Argentina v England Rugby Union

Its arid, it's dry, ready-made for rugby. England against the Pumas of

Argentina. Sensational try. Ten young guys coming. Winner against

prop and the winger is the clear winner. England had good players and

I'm the even more impressed now by the youth coming through. Big blast,

took a while but it has truly come to life. Brilliant buys Slade,

lilting forward, and Jonny May get them first. De La Fuente in support,

he scores, what a game this is. Argentina's lead grows. Brilliant

try. Good support from Slade. Ford has the pace to go all the way.

England strike back on this game. Our aim is not to play like that

every week, we want more control. The drop goal, up goes Nigel Owens's

hand. Argentina take the lead. This has been one of the games of the

season, one of the games of many a year. The power of Solomona, he will

score, remarkable. England have seized the game.

Remarkable it was, Solomona's dazzling try saw a much changed

England edged a victory in an epic encounter against Argentina last

week. With the Lions with a host of injuries Eddie Jones is deprived of

30 players. It caps to ten debutants last week and this week he makes

three changes from the team that scored four tries against the Pumas,

the most headline grabbing the inclusion of former captain Chris

Robshaw. Last week Argentina were a constant threat in attack, good

value for their four tries and today they are looking to avenge their

last-minute defeat. They made just one change. Welcome to the

programme, Saturday Night Live rugby on the BBC, you cannot beat it, we

hope for another cracking encounter. There are 143 England caps in the

studio this evening -- caps. Jeremy Guscott and Brian Moore, Brian,

great to see you, how you feeling? Lucky to be here are many ways but

all the more welcome because of that. Feeling better with an England

win? Looking forward to it, yes. More of the same? It was interesting

to listen to Eddie Jones's quote, our aim is not to play like this

every week. I can see there must have been tension for him with the

game being so close them Solomona scoring, but when you have players

like Ford, Slade and Francis, they are more apt that playing a more

open game rather than a structured game, hitting the gain line. They

want to lose that use their skills. Eddie Jones on radio 5Live last

night said it wasn't a game of rugby but not as much fun for him as us

watching in the studio. I can imagine. More than happy watching

that game every week, it was fantastic, really open, probably to

open for a coach but defensively they need to tweak it a little

because they are sloppy. Tom Curry, fantastic debut last week,

celebrated his 19th birthday this week, dropped from the squad. Do you

understand what Eddie is trying to do? Yes I do. Underhill needs a run

out. They have 30 players who aren't here who also have claims, there is

limited time he has even though we seem a long way from World Cup,

there are very few games. It is unfortunate for him but he is a boy

for the future and will to your. He has shown he can play at this level

and his future is ahead of him and looks bright. We will talk about the

Lions and their performance today, and also what has happened with

Warren Gatland calling up players for Wales and Scotland causing

social media debate. But a night for Chris Robshaw May be to show gallon

what he is made of. Chris is 31, we know what he can do. What he does is

performs at a high level every single game, doesn't drop behind it.

A consistent player is worth his weight in gold for a coach and the

team. You don't see the Flash, Hollywood stuff from Chris, but he

has Duracell batteries in his engine and will go the full 80 and be a --

is strong in the second half of the first. He grinds on grinds and you

want on alongside you in the trenches. There has also been talk

about Underhill, a big night for him. He had his opportunity at

Twickenham against the Barbarians and lasted 20 minutes. Look at the

size of his back, we expect big things, a lot of debate about him.

He has moved to Bath and hopefully will go well. Tonight in an England

shirt to get his first cap, expect big things of him. Eddie Jones is

stockpiling all these young players at the moment, an exciting time to

be an England fan. He said he wants contention from three players in

every position, and when you get that you are in a good situation. He

is not far for it in the vast majority, which augurs really well

for English rugby. Let's hear from Eddie Jones talking to the host

broadcaster. Thanks for your time. After last week's game did you

change anything from your game from last week or will it be similar?

It's a different referee, so different ground, different

conditions, so we will alter things slightly. Knots of things, you

cannot tell anyone? We can't talk with them. The set piece will be

important. Against Argentina the set piece is always important. Do you

expect something different from Argentina? I think they might focus

more on the old-style Argentinian rugby. Every time they get a chance

to scrum, scrum long, maybe more little more, but in phase play I

think we will see what we have seen in the last three four years. Last

one, are you happy you didn't receive a call from New Zealand?

Look, I am disappointed my players have been called up but they are

playing for England so it is a good second prize. Thank you very much. A

reminder, we will talk about the Lions very shortly. We can't wait to

get stuck into that. Eddie Jones says he will end this test is

halfway through a four-year project, it is all about the World Cup and

going to plan so far. Certainly is, they have only one game in the last

19 through design, some through injury, missing 30 players but it

has allowed him to see how deep the talented. We saw it last week, and

let's face it, they acquitted themselves really well. We know

about their talent. Someone told but in terms of these guys, on the bench

last week, the only person with any experience was Mullen, but they came

on really well, Collier in the scrum I thought was outstanding, is I

quick, great for him, but Underhill we spoke about, Lozowski will be

disappointed not to be involved, and Maunder has a huge feature ahead of

him, break -- played brilliantly for Exeter. Probably the worst and best

debut for Solomona stop blue he is into a new system, a new game. The

tries he has scored this season have been wonderful and he has continued

that in the scoring side of the game. His defence wasn't great, he

was appalling, but you forget about that a little when he scores the

tries at the quality he does. Eddie Jones said in the interview last

night on radio 5Live, after the match, I said -- he said he and

Denny were going shopping. You are right, he didn't defend well but

farewell he redeemed himself. I hope if he comes on and have a positive

impact it is not going to wipe out his defence. He wasn't taken down by

the poor defensive effort. When he had the opportunity he had the

minerals to take it which is brilliant but he has a lot to learn

in rugby union. Let's look at the Argentina team, a single change to

the starting line-up for this second test, Moyano starting on the right

wing in place of Moroni who drops to the bench. His first start against

hemisphere side. Do you expect fireworks? I think they will try to

play with more control. The half-backs are experienced, in the

back row huge experience and a lot of caps. I think at times they lost

control... Having put the tries over England they needed them to control

the game better than they did. Whilst they will still play

expansive rugby I think they will look to exert that control through

those five players. Also worth noting, Ugo, that they have been

watching the Lions because it is Eddie's goal to be the number one

team in the world. Yes, and they are looking for more of the same

tonight. It is the second test, Argentina

against England, fantastic atmosphere, let's say good evening

to our commentary team, Andy Robinson and Eddie Butler.

COMMENTATOR: The team is being shown, and all change in the back

row bar Nathan Hughes, the Rock, Chris Robshaw, the glue is back,

Underhill, the youngster at 20 back from injury. Danny Care and George

Ford, Ford, 23 points in the first test last week. Danny Care, second

most experienced member of the side, 73rd cap today. Piers Francis comes

into the starting line-up in place of Lozowski. Guile rather than grunt

Argentina against England in Santa Fe. Ford goes long. Boffelli, the

immediately involved. In contact. Not a great deal of length therefrom

Tuculet, but a sign on the wind, it has been swirling, good afternoon,

Andy Robinson. Yes, there is a little bit of wind out there,

looking forward to seeing England put structure in their phase played

today. Down off the top from Launchbury, a change of tactic and

the ball bounces, they have found space. Moyano involved. Sanchez,

straight down the middle. Ford, back for England, the outside-half.

Sanchez from his opposite number. There is space there. Brown comes

across. Inside his 22. It is a good clearance by Mike Brown. Brown did

really well there to cover England. Just one man back in the backfield

and Sanchez saw the space, kicked into that space, both sides using

the kicking option at the moment, trying to get a feel for the game,

some early hits in. Creevy, who is massively worked. Williams wearing

three for England, through on the loose ball. Scrum down. Argentina

put it. John Lacey the referee. It was an important battle ground, the

scrum, always important when you play against Argentina. You will is

getting up, knocking the ball on as he went to contest, that is why it

is a scrum -- Ewels knocking on. Both looking at getting the bind

right. Robshaw hasn't played for six months in a Test match. Played

against the Barbarians. Here is an echo of the first test, an epic

game, but began with so many reset scrimmages. Both sides trying to

fill each other out, the front row is working hard. Scrummaging very

low there, England, trying to counteract the power of the

Argentinian front row. Williams with the scrum. Hartley in the middle,

Ellis Genge on the far side. Landajo to feed the scrum.

