of home. SUE BARKER: Wasn't that lovely? Andy

:01:50.:02:03.

Murray certainly does feel at home on the grass. He has won 14

:02:04.:02:08.

consecutive matches on their surface, and he loves this city,

:02:09.:02:15.

having won 17 matches in a row in London after having won Wimbledon

:02:16.:02:21.

and the ATP finals at the O2. He won last year against Raonic, and he

:02:22.:02:24.

ended the year at world number one, but it hasn't been a great year for

:02:25.:02:28.

him in 2017, but he is back on his favourite surface and back to start

:02:29.:02:35.

the defence of his title alongside Ivan Lendl and Jamie Delgado. We

:02:36.:02:39.

have moved out of our studio and made our way up to the practice

:02:40.:02:43.

court, it is a little warm, but there is a breeze. Peter and Andrew

:02:44.:02:49.

are with me. It isn't bad, I like it when the sun goes behind the cloud.

:02:50.:02:55.

You are slightly overdressed, he said I have my bowling outfit on! We

:02:56.:03:00.

have been watching Andy Murray practice, he looks so at home on the

:03:01.:03:07.

grass courts. Yes, and at times he has shown good form but then he got

:03:08.:03:13.

shingles, it is strange how it can affect you, injury and illness at

:03:14.:03:16.

times, perhaps a little rundown after his great efforts that took

:03:17.:03:20.

him to world 11, but ready to defend here and play well at Wimbledon as

:03:21.:03:23.

well, without those matches in the French he would be looking to play

:03:24.:03:28.

catch up, he will be ready now for Wimbledon. Every player says they

:03:29.:03:34.

need to win matches to gain the confidence, which he wasn't doing

:03:35.:03:37.

earlier in the year, but at the French Open he did get it back. He

:03:38.:03:42.

did well in Paris even though he probably didn't play his best, but I

:03:43.:03:46.

think it laid a nice foundation for him to come to this surface and get

:03:47.:03:53.

some more confidence. He moves so well on this surface that it gives

:03:54.:03:57.

him an advantage over most guys simply because a lot of players find

:03:58.:04:02.

this service alien. It is difficult, and difficult handy because he would

:04:03.:04:05.

have gone to sleep last night thinking, tomorrow I play Aljaz

:04:06.:04:14.

Bedene, but he has pulled out due to injury, so the lucky loser comes in,

:04:15.:04:18.

Jordan Thompson from Australia, said he needs a different mindset? Jordan

:04:19.:04:22.

Thompson is a good worker, singles and doubles, good ranking, good

:04:23.:04:28.

all-round player, really solid. There is quite a tight-knit group of

:04:29.:04:33.

Australians, but either way, if you see your name opposite Andy Murray

:04:34.:04:36.

on a grass court, it is a tough draw. But he has already had plenty

:04:37.:04:43.

of matches on this surface, and even Andy Murray, nobody plays their

:04:44.:04:47.

first match with complete and utter comfort, I say that, he will

:04:48.:04:55.

probably be well up in a few sets games. The order of play has

:04:56.:05:02.

slightly changed, because that third match now is Andy Murray taking on

:05:03.:05:05.

Jordan Thompson, but what a line-up we have. Thanasi Kokkinakis has had

:05:06.:05:13.

18 months off the tour with a variety of injuries, he has been

:05:14.:05:17.

given a wildcard, lovely to see him back on the tour. He is playing last

:05:18.:05:21.

year's runner-up, Milos Raonic. Feliciano Lopez reach the final inch

:05:22.:05:27.

strip chart, he is certainly at home on the grass, up against Stan

:05:28.:05:31.

Wawrinka who always write himself off on the grass for some reason,

:05:32.:05:35.

the Rincon says he doesn't like the grass too much, but who knows what

:05:36.:05:41.

we will see from him today. On the last match, that could be a great

:05:42.:05:48.

finish, Marin Cilic against a John Isner. They went 12-10 in the fifth

:05:49.:05:53.

the last time they met. And on Court Number One, two of Britain's

:05:54.:05:57.

wildcards, James Ward is taking an qualifier Julien Benneteau, and

:05:58.:06:02.

Cameron Norrie who has been playing college tennis in America Merhi

:06:03.:06:11.

takes on big server Sam Querrey. I had a word with Paul Annacone, he

:06:12.:06:18.

has worked with some of the greatest players, so what you think you can

:06:19.:06:24.

add? Stan comes onto grass and says, I don't want to be here, so things

:06:25.:06:30.

get him down during matches, whereas on a clay court or hard court, he

:06:31.:06:33.

might let those negatives wash over him, so I think Paul, having worked

:06:34.:06:39.

with Pete Sampras and many others. Federer. Henman. So hopefully he

:06:40.:06:53.

will bring a bit of calm to Stan and say, this isn't rocket science, you

:06:54.:06:55.

don't have to be unbelievable, you have a great serve so just use it

:06:56.:06:58.

and see if you can't break once a set. We will talk more variety

:06:59.:07:03.

afternoon, but we are going to head life to Centre Court, because it is

:07:04.:07:06.

heading to a tie-break in the opening set between Kokkinakis and

:07:07.:07:14.

Raonic, and there it is, and we can join our commentators for the match,

:07:15.:07:15.

it is John Lloyd and Andrew Cotter. ANDREW COTTER: Kokkinakis really

:07:16.:07:28.

having to grapple every time on his eight break points he has seen off,

:07:29.:07:30.

how will he fair in the tie-break? It is such an impressive weapon, the

:07:31.:08:29.

second serve of Raonic, let alone the first.

:08:30.:08:35.

JOHN LLOYD: Yes, he had won second serve at 138 in this second -- this

:08:36.:08:43.

set, so he might even start going higher than his top 140 first serve.

:08:44.:08:49.

That has to be quick. UMPIRE: This to Kokkinakis is

:08:50.:08:54.

challenging the call, the right service line. The ball was called

:08:55.:08:59.

in. That might have broken the Hawk-Eye,

:09:00.:09:03.

that serve! It looked to be right on the line, and lo and behold. S

:09:04.:09:14.

UMPIRE: Mr Kokkinakis has three challenges remaining.

:09:15.:09:31.

Just towards the end of the set, Kokkinakis has lifted his first

:09:32.:09:38.

serve percentage considerably. Struggling early on.

:09:39.:09:48.

You are right. In the early part of the first set, he was pulling down a

:09:49.:10:00.

lot on his first serve, hit a lot of serves in the middle of the net, but

:10:01.:10:04.

he has correct it that in the last two or three service games, and so

:10:05.:10:07.

far in this tie-breaker as well. It helps a lot when you are up against

:10:08.:10:18.

it. That was any chance there,

:10:19.:11:01.

Kokkinakis should not have missed that forehand. When you are in a

:11:02.:11:05.

rally, you need to make sure you don't make errors like that. Just a

:11:06.:11:13.

reminder, he played in the Netherlands, and his win their over

:11:14.:11:19.

Mikhail Youzhny was his first singles win in 21 months. So that is

:11:20.:11:23.

the size of the task and achievement if he were to beat Raonic today.

:11:24.:11:36.

There you go, just blocked it back, he didn't do much with it, and that

:11:37.:11:42.

was a poor performance from Raonic, he snatched at it. That has piqued

:11:43.:11:48.

the interest of Kyrgios. It is amazing, the main body of the

:11:49.:12:14.

set was dominated by Raonic even though he couldn't make the

:12:15.:12:19.

breakthrough, he was challenging the serve of Kokkinakis all the time and

:12:20.:12:22.

racing through his own service games, but he is up against it here.

:12:23.:12:37.

Amazing, eight break points saved, you wouldn't have thought he had any

:12:38.:12:44.

chance of winning this set, and now he has three set points. I still

:12:45.:12:49.

think Raonic even if he loses a set will find a way to come through this

:12:50.:12:53.

match, but he will be disappointed with not converting any of those

:12:54.:12:54.

break points. One of those three set points is

:12:55.:13:09.

saved. Kokkinakis fixing the line with a

:13:10.:13:44.

stare. Not just that one mini-break behind him, but enough to give

:13:45.:13:47.

Kokkinakis set point on serve. And he takes it, Kokkinakis against

:13:48.:14:27.

another three seed, up against it for so much of that set, but he

:14:28.:14:32.

still manages to claim it in a tie-break, and much from Raonic to

:14:33.:14:40.

ponder. As John was saying, every chance that Raonic will still take

:14:41.:14:44.

this match, but it is going to be a long afternoon's work than he

:14:45.:14:48.

intended or many of us expected, having watched that first set, you

:14:49.:14:51.

would think surely at some point Raonic is going to make the

:14:52.:14:56.

breakthrough, eight break points. You go into a tie-breaker, anything

:14:57.:15:01.

can happen, and Raonic at the end of this day when he sits down with his

:15:02.:15:05.

coaches coming he will going through that, those chances to win it. It

:15:06.:15:10.

was a loose set from Raonic, it looked like he was almost

:15:11.:15:13.

experimenting on shots, of course he wasn't but it looked like that way.

:15:14.:15:19.

Mixing up serve - volley, ground strokes good times but very erratic,

:15:20.:15:25.

it was an iffy kind of set. A lot of people will be joining us midway

:15:26.:15:28.

through the match to state again just where he has been with injury,

:15:29.:15:34.

Kokkinakis. Problems with his shoulder, he had a shoulder

:15:35.:15:38.

operation, last year, he struggled towards the end of 2015, the whole

:15:39.:15:43.

of 2016, and this year right after Brisbane at the start of the year,

:15:44.:15:47.

he was out for pretty much for months with an abdominal strain, and

:15:48.:15:51.

that's why, when he beat Mikhail Youzhny last week, that was his

:15:52.:16:01.

first tour level win in 21 months. And Nick Kyrgios watching as

:16:02.:16:08.

Kokkinakis was watching his match yesterday, they are very good

:16:09.:16:11.

friends, and again, they help each other when they are out on tour, in

:16:12.:16:15.

terms of friendship and company, Kyrgios talking about how homesick

:16:16.:16:24.

he has been at times. He is well wrapped up against the inclement

:16:25.:16:31.

weather! It is very, very warm down there. And Raonic, finalist last

:16:32.:16:38.

year, Wimbledon finalist last year, has his work cut out to make the

:16:39.:16:46.

second round. But no matter how dominant he was on serve throughout

:16:47.:16:52.

much of the first set, suffered in the tie-break, just that one little

:16:53.:16:55.

slip, and Kokkinakis a set to the good.

:16:56.:17:27.

Well, the net provides the perfect drop shot.

:17:28.:18:24.

Kokkinakis giving himself a sarcastic thumbs up there.

:18:25.:18:58.

He doesn't serve a huge number of double faults, that is two now from

:18:59.:19:06.

Raonic. So, Raonic up and running in the

:19:07.:19:24.

second set. A man who has not been without his

:19:25.:19:39.

injury problems, either. Talking about his hamstring injury, he

:19:40.:19:46.

persistently rushed back to the hard court season because he knows that

:19:47.:19:48.

is the surface that really favours him, and he had to withdraw from

:19:49.:19:55.

Delray Beach, and also the following tournament as well. Didn't rush back

:19:56.:20:01.

for the clay-court season, didn't feel that was necessary. But keen to

:20:02.:20:06.

get going on the grass court again, and by all accounts, fighting fit,

:20:07.:20:08.

Raonic. He has used this shot three times

:20:09.:20:28.

now in this match, and they have all been successful. The backhand found

:20:29.:20:31.

the line behind his opponent. It is just the consistency, really

:20:32.:20:47.

good first return where he stayed with that backhand, that one, and

:20:48.:20:50.

just pulled the forehand into the top of the net. Just can't seem to

:20:51.:20:59.

string two in a row. There you go. In the first set, he now missed this

:21:00.:21:10.

return. Beautiful, really, that one, so compact, short backswing.

:21:11.:21:24.

Kokkinakis, no doubt about it, he is actually serving well now, and he

:21:25.:21:30.

started very inconsistently, he was struggling with his first serve,

:21:31.:21:37.

very low ones. He has made some adjustments, and his first serve

:21:38.:21:38.

percentage is rising all the time. That ball, Kokkinakis, it just

:21:39.:22:30.

checked on the line and he wasn't in the right position to hit the decent

:22:31.:22:31.

shot. Wanted Raonic to come in. That is a dozen bases for

:22:32.:22:55.

Kokkinakis. -- aces. So, hold for the 21-year-old from

:22:56.:23:48.

Adelaide, one of the bright young things, along with the man in his

:23:49.:23:52.

support box, Nick Kyrgios, who is supposed to be bringing along the

:23:53.:23:55.

next wave of Australian men's tennis talent.

:23:56.:24:09.

The new coaching setup, Mark Knowles in the green top is a new addition

:24:10.:24:45.

to the team. And that is well done, one of the

:24:46.:25:33.

better points of the match, as well. There have been short and long

:25:34.:25:35.

rallies. It is just enough to encourage

:25:36.:26:47.

Kokkinakis, it is another game from Raonic.

:26:48.:26:52.

UMPIRE: New balls, please. Raonic inconsistent today, just in

:26:53.:26:56.

few loose things which Kokkinakis can take advantage of.

:26:57.:27:05.

Extraordinary on the return of serve with Raonic, he just doesn't seem to

:27:06.:27:11.

have that rhythm. We have seen some brilliant ones, but then ones where

:27:12.:27:17.

he should be able to get the ball back in play at least, and he hasn't

:27:18.:27:22.

done so enough, not anywhere near enough. Should have broken serve

:27:23.:27:29.

quite a few times in that first set, and didn't do it. That is Ricardo

:27:30.:27:38.

Piatti who is the constant in the Milos Raonic coaching setup, but the

:27:39.:27:45.

man on his flankers changed, through McEnroe and Krajicek and now Mark

:27:46.:27:52.

Knowles, a great double play in his time. He has been chopping and

:27:53.:27:56.

changing his coaching setup a little bit and struggling with fitness, so

:27:57.:27:59.

at this point last year and going into Wimbledon and beyond that, we

:28:00.:28:04.

thought he had cracked it, he would be bedded in the top of the game,

:28:05.:28:08.

but a few issues have come in, as can happen. I was thinking with

:28:09.:28:15.

Piatti there, he must be very confident himself, because in the

:28:16.:28:18.

last for five years, he has had about five other coaches brought in,

:28:19.:28:23.

he is still there, but it is almost like, why do you keep needing to

:28:24.:28:28.

bring someone else in? You have got me. But I suppose that is the solid

:28:29.:28:32.

person in his career, and then he want someone else just to sort of

:28:33.:28:38.

come in and help out on bits and pieces, I suppose, but it seems a

:28:39.:28:44.

bit strange. The higher up the ranking you go, the bigger your

:28:45.:28:45.

coaching resumes become. A different feel about the match

:28:46.:30:46.

now. In that first set Raonic was dominant, even if he couldn't break,

:30:47.:30:50.

he was in control of the match. That's part of the reason as well,

:30:51.:31:10.

again we draw attention to it, Kokkinakis's serve has vastly

:31:11.:31:20.

improved as the match has gone on. I am sure Nick Krygios's phone bill

:31:21.:31:25.

must be enormous! Whatever happens to Kokkinakis today, whether he wins

:31:26.:31:29.

or loses this match, he has justified the wildcard spot that he

:31:30.:31:33.

got, right that he was given one. You can see the talent he has. Yes,

:31:34.:31:42.

he was very grateful to Steven far reand expressed his gratitude on

:31:43.:31:45.

social media. He is exactly the kind of case that wildcards are for,

:31:46.:31:50.

someone who is talented but has had a bad run of injuries, otherwise

:31:51.:31:53.

would be higher up the rankings. I haven't seen any monster serves

:31:54.:33:00.

from Raonic, we have seen a couple at 140. I think his opening serve

:33:01.:33:06.

was 140. We thought we were in for fear some ones today. He has been

:33:07.:33:13.

steady enough in the 130s. There we are again. Hold for Raonic. With the

:33:14.:33:21.

hamstring problems he has had you wonder if it hasn't quite got the

:33:22.:33:26.

same snap. Perhaps just still thinking about it in the back of his

:33:27.:33:31.

mind. It's taken a while to shake off. He came back perhaps a little

:33:32.:33:36.

bit too early for the hard court season and it flared up again and

:33:37.:33:43.

shut it down until later on. Didn't have a bad run at the French. On a

:33:44.:33:51.

surface that's not suited to him. Lost in the last 16 there. But this

:33:52.:34:08.

is where he thrives as well. It really is an amphitheatre now with

:34:09.:34:13.

the north stand there. 9500 spectators at its capacity which I

:34:14.:34:20.

am sure it will be close to it for the third match with Andy Murray and

:34:21.:34:37.

Aljaz Bedene, well, he has gone. It's Andy Murray against Jordan

:34:38.:34:50.

Thompson. The next match on Centre Court is Feliciano Lopez against

:34:51.:34:54.

Stan Wawrinka. When that will be, we don't know. The gumshield goes in

:34:55.:35:04.

again for Milos Raonic. Still on serve in the second set.

:35:05.:36:21.

Well played. Nice to watch that. A good rally. There hasn't been too

:36:22.:36:31.

much of it. Raonic plays short points. A well structured point from

:36:32.:36:37.

the Aussie. Nice feel on that drop volley to finish, good point. Seems

:36:38.:36:45.

to be growing as this match goes on, Kokkinakis.

:36:46.:37:09.

Even at the end of a tie-break we said, and we thought that Raonic

:37:10.:37:15.

would still have enough to come through. But not quite so sure now.

:37:16.:37:22.

You are right about the stature, the first set Raonic's body language and

:37:23.:37:24.

facial gestures, almost looked like he was thinking it's a matter of

:37:25.:37:27.

time before I break and win this set. He looked comfortable almost.

:37:28.:37:33.

Kokkinakis on the other hand was nervous and getting agitated. The

:37:34.:37:39.

tables are turning, best of three sets, don't have much time to

:37:40.:37:44.

breathe and the match can be over. Raonic has to start returning

:37:45.:37:45.

belter. Different proposition now,

:37:46.:38:57.

Kokkinakis. Again you have to stress the lack of match time he has had

:38:58.:39:05.

the past few months. Every minute on court will be helping him.

:39:06.:39:38.

There is Aljaz Bedene, a wrist injury forcing him out of the match

:39:39.:39:44.

against Andy Murray. Jordan Thompson the Australian taking his place.

:39:45.:39:49.

That's the third match on Centre Court.

:39:50.:40:02.

For Bedene you hope it's just cautionary. It would have to be

:40:03.:40:10.

serious enough to keep him out of a big match against Murray on Centre

:40:11.:40:11.

