On Scrum V tonight, the unbeaten Ospreys march on against Munster. | :00:19. | :00:27.
The Blues are down in Dublin. Elsewhere, the Scarlets return to | :00:28. | :00:32.
storm Edinburgh's fortress. While the Dragons attempts to rouse from | :00:33. | :00:41.
their slumber. And we beat the Kiwi who has taken | :00:42. | :00:45.
charge down West. What I have seen so far is it massive amount of | :00:46. | :00:50.
passion, more so than the region I have come from. | :00:51. | :00:54.
Good evening and welcome to another bumper edition of Scrum V. We will | :00:55. | :00:59.
be getting to grips with the action from run for the Pro12. I'm joined | :01:00. | :01:05.
by guests and we will be having the rest of the week 's news. | :01:06. | :01:09.
I will be joined by World Cup winner and head of rugby at the WRU, Josh | :01:10. | :01:14.
Lewsey, to discuss his plans about rejuvenating grass-roots rugby. | :01:15. | :01:21.
All that to come. We kick off with the match between Munster and the | :01:22. | :01:22.
Ospreys. Eli Walker was back on the wing for | :01:23. | :01:32.
the Ospreys while Dan Biggar was making his fourth consecutive start. | :01:33. | :01:37.
He will fly-half was hoping to maintain his 90% goal-kicking record | :01:38. | :01:41.
at a ground where Ospreys victories over Munster have always been slim. | :01:42. | :01:48.
Murray takes a slightly wider attack, just beneath the posts. Ian | :01:49. | :01:55.
Keatley is not needed. A pick and drive from the forwards. It is about | :01:56. | :01:59.
composure for both teams. Another little dink. A short ball. Through | :02:00. | :02:07.
Ian Keatley, wide ball across the line and that will be the opening | :02:08. | :02:25.
try for panda you are -- van der Heerwe. Possibly only a metre of go | :02:26. | :02:28.
forward. Dan Biggar. A good offload to Justin | :02:29. | :02:34.
Tipuric. Jeff Hassler will go over in the corner and that is down in no | :02:35. | :02:40.
small part to the footballing ability of Justin Tipuric. | :02:41. | :02:48.
And it is slowly, slowly from the Ospreys. Looking to make hard yards | :02:49. | :02:54.
up the middle. Dan Biggar, what can he do? Looks for Jeff Hassler. You | :02:55. | :02:59.
called it earlier. The block. Unlucky for the Ospreys. | :03:00. | :03:08.
The referee was right on the spot. Destruction. -- obstruction. There | :03:09. | :03:21.
is the ill discipline I talked about. | :03:22. | :03:24.
There is no need to take the man in the air. It is as clear as day. | :03:25. | :03:30.
Marie, game, and a great pressure from Rhys Webb. Van der Heerwe Takes | :03:31. | :03:51.
it forward and clears up from the scrum-half. | :03:52. | :03:56.
He wasn't involved. Went straight through the ball. | :03:57. | :04:06.
Kevin Morgan is looking on in the background. And normal service is | :04:07. | :04:12.
resumed from Batman. -- from that O'Donoghue. Certainly on the front | :04:13. | :04:30.
foot now. This time there is a big hit but he stands to hold the ball. | :04:31. | :04:36.
All hands to the pump for the Ospreys. The line is in sight. And | :04:37. | :04:41.
the have their tails up. The prop takes it on. The ball is turned | :04:42. | :04:49.
over. A shrill blast on the whistle from the referee. | :04:50. | :04:56.
19 red. Two metres short. Over the 80 | :04:57. | :05:04.
minutes. Surely, a try now would ruin it for the Ospreys. It's Jordi | :05:05. | :05:10.
Murphy. He picks up. The Ospreys try desperately hard. | :05:11. | :05:14.
He has knocked it on. 80 minutes are up on the clock. The | :05:15. | :05:21.
referee looks at his watch. That's full-time. A famous victory for the | :05:22. | :05:27.
Ospreys. It was a young squad we've got and | :05:28. | :05:31.
we are making no excuses but the way the boys toughed it out, the driving | :05:32. | :05:36.
line-out was superb. For us to come away with a win is what pleases us | :05:37. | :05:41.
most. Hopefully that is a big starts to build on. | :05:42. | :05:44.
Dan Biggar is keeping his feet on the ground but a lot of people wrote | :05:45. | :05:48.
the Ospreys off before the start of the season because they lost four | :05:49. | :05:56.
clients. The jury is out after three victories over inferior opposition | :05:57. | :05:59.
but that was stunning last night. They wanted to be judged within a | :06:00. | :06:03.
month and the month came after this game so that was the yardstick. I | :06:04. | :06:07.
don't know if we were writing them off but we didn't know what to | :06:08. | :06:10.
expect because they had lost so many players and there were so many | :06:11. | :06:13.
youngsters coming through. Also as an osprey, you are expected to win. | :06:14. | :06:24.
