Sportsday. On the show today we are talking hockey and skeleton, and as

football remembers the Paris attacks with the French national anthem to

be played at Premier League and Scottish Premier League fixtures,

we're looking at how what happened last Friday in the French capital

has affected sport. So, just over a week since the world was rocked by

the terror attacks in Paris. Alongside the bars and the concert

hall, the other target was the national stadium. For many, life

will never be the same. But how has it affected sport? 9:20pm local time

in Paris. France are playing Germany. A Bond goes off outside the

Stade de France. But for the actions of a security man, the blast would

have been inside the ground. As bloody chaos swept across the city,

both teams are kept inside the stadium after the match. What

happened that weekend was clearly an attack...

Silence as a charity match organised by David Beckham to raise money for

a global children's charity. Back played in Paris two years ago.

-- David Beckham played in Paris. I've got so much love for Paris,

it's a special place. These things happen all over the world and its

devastating to see. We pass our condolences on to people who have

lost loved ones. For three days after the attacks, France was in

mourning. Nicolas Mahut and Pierre-Hugues Herbert chose to pay

their respects at the O2 in London. Herbert wanted his tennis to send a

message. We play for what happened in Paris. Our hearts are with all

those people. Even more incredibly, the France team that had been so

close to the horror when to get with -- went ahead with their friendly

against England. Not all of them had wanted to play. The FA turned the

game into the friendliest of friendlies. French colours, French

values. The French anthem sung by a list man as well. La Marseillaise

will Claye Premier League rounds but the focus is on security as well as

solidarity. The policing ahead of England against France may not be a

one-off. The cancellation of two international friendlies in the week

due to security concerns shows the mood. The government's advice to

those coming here to the Etihad Stadium and other sporting venues

this weekend is to be alert but not alarmed. Premier League clubs have

been briefed about security. Nothing has changed officially but going to

a game will feel -- may feel different. Sport maybe escapism, but

it can't change everything. Great Britain's hockey teams are aiming to

finish 2015 with a flourish. Great Britain women's team are the

champions come but in Argentina it is Team GB who take part. The men's

team are also in action. This is vital preparation for next year's

Rio Olympics. One last effort for Britain's hockey players before the

end of the year before the Olympics, to test themselves against the

world's best, like they will have to do in Brazil next summer. Both the

men and the women have already qualified for the Olympics, but this

time the preparations for Rio really begin in earnest. Not only that but

competition for places in teams in Brazil also begins. The men's squad

really does have a fresh look to it, with eight regulars missing the trip

to the subcontinent. Guys who have played a lot of international hockey

over the last few years, we've left they few of them at home. We're

looking at other players and see we could potentially use them in the

Olympics next year. One of those hopefuls has over 90 Scotland caps

but only made his GB debut last month. That is the reason I started

playing hockey, to try and represent my country in the Olympics. I think

the main thing is to focus on this tournament and try to make myself

better and get involved more in the team, and never say never.

The women's squad is more settled, but one addition already has Olympic

experience. Krista Cullen retired after winning that bronze in London

and now she is back for a shot at gold in Rio. -- Crista Cullen. I've

of that, even if it is just making selection more competitive or

whatever it may be, whatever I can give to make sure this team can

Yarnold, taking a year out, or Shelley Rudman, on maternity leave.

Now the sport's hopes lie with the horse rider turned skeleton athlete

Laura. It's just like riding a roller-coaster over and over again.

You just hope you don't hurt yourself too much on the way down.

You need to be able to think quickly with a really clear head when

everything is going crazy around you. Many find skeleton exciting,

but only if you can excel. Laura has already shown that she has huge

potential, winning medals last season, but her career could have

been many different. -- very different. I got into skeleton in

2009 off the back of the project Girls for Gold. I was event riding

professionally. To make the transition was quite tough because

it meant letting a few people down who had put a lot of trust and

effort into what I was doing. I remember watching skeleton and

thinking this is pretty crazy but I want to have a go at it. Deas did

not qualify for the Winter Olympics in sorry, where Lizzy Yarnold took

gold. She is now taking a year out, but... It's really good to give

other athletes a chance to perform at their best. Just like I did. I

was the rookie and I performed, and I

next superstar. It's a really environment acrobatic space

inspiring environment to be in because you believe you can deliver

a medal at the Olympic Games. Lizzy Yarnold is taking a year out and

we're not sure if Shelley will come back. How much do you want to see

them come back? What this programme does really well is breed strong

internal competition. From that respect it would be really good to

have them back. And also they are relieved good friends of mine, so it

would be nice to have them back on the circuit! Laura Deas of Great