Court. That's a good volley to finish that

:40:12.:40:48.

game. Needed something like that to get himself going here. Will be

:40:49.:40:54.

disappointed with his return of serve in this match, Raonic. He is

:40:55.:40:58.

not known for his return to serve, that's for sure, but he hasn't been

:40:59.:41:02.

able to string anything together. Agitated, looking at his box a bit,

:41:03.:41:06.

muttering. He's just not quite there. It's always difficult the

:41:07.:41:10.

first match on grass, but he knows, like anybody else, this tournament

:41:11.:41:14.

is so important for so many reasons. It's a big tournament in its own

:41:15.:41:18.

right but you need matches before Wimbledon and you get down a set and

:41:19.:41:23.

not timing the ball right, playing against an Pope - the first set he

:41:24.:41:35.

had all those chances and get break points and didn't convert one. If

:41:36.:41:39.

you had converted one you could easily have seen this match going

:41:40.:41:44.

away from Kokkinakis. Kokkinakis out of practice and getting blown off

:41:45.:41:48.

court. As Raonic grows in strength. But instead it's been the opposite.

:41:49.:41:53.

Exactly what Kokkinakis needed. Interesting to see if he gets close

:41:54.:42:02.

to taking this match, he said that he tightened up in his match. This

:42:03.:42:10.

would be a far bigger scalp on his return to more regular tennis.

:42:11.:42:42.

Sneaks ahead in the ace count. That's not in the shade, we would

:42:43.:42:51.

stress, but near enough 40 degrees, though.

:42:52.:44:19.

Second serve, took advantage of, finally. A big forehand. Now a

:44:20.:44:28.

slight opening here. But in the first set these big points,

:44:29.:44:35.

Kokkinakis got his serve working well.

:44:36.:44:45.

Again did it so well in the first set. He did respond. He found an

:44:46.:44:53.

answer when he was right up against it. Not really paying attention!

:44:54.:45:22.

Oh-oh! Well, denied and it gives Raonic an opportunity.

:45:23.:46:23.

Again he can not convert Raonic. Nine break points have come. Nine

:46:24.:46:29.

break points have gone. That was the sort of return he

:46:30.:47:43.

should have made. It was in his strike zone on the forehand. Overhit

:47:44.:47:47.

it by a long way. That's well played. Dominating the

:47:48.:48:23.

point, Raonic. He was always on the back foot in

:48:24.:48:40.

that rally. Kokkinakis couldn't quite get ahead in the point. Brutal

:48:41.:48:47.

ground strokes from Raonic. He just keeps doing it. Raonic

:48:48.:49:39.

cannot find a way through. Just a bit more belief in... That

:49:40.:50:02.

box of friends and followers and indeed in Kokkinakis himself, that

:50:03.:50:06.

this is very possible. Kokkinakis asking the crowd whether

:50:07.:52:10.

that ball was in or out. It was out. So another hold for Raonic. He moves

:52:11.:52:30.

on. Still on serve in this second set, though. I wonder if a tie-break

:52:31.:52:37.

might be calling again. STUDIO: It looks likely. We will be

:52:38.:52:41.

back with this match in a moment. One match that's finished on court

:52:42.:52:44.

number one. Julian Benneteau came through

:52:45.:53:05.

against Ward. He is back in training. He has gone through. But

:53:06.:53:13.

good to see James Ward back on a tennis court and hopefully all the

:53:14.:53:16.

injury problems with that knee has gone away but Julian Benneteau is

:53:17.:53:25.

through to the next round. Andy Murray has been practising today. He

:53:26.:53:29.

is third match on Centre Court, not against Bedene, but now he faces

:53:30.:53:33.

Jordan Thompson of Australia who has had some big wins. He has beaten

:53:34.:53:39.

David Ferrer. So a different match for Andy. He is third on Centre

:53:40.:53:42.

Court today. We have a lot to look forward to as

:53:43.:53:54.

well because after this match Feliciano Lopez is against Stan

:53:55.:53:57.

Wawrinka who got through to the final beating Murray in the

:53:58.:54:10.

semifinal at Roland Garos. And Marin Cilic against John Isner. That could

:54:11.:54:14.

be a long match later. We could have long matches on Centre Court today.

:54:15.:54:17.

We certainly are enjoying this one. Let's go back to it.

:54:18.:54:26.

Yeah, finely balanced. Kokkinakis serving to stay in the set. Bedene

:54:27.:54:36.

is not serving at all today. He was standing up in the balcony watching

:54:37.:54:38.

on. It's impressive the way Kokkinakis

:54:39.:54:57.

has changed that first serve percentage. First three, four

:54:58.:55:01.

service games the first set it was pretty poor. First serves in the

:55:02.:55:07.

middle of the net. Since then he's really improved his percentage.

:55:08.:55:08.

Apart from that one! Again impressive from Kokkinakis.

:55:09.:56:08.

The second time he has held to love in this match. The balance has

:56:09.:56:17.

certainly shifted. I think that serve might have been

:56:18.:56:46.

good looking at the benefit of seeing Hauk-eye. Doesn't matter.

:56:47.:57:00.

Really has two first serves when it comes down to it.

:57:01.:57:13.

He looks like he could hold serve all day long if a match was going on

:57:14.:57:20.

ten, 12 sets but the problem is it also looks like he can't break

:57:21.:57:27.

serve, or hasn't so far. As long as there are tie-breaks others will

:57:28.:57:31.

have a chance against Raonic. That's a demonstration really in

:57:32.:58:19.

there of the second serve. Remarkable. 128 and 129 serve,

:58:20.:58:25.

second serve in that game. That's just ridiculous.

:58:26.:58:33.

You wonder how much he practises that serve. I imagine still a lot

:58:34.:58:38.

even though you would think he can serve like that in his sleep. The

:58:39.:58:43.

returns of serve he needs to work on. You talk about consistencies, he

:58:44.:58:50.

wraps himself in an ice towel. The consistency hasn't quite been there

:58:51.:58:54.

for Raonic but again he is also out of match practice. Certainly hasn't

:58:55.:59:00.

been playing a huge amount this year because of the hamstring problems.

:59:01.:59:04.

Did get a decent enough run at the French Open. But he needs a good run

:59:05.:59:13.

here. He needs to get the confidence ahead of Wimbledon, as much as

:59:14.:59:14.

anything else. Trying to encourage his man as he

:59:15.:59:48.

gets back to his feet. Here it will be Kokkinakis serving to try to take

:59:49.:59:54.

it to a tie-break. He knows just about his only chance really, so

:59:55.:59:58.

difficult to break Raonic. That was poor shot selection. From

:59:59.:00:30.

that position on the court, pushed back four, five feet deep behind the

:00:31.:00:33.

baseline and goes for a shot down the line. That's the one you have to

:00:34.:00:37.

hoist back cross-court and get back into a neutral position in the

:00:38.:00:41.

middle of the court. No sign at the moment of any

:00:42.:01:15.

tightening. Well, can't do better than that,

:01:16.:01:54.

another hold to love for Kokkinakis, and into the tie-break we go. The

:01:55.:02:02.

man whose victory over Mikhail Youzhny in 's-Hertogenbosch, his

:02:03.:02:09.

previous win before that was 2015 on the tour, and here he is a tie-break

:02:10.:02:12.

away from knocking out Milos Raonic. He has annoyed himself there,

:02:13.:02:44.

Kokkinakis, because that was an easy second serve, only 104, he had a

:02:45.:02:46.

good chance to make that return. I was going to ask the question, I

:02:47.:03:16.

wonder how that serve has improved, certainly got better in the first

:03:17.:03:22.

half, I wondered how that would stand up to the tie-break. Good

:03:23.:03:24.

signs so far. A mini-break in the hands of Raonic

:03:25.:03:42.

is significant. Well, he nibbles back. Just trying

:03:43.:04:46.

to get anything on that serve to return it, trying to give himself an

:04:47.:04:49.

opportunity to get into the rally. That was a brilliant one-two punch

:04:50.:04:59.

there, the pace of the Raonic serve, but he directed it beautifully. Back

:05:00.:05:01.

on serve. He dealt with that one well, as

:05:02.:05:20.

well, he missed two of those in the first set almost from the same

:05:21.:05:23.

position, Kokkinakis, where he sort of stayed up on the ball and drag

:05:24.:05:27.

the ball into the net, but that one, stayed with it perfectly. I don't

:05:28.:05:36.

think we can take a third set. His problem is he is not wearing

:05:37.:05:40.

anything underneath the fleadh, so he can't go down to any fewer layers

:05:41.:05:41.

Alex So, we are on serve in this

:05:42.:05:56.

tie-break. And loose again. Something about the

:05:57.:06:16.

bounce. Once more, momentum shifts back to

:06:17.:06:30.

Raonic. That is beautifully done. Kokkinakis

:06:31.:07:25.

through everything at him, but reaction, soft hands.

:07:26.:07:33.

Marvellous volley that was, lunge volley, the approach shot was good,

:07:34.:07:38.

stayed down low, you can see the good finish there. That is a

:07:39.:07:44.

fabulous volley, and it brings about three set points.

:07:45.:08:04.

Carbon copy in reverse of the first set, three set points were there,

:08:05.:08:09.

but still just that one mini-break. Puts the pressure back on Raonic at

:08:10.:08:36.

least. But now one of the best service in the game to try and close

:08:37.:08:38.

it out. Not yet! Not yet for Raonic. A

:08:39.:09:29.

spring in the step again of Kokkinakis, and now it's down to the

:09:30.:09:38.

nerve. He looked like a player there, Raonic, that is not

:09:39.:09:42.

confident, a bit rusty. Two opportunities on forehand to do

:09:43.:09:47.

damage, the first one he didn't do anything with, and the second one, a

:09:48.:09:52.

poor miss. Oh, the technique there, he didn't

:09:53.:10:41.

get his feet right on that at all. So, Raonic falters, and Kokkinakis

:10:42.:10:42.

to match point. A man who has had one tour level win

:10:43.:10:54.

since 2015, a man who has been wracked by injury, on the brink of

:10:55.:10:57.

knocking out the number three seed. Cannot quite do it, it was a decent

:10:58.:11:29.

second serve, but the return from Raonic to -- too good.

:11:30.:11:52.

Yes, came the cry from Kyrgios, and Kokkinakis once again will have his

:11:53.:12:02.

opportunity, this time on the serve of Raonic.

:12:03.:12:53.

He has done it again, Kokkinakis, a roar from the Australian. Brought it

:12:54.:13:04.

right back to him there, Raonic. A nervous looking shocked, that was.

:13:05.:13:12.

So, a third opportunity, a third match point for Thanasi Kokkinakis.

:13:13.:13:38.

And he has done it! A roar from Kokkinakis, who is back and winning

:13:39.:13:50.

at the highest level, he has seen off last year's finalist, the world

:13:51.:13:57.

number three seed, Raonic, is gone, and Kokkinakis is through, and all

:13:58.:14:02.

his injuries fade into memory. What a win for Thanasi Kokkinakis here at

:14:03.:14:05.

Queen's. And he has got something to try and

:14:06.:14:16.

find before Wimbledon celebrations continue. A smile from Nick Arias,

:14:17.:14:27.

who cruelly robbed of his win by injury. Milos Raonic so close to

:14:28.:14:34.

winning here last year against Andy Murray, and went almost all the way

:14:35.:14:39.

at Wimbledon as well, but not quite himself, and Kokkinakis can't really

:14:40.:14:46.

overstate what a very impressive victory that is, bearing in mind

:14:47.:14:52.

where he's been. 2016 was pretty much a write-off, even much of this

:14:53.:15:00.

year has been the affected by injury. Two tie-breaks it took,

:15:01.:15:08.

often the way against Milos Raonic, but under pressure he was solid, and

:15:09.:15:13.

Thanasi Kokkinakis grew in stature as the match went on, and this is

:15:14.:15:15.

how he saw it out. And that is what it means to make it

:15:16.:15:33.

through against Milos Raonic, a great win for Thanasi Kokkinakis.

:15:34.:15:40.

Nick Kyrgios among those who couldn't take their eyes away on

:15:41.:15:49.

that final point, but the reaction said it all. A great win for his

:15:50.:15:57.

great friend. Almost got out of his seat! But what a win for Thanasi

:15:58.:16:04.

Kokkinakis, two tie-breaks against Milos Raonic, very interested to get

:16:05.:16:07.

his thoughts, and he is talking to John Inverdale.

:16:08.:16:12.

Many congratulations. How much does that match mean to you? Thank you.

:16:13.:16:20.

It is everything, it is huge for me. Obviously being out of the game so

:16:21.:16:24.

long, and then first top ten when, to do it on the court like this,

:16:25.:16:27.

massive thanks to the tournament director, Stephen Farrow, I wouldn't

:16:28.:16:32.

be on the court if it wasn't for him, my ranking is nearly outside

:16:33.:16:35.

1000, so I wouldn't have a chance to be hit if it wasn't for him, so I am

:16:36.:16:41.

so excited, thank you. A lot of people watching here and at home may

:16:42.:16:44.

not be aware of the litany of injuries you have had over the last

:16:45.:16:47.

18 months, so give us a medical rundown of what's been going wrong.

:16:48.:16:51.

You don't want it, it's too extensive! No, it's crazy, there is

:16:52.:16:56.

no point about that. I'm trying to look forward now. It is brutal but

:16:57.:17:00.

I'm trying to get myself going week by week. I was 22 months out of the

:17:01.:17:06.

game, something crazy like that, but I can't wait to play my next rounds,

:17:07.:17:11.

this Centre Court is unreal, such an unbelievable club, and the support

:17:12.:17:16.

was unreal, sorry for the first set, it was a bit ugly there. Ann

:17:17.:17:20.

Travers, you have been out of the game for so long, you are not that

:17:21.:17:25.

tight, you showed no nerves at all, it seemed like you were just

:17:26.:17:29.

relishing the challenge. I was shaking in my boots! I had the

:17:30.:17:34.

chance, got a bit lucky, something like that it is usually game over

:17:35.:17:42.

when he is serving to win, but I thought, I am going for it! And you

:17:43.:17:47.

did, many congratulations, see you in the next round. Thank you very

:17:48.:17:51.

much, everyone. SUE BARKER: What an incredible

:17:52.:17:57.

story, and he is brutally honest. Nick Kyrgios was saying he is

:17:58.:18:01.

hitting the ball great in practice, he just hasn't had the matches, but

:18:02.:18:04.

he looks right back to his best, and we look forward to seeing him. I get

:18:05.:18:09.

the feeling Milos Raonic might be checking out the trains to

:18:10.:18:13.

Eastbourne. He needs to, he was rusty today. He served well as he

:18:14.:18:18.

always does, but his ground strokes, he didn't return serve at all, he

:18:19.:18:22.

couldn't string two points together, one good one and then three bad

:18:23.:18:26.

ones, and he was so tight in the tie-breaker, for someone who is just

:18:27.:18:30.

not confident at the moment, but a great performance by the young

:18:31.:18:35.

Aussie. To save eight break points in the first set, for someone who

:18:36.:18:37.

hasn't played he played the big points unbelievably well. Until you

:18:38.:18:44.

go out there and win a couple of those big points, you don't know you

:18:45.:18:48.

can do it, when you have been out, so he is a really strong player, and

:18:49.:18:53.

on a grass court, the physicality he brings, and he has a nice touch. He

:18:54.:18:58.

is a dangerous man. Mind you, that train goes through Polegate, Lewis,

:18:59.:19:08.

about two hours on the train! Tennis is the most credible scoring

:19:09.:19:12.

system, because Raonic won more points than Kokkinakis, he had nine

:19:13.:19:16.

break points and didn't convert any of them, you can't do that and get

:19:17.:19:20.

away with it. I remember once arguing with my dad when he said

:19:21.:19:25.

there are big points and there are points which are less important, you

:19:26.:19:28.

have to win the big points, and that is the name of the game. Agonising

:19:29.:19:32.

when those points are and what to do on is the difference between

:19:33.:19:36.

somebody that has played a lot of tennis and that hasn't, which is

:19:37.:19:39.

great news for Kokkinakis here, he has got the job done despite

:19:40.:19:42.

everything, he won the that mattered. That last backhand down

:19:43.:19:47.

the line, a feeling. You think your career is over before it has really

:19:48.:19:51.

begun, but he is back, and Raonic no good at all ahead of Wimbledon

:19:52.:19:56.

defence, and quite a few computer points dropping off here as well.

:19:57.:20:00.

That he was saying he learned so much from last year, Teresa, I

:20:01.:20:04.

bottled it up inside, I have to be aggressive on court, and that is

:20:05.:20:08.

what he wasn't. We can look at some of the key points, that is what you

:20:09.:20:11.

wanted him to do and he just didn't do it, did he? Know, there was a

:20:12.:20:19.

hesitation, that was the problem. That was Kokkinakis being a little

:20:20.:20:23.

nervous there on his match point. So many serves he got his racket on,

:20:24.:20:27.

Raonic, but just couldn't take the ball back in court, it was very

:20:28.:20:32.

erratic. And this one, why did he hit it back to him? That was

:20:33.:20:37.

extraordinary, an awful first volley. But for someone of his

:20:38.:20:43.

class. He almost slips here, I think. If he had gone down, they

:20:44.:20:49.

would still be out there playing the first set, but he had the courage of

:20:50.:20:52.

his conviction on the backhand side, and that is what it means. Delighted

:20:53.:20:56.

to see Kyrgios cheering him on as well, you need teamwork when you are

:20:57.:21:01.

a long way from home. They have an incredible team spirit but I think

:21:02.:21:04.

is important when you are on the tour. Always have been, the Aussies,

:21:05.:21:10.

in the old days, you had Roy Emerson and Fred Stolle staying in the same

:21:11.:21:15.

apartment, and Roy made Fred breakfast before the Wimbledon

:21:16.:21:22.

final, so they have always have a closeness, and out on the tour it

:21:23.:21:24.

can be a lonely existence, especially when you are losing, and

:21:25.:21:28.

they all get together and cheery job, they generally want the players

:21:29.:21:34.

to win, it is a good team spirit. Yes, there used to tip the team out,

:21:35.:21:38.

and the youngsters in my generation, slightly after you, Stoltenberg,

:21:39.:21:46.

Woodbridge, Woodford, Darren Cahill and others as well, a number of

:21:47.:21:50.

them, they travelled under the BP banner as was. It is a great system,

:21:51.:21:56.

they worked hard, and you could tell they were going to get the max out

:21:57.:22:01.

of their tennis. I wish Kyrgios would get the max out of his tennis.

:22:02.:22:05.

He does at times, he did in Miami and he is beginning to look as

:22:06.:22:09.

though he is getting together. But as far as Milos Raonic is concerned,

:22:10.:22:13.

he has got to find some matches before Wimbledon. I would have

:22:14.:22:18.

thought so, I'd be surprised if he doesn't go and play next week and

:22:19.:22:21.

there, because there is a decent gap now, and he didn't want that gap.

:22:22.:22:26.