Very solid for Argentina, forward they go. Leguizamon picks up. Still

going. Hughes wrote that out of the way cleverly. Sanchez, as Eddie

Jones predicted, Argentina kicking a little more. Follow-up tackle by De

La Fuente. Orlando came up hard on the tackle, as did Desio. First

penalty. The Argentina coach there. Argentina struggled in the contact

area early last week. We see them here coming from the side to kick

the ball out. A cheap penalty to give away by Argentina, giving away

field position and possession. Allows England to settle. George

Ford puts it into Argentina's 22. The new wing, Moyano. Hartley safely

through the hands. Nathan Hughes, breaks the first tackle. If Joe

Launchbury can stretch out... And gives the pass, and it is a try.

Simple, simple play, Charlie Ewels giving a brilliant support line off

Nathan Hughes, great power running through. Looking at Charlie Ewels,

as he went over, looking a bit strange, great work, Nathan Hughes.

Coming up, Launchbury, Ewels on his shoulder, does he hurt himself

there? Excellent to see Launchbury and Ewels working so closely

together. As he scored the try he just hits the post. England won some

structure in their game, get the power running. Ford has the

conversion. Great start for England. The depth of Launchbury's carry,

being aware of Ewels in support. Both those players played really

well last week. Delight on his face then the Greenwich afterwards --

grimace afterwards. Argentina have to restart. Sanchez... Changes play,

sends it high. Piers Francis. Theory here, it has

gone silent. The crowd hurt by that first score, Argentina under real

pressure to score -- it is creepy here, the crowd has gone silent.

Advantage being played, back to Landajo. Matera shrugs off Hughes,

on the wrong side now, no advantage. Penalty against Charlie Ewels, the

try scorer! Technical penalty, trying to stop them all, gets in

very early then comes in at the side. -- stop the small. Sanchez

down into the England 22. It's still a good attacking position. The

figure at the front, Lavanini. Alemanno and Leguizamon, the other

scrum cap wearer, number eight. It is Lavanini. England trying to get

Argentina towards the touchline, away comes Lavanini. Landajo. De La

Fuente. Promising from Argentina, penalty, no arms in the tackle.

Penalty advantage being played. Landajo. Here is Moyano. Argentina

to within a Yarde and a half. Landajo wants it, Matera -- Matera

outside him. They come instead through the three quarters. And they

score. Straight back. Tuculet opens Argentina's account. Absolute

fireworks in this game. Starting the game as they finished last week,

Argentina getting powerful carries, great footwork of Tuculet, runs

between Brown and Yarde, scores a great try. Straight back into it.

Sanchez, who last week passed 500 points for Argentina.

Adds a few more to the tally. And we are all square in Santa Fe is. That

will have settled Sanchez. You can see the difference, the real

physical carries, Hartley penalised for no arms, just using his

shoulder. You can see at this contact comes in, just puts his

shoulder in, he was going to get penalised by that -- for that by the

referee. It is Pieretto, and in the warm up, they were using the tight

head prop Pieretto a lot. Escaped down the touchline by Boffelli.

Danny Care gets up, in discomfort from the contact. Matera out to make

good game in San Juan, and Genge to Launchbury, Launchbury... Well, it

was nearly his second try scoring pass, it went forward, England have

another penalty, Hartley slows everything down. Says, let's go for

the posts. Three outstanding hits from the England forwards, doubling

up in the tackle, one low, one hi, knocking the physical Argentine

ball-carriers backwards. George Ford, Knox penalties and

conversions over from all angles and distances last week. Danny Care,

Landajo, not ten metres! Play on, both scrum-halves seeking guidance

from the referee. Over it goes. George Ford two out of

two, Argentina 7-10 England. A little bit of wind just holding the

ball up. Argentina playing with the wind currently. Sanchez pulls

everybody back a few paces, then goes long. Mike Brown.

The important thing for England today is that they work hard on the

discipline. They cannot give cheap penalties away. They know Argentina

will come hard at them all -- at the maul. They have to try to defend

this maul legally. Creevy finds Desio. Leguizamon turns the driving

maul into a ruck, Creevy weights. Support from his prop, Noguera.

Leguizamon again, shall decide Care, Moyano, Landajo -- Leguizamon shoves

aside Danny Care. It is not all about running around, there is huge

contact, and it has spilled out of the tackle. Solid defending by

England. Nathan Hughes. Much better discipline from England. Argentina,

you watch this real power step from Leguizamon, Knox Danny Care over.

George Ford on the defensive line holding his ground and winning the

turnover. Argentina trying to keep the ball at the short side again,

they attack their last week. Two number eight, last to go down

Hughes and Leguizamon, interesting, Leguizamon trying to ask the crowd

to be quiet as Ford prepared the penalty. Few are more difficult

things to do in rugby than keep an Argentine crowd quiet! They are very

excitable, which is great for rugby, isn't it? To hear the crowd get so

involved, so passionate for their rugby.

There is more work for the referee to do at the scrummage. Nigel Owens

on the far side, and England have been penalised, so, anti-. I am not

sure what they have been penalised for, working the gaps, and they were

talking about the gaps. One thing Lacey said to the England team is to

make sure they don't put weight forward on the setup. Looking at the

bind, they have been pushing that bind forward.

The upshot is that Sanchez has a chance to level the score.

It goes wide. Flag stayed down. England's lead remains three. Time

out. REFEREE: We need to check that.

Nigel Owens is underneath the posts. Felt it had to be checked. Here we

go. Not much in that. I would say that

has gone through. Wow. It goals depends when it crosses... Penalty

in the end is awarded! Apologies to Nicolas Sanchez from everybody I

suppose. The kick is good. And we are all square. We had just about

everything a game of rugby could offer last week, we didn't have

Really good territorial gain. The pledge is only 94 metres long. Using

the surplus of that pitch to give Argentina the possession and the

entry. Another technical penalty for England. They are allowing Argentina

to win the ball on the front of the line-out and then trying to fit it

into touch. Alternative penalty in the middle of the field. All of side

says John Lacey. This is an easier kick for Sanchez. The ball hasn't

left the line-out, the bags have to stay back ten metres. They didn't. A

little bit of fun and games on the floor. Collapsed malt. Robshaw

doesn't have to roll away. He can stay there. Two penalties given.

Firstly for side entry per Chris Robshaw and secondly for the bikes

encroaching ten metres bid with the ball had left the line-out. England

giving away a couple of technical penalties. One at the scrum and two

at the line-up so far. The touch judges will be more vigilant than

ever. That looks good. The crowd says so. Argentina having gone 7-0

down are now 13-10 in front. Very good response from Argentina. Coming

to England's ill discipline. Important they are very disciplined

in this game. High towards Boffelli. Orlando the centre rows in front. It

could have led to trouble. Good ground made by the hooker and the

All Argentina already upped the ten metre line. Tuculet still going.

Great run by the full-back. Was there a high tackle? The touch judge

will have a look at that. I think he has alerted Nigel Owens to it. Jonny

May. He was back for England, but is the referee?

He carried very strongly, Tuculet. Marland Yarde in with the high

tackle. The England captain Dylan Hartley

has been warned. High tackle. Penalty for Argentina. No ball on

the field at the moment. England just dropping off they tackled

there. Harry Williams missing one, Danny Care missing one, Joe

Launchbury. Sanchez Mike puts it to within 18 metres. Tuculet running

through Sam Underhill. Marland Yarde coming in at the side and going in

height. -- hi. Clearly wants to take his time. The referee once the ball

in. The players swoop around Lavanini. They have to get the ball

back. Have England get their hands on the ball? Excellent work. Chris

Robshaw has stolen the ball for England. Robshaw wins the ball.

