Blues v Ospreys Scrum V

In a season filled with drama and tension, one date looms larger than

the rest. A date when the fiercest rivals collide in this rugby

Coliseum. Over the top, brilliantly worked! When contenders become

legends and legends become lions. When those who aim for the top take

one step further to wards glory. Today is Judgment Day. Gethin

Jenkins has led his country out here as well as his region. He will have

no fear of what lies ahead. Rey Lee-Lo had his first taste of it

last year but this is a whole new experience. No Dan Biggar so babies

will be steering the ship from Number Ten. -- Sam Davies. The crowd

are converging on the Principality Stadium from all corners of Wales.

About 60,000 are expected to file in over the next 15 minutes. First up,

the Blues against the Ospreys, a fixture the Ospreys haven't lost

since 2010, a run of 11 consecutive victories, three of them right here

on Judgment Day. The Ospreys have the most to play for, they are one

of five teams chasing a Pro12 play-off spot and it is becoming a

real dogfight at the top. The Blues have missed out on automatic

European qualification but have them out to get themselves into a

Champions Cup play-off. Today it is all about tribal bragging rights for

them. So much at stake today, welcome to Judgment Day five live

from the prince ability stadium. They are playing for that stadium

and we have two former Blues and a former Osprey. Sean, you and I have

been to all five of these since coming into existence, they have

grown and developed and it has become almost an international

flavour. You knew it would work back in the old Anglo Welsh semifinal. It

is a family game, the crowd and the atmosphere will be great, there is

nothing like a Welsh derby to enjoy. So much at stake in terms of the

league but also it is being billed as a final final lines audition.

Warren Gatland is only Quatre Taos -- four days out from naming their

squad. Maybe Gethin Jenkins, this could be a final opportunity to say

I am fit and available to selected for the Lions. Was the Lions on your

mind when you played here for the Quins. A lot of players use it as

motivation for the season. Come the 78th minute you are focusing on the

here and now and those players will be doing that today. Blues against

Ospreys, massive fixture, massive rivalry. The Ospreys defence is

statistically the best in the league, virtually impossible to

break down at times but last week we saw the Blues midfield cause. Kinds

of trouble. A couple of them were unplayable in many ways. This guy

has been a great signing for the Blues. Questions about the defence

but last week they made a very good Ulster team look very average in

defence. He has great pace and great off-loading skills. He won't get as

much space today, they will be in his face and they need to be. We

will hear a bit more about that from Sean in a few moments. Danny Wilson

would have been very pleased with the form of this two centres against

Ulster. -- his.

You have played some good stuff there to three games without the

reward of a win. More of the same today? Yes, definitely the intent to

play the way we have been playing. We attacked and there is risk

attached to that but the reward is great if it comes off. We need to

make sure our defensive game is up to standard. Is it a help or

hindrance that it is a big occasion? First of all it is about enjoying

it, the boys really look forward to it and enjoy it, it has a cup final

feel to it, but the important thing is to execute game plan and

technique under pressure and getting a decent performance against the

Osprey. And if he run against the Osprey so how important that you

play the match and not the occasion? -- a dodgy run against the Ospreys.

We have come here previously and done really well in these sorts of

games, it will be awesome for the boys and more motivating potentially

but we need to get back to winning ways. Sam Davies instead of Dan

Biggar, how does that change things? Slightly different players, Sam

stepped up and played really well against the Blues last time. Before

he went to the Six Nations, the games in between, I have a lot of

confidence in his performance today. A rare smile from Steve Tandy. The

main event nearly upon us. The battle for bragging rights has been

going on for some weeks. It is the Judgment Day ball in a bin

challenge, a test of mental aptitude and downright daftness. Blues

against Ospreys, where button against Dan Biggar, and already Dan

Biggar is giving it the big one. Now with the ball in the bin, taking out

the facilities. The bin camera has gone. There was ?20,000 worth of

equipment there. You could cut cheese with some of these passes

from Dan Biggar. He is up to 29, the gallery love it. 49, the crowd have

gone wild Dan Biggar. I was trying to get some height to it and give it

a chance to bounce in. How will Warburton respond? Good start with

eight on the skittles. And to the passing. There is a builders

estimates so far on the pass and he is stuck on eight. His head has

gone, he is breaking the rules, he is not allowed to kick it. Warburton

has lost it here big-time. It is more difficult than it looks. There

was not really a tackle plan so when I walked in I knew I would be

struggling. Very gracious from Warburton, who before that will be

Dan Biggar's only contribution, he is not playing today. Tipuric was a

name you mentioned. He is a sensational player, nothing he can't

do. He gets overlooked, the dirty work he does, because he doesn't do

the flamboyant stuff. He could probably comfortably played 12 or

13, he is that good. He has a fascinating matchup against Jenkins,

a lot of talk last week about him. Under the radar Jenkins is superb,

gets under the ball really well. A lot of matchup two in these games

and that is a particular want to look forward to. The Ospreys

defence, 94% tackle completion rate. Under Brad Davies they have

perfected the art of the double tackle. Can the Blues penetrate it

this afternoon. Sean Holley about an hour or so ago helped some of the

Academy boys at the Cardiff Blues who tried to answer that question.

Today is all about the two V1, the Ospreys will look to get two

defenders against one ball carrier but the Blues will try to do the

opposite. They try to contain in defence. Any single ball-carrier

ends up in a two V1 situation. Tipuric here is inside of Dan Biggar

and that allows them to make good defensive decisions. They are still

adept at holding up single ball-carriers and slowing down play.

It is a two against one defensive situation. The Blues will try to get

ten against ten and two against one in attack, picking the right option.

The Blues are looking to get one against one in attack or even two

against one. The Ospreys have more wit in their defence, easy it to but

if they lose it it is ten against ten. That is what the Blues won.

Take a look at the decision one defender has to make. Lee-Lo coming

short, Alex Cuthbert up the back. If I stop as an isolated offender I

have a decision to make. This is two against one. If I decide to jump up

against Cuthbert, I am asking him to send it short to Lee-Lo. If I go

towards Lee-Lo, Cuthbert has a one against one and we know the danger

he can pose to defences. Let's look at the next generation, Cardiff

Blues under 16 Academy. Ten against ten situation. He goes out the back,

short to Lee-Lo. It is the same kind of play, different option, this time

to Cuthbert on the one against one. Look out for the Blues trying to get

a ten against ten against the Ospreys today.

As we mention, 60,000 fans expected here this afternoon. They are

flocking in, arriving in their droves. Warburton will be a

spectator today, he would love to be taking part but he is not.