You could see it in his game, there was hesitation. OK, he didn't lose

:22:27.:22:31.

his serve, what's new? But on the big point when it mattered, you

:22:32.:22:35.

could see him go to the ball and wonder if he was going to make it,

:22:36.:22:39.

instead of which when you're winning playing matches, it is natural. It

:22:40.:22:44.

was a stop start sort of match for him today and he needs play. As

:22:45.:22:48.

Djokovic possibly down in Eastbourne as well, Raonic. There doesn't seem

:22:49.:22:55.

to have been confirmed so far. Do we have any facts on that? Only that

:22:56.:22:59.

allegedly a member of his team said would there be a wildcard available

:23:00.:23:05.

for Novak? You can't imagine the tournament director saying no! That

:23:06.:23:10.

depends on the negotiation that goes with it. Yes, there is a wildcard,

:23:11.:23:19.

how much do you want it? It is a different negotiation we have five

:23:20.:23:22.

or six games, and they do negotiate the big ones. And there is no

:23:23.:23:27.

substitute for having matches, you can go and practice for as many

:23:28.:23:31.

hours as you want, but it is totally different out there, isn't it? Yes,

:23:32.:23:39.

that is what I was so impressed by Kokkinakis, his first service

:23:40.:23:41.

percentage was awful in the first three games, and then all of a

:23:42.:23:45.

sudden he realised what he was doing technically, he was dropping his

:23:46.:23:50.

left shoulder, corrected it and his first serve percentage went up and

:23:51.:23:52.

he corrected himself in the match, and on the big points, almost no

:23:53.:23:58.

hesitation. He got a bit tight in the tie-breaker couple of points,

:23:59.:24:01.

but you expect that. When it came down to it, he converted his match

:24:02.:24:06.

point well. And not always at the end, I was on the balcony watching,

:24:07.:24:14.

it is hot down there, too - three, 15-40 and she got through that, and

:24:15.:24:20.

this is where you have to be careful because if Raonic wins that, he will

:24:21.:24:25.

win the set. There is a real buzz going around here, and Stephen Farah

:24:26.:24:28.

must be thinking, I could do this guy a favour and then he comes in

:24:29.:24:33.

and beats one of my superstars! I remember when Dimitrov was a

:24:34.:24:36.

wildcard here, so don't worry, we want to see more of Kokkinakis. They

:24:37.:24:41.

like his tennis at his personality. And they will Mike this tennis as

:24:42.:24:46.

well. Feliciano Lopez leading out Stan Wawrinka, a wonderful clash of

:24:47.:24:55.

styles. Lopez knows his way around a grass court, amazing serve, great

:24:56.:25:00.

touch, it will be interesting to see what Paul Annacone has encouraged

:25:01.:25:05.

Stan Wawrinka to do. I would've thought that this is the one round

:25:06.:25:10.

that Stan Wawrinka would rather not have had. No one would want it! Yes,

:25:11.:25:15.

Paul Annacone, in the limited amount of time he has had, if he has added

:25:16.:25:20.

new answers to his game, this is a tough first round. But again, Stan

:25:21.:25:25.

Wawrinka could be good on grass, better than he is, he is already

:25:26.:25:29.

good, but at the top level, if you believed in himself, he has got the

:25:30.:25:35.

game. He is one of the best one-two strikers in the game, there is no

:25:36.:25:39.

reason why he can't win more matches. It is pretty

:25:40.:25:42.

straightforward what Paul Annacone is going to say to him, if you are

:25:43.:25:45.

going to chip the ball back into play to neutralise your opponent's

:25:46.:25:50.

serve, nobody is serve-volleying nowadays, do it as clearly as you

:25:51.:25:55.

can, and then it is 50-50, get the first strike in, and Paul has been

:25:56.:25:58.

speaking to Magnus Norman who is still his regular coach much more

:25:59.:26:05.

than he has been speaking to Stan, so he has to easy jobs now, one to

:26:06.:26:09.

be a commentator which he does a lot of the time, and the other is to

:26:10.:26:12.

coach Stan Wawrinka, which I think he is relishing being back in

:26:13.:26:16.

amongst it, in the player lounge and feeling the tennis again. It was

:26:17.:26:23.

very wise indeed. So, Stan Wawrinka on Centre Court, and he spoke to us

:26:24.:26:29.

a couple of days ago. This is the surface perhaps that you

:26:30.:26:32.

need to master more than the other three, do you feel? For sure. It is

:26:33.:26:38.

quick, the change, but it is the same for any player, so it is always

:26:39.:26:44.

interesting to come back on grass. I love to play on grass, I still need

:26:45.:26:47.

to improve a few things to play my best tennis, and I'm trying to do

:26:48.:26:52.

that. I love to come back here at Queen's, it is an amazing

:26:53.:26:54.

tournament, and hopefully this year I can makes a better results. The

:26:55.:26:59.

one Grand Slam you haven't won is Wimbledon, and it is on grass. Does

:27:00.:27:06.

it prey on your mind at all? Not at all. For me what is important is to

:27:07.:27:13.

keep trying to improve my game in general, my game on grass, trying to

:27:14.:27:18.

find the right we had to play my best tennis on grass, and then we

:27:19.:27:22.

will see what happens. You say you are far from winning Northern, I

:27:23.:27:26.

take it back at Queen's this year you will be wanted to get some time

:27:27.:27:31.

on the grass this week? Yes, I want to play a good tournament here, that

:27:32.:27:35.

is my goal, and foreshore, to practice you, it is amazing, I have

:27:36.:27:41.

been here for a few days, it is perfect to practice and get a lot of

:27:42.:27:45.

time on a grass court, and I want try my best to play the best tennis

:27:46.:27:48.

here. Magnus Norman still your coach, but you have brought an Paul

:27:49.:27:54.

Annacone, is that to try to help you master the surface? I think it is

:27:55.:28:00.

many reasons. In general it is to improve my game or have someone else

:28:01.:28:06.

to keep improving my game. Not only on the grass, but also in general. I

:28:07.:28:12.

think he has a lot of experience, he is a great car and great coach, so

:28:13.:28:15.

I'm looking forward to having him on the team. Do you really feel you are

:28:16.:28:19.

far away from winning Wimbledon? You are the third best player in the

:28:20.:28:24.

world. You have a second seeding at Queen's, you will have a high

:28:25.:28:27.

ceiling at Wimbledon. People will fear you, Stan. I know, and I know

:28:28.:28:35.

when I play my best tennis I can play beat every player, but I am far

:28:36.:28:39.

away from winning Wimbledon the same way that I'm far away from winning

:28:40.:28:42.

the next US Open. I know how difficult it is to win a Grand Slam.

:28:43.:28:50.

Everything has to be great. So I'm not thinking about that, I am not

:28:51.:28:54.

focusing on that, as I said firmly it is more important what I'm doing

:28:55.:28:57.

day by day and giving myself the maximum chance to play my best

:28:58.:29:02.

tennis. How many years ahead you feel you still have a in new, with

:29:03.:29:11.

players like Federer still going into their late thirties? I think I

:29:12.:29:18.

have a few years left. He is so brutally honest, writing himself off

:29:19.:29:21.

about Wimbledon, what is going wrong? You can understand he hasn't

:29:22.:29:25.

got past the quarterfinals of Wimbledon, so you can ask yourself

:29:26.:29:30.

questions. It is refreshing to have someone just being so honest. It is,

:29:31.:29:35.

not to the party line, but having said that, it would be nice just for

:29:36.:29:40.

one time for him to say, I feel I can win Wimbledon, rather than

:29:41.:29:44.

saying, I feel I can win it. It is always a little bit, you feel that

:29:45.:29:48.

he just doesn't think that he can win this tournament, Queen's or

:29:49.:29:53.

Wimbledon. But I do believe that he has got the game to, but if he

:29:54.:30:01.

doesn't believe it, then that is that. The courts are playing, they

:30:02.:30:05.

bounce higher than they used to and they are slower than they used to

:30:06.:30:08.

be, maybe not here but certainly at Wimbledon.

:30:09.:30:16.

You have to look at nadal. Wawrinka has weapons that on this surface are

:30:17.:30:26.

so pure. In the old days when the bounces were down by the ankles it

:30:27.:30:29.

was a different matter. Now it's playing like a hard court and there

:30:30.:30:34.

is no reason why he can't play well on this surface. He is going to need

:30:35.:30:38.

to play well today, up against Three-times quarter-finalist at

:30:39.:30:50.

Wimbledon. Huge serve, had an amazing tournament in Stuttgart. He

:30:51.:30:56.

is a man in form. And used to this surface. He is a class player on a

:30:57.:31:04.

lot of surfaces but this surface, he is Spanish but it's almost like he

:31:05.:31:08.

was born here. It's made for his game. Beautiful volleyer. Glides

:31:09.:31:12.

around the court. Good slice approach shot when he needs it. Big

:31:13.:31:18.

forehand. This is a... It's a 50-50 match. Absolutely. Having a weapon

:31:19.:31:24.

and serve and well left-handed. Stan is going to be doing a bit of

:31:25.:31:33.

running. It is going to open up the court. Absolutely right. In some

:31:34.:31:39.

ways you you have to put Lopez as a slight favourite. It's very close.

:31:40.:31:42.

This is going to - should be, if they both play well, could be the

:31:43.:31:48.

best Match of the Day. Absolutely. On grass, movement is so key in the

:31:49.:31:50.

first few matches when you have moved from the clay to the grass.

:31:51.:31:55.

That's what you worry for Stan, taken so wide into those green areas

:31:56.:32:00.

and then being able to recover and get back. If you had a camera on

:32:01.:32:04.

both and see their footwork you will see Lopez is a better mover on

:32:05.:32:09.

grass. He glides on the grass. Stan is sort of, takes two big strides

:32:10.:32:13.

and doesn't bend as well. Lopez is a better grass court mover than Stan

:32:14.:32:16.

Wawrinka. We are seeing Paul there. We know he is going to be wanting

:32:17.:32:20.

him to be more aggressive, to use the weapons and not be afraid to

:32:21.:32:25.

come forward. All those things but I also believe it's mentally. Paul's

:32:26.:32:28.

been with some of the great champions of all time. Just little

:32:29.:32:34.

things that he can say to him before matches, the night before, even one

:32:35.:32:37.

like Stan Wawrinka, they have doubts and we have seen this, he has doubts

:32:38.:32:45.

on grass. I think Paul in some ways, Magnus was never a grass court

:32:46.:32:49.

player, I think they've brought him in to give extra expertise on this

:32:50.:32:52.

surface. I think it's a very good move. It seems to be the done thing

:32:53.:32:58.

now. You bring in someone, even if it's on a part-time basis, but it is

:32:59.:33:03.

important that it is almost like a sponge, you absorb information that

:33:04.:33:05.

you can get from these players. Absolutely. Again a lot of people

:33:06.:33:09.

don't realise, they see these players and they look calm and you

:33:10.:33:11.

think they don't get nervous. They do. Even the great ones get nervous

:33:12.:33:16.

and to have someone in your camp that's been there and done it as a

:33:17.:33:20.

coach or player adds that extra little dimension, the difference

:33:21.:33:23.

between a couple of points here and there, it can make the difference of

:33:24.:33:29.

winning or losing. Thanks. John has said Lopez the favourite. We have

:33:30.:33:34.

already seen Milos Raonic go out. Andy Murray is next on court and he

:33:35.:33:43.

will be facing Jordan Thompson, not Aljaz Bedene. He is out with an

:33:44.:33:47.

injury. John is on his way now to join Andrew.

:33:48.:33:55.

Sue, thank very much. With all the matches Lopez had in Stuttgart,

:33:56.:34:06.

three 3-set victories those were all in three sets before losing in the

:34:07.:34:11.

final. This match has had matches. He has had wins and has had success.

:34:12.:34:14.

Stan Wawrinka has been having success on the clay but it's nothing

:34:15.:34:19.

like this surface. The first 20, 25 minutes or so are going to be

:34:20.:34:27.

interesting to see if there is a honeymoon period for Wawrinka on

:34:28.:34:29.

this surface. Quite an intriguing match.

:34:30.:34:39.

Temperature is 30 degrees. Well up into the 80s here in west London.

:34:40.:34:42.

Everyone settling in. The third Match of the Day. Murray to come.

:34:43.:34:46.

But a corker coming up here. Maybe.

:34:47.:34:56.

It's almost as though Wawrinka just needs to get a feel for how dominant

:34:57.:35:08.

he could be on this surface. And get comfortable with that and settle

:35:09.:35:14.

into it. Because he does have a powerful first serve. That one

:35:15.:35:18.

coming in at 132mph. He has his Wimbledon whites out

:35:19.:35:35.

already. Some players going for that look, even now. You are allowed to

:35:36.:35:44.

wear coloured clothing here. A tidy start.

:35:45.:35:49.

Somebody like Wawrinka and Lopez, they'll have a new suitcase worth of

:35:50.:35:59.

equipment delivered. New frames. New rackets. Certainly new tensions in

:36:00.:36:07.

the strings for a different surface. Yes, I always strung my rackets

:36:08.:36:15.

looser on grass, just because you would get those mis-hits. Not sure

:36:16.:36:25.

if that's the way most players do. So you thought an off centre hit,

:36:26.:36:28.

you are more likely to get on the grass courts of old, you would

:36:29.:36:35.

prefer a slacker racket? Also because you have so many bad bounces

:36:36.:36:39.

back in the day. You couldn't take a long swing at the ball. By stringing

:36:40.:36:46.

the rackets looser you could get more power with a shorter swing.

:36:47.:36:54.

Wow. 131mph. Up and almost hit the ball girl back there. She will need

:36:55.:37:02.

to pay attention. The return, the chipped return deep

:37:03.:38:04.

was something that Paul was talking about this morning. Nullify your

:38:05.:38:06.

opponent but make it firm. You can't just drop it in the middle of the

:38:07.:38:15.

court. He will have been pleased with what he saw there from

:38:16.:38:17.

Wawrinka. That's really strong. That's a solid

:38:18.:38:35.

return on a grass court. Former coach to Federer, Sampras,

:38:36.:38:56.

Henman. Came out of Tennessee University, quarter-final of

:38:57.:38:59.

Wimbledon that year, 1984. He came as the number one college

:39:00.:39:23.

ranked player, he was a real star, had a fine career himself. He came

:39:24.:39:29.

to Wichita because that was the mecca of college tennis, that was

:39:30.:39:35.

where everyone wanted to go! East coast, West Coast superiority you

:39:36.:39:42.

have got, because you only ever flew over Kansas!

:39:43.:39:45.

It's boiling hot here! 36 degrees. 65 plus 32... This will take all

:39:46.:40:15.

night! Take away the... About 94, something like that, in the sun, of

:40:16.:40:22.

course. Take away the square root of the length of the grass... 97.

:40:23.:40:26.

The car park at the back where they have metal grating on the floor got

:40:27.:40:33.

to 43 degrees yesterday. A nice tan on the net from the

:40:34.:40:40.

reflection, so it's all worth it. Getting the ball very cleanly, both

:40:41.:41:58.

players hitting the ball cleanly. Impressed with Wawrinka so far. No

:41:59.:42:02.

breaks of serve. Andy Murray coming up later. We will look forward to

:42:03.:42:08.

that. We have already seen a shock today really with Kokkinakis beating

:42:09.:42:12.

Milos Raonic. Spare a thought as the temperatures push up to the mid 30s

:42:13.:42:18.

and beyond, for the security gentlemen at the side of the court

:42:19.:42:26.

here, wearing a heavy dark suit. Neatly done up tie. Right to the

:42:27.:42:28.

top. That must be a size 20 I agree, it's quite comfortable,

:42:29.:42:56.

certainly what they're used to. However, the sun is hot. If this

:42:57.:43:05.

match goes into the two-and-a-half, three-hour range, then guys will

:43:06.:43:10.

struggle. Not too much humidity compared to some places they play.

:43:11.:43:19.

Exactly. The grass court tennis I think is more onerous on players in

:43:20.:43:23.

the regard they have to bend their knees more. The ball stays lower. To

:43:24.:43:31.

move properly on this surface you do have to get down. The rallies are so

:43:32.:43:39.

short I don't think we are going to see many guys struggling

:43:40.:43:43.

stamina-wise. Some great news actually for British

:43:44.:44:07.

tennis today, specifically for Liam Brody who had a good result here in

:44:08.:44:19.

the qualifying. He beat an American player in the first round. He is

:44:20.:44:26.

going to get into the draw as a lucky loser.

:44:27.:44:34.

He is going to be playing Jeremy Chardy later on.

:44:35.:44:47.

So Herbert, who was a lucky loser himself, which is the highest ranked

:44:48.:44:55.

person who lost in the final round of qualifying, it's getting to the

:44:56.:44:59.

point now, three lucky losers, so if you won one round in qualifying you

:45:00.:45:03.

were virtually assured a place in the main draw, as it turns out.

:45:04.:45:05.

Anyway, Brody is in, which is good. We are sitting near that side line,

:45:06.:45:21.

that looked like it was worth a challenge.

:45:22.:45:27.

This is why he is an horrific draw. Wonderful record. Four Davis Cup

:45:28.:46:01.

finals. 13 years in the top 50 consistently.

:46:02.:46:07.

Thank you very much! Two wins on the grass courts in Eastbourne. . So

:46:08.:46:21.

comfortable on the grass. Has had the same coach for a while. Remember

:46:22.:46:28.

that match the final here in 2014 I believe it was, I am certain he had

:46:29.:46:35.

a match point against Dimitrov. Ultimately losing that in three

:46:36.:46:39.

tie-breaks. He also beat raffle Nadal here in

:46:40.:47:00.

2010. So that's the pedestrian Gray. I like it when he holds the finish.

:47:01.:47:10.

A statuesque tennis player. There is a bit of glamour about Lopez.

:47:11.:47:40.

Yeah, he clearly looks after his body very well. Still gets around

:47:41.:47:48.

the court beautifully aged 35. His forehand side is the weakest.

:47:49.:48:32.

Will miss on that side where he can go a whole match without missing on

:48:33.:48:35.

the backhand, as long as he doesn't come over the backhand. It's a

:48:36.:48:40.

sliced backhand which is his strength.

:48:41.:48:46.

So no breaks of serve. Pretty intriguing match. Just under a

:48:47.:48:54.

quarter of April hour played. Round one with Stan Wawrinka 3-2 up on

:48:55.:48:59.

Feliciano Lopez. STUDIO: We will be back with this

:49:00.:49:02.

match. A couple of results to bring you. A big upset here, Thanasi

:49:03.:49:10.

Kokkinakis has put out Milos Raonic, last year's runner-up. He has had 18

:49:11.:49:14.

months out with a variety of injuries and needed a wildcard to

:49:15.:49:19.

come back. He was such a talented player a couple of years ago. It's

:49:20.:49:23.

great to see him back at his best. Worrying times for Milos Raonic.