Great defensive work from Robshaw at the front of the line-out. And

Charlie Yuill is getting through. -- Ewels. They can exert some

pressure in their own 22. Both sides of the scrum looking to gain an

advantage. Argentina will try to get forward as the ball is put in. Put

England on the back foot. Argentina go for the surge, scrum

turns. Referee allows played to go on but it is lit. The whistle has

gone, Ellis Genge. Huge pressure by Argentina. England will have to face

it again immediately. Great pressure. This is what playing in

Argentina is about. Argentina won the turnover. A little not gone from

Leguizamon in the tackle. Agustin Creevy good little football skills

at the end. England tried to go forward on the central.

Argentina, they love, if we can see that ankle again, you can see the

whole scrum the work, as they come down. They all pull their arms in

together. They all work together. It is a real nine man operation.

Landajo has a huge part to play with it. Inside looking out. This is very

much the world within the world. It is a penalty for England. A

technical penalty by Pieretto. You have got to scrum square. John Lacey

judging that the angle was inside Ellis Genge onto Dylan Hartley which

is why the scrum went backwards. George Ford provides the extra

relief. Enrique period to. -- Pieretto that was easy to give. He

has got to get his hips square. Joe Launchbury with the catch. England

go sideways and then forwards. Nathan Hughes hasn't had much to run

onto yet, the big number eight. Danny Care, did that get in touch,

Boffelli. A good follow-up tackle by Launchbury. Here is the other second

row Lavanini on the other side, Sanchez gets the boot to it and it

bubbles away from Danny Care, Mike Brown there to launch a

counterattack. Good tackle on him by Alemanno. England suddenly with the

chance to run up to halfway through the captain Dylan Hartley. Turnover

for Argentina. Penalty is won by Argentina.

strong in there. The right call from John Lacey. I think you can call

Agustin Creevy and express of Captain! -- expressive captain.

The front rows and referee talking scrummaging. Sanchez just thinks

about accuracy. And sort of failed the test a little bit, just pulled

it wide. England are only three points down, still in this game,

under huge pressure at the moment. A really good test for them.

Leguizamon read it well because that was coming out of the sun at him.

Landajo waits and finds Tomas Lavanini. Sanchez. He ducks, darts

and goes. Mike thumping tackle. I think it is Harry Williams who made

the tackle. Somehow Argentina have managed to regain possession.

Sanchez tests Aik Brown, the full-back took it well. Gets half

through the tackle. Genge. There has been plenty of running but the

tackling has been ferocious as well. Care, Yarde follows up with the

tackle. Just seeing Chris Robshaw at his very best. Great tackled by Sam

Underhill on the kick chase and Robshaw comes so fast to win the

turnover. England winning that territory battle. Really good chase.

Tuculet catches the ball, Marland Yarde, look at the speed of

Underhill, two back row forwards getting in really fast, really good

territory gained by England. Great technique employed.

George Ford. It's a lovely old stadium. It is now named after a

general from the Wars of independence, the war that followed

to make Argentina that sort of Federal Republic that it is now.

Ford likes it. Touch judges like it. The scoreboard is level. 13 points

apiece. George Ford just continuing on from last week, exemplary kicking

performance. The difference between the two fly-halves is the accuracy

of Ford's goal-kicking. Sanchez. Piers Francis, we haven't seen much

of the England midfield yet. Argentina have had a lot of

possession since the start. Leguizamon has had lots to do, Harry

Williams has felt the heat in the scrum. That is how we expected

Argentina to come out. We expected them to a physical and they have

been in the contact areas, a good kicking game, England have been ill

disciplined which is not allowed them to have the ball. Boffelli,

Mike Brown Reddit beautifully. Brown on his own. Frist up in support!

Francis is there! Brilliant by England! Majestic by Mike Brown. His

timing onto that kick was sensational and then to have the

presence of mind to run, Sanchez going for the crossfield kick but

watch Brown in the air, fantastic and watched his running line. Space

in the five metre channel. Piers Francis runs a superb support line.

One-handed off-load, rate work to score the try. Mike Brown changed

his line but Piers Francis changed his, read the pass will. Creative

space in the channel to stop the Argentine defence come across to

make the tackle on Brown. What a game again! Fantastic, it just goes

on and on. George Ford having had a kick to level the scores almost

immediately as one to put England up to 20 points and a converted try

clear, which is some reply. Will it curl? No, it won't.

England's new lead stands at five points. An interesting tactic from

Argentina. They have been using their power runners to good effect,

but Brown timed that perfectly and just watch how he sets up Tuculet,

allows Francis great support line in the corner. Back in action. Jonny

May takes the cake. -- kick. Nigel Owens, who refereed last week,

has swapped with John Lacey. Lacey the man in the middle.

Ortega Desio again the target, Argentina, mistake, they won't want

England to have a full advantage. So we come back to the scrum. That was

a really good running line from Ortega Desio. Unfortunately for

handling skills. The ball was fired at him, the pass, creating the

knock-on. We seek Leguizamon, fired that pass to Matera. They want to

bring Matera into the game, but it seems he is a slow starter. It is

not the any more, nearly into the last moments of the first half. Time

has shot by. George Ford with a variation, that has gone very high,

taken by Tuculet. Tuculet did well to present, Sanchez Way back in his

22, but Matera on hand. Better by the wing forward. Allows the captain

to make a yard. Orlando can't get past Hartley. Landajo takes his

time. Sanchez is going to put a boot to it. Straight down the middle,

very deliberate by Sanchez. Jonny May. Tuculet didn't make the mark.

Did go for touch this time. England are putting a lot of pressure on

Sanchez and trying to stop him from kicking, really working hard to get

charge downs. That is forcing Sanchez just to change his mind a

bit, not getting the accurate kicking that he would like to imply.

Hartley quite happy to get on with the game quickly. Charlie Ewels the

try scorer. Here is Sam Underhill, little chance for the new wing

forward to have a blast. Harry Williams surges clear. Up to the 22.

Charlie Ewels docs it. A rare mistake by the buyer second row.

Smart play by Danny Care attacking the Argentine forwards around the

rock, attacking the near side of the ruck. Charlie Ewels, a really good

low-power tackle. Ellis Genge looks on, just paused

while Lucas Noguera Paz some attention. That was a really good

scrum. Some really good height. Just as the ball came into they all sang

together to stop the Argentine push driving them backwards. -- they all

sang together. Noguera back to his feet. Good crowd

here in Santa Fe, very much part of the new Argentine approach, to take

the Pumas around the country and not just play all their tests in one as

I raise. Now they go all over there huge country, from the far West to

Santa Fe. Argentina tried to generate more

shove, John Lacey gets them to hurry up. George Ford with the tackle.

Lavanini to Creevy, England read that as well. Sanchez back in the

pocket where we go this time. Towards Mike Brown. Jonny May off

his wing in close support of Brown. The young England forwards just

knocking the ball on in the tackle, some really big physical heads

coming in from all the Argentine defenders, but good to see Brown and

may working hard together. Another low tackle. And Underhill just

spilling the ball as he hit the floor. Let's go, says John Lacey.

One and a half minutes to go. The Argentine scrum has been going

forward. John Lacey has made them play the ball away from it, good

defensive technique by England. Free kick, Argentina. Landajo took

it quickly. Ortega Desio in support. Lavanini, Sanchez didn't get a hand

to it, play on. De la Fuente. Get past Danny Care, de la Fuente, a

resurgent Argentina on the stroke of half-time. Noguera drives it on.

