Angleterre? France? | 0:00:47 | 0:00:52
Welcome to highlights of
the 2017 Rugby League World Cup. | 0:01:20 | 0:01:23
Over the next hour,
we will bring you all the action | 0:01:23 | 0:01:28
from today's games, as Groups A
and C reach their conclusion | 0:01:28 | 0:01:30
in the company of Jon Wilkin,
Kevin Sinfield and Iestyn Harris. | 0:01:30 | 0:01:35
We'll have highlights of PNG v USA
and Wales v Ireland coming up. | 0:01:35 | 0:01:41
But first, England needed a win
against France in Perth | 0:01:41 | 0:01:44
to claim their place
in the quarterfinals. | 0:01:44 | 0:01:46
Your commentators are Brian Noble
and Ian Millward with Dave Woods. | 0:01:46 | 0:01:50
It is a very European feeling with a
very typical Australian backdrop. | 0:01:57 | 0:02:04
England against France, the final in
game group A in this World Cup. This | 0:02:04 | 0:02:08
is the way the French are lining up,
they have had a few problems, their | 0:02:08 | 0:02:17
first choice hooker sent home for
disciplinary reasons. Boudezba comes | 0:02:17 | 0:02:24
in. 12 or the 17 play in Super
League, and there you see the | 0:02:24 | 0:02:27
England side, Mike McMeeken given a
first start in the season, and Scott | 0:02:27 | 0:02:35
Taylor will come off the bench for
his first appearance as well. Roby | 0:02:35 | 0:02:46
weights, Graham to his left hand
side, Hill brings it back down the | 0:02:46 | 0:02:50
middle. Roby rested in the last
game, but a chance to shine here, | 0:02:50 | 0:02:59
Gale goes left, and this is the
opening try, Gareth Widdop with a | 0:02:59 | 0:03:05
matter of two minutes played,
scores, England settle into the task | 0:03:05 | 0:03:11
right from the start. Big tick in
the box, Luke Gale gets around the | 0:03:11 | 0:03:21
back to outnumber people on the
fringes, Gareth Widdop just put his | 0:03:21 | 0:03:25
foot down, and he's not going to get
stopped. That is it, at the back of | 0:03:25 | 0:03:32
my mind probably only one player has
a chance of making the game, Kevin | 0:03:32 | 0:03:35
Brennan Cantlay square of the line.
It was great to see Gale running, he | 0:03:35 | 0:03:42
has been structured and mechanical
in his business, but we talk about | 0:03:42 | 0:03:45
Gareth Widdop, when he comes into
the game, but also Currie, everyone | 0:03:45 | 0:03:50
plays a part in the try, Currie has
tight lines to Brown, drags the | 0:03:50 | 0:03:56
defender in, you know. I think the
inclusion of Brown takes the | 0:03:56 | 0:04:00
pressure off. Has dropped it, it is
going to be a scrum down deal | 0:04:00 | 0:04:07
England, because the attacking team
gets the scrum. Very nearly a try, | 0:04:07 | 0:04:14
but they will take that. Nearly a
tackle too! A penalty try, tackling | 0:04:14 | 0:04:26
Luke Gale! Five and a bit minutes
played, England with one score | 0:04:26 | 0:04:30
already chalked up, and another
great opportunity, Percival being | 0:04:30 | 0:04:40
grappled by one of the few players
who has not played in Super League | 0:04:40 | 0:04:44
in his career. Roby takes it in,
here they go, easy out, Ratchford is | 0:04:44 | 0:04:52
over on the left-hand corner, but he
might have spilled it at the very | 0:04:52 | 0:04:56
last. That is the query is troubling
the referee's mind. OK, back on the | 0:04:56 | 0:05:05
front angle, please, pause and when
he comes to ground. Pause it there, | 0:05:05 | 0:05:09
he has maintained possession. This
is a wonderful start for England, | 0:05:09 | 0:05:18
six minutes played, two tries on the
board, exactly what England fans | 0:05:18 | 0:05:23
were hoping for and expecting. They
will be thinking this is easy! It | 0:05:23 | 0:05:28
will put another ten years on his
career! Good hands from the | 0:05:28 | 0:05:35
full-back, Widdop has God Bateman
freed temporarily. -- has got. More | 0:05:35 | 0:05:50
good hands, from O'Loughlin this
time, and here comes McGillvary, | 0:05:50 | 0:05:55
trying to crash through, held up.
One play to go, Percival is going to | 0:05:55 | 0:06:02
have a go himself, Gale spins it
away, and Graham is going to get | 0:06:02 | 0:06:06
over the line and score England's
third, it is a rout already, eight | 0:06:06 | 0:06:11
minutes played, and England have
three tries. Don't worry about the | 0:06:11 | 0:06:16
try, how smooth and fluid to get to
this part of the field, moving | 0:06:16 | 0:06:20
across the line, everyone knowing
their role, they were scattered, | 0:06:20 | 0:06:23
France could not get up the line,
holes everywhere. The big man gets | 0:06:23 | 0:06:28
the try. Devon Brown. Now Gale.
Ratchford, not just turning on the | 0:06:28 | 0:06:37
outside, waiting for the ball to
come your way, doing a bit of work | 0:06:37 | 0:06:40
in the middle as well. That is
Currie, four tackles gun, England | 0:06:40 | 0:06:47
with a flurry of early tries,
looking to put themselves in good | 0:06:47 | 0:06:51
position again, Widdop is well met
there. They are getting into shape | 0:06:51 | 0:07:02
and people are filling the field.
Now they have got space, Bateman | 0:07:02 | 0:07:07
tries a little kick, it bounces
fortuitously, the referee says back | 0:07:07 | 0:07:14
to one. Played out by the French.
That was lucky. In by Bateman. Here | 0:07:14 | 0:07:25
comes Roby, Frenchman left on the
floor, O'Loughlin spills and back, | 0:07:25 | 0:07:29
Gale again, now Brown, Widdop, look
at this, and Mark Percival will | 0:07:29 | 0:07:34
score his try. Chance given, chance
taken. And England have their fourth | 0:07:34 | 0:07:47
score of this early evening in
Perth. The exciting thing about it | 0:07:47 | 0:07:51
is the way England players got off
the ball, got into their roles, | 0:07:51 | 0:07:57
preserved the space, they just took
defenders away, created numbers on | 0:07:57 | 0:08:01
the outside, and I keep saying,
Widdop, he looks so comfortable, so | 0:08:01 | 0:08:07
good in regards to his jaw and bars.
