The roof was shut. Mines were focused. And milestones were met.

:00:18.:00:28.

Wales look for their first autumn victory in four years against the

:00:29.:00:34.

Pumas. Mike Phillips. He is over halfway!

:00:35.:00:43.

That is what they needed. George North, straight through. No

:00:44.:00:47.

doubt whatsoever what the outcome was going to be.

:00:48.:00:57.

Hopefully no injuries now going into the last two games.

:00:58.:01:05.

But victory has come at a cost. The midfield has been put through a

:01:06.:01:08.

mincer. Plenty for Warren Gatland to ponder. Good evening and welcome to

:01:09.:01:15.

Scrum V. Wales return to winning ways in

:01:16.:01:18.

emphatic fashion but that injury list is growing. Jonathan Davies,

:01:19.:01:25.

Robert Jones and Lyn Jones are here to assess wales's first autumn

:01:26.:01:30.

victory in four years. But first let's remind ourselves how they did

:01:31.:01:31.

it. Immediately taken by the captain,

:01:32.:01:48.

Juan Manuel Leguizamon. And the clearing kick under pressure does

:01:49.:01:56.

not gain too much ground. Advantage, not ten metres back, so still be

:01:57.:02:00.

penalty coming for Wales. Justin Tipuric waiting. Still advantage.

:02:01.:02:08.

Mike Phillips took it quickly. Liam Williams. Is that advantage is still

:02:09.:02:19.

there for them? They are finding the half gap. A great tackle, that is.

:02:20.:02:29.

It was still advantage. A very good tackle by Nicolas Sanchez.

:02:30.:02:40.

Leigh Halfpenny and Wales band running.

:02:41.:02:48.

A little bit long but it works for Argentina. This is what the captain

:02:49.:02:56.

does so well. Argentina, their first venture into the Welsh 22.

:02:57.:03:05.

A great run by the Argentinian captain. Still they have it.

:03:06.:03:15.

That is an interception and surely it is going to be a try. There's

:03:16.:03:24.

Mike Phillips have the legs? The dummy is enough and Mike Phillips

:03:25.:03:26.

goes the length of the field to score. That is what they needed. But

:03:27.:03:35.

George North, just watch the supporting run of George North which

:03:36.:03:38.

takes both defenders away from Mike Phillips. I did not think he had the

:03:39.:03:42.

legs. Wales have it again and Williams

:03:43.:03:59.

once more sense this one low. Santiago Cordero. Wonderful stuff.

:04:00.:04:08.

Still going! This is marvellous. The support not quite there but that is

:04:09.:04:15.

magic. The ball goes loose. Did it go forward? There is still a chance

:04:16.:04:21.

here for Argentina. Dan Biggar are getting across there, just in time.

:04:22.:04:29.

What a fantastic run. A dummy kick, steps of his right and then his

:04:30.:04:32.

left. What a great run. A yellow card for Justin Tipuric who

:04:33.:04:43.

is deemed to have taken a man of the ball. A chance for Nicolas Sanchez.

:04:44.:04:51.

He plies his trade at Bordeaux. A chance here if it falls for

:04:52.:05:04.

Argentina! That was so dangerous for Wales. Three points missed could

:05:05.:05:09.

easily have been seven. Still Argentina. Wales are riding their

:05:10.:05:19.

luck at the moment. They are a man short now. An opportunity here for

:05:20.:05:32.

Argentina. Great play. A little chip through from Nicolas Sanchez but it

:05:33.:05:35.

is well shepherded into touch. And Wales have the penalty inside

:05:36.:05:50.

the Argentinian half. Yes, sealing off.

:05:51.:06:00.

He is running back, Leigh Halfpenny. He knows it is good.

:06:01.:06:09.

Mike Phillips with the kick, inviting the captain, who decides to

:06:10.:06:21.

kick this time. Here he goes! That was a great chip. Was there a

:06:22.:06:29.

knock-on? No, of the foot says the rectory. -- referee. That was great

:06:30.:06:41.

play by Juan Manuel Leguizamon. Good tackle.

:06:42.:06:48.