Sanchez. Crossing, crossing, he was coming off his wing. An injury back

in the own have. Clear and obvious from Lavanini. Alemanno going in

STUDIO: And remember it was 17-13 to Argentina at half-time last weekend

and you know what happened at that. Ryan Moore we had a try -fest,

heading that way again. I said last week it was a gloriously flawed game

and it is the same here. England starting very well. It could have

been even better. Very well-organised first try then it

kept Argentina in the game by three or four success of unnecessary

penalties and actually Jones will be very pleased that the experience of

Brown and Ford behind and Rob Short and Launchbury capped England in the

lead. I love it, gloriously flawed, however it is very entertaining,

Ugo. It certainly is. Six times England gave possession away early

doors but it was great for them to get into the game in terms of the

game plan but defensively poor last week and conceding four tries, this

week they have missed 11 tackles that will be a key fix. Looking at

the stats Argentina have had a lot of the ball. Yes, they haven't made

the most of it. The game has so much momentum. When you have that much

possession and territory, they had at four minute period where England

were under the cosh and they conceded penalties and one or two

penalties and they missed one and that gave the moment and England has

slowly clawed their way back into this second-half. Let's take a look

at some of the big moments. Charlie Ewels getting his first try for

England. I love this simplicity, it is beautiful. Carrie, keep the ball

alive. Quick ball is what everybody wants. They have come from the

second row, Launchbury and Ewels and they are powerful tall guys. This is

so clean, it is simple basic rugby and attacks in space and they come

with pace. Always going to be difficult to defend against.

They will be frustrated how they started last week and they couldn't

have kept it simpler. Simple try. It is tit for tat, Ugo, because

Argentina comes stalking back. , defensively poor. I think Yarde

should be blitzing. He can't be hovering like that. That is not the

aggressive press we know in English rugby but fair play to Argentina,

they bounced back well and it was simple, Tuculet outstanding last

week, finished well. The Pumas are showing us what they can do. How

many times have we seen teams not be precise and decide what to do? Last

week they took it short and smashed it over and at least this week they

had Sanchez and space to running. Yesterday the defence was passive,

but at least they had the ambition to go for it. Have you seen a

dramatic improvement in Argentina, being five metres out and able to

execute. Perhaps a few years ago we wouldn't have seen that. They called

it early, normally that is a last option when they have been battering

the line. They think, we might as well. This time it was only two or

three phases in and they saw the gap and have the confidence to do that.

The Ugo have been doing a lot of that in Super Rugby and it shows. --

the Jaguares. If Eddie Jones wants England better than they will backs

you cannot afford to miss opportunities. We saw evidence of

that the other day from New Zealand. This is what Danny Care does best,

get tempo into the game. They moment they get over the advancing line,

this is exactly what they do, then it is down to execution. That is

four on one, three on the end with Launchbury, Genge, catch, pass,

should be a simple try. Simplicity in the game takes you from being

number two to number one in the world. The signs of a side coming

together and not knowing each other well because Francis there, the new

boy, should have got Launchbury and Genge out of the way and boss the

situation. Let him use his footwork and trickery and big passing, but

when you get forwards in the way they think they are bags, they are

not! Get out of the way, Brian! LAUGHTER There is a lot George will

be pleased about -- Jones will be pleased about a first half. When

England have possession they have looked threatening and if you can

create things, you are in better position than scrapping when things

are ill disciplined. You have the situation where they need to be more

precise and exact. You have been frustrated by England's mistakes. Of

course because we want perfection. We are not moaning. We are moaning!

But for the right reason. This is a flare-up, you understand that but

the problem is they give the penalty away. Another one here, the wrong

side. This is on the ten metre line, it is not going anywhere, you can

afford to give them five metres here. The old adage, you cannot

defend kicks at goal. You are right. What we see is a succession of

penalties, painting the wrong picture in the referee's mind. This

is Yarde, pressure on pressure and pressure, or within five minutes,

they have given away free needless penalties, and that allows... They

are between the ten metre line is, not an extremist. You have to giving

them credit, they have scored wonderful tries on this tour. Yes,

the last try is amazing in itself, although... And off-load is still a

pass, give him that much. The pass here from the Pumas not executed to

well. Brown has read it very well, stepped the defence and move the

defence so there is space for Francis to come through. He did

brilliantly to get there in support. Mike Brown as safe as houses in the

air. He will be disappointed that Corey Allen in New Zealand instead

of himself. He is showing what he can do. The ability to turn defence

into attack but also the dexterity to get the off-load away and

France's scores his first England try. He did it again because last

week he had "Go with Ford and this week he is the scorer. The beauty of

that is Brian has been criticised for not passing a lot of his career

but what he has done there is drag the defence infield and Francis has

We haven't seen an angry Argentina, we expect a backlash but they have

been angry. They are feeling pressure. The season has been

performances. They need to get bored of one another, they pay in the

inspiration yet. Argentina have plateaued. We saw them burst into

championship helped ring them to another level but ten losses from

the last 12, terrible defeat last week, no pun sure-fire today, we

hope to see better in the second half. From an English perspective

more of the same. Danny Care said after last week, I have not played

like that for a long time, a fast game. He might be saying the same

thing at the end of this game, saying I have not played like this

since last week? Eddie Jones will just want more control. When England

get awed at -- organised they look capable side. Let's take you back to

Santa Fe, and this stadium by the way is known as the Elephant's

Graveyard take it away. COMMENTATOR: It is, it comes from

the world of football but applies to rugby as well. Argentina haven't

lost here. They beat Ireland in 2007 and Italy a couple of years ago.

Alemanno. He rumbles and rolls through a couple of tackles, the big

away. Ellis Genge. Matera tries to hold him off the ground. Genge sets

Oops! Argentina have to regroup. England steal it through Chris

Robshaw. Jonny May. Couldn't pick it up first time, goes backwards to go

around, Ford, long to Henry Slade. Mike Brown.

Oh, beautiful angle run by Robshaw. Ford. Switches play. Genge, gets a

really good pass away to Slade, but it was knocked on. Argentina trying

to play out from their own half, trying to find some rhythm, but they

can't get it going because of the really good England defence. If

England can start well in this first ten minutes they could blow away

this Argentine side. They lack confidence with the ball in hand.

You see hardly getting the pass away to Genge, Genge looking up, just a

knock-on, contact by Slade. We saw an outstanding pass and running line

from Robshaw there, brilliant pass from Ford. We didn't see a lot of

that in the first half, important to see that in the second half.

Leguizamon finds Landajo. There could be numbers here. Sanchez.

Landajo with a show and go. Orlando, not held, it carries on, brilliant

to Leguizamon. Robshaw just the once down to the wing, advantage being

played, Argentina, their best passage of play in the entire game,

can it lead to something? Landajo with another sweet little pass to

the scrum-half. It is all about the advantage now. Argentina have been

stopped slightly. Delicately played. Argentina have to be careful. We are

still playing the advantage. Sanchez knew what he was doing. The

advantage for the high tackle by Mike Brown stopping right at the

end, as good full-backs do, just got his timing slightly wrong, got it

high. England work hard to get behind the defence. They are showing

their fitness after the made by De La Fuente.

Good support play, as you said. Orlando carrying well. Great flowed

through to Leguizamon. He has carried strongly. Not many people

bash Robshaw out of the way. Brown just got his timing wrong. England

were then able to slow up Argentina which meant they kicked the ball

away. Sanchez, missed with his last penalty attempt. Will want to get

this. Oh, he's pushed that horribly wide. Oh! Six points go begging from

his last two kicks. The gap, five points.

Was that another high tackle? Nigel Owens... Argentina through Lavanini,

seem to think it was high. Jonny May and Lavanini still at it.

Apologies for the rightness of the language! -- the ripeness of the

language. Lacey just wants to check the original tackle which was the

spark point. It seems as if it just went high, Jonny May comes in. It is

a high tackle. There is ducking into the tackle. Clear and obvious.

