Day 9 Snooker: World Championship Highlights

Second run action continued Ms start our highlights with a match that

many predicted was the type of the round. After the morning session, it

was Ding who held the 6-2 advantage but Trump won the first to trail by

three, when we join them in frame ten, it is Ding leading 54-29 with

just the colours remaining. He has left it and what is worse, the way

he has left it, Judd Trump may be able to bring the black away from

the cushion. You have to say John that really was a terrible shot.

Don't sacrifice the pot for the cannon. But from our commentary

position, it looks as though it is on. You don't want to hit this too

hard. Well if you can't bring the blackout, just pot the yellow and

get good on the green. And he just didn't have the angle but he has got

the angle on the green to get on the brown. The black of course would be

the big problem ball. There were a few frames in the first session, we

were saying it could have been either way. One that Ding stole, in

the fifth frame. Can Judd Trump steals this, it is made a bit harder

now, wrong side of the blue. And of course, that black for a left-hander

on the wrong side of the table. He will be getting concerned, he has

had every chance, how many chances has he had? Four at least. I just

think that Dean has played the wrong shot, Yapp the chance to put Judd in

a lot of trouble, rolling the green tight onto the cushion. The snooker

behind the brown, he chose to take a very difficult and missable brown on

and then chose to not play across the table when he could have played

a good safety shot and if the yellow had gone in it would have been a

frame when and he would have been on the green. So for me he has been

playing the wrong shot. For me, Judd Trump played the wrong shot, I would

have been potting the blue trying to get perfect position onto the pink,

not going on the black. OK he is on the pink but he cannot get close to

the black. No where is the pink ball going? In the pocket! He had a bit

of bad luck earlier in the frame but that was a bit of a good luck there,

that was a wry smile from Ding. That get across the table? Can he get

this black safe. Can he potted? Can he potted it? -- pot it. The he must

have played the pink because he did not apologise for it. It is all on

the black. It is a black shoot out at the Crucible. He played that

well, that is the shot that a lot of the players play nowadays. I think

that Judd will play the cocked hat here. There is always a chance that

it could go on the 11th middle but he also needs to get a good cue

ball. Top spin, side cushion, and then in the middle. He is looking at

it. He has not hit this well, that is

the big problem with Judd from here, I have said it before and said it

again, why do you hit it so hard, you just lose complete control. This

black will give Ding a four frame advantage again, and this is his

fifth chance to win this frame. Can he make this one?

He can! He can, and he will go back to the dressing room very, very

relieved. Judd Trump had a bit of bad luck earlier on, but he did not

take advantage of his luck late on. Ding after two frames, still leads

by 7-3. STUDIO: So into the next frame, it is Ding at the table

already in the lead by 32. COMMENTATOR: Too thin, much too

thin. This frame and one more before the mid-session interval, big frames

for Judd Trump, they are. Poor positional shot, Ding played.

Another terrific pot. He hit it much too hard. I think he is just about

on the brown, luckily. A fantastic pot, from Judd Trump, that was a

very difficult pot, he knocked it in as if it was over the pocket,

incredible cueing. And that one, wiped his feet, using all of the

pocket, and it is a wonderful positional shot.

The fact that he has given this a bit of thought tells me that he is

not happy with the angle on his red, should he hope for the black can go

for the blue all the pink? He has to sided to play for the black but he

needs to slow up, just about. He played that with a touch of

right-hand side just to play the cue ball, he doesn't want to be straight

on this black. And he is not. Just about got there. He has got to take

his chances now, Judd, staying with Ding, every top player I have ever

seen, wants to get in front, and they are very hard to stop. They

don't look behind for danger, they just look for winning line. He

purposefully played that cannon. He has got the red to the right middle

so no problem. He decided that he couldn't

guarantee to get a good position on the pink all the blue, he thought

that was the safest bet. He has just got to screw that shot right though.