Here comes Walmsley, carrying them | 0:08:07 | 0:08:11
on his back! He gets up and plays,
it is back with Brown. Now Widdop, | 0:08:11 | 0:08:22
Percival, looking to step into a
gap, three defenders there. The long | 0:08:22 | 0:08:31
backed McMeeken given the task of
backing up and delivering the past, | 0:08:31 | 0:08:34
Brown sees the gap, Kevin Brown
almost through. The width from dummy | 0:08:34 | 0:08:41
half, they just spread them out. A
penalty for too much messing around | 0:08:41 | 0:08:45
on the ground. It is another set.
Six more tackles to come. Lead in | 0:08:45 | 0:08:56
the first instance by Walmsley, Roby
lost the ball, was there a French | 0:08:56 | 0:09:01
hand on that? The referee has
decided it was offside. The defender | 0:09:01 | 0:09:08
came from an offside position, so
another penalty for England. | 0:09:08 | 0:09:14
So Roby again will tap, Walmsley
will slam it in to set up position | 0:09:20 | 0:09:26
here, plenty left, plenty right, he
goes left to Gale. Bateman stepping | 0:09:26 | 0:09:32
away, and Bateman is reaching, and
he has got this. And the referee, I | 0:09:32 | 0:09:37
think he is going to agree, yes,
eventually, he decides to give the | 0:09:37 | 0:09:41
try. Lucas is serious, Bateman has
England's fifth try of the night. On | 0:09:41 | 0:09:47
the edge, Gale sees him on the
outside, he backs himself, he needs | 0:09:47 | 0:09:53
to score when he backs himself like
that. Because it is a walk-in for | 0:09:53 | 0:09:59
Ratchford! He likes playing against
the French, Bateman, made his debut | 0:09:59 | 0:10:03
against the French then, scored two
tries on his debut. Five gone, this | 0:10:03 | 0:10:10
is the last, Garcia gets himself
there, Theo Fages boots it away, | 0:10:10 | 0:10:14
McGilvray has dropped it! Well,
there will be a note in Wayne | 0:10:14 | 0:10:21
Bennett's little black book, they
have got to get rid of the mistakes. | 0:10:21 | 0:10:25
Albeit it does not matter in this
situation, in another game it might, | 0:10:25 | 0:10:30
and that is going to count against
you. So France have a chance to try | 0:10:30 | 0:10:35
to get themselves on the board,
Benjamin Jullien runs really hard, | 0:10:35 | 0:10:40
we see it week in, week out at
Warrington. He gets up and plays it, | 0:10:40 | 0:10:48
Navarette will drive it in. He is
getting a penalty, he looks at the | 0:10:48 | 0:10:55
referee, what about that? Phil
Bentham has agreed, they will get | 0:10:55 | 0:11:01
another set, of course they are
going to take the tab. It is back | 0:11:01 | 0:11:05
with Fages, Djalout. Still five to
go. Garcia, Fages again, inside | 0:11:05 | 0:11:22
comes Albert. England's defence has
been pretty watertight in this game | 0:11:22 | 0:11:27
and in this tournament, and they are
marshalling themselves well again | 0:11:27 | 0:11:29
for the moment. Anthony Marion tries
to drive it in. Garcia. The run was | 0:11:29 | 0:11:38
developed, Garcia with the dummy,
there is a sucker punch, and | 0:11:38 | 0:11:44
England's defence, from being
red-hot, is suddenly red-faced - | 0:11:44 | 0:11:47
that was a soft try to concede,
write and the sticks. The biggest | 0:11:47 | 0:11:53
thing is that the threat is the
person with the ball, the thread is | 0:11:53 | 0:11:58
in front of you, and they went away
from the threat. Gareth Widdop with | 0:11:58 | 0:12:04
a kick downfield to get the second
half under way, caught by Fages, | 0:12:04 | 0:12:11
England is looking to ramp it up
again. They had an electrifying | 0:12:11 | 0:12:15
start to the first half, and now a
powerful start to the second half, | 0:12:15 | 0:12:20
defending on the French line. What
are we expecting here? I will tell | 0:12:20 | 0:12:27
you what he wants, no tries, no
mistakes, that was his big emphasis | 0:12:27 | 0:12:32
before the game, that will not
change. He will be absolutely | 0:12:32 | 0:12:36
pouring, the way they started. That
is a knock-on straightaway in | 0:12:36 | 0:12:41
England's favour, Bousquet having
dropped it, England get early | 0:12:41 | 0:12:46
position here. And early indication
of the response of the England team | 0:12:46 | 0:12:50
at half-time, that has caused a
little bit of disruption in their | 0:12:50 | 0:12:55
next few plays, ending up with
Bousquet dropping the ball. Here | 0:12:55 | 0:13:02
comes the first run from Williams,
and it goes out to Jermaine | 0:13:02 | 0:13:06
McGillvary, nine tries in nine
successive Test matches in an | 0:13:06 | 0:13:10
England shirt, that impressive run
continues, England's impressive form | 0:13:10 | 0:13:16
continues, they have hit the 30
points mark. Sit back and have a | 0:13:16 | 0:13:20
look at this pass from Widdop,
class, time. They go nice and | 0:13:20 | 0:13:26
square, under pressure he knows the
winger is coming into cream him, and | 0:13:26 | 0:13:30
he just takes his time, transfers
the ball from the inside across his | 0:13:30 | 0:13:35
body, with a minimum of fuss. It is
interesting, the smaller players are | 0:13:35 | 0:13:41
stepping back on the inside shoulder
of the big England defenders, and we | 0:13:41 | 0:13:46
have talked about Walmsley and
Taylor, and they are actually | 0:13:46 | 0:13:48
beating them. That is what they are
doing to regain the momentum. | 0:13:48 | 0:13:57
Walmsley has to check his run, but
he still has got a presence. Roby, | 0:13:57 | 0:14:06
Brown again, McMeeken to his right
hand side, it looked like he had | 0:14:06 | 0:14:11
lost it, great pass away, first one
to McGillvary, a chance to get some | 0:14:11 | 0:14:15
running here. He put the foot down
and gets the past outcome of the | 0:14:15 | 0:14:21
off-load is forward. Well, it was
thrilling for a moment, but | 0:14:21 | 0:14:24
ultimately disappointing, it looks
like McMeeken has got a bloodied | 0:14:24 | 0:14:31
nose for his pains. Or is it coming
from his mouth? Claret right from | 0:14:31 | 0:14:36
his snozz! Walmsley, head-on under
those circumstances by Maxime | 0:14:36 | 0:14:45
Harold. This is Williams. Can't keep
it alive, England is less than 20 | 0:14:45 | 0:14:54
away. Roby has seen a gap, and off
he goes, James Roby almost there! | 0:14:54 | 0:15:06
Kheirallah just about recovering
French boys with the tackle right on | 0:15:06 | 0:15:09
the line. Taylor has gone from dummy
half, but he is going to be held up. | 0:15:09 | 0:15:17
Roby again, now he spins it out,
there is Kevin Brown with a kick to | 0:15:17 | 0:15:23
the corner, caught on the full by
Yaha, a tap back on the 20 again. | 0:15:23 | 0:15:29
Sam is in good spirits this week, it
looks like he is getting better and | 0:15:29 | 0:15:33
better, a thumbs up, he is on the
big-screen here, the England fans | 0:15:33 | 0:15:38
have just him as well. They put
their bodies in front, don't they, | 0:15:38 | 0:15:45
the French? Here they go again.
