:04.:08:07.

was threatening to rain. I asked him, are you going to move out on

:08:08.:08:11.

the outside court? Are you going to play... ? I don't know. He was so

:08:12.:08:16.

relaxed. It was like, I'll play when they tell me to play. I think he's

:08:17.:08:20.

in a good place right now. Oh, here we go.

:08:21.:08:23.

Throw it up! Feliciano Lopez has won the toss.

:08:24.:08:34.

So a lovely photo. That's something for the album for the Viera family.

:08:35.:08:44.

Well done to the children. I was talking earlier today, I said,

:08:45.:08:49.

your man is playing well. He said, I have got him coming forward, got him

:08:50.:08:53.

coming to the net. When you see him play it is almost to the baseline.

:08:54.:08:57.

That is what we picked up from the start. Anything after that first

:08:58.:09:01.

strike, you can see he's moving a foot to two feet inside the

:09:02.:09:04.

baseline. Anything short, he gobbles it up, smacks it with a forehand and

:09:05.:09:08.

comes in. You have to love the way he plays. So aggressive. Think when

:09:09.:09:15.

he was 16/17 his forehand was his weakness. Not any more. That is what

:09:16.:09:20.

I like. Two feet on the baseline, gives his opponent no time to breath

:09:21.:09:24.

and he's on to him. And the serve sets it up. The big serve and then

:09:25.:09:30.

he can move in. He knows that people can rarely attack... It is hard to

:09:31.:09:35.

believe the first six, seven years of his career all he did was hit a

:09:36.:09:38.

kicker, a heavy kicker, of course. When he started off a couple of

:09:39.:09:43.

years ago, Goran said, are you crazy? You've got a potentially huge

:09:44.:09:50.

weapon and you don't use it! He now uses it all the time. Let's hear

:09:51.:09:56.

what he had to say yesterday. He spoke to Russell Fuller.

:09:57.:09:59.

The last couple of months found consistency in my tennis, having

:10:00.:10:06.

good results. Very consistent playing high-level tennis week after

:10:07.:10:10.

week. That is what is paying off for me, especially this week. For me it

:10:11.:10:15.

would mean a lot if I could win it here again. 2012, something

:10:16.:10:23.

definitely positive. I got the title in the end. Not the way obviously

:10:24.:10:30.

what I wanted, but you know, back this year. Again third final over

:10:31.:10:37.

here in Queen's. Showing good form. Especially at this moment of the

:10:38.:10:42.

year. Going to enjoy the final and hopefully I can get the trophy

:10:43.:10:46.

again. You have had scraps with Feliciano over the years. Recently

:10:47.:10:50.

you have got the better of him in a few matches? In the French Open, we

:10:51.:10:54.

played a couple of weeks ago and here we have played a couple of

:10:55.:10:59.

times in Queen. It is tight matches, just slight differences in those

:11:00.:11:02.

ones. It will be definitely a tough one.

:11:03.:11:08.

Yes, expecting a tough one. Look at his stats, 20 aces, 27 in all. Fired

:11:09.:11:13.

47 winners yesterday. Most of them on his backhand. Big weapons, not

:11:14.:11:18.

just the serve. He's looked at his forehand. You look, that is his big

:11:19.:11:26.

go shot. You can see there, the semi-finals, obviously that was a

:11:27.:11:31.

tough match, but other than that, he's been dominant. He's so

:11:32.:11:35.

confident. He just backed up everything well. I like the way he

:11:36.:11:38.

volleys. I agree with Peter, I think a lot of credit has to go to Goran.

:11:39.:11:44.

He's not with him any more. I think he helped big time on his serve. At

:11:45.:11:55.

that stage even throw his serve was good. It is almost a perfect serve

:11:56.:12:03.

now. A couple of quotes in the paper today saying Goran has moved him

:12:04.:12:09.

ahead of Murray. Beautiful to watch such variety in

:12:10.:12:14.

his game. Now let's hear from Feliciano Lopez.

:12:15.:12:19.

I know how tough it is to get to the finals of such a great tournament

:12:20.:12:25.

like Queen's. I'm 35 years old, so I realise how difficult it is to get

:12:26.:12:28.

there. It is very emotional right now to me. Reaching the finals of

:12:29.:12:38.

Stuttgart last week, so it's everything that is happening for me

:12:39.:12:45.

right now, it's really amazing. I'm enjoying the moment so much. That's

:12:46.:12:51.

why I was pretty emotional. It's been a long way now. So many years

:12:52.:12:55.

playing tennis. Now I am so happy with everything that is happening. I

:12:56.:13:01.

try to enjoy this moment now because I know how difficult it is. And I'm

:13:02.:13:06.

healthy and still competitive, so I didn't expect it to be, I didn't

:13:07.:13:13.

expect to be in such good shape at my age, at 35 years old. So I feel

:13:14.:13:17.

very pleased. I have another chance to win this beautiful tournament.

:13:18.:13:21.

So, for me it is a gift already to be there.

:13:22.:13:24.

Between him and Roger Federer, I think 35 is the new 25. Talking of

:13:25.:13:34.

Federer. He took 53 minutes to beat Zverev. Both playing at their best.

:13:35.:13:39.

Each time he's played Cilic on the grass he's won the first set. You

:13:40.:13:43.

feel as though he will start well. When the body's tired you have to

:13:44.:13:48.

keep yourself motivated. That makes a lot of sense. I think Lopez has

:13:49.:13:54.

done such a great job of shutting out the people who say, well, you've

:13:55.:14:02.

been a pedestrian player or an also-ran for so many years and time

:14:03.:14:06.

to retire now. He's shut that out and that is why he's, first of all,

:14:07.:14:13.

able to be fit this long, but secondly, playing probably the best

:14:14.:14:18.

tennis of his life. It's, you know, credit to him that he's allowed

:14:19.:14:24.

himself to continue on at such a pace. And also he's just such a

:14:25.:14:30.

great competitor. He's proved that right through his career, but

:14:31.:14:33.

particularly the last couple of weeks. Two or three setters in

:14:34.:14:38.

Stuttgart, come from a break point down against Berdych earlier this

:14:39.:14:42.

week. It shows he's so competitive when the big points count. He

:14:43.:14:46.

certainly is. I thought his interview there, he was very humble

:14:47.:14:50.

about reaching the finals. At his age he doesn't know how much longer

:14:51.:14:55.

he's going to be in these type of events getting to the finals. If he

:14:56.:15:00.

is tired, which I am sure he is when he woke up this morning, he will go

:15:01.:15:05.

through the pain barrier. He doesn't know how much longer he'll be around

:15:06.:15:09.

at this level and it is a gift. I love his attitude.

:15:10.:15:17.

What is it going to do against Cilic, if Cilic is trying to rush?

:15:18.:15:24.

He needs to make a lot of first serveand if he can hold serve when a

:15:25.:15:31.

consistent basis, the pressure is off, he knows he will have a little

:15:32.:15:34.

time to work with it. If he is missing a lot of first serves, he

:15:35.:15:40.

will have to slice him out wide to try and approach as quickly as

:15:41.:15:44.

possible, perhaps on the Cilic backhand. You know, he has a lot of

:15:45.:15:48.

variety with his shots, but I'm not sure if he can actually ground

:15:49.:15:53.

stroke with Cilic over and it's dented period of time. You know, he

:15:54.:15:59.

has got to try to make the point is quick, I think. Just looking at

:16:00.:16:03.

those horrible dark cloud over the clubhouse, I hope we will not have a

:16:04.:16:07.

day like yesterday, the players scurrying on and off. We are all set

:16:08.:16:14.

for the final, Lopez won yesterday against Dimitrov, and in the final

:16:15.:16:18.

three years ago he had a match point and lost it against Cilic, four

:16:19.:16:22.

years ago a match point and lost it, maybe fate is in his favour. Cilic

:16:23.:16:27.

against Lopez, thank you, Peter, John Lloyd is on his way to join

:16:28.:16:29.

Andrew Castle. Don't you even mention those dark

:16:30.:16:38.

clouds, it says on my computer no chance of rain! It doesn't look like

:16:39.:16:43.

no chance, but we will see. The final of Queen's this year, Cilic

:16:44.:16:45.

versus Lopez. A good four, maybe five feet inside

:16:46.:17:59.

the baseline, relatively short reply from Lopez dispatched. The wind is

:18:00.:18:03.

left to right as you are looking, ten mph, swirly down at court

:18:04.:18:07.

surface. Slightly easier for the right-hander

:18:08.:18:26.

to serve from the far end on our main angle here. The Croatian camp,

:18:27.:18:41.

Jonas Bjorkman there in the black hat.

:18:42.:19:20.

That is a message right there. Retro-! Aide be serve a little bit

:19:21.:19:28.

short, this is what is going to happen - I am coming in. -- hit the

:19:29.:19:32.

serve a little bit short. Big kick-serve up to the Lopez

:19:33.:20:05.

forehand side, just one missed volley, the chip charge from Lopez,

:20:06.:20:10.

holds 230, both these players have just lost one service game, Cilic

:20:11.:20:15.

against Muller, Lopez against Dimitrov in the semifinals. If they

:20:16.:20:19.

had access to all the stats, and they do have access to the stats,

:20:20.:20:26.

Cilic first-served placement - first serve points won, he likes to go out

:20:27.:20:35.

wide a lot on the first serve. This is from Queen's, from this

:20:36.:20:41.

tournament, 96% of first serve points won out wide. These are the

:20:42.:20:44.

little things that coaches will notice. Small margins.