And you were mentioning Purdy on about his timing. He has got so much

to power, and he always skews a lot of the balls for me. Good pot. Good

recovery, but you can't keep recovering. Just finishing straight

on this blue. He forced an angle, with the hard

stunning shot to play it very well. And he scores so quickly when he is

playing well, the frames can be over in the blink of an high. I'm not

certain about the availability of these three reds, we can see that's

the bottom one of the three pots, so no need to cannon here, eventually

into the right corner it will release the other two. Straight up

on this pink would have been better. If he can't hole from one of these

three reds, he has always got this red, you would like to play for the

bottom one of the three reds now. Can he play it off the pink? He has

decided that he could. This is to say, him potting this red releases

the other two. This time, inch perfect on the

green. He has taken these very well. He has run out of position a few

times. He has pulled out good pots to keep it going as you usually

expect from Judd. This pink to go 26 points in front, so he will still

need that two remaining reds. It looks like a formality, but let us

not take anything for granted. We have seen so many twists and turns

in matches so far in this Betfred World Championship. And if he is

straight on the blue, that is not the best shot, OK he can find a gap

between the green and the brown but he should have had a better angle

than this, just the blue and the red required. So, 32 ahead, 35

remaining. He will be 33 in front with just 27 remaining. Inc it goes.

It needs to be a colour to clinch the frame. But he didn't. He is now

in a situation where his opponent needs toss snookers. But he should

have been on a colour there. Well, that is a good hot on the

blue, that means that Ding, will not be bringing anything back on the

table -- good pot. Well, 38 points in France, 27

remaining. That equates to three snookers required. He did not get

them so Ding got the next two frames before Trump came back to take frame

14. We will pick them up on the 15th. It is trumped with a break of

46. It was a poor positional shot off the black, if he was playing for

the top one he should have been further up the table, he had a

perfect angle on the black, no excuse for it. So Ding, a chance to

get right back in the frame, a win at this visit? Highly unlikely.

Purposefully played cushion first. The left-hand red at the three, is

definitely pottable, to the left corner pocket. He would like to

flick the extreme right hand red if he could. He played it perfectly.

The yellow is going to be the big problem ball, if he has any idea

about this visit. The scoreboard, 23 points behind. 51

maiming, so plenty of points to play with -- 51 remaining. But the

yellow, could be the big stumbling block here.

So now, we roll the black in. To pot it, and try and cannon the yellow of

the cushion. No. Trying to leave it on the black toucan and the yellow.

I think it will be worth taking a chance because if he had played the

cannon, he has played it for the pink. Has he got the angle on the

pink. He hasn't. That is another reason why perhaps he should have

taken the chance earlier because if he had played the cannon on the

yellow previously, it would have been for the pink onto the green

pockets. That is a great effort. What a shot that is. He has just

managed to make the angle. He has just managed to force the angle, to

disturb the yellow. And now, we have just got to think that he is called

on to win this frame. He looked too straight, forced it over, he can do

that on the superfine crops, flicking the yellow to perfection.

-- superfine cloth. This will really hurt Judd Trump, an opportunity but

he has really struggled this evening. And it just shows you, Ding

Junhui has been struggling the same with Judd Trump all evening. But

now, he just needs this blue and he will be 14 points in front, with 13

remaining. And he has dug deep to make this break, it is a good

performance from Ding Junhui. He missed the pink. One Snooker needed.

But, if Judd does not get that one Snooker, Ding Junhui will have that

five Snooker -- that 5-point advantage. He got the Snooker. He

could have done with that pink coming a little bit away from that

side cushion, then there would have been room around it, but you

wouldn't expect dinked to miss this, just coming off the question. Plenty

of margin for error here. -- Ding to miss this, just coming

off the it looks like it is an easy swerve.

Well, are there any easy swerve is? Judd Trump is back in the frame. He

is back in the frame. I had to say what a clever shot that was from

Judd Trump, Labour Snooker. Meaning that Ding had to swerve around

the black, he played it with too much pace and the swerve did not

come on in time. Obviously, a miss was not called, Darcy Ward to take

this pink on with pace, to go in and out for the black? He could put

being back into play, can he trust himself. -- could play

Ding Junhui back into play. What a choice, do you play safe, do you put

jaw opponent back in? He is going for the cut. He has got to get it.

It is a rattle, but the pink has gone over the corner anyway. How

many chances is he going to gift to Ding this evening? This is another

one wrapped up, and in it goes, so Ding Junhui will mighty relieved.