:49:24.:49:26.

Finalist here and at Wimbledon. He looked out of sorts. Far too many

:49:27.:49:31.

errors. Well, he may need to play down at Eastbourne to get match

:49:32.:49:35.

play. But this young man, wonderful celebration from him and well

:49:36.:49:45.

deserved. On court number one Julian Benneteau has put out James Ward of

:49:46.:49:50.

Great Britain. Ward took a while away from the tour. He was beaten

:49:51.:49:53.

soundly. It's great to see James back on a tennis court. We wish him

:49:54.:50:00.

well. Just too good, Julian Benneteau today. We are watching

:50:01.:50:05.

Stan Wawrinka at the moment. Andy Murray will be next on court, he

:50:06.:50:09.

will be playing Jordan Thompson because Bedene has been forced to

:50:10.:50:12.

withdraw with a wrist injury. But the defending champion will be on

:50:13.:50:17.

Centre Court this afternoon. A couple of quick results from

:50:18.:50:30.

Edgbaston. Johanna Konta has gone through.

:50:31.:50:41.

Sue, thank you for the round-up and the update. No breaks here. First

:50:42.:50:47.

round match. As we get ready to enjoy Andy Murray

:50:48.:51:27.

after this match, news emerging this morning that he is going to donate

:51:28.:51:30.

his winnings from this championship to the families of the victims of

:51:31.:51:34.

the Grenfell Tower fire tragedy which took place no more than two

:51:35.:51:39.

miles away from here. Good for him. Yeah.

:51:40.:51:44.

First prize here, he has won it five times, first prize is ?350,000.

:51:45.:52:02.

In fact, at the French Open when he finished one of the matches, the

:52:03.:52:09.

first thing he said was about the London Bridge and Borough Market

:52:10.:52:13.

Tower attacks, he was quick to talk about that. He has become a fine

:52:14.:52:18.

spokesman for all these issues, showing he is not just thinking

:52:19.:52:23.

about tennis, it's been good to watch.

:52:24.:52:38.

Lopez is so much more solid off the ground than he ever has been in his

:52:39.:52:48.

career. Aged 35 and he hits the ball better than he ever has. I suppose

:52:49.:52:55.

there's nothing unusual about that. Guys always improve their shots as

:52:56.:53:01.

they go on. The problem becomes just getting to the ball! No doubt.

:53:02.:54:41.

UMPIRE: New balls, please. Somebody has just walked past the commentary

:54:42.:54:48.

box with a whole load of iced coffees. That would be nice,

:54:49.:54:53.

wouldn't it? You are and American, you would like an iced coffee? In

:54:54.:55:04.

fact, they might have been Baileys. Yeah, that makes more sense! It

:55:05.:55:09.

would also be most welcome. A stretchy band there to loosen off

:55:10.:55:14.

the hip flex or perhaps warm the tendon up in the knee? That's

:55:15.:55:17.

unusual to see that being mobilised in the middle of a match, Peter.

:55:18.:55:24.

Yeah, it is. Interesting. He must have some sort of a knee issue.

:55:25.:55:35.

Because it's not the sort of thing that if you have... Tennis players

:55:36.:55:42.

ordinarily do so much strengthening of their quads and hip flexors.

:55:43.:55:48.

Usually if they're having an issue it's that those muscles are too

:55:49.:55:58.

strong, too tight. You really wouldn't want to try to strengthen

:55:59.:56:01.

them more. Towards the end of this first set

:56:02.:56:22.

now. Probably 6,000 people in this wonderful Centre Court at Queen's

:56:23.:56:23.

Club. Yeah six or seven was the capacity

:56:24.:56:40.

here previously. Really difficult serve, isn't it?

:56:41.:57:06.

Lopez is so effective with the slice out wide that if he gets the flat

:57:07.:57:12.

one working up the middle he is virtually unplayable. You almost

:57:13.:57:17.

have to hope that he donates a few missed first serves to have any sort

:57:18.:57:20.

of chance. That's an interesting doubles match

:57:21.:57:33.

going on, so that might account for 1,000 or two people missing from

:57:34.:57:36.

this intriguing first match. A nice adjustment there, Stan

:57:37.:58:54.

Wawrinka had to wait as the ball checked. It was really awkward. An

:58:55.:59:02.

interesting move from Wawrinka because he had Lopez out of the

:59:03.:59:15.

court so far, the Spaniard played a really deft little finesse shot.

:59:16.:59:50.

Just as we were celebrating Liam Brody from Manchester getting into

:59:51.:59:58.

this draw, he is playing Chardy later as a lucky loser. He lost in

:59:59.:00:01.

the qualifying in the second round. He got a lucky loser position into

:00:02.:00:05.

the draw because somebody retired, he was the next highest ranked

:00:06.:00:11.

player to get in. Dan Evans, this calf injury he sustained in the

:00:12.:00:17.

quarter-final of a Challenger Event a couple of weeks ago has kept him

:00:18.:00:22.

out. Took him out last week, as well. So that is a real shame for

:00:23.:00:29.

Dan. He is out of Eastbourne next week. 54th in the world, playing so

:00:30.:00:36.

well. He retired against DustinBrown with that calf injury.

:00:37.:00:47.

Calf injuries are so pesky, they hang around longer than you would

:00:48.:00:50.

ever like. I think he will be looking on

:00:51.:01:26.

contentedly right now. I miss last Wawrinka has maintained a nice calm,

:01:27.:01:33.

and held serve routinely every time. He hasn't got to upset by the fact

:01:34.:01:39.

he's not won a whole lot of return points. That's how you have to be,

:01:40.:01:47.

you have to be very easy going to do well on this surface.

:01:48.:01:58.

There have been 32 points played on the first serve and only three times

:01:59.:02:24.

has the receiver won the point. That was a very tidy game, just when

:02:25.:02:43.

the pressure might have been on, you would have thought. Just one minute,

:02:44.:02:53.

13 aces between these two. So we haven't had any periods of play, and

:02:54.:02:58.

the episodes of play where both have played well together yet, not

:02:59.:03:12.

really. Both just playing well. And what a difference in the pace of

:03:13.:03:18.

play from the first match. They played two sets. These guys have

:03:19.:03:25.

almost played a full set and been on court 28 minutes.

:03:26.:03:36.

That hit the line as well. The rocket goes back, looking to come

:03:37.:04:21.

Wawrinka showing frustration not the ball hit the line once again. So

:04:22.:04:32.

that one checked, and the slice backhand off low -- Lopez skidded

:04:33.:04:40.

through the court, so the Frink are not coming to terms with how the

:04:41.:04:45.

ball is going to come off the court surface. Just wide. I think that

:04:46.:04:49.

might have hit the line. You are not allowed to bed in

:04:50.:05:04.

tennis. -- bet. Lovely settler for Wawrinka as he

:05:05.:05:46.

finds his range on this beautiful single-handed backhand. Looks pretty

:05:47.:06:03.

comfortable. That's not the short low wanted Wawrinka to settle on.

:06:04.:06:44.

Lovely play. Really superb volley, back behind Feliciano Lopez. Left

:06:45.:06:55.

with very few choices after that volley. That is a volley of

:06:56.:07:03.

know-how. Lopez forced him to work for that point.

:07:04.:07:22.

Strangely enough, these to haven't played since 2014, considering Lopez

:07:23.:07:30.

is consistently in the top 35 of the world, Wawrinka in the top five of

:07:31.:07:36.

course. But it is for- to in the head-to-head so they have played six

:07:37.:07:41.

branches. The last encounter was on the grass at Wimbledon in the fourth

:07:42.:07:56.

round. Wawrinka won. Do feel free to get in contact with us. We have

:07:57.:08:03.

Queen's this week, and we have got next week Wimbledon qualifying, as

:08:04.:08:06.

well as Eastbourne tennis, the women's tennis from Eastbourne,

:08:07.:08:20.

you can get in touch with hashtag tennis and we will do our best to

:08:21.:08:33.

give answers. Yes, do our best, fail miserably! Thursday morning there

:08:34.:08:39.

might be some rain around as a cold front comes through. Then Friday,

:08:40.:08:45.

Saturday, Sunday should be perfect for tennis. Temperatures in the

:08:46.:08:50.

mid-20s. Yes, but that cold front is coming and going. It's meant to rain

:08:51.:08:57.

for an hour or so, then see you later, so we might get lucky this

:08:58.:08:59.

week. There is only one place that's

:09:00.:09:55.

going. Take cover! You can see Wawrinka working on this

:09:56.:10:30.

push, chip, shove, whatever it is. Naturally Roger Federer does it

:10:31.:10:32.

better than anyone in the game, I would say.

:10:33.:10:55.

The Lopez forehand does make some errors but it was -- it is the shot

:10:56.:11:06.

he likes to go after more than any other. Very aggressive. Tie-break it

:11:07.:11:19.

is. This was always on the cards, wasn't it? Absolutely, no break

:11:20.:11:33.

points in this first set. 36 minutes played, plenty of aces. High quality

:11:34.:11:35.

tennis, simple as that. It is a heavy second serve. You will

:11:36.:12:28.

see quicker speeds, but that's not everything. It's the way it comes

:12:29.:12:34.

off the surface, sliding. And Wawrinka tried to slice that, rather

:12:35.:12:42.

than just block it back. A far more difficult shot. There you go, there

:12:43.:12:45.

is some speed, 128 out wide. Wawrinka has won 18 out of the 19

:12:46.:13:04.

points when he got his first serve in. Very impressive so far.

:13:05.:13:24.

Just long and Lopez was in the rally, which will have delighted

:13:25.:13:28.

him. That's going to fall wide. Just

:13:29.:13:59.

fought for a moment Wawrinka might have over the backhand, after the

:14:00.:14:06.

slip. Yes, he did really well to recover so quickly. Very strong

:14:07.:14:10.

legs. That has been noted. Prowls around the court sometimes,

:14:11.:14:44.

Lopez. When he moves well, he moves even slower. It's been a first-class

:14:45.:14:53.

professional match in every regard so far, just very little given away

:14:54.:14:54.

by either player. Not quite... That was the moment of

:14:55.:15:18.

inspiration Wawrinka was looking for. As you say, he struck it well.

:15:19.:15:44.

UMPIRE: Mr Wawrinka has three challenges remaining.

:15:45.:16:01.

Now then, how about that? He misses the backhand crosscourt, but now the

:16:02.:16:07.

first double fault of the match. That was an unforced error from

:16:08.:16:38.

Lopez. Exactly right. Second serve, on his more favoured chip backhand,

:16:39.:16:45.

you would expect him to make the -- that most times. It does get just a

:16:46.:16:52.

little tight in these situations. So strong, 116 mph. He was not going

:16:53.:17:05.

to miss that first serve. Superb point. Excellent set of

:17:06.:17:33.

tennis as well. The Spanish are happy. Stand Wawrinka, the number

:17:34.:17:38.

two seed. He will have looked at this draw, known it was difficult,

:17:39.:17:48.

and it is. First set, Lopez. What a point to finish on, and

:17:49.:17:55.

incredible return, and what a shot from Feliciano Lopez. So the number

:17:56.:17:59.

two seed is in trouble out on the Centre Court, but Lopez, who moves

:18:00.:18:05.

so well around the court, wonderful improvisation there, and he is one

:18:06.:18:10.

set up against Stanislas Wawrinka. We have won three times Grand Slam

:18:11.:18:14.

winner on Centre Court at the moment, coming up next another

:18:15.:18:18.

three-time Grand Slam champion... Pities this month.

:18:19.:18:45.

-- it is this man. He starts the defence of his title next up, but

:18:46.:19:00.

not against Aljaz Bedene, he is out because of an injury, he will be up

:19:01.:19:06.

against Jordan Thompson. Not an easy player but it will be interesting to

:19:07.:19:10.

see how Andy looks set on the grass as he starts the defence. Andy

:19:11.:19:15.

practising earlier today, next on Centre Court. A lot of work for the

:19:16.:19:22.

number two seed to do right now. COMMENTATOR: Thank you. Yes, a lucky

:19:23.:19:28.

loser in Acapulco, Jordan Thompson, beating the man we are watching play

:19:29.:19:37.

here, Feliciano Lopez. So the circus that can be this professional tennis

:19:38.:19:42.

game moves to London for this short grass court season but it's a week

:19:43.:19:47.

longer than it used to be, a gap between the French Open and

:19:48.:19:50.

Wimbledon gives some of the stars of the game a chance to recover from

:19:51.:19:54.

their efforts at the French as they prepare for the grass courts of

:19:55.:20:03.

SW19. Before that the Wimbledon qualifying will be televised, next

:20:04.:20:10.

week, that is Monday to Thursday. Also, the Eastbourne women's tennis

:20:11.:20:15.

on BBC television as well before the Championships begin, so there is a

:20:16.:20:20.

lot to look forward to. There is the thermometer here, soaring above 100

:20:21.:20:30.

degrees. Another boiling hot day, in this huge new stand at Queen's Club

:20:31.:20:35.

just serving to increase that sense of pressure.

:20:36.:21:23.

Another of those forehands, keeping his eye on the ball as he did. The

:21:24.:21:32.

last point went over his head. And that is the body serve which he

:21:33.:21:52.

plays for into the right-hander on the left side, so he's got three big

:21:53.:21:57.

serves down the middle on the left side into the body, and out wide.

:21:58.:22:05.

Just to illustrate the accuracy of Feliciano Lopez's serving in the

:22:06.:22:11.

first set, nine aces and no double faults. It is the direction and when

:22:12.:22:15.

you served them that is important. You can see the percentage of

:22:16.:22:22.

unreturned serves. A lot of balls in the green sections. And on the left

:22:23.:22:27.

more, into the body. When these guys are serving as

:22:28.:23:57.

powerfully as they are, it is difficult to get any purchase on the

:23:58.:24:02.

return of serve, so the returns are dropping short and duly pummelled.

:24:03.:24:09.

It doesn't always make the most entertaining tennis. UMPIRE: Mr

:24:10.:24:20.

Wawrinka has challenged the call on the service line. Not seen many

:24:21.:24:25.

rallies so far if I'm honest about it. James Keothavong in the chair.

:24:26.:24:38.

UMPIRE: Mr Wawrinka has two challenges remaining.

:24:39.:25:04.

Probably the best match we have seen on this

:25:05.:25:20.

court, Shapovalov beating Kyle Edmund yesterday.

:25:21.:25:53.

Did that dropping? -- drop in? He made it. Nice shove! Favourite

:25:54.:26:10.

reverse spin to get it back in as well!

:26:11.:26:22.

Unplayable. Wonderful demonstration of serving. Still no breaks. It is

:26:23.:27:52.

one set to Lopez and still in trouble here.

:27:53.:27:58.

SUE BARKER: He certainly is and we have already had one upset today

:27:59.:28:09.

with Milos Raonic, he was beaten by Kokkinakis who has been out with a

:28:10.:28:13.

variety of injuries, but what a come back. What a huge upset, Milos

:28:14.:28:21.

Raonic out. Two tie-breaks here, 7-6, 7-6. Let's hear what he had to

:28:22.:28:26.

say after the match, he spoke to John.

:28:27.:28:32.

How does this affect your preparations for Wimbledon? It is a

:28:33.:28:36.

big frustration and it would have been a lot easier scheduling

:28:37.:28:40.

everything to be here and to have many more matches ahead of me, but

:28:41.:28:45.

that's not the case, but thankfully I go out, I work hard in the gym and

:28:46.:28:49.

on the court and I put in my time. What will you do over the course of

:28:50.:28:55.

the next ten days? A lot of time on court, continuing to get used to it,

:28:56.:29:02.

try to simulate match practice and spent time in the gym.

:29:03.:29:08.

So not going to Eastbourne, he will just try to get as many matches on

:29:09.:29:12.

the practice court as he can, but a big scalp by Kokkinakis, and the

:29:13.:29:22.

number two seed in trouble here. COMMENTATOR: Yes, he is. Hasn't

:29:23.:29:26.

really been troubled on serve, just the one double fault in the

:29:27.:29:27.

tie-break. Andy Murray coming up, as Sue Barker

:29:28.:29:41.

has been telling us. Later, the man who was pressing Milos Raonic for

:29:42.:29:46.

the sixth place world UMPIRE: Mr Wawrinka challenging. The

:29:47.:30:56.

ball was called in. A curious time to challenge. 40-0. . On a close

:30:57.:31:03.

ball like that. That's just throwing one away.

:31:04.:31:12.

What a terrific return of serve. Lopez did well to scramble it back

:31:13.:31:52.

but what was Wawrinka thinking in the follow-up? Thank you very much.

:31:53.:32:01.

Should he have gone down the line? Yes. And should have, at the very

:32:02.:32:10.

least, kept the ball low. To force Lopez to volley up.

:32:11.:33:13.

You know there are easier players to play against if you are not feeling

:33:14.:33:24.

100% after a big French Open run just a week ago, Feliciano Lopez

:33:25.:33:27.

does so many things so well a difficult obstacle to get across, so

:33:28.:33:31.

if Stanislas Wawrinka has anything wrong with him, any niggle at all.

:33:32.:33:36.

And he has been playing with that left knee a bit. Then it'll feel

:33:37.:33:40.

worse playing Lopez and being down a set. Absolutely and if he does have

:33:41.:33:46.

any issue, the fact he will need to bend more on this surface just might

:33:47.:33:54.

exacerbate it. Players tend to get Patelia tendon issues when they come

:33:55.:33:59.

from the clay court to grass because you spend most of the time, just

:34:00.:34:04.

slightly more crouched. You have to use the knees for suspension a bit

:34:05.:34:07.

more, you have to live with it. Venus Williams has had that. In

:34:08.:34:11.

fact, a lot of the women players seem to be injured so much of the

:34:12.:34:17.

time, don't they? Yeah. I don't know why that is.

:34:18.:34:31.

I'm going to call this the poshest sports crowd in the world and ask

:34:32.:34:37.

you if you can name a posher crowd? Nothing wrong with that. I think

:34:38.:34:43.

Monte Carlo country club can compete. I'm sure the entire British

:34:44.:34:48.

summer might compete. Ascot, when lane the likes. -- Henley and the

:34:49.:34:51.

likes. Actually, there are probably some

:34:52.:35:04.

polio events that knock -- polo events that knock this out of the

:35:05.:35:05.

park. What a classic shot. How many of

:35:06.:35:38.

those has he hit over his career? Still looks like he has the appetite

:35:39.:36:06.

for the fight here. He just carved that one. What a

:36:07.:36:19.

beautiful volley. It is quite a late takeback, didn't

:36:20.:37:11.

he? Or he did that time. Sometimes on grass the ball just skids through

:37:12.:37:13.

and catches you out. The alarm bells must be ringing

:37:14.:37:30.

right now. Just slightly overplayed. He went

:37:31.:37:47.

behind Lopez which was the right thing to do. Yes it was a great

:37:48.:37:52.

first serve. Look at the return. Able it get it back to Wawrinka's

:37:53.:37:57.

feet. I don't think he wanted to half-volley that. He certainly

:37:58.:37:58.

wasn't expecting to. Well, over an hour played and that

:37:59.:38:20.

was the first break point. Good effort that. Two break points

:38:21.:40:51.

down, two first serves. He was thinking of letting this go a little

:40:52.:40:55.

bit or taking his foot off the grass, not a bit of it Yeah,

:40:56.:41:02.

sometimes, in smaller events, Stan looks as though he's not totally

:41:03.:41:06.

certain whether he wants to dig real deep. Today, thus far, anyway, it

:41:07.:41:14.

looks as though he does. Thank you. You have ufrp players are ready. --

:41:15.:41:20.