:20:45.:21:12.

Watching for how fluidly Feliciano Lopez moves today, four 3- set

:21:13.:21:25.

matches last week, two this week. That was a big serve, wasn't it? 137

:21:26.:22:28.

serve, that is adrenaline. Out wide. He can mix that in so easily with

:22:29.:22:32.

exactly the same ball toss, slide you down the middle on the deuce

:22:33.:22:37.

court, but on the ad it would take you into the crowd, so a big ask to

:22:38.:22:45.

break the Lopez serve. Parents flew in this morning.

:22:46.:22:48.

To watch Feliciano with this opportunity to win this prestigious

:22:49.:22:54.

title. He doesn't do that very often, serve

:22:55.:24:28.

and volley, but makes it up again. -- mix. Especially when you know

:24:29.:24:39.

that he is going to chip over it, you may get some high volleys to put

:24:40.:24:42.

away. Cilic 2-1, then, the 2012 champion

:24:43.:25:15.

here, but the biggest tournament he has ever won was the 2014 US Open,

:25:16.:25:21.

only four major championships a year, and that really does define a

:25:22.:25:23.

career. He beat Gilles Simon in the brutal

:25:24.:25:29.

fourth-round match, took ages, as a lot of Simon matches do, then

:25:30.:25:33.

Berdych, then Federer, then Nishikori in the final, who did not

:25:34.:25:37.

play his best tennis, but a genuine Grand Slam champion, and now working

:25:38.:25:42.

alongside Jonas Bjorkman, a former semifinalist at Wimbledon and the US

:25:43.:25:47.

Open in cell. Talking to him this morning about the opportunistic net

:25:48.:25:51.

rush as he wants to bring to the Cilic game, they are going to work

:25:52.:25:59.

together about 23 weeks a year, in Stockholm and in Zagreb. They want

:26:00.:26:02.

the ball toss in exactly the same place, not over the left-hand side

:26:03.:26:07.

very much, Bjorkman says, if you get it in the same place, a little bit

:26:08.:26:11.

further forward, you will be able to transition to the net quicker. He

:26:12.:26:16.

has looked the form walls. I thought Dimitrov would be favoured after the

:26:17.:26:19.

big names had gone out, but maybe I am wrong. -- he has looked the

:26:20.:26:28.

former horse. Dimitrov's backhand was exposed in the third set with

:26:29.:26:33.

Lopez, passing shots, errors when he was high up. Dimitrov just not

:26:34.:26:37.

dealing with that shot very well, it is something he will be working on

:26:38.:26:40.

in the next week before Wimbledon, that is for sure.

:26:41.:27:04.

It will be Feliciano Lopez Pons 16th Wimbledon.

:27:05.:27:29.

Oh, really?! I didn't think he had that shot! It looked straight over

:27:30.:27:38.

to his coach afterwards, is that OK, is that what we're doing?!

:27:39.:27:43.

Magnificent drop volley from that position.

:27:44.:28:26.

That is where he has done so well this week, anything at all sure that

:28:27.:28:34.

you can see he is already stepping into that one, take that ball on the

:28:35.:28:37.

rise, takes a few steps in. Long day ahead for Marin Cilic, he

:28:38.:29:05.

has got some doubles later on, he has got to finish a semifinal,

:29:06.:29:10.

playing with Matkowski, the Polish player, the first time they have

:29:11.:29:13.

played together against Jamie Murray and Bruno Soares, Murray and Soares

:29:14.:29:20.

are up in the final set, that could be heading to a tie-break.

:29:21.:29:27.

That is the semifinal, with Benneteau and Roger-Vasselin, the

:29:28.:29:29.

Wimbledon runners up, waiting in the final.

:29:30.:30:43.

Loves that serve. Slightly quicker action. Feels like

:30:44.:30:54.

he can repeat that motion all day long.

:30:55.:30:58.

Machine-like with that serve this week.

:30:59.:31:15.

Phenomenal service record. Both guys appear to have lost one service

:31:16.:31:23.

game. You can see why, just the first five games how dominant they

:31:24.:31:28.

are behind their serves. Even if you get the ball back, there's one point

:31:29.:31:33.

in the last Lopez serve that Cilic did so well. Got the ball back four

:31:34.:31:38.

feet to the baseline and Lopez smacked the forehand away. If you

:31:39.:31:42.

don't get the return back in the right place, it's done, anyway. The

:31:43.:31:48.

pace that these players have now, the back-up they have towards, when

:31:49.:31:55.

they have to back up their serve, the next shot and the first strike

:31:56.:32:05.

is so good. That's little Santiago sitting on

:32:06.:32:09.

his lap. That is his dad on the right-hand side. He owns a

:32:10.:32:12.

restaurant, all the players go, there it is in Kensington. They

:32:13.:32:16.

gather there, it is their informal clubhouse, if you like. Better not

:32:17.:32:21.

name it. Although I'm dying to. It is really good.

:32:22.:32:29.

They are playing a game. Probably just like Feliciano used to all

:32:30.:32:33.

those years ago. He's a bigger boy now though is our Feliciano!

:32:34.:32:44.

Just day in, day out, goes to work. Could easily have given away a

:32:45.:32:50.

couple of these matches this week after last week's efforts, but not a

:32:51.:32:52.

bit of it. See Cilic there getting up to that

:32:53.:33:06.

ball, trying to hold it as long as he could before hitting it into the

:33:07.:33:10.

side of the court he decides. He could have gone both ways, but he

:33:11.:33:15.

thought that he had Lopez, but Lopez just read this beautifully.

:33:16.:35:17.

9500 people here. One of the big changes at Queen's Club for this

:35:18.:35:24.

year's tournament, that the seating on the right-hand side, behind Cilic

:35:25.:35:31.

serving now. It's a huge stand to mirror the east stand, in fact even

:35:32.:35:33.

taller. Didn't bounce at all. Don't know

:35:34.:36:21.

whether that was because it hit the line because it had so much backspin

:36:22.:36:26.

on. Just hear the exertion that makes on

:36:27.:36:32.

these backhand slices. That one didn't come off at all.

:36:33.:37:13.

First time we see love 30 in this match.

:37:14.:37:51.

He helded that well. That was a very testing question. An examination of

:37:52.:38:03.

the backhand, wasn't it? It was. What a rally, both players here.

:38:04.:38:08.

Lopez trying to keep that ball deep, keeping it deep, finally gets the

:38:09.:38:12.

chance for a beautiful approach shot.

:38:13.:39:09.

Lovely adjustment with the hands, Lopez, to a difficult bounce. Just

:39:10.:39:17.

sort of shoved it to the forehand side and said, pass me if you can,

:39:18.:39:20.

and he couldn't. New tennis balls in the next game,

:39:21.:39:30.

Lopez wouldn't mind serving with those with a break of serve.

:39:31.:39:37.

Oh, now, hold on, there's a massive great mark, which we can actually

:39:38.:39:43.

see and I think he's taken a bit of the back end edge of the line,

:39:44.:39:47.

although it will be a challenge on Hawk-Eye. It's a perfect serve.

:39:48.:39:56.

That's what that is. That ball is going to be a white one

:39:57.:40:01.

now, not a yellow one any more. That's taken a couple of lines with

:40:02.:40:03.

it. So, if he challenges and he's right

:40:04.:41:07.

here, Lopez, that's fine. If he's not, it has to be a first serve,

:41:08.:41:12.

doesn't it? He's not right. First serve.

:41:13.:41:24.

Plenty of lines hit in that game. They've both come out and playing as

:41:25.:42:06.

they played all week. Just tidy, playing to the percentages. 0-30

:42:07.:42:12.

situation, producing great serves and producing great points. A tough

:42:13.:42:17.

match. This is what it is to be a professional.

:42:18.:42:24.

Just so sharp. 0-30 Lopez had, a fabulous approach shot. Cilic goes

:42:25.:42:28.

to hit that backhand pass, not much room to aim down-the-line. It was

:42:29.:42:34.

low and he hit it absolutely perfectly, otherwise he have been

:42:35.:42:38.

down 0-40. When you have confidence there's no hesitation on those

:42:39.:42:42.

shots. You think you'll make them. Through a loss of confidence those

:42:43.:42:48.

are the ones you hesitate on and you invariably miss.

:42:49.:42:57.

If you want to get in touch with us, please do. We will pick them up and

:42:58.:43:08.

observations if you are enjoying the tennis. If you're not, don't. So

:43:09.:43:17.

Wimbledon, just eight days ago. The chairman of the All-England Club

:43:18.:43:22.

and his wife, Jill, next door to him. A Yorkshire county player. He's

:43:23.:43:28.

got knees like yours, John, a bit. Are they hurting a bit? Poor chap! I

:43:29.:43:32.

wouldn't wish that on anybody! Another great Yorkshire sportsman in

:43:33.:43:44.

here today. You have to start off ten seconds

:43:45.:44:01.

before he hits the serve to yet that. Ridiculous. What an angle.

:44:02.:44:35.

Serious punch on these forehands from Lopez.

:44:36.:44:59.

Never quite in the top ten of the world, Feliciano Lopez. A high of

:45:00.:45:07.

number 12 a couple of years ago. Currently ranked at 32. On grass,

:45:08.:45:10.

top ten. They don't have different rankings

:45:11.:45:24.

for the different surfaces, but if they did, he would be better than

:45:25.:45:26.