Brushes away from Baitieri. Roby, | 0:15:45 | 0:15:55
Brown, McMeeken. Down that right
channel. The width of Roby's pass, | 0:15:55 | 0:16:05
every time, he gets to the outside
defenders earlier. Garcia picks it | 0:16:05 | 0:16:11
up, and off goes Lucas Albert, they
are not going to stop him! Well, the | 0:16:11 | 0:16:16
referee has blown his whistle for a
forward pass, and Albert goes over, | 0:16:16 | 0:16:22
gets the celebration, but his heart
will sink into his boots, when he | 0:16:22 | 0:16:26
looks 60 or 70 yards back downfield,
he will see an unmoved Phil Bentham | 0:16:26 | 0:16:31
say it was a forward pass. Williams,
the new dummy half of choice, | 0:16:31 | 0:16:39
O'Loughlin. Still carried by the
captain. Williams again. Gale, | 0:16:39 | 0:16:51
Currie. 20 out, three tackles to go,
decent position for England to try | 0:16:51 | 0:17:02
to probe again here, Graeme Potts
and back, McGillvary is certainly | 0:17:02 | 0:17:12
running free enough to score in the
corner, but the referee once a | 0:17:12 | 0:17:15
second look at that tumbling effort.
He will feel that McGillvary | 0:17:15 | 0:17:19
probably got there, but the video
referee is required. Let's hear from | 0:17:19 | 0:17:25
him. OK, based on the angles
available, the ball comes in contact | 0:17:25 | 0:17:36
with the ground, but insufficient
proof of loss of possession. The | 0:17:36 | 0:17:50
referee's call on the field is a big
one, it stands, insufficient | 0:17:50 | 0:17:54
evidence to suggest that McGillvary
lost possession, so he has his | 0:17:54 | 0:17:58
second of the night and a second of
this second half. Once again, | 0:17:58 | 0:18:05
execution really good, it is the
side they have favoured in the | 0:18:05 | 0:18:08
tournament, because McGillvary does
know about it. Nice catch, pass, | 0:18:08 | 0:18:12
drawing the defender, putting him
away. I will tell you how much they | 0:18:12 | 0:18:16
treasure him, they have brought him
off. Gale comes left, Widdop | 0:18:16 | 0:18:24
involved again. Ratchford, here is
Currie. So Gale, 40 metres out from | 0:18:24 | 0:18:40
his own line, into the final 19
seconds, this is Brown, McMeeken. | 0:18:40 | 0:18:45
Greg Hands by O'Loughlin, Percival
could not get it in. -- quick hands. | 0:18:45 | 0:18:53
He might have been going under Super
League rules with the advantage | 0:18:53 | 0:18:56
played there. HOOTER BLOWS
that is it, anyway. England win | 0:18:56 | 0:19:03
36-6. Job done in terms of a win
under their belts, first 40 minutes | 0:19:03 | 0:19:13
terrific, but they conceded a try at
the end of the first. Although they | 0:19:13 | 0:19:18
have not conceded any in the second
half, less than satisfactory, a lot | 0:19:18 | 0:19:23
in there for Wayne Bennett to be
scratching his head. I do not think | 0:19:23 | 0:19:28
we are particularly happy with the
display, a lack of focus, maybe | 0:19:28 | 0:19:35
getting a little bit overconfident
at times. But the start of the game, | 0:19:35 | 0:19:40
some of the effort we put in at the
beginning, we have to highlight the | 0:19:40 | 0:19:43
fact of how clinical we were, some
of our attacking skill was | 0:19:43 | 0:19:48
outstanding. But we have got to be
able to match that for 80 minutes. | 0:19:48 | 0:19:52
The first of what is what we
expected, stuck to the game plan, | 0:19:52 | 0:19:56
but the second half, we went a bit
silly, we could have played a | 0:19:56 | 0:20:00
smarter. There was a lot of
rotation, once we took James Roby | 0:20:00 | 0:20:05
off, we had someone who had never
played centre in George, so a lot of | 0:20:05 | 0:20:09
disruption, probably an excuse, we
need to tidy it up, but first off | 0:20:09 | 0:20:13
there were some really positive
signs, and I am all happy | 0:20:13 | 0:20:18
defensively. They got one try, and
it was a bad one, but overall happy | 0:20:18 | 0:20:21
with the defence. Certainly
enjoyable to pull on the jersey, | 0:20:21 | 0:20:25
getting to run around the fields
there. You came off with what looked | 0:20:25 | 0:20:30
like an injury, what is the
situation? More precautionary than | 0:20:30 | 0:20:35
anything, I finished the try before
I came off, I took a knock, I think | 0:20:35 | 0:20:39
Wayne decided to take me off for the
last 15 minutes, but I am fine. The | 0:20:39 | 0:20:44
tournament is about consistency, we
get better with each game, hopefully | 0:20:44 | 0:20:48
we will get to the final and put it
all together. We knew it was a | 0:20:48 | 0:20:52
chance to qualify, and we started
the game poor, and against a quality | 0:20:52 | 0:20:58
side like England, you cannot do
this. We had an idea of where we | 0:20:58 | 0:21:03
were going, today has thrown up a
couple of different options, | 0:21:03 | 0:21:08
different connotations, it is about
having a 24-man squad, we need the | 0:21:08 | 0:21:12
best team for the knockout stages.
