Hello and welcome to our coverage of the 2016 Ladbrokes Challenge Cup. We

:00:40.:00:50.

are in Yorkshire, where last night holders Leeds were knocked out. Our

:00:51.:00:54.

game this afternoon is Castleford Tigers Salford. The final is at the

:00:55.:00:59.

end of August. We have no idea who is going to win this magnificent

:01:00.:01:03.

trophy. It is going to be fun though finding out.

:01:04.:01:12.

This is what we want. It produces great memories every

:01:13.:02:08.

season. Last season was no different. And we get under way with

:02:09.:02:11.

our Challenge Cup coverage this year at The Mend-A-Hose Jungle under

:02:12.:02:16.

beautiful blue skies. The sun is out. It is probably not the weather

:02:17.:02:23.

for wearing a cuddly Tiger on your head. It is more weather for an ice

:02:24.:02:28.

cream or even a pint. Castleford Tigers Salford is our main fare this

:02:29.:02:34.

afternoon. Plenty of Challenge Cup pedigree. Brian Noble is with us.

:02:35.:02:41.

And alongside Brian we have the Widnes head coach and England

:02:42.:02:46.

assistant coach Denis Betts, who has great pedigree in this cup, winning

:02:47.:02:51.

the Lance Todd Trophy in 1991 as Wigan beat Saints. Happy memories?

:02:52.:03:01.

Yes. Always. The Challenge Cup always brings the memories flooding

:03:02.:03:07.

back. Do you talk to your current squad about these and the -- duvet

:03:08.:03:18.

goal, shut up, coach?! I want to create our own history and run

:03:19.:03:23.

memories. We want to put your questions to our team. John Wilken

:03:24.:03:29.

joins us later. Maybe you want to talk to Brian, the new Don of

:03:30.:03:33.

Canadian elite. We will have plenty to talk about. And also we have got

:03:34.:03:39.

a very special thing for you this year. We will give you the chance to

:03:40.:03:43.

be on the pitch at Wembley for the Challenge Cup final as part of a fan

:03:44.:03:48.

squire to sing abide with me. We have teamed up with songs of praise

:03:49.:03:54.

to give you the chance. That gives you the chance to turn some of our

:03:55.:04:00.

team into choirboys. B3 unlikeliest choirboys ever. Doesn't John Wilken

:04:01.:04:09.

look happy to be part of that trio?! That is the fun and games over.

:04:10.:04:13.

Let's concentrate on the Challenge Cup. Two games yesterday. Catalan

:04:14.:04:20.

Dragons winning easily add badly. They put 40 points on the board. The

:04:21.:04:25.

story though came at Huddersfield as they beat Leeds. The holders are

:04:26.:04:33.

out. You were there, Brian Noble?

:04:34.:04:38.

Huddersfield leaders and their win. They were incisive. A bit more

:04:39.:04:43.

presence. They have got some really good players. The game was

:04:44.:04:51.

practically won here. That was icing on the cake. Danny Brough had a

:04:52.:04:54.

terrific game. Problems continue for Leeds. Can you understand the

:04:55.:05:04.

problems through Leeds? Yes, there are lots of circumstances. Things

:05:05.:05:07.

have happened this year with the weather and the training ground.

:05:08.:05:10.

They went to the home of the Huddersfield Giants, a great side

:05:11.:05:17.

themselves. It was a big ask. The danger is not to give the victors

:05:18.:05:21.

any credit. Huddersfield have had a rough start. What a springboard that

:05:22.:05:29.

could be for them? Yes, their structure was good. They played very

:05:30.:05:33.

well. You cannot get carried away. They have had distractions. Ten

:05:34.:05:39.

people not featuring that would normally feature. Everybody is

:05:40.:05:44.

talking about the loss of Jamie Peacock and Gary Sinfield. They knew

:05:45.:05:49.

about that. Please give credit to other fields. They were strong. I

:05:50.:05:52.

thought some of their individual performances were very exciting. The

:05:53.:05:58.

holders going out as well. That will be a fillip to every team. It is a

:05:59.:06:04.

great competition this year. When you look at the table and you see

:06:05.:06:09.

how close teams are, everybody feels they have a chance of achieving

:06:10.:06:14.

something. It is a very tight table. Leeds rock bottom. Brian McDermott,

:06:15.:06:20.

last night, still talked about getting to the Grand Final as an

:06:21.:06:27.

ambition. Can you understand that? He is very optimistic. You have to

:06:28.:06:32.

win 12 games on the bounce. It is not like it used to be. They might

:06:33.:06:39.

make the eight. But to catch the top four to get into the semifinals is a

:06:40.:06:44.

huge task. I do not think it can be done. Did home advantage help

:06:45.:06:51.

Huddersfield last night? Huddersfield were at home, weren't

:06:52.:06:56.

they? I checked out Headingley first before I went to work for radio

:06:57.:07:02.

five. I saw a distinct lack of people there so I thought, I might

:07:03.:07:05.

need to get to Huddersfield in time for kick-off. So you didn't go to

:07:06.:07:16.

the wrong ground? Kind of! Move on! Let's concentrate on the Challenge

:07:17.:07:18.

Cup games still to come. We will bring you St Helens against

:07:19.:07:42.

Hull live on BBC. Shall we take a look at the teams

:07:43.:07:47.

involved today? Castleford Tigers Salford. Dave Woods has their

:07:48.:07:55.

Challenge Cup history. Castleford Tigers Mac first

:07:56.:07:58.

Challenge Cup success came in 1935 with a narrow victory over

:07:59.:08:09.

Huddersfield. Three years later Salford put the misery of four cup

:08:10.:08:13.

final defeat behind them to finally lift the trophy, their only cup

:08:14.:08:18.

success to date. It was not until the 60s that both teams rallied

:08:19.:08:22.

again. In 1969 they met in the final. Castleford beat Wigan the

:08:23.:08:35.

following year. Barren years followed but in 1986 they were back.

:08:36.:08:44.

Castleford Tigers runners-up twice since. A fifth cup triumph still

:08:45.:08:51.

eludes them. Could 2016 be their year here is this a Salford side set

:08:52.:08:57.

to savour success? Salford fans and their owner coming

:08:58.:09:02.

to this game with a sense of injustice. They were deducted six

:09:03.:09:09.

points in Super League for a breach of a salary capped. The owner will

:09:10.:09:14.

take this further and try to challenge it. Can you understand the

:09:15.:09:23.

injustice? If you are caught with your fingers in the tail, the league

:09:24.:09:27.

has to do something. I'm sure there are reasons how and why it happened.

:09:28.:09:33.

That is for a Salford to put the case forward. The league have

:09:34.:09:35.

examined it. They have investigated it. They have to punish the club.

:09:36.:09:41.

How they punish the club is given down in the rules. Wigan were

:09:42.:09:46.

punished in 2007. That was a four point deduction. Bradford went into

:09:47.:09:53.

administration in 2012 and the RFL toughened up those rules to make the

:09:54.:09:58.

punishment greater. As a coach, can you use the injustice to motivate

:09:59.:10:04.

your players? Certainly, yes. If your back is against the wall and

:10:05.:10:08.

you feel the world is against you, it is a motivator. But when you get

:10:09.:10:13.

going, when you get really into the game, once the collisions start, it

:10:14.:10:19.

becomes about the game. I think Castleford feel they have their

:10:20.:10:22.

backs against the wall when you look at the team they are putting out.

:10:23.:10:26.

They will feel their back is against the wall. We have got to sides with

:10:27.:10:32.

a lot to play for. The other argument in this case, whether they

:10:33.:10:39.

have been guilty or not, they have been found guilty, the other

:10:40.:10:43.

argument centres around the punishment, whether first something

:10:44.:10:48.

that happened in 2013 or 2014, this team should be punished? I do not

:10:49.:10:55.

know how you get over that. What do you do to punish retrospectively?

:10:56.:11:01.

Does not make any sense. People in Bradford were advocating they should

:11:02.:11:04.

not be in the Super League because of what they did. We have seen in

:11:05.:11:12.

the Super League in Australia 18 was docked and fined. That is a kick in

:11:13.:11:16.

the backside. There are other punishments. Maybe some quarters

:11:17.:11:25.

feel they got away lightly. It is the players who get the injustice

:11:26.:11:29.

but it is the club that is being punished. The club has made its

:11:30.:11:32.

call. The administration has done things it should not have done. The

:11:33.:11:36.

people who suffer are the supporters and the players playing at the

:11:37.:11:42.

current time. Here are the players, courtesy of

:11:43.:11:44.

Brian, representing Salford this afternoon.

:11:45.:11:50.

What an unbelievable back three. Justin Carney, the powerhouse. A

:11:51.:11:58.

long-awaited debut for Daniel Vidot. Unbelievable form from the two giant

:11:59.:12:03.

fast and explosive centres Sa'u and Josh Jones. Robert Lui and the

:12:04.:12:14.

explosion that Mac adding explosion on pace to his game and the ever

:12:15.:12:21.

controlling Michael Dobson. Craig Kopczak, a recent signing from

:12:22.:12:24.

Huddersfield, companies fillip jokes about George Griffin in the front

:12:25.:12:31.

row. And a Superbike three. Murdoch-Masilla and how Raaqy

:12:32.:12:36.

exploding onto the fringes, orchestrated by Mark Flanagan. --

:12:37.:12:42.

Raaqy. Off the bench Jordan Walne and Niall Evalds. Adam Walne another

local product companies Olsi Krasniqi, a recent signing from the

:12:53.:12:57.

London Broncos. Warming up just below me, Robbie

:12:58.:13:01.

Hunter Paul is in the thick of it. He will tell you how they are going

:13:02.:13:03.

to play. I have to keep out of their way.

:13:04.:13:08.

They have got some big boys. One of the team of 2016, I will see if I

:13:09.:13:15.

can get Craig Kopczak. How have you guys prepared? Really well. We are

:13:16.:13:21.

looking forward to it. We want to play a fast tempo. Will you try to

:13:22.:13:30.

run over the top of Castleford? We have got good players on the edges

:13:31.:13:35.

in Vidot and Carney. Looking to mix it up a little bit. Just as Craig

:13:36.:13:39.

said, some brilliant players and some big players. None more so than

:13:40.:13:45.

this man, Justin Carney. An absolute beast when he is carrying the ball.

:13:46.:13:51.

A very good centre of gravity, very strong in the tackles. Scores tries

:13:52.:13:55.

for fun. He has got a bit of a mongrel in him as well. Definitely

:13:56.:14:00.

one to watch. When the ball gets out wide, keep your eyes on him.

:14:01.:14:08.

It is very difficult to miss him! It will be very easy for us to keep our

:14:09.:14:13.

eyes on him. A man who was adored at the Jungle, no longer the case.

:14:14.:14:22.

Dave Woods. You have to be brave to mention Justin Carney around West

:14:23.:14:30.

Yorkshire. But the Aussie winger was once a Castleford folk hero, scoring

:14:31.:14:40.

63 tries in 62 appearances. But after a highly publicised fallout

:14:41.:14:43.

with team-mates he was shown the door. Castleford's loss was

:14:44.:14:50.

Salford's game, with the Red Devils snapping him up. Six tries already

:14:51.:14:55.

this season, including a double in a fiery return to Castleford, he is

:14:56.:15:00.

proving invaluable. He recently pledged his long-term future to

:15:01.:15:03.

Salford by signing a three-year deal. When he walks out today he can

:15:04.:15:09.

expect another hostile reception. Given he is going to get a hostile

:15:10.:15:13.

reception, Denis Betts, if you were his coach what would you say? You do

:15:14.:15:31.

not change Justin Carney. You let him be himself. He has proven over

:15:32.:15:35.

the last few years that he is a devastating winger. You have to let

:15:36.:15:47.

that little mongrel lose. A little bit of mongrel, that is the way he

:15:48.:15:51.

plays. He'll stab at your ankles, he will challenge you, he will be in

:15:52.:15:56.

your face, you will get the ball close to the line. He will not

:15:57.:16:01.

change, he cannot change. That is an interesting dilemma for a coach. Are

:16:02.:16:04.

you giving one rule for one player and another for another? Not at all.

:16:05.:16:11.

You do not bring a player in and expect him to be something else.

:16:12.:16:14.

They brought a player with certain attributes. He brings certain

:16:15.:16:21.

things. He is a fantastic rugby league player. He is a pain in the

:16:22.:16:27.

side. He cheers people out, get onto the ball, he is fantastic. If you

:16:28.:16:36.

word Daryl Powell, -- if you word Daryl Powell... You stick him in the

:16:37.:16:43.

ribs and you might say something in his ear. He will not change. People

:16:44.:16:48.

are drawn to this game because of the dynamics of the challenge. He

:16:49.:16:52.

wants to challenge all the time. I would say do not aggravate him too

:16:53.:16:56.

much. Do not get on top of him too much. Let him fade away from the

:16:57.:17:01.

game and try not to get as much ball as he wants. Promise me when you go

:17:02.:17:07.

to Canada you will not poke a beer -- bear with a steak! Moose! They

:17:08.:17:16.

have an unbelievable right side. Carney will show up anywhere. It

:17:17.:17:20.

takes three or four people all the time. You see the big right, he

:17:21.:17:30.

shoves it in somebody's face. Another four players to bring him

:17:31.:17:33.

down. The key to this game is not just his progress, there are right

:17:34.:17:39.

side is full of explosive players, full of players that you have got to

:17:40.:17:43.

be on top of your game to try to get on top of them. There is Sa'u

:17:44.:17:53.

looking for an opportunity on the back of Carney trying to help as

:17:54.:17:58.

well. Look at the size of this guy. You have to be on your game. Carney

:17:59.:18:04.

with the finish. What a fabulous right side they have got.