32, for sure. Where was that angle from?! Short

:45:27.:45:53.

and off, off forehand up the court. He doesn't use that body serve very

:45:54.:46:52.

much, Cilic, but very effective there.

:46:53.:47:01.

Well, we have talked about how difficult it is to break serve,

:47:02.:47:19.

especially on a grass court, when players are in the form like this,

:47:20.:47:24.

but Lopez particularly, his serve has always been legendary. But just

:47:25.:47:29.

to sort of illustrate that, with the help of Hawk-Eye, down the left-hand

:47:30.:47:34.

side, the one down the middle coming in at 130 mph plus, the one out wide

:47:35.:47:40.

sliding, still 120 mph. Look at the distance that you have to cover when

:47:41.:47:44.

receiving another left-hand side, you have to rely on your instinct to

:47:45.:47:51.

go one way or the other, 6.8 metres. And this is impossible to do, like a

:47:52.:47:56.

well taken penalty, it is a good analogy, you cannot save it, so you

:47:57.:47:59.

have to wait for your opportunities and then take them if they present

:48:00.:48:03.

themselves. Unless you cheat one way or the other, but against Lopez that

:48:04.:48:08.

is difficult, because he is so accurate, he will pop its down the

:48:09.:48:13.

line you are not on. It is almost impossible, both players are so

:48:14.:48:17.

sharp in this match at the moment, but having said that, Lopez did have

:48:18.:48:24.

loved 30 on the Cilic serve, and only a brilliant passing shots saved

:48:25.:48:29.

him from love for deep. -- saved him from 0-40. They will both carry on

:48:30.:48:37.

thinking they can break, but it is so difficult.

:48:38.:48:46.

Need some dark glasses. Already got two wristbands from Lopez this week

:48:47.:48:51.

after wins. Oh yes, final length. And now 0-30

:48:52.:49:55.

opportunity the other way, against Lopez. He has had to defend two

:49:56.:50:01.

second serves in this game so far. And that is away, and now three

:50:02.:50:13.

break points, which are set points. And that is wide, he may or may not

:50:14.:50:50.

challenge, having a quick look, but he has lost his serve to love and

:50:51.:50:56.

the third set as well, Cilic is sticking around by his baseline, but

:50:57.:51:00.

I think it will be confirmed that Lopez hooked that one just wide,

:51:01.:51:07.

yeah, first set over in this Queen's Club final, 34 minutes, the first

:51:08.:51:12.

set to the Croatian. Peter, we see that so often, you

:51:13.:51:30.

have a chance on somebody else's serve, then it goes. It is a

:51:31.:51:37.

momentum thing, Lopez started so well, Cilic hit an amazing passing

:51:38.:51:46.

shot at 0-30, a couple of great serves to bail himself out of

:51:47.:51:49.

trouble. But then it switched, the Croatian taking the ball early,

:51:50.:51:53.

essentially just hitting winners, hitting winners constantly. That is

:51:54.:51:58.

one of the few unforced errors that Lopez has made in set. Poor game by

:51:59.:52:06.

Lopez standards. It probably was, and when the momentum shifts, it is

:52:07.:52:10.

a tough thing to come back. It just shows that the mental side of tennis

:52:11.:52:16.

is so important, it is frustrating for players, isn't it? It certainly

:52:17.:52:20.

is, and of course Lopez has played so many ebbing and flowing matches

:52:21.:52:25.

over his career that we have to assume that he will come out of the

:52:26.:52:31.

gates quickly again in set number two. Look at that, Cilic coming in

:52:32.:52:36.

more than Lopez, really trying to attack. Absolutely, and not so much

:52:37.:52:44.

the net points won, but the points that he has won on first shots after

:52:45.:52:49.

a serve or after a return, really aggressive right off the bad. And

:52:50.:52:56.

looking at unforced errors, Cilic playing so well, this has been the

:52:57.:53:00.

way right through the tournament, such high-quality tennis, not making

:53:01.:53:06.

that many errors. Absolutely right, hitting the ball hard, going for the

:53:07.:53:10.

lines, still making very few unforced errors, although his first

:53:11.:53:14.

serve percentage was only at 53. Other than that, it was about as

:53:15.:53:22.

good a set as Cilic can play. As you can see, he has left the court, but

:53:23.:53:27.

Lopez, he has just got to try and regroup, you have lost the first

:53:28.:53:31.

set, but you feel like you have been the better player. You have got to

:53:32.:53:36.

find a way to turn it around and not let any sort of mishap happened

:53:37.:53:40.

early in the second set. Absolutely right, and you have to remember that

:53:41.:53:46.

he wants to push it out of his mind, body has to be fatigued, both and

:53:47.:53:53.

mentally. He is up against it now. Interesting, we were talking about

:53:54.:53:58.

the odds for Wimbledon, who is going to win, Federer, Nadal, they are

:53:59.:54:05.

split between who they think is the favourite, because a lot of people

:54:06.:54:08.

think Rafael Nadal is playing the best tennis, but they may change

:54:09.:54:15.

their minds when they see the results from Halle, he has swept

:54:16.:54:19.

aside Alexander Zverev in 53 minutes, one of the up and coming

:54:20.:54:26.

players, 6-1, 6-3. That is pretty impressive, Peter, isn't it? It is,

:54:27.:54:30.

spirit is dependent on his first serve, and Federer is so great at

:54:31.:54:36.

putting them back into play. Grassick is not yet Zverev's best

:54:37.:54:46.

surface, but it shows what an incredible talent he is after not

:54:47.:54:50.

playing for three four months. This man is playing the best grass court

:54:51.:54:56.

tennis he has ever played, the last few years he has been in the

:54:57.:55:00.

quarterfinals at Wimbledon. If he doesn't let this whole thing go to

:55:01.:55:04.

his head, he is in with a shout, he has got to be in with the first

:55:05.:55:08.

handful of favourites. We are ready for the second set, let's rejoin

:55:09.:55:19.

John and Andy. ANDREW CASTLE: Thank you for getting in touch using

:55:20.:55:23.

#bbctennis, someone saying it is like two fencers at work, lunch and

:55:24.:55:28.

thrust! Look at that, super Sunday outfit! Cilic bounces the ball even

:55:29.:55:33.

more times than Djokovic, I have noticed that. He does it quicker

:55:34.:55:40.

between points, quite a lot of urgency between points, and he

:55:41.:55:44.

doesn't go over the time. Daniel says, good to see different people

:55:45.:55:49.

in the final four change. In any other period, Cilic would probably

:55:50.:55:53.

have won more than one slam, probably right. Murray probably

:55:54.:55:59.

would have won more than three. Thank you for all of that, and onto

:56:00.:56:03.

the second set we go. Remember, Cilic likes to go out wide with his

:56:04.:56:07.

first ball, let's see if he does this time. Change-up.

:56:08.:56:30.

REFEREE: Mr Lopez is challenging the call.

:56:31.:57:32.

The call stands. Lopez keeps holding one of these shots will be out, but

:57:33.:57:40.

unfortunately for him, Cilic is finding those pesky white things.

:57:41.:57:48.

That is what the lines are put on the court for, to hit them.

:57:49.:58:06.

It was always said that if Bjorn Borg here today lying, he would

:58:07.:58:13.

consider it a mistake, because he would hit so far inside the line. If

:58:14.:58:21.

he actually went all the way to the line!

:58:22.:58:34.

Well, it was a weak notable for the big names losing pretty ill,

:58:35.:58:40.

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga lost in the second round against Muller, Stan

:58:41.:58:45.

Wawrinka, the French Open finalist, lost to Feliciano Lopez in the first

:58:46.:58:53.

round, 7-6, 7-5. Raonic lost against Kokkinakis, Murray lost to the

:58:54.:59:01.

Australian lucky loser, Jordan Thompson, 7-6, 6-2, on day two.

:59:02.:59:14.

Cilic feels like this is his time right now. He does.

:59:15.:00:10.

Change his tactic and serve-volleying, done it both times.

:00:11.:00:18.

Has to use it as a surprise tactic. If he does it too often Cilic just

:00:19.:00:20.

picks it. Well I don't think he has to, if he

:00:21.:00:34.

really looks at things, his tactics have been very good, Lopez. He just

:00:35.:00:39.

played one sloppy game. It wasn't because he needed to do Something

:00:40.:00:41.

Special to hold on to his serve. Almost a sign of a, a slight sign of

:00:42.:00:58.

panic, I've got to try something different. He played one game with

:00:59.:01:05.

his serve went off. Other than that he was pretty immaculate. I don't

:01:06.:01:09.

know why he's charging in all the time now.

:01:10.:01:53.

It is interesting there, he had a couple of chances. I think he was

:01:54.:02:00.

shellshocked after the passing shots that Cilic's been throwing at him.

:02:01.:02:04.

Normally Lopez would have been in on two of those backhands and chipped

:02:05.:02:08.

the ball and then moved backwards again.

:02:09.:02:25.

There was a chance. Off a 133 miles per hour serve.

:02:26.:03:00.

Flown all the way over from Spain this morning, just to see you lose,

:03:01.:03:07.

sonny boy. You keep holding in front of mum and dad.

:03:08.:03:18.

Wow! He's still in it. The crowd have really taken to him this week.

:03:19.:03:26.

They love him, anyway. He is just one point away against

:03:27.:03:39.

Dimitrov, a match point in the final here, back in 2014. One point away

:03:40.:03:41.

from winning. Justine margins on a grass court. So

:03:42.:03:52.

different from the preceding months on clay.