Still playing with a man advantage, remember. Scott Williams was rocked

:06:49.:06:57.

there as he made that tackle. They need to go wide. And so they do.

:06:58.:07:07.

Argentina need points to show for all of this. It just slows down a

:07:08.:07:18.

little bit. They are playing good football at the minute, the

:07:19.:07:24.

Argentinians. Forward say the crowd but play on says the referee.

:07:25.:07:32.

I think they will be happy with things so far. Just a few things to

:07:33.:07:40.

give Argentina chances. Straight through! George North! There is no

:07:41.:07:52.

stopping him now. In four Wales's second try. A lovely step.

:07:53.:08:09.

Wales claim there was a knock-on. Wide it comes. Joaquin Tuculet.

:08:10.:08:30.

Advantage Argentina. Wales straying offside. The chance for the first

:08:31.:08:38.

points on the board. Nicolas Sanchez gathers them up.

:08:39.:08:53.

Held at the back by Toby Faletau. Mike Phillips. He looks inside.

:08:54.:09:02.

George North had just strayed in front of him. They had both wingers

:09:03.:09:11.

on that side. This penalty will be the last action of the first half. A

:09:12.:09:21.

wonderful kick. Five from five for Leigh Halfpenny. A very impressive

:09:22.:09:22.

first half for Wales. Toby Faletau plays scrum half.

:09:23.:09:38.

Richard Hibbard. There is a forward on the wing here so if they get it

:09:39.:09:43.

wide, there is a chance. Scott Williams through the gap. George

:09:44.:09:50.

North calling for it. This could be a great try. Leigh Halfpenny is

:09:51.:09:59.

there. The space appearing. Justin Tipuric. Liam Williams. Argentina

:10:00.:10:07.

get there in numbers now. Rhodri Jones. They looked certain they were

:10:08.:10:16.

going to score there, Wales. Wide it comes. George North again. Taken

:10:17.:10:24.

down around the ankles but coming back for a Welsh penalty.

:10:25.:10:30.

It did not end in a try but it does end in three more points for Wales.

:10:31.:10:43.

That was a good drive from Argentina. Scott Williams. Liam

:10:44.:10:54.

Williams. He takes it well. Liam Williams infield to Toby Faletau. A

:10:55.:11:02.

wonderful try for Toby Faletau! That is what we like to see, Leigh

:11:03.:11:07.

Halfpenny running the channel outside 13. He has got the pace. And

:11:08.:11:13.

brilliant, brilliant support play from Toby Faletau.

:11:14.:11:23.

A penalty for Wales now. Mike Phillips takes it quickly. Here come

:11:24.:11:33.

Wales again. Support outside from Liam Williams. Back inside for Leigh

:11:34.:11:41.

Halfpenny. Still Wales come. Gethin Jenkins. Justin Tipuric.

:11:42.:11:51.

Richard Hibbard in there. Wales, Wales, is the cry. Cory Allen with

:11:52.:12:01.

the little chip. George North tries to take the ball. Ken Owens, the

:12:02.:12:10.

replacement hooker for Wales. This is a very good attacking position.

:12:11.:12:15.

Let's see if they will go for the driving line-out here.

:12:16.:12:22.

Goodbody angles. The ball at the back with Ken Owens. Let's go. They

:12:23.:12:34.

are going faster now, driving towards that line. Down they go.

:12:35.:12:43.

Another try for Wales. They will be absolutely delighted. Ken Owens that

:12:44.:12:49.

is. To score a driving line-out against Argentina, very well worked.

:12:50.:12:56.

Totally in control. Paul James. Ken Owens dropped it. It

:12:57.:13:06.

seemed to go backwards but forwards says the rectory and that will be

:13:07.:13:10.

the end of things. Wales very happy with a very handsome win. 40-6.

:13:11.:13:20.