He is proudly wearing his Cardiff Blues blazer today. What is so

special about this occasion? I have lost my voice. I think it is the

size of the crowd, they are not used to this at regional level. We

haven't beaten the Ospreys in a long time so it adds some spice. How do

you manage the three elements, the bragging rights, the fact it is a

full house and the fact that you have two win for parades that --

full pints? -- points. I am sure that the boys will be told, we have

to do the job and not get carried away with the occasion. You will be

supporting by sign language by the sound of it today. I have done three

Q sessions before this. -- question-and-answer sessions. Best

Vader on Scrum V Live. The teams are about to leave the dressing rooms

and make their way onto the pitch. It is quite a poor record for the

Blues, in 11 games since they last beat the Ospreys. What are they

going to do today differently as they are going to put an end to that

barren run? I watched the Blues play last week and I thought they were

fantastic. I don't think they will get as much space this week, the

Ospreys will try to cut down the threat. I would say the Blues if

they can replicate the performance against Ulster last week here today

they have a great chance of winning. The Ospreys will be hurting from the

last few weeks. Before we had -- hand to the commentators, they are

missing Dan Biggar and Jones, will that make a difference? Dan Biggar

is a huge loss but I would say that Jones is the biggest loss. Warburton

left a short while ago to go to the commentary box.

COMMENTATOR: It is Judgment Day V. Such a lot to be judged when it

comes to top four positions in particular at the end of the season

and the Ospreys are the ones battling. Blues, injuries in all

fast last week, Warburton is out, Macauley Cook is back and Kristian

Dacey has... Bradley Davies makes a first league start since injuring

his knee in October. James King takes over from Cracknell. Dan

Biggar recovering from last week's knocked on the head so Sam Davies

goes to ten and Dan Evans is at full-back. Schindler is the leading

points scorer. -- Steven Shingler. Andrew brace from Ireland is the man

in charge. The roof is shut and the atmosphere is building. Not often

you see the Ospreys on the back of a couple of defeats. That is where

they are now, hanging onto the shirt tails of Leinster and Munster.

Ospreys and Scarlets hoping the semi final fixtures come the season. Two

more to go and this one is such a big impact on the whole season.

Lions places and Welsh team laces up the grabs, points up the grabs for

the teams in the Pro12. -- Welsh team places. Dafydd Howells gathers

safely. Rhys Webb directing traffic around him. Baker is one of the

forgotten men as far as Wales is concerned. Sam Davies long

downfield, picked up by Matthew Morgan. Weighing up the options,

running is what he wants to do. He runs into the Ospreys defence. Lloyd

Williams, Kristian Dacey. We have two teams who want to play rugby, as

we saw from the Blues in the Kingspan in Ravenhill last week.

Rhun Williams started at full-back last week but it didn't last very

long. Lee-Lo, the danger man from Belfast.

Trying to build again through Nick Williams. Morgan looking for that

step, almost nipped through. Into the 22. Keeps it in field. He made

sure he wasn't dying over the touchline. Very enterprising start

from the Blues. Between the two black crow -- the

two back row players. That was a great start from the Blues, you

looked at the Ospreys, I have never seen them so out of form at the

start, and the Blues off the back of their best performance this season.

It should be a fantastic, fascinating game. If you carry on

like that you will end up sounding like Sam Warburton!

Cuthbert stepped over the touchline and in fact had done it before

taking the ball. Which means the ball was out. I'm not sure he

realised what was going on there but it has worked out well for the

Blues. Not a characteristic mistake from Rhys Webb.

Ellis Jenkins eventually. Nick Williams in midfield, straight at

Baker. James King with the assist the tackle. The Blues back where

they started. Looking to build inside the Ospreys 22.

Inside run from Lee-Lo. Again it is James King doing a lot of the

defending work. Struggling to get any pressure on the ball, Ospreys.

So clean from Lloyd Williams at the moment. Tipuric trying to keep

Halaholo on his feet. Ripped by Rhys Webb. Line-out. I quite like the way

the Ospreys are defending at the moment, the centres are waiting for

them to step, being patient. You know that Lee-Lo and Halaholo are

going to try to be on your inside shoulder. The Ospreys are being very

patient and defending well at the moment.

Not contesting the line-out. Looking just to drive them back, but

Kristian Dacey is in a good position. Very well played, and as

they were expecting a second drive the hooker has snuck over in the

corner. The Blues have totally dominated the first five minutes. A

good strip by Rhys Webb which led to the Blues line-out. I am not sure

what happened to the Ospreys defence but they split of Jenkins in front

of Rhys Webb. He School so many tries for the Blues, just peels off.

-- he's School Of Roars. -- he scores. That is a great finish,

great start from the Blues. It is five minutes they have dominated in

five point come away with. Kristian Dacey back after injury. Marking it

with his fifth league try of the season. The Ospreys haven't touched

the ball yet apart? -- kick from Rhys Webb. Great control from the

Blues pack. Gareth Anscombe taking over kicking

duties with Steven Shingler on the bench. Yes, he has got there with

the help of the post. Not quite sure which side of the crossbar it is

going to drop. Five becomes seven. A great kick from Anscombe.

The perfect start for the Blues. No nonsense from Matthew Morgan, safely

off the park and they realign on halfway.

Just fading at the last but inside that post. That was interesting. Did

that kick actually go over? I suppose the judges are closer than

us. They are perfectly placed. Round the back -- round the back comes

Dafydd Howells. Good hit by Filise. He is not the

guy you want to try and run into. You have to try and use that work

somebody like him. Good fit work by Keelan Giles. Good on the hoof by

Scott Baldwin. -- good footwork by a Keelan Giles.

Lovely hands by Tipuric. They are both looking to play, do off-loads.

Great initial play from Keelan G Isles -- Keelan Giles to put Rhys

Webb ahead. Tried a miracle ball. It glanced off Cuthbert's hip and went

forward, if you look closely. You can see what Matavesi was trying to

do, great pick-up from Tipuric. I enjoyed that from Giles, he had the

advantage. Let's look at that again. Did that go over? No, it didn't. How

have they given that? That is an interesting one. It is gone, he has

given it. If the Blues win by two point they will be... He should have

gone to Spec Savers. This is Kristian Dacey's try. The Ospreys

thought they had done well because they splintered the pack but it was

a great finish. They have goal-line technology in

football these days. That is a shocker.

Mark Williams turns ready to feed Anscombe. The Ospreys' back three in

position. Giles, against rape to the traffic.

-- again straight into the traffic. Nick Williams looking to get over

the ball and he has done. Superb work by the number eight. It is

Tipuric after it, Morgan is the quickest of the three and just about

getting a hand to it. Poor decision from Jenkins, he has gone for

kicking it downfield, you can see what he was trying to do. Tipuric is

never far from the ball, great cover by Morgan. Great steal from Nick

Williams, he is so good at this. So difficult to move at this stage, you

just have to keep it in hand. He is on the wrong foot as well. Did

Tipuric have the legs of Anscombe? It was close but Morgan got back. It

was close. Here is Filise. The referee thinking about giving

the decision against the Blues ball rolling away. Sam Davies trying to

weave his way through. Great feet by Ashley Beck. Cuthbert stuck to his

task well and the ball turned over to Navidi. Morgan out wide to

Halaholo. Back inside to Morgan, Williams free on the outside but

couldn't get to him. Certainly a chance for the Blues. Anscombe,

Lee-Lo, Macauley Cook, again Rhun Williams. The ball not finding him.

