Autumn International: Wales v Argentina Rugby Union

The 34th birthday tomorrow under 100 cap today for Gethin Jenkins. Quite

a weekend for me the fourth Welshman to reach a century of appearances

for his country. A lot at stake for Wales as they seek a first at

international win against anybody for four years. For Warren Gatland,

a day for ringing the changes after a brutal defeat against South Africa

last weekend. The power of the South African

pack. They are an immense force. George North is beaten. The referee

awards the try. Jonathan Davies is coming off. Concede the try, lose

two players. It is a double blow for Wales. Wales have lost three players

in the first half hour. That is a try from a master strategist. It is

the same old story, Wales have only beaten South Africa once in 107

years. After the Springboks, the Pumas.

Argentina won on your last visit to Cardiff 12 months ago but 2013 has

been a tough year for them on and off the field. Nine defeats out of

ten, losing a coach and a number of star players. Just six players

survive from that triumph here one year ago. The roof is closed and it

is one of those outside nondescript Saturdays in November. There are

lots of football fans here from Finland to see Gareth Bale in the

international friendly in football tonight. We have witnessed today a

very distinguished trio of guests. They are arranged in height order,

starting with the Argentine captain when they got to the World Cup

semifinals in 2007. Very few people could carry off pink trainers on

television and you are one of those people. The man in the medal is one

of the four to 100 caps for Wales. And we have a British Lions centre.

You are injured currently. There are lots of games taking place across

the northern hemisphere, and you can see lots of them on BBC television.

Here are the details. Martyn Williams, let's start with

you. Why have Wales not been able to win in November for four years. It

is the million-dollar question. We have had so much success, grand

slams, championship wins. The only thing I can put it down to is

intensity. It is the step up from club level to international level.

We have struggled over the last few years and we have lost key players

to injury. We know we have the quality within the squad and the

team. The carrot has been dangled and so many occasions and wheels

have come within touching distance and have not managed to do it. --

and Wales. Why is that? I just think we have not been good enough. You

need to score tries. We have not been able to do that in the last few

games. I noticed in your newspaper column this morning you said that

you were looking forward to working for the BBC. You said it was great

but it would also be horrific. At the bottom of that list is the match

last weekend. What was your take on how the boys played last week? I

thought their passion and commitment was second to none. They gave

everything, but they came short on the scoreline. We did not score

tries. If you're playing against the sides you need to score. Hopefully

we can do that today against Argentina. We have got the quality.

Unfortunately, we have had injuries. It is great to see Cory Allen making

his first art. You were one of the people who fought hard to get

Argentina into the Premier League of rugby nations. I do disappointed

with the way that this year has gone? I am not disappointed. We did

not expect the game that we had against South Africa, seven points,

but we have played against the best teams in the world. It is tough.

Once in Argentina, we had to beat them, and we could not beat them in

the last ten minutes. It is a learning process. Last year, the

rugby championship, it was good. We are adapting. The players go from

Europe to the site. We still have to work it out. That is a key part

debate today. But let's focus for the moment on the man of the moment,

because he joins a very distinguished trio, which now

becomes a quartet. Gethin Jenkins, 100 not out. I do not really

remember my first cap, if I am honest. It is a bit of a blur.

Hopefully Saturday will be different. You never think that far

ahead in your career. My dream was to play for Wales. He's probably one

of the grumpiest rugby players that I have ever met, but I mean that in

a positive way. Sometimes he is grumpy because of his expectations.

He wants to win. Definitely the high point for me was scoring a try and

winning the grand slam in 2005. To be involved in such a big occasion,

and to score a try, that was my high for Wales. It is great when you

score, especially when you do not score very often. Adam James, Gethin

Jenkins, and Mike Phillips are key to us. I have had some injuries.

That is when I get frustrated, when I cannot be at full fitness.

Hopefully I have a few more years in me. My family have supported me

throughout. They have been there for most of the games. My mum would have

been there cheering me on. You think about how one occasion. But after

the national anthem is over, I concentrate on my job. It feels like

it turns, the six Nations, and we go from a winning side to a losing

side. We were winning side. We won two championships in a row. We need

to pick up on that this weekend. With the best will in the world, he

does not seem monumentally infused about winning 100 caps. He is so

excited, you can tell from that interview! He keeps his emotions

well hidden. But he is a world-class player and he has been for the last

seven or eight years. He will be out there today, telling everyone how to

pass, telling the hookers how to throw the ball in. He is phenomenal,

truly world-class. When I first came into the setup, at Cardiff, you look

to the senior players. He was always one of those players. The younger

guys look up to him. The effect on any team he is playing in is

massive. Justin Tipuric will have a major impact on the game, you would

think. He is one of the players that traumatised England in the spring.

Yes. Losing Dan Lydiate would normally be a big blow, but these

three players and the screen have laid so well against England. They

will provide a platform for the front five. They will cause havoc.

Talk us through the Welsh line-up. There are few changes.

