Argentina v England Rugby Union

It's a new-look England team for the first of two Test

matches in Argentina, with 30 players unavailable

through injury, suspension and the British and Irish Lions tour

of New Zealand. So, Eddie Jones has named

a match-day squad featuring no less than 11 uncapped players but there's

real strength in depth in English rugby right now, as the Barbarians

found out last week at Twickenham. Warm weather rugby at Twickenham,

England on home turf, facing the Barbarians. Perfect match with

young, eager players, blending into the system. Ewels with the first

try. -- Nathan Earle with the first try. Ewels scoring on his first big

counting. Tekori scores and those over. England completing the win in

style. A very different challenge awaits

today in San Juan. Argentina named an experienced

line-up made up entirely of players from the Jaguares Super Rugby

franchise. These two teams will face each

other in the same pool at the next World Cup.

A real opportunity for this young England squad to lay down

a marker and impress Eddie Jones. Good evening. Both summer tests,

Argentina against England, live on BBC Two for the next two Saturdays.

You can't beat it. Good evening to Sir Clive Woodward and Jeremy

Guscott. I would have thought that Eddie Jones is relishing looking

forward to every moment of seeing his young team. He'll be loving it,

there's no pressure on him. Since the Ireland game he relied he needs

to develop this England team and he can develop it against a tier one

team. 11 uncapped players in your starting group, amazing and a huge

opportunity for Eddie. And every single player. The pressure isn't an

Eddie, it is a win win situation. Huge pressure on the players

individually because they know they have this chance because 30 players

are missing for various reasons. Head to head in a tough place

against a tier one country. A big opportunity for everybody and Eddie

is going to be loving this. England have chosen a tough destination.

Argentina is a tough place to go but in 21 meetings, Argentina have only

one Mac four times so England can be confident. The exciting thing,

seeing the anticipation of this new look side, all the youngsters coming

in and be experienced coming in, it is a big opportunity for them to

express themselves. I think England haven't nailed down 12 and 13, ten,

12, 13, the combination and there is an opportunity at six and seven

because you think of Haskell and Robshaw, the incumbents, are they

going to make it to 2019? A lot to discuss. Some big names missing.

Let's have a look at the England team. Some familiar names like Brown

and Jonny May and George Ford and Danny Care but Alex Lozowski, Harry

Williams, Marc Wilson and perhaps most importantly, Clive, Tom Curry,

18 years old. How excited are you to see him tonight? He is a team come

incredible opportunity. He played well against the Barbarians. Playing

in a position which I think is fairly open for England selection.

We want to see him playing at this level. For him to go up against a

top country is huge. I hope we see him playing the physical game, we

see him here over the ball, but also being the link man. Great

opportunity for Curry but he is 18 years old against a very experienced

Argentinian team. He will know more about himself in a couple of hours

and Eddie Jones will certainly no more. The youngest England

international since Nou Camp Jonny Wilkinson in 1998. We brought him

off the bench -- since you capped Jonny Wilkinson. This guy is in a

really tough theatre here. Fascinating to see how he does and

also the three uncapped players alongside him. But a lot of

experience as well, Dylan Hartley is one of them. What did you make of

him giving an interview saying he is not an Lions S:O.S. Duty, he is

concentrating on this tour? That's the current captain, that's what he

must say, that is what I would like to do and I would like to lead this

team into the 2019 World Cup but he's under a lot of pressure with

Jamie George and he must stay on top of his game. He is playing those 45

minutes, 50 minute durations in matches which some people are

questioning but his strength is the set piece and he rarely misses the

line-out throw, great at scrummaging, not fantastic around

the pitch but his experience is invaluable. Going past Martin

Johnson, no mean feat. Amazing, equalling Lawrence Dallaglio.

Johnson and Dallaglio, Legends of the game, Hartley is up there now.

The has gone to a new level since he was capped and it was an inspired

choice by Eddie Jones. Let's hear from England coat. -- England coach.

What kind of match do you imagine? Always a physical game between

Argentina and England. The conditions are good. Argentina have

been playing quite an expansive game so it should be a great contest. The

young guys in the team, they are going to continue growing? When you

put in the younger guys you don't know which way they will go but we

are pretty positive today. Eddie said it is one of the greatest

challenges in world rugby. Let's talk about Argentina because they

had a pretty bad 2016. They beat South Africa in the Rugby

Championship but they shipped many points. I'm fascinated, the team is

one club side, we've never seen it before when they are playing all

year round in one club team, and then the same team steps up into the

international jersey and putting on the shirt of Argentina. I find that

quite interesting because I just think, international rugby, you

bring players from different clubs and different ideas, it's a big step

up. They haven't translated the team spirit of the Jaguares into the

international team. So far it hasn't worked but it is a must win game for

them. Under huge pressure to get a result. Some of the players talk

about it being a passion. They see the Jaguares in the super rugby

franchise as their job but this is about national pride. While they are

playing provincial rugby in the super 18, they are special when they

get into the international is. What they have done recently has been

inspiring, a great advert for the game, especially getting as far as

they did in the World Cup, playing the rugby they played. A good thing

for England that they play an expansive game so they can get into

the game quicker. Is it a chance for Henry Slade? He has been hurt by

criticism from Eddie Jones and he said he is out to prove him wrong

tonight. Eddie knows what he is saying, he's just trying to put some

heat under Slade. I think Slade is a great player. As Joe said, I don't

think the ten, 12, 13 positions are nailed for England. Farrell is going

so well. Can Slade play outside him? A big game for George Ford to see if

he can keep the access going with Farrell or summary like Slade going

to come in? He is multitalented. We have three great ballplayers in

Ford, Lozowski and Slade, we've rarely seen that before. I'm looking

forward to seeing Henry Slade getting a proper start for England.

Here come the Argentinians. Eddie Jones gave an interview where he

said that the Argentinian -based game has been about muscle, everyone

eating steak and wanting the scrum, so it is a matter of where they go

but he acknowledged that they have changed their game, they have the

attacking dimension and can run the ball. Huge attacking dimension, the

quarterfinal between Argentina and Ireland was spectacular in which

they made a big contribution. Talking about the bread-and-butter,

the set piece. One player to look out for England, Ellis Genge,

becoming good at scrummaging but look out for him carrying the ball

around the field. That is where he comes into his own wearing number

one. We talked about the young players but what about people like

Joe Launchbury, who was unlucky not to make the Lions tour? Watching

him, excited for the players. You have Hartley, Launchbury, they will

be disappointed. The only way to take out the disappointment is to

play. What a wonderful opportunity for these players tonight,

especially the experienced ones. Thank you, boys. Time for the

start of a lack of bulk in the England team, going full speed right

down the three quarters line. -- going for speed. And eight for the

Pumas. Leguizamon. Argentina have inexperienced props too. Creevy, the

thumping heart of the team. Lavannini is back from injury.

