England v Fiji Rugby League World Cup

PS going on his own and he is going to school at! And he goes! Here is a

try, coming down. No World Cup wins in England in both

1995 and 2000 but this Fijian team are very physical and should pose a

threat. Steve McNamara's men will be worthy of an upset as illegitimate

they're placed in a group the world final. We are expecting a sell-out

crowd here at the KC Stadium and with me is a former England captain,

Jamie Peacock. England national Jon Wilkin and Brian Noble. Before we

talk about the game, some sad news from the world of Rugby League.

Steve Prescott has passed away. The St Helens Andrew Wakefield full back

has been battling a rare form of stomach cancer. Brian, he has been

an inspirational figure in that battle? Extremely sad time. It is

hard not to reflect on the bravery he has had and the courage he had

four other people and the example and inspiration he has given.

Infighting and with his battle. Wearside and extremely upset, but it

is important we take his legacy and all the brilliant things he did in

his latter years to inspire us to live with a smile on our face and

understand the courage that he has shown. You got to know him very well

at St Helens? Yes, devastating news. As a friend, to just be given the

privilege to cross paths with him for that short time that I did. That

was a huge honour for me. He is an example of human insurance and we

all have the spirit to ensure tough times in our lives and Steve,

against all advice, he had that injury and is and my thoughts go to

his wife and kids and from everybody who has ever known him. As Brian

mentioned, his memory will injury through the actions he did and the

amazing feats he achieved with his illness. Just desperately

disappointing and a sad day for everybody who knows Steve. It is

hard news to deal with. But the research of positive message to come

out of this going forward. Everybody talks about the Rugby League family

but his family will gather around and he gathered that factory --

family in raising money in battling cancer? He was a great layer. But he

was also a great man of the pitch. And great men leave long-lasting

impacts and I think that Steve will. He was kind, courageous and brave

and his charity work will go on for a lifetime. And he will be

remembered in one-minute silence that we will have for remembrance

weekend. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this very sad

time. Brian, today's game. We are expecting something pretty physical?

We have just seen the Aegean team and we're usually quite impressed

with the size of the England team but watch out, this is a physical

matchup. The Aegean 's fancy this a little bit with the noises coming

from their camp suggesting they had saved up for this weekend. This is

the big one. England will have to be very good and have to continue that

momentum. Looking at the Group A table, it is important that England

win this and finished as runners-up? They want to finish in that second

spot. That is important but even more important is getting confidence

and gathering momentum and going into the big games coming up and

stop the quarterfinal at the semifinal. They will be tough. Today

is all about the England team producing a polished performance. I

bumped into Steve McNamara and he seems very confident that England

will start today. The Fijian side have power and strength and

physicality. England have got to match that and go over the top of

the Fijian pack at the start of this. Look Campbell. Johnny

Whiteley, legendary player. Especially in this area. What a

wonderful site. That is a cracking Trophy! You politely tipped us off

last week that you scored a memorable hat-trick against Fiji in

2000? I don't like talking about that! It was a great day for myself.

I managed to get the chance to do that as a forward. Like all of my

memories of the game, against the Aegean 's. Your dentist has an

abiding memory as well! Three of your teeth? Three of my back teeth

project. That is what the England boys have got to expect today but

you have to just get on with it. You did say last week that it is going

to hurt! It'll be like a Test Match, playing a physical side but England

are physical and they have Sam Burgess. It will be great. It has

been another week of drama and a sell-out crowd in this Rugby League

World Cup. Here is Damian Johnson with the midweek action. Narrowly

defeated by France in the opening game, New Guinea had to content with

two games in five days. First up was some at Craven Park. They proved too

strong, however. Frank Winters Dean gathering the hat-trick in this

victory. It did not get better in Leeds as a guinea pig on the Kiwis.

Billy Williams scored a hat-trick of the was a hint of deja vu about his

second. The New Zealanders were easy winners, 56-10. After the opening

defeat by Scotland, Tonga faced the Cook Islands on Tuesday, desperate

for a victory. They gave themselves hope that that entertaining fixture.

-- at an entertaining fixture. Tonga needed this lots to slip up two days

later against the USA. Priestley dribbling that through! They got

after the possible start, finding themselves age -0 down at half-time

of the second half was different. Brett Phillips! Was across to

Russell. And he cuts a hole right through the middle. Inspired by

Danny Brough, Scotland round rampant. Douglas scoring the third

of three tries in 12 minutes. The game was made safe towards the end.