:18:05.:18:15.

Murdoch-Masilla, see you later. Nie A level is, the local product

:18:16.:18:24.

finishes the play. -- Nile levels. What challenges do they provide

:18:25.:18:30.

defensively? The threat is all over the field. Gareth O'Brien has really

:18:31.:18:39.

matured as a full-back. He is able to link, he can pass the ball and

:18:40.:18:48.

not just be a runner. Gareth O'Brien is a runner and a passer. There is

:18:49.:18:54.

one thing about the Salford team we have not touched upon. They are

:18:55.:19:00.

running with a front row player who has played a little bit as Hawker.

:19:01.:19:11.

They could suffer today because of that? That is a huge point Dennis

:19:12.:19:19.

makes. Tomkins is suspended. Tommy Lee is suspended. They have a young

:19:20.:19:25.

kid they have decided not to use. The number nine recognises defensive

:19:26.:19:30.

shapes in front of him. They will lose that ability today. Castleford

:19:31.:19:35.

Tigers. Awful injury problems. These are the players representing them

:19:36.:19:43.

this afternoon. Ryan Hampshire is an explosive

:19:44.:19:47.

runner. Monaghan and Solomona are world-class stars. Ben Crooks, a

:19:48.:19:56.

local product, back at his hometown club alongside the powerhouse, Jake

:19:57.:20:01.

Webster. Here is the challenge for Castleford. Grant Millington and

:20:02.:20:07.

Paul McShane, a Hawker and a front row given the task of directing the

:20:08.:20:09.

team around the field. Their back three, immensely talented

:20:10.:20:29.

at off-loading. Nathan Massey, and Mike McMeeken. Let's talk about Luke

:20:30.:20:37.

Gale, will not be playing. He is missing. Another blow in a long list

:20:38.:20:45.

of blows? It is a massive blow. He has been playing exceptionally well.

:20:46.:20:49.

He has been a big part of their kicking game. He pushes them around

:20:50.:20:54.

the field, he gives them lots of direction. Losing him is a big blow.

:20:55.:21:01.

We thought he might play. Now he isn't. It could be one of those late

:21:02.:21:09.

injuries, we don't know. It might be a hamstring. Millington and McShane

:21:10.:21:14.

have to do a job. Paul McShane will have more dexterity than Millington.

:21:15.:21:22.

They will keep their game plan very simple against this Salford team.

:21:23.:21:28.

Daryl Powell is cute. He will be looking to manufacture some

:21:29.:21:34.

one-on-one opportunities. Luke Dorn, was part of the interchange, is not

:21:35.:21:39.

playing. He has been replaced by Danny Tickle. You must be pulling

:21:40.:21:41.

your hair out midway through the season? Backs against the wall

:21:42.:21:49.

mentality. There is no use arguing about what you have not got. You

:21:50.:21:55.

have to work with what you have got. This is a team running with 29s.

:21:56.:22:04.

Lots of movement out of the ruck. Millington will be more of a runner

:22:05.:22:08.

than a passer. He is a good passer. They will play the passing game. We

:22:09.:22:14.

were talking about how hard it is, with a small squad, to bring people

:22:15.:22:20.

in. Wigan and Leeds and Saints may have academy players ready to go,

:22:21.:22:23.

but for the smaller clubs that is not the case? You shuffle your hand.

:22:24.:22:29.

You have got a team that has been shuffled around. We have been there

:22:30.:22:36.

ourselves a couple of times this season. You have got somebody

:22:37.:22:41.

training all year and then he pulls something during the week. They have

:22:42.:22:45.

got pretty good replacements, Castleford. The challenges that the

:22:46.:22:53.

two people they have got are not halves and they need haves.

:22:54.:22:58.

Absolutely gorgeous conditions here at the Meadows. A perfect condition

:22:59.:23:04.

for us to see some of that classic Castleford play. If they get their

:23:05.:23:10.

opportunity they can play in waves. One of the men leading them around

:23:11.:23:15.

the park today is the number ten, Grant Millington. How have the boys

:23:16.:23:21.

prepared? Obviously we'd lost Luke Gale so it has been quite tough. We

:23:22.:23:26.

have trained well. We have simplified things and made it really

:23:27.:23:34.

good. I think we can still score some points. As long as we defend

:23:35.:23:38.

well we are in with a chance. The very best of luck.

:23:39.:23:48.

Lee Jewitt, great off-load. He will try to keep the ball alive. They

:23:49.:24:01.

will want to get the off-load going, then the second grade players will

:24:02.:24:03.

come through. Millington will release the ball to players with the

:24:04.:24:08.

finishing power, the likes of Ben Crooks, Joel Monaghan, who we know

:24:09.:24:16.

is an absolutely brilliant finisher. We have also got this man, the man

:24:17.:24:22.

of the moment, Dennis Solomona. Scoring tries for fun. He has scored

:24:23.:24:28.

more tries than he has played games. Absolutely dynamic. He can pull out

:24:29.:24:33.

of the tackles, great core strength, great ability.

:24:34.:24:38.

He is one to watch. Thank you very much, Robbie. We will talk more

:24:39.:24:41.

about Solomona in a minute. Nice of you to join us. Did you realise we

:24:42.:24:49.

were on air at two? I knew what time we were on, I have been training

:24:50.:24:57.

today! We are going to make sure that you

:24:58.:25:01.

work between now and five. Let's look more at Dennis Solomona. He has

:25:02.:25:08.

added more to his game. What has he added? I think he is more composed,

:25:09.:25:17.

and excellent finisher. He comes off his left foot, his right foot. He

:25:18.:25:21.

has got himself a decent partnership with Jake Webster that allows him to

:25:22.:25:28.

do this kind of thing. Raw speed is an asset in this game and he has got

:25:29.:25:31.

raw speed, with footwork and strength. In a team struggling for

:25:32.:25:37.

confidence, it speaks volumes that he has scored so many tries. He

:25:38.:25:42.

creates space around him. His role finishing ability this year has been

:25:43.:25:46.

exceptional. He is really learning his trade. It is not just about

:25:47.:25:51.

having fast people. It is about technical position. He is an

:25:52.:25:58.

athlete. His balance, the way he can move, he is a player. He is

:25:59.:26:04.

athletic, skilful and he is a great asset. You can have raw speed but

:26:05.:26:13.

there has to be more to it. It is coaching that. You get somebody like

:26:14.:26:17.

that who is athletic and gets the game instinctively, you work on the

:26:18.:26:22.

details. That is why he is a better player.

:26:23.:26:29.

Let's here from the coaches. Darryl, how big a blow not to have Luke Gale

:26:30.:26:35.

available? You do not want to lose your half-backs. That is obvious. It

:26:36.:26:40.

is what it is. We trained really well yesterday without him. We just

:26:41.:26:45.

get on. We have got a number of players missing. Regardless, we have

:26:46.:26:49.

got a good team and we have to deliver a performance. It will be

:26:50.:26:53.

tough today. Salford are a good team in decent form. We have to play well

:26:54.:26:57.

and if we do we give ourselves a chance. How good would a cup run be

:26:58.:27:03.

for you guys? It would be massive. We have looked forward to this. We

:27:04.:27:06.

want to have a really good crack at this. We have had an horrendous

:27:07.:27:13.

injury one. 1213 players missing at times. We have had to change

:27:14.:27:17.

training sessions. There is point complaining. It is a contact sport.

:27:18.:27:22.

We are in an OK place. We need a win. We are in a sport where results

:27:23.:27:31.

matter massively. This is a knockout competition. If you do not win

:27:32.:27:37.

today, that is the end of you. How have the team reacted to the 6-point

:27:38.:27:43.

deduction? We are all positive, we know what we want to achieve. We are

:27:44.:27:47.

leaving that with the owner to deal with. It is up to him and his

:27:48.:27:52.

solicitors. We are focusing on the rugby. All of the boys are positive.

:27:53.:27:57.

They have worked really hard, it must have been a blow? It was a big

:27:58.:28:03.

disappointment when we first heard. But within minutes people said, it

:28:04.:28:07.

is what it is. We deal with what we can control, which is the rugby side

:28:08.:28:13.

of things. Justin Carney got a yellow card on his return last time.

:28:14.:28:17.

Have you had a quiet word with him to hold his temper? He is a good

:28:18.:28:22.

lad. He knows what he did wrong last time. It was the first time he came

:28:23.:28:27.

back, it was a different experience. Hopefully he has grown and matured

:28:28.:28:32.

from that. Hopefully we will not see yellow cards today. Is he growing

:28:33.:28:38.

and learning as a coach? Tony Smith took him under his wing with

:28:39.:28:47.

Warrington. I know Mark Flanagan really well. He speaks highly of

:28:48.:28:51.

him. As all coaches do, you develop and learn. He has got the best out

:28:52.:28:57.

of some players at Salford. That is the biggest piece of credit you can

:28:58.:29:00.

give him. Salford move the ball more than anybody else. They didn't half

:29:01.:29:06.

give it to us at the beginning of the season. Do you feel Castleford

:29:07.:29:13.

have got their work cut out this afternoon? I think we're in for an

:29:14.:29:19.

exciting game. One team with loads of confidence, they want to a point.

:29:20.:29:24.

Another side with some adversity, they want to play, they want to

:29:25.:29:28.

score points, it is their home ground. The beauty of it is that at

:29:29.:29:33.

the moment in Super League, every game is difficult to call? If I was

:29:34.:29:39.

a gambling man I would probably favour Salford. Their form has been

:29:40.:29:45.

pretty good. Their style of football... I like this ground.

:29:46.:29:52.

Castleford like this ground. The atmosphere brings out something in

:29:53.:29:53.

everybody. They know how to crank up the

:29:54.:30:02.

atmosphere. There is Daryl Powell, as he takes a deep breath. Both sets

:30:03.:30:08.

of teams come out here at The Mend-A-Hose Jungle. Were Salford the

:30:09.:30:20.

hardest side you have played this season? They are the most

:30:21.:30:27.

challenging. They have big men, and when you combine power and the

:30:28.:30:30.

ability to move the ball it makes them dangerous. A top quality side.

:30:31.:30:34.

Well, kick-off is just a couple of minutes away here as we begin our

:30:35.:30:39.

Ladbrokes Challenge Cup coverage for 2016. We will be with our commentary

:30:40.:30:47.

team very shortly indeed. Before we do, we will pay tribute to a rugby

:30:48.:31:02.

league legend. It is fitting we are in Castleford today, the birthplace

:31:03.:31:07.

of the Rugby League legend Roger Millward who died this week aged 68.

:31:08.:31:14.

He was a giant for Hull KR who have retired his number 6 shirt as a mark

:31:15.:31:18.

of respect this week and he was a giant of the sport.

:31:19.:31:26.

Roger Millward was one of the game's greats, for club and country.

:31:27.:31:35.

Arguably his greatest game was his last, the 1980 Challenge Cup final

:31:36.:31:39.

for Hull Kingston Rovers against Hull. A broken jaw in the 13th

:31:40.:31:47.

minute couldn't stop him producing a captivating performance.

:31:48.:31:50.

COMMENTARY: He is going to have a dab. I thought he might have a drop

:31:51.:31:56.

and he does. Ten years earlier, he had inspired a

:31:57.:32:01.

Test series win for Great Britain against the old enemy, Australia.

:32:02.:32:06.

COMMENTARY: Millward is in for a beautiful try. A man so tiny, he

:32:07.:32:12.

could be so big on a pitch, and yet he could be so modest in what he

:32:13.:32:18.

did. COMMENTARY: Millward! We have lost

:32:19.:32:24.

another superstar. I'm going to miss him. He was one of my best mates.

:32:25.:32:32.

One of my best friends. Being a little lad growing up in Castleford,

:32:33.:32:38.

he had arrived at the pinnacle of his sport. If you love a thing

:32:39.:32:40.

enough, you will get on with it. COMMENTARY: As ever, the Rugby

:32:41.:34:17.

League family coming together to remember one of the greats and Roger

:34:18.:34:21.

Millward's ex-team-mates from Castleford and Hull KR are here

:34:22.:34:26.

today, all four sides of the ground applauding for that minute's

:34:27.:34:30.

tribute. It's Castleford against Salford, the 2016 Challenge Cup, and

:34:31.:34:39.

your commentary team this afternoon are here.

:34:40.:34:43.

COMMENTARY: The challenge is for these two teams to play in the

:34:44.:34:46.

spirit of Roger Millward. That is the way they are lining up today.

:34:47.:34:53.

Castleford injury problems. McShane at scrum-half is a hooker. It is

:34:54.:35:01.

swap and change about for Cas. Salford give a delayed debut to

:35:02.:35:06.

Daniel Vidot, he has finally recovered from a shoulder injury.

:35:07.:35:10.

That is a big pack as well. It will be interesting to see if the giant

:35:11.:35:18.