Luke Charteris is waiting to come on, but the front five is where you

win or lose the game. Dan Biggar is the big story, coming in for Rhys

Priestland. It is a great day for Cory Allen, his first cap. His

family have come from Norway. This is the man who has made those

changes, Warren Gatland. A pretty brutal physical contest one

week ago, and now, Argentina. These games are never easy. I sense from

your reaction last week that he felt there were positives to take from

the match with South Africa, giving the disruption with injuries? Yes,

it was a brittle game, it was really physical. The way that we coped with

major injuries, we got back into the game. It was 17-15. I am really

proud of that. We need to work on defence and dominate in the air. We

need to finish off the opportunities. We created more line

breaks than the South Africans did last week. It is just about us being

clinical. I cannot question the effort and the attitude of the

players. These games in November are never easy. You have had a pretty

poor record in recent times during the autumn internationals. Why is

that? We realise it has not been great. Would I have great autumn

internationals and a terrible six Nations, no, I would not. When we

are at full strength, we have a very good team that can compete against

anyone. Five of our British Lions players are out injured at the

moment. It is about developing some depth within the squad. We have not

had very great international matches recently. We have played the best

teams in the world. We are well aware of that. It is important we

get a result today. Hopefully we will get a result next weekend

against Tonga. A mention of Cory Allen. He plays in the centre, as

you do. I am sure that he will want to get the ball early. Yes. I am

sure that the coaches have spoken to Dan Biggar, and told him to get the

ball into this guy's hands. He is talented. He has shown what he can

do in rugby sevens. How big a blow is the injury to Jonathan Davies?

Very big. Especially with the man stood alongside me out as well. They

work so well together. I think that the defence will be key today.

Joining off -- going off to France, but fundamentally, a lot of Welsh

fans will see one after another, that drip of good players. They say

it is just money. It is professional sport. John Davies has want to

improve himself and to get experience with one of the top

teams. And they compete at the highest level every season. It is a

fantastic way for him as a player and a person and we will see more

awards players heading abroad. Is there no loyalty with the Welsh

Rugby family? The fans are here watching every week and they deserve

to see the best players? That is eight good question and you have to

do what is best for your career, individually. This is an

opportunity... They want to play in a winning side and the Welsh regions

are not winning and are not successful. Go to Clermont and you

will do that. This is the issue with Argentina? This is a professional

sport and as long as it does not jeopardise the national team, the

men are here to play. And they can get better here or there but at the

end of the day, they must do what is best for their careers. Wales has

got very talented players and they can play for the international team

here and that is urgent but then if they go somewhere abroad, it is good

they have that in the last 15 years. The Welsh team will be wearing a

special symbol on their shirt and Jill Douglas can tell us about that.

The team will put on their jerseys and you will be able to see this

purple emblem on the sleeve. This smiling face and support of the

former captain, Matthew Rees, who was undergoing treatment for

testicular cancer. They decided they wanted to show support for their

team-mate and former captain and for this emblem, purple shows support

for the cancer charities and the smiling face because those that know

that the rice -- Matthew Rees will know that he is very smiley. And we

sent our best wishes. The atmosphere is building. A quick

word about Argentina this year. Just one solitary victory against Georgia

and some very heavy defeats in the Championship. And losing their

coach. Where are you at the moment? This is professional rugby and the

pressure comes in. They are under great pressure. We had a very tough

Championship and a lot of teams were not performing very well. In other

games we did not play so well. The first game against South Africa was

not great but we were coming out of pre-season because lots of players

were having four weeks of preseason training after leaving their clubs

in England and France. That is a transition period and we have to

adapt and even with that as best as we can and I think the guys did very

well. Last year, we had to beat South Africa and we drew against

them so it is a learning process. We are 15 years late to professional

rugby and the clubs and the structure here in Europe but if we

are not here, we will be left out. Talk about today's team. They have

been in the rugby Championship for the last nine weeks and we have a

very strong front row. A very good prop. Very experienced players. On

the second row, their best we have. On the back row, a very young and

experienced back row. Great young prospects. Very good backroom.

Halfback, we have tried this combination. We are changing from

last week. The centres did very well. They are experienced and they

have been there for a while. Andy Buckley, they can do a very damaging

game. Santiago Cordero, very young prospect. And has his 50th cap in

his Argentina shirt. That is the tradition, we cut the hair off. Now,

they have to suffer that! But a really good player. We saw him

against England last week. His first cap, sidestep, 50 metres. How did

you look with your head shaved? Not like myself! Jonathan Davies is in

the commentary box. Good afternoon. We always talk about this team in

terms of attack behind the scrum but other areas where there is room for

improvement? I think there is. You have to earn the right to go wide by

going forward first but at the international level, just take the

ball to the right alley. Alun-Wyn Jones. What they need to do is just

take that lake -- netball at the for Rhys Priestland. You either have

three on one or four players onto. -- on two of them. Great support

play. Scott Williams straightens up. That lovely run around the back of

Jonathan Davies. He has to make a choice. Leigh Halfpenny or Jonathan

Davies? Very well executed move. You have to ask a. To get to the ball

carrier and they have to be five yards in front always.

Unfortunately, they do not get their and that move guys away. That was in

the first ten minutes. Again, they nicked the ball. Toby Faletau takes

a ball. Very condensed. That dummy run, the tech people up, Rhys

Priestland, Leigh Halfpenny needs to go around the back. And from that,

you have that overlap against two of them. These little things they have

to do. Those little differences. I caught up with Warren Gatland during

the week and they said they were playing exceptionally well. They are

really at the top of their game. They have a great bunch of players.

Class players. They just need to find that 1%, chasing lost causes.