But the brave hearts face and actions wait to see if they've

qualified. Italy taking on Tonga tomorrow, knowing a win would take

them through at the expense of Scotland. This is a table. Better

with Group B. The easiest to explain. The USA or the one team to

qualify and the reward is added the group winners of Group A, Australia.

One team going through from Group C. Either Scotland or Italy. Italy and

Tonga play tomorrow. Italy need to win to go through. Group B. France

and Samoa play on Monday. England, if they've eat Fiji, they will play

the loser of that. We will have highlights of that France game on

Monday night on BBC Two at 11:20pm. New Zealand look good last night.

Williams was excellent. But he almost slipped up and did not get

the ball down? You could see the smile on his face. He gave a

masterclass, particularly in the first-half. He ran the ball, he

passed the ball. He showed up in the middle and standard left-hand side.

We were all hoping for more embarrassment but he managed to get

that down in the end. He has got some great tackle. Williams gets the

headlines but behind him is a very strong physical pack. Very difficult

to stop, once New Zealand get on that front foot. He made some great

decisions last night as well. In the first 30 minutes, that was perfect

preparation for what they want to complete. Those big boys in the

middle. It was a conveyor belt of big blokes. Including releasing them

on the fringes at the right times. We have heard a lot about the

Burgess brothers. But the Fijian is how much real of their own. Damian

Johnson has been to meet them. I am Korbin Sims and I play for Fiji. Who

is the most competitive? He gets pretty aggressive sometimes. Tariq

Sims, second row. Who takes a longer is to get ready for any night out?

Probably Korbin Sims. The quickest is Ashton Sims. Korbin takes the

longest. His hygiene is not number one! Coming from Dragon breath!

Ashton Sims, front row. There are so many brothers and the different

teams. There must be so many proud families out there. Nearly one in

every team. Better with the ladies? Definitely Korbin Sims! I can get up

and down the field! Yes! Please! Potentially, up against the Burgess

brothers. You know them from Australia. Hopefully there will be a

point in this game and all three are on the field with us and that would

be good. I know that we will not take any backwards step and now the

will they. Out of the three of us, Korbin Sims is the biggest. He is

too busy with the ladies! Fiji were the surprise of 2008. You were

there. Is the feeling even better than that? Certainly, I told them we

had the better squad on paper. We have more experience this time and

we have something special. I am looking forward to giving this World

Cup a good shake-up. Who is the heaviest? May! Yes! The real daddy

of the team is the receiver? He is the Boss? We still check ourselves

for training and egg cannot believe that Petero Civoniceva was there. To

be playing alongside him. There was a World Cup and everything can

happen. There is talk about us and there are a lot of good players on

both teams. We will not take this step back. Neither will they. It

will be a really good game. There is no Tom Burgess for England,

we have got George and Sam and an amazing 15 sets of brothers in this

World Cup. Is a genetic engineering going on? ! Nature and nurture. If

you have the right genetic code, you had a good chance of making it.

There are a lot of NRL players. Lots of experience. Lots of quality. That

is where England are taking them seriously and Fiji fancy their

chances. They played too defensively against Australia did not go out to

try and win. This game, they fancy they can win it. But on the wing, he

is a big loss? He could score from anywhere. We were talking before, do

you keep the ball? Keep the ball away from him. But he is not

featuring today and that is a big loss for Fiji. But they still have

got plenty in their arsenal to test England. I expect a very big battle

up front. The Burgess boys, they will not step back. Fireworks, that

would suggest. We had word that the coach is resting Akuila Uate. Robbie

has the game plan. Fiji have come do this as underdogs but they have

enough talent within these ranks and the potential banana skin is from

the middle of the park, by the Rugby League legend, Petero Civoniceva. He

will be supported by the giant brothers, Ashton Sims, Tariq Sims

and Korbin Sims. Their job is to punch holes into the English defence

and if they can do that well, they will be able to set up their plays.

They will also need to absorb all about English offence coming at them

because England have gone for size. It is up to these boys to do the

job. It has been a tricky week for England at -- after Zak Hardaker

withdrew from the squad on Monday. We will talk about Fiji in a moment.

What does it mean for you personally to be leading your country out? It

is great. The Hull public, they love sport and rugby league in

particular. To come out and coach country in your hometown, it is

great. What about the opposition? You know it will be a physical

encounter. How do you prepare for that in training? Were aware of the

physical threats that Fiji bring. We think we have a physical threat

ourselves. We have been preparing well from this tournament since our

last game. There is a sense of brotherhood about the Fijian team.