UMPIRE: Thank you, players are ready.

:41:21.:41:33.

Suddenly double faults off the racket of Feliciano Lopez.

:41:34.:42:51.

That's a very nice return. That's firm. He was able it get some body

:42:52.:42:58.

weight behind that and get bite at the other end. Lopez may have played

:42:59.:43:10.

him in with double faults. So, Wawrinka after having pressure on

:43:11.:43:14.

his own serve has two break points of his own.

:43:15.:43:30.

He wouldn't mind having that one back. Yeah, just couldn't quite get

:43:31.:43:38.

out of the way of the ball. It kept sliding into his body.

:43:39.:43:57.

Yeah, he had so much time to hit that ball. It was almost like - wh,

:43:58.:44:21.

wh, what do I do? And he missed it, quite badly, really.

:44:22.:44:32.

On the whole, another stellar serving performance from Lopez. 12

:44:33.:44:40.

aces. Two sets against the world number 3.

:44:41.:44:45.

There we are. And that's 13 and he got out of a difficult situation

:44:46.:45:00.

there, 15-40 down. If you are enjoying in sport and you want to

:45:01.:45:05.

:45:27.:45:33.

something to try near you. Just get up, get inspired and get active.

:45:34.:45:38.

There you go, do get involved. Have a look at that. In fact, we were

:45:39.:45:44.

talking be mass, really, the BBC team down here with Simon Timpson

:45:45.:45:55.

earlier on the Performance Director of the LTA. He was talking about the

:45:56.:46:00.

decline in population across all different sports. Notably in tennis,

:46:01.:46:06.

37% of people start playing in local parks, tennis for free is a big deal

:46:07.:46:13.

nowadays, the LTA starting up with them, that was started by the

:46:14.:46:20.

comedian, Tony Hawkes, so a real push towards grassroots

:46:21.:46:22.

participation as well as the numbers. Hearing some of the

:46:23.:46:27.

numbers, it is so difficult it get people playing sport now, isn't it?

:46:28.:46:31.

I suppose it is. Which is a shame, of course. Female participation in

:46:32.:46:38.

tennis is down. Judy Murray, OBE, involved in trying to get more girls

:46:39.:46:43.

playing tennis, which is good. You really do have to make effort and

:46:44.:46:46.

you have to make sure that football and rugby don't get them first, some

:46:47.:46:48.

of the best athletes. Are there as many tennis clubs as

:46:49.:47:01.

there used to be? No. Well, that was a bit of a mis-hit

:47:02.:47:31.

from Lopez when the ball was waiting to come back to him, and never did.

:47:32.:47:58.

You see that's a good play for Wawrinka. He moves well at the net.

:47:59.:48:06.

A big, athletic guy. Come in and put your opponent under pressure on this

:48:07.:48:15.

surface. Especially a guy like Lopez, who really isn't that happy

:48:16.:48:18.

hitting over his backhand. Just mis-timed his split step here.

:48:19.:48:52.

Off-balance on the volley. Oh, yeah, you can see he is bothered by that

:48:53.:48:55.

knee, just a little. A comfortable feeling at #30e-30.

:48:56.:49:18.

Take a short ball and pummel it away for a winner.

:49:19.:49:42.

We were also hearing this morning from Alistair Marks. We are grateful

:49:43.:49:48.

to him. He is the director of participation at the LTA. We were

:49:49.:49:53.

talking about the relationship with the LTA and local authorities and

:49:54.:49:57.

what is it in places of crumbling infrastructure, how people start to

:49:58.:50:01.

play in parks and in schools nowadays there is not as much tennis

:50:02.:50:06.

as perhaps there used to be, especially at secondary level.

:50:07.:50:12.

You can stand by for a pretty big announcement, I think probably next

:50:13.:50:14.

week, from the LTA. Stanislas Wawrinka, a wonderful

:50:15.:51:42.

five-set victory over Andy Murray at the French Open, on the clay of

:51:43.:51:45.

Roland Garros and he made the final of the Australian Open, loss to

:51:46.:51:49.

Federer in five sets but such was the quality of the other semifinal

:51:50.:51:54.

there, Nadal and Dimitrov, that one almost overshadowed by two great

:51:55.:51:57.

matches towards the end of the tournament. Obviously the

:51:58.:52:01.

Federer-Nadal time was one of the classics as well but a very fine

:52:02.:52:05.

year. It is back to what you were saying Peter Fleming, about him

:52:06.:52:09.

being a big-time player in big tournaments and styles in the

:52:10.:52:14.

slightly smaller events you wonder if he is engaged. -- and sometimes

:52:15.:52:18.

in the slightly smaller events. I think he is today Interesting event.

:52:19.:52:25.

In slams, Wawrinka is 4-4 against number 1s in the world. Outside of

:52:26.:52:32.

slams he is 0-16. Is that right? So he gets inspired on the bigger

:52:33.:52:37.

stages? Yeah. Not a bad trait. No question about that. When he retires

:52:38.:52:44.

people will say - you were good when it mattered most. He has been

:52:45.:52:50.

Olympic gold medal as well with Federer from Beijing in the doubles.

:52:51.:52:55.

It was when he took nag news Norm on as a coach in Portugal. He lost the

:52:56.:53:01.

first set to Albert Ramos and I thought - this is not going to last

:53:02.:53:08.

long but he won from a set down, won the tournament. Magnus Norm there in

:53:09.:53:12.

the middle. Former number 2. Brilliant player. They have not

:53:13.:53:13.

looked back as a partnership. That you will success coming between

:53:14.:53:25.

the ages of 28-32. What a great coach Magnus Norman is.

:53:26.:53:40.

He had all that success with Soderling, prior to Wawrinka.

:53:41.:53:49.

Soderling a French Open finalist. Yes, if you can coach somebody to a

:53:50.:53:57.

victory over Nadal at the French Open, really a massive achievement.

:53:58.:54:00.

Only two people have achieved it. Terrific half-volley lob, to no

:54:01.:54:34.

avail. Oh-oh. Ordinarily that's one of his

:54:35.:56:02.

favourite second serves, the kicker out wide. Of course, it went into

:56:03.:56:05.

Lopez's forehand. That's quite testing of the knee,

:56:06.:57:52.

isn't it? Pushing off to come low and forward for Wawrinka. Smart

:57:53.:57:53.

play. Yeah, but curious tactic from

:57:54.:58:05.

Wawrinka, again kicking the second serve out to Lopez's forehand. #r

:58:06.:59:03.

5-5, second set and some pressure resisted.

:59:04.:59:10.

As you mentioned earlier, Andrew, it's the first serves that come on

:59:11.:00:12.

to Wawrinka's racket that he needs to put into play more often.

:00:13.:00:16.

Because, of course, he is going to be aced.

:00:17.:00:23.

He doesn't put the ones he can reach back into play. He is just not going

:00:24.:00:28.

to break too often. He is struggling to move, Wawrinka,

:00:29.:00:43.

at the back of the court. Certainly didn't move up well to drop shot in

:00:44.:00:50.

the previous game. This one nowhere near, well inside the court here,

:00:51.:01:01.

Lopez. And that is a frustration for Wawrinka as he sees another one

:01:02.:01:04.

disappear past him, but he's hanging in. Lopez is bringing his form

:01:05.:01:14.

straight onto the grass here. Incidentally the other player to

:01:15.:01:24.

beat Rafael Nadal at the US Open was Novak Djokovic. So two weeks away

:01:25.:01:37.

from the next Grand Slam, Wimbledon. Andy Murray will be defending once

:01:38.:01:42.

again the title he won last year with the victory over Milos Raonic.

:01:43.:01:49.

Andy Murray next on court here. That match eagerly anticipated, the

:01:50.:01:54.

return of arguably Britain's finest sportsmen to this arena where he has

:01:55.:01:58.

enjoyed so much success himself, with five championships, and two

:01:59.:02:07.

Wimbledons and the Olympic gold. And Davis Cup victories as well. He said

:02:08.:02:14.

the other day, I have only got a couple of years left may be at the

:02:15.:02:16.

top, Nick Kyrgios came out straightaway and said "Bluffing!".

:02:17.:02:26.

I'm sure he would love to play another five or six years, but

:02:27.:02:31.

sometimes your body does not obey. And of course on those serial

:02:32.:02:37.

winners enjoyed playing once the skills start to wane, once they

:02:38.:02:43.

start to lose more often. It just becomes no fun at all. So that's the

:02:44.:02:48.

challenge, to see if he can stay fit and healthy for as long as possible.

:02:49.:02:56.

Maybe he can take some lessons from Roger Federer because what a master

:02:57.:03:06.

he is at remaining healthy, seemingly in the best shape of his

:03:07.:03:07.

life. Can you understand why he's hitting

:03:08.:03:36.

that serve so often? And punished on it numerous times.

:03:37.:03:44.

Maybe that heavy weighted slice backhand from Lopez is wearing him

:03:45.:03:50.

down, he's getting chiselled down by that. Like that one. You know you

:03:51.:03:58.

are definitely going to have to play the ball and it's likely to be

:03:59.:04:04.

difficult, against Lopez's backhand side. Two points from defeat here,

:04:05.:04:10.

Wawrinka. That's a great play. And it is a

:04:11.:04:27.

play that we have seen him use over the years on any surface, but it can

:04:28.:04:34.

be very effective on a regular basis against a guy like Lopez.

:04:35.:04:49.

This time Lopez elects to go right at his opponents, and Andy Murray

:04:50.:04:56.

could be on court within 15 minutes or so because that piercing passing

:04:57.:05:04.

shot right at Wawrinka has brought up much point. -- match point.

:05:05.:05:19.

UMPIRE: Game, set and match, Lopez. It is the second big shock on Dave

:05:20.:05:30.

two at the Queen's Club, great fortune for Lopez, and the first

:05:31.:05:36.

break of serve brings the match. The number two seed is out, as well as

:05:37.:05:40.

the number three seed earlier in the day. We thought it was going to be a

:05:41.:05:45.

very difficult proposition for Stanislas Wawrinka, coming into this

:05:46.:05:52.

match with Feliciano Lopez in great form, certainly with great grass

:05:53.:05:56.

court pedigree, and we most certainly were right. Lopez played

:05:57.:06:00.

his part, Wawrinka suffering perhaps a little bit with that neat and in

:06:01.:06:05.

the end it was all about the Spaniard. -- suffering with his

:06:06.:06:07.

knee. That was a good effort from

:06:08.:06:19.

Stanislas Wawrinka. Clearly there is a bit of an issue with his left

:06:20.:06:25.

knee. He was exercising that throughout the course of the match.

:06:26.:06:34.

Tiny margins. It was that net call from Lopez, the chip return that

:06:35.:06:40.

brought the break. He's free to soak up the sunshine and the adulation

:06:41.:06:44.

here and we will have a word with him in just a second. Andy Murray

:06:45.:06:48.

will be going through his final few moments of preparation as he returns

:06:49.:06:54.

to British soil. And what a year of tennis in London he enjoyed last

:06:55.:06:58.

year by winning the ATP Tour finals at the O2, as well as winning this

:06:59.:07:06.

title and the Championships themselves at Wimbledon. So Jordan

:07:07.:07:10.

Thompson, the Australian with the chance of having a go at Andy

:07:11.:07:17.

Murray. So Feliciano Lopez has put out Stanislas Wawrinka. Let's get

:07:18.:07:23.

the Spaniard's thoughts now. He's with John Inverdale.

:07:24.:07:27.

Many congratulations, that was a tremendous performance and you are

:07:28.:07:31.

playing really well at the moment, aren't you? Yes, last week was a

:07:32.:07:36.

great week for me. I reached the finals in Stuttgart. Even though I

:07:37.:07:41.

lost the match, I played well the whole week so I came here with a lot

:07:42.:07:46.

of confidence. Tennis is about confidence and right now I'm playing

:07:47.:07:50.

well. I knew it would be tough against Stanislas because he is one

:07:51.:07:55.

of the greatest players in the world. What is it about tennis

:07:56.:07:58.

players in the men's game at the moment in the mid-30s, they are

:07:59.:08:08.

almost on -- unbeatable. Nearly 40 now! I can be considered one of the

:08:09.:08:13.

oldest guys on the tour right now but I feel healthy and competitive

:08:14.:08:17.

to go for a little bit more. Do you think you are better player now than

:08:18.:08:22.

when you first came here a decade ago? Probably because I know the

:08:23.:08:26.

game better, I read the game better, and I know myself also better. I

:08:27.:08:31.

know the way I have to play and this is something you achieve with the

:08:32.:08:36.

years, playing tennis, and this is something very important. Experience

:08:37.:08:40.

means a lot in the game. You got to the final three years ago, do you

:08:41.:08:49.

think you can replicate that this year and maybe go one better? I hope

:08:50.:08:52.

so, it is one of my favourite tournaments to play in front of this

:08:53.:08:54.

beautiful crowd, it is so special for me. It would be great to reach

:08:55.:08:59.

the final but still a long way to go there. It is great to see you back,

:09:00.:09:03.

congratulations. SUE BARKER: He certainly played a

:09:04.:09:10.

great match. Probably not the way Stanislas would have wanted that to

:09:11.:09:16.

end, not for Feliciano Lopez either, but a win is a win and he played the

:09:17.:09:21.

match so well. A wonderful deft touch, so many wonderful disguised

:09:22.:09:25.

shots, great slice and he really knows his way around the grass

:09:26.:09:30.

courts. No great surprise he has caused another big shock here today.

:09:31.:09:36.

Feliciano Lopez is putting out Stanislas Wawrinka. So it is the

:09:37.:09:43.

second upset of the day because earlier Milos Raonic went out, he

:09:44.:09:51.

was beaten in two tie-breaks by Kokkinakis. He made his way back

:09:52.:09:56.

after injuries, but he was such a talent and it's great to see him

:09:57.:10:00.

back. So many people talking about him as one of the big future stars.

:10:01.:10:08.

So Kokkinakis putting out Milos Raonic, and Luciano Lowe as putting

:10:09.:10:14.

out Stanislas Wawrinka. He loves entertaining and he really did

:10:15.:10:17.

entertain the fans out on Queen's Centre Court today. So we have had

:10:18.:10:23.

two big upsets and will we have a third? Because the next is Andy

:10:24.:10:27.

Murray against Jordan Thompson. First let's reflect on what we have

:10:28.:10:33.

seen. This policy are no Lopez makes the game look so easy, the disguise

:10:34.:10:39.

he puts on shots. When you watch him play in a match like that, we say if

:10:40.:10:44.

grass was consistent through the whole year he would be top ten. This

:10:45.:10:50.

surface is made for him. His serve is a joke how good it is, not as

:10:51.:10:54.

powerful as some of the big hitters but the way he manoeuvres it, and he

:10:55.:10:58.

said in the interview he is serving better, he knows what to do with it.

:10:59.:11:04.

Over the years he has realised it is all about placement and his

:11:05.:11:09.

fantastic on this surface. So effective that serve. Interesting

:11:10.:11:14.

with Wawrinka he was flexing mini but movement seems to be his issue

:11:15.:11:18.

on this surface, it is the only surface he hasn't conquered. I

:11:19.:11:24.

cannot imagine a worse drawer for him, is coming off world-class form

:11:25.:11:43.

last week. Lopez misses nothing. You can see that's where it happened and

:11:44.:11:51.

this is such and forgiving surface -- and unforgiving surface. After

:11:52.:11:54.

playing on the clay, to get down to the ball, you have to spend more

:11:55.:12:00.

time getting down low. It is difficult, whether it is the

:12:01.:12:04.

adjustment to the grass or it accumulated through the clay court

:12:05.:12:08.

season, who knows. Another one we will stick on the train to

:12:09.:12:17.

Eastbourne. Milos said he's not going. Whether you can create a

:12:18.:12:22.

match situation on the practice court... He probably needs a rest

:12:23.:12:26.

more than anything else. We saw his partner in Nottingham last week as

:12:27.:12:31.

well so they've enjoyed some great success. He was committed to playing

:12:32.:12:35.

here, and committed to it when he walked out on court. I love how

:12:36.:12:48.

Feliciano described it as like playing on a carpet! It's wonderful

:12:49.:12:53.

how he can produce so many great shots which are effective on this

:12:54.:12:58.

court. And when you are really good crosscourt player, this into her

:12:59.:13:06.

plenty of time on the ball -- grass court player. He did an ace but it

:13:07.:13:15.

opens up the court and that is brilliant. And how he moves forward

:13:16.:13:20.

all the time, he's always looking to disguise that shot. You cannot read

:13:21.:13:26.

that, can you? He knows when to come in, when players are stretching for

:13:27.:13:31.

the ball, he has that deft drop shot when he needs it. He's just an

:13:32.:13:35.

all-round fabulous grass court player. Uses his game. That is

:13:36.:13:45.

something... Who is this? A lot of people have left the stands to get

:13:46.:13:50.

some shade, they will be coming back now as the applause rings out, Andy

:13:51.:13:55.

Murray coming onslaught against Jordan Thompson of Australia and

:13:56.:13:58.

they will be hoping he studies the ship after these big upsets. We

:13:59.:14:06.

wouldn't mind seeing a good match, Jordan Thompson knows his way around

:14:07.:14:10.

a grass court and can play well so it's not a straightforward match to

:14:11.:14:14.

play, new surface but you are talking about someone who has won

:14:15.:14:19.

Wimbledon two of the last four years. And this tournament just the

:14:20.:14:26.

five times! He steps onto this court so different. It was 2005 when we

:14:27.:14:32.

first saw him, gangly thing, and we think about how his life has altered

:14:33.:14:37.

unchanged over the years and watched his development... How his body has

:14:38.:14:44.

changed the years. Who was such a fledgling, now absolutely the

:14:45.:14:46.

finished article and we should enjoy every minute of him because he's an

:14:47.:14:52.

unbelievable player. As a man, to watch that development from boy to

:14:53.:14:58.

man has been brilliant. He's now a real spokesman. On any issue he will

:14:59.:15:02.

give you an intelligent comment on it now, and that includes this prize

:15:03.:15:08.

money donation. Yes, the Grenfell Tower fund. All of his money going

:15:09.:15:18.

to that. And that could be 350,000. Very good he has done that. And this

:15:19.:15:29.

match... He certainly knows his way around the grass court, and for Andy

:15:30.:15:33.