:03:53.:03:55.

Totally different. This transition to grass is difficult to make. These

:03:56.:04:01.

two have certainly made that. So, what will the players do ahead

:04:02.:05:50.

of Wimbledon for practise? Practise and working on technical parts of

:05:51.:05:55.

the game, not always necessary, is it? Keeping the engine going -

:05:56.:06:00.

fine-tuning. He's not playing Eastbourne now, is he? It depends

:06:01.:06:05.

who you are. Someone like Dimitrov will definitely spend some time

:06:06.:06:11.

working on his backhand, as an example. Of if you look at Lopez,

:06:12.:06:16.

whether he wins or loses this final, there's nothing wrong with his game,

:06:17.:06:21.

at all. And the same with Cilic. I think in Lopez's case and Cilic,

:06:22.:06:25.

they will definitely take a couple of days off, just to get the mind,

:06:26.:06:30.

just the exertion it puts on you mentally. Thaft they'll start to do

:06:31.:06:36.

some -- after that they'll start to do some drills. Start to ease off a

:06:37.:06:41.

bit. Do a couple of hard days. Certainly by Friday, maybe Saturday,

:06:42.:06:46.

then you would start to taper down, getting ready to play five sets, if

:06:47.:06:49.

necessary, on Monday and not overplay. It is all a question of

:06:50.:06:54.

timing. It's such a science these days, they know exactly how many

:06:55.:06:59.

calories to eat and this and that. And where their bodies should be and

:07:00.:07:04.

what sort of, you know, condition they should be at what stage. So

:07:05.:07:11.

they know all this. In our days it was eat French fries before you

:07:12.:07:17.

play, touch my toes or close to it. And if hungry, eat. Doesn't matter

:07:18.:07:25.

what it is! Really look at Lopez, what does he

:07:26.:07:31.

have to work on or change? They're ready to go.

:07:32.:07:49.

The qualifying starts. It's on the red button. Have a look at that.

:07:50.:08:00.

Join us. Tomorrow.

:08:01.:08:24.

Tsm this was the shot here, just nudged that one back with his

:08:25.:08:29.

backing. Got himself back into the middle of the court and takes over

:08:30.:08:32.

with the big forehand. That was nicely taken. Stops the

:08:33.:08:48.

ball from going into the bar. A bit of team work getting it back on the

:08:49.:08:51.

court. Smart work on the boundary there.

:08:52.:09:11.

Just holds his pose at the end of an ace.

:09:12.:09:21.

Carries himself around the court. Definitely slows down when he's won

:09:22.:09:30.

a point. The adoring gaze of the tennis fans

:09:31.:09:33.

on him. When you get this break... That's a

:09:34.:09:49.

start. A return like that, anything's

:09:50.:09:51.

possible. Still manages to hit that sort of

:09:52.:09:58.

return. Puffing his chest out. 0-15 is half

:09:59.:10:09.

a chance with these serves. Rolled that backhand very nicely.

:10:10.:10:51.

Not a great strength of Lopez's. With a target, he can hit it.

:10:52.:11:42.

Just a little bit conservative there, Lopez, on a couple of

:11:43.:11:48.

forehands early on in that rally. It is like he was thinking, I don't

:11:49.:11:54.

want to miss this, instead of going for the big shot, getting himself

:11:55.:11:57.

into a position where he could attack the net.

:11:58.:12:57.

Low ball. Lopez will challenge. Didn't see the Lopez challenge

:12:58.:13:08.

straightaway, but he did hold his hand up.

:13:09.:13:13.

Worth a look. Once again Cilic fighting back from

:13:14.:13:20.

a 0-30 situation. That was an important passage of

:13:21.:13:46.

play. 3-2 up. Every time he's had to win a

:13:47.:13:52.

sequence of points this tournament, he has, hasn't he, Cilic. It's the

:13:53.:13:57.

positive that's been given. His coach was one of the most positive

:13:58.:14:01.

players out there. To get to number four in the world, playing like he

:14:02.:14:05.

did was remarkable and he did it with great will power. Amazing

:14:06.:14:09.

hand-eye co-ordination. Great returns and volleys. He was a

:14:10.:14:19.

fabulous player. A fabulous singles play as well as doubles. One of the

:14:20.:14:25.

last to be top in the fields. I notice Cilic is playing doubles

:14:26.:14:30.

after this with Matkowski. A A lot of other players would,

:14:31.:14:35.

maybe after playing a round and still in the doubles have given it a

:14:36.:14:39.

gentle, don't really mind too much if I don't win this match, but not

:14:40.:14:43.

Cilic. He wants to win this one as well, the doubles. He was out there

:14:44.:14:50.

late when Lopez was as well, Lopez-Dimitrov, finished late due to

:14:51.:14:53.

some rain. Cilic was playing doubles at the same time. Could easily have

:14:54.:15:00.

given it away. Philippoussis won the doubles and

:15:01.:15:05.

singles here last time in 2007. The last time anybody did the double.

:15:06.:15:17.

The venerable old clubhouse, a multisports complex, Queen's Club,

:15:18.:15:22.

the first such club in the world, really, international football went

:15:23.:15:35.

to Wembley, rugby to Twickenham, the running to White City. They used to

:15:36.:15:39.

be a cinder track around the outside of Queen's Club.

:15:40.:15:58.

Five straight points now for Cilic, he has got the momentum here.

:15:59.:17:09.

Just wide! Superb. This is something that Cilic wouldn't have done, sneak

:17:10.:17:26.

in the way he did here. He would not have done that a year two ago, I

:17:27.:17:31.

don't think. That is an instinct, he knew exactly when the time was to

:17:32.:17:39.

make the charge into the net. Improved in that category.

:17:40.:18:06.

APPLAUSE UMPIRE: New balls, please.

:18:07.:18:23.

Tough hold. This week was notable for so big names going out early, I

:18:24.:18:27.

don't think the tennis other too much, we saw the arrival of Daniil

:18:28.:18:37.

Medvedev, and a Canadian left-hander, keep an eye on him when

:18:38.:18:40.

the draw comes out, wonderful tennis player. Also noticeable for some bad

:18:41.:18:46.

news this week with confirmation through a press conference that Dan

:18:47.:18:50.

Evans, the British number three, world number 50, the 27-year-old,

:18:51.:18:55.

tested positive for cocaine in April in Barcelona, so he awaits his fate.

:18:56.:19:01.

That could well be the end of his career. Certainly, there will be a

:19:02.:19:06.

ban announced later this year, just bringing you up to speed with that

:19:07.:19:08.

news. Remember when Djokovic had the yips

:19:09.:19:57.

on his serve? He would sometimes bounce it for 40 times, he got

:19:58.:20:03.

stuck, couldn't release it! Could be there until the beginning of next

:20:04.:20:09.

year's tournament! Ireland when Sergio Garcia, in golf, was

:20:10.:20:16.

re-gripping, couldn't get the club back to hit the thing. -- I remember

:20:17.:20:19.

when. Women's tennis on the BBC One from

:20:20.:21:02.

Eastbourne next week, we have got the red button qualifying event

:21:03.:21:06.

going on for the Championships which start on Monday week.

:21:07.:21:13.

Picking a winner in the women's championship is a little bit harder

:21:14.:21:17.

than it has been in the past, Serena Williams absent this year, expecting

:21:18.:21:21.

her first child, wishing her well. Petra Kvitova coming back, twice a

:21:22.:21:26.

champion, fantastic views, fending off a burglar at home over the

:21:27.:21:30.

Christmas and New Year period, she injured herself and needed surgery.

:21:31.:21:36.

She is back and OK. Not an easy thing to recover from. No, the

:21:37.:21:43.

trauma there, often the actual wound, someone coming into a place

:21:44.:21:47.

like that, having to defend yourself, unbelievable. I thought,

:21:48.:21:52.

from a tennis point, she wouldn't have enough tennis to make a serious

:21:53.:21:55.

challenge at Wimbledon, but playing so well this week, being in a final,

:21:56.:22:00.

that has changed, you would have to put her in the mix for Wimbledon in

:22:01.:22:06.

a week's time. About 15 women could make it this year, it is going to be

:22:07.:22:08.

fascinating. These Speaker of the House of

:22:09.:22:27.

Commons, John Bercow, he was a good player, number one seed in the under

:22:28.:22:33.

12 nationals in 1975! At Devonshire Park.

:22:34.:23:19.

Oh! What a serve.

:23:20.:24:22.

Robert George has been on Twitter, he says, does anyone else think

:24:23.:24:44.

Lopez looks like Bradley Cooper? Michael Bolton was always the

:24:45.:24:46.

similarity in the old days. Enjoying this final, deep in the

:24:47.:24:52.

second set 4-4. He loves to have a chat to his

:24:53.:27:00.

player's box, Feliciano Lopez, you could never accuse anybody of unfair

:27:01.:27:06.

coaching - he is the one doing the talking!

:27:07.:27:22.

Oh, I thought he had made that, a change of tactics are coming onto

:27:23.:27:30.

the forehand. He has certainly stayed away from that shot when it

:27:31.:27:31.

has come into the net. So Marin Cilic is one game away from

:27:32.:28:16.

winning this tournament again, as he did in 2012 in quite controversial

:28:17.:28:20.

circumstances, against David Nalbandian, you will remember.

:28:21.:28:25.