Being in support of the breaker and those drivers will come. That will

make the difference. You have got Leigh Halfpenny behind you and there

are people who think that perhaps that channel outside the centre is

the line he could be running. Is that a valid comment? He has great

batteries, rate in the air and his kicking game. He has spoken publicly

about how much he wants the ball in his hands and to run. Looking at

last week, we can perhaps organise better this week. George is not

quite get into the game as much as we would have liked last weekend. It

is all about variety. A couple of years from now, we will be in the

heart of the World Cup. Whatever your thoughts about Wales or England

and Ireland, South Africa at Murrayfield tomorrow, you can

one thing we have not spoken about, which is unusual, is the scrum and

we spoke before the match about South Africa and 56 stone in the

front row and that was a key area. What about the Argentina scrum? Is

that the basis for the Pumas? It is. And that is one of the things it

works really well so we expect that. We expect today to bring the scrum

and to be very physical. Again, Wales are very experienced with the

front five so it will be a good challenge. Martin? Oliver talk about

Gethin Jenkins is correct and Rhodri Jones has been playing

semiprofessional all year. This is a very big step today. He is a natural

forward. And there is no tougher team to play against in the world.

Hopefully the pitch will hold up. The pitch could be an issue because

it looks rugby. -- rugby. A big moment for my macro. 50 caps. Played

in the fantastic World Cup campaign that saw them finishing third. And

in 2011. He has played for Leinster. Here come the Argentina team. One

word game this year in Rome next weekend against Italy. Ashman Eoin

Morgan. -- one war game. Gethin Jenkins. He will shortly run onto

the field at the millennium Stadium. To win his 100th cap. For his

country. And I am sure this is a mixture of pride and aviation and he

will be humbled that the achievement he has. Only three people

previously. What was it like for you? I came off the bench. There was

a cricketer in the 90s who were suffering from injuries but that was

the proudest day he had. I was talking to Trevor woodland, from the

England World Cup team and he said that he was thinking about his

mother and father. I suspect that is what is going to the mind of Gethin

Jenkins at the moment. All of those people who have got him to this

historic moment in his career. 99 caps for Gethin Jenkins. 100 very

shortly. I am just happy he has got rid of his scrum cap. He would be

very unhappy with me saying that. He is a winner, he is a competitor and

he will be desperate for a win today. Both sides are lining up.

the roof away from a gloomy November day outside. There have been a few

of those in recent seasons. Last week's defeat to South Africa left a

few bruises to deal with, but that gives others chances today. Rhodri

Jones is in for Adam Jones. Justin Tipuric is in on the open side. Cory

Allen is the new boy at centre. All apart from Mike Phillips are under

the age of 25. Argentina have been lamenting the loss of their captain

recently. Juan Manuel Leguizamon nowhere is the armband. An injury to

Juan Imhoff will give Santiago Cordero his chance on the wing. A

quick look at the replacements. We should see a debut for the tight

head prop Samson Lee. The referee for this one is John Lacey. He is a

former Munster fullback. The clearing kick under pressure

does not gain too much crown. It was not the greatest. Today, Wales have

got to create and score from those opportunities. The kicking game will

be crucial. That is a good tackle. Bosch made

the tackle on Tipuric. The kick goes into touch. It gets in the

territory. Decent early defence from Argentina. I saw Leigh Halfpenny

running into the hole on the outside of the centre.

That is a very effective credence. It was taken by Manuel Carizza. --

effective clearance. That was well taken by Tipuric. That

is a great rolling maul. Here come Wales again. Richard Hibbard tries

the off-load. Still with Wales. He is off his feet. That is the

first penalty. Mike Phillips takes it quickly and goes. He finds Toby

That is a great tackle. It was still advantage. They come back all the

way. It was a very good tackle by Sanchez. I do not think he was

offside. It was from the first infringement. This will be three

points. This will be a first chance at golf early have any. -- at goal

for Leigh Halfpenny. He is one of the stars of world rugby, there is

no doubt about that, with his efforts for the British Lions. That

man did not too bad a job in his absence at the Six Nations. It has

been a long season for the Argentinians. They do not have an

off-season. It is just continues, it runs them ragged. -- continuous.

Halfpenny and Wales are and running. Three points, richly deserved for

all the pressure and play. He does not miss many. 312 points in Welsh

colours now, Leigh Halfpenny. That was a great tackle. That was

all from the tackle. What a fantastic tackle. I think it was

Fernandes. He had help from Manuel Carizza. Watch the tackle. It is a

good body angle. He has got the penalty. It is a big too far out.

George North was talking about wanting a bigger game today. He was

a little bit quiet last week. That was a great run by the

Argentinian captain. It is an interception. Surely it is going to

be a try. Mike Phillips goes the length of the field to score. The

dummy was enough. That is what they needed. Just watch the supporting

run of George North that takes the defenders away from Mike Phillips.

He was looking for support. I did not think that he had the legs. It

was very well finished. Just watch. This is the mistake. It is the rush,

it was a great tackle. The ball bounces to Mike Phillips. Head down,

it is a race. George North comes across, he throws the dummy, both

players go to him. Great support by George North. I great opportunist

try from Mike Phillips. -- a great. Mike Phillips is currently

unattached. And it is a great opportunity and advertisement for

his skills. Leigh Halfpenny Ticketus once again. -- to kick once again.

Wales move to ten points. The tackle for Richard Hibbard one Sanchez

almost made that. Yes. They get smashed. He is in and he is away. He

will flash across, the two defenders will go, and he will score.

This is marvellous from Santiago Cordero. That is magic from the new

boy. There is still a chance for Argentina. There is an incident

card. Very unlucky because I think he was trying to get to the ball

Santiago Fernandez, he was bearing down on them all. I am sure he is

going to gather it. That line-out works nicely for Argentina.

If they can move it wide? Again for Argentina. He gets it away to Dan

Biggar. He is chasing three Argentinian players. Into touch.

about this talent on the wing. They have such an awareness of space.

yet. Every time the ball has gone down, the Bynes has favoured Wales.