Moyano, and because Jonny May doesn't let him go this might be

yellow. Oh, no, just a penalty. John Lacey the coolest head out there. As

I say, Creevy is expressive! The first bit of real emotion we have

seen their from the Argentine side. Sanchez down the line. Now, while

their blood is boiling and while they have a territorial advantage,

they really should be looking to get something out of this. We have a

replacement on the Argentine side as they lose the ball then fight to get

it, Guido Petti is on. Now, Chaparro on the front row,

Guido Petti in the second. Chaparro played at tight head last week,

comes on loosehead this week. Petti coming on early in the second row,

had a good game for Argentina in that second half last week.

Desio and Robshaw the wing forwards on the near side.

Eddie Jones looks pretty cool, as well. Five points, his team's lead.

Ellis Genge. Change your behaviour or you go in the bin, yellow card,

you understand? Pieretto singled out, last chance. A warning to the

two young props. Nobody wants to give an inch, Genge is certainly not

giving an inch. Pieretto constantly putting his knee on the floor. It is

important that he keeps that up otherwise he will be penalised by

John Lacey. Argentina try to get the second shove on. It's gone sideways.

It has been dropped. Lacey says get on with it. England get the

turnover. Yarde has knocked it on. The Argentine scrum will be

frustrated, they feel they are on the front foot going forward but

Lacey is calling the ball out as is right and Argentina make another

substitution. Herrera comes on. Ramiro Herrera comes on instead of

Enrique Pieretto. So the Pumas front row hasn't got any smaller. Here is

the new man, Herrera. Always frustrating for a forward pack when

you are going forward and the ball is dropped in the Centre for the

first phase attack. We had a surge by Argentina, but

this opening ten minutes of the second half has been a scrappy old

business. Argentina go for the big drive. England give, then Nathan

Hughes manages to pick up and come away with it. Henry Slade has lost

the ball. Orlando passes world Tuculet. Tuculet runs into Joe

Launchbury. Argentina line-up the big forwards. Matera. And then kick

again. Jonny May was back safely enough. The crowd felt that was

forward from Jonny May to Ford. Now, this could go all the way. Very well

judged by George Ford. Now kicking downwind. Not much of its. A great

way to relieve pressure, just to kick the ball straight at the posts.

Luckily it is only a seven metre goal area, in-goal area, luckily the

ball did stop dead. Allowing England to get the possession back now from

this 22 restart. Sanchez, long. Nathan Hughes.

Francis. That one doesn't come off. Surging through, the bounce is

all-important, the bounce is going to work in their favour! Spectacular

kick from Francis, just charged down. Matera under pressure after

the first test, scores in the second. You see this tackle on the

short side, nothing on for Francis, he tries to kick the ball through,

showing great footballing skills, Matera gets over the line.

Just a slight change of momentum there to get Argentina on the front

foot. He knows it! Oh! Under instructions to get more involved.

And the delicate football skills as well to go with the raw power and

strength. Now, then, Sanchez for the lead.

Curls it, curls it, but not enough. We are all square in Santa Fe. A

change on the England side as we re-examine Piers Francis's charged

down cake. Back row forward Pablo Matera with the try. Matt Mullan is

on for England, Jonny May in hot pursuit. Lavanini can't take it.

It's going to be a throw to Argentina.

Creevy rides the tackles, and hard tackles they were as well. Melon and

lawn spree involved, Robshaw involved in the counter rucking. A

lot going on there -- Mullan and Launchbury involved. A lot going on

off the ball, over the ball, and now in the air. Jonny May under pressure

from Ortega Desio, made as well, good pick-up by Mullan. Care to

Ford, to Launchbury. Chaparro with the tackles... Was that a deliberate

knock-on? By Orlando? Just the knock-on. Scrimmage. England

starting to bring some phases together. We saw only one attack

early on in this second half, and England just not finding their

rhythm, knocking the ball on, or Argentina getting their hand in. We

can see the kick from Francis, a speculative kick, not going anywhere

with that kick, would have been better to push it down town. And

build the pressure on Argentina. Tomas Lezana comes on, try scorer

Pablo Matera comes off. Mullan did a really good job when he

came on last week to secure the scrum. It is important for him to do

that now. As England look to build some pressure, get some phases

together to get on the front foot. Care gets the ball away from the

scrummage. Again, Henry Slade has knocked it on. All turned over, to

collect changes direction -- Tuculet changes direction. De La Fuente,

loose to Mike Brown, and Brown is off. Brown finds Danny Care, Care

for the line, England are back in the lead! Incredible pace from Brown

and Care. Henry Slade knocks the ball on, counterattack back, try

something speculative. De La Fuente, pour offload and simple

counterattack from Brown into the space. Care reads him really well,

the Harlequins team-mates looking well together.

There is the float that goes astray. I suppose the referee must have said

advantage over by that stage because there was a clear break by the

Pumas. The referee called that really early, watched that. England

have practised a lot from turnover ball and you can see how shocked

they are when they receive turnovers.

That is good. The flags are up. England seven points in the lead.

As soon as the turnover occurred, the awareness of Care to pick up the

run from Brown and he runs into touch. Piers Francis. He keeps it.

Leguizamon onto it. Dylan Hartley. Nathan Hughes over the ball.

Herrera of the new prop. Lezana another replacement. Lavanini,

Creevy. England solid in their defensive, slow and release. Even

now through the summer... Here they are now! Boffelli! Scored in the

first test, scores in the second. It is another cracker of a game. Really

patient build-up from Argentina. Find the numbers on the short side.

Hartley beaten for pace. Boffelli scorers. Really good execution.

England were so organised and then they weren't. Argentina just found

an edge, manage to get a bit of go forward on the Carrie and beat them

four numbers on the short side. On the hour mark we are a level again.

25 points all. Some really good curries. Putting England on the back

foot. De la Fuente mix-up with his error for his well executed pass.

This time he did and is trite speculative off-load. Harry Williams

has gone off. Some Underhill has gone off. Changes on the England

side. As the try scorer sets off again. This time he is stopped. Good

clearance, Argentina out of there own half, Agustin Creevy is off.

Julian Montoya, he can play. Just building a little breather.

Trusts his boot. We are back in the England have. It is setup for a

great minutes again with Hernandez looking to come on.

Mark Wilson is on for England, he played so well in the first test.

Jonny May looks as though he is struggling a little bit with an

first time we have seen the big number eight on the charge. Robbs of

Care goes upstairs and that might be overdone. Advantage Argentina. Great

need to run in twos and threes trying to get a tip on pass. Trying

to get it forward but Argentina match them with double tackles. Kept

forcing Care to give the ball straight out. This is the new

hooker, Will Collier is in on the front row. It has gone list. Wilson

scrum-half, Hartley acting outside-half. Ford.

It has come safely into the hands of the blue and white shirts. A little

kick through, no foul, Marland Yarde turns. Chasers, picks it up, makes

it to the halfway line exactly. Brown, there is room for England.

Nathan Hughes. Piers Francis, Jonny May. Advantage England. A little

phase of play. A lot better from England. Just moving towards an

attack. Getting the ball away from the big heavy contacts. A smart kick

from May enables to get possession back for England, five metres away

from the Argentina line. Good attacking position. Nathan Hughes

has the ball. It is now in the hands of Matt Mullan. Dylan Hartley has

it. The twist and return and the slow progress towards the line.

England claim they try, the referee agrees with them. Will Collier they

try scorer. Good impact of the bench. Well played, the England

forwards, they set them all up beautifully. Really good body

heights. You see Mullan and Hughes working in front of the ball

creating a really good luck and England just keep moving forward.

Partly doing some real damage, collier finding the line, but the

England have won the tactical battle up front. They have stopped

Argentina's Maul going and scoring. Just got the upper hand. Well done

to the England forwards. England four tries last week, four

tries again today. George Ford with the conversion.

The lead grows. Seven points again. George Ford straight through the

middle. More changes on the England side. Alex Lozowski is on offer

Piers Francis. Juan Martin Hernandez high towards Joe Launchbury. Mark

Wilson and Nathan Hughes. Penalty advantage when Nathan Hughes went

down and he didn't like it. Nathan Hughes is hurt. He came at the side,

Lavanini, chopped him at his knee, dangerous play from Lavanini.