The youngsters have started to take leadership. As a team performance, I | :06:25. | :06:28.
think they will be extremely happy with going there and the resilience | :06:29. | :06:31.
they showed at the end to grind it out. | :06:32. | :06:37.
They have lost all those leaders but Dan Biggar has really stepped up. | :06:38. | :06:41.
His partnership with Rhys Webb yesterday, they controlled the game | :06:42. | :06:45.
masterfully and effectively kept Munster out. | :06:46. | :06:47.
The key word there is a partnership. They have got a fantastic | :06:48. | :06:53.
understanding of each other's game. Dan Biggar was attacking the line a | :06:54. | :06:57.
lot and just the ability of the likes of Rhys Webb to find support | :06:58. | :07:02.
inside. Again, he is great and the high ball, Dan Biggar. He is | :07:03. | :07:06.
constantly up, making things happen. Rhys Webb back in the action. | :07:07. | :07:12.
Throughout the game yesterday there was total control in their | :07:13. | :07:18.
performance. They had a powerful platform. He really has stepped up | :07:19. | :07:24.
to the mark. He bosses the forwards and calls the shots, making things | :07:25. | :07:30.
happen. When it comes to where you want to play territorially, there is | :07:31. | :07:34.
no one better in Wales than Dan Biggar at the moment than making | :07:35. | :07:38.
sure the forwards get up from scrums and rucks and find themselves | :07:39. | :07:43.
downfield. That was evidence. As a partnership moving forward, there | :07:44. | :07:49.
are no to better players in Wales. Are we looking at the Wales | :07:50. | :07:52.
half-back partnership? You have got to look at | :07:53. | :07:55.
partnerships. If you go with Gareth Davies may be you go with Priestland | :07:56. | :08:03.
or Rhys Webb and Dan Biggar. That is up to Warren Gatland. The Ospreys | :08:04. | :08:09.
boys are playing better as a unit. People are saying their stars have | :08:10. | :08:12.
gone but they have a good backbone in the Ospreys and the front row is | :08:13. | :08:18.
strong. Alun Wyn Jones, of course. Good defenders. The halfbacks are | :08:19. | :08:26.
solid and the game management is exceptional. Maybe there is a lack | :08:27. | :08:30.
of creativity but they had a chance yesterday and they took it. Dan | :08:31. | :08:36.
Evans is also safe. I love their attitude. It is a throwback to my | :08:37. | :08:41.
days at Neath because everybody hated us but we don't care. It | :08:42. | :08:45.
showed in their defence. If you go to muster you have to defend well. | :08:46. | :08:50.
Watch the line speed because it is quick but also they have the | :08:51. | :08:54.
confidence to spot and come out of the line. When you do that, they | :08:55. | :08:59.
fill in behind. He makes the tackle but then the umbrella defence, | :09:00. | :09:04.
Andrew Bishop is up there. They are still pushing and putting them under | :09:05. | :09:09.
pressure. Aggressive defence. Here we are again. They are well | :09:10. | :09:12.
organised and they don't put many people on the ground. Munster were | :09:13. | :09:18.
laying very deep, which played into the Ospreys hands. Aggressive | :09:19. | :09:22.
defence, not committing many men to the ruck. They varied the defence as | :09:23. | :09:28.
well. That was the most pleasing aspect for me. They couldn't work | :09:29. | :09:34.
them out. It all comes down to execution because you can do | :09:35. | :09:36.
everything in training but execution and attitude. They didn't do many | :09:37. | :09:40.
errors yesterday and they didn't miss... There was a bit of a | :09:41. | :09:46.
discipline but I think it was a tremendous performance with dreadful | :09:47. | :09:52.
weather. I think they have been very solid and a great attitude is the | :09:53. | :09:55.
key for me. The defence throughout was | :09:56. | :10:01.
impeccable but that rear guide? Guard action when Munster were | :10:02. | :10:05.
laying siege to the line, did I give you an idea of the character of the | :10:06. | :10:10.
squad? It says a lot when you can defend | :10:11. | :10:14.
your own line in the 80th minute and you are defending as strong as you | :10:15. | :10:18.
would. With the enthusiasm as well. Not just because it was an outcome | :10:19. | :10:23.
of the result but they backed each other. One would come out of the | :10:24. | :10:27.
line and the other would back him. The resilience they showed. They | :10:28. | :10:31.
were picking each other up off the floor when they made good tackles. | :10:32. | :10:35.
To know that your team-mate is there with you means that you attack | :10:36. | :10:41.
things at 100%. We have to leave it there. Let's | :10:42. | :10:45.
turn our attention to the Scarlets and they travelled to Edinburgh with | :10:46. | :10:48.
confidence after they beat Treviso last week. | :10:49. | :10:57.
