Semi-final: Hull v Warrington Rugby League: Challenge Cup

for the second semi-final in the Tetley's Challenge Cup. Warrington

have won it three times in the last four years and they current holders

are the favourites to go to Wembley again and try and lift this famous

old trophy. Up against them, one of the game's famous old clubs, the

black and white of Hull FC need a win to give their season a

much-needed boost. They will asked in the final five years ago. They

knew very well, he was an instrumental your coaching career.

Yes it is hard to talk about it. Words don't give him justice. As a

person and as a coach. One of his greatest attributes, every place he

went to, he improved it. And he made everyone feel so welcome and part of

the organisation. There have been some great benefactors of his

knowledge. I am one of them. I am indebted to him. It is a sad time

for rugby league. A very sad time. He had a remarkable coaching

career. He was first class. This is the job we do. The person he was, he

helped a lot of people, myself included. He was prepared to share

his knowledge. He left any club he went to in better shape. Leeds fans

will remember with huge fondness 1999 in this very competition in the

Challenge Cup when Leeds beat London at the old Wembley and the thoughts

from everybody on the BBC team are Here at Huddersfield this

afternoon, it is all about Warrington and Hull FC in the

Challenge Cup. They are fighting to play Wigan in the final. We were

the game, do we not give Wigan enough praise for how they play?

Honestly, Wigan are so ruthless in what they are doing. If they play

really well, they are difficult to handle. For London, it was too much.

As far as today is concerned, those Hull FC funds come with their sound

-- come with their team and not in great shape but you think they are

pumped. I have sensed it all week. I've been listening to people, I saw

them come up, and I looked at their roster and thought, you, what? I

know they are playing a team that are on fabulous form, their form is

outstanding, but the personnel at Hull have got the ability to cause

an upset. If they look after the ball and they defend the way they

did against the Catalans last week, watch out. Both sides could win

this. Here's the gameplan for both of them.

Hull FC will come into this game as slight underdogs because they have

one of the lowest point scores with only the London Broncos sitting

behind them. So, they do have a diamond in the pack. This gentleman

here just about to catch the ball and kick it is Daniel Holdsworth who

has been injured for a good portion of this season but he is they go to

man. He carries the ball with both hands, and he is a very sticky

player. If they are going to do well today, they're going to need him to

fire on all cylinders, and make sure he takes the right passes at the

right time. Warrington go into this game as the favourites, and one of

the reasons for it is the amount of talent they have. You've got Adrian

Morley, you've got Garreth Carvell, you've got Lee Briers. One of the

unsung heroes is this man, Micky Higham. In the form of his career.

He's played for all the biggest clubs in the game of rugby league.

He is playing great at this point in time. He signed a brand-new

contract. He will sit it out constantly, hitting the opposition

on the back foot, cause them a lot of trouble. Keep your eye on him,

one to watch. I have to say, the atmosphere here

is the nominal. Both sides leave the pitch to head back to the changing

think it could be won and lost. They are both Australia and is, they are

both small in stature but high inability. Shannon McDonnell, he

bets -- he beats a lot of people which creates a momentum for your

different ways? You might say that McDonnell has to do more tackling

he is quality. Hull have beaten Warrington last. You yourself

is the most exciting. You've got to whether that storm. If you can't

come you're going to be in trouble. They blitz you early doors, get you

out of the window. And then when they blitz you, you're playing catch

up. Even when you think you can get back, then they score another try

and they are away again. It is the momentum of the game as well. If

you're behind, if the momentum is going against you, you don't stand a

Arnold. How keen are your players? The Mac

it can help. We have experienced both sides of it. The wins and

losses of it at this stage of the competition. And you can rely on

some experience, but it only takes you so far. It is a whole New Year

and a whole new game and you've got to do all the things today. Take

experience can help but only to a certain degree. You do have Daniel

Holdsworth back, how keen to see? is a keen player and he is a key

player. He hasn't played a lot this year. But he is a very decent

looking forward to it. It wouldn't make any difference whether or not

we are favourites. It is about what you do on the day and we will aware

of that and looking forward to it. It's a great occasion. Hopefully the

thought they are on song but you've got to take it to Hull, the way they

got back into the game. It is all happening. All of a sudden, you

don't know where to look! At that stage, they were off to a great

start. And we feared a little bit watching that first 15 minutes for

Hull because they had had a couple of chances where they were in the

Warrington half but they didn't capitalise. We talked about the

Warrington team blitzing them. Fortunately, Hull got themselves

back into it. It is of the back of some fundamental errors by

Warrington, they weren't good enough. They got themselves into the

game, they've found a way. And, boy, did it get the fans back on their

feet. Bridge sees web Lineham is. This takes a bit of courage by the

winger. He attacked the ball. He eased back -- he could have eased

back but he attacked it. He has been a revelation. And the speed, he

very placid. They have been here, they are the most experienced team,

they need to do. We thought they might miss the pace of McDonnell

because he went off so early with that injury. Whiting doesn't have

that pace, but yet he got the try. This is a famous play of the West

Tigers. They come against the grain, the markers have got to identify

this. This would have been on their tip sheet. The play comes across,

that was Holdsworth. This can still be solved but Riley goes to the

outside shoulder where she -- where he should have gone to the man. They

will have been disappointed by this. This is one of those players that

you recognise weeks before leading up to this game. It is something we

have done homework on at Huddersfield Giants. They just

switched off for a second. Just switch off for a couple of seconds

and the game will turn around. is what it comes down to at the end

of the day. These are big players, you have got to handle them. We have