Experience in behalf row and at the back. Power in the centre and

direction. They will be looking to be expansive as well. There are

threats on the wing. Big Boffelli winning his first cap. Nigel Owens

of Wales is today's referee. Shielding his eyes from the southern

hemisphere sun. It is blazing down for 330 days of the year in this

Western Province of San Juan. Only 30 days of rain. It is arid and dry.

Brilliant playing surface, cut short for football. Ready-made for rugby.

Young England against the Pumas of Argentina. George Ford stance and it

has gone loose until Leguizamon clears up for the Pumas. The

captain, Creevy. Let him go. The first pause of the game, coming back

to Nicolas Sanchez. Down to Mike Brown. Celebrating his 26th

birthday, Hughes, today. It has gone loose. Turnover ball,

Argentina. The first whistle from Nigel Owens. Good afternoon, Andy

Robinson. Good afternoon, good evening, everybody. Great challenge

for this England team, against a fired up first choice Argentina

team. The England team has an inexperienced look but there is

experience going through the spine of the team, partly, Launchbury,

being looked to take the lead and also Care, Ford and Brown. If they

can get on the front foot they can get the England team moving and give

the inexperienced players energy and enthusiasm to play with free rein.

Right on the halfway line, the first scrummage of the game. Argentina,

renowned, of course, for their scrummage.

England holding firm. Nick Hughes was able to pick up but can't find

Marland Yarde. Nigel Owens as whistled, penalty, Argentina.

Penalising Hughes because he picked up the ball through the middle of

the scrum. The number eight must wait until the ball gets to his feet

before he picks it up and plays it. Really good first Argentina scrum

there. Nicolas Sanchez waiting for the kicking tee to come on. 2000

feet up here on the desert plain on the edge of the Andes as well. Here

is the drive. They call it the low ring of the unit. You were saying

that they all breathe together. Building up the pressure, all

breeding at the same time and then they sink their hips and they get

the push forwards, all working together. -- all breathing at the

same time. Sanchez, for the first points of the

game. Distance, not a problem at all. Direction, just off.

George Ford restarting. That's gone too far. Argentina, with all the

options. Scrummage, back on the 22. Disappointing first kick from George

Ford. He has gone for length and he overcooked it. But the pressure

straight back on England. Interesting to see how England work

this next scrum. Lavannini and Alemanno, Giants in the Pumas'

second row. This, in front of the posts, 22 metres out. Lovely spot

for a scrummage. Nigel Owens checks the forwards.

Landajo checks with the backs. We will have to go through the rituals

again. England have been working really hard on their props

dominating with their binds. Working hard with their arms, trying to get

on the front foot. Penalty, to England this time. Good

scrum from Genge on the front row. Taking a backward step there. The

Argentina front row, penalised for them to Mac in the scrum, the head

and shoulders going below the hips. -- penalised for hinging. George

Ford can hit the ball straight out. England will have the throw in.

Hartley in the scrummage. Setting very low. Launchbury, beaten to the

ball. Argentina with turnover ball, going wide. Matera involved in the

midfield. This is Boffelli, the new cap, six foot three on the wing.

Penalty. England, not releasing. Penalty against Wilson. Argentina

got on the front foot from the turnover from the line-out, very

strong carries. Sanchez putting the ball into the 22.

England, get on your 22 please. Argentina, slow to come to the

line-out. Leguizamon staying at scrum-half. Ortega Desio. Into the

England 22. Creevy, sent back to the line. Sanchez, the little dink

through. Oh, that's a quite sensational try. It's the new

player, Boffelli, scoring. On his first test. Some really smart play

from Argentina. The ball up from the forwards, the back of the line-out,

the chip from Sanchez was perfect for fairly to go in and score.

Straightaway the forwards, the front five doing some good carries,

hitting back on the short side. Sanchez using the kick there,

perfect scoring. Looking to move the ball to the right side first, taking

Brown away from the sweeper role, giving space down the left-hand wing

for them to score. That energises the crowd and gets them behind them

as well. Not that they were exactly quiet to begin with! But there's no

place like Argentina forehand atmosphere. And when the Pumas

score, up they go. And they will go again if Sanchez can land this.

Argentina lead, 7-0. England have had a bit of a nervous start, the

set piece hasn't gone as well as they would have liked, short of

numbers down the short side, Danny Care not playing sweeper in the

line. Sanchez saw the space and kicked behind it. England must

settle down and get some phrases going. Straight down the field by

George Ford. Plenty of height on the ball. Argentina, though, straight

onto the offensive. Landajo, that's gone too far. I suppose with

football fields, there is a chance to be more narrow. This one looks

like it is a bit narrower than the 70 metres with the use to at

Twickenham. -- the 70 metres width we're used to. Nathan Hughes busting

through into midfield. Just when he seemed to be in the clear, the ball

went forward. Again, England turning the ball over after one phase. They

haven't built up the Andreu to give themselves confidence on the ball.

-- haven't built up the phases. Hughes turning the ball over in the

contact as it was ripped out of his hands.

Things to ponder in these opening moments.

Argentina going for the drive on their own put in. Very solid. High

tackle. The crowd thought so. Penalty advantage, Argentina. The

drive up by Lavannini. They knew that there was an advantage and it

is taken quickly. Not a good place for Landajo to slip, in front of

Nathan Hughes. Nathan Hughes makes his first mark of the game.

Fantastic tackle on Landajo. Really good play by Argentina, moving the

ball wide from the scrum inside their own 22, earning a penalty and

then they've been able to control possession. Slade going over the top

with his tackle, his arm sliding up and taking the neck. Orlando with

the head bandage in the Pumas centre. Down it comes from Alemanno.

A little confusion. Sanchez clears up.

The warning from Nigel Owens to the tackle. -- to the man tackling. If

you pick a man up, you must be careful how he comes down. Argentina

are in control but going nowhere, so Sanchez goes high. Brown couldn't

make it and a way comes Argentina. Good tackle by Marland Yarde the

Landajo changing direction. De la Fuente going nowhere. That's

loose. Tom Curry seizing the loose ball. England with turnover ball. A

chance to come wide. Williams, his pass is intercepted by Moroni. The

winner, not held. He can pick himself up and go again -- winger.

Argentina, through the front row. Argentina, probing to the side. But

it's still slow for them. Advantage, England. England have another

advantage, turnover advantage. Lozowski. Jonny May, playing

scrum-half. Joe Launchbury, the second row. Danny Care looks up, who

is there? Genge is next to him, he's going to kick. Sanchez, coming out

of the sun and it requires collecting to restore order.