Murray this is a new opponent because he expected to see Aljaz

:15:34.:15:37.

Bedene of Great Britain who pulled out because of a wrist injury, but

:15:38.:15:46.

this guy has beaten David Ferrer, Jack Sock, and he will not be

:15:47.:15:51.

intimidated. I'm not sure how much Andy Murray knows about his

:15:52.:15:54.

opponent. He will know he's a good player but this is where they will

:15:55.:15:58.

have done the scouting and had to readjust because the game plan would

:15:59.:16:01.

have been for a different player, now they have got to readjust. The

:16:02.:16:06.

thing with Andy Murray is it's what he brings on court, his presence. If

:16:07.:16:11.

you are going to get him in a tournament, today is the day in the

:16:12.:16:14.

first round when he's feeling his way on the grass. I shouldn't say

:16:15.:16:20.

that after the two upsets, we don't want another one, but this is the

:16:21.:16:24.

time to get him because once he gets into his groove, he's majestic. What

:16:25.:16:30.

do we think of the red, white and blue? Sensational. I think the

:16:31.:16:37.

shorts will make it through to Wimbledon. Definitely not

:16:38.:16:41.

predominantly white top but he looks the part in every way. Off the

:16:42.:16:47.

court, we don't always have cameras, but the preparation and totality of

:16:48.:16:53.

it and the thoroughness of it. You don't get to world number one

:16:54.:16:56.

without putting in the work and he demonstrates that every time he

:16:57.:17:01.

walks on court. It is a tough ask to walk on court against him and think

:17:02.:17:06.

you will beat him so it will be intimidating for Jordan Thompson. He

:17:07.:17:12.

came here and won his title, then went on to win Wimbledon. He had an

:17:13.:17:17.

incredible close to the season and finishing as world number ones which

:17:18.:17:23.

is something he always dream about. 2017, it hasn't happened for him. He

:17:24.:17:27.

has had shingles injuries as well and that is why his results haven't

:17:28.:17:33.

really been up to it yet. Yes, runner-up in Doha, the Australian

:17:34.:17:42.

Open he didn't really get anything going there, fourth round. We are

:17:43.:17:51.

used to seeing win, win, win down the right-hand side. He played an

:17:52.:17:58.

excellent match against Stanislas Wawrinka and that was readmission.

:17:59.:18:03.

Because he was unwell, especially when there is a youngster in the

:18:04.:18:08.

house, you do catch everything! Little Sofia, we are not blaming

:18:09.:18:13.

her, but you do change, adjustments happen. A quietly difficult, bumpy

:18:14.:18:18.

six months is now out of the way. You can understand it because of the

:18:19.:18:23.

amount of effort he put in playing every tournament because he had the

:18:24.:18:26.

goal of being world number one and it takes it out of you. Then he goes

:18:27.:18:35.

on and has a really hard training session with Ivan Lendl. It is

:18:36.:18:41.

understandable the body can break down. You won't be the first or the

:18:42.:18:46.

last player who has reached number one and had this great year, and for

:18:47.:18:51.

the next year mentally they are just not... It is not that the hunger is

:18:52.:18:55.

not there but they are physically and mentally tired. The work ethic

:18:56.:19:02.

he put in, it takes its toll, then you throw in the illnesses, which

:19:03.:19:08.

may be came because physically he was not quite 100%, and now he has

:19:09.:19:12.

opened up and the French Open to me was the first time we have seen Andy

:19:13.:19:17.

Murray of last year. That's why I make him the favourite for Wimbledon

:19:18.:19:24.

because he is black to his best, very close to beating Stanislas

:19:25.:19:28.

Wawrinka at the French. His preparation will be perfect and I

:19:29.:19:34.

make him favourite for Wimbledon. He has got a lot of points to defend.

:19:35.:19:42.

When you look at the stats, unbeaten in 14 matches on the grass, unbeaten

:19:43.:19:48.

in 17 matches in London, he can just drive home and he's comfortable

:19:49.:19:53.

here. You know he produces his best. We used to talk about how it was a

:19:54.:19:57.

pressure filled situation for British players to play at home but

:19:58.:20:02.

he's well beyond that and it was the final at Wimbledon where he lost and

:20:03.:20:06.

threw off the yoke I think, when he did the interview with you keep

:20:07.:20:12.

showed that emotion. That was such a big moment, everyone fell in love

:20:13.:20:17.

with him, rightly so. Then he won the Olympic gold and he changed.

:20:18.:20:24.

It's interesting, I'm going to do a documentary and I spoke to Andy, he

:20:25.:20:29.

said after that final at Wimbledon he doubted himself and if he would

:20:30.:20:34.

ever win a Grand Slam. What a reaction to beat Roger Federer on

:20:35.:20:38.

the same court a few weeks later in the Olympics, then go on to win the

:20:39.:20:42.

US Open. It just shows you how much of this game is in the mind. It

:20:43.:20:48.

wasn't great then, it was pretty good! But he had doubts over whether

:20:49.:20:53.

he would win a Grand Slam, then Ivan Lendl came along and helped

:20:54.:21:02.

big-time. He also lost four Grand Slams in a row before he won one so

:21:03.:21:07.

he had been there and done that and I think he was a huge instrument in

:21:08.:21:11.

him getting the monkey off his back and winning the first Grand Slam.

:21:12.:21:16.

Now he thinks he can win any time he wants. Absolutely, a great team he

:21:17.:21:22.

has in place. For Jordan Thompson it is tough to come in and do this but

:21:23.:21:27.

he has proven himself. He has come in as unlucky loser, but he won't be

:21:28.:21:38.

an easy opponent. The first match on grass is always tricky. Anyone in

:21:39.:21:42.

the top 100 in the world knows how to play the game, he has won plenty

:21:43.:21:49.

of challenges as well. Started off well in Australia at the start of

:21:50.:21:57.

the year. He is outmatched here but he might just get inspired. This is

:21:58.:22:02.

a surface he knows about, he can move on this surface. Maybe if he

:22:03.:22:08.

can take a set or make a quick start, as John Lloyd was saying, the

:22:09.:22:18.

opportunity is there. Also, he has beaten Shapovalov, and he put out

:22:19.:22:26.

Kyle Edmund. If you are going to put out a high ranked player, you want

:22:27.:22:31.

to put them out in the first round or two. You never know, Andy might

:22:32.:22:36.

start slowly but I doubt it! John has made his way to the

:22:37.:22:43.

commentary box to join Andrew. COMMENTATOR: A glorious day here,

:22:44.:22:46.

and it might not be the opponent Andy Murray was expecting to face

:22:47.:22:51.

but for many today, and it is just about capacity now, it was never

:22:52.:22:54.

really about the opponent, it is about seeing the Wimbledon, Olympic

:22:55.:23:00.

champion. A real shame for Aljaz Bedene that he couldn't be part of

:23:01.:23:05.

it but a real opportunity for Jordan Thompson now. Just a couple of hours

:23:06.:23:16.

ago, perhaps more than that, he was still a losing qualifier, now a

:23:17.:23:20.

lucky loser facing the champion, going for his sixth title at the

:23:21.:23:24.

Queen's, and it will be for Jordan Thompson to get us going.

:23:25.:23:33.

If there is any time to play Andy Murray, it's already been pointed

:23:34.:23:40.

out it might be in the first round at Queen's, just when he's getting

:23:41.:23:42.

used to things a little bit. You won't see a better defensive lob

:23:43.:24:43.

than that this week, I will tell you right now. Brilliant.

:24:44.:26:37.

So, a settler for Jordan Thompson, up and running here. His coach, says

:26:38.:26:56.

Tyson -- Des Tyson. A decent enough player back in the 1980s. A rather

:26:57.:27:03.

empty support box for Thompson than Andy Murray, who has a full house.

:27:04.:28:44.

Brilliant. I think the theory here from Andy Murray was to hit straight

:28:45.:28:58.

down the middle so his opponent wouldn't get any angle. Well, he

:28:59.:29:04.

found an angle. Excellent passing shot from Thompson. He certainly

:29:05.:29:07.

embracing this, doesn't look nervous at all.

:29:08.:29:18.

Just a couple of wild early ones from Murray, and facing a couple of

:29:19.:29:25.

break points. Excellent technique on that volley.

:29:26.:31:08.

That was a very tough shot. Forehand dipping so low. Not only did he get

:31:09.:31:15.

it well but he managed to redirect it so deep.

:31:16.:32:23.

That's unusual. Didn't really commit to that backhand, middle of the net.

:32:24.:33:33.

He is making heavy weather of this. Another opportunity for Jordon

:33:34.:33:40.

Thompson. Two strange errors from Murray. You don't see that very

:33:41.:33:46.

often. One in the middle of the net and the next, about eight feet long.

:33:47.:34:11.

Frustration for Thompson. A real opportunity on second serves. That

:34:12.:34:20.

is That's a good sign for Murray on the second serve. The previous

:34:21.:34:24.

couple were 80 miles per hour. Pretty slow. That was break point

:34:25.:34:28.

down and he hit it at 99 miles per hour. Good pace.

:34:29.:35:16.

A wild swipe and worry saw it out veriually. -- and Murray saw it out

:35:17.:35:26.

eventually. With you we have seen him before, sometimes he can be a

:35:27.:35:30.

slow start in the grass court season and then he gets better and beaten.

:35:31.:35:46.

He is unbeaten in 17 matches. David O'Leary is quite often here

:35:47.:35:57.

watching. Not sure he's part of Thompson's coaching set up.

:35:58.:36:42.

He settled into things quite quickly, Thompson.

:36:43.:37:05.

Beautifully done. Beautifully done. The young man from Sydney, just

:37:06.:37:17.

feeling something there. A brilliant point. Defended so well there. He

:37:18.:37:22.

saw Murray come in. Dropped it as low as he could, but he still had a

:37:23.:37:30.

lot of work to do and flipped that topspin lob over the back of the

:37:31.:37:33.

ball there. Good disguise. Not that many people has as much

:37:34.:38:23.

grass practice under his feet this season.

:38:24.:39:08.

Up over 130 miles per hour for his first ace.

:39:09.:39:39.

Well-played. Well-played indeed Jordan Thompson, another hold of

:39:40.:39:51.

serve.m you ary just briefly looks a bit exasperated -- Murray. He might

:39:52.:39:56.

not know too much about Jordan Thompson. He we'll fill you in. 90th

:39:57.:40:02.

in the world at the moment. He had a decent run in Brisbane where he

:40:03.:40:17.

reached the quarter-final, and he got through to the second round of

:40:18.:40:21.

the Australian Open where he lost in four sets to Dominic Thiem. We

:40:22.:40:25.

mentioned he played the challenger event in Surbiton a couple of weeks

:40:26.:40:30.

ago and reached the final. He lost to a Japanese player. He beat Dustin

:40:31.:40:39.

Brown on the way. He has games. He is at that level where he is just

:40:40.:40:45.

below getting regular ATP events. He plays a bit of challenger stuff as

:40:46.:40:49.

well. So he is mixing and matching. A level certainly way below Andy

:40:50.:40:53.

miles per houry. Not a bad time to play him. When you come in as a

:40:54.:40:58.

lucky lose anticipate you don't know this morning you are playing, you

:40:59.:41:03.

think - what do I have to lose? Exactly. He is a tidy player. He

:41:04.:41:07.

does everything well. Looking at his ground strokes, not a huge weapon on

:41:08.:41:10.

both sides but he makes a lot of balls. His serve is a good, solid

:41:11.:41:18.

serve. We saw one at 130. He is not afraid to come in. Moves well. He is

:41:19.:41:24.

a solid player. He doesn't look in anyway intimidated by who he's

:41:25.:41:27.

playing which sometimes can be difficult in playing in a stadium

:41:28.:41:31.

like this. He is not used to doing that very often. He has played Davis

:41:32.:41:36.

Cup for Australia, which is pretty intimidating in any sort of arena

:41:37.:41:41.

but he is doing very well so far. Andy Murray just not quite there yet

:41:42.:41:43.

but feeling his way into the match. That's twice now he has done that,

:41:44.:42:21.

which is not a tactic you see many players do against Andy Murray but

:42:22.:42:26.

when an 85 miles per hour serve comes in like that and sort of sits,

:42:27.:42:28.

sits up, why not. Well, the anticipation there and the

:42:29.:43:57.

rally. 37 shots, the longest rally of the

:43:58.:44:09.

match. The longest rally of queences, probably in the history of

:44:10.:44:16.

tennis. On grass. Slightly longer than what we saw in the Raonic

:44:17.:44:17.

Kokkinakis match. Instant challenge from Murray. He

:44:18.:46:00.

thinks this is an ace. At least he hopes it is.

:46:01.:46:03.

UMPIRE: Mr Murray has two challenges remaining. A couple of early double

:46:04.:46:23.

faults from Murray. Another service game that dragged

:46:24.:47:21.

out a little bit longer than he would've liked but it is a hold.

:47:22.:49:09.

UMPIRE: Mr Murray is challenging the call.

:49:10.:49:17.

It might be wide, but, no, straight down the middle.

:49:18.:49:25.

UMPIRE: Mr Murray has one challenge remaining.

:49:26.:49:48.

Well, we just saw Jordan Thompson there rocking back for a moment,

:49:49.:49:54.

decided to try the drop shot but execution not ideal. He does look

:49:55.:49:59.

comfortable and relaxed, Jordan Thompson.

:50:00.:50:15.

So another hold and quite a comfortable one for Jordan Thompson

:50:16.:50:21.

who has settled in very quickly to this match. Murray with a few things

:50:22.:50:25.

to ponder. SUE BARKER: Back with this match in

:50:26.:50:33.

a moment but while the men are playing at the Queen's Club the

:50:34.:50:38.

women are playing at Edgbaston. Fist up the two time winner, Petra

:50:39.:50:46.

Kvitova, who is making her return after being stabbed in the hand by

:50:47.:50:53.

an intruder in her home, she beat Smitkova and Jo Konta is through

:50:54.:51:00.

against Tsurenko. They'll head from Edgbaston next week to the south

:51:01.:51:03.

coast, Eastbourne and you will be able to see live coverage from

:51:04.:51:08.

Monday at 2.00pm on BBC Two. We are watching Britain's number one

:51:09.:51:13.

man on court at the moment. You can hear a programme about Britain's

:51:14.:51:22.

number one woman, Jo Konta. That's called The Real Juania Konta,

:51:23.:51:33.

tonight on 5 Live at 9.00pm. Now back to Spencer.

:51:34.:51:43.

You can't help but impressed by Jordan Thompson the way he has taken

:51:44.:51:51.

to this match. A reminder, in case he needed it, that Julien Benneteau

:51:52.:51:56.

had to full out with a wrist injury, so fairly late and Jordan Thompson

:51:57.:52:00.

would've been hanging around as lucky loser. Now the celeb spotting

:52:01.:52:09.

continues at Queen's Club. That is, somewhere in there, Kevin Spicy,

:52:10.:52:10.

under the hat. Well, he has improsed himself,

:52:11.:53:02.

Murray. -- imposed himself. Pinpoint accuracy there from Murray from both

:53:03.:53:03.

the backhand and the forehand side. Well Thompson wants to see the ball.

:53:04.:53:23.

It looked to have clipped the line and swinging away from him.

:53:24.:53:58.

A good deal of variety from Jordan Thompson as well.

:53:59.:55:16.

Ivan Lendl back with Andy miles per houry. Touring with him. He spends

:55:17.:55:23.

about 18 weeks of year with Murray. -- Andy Murray. He was back for the

:55:24.:55:28.

French. Was supposed to be with him in Miami but Murray had to pull out

:55:29.:55:34.

with a right elbow injury. So by no means a permanent fixture but they

:55:35.:55:38.

talk a couple of times a week on the phone.

:55:39.:55:52.

Saw nothing of the ball, so asked the question.

:55:53.:57:04.

Good rally again. Jordan Thompson is hanging in with him in these

:57:05.:57:13.

rallies. That's a nice view, isn't it? A lot of cameras there.

:57:14.:57:33.

Well a hold to love for Jordan Thompson. You would say he looks the

:57:34.:57:58.

better player at the moment, fractionally. Goodness me a few

:57:59.:58:08.

beers have been tucked away there. Not in the ultra--professional

:58:09.:58:16.

coaches' box. You will see Ivan Lendl and Jamie Delgado

:58:17.:58:19.

alonghoodside him there and his trainer. Delgado is with him all the

:58:20.:58:25.

time and Lendl appears for the big occasions, the grass court season

:58:26.:58:30.

and there is a lot of speculation between Murray's success and whether

:58:31.:58:34.

Lendl is actually on site. Murray says - well, it's not that important

:58:35.:58:38.

but people look at the results and wonder if he would do better if

:58:39.:58:42.

Lendl was there all the time? That's never going to happen, though? No,

:58:43.:58:48.

we could certainly say Lendl is a good reason why Murray won his Grand

:58:49.:58:52.

Slams at the beginning, to get him over that hump. He is an important

:58:53.:58:57.

part of the team but Jamie Delgado has come in well and Andy Murray, he

:58:58.:59:04.

knows what he has to do now. He has a good team around him, physios,

:59:05.:59:09.

trainers and so on and it is just ticking over and to bring it in

:59:10.:59:12.

sometime, now and then. As I say, we were talking about this

:59:13.:59:23.

earlier with Milos Raonic, the higher up the game you go, the

:59:24.:59:29.

bigger your support team because you can afford to have the very best and

:59:30.:59:35.

have a large team travelling with you. Yes. And that will make a big,

:59:36.:59:43.

big difference as well. But Murray serving. New balls. We are just

:59:44.:59:50.

waiting at the moment for a few near the commentary box here to sit down,

:59:51.:59:52.

settle, settle, settle. Murray still waits. Right behind

:59:53.:00:04.

Jordan Thompson. A comedy run does not get you out of

:00:05.:00:19.

it. Well, it almost did. Andy Murray is ready. New balls. 3-4.

:00:20.:01:30.

Tough shot to make, very shrewd shot for Murray, just dropping that slice

:01:31.:01:36.

backhand well enough. -- low enough. Better from the world number one, a

:01:37.:02:03.

hold to love. It had been an interesting season to say the least

:02:04.:02:08.

up to the French Open, a worrying lack of form on the clay court but

:02:09.:02:11.

he definitely found something at Roland Garros.

:02:12.:02:43.

The wild mis-hit return there from Murray.

:02:44.:02:50.

Here is the interesting point, at 4-4, where the best players in the

:02:51.:02:54.

world just find something. Or not. That error there. It was a

:02:55.:03:33.

very makeable forehand, slapped the top of the net.

:03:34.:04:02.