Nick Williams with the carry. Good pressure from the Blues, can

they finish it? It is an interception, he has Keelan Giles

outside him. He hasn't seen him! Oh, dear me, it was all over the place

from Matavesi, knew he didn't have the legs, didn't spot him alongside

him. Matavesi made that deception there, I wasn't giving him good odds

to go all the way but Giles was on his outside, whether he was calling

for it I am not sure. The Blues reacted really well and got back,

good cover. It is an oil and nothing read. Try time if he doesn't make

it. Giles is screaming, doesn't seem to be going full pace. Like Jamie

says, if he doesn't take it it is probably a try for the Blues. It is

a long run. I am sure you would have managed it!

Why to make a good take by Giles. Really interesting, the first 30

minutes, the amount of pressure the Blues are getting. When the Blues

have the ball, they are in control of that tackle area. Williams just

penalised Ellis Jenkins but that is just the pressure. A great kick.

Here we go, Ellis Jenkins and Lee-Lo is in there trying to spoil it.

Jenkins needs to come from behind, he is just at the side of the ruck.

This is as close as the Ospreys have been in the opening quarter of an

hour. Bradley Davies, against his former team. Webb sees front row

boys ready and waiting. Sam Davies... Ellis Jenkins is there,

quicker than anybody again. Here is a chance to go again. Halaholo, but

the presence of Keelan Giles just enough. I think Sam Davies got a

stud stuck in the ground and tripped over. Quick reactions from Ellis

Jenkins. Before the game, he had a good game in Belfast last week. A

fascinating match. And this is just a really good read from Keelan

Giles. Matavesi, Sam Davies, Macauley

Cook... Some of the Blues are going to have

to be careful. Macauley Cook made the tackle and they could not get

out. They need points on the board, the Ospreys, and they need to get

into the game. You mention Ellis Jenkins, you have players who have

been pretty much everywhere. I think Josh gets over the ball so well. The

Blues have been very mobile. They need to play an open and expansive

game. The Ospreys too, that's what they want. They have been struggling

a bit this season. Just watch the Ospreys last few weeks if you want

to see how influential Alun Wyn Jones is. Safely negotiated by Sam

Davies, no doubt about that one! The Ospreys are on the board, 7-3, they

trail. You mentioned the pack, Charlie. Traditionally, it has

always been the Ospreys attack that has bullied. So far, so good for the

Blues. Great by Lloyd Williams, just a

couple of major shirt, a good pass to an scum. Nick Williams, Gareth

Anscombe and the defence is a bit narrow. Big Cass doesn't find

anybody. Matthew Morgan. Lloyd Williams just keeps it in there.

They have to start all over again. There are half chances all over the

place. Navidi, as they call for more defenders and that direction and the

Ospreys are outnumbered. Cuthbert, with two men outside him, the chance

was there, driven back in the tackle, great defending. Lloyd

Williams, that's a superb take by Lloyd Williams, not the way they

planned but a great finish from the scrum-half. Good patients from the

Blues. Kept hold of the ball, and as Jamie mentioned earlier, the Ospreys

just can't get anywhere near the Blues' ball.

He's going to do and just clearing, the speed of that ball, it's hard to

defend. Great finish from Lloyd Williams. I think it was hit by

Gethin Jenkins. Very clinical from the Blues. I'm sure the Blues fans

watching last week in Belfast, Commander wondering where this has

been all season because performances over the last couple of games, they

should easily be in the top six when you look at the calibre of the

players. Really get this one? Here we go. No doubt about that one.

Straight down the middle from Gareth Anscombe. What is that it has been

for the Blues. Two tries in the opening quarter. Dan Baker will be

disappointed. The great outside break for Lloyd Williams but they do

well, they don't panic, the Blues. At the moment, you have to say they

are in control of the game. Then maybe half chances out wide but they

are finishing in different ways. Baldwin, has the Ospreys are rocking

and reeling. REFEREE: I have just spoken to him.

COMMENTATOR: He is not happy. This is the difference in the game,

that contact area. Macauley Cook, sometimes underrated, one of those

club players who is there all season. He was in the academy when I

was at the Blues. He's the kind of player you want in your squad, you'd

give everything every day of the week, every man she plays in, but is

he caught between positions? A A5? But a valuable player. I thought

this would be on the edge of Gareth Anscombe's limit and indeed...

That's what happens when you try to put too much into it. You pull it a

little bit. Just out of this distance. But worth a shot, the

right decision to go. We don't mention kicks. Jamie just

nudged me there and said that was your end as well! Spoke my mind,

Gareth. On the outside... They're certainly trying things, the Blues.

Danny Wilson, true to his word, so confident.

REFEREE: Hold on, hold on. Just checking with Gwyn Morris what the

fence was. That is what Morgan was looking for.

One of those but Bradley Davies knows he has the pace to stay with

him. From a similar line-ups that Kristian Dacey in the opening score.

Scott Baldwin, very aware of the threat. Halaholo. Gethin Jenkins.

Have a dozen metres out. Kristian Dacey. Ospreys not committing,

fanning out in defence as Navidi gets closer. Filise, not close

enough, Gareth Anscombe steps and goes and reaches it? No. The Ospreys

can't afford this. The speed of the ball the Blues are getting. It's

just all so easy for the Blues. The carriers are winning the extra yard,

there is no pressure on the ball from the Ospreys. It's so easy for

the Blues, for Lloyd Williams, held up by Rhys Webb. It's a bit of a

balance. We talk about players in defence, you can see this as a

tactic, they are trying to keep their numbers on feet. But then you

give the ball to the opposition. Yes. They have the players. They

really are going to have to sort out the Ospreys if they want to stay in

this game. More than 60% possession for the Blues but the territory has

been played in the Ospreys half and most of it in the 22.

Give him another three-year contract. Legend of a man. Legend of

a player. This is a critical point in the game now. A long way back for

the Ospreys if they concede any more.

It is try number three and even with less than 27 minutes gone, you're

asking yourself, is there any way back for the Ospreys? Total

domination from the Blues. No rocket science, when it came to that try,

Alex Cuthbert straight to Sam Davies, Nick Williams straight to

Justin Tipuric. From a solid scrum. And the Ospreys have serious

questions to answer. A great carry by Alex Cuthbert. A quick ball again

and you're not going to stop Nick Williams there, impossible job for

Tipuric. It's nothing fancy but it is very effective. They are playing

some fancy stuff, the Blues as well, but the scrums are going well, the

line-ups going well. 21-3 to the Blues and that's a

delighted Danny Wilson. He was punching the air at that last try

there. I think we have shown what we can do in attack. We have turned

them over a few times defensively as well. Do you change anything or keep

playing the same way? We will keep playing the same way. This is our

blueprint of identity that we want to play and it is important we get

the instruction right to match defence and attack. We had two

opportunities, we needed to finish. A yellow card?