Penalty. Stood in front of the kicker. Just acting as a block to

stop the charge. It's so important now, particularly from the base of

the scrum and the rucks. First tackle in. What has been impressive

by the England defence... Here comes the Argentine prop. He moved across.

Just a technical penalty. Very technical. It is, but he's tried to

stop people getting in front of the ball and blocking and that's why

it's been used. What's been impressive by England in the tackle

contest is they've been working hard to go forward which has given the

Argentina attacking game a slow ball. England will be able to

control the attacks. Very well struck. 7-3. Great stuff

from George Ford. That's what we are looking for from him to become a

great player, to make those kicks. England steal one back, or do they?

Reclaimed by Creevy. The flick off the flash and through come

Argentina. Hartley, the England hooker and captain. The hookers very

much involved. Super tackle from Genge. Lavanini.

Change of tactic. It was going well until Argentina knocked it on and

Genge is involved again. Still advantage to England. Danny Care has

to be quick about it. Hashley says no advantage thank you ref let's go

back for the scrum. What we are seeing early on in the game is what

I seem to have learnt from playing the southern hemisphere sides, a

couple of trick plays early on in the line youth, things they've

learned from New Zealand and Australia, which is just breaking up

again. Again there, it goes. Both front

rows battling for the inches on the bind which is creating a problem.

Genge and Pieretto singled out by Nigel Owens. Away comes Nathan

Hughes, tries to free Yarde. Great opportunity now. Ford gets

territory for England. First quarter over. It's been very

cagey, apart from the very well worked try by Argentina. A lot of

reset scrummages. Turnover ball, line-out not fully official. Tom

Curry wins the ball. Lozowski to Hughes who does get England on to

led the charge. Curry stopped. Ford options on either side. Launchbury

this desert sun. A scrummage in the shadows.

perfect says the referee and England do get the penalty this time. The

timing not perfect on the second occasion. Plonlny penalised. --

Moroni penalised. Perfect timing there to make the turnover when he

was on the floor, he played the ball. When he's on the floor, he's

got to release it. Smart play for Hughes as well after the carry from

the scrum. England's play started from their own 22. Hughes carried

from the scrum powerfully, let go of the ball, picked it up again and got

in the heart of the Argentine defence. That enabled it to get to

the Argentine 22. They're just starting to get their power runners

running hard. Allowing George Ford to be on the front foot. Ford

doesn't take any time. England within one point of Argentina. 7-6.

We need to see the powers running in because Ford on the front foot is a

fantastic attacking option for England, his passing is exceptional.

England have to split their forwards to receive the kick off because

Argentina have done exactly the same as their chasers. Sanchez. Henry

Slade. We are back on the sunny side of the

pitch. Low and flat towards Ortega Desio

who wins it. Lavanini. Bit of a singling runner

and found himself isolated -- single runner. Penalty for England. England

dominating these physical exchanges. England are completely dominating

that area. Good, low tackles coming in, allowing Mark Wilson, who's the

top turnover, top tackler in the Premiership this year, to go and ply

his trade. Very strong over the ball. Ford. Good pass.

E-Leguizamon. Safely secured this time.

Ewels buries himself back in the heart of them all. Lozowski. Slade.

We have had plenty of these in this first half. Williams. Good pass by

him. Lozowski. Danny Care. Oh, that is an outstanding tackle by

Argentina but England still in possession. May. Just couldn't get

the pass away until he did find Care. George Ford to Yarde, winger

against prop and the winger is the clear winner. What a score. It's

absolute chaos on the rugby field at the moment. Complete chaos. As Eddie

Jones has practised since he's come into the England team, being able to

play with chaos and showing it there with superb attacking play from the

turnover. Well won by Genge. Brilliant line by Lozowski. He ran

beautifully straightening up, gave the ball to Care. Beautiful pass.

What a fantastic bit of play. On the distant touchline, George

Ford prepares as everybody takes a breather.

England for the first time have taken the lead. And George Ford has

stretched their lead with a beautiful kick from the touchline.

Those are important moments, to add that extra two points from the

touchline. Well played, George Ford. Watching this, his left hand there,

superb pass. Yarde showing the finishing skills he's renowned for

at haar begins. -- Harlequins. Henry Slade puts it a long way down. And

it comes back to Johnny May who claims the mark inside his 22.

Johnny May's taken a time out. It's been so chaotic, he just wants a bit

Argentina started well, scored the try, but England have not just

clawed their way back in, they did that with their two penalties, and

then they cut loose. Fabulous try by Marland Yarde.

Another line-out. Pieretto. Creevy joins in is. Leguizamon. Matera

confronted by Nathan Hughes. Whoops. Moroni. Gone backwards but the

little winger is on his own for the moment. The forwards did well to get

back and help out. Boffelli, the winger. High towards

Mike Brown. Marland Yarde, his club mate is with him. Danny Care. Genge

couldn't resist and it's come loose. De La Fuente. Boffelli. Was that

deliberate? It's a penalty. Still a chance for Argentina. Two on one,

Boffelli for a second try. Not held. Yarde has to make the tackle. Four

metres out. Arrange arsenal are arriving in strength. Landajo took

it on himself. Pieretto, the prop, over the ball. Lavanini with the

brown cap picks up and feeds Creevy. Creevy held by Mark Wilson. Genge.

Lavanini. Can he stretch with the long arms? Penalty advantage being

body height. Pumps his legs, held by Alemanno. Helping him over the line.

Try for Tomas Lavanini. Getting underneath, fighting to stay up,

using his hand and gets himself over the line, supported by his second

row mate Alemanno. He worked really hard not to two to ground. -- not to

go to ground. The try came from another turnover. This game is so

chaotic. A joy to watch though. It is. It took a while but it has truly

come to life. Just over two minutes to go before half time. Nicolas

Sanchez to put Argentina back in the lead.

He does and he is two points short of 500 for his one terrorism -- for

his country. 14-13 Argentina lead. Great strength by the second row,

body angle good. Leguizamon. Slade with the follow up

tackle. Matera has lost it. Another

turnover. Hartley to Care. Ford. Slade. Yarde. A breather. Wilson.

His third turnover of the game. Forces the long pass which goes into

touch. Knighter side can get control of the

game -- neither side can get control of the game. The stands are more

steeper than they look there, nobody is far from the action. Ortega

Desio. A little bit of movement. Now some

very rapid movement. Landajo comes behind it, Yarde. Yarde does very

well to come away with the ball. Care. There was space there.

Sanchez. Tuculet. The ball is chasing him all around this field.

Mike Brown. There is space over there, but Brown has sliced it. Will

we have time for the line-out? Looks as if we will. The half that keeps

on giving. The hooter went. Nigel Owens checked

that the ball had gone out before it had. On we go. Creevy to throw.

Lavanini the try scorer down to Leguizamon.