Judd Trump being in a Snooker. In the end he got it but once again, he

has missed a vital ball, and Ding is five frames clear. This evening

comedy leads 10-5. Soak into a very important last frame of the session,

being his at the table, with one maiming. Stashed in week is at the

table. I'm not sure about playing it that way, John. He has played it all

wrong, he has a chance to win the final frame of the session and go

into the final session just for frames behind. Every chance now that

he will do, he needs to be nicely on the brown, just about on it. So that

brown, that puts in nine points in front. With him being left-handed,

it won't be too much of a problem. He needs up to and including the

blue, to win the frame. I cannot believe the shot that Ding Junhui

left, it was a straightforward shot, to play side cushion hand side

cushion and put it into the middle of the ball cushion, so for me, as I

mentioned a couple of frames ago, Ding Junhui is starting to look

tired and fatigued and I think that was just an example of him not

thinking clearly. He has struggled all week. It looks certain now, see

is going to come out with a four frame advantage, excellent

positional shot, from Judd. But when you are getting lots and lots of

chances, not taking them I would have thought that Ding Junhui will

be to light it to have that four frame advantage. Judd Trump is still

hanging on in there and that is the end of the session. Judd Trump with

opportunities to make it a lot closer. Ding Junhui will be very

happy to still have a four frame advantage with the way he has

played, it is all to play for tomorrow, Ding Junhui is still

favourite but Judd Trump could come back and be a juggernaut, he will

have to you be. STUDIO: What a funny session that was? I think that Judd

Trump will be disappointed with some of his shot selection is, perhaps he

can be the better pleased of the two because he got 4-4 because he was

not playing well. Marco Fu was in the bottom half of the draw, waiting

for the winner of Ronnie O'Sullivan and Barry Hawkins. Barry Hawkins was

winning 4-3 and they resume. COMMENTATOR: The second session is

always the big one in my eyes. He has missed it. Now is he going to

leave a free ball? He probably is. Free ball. New favourite for the

frame, what a turnaround. Ronnie will be wondering how he lost that

one, he is three behind Barry Hawkins. 6-3. And now it is closed

to two again. 6-4 Barry Hawkins. Wonderful, wonderful visit. Very

positive from Barry Hawkins. 8-5 now, Barry Hawkins. He has reduced

his arrears to one, with one more frame to play in this session. He

has stood up to anything that Ronnie has thrown at him this afternoon.

Ronnie will shake his hand saying well played, Barry Hawkins will be

very pleased, he will take a two frame advantage in the important

third session, cannot wait for that. And the final session resumes at

7pm. And in the top half of the draw, John Higgins held a 5-3 at

Wantage Road Ricky Walden, going into this afternoon session. So John

Higgins breaks off in this second session of the second round match.

Excellent short. John Higgins leads Ricky Walden by 6-3. Great shot. It

is a fantastic break of 90 from John Higgins and he extends is lead, it

is now 7-3 for the Scot. That is fabulous, maybe that blue has given

him a bit of confidence now. Good Snooker from Ricky Walden, but he

leads by 7-5. Well, that is a wonderful shot. Really is a very

good shot. John Higgins extends is leapt to 9-5. That is a good pot.

And he has closed the gap now, still John Higgins who leads. Yes, nicely

played. And Ricky puts his hand out to John, and once again the master

tactician wins this session, and he leads by 10-6. Many people tipped

Mark Allen to go far in this tournament but it is the 24-year-old

who raced to a 7-1 lead. We are going to pick it up in frame 12, it

is Wilson at the table He struck that one nicely, it will

give him a bit of confidence. A pot but not quite hard enough.

That is what happens when you have no table time, things don't go quite

right, it could be that he is itching to play the blue. Trying to

pot the green. Not sure about that one. Don't push

the boat out too much, my friend. Just a little bit of noise coming

from the end of frame on the other table.

The reds are a lot better. It was awkward.