Wayne is a hard task master, he will | 0:21:12 | 0:21:17
get the best out of us during the
week, he knows the best way to | 0:21:17 | 0:21:20
motivate the players, but I am sure
they will be well motivated after | 0:21:20 | 0:21:25
tonight's performance. We have got
three or four weeks left in the | 0:21:25 | 0:21:28
tank, we have got to make our own
decisions, how good we want to be as | 0:21:28 | 0:21:32
a team, work hard. Work daily, good
choices. We have been watching you | 0:21:32 | 0:21:39
in training this week, you seem to
be getting better, running free, | 0:21:39 | 0:21:44
confident of a quarterfinal place? I
will be there. | 0:21:44 | 0:21:49
Here is confirmation of the group A
table, England finishing as | 0:21:51 | 0:21:56
runners-up, Lebanon also going
through to the quarterfinals. Do you | 0:21:56 | 0:21:59
like the disappointment in the
England camp at their second-half | 0:21:59 | 0:22:03
performance? I think I do. They
showed enough signs in the first | 0:22:03 | 0:22:08
half, certainly the way they played
expanse of me, I liked Brown, the | 0:22:08 | 0:22:14
balance in the team, and they showed
enough for me first half that they | 0:22:14 | 0:22:17
will be a thread in the
quarterfinals and semifinals, | 0:22:17 | 0:22:21
hopefully the final. The pessimistic
side of it was the second half they | 0:22:21 | 0:22:24
could not continue the 80 minute
game plan, which England need to do | 0:22:24 | 0:22:28
going into the quarterfinal. It was
a deflated second-half performance, | 0:22:28 | 0:22:32
wasn't it? But certainly the signs
in the first of were terrific. Let's | 0:22:32 | 0:22:40
focus on the positives, Jermaine
McGillvary, Kevin, you know, during | 0:22:40 | 0:22:44
the game we were saying he would be
in any team of the tournament. | 0:22:44 | 0:22:50
Without a doubt, the former winner
of the competition, he has been | 0:22:52 | 0:22:55
awesome, our best player as well,
and if you look around the other | 0:22:55 | 0:22:59
nations at the minute, possibly the
player from Tonga would push him | 0:22:59 | 0:23:03
close, but I think it showed today
how valuable he is to England, the | 0:23:03 | 0:23:08
fact that we substituted him, and
that doesn't happen very often at | 0:23:08 | 0:23:12
all with wingers. To protect him. To
wrap him in cotton wool. His yardage | 0:23:12 | 0:23:17
out of backfield has been
outstanding, he is scoring tries, a | 0:23:17 | 0:23:24
real threat. Yeah, strong guy, I can
tell you from first-hand experience, | 0:23:24 | 0:23:28
trying to stop him coming out of his
heart is tough, never mind trying to | 0:23:28 | 0:23:31
stop putting ball down in the
corner, which we saw here, his | 0:23:31 | 0:23:36
power, but a great finisher too. One
of the best wingers in the world, | 0:23:36 | 0:23:42
really just enhancing is value over
the last few weeks. But that power, | 0:23:42 | 0:23:47
the meters that he makes helps other
players in the team, it can help | 0:23:47 | 0:23:51
them of a breed of more than
anything! It does, and with England, | 0:23:51 | 0:23:55
we are a big pack, we are, and you
need your backfield to bring the | 0:23:55 | 0:23:59
ball back, so they do not have to go
all the way back behind the ball to | 0:23:59 | 0:24:03
get back in shape. McGillvary is 20
or 30 metres consistently, fantastic | 0:24:03 | 0:24:13
for the back four. Gareth Widdop as
full-back was a success, and over | 0:24:13 | 0:24:16
the next week there will be debate
amongst rugby league fans and media | 0:24:16 | 0:24:21
about where he should play next
week. Without a doubt, the | 0:24:21 | 0:24:27
combination there, with the great
line from Ben Currie, resulted in | 0:24:27 | 0:24:30
point early on in this game, and one
thing we have noticed is that that | 0:24:30 | 0:24:34
combination of players, getting your
right players in the right positions | 0:24:34 | 0:24:37
at the right time is crucial. I
think Gareth showed his instinct as | 0:24:37 | 0:24:41
a full-back are still there plans,
he appeared in the right spaces, in | 0:24:41 | 0:24:48
the mike and he is quite capable of
taking high balls, and he will be | 0:24:48 | 0:24:51
scrutinised if he plays at that
level again. I got a feeling from | 0:24:51 | 0:24:57
the post match interview that he
might not play in that position, but | 0:24:57 | 0:25:01
impressed with how he played, and
his combination with the others was | 0:25:01 | 0:25:08
one of the standout features. He did
exactly today what he was saying | 0:25:08 | 0:25:14
last week against Lebanon you wanted
your fallback to do. In the right | 0:25:14 | 0:25:17
place at the right time, you
mentioned it, Gale and Hill, their | 0:25:17 | 0:25:25
combination today, wherever we was
attacking, he appeared, and he | 0:25:25 | 0:25:28
seemed to know the script and
exactly what was going on. He can | 0:25:28 | 0:25:34
run, pass, kick, so many different
options, he linked up well with the | 0:25:34 | 0:25:37
back row is, and that is where we
wanted our full-back last week, | 0:25:37 | 0:25:43
creating some doubt in the
opposition defence. The big | 0:25:43 | 0:25:48
difference for me is the big men of
England playing together, | 0:25:48 | 0:25:51
O'Loughlin, Graham, through the
field with James Roby, we have got | 0:25:51 | 0:25:56
the ability to stop defence is dead
in the middle of the field. I don't | 0:25:56 | 0:25:59
see that in a lot of other sites,
and it is a real point of difference | 0:25:59 | 0:26:04
for us. We might be talking about
Widdop and McGillvary, but the guys | 0:26:04 | 0:26:08
in the middle are crucial. I thought
the first 25 minutes, the execution | 0:26:08 | 0:26:14
was sublime, they were absolute
class, every pass on the money, we | 0:26:14 | 0:26:18
are talking about Widdop, the skill,
the Gale, Brown, O'Loughlin, | 0:26:18 | 0:26:25
outstanding, and if we can expand
that over 80 minutes, we will cause | 0:26:25 | 0:26:29
anyone problems. | 0:26:29 | 0:26:31
Earlier today in Port Moresby,
co-hosts Papua New Guinea needed | 0:26:31 | 0:26:34
a win against the USA
to win their group and progress | 0:26:34 | 0:26:36
to the quarterfinals. | 0:26:36 | 0:26:38
Your commentators for this
one are Chris Warren | 0:26:38 | 0:26:39
and Matthew Elliott. | 0:26:39 | 0:26:44
Well, the World Cup adventure
continues, looking for a place in | 0:26:44 | 0:26:51
the quarterfinals, the colour,
passion of the locals that they are | 0:26:51 | 0:26:54
brought to this festival of rugby
league has been one of the feel-good | 0:26:54 | 0:26:58
stories of this World Cup. The Papua
New Guinea side, have a look at | 0:26:58 | 0:27:03
that, James Segeyaro starting his
first match at the World Cup, and a | 0:27:03 | 0:27:06
big occasion for the son of Adrian
and Lam, making his debut. A lot of | 0:27:06 | 0:27:14
pressure on these guys, but not a
whole lot to lose, their hooker is | 0:27:14 | 0:27:22
from the Northern Beaches, Marando.