Lavanini does a bit of hammering away. He has To be careful. Wilson

the object. But it's a good drive by Argentina. They have a penalty.

Matera takes it to ground. Penalty has been given. Tom Curry penalised.

The Argentines taking good control of the game. The second very good

ball from them. Creevy, the captain indicates that he is going for goal.

If he lands it, Sanchez will go past 500 and only two other Argentina

players have done that. Beautifully curled in by Sanchez. A

bonus for Argentina at the end of the first half, meaning they head

for the changing rooms with a four-point lead at half time. 17-13

to Argentina. Back out for the second half

shortly. Your day may have started with a thrilling British and Irish

Lions thrill in New Zealand. We are expecting more points and tries to

be scored second half. General assessment of the first half? The

game was about turnovers, England led them 9-6 which allowed them to

come into the game. It was interesting the physique of the

senior forwardth forwards powering in, the new guys were underpowered

and underweight. England played really, really well but it's the

turnover that's absolutely key. The line-out hasn't gone well. We always

thought there would be problems with the Argentinians because they're

solid. Right in it and some great tries. Slightly chaotic for you,

Jerry? Yes but enjoyable. You expect that from the inexperienced side.

They've been in the UK getting their act together, getting used to

playing in those units of the midfield, back row, second row. So

there's always going to be A bit of getting that togetherness

coordinated and right. So in a strange country, in the heat, in the

desert, it's going to be a bit uncomfortable, but by the end of the

first half, you saw some cohesion. At the beginning, messy. It was

rather sloppy, but I suppose you would expect that with so many

inexperienced players on the pitch? These are experienced players,

certainly at the top of their game, they're just a bit nervous and

because they haven't played together, they kept on making the

errors. What's bad about this is that it was winner report after

another, so the compound penalty came and just meant they had no

momentum. They couldn't get any cohesion going. Once the tell fence

was fairly good, the tackle percentages were very high.

Eventually when you are under that much pressure, you are going to

buckle. Argentina then scored the try? Yes, it looks like a simple try

but the skill involved was fantastic. The kick was fantastic.

Amazing try for. I've been impressed with the way England have struck

back. That was a great kick and such a skilful thing to do. Yes, that was

Boffelli's first try. The coaches love it, don't you? ! I can troelt

that. I said to Jerry straightaway, be very clear, they're up for this

game. Great reaction from the coach. As we said, that's what Eddie Jones

wants, the players to be exposed to this level of rugby? It's a Test

match, you have got 20 today be tested. There is expectation. We

thought the game was going to be open and a lot more tries but there

are some nerves. Pumas are playing at home and

expected to win, probably easily. The young England team want to

impress Eddie and get a place for the future. Marland Yarde scored for

England and they are back in it. How impressed were you with this try,

Jeremy? Well taken, from the turnover, the ball bobbled out and

the loosehead Genge gets there very quickly. Launchbury has had a

magnificent game. Williams, new cap, passing it on. Turning inside and

outside here. Keeping the ball alive. You are hoping that somebody

like George Ford can get his hands on the ball in a situation like this

because he can read the game so well. Great pass. What a pass. Yarde

watching Ford's eyes, he knew where the mismatch was and that was a

great score. Marland Yarde made his England debut in Argentina Arquata

years ago, a game you covered here. Seems a long time ago. -- four years

ago. Eddie Jones likes Marland Yarde are definitely a favourite, he gives

him another chance and he took it tonight. Great finish. Then

Argentina scored again and this was a proper old-fashioned Argentinian

try. Read one, in that one -- Route one in San Juan! You know this is

what they are going to do, there is no shame. A penalty as well. They

have that in the bag. A decent, well taken try. They know they have the

extra power, the England forwards are a bit lightweight because the

guys coming in are young and still developing. Argentina going back to

type, this is the obvious strength they have against England. Great

try. The scary thing is that the Argentina bench is very powerful and

experienced as well, so this will be a long second-half for England.

Compare to the inexperienced England bench, we were looking at Lavannini

before he came on -- we came on the air, 20 stone as well. He's a unit,

isn't he! As Eddie Jones said at the start of today, he eats a lot of

steak. Plenty of rugby this weekend. The British and Irish Lions were

looking to bounce back after their midweek defeat, under a lot of

pressure against the Crusaders. Looking to bounce back from the

midweek defeat against the Blues. Improved performance from a very

impressive Lions, four Owen Farrell penalties effecting the first defeat

on the Crusaders this season. We can speak to Chris Jones, who was at the

game and worked late into the night to send us this report. Challenging

start of this tour for the Lions, scrappy victory followed by defeat.

To take the scalp of one of the best club sides in the world is a

significant statement from Warren Gatland's side. It was far from

pretty, based on a phenomenal defensive effort as the Lions kept

the Crusaders down to just three points. In these parts, that's an

hurdle. The line-out worked well, George Kruis working well, Faletau

excelling at number eight and the half-backs pairing of Murray and

Farrell, perhaps cementing their places in the test team. The Lions

spurned opportunities, this remains a cause for concern but was today

the day the 2017 Lions announce themselves to the New Zealand

public? And perhaps started to win a bit of respect? Tough week, really

tough. A lot of criticism. People have written off the tour. Already,

after two games. That's been challenging, challenging for all of

us. We've had to stay strong within the group, keep the faith and say,

look, the goal is the Test match and keep improving from there. I hope we

didn't disappoint too many people tonight with the result. From here

is the Lions are going to Dunedin to play the Highlanders. Captain Sam

Warburton will be involved after recovering from a minor ankle

problem. Although the spectre of the All Blacks looms large in a

fortnight's time, the Lions are now well and truly up and running.

pretty, amazing performance from the Lions. The line-out was amazing,

Farrell, one of the best games I've seen him play. When he's on fire,

fantastic. The scoreline flattered the Crusaders, the Lions team were

two or three better than that. A lot talked about the Crusaders, in

fantastic form in Super Rugby. I can't think of a real chance they

had, can you? No, a couple of breaks but the scrambled defence of the

Lions was great and that was the important thing, their defence. They

created opportunities and they will need to finish them against the All

Blacks. Set piece, good, defence, an par will start work on the attack

and they'll be ready for the first test on the 24th. More to come at

the end of tonight's match. Another England team looking for glory

Highlights of England against Australia in the Champions Tour.

