Good Evening. So Glad You Could Join As For The Biggest Night In Welsh

Snooker, The Final Of The Betvictor Welsh Open. This Much Is Being

Broadcast Around The World As These Two Global Stars, Ronnie

And Ding Junhui Battle It Out To Lift This Trophy. We all have

already had eight friends of this match, here is what has happened so

far. This is a match we are all looking forward to, and two players

in the best -- who are the best in the world are playing. Injury,

didn't compete in the safety department, and he will be very

disappointed with his first session. He lost the last red. Things started

to go wrong from there. He kept making mistakes, Ronnie capitalised

on them. He took a 3-0 lead. Ronnie was on a break of 49, it looked like

a kick, but it could have been the table that moved and Ding pinched

the frame. 3-1. Ding looked favourite to take the next frame. He

then miscued and hit the pink. Foul shot and Ronnie O'Sullivan cleared

up and won the frame. Ronnie O'Sullivan, he takes a 5-1 lead. The

next frame looked to be Ding. Ronnie extended his lead 6-1. To have any

chance in this match, Ding would have to win the last frame. Ronnie

O'Sullivan led early, and then Ronnie potted an unbelievable

yellow. He went on to win the frame to go 7-1 in front. Tonight's

session is impossible for Ding unless he makes a terrific start.

What an amazing atmosphere in Newport! And our first player has it

all to do. Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome Ding Junhui.

What a fantastic reception. Next up, the five-time world champion,

they call him the Rocket, it is Ronnie O'Sullivan.

So, Ronnie O'Sullivan, the reigning world champion, in the driving seat,

7-1 up, and Ding Junhui needs to make a great start. Your big final

commentators are Darren Morgan and Willie Thorne.

Good evening everybody. What an ovation these two stars have had.

The hairs on my head went up. The scoreline is reading 7-1. It means

that Ding, to have any chance, he needs to win for Mac frames to have

any chance after the interval. -- four frames. Ding didn't perform

this afternoon. Ronnie has, as he has done for most of the week, he

has played pretty good. He has been terrific in pinching frames he has

lost. A couple have got away from Ding early on.

He will be playing for pride. He has not given up totally. He will try to

make the score a little bit more respectable. He will look to take a

couple of frames, and maybe then he will have a chance.

That is a touching ball which makes the shot a lot easier.

That was another touching ball, so he was back in the same spot. This

looks tempting, this read down the side cushion. -- this red.

This time, Ding can see the left-hand side of the pack. He will

not be playing the same safety. Ronnie was tempted because Ding had

such a poor safety shot. It was on the baulk line, the cue ball. So,

Ronnie took it on. He played it as a shot to nothing. His parting has

been exceptional this week. Three out of every four he plays he is

knocking in. Ding, on the other hand, one in every five years

knocking in, so he is struggling. -- one in every five he is knocking in.

Presumably, the black was not available. We were talking to Ronnie

before he came out. He was very relaxed, as you would be, 7-1 up. He

said he was enjoying his snooker, he is playing like he was when he was

15, 16. For many years, he was striving for that, and he didn't

feel that he was doing that. But he does now. It is interesting, he was

saying that every time he plays now, he wins. Because he is past 30 years

of age, he is enjoying it a lot more. He is on borrowed time, as far

as a regular tournament winner is, he probably realises he has three or

four years to dominate, he is enjoying it more. Well, that was a

poor shot. His break comes to an end at 20. His

match against Barry Hawkins, he led 4-1. Barry Hawkins was 59 on, and

Ronnie made a clearance, the best clearance I have seen since Alex

Higgins against Jimmy White at the Crucible. It was as good if not

better than that. Ding made it easier for Ronnie

because he played a lot of -- he moved a lot of the baulk colours.

Ding is not competing with Ronnie at also far. His potting has been

poor. He has been outplayed by Ronnie. Ding, we would expect him to

win at least one of these battles. He hasn't. He isn't quite convincing

at the moment. Against Joe Walker, he was 4-2 behind, he made a 100 to

win 5-4. That is the kind of form he is going to have to find to get back

into this match this evening. The best part of 1100 people here at

the Newport Centre, and you can hear a pin drop. The odd little cough.

This auditorium had four tables earlier on when we started from 128

players. As you can see, it is the perfect snooker arena.