We spoke to the Sims Brothers earlier. Yes, they are terrific boys

and they have done well for raising this tournament. It is a really

close-knit community. They have a strong face as well. We enjoy each

other's company. There are 23 players in the squad. I do convince

their together? Yes, 100%. They are tremendously talented. The urge

united and determined to do well in the competition. We have a

magnificent sight. The red Devils parachute team are bringing in the

match ball. Amazingly, they are all managing to land on the pitch. It is

incredible stuff to watch. Let's have a look at the England team.

What strikes you about the side that Steve McNamara has selected? There

are couple of changes. Michael McIllorum is having a crack in the

middle. We'll have to see what Rob Burrow offer. He is a threat. Liam

Farrell is on the bench. They do not like size. -- lack size. You spoke

to Zak Hardaker this week. What did you have to say Tim? He knows that

he has done things that do not live up to the standards of England. He

is looking forward to getting back out there and playing well for

Leeds. Let's speak about Michael McIllorum who has come into the

side. He has had a fantastic season in super league. Yes. Michael

McIllorum is a slightly different player from the others available. He

has some of the best statistics in terms of tackles, carries, meter is

made with the ball, the volume of work he can get through. He allows

other players to be fresh for longer periods. He is really smart with the

ball. A key part of how England play today will be Mac alone. I will be

excited to watch Sam Burgess in the middle of the field as a prop. I

think that is the way that England should way for the rest of the World

Cup. You can see the England dressing room, and in the bottom

corner, you can see Rangi Chase. He is from New Zealand, but he is at

the heart of this England team. Yorkshire has become his home. He

has been talking about what England means to him.

I came over as a 22-year-old. I did not really have any instruction in

my life off the field. Then I met my wife, and we had a kid, and it

changed me. I have a whole different outlook on life. All I am worried

about is my family. I want to put my family first. I am not worried about

partying and drinking. It has improved me as a person, my

confidence. Rangi Chase, this is what he does. What was your reaction

when you were asked to play for England? I saw my long-term future

here. I wanted to represent England. This is home for me. You came in for

a lot of criticism when you did come in. How tough was that to take? Yes,

it was difficult, but I'm committed to the cause. I wanted to do it for

my family, for my little boy. The runners are coming, and Rangi Chase

is after it. He got there first. How do you reflect on the weekend's

performance against Ireland? From your own point of view, your best

performance in an England shirt? Yes, I would agree. We had a lot

more ball than them. The more touches I get, the easier it is to

get into the game. You have got to adapt and play the way that suits

the team. Sometimes I might have to push and support. That is the way it

goes. Everyone in the squad is pretty dominant at club level. Play

revolves around them. It is getting the mixture right. Lots of people do

not see the work that goes on off the ball for each other. He is bound

to have a big part to play, but that is the Fiji dressing room. In the

middle, Ashton Sims. You have picked out Ashton Sims against Sam Burgess

as your big head-to-head. Yes. I think that Sam Burgess will lead the

battle for England. as your big head-to-head. Yes. I

think that Sam Burgess will lead He will be looking to play the ball

very quickly. Ashton Sims is very similar. They have both played

around 200 career games. Both will be looking to inspire their team

through physicality. They are both imposing players. They have gone for

a big physical side England? Yes, but I think they are all natural

food hollers. Many of the players are large and aggressive, but they

can also play. The players in the tunnel, will this be a little bit if

and for Fiji? It is a bigger crowd than they are used to. They have had

the crowd on their side, particularly when the play that

Rochdale? I do not think the crowd will faze them at all. Petero

Civoniceva has been named the biggest stadiums in the world. --

has been in the. I think that Fiji will be better trying to play than

being physical all the time. It is about balance. If you go too far

down the physicality route, or too far down the skilled route, that

will be bad. It is about finding the balance. We will let you go to the

commentary box. What are your final thoughts on the game? I think it

will be a really entertaining game for all lot of years. I think we

will be surprised by how much both teams play. I would like to see

England concentrate for longer. The dropping concentration was there

against Australia and Ireland. Every team has a dropping concentration,

but I would like to see England concentrate for longer. They need to

do that for 80 minutes? Yes, I think Steve McNamara's message today will

be for an 80 minute performance. Against Ireland, their concentration

wondered in the second half. They will be looking to be ruthless today

against this Fijian team. Now we are going to have the anthems.

former Hull FC player this morning. Steve Prescott. Everybody involved

with the game of rugby league will be saddened by the loss of this

truly inspirational man. Throughout his long illness, Steve was always

dignified, noble and brave, not least during his fantastic charity

work for the Steve Prescott foundation. Please stand for one

minute's silence so we can show our respect for Steve Prescott.