Straightaway Nathan Hughes knew. What's that technique. Very

dangerous to catch ride on his knee. That has got to be the end of Nathan

Hughes. The need didn't want to go that way at all. -- need.

England are using their Maul again to great effect.

Hartley to throw. Hughes the number eight at scrum-half. Just have to

see how he sets off after this line-out. Chris Robshaw sets off

pretty fast up to the 22, gets back-up. Support from Mullan. It is

Lavanini again who made the tackle. But mature -- not sure how much arms

was used. Knock-on by England. Relief for Argentina. Nathan Hughes

is seriously moving very slowly towards this. Just coming into shot.

What do you think? It is a big 12 minutes for him. He has worked

really hard. Just starting to get himself into the game, carrying

well. It is important that he stays on. Nick Isiekwe on the bench could

bring some real energy. Slow scrum. Argentina go for the

second drive. Told to use it. Long towards Mike Brown. Demi Solomona --

Denny Solomona sets off in pursuit. The winner -- the winger who scored

the winning try last week is on. Hernandez not entirely pleased with

his kick. England forwards working really hard with the scrum. You can

hear them: keep your feet, keep your feet, not to move an inch, and they

haven't which means Argentina have to move the ball away and England

get possession. A smart bit of play in the last line-out. Chris Robshaw

and Dawn Hartley, the old heads working together. Ten and a little

bit minutes left. England have lost the line-out. Great surge there.

Beautiful catch by Bertranou. It is one of the frustrations of playing

against, a technical penalty, Argentina on the front foot. Support

player comes into the side, picked up by John Lacey. And the crowd gets

frustrated. All coaches get frustrated in the type of moment,

but well picked up. Great handling skills. Quick ball moved away. We

are not going to see that side entry coming in. Tomas Lezana the player

going down on the ball. He is about half a metre taller. George Ford

just coming everything down, ten minutes to manage, less than ten

minutes. Unbeaten on this tour. Bound to be some fireworks. From

start to finish there has been something special about this little

miniseries. Counter drive by Argentina. Danny Care house to go

looking for it. Care again checks, Ford. Boffelli in the end gets it.

Orlando couldn't take advantage. Just for a moment Argentina had

numbers. Smart kick from George Ford. Great chase from Slade as

well. England working really hard off the ball to get the defence

setup. But allowing Argentina any room up to short side. Orlando makes

the knock-on. Nick Isiekwe warms up on the sideline.

Care feeds. Good secondary drive by England. Comes clear. Lozowski makes

a yard or two. Robshaw drives it up. Again Lavanini flies in without much

use of the arms. Care checks where four days, forward for the drop

goal. Beautifully struck. George Ford. The management of the last few

minutes. England stretched their lead and the crowd is silent. On

this tour George Ford has been world-class. Showing us here a

fantastic drop goal, well executed play from the scrum. Lozowski did

well to get the go forward. Ford has kicked exemplary and he has been the

difference in both Test matches. He has really come of age with his

leadership, technical ability and his goal-kicking out of the hands

has been exemplary. Argentina restart having made two changes.

Six and a half minutes to go. England ten minutes and -- ten

points in front. Tuculet the outside-half. Dumped by Nathan

Hughes but the full-back gets up and carries on. And away come the Pumas.

What is left in this game? Massive strength. Lezana involved. Herrera

is up. A metre to go. The crowd Manus Island now. Hernandez. Matias

Moroni. Bertranou the new scrum-half. John

Lacey goes in to have a look. Held up. It is all about inches. And

England defending heroically. Great work by Lozowski to get across. To

help may in the tackle. Desperate work from Mullan to get underneath

the ball. Backed up by Wilson. Bertranou the new scrum-half has had

a haircut since last week. Held up over the line. By all rights

Argentina should have scored them. They had numbers on the outside,

they had to go forward, but great work from England. That scrambled

defence from them, putting their bodies on the line. It is the end of

the really long season and this England team has really fought hard

together. Mark Wilson part of the operation, assisted by Matt Mullan,

he has had an impact since he came on. He has performed very well,

technically outstanding in the scrum but also his body had there to keep

the player up and hold the ball up. England very smart. They have been

doing work with Paul Gustard to improve their technical work in the

contact area and you can see it coming through. Less than five

minutes to go. Argentina Trail by ten points but they are within five

metres from the England line. Chris Robshaw wills his team to do more.

Make Hughes still on the field. Bertranou feeds the scrum. Takes a

step back. It is going straight, nothing moving so far. Order comes.

Leguizamon. Taken well by Care. Use comes away with that. Heresies who

there. Care completes the defensive operation. That is what wins Test

matches. Fantastic scrummaging from England. Really working hard

together not to go back. Danny Care putting pressure on Leguizamon as he

backwards. The sharpness of Wilson again, over the ball to win the

turnover. Watch Care come in really fast and Wilson shop into Leguizamon

to pick the ball up. It has gone loose. England skipper top through

Tuculet. He thinks there is time to go to the set piece. Two and a half

minutes. And England have withstood the Argentine last five minutes of

their attacks. Just losing a bit of discipline in their set piece play.

their series in Argentina. It has been a tough test, a sparkling

just one of their last 20 games. The 30-9 defeat to Ireland in the Six

Nations. The Eddie Jones era, that is their only defeat in ten away

Test matches and they have scored 20 tries in their last five Test

matches. Have you enjoyed this series, Jeremy? Brilliant from an

England perspective with all the players and experience missing, only

five experienced guys playing these two tests and they come up with

Eddie and his coaching staff, but these inexperienced youngsters in

and they have got deserved results. It is not luck or chance of poor

Argentina play, they have gone out and won the game will stop in terms

of strength in depth, England or in a great place. And these young

players have forged a real bond. Yes and they have had to do it really

quick. It doesn't get much harder than going out to Argentina in that

atmosphere but to deliver the style of rugby, at times a bit sloppy, a

little bit underwhelming today I must be honest, ... 130 two across

the two tests. For all those guys getting their first caps on tour in

Argentina, I hope they go out and have a drink tonight. The desert.

Brian, are you happy or frustrated? But ever the criticisms, given the

graphic of the squad, to go and win away in Argentina 2-0 is tremendous.

Now, we want them to get everything right and it is right to do that

because we want to be the best in the world but that's not forget what

they have done with the squad they have had. When Pablo Matera scores

that try you think here we go again. We didn't know what to expect. It

was you have a go, we have a go. Here you expect a bit more from a

playmaker of Francis's ability. His execution is normally good. He is

getting used to the side and the execution here was poor. A simple

nudge through the gap or you take the ball into contact and go through

another phase and that the exit strategy in. But they didn't.

You were saying at the time, keep it simple, Ugo. Yes, get rid of the

ball, a speculative kick on the 50 metre line brought the pressure back

on to England and fair play to Matera, a good finish. The

experienced players like Danny Care really stepped up. They did, and

time and again you see what they achieved, Brown taking the ball in

the first half. In the second half the drop goal from Ford was

symptomatic of the way he has played under control he has exercised

throughout two tests. Do you think is well one the regions Argentina

play this fast loose games is they are together for the Jaguares. In

Super Rugby there are no consequences because you do not get

relegated. On the one hand you are encouraged to play this way and you

can expand the way you play, which they have done, but they are prone

to do this in areas where it costs them in Test matches, because in

Super Rugby nothing happens. You don't go down. Everyone says we will

move on to next week. With Test match rugby you can't board that.

Which is what we saw with the Danny Care try. We saw a spell of play

which was neither here, there, nor anywhere. Lou mac a big frustration

was Argentina got the ball back, could they do something with it? No,

just give it right back to England. Fair play, for Dan Brown, then to

Care, three leaders in that backline that come alive. This England team

thrive on the attacking ball and their ability to transition from

defence into attack so swiftly and well. We speak a lot about how

dangerous New Zealand are on the counterattack. They have gone from

defending their try line into scoring a try within about 15

seconds. Really smart. Beautiful almost sensory play by Ford here.