Darren mentioned Ding has moved the baulk colours. It is amazing, the

difference it has made. If you get within two or three inches within

that cushion, it is difficult to play a good safety.

Every time Ding has had to come to the table, he is either tight and it

all just off. -- he is either tight under it or just off. That is very

unfortunate. If that had stopped or caught the jaw, O'Sullivan would

have been in all kinds of trouble. If Ronnie can slot this long red the

left corner, guaranteed position on the black.

Well, first shot we expected him to knocking, and he didn't. -- to knock

in. That is too tight. I think you will go up to the corner.

Could he squeeze this in? Absolutely! That was tough. And this

is a tough black. All of a sudden, this becomes a very

good chance. In a funny sort of way, there will

be less pressure on Ding at the moment, even the fact he is so far

behind. I am sure even though the fans

wouldn't wish this on Ding, the way he has played this season and

earlier this week, he has been the man of the season so far, and it

must be upsetting to see him playing so poorly. Ronnie O'Sullivan has

made such an impact in these last six or seven months on the circuit,

he appears to have everybody, kind ofDott not looking forward to

playing him. Good shot. If he can hit the one in

the middle fourball, that would open the frame up.

That is more like the positional shots we are be used to seeing from

Ding. Extremely good around the black spot.

He lost the cue ball a little bit. He may be able to hold it for the

two reds. That was a poor shot. That was a good recovery. You can

notice the difference from the afternoon. He lost a couple like

that, into the corners. He allowed Ronnie to get back into the frames

and pinch them. He will have to make a frame-winning break here.

When the pink goes back onto its spot, he's going to beat have to be

careful -- is going to have to be careful with these two reds.

I would be amazed if Ding didn't go on to win this frame now.

The only thing we haven't had in this match is a century.

He wants to make sure of his unassailable lead in this frame.

Yes, and a couple more shots, Ronnie would have stopped the rot. He was

3-1 down -- he was 3-0 down before he won his first frame. He only

needs the cannon now to make sure. And that is OK.

We are still expecting him to what this red. -- to pot this red. Which

he does. This has been very, very good. He has shown us what he is

capable of, and he is not going to give up just yet.

Oh, you are kidding! Quarter positional shot this is! Fabulous

stuff! -- what a positional shot that is.

The green ball will be the problem. He has left an angle on it.

A chance for his eighth century. In this tournament. Both Ding and

Ronnie have made seven each this week.

Very well done! That this afternoon would not have gone in. That is how

poorly he was cueing, and he will get a thunderous round of applause

if he gets a century from this capacity crowd.

Very, very well played! He was 7-1 behind. He came out firing on all

cylinders. And in goes the black for a clearance of 109. Ding Trail 7-2.

That is what this final needed. Isn't it a brilliant century?

Dominic Dale is my guest in the studio. Dominic, that really would

have killed the match if Ding didn't win. Now we perhaps do have a real

match on our hands. The brightest possible start. While Ronnie needs

to more frames to win, the longer par-mac can keep Ronnie from

winning, the better chance he has. As soon as Ronnie gets to eight

frames, it could be difficult. If Ding can keep Ronnie on seven, keep

winning frames, who knows. It is a forlorn hope, but we can hope. Some

of the previous rounds, the match against Joel Walker, Ding has done

this. He got himself into a position where he needed to get to a deciding

frame, and it gets the best out of him. When you get a century, you get

the focus and you get into the zone. If Ding can keep that going, and

keep playing superb snooker, he is capable of doing 80, 90, 100, just

the same Ronnie can. And if he produces the same form, he will come

back. Wilkie approach this carefully? Or if you are so far

behind, do you need to go for your shots? Because you need such a

miracle, you might as well give it a go, and not miss out for want of

trying. You have got to try something, you've got to make

something happen, hedge your bets. And hope. And hope you get some help

from your opponent. Ding Junhui this evening. His fans will be delighted

he takes the first frame of the evening.

That was a poor break from Ronnie. Has this brown come to his rescue?

It looks like it has. He was very fortunate, Ronnie. If Ding can take

another one, it could get Ronnie thinking a little bit, keeping him

in his chair. You have to say, it would take a lot because Ronnie has

been calm and collected all week, total control of his emotions. More

importantly, his cueing action is great.

