Hello and welcome to the BBC Sport Centre. | :00:15. | :00:16.
We're focusing on the old and the new today - | :00:17. | :00:21.
the teenage swimmer hoping to win a medal in Rio, a sport featuring | :00:22. | :00:25.
at an Olympic Games for the very first time and an old car reinvented | :00:26. | :00:28.
Lewis Hamilton will start from the back of the grid for the Chinese | :00:29. | :00:44.
Grand Prix. He failed to set a qualifying time after engine | :00:45. | :00:48.
trouble. He'd already picked up a penalty for a gearbox change. His | :00:49. | :00:54.
team-mate took pole position. In the last few minutes, a British boxer | :00:55. | :01:00.
has won a gold medal at an Olympic qualifying event in Turkey. He had | :01:01. | :01:03.
already secured his place earlier this week. And there was a surprise | :01:04. | :01:08.
victory in an Olympic qualifying time for Andrew Willis at the | :01:09. | :01:13.
British swimming Championships. He will compete at the summer games. | :01:14. | :01:16.
Now I've just mentioned British swimmers trying | :01:17. | :01:18.
Well Paralympic athletes will follow suit when they compete | :01:19. | :01:21.
at the European Championships in Madeira later this month. | :01:22. | :01:25.
One of them is teenager Tully Kearney who's hoping to build | :01:26. | :01:28.
on an impressive 2015 and win a medal this summer. | :01:29. | :01:35.
Our reporter Kate Grey, herself a former Paralympic | :01:36. | :01:36.
Tully Kearney is not your average 19-year-old. She has become a | :01:37. | :01:52.
four-time world champion and has moved to Manchester with the hopes | :01:53. | :01:56.
of competing at the Paralympics in Rio de Janiero. The recipe to her | :01:57. | :02:00.
success could have something to do with going to the same school and | :02:01. | :02:06.
swimming club as Ellie Simmonds. We live in the same village at home. | :02:07. | :02:10.
She was one of my biggest inspirations. She was always there | :02:11. | :02:15.
with her medals showing everyone. I remember looking at her unthinking, | :02:16. | :02:21.
that's what I want to do. She certainly did at the World | :02:22. | :02:25.
Championships in Glasgow last summer. She won three goals and | :02:26. | :02:33.
broke world records. Glasgow was the first competition where I forgot | :02:34. | :02:36.
about the pressure and everything. I did what I loved and raced. When you | :02:37. | :02:45.
see your name and your world champion, such an amazing feeling | :02:46. | :02:50.
and that is what I train for now. With thoughts of a repeat | :02:51. | :02:55.
performance, she can access all the support she needs at the National | :02:56. | :03:01.
performance Centre. It has been four years since I have retired from | :03:02. | :03:06.
swimming and the sport has moved on a long way. This is the latest | :03:07. | :03:11.
technology. It can measure the speed and angle of the dive. There are | :03:12. | :03:16.
cameras above and below the water, providing further analysis. Do you | :03:17. | :03:23.
feel this could be the difference of view winning a medal? Definitely. We | :03:24. | :03:31.
can work together to help each other along. With Rio de Janiero | :03:32. | :03:39.
approaching, that goal is not far away. | :03:40. | :03:43.
Swimming was one of the original Olympic sports but Rugby Sevens | :03:44. | :03:45.
will be included for the first time ever this summer. | :03:46. | :03:48.
Thanks to the performances of the two England sides, | :03:49. | :03:50.
both in action overnight, Team GB will have a men's | :03:51. | :03:52.
David McDaid went to Vancouver to find out more about them. | :03:53. | :04:07.
For now, they wear the Rose of England but in a few months, some | :04:08. | :04:13.
will swap that for the lion of Team GB. It is a massive carrot, it keeps | :04:14. | :04:29.
the guys interested. There is a feeling that it is like the British | :04:30. | :04:40.
Lions. The Great Britain squad can use 15 aside names as well. Whilst | :04:41. | :04:47.
they are already picking their squads in other countries, the plans | :04:48. | :04:53.
are nice. It is proving to be difficult to get them on the | :04:54. | :04:58.
circuit. What we are looking to do is in June, we will get all the | :04:59. | :05:04.
nations together, hopefully we can get these guys in and give it our | :05:05. | :05:09.
best shot. It is not the best plan in the world. But hopefully... | :05:10. | :05:22.
The women are at a much more advanced stage. The initial squad | :05:23. | :05:34.
includes World Cup winners and other talent. The girls get an opportunity | :05:35. | :05:42.
to play the best part of a dozen games in the space of a fortnight. | :05:43. | :05:49.
That gives us a chance to look at the combinations. Everybody comes | :05:50. | :05:55.
together and it feels like a real team. It gives us the opportunity to | :05:56. | :06:06.
compete for places. While racing's elite are in Shanghai | :06:07. | :06:11.
for the Chinese Grand Prix, Silverstone is hosting the opening | :06:12. | :06:14.
race of the World Endurance Ford's new GT race car | :06:15. | :06:16.
is making its European debut and after a long absence | :06:17. | :06:19.
from the sport they're hoping to replicate their first win 50 | :06:20. | :06:22.
years ago at Le Mans. Marino Frankitti is one | :06:23. | :06:24.
of the drivers leading the charge. Nick Parrott met him and the car | :06:25. | :06:27.
he fell in love with. So beautiful to look at and it was | :06:28. | :07:02.
massively successful in endurance racing. Four years in a row at Le | :07:03. | :07:10.
Monde is. It steam-rolled the opposition. When the opposition is | :07:11. | :07:16.
mainly Ferrari, that is an impressive thing. If passion alone | :07:17. | :07:23.
was enough to win committee would be a world champion many times over. | :07:24. | :07:26.
The original Ford GT is his inspiration. The noise but it | :07:27. | :07:35.
produced is amazing. This car was not a small step forward, it was | :07:36. | :07:42.
going seven seconds faster, well over 200 mph. Now he has the chance | :07:43. | :07:53.
to rekindle it with Le Mans. I started testing the car in the | :07:54. | :08:01.
second half and now I'm part of the team. Back in the 1960s it was | :08:02. | :08:06.
anything goes but now the rules dictate that the cars be more equal. | :08:07. | :08:11.
Repeating history will not be easy. We have some incredible competition. | :08:12. | :08:18.
Aston Martin, Ferrari, Porsche. Incredible competition. It is going | :08:19. | :08:26.
to be a big ask to go there but we will try and achieve it with this | :08:27. | :08:31.
car. Ford have spent millions to get this car ready. It will not make | :08:32. | :08:37.
them any money at all but if they win as they did in the 60s, the | :08:38. | :08:39.
prestige will be priceless. Let's update you on the Premier | :08:40. | :08:41.
League lunchtime match. Norwich and Sunderland are both | :08:42. | :08:45.
trying to avoid relegation. | :08:46. | :08:48. |