Winger against prop and the winger is the clear winner. A trifle lab

are leaning -- a try for Lavannini. Brilliant quote from Eddie Jones in

many papers this week, a lot of talk about the uncapped players and he

said about Matt Giteau, I gave him his debut for Australia. He was

terrible, dropping the ball, two bad passes, rubbish, the second test was

better and then his career blossom. We don't have Matt Giteau on the

bench because the new caps have played well. The fascinating thing,

the bench is important. We saw the Argentinian power coming into fore

over the ten minutes. It is how he uses this and stop the Argentina

power and I think we will see the old-fashioned Argentina coming back,

more driving mauls. Innard must keep up the pace of the game and use

these conditions, because they are good conditions, to play at the pace

we need. We have players like Ford, Lozowski and Slade. We must keep

buying at pace and try and outscored this Argentina team. Thank you to

kick and a very good settler. Big challenge for his goal-kicking and

George Ford is currently delivering. Sanchez has split his forwards. And

stop Henry Slade putting Yarde into space. The strength of Marland

Yarde, it took three tackles to stop him. Good hands, Tom Curry. Nathan

Hughes, the birthday boy. Genge, the prop. Jonny May, off his

wing. Care, did he want to switch

directions? Williams joining in. Everybody is involved. For the first

time, England going in the wrong direction and Argentina with the

penalty. And off we go. It's a good kick. For a moment it

seemed that Argentina might go the length themselves. England playing

with really quick ball. The pace of the game, when they get the pace of

the game at a high level, by unstoppable with the attacks they

have. Great scrambled defence by Argentina, slowing the ball down

close to their line, stopping the England momentum. Hartley eventually

getting turned over in the tackle contest. The game gathered pace

through the first half. It started off even faster in the second. Way

comes Nathan Hughes, shrugging off one and two tacklers.

Genge, how busy are the props out there? Creevy, his hands in the way.

George Ford sending it high towards Moroni. Landajo was back to help

out. Slightly untidy by Argentina. Advantage England, they have the

put-in at the scrum. Great tactics by England, kicking into the sun.

Really putting pressure on the catch by Moroni. Very hard to catch the

ball coming out of the sun. With May chasing it down.

Another scrum goes down. Nigel Owens, saying let's use it quickly

and we'll be all right. Jonny May coming into the line and keeps going

a couple of yards. Ewels with Launchbury. Wilson, held

up by Matera. Wilson delivers, though. The other wing forward, Tom

Curry. Brilliant by Henry Slade, the little pink forward for Jonny May to

chase. Outstanding skills from Henry Slade. That's why he's picked at 13,

to do exactly that. Incredible hit coming in from the Argentina

defenders but brilliant gills. Superb from Slade. Showing the ball

and having the foresight to kick it through as well. Well played, Henry

Slade. He started the second half really well. The weight of the kick,

perfect. To have the foresight to do that. Carrying himself, and

unselfish play. The English fans in the crowd. Forming a small part of

this crowd. But they've got plenty to cheer at the moment. George Ford

again, from wide out all stop Argentina have already made a

change. An hands, Petti. -- on comes Petti. He'll go into second row,

looks like Lavannini is coming off. Another brilliant kick by George

Ford. Five out of five. England are back in believe. Already in the

first half you have seen England lifting the pace. In the first half

It looks as if we're going to have another change of the lead. England

snatched it back. Not so much snatched, as created. Argentina have

developed, playing against the southern hemisphere teams, playing

in the rugby Championship. Some real pace about how they play.

I swear there is no crowd like it. And up they go again. Very difficult

to swing low, isn't it? The Argentine supporters, fantastic.

They are celebrating great rugby. England start to work their bench.

field. Argentina, flying at the moment. England must score twice to

take back the lead. Even Joe Launchbury, who has been mighty in

this game, giving a bit of ground. Francis is immediately involved.

Landajo, he's had a very good game. He has distributed intelligently.

Sanchez, haven't seen much of this in the second half. Mike Brown

tested, and knocks on. Argentina have the put-in. Their change of

tactics from Argentina, going the aerial route. They've done it twice

now and both times they've got the ball back. Useful tactics for them

to use. Leguizamon goes off and on comes Senatore. Highly experienced.

England have very little experience on their bench. They have talent,

but little experience. Senatore brings. 44 caps coming onto the

field. Exciting time for the England bench. Waiting to come on, waiting

to hear from Eddie Jones that he wants them to join the fray. They

will be buzzing. When I say in length have no experience on the

bench, they have no caps with seven of their eight replacements. Matt

Mullan with 15 caps is the only one who has played test rugby.

We're back to those long distant days of the first quarter when this

was a problem. Both sides, we have to have the space. Keep the pressure

off you. Sanatore says to him, oh, that was

on, wasn't it. It was covered by Mark Wilson. He was alive to it.

Argentina exert pressure. Huge pressure. It's the first time it's

happened. Rampaging scrum by the Pumas. And they've won the penalty.

Oh, I can't tell you how much that hurts if you're wearing dark blue

now. Under real pressure. All the forwards working together,

come on, Sanchez comes off. What a good performance from Harry

Williams. He should be really pleased with the debut. Some

outstanding tackles. Very good carries. He's done a lot of unseen

work, well done Williams. Right choice to bring Collier on now who's

been scrummaging very well for Harlequins this year: England have

to score twice to get into the lead. George Ford is happy to have a long

shot at goal with this penalty. It islong one too.

Beautiful by George Ford. He has been imMacrat with his pace-kicking

and they've all been difficult. Long kicks, kicks from the touchline.

He's keeping England very much in this game. That kick's also silenced

the crowd. England under real pressure in that last ten minutes.

Brilliant first touch for Francis to get the off-load support work as we

a couple of Argentinian mistakes and England can go into the lead with

this kick from Ford. Argentina trying to get back on the

front foot. George Ford pinching himself a

couple of feet there. The way he's kicking it, it really doesn't

matter. George Ford adds a try to his two

conversions and his four penalties. This to put England back into the

lead. Gives it a certain poetic justice

here. Such a pulsating game. Both sides playing so well. We are all

square. 31-31. Hernandez. Has that gone too long? A

mistake by Juan Martine Hernandez. England look as if they are going

for the scrummage on half way. Hernandez' first touch. Puts

pressure on himself. Will Collier's first scrum at

international rugby. What's left? The Argentinian legs?

Not as much as Nathan Hughes comes away with it. Slade. Brown. May goes

in for some clearing out. Back to Tom Curry. Forward. Really unlucky.

Curry running into space. Just overrunning.

Landajo is injured. We have a replacement anyway.

12 minutes to go. Anything could happen in this game and anything

could be reversed again. 12 minutes to go. 31-31 is the right score from

what we've seen so far but really looking forward to this next 12

minutes as England use their bench, the young inexperienced players

coming on. Landajo comes off. Not without a

limp. A lot of shaking but it's not moving

an inch. They get it away eventually,

Argentina. Hernandez gets the pass away. Orlando straightens it.

England scrambled back. Senetore. Matera. Another pass very well

taken. Argentina on the march again. Matera. Play on says the referee.

