Hello and welcome to the BBC sports Centre. Over the next 15 minutes, we | :00:11. | :00:16.
have a round-up of the weekend 's board including the latest from the | :00:17. | :00:19.
ashes. This is Saturday Sportsday. Coming up on the programme, another | :00:20. | :00:36.
disastrous performance from England in cricket leaving them staring at | :00:37. | :00:41.
another defeat in Australia. We have a report and reaction from Adelaide. | :00:42. | :00:47.
Try typing this into a search engine, you will find this from | :00:48. | :00:56.
Scott Boswell, by his recovery has taken ten years. And a potential | :00:57. | :01:01.
clash between two taekwondo arch rivals in Manchester, 18 months on | :01:02. | :01:08.
from Olympics controversy. The sport headlines. | :01:09. | :01:12.
Roy Hodgson says he is still very positive about England's World Cup | :01:13. | :01:17.
hopes despite them getting Italy, Uruguay and Costa Rica. | :01:18. | :01:23.
Neil Robertson is on course to win the big trouble in snooker. He had | :01:24. | :01:27.
already won the Masters and world championships and is through to the | :01:28. | :01:32.
UK Championship for the first time after victory over Stuart Bingham in | :01:33. | :01:39.
the semifinals. And it is day two of the track | :01:40. | :01:45.
cycling World Cup in Mexico. Jason Kenny picked up a sprint silver. | :01:46. | :01:51.
Let us start in Adelaide, a second humiliating Ashes defeat in | :01:52. | :01:54.
Australia. And England batting collapse with eight of the team not | :01:55. | :01:59.
even reaching double figures. Mitchell Johnson ripped through with | :02:00. | :02:07.
seven, 440 runs. Australia are in complete control with a lead of 530 | :02:08. | :02:14.
runs. Joe Wilson has the details. By mid-afternoon on the third day of | :02:15. | :02:19.
the second Test, people in Adelaide were openly talking about there | :02:20. | :02:23.
being no way back for England in this Ashes series. That may yet seem | :02:24. | :02:30.
premature. But the point is, Australia were utterly dominant. | :02:31. | :02:37.
Mitchell Johnson is a player that England cannot deal with. That's how | :02:38. | :02:42.
it looked today. This is the scorecard. Seven wickets they him. | :02:43. | :02:48.
He blew away the middle order, in the words of Ian Bell. There are | :02:49. | :02:53.
still a couple of players, Ian Bell, Michael Carberry. Bell was | :02:54. | :02:58.
able to attack before he was stranded. Mitchell Johnson said this | :02:59. | :03:05.
was his best day in test cricket. Ian Bell was the England player left | :03:06. | :03:10.
to try to explain things at the close of play. | :03:11. | :03:13.
Another disappointing performance, and you can't afford in test | :03:14. | :03:20.
matches, in first innings, to be bowled out at 200. It is | :03:21. | :03:27.
disappointing. There will be no excuses. We need to make sure we put | :03:28. | :03:32.
that right and have an opportunity in the second innings to show | :03:33. | :03:34.
people. How do you explain their inability | :03:35. | :03:40.
to deal with Mitchell Johnson? Is it a question of technique or attitude, | :03:41. | :03:44.
that will to win that even Graham Gooch spoke about at the start of | :03:45. | :03:50.
the week in Adelaide. Michael Vaughan was the England captain who | :03:51. | :03:54.
won Australian respect, I asked his opinion. | :03:55. | :03:59.
It looked like they were shy, petrified, a bit scared. Not a good | :04:00. | :04:06.
sign as a batting unit. They were backing off when Mitchell Johnson | :04:07. | :04:12.
was bowling. I think that the courage that is required to face | :04:13. | :04:16.
quick bowling comes from within. A coach can't tell you that. This | :04:17. | :04:22.
batting unit aren't playing with great confidence, they aren't in | :04:23. | :04:26.
great form. They need to ask their own questions. Have they got the | :04:27. | :04:34.
fight and desire? Brisbane was bad. But they had the excuse of the | :04:35. | :04:41.
pitch. This is a flat wicket. I have two say, for long periods it was | :04:42. | :04:45.
embarrassing. What will happen on the fourth day? | :04:46. | :04:50.
Mitchell Johnson has said they will let England Cook in the field a | :04:51. | :04:54.
little longer, let David Wanna get his century, let the lead build-up | :04:55. | :05:01.
to do, who knows, 650, then Mitchell Johnson will be unleashed again. | :05:02. | :05:04.
There is no hiding place. Jonathan Trott's recent withdrawal | :05:05. | :05:10.
from England's Ashes squad, because of a stress related illness, brought | :05:11. | :05:13.
up the issue of depression in cricket once again. A less | :05:14. | :05:16.
well-known example is former Leicestershire bowler Scott Boswell. | :05:17. | :05:19.