Alex Cuthbert doesn't look too great there. He could have a yellow as

well. I think it is a yellow. That has to be yellow. I think he did not

expect Dan to jump last-minute and when a full-back jumps, you cannot

touch in the error. Yes, Dan Evans' eyes locked on the ball and all of a

sudden the worlds disappears. That has to be a yellow.

REFEREE: I think a penalty yellow card. The officials are agreeing

with our interpretation. It wasn't particularly dangerous but it was

clumsy. Showing no duty of care for the man in the air.

REFEREE: It is a yellow card, I have no other option. It's one of those

situations because he didn't actually launch into the year, Dan

Evans, but just that little hop by Dan Evans and it's a question of

being a yellow card. We have seen Alex Cuthbert returning to form in

the last few weeks. He has got his confidence back. Good to see. Those

of the men leading the various tours this summer. They will be looking at

who they will pick from the two games this afternoon. The Ospreys

haven't had an attacking platform so far.

Sam Davies, every route blocked. Very rarely have you seen the

Ospreys look this dishevelled and disorganised, losing control in

attack and defence. Dan Evans, now they get a bit of width. That's what

they should be doing. The breakdown is killing the Ospreys. Nick

Williams again. Just looked up at the crucial moment to secretly

defence was, what the possibilities are. He passed that before he caught

it. Another opportunity on the counterattack, the Blues are so

dangerous. Nick Williams against Dan Evans and only one winner. An

interesting period for the Ospreys, normally when they have a run, you

look at guys like Alun Wyn Jones, but they're not out there today, so

it is up to the likes of Sam Davies, Tipuric, up to those guys to really

step up and be the leaders. He looks as confused as anybody! Wondering

what on earth is going on. The Ospreys looked strong for five weeks

ago. This is better from the Ospreys, Giles is better. But they

can't complete it. It's a fine balance from holding onto the ball

and throwing the miracle pass, you just have to recycle the ball, go

through the phases. The two smallest men on the field there, Keelan Giles

and Matthew Morgan. Started the last six now for the

Ospreys after a bit of an injury, Keelan Giles. And that's a nasty cut

for Nicky Smith. He will be fine. He doesn't need to dwell on this yellow

card. Let it go. Get back in a positive frame of mind that you have

shown in the last few weeks. Absolutely. They're down to 14 men,

will this leave them in a good position for the Blues to go on and

win but then the Ospreys will want to score...

Mike Williams quite happy to put it into the stand. Under pressure from

young Tomos Williams. Fighting to get back into that Welsh shirt. He's

seen Gareth Davies takeover. Good strength. The Ospreys can score from

here and if they do they will feel they are back in the game.

Absolutely. Getting a man to ground early, going low, Nicky Smith is so

good at that, just a little sidestep to get on the front foot. Webb

around the fringes. Again, the Blues battling hard, slowing things down

for the Ospreys, getting more men in defensive positions and the ball has

been called. Excellent defensive work by the Blues. Another scrum.

Scott Baldwin was holding his hand out to Rhys Webb, he didn't want the

ball. His mate has come on to win a vital scrum for the Blues. Scott

Williams didn't really want this ball. Ellis Jenkins is in there.

Williams getting involved. Sums up the first 35 minutes, really, the

Blues with total control of the ball.

Some more running repairs. This time to the opposite prop. As an

experienced water carrier, he'd rather have his boots on and his

jersey on. Mind you, probably just as scary with a bit arm as he is

with a shirt. The scrum has been solid, giving

Nick Williams the platform. And Halaholo driving up towards the 22.

Invaluable. Chance again for the Ospreys to attack. Ellis Jenkins

goes flying. Matavesi to Beck. Trying to utilise the space vacated

by Alex Cuthbert. Tipuric. Webb has a snipe at Williams who is ready for

him. A penalty coming? Interesting whether they will go for

the call-out or the three. The Blues will be happy if they just concede

three points. Going for the corner, a big call from Webb. They could

still make it a three scoring game. Their adventures down to this

territory have been few and far between. That they need to score

from here now. Absolutely. He driving line-out halted at

source. It will be difficult because most of the forwards are all tied in

on the floor, from the Ospreys, but plenty there for the Blues. Scott

Baldwin lost it. The Ospreys cannot make any dent in

the Blues line. The Blues' defence exemplary. The Ospreys have no

answer at the moment. Shoulder on Scott Baldwin's head

there. I am not sure how much are was involved in the tackle. Matavesi

passes to Dan Baker, looking for support... A brave tackle on the

number eight. Guys on the outside, its office in a preplanned move,

they have to come up in support of him. Almost last chants saloon in

the first half for the Ospreys. Blues very confident in defence as

The Blues defence has been confident and well organised. The Blues pack

has outmuscled the Ospreys in this first half, great performance. Scott

Baldwin is used. The Ospreys are in danger of losing it and they have.

That about sums it up for the Ospreys, they have lost in the first

half, the Blues have looked totally in control confident and taking

their chances. Kristian Dacey and Lou Reed and Nick Williams have all

converted and the Ospreys have a long way back in this one if they

can at all. -- Lloyd Williams and Nick Williams. We know about the

attacking intent from the Blues but how important was it that you didn't

concede? It was huge. I went chasing a lost cause, grateful they got me

off the hook. Confident you can keep it going? We started the last two

games really well so we just need to keep it going in the second half.

Very well played by Kristian Dacey, the hooker has snuck over in the

corner. Safely negotiated by Sam Davies. A superb take by Lloyd

Williams, not the way they planned it but a great finish from the

scrum-half. With less than 27 minutes gone, you are asking

yourself if there is a way back for the Ospreys.

STUDIO: That is the half-time score, 21-3 to the Cardiff Blues. The

statistics are quite even. The critical one there, the Blues have

won six turnovers to the Ospreys' single one. The only statistic that

really matters, the Blues massively in front on the scoreboard. You are

grinning from it to it, a complete performance. -- ear to ear. The

Blues have played a fantastic game, I am not sure if the Ospreys are

trying to fan. For the Blues to be able to play out the back, get the

threat is low on the ball, in space. Once you have the momentum, the next

one is easier, like domino affect. They are on the front foot and the

creative play and the footwork these guys have, it is really difficult to

defend. The Blues are without doubt worthy leaders at the moment, they

are much more urgent and decisive. The Ospreys look really lacking in

confidence, body language is poor, the ability to score is not there.

Perhaps a reflection of the fact they have lost their last three,

their confidence is fragile and it took a knock in the first five

minutes because Dacey was over with that first try. Was it good

opportunity taken or sloppy defence? A bit of both. Look at Nick Williams

as apostle one, Dacey comes onto the ball. Nicky Smith and Scott Baldwin

are protecting the short side here. Because it's Blitz and is reasonably

well defended, he wonders them and loses concentration. Dacey

anticipates well. You look at Nicky Smith coming in. Baldwin gets sucked

in and it is really well timed from Dacey, good anticipation and feel.