Phil Joseph plays out of dummy half. There is our referee today, a late

:35:19.:35:28.

change, James Child taking charge. It's a grand day down the Lane, but

:35:29.:35:33.

on who does the Challenge Cup sunshine shine brightest today? It

:35:34.:35:37.

will be Salford who get the first touch of the ball, the first chance

:35:38.:35:42.

to test the resolve of this Castleford pack, so let's hear from

:35:43.:35:45.

the two men alongside me, Jonathan Davies? It is an exciting game. It's

:35:46.:35:52.

a great game to come and play. A fantastic atmosphere. You are going

:35:53.:35:56.

to play an open, attractive game with Cas. I agree with the boys in

:35:57.:36:03.

the studio. The pack have to lay a good platform to get moving around

:36:04.:36:10.

the field. Flanagan has taken it to the 30-metre mark. John? It will be

:36:11.:36:17.

interesting to see how long it stays out there and what the replacement

:36:18.:36:21.

is round about 15 or 20 minutes' time. The bright orange, if you

:36:22.:36:27.

like, of Castleford here, against the darker colours of Salford and a

:36:28.:36:32.

chance for Ryan Hampshire to bring it back, the man on loan from Wigan.

:36:33.:36:37.

Has claimed to be a stand-off but has played most of his time in the

:36:38.:36:41.

full-back position. It will be a huge challenge for Phil Joseph to

:36:42.:36:47.

get to every tackle, I think. He is used to playing prop. It will be

:36:48.:36:53.

difficult for him. There are all kinds of connotations as to how it

:36:54.:36:56.

might swap and change as the game goes on. It's a fascinating tussle

:36:57.:37:03.

here. It is not beyond the stretch of any imagination that one of these

:37:04.:37:08.

two sides could be gracing the Wembley final in August. They have a

:37:09.:37:12.

very good chance if they negotiate this one today.

:37:13.:37:19.

That is one of the problems Castleford will have. Luke Gale is

:37:20.:37:25.

the main kicker within the Castleford team. He's missing today,

:37:26.:37:30.

McShane comes in with his left foot kick and it was a bit indifferent to

:37:31.:37:33.

start with. He will need to settle into that and he will need to have a

:37:34.:37:38.

good kicking game. It's a small field and normally Castleford do

:37:39.:37:42.

know how to keep this ball on this field. McShane's influence in that,

:37:43.:37:48.

and Hampshire's will be vital. Making his 100th career appearance

:37:49.:37:55.

today, Paul McShane. Leeds, Hull, Widnes, Wakefield among his previous

:37:56.:38:00.

clubs. A lift for Salford here with a penalty. Poor discipline and now

:38:01.:38:11.

easy field position. I agree with John, the kicking aspect. The

:38:12.:38:16.

kicking, especially in the last tackle, it will be crucial. Joseph

:38:17.:38:23.

the man at dummy half, inside of him is a pass from Dobson to Kopczak,

:38:24.:38:29.

who is wearing the mic today, so we will be hopefully hearing some of

:38:30.:38:35.

those secrets on the pitch, at half-time, full-time and tomorrow as

:38:36.:38:39.

well. Joseph, the man, Dobson again now, options right and left. Rob Lui

:38:40.:38:46.

will be such an influence today. Salford are creeping closer. Joseph.

:38:47.:38:53.

Flanagan. Dobson. The boy's been dropped and Castleford have some

:38:54.:38:54.

relief. Griffin ran a great angle. Here's

:38:55.:39:03.

the mistake. I don't think he was ready for it. The ball was going to

:39:04.:39:07.

go in front of him, but if you are on the rugby field, you have to be

:39:08.:39:11.

prepared for the ball to come to you. A missed opportunity for

:39:12.:39:17.

Salford. Interesting to see Salford as well, they have Vidot on the

:39:18.:39:25.

right side and Josh Jones in the right centre and interesting to see

:39:26.:39:29.

the dynamics of that. It is a massive backline. Daniel Vidot looks

:39:30.:39:36.

almost tiny in that company next to Josh Jones. You wonder what is going

:39:37.:39:42.

through the mind of Daniel Vidot, and also you wonder what is going on

:39:43.:39:49.

through the mind of Danny Tickle, he is on the bench. That is a ball

:39:50.:39:55.

steal. Danny Tickle, if the kicking game isn't going way, Danny Tickle

:39:56.:39:59.

is a very good kicker out of hand. They might put him on.

:40:00.:40:08.

There is Danny Tickle, jogging to relieve some of those butterflies,

:40:09.:40:13.

I'm sure, before his eventual involvement. It is a small pitch

:40:14.:40:17.

here, John. That is very important for any team who play here, you have

:40:18.:40:20.

to manage the distance. The lines are not even because it is not quite

:40:21.:40:23.

100 yards. You are defending very quickly on a pitch like this? You

:40:24.:40:30.

certainly are. You attempt to use more midfield kicks and Castleford

:40:31.:40:37.

are very astute at putting the ball high and putting pressure on the

:40:38.:40:41.

Salford recipients. Great pressure here for Castleford. Crooks is

:40:42.:40:48.

tackled. A little step by Mike McMeeken. One of several who have

:40:49.:40:52.

come through the London route in rugby league these days. Jewitt with

:40:53.:40:56.

a step, but he is going to be held up. But close. Adam Milner at dummy

:40:57.:41:05.

half. He is going to go himself here. They had him ready and

:41:06.:41:12.

waiting. Kopczak with the tackle. McShane with the kick. Vidot can

:41:13.:41:16.

watch it go out of play. It is the weight of the kick. You don't want

:41:17.:41:20.

to put it dead because if you catch it in goal, you know, if you get the

:41:21.:41:24.

ball back, that is the problem, but we talk about the size of the pitch.

:41:25.:41:28.

That is where discipline is so important. Wherever you get a

:41:29.:41:32.

penalty on this pitch, you could be on the front foot. And also,

:41:33.:41:36.

Jonathan, with that indifferent kick from Paul McShane, it has gifted

:41:37.:41:45.

them a 20-metre tap. You don't have to tell us, do you, that it is

:41:46.:41:50.

Justin Carney. The Castleford fans identified him there. Justin Carney

:41:51.:41:52.

back to his wing on that left-hand side. Salford working this right

:41:53.:42:02.

side with Lui, to Murdoch-Masilla, Josh Jones, the giant, a former

:42:03.:42:06.

Saint playing at centre for Salford. Equally at home in the back row as

:42:07.:42:12.

well. Kopczak. One tackle to go in this set. Joseph flicks it left.

:42:13.:42:18.

Dobson puts it high. There is a test here, Monaghan is usually very good

:42:19.:42:21.

under the high ball and proves that is the case again. That is the

:42:22.:42:26.

perfect kick. Monaghan fielded the ball. As he fielded it, they tackled

:42:27.:42:30.

him and that is one tackle of the six gone. Also, if you are a Salford

:42:31.:42:34.

kicker, you don't want to be putting the ball up to Monaghan and

:42:35.:42:40.

Solomona, they are big winners. They have to target Hampshire. After two

:42:41.:42:51.

giant steps by the giant Junior Moors he is beyond the 40-metre mark

:42:52.:42:56.

on this tiny pitch. Adam Milner in at dummy half. Jewitt again. He is

:42:57.:43:02.

off on a journey at the end of this year, he is going to Australia,

:43:03.:43:04.

isn't he? McShane. He puts it high. Castleford's chase is good enough.

:43:05.:43:19.

No pressure on the full-back there from the high kick. Easy take for

:43:20.:43:27.

O'Brien. They are feeling each other out at the minute, aren't they?

:43:28.:43:40.

Wait for the boos, and Carney takes them on and ducks through. He loses

:43:41.:43:50.

his footing. Sa'u making a hole and Junior Sa'u is over again! They

:43:51.:43:54.

cannot stop him scoring at the moment, Junior Sa'u. That is a

:43:55.:43:59.

great, great burst from Sa'u. From a kick play of the ball by Carney, and

:44:00.:44:05.

he shot out of the blocks. Great, great evasive skills, got on the

:44:06.:44:12.

outside and no chance at all for Hampshire. He runs at the forward

:44:13.:44:16.

and once he gets through, no stopping him. Jonathan you picked it

:44:17.:44:23.

out. He got his nose through the defensive line, played it quickly,

:44:24.:44:27.

it wasn't a set defensive line and Junior Sa'u picks up, changes the

:44:28.:44:32.

ball carrying hand there so he's got the right hand to fend if required.

:44:33.:44:36.

He didn't need it and over in the corner for a very good try from

:44:37.:44:40.

Junior Sa'u. It was Millington who was getting back there. He is a

:44:41.:44:44.

front-row forward, so it's going to be difficult for Millington, he will

:44:45.:44:49.

have the ball-in-hand a lot more. He will be tired. That is a brilliant,

:44:50.:44:52.

brilliant finish by Junior Sa'u. He comes into this game on the back

:44:53.:45:05.

of a couple of hat-tricks. Two successive hat-tricks, Junior Sa'u.

:45:06.:45:08.

He has scored seven tries in three games. This one is only a few

:45:09.:45:12.

minutes old. Confidence is a fantastic thing. When you are

:45:13.:45:14.

playing with confidence, you have to make the most of it. You want the

:45:15.:45:21.

ball-in-hand. A chance to turn four into six. It is a difficult kick,

:45:22.:45:30.

though, from that touchline. It's good, though. It is right between

:45:31.:45:40.

the uprights and Salford lead 6-0. Justin Carney there, a bit of

:45:41.:45:43.

footwork there and he comes through the defensive line, lands on the

:45:44.:45:47.

front, kick play of the ball, it's a disrupted line, off he goes, Junior

:45:48.:45:51.

Sa'u, whether he is playing right-centre, left-centre, it

:45:52.:45:54.

matters not. This boy can carry the ball. Great try. McShane gets us

:45:55.:46:01.

started again. The kick is too long. Dobson making sure his feet were out

:46:02.:46:07.

of play, or did he? Or did he? The touch judge on the far side wasn't

:46:08.:46:11.

sure. Not sure why he caught that. That was going dead anyway. All he

:46:12.:46:15.

needed to do was put one foot out and hit the ball. He had no need to

:46:16.:46:24.

catch it. Was his feet in the air there? Well... Feet in the air as he

:46:25.:46:35.

leapt out of play. Is it is a drop-out under the posts. We are

:46:36.:46:40.

going to see that again. He's in the air. Yes. That's a mistake. He just

:46:41.:46:55.

needed to touch the ball and that would have made it a penalty on the

:46:56.:47:00.

halfway line. He will stand and catch it. A big mistake by Dobson.

:47:01.:47:07.

Overcomplicating it. Or just not touch the ball at all. It was going

:47:08.:47:13.

dead. So, Castleford given the bonus of possession back here and a chance

:47:14.:47:14.

to create some mayhem if they can. Larne Patrick, his first start - it

:47:15.:47:35.

was his original drive there. Patrick is involved again. And

:47:36.:47:45.

already up to that 20-metre mark. McMeeken came back on that angled

:47:46.:47:51.

run. Milner with a dummy and tries to trick his way over. He is

:47:52.:47:55.

certainly over. But he hasn't touched it down. McMeeken is making

:47:56.:48:02.

great yardage, good angles of running, causing problems for the

:48:03.:48:08.

Salford defence. This was a good carry from Milner. Across the line

:48:09.:48:15.

but good work by O'Brien. That is a big kick which Monaghan takes. The

:48:16.:48:18.

referee says play on! McMeeken is there to score. I rather think we

:48:19.:48:24.

are going to the video ref on this. I think it is a try. I think that is

:48:25.:48:29.

a try as well. The referee said play on. And the referee has given the

:48:30.:48:34.

try on the field. Let's hear from the video referee to see what the

:48:35.:48:42.

judgment is. We need to see if they are onside, sit from a kick. -- it

:48:43.:48:44.

is from a kick. Here we go. So the right-hand side

:48:45.:48:49.

are all OK. You can see the ball goes forward so

:48:50.:49:09.

we need to see if it touches, we need to see if it goes back off

:49:10.:49:11.

Salford. It looks to be Michael Dobson who

:49:12.:49:27.

touches the ball. Just have a close-up of that, please. Looks to

:49:28.:49:32.

be Michael Dobson who touches the ball. Here we go. So Joel Monaghan

:49:33.:49:40.

catches the ball. It's Junior Sa'u's arm, I think.

:49:41.:50:04.

Yes, it is, number 4, Junior Sa'u's arm. So we can go through to the

:50:05.:50:07.

grounding. So the majority here are going to

:50:08.:50:31.

enjoy this moment. A try is given to Mike McMeeken, his fifth of the

:50:32.:50:38.

season. The tall second rower from Basingstoke and Castleford with an

:50:39.:50:42.

immediate response. The interesting thing there was the kick. He's so

:50:43.:50:50.

good in the air, Monaghan. He gets it. Dobson tries to pat it back,

:50:51.:50:57.

that is unlucky for Salford, but good play by Castleford.

:50:58.:51:04.

Interesting as well, that it is Paul McShane taking the conversion kick.

:51:05.:51:09.

He hasn't kicked any so far this year, so it is a good time for him

:51:10.:51:13.

to start that goal-kicking record. And he has done. So he's got a 100%

:51:14.:51:19.

kicking record so far this season. One out of one. He will retire now!

:51:20.:51:24.

We talked about the kicking game. This is where Ryan Hampshire stepped

:51:25.:51:27.

in. That is a pretty good kick there. It's a strike weapon for any

:51:28.:51:33.

team with Joel Monaghan in there. He fielded the ball cleanly. He tried

:51:34.:51:39.

to throw it back. McMeeken came up with a deserved try because

:51:40.:51:43.

Jonathan, he's made a big impression in the early part of this game. So

:51:44.:51:49.

we are all square at 6-6. 12 minutes of this first half played.