England's defence. England pumped. They have worked the turnover. Dare

they come from here. They do. George Ford. Jonny May for himself to chase

and the touchline wins. Beats them. Two amazing tackles. The work he's

had to do, he's made two fantastic tackles to save England. Succeeded

last change in their front row. Penalty against England for the

deliberate knockdown. Was it deliberate? England just getting

their timing wrong when they tried to collapse that ball. Just watching

Senetore, at 33, he's starting to feel it. Great pace. Another change

performance from Tom Curry. Incredible work in his defensive

tackle. The tackle contest. While you're talking, I'm looking at the

kick by Hernandez. I mean he was tight against the touchline and he's

Henry Slade? Play on. Nearly opened up. England have a penalty

advantage. Mark Wilson singled out by the

referee and his fellow players. George Ford. That is another

excellent kick from the penalty. From a dangerous situation up into

the Argentina half of the field. Who knows what is happening in this

fantastic game of rugby. 31-apiece. Seven minutes to go. They're

breathing hard. Mark Wilson's had a fabulous game. Brilliant game.

hand. Argentina take the lead. England still have time to fight

back, but what a good attack from Argentina.

monster kick, a huge kick. Mike Brown, will he keep it in play? He

brilliant kick. It leaves the Pumas parked. It's been a huge game.

Trading on the resources of the players, sapping the energy, raising

the entertainment levels of the crowd. Jonny May. Tackled by

Orlando. May wriggles and turns to face the right way. Argentina sense

a turnover. It's safely there on the England side. Launchbury. Francis.

Is the new camp going to score? Remarkable Solomona for England with

less than a minute and a half to go! England have seized the game at the

death. Solomona. What a first touch. What a first touch from him!

Incredible power step. Well played, Joe Launchbury. Watch this power

step. Fends off and has the ability to power away and score under the

post. We will restart play. The try was

lands the conversion. This has been one of the games of the season, one

of the games of many a year. Solomona, the power to get through

one tackle and then the speed. It's worth noting that Jack Border

has entered the fray. He's tying his laces to take up a bit more time.

There goes the hooter. All England have to do is secure possession and

get rid of the ball. The replacement scrum-half feeds the

scrum and gets the ball away to George Ford. Nigel Owens blows his

whistle. A remarkable game of rugby comes to an end and England on tour

in Argentina have beaten the hosts. Argentina 43-England 38.

I have no idea what you have got planned for next Saturday evening

but I suggest you cancel whatever you are doing and make a date with

us, because after this, you do not want to miss the second test. What

an international Test match, Clive? I'm not always speechless. It's

absolutely fantastic and well done both sets of players, big well done

to Nigel Owens, refereed the game brilliantly. The spirit it was

played in, the tries and the fluidity with the young England

players who stepped up to the mark. This young lad Tom Curry will be

battered and blue tonight but what an amazing game. Hartley,

Launchbury, Hughes on to the end. The substitutions were right. What

an amazing game. Congratulations to everybody involved. Brilliant. They

held their nerve England. I didn't think they would with the

inexperience coming off the bench. I thought they would fold and collapse

because the Pumas had the momentum and let it two with a poor decision.

These kids came on, the inexperience came on and were absolutely

phenomenal to keep going to that end. They played with ambition. They

played like they had something to lose and they really put that

performance in. What a story that is on his debut. He was absolutely

brilliant this evening. You have to say, for those inexperienced

players, this is a huge moment in the rugby lives. That changing room

will be amazing for England now. A huge, huge moment for them and Ford

was absolutely fantastic. Outside his goal kicking, the team was

composed. Slade alongside him played well as well. The fluidity was

fantastic. The senior players really stepped up. 2 side got better with

the tempo -- this side. They really got excited and wanted to get hold

of the ball, linked incredibly well, gelled the further the game went on,

the stickier they got. It was brilliant. When you're up against it

and Argentina looked as though they were going to race away, even some

experienced rugby test sides might not stay in it but this side hung on

in there. There was real composure. England had control then they

dropped off, then arrange arsenal smashed them for about ten minutes

and it was just amazing, they kept their composure. The England team

can move the ball because they have great players at 10, 12, 13, with

the pace in the back row, Hughes, Wilson Curry, they were fantastic.

That is a massive step up for the England team. That's such a big, big

bonus. We'll talk about Tom Curry in a moment. Let's hear from George

Ford. Your first feelings after the match?

Relief. That game swung both ways. We were up, we were losing,

Argentina were up, Argentina were losing - we just couldn't quite get

a grip of the game second half but managed to get lucky with Denny.

What a finish. We can't fault the effort there. The boys really put a

good shift in. It's important to start winning? Of course, yes. The

first game of the tour, it's always nice to start with a win. It will be

harder next week so we'll go back, we'll train hard and get better and

Ethiopiafully put in a better performance. New energy for the

team, the new guys? Brilliant, can't fault the effort. Running round

there like mad men. Fair play, it's a breath of fresh airplaying with

them boys who really took the opportunity today.

Great answer from George Ford there, "brilliant, mate". He's only 24 and

they are talking about the young ones. Yes. A sloppy start though?

It's expected. They don't know each other well at all. England coming

back off the loss against Ireland, they won the Championship, but they

had to bounce back like the Lions. Is the strength in-depth really what

we think it is? After that performance against a massive Puma

side, it's so uplifting? Also Also the stadium was bouncing. Andy said

something had to be done to quieten the crowd. It's a wonderful place to

play. It Takes Two sides and Argentina played really well. The

England team, the pace they played at, when they needed to, the pace

went up a level and this side couldn't live with it. To see the

fluidity of the play, especially with foshed again. Here we are.

England are going to win a trophy of some sword -- Ford again. Hartley is

getting used to this? The side keep on winning, full of

confidence, the momentum is on their side at the moment. It's Eddie

Jones. Is that winning mentality, isn't it? What he has injected into

the squad is continuing. Look how many, they don't have any

experience. It's not just the winning, it is how they are playing,

the fluidity, it is wonderful to watch. Great rugby. How often in the

Six Nations, you look at social media and newspaper reports, if it

has been a dull game, sometimes there's a lot of introspection about

where rugby is going but this is perfect evidence, when you have

ambition, Test match rugby can be brilliant. George Ford at fly half,

24 years old, out of breath giving that interview. Not many number tens

of out of breath afterwards but that game, the pace showed. Not surprised

when Argentina scored the first try. Started very powerfully and you

could see here, they've got good hands. This is the first try that

started the game. Great kick from Sanchez. You think maybe England are

in for a long game but they didn't give up. Starting off the try -fest.

The big night for Boffelli, test debut for him. Played in the rugby

under 20 Championships in 2013, 2014 and 20 15. The coach loved it. Great

start at home, getting the crowd behind them. Sloppy England in the

first few minutes and the Pumas capitalised. England fought back and

you talked about the composure to execute this try and get back into

the game. Great turnover. Genge, the loosehead from the Tigers, turning

the ball over. He had a wonderful game. Not his first cap. He was

immense. Great hands from Young Williams. It was amazing, Lozowski

does a great break. He knows where the space is coming, fought.