He became an internet hit because of one disastrous over at Lords in | :05:20. | :05:21.
2001. The experience devastated Boswell, and ended his career. Tim | :05:22. | :05:25.
Hague found out that, 12 years later, and now teaching at Trent | :05:26. | :05:28.
College in Nottingham, Boswell is only just recovering. | :05:29. | :05:36.
I choked on the day. I froze. I bowled wide. It got louder and | :05:37. | :05:47.
louder. It was almost a fear of failure. I was so concerned. My | :05:48. | :05:51.
gosh, how am I going to get through this over? This was meant to be the | :05:52. | :05:58.
best day of my life but it turned out to be the worst day. | :05:59. | :06:03.
Something Scott Boswell still finds hard to look at, and remember, that | :06:04. | :06:10.
a simple Internet search for worst over ever revealing the sad end to | :06:11. | :06:14.
his cricket career. A Lord's final 12 years ago where a 14 ball over, | :06:15. | :06:21.
18 of them wide, left a permanent mark on his life. | :06:22. | :06:24.
It was an awful feeling, it took a long time to get over, a long, long | :06:25. | :06:31.
time. How long? How long? Probably ten years. Deep inside, I wasn't | :06:32. | :06:37.
dealing with it. If anybody mentioned it, my word, I would lose | :06:38. | :06:43.
the plot. Whether I was depressed at the time, there was something not | :06:44. | :06:47.
quite right with me because I became more introverted and isolated from | :06:48. | :06:53.
society. I kept myself to myself. I was very down about things. I found | :06:54. | :06:58.
it hard to deal with. After his professional career was | :06:59. | :07:02.
over, Boswell tried to regain his confidence in club cricket. But | :07:03. | :07:05.
matters of the mind are not that simple. | :07:06. | :07:09.
There were stages where it got stuck in my hand. Trying to let go of it | :07:10. | :07:13.
and it would come through. It would literally go on the ground. All over | :07:14. | :07:19.
the top of the keeper. Anywhere. I would physically be sick. I was | :07:20. | :07:26.
bowling through tears. I can laugh about it now but during the time, it | :07:27. | :07:30.
was pretty painful. Relief from that pain eventually | :07:31. | :07:36.
came. In a less obvious way. Cricket in its most basic form is very | :07:37. | :07:41.
simple. All you need is a bat and a ball. Scott Boswell is using his | :07:42. | :07:46.
negative experience from that game, in a positive way, by teaching the | :07:47. | :07:52.
next generation of cricketers. Teaching, every word you say can | :07:53. | :07:56.
have an effect on the rest of their life. | :07:57. | :07:58.
I think I have got the empathy side of it. It still gets me. I get a | :07:59. | :08:05.
little bit apprehensive. But, I help them. I say, I know exactly where | :08:06. | :08:11.
you have been. I know how it feels. Try this. That vulnerable side, kids | :08:12. | :08:13.
can relate to and accept. With the autumn internationals done | :08:14. | :08:20.
and dusted, Rugby Union turns its attention to the Heineken Cup this | :08:21. | :08:23.
weekend. There are six fixtures today. The top two in pool one meet, | :08:24. | :08:26.
as Northampton face Leinster. Elsewhere, Saracens and Ulster | :08:27. | :08:29.
should be too strong for their Italian opposition. But Scarlets and | :08:30. | :08:32.
Quins face tough trips to France. Perhaps the pick of the games is at | :08:33. | :08:36.
Sandy Park, as Exeter take on defending champions Toulon, and | :08:37. | :08:43.
their star fly-half Jonny Wilkinson. Yes. Certainly bring a bit of extra | :08:44. | :08:50.
attention. He has obviously done fantastically well and he won the | :08:51. | :08:54.
condition last year. These guys are the holders. We are pitting | :08:55. | :08:57.
ourselves against some of the best players in the world over the last | :08:58. | :09:02.
few years. That is an exciting challenge but we are not overawed. | :09:03. | :09:04.
We will see where we come. Next weekend, one of the most highly | :09:05. | :09:15.
anticipated fights in the history of taekwondo could take place in | :09:16. | :09:17.
Manchester, between Olympic bronze medallist Lutalo Muhammad and | :09:18. | :09:20.
European champion Aaron Cook. You may remember that last year the duo | :09:21. | :09:23.
were embroiled in a bitter appeals battle for a place in the London | :09:24. | :09:27.
2012 squad, after then world number one Cook was overlooked in favour of | :09:28. | :09:30.
his lower-ranked rival. Muhammad received hate mail. But, after | :09:31. | :09:33.
missing out on the Games, Cook has since lost all of his sponsorship, | :09:34. | :09:37.
and now funds himself. Nick Hope has been to meet the pair. | :09:38. | :09:44.