Now getting the green away from the reds at this end of the table makes

this a framing opportunity. Not too worried about getting the black back

onto the spot just yet, play for the pink for a couple of shots, gets rid

of the reds just below the black. A little bit further away from the

pink than I thought he would. That is why he is having to take the

black, to get into a good position. He does like a pot when it does go

on. He is an exceptional potter, a great backswing, such a contrast,

unlike Kyren Wilson who plays with the wrong backswing. There is

nothing wrong with either of them but it is strange to see it on the

same table, both are excellent players, obviously. Mark has had a

bit more success than Wilson, but I think Kyren Wilson will push through

to the top 16 and on from it by the looks of it. He has got all the

tools. The kick there, he was lucky it did

not go too straight. Does not appear to be a difficult

red on the table, the one on the left, with him being left, he will

deal with that nicely. Just the result he was looking for,, 7-0 and

then won five on the trot. Just wonder what is going through

that young man's mind. I think the interval has come at the right time

for Kyren Wilson, should he go on to lose this frame, he will need a few

minutes with his coach to say, you're still 7-5 in front, you would

have taken that at the start of the day.

That puts the frame beyond any doubt.

What a scintillating first four frames, but that kind of

break-building against anyone, Kyren Wilson going back to take the

interval early and Mark Allen has done what he wanted to do, get back

into the game. He will be delighted with 4-0 but still trails by 7-5.

Kyren Wilson won frame 13 with a break of 82 and secured the next bed

to keep the four Franklin and picked up an action frame and with Mark

Allen 849 break. I did not spot anything, Mark Allen

did not feel anything. I would liked to see that again. Let us have a

little look. It did just rock slightly. It rocked slightly.

We will have another look, this is it, Terry. I think it is when he

brought the cue back, it rocked the reds slightly. -- red. Definitely a

foul and he is 40 points in front and what a body blow this would be

if Wilson cleared. After all that good work that he put

in, there is no doubt that the red moved.

I have to be honest, the referee did well to spot it. We had to look

three times in slow mode to see it move and the referee spotted it, I

was critical of some of his decisions before, but that was out

of the top drawer, that decision. You will not get a referee that over

a period of time will not make mistakes.

It is a shame we have had controversy because Mark Allen felt

it was a fair foul and he would have been 9-6 and the win -- the chance

-- but you can sling. to win the session to close at 9-7.

In the pink, thinking, what am I doing here. What a result that is,

goodness me! That will not make Mark Allen feel any better! He is so

close to the black he cannot hit this very hard or else he will miss

the pink. That is what happens, I am afraid.

Not too sure if he can screw that directly to get onto the black, he

might have to come off the cushion which makes it more difficult.

Where is the cue ball going? This is going close if it lands.

There was a very topsy-turvy, Mike Allen made 49 and Kyren Wilson made

30 will stop he pinched the frame and he leads by 10-5. Into the final

frame, Kyren Wilson is at the table, we are down to the colours and he

needs a snooker. He is looking down the line to see

if he can get a chance to make a swerve. Will it go in? Kyren Wilson,

four. He could try that another million times and it would never go

off back to their! That is amazing, isn't it? Amazing the way the last

two frames have gone. It now looks like he is possibly losing them

both. Incredible. It could easily have been 9-7, the clearance, 11-5.

I suppose he could question the pace he played out, the distance with the

cue ball, the way they played piano but to get a double case, it cannot

happen. -- the way he played -- to get a double-kiss.

This has been a remarkable session of snooker, Mark Allen completely

dominated the first four but somehow Kyren Wilson has dug deep and with a

bit of good fortune has won the next four. If he pots the last pink and

black. This is slightly more difficult than he would have wanted.

He does not have to do anything with the cue ball, just make sure he pots

the pink. A straightforward shot from the blue

but he was screen that, he did not have a lot to do. -- screwing. --

screwing back. I do not know whether he can get

through, I do not think he can. It just shows you how important this

frame is, Mark Allen will feel at 10-6 he may have missed the boat at

11-5. He has got to be careful, playing

the cushion, if he gets too far over, it could go in off the pink.

He played it well. Played it very well.

Amazing frames, these last two frames have been.

Foul and diverse, Wilson, six. -- and a miss -- Kyren Wilson. The

swerve will not take, that is what happened in the first attempt. Those

six points were important but he cannot afford to miss it again or he

will miss the black as well. If Kyren Wilson thinks it is

kissable, he will take it on. He does not refuse much, this young

man. He needs to play this with drag and a lot of side spin. Down the

table, possibly. It has been a very interesting match

so far, Kyren Wilson will be the happier of the two, he goes into the

final session leading by 11-5. Well played to Kyren Wilson but that

final frame, that is a sore one from a gallon. So one lucky. It was the

difference between him winning the session which is what he had to do.