Composure on the ball, everyone looking to off-load. Jonny May

doesn't panic. Ford, off his left hand and the way he goes. Marland

Yarde, I'd say the second half brought him into the game. Great

score and it started from the turnover. Classy from George Ford,

encapsulate it by this pass. He sees it and he executes, he has the skill

set. Attack wise, he's brilliant. Excellence personified. In defence,

a bit weak but in that situation, under pressure with the expectation,

he delivered. Eight tries in 11th for Marland Yarde that made his

debut in Argentina Froch years ago. Everyone is going to love that

opportunity against a 16 stone prop, in quicksand. End-to-end stuff

wasn't it, Clive? It takes two teams, you could see Argentina

moving the game on but times it back to type. The really got some

fantastic players. -- they've really got. Nigel Owens is on the spot,

doesn't need a television match official. The power of the

Argentinian performance. In many ways they went away from that in the

second half and I'm surprised, it cost them the game. England toughed

it out. They have powerful guys. This is a team England will play in

the World Cup in a couple of years' time. A lot of lessons learned by

both teams. 20 stone, six feet seven, there is no stopping

Lavanini. Not even all three of us around this table! I'm ruling myself

out, I don't fancy my chances! Jonny May, is he going to be disappointed?

This moment of magic from Henry Slade. We talked about ten, 12 and

13, all of them fly-halves. They can see everything. They can play in a

way that expresses themselves and brings the rest of the backline into

play. That touch was so deft, beautifully balanced and Jonny May.

This was the highlight of the match. Henry Slade, what he did was world

class. He made the Argentinian defence just go and then to have the

confidence and ability to put the ball through for May to touch down.

Slade had a great game. In the context of the tour, we talked about

how big a challenge it is for Eddie Jones, shorn of some experienced

players. Jonny May, for example, he made his debut four years ago and

look where he is now. He was on this tour four years ago and got his

first cap, like many players. This is great for Eddie Jones, for a

coach to have head-to-head with somebody you are playing in two

years' time and go head-to-head, great. This is a massive bonus for

England, because of how they played. Some young players have really

stepped up to the mark. If you just tuned in, there are more tries to

come! Is a bit like a highlights show. Argentina, you're thinking

that they are under pressure, England, and they might lose it

here. Bouncing back the way they did in the second half. A three-minute

period when Argentina scored two tries. Solomona, not happy, he has

come on and he let them go past him. De la Fuente, scoring a wonderful

try. It was soft and the scramble didn't get there in time. And this

moment you could have expected a young inexperienced team to crumble

but they stayed in there. The defensive coach was having a good

chat with Solomona after this because he was defending in the

first channel position and he got too wide, creating the slip.

Argentina running inside straight line, unless you are square, you

have no chance. Disappointing to come on for your first start and you

have been run over. I was going to say, we know what happens at the end

of the game but if you are Denny Solomona, you're probably thinking

this is not what I wanted on my debut. No time to get used to the

pace of the game, you are a winger and then you are in that channel. He

must have done it in training. He has some involvement in the second

try, two minutes later. You think, can he bounce back, can England

bounceback? The nature of the game, to and throw. If the All Blacks

score this try, we talk about it being one of the best tries of the

evening. Sometimes you overemphasise the qualities but this is brilliant

hands from Argentina. Solomona was out of position, he couldn't get

back. We've seen the brilliance of the Pumas in the World Cup when they

got to the semifinals and they scored tries like this against

Ireland. We know what they're capable of and Tuculet was one of

the players of the tournament, his skill and pace and how he can see

everything. Magnificent, from your own 22, scoring like that, the

support is brilliant and it makes the drive. Solomona will be

disappointed. Heaslip there as well. We can criticise him -- he slipped

there. He's a rugby league player and he wasn't used to that. This was

a great score, amazing try. Great off-loading. They've learned this by

playing the best New Zealand and South African and Australian teams.

They are moving their game forward but they will be shattered losing

against England. It has been a game plan built on muscle previously but

they showed in the World Cup that they can throw it about and they

have got that by playing the best teams. Being in the Championship

tournament, they were not going to succeed by playing the old style so

the coaches and players have bought into, we must expand. Every team

knows you are not scoring two or three tries, you are unlikely to win

against the best teams and they've taken that on. We've seen the

benefits. England scored a fantastic try to get back in it and George

Ford, brilliant from him. You're just thinking, this could be the

moment, the turnover. Ford, the composure. That pass from Francis

was fantastic. Just an amazing try. Ford had one of those dream nights.

The defence, a lot of players would have kicked it away. He looked for

support and the handling was fantastic. We've not seen this from

England for a long time. Board showing real gas, -- George Ford

showing real gas. Did you think he would make it? No! You watch the

game today and in moments when the ball is turned over, some players

look lost but because you've got so many ballplayers in the backline of

England, particularly the inside channels, even when Francis comes

on, you've got another ballplayer replacing another and nothing is out

of sync, it's a continuation. That interplay, the association, they

read each other and knew what they were going to do. The linking was

fantastic. Clive, would you be furious, if you are the Argentina

coach and you went for a drop goal instead of eating up the clock? Yes,

it was one of those moments, as a team you should practice for this.

This is the gaming way, there's no need for the drop goal. They had the

penalty so they would get the three points. You've got to keep talking

to Nigel Owens, have we still got an bondage? You don't take the clock

down -- have you still got and granted? They had the drop goal.

Sanchez did a drop goal from 50 yards, why are you doing that? Big

decision from the Argentinian team that cost them dearly and England

took full advantage. Pressure, expectation, being at home. How come

this England team is still in with us? We should be many points ahead.

I think it weighed on them. Is it that or is it game management? Chris

Robshaw, the many decisions and conundrums he gave himself in the

autumn test a few years ago and in the Rugby World Cup. Game

management, you can again mistake once, but not twice. This is a very

experienced Argentina team, Hernandez is one of the most

experienced players in the world, and a very experienced coaching

team. Why would you do that? Even without rehearsing it, you think

you're going to score a try, run down the clock, the referee has his

arm out. The moment Nigel Evans said you're going to lose it, get three

points. It cost them the game. It's a mindset, for me, the sea change

was on 56 minutes, scoring a try, 15 minutes, they scored the try, they

are on the momentum, England on the back foot. 56 minutes, attacking, in

England's 22 and they go for the drop goal. They wipe out England if

they got five points and the conversion. England heads would have

dropped because that would be three tries in nine minutes and very

little chance of them coming back. The mindset of the Pumas changed on

56 minutes. Beautiful for England because here comes the fairy tale,

Denny Solomona. Astonishing end to the game. You look at the clock,

Launchbury, the skill level is fantastic. This is Boyzone star.