The captain Ken Owens was ruled out for 12 weeks with a neck injury | :10:58. | :11:03.
before the game. Gareth Davies was ruled out with concussion and there | :11:04. | :11:09.
was a return to action for Samson Lee, thrust back in after serving a | :11:10. | :11:15.
suspension for a head-butt. Conditions are great this evening | :11:16. | :11:20.
and as we have already heard, the Scarlets are in good try scoring | :11:21. | :11:24.
form this season and already have a chance to attack immediately. | :11:25. | :11:30.
Gareth Owen is looking for space behind and that is the dink through. | :11:31. | :11:38.
Harry Robinson thinks he may have got through. The Scarlets may have | :11:39. | :11:42.
struck as early as 40 seconds into the game. Harry Robinson diving onto | :11:43. | :11:46.
a loose ball and it looks as though he has got the try. Yes, try has | :11:47. | :11:55.
been given. The referee says yes. What a start for the Scarlets! | :11:56. | :12:05.
Atkins puts in the tackle. A deep pass. Gareth Owen. Add to Liam | :12:06. | :12:17.
Williams. He checks back inside but loses the ball as he hits the gap | :12:18. | :12:20.
with the try line at his mercy. This time Scott Williams just take | :12:21. | :12:39.
the hit and again, the Scarlets complaining that bodies are lying | :12:40. | :12:43.
over the ball. They can quickly by Aled Davies who almost breaks free. | :12:44. | :12:47.
A pop-up pass and Liam Williams gets the try this time. It has been a | :12:48. | :12:53.
long time coming but quick thinking from Aled Davies and great support | :12:54. | :12:56.
from Liam Williams gives the Scarlets full back their second try. | :12:57. | :13:06.
The crowd finally getting something to cheer about. A great offload. | :13:07. | :13:16.
Just short of the try line. Cuthbert. Desperate tackling from | :13:17. | :13:18.
the Scarlets but they have got men on the far side and it is a walk-in | :13:19. | :13:24.
for Tim Visser. Edinburgh strike back just before half-time. | :13:25. | :13:37.
Kennedy once more forwards and the team obliges. Kennedy arrives and | :13:38. | :13:42.
pops it up. And Phil Burleigh barges his way over. | :13:43. | :13:48.
We should have come away with more points. We were happy with a man | :13:49. | :13:54.
down just to get two points in the last few minutes and to tap and go | :13:55. | :13:58.
it was a little bit disorganised. A poor decision. | :13:59. | :14:03.
Just to clear that up, that came from an field, not on high, that | :14:04. | :14:09.
decision to keep the game? We were ready to take a couple of | :14:10. | :14:14.
points and we were disappointed we had 14 men out on our feet. A little | :14:15. | :14:19.
bit disorganised. A lot of the senior players were off the field. | :14:20. | :14:25.
That was inexperienced. Wayne Pivack was not happy with the decision made | :14:26. | :14:30.
on the field in the dying seconds. I asked this to Phil Davies, was that | :14:31. | :14:36.
raised or for Harvey -- brave or foolhardy? | :14:37. | :14:41.
You have got to assess how your players are. If you have got | :14:42. | :14:44.
forwards willing to carry the ball, then you have an opportunity to | :14:45. | :14:50.
kick, then yes. If you click then you get the draw. They should have | :14:51. | :14:55.
put the game away. They blew it and they should have won it. The same | :14:56. | :15:00.
against Ulster. They are in a controlling position to win and they | :15:01. | :15:05.
don't. That could cost them. Twice they have had a commanding | :15:06. | :15:08.
lead against Ulster and then an Edinburgh. Twice they have fallen | :15:09. | :15:13.
away in the second half or at least the last quarter. | :15:14. | :15:15.
Why is that happening? Is an issue they have got to address because a | :15:16. | :15:19.
lot of people are talking about the Scarlets as the Welsh side of the | :15:20. | :15:24.
season because they have got talented players and they have | :15:25. | :15:27.
always had a strong set piece but this year you can see it creaking a | :15:28. | :15:32.
little. The scrum isn't so powerful. They haven't got the | :15:33. | :15:35.
platform they had in the past but I think there is a concern because you | :15:36. | :15:39.
can't afford to throw away leads like they have done. I think Wayne | :15:40. | :15:45.
Pivack will be addressing that. Gareth, I suppose it is the opposite | :15:46. | :15:49.
of the Ospreys because they seem to galvanise in the last ten minutes | :15:50. | :15:53.
when the pressure is on. The Scarlets seem to fall away in the | :15:54. | :15:57.
last 20. I think it is game management | :15:58. | :16:00.
because you pay it differently in regards to the scoreboard. If you | :16:01. | :16:05.
are up and away from home then you play completely differently. You use | :16:06. | :16:09.
your Number ten and play in your heart. Sometimes they can get | :16:10. | :16:14.
reckless when there is no need. Thanks. It is sure to be a big week | :16:15. | :16:19.
for the Scarlets and Wayne Pivack. We caught up with him to see how he | :16:20. | :16:25.
is settling in as head coach. Every single one of you, think about | :16:26. | :16:30.
it, think about it. You belong to something unique and | :16:31. | :16:36.
that is Llanelli rugby club. Things are a little different down West and | :16:37. | :16:41.
this is heart and soul rugby country. | :16:42. | :16:44.