:51:50.:51:53.

Castleford, although they are starting on their own line here,

:51:54.:51:58.

given the dimensions of this pitch, it won't be long before they are

:51:59.:52:01.

putting real pressure on Salford again if they can keep hold of the

:52:02.:52:05.

ball for the next six tackles. It's a short pitch. If you get in the

:52:06.:52:13.

fresh air, it looks a long way. When you have big guys pursuing you. I

:52:14.:52:16.

remember you scoring a few tries on this field. It seemed a long way to

:52:17.:52:21.

me. It looked a long way for those watching as well with those little

:52:22.:52:24.

legs peddling away. But you got there in the end! Castleford are

:52:25.:52:29.

inside the Salford half. Good yardage here by Cas. Very good set.

:52:30.:52:34.

Jewitt, he puts the ball under the right shoulder and tries to burst a

:52:35.:52:38.

way through. Former Salford player, Lee Jewitt, of course. Not the

:52:39.:52:42.

happiest of times there for him. Hampshire puts the kick in the air.

:52:43.:52:45.

Carney is having a look at this. Down it comes. It is Millington who

:52:46.:52:50.

kicks it on. Crooks tries to get the kick, hits a Salford player, O'Brien

:52:51.:52:53.

comes up with possession, Salford have it back. That is the avenue

:52:54.:52:58.

they have to go on. Monaghan has got the wood over Carney, he is great in

:52:59.:53:03.

the air. And Hampshire's taken over the mantle of putting the ball on a

:53:04.:53:09.

plate for him. They were much better ends of sets. Vidot, a couple of

:53:10.:53:17.

glimpses of him so far in the game, Daniel Vidot, but nothing explosive

:53:18.:53:18.

just yet. Wide it goes. Solomona to collect. And talk about

:53:19.:53:30.

Junior Sa'u being an inspiring try-scoring forward, but Salford

:53:31.:53:33.

have one of their own in Solomona, but his passing might not be the

:53:34.:53:38.

best. Ben Crooks has knocked on, a bit of advice from the touch judge

:53:39.:53:42.

and Solomona is furious. It wasn't a great pass in the first place, was

:53:43.:53:46.

it? This is what Castleford have got to do. Not the greatest pass. Very

:53:47.:53:52.

difficult to take. But I think the strike power the boys have mentioned

:53:53.:53:56.

in the studio, they can't afford mistakes in their own 20-metre area.

:53:57.:54:03.

He's gifted Salford a really advantageous position there on

:54:04.:54:07.

tackle one. He's invited Salford in to say, hey, can you score? Jewitt

:54:08.:54:11.

has gone off to the blood bin as well. Rob Lui. Murdoch-Masilla. So

:54:12.:54:21.

often you see one passing to the other. Joseph is still going. The

:54:22.:54:25.

engine is still running at dummy half for Phil Joseph. Flanagan steps

:54:26.:54:30.

off the left foot and urges himself forward again. Castleford defenders

:54:31.:54:34.

are already back on their own goal line. Joseph goes left of Kopczak

:54:35.:54:40.

and Dobson will swing it away. O'Brien is able to recover his poise

:54:41.:54:44.

and recover the spilt ball. Good read by Crooks. Dobson. Heavily in

:54:45.:54:50.

by George Griffin. Still got a couple of tackles to go

:54:51.:54:58.

here. It is back with Dobson. Dobson back to Rob Lui. There is danger

:54:59.:55:02.

here. Lui can't brush-off the defenders, can off-load well,

:55:03.:55:07.

though. Dobson... That is great defence by Castleford. Joseph. I'm

:55:08.:55:13.

sure a tiring back now, Lui with the kick, Crooks tries to reach it.

:55:14.:55:17.

Carney picks up a ball that was touched by Castleford so another six

:55:18.:55:21.

tackles for Salford to have a go. This is a fair examination. They

:55:22.:55:25.

have gifted an error on the first tackle, played a full set out, the

:55:26.:55:31.

Salford Red Devils, and they have a second consecutive set. Exhausting

:55:32.:55:34.

moments for the Castleford defence. Can Salford find a way through?

:55:35.:55:41.

Joseph. Craig Kopczak goes to dummy half. There is not a lot of

:55:42.:55:45.

sprightliness in that position. Dobson with the pass away.

:55:46.:55:49.

Castleford's defence pushing up. Salford survive the pressure and

:55:50.:55:53.

keep possession. Wasn't touched, though, so the tackle count remains

:55:54.:55:58.

as it was. Jones, Vidot. They are jumping all over the place, they

:55:59.:56:02.

have lost 20 metres as well here, have Salford. That is tremendous

:56:03.:56:06.

structured defence there from the Castleford Tigers, really is. Moving

:56:07.:56:10.

up in a line, working hard for each other, putting the Salford attackers

:56:11.:56:13.

under pressure. Joseph. Dobson. Salford don't get the break,

:56:14.:56:34.

Castleford do get the ball. It was desperate defence that time. They

:56:35.:56:38.

were short of numbers on the right-hand side. The line speed is

:56:39.:56:42.

very, very good, great decision-making, especially by

:56:43.:56:47.

Crooks. That will be a big boost for Castleford, it really will. They

:56:48.:56:53.

will take great comfort in that. Marvellous defence and there's the

:56:54.:56:58.

end of the Salford 12th, set of 12 tackles. Here they go. They are

:56:59.:57:03.

sweeping forward in the shape of Solomona. Solomona to Monaghan, back

:57:04.:57:07.

to Solomona, has he kept a hold of it? No, he's not. Salford have it

:57:08.:57:12.

back. That is brilliant play by Castleford. Solomona, Monaghan, they

:57:13.:57:20.

made something out of nothing there. Unfortunate that they just dropped

:57:21.:57:28.

the ball. Chancing their arm there, the Castleford Tigers.

:57:29.:57:31.

It is nip and tuck at the moment. It is exciting stuff at the moment as

:57:32.:57:37.

well. Dobson plugs the left-hand side. It's a forward pass.

:57:38.:57:43.

Castleford get head and feed. Robbie? The game has opened up right

:57:44.:57:51.

now. It is very, very free-flowing. I don't know what it looks like on

:57:52.:57:58.

TV, but I can tell you pitchside, it is baking. The longer the

:57:59.:58:02.

opposition, the longer the team, your team has to defend, the more

:58:03.:58:06.

energy it is going to draw out of you. The word has to come from the

:58:07.:58:10.

sidelines that these players need to make sure they finish out their sets

:58:11.:58:13.

and they turn those sets into points. There is a chance for both

:58:14.:58:18.

sets of players to get some water in here. The one clear thing for me,

:58:19.:58:23.

you know, in the first 18 minutes, is the organisation from the

:58:24.:58:27.

half-backs of Salford. They look far more threatening and far more

:58:28.:58:32.

organised when they have got Lui and Dobson, but also O'Brien is there

:58:33.:58:35.

directing everyone as well. They have a huge advantage with those

:58:36.:58:40.

three over Castleford, you know, with a makeshift half-back

:58:41.:58:46.

partnership. Castleford can make things out of nothing, as Solomona

:58:47.:58:56.

almost did there. 6-6 as it stands. 19th minute is entered and a penalty

:58:57.:59:00.

here for Castleford as well. Do they think about two points here? It is a

:59:01.:59:13.

knockout game. It was an easy kick. That ends the debate. Milner at

:59:14.:59:20.

dummy half. McShane with a short pass, McMeeken has knocked on, I

:59:21.:59:25.

think it hit a Salford player. There is your answer. Should they have

:59:26.:59:29.

taken two or shouldn't they? Knockout game, keep the tins

:59:30.:59:33.

rattling. As Robbie says, finish your sets. They have to finish the

:59:34.:59:36.

sets. It is very, very warm. Castleford would prefer that Luke

:59:37.:59:56.

Gale was out on the pitch. Instead he is speaking with Tony.

:59:57.:00:04.

-- Tanya. He is at the back of the stand surrounded by his team-mates.

:00:05.:00:10.

What do you make of this so far? We have started really well. We need to

:00:11.:00:14.

get our kicking game better. Stop their back three from getting on a

:00:15.:00:22.

roll. What does Grant Millington bring to the role? He is a front row

:00:23.:00:30.

player. Brings a lot of composure. He has played a lot of games in

:00:31.:00:36.

Australia. Thanks for your time. Adam Ward is on the field from the

:00:37.:00:49.

interchange bench. There will be happy with that turnover ten metres

:00:50.:00:54.

away from the Castleford line. I think Salford are looking more

:00:55.:00:56.

threatening with the half-backs organisation.

:00:57.:01:05.

Craig Kopczak has gone off. He is wearing a player microphone today.

:01:06.:01:14.

We will hear evidence of that today. Only picking up heavy breathing at

:01:15.:01:20.

the moment as he recovers! Transfer massif. -- a transfer massif to cut

:01:21.:01:26.

through the middle. Salford on the back foot. They have

:01:27.:01:38.

to keep it basic. Take a job, trundle it up. Do exactly what they

:01:39.:01:46.

just did. Try to force the error and play in the opposition half. That

:01:47.:01:52.

was a good end. It took out the conundrum of the back play-off

:01:53.:01:54.

Salford by putting it over the sideline. Cas just shading the

:01:55.:02:04.

territory. It is one of those really exciting weekends. This game today,

:02:05.:02:11.

delicious, delightful. Tomorrow, St Helens against Hull, which will be

:02:12.:02:14.

everything this game is and possibly more. The way the Super League is

:02:15.:02:20.

gone, everybody can beat each other. You might favour them because of

:02:21.:02:22.

home advantage but you never know. That is a good back line, Jones

:02:23.:02:49.

against Webster. Monaghan is so good under the high

:02:50.:03:15.

ball. You sense maybe he is looking after the full-back, Hampshire. The

:03:16.:03:23.

full-back tends to drift over that way and Monaghan goes on behind the

:03:24.:03:28.

defensive line to diffuse that problem. Matt Cook has taken

:03:29.:03:36.

Castleford to the 40 metre line. Some big tackles coming in.

:03:37.:03:44.

Webster... Solomona with a sway of the hips. Back to Webster. Hampshire

:03:45.:03:53.

was screaming for it. The defence was good enough. Insert him in. It

:03:54.:04:04.

is knocked on. It is going Salford's way. That was a big mistake. An

:04:05.:04:16.

attacking opportunity. Not gone. The referee spotted that. That was a

:04:17.:04:22.

gilt-edged chance. On half chances such as that cup ties are decided.

:04:23.:04:28.

It was tremendous initially. Webster, drops of his left foot.

:04:29.:04:33.

Comes into the gap. I thought Solomona would have backed his

:04:34.:04:38.

place. I thought exactly the same as you. I thought he would have taken

:04:39.:04:47.

him on the outside. Good tackle. This Challenge Cup sixth round tie

:04:48.:04:51.

is boiling up nicely. 25 minutes played.

:04:52.:05:04.

Flanagan has taken over in the acting half-backs position at the

:05:05.:05:07.

moment. Doing a good job with their kicking

:05:08.:05:36.

game. Castleford receiving the ball within ten metres of their own line.

:05:37.:05:49.

Crooks takes them on. Castleford are flowing. Gadwin Springer, he is an

:05:50.:06:01.

athlete. It takes three to try to stop him. Eventually they do. The

:06:02.:06:03.

role is on. The last tackle in the set. Carney

:06:04.:06:27.

against Monaghan. Carney got there well before Monaghan arrived. Good

:06:28.:06:34.

play by Sa'u. He did not allow Monaghan to jump for the ball. It

:06:35.:06:40.

made it easy for his winger. Just checks Monaghan. Offside,

:06:41.:06:53.

Castleford. A penalty for offside. The referee had to give it because

:06:54.:06:58.

they were offside. I am with you, Jonathan. Good work by the Salford

:06:59.:07:04.

defence off the ball, which allowed Carney to defuse any problems.

:07:05.:07:14.

Carney... They love him! Castleford alert to that. Very good

:07:15.:07:30.

defence. A couple of tackles to go. Wonderful kick! He is in again!

:07:31.:08:06.

Sa'u! Second try of the game. Eight try in three games. He is a

:08:07.:08:13.

veritable try scoring machine. He is an absolutely outstanding form. He

:08:14.:08:21.

scores in a vast array of ways. We spoke about the Salford sets, how

:08:22.:08:28.

good they were. Constantly turning Castleford around. This was a cute

:08:29.:08:34.

one. Is that pass forward? I think the Cas fans feel it was. Regardless

:08:35.:08:40.

of that, this was the end of the set. A cute ball through from Lui.

:08:41.:08:47.

On hand there once again Sa'u. A beautifully weighted kick. We spoke

:08:48.:08:54.

about McShane putting it dead. That was perfection. That is the

:08:55.:08:59.

difference. Three options to put the ball on the foot. Good

:09:00.:09:06.

communication. He holds his line. A great line after the kick. So much

:09:07.:09:12.

advantage for Salford with those three playing around the half-back

:09:13.:09:19.

area. Some players start the season dreaming of scoring eight in the

:09:20.:09:27.

campaign. Some people dream of it in their whole career. Sa'u has already

:09:28.:09:37.

scored eight. Salford lead by six. The kick is confirmed. 6-12 in

:09:38.:09:47.

favour of Salford. He knows what is happening. He has got the jump on

:09:48.:09:53.

everyone. Nobody knew him. -- near him. Martin Gleeson with the on

:09:54.:09:59.

field message carrying for Salford. Just creeping towards the half hour

:10:00.:10:15.

mark in this game. A slight advantage for Salford.