Wales have finally got the monkey off their back, ending a run of 11

:13:21.:13:24.

or two games without a win. It was really pleasing. It was the

:13:25.:13:36.

ability and vision at times to move the ball from the 22 behind our own

:13:37.:13:40.

line and the opportunities and chances we created, those are the

:13:41.:13:44.

kinds of things we have continued to work on. I was pleased with the

:13:45.:13:51.

scrum and the line-up today. Again, it was as good as last week. You

:13:52.:13:57.

always looking for a perfect performance and there's still a few

:13:58.:14:02.

things for us to work on. It's nice to get a winner. We haven't won

:14:03.:14:08.

since the 2009 series. It is a great feeling now that we have one. A lot

:14:09.:14:13.

of hard work and now we have a decent score line behind us. I think

:14:14.:14:19.

we made a lot of mistakes. Really expensive. The Welsh players played

:14:20.:14:23.

an awesome match, as well. We gave away too much this

:14:24.:14:37.

afternoon. Sometimes it's hard to get away with some of the stuff we

:14:38.:14:41.

tried today full you always tried to play a good brand of rugby and get

:14:42.:14:46.

the board is going. I think we managed to an appellate Argentina

:14:47.:14:50.

well. We managed to take apart in the last half an hour. Those

:14:51.:14:54.

injuries, they don't get easier, do they? It looks like Allen has

:14:55.:14:59.

deserted the shoulder. Scott Williams, he has damaged his toe.

:15:00.:15:07.

Radley Davis has hurt his shoulder. We have options. If we are

:15:08.:15:13.

desperate, we can put George in there. We want to see him. We are

:15:14.:15:18.

short on centres and wingers, so we may need to get some people in the

:15:19.:15:21.

week. We will talk about the injury crisis at the moment but we had

:15:22.:15:24.

Gethin Jenkins say they took Argentina apart in the second half.

:15:25.:15:29.

Warren Gatland said Wales had been guilty in the past of dropping down

:15:30.:15:32.

to the opposition babble. Was that more of a ruthless Wales yesterday?

:15:33.:15:38.

Yes, but you have got to take the opposition into account. They were

:15:39.:15:46.

not South Africa. Argentina RNA situation of transition. A new

:15:47.:15:52.

coach. That are in a. Wales went out there and do the job. They went out

:15:53.:15:58.

from the word go they had control. Control of the ball, defensively,

:15:59.:16:03.

very, very good. I think it was the workrate of most players. The work

:16:04.:16:09.

off the ball was fantastic. To get four tries and to dominate the

:16:10.:16:13.

second half, and to prevent Argentina from scoring was massive.

:16:14.:16:18.

I disagree. Argentina are a very good side and they do played to a

:16:19.:16:24.

high standard. That was a record score for Wales against Argentina.

:16:25.:16:26.

We've always struggled against them since day one. I thought it was an

:16:27.:16:31.

excellent performance from Wales. From start to finish. Full of

:16:32.:16:34.

positives. They must have delighted. Everything they tried

:16:35.:16:40.

came off. It was one of those days for Wales and they played really

:16:41.:16:47.

well. I'm sure they will play a lot worse than that and lose in the

:16:48.:16:50.

future but everything went right for Wales on the day and you have just

:16:51.:16:54.

got to take those big trees when they come. Argentina are full of

:16:55.:16:56.

good players but nothing went right for them. Maybe because we were

:16:57.:17:02.

sharp in defence, maybe a bit of everything, but that was a really

:17:03.:17:09.

good performance from Wales. Jonathan, I know you spoke to Warren

:17:10.:17:14.

Gatland about the aspect he wanted to improve on after South Africa.

:17:15.:17:18.

What were they? They matched South Africa physically and they wanted to

:17:19.:17:26.

work on the 1% of their game. They had opportunities to score 50 plus

:17:27.:17:31.

yesterday. The aerial game, I think that was a lot better. They kicked

:17:32.:17:38.

and chased better. This is a lovely kick into the corner. You can get

:17:39.:17:43.

the ball back onto the halfway line. They don't give him time whatsoever.

:17:44.:17:48.

Great chasing. They scramble across the field. They make a tackle. And,

:17:49.:17:54.

all of a sudden, they are in the 22 and get the ball back, which was

:17:55.:17:59.

great. The other thing was, a couple of breaks against South Africa, they

:18:00.:18:03.

didn't bust a gut. They gave up on the inside and outside support but

:18:04.:18:07.

that could have been a try scoring opportunity. Yesterday, every break,

:18:08.:18:15.

they chased and supported inside and out.