It shows almost the shape of things to come, the confidence seems to

permeate through the team. They are running with purpose and intent. You

can see the endeavour to play. When you are playing on the front foot,

Ospreys can't get off the line of defence. You talked about the

fragility of the Ospreys defence, they are playing like a team with

the weight of the world on their shoulders, sloppy at times, and with

the Matavesi interception and not finishing off a great opportunity.

Matavesi lacks the pace, but poor communication, you are not used to

seeing this from the Ospreys. You just need to consolidate here, Baker

loses it. This ultimately results in a series of phases for the Blues,

typifying where the Ospreys are at. Look at Nicky Smith and Dan Baker

coming in, they start talking on this phase, you are on your our own

that line, get urgent. That is too easy. Cuthbert carries hard, trying

to isolate Sam Davies. They are having a crack at the line, but the

slowness costs you at this level. It is the speed of the ball as well,

there are hardly any white jerseys competing on the ball. Forget about

them spreading out wide, they should say, let's deal with this. There is

an absence of leaders making that big call. You saw the real

rollicking in the dressing room. It is about having a plus one over the

ball, they do seem to be more containing at the top of the show,

but they are missing as a leader. -- Alun Wyn Jones as a leader. The

midfield are controlling things and the opportunities are there for the

Blues all afternoon. When you are on the front third, when you have guys

like Berghan and Halaholo, Lee-Lo, holding which, when you are on the

front that you can play to those guys, when you aren't you can't.

Look at this footwork, Sam Davies. The front foot, you can play at the

back, get guys like Morgan, footwork against low numbers. They are very

dangerous. Rhun Williams has impressed me, he runs hard, his

support lines are fantastic and he is working hard off the ball. The

Ospreys defence, it is this organising them. Brad Davis pulling

back Halaholo because they know they are threat off the ball. It is a

long uphill struggle for the Ospreys if they are to get themselves back

in this. The second half is coming soon but this is just act one of

news in the week when it was confirmed that David Parry Jones,

the voice of Welsh rugby, had died at the age of 83. This is a tribute.

Good afternoon to you from Cardiff. For anybody following rugby in the

1980s, David Parry Jones was the face and a voice-over be. He

introduced -- the face and the voice of rugby. It was a golden age.

History has been made, a magnificent and thoroughly deserved Vic tree.

Years of experience writing for newspapers and working on TV and

radio made him equally at home presenting and interviewing and he

won the respect and trust of the players and officials he worked

with. He was honoured by the Welsh rugby writers Association for his

services and like some of the stars who featured in his commentaries he

will be remembered simply by his initials.

David Parry Jones, our condolences to his family and all those who knew

and loved him. Back pitch side, Phil Steele is with Gareth Davies.

I don't want you to put your chairman's hat on but with your

rugby man's hat on, you won your first cap in 1978. Who have you had

a look at today who could make the tour? A lot of lads have put their

hands up, Keeling Giles looks good defensively. He hasn't had too much

possession as the Blues dominated that half. Lloyd Williams, Gareth

Anscombe, Alex Cuthbert, they have made a point today and over the last

couple of weeks, so it will be very interesting through the Welsh

selectors take with them on the summer tour. It is an opportunity

now, two years and a bit ahead of the World Cup, this of these younger

people coming through, some of the less established players to put

their stamp on things. What did you make of the first part as a neutral?

The Blues have been on a good run, the last three games, they didn't

win those games. The Ospreys have been on a bit of a slump. It looks

to the Blues but I wouldn't totally underestimate the Ospreys in the

second half. Jamie, how frustrating is this the

Blues fans? You mentioned it in commentary, where has this been all

season? Is that fair or is this an upward trajectory and this is a

turning point? It is great to seeing them playing with this endeavour. It

is that balance. When they made signings like Nick Williams,

Halaholo, guys with bags of talent in the you have to give them space

and get them doing what they do best. That will take time to

develop, it can't happen overnight. Danny works very hard at trying to

bring the best out of everybody. They have a lot of quality, you saw

a scuffle there with Alun Wyn Jones, getting quite passionate, but it is

about the Blues boys trying to get the best out of each individual.

Towards the tail end of the season it looks like they have been doing

that. Nick Williams against Alun Wyn Jones, who is running that Clash of

the Titus? Nick Williams! They are missing Alun Wyn Jones. It shows the

mindset of this Blues team, they have a point to prove, they have had

a poor season as far as the table goes. This same game last year, the

Blues did go ahead before the Ospreys came back and won. Gareth

Davies said under restoration them at your peril. They are in a

different place to how they were then. I don't see enough in their

body language to see them coming back from that. I think this second

half depends on running hard, playing on the front foot. Second

half about to get under well. COMMENTATOR: All to do for the

Ospreys in the second half. What impact could this have on their

whole season? They were looking at home semifinal at one stage, they

could be looking slipping out of the top four, which would be disastrous

from the position they have been in. A fair contest, great take from Rhun

Williams. Nice to see a bit of fire between Williams and Alun Wyn Jones.

The Ospreys have bullied the Blues and the Blues are not taking step

backwards tonight. Nick Williams is over the ball again. He has been

superb in the first half. He may have done his talking to Alun Wyn

Jones after the first half but he has done his talking in the tackling

area this afternoon. It is the timing as well, he comes from the

outside, great tackle from Jenkins, brings the man down early and it

allows Nick Williams to get the third one. I said at the beginning,

no Sam Warburton, and Nick Williams is a very different layer. He is up

for this today. On a big occasion you need your big players. They are

winning all of the 50-50s. Great take. The two 11s showing aerial

skills. Cook two Dacey, Williams at the heart of that Ospreys defence.

Brilliantly done. One pass would have released Rhun Williams again.

Dacey with a pick and go. Just short of the line. He is over. The ball

hasn't been put down. Great work from Tipuric in the end but no fancy

plays from the Blues, this is our man Nick Williams, his physicality

and Cuthbert's, straight down the middle and the cat sprays can't

handle it. Good line-out ball, they really hit that defends hard. Here

we go, Nick Williams. Great line from Cuthberts, straight of two

Lloyd Williams. Lloyd Williams to Filise. Tipuric just manages to get

his arms over and steal the ball. The Blues started the second half

like they played the first. Lloyd Williams cleans up but it

slowed things down, whatever move they had planned they have had to

abandon. Set up from Lee-Lo, here come the forwards again. Lloyd

Williams orchestrating players around him, Nick Williams with

another big carry. Cuthbert again round the back. So, so close.

Filise. He has got there. It is Filise with the bonus point for the

Blues. That is as popular a try as you could have for the Blues.

Brilliant from Filise, is he for the next week? The power, the ball

carrying from the Blues, the Ospreys can't handle it. Patience as well.

He did it in the first half when Lloyd Williams went over. This time,

nice skills from Lloyd Williams. Filise two meters out against

Bradley Davies and Sam Davies. Outstanding first 45 minutes from

the Blues. That is showboating domino need to do it but it comes

off! The sort of thing you would do. Lloyd Williams has had an armchair

ride. The Blues are totally dominating with their pack.

