Hello and welcome to the BBC Sport Centre.

We're focusing on the old and the new today -

the teenage swimmer hoping to win a medal in Rio, a sport featuring

at an Olympic Games for the very first time and an old car reinvented

Lewis Hamilton will start from the back of the grid for the Chinese

Grand Prix. He failed to set a qualifying time after engine

trouble. He'd already picked up a penalty for a gearbox change. His

team-mate took pole position. In the last few minutes, a British boxer

has won a gold medal at an Olympic qualifying event in Turkey. He had

already secured his place earlier this week. And there was a surprise

victory in an Olympic qualifying time for Andrew Willis at the

British swimming Championships. He will compete at the summer games.

Well Paralympic athletes will follow suit when they compete

at the European Championships in Madeira later this month.

One of them is teenager Tully Kearney who's hoping to build

on an impressive 2015 and win a medal this summer.

Our reporter Kate Grey, herself a former Paralympic

Tully Kearney is not your average 19-year-old. She has become a

four-time world champion and has moved to Manchester with the hopes

of competing at the Paralympics in Rio de Janiero. The recipe to her

success could have something to do with going to the same school and

swimming club as Ellie Simmonds. We live in the same village at home.

She was one of my biggest inspirations. She was always there

with her medals showing everyone. I remember looking at her unthinking,

that's what I want to do. She certainly did at the World

Championships in Glasgow last summer. She won three goals and

broke world records. Glasgow was the first competition where I forgot

about the pressure and everything. I did what I loved and raced. When you

see your name and your world champion, such an amazing feeling

and that is what I train for now. With thoughts of a repeat

performance, she can access all the support she needs at the National

performance Centre. It has been four years since I have retired from

swimming and the sport has moved on a long way. This is the latest

technology. It can measure the speed and angle of the dive. There are

cameras above and below the water, providing further analysis. Do you

feel this could be the difference of view winning a medal? Definitely. We

can work together to help each other along. With Rio de Janiero

approaching, that goal is not far away.

Swimming was one of the original Olympic sports but Rugby Sevens

will be included for the first time ever this summer.

Thanks to the performances of the two England sides,

both in action overnight, Team GB will have a men's

David McDaid went to Vancouver to find out more about them.

For now, they wear the Rose of England but in a few months, some

will swap that for the lion of Team GB. It is a massive carrot, it keeps

the guys interested. There is a feeling that it is like the British

Lions. The Great Britain squad can use 15 aside names as well. Whilst

they are already picking their squads in other countries, the plans

are nice. It is proving to be difficult to get them on the

circuit. What we are looking to do is in June, we will get all the

nations together, hopefully we can get these guys in and give it our

best shot. It is not the best plan in the world. But hopefully...

The women are at a much more advanced stage. The initial squad

includes World Cup winners and other talent. The girls get an opportunity

to play the best part of a dozen games in the space of a fortnight.

That gives us a chance to look at the combinations. Everybody comes

together and it feels like a real team. It gives us the opportunity to

compete for places. While racing's elite are in Shanghai

for the Chinese Grand Prix, Silverstone is hosting the opening

race of the World Endurance Ford's new GT race car

is making its European debut and after a long absence

from the sport they're hoping to replicate their first win 50

years ago at Le Mans. Marino Frankitti is one

of the drivers leading the charge. Nick Parrott met him and the car

he fell in love with. So beautiful to look at and it was

massively successful in endurance racing. Four years in a row at Le

Monde is. It steam-rolled the opposition. When the opposition is

mainly Ferrari, that is an impressive thing. If passion alone

was enough to win committee would be a world champion many times over.

The original Ford GT is his inspiration. The noise but it

produced is amazing. This car was not a small step forward, it was

going seven seconds faster, well over 200 mph. Now he has the chance

to rekindle it with Le Mans. I started testing the car in the

second half and now I'm part of the team. Back in the 1960s it was

anything goes but now the rules dictate that the cars be more equal.

Repeating history will not be easy. We have some incredible competition.

Aston Martin, Ferrari, Porsche. Incredible competition. It is going

to be a big ask to go there but we will try and achieve it with this

car. Ford have spent millions to get this car ready. It will not make

them any money at all but if they win as they did in the 60s, the

prestige will be priceless. Let's update you on the Premier

League lunchtime match. Norwich and Sunderland are both

trying to avoid relegation.