:18:16.:18:19.

This was a lovely chap. Watch the inside support runners. Options on

:18:20.:18:34.

both sides. -- clip. The only downside of this, they should've

:18:35.:18:36.

scored in that situation. This is brilliant. Scott Williams, look at

:18:37.:18:44.

this. Four forwards on their feet. The cuts them to pieces. George

:18:45.:18:48.

comes on the inside, maybe should've stayed on the outside. Watch the

:18:49.:18:54.

other two on the touchline. They get a pass away. The ball goes one pass

:18:55.:19:00.

a game, they scored but, unfortunately, they don't score, so

:19:01.:19:07.

they said they were going to work on that and they certainly showed that.

:19:08.:19:12.

I think the next 1% is when they do school, after the New Zealand game,

:19:13.:19:18.

I think the last example is the Faletau try. The scrum is under

:19:19.:19:24.

pressure. Straight out and Faletau is away. Allen fixes that guy and

:19:25.:19:30.

take the eyeliner of the outside centre which causes the winger to

:19:31.:19:36.

come in which I like to see. A good defence by Liam Williams. Faletau

:19:37.:19:41.

was brilliant yesterday, man of the match. It could've been Mike

:19:42.:19:44.

Phillips, Scott Williams, George North. Pickering man of the match

:19:45.:19:50.

was virtually impossible, but it's nice to be in that position that

:19:51.:19:56.

picking a man. It was a great performance. You saw yesterday, with

:19:57.:20:03.

the making breaks against Australia, they didn't finish off on

:20:04.:20:07.

the inside. Wales are creating, off-loading opportunities. At least

:20:08.:20:12.

they are creating and it's only a matter of time before things take

:20:13.:20:18.

off. Shaun Edwards was beaming in the press conference yesterday

:20:19.:20:20.

because they did not concede a single try in the game. It was a

:20:21.:20:25.

ruthless defensive effort yesterday. Since Warren came in, he wanted to

:20:26.:20:35.

improve the defence. 13 ospreys to play against England, because they

:20:36.:20:38.

wanted to bolster defence and the ospreys created that for them. A

:20:39.:20:43.

couple of things I picked up on yesterday. In the centre, you have

:20:44.:20:50.

players who are used to blitz defence. They push up here but then

:20:51.:20:55.

Liam Williams, three metres behind where he should be. But they are

:20:56.:21:01.

experienced the two make Argentina recycle and go through another

:21:02.:21:02.

phase. George North going back, releases

:21:03.:21:12.

11, to push up. Liam is waiting for Halfpenny to come across. He needs

:21:13.:21:17.

to come across behind the defensive line. Book. Fantastic. He can take a

:21:18.:21:31.

or B depending on the pass. Great defensive work. It took about 12

:21:32.:21:35.

months. We have George North doing exactly the same. They should

:21:36.:21:42.

release Liam Williams to push up. Now we have two forwards on the

:21:43.:21:46.

outside and a bit of lift. Not sure what to do. You can't allow them to

:21:47.:21:51.

play out there because they will eat you up and we all know what happened

:21:52.:21:57.

next. Scoring a try at the death to women. -- to win.

:21:58.:22:14.

Ashley back and James Beck should start the next game. We have to get

:22:15.:22:24.

the Australian game in perspective. Huge game, southern hemisphere

:22:25.:22:28.

scalp. We have to try to get a combination there. James Hook could

:22:29.:22:36.

start at 15. Do I pick a strong team to carry on the momentum to go into

:22:37.:22:42.

the game? Do I risk injuries? Do I take experience? Do I rest my key

:22:43.:22:47.

players? The centre and the wing are two areas of concern at the moment.

:22:48.:22:52.

We don't have the numbers. Williams is back fit. A number of options but

:22:53.:22:56.

I think we have to look ahead and James Hoch is a problem. There one

:22:57.:23:02.

centre playing the bar for the moment who everybody forgets about.

:23:03.:23:06.