If Thompson's level dips at all, Murray will pounce. This was a

:04:03.:04:07.

slight miscue. He closed that one out very

:04:08.:05:07.

impressively. Look to be stumbling slightly, Jordan Thompson. Again, a

:05:08.:05:15.

reminder of the season Murray had, we talked about his dip in form to

:05:16.:05:20.

say the least. He won in Dubai in February beating the dust go, but

:05:21.:05:26.

the list of players who lost to in the clay court season, as we do our

:05:27.:05:32.

very best to lip read, Dominik team, Alberto Ramos, but not just on the

:05:33.:05:39.

clay, he lost in Indian Wells. It's almost as if, and again they were

:05:40.:05:48.

talking about this in the studio beforehand, when he reached number

:05:49.:05:55.

one in the world and won the Olympic gold, to follow that up is

:05:56.:05:58.

difficult. There is not much break in the calendar year. Then you have

:05:59.:06:08.

got put in a training block to get ready for the Australian Open. It

:06:09.:06:13.

comes around quick, and when you put the sort of intensity and work Andy

:06:14.:06:18.

Murray did, and the success week after week, reaching most of the

:06:19.:06:22.

finals, it takes its toll and I just think combined with the illness, the

:06:23.:06:27.

injury, it was a natural reaction and wasn't that surprising, but I

:06:28.:06:32.

think he has now planned his year well. Losing some of those matches

:06:33.:06:36.

earlier than he hoped, I think he's actually well rested now and the

:06:37.:06:41.

French was a fabulous event for him. That was when he was back to his

:06:42.:06:45.

best, good preparation for the grass when you have such a good run on

:06:46.:06:49.

clay, it gives you a lot of matches in the tank.

:06:50.:07:19.

You can see there Thompson wanted to hit that and come in. His doormat

:07:20.:07:26.

couple of times but the second serve was deep enough that he couldn't

:07:27.:07:40.

convert the approach shot. You can see Murray trying to lift himself,

:07:41.:07:46.

it is a familiar sight sometimes when he feels he's just not firing.

:07:47.:08:27.

A little bounce off his legs. As crew will try to lift him as well.

:08:28.:08:38.

Not a huge amount of energy in the crowd, you are not going to ride off

:08:39.:08:43.

the back of that, you have to generate something yourself. Find

:08:44.:08:49.

people though they are. I think a lot of them have got sunstroke! Not

:08:50.:09:03.

much energy. Correction from the umpire and the line judge.

:09:04.:09:29.

He is serving well too, 70% of first serves in now. When he gets his

:09:30.:09:40.

first serve in, he has won 17 out of 22 points. Against someone like

:09:41.:09:42.

Murray, that is very good. -- not a smile of joy at the moment

:09:43.:11:04.

from Andy Murray. Thompson moves on. At the very least

:11:05.:12:26.

a tie-break to him, and Murray gave a long look to his box after that

:12:27.:12:31.

one. It just shows the standard of tennis these days on the men's side,

:12:32.:12:37.

the women's is strong, but when you think that Thompson is a lucky loser

:12:38.:12:43.

coming up against the number one in the world. Not intimidated by whom

:12:44.:12:48.

he is playing. He is coming out and showing the variety in his game,

:12:49.:12:52.

taking Andy Murray on. He's not scared, he has been coming in behind

:12:53.:13:02.

Andy Murray's serve sometimes. It's an impressive performance. I wonder

:13:03.:13:06.

how many hours before the match he knew he would be playing, whether he

:13:07.:13:11.

had heard rumours about Aljaz Bedene or not, whether he was surprised by

:13:12.:13:19.

coming into this match. Yet -- yes, we found out about midday. He has

:13:20.:13:25.

never been beyond a second round of the Grand Slam event, that is the

:13:26.:13:29.

level he's out, still fairly young at 23. But it shows the strength and

:13:30.:13:35.

depth in tennis. You contrast that with Andy Murray's

:13:36.:13:59.

Grand Slam level. It is in itself an astonishing record consistency at

:14:00.:14:02.

the highest level. It is cooling now. Hot enough.

:14:03.:14:22.

When I think about it a little bit more, it is probably the same

:14:23.:14:26.

thermometer but the sun has moved. Jordan Thompson has had some good

:14:27.:15:23.

rallies in this match. He senses an opportunity now. A

:15:24.:16:19.

couple of points away from this first set.

:16:20.:16:40.

What a backhand that was. From Jordan Thompson, it was a heck of a

:16:41.:16:52.

return he hit. This return was excellent.

:16:53.:17:09.

Jordan Thompson willing that to be wide. I think he's going to

:17:10.:17:12.

challenge. No? No. Really extended. That backhand, who

:17:13.:18:01.

was high, a little bit of balance but managed to redirect it so well

:18:02.:18:03.

down the line. Again, that backhand to the corner

:18:04.:18:41.

pays dividends for Murray. It is tie-break time. UMPIRE: Each

:18:42.:19:18.

player receives one additional challenge. What does Murray need to

:19:19.:19:28.

improve? I don't think he's playing badly, just a little bit

:19:29.:19:33.

inconsistent. His shot selection has been off at times. Not quite bearing

:19:34.:19:38.

down enough, a little bit distracted at times but I think you will be

:19:39.:19:42.

surprised at how well his opponent is playing as well. These days

:19:43.:19:46.

there's not many easy matches on the tour.

:19:47.:19:54.

A confident start to the tie-break. He would like to get his first serve

:19:55.:20:06.

percentage up a little bit higher, 53% now. He would like that in the

:20:07.:20:08.

60s. Thompson's mistake. A cry of

:20:09.:21:12.

encouragement from Murray. The first double fault of the match

:21:13.:22:01.

for Jordan Thompson. At rather in opportune moment.

:22:02.:22:12.

See how quick he got in after that serve, he was way outside the

:22:13.:22:31.

service box when he hit that volley. Murray can do it as well. Time for a

:22:32.:22:59.

chat with the coaching box. Just wide. So Thompson with the

:23:00.:24:13.

advantage. Sloppy shot there. His footwork was all wrong, it was the

:24:14.:24:18.

wrong shot anyway but his balance was not right. He is not 100% of the

:24:19.:24:23.

moment I don't think mentally, as well as the way he's hitting the

:24:24.:24:28.

ball. Seems to give cheap points away in the tie-breaker. He needs to

:24:29.:24:32.

get his mind back pretty quick now. Another very impressive serve and it

:24:33.:25:23.

brings Jordan Thompson, the lucky loser, the late replacement for

:25:24.:25:24.

Aljaz Bedene, to three set points. John Thompson has it now, Murray

:25:25.:26:34.

falters again and the world number one, the defending champion, the

:26:35.:26:37.

five-time champion up against it here in the first round at Queen's.

:26:38.:26:42.

Isn't this man taking his chance well. Well, to say that was a

:26:43.:26:52.

surprise is an understatement. I did not see that happening at all, but

:26:53.:26:57.

you have to give credit to Jordan Thompson here. He has come out on

:26:58.:27:02.

court, came as a lucky loser, not intimidated at all by playing the

:27:03.:27:07.

number one in the world. He has served and volleyed, mixed it up,

:27:08.:27:13.

come in behind Murray's serve. Mixed it up with him from the back, drop

:27:14.:27:19.

shots, hasn't seen faced at all by this occasion. He's loving it in

:27:20.:27:25.

other words, which is great to see someone, out and loving it. Murray

:27:26.:27:30.

is not at the races mentally. That tie-break was not characteristic of

:27:31.:27:36.

the way he plays. He played three or four very cheap shots, giveaway

:27:37.:27:41.

errors. It is quite often the statistic we go to with Murray the

:27:42.:27:48.

first serve. If he is down in the 50s, he will struggle a little bit

:27:49.:27:53.

more. When he's in the 60s, he's a very hard man to beat. Less winners,

:27:54.:28:05.

we weren't expecting that. Jordan has handled his serve so well.

:28:06.:28:18.

That's what I'm surprised that. Thompson has a good serve and has

:28:19.:28:23.

very it well today. We were talking about Jordan Thompson going in with

:28:24.:28:27.

nothing to lose, there comes a point in the match when you think, crikey,

:28:28.:28:37.

I could win. We should just concentrate on David O'Leary eating

:28:38.:28:43.

a Magnum at the moment, or perhaps just a supermarket own brand ice

:28:44.:28:48.

cream. I want one of those. But anyway, the man in front of David

:28:49.:28:57.

O'Leary is a very happy coach at the moment, Des Tyson, the coach of

:28:58.:29:02.

Jordan Thompson. It is a dream for a coach. They had a game plan, and his

:29:03.:29:05.

pupil has perfected it so far. Thompson just living with Murray and

:29:06.:30:32.

hanging with him and drawing out the mistake.

:30:33.:32:12.

Well applause. Jordan Thompson thought he had that point. I have

:32:13.:32:21.

seen it so often from Murray. Look to be on the ropes then returns to

:32:22.:32:26.

www. Avengeance and takes the first game of the second set. Let's look

:32:27.:32:32.

at the way Jordan Thompson has been playing, some of his serve placement

:32:33.:32:38.

He is going out for the wings. He is not serving any to the body which

:32:39.:32:43.

you would expect him a little bit but his serve is very strong. A high

:32:44.:32:48.

percentage of first serves. He backs it up. You can see with the one-two

:32:49.:32:52.

strike he goes out to the wings and hardly any balls down the middle. He

:32:53.:32:56.

is going for big shots out to the backhandside and forehand where he

:32:57.:33:00.

is taking advantage of the high percentage first serve and getting

:33:01.:33:04.

ahead in the rally, right afterwards on the first ball.

:33:05.:33:33.

Well, put away over head backhand. Made it look so easy. It's not so

:33:34.:33:44.

easy there to snap that ball shoulder high, like he does on this

:33:45.:33:49.

backhand. He got a really good wrist snap on that one.

:33:50.:34:30.

Oh, Murray a little bit lucky there. Lucky that the net call went over,

:34:31.:35:03.

firstly. That wasn't a very good forehand. He mis-hit it from this

:35:04.:35:09.

position here. He can't be missing those type of shots. He is annoyed

:35:10.:35:14.

at the net calls. That's two or three. Not a single break point in

:35:15.:35:23.

the first set, Murray and now he has three of them.

:35:24.:36:32.

I can't believe that. He really should have made one of those

:36:33.:36:45.

forehand returns 40-0 and 40-15 was on to both and missed them. That

:36:46.:36:50.

forehand was wild. This to me is all sort of mental. He is not quite

:36:51.:36:53.

focussed in at the moment. Again, from 0-40, Jordan Thompson.

:36:54.:37:27.

There has been a couple of mistakes from Murray but he has responded

:37:28.:37:29.

very well. Come on, come on. That's what you

:37:30.:38:07.

like to hear when he does that. That's the positive verbal stuff

:38:08.:38:10.

where he is trying to get himself going. It's the negative stuff that

:38:11.:38:15.

sort of pulls him down a bit. But when he's like that, getting charged

:38:16.:38:19.

up, that's normally when he starts playing his best tennis.

:38:20.:38:48.

Far, far too many - most of the errors are coming off the forehand

:38:49.:38:53.

side. And so it is. What a hold that is

:38:54.:39:42.

from Jordan Thompson, having faced three break points.

:39:43.:40:11.

Lets others do the actual cheering. Sits there, unmoved.

:40:12.:42:44.

Well, another game in the bag but Murray continues to flatter to

:42:45.:42:52.

receive the occasional good stuff. A few wayward ones as well. It's far

:42:53.:42:57.

from convincing at the moment. No, there are a couple of points and you

:42:58.:43:01.

think - OK, now he's really focussed back and then all of a sudden he

:43:02.:43:06.

plays a sloppy point and starts getting negative and he gees himself

:43:07.:43:11.

up. It's almost like he is batting himself a little bit today. Now he

:43:12.:43:19.

looks almost - flat. That's not the right word but almost not quite

:43:20.:43:25.

there. Sometimes, you know, somehow, as his ex-coach Brad Gilbert used to

:43:26.:43:29.

say - you win ugly and sometimes you have to get through. He is by no

:43:30.:43:34.

means playing his best but having said, that his opponent is making

:43:35.:43:38.

life very difficult. He is playing superbly.

:43:39.:43:42.

The winner of this one will play either Cameron Norrie, the wildcard

:43:43.:43:51.

or more likely Sam Querrey who has taken the first set in their match.

:43:52.:43:56.

Sam Querrey, even if Murray were to get through and then it ramps up,

:43:57.:44:09.

you look at poliers the calibre of Querrey and Tsonga and beyond. But

:44:10.:44:13.

sometimes he does that. He loses a set or two and then just gathers

:44:14.:44:15.

momentum. UMPIRE: Be seated quickly, the

:44:16.:44:38.

players are ready. Just a bit of a pause for the late comers.

:44:39.:45:32.

Just stretching out. There was a little bit of Dash few slips. Is it

:45:33.:45:38.

something? No, just felt something. Again, a fairly robust service game

:45:39.:46:37.

from Jordan Thompson. Not too impressive from Murray and just

:46:38.:46:40.

feeling his groin a little bit as well. I notice that Roger Federer no

:46:41.:46:51.

signs of him coming back, after resting out the clay court season.

:46:52.:46:58.

He has beaten a Japanese player in Halle.

:46:59.:47:30.

And Federer will be chomping at the bit, raring to go, because the men's

:47:31.:47:37.

singles in Wimbledon this year are pretty open. I agree. Nadal is

:47:38.:47:43.

playing pretty well but he doesn't do so well as Wimbledon. And

:47:44.:47:49.

Djokovic, not the man he was. Murray, who knows?

:47:50.:48:00.

If gets through this match, I think they'll be spending some time

:48:01.:48:08.

working on the forehand today. The forehand has been awful.

:48:09.:48:39.

Oh, outstanding. Outstanding. He surprised even himself there!

:48:40.:48:50.

The ball was behind him. That is classy. For a moment it was almost a

:48:51.:48:56.

double hit here. Bu just beautiful. They are not just missing, they are

:48:57.:49:14.

going out by miles. I hope you don't think we're

:49:15.:49:30.

focussing on negative play. Thompson has played well but Murray is

:49:31.:49:33.

certainly out of sorts. Facing a break point.

:49:34.:50:10.

It's long. The break is there for Thompson and Murray is a set down

:50:11.:50:19.

and a break down to Jordan Thompson and really up against it now.

:50:20.:50:26.

Well, didn't see this coming at all. Yes, Murray's certainly not playing

:50:27.:50:37.

his best by any means but you have to give a lot of credit for Jordan

:50:38.:50:41.

Thompson there, his game plan - he's staying with Murray in these

:50:42.:50:46.

rallies. He is moving so well. Murray is moving him side-to-side.

:50:47.:50:50.

He is chipping him back and when he gets the chance, he is not afraid to

:50:51.:50:57.

come in. Putting pressure on Murray the whole time Serve has been very

:50:58.:51:04.

good today. A superb performance so far but still a long way to go yet.

:51:05.:51:12.

And all the thoughts racing through his head. Making the transition from

:51:13.:51:18.

the guy, lucky loser - I'll give this a go and now he is thinking -

:51:19.:51:22.

well, I'm on the cusp of something really special here. There's still a

:51:23.:51:27.

long way to go, 3-2 and in matter how Murray is playing, he is still

:51:28.:51:31.

one of the very best returners in the game. So to see it out from here

:51:32.:51:34.

is still a tall order indeed. Now the crowd will come to life a

:51:35.:51:44.

little bit and try enencourage Murray. It's been a quiet afternoon,

:51:45.:51:49.

early evening here at the Queen's Club. But there's been gasps and

:51:50.:51:55.

murmurs around court when Murray was broken there. Because they realise -

:51:56.:52:01.

this is quite serious now. Jordan Thompson, lucky loser, late

:52:02.:52:05.

replacement, is a set-up and a break-up.

:52:06.:52:20.

I mean, you see how far that was out? He has no feel on that side.

:52:21.:52:25.

The forehand side. Jordan top of son will somehow have

:52:26.:52:46.

to control the adrenaline coursing around now.

:52:47.:53:07.

Beautifully done. Beautiful play by Jordan Thompson. I wonder if he

:53:08.:53:15.

might be able to back up that break and so far this service game,

:53:16.:53:20.

flawless. World class. Again keeping with Murray the whole time. Good

:53:21.:53:26.

depth. Very good approach shot. This was not an easy volley. Look at the

:53:27.:53:30.

way he took the speed off there. Just dropped it short. A hold to

:53:31.:53:35.

love after that break of serve. That's as good as it gets from

:53:36.:53:38.

Jordan Thompson. A few hopeful cries around Centre

:53:39.:53:50.

Court of -- come on Andy! And again, again, again on the

:53:51.:54:36.

forehand. Just looks like he's got no confidence on that side and

:54:37.:54:41.

Jordan Thompson is going at that side a will the with those slices.

:54:42.:54:43.

Keeping it low. And Thompson here saw this, knew

:54:44.:56:00.

that Murray was going to come in and just punched that ball low and this

:56:01.:56:02.

is a very difficult shot. Snr no, he has called it out. What

:56:03.:56:53.

play from Jordan Thompson. So Murray will challenge. But what play. Oh,

:56:54.:56:58.

no wonder he is breathing like that. And it is wide. Oh. So, now, Andy

:56:59.:57:13.

Murray facing two break points. To be a double break down.

:57:14.:57:31.

The defiant cry from Murray, trying to clamber out of this hole. Two

:57:32.:58:20.

breaks and it would near enough be over.

:58:21.:59:06.

That's the best trio of forehands we have seen for a long while from Andy

:59:07.:59:15.

Murray there. And boy does he need it.

:59:16.:59:50.

A smile at the silliness of it all. His own form. It's deserted him a

:59:51.:59:59.

little bit today. And again, that forehand fails and

:00:00.:00:13.

Thompson will have another chance. And it's taken a situation like this

:00:14.:00:31.

to bring the crowd to light here at the Queen's Club. . It's surprising,

:00:32.:00:40.

he looks at times, tired. Now they shout. Murray facing break point

:00:41.:00:42.

again. And this one, wide as well. Thompson

:00:43.:01:23.

has it, two breaks to the good in the second set and Murray so close

:01:24.:01:31.

to an early farewell. Now can he find his way back from this. -- how

:01:32.:01:41.

can he find his way back from this? Quite an extraordinary match that

:01:42.:01:44.

Jordan Thompson is playing here. He is hardly missing. Just pushing

:01:45.:01:53.

Murray over and over again in these rallies. Let's look at one of the

:01:54.:02:03.

points in there that really got us going from Jordan Thompson, has been

:02:04.:02:12.

so, so impressive throughout. This rather summed up his play, his

:02:13.:02:22.

attitude. SUE BARKER: Wellheading here for a

:02:23.:02:28.

real shock at the Queen's' club, we're going stay here with the

:02:29.:02:32.

tennis. Eggheads will follow the tennis.