:10:16.:10:32.

Again, quick play from Carney. Sa'u jumps in and takes over. It has been

:10:33.:10:41.

very effective. Name-macro in there as well. -- Hauraki.

:10:42.:10:54.

A really good kick from Dobson. In the end it went too far but it was

:10:55.:11:04.

keeping Hampshire guessing. The wind slightly favouring Salford in the

:11:05.:11:10.

first half. That is probably one of the worst kicks they have put in all

:11:11.:11:15.

afternoon. Flanagan has moved to the dummy half position.

:11:16.:11:27.

Gadwin Springer born in French Guiana. He is a handful. He is a

:11:28.:11:35.

mouthful! That is a good kick but it is taken

:11:36.:12:04.

easily enough. That needed to be a bit deeper from Hampshire. It was

:12:05.:12:08.

too easy to take. The Castleford chasers were offside as well. Once

:12:09.:12:17.

again, look at Carney. Two people on the ground. They call him the tank

:12:18.:12:22.

on the flank. Jones takes it beyond 40 metres.

:12:23.:12:44.

Salford going left again. The ball bounces nicely for Milner. The

:12:45.:12:49.

referee was mindful to blow and then thought again. But then in the end

:12:50.:12:55.

decided it was a knock-on he had seen. He stops the Milner run. I

:12:56.:13:04.

just hope the call is right and that it is a knock-on.

:13:05.:13:16.

REFEREE: I don't need to go. We have got the call. I will watch it

:13:17.:13:23.

tomorrow! Good defensive pressure from Milner.

:13:24.:13:31.

There is no not gone there. Or there. I think it was in the tackle.

:13:32.:13:51.

This is it, watch. My word! This is the one. He doesn't touch the ball.

:13:52.:14:01.

The boys in the studio can pick the bones of that! Good luck to them. I

:14:02.:14:06.

think the touch judge has got that wrong. Nile levels is on the field.

:14:07.:14:21.

-- Niall Evalds is on the field. He is a touch of lightning. Krasniqi,

:14:22.:14:36.

Albanian born. Not too many of them around in Super League. Great catch

:14:37.:14:45.

by Hampshire. He can weave a little magic. Cas fans felt there was more

:14:46.:14:56.

to do that challenge than the referee saw. I think he was going

:14:57.:15:03.

down. It is fiery, it is feisty but it is fun. Hampshire did a good job

:15:04.:15:10.

defusing the situation. A very good job.

:15:11.:15:37.

Springer almost got free again. He did not quite happen. They have

:15:38.:15:47.

still got another play. Over goes Webster! Jake Webster! Castleford

:15:48.:15:59.

feel a little justice written into that moment. Great execution on the

:16:00.:16:08.

kick. That was a beautiful kick. Solomona goes. Great play by him.

:16:09.:16:14.

Back to Webster. That is a brilliant try. That is the difference when a

:16:15.:16:20.

kick is spotted. He reads it well. Solomona is brilliant. Great driver

:16:21.:16:28.

Castleford. The kick is absolutely on the money. Solomona's skill, he

:16:29.:16:35.

is like a salmon, leaping. A basketball player. Great skill.

:16:36.:16:43.

Webster obviously knows he can do that. He was on hand. That is a very

:16:44.:16:48.

good try. It is such an advantage when you have got a winger running

:16:49.:16:51.

onto the ball, you can time your job. The defensive winger has no

:16:52.:16:59.

chance. A brilliant, brilliant try. The salmon like Solomona. The salmon

:17:00.:17:06.

like Solomona who is a basketball player as well! But it is a try.

:17:07.:17:13.

Castleford look dangerous down the left-hand side. They have Webster,

:17:14.:17:21.

Moors and Solomona. An attempt at a converging from Paul McShane. --

:17:22.:17:33.

conversion. Slightly more difficult than the first attempt. He has

:17:34.:17:45.

struck that superbly. Two out of two. 12 points apiece it is a school

:17:46.:17:52.

in the game deserves. There is nothing in it. Great tries scored.

:17:53.:18:01.

But defences are on top. Beautiful kick. Great skill. Lovely dry. It

:18:02.:18:07.

was excellent. You can see what it meant to that fellow. He is playing

:18:08.:18:13.

out of position, calling all the shots. He has taken the kicking game

:18:14.:18:15.

on. He has had a very good half. Jake Webster still carrying a bit of

:18:16.:18:34.

an injury today. I would suggest just about every player on the field

:18:35.:18:37.

is carrying something at this stage of the game, at this stage of the

:18:38.:18:44.

season. I think the only game where you are 100% fit is the first one

:18:45.:18:48.

you play, really. Monaghan is a way! Steps on the

:18:49.:19:11.

inside. Great tackle. But when he stops, and other comps. McMeeken

:19:12.:19:16.

with his second. Castleford finding a path through on the right side.

:19:17.:19:20.

Finding themselves, in the blink of an eye, from behind into the lead.

:19:21.:19:28.

We spoke about the threat that Carney and Sa'u pose. This was smart

:19:29.:19:37.

play. Soft hands. McMeeken stayed alive to complete the job. They got

:19:38.:19:44.

the numbers wrong. Sa'u comes in. He should stay at out. Lovely support

:19:45.:19:55.

again. Crooks inside. This guy, McMeeken on the outside, lovely try.

:19:56.:20:02.

McMeeken is having a really good game. He has caused trouble with his

:20:03.:20:12.

ball carrying. First class. The place is beginning to bounce a

:20:13.:20:20.

little. Salford were just getting on top after Sa'u's second try. A

:20:21.:20:25.

brilliant response from Castleford. Two lovely tries. McShane will take

:20:26.:20:39.

his time again. Paul McShane. His 100th career appearance. He was at

:20:40.:20:45.

Wakefield Trinity last season. A swap deal talks got more to

:20:46.:20:50.

Wakefield and brought McShane here. He started his career at Leeds. That

:20:51.:20:58.

is where he started, where he came to prominence. A loan spell at Hull.

:20:59.:21:04.

He is a very good goal kicker. For all that he has not been in that

:21:05.:21:09.

role this season. Castleford leading by 18-12. Taking every opportunity.

:21:10.:21:21.

He pulls Sa'u in. He reacts quickest. I love that. He has

:21:22.:21:28.

created it with his pass and he has followed it. A simple thing you

:21:29.:21:32.

teach schoolkids but it is still very effective. It is Salford who

:21:33.:21:36.

need a response. Trailing by six. Gadwin Springer has made a good

:21:37.:22:04.

impact. He carries the ball very well.

:22:05.:22:16.

Monaghan will try his luck. He got halfway and then he goes. Unlucky.

:22:17.:22:28.

There was a great opportunity to go for the drop goal. Great play from

:22:29.:22:33.

Monaghan. There was a chance to go. It would have been a massive moment

:22:34.:22:38.

in the context of the game had Monaghan kept his feet.

:22:39.:22:57.

A delicate kick by Lui. They raise the word delicate. Too heavy. The

:22:58.:23:11.

hooter will sound at the end of what has been a fascinating first half.

:23:12.:23:16.

That was the last act. Castleford having to come from behind to lead

:23:17.:23:23.

at half-time by 18-12. It has been wonderfully, wonderfully

:23:24.:23:29.

entertaining. Salford's Sa'u with his two tries. McMeeken with two

:23:30.:23:39.

back for cars. The two teams seem to be staying on the field. Joel

:23:40.:23:43.

Monaghan is speaking with Tanya Arno.

:23:44.:23:48.

You may be a patched up team, but you seem to be chancing your arm?

:23:49.:23:53.

Yes, it is Challenge Cup. It is do or die. How early energy levels?

:23:54.:24:00.

Will that be key? I think it is. It is a hot day. Whoever controls the

:24:01.:24:06.

ball, winds. Michael Dobson. Do you feel you have done much wrong? We

:24:07.:24:13.

need to go back and play a bit more simple. Thank you.

:24:14.:24:23.

What a cracking first half of rugby that was as our Challenge Cup

:24:24.:24:31.

coverage starts in the Jungle this season. The statistics for your

:24:32.:24:39.

perusal. Fairly balanced. We will the opportunities spurned by

:24:40.:24:48.

Castleford. Brian Noble, you said to me that you can look at as many

:24:49.:24:52.

statistics as you want, you cannot measure enthusiasm and passion.

:24:53.:24:58.

Players and crowd in synergy? Absolutely. I think Salford have

:24:59.:25:04.

looked at the Castleford team sheet and thought they were going to blow

:25:05.:25:09.

them away. Castleford have got a different agenda. They have found a

:25:10.:25:17.

way to play. It is very simple. They are following each other. In the

:25:18.:25:21.

main, while they have made some breaks, there are still some

:25:22.:25:27.

opportunities. For me, Ian Watson has got the hardest half-time talk

:25:28.:25:31.

because he has to get his mob going. Castleford are played some great

:25:32.:25:37.

rugby? Yes, energy. It is an amazing thing. You don't know where it goes

:25:38.:25:43.

when you lose it and you do not know where you get it from! The crowd are

:25:44.:25:50.

fired up. They have made some errors but have not made it affect them. We

:25:51.:25:58.

have got five tries in what has been a cracking first-half. We are going

:25:59.:26:03.

to rattle through them. Start with the opening Salford try.

:26:04.:26:12.

Salford looked really threatening. Carney beads one, two, three, lands

:26:13.:26:18.

on his front. At this point cars are struggling. Then you get Sa'u, a

:26:19.:26:25.

powerful man. A couple of missed tackles, and he is in the corner. At

:26:26.:26:30.

that point we were thinking, this is looking shifty fracas. We see Justin

:26:31.:26:35.

Carney's power. He is in a great position to play the ball quickly.

:26:36.:26:42.

Sa'u makes it a really difficult opposition to stop. Carney does that

:26:43.:26:49.

to most teams. It is difficult to stop him. Your dummy half has to be

:26:50.:26:56.

alert. Perhaps try to stop Sa'u doing what he does. He is hard to

:26:57.:27:06.

stop. I think they are played Justin Carney really well. When you are on

:27:07.:27:11.

your heels, it is hard to handle Carney and Sa'u. Cars honking. They

:27:12.:27:21.

got really quickly into some rhythm. They made no mistakes apart from

:27:22.:27:25.

mistakes at the right end of the field. Salford made a mistake at the

:27:26.:27:33.

right end and were punished. Michael Dobson was trying to be smart. We

:27:34.:27:43.

had Hampshire kick the ball to Joel Monaghan. Joel Monaghan trying to

:27:44.:27:49.

outjump the opposition. We see this in Super League every week. Dobson

:27:50.:27:54.

gets a hand and it goes to the video referee. It is a try for McMeeken.

:27:55.:28:06.

Monaghan is a kick target. A great try fracas. That really got them

:28:07.:28:10.

into the game. It all came from that error from Dobson. If Monaghan is

:28:11.:28:17.

such a great kick target, how do you stop at? You have to get people

:28:18.:28:23.

around the ball. Solomona is a kick target. Daryl Powell has been

:28:24.:28:30.

extremely clever. Salford have to come up with a

:28:31.:28:34.

strategy. We will see on the second one in the minute, Figo does not

:28:35.:28:38.

leave the ground. He is a giant but Solomona out Johnson.

:28:39.:28:45.

All of the cars fans around us thought there was a forward pass

:28:46.:28:50.

here. That is because it was a forward pass!

:28:51.:28:55.

They are difficult ones. The linesman is blocked. Hampshire's job

:28:56.:29:03.

is to come into the defensive line, pretend he is a defender and move

:29:04.:29:07.

around the back of the line to cover this kick. Monaghan leaves this

:29:08.:29:12.

space behind. Hampshire stays in the line may be a fraction too long.

:29:13.:29:17.

Perfect kick. There is not a lot in that technical -- technically. Very

:29:18.:29:29.

intricate. It was a great kick. You have to give a lot of credit for the

:29:30.:29:35.

skill, to put that on the spot. That is a hard kick. Tough kick but a

:29:36.:29:38.

great chase from Sa'u. He really chased hard and got his

:29:39.:29:48.

rewards. There's the Castleford dressing room. Daryl Powell might be

:29:49.:29:58.

giving a different team talk. This is on the back of some great play

:29:59.:30:02.

from Castleford. The accuracy of that kick is fabulous. Solomona has

:30:03.:30:07.

got the jump on Vidot, he is a big man, I didn't realise how big this

:30:08.:30:15.

Vidot is. He goes down, Solomona goes up, Webster finishes the play.

:30:16.:30:22.

Executed perfectly. When you mentioned it before, they probably

:30:23.:30:26.

don't think they have got as big a kicking threat now Gale is not

:30:27.:30:32.

playing, but Gale and Hampshire have put it right on the button. McShane

:30:33.:30:40.

has been brilliant. He is a very good player. You say that with

:30:41.:30:45.

surprise on your face! No, careful, you might not be coming back at this

:30:46.:30:50.

rate! John, you have become our favourite pundit again! Times are

:30:51.:30:58.

hard. The final Cas try of the 40 minutes? Cas played some great

:30:59.:31:03.

rugby. We see a bit of instinctive play. McMeeken has been the star

:31:04.:31:12.

player for Castleford. Justin Carney is in the wrong position. Justin

:31:13.:31:15.