And this guy from the London Broncos | 0:27:22 | 0:27:28
has carried the side in recent
years. This is Aiton. Still no | 0:27:28 | 0:27:36
score. PNG come into this match
after a very big win against Wales, | 0:27:36 | 0:27:42
and they got home against Ireland.
Expected to win this, here is 76 | 0:27:42 | 0:27:53
into space, and in they go, over
they go, in two score, Lam! It is 76 | 0:27:53 | 0:28:06
who picks up the inside ball here,
dummies, takes off, and Lam, do you | 0:28:06 | 0:28:16
think he is happy with that?! | 0:28:16 | 0:28:21
Segeyaro finds Lam. Now the pass.
Olam goes in to score after 11 | 0:28:31 | 0:28:44
minutes of play! Well, they are
dangerous with the ball in hand, | 0:28:44 | 0:28:47
this outfit, and he goes in to make
it 10- mill with a kick to go. -- | 0:28:47 | 0:28:54
10-0. It's gone pretty high. They
made a meal of it! It's gone | 0:28:54 | 0:29:01
backwards. There is another break
and they are away again. They are in | 0:29:01 | 0:29:07
the space, they've got support on
the inside and his Segeyaro. He | 0:29:07 | 0:29:12
races away to score. Well, this is
turning into a cakewalk. 13 minutes | 0:29:12 | 0:29:22
old, is the match, and it is already
14-0. They are worrying signs here. | 0:29:22 | 0:29:32
The final match for the home team
and James Segeyaro is just proving | 0:29:32 | 0:29:36
so difficult to stop out there in
the middle. And at the moment it | 0:29:36 | 0:29:40
really is all one-way traffic. He's
straight through! Lucky Lam! You | 0:29:40 | 0:29:49
straight through! Going in for
number two! Yes, indeed! -- he's | 0:29:49 | 0:29:54
going straight through! What about
this footwork goes off that right | 0:29:54 | 0:30:05
foot and again absolutely elated to
get across that stripe. What a young | 0:30:05 | 0:30:09
talent he is. | 0:30:09 | 0:30:12
Segeyaro to Boas. It ricocheted.
It's been played out, so six more. | 0:30:21 | 0:30:36
Down the short side. Good tackle
over there. Wonderful tackle and it | 0:30:36 | 0:30:40
had to be made there by Burroughs.
But the damage is still coming. | 0:30:40 | 0:30:45
If Boas... Rob Griffin goes into
score. Easy as you like! Their most | 0:30:49 | 0:30:59
experienced player. The hook from
Segeyaro. The tackle. Over the top. | 0:30:59 | 0:31:15
His Boas. -- here is Boas. Danger
signs for the USA. Danger signs | 0:31:15 | 0:31:26
indeed! And over they go again! They
go in for number six! Every | 0:31:26 | 0:31:35
opportunity they get, they seem to
be coming up with points. Did well, | 0:31:35 | 0:31:40
keeping the ball alive. The USA
really having problems. And the USA, | 0:31:40 | 0:31:55
a very steep hill to climb. It will
be about damage control for them, as | 0:31:55 | 0:32:02
has been pointed out. On the
halfway. Chasing through... They are | 0:32:02 | 0:32:13
way! Away goes the captain! David
Mead is running 60, 70 metres! He | 0:32:13 | 0:32:26
scored three tries a few weeks ago
against Wales and he's done it | 0:32:26 | 0:32:30
again! They had some numbers out
there. Put the kick in, picked up | 0:32:30 | 0:32:36
clearly by Mead. And he was a way!
The skipper. Over they go. 19 gone, | 0:32:36 | 0:32:45
second half. | 0:32:45 | 0:32:49
This is the last, then. Mead is back
there and puts the foot down, get | 0:32:55 | 0:33:08
out of one. Brought down by Johnson. | 0:33:08 | 0:33:16
I think they've made plenty of
errors. Coming to the full-back and | 0:33:23 | 0:33:29
beyond. Still going, still going!
Eventually... He gets the ball away | 0:33:29 | 0:33:36
to Boas and Boas will go into score!
And a procession of fire continues! | 0:33:36 | 0:33:43
It's been given and they now lead
the USA 44-0! With one kick to go. | 0:33:43 | 0:33:54
Breaking free here... Came to the
full-back, held on valiantly but | 0:33:54 | 0:34:00
kept on going. Waiting for his
support runners. Eventually somebody | 0:34:00 | 0:34:05
was there. Boas. And the number
seven goes over the score. | 0:34:05 | 0:34:12
I like what I've seen from Page or
tournament. Very strong. -- all | 0:34:17 | 0:34:25
tournament. Looking for a hole
behind the markers there. Baptiste | 0:34:25 | 0:34:37
goes the other way. He pushes away!
And again! And again! McDonald goes | 0:34:37 | 0:34:48
into score. He's a big customer,
isn't he? A big customer with good | 0:34:48 | 0:34:56
speed and a good finish. Yes, a
really effective finish, but the | 0:34:56 | 0:35:04
service on the inside particularly,
the ball over the line, was super | 0:35:04 | 0:35:07
effective. Baptiste waiting. Long,
looping pass. McDonald with the | 0:35:07 | 0:35:18
ball! They're going again! Can he
get there? You bet he can! Well, | 0:35:18 | 0:35:30
they are not showing any pity here,
are they, for the Stars and Stripes? | 0:35:30 | 0:35:35
This now becoming a cricket score!