That was well watched by Williams. And Leigh Halfpenny. And Sanchez

waiting in return for that one. Just plugs a guide from just inside his

is what you do with your chances when you have the ball. And Wales

have a chance to stretch their lead. 17 minutes. Have we had a scrum yet?

Know, which is why we are all smiling. Quite unusual. No trouble

with the distance. He just needs to stroke it.

Yes, he is running back. He knows it is good. Up 13 points and 91 man. --

I'm one man. -- down one man. Despite the potential threat for

Argentina, they have nothing and Wales have all the points. That kick

was too far. Taken in by Phillips. That was a good tackle. Phillips

with the kick. And the captain decides to kick. Here he goes,

number eight. Another knock on? Of the food, says the referee. Still

Argentina. Close to the line. That was great play from Juan Manuel

Leguizamon. Pushed back. Still playing with one man advantage,

remember. Scott Williams was rocked as he made that tackle. They need to

go right. And so they do. Still Argentina's ball. But they need

points to show for this. Just slows down a little bit. A little look

around from Martin Landajo. Trouble again. They are saying good football

at the minute, the Argentinians. Go playing. He did not stop play but

everybody halted. And now the penalty to Wales. He said play on

and everyone stopped, even the ball carrier.

Lovely chap. -- chip. Such a good player, 32 macro. Tremendously

powerful. -- Juan Manuel Leguizamon. People will remember his celebration

playing for London Irish. Well, I think there is one minute left in

the sin bin. Both sides in, Captain? Over the head. Loose and taken up.

That was a poor tap. And then they were shoving it on. Alun-Wyn Jones

have a little bit of a scrum here. Exciting. The first scrum. I do not

understand that little kick. That is always dangerous. Just in time.

Justin Tipuric comes back on. And Wales scored three points to ring

that time. -- during. The first scrum of the match. The first test.

Rhodri Jones. I want your shoulders up. Here we

go. That is not acceptable. Both of you. OK? John Leslie laying down the

Not yet perfect. Maximilano Bustos penalised. Downward pressure on the

right shoulder, he said. Chance for a relieving kick. From Dan Biggar.

That is a good kick as well. Argentina conceding more penalties

earlier on. The line-up coming up. I think they will be happy with things

so far. Just if you mistakes to iron out. Straight through! No stopping

him! In for the try for Wales. Their second. That is a very well worked

try. You take all of the back row forwards, up to the line, expecting

to go midfield. And then he just steams up the middle. They tied him

in. He takes the last man. Lovely step. They have worked and worked

this one on the training field. He said he wanted to make more of an

impact this week and George North, with the try. And Wales have 20

points. This is a very good try. Just watch this. He goes to the

back. Just watch. Mike Phillips takes the last man white. That is a

lovely step. Very well worked, that is. Ominous for Argentina. Get the

ball. Out into touch. It is draining for these players. They did not too

badly against Australia, South Africa and New Zealand. But there

were also some heavy defeats in their as well. It will take a while

to adjust to the pace of that competition. Alun-Wyn Jones. Penalty

to Wales. Offside. Did he have his hands on the ball? Don't take the

chance. See of his hands were on the ball. See if his hands. Juan Manuel

Leguizamon felt it was fair play to go through and try and get that all.

Yet, just watch. He says his hands will run the ball. Was it off, I do

not know? It is a tough one to call. -- was it offside. That is of side.

Wade is the mark? That is an interesting col. Does he go for goal

the touchline? Marcelo Bosch has plenty of distance. I think there is

enough time left. You have got to take the points. There might be as

-- there might be some choice language going on down there.

Apologies for that. It is these rugs and types. It is the referee's

microphone. It is picking up everything.

Wales claim that was a knock-on, but the referee says no. Advantage to

Argentina for an offside, and the penalties there is. -- is theirs.

Look at this tackle. Richard Hibbard. That is a good head. There

are not many hookers in the game better than him at the moment. A

chance for the first points on the board. Nicolas Sanchez gathers them

up. South Africa are playing Scotland at Murrayfield tomorrow.

Today, Ireland take on Australia later on. England are playing New

Zealand at the moment. It is on BBC radio just now and you can see

highlights tomorrow. Release, number seven. It is

Argentina's ball again. That was a little knock-on by

Argentina. It is Wales's ball in the scrum. They are quite energetic, the

Argentinians. That is a lot of variety in their play. I think

they're trying to expand the game. It has been quite entertaining in

that respect. This is only the third scrum we have had. I am watching

that left shoulder. Make sure that he binds. It is OK, other than that.

The referee is having a chat to Gethin Jenkins. 30 minutes gone at

the millennium Stadium. It all looks good for Wales. Let's get some

thoughts from the studio. At the moment, I think that Argentina have

played most of the rugby. I think that they need to be more tactical

about it. Wales are slowing the ball really well in the contact area.

Argentina are trying too hard and Wales are capitalising. The thoughts

of the former Argentina captain. He led them so well at the 2007

Argentina -- 2007 World Cup. There was good yardage on that kick. It

was a good game. The pace has just dropped a little bit in this match.

But it has been very entertaining, the opening half-hour. Wales scored

the vast majority of the points. Biggar sees space in the corner. It

has gone the wrong side of the corner flag. We understand that

there was going to be rotation at Number 10, that Biggar was always

going to come in for this game. I think that Rhys Priestland and

Biggar crippling exception of the well this season. They are picking

from strength. -- are playing exceptionally well this season.