Carney has to shut that down. He doesn't. Monaghan, what we see

:31:16.:31:20.

there, is a player who passed the ball stay alive and McMeeken scored.

:31:21.:31:25.

He has been a stand-out player for Castleford. Justin Carney has to hit

:31:26.:31:29.

Crooks as he catches the ball. A great piece of play from Cas and a

:31:30.:31:36.

great try from McMeeken. Cas has been really simple. They are running

:31:37.:31:42.

out of dummy half, they are moving with one-pass, two-pass plays. It is

:31:43.:31:46.

up to Salford, they have to be challenging in that area. Ian Watson

:31:47.:31:54.

has to tell them to be more vigorous in the middle of field. What none of

:31:55.:32:08.

us have talked about, is this is a Subutteo pitch. You have to

:32:09.:32:12.

turntables on them. If we hold our nerve and if we are strong, we will

:32:13.:32:15.

get field position! We will talk about the size of the pitch later.

:32:16.:32:20.

We have our rugby league forum post-match. You can put questions to

:32:21.:32:33.

Brian, John or Denis. We have teams up with Songs of Praise to give you

:32:34.:32:37.

a special opportunity at Wembley. You could be part of a fans' choir

:32:38.:32:40.

singing Abide With Me. The Challenge Cup is rugby league's

:32:41.:33:01.

most prestigious competition. Each final is preceded with Abide With

:33:02.:33:06.

Me. The final two teams will battle it out for the Challenge Cup. You

:33:07.:33:10.

could be on the pitch before kick-off helping to lead over 80,000

:33:11.:33:15.

voices in song. We are looking for 32 super supporters to form our

:33:16.:33:19.

choir. It is a fantastic opportunity to raise the curtain at an historic

:33:20.:33:24.

sporting event. Someone who knows what it feels like to hear that hymn

:33:25.:33:32.

is Jamie. I have played in it four or five times. The experience, I

:33:33.:33:40.

walk out there, it is a bit like, I don't know, the Colosseum. It is

:33:41.:33:44.

always red-hot. Not sure if you are on the pitch when Abide With Me is

:33:45.:33:49.

sung, but you can hear it. What impact does that have on you? It is

:33:50.:33:55.

massive. The words in there, they were written by a guy who was

:33:56.:33:59.

looking towards God on his final weeks and the song is a narrative

:34:00.:34:05.

and it gets to the core of who and what we are as human beings. What

:34:06.:34:10.

will you be looking for as a judge? I will look for passion, enthusiasm,

:34:11.:34:20.

there are a lot of unsung heroes in rugby league. If you would like to

:34:21.:34:28.

nominate someone who fits the bill, we would love to hear from you.

:34:29.:34:30.

Anybody can enter - male or female. You have got over a month to get

:34:31.:34:49.

involved with that. The closing date is Sunday 26th June, 2016. All the

:34:50.:34:56.

details on how to enter on the website.

:34:57.:35:01.

That will be the accompaniment before the Challenge Cup final, we

:35:02.:35:06.

have a man on the mic for us today, out there in the thick of it, Craig

:35:07.:35:09.

Kopczak. Craig Kopczak will keep the player

:35:10.:35:53.

mic on for the second half as well. We will play you a bit at full-time

:35:54.:35:59.

and during our coverage of St Helens-Hull tomorrow afternoon, the

:36:00.:36:05.

second Challenge Cup final of the weekend. Let's hope we get another

:36:06.:36:14.

40 minutes of scintillating rugby league. Back to our commentary team.

:36:15.:36:17.

COMMENTARY: Nothing to suggest it will be anything but what we saw in

:36:18.:36:21.

that first half. The cup tie is still very much in the balance.

:36:22.:36:24.

Castleford will be looking for a quick start in this second period.

:36:25.:36:28.

It has been a k contraing first half. -- it has been a cracking

:36:29.:36:34.

first half. Two teams who who will feel they can improve in the second

:36:35.:36:38.

half as well. Castleford have done exceptionally well. They have kept

:36:39.:36:44.

it simple. And they have tried to go to their strengths, which is their

:36:45.:36:49.

kicking game. Brilliant performance by Cas. Salford have got to try and

:36:50.:36:54.

get back into it a little bit. Hampshire. An anxious looking start

:36:55.:37:04.

to the second half by Castleford. Craig Kopczak will have the mic on

:37:05.:37:09.

again in this second half. That is a good off-load by Millington.

:37:10.:37:13.

McMeeken. Looking to take them on. A fabulous first half he's had. Inside

:37:14.:37:21.

for Crooks. His dad, Lee, has been involved in a few memorable moments,

:37:22.:37:26.

hasn't he, over the years? Challenge Cup replay that Hull won. A little

:37:27.:37:32.

hand-off and away to Webster and Webster, he was going out of play,

:37:33.:37:41.

so so he's dropped it backs and Denny Solomona has scored, possibly,

:37:42.:37:45.

the most unlikely try you will see in a long while. I say "possibly"

:37:46.:37:49.

because the referee has gone for the video here. Brilliant pick-up and

:37:50.:37:55.

support play. Let's have a listen to the video referee. We are checking

:37:56.:38:00.

the grounding. Solomona... I can't really tell there. The

:38:01.:38:14.

on-field decision is a try. I can't tell on that call.

:38:15.:38:33.

Again, does his hand come off the ball? He's in possession. Fumbles it

:38:34.:38:57.

a little bit. Still in possession. And then you can't tell. Have you

:38:58.:39:12.

got anymore angles other than that? Still in possession. Can't really

:39:13.:39:19.

tell. The on-field decision is a try and I can't overturn that, James, so

:39:20.:39:29.

it will be a try. Well, it is highly controversial. I can't believe they

:39:30.:39:33.

have given that. That is never ever a try. I didn't see the grounding.

:39:34.:39:42.

The process may be at fault there. The referee gave it because he ruled

:39:43.:39:46.

it was a try. There has to be definite evidence to disprove that.

:39:47.:39:54.

I think Richard Silverwood feels that there was. He has to put the

:39:55.:40:00.

ball on the ground! Sometimes you score tries through structure or

:40:01.:40:04.

through instinct. He toe pokes the ball through, a good pick-up, gives

:40:05.:40:08.

it to Solomona, I'll leave it to you as to whether he grounds it or not.

:40:09.:40:13.

That is never ever a try. Never ever a try. I don't know how they have

:40:14.:40:17.

got that wrong. It is because it is on the scoreboard, so it's a try!

:40:18.:40:21.

Big decisions, it is a Cup run, it means a lot to these clubs. That is

:40:22.:40:26.

a mistake, in my book, a big, big mistake. We had Songs of Praise in

:40:27.:40:32.

the first half with Junior Sa'u, how about something similar for Denny

:40:33.:40:35.

Solomona because he is a strike weapon? That is his 15th try in 13

:40:36.:40:44.

appearances this season, 33 in 28 for Castleford. McShane can't add

:40:45.:40:51.

the two. So it remains at 22-12. A bit of breathing space now. Salford

:40:52.:40:58.

will be far from happy to find themselves ten points behind. He

:40:59.:41:02.

passes the ball and it stays alive. He is still tracking there and it is

:41:03.:41:07.

Webster, he pops the ball inside because he's being shepherded over

:41:08.:41:11.

the sideline, toe poke, great pick-up, but that is the debate. To

:41:12.:41:16.

underline for people who don't know the situation, when do video

:41:17.:41:19.

referees, when the referee on the field goes to the video referee, the

:41:20.:41:24.

referee on the field tells the video ref whether he thinks it's a try or

:41:25.:41:28.

no try. The video ref has to find no evidence to disprove that original

:41:29.:41:32.

decision. And that was the issue there. He didn't feel he had

:41:33.:41:36.

absolute evidence to disprove the guess. You have to see the ball

:41:37.:41:42.

being grounded. From every angle, it wasn't grounded. All you want is the

:41:43.:41:53.

right decision. The process might be at fault there. It may well need

:41:54.:41:58.

looking at. I wonder what the coaches were talking about at

:41:59.:42:04.

half-time. Daryl Powell told his side to put them under immediate

:42:05.:42:08.

pressure, which is what they did. He said he wants them to play like they

:42:09.:42:11.

did in the last 20 minutes of the first half, not go back to the first

:42:12.:42:15.

15 or 20 minutes when he felt that Salford had too much of a quick play

:42:16.:42:24.

and a robust go forward. Ian Watson said his side weren't closing down,

:42:25.:42:27.

they need to get back to the high completion rate that they had in the

:42:28.:42:34.

first 20 minutes and get Cas back pedalling. The handover has given

:42:35.:42:39.

Salford possession here. The pack has stepped up a couple of

:42:40.:42:48.

levels. The Castleford pack. They are dominating the Salford pack at

:42:49.:42:53.

the moment. Look at Carney here. He loves a wrestle. The guys in the

:42:54.:42:57.

studio called it exactly right at half-time. Castleford have

:42:58.:43:03.

out-enthused this Salford Red Devils outfit. 25 metres away from where he

:43:04.:43:14.

wants to be. Untidy for Vidot and a fumble for Vidot on that right-hand

:43:15.:43:20.

side. It will be Cas who get possession again, all things being

:43:21.:43:25.

equal from this score. Watson will be disappointed with the execution

:43:26.:43:31.

there. He seemed to be rushing everything, overrunning. There is

:43:32.:43:36.

plenty of time left. They have to keep hold of it. Finish the set.

:43:37.:43:40.

Also, it is really interesting that Josh Jones is lining up on the left,

:43:41.:43:45.

with Carney and on the right is Junior Sa'u with Vidot. Again,

:43:46.:43:51.

territory just Castleford's. The man behind the glass was Daryl Powell,

:43:52.:43:56.

the coach of Castleford, twice a Wembley finalist in his playing days

:43:57.:44:00.

with Leeds. Won it in '99, lost it in 2003.

:44:01.:44:07.

Took his side to Wembley a couple of years ago. Webster. With some

:44:08.:44:14.

urgency and determination. Inside the Salford half. Solomona throws it

:44:15.:44:23.

back to the middle. Good run. Salford are back pedalling here.

:44:24.:44:29.

Very good run. Moors to his feet and plays it. Springer. Millington. Good

:44:30.:44:38.

off-load by him. McMeeken flicks it to Monaghan, Monaghan pops it over

:44:39.:44:44.

the top. Crooks. Sandwiched by two defenders, but two tackles for

:44:45.:44:48.

Castleford to impose their advantageous position here. A quick

:44:49.:44:54.

look around and a dart forward by McMeeken. Milner, behind the back of

:44:55.:44:59.

Springer, into the hands of McShane, Solomona is up there! Came offhands

:45:00.:45:03.

and then feet and Solomona touches down. And I feel this might be his

:45:04.:45:10.

second try of the game. But again the referee is asking for video

:45:11.:45:15.

confirmation. Let's see what he says on the field. He says no try on the

:45:16.:45:20.

field and we know how significant that might be, so the video referee

:45:21.:45:30.

with the chance to adjudicate here. We need to check the onside first.

:45:31.:45:36.

It is from a kick. So, yeah, happy with the onside. Happy with the

:45:37.:45:40.

onside. Is he tackled in the air, that is what I need to look at? He

:45:41.:45:53.

goes up for the ball... First glance, he looks as though he's got

:45:54.:45:54.

his hand on him and pulls him back. His hands are on him. And he pulls

:45:55.:46:08.

him down. That's the feeling on-field as well. So he goes up, his

:46:09.:46:16.

hands are on him. And he pulls him back. So I'm going to stick with the

:46:17.:46:24.

on-field call. It will be a penalty, no try, penalty to Salford. The

:46:25.:46:30.

Castleford fans are celebrating because they saw the grounding and

:46:31.:46:34.

thought that was OK. They got that one right. So it remains 22-12. Ten

:46:35.:46:45.

points in it, two scores behind still, Salford. It could have been

:46:46.:46:54.

worse. Vidot. He's been quiet, hasn't he? It is his first game for

:46:55.:47:00.

a long time, his first game for his new club. Is there a penalty there?

:47:01.:47:07.

That's for messing about with him after the tackle had been completed.

:47:08.:47:11.

I think he earned that as well, did Vidot. He is working really hard to

:47:12.:47:17.

try and bring the ball back into play, interfered with, so, rightly,

:47:18.:47:24.

it's a penalty. He had the option of being a WWE wrestler but he signed

:47:25.:47:30.

for Salford. Flanagan. Lui. O'Brien. Jones. Matched by Crooks with the

:47:31.:47:46.

help of a couple of others. O'Brien. Murdoch-Masilla looking to

:47:47.:47:49.

straighten things up and take them on. Two men in the tackle. Two

:47:50.:47:55.

penalties. A really good opportunity for Salford now. George Griffin.

:47:56.:48:03.

Salford within striking range here. Evalds will go from dummy half and

:48:04.:48:08.

it's a wall of Castleford defenders. Flanagan. Dobson. Lui. Lui, reaches

:48:09.:48:19.

and scores! Rob Lui. He is a player of class in the middle of the field

:48:20.:48:23.

and a touch of class has given his side the try here and they are very

:48:24.:48:29.

much back in the game. Determination and effort there from Rob Lui. They

:48:30.:48:35.

needed to come away with something, did Salford, after having that

:48:36.:48:39.

penalty. And my word they did. Here is the penalty. It is Matt Cook, he

:48:40.:48:46.

strips the ball, the penalty is awarded. Rob Lui does back himself

:48:47.:48:52.

and showing a gregs and force to crash his way over. It's a good

:48:53.:48:57.

finish. He has the runners outside that keeps the defenders off him. It

:48:58.:49:02.

is one against one, really. That is a very good finish. Taking the ball

:49:03.:49:06.

to the line on the back of two penalties against Castleford. Sets

:49:07.:49:15.

it up wonderfully well, doesn't it? It's a cracking game. Really good

:49:16.:49:22.