So, can they put a point on the | 0:35:35 | 0:35:45
board here, America? Still keeping
it alive. Dragged in. He's through! | 0:35:45 | 0:36:00
He's through! He can see the try
line and I think he's been held up! | 0:36:00 | 0:36:08
And if he has that same miraculous
tackle! -- that's a miraculous | 0:36:08 | 0:36:16
tackle! He was all but home! At 58-0
up, that shows how much importance | 0:36:16 | 0:36:23
there is further Mead to lead his
country and keep the scoreboard at | 0:36:23 | 0:36:29
zero. -- there is for David Mead to
lead his country. They want to keep | 0:36:29 | 0:36:39
this at Haydock egg. -- at a dark
animal -- duck egg. Once again! They | 0:36:39 | 0:36:58
go into score and Justin Olam goes
in for number three! Nothing going | 0:36:58 | 0:37:08
their way. Look at him go! Have a
look at Ryan Burrows there. In | 0:37:08 | 0:37:18
pursuit. He hits the deck. An
outstanding game today. Racks up | 0:37:18 | 0:37:26
number three. It's been an awesome
experience. The boys have been | 0:37:26 | 0:37:31
wrapping me up all week and given me
the confidence I needed. Officer got | 0:37:31 | 0:37:36
a few little meat pies as well,
which was pretty special! -- | 0:37:36 | 0:37:40
obviously got. Hopefully next time
we are more competitive and I | 0:37:40 | 0:37:45
wouldn't say we would be winning
next time but just more competitive | 0:37:45 | 0:37:49
and better again until we can start
winning. England in Melbourne next | 0:37:49 | 0:37:54
weekend will be pretty tough for us
so we will work on preparing well | 0:37:54 | 0:37:57
this week and hopefully get a result
down there. The harsh reality is | 0:37:57 | 0:38:02
that some of the guys are not quite
ready for this level. Week in, week | 0:38:02 | 0:38:08
out, certainly. But that's not to
say there has been a benefit in | 0:38:08 | 0:38:11
playing these men. I think we played
nearly every game and it's good to | 0:38:11 | 0:38:23
see everyone, whether they played
one or two games, they really stood | 0:38:23 | 0:38:29
up and ready to be selected for the
next game. Like I said, we celebrate | 0:38:29 | 0:38:32
the victory and look forward to the
game next week. | 0:38:32 | 0:38:39
If sport is all about atmosphere and
passion and spectacle, it is a | 0:38:39 | 0:38:44
crying shame that the quarterfinal
between Papa New Guinea and England | 0:38:44 | 0:38:50
isn't going to be there. Yes, it
would seem common sense for that | 0:38:50 | 0:38:58
quarterfinal to be in that stadium,
well supported, fanatical support, | 0:38:58 | 0:39:03
but it's not to be. It's a benefit
for England, I believe, playing in | 0:39:03 | 0:39:08
Melbourne, because I think we are a
different proposition to Papa New | 0:39:08 | 0:39:14
Guinea in Melbourne. Still a big
challenge, though. Can they roughly | 0:39:14 | 0:39:18
what they've done at home in those
three games? -- can they replicate | 0:39:18 | 0:39:25
what they've done? Can they do that
in Melbourne? I think what they've | 0:39:25 | 0:39:28
done is grow in confidence in the
group stages. With the quality | 0:39:28 | 0:39:32
they've got and how physical they
are going to be, with confidence, it | 0:39:32 | 0:39:37
isn't going to be a pushover.
England will have to play well. | 0:39:37 | 0:39:43
They've put a half performance
together and that would be good | 0:39:43 | 0:39:45
enough. They are going to be a tough
proposition in that quarterfinal. So | 0:39:45 | 0:39:53
what do England do against them? I
still bring up your quote when we | 0:39:53 | 0:39:56
were sitting here for the Australia
game, when you said, tackling them | 0:39:56 | 0:40:00
is like tackling a lamp post! Which
makes me think of you tackling lamp | 0:40:00 | 0:40:05
posts in Leeds! Yes! Thinking of
that game next week, there are going | 0:40:05 | 0:40:11
to be some sort bodies next -- | 0:40:11 | 0:40:23
some hurting bodies afterwards. For
me, England need to be | 0:40:26 | 0:40:30
ultra-aggressive and really
physical, and that's why it's so | 0:40:30 | 0:40:32
great we get Sam Burgess back. I
think him in the middle, Hill, just | 0:40:32 | 0:40:40
being physical. But controlled
comedy was saying? Because they | 0:40:40 | 0:40:44
thrive on chaos? -- but controlled,
you are saying? Yes. Having three | 0:40:44 | 0:40:53
hookers who like to run tell you
exactly what will happen. They are | 0:40:53 | 0:40:57
going to come up the field fast,
trying to create chaotic setups. | 0:40:57 | 0:41:02
England can nullify that with good
contact, line speed and controlling | 0:41:02 | 0:41:06
the rap, and if they get that right,
it will make everything easier. -- | 0:41:06 | 0:41:12
controlling the ruck. There are
going to be opportunities and it's | 0:41:12 | 0:41:24
how England scramble and are
prepared to work that will get them | 0:41:24 | 0:41:26
through. And if we look at the three
games PNG have played so far, the | 0:41:26 | 0:41:33
ones that have caused them the most
problems are Ireland, and they've | 0:41:33 | 0:41:37
got a big starting from row. Brad
Singleton among them. Those three | 0:41:37 | 0:41:43
will bring that physicality. | 0:41:43 | 0:41:55
That win for Papua New Guinea meant
they finished top of Group C, | 0:41:55 | 0:41:58
so when Wales met Ireland earlier
today in Perth, there | 0:41:58 | 0:42:00
was only pride at stake. | 0:42:00 | 0:42:02
Your commentators are Andrew Moore
with Scott Sattler. | 0:42:02 | 0:42:03
COMMENTATOR: Looking resplendent
there in their jerseys. Believing | 0:42:08 | 0:42:12
that they can in this World Cup
round against their northern | 0:42:12 | 0:42:17
hemisphere neighbours today. Yes,
really looking forward to the number | 0:42:17 | 0:42:24
two this afternoon. He's had plenty
of experience. And the number nine, | 0:42:24 | 0:42:32
he's been a real surprise package of
the tournament. And I've been really | 0:42:32 | 0:42:38
impressed with Kay. And Ralph, just
how excitable will he be? A really | 0:42:38 | 0:42:46
good kicking game, he will bring. | 0:42:46 | 0:42:48
About 37 metres away. Options both
sides. A strong run from Brad | 0:42:56 | 0:43:07
Singleton inside the Welsh 30.