This is really a test of character now for the Ospreys. If the Ospreys

are not going to contest for the ball they need to win the

collisions. At the moment they are losing the collisions, they are not

slowing down any ball. Great work from Filise. He is one of the most

popular players in the squad. Desperate times now for the Ospreys.

Look price has replaced Josh Matavesi, licking the something

different. -- look price. -- Luke Price. Sam Davies looking

for the flat ball of Baker, hasn't worked. Great pick-up. And scum on

the chase and he wins it as well. It is all going be Blues' way. And that

must be it, the fifth try for the Blues and the celebrations are

starting early. Nobody saw this coming. It all came in midfield

between Sam Davies and I think it was Baker, not sure who was carrying

and who was supposed to get the ball. Great pick-up and spin from

Dacey. Watch this from Dacey, great spills. Gives it to Halaholo. We say

you shouldn't kick but it was a great kick this time, and scum has

the pace and Sam Davies and bounces up cruelly. What a start from the

Blues in the first seven minutes of this second half. The Ospreys are

all at sea. It is all going swimmingly for the

Blues and horribly, horribly wrong for the Ospreys.

And scum converts his own try, they can't put a foot wrong at the

moment. -- Gareth Anscombe. Gareth Anscombe on hand quite

literally to grab the fit. Losing confidence. -- oozing confidence.

Fantastic take from the kick-off. It will be a long 30 minutes for the

Ospreys. Cuthbert bided his time on that occasion.

Through goes Rhys Webb! They need something, and quick.

Jenkins' eyes lit up when he saw Bradley Davies on the short ball.

What has been really impressive from the Blues is they have reorganised

really well and got themselves back into defensive shape and one

collisions like that again. That flat ball isn't working for the

Ospreys. That time Bradley Davies managed to hang onto it.

Filise took a bit of a knot as he threw his body on the line. --

knock. While he and Christian Davies are having treatment, what do the

Ospreys make of it? Difficult times view, Griff Rhys.

What can you salvage now? It is the balance between playing catch up

rugby and being in control of what you are doing and we haven't been in

control from minute one. What has been most disappointing from your

perspective? We haven't kept shape and we haven't been able to

penetrate. Thanks for your time. Just step of me please. The Blues

Blues managed to get defenders back, even when they were looking to

attack. As you mention, look at the speed

with which the Blues get back into defensive shape. The Ospreys are

there when he saw... Ellis Jenkins, as he has done all afternoon, snap.

Anything loose. Dacey has had a huge game. As well as getting the opening

try. Halaholo, the Blues look a bit tired. They have gone at this at a

rare old pace. The mistake from back comes from the organisational of the

Blues. Complete emanation in defence from the Blues. -- domination. Tay

Chris Crilly will take over from Filise. -- Peikrishvili. Ball

square, Munster, Ulster, his fourth start this afternoon. -- all square.

A wonderful shift from Filise, to see a guy of that age, it takes

three people to stop him. He has been a huge part of most of the

tries the Blues have scored today. They just haven't been able to cope

with him, Nick Williams, the physicality of those two. Scott

Otten they replacement Ospreys hooker. Good delivery from Tipuric

but asking too much of Sam Davies. When somebody as good as Rhys Webb

is making passes like that you know it is not your day. Really poor. Sam

Davies, no chance. It is a situation that the Ospreys

won't be used to, playing for time, no chance really of winning this.

Somehow they just have to find some confidence out of the last 25

minutes to take into the last two games of the season. Gethin Jenkins

going up. The presence of Jenkins has been massive for the Blues over

the last few years, the absence of Alun Wyn Jones equally so that the

Ospreys. His influence in the dressing room, Jenkins, it lifts

everybody else by 10%, 15%. It is no coincidence that in recent weeks he

has been fit and there has been a marked improvement, incredible

leader and player. Dan Evans, Matthew Morgan, back-up

for a second bite. Bradley Davies. The Ospreys are

trying to build... He passed the ball straight into the Blues' play.

Incredible, the Ospreys have won the last 11 against the Blues, the last

28 of the last 30. The coinciding game at the Liberty, the Ospreys

totally believed the Blues. They dominated the game and it has been a

complete reversal in this fixture. The Blues pack has been outstanding.

Kristian Dacey, but the general physicality of the Blues pack has

totally dominated the Ospreys. The Ospreys have had a few set pieces in

the Blues' 22 but have come away with absolutely nothing. It would be

nice to see them fire a shot. Even the attacking line does not go right

for them. If you are not going to get that right, you will not get

back in the game. A great kick from Lloyd Williams. He's had a good game

too. I was going to say. Very much a confidence player, when he's

confident, he's a player. He shows how he can be.

It's great to see the Blues still hungry. Williams early, well played

Rhun Williams to Lloyd Williams. It is the organisation in defence.

Great play by Rhun Williams. Timed his pass to perfection. Alex

Cuthbert on the inside as well. You can see the Blues are working

hard, you just want to keep playing, the Ospreys, the other hand, they

will be desperate for the final whistle. The Blues, eighth, and

looking at a play-off game for the Champions Cup next year either

against the seventh placed English or French team. At the moment,

Northampton seventh. That will be good fun. Do you fancy the Blues for

a place in Europe next year? We're playing for top six in the Aviva but

it could end up being that way. Lots of teams in the mix, it's going to

be tough whichever team we play. This isn't the performance of an

eighth placed team in the Pro12. It's really frustrating. If you are

Blues supporter, then... On, dear! That's a nasty one. I think Kristian

Dacey has proved significantly as a player, really come to the form. He

is great at defence. A busy day tomorrow, finals day as fun as the

Welsh cups go. Someone who will be particularly busy tomorrow... Yes,

this man is hooker for Caerphilly and a groundsman here. I'm looking

forward to? Yes, it is a big occasion for the club after many

years and I think we will do well tomorrow. If Shane Williams goes for

they run, you can tell him to get off the pitch. I am sure the boys

will cope well. Chance of a lifetime, have a good one! Thanks.

The latest two replacements for the Ospreys have come on. But the Blues

have not slowed down and their effort has not diminished. You can

see Halaholo blocking off options. Great effort. Space

being cut down wherever the Ospreys try to find it.

Keelan Giles has not had too much of the ball this afternoon, has he?

Paul James has earned quite a few carries in a few seconds he has been

on. This is better from the Ospreys. Rhodri Jones, Tyler Ardron

potted-mac support comes from James King. And again, Tipuric feeding in

and Tom Habberfield and Sam Davies and there is a penalty coming but

the Ospreys are desperate to cross about try line. Dan Evans! He slips

through and at last, the Ospreys have got a try. The best passage of

the whole game for them. I think there might be a yellow card here.

It has taken them until the 60th minutes to run with a bit of

practice. And you see what happens off the back of that. I'm not sure

if he had said something or... There was a warning given. Continued

infringement. Offside. Gareth Anscombe is a bit baffled. He has

got his hand out for persistent infringement.