James Hook is waiting. I am sure that he will, and later. We have not

had many scrums so far. Come on, get your feet underneath. Let's have a

good scrum. One that finishes. That was a good shot from Argentina. It

is a solid scrum. I think the Welsh will be happy with that.

I have been very impressed with the Argentinian attack. There has been

lots of good running and lots of writing. -- lots of variety. That is

half strongly. Let me deal with that. The last scrum was good for

you. The last scrum was pretty good from both sides. Yes. Young Rhodri

Jones is doing a good job. You can see it beginning to go down. Rhodri

The knock-on came from Argentina in the end. There is a significant

difference in the support lines today. Look at them running, looking

for the past. That is the difference. This is a good scrum

position. Held at the back. Toby Faletau picks

both wingers on that side. Penalty, but might be the last action of this

Argentina have the best opportunities but the day began with

Gethin Jenkins acknowledging the fact that this is his 100th cap. A

dropped ball and Mike Phillips was away with great running from George

North. Look out for this man in the future. Santiago Cordero. But that

chance went begging. George North how that great inside pass off the

back of the line-out and Wales had two tries to the good. 23-3 at

half-time. More meters made for Argentina. There are no clear-cut

opportunities. Argentina would leave that as well. -- lead. Martin? Yes,

Jonathan said that. Strange game. Argentina played pretty well with

the ball in hand, similar to Wales last week, not clinical enough.

It is a long road back because Wales are defending pretty well. Strange

one to analyse. Everybody remembers watching you playing when you were

all this and that. You wear! Yes, I think again, Argentina played a lot

of rugby and I said this before, tactically, we are not playing well,

Argentina is used to being put under pressure. This is the balance we are

searching for in the Championship. You need to score tries and the boys

have played a lot of rugby, they are trying hard but mistakes at this

level, you lose the ball and Mike Phillips was under the post. You get

it wrong on the defence and that is 20 points. And Wales have been an

hour have scored. Very clinical. As a neutral fan, they will be very

restricted, Argentina. Fluid in attack and a couple of mistakes.

From a Welsh point of view, they have not played so much rugby. Going

back to Mike Phillips, we have analysed this, Argentina have just

overcomplicated things. Santiago Cordero, if he just passes this,

Juan Manuel Leguizamon would be through, under the post, but he has

gone for the ball behind. That was a poor pass to Nicolas Sanchez and you

could argue they should have done better. Mike Phillips is doing very

well. That was a good speed. And George North? Martin mentioned his

skill and vision, George has made that trip. Working very hard off the

ball. That 14 point swing and psychologically for Argentina, they

have played some good food and they are down and have not done anything

wrong, really. That is such a big dent. The man with no hair and the

dancing feet. I said that before. You were watching him last year,

eight years young and talented. He enjoys playing rugby. He was

selected to play in our under 20 and under 19 teams and I do not want to

talk too much about him but I have said this before, he is going to be

a fine rugby player. This was a magnificent chance? The centres are

always taught to chase kicks in Wales. That was a golden opportunity

for Argentina. They will look back at that. That could prove pivotal.

That was pivotal and if the first try, from Phillips, was the Ford

team point swing, then the try from George North, opportunism? This

looks pretty clear-cut. I think that was poor defence. No communication

at the back. That is a training ground move. Argentina were a little

bit vulnerable at the line-out but that was a great finish and great

execution, great little touch from Mike Phillips. Justin Tipuric and

Toby Faletau, midfield, that counts at this level. This is what I talk

about, being clinical. Mike Phillips fuzzy inside ball and he can go out.

But was a well executed move. We did not see that coming on the inside.

Once the first line of defence is gone, it is very dangerous to catch

up. I am sure you have done this, when George North is running at you

from the line, it is not much fun? It is frightening. If there is one

player who could play in the NFL! He has got the size and the pace and

the agility. When you have that agility and that size, it is scary.

He has shown that he is one of the leading wingers in world rugby and

only 21? He will be doing what Gethin Jenkins was doing. Talk about

the way that Wales have slowed the ball down? They have done a very

good job. We missed 12 tackles, which is not like Wales. Perhaps not

creating the actual turnovers but if you look at these examples, slowing

the ball down, just a spit second. Justin Tipuric slows down, does not

steal the ball but he knocks the momentum and a good -- they get that

full red line of defence. Pretty decent ball, quick ball. Rhodri

Jones and Sam Warburton, they do not win the turnover, which makes it so

easy for the line, the defence. It is those little things, and

Argentina get frustrated. One final talking point, Ryan Moore is a

regular part of the team here and he has been raving for many years about

the scrum and we have somebody here is a key person in deciding the

future direction of the game. What is happening? We all agree that it

has been the most criticised part of the game and, again, it is a very

technical part of the game and the referee, it is very hard for him. I

am not so sure that the referee knows or understands clearly what's

going on. How do you get them to understand? We are working with

those new changes. And they are helping a lot. What we will see this

autumn is the new rules are changing but, again, it is a very complex

situation and you can ask the front row or anybody in the scrummage, it

is a completely different world in the scrum half. I feel sorry for the

referee. Criticise them when the ball is not being put in straight

because that is clear to see. You need a front row forward there. In

some shape or form, to help referee. I cannot comment too much but for an

area of the game that plays such a pivotal part in the outcome, for it

to be such a grey area, that is frustrating at the highest level.