:02:33.:02:42.

If you are coming in and switching on, and expected Julien Benneteau.

:02:43.:02:48.

It was a late change, Benneteau it was supposed to be an all-British

:02:49.:02:54.

affair but Benneteau with a wrist injury, and this man, the world

:02:55.:02:58.

number 90 took his place, he last flost qualifying but a lucky loser

:02:59.:03:03.

and taking full advantage at the moment of his good fortune.

:03:04.:03:17.

Serving now for a victory over the world number 1, the defending

:03:18.:03:20.

champion. And with all the signs we have seen

:03:21.:03:52.

so far from Jordan Thompson, when he has had a little bit of pressure on

:03:53.:03:58.

in the match, he has risen to the occasion. Just felt the greatest

:03:59.:03:59.

pressure. He would not be human, Jordan

:04:00.:04:03.

Thompson if he were not tight now. That was a bit tight on that

:04:04.:05:15.

forehand. It'll take us to matchpoint, which

:05:16.:06:01.

it is. And Jordan Thompson so close now to the greatest win of his

:06:02.:06:03.

career. And he does it with an ace! What a

:06:04.:06:20.

win for Jordan Thompson, but what a shock. One of the greatest upsets

:06:21.:06:27.

Queen's has seen. Five times champion, the world number one, the

:06:28.:06:35.

Wimbledon champion, the Olympic champion, and it's gone. And the

:06:36.:06:39.

hands of Jordan Thompson, the lucky loser, world number 90... What a

:06:40.:06:49.

shock for the crowd. And what a shock for Andy Murray. This is not

:06:50.:06:54.

how it was supposed to be, not how his summer of tennis was supposed to

:06:55.:07:07.

begin. Stunning. The crowd applauds Jordan Thompson, and rightly so.

:07:08.:07:20.

And now the muttering and the gasps and the chat afterwards around this

:07:21.:07:25.

court and Jordan Thompson I'm sure can't believe it. You can see in his

:07:26.:07:38.

face that he can't believe it. A reminder again, he came here via the

:07:39.:07:49.

Netherlands, where he lost, and played the Challenger Event the week

:07:50.:07:54.

before that. Didn't know until this morning that he was going to be

:07:55.:07:58.

playing today, and that's how you take an opportunity. What a victory

:07:59.:08:05.

for Jordan Thompson, but what a shock that Andy Murray is gone so

:08:06.:08:09.

let's get the thoughts of the winner, Jordan Thompson talking to

:08:10.:08:13.

John Inverdale. Jordan, many congratulations. You

:08:14.:08:18.

are not enormously popular here but I'm sure you don't care about that.

:08:19.:08:24.

Is it the biggest win of your career? Definitely, Andy is world

:08:25.:08:29.

number one, I have looked up to him so to play him on Centre Court at

:08:30.:08:34.

Queen's is definitely the biggest win of my career. When you walked on

:08:35.:08:39.

court today, did you walk on thinking I will be happy with four

:08:40.:08:46.

on four or I will be happy taking down the world number one? I

:08:47.:08:49.

certainly didn't expect to win in straight sets, but I wanted to stay

:08:50.:08:55.

calm and I did that pretty well. You lost in qualifying so you probably

:08:56.:08:58.

thought you would go and do some shopping in London for a while.

:08:59.:09:04.

Where you literally hanging around Queen's when somebody said there is

:09:05.:09:08.

an injury and you are in? I was hoping to get a game. I was always

:09:09.:09:14.

coming in, going to try and sign in and here I am, I got in the jaw so

:09:15.:09:19.

lucky. And when you heard you were playing Andy, what were your

:09:20.:09:24.

immediate thoughts? I don't know if I can say that. What a great day for

:09:25.:09:31.

Australian tennis because two upsets... And all Aussie final

:09:32.:09:40.

perhaps? I don't know that, after today's performance anything can

:09:41.:09:44.

happen but I'm not counting on it. It was a fantastic performance and

:09:45.:09:48.

many congratulations. SUE BARKER: What a huge upset, but

:09:49.:09:58.

take nothing away from this man. He think he will re-evaluate the

:09:59.:10:01.

biggest win of his career because today he has put out the world

:10:02.:10:05.

number one, the biggest shock we have seen at these championships for

:10:06.:10:10.

many years. He has played the match of his life and Andy Murray has a

:10:11.:10:15.

lot of soul-searching to do. The forehand particularly wasn't working

:10:16.:10:19.

for him today, just error after error, Jordan and his team

:10:20.:10:23.

celebrating that victory on Centre Court. What a huge shock we have had

:10:24.:10:29.

today, we have lost the number three seed, Milos Raonic, Stanislas

:10:30.:10:42.

Wawrinka, and now this man has put out the world number one, Andy

:10:43.:10:45.

Murray. What a day we have had on the second day of the Aegon

:10:46.:10:46.

Championships. Just say coming up at 6:30pm we will

:10:47.:10:50.

have a chat at that and look back at some of the big so eggheads will

:10:51.:10:56.

follow in about 20 minutes. Peter, we were watching this and you just

:10:57.:11:00.

kept thinking will Andy find his way into the match and it just didn't

:11:01.:11:05.

happen for him. So often in the five years he has won this tournament, he

:11:06.:11:11.

has come out in his first match and not played well. Just looked unsure

:11:12.:11:15.

of himself, and somehow managed to squeeze through. But today it was

:11:16.:11:24.

almost shocking how he fell away in the second set. I don't know if he

:11:25.:11:28.

was physically feeling not well or whatever. He hit the drop shot about

:11:29.:11:43.

a foot wide, it was a terrible shot. It's almost started reeling from

:11:44.:11:48.

there. It's almost like that forehand. We have never seen him

:11:49.:11:53.

play beforehand as badly as he did today. I can't remember, it has been

:11:54.:11:58.

many years. The forehand always used to be his weaker shot. It has

:11:59.:12:04.

improved and now it is a huge weapon. I have never seen him make

:12:05.:12:10.

that many errors. He was missing them sometimes by miles. It was

:12:11.:12:16.

just... I have never... He was really playing off the backhand. On

:12:17.:12:22.

the grass he tends to be more proactive. But when things are going

:12:23.:12:26.

wrong it is so difficult to try to find a way. Huge expectation on him.

:12:27.:12:33.

Exactly. Clearly being the world number one and now having to defend

:12:34.:12:52.

all of these points from tournaments he won last year. Think about it, he

:12:53.:12:53.

won nine tournaments from May until the end of the year. He has a lot of

:12:54.:12:54.

points to defend and he has got to figure out a way to block that out.

:12:55.:13:03.

As you said, he wasn't aggressive. He looked very under par. I don't

:13:04.:13:04.

know if anything is wrong but he never really got himself fired up.

:13:05.:13:09.

You have to say well done to Jordan Thompson. What a match he made Andy

:13:10.:13:15.

Murray play so many balls. Sometimes you look at these players and say

:13:16.:13:20.

how come the ranking be so low? If you look at his game, where was his

:13:21.:13:25.

weakness today? His variation was so good, and big serves. His speed

:13:26.:13:31.

around the baseline on the way he moved, he stayed so low to get back

:13:32.:13:38.

these sliced balls. That punch shot. He was not afraid to come in and

:13:39.:13:44.

rush Murray. It's like every part of his game was working and I thought

:13:45.:13:49.

it was a superb performance. A low percentage of first serves in for

:13:50.:13:56.

Andy, way less than he would have... And first serve points won,

:13:57.:14:03.

Thompson's is so much higher. He had the break points, but wasn't able to

:14:04.:14:07.

win any of them and you forgot to win those points. Yes, what Thompson

:14:08.:14:14.

did so well is chase balls down, and forcing... He made very few unforced

:14:15.:14:21.

errors so he actually forced Murray to try to win the points. Andy,

:14:22.:14:27.

after a few unforced errors, really just didn't want to do it. We have

:14:28.:14:34.

just picked out a few of the shots. Look how well he moves on the court

:14:35.:14:37.

but this is what we have seen so many times in this first week on the

:14:38.:14:42.

grass. The players who have played on the grass, and he has a couple of

:14:43.:14:47.

tournaments behind him, just move so much more confident and you can see

:14:48.:14:52.

Murray wasn't confident in his movement today. I agree, he looked

:14:53.:14:57.

unsure. He wasn't springing off the court and getting the low ones. He

:14:58.:15:03.

looked off-balance a lot, he was all over the place. This goes my theory

:15:04.:15:09.

that with the extra week's practice on grass, we would see less upsets.

:15:10.:15:15.

We lost three today, it just shows if you place on tournaments on it

:15:16.:15:19.

you have that confidence, and Andy today was looking at his box as

:15:20.:15:23.

well, getting very negative the whole time. It was a poor

:15:24.:15:28.

performance by his standards really. There was no physical presence out

:15:29.:15:36.

there. I am the number one in the world, you are not beating me. It's

:15:37.:15:37.

almost like he knew his fate was coming after he lost the first set.

:15:38.:15:42.

No. Just didn't. The French Open, dating back, the good five setter.

:15:43.:15:58.

Has commentary on the marchers, I won, but played garbage. But

:15:59.:16:06.

compared to results earleir in the year... Was coming through those

:16:07.:16:12.

marchers, was not able to against Wawrinka but Wawrinka had played an

:16:13.:16:17.

unbelievable match. Exactly. I think that we all thought maybe he did not

:16:18.:16:24.

play the best in Paris, but getting to the semi finals has got to give

:16:25.:16:29.

him confidence. Where is he now? Clearly, does not feel good hitting

:16:30.:16:36.

the tennis ball. Scary thing. That is what he has been great that,

:16:37.:16:42.

throughout his career. We had this debate, when Raonic went out, would

:16:43.:16:49.

he go to Eastbourne? Wawrinka, no. I do not think Murray will? What do

:16:50.:16:56.

you think Lendl wants? I think the bottom line, it is about him any

:16:57.:17:00.

matches you have had under your belt. The semifinals of the French

:17:01.:17:05.

Open, plenty of matches. He does not need to. It is just a question of

:17:06.:17:11.

getting this correct, the movement, and I think he is going to be

:17:12.:17:16.

absolutely fine. No reason to panic. He has got another couple of weeks,

:17:17.:17:21.

but you worry about the mental side. Going to be on the practice court,

:17:22.:17:25.

drilling himself, getting right mentally. But it is one thing to do

:17:26.:17:31.

that on the practice court. The biggest worry, we do not get to moan

:17:32.:17:38.

about him for the next five days! He'll be home, chilling! We'll miss

:17:39.:17:47.

him! What you want to be out, we're matches? Of course. But he has lost

:17:48.:17:55.

here, early before, done well at Wimbledon. I am pretty certain about

:17:56.:18:02.

that. That is the goal again. It seems to be the case, even Rafael

:18:03.:18:08.

Nadal when he pulled out of Queens, the said I feel awful. It does sort

:18:09.:18:16.

of that springboard. Definitely. No doubt this is hurting preparation.

:18:17.:18:24.

For all three... This is the worst thing that could have happened. You

:18:25.:18:29.

have got the long break without any matches. Andy Murray has done this

:18:30.:18:34.

before. You have got to be lucky to have a bad draw at Wimbledon, first

:18:35.:18:39.

round, threaten you across the best of five sets. Three is different.

:18:40.:18:43.

This guy was ranked 90. 80, 90 can't play on this surface.

:18:44.:19:00.

He is one who can. But even with Andy Murray undercooked, it is not

:19:01.:19:04.

going to be dangerous. Totally different competition. First Monday,

:19:05.:19:13.

walking out... It is different from Queens club. Yes. And we are

:19:14.:19:20.

assuming that Andy Murray will be that Andy Murray that we usually see

:19:21.:19:25.

at Wimbledon. We are going to take a look at the draw in just a moment.

:19:26.:19:29.

We have been talking about Andy Murray going out. Not the only big

:19:30.:19:44.

name to exit. Restarted with Kokkinakis who put out Raonic. Two

:19:45.:19:52.

tie break sets. Incredible story. Such a good talent when he got onto

:19:53.:19:59.

the scene. Almost every part of his body has been aching. But you would

:20:00.:20:07.

not have known that today. Tremendous performance. What did

:20:08.:20:16.

Raonic have to say? The nature of the beast? Some things are going to

:20:17.:20:20.

go against you? You try to accept these things as well as you can.

:20:21.:20:25.

Just deal with it as best as you can. Try to put it behind you. Try

:20:26.:20:29.

to learn from that and be better. How much of an irritant is this, in

:20:30.:20:37.

terms of preparation for Wimbledon? In the bigger picture, not really.

:20:38.:20:42.

Today, it is a frustration, and obviously it would have been easy

:20:43.:20:46.

scheduling everything if I was going to be here, having many more matches

:20:47.:20:50.

ahead of me. That is not the case. But thankfully, I work hard in the

:20:51.:20:57.

gym, on court, put in time. What are you going to do over the course of

:20:58.:21:02.

the next ten days? It is going to be a lot of time on court, get used to

:21:03.:21:08.

grass. Imitating match practice. Spend time in the gym. Get sharper

:21:09.:21:15.

physically. After that, another name crashing out. Lopez was just too

:21:16.:21:22.

good for Wawrinka, the runner-up at the French Open. He was the better

:21:23.:21:29.

player on court. Lopez, fresh from the final at Stuttgart last week.

:21:30.:21:33.

Looking at home on the grass. Always dangerous year, the former finalist.

:21:34.:21:38.

Wawrinka does not have a great record year. He has talked about he

:21:39.:21:43.

does not like the movement on the grass court. Settlement, also had

:21:44.:21:50.

that niggling knee injury. Wawrinka also heading to the practice courts,

:21:51.:21:54.

Lopez going to the second-rate. That amazed moment. We can hear from

:21:55.:22:01.

Stan. With everything that goes by, does losing get easier to deal with?

:22:02.:22:11.

John McEnroe hates it! It is the opposite. It is getting worse with

:22:12.:22:18.

age. I am older, and on the tour... It is never easy to lose. In terms

:22:19.:22:25.

of your plans, US and that you would probably be here until Friday, what

:22:26.:22:31.

do you do for the next ten days? Rearrange the schedule? When I

:22:32.:22:38.

arrived here, I never expected that I would be here for one week. I was

:22:39.:22:43.

just going to try my best, play as well as I could. But what is going

:22:44.:22:49.

to happen, now, I have just finished so it is going to be tough to think

:22:50.:22:58.

about that. Especially after losing. I will meet with my team. We will

:22:59.:23:03.

think a bit. Everybody is going to see what they think about the plans.

:23:04.:23:07.

I am going to need to spend a lot of time on the practice courts, grass

:23:08.:23:13.

courts, getting used to that and getting ready for Wimbledon. We need

:23:14.:23:17.

to do that. I am going to spend a lot of time on that, but not getting

:23:18.:23:23.

tired. Anybody who watched the French Open must have thought that

:23:24.:23:26.

you were physically and mentally almost exhausted. It was an

:23:27.:23:30.

extraordinary fortnight. How difficult to suddenly make the

:23:31.:23:35.

transition from that, the emotional high and maybe low, getting back to

:23:36.:23:40.

the routine, another competition, just getting on with that? It was a

:23:41.:23:47.

Grand Slam. And when I went so far, making the final, it was tough but I

:23:48.:24:00.

was low in energy. Dead, mentally, physically. I needed a few days to

:24:01.:24:04.

relax. But at the same time, Wimbledon is coming, Queens, and I

:24:05.:24:10.

have got so much time to get ready so you just need to push yourself.

:24:11.:24:14.

We decided to come over one day earlier this year to get the best

:24:15.:24:22.

preparation for Queens. I came early with my team. It was not enough for

:24:23.:24:27.

today but hopefully it can pay off for the rest. We will see you at

:24:28.:24:32.

Wimbledon. Peter, you did that match. How was that knee injury

:24:33.:24:40.

affecting his movement? He was not happy, to be staying low. On grass,

:24:41.:24:48.

you have to get down. Bounces are lower. And it looked as though he is

:24:49.:24:52.

probably going to need two, three days off. Probably not much more

:24:53.:24:58.

than that. It did hamper him a little. But again, Lopez was a very

:24:59.:25:08.

difficult first round draw. I do not think Stan is going to be that

:25:09.:25:12.

crushed, losing today. Set back, but... I think he can pull himself

:25:13.:25:20.

together. Against Lopez, we sort of suspected the opposite, but as far

:25:21.:25:24.

as Raonic is concerned, that is a big shock. I could not say that one

:25:25.:25:32.

coming at all. Raonic was not sharp. That was always going to happen.

:25:33.:25:35.

Returns of serve, poor. Not taking any of his chances. He was looking

:25:36.:25:48.

rusty on grass. And he has that sort of player. Not a natural mover, he

:25:49.:25:57.

has only got to break serve once and then it is sick over. He is going to

:25:58.:26:05.

be fine at Wimbledon. It is interesting, Wawrinka out in round

:26:06.:26:11.

one. Roger Federer won over in Halle. One more, top four. Seeded in

:26:12.:26:22.

the top four. Avoiding the big players to the quarterfinals. We

:26:23.:26:30.

have lost some of the seeds today. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga find Dimitrov

:26:31.:26:35.

will be happy. But still so many good players. Isner. Cilic. Still

:26:36.:26:45.

some big players? Absolutely. So many good players. We talk about the

:26:46.:26:52.

big four. Parity is becoming a greater issue. So many guys play

:26:53.:27:00.

great tennis. I do not know who is going to win, Simon, Muller, tough

:27:01.:27:10.

for Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. Dimitrov on center Court tomorrow. Mahut

:27:11.:27:21.

possibly playing next round. You have got Tomas Berdych, nobody ever

:27:22.:27:26.

talks about him. Former finalist at Wimbledon. He is going to fancy his

:27:27.:27:32.

chances. A lot of very good players. Absolutely. That is the draw. We

:27:33.:27:35.

will be back tomorrow, for day three. Just a little bit later on

:27:36.:27:43.

ABC two. Also on the red button, from 12 o'clock. Final thoughts,

:27:44.:27:48.

about Andy Murray? He has just gotten pick himself up? Class grass

:27:49.:27:58.

court player. Bad day. Rest, back to business. I think he will be fine

:27:59.:28:04.

for Wimbledon. No need to panic. Thank you. Still more tennis!

:28:05.:28:10.

Believe it or not, but it is on the red button. Cilic against Isner, met

:28:11.:28:21.

in 2015 at Wimbledon, 12-10 in the fifth! It could be another late

:28:22.:28:28.

finish. Peter, you're in the chair. What a date has been. We lost the

:28:29.:28:37.

three seed, Raonic, two, Wawrinka, and then the biggest shock of all,

:28:38.:28:40.

Andy Murray is out. Bye bye.

:28:41.:28:53.