We might still have a decider. Let me show you what we have got coming

:28:26.:28:30.

up, marking your card for the tennis from Roehampton, we will be there

:28:31.:28:37.

with Mary Pierce, actually, from 11am, John. Thanks foretelling the!

:28:38.:28:43.

Red button on that. Eastbourne, down on the south coast. That coverage

:28:44.:28:53.

starts from two o'clock on BBC Two, so three hours of us, and then BBC

:28:54.:29:01.

Two. Now this will be fantastic, Sue Barker has been swanning around the

:29:02.:29:04.

world talking to some of the finest tennis players ever, I think she has

:29:05.:29:09.

enjoyed it, and we will enjoy that next Sunday, the day before

:29:10.:29:16.

Wimbledon on BBC One. And then some tennis tournament! Monday week, the

:29:17.:29:24.

Championships at Wimbledon, BBC TV, BBC Radio, online. We are going to

:29:25.:29:28.

have 13 great days of tennis. Andy Murray opening the programme on

:29:29.:29:42.

Centre Court, 1pm, the first day. UMPIRE: Thank you. Play.

:29:43.:30:42.

Loved the way he hit that backhand from the baseline. The forehand that

:30:43.:30:50.

came out of it at such a ferocious speed. Low on the knees, lobbed it

:30:51.:30:52.

back. No backswing. Well done, well done, Lopez. A long

:30:53.:31:20.

week. Excellent transtracing. And you're right, it 's like a

:31:21.:31:27.

batsman taking full delivery, wasn't it, that return. Holding the pose,

:31:28.:31:31.

relying on technique. Beautifully done.

:31:32.:32:02.

Could have got that as well. . He knew that as well. As soon as it

:32:03.:33:20.

went past him, I think he knew that would drop inside the line.

:33:21.:33:24.

Take that... No it's going out. Where did that line come from? I

:33:25.:33:29.

swear it was further to the left. No chance of any rain today, said

:33:30.:34:06.

the forecast. The clouds remaining high. They look a little bitumen

:34:07.:34:11.

facing, but no rain expected here today.

:34:12.:34:19.

Hello, that R 2D 2 thing. You are not supposed to point. It is

:34:20.:34:24.

wandering along its track, picking up all the photographers. I didn't

:34:25.:34:34.

see them in that particular section. Such valiant work with Marin Cilic.

:34:35.:34:39.

Can really see the effect that has been had, knowing the way he played.

:34:40.:34:43.

Working together since last August. All the players in town and settled

:34:44.:35:01.

in flats and houses around Wimbledon and nearby.

:35:02.:35:12.

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE That is just inside Feliciano is feeling a little

:35:13.:35:38.

bit tired. What a pick-me-up that was! What a lovely is exception for

:35:39.:35:41.

him. -- a lovely reception for him! The crowd know what Lopez has been

:35:42.:35:56.

through. It is part of the story, how much tennis he's played, 35

:35:57.:35:58.

years of age, bound to be hurting. It was a good effort recover from

:35:59.:37:44.

that far out wide. He keeps going over, eventually hitting the track

:37:45.:37:45.

and the tram line. A great effort. The crowds love tie-breaks. The

:37:46.:38:12.

first of seven, of course. Has not played a tie-break all week.

:38:13.:38:39.

Lopez certainly has. Lopez, 80% on his first serve in

:38:40.:39:20.

this set. 80%. Very close, this one.

:39:21.:39:44.

Definitely worth a challenge. That little outpour from the crowd,

:39:45.:40:13.

when he came out to serve 5-6. 4-1 w a couple of breaks, is a big

:40:14.:40:38.

lead. There's only one man in this

:40:39.:42:22.

breaker. People do like to these shoot out

:42:23.:42:44.

exchanges, don't they? Keep an eye out at the end of the year, where

:42:45.:42:50.

they play tie-breaks with 3-3. There are tie-break tens which work well

:42:51.:42:54.

as well. People like to see the end of sets, when it really comes down

:42:55.:42:55.

to it. Lopez, 5-1. And it is away.

:42:56.:44:43.

Lopez is refusing to lose again. Tremendous. I'm glad we have a

:44:44.:44:48.

decider. No disrespect to Marin Cilic, but it

:44:49.:44:52.

feels right that the tournament comes down to a single set somehow.

:44:53.:44:58.

He looks like he could get on a drip there, John.

:44:59.:45:06.

80% first service Pau Lopez. He is barely getting his racket on those

:45:07.:45:19.

serves. Wonderful start to the tie-breaker. It all started when he

:45:20.:45:29.

arrived after playing three, four set matches last week in Stuttgart.

:45:30.:45:36.

Last in the final to Pui. Cilic not exactly serving badly. No

:45:37.:45:50.

double faults from either player so far. Look at Lopez, twice as many

:45:51.:46:01.

unforced errors and Cilic had double the winners, but he still lost the

:46:02.:46:08.

set. Cilic, watching him, it is almost like he knows OK, I am

:46:09.:46:15.

playing great. He just served out of his mind, you will still think he

:46:16.:46:19.

can break in this set. He is not unduly worried. This guy keeps

:46:20.:46:26.

coming at you all the time and refuses to go away. Draped in the

:46:27.:46:38.

Spanish flag. This man here has been on four winning Davis Cup teams for

:46:39.:46:44.

Spain. As a 17-year-old was in a Davis Cup final. 25,000 people

:46:45.:46:49.

watching. Bearing in mind, this enormous structure here, 9500. The

:46:50.:47:00.

Americans were the visitors. Succumbed after a good fight.

:47:01.:47:05.

Experience both ends of the court. Enjoyed the decider.

:47:06.:48:28.

So good. Change of pace, couple of slices and then comes over the

:48:29.:48:41.

backhand with a lot of pace. Attacks beforehand. A lot of variation in

:48:42.:48:48.

his game. Joy to watch on this surface. What a passing shot.

:48:49.:49:03.

Unbelievable. Look how far wide he was. Ben that round the outside of

:49:04.:49:09.

the ball and curled it in. This is why people don't volley any more. So

:49:10.:49:19.

much more accurate, helped by the strings and the racket, of course.

:49:20.:49:47.

Unbelievable. It is going his way. It really is. Hit the slice, hit the

:49:48.:50:02.

line and doesn't bounce. Cilic is going really? Dominating the rally.

:50:03.:50:20.

Has he made a Challenger, Lopez? He has been wrong a lot. He had a bad

:50:21.:50:33.

run going in the second set. That is one thing he can work on in his

:50:34.:50:36.

game, challenges. Did you see that? The ball went up

:50:37.:51:27.

in the air. Jonas Bjorkman could have caught that, but he left it to

:51:28.:51:34.

let the man next to him catch it. And he missed it. He used to have

:51:35.:51:39.

the celebration at the end where he would grab his toe, it was a real

:51:40.:51:48.

hamstring structure. I thought he had cramp when he did that first

:51:49.:51:52.

time. Then I realise no, he's just flexible. The planting at Queen's

:51:53.:51:58.

Club has been lovely. It has been noted. Wait until you see Wimbledon.

:51:59.:52:12.

It is gorgeous. Donor who does it here, but Martin Faulkner does the

:52:13.:52:15.

planting at Wimbledon. -- don't know.

:52:16.:52:37.

The way he hit that valley, Cilic. There was no messing around with

:52:38.:52:47.

this. Not that easy, the way he punched that one out. Didn't get it

:52:48.:52:52.

as wide as he would like necessary but has a really good technique on

:52:53.:52:54.

that forehand volley. 28 outdoor courts here. 12 grass

:52:55.:55:08.

courts, ten indoor. Largely being used for hospitality. Couple of real

:55:09.:55:14.

tennis courts as well, free squash courts. All eyes on this 9500 seat

:55:15.:55:22.

stadium. New tennis balls Pau Lopez. UMPIRE: Mr Cilic is challenging the

:55:23.:56:26.

call. The ball was called in. The call stands. 30-15.

:56:27.:57:29.

He will be annoyed there. What is he complaining about? Was and he put

:57:30.:57:42.

off from the ball girl, perhaps still moving at the net. Not much

:57:43.:57:48.

you can do, they have done a good job. Certainly heightened senses

:57:49.:57:57.

from both players as this contest, which is a crescendo. -- reaches a

:57:58.:58:07.

crescendo. SUE BARKER: we can update you with

:58:08.:58:13.

scores from elsewhere. Great for Petra Kvitova, she came from behind

:58:14.:58:22.

to beat Ashley Darty 46 macro, 6-3, 6-2. It is her first since her

:58:23.:58:27.

comeback. She has asked for a wildcard into Eastbourne, which is

:58:28.:58:32.

great news for the tournament. In the opening round, Heather Watson

:58:33.:58:43.

has had a very good win. She has battled a 3-set match. Now back to

:58:44.:58:55.

this match. COMMENTATOR: Grey news for Petra Kvitova. Dreadful incident

:58:56.:59:07.

that was for her. Here is another leftie, knows his way around the

:59:08.:59:17.

grass court. Feliciano Lopez. So many great champions over the years

:59:18.:59:21.

here, including Marin Cilic, champion in 2012, run up to Andy

:59:22.:59:29.

Murray in 2013. He was unable to go beyond the third -- first-round. He

:59:30.:59:43.

treated a picture with his gold medal from the Olympics. I don't

:59:44.:59:51.

think it will affect Andy Murray's preparation for Wimbledon. He would

:59:52.:59:55.

have liked some matches, but it wasn't to be. He has done enough

:59:56.:00:01.

winning to know how to get the job done.