Argentina, they pride themselves on the scrum, down the years they have

won matches from the back of the scrum. To be such a grey area is

very frustrating for this game. All of us have to work, not only the

referee. We have to educate players to do scrummage is well and

straight. And for coaches to help that and for the IRB and the various

panels to work on this and make it clear. Because it is a very

important part and it is in the DNA of our game. We cannot make it

weaker. We are relying on you to sort it out at! Andy Moore rugby to

after this and after that... -- we have plenty more rugby.

special programme this week, because this is the 10th anniversary of

England winning the World Cup on November the 22nd. On the 21st of

November, Clive Woodward reviews that much and where he thinks that

England went right and wrong. Let us talk about this game and the second

half because 20 points, what do you do? If you carry on playing the

game, you could still suffer a very clinical Welsh side slowing the ball

right down. And kicking very well. They have to start with the

fundamentals. But the ball behind the back of the Welsh front line and

tried to create opportunities and put them under pressure. One of the

advantages of able getting injured is you must give others an

opportunity to see what they are made of which might be the start of

who knows what. What have you made of Cory Allen? He has not had too

many opportunities with the ball but defensively, he has done very well.

We like to come out of the line and make good decisions and he has done

that. Shaun Edwards will be very pleased. But the type of game to get

the ball in his hands too much but hopefully in the second half. 20

points, they need to just come out with the correct mindset and take

the game to Argentina. Argentina came out and they did say last week

at Twickenham. They are causing the Welsh problems with the ball in

hand. The Welsh will want to tighten up and make sure they have more

fluid -- fluency with the ball in hand. Go through the phases a little

bit more and put the Argentinians under more pressure. That is James

Hook. This has been a very long half-time. What happens is we have a

raft of replacements which might disrupt the continuity of the game.

If you look at the Welsh bench, they are in a good place. They want to

just kick on. This is what topsides do. The first score either get

Argentina back into the match or puts Wales well and truly out of

sight. It will be very important. Jonathan Davies and Andrew

Cotter... If Wales need anyone in, they only

need to look to last week when England had a very similar lead at

half-time and Argentina came back. In the rugby Championship, the teams

they play, they cannot just roll over in the second half. Because

they will be put away quite heavily. They are accustomed to coming out

behind and they will give it all again. The right mindset. Argentina

have made one change. Amorosino is on at fullback. Joaquin Tuculet is.

-- is off. That is a good drive. He was held

up. That is good captaincy. Keeping the referee suite is very important.

Perhaps he slipped him some money! It is a good scrum from Argentina,

but Wales get it away smartly. If they get it wide, there is a

chance. Scott Williams. George North, Leigh Halfpenny is there.

A second chance for George North. He was taken down round the ankles. But

it is coming back for a Welsh penalty. Let's see what they do

here. They should take the points. George North is in trouble. I think

he just tripped over. It looked very innocuous. We hope that he is just

winded. We hope it is nothing more serious. Let's see what happened. He

skips the tackle. I think it is just astray and former Albacete. -- a

stray arm from Albacete. Perhaps he landed awkwardly on his neck. They

will take every precaution. His arms were trapped so he could not stretch

them out to save himself. He is a bright, thankfully. Leigh Halfpenny

will put the three points over. He is back on his feet. It is a great

run. George North is back on his feet. If you want to beat Southern

Hemisphere sides, those are the opportunities you have to score. If

you think of any of the top three sides, having a breakaway like that,

they would score. The Welsh boys will be disappointed with that,

because they are tight with really great force. -- because they

attacked. Well, they did not score a try, but it ends with three more

points on the board for Wales. Look at this. George off-loads. That was

a great opportunity. That was carried back into the 22,

so out on the full works even better for Argentina. Yes. Let's have a

look at this take. That is nothing really wrong with that. Bradley

Davies is still down. Luke Charteris is waiting on the bench. There he

is. That is the lovely inside pass. This is a great tackle. This is the

tackle. He is tough to bring down. He is very strong and quick. Bradley

Davies is still receiving treatment. You can contact us through all

manner of social media. The details are run the screen. -- are on the

screen. Argentina with a good attacking position. Bradley Davies

is back with us. That is good play by Tipuric. That

is what he is therefore. Good play by Biggar. He saw where

the touchline was and he just drilled him in the tackle. They are

just picking up the pace. The Argentinians must be tired. They

have the longest season of any national side. They are bound to

tire. Play with intensity and pace. Santiago Fernandez was looking for

that one, but Leigh Halfpenny claimed it. That was unlucky. It was

a forward pass in the end. It has gone into touch, that is the

decision. He just tried to play the overlap. That is what he did. Just

watching. -- just watch him. I think Faletau is a fantastic footballer.

There he is. His father was a great Tongan international. He claimed --

he came to play rugby in the field, and Di Resta is history. -- in Ebbw

Vale and the rest is history. The scrum is sad. It is a penalty for

Argentina. Gus Pichot in the studio summed it up. Does anyone know what

is going on in the scrum? That was a decent kick. That is the position

for Argentina. They are 23 points adrift at the moment. If they got

one score, they might be able to feel their way back into this game.

But they are looking a little blunting the final third of the

pitch. Alun Wyn Jones trying to get fit in.

-- to get a foot in. Sanchez had a pop at it. He knew the penalty was

coming. That is why he had a go at it. Wales 23 points in front.

They're having to make a few tackles as well. Yes. Wales have missed a

few as well. They will not be happy with that statistic. That is Jamie

with a wonderfully easy style. They are back within 20 points. It is

very different to the match we saw last year between these two sides.

Wales were very off-colour, and Argentina were said a better side.

