Day Two - Highlights Snooker: Welsh Open Highlights

Good evening, plenty of drama from the third day of the BetVictor Welsh

Open, starting with the leading Welsh hope Mark Williams. If you're

with us in earlier you would have seen him will on his way to a 2-0

lead against Rod Moller. We join on the third frame, with Rod Lawler at

the table, no score. COMMENTATOR: You could have said it

would have been safe with the red and a chance for Mark Williams, and

brown is available. An easy shot for him, but it allows him to get onto

the red, which is available. He will be disappointed, he had a

fluke to get that, but a real chance to score heavily. Even though Mark

Williams are struggling with his tip and that. But he has had the little

breaks, 31, 35, but still not yet in control with his tip and that will

only come by playing with it. He has not had much time to practice with

that. The chilly 60 minutes before the match it came off. -- literally

were directly behind the shot, it did not look like he had put any

site on the map but still overcut it. But whatever the equation, the

scenario, that will cost him the match.

Mark Williams will be very relieved, now he has a few hours tonight or

first thing in the morning when he can knock this tip in even more and

he will be delighted, because Rod Lawler has played very well in this

match. That puts the match beyond any

reasonable doubt at all. We have our Welshman in the last 16.

It hasn't been vintage Mark Williams but as I said earlier that new tip

causing a problem and doing well to win this match. Credit to Rod

Lawler, 3-0 behind, played his best snooker, but not enough in the end.

I was 100 times better than yesterday. But it was funny, Arbeit

20-25 minutes before I went out, I miscue and took a huge chunk out of

the tip and I had to get a new tip on, which is not ideal, but I

suppose in some ways it helped me because I knew I had to concentrate

even harder, really, because it can be sliding enough without the new

tip, but taking that into account overall I thought I played much,

much better than last night, which wasn't that hard.

Wriddhiman Saha the man tonight, into the last 32, but what about the

man who made all the headlines for his 147 maximum refusal? -- Michael

to the man tonight. Ronnie O'Sullivan was against Tian Pengfei.

COMMENTATOR: Having a about. Something on there. -- having a look

about. That was easy. I am afraid when you lose the balls,

you have to play the good safety, so important to keep your opponent off

of the table. I am are so many times by people, why do the top players

get intimidated by playing against Ronnie O'Sullivan? I hope they

watched the first three. They will ask again. -- I hope those people

watched the first frame. If he was to go on and cleared up

here, make another century, but a long way to go mind, and the last

no emotion, no motions, that gets his opponents down a little bit. It

is a good thing to do, though. You feel the only ball that. Him

him making the century is the green. He has tried to move the green, but

missed it, so he will have to play at the yellow. I should say he will

have to play the double. It wasn't to be. Tian Pengfei has a real task

on his plate this afternoon against Ronnie O'Sullivan, who leads 2-0.

at the table. COMMENTATOR: I think Ronnie can get

to the potting angle. If you can, that is the poor shot, played by

Tian Pengfei. No problem. He has kept good control of the cue ball.

He has got a plant coming up here. He has gone to the black spot, years

on the black of course, the reds are available. He was always looking to

get that black spot clear. That is handy, he has brought the

pink interplay, a little bit looser, at least, from the right, it was

typed up against the right. It is a matter of what angle he has got on

the blue now. See how he moves this ball, not as good as normal. Try to

avoid the green, obviously. He does not have another plant on,

does he? Yes. He has earned the right, the

way he has played. Couple of options. Write to the left

centre. If this goes in, the end is very near. Tian.

He has not done a lot wrong, his chances have been very few and far

between. He has just come up against The Rocket, full power.

He is on it. Not in a great position with the rest in his hand, not much

angle on the red. Remember Stephen Hendry telling me

that he had many battles with Ronnie O'Sullivan and the difference

between winning and losing was who had the great splits, both players

were excellent at moving the balls around and if they had a bad split

and the other player was having a good split, that was the difference

between them. Stephen Hendry was dominating the game at that time.

He has missed that. Still on this red. He missed the cannon on the

green. Another good pot. At the moment, it is very easy to him. Very

comfortable out there. Unbelievable performance.

Have to get up and make another 100. I am sure, this crowd would love him

too. He has moved the red. He needs one good shot. And then goes the

red, this is quite unbelievable. If he clears up, another century there.

In the last five frames, he has played, four centuries made.

Obviously, that controversial 146. I think Ronnie O'Sullivan would be

the first to say it does not get much better than this. Absolutely

flawless. What an unbelievable performance.

Tian will be very disappointed, he did not get into the match, but

Ronnie O'Sullivan, the comfortable winner, it he must have his eyes on

this Welsh Open prize once again. Tian is a good player. He has been

consistently getting results, he has had a good tournament. For me, I was

obviously pleased with the big breaks that I made, three centuries

and Dan 80 or so, I was quite content. I am more confident about

my game is going to come now, I'm starting to cue a lot better. When

you start to play with confidence, results come. I am still probably

not playing as well as I was in 2012, 2013 and 2014, but that is

inevitable, when you hit 40 you'd expect something to slow down. When

someone does something different, it shocks a lot of people, maybe and

especially a 147 and the chance to make a 147, it was not a guarantee,

in theory the pink was the right shot to play for. Obviously, it has

caused a bit of a row and obviously it has divided people on their

opinion. At the time, when you crossed that line and you go to

play, you go into a world of your own and you do not have time to

think about everything other than what you are doing there and then

over the space of 25 years. I have done a lot of things I regret and

got wrong and I have done a lot of things that I got right and you can

only look back at the end of your career and ask if I got it right

most of the time and most of the time I would like to think I did. He

certainly got it right today it was a good day for Ronnie O'Sullivan.