Emotional scenes as a spontaneous applause broke out. Moving times. An

hackers throughout this tournament but the Fijians don't have one. They

League World Cup for England. It is sure to be physical!

Noble and Dave Woods. There was a desperately sad news but

I am sure that the England players will draw on the inspiration of

Steve Prescott. England have Sam Burgess back from suspension and

gets to go in front. Tom Briscoe on the wing. And Rob Burrow has the

potential to excite all of us off the bench. Fiji, siblings. Ashton

Sims, Korbin Sims, Tariq Sims. Kevin Naiqama and Waisale Ligani Naiqama.

And Daryl Millard. No lack of understanding in that side today.

There he is. The old man, Petero Civoniceva. , to the end of what has

been a fantastic career. Representing his home nation. And

Sam Burgess going up against him as well. Starting in the front row.

That'll be a confrontation to look forward to. It is a full game to

look forward to. Ben Cummings is the referee. The video referee is

available, if necessary. What is not to love about this? It has been a

lifetime of adventures and fabulous memories already. Only a fortnight

but that has taken us to Cardiff and Wrexham and whole and all points in

between. We have had some wonderful matches. Some wonderful tries. And

this should be good fun as well. This will be great fun. Really

looking forward to this. England have the first touch of the

ball. Both sides should qualify for the quarterfinals but they will want

to finish as the runners up in Group A to Australia and they have to win

today. It will certainly be France or Samoa for one of these sides in

those quarterfinals. Here comes James Graham. Just short of that

Fijian half. He puts that high, Kevin Sinfield. An early test for

Kevin Naiqama. He was very fortunate. He had every intention,

Kevin Naiqama, of catching that. That was a great kick from Kevin

Sinfield. Rear platform set up for England. And a very good crowd, they

have just gone quiet. Fiji driving it forward. Petero Civoniceva with

early take. We do not mention Ben Westwood very much but he has been

very impressive and he is a very physical presence and self. It is a

very physical English pack, isn't it? With Sam Burgess back in it. And

Sean O'Loughlin, both featuring in the same pack for the first time.

Sam Tomkins. He will test this the GM line. -- Fijian line. So, England

down the right-hand side with Watkins. Sinfield, Westwood.

Galloping forward. Michael McIllorum also brings a lot to the steam. --

this team. He is a very smart player.

Michael McIllorum, skipping back. More positive this time and he

catches that well. That was a fair curry on the second plane.

Fiji behind the 40 metre mark. Sam Tomkins running this back. England

looking to set themselves up. Interesting see what reaction Tom

Briscoe gets. England have the early advantage, they are making more

metres and they are kicking more than Fiji. If they keep this up, it

is only a matter of time before they get that scoring break. Sinfield

moving into that side. Brett Ferres down that left channel. 30 metres to

cover. They still had a couple of tackles in the bag. Rangi Chase, he

has dealt with that. He was put under pressure with that pass. Rangi

Chase was rushed previously do that as well. There was an execution if

you are not. -- execution issue. Sean O'Loughlin cannot quite gather

that in from Rangi Chase. 4.5 minutes played. They have both a

meeting by Australia. But then they both registered wins against

Ireland. And they are looking for a mood lifter ahead of those

quarterfinals today. Burgess getting stuck in. Referee says play again.

Fiji looking to build. From very much deep inside their own half.

England have beaten them, they have played them over the years and have

eaten them easily. I remember that memorable game in Central Park back

in 1985. England had an easy win at

Headingley back in 2000. You would expect anything but that today.

Ashton Sims. Ryan Miller, one of those many

brothers on show today. And there was that clearance. Confidence

booster early. Fiji acting like the fact that they won some foot prints.

He handled that very well. It accurate, he has grown very well in

this. That was great by Tomkins. England just short of that halfway

line. Sean O'Loughlin goes galloping forward. Here comes Kevin Sinfield.

The Fijian defence recovers well enough. Sam Tomkins with the kick.

Maybe too far? And that was easy on that side. Exciting some Fijians in

the crowd. On the 40 metre mark. It was not the greatest kick from Sam

Tomkins. No pressure because the chasers could not quite get there.

They will be looking to put that right. Taken in by 97 macro. And

that cash forward by Petero Civoniceva. He is a lovely bloke.

Kicking behind Ryan Hall. Keeping it in play. Sam Tomkins, open field in

which to run. Those flying feet! And Briscoe put his foot down! Penalty,

because that was high. It was. I thought Tom Briscoe had the legs.