Rugby courses through the veins here and the new man is under no | :16:45. | :16:47.
illusions about the strength of feeling among the fans. | :16:48. | :16:51.
What I have seen so far is a massive amount of passion, more so than the | :16:52. | :16:56.
region I have come from. The man in the street is so knowledgeable, so | :16:57. | :17:00.
passionate and keen to talk to you about the team, players. I don't | :17:01. | :17:05.
mind that. It just tells me how passionate the community is about | :17:06. | :17:10.
the team and the team doing well. That motivates me to do the best I | :17:11. | :17:14.
can to get the players to perform on a Saturday. | :17:15. | :17:18.
The last time Wayne Pivack was here he was in charge of Fiji and coach | :17:19. | :17:23.
them to within two points of a famous victory against Wales. He | :17:24. | :17:30.
returned to New Zealand in 2007, coaching Auckland before travelling | :17:31. | :17:34.
to West Wales himself in his new environment. | :17:35. | :17:42.
I had people say to me that a lot of players and management live outside | :17:43. | :17:47.
of Llanelli and they travel up 40 or 50 minutes, maybe coming down the M4 | :17:48. | :17:53.
from Cardiff. I had a chat to Steve Hansen who I have known for many | :17:54. | :17:56.
years because we were in the together and coached together. His | :17:57. | :18:02.
suggestion was to immerse yourself in the local community and the | :18:03. | :18:04.
culture because you have got a special region and enjoy it. | :18:05. | :18:12.
All that pressure from the Scarlets is turned into points. | :18:13. | :18:16.
We talk about the north and south divide but what are the differences | :18:17. | :18:19.
you have noticed? Definitely the amount of contact we | :18:20. | :18:23.
do at training, the physicality we bring to training sessions is | :18:24. | :18:26.
probably down compared to what we do at home. The Pacific Islanders like | :18:27. | :18:34.
to act is the way they play. It does raise the standard for everybody | :18:35. | :18:37.
across the board but that is not to say we have to be knocking the | :18:38. | :18:42.
stuffing out of each other. It is a little shift. | :18:43. | :18:46.
We all like to think about the Scarlets as a team that plays | :18:47. | :18:50.
running rugby but how much is a balance? | :18:51. | :18:53.
We have got a great tradition in the way we play the game and it is | :18:54. | :18:56.
similar to back home. The attack was always going to take care of itself. | :18:57. | :19:02.
We need to be expansive because we have got players who enjoys out -- | :19:03. | :19:08.
enjoy that. We want to play that way but some teams just don't have that | :19:09. | :19:14.
mindset or ability. I would rather have a team that attacks and could | :19:15. | :19:18.
score tries, provided we can score more than the opposition. The key | :19:19. | :19:23.
for us now is to have the same energy levels and enthusiasm in | :19:24. | :19:27.
defence as we do in attack. Any Kiwi arriving in this part of | :19:28. | :19:31.
the world will be aware of that historic day in 1972 when Llanelli | :19:32. | :19:36.
beat the all Blacks. The town was famously drunk dry and the shock | :19:37. | :19:41.
waves resonated across the rugby world. | :19:42. | :19:44.
I have told this story before, ten years of age and upset because the | :19:45. | :19:51.
mighty all Blacks lost against a provincial team. I have never | :19:52. | :19:54.
forgotten that and coming here it was a privilege to come to the | :19:55. | :19:58.
Scarlets. Guys like Gareth Jenkins working in the office next door. We | :19:59. | :20:03.
have a bit of banter and working in the office next door. We | :20:04. | :20:52.
to win but we need to get the performances right on a weekly | :20:53. | :20:53.
basis. The best of luck. | :20:54. | :21:01.
Enjoy your Welsh kick. They were good Welsh cakes. He is a | :21:02. | :22:45.
Enjoy your Welsh kick. Selection is key in this day and age | :22:46. | :22:47.
and you have got to target the top six. | :22:48. | :22:50.
It might be put to the test this week as they prepare to get over to | :22:51. | :22:53.
the draw. Over to you. It has been a busy week | :22:54. | :22:59.
for Rhys Patchell. As well as protect preparing for the match | :23:00. | :23:05.
against Leinster, he showed support for the WRU initiative to get more | :23:06. | :23:11.
schoolchildren into rugby. He is one of the rising stars as | :23:12. | :23:15.