:00:02.:00:58.

So quick up to this ball. Right on it to, his right foot. Took that

:00:59.:01:11.

early. UMPIRE: Game Cilic.

:01:12.:02:19.

APPLAUSE Cilic made it himself there, because

:02:20.:04:17.

when he gets a second serve for a chance to return, it's such a bonus

:04:18.:04:22.

thapd one was not. The second serve, just dragged that

:04:23.:04:28.

backhand from the net. May be better on this one.

:04:29.:04:36.

Two in a row. Both of them on his backhand.

:04:37.:04:50.

It is only an advantage if you hold. He's 3-2 up.

:04:51.:04:52.

??FORCEWHITE STUDIO: And you know Peter, you'll

:04:53.:04:58.

only get the odd chance now and again, and you have to take it.

:04:59.:05:03.

Exactly right. Cilic has faced one break point. Saved it in the first

:05:04.:05:08.

set. Because he's been so dominant on serve throughout this match that

:05:09.:05:12.

that must take its toil on Lopez a little bit as the match wears on.

:05:13.:05:19.

Yet Lopez in set number two served 80% first serves in F even though he

:05:20.:05:25.

missed a few first serves in this set has still held serve and held

:05:26.:05:28.

serve in the way he's played all week and the last two weeks. Can you

:05:29.:05:33.

bet against him? And we talked about him at the start of the show,

:05:34.:05:37.

talking about how competitive he is in big situations. Towards the end

:05:38.:05:42.

of that second set he raised his level right through that tie-break.

:05:43.:05:46.

He really did. So there is no favourite in this match. It will

:05:47.:05:50.

come down to nerve. Who manages to hold his nerve better and who

:05:51.:05:56.

manages to come up with a terrific shot in the right moment? Because

:05:57.:05:59.

neither one of them will give it away. It is lovely to watch the

:06:00.:06:03.

style of play. The big hitting of Cilic. But Lopez in that last game,

:06:04.:06:09.

that lovely volley that he took the pace off, just let it slide away. It

:06:10.:06:14.

is lovely to watch. It is. Lopez is so consistent off the ground that it

:06:15.:06:19.

is incredible he can stay with Cilic for so long in each round. OK, thank

:06:20.:06:22.

you, Peter. Nobody had a better view of that

:06:23.:06:28.

ball than Marin Cilic. Just been such a feature today from

:06:29.:07:42.

both players when they, not they've been 0-15 down that many times, when

:07:43.:07:52.

they hit a serve on the line or just close to it.

:07:53.:09:26.

Pretty intense decider. Tournaments have known many guises. It started

:09:27.:09:36.

as the London court championships. It has known great winners,

:09:37.:09:41.

competitors and great memories. It has been built up up by great

:09:42.:09:50.

tournament directors. Stephen Farrow at the moment.

:09:51.:09:55.

One of those former is Ian White, who sadly passed away just last

:09:56.:09:59.

month. His wife and daughters are here as guests of the tournament

:10:00.:10:01.

today. Lopez hit that ball so flat and so

:10:02.:12:16.

hard. It just flipped up off the net Yes, sorry about that. Would like

:12:17.:12:22.

another ten more of those. Wouldn't fancy 30-30.

:12:23.:12:37.

Now they're going for Lopez. Cilic with mounting frustration

:12:38.:12:52.

here. If it does come down to neither

:12:53.:12:55.

player giving it away and I hope that is the case, I think it has to

:12:56.:13:02.

be said that the green has been with Lopez. It has been like that all

:13:03.:13:07.

week. Remember the point he played against Berdych. Berdych hit an

:13:08.:13:13.

unbeliefable return. Somehow he found an angle on his backhand which

:13:14.:13:16.

went for a clean winner. Sometimes it feels like destiny. It is the

:13:17.:13:23.

first time the Cilic reaction we've had... He's been very patient, the

:13:24.:13:28.

little one. The first time Cilic looked at his box there and just

:13:29.:13:32.

frustration. He's been so in the moment and I think in his mind he

:13:33.:13:39.

would find a way to break serve and he's got closer, but he can't seem

:13:40.:13:45.

to find a way and then the net cord and it just, he just slightly got

:13:46.:13:53.

frustrated there at the end oh game. -- at the end of this game. He's got

:13:54.:13:57.

to put it out of his mind because now we're getting to the business

:13:58.:14:04.

end of this match and the set. One sloppy game and goodbye! He's a very

:14:05.:14:13.

gentle fellow, but he's got a very menacing look sometimes. He's got

:14:14.:14:18.

the hypester beard going. He's been playing with great intent. Must

:14:19.:14:21.

concentrate now. There you go!

:14:22.:14:57.

Surprise tactic. Is he vulnerable, this game?

:14:58.:15:28.

He drove that slice. Really hit it. Yes he did. See the way the ball

:15:29.:17:42.

checked. Goes to hit this one, dropped about a foot lower than it

:17:43.:17:44.

would have normally. Gold star for Marin Cilic. Thomas

:17:45.:18:27.

Bjorn menu he was under pressure there, his man. Keeping his

:18:28.:18:34.

composure nicely, Marin Cilic. Ace number 16 for Lopez. Game full

:18:35.:20:22.

of aces, Cilic, 15. Three straight. Lopez at five bash for, just four

:20:23.:20:24.

points away. The importance of the first point in

:20:25.:20:35.

the game. Cilic catching the top of the net on the backhand and showing

:20:36.:20:40.

that frustration. You might think it is only one point, but it set the

:20:41.:20:49.

base for a game. On graphs, -- grass, the game can go so quickly.

:20:50.:21:05.

Rather furrowed brow the moment. This is sharpening the sensors ahead

:21:06.:21:09.

of Wimbledon and everything beyond. Certainly is, tough match. Great

:21:10.:21:17.

champions here over the years of course. Only 15-time champion, Andy

:21:18.:21:32.

Murray. -- one, five-time champion. You can see the flags, those dark

:21:33.:21:38.

clouds are going the other way, which is good news.

:21:39.:21:49.

Lopez, who has had a match point to win this championship in the past

:21:50.:21:58.

against Dimitrov, three years ago. Is closing in on success here. The

:21:59.:22:07.

crowd are pretty plugged into the Spaniard.

:22:08.:22:41.

What is served. Second serve. Again, it caught the line, digs in and the

:22:42.:22:50.

spin reacts. Second serve ace. That second surveys on the first

:22:51.:24:30.

point, again absolutely critical. It is a love hold. How did it happen?

:24:31.:24:33.

By playing a gutsy first point. What a strike from that position on

:24:34.:25:39.

the court. No hesitation on the shot. Very good return of serve.

:25:40.:25:43.

Look how far he is outside the tramline.

:25:44.:26:19.

There is a bag just hovering in the air. Plastic shopping bag, just

:26:20.:26:29.

hovering. It's not changing altitude at all. It is just levitating above

:26:30.:26:32.

the court. There we go. Whatever happens, that will be the

:26:33.:28:05.

last regular service game for Feliciano Lopez this tournament. It

:28:06.:28:10.

has been a magnificent serving display. Has only lost his serve

:28:11.:28:14.

twice in the whole tournament. Brilliant effort. We do have

:28:15.:28:18.

tie-breaks in deciding sets, would you be a fan of that, John? Yes, in

:28:19.:28:25.

the men's game, otherwise, it is fun to watch or you could have more John

:28:26.:28:33.

Isner and Nicolas Mahut matches if he didn't have a tie-break. Plus,

:28:34.:28:40.

also the crowd loved tie-breaks. You have to think of the entertainment

:28:41.:28:45.

value, it is not just what the player wants, it is about the crowd

:28:46.:28:52.

as well. One bad shot, or one great winner wins the whole thing. Cilic

:28:53.:28:59.

hasn't lost his serve here, but could still lose the match. Easily.

:29:00.:29:11.

Taking a little bit of carbohydrate on board. One more service game and,

:29:12.:29:18.

well I say hopefully we would have a tie-break. It would seem right. The

:29:19.:29:27.

players will get a good hand as they come out for this final game. New

:29:28.:29:33.

tennis ball for Marin Cilic to serve with. Doesn't always feel so

:29:34.:29:45.

comfortable. It favours the server, generally speaking. But if they

:29:46.:29:48.

return gets hold of the couple, it can shoot off the surface.

:29:49.:30:04.

Certainly reacts off the surface. See that slice. It would have gone

:30:05.:30:10.

through the court more than the other balls and takes the ball

:30:11.:30:14.

further into the swing of Cilic. He caught it late. It goes in the net.

:30:15.:30:39.

Both players have done this so well. They have reacted to danger. 0-15,

:30:40.:30:48.

we have seen it with them. It is unlikely they serve an ace or an

:30:49.:30:50.

unreturnable. It is quite amazing. Hit that forehand to the wrong place

:30:51.:31:10.

there, Cilic. Had to react very well to cut that volley off.

:31:11.:31:15.

Looked like he was going to go out to the back and went straight to the

:31:16.:31:20.

Lopez forehand. That was one heck of a volley to hit, at this stage of

:31:21.:31:24.

the match, in particular. Look at that beautiful technique.

:31:25.:31:29.

Stayed low. A nice feel. Head close to the ball.

:31:30.:31:33.

What a game he's played from 0-15. Ten aces in this set alone.

:31:34.:31:49.

A breaker is at hand, it would seem. Two game points to take us there.

:31:50.:31:57.