They have been beaten up a little bit this year. Juan Manuel

Leguizamon again. That is a terrible mistake. You get

points on the board, and the next thing, the client layout of the own

22, and they give Wales a great attacking position. -- they try and

play out of their own 22. Wales have options either side.

It is a free kick. Not straight at the scrum. It is a free kick for

Argentina. There she goes. Luckily, he missed

that. Lucas Gonzalez Amorosino floats that wide. Maximilano Bustos

off-loads. Lucas Gonzalez Amorosino switches it

infield to Lucas Gonzalez Amorosino. Penalty to Wales. I think they will

bring Leigh Halfpenny up? So far, six from six. From Leigh Halfpenny.

That is the first dummy. Good off the ball rolling. Lovely finish.

There have been mutterings about Mike Phillips becoming a centre of a

contract player. Always a talking point. He is unattached at the

moment and the six Nations is coming up. Might be an opportunity to see

how it goes. Wales with a couple of tries and the

steady, unyielding boot of Leigh Halfpenny.

That was a rare mess. That was one of his easier kicks. It just drifted

off? Yes, the follow-through was not quite there. Just drifts past the

upright. The game has not quite been killed off just yet. The restart.

Almost backwards? Yes. Fernandez. Just waiting for a change from

Argentina. Bringing on Leonardo Senatore, coming on for Pablo

Matera. He has a hint of Alun-Wyn Jones about him. It has not been a

great game for him, one of the great players in the Argentinian side.

Always works. Point the camera at him! That was a good drive from

Argentina. Wales have to be sharp. Leigh Halfpenny, except well.

Wonderful try for Toby Faletau. The Argentinian defence cut apart. That

is what we like to see, Leigh Halfpenny, running deep. He has the

pace. Lee Williams gets the pace. And brilliant support play from Toby

Faletau. Get on the outside. The winner is caught inside. Lovely

finish. Santiago Cordero gets caught a little bit. Leigh Halfpenny gets

on the outside. The inexperience of Santiago Cordero. Lovely inside ball

and great support play. Lovely drive. The second half needed

something to lift the crowd and Toby Faletau delivered that. Three tries

for Wales. They are past 30 points. That was low but through the posts.

Two point four Leigh Halfpenny. And at the moment they are heading in

the right action. Here we go. How can a free kick be

given at the last scrum? That was blatantly not straight. But the

referee has to be consistent. Penalise him again. You wonder why

they give the occasional one, there. Little bit of frustration. Here come

Wales again. Cory Allen gives the dummy. Back infield to Leigh

Halfpenny, trying to sneak through. Still, Wales come. Philip 's is

down. Justin Tipuric. Richard Hibbard is in there. Cory

Allen, that was well placed. Taken out as he was grabbing adept by

in temple again. This is what Wales have to do. -- tempo. Here they go

again. The chance to counterattack. Give it to George Owen. George North

What thoughts from the studio. In the first-half, tactically we were

not laying in the right places. We were just playing on our pitch a lot

of the time. I am sure that in the dressing room, they have said, go

out and play. But laying against a very clinical Welsh side, when you

play in your have, the ball is very difficult to just go 50 or 60

metres. Argentina have put in a lot of the effort but Wales have done

really well in the second half. They have had plenty of ball. Plenty of

rugby to play. But not in the right areas. As is always the way in

rugby. Yes, there is George North playing in the centre. This could be

a channel ball out, very quickly. Toby Faletau down the right-hand

side. With Leigh Halfpenny, George and Liam Williams. The pitch has

held up pretty well today. At this time of year it is not bad at all.

Holding up very well. We want to see this scrum. It is an

attacking opportunity. I was walking past the park this morning, the

artificial one. And at Liberty Stadium they have that hybrid one.

Might that we the future? Maybe. The drainage is not very good here.

Another massive effort by Richard Hibbard. Ken Owens is on to replace

him. The Welsh ball. Again, Toby Faletau has to get rid of that

sharply. Great strength by Cory Allen. Enjoying his first cap. More

of the ball in the second half. Yes. Scott Williams. Rhodri Jones, and

wide it comes. Luke Charteris off-loading. He is on for Bradley

Davies. Well, it has been another good game for Richard Hibbard. That

is a great run by Richard Hibbard, there. He tries to off-load. Nearly

they were to be Tonga, and Australia after that decent performance, they

expect Argentina to win this scrum. Sometimes they don't look straight

but they have to go down that channel. They don't have to be

exactly straight? Some part of the ball has got to be in the middle,

that is what they say. Referees have got to be consistent and then the

scrum half will put the ball in straight or else they will be sat on

the bench, in the sin bin. From up above, that looked askew. Just get

on with it. That was a very good kick. A little bit unlucky. Leigh

Halfpenny was not really sure. He was blowing it. 15 minutes to go.

Wales just about home and dry. They are going to play to the last minute

and they want to show a little bit more. Argentina with a couple

waiting to come on. Amorosino was under pressure, and

Wales get deep -- get the penalty. This is a chance to try and find

field position. He has gone for good distance, Biggar. That is a great

kick. It is wonderful. On come the replacements for Argentina, the

hooker, Santiago Iglesias Valdes. Also, Tomas Lavanini. He is the

second row. He comes on for Manuel Carizza. The other player to leave

his Eusebio Guinazu. The ball is at the back with Ken

Owens. They are going faster now, driving towards the line. Another

try for Wales. They will be absolutely delighted, Ken Owens,

absolutely delighted. Very well worked, total control. It is a first

try for Wales for Ken Owens. They have produced all sorts of tries

today from a variety of positions. This was all the forwards. Yes,

total control. They were patient. I will let Martyn Williams in the

studio explain that one in finer detail. Ken Owens, happy with his

work. Wales are ready to make a couple of substitutions as well. Lee

That is a wonderful strike! Wales hit 40. This is turning into a very

impressive win. Wales take the chance to make other changes as we

Samson Lee is in the front row for Rhodri Jones. It is his first cap.