Cardiff Blues but earlier this week, he went back to his roots to lend | :23:16. | :23:21.
his support to a WRU and schools initiative that has seen 43 | :23:22. | :23:26.
full-time rugby officer posts being creative. The aim is to increase the | :23:27. | :23:31.
amount of rugby being played in schools and clubs. | :23:32. | :23:36.
The school is a massively untapped resource in terms of participation | :23:37. | :23:41.
levels and getting kids to play the game and to give them the | :23:42. | :23:45.
opportunity. Gareth Bale may have been a world-class rugby player but | :23:46. | :23:51.
he chose football. I mean, it is vitally important they play on a | :23:52. | :23:54.
Wednesday in the regional leagues, which means they are free to play on | :23:55. | :23:58.
Saturday and then maybe twice a week, learn twice a week and that | :23:59. | :24:03.
can only be positive. The school club officers include | :24:04. | :24:11.
Steve Jones and involves semiprofessional coaches and | :24:12. | :24:13.
players. It is about producing the players | :24:14. | :24:19.
from school and then pushing them and signposting them into the clubs | :24:20. | :24:23.
and where they can play their rugby on the Sunday with the clubs and | :24:24. | :24:27.
with us in the week in school. As they get older they will go up the | :24:28. | :24:31.
league and hopefully you can produce players who go into the youth and | :24:32. | :24:35.
then in three years they will be playing senior rugby. | :24:36. | :24:39.
I'm pleased to say that World Cup winner and head of rugby at the WRU, | :24:40. | :24:46.
Josh Lucy, is with us now. Building on a recent review, can you give us | :24:47. | :24:52.
more explanation? It is a part of a broader strategy, | :24:53. | :24:58.
and attempt to underpin the long-term needs of the league and | :24:59. | :25:03.
community game. One thing we found amongst the review in looking at the | :25:04. | :25:07.
underlying structures and systems in the game is there is a lot of | :25:08. | :25:11.
convoluted structures and friction between schools and clubs. For us it | :25:12. | :25:16.
is about putting the framework in place so they can flourish. | :25:17. | :25:21.
What were the problems before? I think in terms of having to | :25:22. | :25:27.
provide real leadership and offer the appropriate development at the | :25:28. | :25:31.
appropriate age, creating a link between the national team and | :25:32. | :25:33.
grassroots and making sure the content of what the guys deliver is | :25:34. | :25:40.
disseminated across Wales. These are challenges we are trying | :25:41. | :25:44.
to address. 43 posts have been created but is this just beginning? | :25:45. | :25:50.
Let's hope so. Our intention is to grow. It is always a question of | :25:51. | :25:56.
resources and as part of the union's ongoing review, either they | :25:57. | :25:59.
have to be allocated from elsewhere or looking for sponsors. In terms of | :26:00. | :26:04.
return of investment, 50,000 boys and girls, teaching them the right | :26:05. | :26:09.
values and the right parts of the game in Wales is a fantastic | :26:10. | :26:13.
opportunity to do something special. Thanks for coming in. I can only | :26:14. | :26:18.
imagine the panel have strong opinions. | :26:19. | :26:22.
Jonathan, you have long banned the drum for this. -- and the drum. I | :26:23. | :26:36.
played rugby for my school and my team. | :26:37. | :26:39.
It is about making the link because kids in school are a captive | :26:40. | :26:44.
audience. Single parents can't drop off their parents on the weekend to | :26:45. | :26:48.
play maybe. It is a great initiative and fantastic to see them working | :26:49. | :26:54.
together. The 43 officers, I was very lucky because I had a great | :26:55. | :26:57.
schoolteacher who put me on the right road to rugby union. I am | :26:58. | :27:02.
delighted. I understand you have been getting | :27:03. | :27:06.
your boots muddy? I have been working with children | :27:07. | :27:11.
for aspirational stuff as well. This is a great initiative and when I | :27:12. | :27:17.
look at the Child, for instance, who would benefit from this, he wouldn't | :27:18. | :27:21.
just benefit in Iraq the way because if you give children the opportunity | :27:22. | :27:29.
to play rugby, -- in a rugby way. Then maybe you would find the next | :27:30. | :27:36.
big player because of this but that child will be given an opportunity | :27:37. | :27:39.
to have great values and understand what it means to be part of the | :27:40. | :27:44.
team. That, to me, is why this initiative is a great way of helping | :27:45. | :27:49.
the children. Well fed. Let's get stuck into the Pro12 game. | :27:50. | :28:04.
The Blues were in Dublin . Sam Warburton was back for the Blues | :28:05. | :28:08.
after being rested last week, while Gethin Jenkins was declared fit for | :28:09. | :28:13.
his first start of the season. George Watkins made his debut after | :28:14. | :28:16.
impressing with five tries in two games for Cardiff RFC. | :28:17. | :28:23.