There you go. 20 aces for the match. A great display of serving from both

:31:58.:32:04.

players in regular play. It comes down to this tie-break. And Cilic

:32:05.:32:09.

will want to start quicker than he did in set two. So the tournament

:32:10.:32:11.

rests on this. The wind has picked up in the last

:32:12.:32:38.

15-20 minutes. Hear it from the flags and the supports.

:32:39.:32:59.

That's the reply. Completely wrong-footing. Cilic moving to the

:33:00.:33:13.

backhand side there, expecting more of the percentage play from Lopez.

:33:14.:33:49.

Cilic does start better than the second tie-break.

:33:50.:34:43.

Hit it long. He did well to move his feet to adjust to a low ball from

:34:44.:34:57.

him earlier on. That is a miss. That is, you can call it an unforced

:34:58.:35:02.

error, but not really with the whole tournament on the line. Should have

:35:03.:35:03.

made it. Again a strong reaction after that

:35:04.:36:04.

missed forehand. Two straight service holds. Pressure

:36:05.:36:11.

reverts to Cilic. 2-3. Oh, that's superb. That's just

:36:12.:36:49.

fantastic play from Cilic. Second set tie-break. When they

:36:50.:37:03.

changed it was all over, it was 5-1 to Lopez. This is a totally

:37:04.:37:06.

different affair. Played at Queen's Club before. Cilic

:37:07.:37:16.

has won both of those in three sets. I was going to say, that was the

:37:17.:38:12.

longest I've ever seen. Still hasn't served it.

:38:13.:38:27.

Bravo! The wind was gusting down on the court. It was gusting. He was

:38:28.:38:38.

waiting for it to fall, wasn't he? I can only assume. It kept going on

:38:39.:38:45.

and on and on. But didn't he do well to maintain his composure after a

:38:46.:38:48.

time warning there. We don't like the umpire to do that at the end of

:38:49.:38:54.

the tie-break. But he had no choice, it went on for so long. What a

:38:55.:39:01.

backhand pass, though. It is very gusty down there. Hold on... Still

:39:02.:39:08.

get a code violation. He's going to get one if he's not careful, too.

:39:09.:39:19.

Cilic is looking at him. It doesn't matter if it's windy. Doesn't

:39:20.:39:26.

matter. You've got the time and that's the end of that - 25 seconds.

:39:27.:39:43.

It is better do that if you want to buy some time and wait for a gust.

:39:44.:40:09.

Look! Off his backfoot, a little hop at the end. What a shot! And hold

:40:10.:40:36.

that pose! That's beautiful, too! I can't

:40:37.:41:33.

believe Lopez hit the drop shot there - the first time in the match

:41:34.:41:37.

he's done so. Look at that! A good shot. He didn't have quite enough

:41:38.:41:41.

time to get into the net close enough after it.

:41:42.:41:42.

Well done, Cilic. Yes! We said at the start of the

:41:43.:42:11.

match he loves that serve. Nobody giving an inch in this tie-break.

:42:12.:42:13.

Fabulous contest. A 21st ace from Cilic takes him to

:42:14.:42:23.

Championship Point. Now his turn for a Championship

:42:24.:44:09.

Point. He's had one of these before, remember. Not in this match.

:44:10.:44:23.

He threw a lob up into the sky where the paper bags fly in the middle of

:44:24.:45:58.

that rally. Come on, my son. Cool as a cucumber, that is. Lopez

:45:59.:46:52.

was praying for Cilic to make a mistake. His first serve was well

:46:53.:47:03.

wide. Probably the worst serve in the whole match on his first serve.

:47:04.:47:07.

Missed it by mile. Extra adrenaline, I suppose.

:47:08.:47:41.

131 miles an hour, onto the line. 15 minute tie-break, it is an absolute

:47:42.:47:52.

beauty. Lopez, with another match point.

:47:53.:48:28.

Feliciano Lopez has seen match points come and go here before. This

:48:29.:48:40.

time, he's the champion. Who would have thought he would have come back

:48:41.:48:43.

and done this. What a wonderful story. Mum and dad flew in this

:48:44.:48:54.

morning, it was worth it. Coach and his doubles partner and

:48:55.:49:22.

great friend, Marc Lopez. Friends in the box throughout this week and mum

:49:23.:49:32.

and dad here. What a fantastic final to finish, what has been a most

:49:33.:49:38.

interesting week. We will read when all the big names went out. Fear

:49:39.:49:51.

not. He was supposed to lose to Stan Wawrinka, he didn't. Beat Tomas

:49:52.:49:59.

Berdych. Could have lost to Grigor Dimitrov, but got the job done. Then

:50:00.:50:04.

he was championship point down to Marin Cilic, but came through.

:50:05.:50:11.

Fabulous. Poor old Marin Cilic, you do remember those matches when you

:50:12.:50:14.

have the chance, specially on the championship point. He didn't lose

:50:15.:50:23.

his serve, did he. Lost the match. On Court to greet the presentation

:50:24.:50:29.

party, Stephen Farrow, tournament director, a gun Championships. --

:50:30.:50:44.

Aegon championship. Welcome Adrian Grace, the CEO of Aegon, the

:50:45.:50:52.

chairman of the Queen's Club. Martin Currie, president of the Lawn Tennis

:50:53.:50:56.

Association. To receive and Magnum of Moet

:50:57.:51:22.

champagne from Stephen trophy and trophy from Adrian Grace, the

:51:23.:51:29.

runner-up, Marin Cilic. APPLAUSE

:51:30.:51:42.

It wasn't to be. Two championship efforts in three years, but a

:51:43.:51:51.

wonderful tournament the Marin Cilic, who manages to smile under

:51:52.:51:52.

difficult circumstances. That was truly, gem of a final and

:51:53.:52:18.

the wonderful tie-break, one of the best we have ever seen. It is times

:52:19.:52:23.

like this it is a shame someone has to lose a match. But you threw

:52:24.:52:31.

everything at Feliciano? It was high-level tennis, and was a

:52:32.:52:34.

pleasure to play again in front of this amazing crime. It was an

:52:35.:52:38.

amazing final. It was definitely high quality. I had chances in the

:52:39.:52:48.

second set to be a break-up, and Feliciano was playing well.

:52:49.:52:52.

Congratulations to him, he plays well on grass and he deserves the

:52:53.:53:00.

title. Well said. We know you look playing here and you have played

:53:01.:53:04.

some great tennis so you must feel as though you are ready for

:53:05.:53:09.

Wimbledon. Definitely, I played great tennis this week, I have

:53:10.:53:13.

enjoyed every day. I am still in the double so I will be back on the

:53:14.:53:18.

court later. Hopefully I will get a trophy today. It has been an amazing

:53:19.:53:22.

week, great preparation for Wimbledon and always a pleasure to

:53:23.:53:27.

play here at the Queen's Club. That doubles match may be sooner than you

:53:28.:53:32.

think, it may be just a few minutes. You played a fantastic match and a

:53:33.:53:37.

fantastic tournament, all the best for Wimbledon. Ladies and gentlemen,

:53:38.:53:41.

Marin Cilic. APPLAUSE

:53:42.:53:53.

To receive Moet champagne from Stephen Farrow and the Aegon

:53:54.:54:09.

championship trophy from Adrian Grace, the 2017 champion, Feliciano

:54:10.:54:10.

Lopez. APPLAUSE

:54:11.:54:32.

Also the small matter of ?347,000. Magnificently prepared courts.

:54:33.:54:45.

Stephen Farrow, the tournament director has done a wonderful job.

:54:46.:54:50.

And here is this trophy which is quite sizeable. Been held up by so

:54:51.:55:00.

many great champions over the years. Rod Laveau, in 62, Roy Emerson,

:55:01.:55:07.

Jimmy Connors, John McEnroe. Boris Becker, who could forget 1985. Ivan

:55:08.:55:15.

Mendel, Stefan Edberg. Poor players do not win here.

:55:16.:55:19.

Feliciano Lopez is the champion. You are only saying yesterday it would

:55:20.:55:23.

be a dream to win this title, how did it feel to lift the trophy? I

:55:24.:55:29.

cannot believe I have finally won this trophy. I have been waiting so

:55:30.:55:34.

long, 15, 16 years to be here holding this trophy. I thought by

:55:35.:55:47.

the end of the tie-break, after losing a few match points, I would

:55:48.:55:52.

not be able to make it. But I was lucky. I won today and I want to

:55:53.:55:58.

congratulate my toughest opponent today. Best of luck for Wimbledon.

:55:59.:56:06.

U-boat played your part in a fantastic final. You mention the

:56:07.:56:09.

match points because you had a match point a few years go against

:56:10.:56:17.

Dimitrov, it did that come to your mind again? It was so difficult, to

:56:18.:56:24.

be there and handle my nerves. Finally I was able to today. I am so

:56:25.:56:32.

happy today. Many people like watching you here. You must have

:56:33.:56:38.

felt the support today? Yes, this place is amazing, thank you guys for

:56:39.:56:42.

coming through the whole week and you have been supporting me every

:56:43.:56:45.

year and it is amazing to play in this club. It is an honour and a

:56:46.:56:55.

pleasure to play on this court. It was a difficult start to the year,

:56:56.:57:00.

do you feel now you are playing your best tennis right now? Rightly, it

:57:01.:57:05.

is tough to believe that at 35 years old I am playing my best tennis, but

:57:06.:57:11.

yes I am. Nothing wrong with that. Your parents flew in for the final,

:57:12.:57:16.