Cup tie and we have more to come tomorrow, St Helens against Hull.

:49:23.:49:24.

That will be a good game as well. 22-18. Really good work from the

:49:25.:49:46.

pivot. Half expecting the half-backs to ship the ball on, Rob Lui doesn't

:49:47.:49:51.

do that, it's a bit of a show and a bit of a go, and the go is with a

:49:52.:49:56.

certain amount of aggression and determination. That is how we get

:49:57.:49:59.

over the whitewash. What have you made of Rob Lui this season? He came

:50:00.:50:10.

from North Queensland, didn't he? We have seen enough evidence in Super

:50:11.:50:14.

League and in today's Challenge Cup tie that he is good structurally,

:50:15.:50:20.

but he is also a running threat. He and Ben Murdoch-Masilla both

:50:21.:50:25.

involved at West Tigers. One other Cup tie goes on today,

:50:26.:50:43.

Oldham against Warrington. You can see there that Warrington have a

:50:44.:50:48.

lead of 22-6. That was a 3.00pm kick-off so they are half an hour

:50:49.:50:53.

behind us here. Warrington very much the nailed-on favourites for that

:50:54.:51:00.

game. Oh, that was a late challenge coming in from Vidot. He looked as

:51:01.:51:06.

though he's hurt himself. In the air... Definitely took him

:51:07.:51:19.

out in the air. Solomona leaps to claim the ball. A tackle in the air,

:51:20.:51:24.

so it's a very obvious penalty. He is lucky there that there is no

:51:25.:51:32.

yellow card. Maybe the hint of the injury that he was showing there was

:51:33.:51:38.

more a kind of a, I'm in trouble here so I will try and get some

:51:39.:51:42.

sympathy. REFEREE: Just keep a lid on Jake

:51:43.:51:46.

Webster for me, please. They are great these conversations on the

:51:47.:51:52.

field. It is as if he is saying, tell Jake Webster to zip it. If it

:51:53.:51:59.

is all square after 80 minutes, we are into golden point extra time,

:52:00.:52:02.

ten minutes each way, if it is all square. Still plenty of time to go,

:52:03.:52:08.

still under half an hour still to play. There are some more points in

:52:09.:52:18.

this game, believe me. It is warm out there, so the energy levels will

:52:19.:52:19.

dip and the gaps will open up. A couple of tackles left in the set.

:52:20.:52:46.

22 metres to cover. Milner. McShane. Hampshire. Webster. Webster. He's a

:52:47.:52:52.

real tough figure to bring down, but he is brought down. Five gone,

:52:53.:52:59.

McShane dances down the blindside. McShane has made something out of

:53:00.:53:04.

nothing! He should not have had any right to get anywhere close to that

:53:05.:53:09.

try line, yet somehow he did. He's been brilliant. Thrust into the

:53:10.:53:19.

half-back position, but he's been alert and now he's finished a try. A

:53:20.:53:26.

brilliant finish. He's gone from his usual position, throw as dummy and

:53:27.:53:31.

that is a great try. We talk about tries from structure and systems,

:53:32.:53:35.

this one is instinct once again from Paul McShane. He looked one way,

:53:36.:53:39.

looked the other and came up trumps. It was on the back of this carry

:53:40.:53:45.

from Jake Webster. My word, he beat some good players there, you know.

:53:46.:53:53.

There is Lui, Sa'u, Weller Hauraki. That is a hooker's try. There's been

:53:54.:53:58.

a clash of heads in all of that. There is a Salford player down

:53:59.:54:03.

injured. Not sure who it is. He is receiving some treatment.

:54:04.:54:09.

Junior Sa'u it is. I think there might be another Salford player

:54:10.:54:14.

injured, is there? Have a look at this. Ooh! It is

:54:15.:54:23.

Junior Sa'u. Desperation to try and stop McShane.

:54:24.:54:37.

Just watch, as they go in, yeah... Ooh! Makes your eyes water just

:54:38.:54:49.

watching that. Yeah. The good thing about this situation, Dave, is the

:54:50.:54:54.

medical side of it. They were straight out there and realising it

:54:55.:54:58.

was a head clash, they are out there doing all the due diligence that is

:54:59.:55:00.

required in such a situation. Some concern for Ian Watson. A new

:55:01.:55:16.

ruling this last year or two, with the concussion. They will take him

:55:17.:55:19.

off now because it's a clash of heads. They will take him off, they

:55:20.:55:22.

will show a green card, so it will be a medical substitution. And then

:55:23.:55:27.

they have 15 minutes to check him, to make sure he is OK. If he is not

:55:28.:55:36.

OK, he stays off the field. If he is OK, he can return to the field and

:55:37.:55:45.

it is not an interchange. I think it takes the decision away from the

:55:46.:55:49.

player. Most players would want to stay on. That is why they have

:55:50.:55:57.

brought that in. Kopczak coming on. O'Brien doesn't look too good. They

:55:58.:56:01.

could be losing two backs here. He is still out there. Paul McShane,

:56:02.:56:09.

magical. His 100th career appearance today, he is kicking goals, scoring

:56:10.:56:19.

tries. Junior Sa'u off the back of Carney there, elusive, determined,

:56:20.:56:21.

marvellous first try of the afternoon. Great finish. Ryan

:56:22.:56:30.

Hampshire right on the money for Joel Monaghan. McMeeken crosses that

:56:31.:56:37.

time. And then another kicked-try, a deft kick for Junior Sa'u before we

:56:38.:56:46.

got another kicked-try to Webster. It's a potent weapon, the kick.

:56:47.:56:51.

Sucking the defenders in. And McMeeken goes in, good support play

:56:52.:56:56.

and finishes it. So many tries, so many good tries.

:56:57.:57:11.

And your favourite try of the lot(!) Great tackle, no try. This is it, to

:57:12.:57:19.

finish it. McShane, clash of heads, and they have both gone off. He's

:57:20.:57:23.

been instrumental in a lot of things that Castleford have done very well.

:57:24.:57:28.

What a great decision and great selection by Daryl Powell to move

:57:29.:57:33.

him into the half-back spot when Luke Gale pulled out. McShane's

:57:34.:57:40.

conversion attempt is cheered by the Castleford fans because over it

:57:41.:57:44.

goes. What a fantastic day he is having here today. 28-18 is the

:57:45.:57:53.

scoreline right now. It is that two-score margin again, that buffer

:57:54.:57:57.

zone that his side, Daryl Powell's side, have once more in this match

:57:58.:58:03.

as Dobson kicks and gets it on the way again. Solomona... And Danny

:58:04.:58:08.

Tickle is on the field. What is going through his mind, Jonathan

:58:09.:58:11.

Davies, after the injury he had in December? Thought his career was

:58:12.:58:16.

over and here he is making his Castleford debut. He has to enjoy

:58:17.:58:20.

it. As a professional rugby player, it is a privileged life.

:58:21.:58:28.

He's got 26 minutes to relish here. His side are leading. By the way,

:58:29.:58:35.

the Rugby League forum coming up after we have finished here today

:58:36.:58:40.

and plenty of people you can fire your questions at. In particular,

:58:41.:58:47.

the Widnes coach and the England assistant coach. So get in touch.

:58:48.:58:57.

Niall Evalds is playing full-back and Hauraki has moved into the

:58:58.:59:04.

centre and Joseph and Kopczak have returned to the fray. So a bit of

:59:05.:59:09.

reorganisation required there by the Salford Red Devils. Milner is

:59:10.:59:20.

struggling a little bit. He is hobbling here. A bit of cramp, I

:59:21.:59:22.

think. Vidot. Trying to run it off and get

:59:23.:59:25.

back into the defensive line. A penalty for Salford. Castleford

:59:26.:00:01.

have kept Murdoch-Masilla quiet. They have but that was a silly,

:00:02.:00:07.

silly penalty. It really was. All this has done is given Salford great

:00:08.:00:17.

field position. Salford have an opportunity. 15 metres out. Six

:00:18.:00:24.

tackles to bang on the door of this Castleford try line. Can they find a

:00:25.:00:25.

way? Castleford's defence is ready and

:00:26.:00:59.

waiting. Lui lost it. It was one-on-one. Salford ball. Castleford

:01:00.:01:15.

knock-on. Did it go forwards --? It is a great opportunity for Salford.

:01:16.:01:24.

Third set on the bounce. Ten metres from the Castleford line. 23 minutes

:01:25.:01:30.

remaining. The cup tie still in the balance. Crooks will have two have a

:01:31.:01:37.

spell on the sideline because of the blood on his bandage. The referee

:01:38.:01:40.

warning him that he has to be cleaned up. Joseph took off like a

:01:41.:01:50.

cannonball from dummy half. They held him up and stopped his

:01:51.:02:01.

progress. Back to ten. Four tackles still to come.

:02:02.:02:21.

Straight to Solomona who was in an offside position. Another set of six

:02:22.:02:33.

for Salford. Yes, I think he went a bit early! It was either Usain Bolt

:02:34.:02:42.

or he was offside. I think it was the latter! Five tackles remaining.

:02:43.:02:51.

The nerves building. Castleford desperately hanging on. A try here

:02:52.:02:58.

for Salford put it right back in the balance. It is another penalty. They

:02:59.:03:03.

are surely not far away from a team warning. It is set number five. Back

:03:04.:03:18.

to the ten metre line. Who is pulling who? Lui... If that had

:03:19.:03:33.

stuck. It had to be him. I thought that Lui was over. It will be

:03:34.:03:38.

interesting to see that again. Monaghan was offside. It is a great

:03:39.:03:47.

late run. He would not have made it. Carney overran it. Psychologically

:03:48.:03:54.

that is huge. Millington defending on the edge. A great piece of work

:03:55.:03:57.

to work so hard from the inside to chasing down. Castleford will be

:03:58.:04:10.

feeling really buoyant after that. Moments like that may just be

:04:11.:04:13.

suggesting that this is not their day. Salford will want to banish

:04:14.:04:18.

those demons from their minds and get back into this. All that

:04:19.:04:23.

pressure, all that opportunity, gone. Again, discipline,

:04:24.:04:31.

frustration. An attacking position for Castleford.

:04:32.:04:43.

The referee just suggesting that Castleford were heading towards a

:04:44.:04:48.

team warning. Just look at this, by the way. This is the Solomona try at

:04:49.:05:00.

the start of the second half. Jonathan Davies justified in his

:05:01.:05:06.

view that that was never grounded. That is one to you, Jonathan! It was

:05:07.:05:26.

clear! Milner is hard. I think it is a nasty one. He has got his leg

:05:27.:05:30.

caught in an awkward position. This is a heartbreaker. Justin Carney

:05:31.:05:41.

comes across and parts Nathan Massey on the shoulder. It is a nasty one.

:05:42.:05:48.

He is caught in a very awkward position. You know it is serious

:05:49.:05:55.

when the opposition player stops straightaway and calls for the

:05:56.:06:03.

physio. The injury situation at Castleford is absolutely ridiculous.

:06:04.:06:11.

I think he is all right. I think he has told the stretcher to get off.

:06:12.:06:19.

I'm not sure if it is a broken leg. He twisted very awkwardly. He seems

:06:20.:06:26.

all right. We will have a look at this. Be careful.

:06:27.:06:42.

He is walking off, which is a very good sign. No rugby player likes to

:06:43.:06:53.

be carried from the field of play. Another injury for Castleford. Great

:06:54.:06:59.

to see that Nathan Massey is being assisted from the field rather than

:07:00.:07:05.

being carried from the field. That ten point gap remains. Castleford

:07:06.:07:14.

getting close to the finish line but not there yet. Salford know that in

:07:15.:07:19.

20 minutes they can still turn this around. They can ill afford to

:07:20.:07:24.

concede again. Castleford are in prime position. Three tackles

:07:25.:07:30.

remaining. The ball has gone free but it has

:07:31.:07:41.

gone backwards. It is OK. A couple of tackles remaining.

:07:42.:08:01.

McMeeken stretching towards his hat-trick but not quite there. That

:08:02.:08:12.

was over the heads of everybody. Not even Solomona is going to get that.

:08:13.:08:18.

Just overcooked a little therefrom Paul McShane.

:08:19.:08:26.

19 off-loads for Castleford, seven for Salford.

:08:27.:08:39.

Carney cannot get into his stride because of the attentions of

:08:40.:08:41.

Castleford. Well read by Solomona. Well read.

:08:42.:09:24.

Hampshire scampering... Castleford have it back. It was a very awkward

:09:25.:09:27.

kick for a Hampshire. He could not get to it. The bounce favoured

:09:28.:09:34.

Castleford. We have news on Nathan Massey's injury. Tanya, what is the

:09:35.:09:42.

news? He dislocated his left kneecap. They put it back in when he

:09:43.:09:48.

was on the pitch. Gareth O'Brien has been cleared to come back on. Sa'u

:09:49.:09:55.

is on the bench. Yes, I will just put it back in while I am on the

:09:56.:10:02.

pitch! Yes, do not bother with a stretcher! Patrick tried to run over

:10:03.:10:07.

the top. Solomona! Just simply go over the

:10:08.:10:36.

top. The video referee is required. The video referee required to make

:10:37.:10:42.

sure this is a try or not. Yes, I have got it. We need to see

:10:43.:10:50.

if they are onside from the kick. OK. The on field call is that Dennis

:10:51.:11:14.