His peripheral vision and body sends him coming from depth, slipped the

ball out, then Care is there, nice to see Quins combination working,

where Brown and he had struggled in the first half getting the

combinations right, this one worked well, and a well worked try to let's

for examples say whether Lions have been struggling and players haven't

been there. Instinctively knowing where your mate is? Yes. They are

playing for a trophy as well, and we saw Dylan Hartley lift the trophy

last week. I am informed it is called the icy BC cup, so there we

are, and that is what England have been playing for and they are about

to get the trophy. -- ICBC cup. One moment in the second half where he

helped on a turnover but apart from that game, Underhill was

underwhelming. He was only 20 so he has a lot to learn. For these young

lads as well, Ugo, a lot of them are embarking on England test careers

and you can see the smiles on their faces, this is silverware for them,

a huge moment. For me is the next player who wasn't very good anyway

let's face it! Come on, you can't go for the sympathy vote that early!

LAUGHTER. You popped my tyres! These young guys who have been watching

England the last 20 games, for the last couple of weeks they have the

experience, they have been desperate to get involved and to embed

themselves with Eddie Jones and come away and taste success is brilliant.

They thoroughly deserved it. Some of these guys May not get another

opportunity for a while. Playing Argentina is a hard task. Especially

after a long season. Very physical, passionate crowds, can be quite

intimidating, especially if you are young and inexperienced,

and these players have gone in there and put the work in and got the

reward, so credit to them. These two are just jealous because they don't

look as impeccable and see you! Top button done up as well, very much on

point! Let's get back to the rugby, is Yarde to blame for this try? We

have 25 minutes so guess, in my book he is, he should have smother the

ball in the tackle. He has partly inside him who is shattered. He will

never get there and take a three quarters out. He does neither one

thing nor the other. If he makes a decision he can blame someone or he

could have smother the ball. He stays in no man's land. This is

where we disagree because they are numbered up here, one of the biggest

aspects of defence 's trust and the trust in the guy inside him to do

his job which is to tackle, he steps in the ball goes across, you would

be rinsing him. He smothers the ball! Hartley does what he can. You

know he is not going to get there. You want your slowest offenders to

the ruck. You want Ford to be the man... Ford has just made a tackle,

you won't get across. They just got in the wrong way. You are right, but

also when you have a game like this the ball is in play for a huge

amount of time with many turnovers, there will be fatigue people's legs

so mistakes happen. They have also created wonderful moments as well.

Let's not forget England have won a Test match here! We will never get

away from the fact that this is a wonderful result, 2-0, before they

went I would thought if they win one that is a great achievement, to win

two in the manner they have this right up there. Talking about young

players who remember this tour, Will Collier stepped off the bench to

score and has been earmarked by Eddie Jones for a long, glorious

future. I have two backs here who will not

appreciate what Collier can do first and. I was worried about your heart,

you were getting very excited! The technical skill required to make

this go forward properly against a big Argentinian pack is huge. It is

tremendously energy draining but technically very proficient, then

later on they had three four scrums where they were rock-solid against

an Argentinian pack which is big and strong and used to scrummage and use

it very well and didn't give an inch. Collier is responsible for

that because as tight head you take most of the weight and play a third

more than at loosehead, and that is where it is anchored. He gets his

body height right and body angle right and for a young man I think

that is tremendous progress. I have been part of Collier's development

and he is one of the poshest players in world rugby, and that was

spot-on, very well drilled. How will you part of his development? His

binding?! His body angle? LAUGHTER. Compared to last week a quiet night

for George Ford. He was quiet because he didn't score the try

because he was integral in most of what England did an attack. His

skill set allows him to do pretty much everything but what we see from

him here is game management. He knows, this penalty goes over, takes

them away from the try and conversion, puts massive pressure.

Game management, as you say. Puts massive pressure on the Pumas to get

back in this game. I was looking at the screen thinking Duda

celebrating! Brilliant play by George, which has signed up what he

has done in the Test matches. He has bossed for large portions of those

two matches, completely, the game, wonderful to see. He was fantastic

last week but that drop goal on 74 minutes, conversely, when Argentina

probably shouldn't have taken it, many guys losing their heads,

Lavanini, his assault on Nathan Hughes, I hope that is looked at

because it is a disgrace. The game was a beautiful game but that was a

horror moment for me. I don't know if it will be looked at because

Hughes ended up playing the rest of the game but that is a planting leg

and he attacked his right knee. That could have been brutal, not the way

you want when the talk. That could end a career if you get it wrong.

Not nice at all is quite how do we think the referee's decisions when

this evening? A couple of high tackles. The officiating was fine.

Rare is officiating responsible for the team's fortunes. Teams make

mistakes more than referees. The refereeing, touch judging MTM was

fine for me. Were you happy? I was but I didn't think Brian was because

he mentioned the yellow. I thought that one was wrong. You've changed

your mind? That was a definite yellow card but we all make

mistakes, referees do. Which players... We were down 61 players

now putting their hands up for selection so when Jones names his

squad for the autumn internationals, 61 players, that is incredible

strength in depth. A great bank of players to have. I thought Ewels in

the second row did well, Wilson played well last week. Where there

is advantages for players is an inside centre and six and seven.

Those other positions England don't have massive strength. Neither

position has been... No one has put their hand up and said we can take

the place of Robshaw and Haskel and Farrell. Taiyo is playing so well he

is probably locked into a couple of seasons but remember these kids are

young and inexperienced. Which players will put their hands up to

challenge the old guard? You mention Collier, it is funny for me to be

talking about a tight head but he was outstanding. Look throughout the

squad and they will all be happy. Let's hear from the England coach

with the host broadcasters. O young squad but serious and you win it.

Why? I think in each game we found a way to score points. Today wasn't a

great performance for us but we were able to maximise any areas Argentina

Meydan turn them into points. To day, you feel the team is more

comfortable than last week? Again a couple of new guys this week making

their test debut and they will be better for that, playing against

experienced players. Some players struggled but they would be OK in

future. Two great matches. Yes, George played very well. You are

happy and still having more victories. Yes, it is always good to

win against a tough opponent like Argentina. It has been a great Test

series, some really good rugby, and I think Argentina should be

congratulated on the sort of rugby they play. Thanks, Eddie. We

thoroughly enjoyed it. Let's turn our attention to the British and

Irish Lions who played the All Blacks earlier this morning. It was

at risk when, a powerful when we should say, in wet conditions, Leigh

Halfpenny landing 20 points in all, 15-10 lead at half-time. There was a

mix-up between Halfpenny and George North but the Lions dominated

second-half earning a penalty try when they took the Maoris apart.

Itoje was outstanding once again, crossed four minutes later. Katie

Gornall was there. It had been a mixed tour for the

Lions. Before they arrived here. So to beat a side with the reputation

and attacking quality of the Maoris all backs sends a huge statement.

Not a perfect game, the first half in particular peppered with errors,

but they're forward pack was excellent and the driving force

behind dominating and defeating the Maoris All Blacks. Peter O'Mahony

stood out alongside Sean O'Brien which means Captain Sam Warburton is

not guaranteed a starting place in the first test. There was also

flawless kicking performance from Leigh Halfpenny here, meaning he

looks almost certainly to take the number 15 jersey against the All

Blacks. Before that Alliance travel to Hamilton where they take on the

Chiefs. Gatland has faced criticism in the build-up to this match in

terms of the players he has brought in to boost his squad in Hamilton.