It all depends on their selection policy. Do they rest Scott Williams

:23:07.:23:17.

or play him? Do you play Williams? James at ten? Here's such a great

:23:18.:23:24.

utility player. Do you play him the centre because of injuries? They

:23:25.:23:30.

haven't got the strength and depth over other nations unfortunately. We

:23:31.:23:34.

are talking about how good it is the youngsters are coming through, but

:23:35.:23:38.

we haven't got strength and depth. It would be dangerous to throw in

:23:39.:23:44.

these boys. If you put into centre, Biggar is a liar who wants to play

:23:45.:23:49.

every week and he gets better when he plays every week. -- he is a

:23:50.:23:58.

player. It's the toughest position of all, defence. You don't know

:23:59.:24:04.

what's around you. You have to trust everybody around you, inside and

:24:05.:24:11.

outside. Who was going to play against Australia? They need to be

:24:12.:24:19.

put in against Tonga. They need to have the ability to make mistakes

:24:20.:24:23.

against Tonga. I'm focusing on the defensive side. We need to shut them

:24:24.:24:31.

down. We will go into this after the programme. There were numerous

:24:32.:24:36.

candidates for man of the match but we must mention Gethin Jenkins, his

:24:37.:24:44.

100 cap. He really is one of the all-time bests. He does his work at

:24:45.:24:50.

scrum time but his work ethic on the field, he's one of the fittest guys

:24:51.:24:54.

in the squad. We have seen it constantly at the breakdown, he is

:24:55.:24:59.

constantly there charging down kicks. Offering himself as a

:25:00.:25:04.

ball-carrier. There's public affair bit left in him. He will keep going.

:25:05.:25:11.

He will probably break the record. And maybe even cracked a smile for

:25:12.:25:16.

something large and too Gethin Jenkins. Let's move on to the other

:25:17.:25:19.

international is over the weekend starting with England against New

:25:20.:25:23.

Zealand. New Zealand went to Twickenham looking for revenge after

:25:24.:25:27.

their defeat last year and were celebrating dan Carter's 100th cap

:25:28.:25:30.

and the all Blacks got off to a flying start.

:25:31.:25:37.

Here is the early chance. The early score, as well. Read, a lot of

:25:38.:25:52.

action early on. A good ball-carrier for England. Franks to the rescue

:25:53.:25:58.

for England. The tackle still had to be made. Here is Read. He is over

:25:59.:26:06.

for New Zealand's second try of the game. England regrouped. A little

:26:07.:26:13.

bit scrappy. The ball is on the floor and now it is down and over

:26:14.:26:28.

the line. A try for England. Farrell kicked 17 points and, with this,

:26:29.:26:32.

England took the lead. England lead New Zealand. But the visitors came

:26:33.:26:41.

back and Savea's second try gave them a hard-fought victory. Nonu

:26:42.:26:48.

thought about going himself. Here comes Savea. Has he got another one

:26:49.:26:52.

here? Yes, he has. New Zealand get the try. They found it tough going

:26:53.:27:02.

against insurgent Australia. Moore. A good angle by the Hawk-eye, get

:27:03.:27:09.

the pass away. A brilliant try. -- by the hooker. Another good pass

:27:10.:27:18.

from the hooker. Australia with numbers outside. Farley breaks free.

:27:19.:27:27.

You get the pass infield. The hooker from the back row scores Australia's

:27:28.:27:29.

second try. Quade Cooper, clean through. Set

:27:30.:27:43.

piece try. Quade Cooper. In a change of style, Australia's forthright

:27:44.:27:50.

came from Moore. His second of the match. The Australian centre was red

:27:51.:28:01.

carded for this tackle. But even with a one-man advantage, Ireland

:28:02.:28:03.

couldn't break through and the coach was left annoyed. Last week Scotland

:28:04.:28:11.

have a comfortable win against Japan but South Africa was a tougher

:28:12.:28:16.

challenge. Going for the defensive shot. And easy score to the

:28:17.:28:22.

line-out. He scored a try. It is given. Under pressure for most of

:28:23.:28:28.

the first half, Scotland were coming back into the match when the

:28:29.:28:32.

Springboks struck twice in quick succession. He is away. Nobody is

:28:33.:28:43.

going to catch him. An interception gives them a try against South

:28:44.:28:44.