Pewhairangi is backing up with his | 0:43:07 | 0:43:20
first try of the day for Ireland. It
took seven minutes. Finished off by | 0:43:20 | 0:43:27
Pewhairangi for Ireland and they get
the first points of the game. We | 0:43:27 | 0:43:31
spoke about how dangerous he's been
out of dummy half, the number nine, | 0:43:31 | 0:43:36
and good skill early in the game,
great to see him involved. They lead | 0:43:36 | 0:43:41
for- zero. -- they lead 4-0. | 0:43:41 | 0:43:48
Driven by great defence by Wales
there. He's struggled, too. He got | 0:43:53 | 0:43:58
absolutely poleaxed and mainly by
the replacement, Rhodri Lloyd. He is | 0:43:58 | 0:44:08
down right on the Welsh 30 metre
line. Just that right leg, he grabs | 0:44:08 | 0:44:15
it. You just see his hand go down
there. Immediately. That's hope he's | 0:44:15 | 0:44:24
OK. Setup to the left. Eight metres
out from the line. They do go over | 0:44:24 | 0:44:36
the side. Ralph. A wayward pass. But
Williams has it. And the off-load | 0:44:36 | 0:44:46
for Alf as well. Good run! The young
bloke! They've got numbers! The flag | 0:44:46 | 0:44:55
is up! Denied by about an inch. And
Ireland just hold on. Wales thought | 0:44:55 | 0:45:05
they were going to hit back with
their first try today. What a moment | 0:45:05 | 0:45:11
of brilliance! A fantastic call here
by the linesman. But an equally | 0:45:11 | 0:45:15
beautiful finish there. At least
they showed something, Andrew. A | 0:45:15 | 0:45:22
good run again as he carves aside. | 0:45:22 | 0:45:31
And he wins the penalty. I reckon
Wales will be happy to concede the | 0:45:36 | 0:45:42
penalty. No thought of a shot at
goal, though. That's the goal line, | 0:45:42 | 0:45:51
a metre away. Try! He got that down,
Oliver Roberts! Off the bench! He | 0:45:51 | 0:46:02
will be awarded with a 4-point are.
The lead goes to ten. -- 4-pointer. | 0:46:02 | 0:46:13
The amount of defence they've had to
do and Oliver Roberts comes off the | 0:46:13 | 0:46:18
bench and creates an opportunity.
It's exactly what you want from your | 0:46:18 | 0:46:20
bench players. Ireland go into a
10-0 lead against Wales. How much | 0:46:20 | 0:46:32
more can they do? The 20 metre
line... Good hands there. That's the | 0:46:32 | 0:46:38
ten metre line so Ireland not far
away. Philbin! Try! He got it down | 0:46:38 | 0:46:47
between the posts! He's come off the
bench, Joe Philbin, and he scores a | 0:46:47 | 0:46:55
try. Seconds -- second try in three
minutes for Ireland. This basically | 0:46:55 | 0:47:00
comes down to who wants it more.
It's just one determined runner | 0:47:00 | 0:47:04
running into the face of the
defence, and his aggressive running | 0:47:04 | 0:47:08
has got a great result for his side.
16-0 Ireland over Wales. | 0:47:08 | 0:47:17
Good off-load there. Good backing
up. Too quick for the proper! Ways | 0:47:20 | 0:47:30
the back-up? There it is! The
skipper! Finn! 22 metres out. | 0:47:30 | 0:47:38
Roberts will play it. Blindside
right. The goal in seven metres away | 0:47:38 | 0:47:47
for Ireland, looking for their
fourth before half-time. Finn! He's | 0:47:47 | 0:47:52
over to get it down to school
therefore for Ireland! He's up, he's | 0:47:52 | 0:47:57
hugging Oliver Roberts, and he's
scored the try! We're going to the | 0:47:57 | 0:48:02
video referee. Does he maintain
position? Yes, he does. It looks on | 0:48:02 | 0:48:14
that replay as though it's OK. The
ball's in his hand. Yes. He's | 0:48:14 | 0:48:22
maintained position. OK. I've got
the decision. Ireland now 20 20 over | 0:48:22 | 0:48:29
Wales. -- now 22-0 over Wales. It
goes to Ben Evans. This is where | 0:48:29 | 0:48:41
they should go to the right of that
openside and use the numbers. 13 | 0:48:41 | 0:48:46
just come back on. | 0:48:46 | 0:48:49
Good ball away to Evans. 20 metres
out. Wales looking for first points. | 0:48:53 | 0:49:06
He held it well. 11 out for the goal
line. Last tackle. Ralph. Lovely | 0:49:06 | 0:49:11
cutout pass to Morris! Beautiful
stuff, young man! Josh Ralph! Wales | 0:49:11 | 0:49:21
open their account! Nearly three
quarters of the way through the | 0:49:21 | 0:49:23
game! First point for Wales. What a
point by Ralph! We spoke earlier on | 0:49:23 | 0:49:28
in the game and said if he takes the
line on and delivers the past | 0:49:28 | 0:49:32
directly he will create
opportunities and he's done exactly | 0:49:32 | 0:49:34
that. Wales trailing 22-4. 12 metres
out, Ireland. | 0:49:34 | 0:49:44
Philbin will recover it. Get to it
within a few metres. He's been great | 0:49:49 | 0:50:01
for them, hasn't he? Lunge! Try for
Ireland! Oliver Roberts! At full | 0:50:01 | 0:50:10
stretch! Oliver Roberts reckons he
has two. They will check it out. | 0:50:10 | 0:50:20
Make sure it's grounded first on the
line, please. Go slowly, please. | 0:50:20 | 0:50:31
Could we see that from behind on
that high shot, if possible, please? | 0:50:31 | 0:50:36
Nice and slow, please. That's
definitely short there. And then his | 0:50:36 | 0:50:44
hands, off the ball, so I've got a
decision. I'm going to the board. | 0:50:44 | 0:50:51
Oliver Roberts was absolutely
convinced it shook -- scored his | 0:50:51 | 0:50:54
second try of the day. -- convinced
he had scored. Another strong run by | 0:50:54 | 0:51:03
the number ten for Ireland. 20
metres out from the goal line. It | 0:51:03 | 0:51:09
off contest, this. That's a bad
penalty. Fourth tackle, again. | 0:51:09 | 0:51:16
Another 20 metres out. Comes back to
Singleton. You can see the ten metre | 0:51:16 | 0:51:24
line. 7-3, the penalty count to
Ireland. Desperate last-ditch | 0:51:24 | 0:51:35
defence. Two metres out. Finn...
Good feet for a front row are! -- | 0:51:35 | 0:51:46
good feet for a front rower.