But the Fijians had numbers. But his footwork caused his arm to come up

and that was a great pass from Tomkins. Get that in here! That was

a fair tackle. He stopped and Jayson Bukuya did not. That was the

problem. That has come free with the

off-load. Here comes Sam Burgess. Taking it forward and giving England

a real platform. Graham has got runners to his left. Leroy Cudjoe,

with Tomkins behind. Michael McIllorum jumps up to that dummy

half position. Kevin Sinfield, the ball back inside. Sean O'Loughlin.

Michael McIllorum again. Still a couple of tackles left to go. And it

is going to be Fiji with his ashen again. They are looking great in

their approach. But they cannot quite execute that final play. They

want to improve upon that and then they have the discipline issue.

Holding down the player with the ball. That is a let off for the

Fijians. This has been a promising start for England? Their approach

work has been fantastic, needs a little bit of polish at the end of

the set. They are not quite so accurate with that kick from Sam

Tomkins. And we can see a couple of passes that they have pushed. But

they do look to be playing, don't they? The Fijians had a chance to

build from the back. 28 NACRO, pushing it forward. He is

a grand old man of Rugby League. He will leave his boots in Bolton at

the end of this. That is where his training camp is. He told his wife

he will not be coming back to play rugby anywhere. Released the outside

back. The best field position so far for the Fijians. The final tackle in

this, of the boot. Tomkins has to claim that. The ball has gone

forward. And that will be a handover. It was one of those big

Sims brothers. That is a handover. Their best result from the end of

set completion. Competition for the ball, creating confusion in the

England team. Michael McIllorum, dummy half. Sean O'Loughlin with a

solid drive forward. We have a ball lost. What will the referee gave?

Having a word with the judge on the far side to make his decision. It'll

be a penalty for England. We have just gone past the 11 minute mark.

This is exactly where the G1 to be. They are stopping England from

scoring. England are going to turn up the pressure. Artists eg can get

to the 20 minute mark, perhaps England will start to feel the

pressure. -- but if Fiji can get to the 20-minute mark.

That was very nearly an interception opportunity. But it was just held on

by Leroy Cudjoe. England's approach work is good.

They are going to create space. England looked very solid

defensively, but this is about concentration.

The referee is happy with that tackle. Ryan Hall has come across to

lend his considerable weight and expertise to the position that

England find themselves in. Ashton Sims was looking for him. I

do not know if they have had works. -- had words. That was into the

hands of Kallum Watkins, who could not quite get clear. He could not

quite get his hands free to release Tom Briscoe for the score. The

Fijian defence is hanging on a little.

Ashton Sims is claiming there was a penalty. Get up and play, says the

referee. This will be an England kick. Ashton Sims is complaining

bitterly that he has been dragged around. He probably has a point.

Ashton Sims is a veteran of this Fiji team. He played in all four of

their games back in 2008. They made the semifinals that year. My word,

they make some ripples. They are looking to trouble England in this

game. But so far, England are looking OK.

This is Ryan Hall. Kevin Sinfield wants to get on with it.

Korbin Sims has knocked it down. He has given England another six-year,

because they get the scrum. -- another six. You are right, six more

plays for England. What news from the touchline? I have Tom Burgess

with me. What do you think of the start that England have made? I

think the boys are doing a good job. We will just carry on with the game

and see how we go. Fiji must be happy with the job they are doing in

defence? Yes, they have started well, they are doing well. While

played by Daryl Millard. -- well played. He has no other option but

to bring the ball dead. The pressure might begin to tell. You would

suspect. England need to take advantage. England just need to be

patient. They have plenty in their locker. Michael McIllorum is pivotal

to most of the opportunities they are creating. England have six more

tackles. It is a penalty. James Graham, lifted into the air.

He is not going to like that. I think there might be a response

later in this game from James Graham. I think it was Korbin Sims

are Tariq Sims. It is carbon. They know that is outlawed in the game.

There is a big green grass on his head, the mark on his head. The good

thing is that all the players recognised it was illegal. Carbon

stood up himself straightaway and took the heat out of the situation.

-- Korbin. I think the fans felt that he should have been spending

some time on the sidelines with a red or yellow card. But he remains

on the field and England get a penalty right in front of the

sticks. Burgess. Did he get it down? I think

he did. The referee is going to check with the video referee. Is

this the opening try not for Sam Burgess? He has got the ball, he has

lost the ball. He has lost the ball short of the line. Can you just play

this on? We will see what happens after this. We have got a knock-on

short of the line. He has just lost control of the ball. It is no try.