That is a contest on the ground. It is a penalty to Argentina. There is

Ashley Beck. That went the wrong side of the corner flag. Ashley Beck

comes on. Argentina are making changes as well. That is Nahuel

Lobo, the Newcastle prop. He is coming on for Marcos Ayerza. The

Leicester man has not really had his chance to do anything in the scrum.

Cory Allen was the man to give way to Ashley Beck. Eight minutes to go.

I wondered if there are more scores to come in this game. Yes, the

Argentinians are trying to keep it up, to keep the ball open, to create

opportunities. Alun Wyn Jones, head in hands. It

was on, it was on. That was wonderful stuff from Wales. Matias

Diaz is coming on for Argentina, the front row, for Max Bustos. Also,

Ryan Jones coming on for Wales, for Toby Faletau. He has been absolutely

fantastic, Toby Faletau. Argentina are looking very weedy. --

weary. What about the man of the match today? My man of the match,

Toby Faletau. He has been tremendous. Great informants is from

a lot of people, but it has to be him. Mike Phillips did exceptionally

well, but he has been outstanding, Toby Faletau. -- great performances

from a lot of people. There was just a little leg on Liam

Williams there, which was caught on the big screen. Yes. As he is

getting up, there was a stamp. Yes, forward pass. Yes, I know. Still to

seems to have sorted itself out at Mike -- sorted itself out, but look

They are forcing them back. Argentina have a penalty. So, back

they come. They will be very, very happy. Yellow card. Samson Lee, ten

minutes in the sin bin on his debut. Into the final minutes. Argentina

attacking against 14 men. Patricio Albacete, he got it away.

But they are heading backwards. They are trying to be too lateral. The

worst offence is too good, they have to go forward. But to give them

credit, they are playing an expansive game because a lot of the

old heads on the front row have got to play a different game. Trying to

sneak through the middle. The last passage of play. And it will go to

Wales. And a chance to score. Numbers this side as well. Still

looking for another try. Scott Williams. He was crowded, there.

He dropped it, it seemed to go backwards. And that will be the end

of things, they're all. -- they are very happy with a very handsome win.

1% of kick and chase is good, they put their all through the hand a

little bit more. And then they were just too strong, they scored as

opportunists. And they will be very happy with Cory Allen. Rhodri Jones

and Rhodri Jones, their performances. And especially that

man. Hopefully, no injuries going into their last games in the autumn.

But a very solid performance and they will be very happy with that

result. Defeat for Argentina and an encouraging win for Wales. Four

tries and 40 points. It has been a long time coming,

their first autumn international victory since 2009. I thought the

second half, they had total dominance, physically. Much more

organised. Wales have been more clinical than last week and they

took their chances, a really impressive performance. I think that

Argentina looked at their feet after 55 minutes. The good thing about

Wales in the second half is they came out and they were pretty

ruthless and clinical. They will be very happy. 12 months ago, Argentina

were victorious year. How have you gone from being comprehensive

winners to losing by 34 points today? Wales played very well.

Credit to the Welsh team. They needed to win desperately. And

Argentina, again, looking to play some good rug they and very

clinical, really good, clinical performance from Wales. Here is a

man who will be known by Justice Christian name, he is George and he

is with Jill. George North, so many positives. How did it feel to be

part of that? It was great, from last week, we had a lot of mistakes

and we tightened up our game and we were more accurate than we were

going forward but from last week it is a massive improvement. It has

been a long time coming to get improvements in these autumn

matches. Yes, it is good and we didn't start the best last week but

this is a massive competition for us and Argentina played very well. But

it is good for us to win. Rob said he was hoping you would get back to

some other form from the summer. Great support in that Mike Phillips

tried and then to steam up the field yourself to score, that was straight

from the training pitch? Yes, it was just generally a better performance,

myself included. The team played in the right areas and to our strengths

and they were more accurate. Congratulations. George North was an

obvious contender for Man of the Match but Toby Faletau got that. We

will hear from him. The thing is, we can see this try. What is the ideal

combination in the back row? I wanted to watch Toby Faletau.

Positive support. They can easily follow the ball. I used to make a

living from this! 20 metres from his run and he anticipated that Drake

and he is on the inside shoulder. Fantastic run. That is one thing

that Wales did not do as well last week. We have not flooded the line

and run without support line. To have the vision to see him and the

accuracy to find him. Toby Faletau getting Man of the Match. Wales have

got three from four in the background. And Ryan Jones came on

and he always makes a very big impact. Selection headache over the

next couple of weeks. It is all about Australia. And Sam is where he

is. It will be uninteresting selection. Sam Warburton is

delighted to have woken the record. He was going to be the captain of

Wales for eight consecutive defeats. We can forget that. Letters talk

about the final Welsh drive. There is one area of the game that we do

not go into in much detail. Tell us about this. Ken Owens will get the

plaudits for this, his name will be in the paper. Number 16. The boys in

front, particularly Alan win, we can see him. It is so easy for him, he

keeps grabbing players, probably too high, technically. He is dragging

bodies with him. Luke Charteris is also doing a great job. Those voice

in front, very unusual to have a driving line like that. -- boys. His