Africa. Two men in front of him. La Roux. He

:28:45.:29:04.

doesn't get there. He will score! And, as the rain fell in the second

:29:05.:29:07.

half, South Africa went back to full strength.

:29:08.:29:15.

Carbon copy, once again, over the line. The try is given.

:29:16.:29:23.

A convincing win for South Africa over Scotland. To what extent is

:29:24.:29:29.

that what the result against Wales into perspective? It was a great

:29:30.:29:35.

performance by Wales last week but those 1% did not come through and

:29:36.:29:40.

that is why they lost. They took their chances and we did not. They

:29:41.:29:45.

are clearly the second-best team in the world. I just feel the two

:29:46.:29:52.

rolling mauls were far too simple. And Australia are never down for

:29:53.:29:58.

long, are they? They look to be improving. They are getting better.

:29:59.:30:04.

What they had yesterday for the first time in years was a scrum.

:30:05.:30:09.

Ewan McKenzie will have focused on that, knowing it is important to be

:30:10.:30:16.

the top opposition. Again, just watching the game, it is

:30:17.:30:18.

highlighting the fact that Australia, South Africa and New

:30:19.:30:22.

Zealand play rugby in the contact area. They can off-load, they can

:30:23.:30:28.

path. In the northern hemisphere, we played this side of the defensive

:30:29.:30:34.

line. You have got to put pressure on these top teams. England do it.

:30:35.:30:42.

They got the tactics right. That will be the difference. Yesterday,

:30:43.:30:48.

that's all they did, once they got any faceplate, they put it wide and

:30:49.:30:57.

they just fell through the defensive line. And then they got the off-load

:30:58.:31:06.

away. But Wales play an aggressive blitz defence so it will be

:31:07.:31:09.

interesting to see how they try to work that out. Everybody is saying

:31:10.:31:16.

Wales against Australia, it is an easy win. It is never an easy win

:31:17.:31:20.

against Australia. By the end of this tour they will have put their

:31:21.:31:25.

house in order. The scrum is now looking solid and they are always

:31:26.:31:30.

going to be dangerous. They are smart, intelligent players. Before

:31:31.:31:36.

Wales face the Wallabies, they will have the Tongans to play with. They

:31:37.:31:42.

may be a raft of changes for that game but what Heaven happens to Toby

:31:43.:31:46.

Faletau, it is sure to be a special occasion.

:31:47.:31:51.

Dynamic, skilful, strong and quick. Toby Faletau is fast becoming one of

:31:52.:31:55.

the best number eight in world rugby. His rise to the top has been

:31:56.:31:59.

meteoric and the journey there a little bit different from most. Born

:32:00.:32:05.

in Tonga in 1990, he lived until he was seven surrounded by palm trees,

:32:06.:32:09.

beaches and turquoise lagoons but when the Tongan national side toured

:32:10.:32:15.

Wales in 1997, a squad which included his dad, that is when fate

:32:16.:32:20.

intervened. The coach of that side was the father of Wales flanker

:32:21.:32:27.

Kingsley Jones. I was nagging my dad to try and help us out with a couple

:32:28.:32:31.

of Tongans, particularly second row and fullback. He arrived from Tonga.

:32:32.:32:41.

He was a big hit and a favourite at the club. After the first year,

:32:42.:32:48.

because the people in Ebbw Vale are so friendly and I feel at home,

:32:49.:32:56.

after two weeks, I feel I can carry on playing so I got back and told my

:32:57.:33:07.

wife and kids to come over. My earliest memories are coming down

:33:08.:33:11.

from training and seeing these two young Tongan lads hanging onto the

:33:12.:33:16.

roof of the clubhouse, jumping on the roof of your car, just typical

:33:17.:33:23.

young lads. And while Toby was familiarising himself with his new

:33:24.:33:27.

environment, his new friends were trying to familiarise themselves

:33:28.:33:30.

with the Tongan language, but struggling. When we first came over

:33:31.:33:40.

to Ebbw Vale, they went to school. They could not say his name so he

:33:41.:33:47.

just said, call me Toby. He wasted no time in following in his

:33:48.:33:59.

father's footsteps. This is Billy Vunipola with Kobe. Our mothers are

:34:00.:34:08.

distant relatives but we call ourselves cousins now. We pretty

:34:09.:34:13.

much grew up together checking a ball around, playing rugby. We never

:34:14.:34:20.

thought we would be on the Lions tour together. The brothers

:34:21.:34:35.

ultimately chose England over Wales. Although Toby Faletau played youth

:34:36.:34:38.

rugby over the border, there was never any danger of him trading the

:34:39.:34:44.

three feathers for the red rose. Not at all. He went to play at the

:34:45.:34:53.