He has missed the brown. If he had kissed brown, you would have left

Ronnie and starter. -- he would have. It is amazing, isn't it? We

have been talking about how he has been missing the baulk colours all

week. This is a chance if the black goes to the left corner. I won't say

it is a great chance but it is a chance.

His long game has been very poor today but well done. And that was a

lot better pace he played that. He was hitting those a bit harder this

afternoon but this is the Ding Junhui we have come to love and

watch playing. He still managed to generate the backspin on the cue

ball. Now, if he can get rid of those two reds to the left of the

black, he has an excellent chance. I am sure Ding spent a lot of time

on the practice table between sessions to find some rhythm.

He has queued up there as if he is going to play this as a run through

cannon. A risky shot. Just under it, that black, by a

couple of inches. So effing that was the right

decision and he has played that well, just to the right side of the

blue. Starting to look promising. Obviously a long way back for him to

come back. He is going to have to play brilliant snooker tonight. And

Ronnie will have to help him a bit. All of a sudden, everything is

finishing perfect. If he gets rid of this red now the black is open to

both corners. That red just above the black is causing a problem in

going into them. If that was out of the way, it would be perfect going

into this cluster. Now, you could just screw back and

kissed the one on the extreme left-hand side of the pack. The 12

away from the pink. And that would leave him on the red into the

corner. Perfect. The boy is playing this evening!

He has a perfect angle if he wanted to screw into this cluster of reds.

Play with lots of bottom to open these reds up. He has one out in the

open he could drop onto. But he has the perfect angle here. Just drag up

into the gap. And that's OK. Not quite the way he

has planned but he will take it. Awkward cueing but one good pot. And

this could be real business. Yes, I've mentioned earlier on he had

back-to-back centuries against Joel Walker winning that.

The key thing is getting passed 74. That is when players will need

snooker 's. After that you can go for the century.

He is playing these now, hitting through the ball. A locked crisper

and very positively. -- a lot. Just having the cue ball cleaned to make

sure it doesn't get a kick in the next couple of shots. He is growing

with confidence with every shot. And he has the backhand so he can

now. -- he has got. And he has the backhand so he can

place the cue ball mostly and is finishing perfectly on virtually

every shot he makes. Ronnie won't be troubled at all at the moment,

obviously, because he hasn't really had any good chances to win a frame

so far. But if he got to kind of five, that is when he would start to

look behind him. So now Ding Junhui will be feeling

so much better. A bit premature with the round of the applause there! But

now they can applaud because that is frame over. Can he get his

back-to-back centuries? Whatever happens, this has been terrific. If

he feels so much better that he has come out and showed this capacity

crowd what he can do as this afternoon was a bit of a blip. Blip.

He can move off the cushion here with the black. He tried to move one

out there and did well. Amazingly enough, he can move the other red

out if he wants. He tried to run it down the cushion. I thought he might

have played for the loose red to make sure of the end red. Well, in

it has gone! What a shot! What a terrific shot! So, this for the

second hundred. And he works it in the late -- he whacks it in. This is

an excellent performance from Ding. This is so good because he would

have been coming out to night and the crowd giving him a very warm

reception but a bit embarrassed at the scoreline.

But whatever happens now, he has proven he is capable. Yes, he will

be feeling so much happier. No matter what happens in this match,

he has made a good account tonight. And everything is so easy for him

now. It is like shelling peas. We could see him play a flash shot.

Well... The pink didn't go in, it wasn't to be. 121 to go with his 109

of the previous frame and Ding Junhui will be absolutely ecstatic.

Ronnie O'Sullivan, I won't say he has a lot to worry about but a bit

more than he had. Well, Ronnie O'Sullivan has gone out

to collect his thoughts. He hasn't potted a ball for 20 odd minutes.

This evening it is totally different as Ding has dominated. Is eye

alluded to previously, this is what he is capable of doing. -- this is

what I alluded to. This is how good he can be, hence he has won four

ranking events this season. He will try to keep this going and Ronnie

has to do something to stop this. When you see how Ding is playing

now, how on earth did you account for how he was playing this

afternoon? In a sense, the match was still ongoing and the scoreline

wasn't a severe going into this evening's session but now in name is

able to go out like a practice session, and if he wins maybe one

more frame to get it back to 7-4, then he is right back in the match.