It is one of the biggest fights. A lot of people would like to see | :09:45. | :09:48.
that fight and I would like to fight them. | :09:49. | :09:51.
British selectors have again chosen Lutalo Muhammad over Aaron Cook for | :09:52. | :09:56.
London 2012. World number one, reigning two-time | :09:57. | :10:00.
champion. The constant appeals, it was nasty | :10:01. | :10:04.
and unnecessary. That's fine, that is his opinion. I | :10:05. | :10:09.
beat him twice come he beat me once. I know what I can do, I am confident | :10:10. | :10:13.
but the result will be. There is only going to be one | :10:14. | :10:17.
winner, me. Fighting talk ahead of a boxing bout | :10:18. | :10:22.
not a taekwondo jewel. These are passionate rivals. Both great | :10:23. | :10:27.
victory. Following his Olympic projection, Cook needs it more than | :10:28. | :10:29.
Muhammad. I was in pieces I was in tears. It | :10:30. | :10:38.
was difficult. I lost my dream, my Olympic dream. My mum and dad had | :10:39. | :10:43.
funded everything for me. It is not cheap. Hopefully, somewhere along | :10:44. | :10:47.
the line, someone will stand up and stay -- say this is right. Life for | :10:48. | :10:53.
Muhammad was an easy either. He was the victim of hate mail. Why it | :10:54. | :10:57.
bothers me is not so much I received the messages. My family was | :10:58. | :11:03.
affected, my parents were being hounded by reporters. My dad was | :11:04. | :11:08.
being followed to his place of work. I don't look back on it fondly. | :11:09. | :11:13.
Muhammad went on to claim Olympic bronze while Cook secured sanctuary | :11:14. | :11:19.
under the flag of the Isle of Man. He still aims to fight for Britain | :11:20. | :11:26.
in 2016. To be in Rio, I am going to be Olympic champion, world champion, | :11:27. | :11:31.
have that anthem playing behind me. It would be a dream. | :11:32. | :11:38.
People say I won a bronze model. I say you can only win the gold. -- | :11:39. | :11:45.
bronze medal. Muhammad and Cook share the same dream and neither was | :11:46. | :11:49.
a repeat of the Olympic selection controversy. The only way to achieve | :11:50. | :11:53.
that is with the upright domination of their sport which begins in | :11:54. | :11:59.
Manchester. -- out right domination. | :12:00. | :12:03.
You can watch how they and the other leading Great Britain fighters get | :12:04. | :12:06.
on at the World Taekwondo Grand Prix in Manchester, with live coverage of | :12:07. | :12:09.
the semi-finals and finals, during each day of the competition. That's | :12:10. | :12:13.
Friday 13th to Sunday 15th, via the red button, and BBC Sport website. | :12:14. | :12:17.
It's the Gymnastics World Cup in Glasgow this weekend, and there's | :12:18. | :12:20.
live coverage on the BBC Sport website at 1pm, with highlights on | :12:21. | :12:23.
BBC One next Saturday. Olympic bronze medallist Dan Purvis will be | :12:24. | :12:26.
among those in action, in front of a sell-out crowd, and he's using the | :12:27. | :12:30.
experience to help his preparations for next year's Commonwealth Games | :12:31. | :12:40.
in Glasgow. Since the Olympics, it was crazy how | :12:41. | :12:44.
many people actually watched it and recognised the team. It was great | :12:45. | :12:50.
for the sport. That we actually got the bronze medal. Since then, it has | :12:51. | :12:58.
been really good kids getting into the sport. Especially in my own gym | :12:59. | :13:05.
club in Southport. It's been like that around the country. A lot of | :13:06. | :13:14.
people asking me where to chain. England's women hockey players are | :13:15. | :13:16.
in semifinal action at the World League Tournament in Argentina. | :13:17. | :13:19.
They'll face Australia at 9.30 tonight for a place in the final | :13:20. | :13:23.
They should go into the match with plenty of confidence, after | :13:24. | :13:25.
dominating their quarter final against China on Thursday night, | :13:26. | :13:28.
despite only having Georgie Twigg's penalty to show for it. They'll face | :13:29. | :13:31.
a tougher test against the Australians. Argentina and the | :13:32. | :13:33.
Netherlands will contest the other semifinal. | :13:34. | :13:38.
Before we go, just time to update you on the early kick off. At | :13:39. | :13:47.
Manchester United v Newcastle, it's currently: 0-0. | :13:48. | :13:54.
That's all from us for this week. Goodbye. | :13:55. | :13:57. |