The Leinster defence under pressure. Josh Navidi snap it up. Gareth | :28:24. | :28:35.
Davies. Fanning in with the tackle. The child is still on for the Blues. | :28:36. | :28:38.
Coming back into this game after early pressure. Gavin Hewitt. Lewis | :28:39. | :28:48.
Jones. Josh Turnbull knocks it on. That could be something for colony | :28:49. | :28:51.
on the counterattack. Back goes Cuthbert. He looks to open it out. | :28:52. | :29:00.
He is brought down by Jamie Heaslip. Lewis Jones is appealing for a | :29:01. | :29:02.
penalty and he will get one. There it is for Eoin Reddan. Ryan is | :29:03. | :29:17.
stopped in his tracks. Jimmy Gopperth. This is Ruddock on the | :29:18. | :29:24.
charge, hitting the line at speed and fending off Jones. Rhys Ruddock | :29:25. | :29:29.
has got the first try of the game at 38 minutes, which will delight his | :29:30. | :29:35.
dad. This is Eoin Reddan. And Leinster | :29:36. | :29:41.
looking to put width on it. They have got around the Blues defence. | :29:42. | :29:47.
Timing his past to the young replacement on half-time. Bouncing | :29:48. | :29:51.
through the tackle and he has got there. | :29:52. | :29:57.
More possession for Eoin Reddan. Jimmy Gopperth. A little step | :29:58. | :30:05.
unlocks the Blues fans. Gordon D'Arcy is over. The first game this | :30:06. | :30:10.
season. Cardiff Blues now looking on the back foot. This is Devin Toner. | :30:11. | :30:24.
Jamie Heaslip. He is stopped by Warburton. A crossfield kick for | :30:25. | :30:32.
McFadden but it is too high for him. Gareth Davies takes it quickly, to | :30:33. | :30:37.
Corey Allen. Looking to put pressure on the defence. Corey Allen has lost | :30:38. | :30:46.
it. He adds the first Blues try in nearly four hours of rugby. | :30:47. | :30:54.
Can The Blues put a bit of a on this one? Adam Thomas. Support from Sam | :30:55. | :31:06.
Warburton. He is over. The Blues looked to be back in it. It will go | :31:07. | :31:17.
to the video referee. Can you check the final pass? The pass inside came | :31:18. | :31:23.
off a Leinster defender. The try is good. Cardiff lose back in | :31:24. | :31:34.
contention. -- Cardiff lose. They have got one point. They are looking | :31:35. | :31:41.
to run it out from defence. Gareth Davies has lost it in contact. It is | :31:42. | :31:46.
snapped up. Look McGrath goes the post. Leinster have got their bonus | :31:47. | :31:54.
point. The Blues will go home pointless. | :31:55. | :32:03.
They came back admirably. But they conceded the try in the last minute | :32:04. | :32:07.
and left Dublin was nothing to show for their efforts. How will they | :32:08. | :32:11.
feel? Massively disappointed. It was their best formance by some distance | :32:12. | :32:18.
this year. But I think psychologically, to come away with | :32:19. | :32:21.
nothing and then look ahead to two games, they have the Ospreys and | :32:22. | :32:28.
Connacht and are both playing well, it will be tough for them. -- | :32:29. | :32:35.
performance. Defensively, they got rushed of a lot of tackles and that | :32:36. | :32:38.
is an area of concern. But look at it. When they are in that position, | :32:39. | :32:46.
they have to take the bonus point. As I said, it does not matter who | :32:47. | :32:51.
you have as a defensive coach or as a head coach. If you fall of tackles | :32:52. | :32:57.
you will not win games. That is what happened in a lot of those tackles. | :32:58. | :33:02.
You can have the best systems in the world. You lose games. Is that a | :33:03. | :33:11.
concern? It is. I have played for The Blues and watch them this year. | :33:12. | :33:17.
To me, the defence is personal. If you have a one-on-one tackle to | :33:18. | :33:20.
make, it is your responsibility to make it. We know sometimes we missed | :33:21. | :33:28.
tackles and sometimes we make them, but to fall off as many as they did, | :33:29. | :33:34.
something is going wrong some work. It is personal. You need to work on | :33:35. | :33:38.
this. It comes down to one-on-one. If the guy is running harder than | :33:39. | :33:42.
you are willing to tackle, he will run over you. The fixture list is | :33:43. | :33:45.
looking increasingly long -- wanting. Can you see them getting | :33:46. | :33:51.
anything out of their next two games? Apart from Treviso, everyone | :33:52. | :34:00.
will be tough. That does not matter who you are. The competition for | :34:01. | :34:05.
qualification is key. Every point is important. If they lose these two, | :34:06. | :34:10.
they have a fight to get back into the top six. That is what the season | :34:11. | :34:16.
is all about. Let's move on to Catalan Dragons. And to contribute | :34:17. | :34:23.
so earlier on this afternoon. -- they took on Treviso. Lee Byrne was | :34:24. | :34:31.
back to lead the home side. Ashton Smith returns to add experience to | :34:32. | :34:34.
the backline. Andy Powell got the nod at line side. The Dragons went | :34:35. | :34:39.
in search of their first win of the season. | :34:40. | :34:48.