REFEREE: OK, got it. Happy to play on? The referee is just waiting... A

quick drop goal conversion for some Davies, time pressures for the

Ospreys and here is Ellis Jenkins, still getting treatment but he is

OK. Sion Bennet has just come on. Nick

Williams trundles off. Who much life will it inject into

the Ospreys for the final 15? There goes your answer. Lloyd Williams

This Halaholo had held onto that one, it could well have been in for

a six. As it is, the Ospreys have to try to build deep inside their 22.

both teams. The game has been played at a fair old pace, Stephen Shingler

coming on for Matthew Morgan. Gareth Anscombe has been yellow

carded. The Ospreys might have been hoping

for a ball that size, I think. A Judgment Day of fun and

entertainment here for the principality crowd.

Interesting defensively for the Blues, they have ten, 12, 13... They

have got to go wide. They have brought Keelan Giles I'm already. I

think it is safe to say there is a bit of space out there. Plenty of

room for the Ospreys. I looked back to Dan Baker's line break in the

first half. And he has just worked really well, him and Alex Cuthbert,

they have covered a lot of metres, that's for sure. They've worked very

hard. The Ospreys didn't get a chance to use whatever move they had

up their sleeves. They do have the ball. Lee-Lo fighting hard for it.

It inside is Dan Evans and Sam Davies,

there is Keelan Giles, a good tackle by Sion Bennet, this is a lovely run

by Keelan Giles. Dafydd Howells, Fonotia... Fonotia has looked

dangerous since he came on. Bradley Davies.

Blues looking to fan out right. The Ospreys going through the forwards

initially, a little pop for Paul James. They need to keep the width

in the fifteens. Eight quick tapped by Justin Tipuric. The referee

allows it... If they can shift the ball, they are in. It's in any way.

Paul James! Faint hope for the Ospreys as another quick conversion

narrows that gap. Let's time this walk, no need to rush, stroll back.

They have put a little bit of power into the ball carrying. The Ospreys

had no front football to work with the first at all. Like Jamie said,

it could have gone wide but Paul James, doesn't get many tries, and

just reaches over. Good control by the forearm. There would've been a

St Germain in a few weeks back, it's going to be difficult with a man

down still in the bin for the Ospreys. Unfortunately, they haven't

got messy, Suarez, out there! The Blues are back up to 15. Coming

on at the same time as Gareth Anscombe, James Down, replacing

Shingler with a dummy insight. Again, perfectly laid-back for Lloyd

Williams. The Ospreys are standing still and defence. The line speed is

not there. It is allowing the Blues to pack that gain line every time

they have the ball in their hands. And they're taking full advantage of

it, working their way towards that try line again, Shingler, Halaholo

potted-mac to come back to Martin's point earlier in the half, if you're

not going to compete, you have to come off the line. It wouldn't

surprise me if the Blues... Now within striking distance. Lloyd

Williams picks out Josh Navidi. Matthew Rees and Rhys Gill together,

better defence from the Ospreys and they have won it. Can they transfer

quickly enough? Jenkins guarding the wing, Ashley Beck, Dan Evans, Luke

Williams leaves the pitch, but another encouraging performance from

him. He was unlucky last week. He had to go back on the wing.

The presence of Cuthbert is always a threat. Even if he doesn't receive

the ball. Good to see him come off his wing today, get his hands on the

ball. Tipuric tries to bring in Keelan Giles but who is there? Ellis

Jenkins. Rhys Gill... Lloyd Williams looked up to see where the defenders

wear and he is quite happy justifying the touchline. Man of the

match? So many to choose from with the Blues, I mentioned Cuthbert,

outstanding today. But Nick Williams has been outstanding. Ellis Jenkins

has won 23 tackles. A complete performance from Ellis Jenkins.

Fighting for that place on tour. So many are fighting for that spot. It

some space for Sam Davies at last but the pass was not well delivered.

The Ospreys are in search of a third try. Ardron has made a difference.

Habberfield passes to Otten. They just haven't been able to get over

that line. Kieron Fonotia has looked impressive

as well. The steel is there again. A turnover

ball and Lloyd Williams with the kick. And Luke Price is back

defending. Look at the energy from the Blues. It is heartbreaking for

the Ospreys to have to trudge all the way back when they were looking

for a score. And then they give the ball away too easily. A kick from

Stephen Shingler, the race is on... Fonotia quite happy to see that go

over the touchline. With Alex Cuthbert breathing down his neck.

Great turnover from Lee-Lo. Great kick from Lloyd Williams. But it is

just the energy of the Blues. Ellis Jenkins, he has done a bit of

everything today. The Blues have just been at it more today than the

Ospreys. Sam Davies, Halaholo, in midfield,

though, can't get anything past them. Keelan Giles is driven back

but bounces back up. Ashley Beck is chopped down by Navidi. And there he

goes. Dan Evans giving chase, Cuthbert and Gareth Anscombe back

there for the Blues. That was all he needed to do. The chase shows what

the Blues have been about this afternoon.

Fonotia really has made a difference. Great turn of pace

again. The clock as Conrad, the Ospreys have to keep on fighting. --

the clock has gone red. They have improved but that may be that the

Blues were confident the wind was theirs. The opening our belonging

almost exclusively to the Cardiff Blues. It has been an outstanding

performance by the Blues. It won't have any major influence on their

season in the league, but it makes it a very, very uncomfortable last

couple of weeks for the Ospreys. One time may be destined for a home

semifinal, now fighting to keep their place in the top four, because

they were outplayed by the Blues, who have hit form at the wrong part

of the season. Totally dominant display from the Blues, complete

performance, both forwards and backs, with and without the ball,

totally deserved. The victory and margin of victory doesn't flatter

them either. It's been an unbelievable collapse from the

Ospreys over the last four weeks and they have an interesting two games

to go but hugely positive steps for the Blues again. Backing up a great

performance at Ulster, totally dominant performance today. The

Ospreys may have had the last two tries of the game through Dan Evans

and Paul James, but by then, the Blues already had five on the board

and the bonus point save. The bonus point for the Blues, the first win

against the Ospreys in seven years and the Ospreys on the slide and

worried. It has finished Blues 35, Ospreys 17.

Gethin Jenkins, we spoke in Ulster last week, you had the performance

but not quite the result. This week, the full Monty, how pleasing is

that? It is nice to get a win, it has been awhile we beat the Ospreys.