-- wasn't as severe. -- but now Ding Junhui is able. He does look so

relaxed but perversely, the more frames he wins, will the pressure

then start building onto him, because I guess he can play in a

carefree way at the moment, not really expecting to get back into

the match, but the more he does, the more it might dawn on him, hang on,

I have a chance here? Yes. If he gets to 7-5, there is an interval to

come. I'd guess is that did happen, you

would want to carry on. -- if that did happen, he would want. Like I

say, one not too concerned yet. -- Ronnie. When an opponent plays

wonderfully, like Ding has in the opening two frames, you just think,

well, he has cleared up, that is great. You stop kicking yourself

when you have three or four chances in the frame and you don't win.

His safety this afternoon is so poor. Tonight he has played

virtually everyone into baulk. Pretty close to that cushion. A

chance with that loose red to get back into baulk.

How bad was the flick off the green? Ronnie is

pot. He needs to miss the brown. It is OK.

This is the first possible attempt at a pot that Ronnie has had for

quite some time. As long as he screws back eight or nine inches...

Could run through for blue all baulk colour. We know he likes to keep it

this end of the table if he can. He couldn't have hit that pack of

red is much better than that. -- reds. I think he's looking at the

red to the yellow pocket. He reds. I think he's looking at the

have to cue this very well. Well, you missed out by a long way.

-- he missed that. Virtually a bit straight popped into the yellow

pocket and doesn't have to do anything to the cue ball to come

back. Ronnie missed that by quite a long way. Could get onto the black

without any problem here. The first red he knocked in, well, an absolute

joke, really. But he knew if that had gone in, it was a great chance.

I think Ding will be very surprised he has missed that after the way he

has played the first two frames this evening. He will be very

disappointed. That was a big shot. Just made sure

of it. Obviously he has won to the right centre as well. -- one. Been

doing that the last couple of matches. I think he has a fibre

sticking out from his tip. We have seen him using his nail to push the

tip to the side, just to push that fibre back in. It wouldn't surprise

me if he changes his tip after this event. His great friend and

colleague, the renowned artist Damien Hirst, has been with him

virtually every tournament this season and it is certainly more

relaxed when he has a good friend. And Michael on the right there. Come

over from Spain to watch him play. I know they all went to something

earlier in the week and very relaxed, Ronnie, this week.

They are not spread like they were when Ding made his century in the

previous two frames, so a little more to do here for a frame-winning

contribution. I don't think he has the angle on

this red to go of the blue, so the black.

Ooh, mind you, I think this has gone too straight. He has pulled a face

there. So whether he will play a deep screw two cushions to get into

baulk. That is way he could possibly think about finishing. Just had a

full look into the commentary box as he walked by. -- a little look.

Now, has the brown come to Ding's rescue or could Ronnie get through

to the red? He can put it, clearly. -- pot it.

He needs a good pot now, slot this read down the cushion. Just make

sure he gets it off the side rail. Half ball blew into the pack. --

half ball, blew into the pack. If this angle goes right, he once they

fall ball into the pink and these reds should open up very nicely. --

he wants a full ball. That is the angle he has on the

blue. Didn't get the desired cannon we

were talking about. I would be very surprised if O'Sullivan takes this

on. At first glance, how does he play to get back into baulk?

The pin, so if he plays one of the reds just by the pink, the pink is

in the way to get the white back into baulk. -- the pink. Or he could

just play a negative little roll up to the right. -- the red.

Just playing a safety shot, trying to put the back out of commission to

that pocket anyway. If he leaves that long red on 40 name, he will

take it on. Is he going to attempt that pot in the middle? -- on for

Ronnie. Gone for the pot, and what a good

one. The kiss didn't work, though. Unless he is straight on the green

he wouldn't have played it. If the green can go, he is right back into

this frame. I think he has just enough angle. The cue ball will be

coming back down towards the blue at this end of the table. When he put

his hand there, he is just going to roll this in and leave himself the

distance but you feel he could get quite close to this end of the

table. Only just went in off the jaw! I think he thought he had

missed that! It is interesting because he stood up abruptly a bit

there and normally he stays down. He jumped up on that shot. And this is

the key shot. Just got into that too much. Would

like to have finished lower on the black. So good. Just a slight angle.