Bristol Academy but I already told him, if you are good enough, you

:34:54.:35:00.

have to come back and play in Wales. The reality was he was more than

:35:01.:35:05.

good enough. A succession of barnstorming performances for the

:35:06.:35:08.

Dragons saw him named in the Wales under 20 squad. And while he was

:35:09.:35:18.

still a teenager, his profile, along with his Afro, was expanding

:35:19.:35:25.

rapidly. I still see this young lad starting to change. But the first

:35:26.:35:31.

few weeks training with him, it is really strange because I still see

:35:32.:35:35.

him as this young lad. Despite the growing attention, he remained

:35:36.:35:41.

grounded. His Tongan heritage and strong family values meant he never

:35:42.:35:47.

allowed his success go to his head. He was given a club car. The

:35:48.:35:54.

following day, he turns up in the old banger again. The reason was

:35:55.:35:58.

that he had given his car to his father to travel around in. That is

:35:59.:36:04.

not a surprise to me. That is family values that happens in Tonga. For

:36:05.:36:09.

most observers it was only a matter of time before the he ran out at the

:36:10.:36:14.

Millennium Stadium for his first full Welsh cap and he did so in

:36:15.:36:25.

2011. I tell him, now you are not a Tongan any more, this is your

:36:26.:36:28.

country. You have to die for your country. I was crying. To me, I told

:36:29.:36:49.

them, I was crying... He is a very quiet guy off the field and I

:36:50.:36:53.

suppose when he started in the international seal that was a big

:36:54.:36:55.

problem because he never said a word. But now he just does stuff and

:36:56.:37:05.

you think, I am glad is on my team. He is probably the most modest guy I

:37:06.:37:10.

have ever met and I tell him to wind him up. I honestly believe he is up

:37:11.:37:16.

there with the best number eight in world rugby. Up there with Kieran

:37:17.:37:20.

Read. But you can't accept a con -- compliment. Kieran Read is the best

:37:21.:37:27.

number eight in the world, in my opinion anyway. He likes things to

:37:28.:37:34.

go right. He likes players to be accurate and skill levels to be

:37:35.:37:39.

there. And I think we are lucky to have him at the moment. Hopefully he

:37:40.:37:44.

will continue to improve. I don't think we have seen the best of him

:37:45.:37:50.

yet. And if his best years are ahead of him, his next three at least will

:37:51.:37:54.

be in Wales. Despite the lure of big money abroad, he has decided to stay

:37:55.:38:01.

in Wales. We talked over the options and we both thought it was the best

:38:02.:38:04.

thing to stick around for another couple of years and see what happens

:38:05.:38:10.

after that. Sometimes you have to stay where you are. But don't

:38:11.:38:15.

forget, this is the club that gave you the chance to express yourself

:38:16.:38:20.

and you have a chance to play for Wales. Don't go with the money. A

:38:21.:38:29.

lot of people may be surprised he's decided to stay in Wales with the

:38:30.:38:34.

Dragons but it speaks volumes to his father and the family values and I

:38:35.:38:39.

wish more people would look at that. I think a lot of people out there

:38:40.:38:43.

would love to get their hands on Toby Faletau but he has committed

:38:44.:38:47.

himself and I think that needs to be recognised and rewarded as well. I

:38:48.:38:53.

was talking to someone earlier today saying I still sometimes reflect on

:38:54.:38:57.

where I am and a couple of years back I never thought I would be in

:38:58.:39:02.

this position at all. I am so thankful and grateful for this.

:39:03.:39:06.