We are going back to a try -- we are going back to a scrum for Fiji. The

England supporters are disappointed. They know it is going to be denied.

But what about the tackle from Ashton Sims to make sure that he did

lose that ball? It was great. He has done the professional thing and gone

back and disrupted the try scoring play. James Graham with a great

boulder. Ashton Sims is having a big game. He is very much a presence in

the Fijian pack. 20 minutes played, and it is still scoreless. England

have had their opportunities. Leroy Cudjoe is offside. A penalty for

Fiji will help them clear their lines.

Kevin Naiqama is the player to take it out of play.

That is a penalty for Fiji. Milan could have got his hands free again.

He was in for another try scoring opportunity. -- Daryl Millard. Fiji

fancy their chances. That was cutting effort by those 2/

he is hard. I promise you, he is hard. -- by those two forwards. He

is hurt. Daryl Millard has the try. He is going to the ferret back to

How will this go down locally? They will have another look. Just go back

against Fiji for tackling Tomkins without the ball. What a let for

England! That fumble by Tomkins but the tackle of the ball and that has

saved the scalps. They get away with a penalty. The video referee have

the right decision in the end. Daryl Millard got the ball down OK. Tariq

Sims tackling Sam Tomkins and he does not given any opportunity to

make any defensive play. He fumbled that between his legs. The

explanation provided by the referee to Petero Civoniceva. Ended with a

penalty. My word, that would have been a sucker punch! All England for

open. This game has got a lot tougher for England. Eloni Vunakece

30 minutes in the first half, what is it like in the middle of the

park? England are tough. They have a really good forward pack. Going in

the level at half time. You must be happy with the performance? , but we

want another good 40 minutes. How are you feeling at the moment? Is it

going to plan? It is a physical game. We have probably not completed

at the level that we want, but we will fix that in the second half.

You have had most of the possession and field possession but not been

able to put the ball over the try-line. Yes. We will play simple

football and stick to that. Hopefully we will do better in the

second half. Let's look at the statistics. England are on top, but

you said it during the commentary, they are not executing. England are

dominating the territory with their physicality. But in the opponents'

half, they are not finishing. You need that at this level. Is it

decision-making, fluency? It is a bit of both. Perhaps the passing has

not been crisp. The timing has not been there, but the promising thing

is that England are here to compete. They are dominating field

possession. They just need to finish more positively. They need to get

repeat sets. What is lacking is a composed end to the sets of six.

Defensively, England have generally looked solid, apart from the try?

Yes, they have looked good in the physical encounters. When they have

got down to the Fijian end of the pitch, they have created scoring

chances. Look at this. This is fantastic setup play from Fiji. They

are highlighting the power of pitting to make athletic runners on

one defender. It leaves Kallum Watkins with a tough decision to

make. -- of putting two athletic runners. This shows what Fiji can do

with limited opportunities. England have not created the chances and

converted them into points. Look at this. Kevin Sinfield goes direct. He

heads towards their try-line. Ben Westwood deserve this. He has been

outstanding in the first half. Ben Westwood creates the try by being

such a threat. It is the line that he runs. Kevin shows him the ball.

Kevin is one of the top of loaders in rugby league. -- offloaders. I

think that England have done well. We are now taking. We knew it was

going to be a tough game. They just need to tweak things a little bit.

The passing, the execution. I think they will come away with the victory

in the second half. We said beforehand it was going to be

physical. Sam Burgess has been a real powerhouse? Yes, what you get

with him is pretty much everything you would want in a rugby league

player. He is big, strong, physical, aggressive. He is aggressive and

that aggression has seen him get into trouble couple of times this

year, but that is his nature and it is what makes him such a great

player. He put himself in positions to get involved all of the time.

That is really encouraging. He has had certainly -- he certainly has

had a good running battle with Sims. This is a fantastic piece of play.