Well, the next five reds and five colours will put him right back into

the frame. Obviously the yellow could be a problem for either

player. He would love to bring the yellow

into play but he don't because he can't cover the pocket up unless he

gets somewhere near the green. But he went -- -- he will not dare. This

could go wrong. That is what he's doing, bringing yellow interplay.

And that is an excellent shot. Well played.

Going for the red just below the pink spot.

That was a bit of a free shot and he has caught that very thick.

I think certain individuals out there can hear our dulcet tones!

Just being asked to turn the volume down. What are they trying to say?!

That could have been the one. That could have been the one to get right

back into this match. Such an important pot. The first real

pressure shot Ding has had to play this evening.

Looks like O'Sullivan is going to be just one frame away from victory. 44

in front so just one blue and one more red.

Ronnie will be breathing a sigh of relief because it could have been

7-4. I don't think Ding will carry on,

what ever happens. It must be a long time since

O'Sullivan has played eight frames, eight winning frames, without making

a century. Obviously, you can't make one in a frame you lose!

It's so nice to see Ronnie enjoying his snooker again, rather than

wanting to quit again. He really is enjoying everything he is doing at

the moment. He is in a very good place.

Well, Ding had a good chance to pinch the frame, but O'Sullivan goes

one away from victory. A crucial frame. He now needs one

more which changes the feel of the whole match now. It does. That will

have settled Ronnie down. He is now one frame away from victory. Shame

for Ding, he had a couple of opportunities, but he was getting

the wrong angles, he couldn't get the break going. In the end, he was

faced with this tricky red, and he knew he could of got right back into

the frame. He had previously developed the yellow, the balls were

therefore came to pot. What's so difficult now for top won Mikey

knows he cannot afford to slip up any more. -- what is difficult for

now is that he knows he cannot afford to slip up. He will still put

in a great performance tonight. You never know what can happen after the

interval. What is it like to be in this position, one frame away? Some

players, it brings the best out of them. Other players start to get

nervous. Not Ronnie, he is a champion and all the champions love

to get as close as possible to winning. I cannot see him slipping

up. Could this be the final frame, when Ronnie O'Sullivan becomes the

Welsh Open champion? I am sure his heart is beating quite hard.

So, this is it. Ronnie breaking off. Ding Junhui must win the remaining

six frames. The end could be very near. I know

this capacity crowd will be wishing for a couple more frames.

Ding has got to be a little bit careful.

He now needs a bit of help, and he hasn't got it. He should have,

around to have a look. -- he should have come around to have a look at

that, to be honest. All of a sudden, this is looking

like a very good chance. He has some reds out in the open.

Touch a good positional player. -- such a good positional player. And

he is fantastic to watch. Definitely at his next visit, you

will need ticket the red at the top of the point of the pyramid. He will

spread them far and wide, and he is bound to be on a red in either

corner. That is a shame, he will be disappointed with that.

Can't believe they didn't split better than that, the way he hit it.

It has happened once before in a frame to win a tournament. Stephen

Hendry was playing Ronnie O'Sullivan many years ago. It was 8-8, and

Stephen Hendry made 147 in the last frame. He won't have anything else

in his mind but 147 in this frame now.

This has been a better taking performance from Ronnie O'Sullivan.

All week, the clearances he has pulled off consistently, frames he

had no right to win. He makes everything look so easy.

This is glorious. One more red to be sure of winning the frame. And, of

course, the match. He can really knuckle down to try to treat this

crowd to a 147. Well, ladies and gents, this is an

excellent chance. He doesn't have to play on the

cannon on the red and pink because the bottom red will pot. Could we

finish this magnificent week here at the Newport Centre with the Welsh

Open with a 147? It would be fitting because he has played so well this

week. APPLAUSE

He just gets higher on every ball. That is the key, you have to get

higher every time. Well, that is 13 of them. Damien

Hirst and his friend, Mike. Could it happen? Could it happen? ! It is

perfect. The fact he is a decent left-handed player, he might try to

get a left-handed shot on this. Now, surely, he is not going to make a

147 or that left-handed deep screw, is he?

APPLAUSE That is perfect!

What a shot, left-handed, ladies and gents. Unbelievable!