Blindside set to the left. Good | 0:51:46 | 0:51:55
off-load. He had McCarthy steaming
through. Maybe this time... Oliver | 0:51:55 | 0:52:01
Roberts! Does he get number two this
time? He does! Two tries to Oliver | 0:52:01 | 0:52:06
Roberts! He doesn't see any options
so he just gets the ball up the arm, | 0:52:06 | 0:52:14
creates the opportunity himself,
scores the second. It's now 26-6, | 0:52:14 | 0:52:22
Ireland leading. Can they break it
here? Only seven metres out. | 0:52:22 | 0:52:31
Philbin! Last-ditch defence by
Morrison. | 0:52:31 | 0:52:39
At the back and firing numbers. He
gets the ball away! Kay is going to | 0:52:44 | 0:52:53
score his first try for Ireland
right in the corner! The Irish get | 0:52:53 | 0:52:57
their six. Beautiful work. Look at
the work that Finn does but | 0:52:57 | 0:53:03
equally... Commits the defenders,
which creates that space. Beautiful | 0:53:03 | 0:53:11
from Kay. Congratulations, firstly.
That was a really nice way for you | 0:53:11 | 0:53:18
to finish the tournament. Yes, we
wanted to finish the campaign | 0:53:18 | 0:53:24
strongly as we were disappointed
last week. I think Rugby League in | 0:53:24 | 0:53:28
Ireland has made a strong impression
in this World Cup. A lack of | 0:53:28 | 0:53:32
possession really cost you guys?
Yes, different areas of the field. | 0:53:32 | 0:53:37
Errors in yardage again. Just
couldn't get that battle. But we | 0:53:37 | 0:53:40
did, we scored troubled them a bit
but again it cost us. I think we've | 0:53:40 | 0:53:48
done out families and country proud
over the last few weeks. The thing | 0:53:48 | 0:53:52
that fantastic. | 0:53:52 | 0:53:53
So this is how the
quarter-final line-up looks. | 0:53:59 | 0:54:05
And this is how things finished.
They probably deserved better, | 0:54:12 | 0:54:21
Ireland, and whether better two
performers of the two home nations. | 0:54:21 | 0:54:25
I think they took a stronger swap
than they've had in previous years | 0:54:25 | 0:54:28
and played very well. -- a stronger
team. It's a shame we don't see them | 0:54:28 | 0:54:33
in the quarterfinals because I
believe they would be capable and | 0:54:33 | 0:54:36
could give Samoa a real run for
their money. Disappointing they are | 0:54:36 | 0:54:39
not in there. He had been saying if
they had been in group A or B, they | 0:54:39 | 0:54:47
would have probably finished third
in one of those. Yes, and I think | 0:54:47 | 0:54:52
they have momentum in the
competition and a terrific | 0:54:52 | 0:54:57
performance in PNG in difficult
circumstances, and they were | 0:54:57 | 0:55:02
exceptional, and they showed again
today that they have quality on | 0:55:02 | 0:55:05
their side, so it's a shame they're
not going to be there in the | 0:55:05 | 0:55:09
quarterfinal. But that's how it is
set up. What's gone wrong for Wales? | 0:55:09 | 0:55:13
To feel they've gone backwards or is
it where they've been based, or a | 0:55:13 | 0:55:18
mixture of things? A difficult
question, that, isn't it? I'm glad | 0:55:18 | 0:55:22
the World Cup is over for them
because it's been difficult to | 0:55:22 | 0:55:25
watch. The first two games in
particular, they were out of the | 0:55:25 | 0:55:32
game before they even got started.
They were better, they had a bit | 0:55:32 | 0:55:36
more resilience today, but they were
still second-best by a long way and | 0:55:36 | 0:55:39
I think there's a lot of work to do.
Within Wales, within grassroots, | 0:55:39 | 0:55:44
lots more work to do, lots more
money needed in the game in Wales, | 0:55:44 | 0:55:48
and it's a long way away from the
2000 World Cup. That last win seems | 0:55:48 | 0:55:53
a long way away. It's down to
personal for me. Wales have gone | 0:55:53 | 0:55:59
into this with a young squad. They
will learn an awful lot from this | 0:55:59 | 0:56:03
from my perspective. Two lads from
St Helens have gone out there. If | 0:56:03 | 0:56:11
there's one exceptional thing for
Wales in this tournament, it's that | 0:56:11 | 0:56:17
they have a leader for the future,
not just for now. Yes, and he's been | 0:56:17 | 0:56:23
the one performer you could say that
every game he's played he's been and | 0:56:23 | 0:56:30
eight, nine, ten. But as we've
discussed in the last few weeks, it | 0:56:30 | 0:56:34
feels like northern hemisphere
countries are playing catch up, | 0:56:34 | 0:56:37
particularly with the islands. I
think that's probably true at this | 0:56:37 | 0:56:42
stage. I think the difficulty is
Wales, Scotland and a bit island. I | 0:56:42 | 0:56:46
think what they face is a large
number of Super League players | 0:56:46 | 0:56:50
either being unavailable or they've
not put their hand up. -- and a bit | 0:56:50 | 0:56:53
Ireland. I think the last World Cup,
the amount of Super League players | 0:56:53 | 0:56:59
that filled those three squads, they
are just not there any more, those | 0:56:59 | 0:57:04
players, so those nations have had
to rely on championship and League | 0:57:04 | 0:57:07
1. The quality is now tougher. The
number one sport in Samoa, PNG, and | 0:57:07 | 0:57:21
it's tough to compete with that.
When for Scotland and Wales is not. | 0:57:21 | 0:57:28
Let's be honest. | 0:57:28 | 0:57:33
So this is how the
quarter-final line-up looks. | 0:57:33 | 0:57:35
Group A winners Australia
will face Samoa. | 0:57:35 | 0:57:39
Tonga play Lebanon. | 0:57:39 | 0:57:42
New Zealand will take on Fiji. | 0:57:42 | 0:57:44
England will play Papua New Guinea
in Melbourne early next Sunday. | 0:57:44 | 0:57:51
You can see extended highlights
of Australia versus Samoa | 0:57:51 | 0:57:54
on BBC Two next Friday at 1pm. | 0:57:54 | 0:57:58
And join Tanya on Saturday at 1.15pm
on BBC One for highlights | 0:57:58 | 0:58:01
of the first three quarter-finals,
including New Zealand versus Fiji. | 0:58:01 | 0:58:05
And we'll be back nice
and early next Sunday, | 0:58:05 | 0:58:10
at 4.30am on BBC Two,
for England versus Papua New Guinea. | 0:58:10 | 0:58:19

smiling face at the enthusiasm at | 0:58:19 | 0:58:23
half four start! Thank you to all of
you. Get the copy on! We will see | 0:58:23 | 0:58:32
you next Sunday. Goodbye. -- get the