A wonderful try for Toby Faletau! It was nice of him to put in a Man

:39:07.:39:17.

of the Match performance the week we decided to run a feature on him. A

:39:18.:39:25.

really modest bloke. As we saw in that feature, it goes to show that

:39:26.:39:28.

money is not the only factor when it comes to making these decisions. He

:39:29.:39:34.

is very popular with the players at the Dragons. He enjoys his rugby and

:39:35.:39:41.

he has freedom to do what he likes. I like his warm up. He runs around

:39:42.:39:46.

the field just kicking the ball in the air and catching it. All the

:39:47.:39:50.

sort of things you do when you are very young. He practices his

:39:51.:39:56.

goal-kicking is well like all good number eight. His game has come on a

:39:57.:40:04.

lot in the last two months! With Kingsley Jones! He is a great player

:40:05.:40:12.

but he is a great footballer. He does the right things at the right

:40:13.:40:19.

time. The passing, the support play. His values come from his family, in

:40:20.:40:25.

terms of the loyalty. There are a lot of good rugby players in Tonga

:40:26.:40:30.

so he has got the perfect balance. He has got lots of good attributes

:40:31.:40:33.

but he has got some weaknesses as well. I am sure you will put that

:40:34.:40:44.

right. He has got lots to come in his game. He can still be a great

:40:45.:40:49.

player. I just want to talk about next week

:40:50.:40:54.

now. What sort of team Warren Gatland should pick. Whether he

:40:55.:40:58.

should go full strength and build a bit of momentum. Given the injury

:40:59.:41:02.

situation, do you think you should pick a second string? The first

:41:03.:41:10.

thing is, they need to win. That is the first thing because

:41:11.:41:12.

international rugby, you are judged by results. It is always going to be

:41:13.:41:17.

one of those banana skins, purely down to the injuries. If we are

:41:18.:41:23.

anywhere near our full strength, we would be Tonga quite comfortably.

:41:24.:41:27.

But with injuries, there is an element of doubt. Whoever he picks,

:41:28.:41:33.

the forwards will be too strong for Tonga. Again, it is whether they

:41:34.:41:42.

save players for the big one at the end. We will have to wait and see.

:41:43.:41:47.

Selection is very personal to the coaches and it depends on how they

:41:48.:41:53.

see it. You could look at it and say there are seven or eight key players

:41:54.:41:56.

that we really want to be there for Australia. If you look back 12

:41:57.:42:04.

months ago to the Six Nations, Luke Charteris and Andrew Coombs were

:42:05.:42:06.

representing Wales and doing a really good job as well. If Alun Wyn

:42:07.:42:13.

Jones doesn't play and Bradley does not play, we have got two good

:42:14.:42:18.

second row players coming in. If you look at New Zealand, they have got

:42:19.:42:23.

30 international quality players. We have got to increase our pool of

:42:24.:42:26.

players if we are going to challenge. I think they will rest

:42:27.:42:33.

some key players. Scott Williams has got an injury, I don't think they

:42:34.:42:37.

will whisk him. Bradley Davies has got a shoulder problem, I don't

:42:38.:42:41.

think they will whisk him. But Ryan Jones has experience. If anything

:42:42.:42:50.

happens again Mike Phillips, we need Lloyd Williams to stepping so he

:42:51.:42:55.

needs some rugby. We will keep this chat going on

:42:56.:43:06.

Scrum V Extra Time. It is Tonga next up. We don't know whether Toby

:43:07.:43:10.

Faletau will be picked to play against the land of his fathers but

:43:11.:43:15.

if he does play and he does score, he won't be celebrating. It is not

:43:16.:43:17.

his style. I just don't see the point in

:43:18.:43:29.

jumping up and down. You could end up losing the game so you don't want

:43:30.:43:34.

to celebrate. I guess it is not in my nature.

:43:35.:43:39.

So simple, so effective. Thousands of people pass it

:43:40.:44:35.

every day, unaware it even exists - For 50 years, this white stone

:44:36.:44:41.

plaque has marked the weekend President John F Kennedy visited

:44:42.:44:49.

the Sussex village of Forest Row for a political summit

:44:50.:44:54.

at the height of the Cold War.