Early on we sought Mark Williams make it through to the third round

but would he have the company of any other Welshman? Michael White was up

against Tom Ford and we will pick it up with the two locked at 3-3, Ford

at the table leading 43-17. The contact there was superb. Well

played. That is a superb shot from Tom Ford, it has to be said. Hope

for Michael's sake he conceived the red beside the pink and they can, he

might be able to parted in to the right corner. -- pot. They think he

is looking to take this on. What a great shot-macro. He was never in

any doubt -- shot. Looking at that, he was always going to go for that

shot. He knew he would be on the black and was not certain to lead

the red on if he missed it. It was a great pot. Now them.

There has never been more than one frame between these two. Going to

take much, never a certain winner at the moment though, at the moment

there is. Just the brown then to be safe in

this deciding frame. A match that has swayed back and forth

throughout, really. Lots of quality, but quite a number of mistakes from

both players. An excellent match to watch, the crowd enjoyed it stop a

lot of them were Welsh and they will be pleased that Michael White won

but Tom Ford has played his part in this match as well.

There will be a deep throughout them for Michael White, he has finally

gotten through unbeaten Tom Ford, by 4-3. I was looking good, at three

all in the last frame when he put me on the cushion and he was about 20

points in front. I had one chance and I took it. I was very pleased

with my form today. It is only going to give me confidence for the rest

of the tournament. One match at a time, one shot at a time and we will

see how it goes. White will join Williams in the last 32. What about

Matthew Stevens? Stevens took the lead and let us take you into frame

six with Martin O'Donnell at the table, no score.

The cushion first, just for safety. He would want to -- the White to

Gwen off it, obviously. -- to go in. That was a terrific shot and he knew

if he left it, he was going to leave an easy opportunity at the

right-hand corner. This was a very confident shot. Now he has got a

very good chance. 30 or 40 points sitting here. Before he has really

got to do much. It is good to see Matthew Stevens playing back near

his best. Too good a player for the way he has been the last couple of

seasons, he has not really competed at the business end of tournaments.

I actually thought, many years ago, he was a certainty to become world

champion. Lost in a couple of finals. You can never say never now.

As the years are rolling past, it is getting that much harder.

He has also had a few personal problems over the years, which does

not help when you're on the circuit and things, so much talent.

These two lads who were with him today, I have seen them come up,

they are growing a bit, time goes by as they say. They are handsome, the

pair of them. They will not be struggling to find a wife when they

get older, I'd tell you! I do not think Matthew has done that

well in the Welsh Open over the years. He has got the class to win

tournaments, still... Trying to bring a few reds into

play. Now he is on the other side of the blue. In and out now, that is

the blue. Just having a look at the two reds to the right of the pack.

A little shot. It is amazing once you lose position, your intended

position on the blue. It plays tricks with your mind a little bit.

You see the image of the shaft and it does not go there and it is a

good bit unsettling, does not put you off a great deal.

Tough pot with the rest will stop --.

Very well played. That could be a clincher there, his one good case.

He's going into the pack and it could all be over -- kiss.

I think he is being a little bit unfortunate here. He was looking to

see if he could get through to that read to the left and it was very

tight. That was not kind to him, the split on the red was good but the

cue ball stuck on one of them and he thinks he can get through to it.

A great shot. Very close to the winning line. Couple more red and

colours, one more good shot, good positional play. Need this red to go

in, off two questions for the black. He hit that really well, too well.

-- cushions. A lot higher on the black than he would have liked, but

he has to make sure of the pot. He could just about miss this red.

No problem there. This is it, frame ball.

It is a good time to start playing well, he has looked very impressive.

What a great chance here to play from an awkward position. He will be

delighted. He has been at his best for a while. He was telling the

players, you do not lose your skill. What a shame, I thought we would

have seen another 100. Matthew Stevens wins. The last three frames

it was always pleasing. It has not been great for me, but hopefully I

can get to the final and maybe win it. Let us round up some of the

other results on day two. More good news from a Welsh perspective

because Ryan Day is through after a win over Mike Dunn but the challenge

from Daniel Wells is over, he lost to Marco Fu. Sean Murphy, speaking

through 4-3 over Mitchell man. The world number six Judd Trump is

through as well. John Higgins, the defending champion won his match.

Ding Junhui beat Joe Swail and Neil Robertson saw off Stuart Carrington

and as for Mark Selby, believe it or not, he is still out there playing.

There he is sat down. This is the latest core, he is held at 2-2 by

Peter lines. They will be going deep into the night. If you love snooker