I think they are enjoying it now but I think it was a nervous afternoon?

:57:17.:57:21.

Yes, they came for the final and also my agent and other friends. I

:57:22.:57:32.

would like to thank my whole team, from my coach, my friends and my

:57:33.:57:38.

parents. Thank you for everything you have done for me. Since we

:57:39.:57:43.

started working together, it has been very successful and I hope it

:57:44.:57:49.

continues the same way. To my friends, thank you, you guys are

:57:50.:57:53.

amazing, supporting me every single year here in London. It feels like

:57:54.:58:00.

home. It is because of you. Can we thank you for everything you have

:58:01.:58:05.

done for this tournament and for a great final. Stephen, you guys are

:58:06.:58:11.

amazing, a great effort to achieve the best 500 event of the year. You

:58:12.:58:20.

got better this year, so there is no work for you now in the future! So,

:58:21.:58:26.

many congratulations. It is definitely one of the best

:58:27.:58:29.

tournament in the world. We look forward to seeing you next year, so

:58:30.:58:34.

good luck at Wimbledon, you must feel ready for that now? There is no

:58:35.:58:39.

better preparation going into Wimbledon, to win here and to play

:58:40.:58:46.

Wimbledon in a couple of weeks, it is a great feeling. I don't want to

:58:47.:58:50.

forget Aegon, the main sponsor and for their support over the years and

:58:51.:58:56.

that other tournaments. I hope to see you next year guys, thank you

:58:57.:59:02.

for everything. Enjoy the celebration, ladies and gentlemen,

:59:03.:59:02.

Feliciano Lopez. COMMENTATOR: the pictures that will

:59:03.:59:22.

be in the newspapers and online, good works from both Marin Cilic and

:59:23.:59:29.

Feliciano Lopez. Cannot be easy for Marin Cilic, who has going to come

:59:30.:59:34.

out now and play doubles. It looks like going to deciding tie-break

:59:35.:59:40.

there. There is wonderful trophy. So many memories, Lleyton Hewitt, Andy

:59:41.:59:46.

Murray, the five-time champion. Marin Cilic is on there from 2012.

:59:47.:59:59.

The infamous final when David Nalbandian was disqualified.

:00:00.:00:02.

Feliciano Lopez, will be playing his 16th Wimbledon championship on

:00:03.:00:14.

Monday week. So much tennis ahead. There will be a different atmosphere

:00:15.:00:18.

at Roehampton. The weather forecast is in great from the middle of the

:00:19.:00:23.

week towards the end. Certainly had a hot summer this week for four

:00:24.:00:31.

days. He is not the first Spaniard, left-handed Spaniard to raise this

:00:32.:00:34.

trophy above his head. Rafael Nadal has been in this position. Who knows

:00:35.:00:40.

how far Lopez will go at the Championships.

:00:41.:00:50.

I don't think anybody has won a tournament this year saving match

:00:51.:00:58.

points in two matches. That is what he's done this week. It is a rare

:00:59.:01:03.

achievement. You will remember the match point against Tomas Berdych,

:01:04.:01:10.

the number seven seed. Match point, despite a superb

:01:11.:01:23.

return from Berdych. A spectacular week. Confirming the prize money.

:01:24.:01:30.

Well the points are 500 points. 300 to the runner up. That will make a

:01:31.:01:38.

big difference to the ranking. ?347,000 as well. I saw him arrive

:01:39.:01:45.

on Monday morning, from Stuttgart having three 4 set matches last

:01:46.:01:49.

week. And he did look absolutely exhausted. He's brought his best

:01:50.:01:54.

tennis here and he's the champion. Wonderful. That's his biggest

:01:55.:02:03.

supporter. I hope you've enjoyed the tennis. I will leave you with Sue

:02:04.:02:09.

Barker, who has made her way back to the studio.

:02:10.:02:11.

I have. Just watching him on the court, it means so much to him. He

:02:12.:02:20.

always plays his best tennis here. He's been so close to winning the

:02:21.:02:25.

championship. Make no mistake, this is a huge title to win. Look at the

:02:26.:02:29.

name, the tennis greats who have won this in the past. This is a moment

:02:30.:02:37.

he'll never forget. John, how impressed were you with that

:02:38.:02:40.

tie-break? The standard was incredible. It was incredible. When

:02:41.:02:44.

you consider how windy it was out there. It really just, just... I'm

:02:45.:02:52.

amazed they played as well as they did. So few unforced errors. Also,

:02:53.:02:57.

John, it was very windy out there and to be able to play this standard

:02:58.:03:03.

of tennis with this control just shows how bold they are. They are

:03:04.:03:10.

both so sharp right now, apart from the physical exhaustion. They are

:03:11.:03:18.

peaking... They are magnificent. The rallies were ridiculous. The gets

:03:19.:03:22.

they were getting. I mean, look at that stretch! And you just wonder...

:03:23.:03:28.

The crowd were on their feet. This was just an incredible way to end

:03:29.:03:31.

the torn. We came here thinking when we lost some of the big names, what

:03:32.:03:36.

would we do? We were treated to a wonderful final. This, one of the

:03:37.:03:39.

greatest tie-breaks you will ever see on a tennis court. As I said out

:03:40.:03:43.

there, it is a shame that one had to lose. It was unbelievable. Marin

:03:44.:03:47.

Cilic did not lose his serve today and loses the finals. He played

:03:48.:03:51.

brilliantly. I agree with you, it was one of the best tie-breakers I

:03:52.:03:55.

have ever seen. It was extraordinary. Point after point.

:03:56.:03:59.

And this was the big chance that you have to say, well played Marin Cilic

:04:00.:04:01.

here. Bjorkman trying to get him to come

:04:02.:04:09.

forward, keep attacking and he did that a match point down. That is

:04:10.:04:16.

right. That was not so good. One of the few mistakes he made all day

:04:17.:04:21.

long. It was a high-quality match all the way throughout.

:04:22.:04:26.

And Marin Cilic, he's such a good player on this. You have to say

:04:27.:04:29.

walking away from this, you have to pat him on the back and say, you

:04:30.:04:33.

didn't really do anything wrong, maybe that last shot was about the

:04:34.:04:36.

only thing that went wrong. He loses the final. As I say, didn't lose his

:04:37.:04:42.

serve. What will his coach say to that? Well, you did everything you

:04:43.:04:45.

could. It came down literally to one point. You could easily have won it.

:04:46.:04:49.

In some ways looking at the stats you could have said he was the

:04:50.:04:53.

slightly better player today. It all comes down to the tie-breaker and in

:04:54.:04:57.

that Lopez was amazing on a couple of extra shots. He was getting

:04:58.:05:03.

emotional talking about his team. He spoke about how difficult the year

:05:04.:05:08.

had been, he had an injury. He couldn't put together back-to-back

:05:09.:05:11.

victories in tournaments throughout March. To come here and produce this

:05:12.:05:16.

tennis, the team with him play a big part in that as well. It is a dream

:05:17.:05:21.

for him to. Be aged 35 and playing your best tennis. I'm sure he's just

:05:22.:05:25.

saying, don't wake me up here, because I'd like to continue with

:05:26.:05:29.

this lifestyle for many years to come.

:05:30.:05:32.

Well, good luck with that. It is, I mean 35, there are so many players

:05:33.:05:40.

now, probably more in the main draw of the Grand Slams over 30 now than

:05:41.:05:45.

under 30. Exactly. They keep themselves in such shape now. It is

:05:46.:05:49.

a science out there. They know how to prepare in the season, during the

:05:50.:05:54.

offseason, how to eat, when to train, when to take the rests. These

:05:55.:05:59.

guys are, they are physical specimens out there. The way he

:06:00.:06:03.

manages his game now, Lopez, he knows exactly how he should play and

:06:04.:06:08.

does it to perfection. On this surface he's absolutely awesome.

:06:09.:06:11.

Three times a quarter finalist at Wimbledon. You have to say, hey, he

:06:12.:06:15.

could get there again. No question. He might be one of the bookies'

:06:16.:06:22.

favourites to get to the quarters, not necessarily to win the title.

:06:23.:06:27.

But you know, nobody wants the plan, that's for sure. Looking ahead,

:06:28.:06:34.

Wimbledon, only a week away. Everyone is hoping their games,

:06:35.:06:40.

getting -- honing their games, getting ready for Wimbledon. You

:06:41.:06:44.

have to put Federer the favourite this week. How does anybody come

:06:45.:06:49.

back from not playing and pick it up in two seconds flat. He lost to

:06:50.:06:56.

Robin Haase. Them he wins easily, two sets, now is ready to go. Novak

:06:57.:07:04.

Djokovic has gone to Eastbourne. He needs matches, doesn't he? It h will

:07:05.:07:08.

interesting to see how he reacts to that. You know the wind will blow

:07:09.:07:13.

down there. Does that help his game? Or does it even take his rhythm away

:07:14.:07:18.

from him a little bit? I don't know. It is really fascinating how wide

:07:19.:07:23.

open it is this year. How dare he say that about Eastbourne!

:07:24.:07:27.

Absolutely lovely place, it is! So we've had a wonderful week here.

:07:28.:07:35.

We've so much tennis to come. We've got live coverage from the All

:07:36.:07:38.

England Lawn Tennis Club. We cannot wait for that one. Coming up

:07:39.:07:42.

tomorrow, Live coverage of the qualifying. You can see that on the

:07:43.:07:48.