When you play alongside people, that is who you want to play with, those

guys that put in the extra effort. You would rather be set up here than

facing all three Sims brothers. They have put themselves about? Yes, they

have been at the heart of everything that please two have done. But they

are teetering on that line between too much. They have been integral to

what Fiji are doing. There have been some big impacts in this game. It

has been a great game of rugby. Should this have been a

sending-off? It looks bad, but I think that when you are picked up,

your natural instinct is to find your way to the floor. I know James

Graham well, and he has quite a big head! That is the problem, he is

top-heavy. The number of times we have mentioned physicality in the

build-up to this game, and it has not disappointed. What do you make

of this head-to-head between Sam Burgess and Ashton Sims? I think

they represent what is good about both teams. 19 tackles for Burgess,

that is a lot of work for a front row to have done in one half. Ashton

Sims has played fewer minutes, but he has 20 tackles. That is a lot. I

think that England are the fitter team and I think that they will

finish stronger. The question is whether Fiji can maintain this level

of performance for the next 40 minutes? This is the disallowed Fiji

try. I think he could have pulled out of that. I think it is the right

decision, looking back at it. Do you agree? I am not sure. For me, that

is a real 50-50 call. I am not sure that Sam has made the error. If he

has hit him without the ball, it should be a penalty. It just shows

how dangerous this Fijian side are. They have had one disallowed try and

they have scored a great try through some really good structure. That is

the worrying thing for England. Fiji could be dangerous. If this

a team, and we work as best mates. I play rugby because I like it. It

keeps you fit. Keith has been involved all day. You have been

helping to referee. While events like this important? It is great. We

do it for the community. The councillor involved as well. It is

about having a good time. It is brilliant. I was the best woman in

the match. My average, I scored five tries. How did you get involved? My

brother played a very long time ago in Huddersfield when it was Wigan

against Hull and that inspired me. And I just started from there. Nine

years old. And progressed into a career I have really enjoyed.

Basically, I was a contract signing. I was not there rest of kids as a

child and I needed some release and rugby was a great way for me to do

that. Without sport, my life would have gone any completely different

direction. It gave me all the qualities I need. And I work for the

foundation because the model is changing lives through sport. Around

the country, thousands of people are playing in tournament 's just like

this. You don't have to be the next Kevin Sinfield, just get out there

and enjoy yourself and get active. We will have the highlights of Italy

and Tonga, that crunch game and Scottish fans will be watching

it has been breathtaking with all of those venues. And the matches we

have seen. Tonga against Italy tomorrow. Who would have thought

that that was going to be such a mouthwatering prospect? At Halifax,

we have seen the USA against Scotland. That was another

magnificent game and Scotland or unbeaten so far. A lot of surprise

packages and some different names. Wiggles, even they got involved! Are

England going to make sure that Fiji do not shock the world in the second

half by grabbing a hold of this match? What a start! That kick-off

has biased kindly and straightaway, England are up and running. They are

only ten metres away. Burgess again! Sam Burgess! Unstoppable! And the

Fijian 's, forum then, kind them, could not keep him out! And England

have the perfect start to this second half. That is answer. He just

took a big leap, for the high bar, and he dragged for people over the

line. Watch this. The kick-off was first and foremost. Somebody has to

clean that up. Instant field position. Just what the doctor

ordered. He appears. The top right of your screen. Then he gets the

ball. Left foot, right foot. He has gone through six defenders, there.

Scattered. This was a terrific effort. Absolutely terrific. To keep

forcing his way over. And that is the perfect left for England. In the

early stages, as Kevin Sinfield looks to add... 6-point lead. The

words of Stephen McNamara still ringing in their ears and I am sure

they will have delivered on that suggestion, score early. They just

needed to bend their backs. Plenty of muscle. But they need more diesel

in the tag. 12-6. England lead. It took a long time to get our first

points on the board in this game. The Fijian 's gave us those first

points. With Eloni Vunakece. But the big boys have got England back on

track, here. Westwood. He was looking to off-load. What is the

word from both sheds at half-time? England, the message from Steve was

play the game at our pace at not there is and be more direct and Sam

Burgess took that to heart. Fiji, continue to play hard. Except the

game plan of England and keep things simple. See who has got the best

are looking at each other and asking the questions. England are providing

the right answers. That is a great score from England. We put this down

from Rangi Chase. He just has to run. That double pump play. It is

like a switch has been thrown at half-time. Show them what you do!

And England are saying, this is what we do. And as Brian Noble said,

still Fiji have to put their hands on the ball in the second half. That

is a nightmare start, literally, for Fiji. That great kick, have

warehouse. And the execution of England has picked up immensely,

hasn't it? They are stabbing the three lions across this match. What

kind of response will be see from Fiji? Eight being -6. The English

side lead. -- 18-6. It has been brilliant for England. Passing has

been more crisp, on the money. And they have come away with two tries.

What a start to what was it tight game. Two tries in five minutes is

brilliant for England. Three defenders occupying his thoughts

is concern at across the whole of support about head injuries, isn't

injury a short time ago. Damian Johnson? I had a quick word with the

England team Doctor and he says he was slightly dazed by the impact on

that tackle and he asked them questions to see if he was fit to

continue. That is a big issue, head injuries in other sports. He was

told he was fit to play. Fiji not finding touch without penalty.