Came out first complacent with a good stop but they came back strong

because they are a quality team. If you can put your finger on what was

different between last weekend this week, the draw and a good win, what

would it be? It is hard, last week we played some good stuff in this

week we carried on, came out of the blocks quite quickly. Swansea

couldn't live with us in the first half -- Ospreys can deliver this in

the first half. Well, they were 21-3 up at

half-time, the Blues and you sense that they scored first in the

second, it was game over and that is exactly what they did, 44 minutes on

the clock. And a bit of fortune for this one, but great skills, Gareth

Anscombe holding onto the ball in full flight and a second Blues try

in the space of five minutes. The Ospreys didn't give up, they bagged

a couple of their own, had the last word, Dan Evans went over for their

first try in that second half and then Paul James coming onto the

pitch to add a bit of experience, but it wasn't enough, they got

nothing from this game, not even a losing bonus point. They are

currently down to fourth. There is another game going on at the moment

between two of the sides in the top four, Munster against Ulster. Up

until two minutes ago, Munster were 15-13 ahead but also have just

scored and they go into third. Scarlet is drop-out of the top or

temporarily and the Ospreys are clinging on in fourth. We can go

down to fill with the man of the match, Ellis Jenkins. We will get

the sponsors to first give Ellis his Pro12 man of the match. Well done,

Ellis. At half-time, you said about the defence, what about the second

half performance? How did it compare with the first? It was decent. It is

hard to keep that momentum going for the ball game, we have done that in

the last couple of games, come on strong in 5060 minutes and then

fallen off and the Ospreys are such a good team, we needed to keep that

going that in 50 or 60 minutes. They looked dangerous in patches and we

did well to hold on. The boys and commentary kept on saying, look at

the energy of the Blues. How enjoyable was it? Really enjoyable,

a stadium like this, there is something wrong if you can't get

yourself up for a game, especially a local derby and boys you are playing

against in Welsh competition. We have shown the last couple of weeks

we can do it, it just means we needed to do it for a full game

against a quality side like the Ospreys. That is what we needed

unfortunately we delivered it. Great television as well, thank you, well

done. The smile said it all. Ellis Jenkins

was a deserved man of the match for the Cardiff Blues, there were a

number of contenders right the way through that 15, one of which was

Alex Cuthbert. I think he may have been your man of the match but we

said if the Blues scored first, it was over and it was the work of Alex

Cuthbert that made the try. Speech and Alex Jenkins did a lot of

credit, from an injury, along lay-off, like he did. Credit the

coaching staff as well, some great first up plays, intricate lines of

moment, this is the training field, and he bursts through and gets

across. This sets up a try because later in the piece, he is in again.

That is the player I showed in the masterclass at the start of the show

and it put the Blues on the front foot, the Ospreys can't even get a

penalty. And it is the old man, Taufa'ao Filise, who gets over. Well

worked unconstructive and executed. Cheeky pass from Lloyd Williams, as

was referenced and commentary. Let's speak to a member of the losing

side, Rhys Webb. Commiserations on the defeat, was it

just one of those days and you have to concede the Blues were the better

team? Look, they lived off our errors, that was the story of the

game. We just couldn't keep hold of the ball and to be fair, every time

we knocked it on or dropped the ball, they capitalised and scored

and credit has to go to the Blues on this day. You were missing Dan

Biggar and Alun Wyn Jones. How much of a loss are they? They are two

very influential players and any side would miss them but we have

guys here who come in and do the job and are as good as those players but

it was down to our errors today, that cost us, and obviously we went

in losing but we came out to try and start the second half fresh at nil-

nil but it seemed like we didn't listen to anything at half-time and

they scored first and it was back to the drawing board. How confident are

you with two games to go that you can put it right and qualified for

the play-offs? With the scoreboard, it doesn't seem like it but it is

fine margins, giving the ball of these or giving away turnovers easy,

it is these little things and it is in our hands. That is the main

thing. All credit goes to the Blues today, I thought they were

brilliant. Thanks for your time and fingers crossed for the Lions as

well. We have Danny Wilson, winning coach, smiling, you can then very

quickly, thanks. Some of that performance. Fantastic. Derbies are

won on physicality and we came second to them if at times today but

we were physical and now imprint on the game led to some fantastic

tries. That performance has been coming, some team was going to copy

it and that has been building for three or four games. We knew we had

a lot of injury problems in the middle part of the season and a lot

of our best players weren't available. We need our best players

on the rugby field whenever we can. The last few weeks, the quality has

shown when they have come back in, we could have beaten all stand to be

the Ospreys here is great and hopefully we can keep building. Have

a good night. I am sure he will, along with all of

the Blues squad. You made the point at half-time that of the Blues'

speedball was letting them launch attack after attack. Danny Wilson

talked about the physicality, they won in every aspect of the game but

it was the speed of ball that allowed them to get the backs away.

If you strip rugby down to its basics, it is running with intent.

This is Cuthbert running with intent, running at space, roll on

the floor, ball placement, Lloyd Williams, we go again. Josh McGee

the running hard. The ball is on the floor, the first guy there clearing

up. Ball placement, look how quick that ball is. And when you do that,

you get your best players in their best positions. Huget Gareth

Anscombe in position, you get the likes of Willis Halaholo running

into space and it starts movement with intent of ball placement and

guys clearing, making sure there is no threat. I was usually this back

and it surprised by the Ospreys defence. Three things, one they

didn't compete and two, they didn't come off airline, which amazed me.

You have to do one or the other, certainly against that quality and

they didn't win the collisions. Physicality, the Blues blew them off

the park. Which is so uncharacteristic, we talked about it

with your masterclass about how the Ospreys defence is statistically the

best in the league. They have been happy to contain double tackles and

holds, but if you lose the physicality... Another area they

lost it was at the line-out. Danny prepared the side very, very well.

The boys executed it, yes, but off the lack of line ad platform, the

Blues could get physical and destruct. This was just before

half-time, crucial time for the Ospreys, yellow card and they held

them out. Technically very good, no over emotion, just keeping the

Ospreys at bay. And when they did try to get going, little things like

distracting, knowing whether ball is going, overthrown, they were very

good in all aspects of the game today. The Ospreys are a shadow of

the team we saw in the first half of the season. The Ospreys dressing

room looks like a miserable place right now, stark contrast to what

you imagine is going on in the Blues dressing room. Rhys Webb alluded to

it in the interview, they have two arounds to go and still in the top

four, although Scarlets could displace them by the end of the

night. What do they need to do to re-galvanised themselves for the

final push? I'm sure Steve will talk about that and they have the park

today as quickly as possible, but also watched the video in detail and

know where they went wrong. They spilled the ball too many times.

Hamlet times did they have opportunities to score? Numerous

crumbs, line-outs, in the Blues 22 and didn't even get a shot. Which is

disappointing, they have to go to basics, go back to the defence we

saw in the early half of the season, really attacking teams. How quickly

the Titan term because it is only a month, six weeks, since we thought

the Ospreys would arguably get a home semifinal. Now they are

clinging on for dear life to get a play-off spot. Momentum plays a huge

part in professional rugby, when you are singing and winning, it is

great, but that is four in a row for the Ospreys, into uncharted

territory almost in the crucial part of the season. Ulster have their

tails up, Scarlets have their tails up, it could be a squeaky couple of

weeks. The Blues have nothing to play for other than that European

spot and we said maybe against your team, Quins, but does this mark a

turning point for the Blues question mark Danny Wilson suggested it is

what they have been aiming towards. I hope so, suddenly they have an

opportunity to get into the Champions Cup next year and that

would have been their goal from the start of the season, no doubt, and

they have really played some fantastic rugby. They need to take

that into the next few games and they have a great chance. Lovely