Solomona has not gone from that Palm back. We need to see that again. --

:11:15.:11:17.

knocked on. We need to see that again, please.

:11:18.:11:44.

The on field call is a knock-on. Can we just see that previous angle? It

:11:45.:11:49.

looks as though it does go forward. This one. So it is knocked. And it

:11:50.:12:02.

lands in front of Webster. No try. Handover. Knock-on.

:12:03.:12:24.

I think they guessed it was going to be given as a no try. It was a knock

:12:25.:12:32.

forward. I want to see the grounding. It was excellent. Look at

:12:33.:12:40.

this, leaping like a salmon! Fantastic. If that were on come

:12:41.:12:47.

dancing, that would be a ten! Sensational. Sadly because of the

:12:48.:12:53.

knock-on, it will never be seen again. More salmonella than Solomona

:12:54.:13:06.

on that occasion. 17 minutes to play. Castleford still have the ten

:13:07.:13:13.

point lead. Salford still have a fingertip hold on the game. You just

:13:14.:13:23.

feel that one more score for cars will be enough. -- Cas. But the

:13:24.:13:31.

other side of that is one more Salford score.

:13:32.:13:41.

There is a breeze blowing here now. Played the ball after the tackle was

:13:42.:13:55.

complete. Salford have lost their shape a little bit. You do not see

:13:56.:14:01.

Dobson and Lui orchestrating things. And the loss of Sa'u has been a big

:14:02.:14:12.

blow. Yes, confirmation that June year Sa'u is not coming back. He is

:14:13.:14:20.

off for the rest of the game. I think Castleford have defended

:14:21.:14:27.

marvellously. Their enthusiasm with the off-load and the offensive game

:14:28.:14:29.

has been tremendous, and defensively. They have got a penalty

:14:30.:14:33.

on the back of that. There are some tired looking Salford

:14:34.:14:55.

forwards. Just going for the killer try now, Castleford. They are nearly

:14:56.:15:09.

in the hat for the next round. Gadwin Springer is one of those

:15:10.:15:16.

nematic sounding players. What he sounds like, he does. I do not know

:15:17.:15:22.

what that means. What about Jerry Springer?! 14 minutes remaining.

:15:23.:15:57.

Good play by McShane again. They are saying to Salford, go the full

:15:58.:16:11.

length of the pitch if you are going to come away with any points. Apart

:16:12.:16:17.

from Carney, I cannot see anybody who is going to go the full length

:16:18.:16:24.

of the pitch. There is some heavy breathing going on out there. Carney

:16:25.:16:33.

lost the ball. Advantage play. It does not matter. It was a free play.

:16:34.:16:39.

They go back to the original knock-on. A hint of desperation.

:16:40.:16:49.

Carney trying to changes ball carrying hand to defend. It was a

:16:50.:16:57.

loose carry. One-on-one. I thought Milner would have been better

:16:58.:17:00.

putting the ball through hands. There was a bit of space. I thought

:17:01.:17:07.

the kick was the wrong decision, even though it was a free play.

:17:08.:17:15.

Whenever there is a spill or a mistake, two passes, get it away,

:17:16.:17:17.

there is space out white. Castleford just turning the screw.

:17:18.:17:58.

Until the pressure breaks the Defence! Milner fancies he has got

:17:59.:18:03.

in. He fancies he has got the try. The referee not entirely sure. On

:18:04.:18:08.

the field he says try. It is down to Richard Silverwood again to find

:18:09.:18:13.

evidence not to give this, otherwise Castleford are close.

:18:14.:18:29.

Tackle four. He is in possession. He is short. He is short there. Take

:18:30.:18:37.

that back. Clearly short. Overturn the live

:18:38.:19:04.

call. No try. Tackle five. No try but it is still Castleford's ball.

:19:05.:19:14.

They have been close twice now. Solomona and Milner. No try. Still

:19:15.:19:21.

no conclusion. 12 minutes remaining. One tackle in this play for

:19:22.:19:32.

Castleford. Repeat set. Monaghan dispossessed by Carney. Time is

:19:33.:19:41.

their ally now. They have to play the clock. Keep them out this side

:19:42.:19:53.

of the field. Neither levels is one of those players who can go a long

:19:54.:19:59.

way in a short space of time. -- Niall Evalds.

:20:00.:20:32.

The last play inside their own half. Castleford back in possession. It

:20:33.:20:46.

was an easy take for Hampshire. Good play by Castleford. Finishing

:20:47.:21:24.

the set. Hampshire pudding at high. Asking the question. The ball

:21:25.:21:31.

bounces. After the Castleford touch, according to the referee. Those two

:21:32.:21:38.

wingers are brilliant in the air, competing for the kick. If you give

:21:39.:21:45.

them the ball, you have got an opportunity to come away with

:21:46.:21:49.

something. The kicking game is brilliant. They realise they lacked

:21:50.:21:57.

creativity at half-backs. They keep possession, finish the set. They are

:21:58.:22:06.

doing it very well. Luke Dorn is missing today Andy Lynch, Ben

:22:07.:22:16.

Roberts. Shenton is probably out for the season. He has not entirely

:22:17.:22:21.

ruled himself out for the whole campaign.

:22:22.:22:40.

Castleford content to see that ball go out of play. The second is

:22:41.:22:51.

ticking away. Every second is one step nearer going into the hat for

:22:52.:23:05.

the next round. Daryl Powell standing not too far away from our

:23:06.:23:10.

left-hand side. The energy level with Castleford, they are aggressive

:23:11.:23:13.

in defence. The line speed is still good. Ian Watson, former Wales

:23:14.:23:24.

international. Record cup holder. -- caps. Castleford have constructed

:23:25.:23:32.

the perfect game plan. They have executed it very well. Daryl Powell

:23:33.:23:43.

has had a terrific impact on this club since his arrival. He has

:23:44.:23:48.

lifted them from the doldrums. Fourth and fifth in his last couple

:23:49.:23:52.

of years. They are doing OK this year. They have had a Challenge Cup

:23:53.:24:01.

final. I think Daryl Powell and the chief executive have revitalised

:24:02.:24:06.

this club. They are off to a new venue in a couple of years.

:24:07.:24:23.

The Castleford line is up there to make sure. That is a good chase.

:24:24.:24:35.

Eight minutes remaining and they are still working as hard as ever. It is

:24:36.:24:43.

important to keep Salford in this part of the field. One tried now and

:24:44.:24:52.

it gets nervy. Carney had the ball dragged away from him. According to

:24:53.:25:06.

the referee. It could be debatable. There is responsibility with the

:25:07.:25:15.

ball carrier. There is a hint of a hope for Salford.

:25:16.:25:28.

Four tackles remaining. Less than ten metres to cover for Salford put

:25:29.:25:36.

themselves right back in this contest.

:25:37.:25:49.

Solomona is not offside this time! No doubts this time. It is a

:25:50.:25:56.

question of whether he can outpace Murdoch-Masilla. Of course he can!

:25:57.:26:03.

He has gone the distance. Dennis Solomona finally does claim his

:26:04.:26:08.

second try of the game. And in so doing he has in all probability won

:26:09.:26:17.

the game for Castleford. That is it. As the boys said in the studio, he

:26:18.:26:23.

is a great athlete. He has become a very fine rugby player. He reads the

:26:24.:26:28.

game exceptionally well. Once he got the ball, that was it. You can put

:26:29.:26:37.

your glass down, if you are having a drink, and start clapping as soon as

:26:38.:26:44.

he hits fresh air. He is so confident. That is a real athlete's

:26:45.:26:50.

try. It is a rugby player's read and an athlete's finis. Rate to watch.

:26:51.:26:57.

He has got pace to burn. All in control. He knows he is going over

:26:58.:27:01.

for his third try, his hat-trick. A great finish. He just treated well.

:27:02.:27:07.

They have got the numbers on the right-hand side. He puts himself in

:27:08.:27:11.

a position where they cannot get to the outside. If they throw the past,

:27:12.:27:19.

he accepts it and runs 90 yards. Another player you have to credit

:27:20.:27:24.

Daryl Powell with. He was with London. Then signed last year, a

:27:25.:27:33.

relative unknown. Relatively untested in Super League. He has

:27:34.:27:39.

taken Super League by storm. His 34th try in 28 appearances. They got

:27:40.:27:46.

McMeeken from London as well. They have both been real successes.

:27:47.:27:58.

He was originally with Melbourne Storm. I do not think he got beyond

:27:59.:28:05.

the under 20s. McShane with the kick. He put that wide. He will not

:28:06.:28:10.

care. Jonathan Davies, the man of them at Accra? He has scored a

:28:11.:28:18.

hat-trick but for me... Of areas, interception is great. Lovely

:28:19.:28:26.

finish. For me, McMeeken, Webster have played well. Solomona has

:28:27.:28:31.

played well. But the standout player and the Ladbrokes man of the match

:28:32.:28:37.

is that guy there, Paul McShane. But into the half-backs position. He has

:28:38.:28:42.

been absolutely brilliant. Try scoring, kicking game, convergence.

:28:43.:28:52.

-- conversions. He has done everything. His century of games

:28:53.:28:59.

today. He can lift his bat and take the acclaim of everybody. McShane

:29:00.:29:09.

still winding things up. Three and a half minutes left. They will be

:29:10.:29:20.

singing and dancing here at the end. They always do a rendition of Sweet

:29:21.:29:25.

Caroline when they have won. The whole ground joins in. If you fancy

:29:26.:29:36.

a singalong, get ready. Doing the basics right again. He has enjoyed

:29:37.:29:44.

himself, hasn't he? He has controlled it. As the game has

:29:45.:29:51.

progressed, he has got better and better, more comfortable. Daryl

:29:52.:29:57.

Powell has constructed his game plan. The players have done it

:29:58.:30:02.

really well. If you are switching on fur Final Score, where have you

:30:03.:30:10.

been? ! It will be along shortly. More excellent rugby tomorrow for St

:30:11.:30:14.

Helens against Hull. Not sure how that decision has been

:30:15.:30:32.

reached but it is a penalty. It is a knock-on. I think that was

the touch judge helping out. Final Score will be following as soon as

:30:57.:31:04.

we have finished here. A credit to the touch judge. They got it right

:31:05.:31:17.

together. Two minutes to go. With Luke Gale dropping out, Salford

:31:18.:31:21.

would have fancied their chances but they have responded exceptionally

:31:22.:31:22.

well. They have used their interchange

:31:23.:31:40.

sparingly because Hitchcox has just come on. The scoreline indicates

:31:41.:31:45.

they have used them well. It is a lovely step, he just rode

:31:46.:31:53.

the tackle. Hard in by Patrick, Castleford,

:31:54.:32:21.

Challenge Cup finalists two years ago, are they setting off on a

:32:22.:32:27.

similar path again? A real test here today against a very good Salford

:32:28.:32:32.

team. They are passing it with flying colours.

:32:33.:32:39.

They are going into the draw for the next round with flying colours.

:32:40.:32:46.

Joseph. Plenty of evidence still from Murdoch-Masila. Salford

:32:47.:33:01.

continuing right until the end with real intent. The last few seconds.

:33:02.:33:11.

O'Brien. A penalty for Salford. This will be

:33:12.:33:22.

the last act of the game. It is kicked out so there will be just

:33:23.:33:29.

time, the hooter is sounding but they have the time for the restart.

:33:30.:33:35.

What do they do? They might as well go for glory. Robert Lui with a

:33:36.:33:45.

step. Nothing changes even if they score but look at this and it is

:33:46.:33:51.

kicked out by Ryan Hampshire and confirmation of a very fine

:33:52.:33:57.

Castleford victory, 32-12. Wonderful stuff here. They have enjoyed it

:33:58.:34:03.

here on a sunny afternoon. Salford have played their part. Junior Sa'u

:34:04.:34:09.

with a couple of tries that gave them real hope but it is Cas who win

:34:10.:34:14.

it in the end. Paul McShane is the man of the match. Congratulations.

:34:15.:34:21.

Given all the players you had out, what does that say about this group?

:34:22.:34:27.

We have been on about it all year, some of the results are not gone our

:34:28.:34:32.

way but the togetherness is showed every week and today proved it. Some

:34:33.:34:40.

key players missing. How much does it mean to be in the hat for the

:34:41.:34:45.

next round? It's massive. These boys are still hungry. To get there this

:34:46.:34:50.

year would be amazing. Congratulations. Thank you.

:34:51.:34:55.

We have an awful lot to react to and we will do it in the BBC Rugby

:34:56.:35:04.

league forum which will be on the BBC sport website and the red button

:35:05.:35:09.

from 5:30pm. That was a remarkable performance. Thoroughly deserved,

:35:10.:35:16.

they outplayed and found enough creativity to get over the line. It

:35:17.:35:22.

was a cracking tie. We want your questions for Brian Noble and also

:35:23.:35:31.

for Denis Betts. And we want to hear from Castleford and Salford fans as

:35:32.:35:39.

they celebrate here at The Jungle. Tomorrow it is St Helens against

:35:40.:35:44.

Hull tomorrow on BBC Two and next, there has been a remarkable day at

:35:45.:35:48.

the Stadium of Light and we will join Final Score next. We will see

:35:49.:35:51.

you tomorrow.