It is on now. Just this one shot, and he gets perfect on the green.

That has gone a bit too far. This is tricky.

Come on, get past the brown. Brilliant shot.

he has made. We are all praying. Come on, Ronnie. To win a tournament

is incredible, and he even has a right smile on his face. This is a

genius at work. He knows he has got it now. He would definitely get a

standing ovation for this one. Playing the last black left-handed!

The genius at work makes a magnificent 147. Greatly appreciated

by everyone in the room, and Ding Junhui. He has won the BetVictor

Welsh Open. The crowd is going berserk at a standing ovation. He is

the BetVictor Welsh Open champion, beating Ding Junhui 9-3. Enjoy.

what we have witnessed. He is smiling. This has been

unbelievable. Ladies and gentlemen, Ding Junhui

I have never experienced an atmosphere like it in my life in 30

years involved in snooker. Did you enjoy it? Ronnie is very good, he

played snooker when I was a little kid, I watched him. He is like

magic. I enjoyed very much. It was a nice 147! This man is cool! Yeah,

I've never made a 147 like that. Radiant. I have a lot of things to

learn. So, I hope I can be better. You have been fantastic. Ding

Junhui, ladies and gentlemen! You are getting the hang of this

game, aren't you? It took me a while! I haven't experienced

anything like it. When did you think, this match is on? At about

48. I thought, I looked at the scoreboard, and I saw it was all

blacks, and then I concentrated on winning the match. It was more

important. When I got 270, I thought, I've got to go for it the

balls were perfect. And left-handed? The black, obviously,

it should be right-handed, but it is not you, is it? I have made 11

normal right-handed. So, that counts as a left-handed 147. Otherwise, it

wouldn't have counted. Absolutely brilliant! In terms of Newport, and

this tournament, and the reception, how good has it been? The fans have

been awesome. It is not one of my favourite venues. It is great

crowds. I love coming here. -- it is one of my favourite venues. It is a

shame it won't be here next year. Cardiff is not a patch on this

venue. I want to say thanks to the fans because they've been fantastic

over the years. And I want to congratulate Ding. He has won four

events already this year. If he had won this one, he would have equalled

Stephen Hendry's record. I fancy he will do it. Once I start slowing

down, he will dominate because he is a top guy. And he plays the game how

it should be played. So, enjoy him, because he is a fantastic talent. I

just hit my form today. If he had taken a few of his earlier chances,

it would have been a close game. No one can beat this guy, he is too

good. You did, you can. Very kind words. Ronnie O'Sullivan, ladies and

Ronnie O'Sullivan! The BetVictor Welsh Open champion of

2014, Ronnie O'Sullivan! Well, that was surely one of the

greatest moments of this sporting season, Ronnie O'Sullivan with a

maximum break to clinch the Welsh Open. And no wonder he looks happy

as he has his photograph taken, this will be the photograph you will see

in the papers tomorrow after that incredible finish. He left the best

till last. A maximum break in the final frame to win 9-3, the third

time Ronnie O'Sullivan has won this title. What a superb layer, really,

the superlatives this week have been running out. He said it was one of

the best games he had ever played, and then to produce a maximum in the

key frame, at a ranking final here at the Welsh Open, well, that is

something only the very, very best players can do. And Ronnie

O'Sullivan really deserves all the applause he is getting this evening.

Dominic, that was something. It was wonderful. They call me the

spaceman, but this man's performances out of this world. We

have seen four centuries in four frames, and to cap it off with a

147, his greatness knows no bounds. He is justifying all the

expectations about him now. This is an incredible season. The defending

world champion, and, of course, he will be going for a fifth world

title. At what a terrific performance this evening. And the

way he finished the match off with three century breaks, including that

maximum. It was a great exhibition in cue striking. The blue at the

end, he had a kick on it. And, you know, he just seemed so super cool.

I was looking for a sign of pressure, some lives, but there was

he going to negotiate that's difficult red? And then when I came

down here, the crowd were going bananas, and I thought, wow! I

thought, it is really on now. The crowd were with Ronnie. It is an

amazing experience. It was a tremendous performance from Ronnie

O'Sullivan. It was Ronnie's 12 maximum, so he has got the world

record now, overtaking Stephen Hendry. We have had a fantastic