Looking to get Treviso over the gain line. Intercepted. This will be an | :34:49. | :35:02.
easy run-in. It is the youngster who moves in for the first try. Andy | :35:03. | :35:15.
Powell does well. A chance for the Dragons to counter from here. They | :35:16. | :35:23.
switch it. He has a moss on his left. Great finish. The South | :35:24. | :35:34.
African is there. Evans is trying to rip it clearer. Jonathan Evans. They | :35:35. | :35:45.
must go. It is a stroll for Ashley Smith. He rounds it off. | :35:46. | :35:55.
The Dragons have raised the tempo. That is great plague. What a try for | :35:56. | :36:11.
Jonathan Evans! A great team effort. Looking to drive it. There he is. He | :36:12. | :36:24.
has got there! Very difficult for the Dragons now. Has he got there? | :36:25. | :36:35.
Surely the try has come for Treviso? We are happy for you. We do not want | :36:36. | :36:45.
the results to take the focus away from the performance. We took a step | :36:46. | :36:52.
forward today. It is better than me have first-team and experienced | :36:53. | :36:55.
players coming back from injury. -- then when we have. Two other results | :36:56. | :37:02.
to catch up on. Glasgow's flying start to the season continues. They | :37:03. | :37:06.
triumphed over Connacht. Zebra beat Ulster. Ospreys retain the top spot. | :37:07. | :37:19.
Bolster and Connacht make up the top four. -- Ulster. In the bottom | :37:20. | :37:27.
half, the Scarlets and The Blues dropped to seventh and ninth | :37:28. | :37:29.
respectively. The Dragons go to eighth. Interesting words from Lyn | :37:30. | :37:35.
Jones. They are pleased with where they are. They did make heavy | :37:36. | :37:41.
weather of that. The win was important. A confidence booster, | :37:42. | :37:48.
that is all. They had a run of defeats. It can become a habit. It | :37:49. | :37:56.
is getting the balance, getting it right. It is a game they had to win. | :37:57. | :38:02.
They were never going to lose. It fell off a little bit in the second | :38:03. | :38:06.
half but they got a bonus point. Reborn. Is this a new chapter? They | :38:07. | :38:15.
had injury problems. There are a lot of new players there. It will take | :38:16. | :38:21.
time. From now on, it will be about results. We expect them to be moving | :38:22. | :38:28.
up the table. Briefly, Gareth, what about that result against Ulster? | :38:29. | :38:35.
Declan Fitzpatrick sent off after 11 minutes. But you still fancied | :38:36. | :38:40.
Ulster to come back? Well, good on the French side! It has shown that | :38:41. | :38:48.
teams going out there and not having the motivation they should have had, | :38:49. | :38:51.
they will come unstuck. Over to Bethan. We are in week three of the | :38:52. | :39:00.
Premiership. Any surprises? A lot of surprise results! Defending | :39:01. | :39:07.
champions Pontypridd left things a little late before securing their | :39:08. | :39:13.
win of the season. Bridgend took the lead after a try from Flatley. Three | :39:14. | :39:20.
second-half tries but the hosts included this one. It gave them a | :39:21. | :39:29.
bonus point win. The Ravens went home empty-handed. Carmarthenshire | :39:30. | :39:40.
Derby ensued. Adams crossed for the first try of the season. The | :39:41. | :39:53.
visitors took the lead. Having supper to heavy defeats Newport | :39:54. | :40:02.
-based Ebbw Vale. They came away with an unexpected victory. John | :40:03. | :40:07.
Morris scored the only try for Newport. It was the boot of the | :40:08. | :40:15.
Black and Amber's O'Driscoll which scored 17 points. Bridge Field saw a | :40:16. | :40:31.
thrilling match. It was the visitors who scored first. They went on to | :40:32. | :40:39.
build a comfortable 31-10 lead. Despite two tries within two minutes | :40:40. | :40:42.
in the second half, they could not complete the comeback. Abba Ravin | :40:43. | :40:50.
were the worthy winners. Cardiff took an early 10-0 lead against | :40:51. | :40:57.
Cross Keys. Cardiff had to welsh capped players in their side. It was | :40:58. | :41:03.
Lloyd Lewis who caught the eye with a superb individual try. The | :41:04. | :41:07.
visitors claimed their fourth successive win. Both sides fielded | :41:08. | :41:16.
to regional players. The Ospreys player got me off to a flying start. | :41:17. | :41:25.
Scarlets wing Phillips scored twice. They secured a third successive win. | :41:26. | :41:31.