First cap for England and amazing finish -- boys own stuff. Fantastic

again, Francis Cummins here. That wasn't a missed tackle, he just

bounced him off. -- Francis, here. When you go to Eddie Jones in the

box, he isn't jumping around celebrating, he is screaming about

what is happening from the restart. He is thinking what he should be

doing which I don't think is happening to the Argentina coach.

The noise from Sale and the media about this guy coming across, he is

scoring tries from impossible situations, making magic. When he

took the ball, there were three Pumas around him, he bounced off and

away he goes. He still switches the ball from one hand to the other, and

away he goes. He's been scoring tries like that for Sale and is a

continuation. Eddie Jones described Solomona as a flying salmon before

the game and you wonder what he will say after. If you are Jack Nowell

and Elliot Daly, you are a little bit nervous as to mark you have seen

that his weakness is in defence. You need to be all-round in terms of

attack and defence in order to hold your position in the national team.

But he will score from anywhere, like we saw Chris Ashton a few years

ago, from 95 metres, five metres and this kid is the same. Daunting and

worrying for ever body else in the northern hemisphere if England are

stockpiling these wonderful players. That's not worry too much about

that! We'll take it. I think we are. You mentioned Jack Nowell and there

will be guys on the Lions tour, the Lions have a great winter and they

will be watching this game and seeing this and I just know from the

coaching point of view, you don't give away shirts is the and there

were some big performances from the English players. That's what it's

all about for Eddie Jones. Yes, you find out what you're made up in

certain situations and that's as hard as it gets, away from home

against the Pumas side who are playing fantastic rugby. I think

that the full strength team would have struggled and had a hard

encounter here and the Pumas may have raised their game more and even

beaten them but this was special for all involved. It appears that Eddie

Jones has unearthed another gem in Tom Curry, 18 years old. Your

assessment of his performance? Sheer bravery. Andy Robinson was watching

him closely, having played in his position and he was brave and tough.

They kept him on for a long time. We didn't see much of the ball in his

hand but what we saw at the bottom of the rock was fantastic and his

defence was fantastic. He is still only 18, imagine him in a few years

when he has put on a bit of bulk and speed and pace. Wonderful player.

Huge moment, I think he turned the ball over there. Great hit, turning

the ball over. It was a dream performance from him. Well done to

Eddie for having the bottle to put him in, into a very physical

confrontation. Not just a case of playing the 18-year-old. Jonny

Wilkinson at 18 was outside-half, where you can protect him but you

couldn't protect that guy and he will be battered and bruised but

what a wonderful day for him. He made around 12 tackles, missed one,

carried the ball half a dozen times. We can't forget that he's 18. He

could be overplaying in the under 20 World Cup but Eddie has plucked him,

bringing him in and he has held his own in the Premiership, shown he has

quality and it is continuing in the international level, which is great

news. What's even more amazing, Andy and Eddie spoke about it in

commentary, looking at the bench, Argentina's bench, real experience.

The England bench, 15 caps and that was Matt Mullan with 15 and the rest

of the seven had zero. I think they all came on. Hartley stayed on. He

brought them on. That was a big call because the Argentina bench was very

experienced and physical. I thought that might carry the game away from

England but England played the game perfectly well with the players they

had coming on and everybody did very well. A huge day for this group. The

good news is that they have another game in seven days' time, it isn't a

one-off. You aren't with us next week. I'm going to Argentina! Is a

Russell with the little insight pass to tailor, to Hoyland. Oh, boy! The

skills on offer. Behind the back flick. Opening them like a can of

beans. Ferguson, making those vital couple

of metres -- Fagerson. MBanda intercepting, giving it to

Campagnaro. Could this be a try? It is. Campagnaro. Loose play from the

Scots, the Italians getting their first try of the game, from

Campagnaro. The Italians have come alive from the turnover, their best

two players. Campagnaro has been heavily involved, he is a threat

with the ball in hand. Combining with MBanda to give them their first

try. Good scrum. Oh, something happened off the ball.

We just saw a player being tossed up in the air. What we've got, after

the whistle was blown, 20 lifting him up, passing the horizontal,

leaving him in a dangerous position. It is a yellow card. You've got to

protect the players. That's the bottom line of international rugby.

Steyn. You've got to be really careful. Horne, hit hard, this time

by Gega. Hoyland, the little pass, Gregor Townsend is delighted.

Another try as Hoyland sneaks in. Excellent, control under a lot of

pressure. The Italians coming really quickly. The last play of the game.

The Italians. The big replacement, Benvenuti is on. Penalty, they will

if that is a score by the Italians. Esposito. 81 minutes on the clock

and the Italians are robbing a little bit of salt into the Scottish

wounds. You can see Taylor and Hughes coming in to take the same

man. The ball is in the air for a long time. Taylor has tried to

overreach the play to shut him down but Esposito does well. Gregor

Townsend, the new Scotland coach, says it feels slightly unreal to be

the Scotland coach but a good start for him. Excellent, I'm pleased for

him. Unlike quite a few coaches he has really earned his stripes, doing

the hard yards. I think that the Scottish players have looked forward

to him taking over the team. They will be disappointed to concede the

try at the end but Italy, a port side today but Scotland were very

good. As a Scottish fan I would be very hopeful that they have some

good players coming through. Let's go back to Argentina and hear from

Eddie Jones. A week ago, we could sit and enjoy it. Could you? Not

really. A great result but disappointed with the performance,

giving them too many points but what we did show, Aiton of real team

ethic today. The young guys coming in, a difficult situation, chasing

the game and doing their job brilliantly. The other thing I like,

young guys made mistakes but they didn't dwell on them, they got on

with the next thing, like Solomona, making two horrific defensive misses

but scored a brilliant try. That was great. You must be pleased for him

because he may have been thinking that he wouldn't get a chance to

show what he can do. 100%. That's when you know that you've got

players who are worth persevering with, when they bounce back.

Everyone has a bad game or does a bad thing, it is the ability to

rebound that is important. Was there the sensible Eddie Jones who

thought, let's just nailed the game somehow or did you get carried away?

No, I wanted to kick into the corners! But the way that they play,

they take risks and that gives you the chance to score tries. Two sides

to it. It opens up the game completely. Next week it might be

much tighter. I think the referee did a great job. When you came to

England did you ever think you would be leading a team that plays like

that in such a short space of time? That was always the dream, I've

always thought England had good players and I'm even more impressed

by the youth coming through. Our aim is not to play like that every week,

we want more control but if we get chances to use the ball, we want to

use the ball. Well done, Eddie, it was fabulous. It was, indeed. Love

hearing from Eddie Jones. And the second test, make a date