He has chosen to call in players from Wales and Scotland who have

been touring in Australasia, and overlooked England players in

Argentina. The England head coach Eddie Jones has criticised that

decision saying Gatland has picked players not on merit but on

geography. You are only a few of those players are probably unlucky

-- you are only a Lion when you get on the field. A few players are

probably unlucky. We have picked up a couple of injuries. In terms of

developing the shirt I can see some people's point but we are here to

win a Test series and it is about guys covering, not travelling

halfway round the world. We found it difficult in the first ten days when

we were here in terms of jet lag and time differences and stuff, and the

players coming from Auckland last night and from Australia will be

able to fit quickly into that time zone. So Gatland not overly worried

about that criticism. He knows it is all about the Test series. The Lions

have given themselves the perfect platform here. Whether that will be

enough to overpower the All Blacks in a week's time is another question

entirely. Katie Gornall. Stand-by because

these three have been raring to go on Gatlin's call up so we will do

that in a moment but first how impressed were you with the

performance and the win? I was impressed with the result. They

needed a massive rebound to keep momentum or regain it. That is so

important. Had they lost confidence it would have been hard work for

management to get the squad firing again. It was good on those points.

Defence and set pieces great. They are making line breaks, just not

showing composure when they make them so people have been moaning

about the support not being there which is right but they are getting

used to playing one another. What I am more worried about is once you

get to the breakdown after the break, where is your shape and

attack to walk the ball over the line and score? That's where I think

they have to work most on this week. Big performances to today, though.

Massive performances. Kate mention Peter O my honey, Sean O'Brien

taking a step forward -- Peter O'Mahony. That puts the captain

seated to debate because the balance in the back row was wonderful. A

huge game for Sexton with Farrell picking up a knock, he had to step

up but for me the 9-12 axis worked well, Conor Murray is world-class,

Ben Te'o probably raised eyebrows coming onto the talk but he has been

outstanding. A backline which at times has lack of that -- lacked

some X factor, he has provided that in probably one of the most

congested areas of the field. So very tidy, impressive performance.

Going back to the pack, to Lupe Pala towel an excellent game, George

Kruis and Maro Itoje. I firmly believe they can get a slight edge

in the set piece against the All Blacks albeit but I don't think it

will be one where they put away, but if they can get that amount of

pressure and put them on the back foot, that has huge consequences for

the wait any side plays. If they are not on the front foot it is harder

to get a quick ball, and the game is more difficult and they have to make

different decisions. They need to replicate that. They can do it. The

which is most disappointing, which prior you didn't think would be a

problem has been the back three where you are wondering who is in

form and who isn't. This is my question, we have seen the blueprint

as to how the Lions will go into the Test series, good kicking game in

defence, massive pressure in terms of line speed and set piece. My only

question is, if they are chasing the game, we haven't seen that Plan B,

they haven't scored enough tries for New Zealand to be worried about

their attack. We know they have it in the scrum, we saw evidence of

that. The line-out maul has been brilliant, but can they create and

finishing up to challenge New Zealand if they find themselves

behind which lots of teams do. What they struggle with is the finish.

There will four chances against Crusaders open, three today, maybe

four. They are creating but not finishing. We cannot expect an all

singing all dancing performance because the conditions have been

slippery underfoot, the ball is greasy, the tactics so far have been

good. The All Blacks love organised chaos, and if your defence is

pushing and pressurising the All Blacks side will cut loose because

their game will be two levels up from anything the Lions have faced

so far. I feel the nation is waiting with baited breath to hear your view

on Gatlin's call ups. Let's see who he has called up in the last 24

hours or so. There they are. Confirmation that Ross Moriarty is

out. Eddie Jones last night in that interview I referred to earlier said

it should be there on merit and not geographical proximity. What do you

say? In mine and Brian's day... He has devalued the jersey, no doubt.

You want the sport and you are glad that they're out there but you have

to be on merit otherwise you cannot look someone in the eye and say,

well done. In the modern day, here and now, Gatland has made this

choice. If you listen to all he has talked about, something they

discussed before the tour, he is taking this risk. He is head coach

and make those choices with some influence from his assistants, but

ultimately this is what he is judged on. If they lose because the likes

of Launchbury or Danny Care or George Ford are not there, Paddy

Jackson, toner, Healy, we can argue about it and go to town on him. What

he is saying is, he wants some fodder there, why should anyone on a

Lions tour be fodder? He should be competing for a test spot. Yes, I'm

disappointed, I really am. It should -- shouldn't be based on geography.

At the nucleus of the Lions is the best of the best from four nations

going against the best countries in the world, that is what it has

always been about. I have really enjoyed this series so far and love

that the guys are taking time out to understand the history and values of

what it is to be a New Zealander and an All Black, but for me to be a

Lion is about being the best of the best, and it is not just paying

respect to everyone else but devaluing ourselves, forgetting what

it is for us. That frustrates me. For the players that are selected,

if there is anyone having a pop at them this is misguided. If anyone is

called up they will be on the plane, so it is not them. I am just pretty

frustrated. Get it in context, this is the highest accolade you can have

as a British player. When that letter drops on your Mac and you

open it with the embossed Lions thing, it is the proudest moment of

your life and it means something to say you have been a Lion. Conversely

if you cannot say that, and there are very good players who haven't

been able to, and now like Launchbury. He is young enough but

who knows where he would be in four years? When you see someone who you

know is not as good as you, and arguably, you will be unhappy and

other people will be unhappy. I don't blame the players but in terms

of Gatlin, he knew this would happen earlier on, he would have been

better taking them straightaway. With the England thing, it is an

arguable that if you wanted Launchbury, Eddie Jones wouldn't

have said with my blessing, go after the first test. He said last night

he would have given his blessing. So I don't understand why this has been

done because the players could have been released to get over jet lag

and they are better players. This has been part of Gatlin's plan. They

should have been more transparency about it to allow those guys to go

from Argentina, whoever he might have selected last Sunday, they

could have had a week in New Zealand. The Lions has never been

about convenience and making things easy, it is about challenging

yourself against the best, and this is part of the challenge, a

challenge you should take, and some of the guys who know they are better

than those called up, it is a bitter pill. Warren knows a lot about the

Lions tradition and history. This is his third tour, I believe, so he

understands that. It couldn't have been an easy decision to plan this

knowing the flak he would receive. He made a tough decision with

O'Driscoll, which some people at the time didn't agree with. He got it

right. Right now, 99% of anybody involved with the Lions will say

what he is doing right now is devaluing it, and players on the

tour now we'll look at other players and think, you don't deserve to be

here. There is a chance it could split the camp. I get the feeling

there was political point scoring. Do you think it will cause a rift? I

denting so. The bigger picture is you are there to win the series.

That's what Gatland said but he said he wants to get his players in the

best physical prowess to be able to deliver that. Absolutely. I think,

for the Lions it has always been greater than just winning, it is

about taking the Lions badge, honouring it, keeping the value of

it high, passing the jersey to the next guy in a better position than

where you left it. With some of the selections I don't think that has

been upheld. He is entitled as head coach to do what he wants,

absolutely, I have no problem with that. But it is illogical. There are

ways he could have done this to get better players are under similar

circumstances, so his squad would be enhanced. All the players could have

been released earlier so they could get over the jet lag and this point

wouldn't have been... We are here and could do -based that -- debate

this forever but we have selected a team that might win the first test.

Earlier today we got these three together and believe it or not they

agreed, and it didn't take long, I was surprised, you agreed... I

wasn't there! LAUGHTER Here is their Lions team. It was a combination of

what we thought might be there. When a polar unarguable. Jamie George for

me offers more technically and bearing in mind he has is there as

well. -- he has Toni Kroos there as -- he has George Kruis there. I

think George Kruis is the brains in there, completely. I think Alun Wyn

Jones will be there because of his experience. Itoje on the bench, more

of an impact player, but that is a front five will be competitive. That

back row have played together a couple of times and it operated

really well again today. Conor Murray in the back, we hope he is

fitter than the centres. I think Te'o showed his form and Davies can

make the breaks. We thought Williams will find his form, Halfpenny nailed

it, not missing a kick. Watson probably the best of the winners so

far. No one has shown a huge amount of form but we hope it comes well

last week -- next week. We are all behind them despite the debate, the

four nations hope they can do something serious come Saturday.

Crucially, no Sam Warburton. I think he probably will get the squad.