That defeat for Neath lead them rooted at the bottom of the table. | :41:32. | :41:36.
Pontypridd and Carmarthen remain the only two undefeated sites. From the | :41:37. | :41:48.
Premiership and we go now to Anglesey. Now that we have the cup, | :41:49. | :41:58.
the plate and the bold, the prospect of a once-in-a-lifetime appearance | :41:59. | :42:01.
at the Millennium Stadium really adds extra spice to cup day. This | :42:02. | :42:12.
Division 2 team are hoping to make the long journey south. They have to | :42:13. | :42:19.
overcome the team from Division 3 who made the journey from Wrexham. | :42:20. | :42:25.
We went down from Division 1 to Division 2. We have got a very good | :42:26. | :42:32.
team and we are fighting back. We are going to try and go back up. We | :42:33. | :42:38.
have two players in the team who haven't played for the junior team | :42:39. | :42:41.
and the youth team. It is working well. You are from... Stockport, | :42:42. | :42:51.
Coventry. You learn the language? I have. Can you give me a hand in | :42:52. | :42:57.
pronouncing your opposition today? No, I cannot. Come on, boys! We are | :42:58. | :43:14.
very proud of what we have. We are proud of the scenery. We have some | :43:15. | :43:20.
committed young lads coming through. Let's hope there is room for | :43:21. | :43:26.
improvement. I think this is going to be a long afternoon. Almost as | :43:27. | :43:33.
long as their name! They do look a well Jill team. They are very tidy. | :43:34. | :43:45.
-- well drilled. We have many North Wales players that have gone through | :43:46. | :43:49.
to the national side. One of them is still coaching. Are you talking | :43:50. | :44:00.
about McBride? I am. Things are not going well for you, unfortunately. | :44:01. | :44:07.
We are struggling for numbers today. One of the lads has just got | :44:08. | :44:11.
engaged. We are trying to make the most of it! Every cloud has a silver | :44:12. | :44:17.
lining! We have a bit of a suntan, as well. Are you a former player? | :44:18. | :44:24.
No, I am not. Just in love with the game. I am. A food all? Only joking! | :44:25. | :44:40.
As that camera not run out of film yet? How proud would you be as a | :44:41. | :44:45.
grandfather to watch them play at the Millennium Stadium? I would be | :44:46. | :44:52.
the first one there. We do? Yes. It would be great if they managed. | :44:53. | :44:56.
Really fantastic. We would all be there to mention Mark first, she is | :44:57. | :45:03.
second, and you will have be third! All right. There seems to be some | :45:04. | :45:10.
confusion. How many tries have you scored? It was eight in the end. He | :45:11. | :45:21.
has turned you into a have tidy player! Yes, it has worked well for | :45:22. | :45:27.
me! Not a bad result. Greg Horsman scored eight tries. Incidentally, | :45:28. | :45:35.
Northampton have jumped above Bath in the Aviva Premiership table. | :45:36. | :45:44.
Thank you. We turn our attention to next week. Another Welsh derby. | :45:45. | :45:47.
Scarlets take on well as he could have. He has | :45:48. | :46:02.
struggled a little. Liam Williams is just on fire. Fantastic and | :46:03. | :46:07.
everything, attack and defence. We can see here. He has started the | :46:08. | :46:15.
season fantastically well. The old head, Lee Byrne... He will always | :46:16. | :46:21.
put in a performance when it comes to a local derby. He will relish the | :46:22. | :46:26.
opportunity. He wants to play against the Scarlets. He has a great | :46:27. | :46:34.
left foot. It is his ability to hit the line that has poured in. I am | :46:35. | :46:39.
looking forward to this. -- that is important. He is one of the players | :46:40. | :46:46.
of the season, Liam Williams. Lee Byrne has opened | :46:47. | :48:46.
of the season, Liam Williams. Lee We believe you with a tribute to a | :48:47. | :48:48.
colleague of ours who after nearly 60 years in the industry has decided | :48:49. | :48:52.
to hang up his microphone. Good night. But the past 26 years Delhi | :48:53. | :49:00.
Griffiths has delighted radio Wales listeners on his popular show A | :49:01. | :49:08.
String Of Pearls. This morning, aged 83, he bade farewell to his | :49:09. | :49:12.
listeners and announced his retirement. For 30 years he directed | :49:13. | :49:15.
every live rugby match from the National Stadium beginning with | :49:16. | :49:22.
Wales taking on England in 1963. He was adept in front and behind the | :49:23. | :49:26.
camera. But one of his fondest memories remains the Barbarians | :49:27. | :49:32.
taking on New Zealand in 1973. It was Cliff Morgan's breathless | :49:33. | :49:35.
commentary and his direction that help make that tries so memorable. | :49:36. | :49:44.
This is Gareth Edwards! Dramatic start! | :49:45. | :49:51. |