Giving England a really good chance to attack again. Rangi Chase! Takes

it on the outside! Just a foot in touch. That was very nearly as good

a winger's try as you will ever see. The cameras will not lie. I think

that was a great all. Chase without reply. Let's have a look. Keep

going! He certainly did. Well, the referee, as it can do, might be

have these great pictures. There is another man who has scored lots of

great tries, Jason Robinson. As a winger, Ryan Hall has got

everything. He has the balance, the poise, the athleticism. He is almost

unstoppable. Kevin Sinfield is looking to add the two. He has

kicked that horrifically well. -- really well. Four out of four for

Sinfield. England are underway. Chase gets around three Fijian

defenders. He releases Ryan Hall. Fiji, what response have they got?

Ten minutes of the second half played, and a match that they were

very much in there now drifting away from them.

What a wonderful England try. England ripped them to shreds down

the middle. Fabulous. Fabulous play. They are running away with the game,

and it looked to have been causing them problems. It is the inside ball

from Kevin Sinfield again, this time to Chris Hill. Rob Burrow is not

going to miss from here. How many times have we seen him do that in

the Leeds. -- in the league. Fiji are not defending as well in this

half. But that is a super score for Rob Burrow. Kevin Sinfield, and

impeccable kicking performance so far. He sends it over for a fifth

time. England 30, Fiji six. Who saw that coming?

Fiji have only had the ball for four plays in this half. I think we can

hear from Jon Wilkin. I have really noticed the difference in the

England team. They are varying the game well. They are taking advantage

of all the options they have got around them. It has been a really

well constructive half of rugby from England.

Pushing and shoving, unnecessarily so. The referee gives a penalty, and

I think that is a little harsh on Fiji. I think it is. The captain.

You need to control it. Let me finish. That was a blatant push. I

need you to cut it out, especially the number 13. Clean up your act.

Clean up your act. I still think that was harsh on Fiji, that

penalty, but England are not going to complain.

Here he is again, Rob Burrow, dragged over the line by the

defender. The question is, has he put it down? Not quite. They will go

back ten metres. It is the execution again. That is a great line from

barges. -- Burgess. They will go again. It is a try for Ryan Hall. It

is a simpler finish than his first, but none the less pleasing. His try

tally in an England shirt is phenomenal. Five tries for the

tournament. England are loving every minute of it. It is slick play

between Chase and Kevin Sinfield. The move is completed with Sam

Tomkins. The winger is in no man's land. Sam Tomkins can drive a truck

through that space. It is good skill, squaring up at the line. This

was supposed to be a tough day at the office, and it was in the first

half. But England are performing superbly well in the second half.

They are finding their form and their poise. They are filling

themselves with a heap of confidence with the quarterfinals ahead. Kevin

Sinfield's tick is not going to Carlin of this time. -- kick is not

going to curl enough this time. Ryan Hall will not have an easier finish.

This game changed with the kick off at the start of the second half.

I have got Lee Mossop with me. What has changed for England in the

second half? Not a lot, to be honest. I think we played really

well in the first half. Credit to Fiji, they were playing

outstandingly. That was not a bad finish to the

said six. -- the set of six. Well played, Ryan Hall.

Ryan Millard makes the break. Tom Briscoe was a cross to make the

tackle. Can Fiji make anything of this?

It has gone backwards. It was a Fijian hand that got there first.

This game has been thrown wide open in the second half.

breather. Neither team have dropped their physicality in the second

half. When they have an opportunity to belt each other, they certainly

played? ! All the time! He has been inhibited. It is only in the last

couple of games that we have seen him at an international level

comfortable enough to try that kind of thing. Against Australia and New

Zealand, I remember their first game was Australia and you just don't get

a chance. He is showing that he can fit into the structure. He has a

freedom to play as well. Fiji had a chance. Robbie Hunter-Paul? Just to

add to that, I think he is playing on the back of the forwards. That is

a massive platform. That is allowing that little bit of luxury and space.

It allows Rangi Chase and Kevin Sinfield. They are starting to enjoy

it. They have the time and space with the ball in hand. Korbin Sims.

Over 25,000 in here today. Fiji on the ropes for all of the

second-half. Very near to having succumbed to a knockout blow but

they have somehow managed to climb the Webb act into this game. They

will need five tries and five goals to win this from here. And not

concede again. -- climb their way back.
