Day 12, Part 4 Snooker: World Championship

Hello, good evening, welcome to the evening session of the 2014 World

Snooker Championship. Judd Trump and evening session of the 2014 World

Neil Robertson battling it out for the final last four place. Let us

bring you up to date with this incredible quarter-final match

between Barry Hawkins and the Welsh incredible quarter-final match

qualifier Dominic Dale, Hauss kips led 11-5 overnight but then he

qualifier Dominic Dale, Hauss kips staged an incredible fight back,

winning six on the bounce to draw level. They shared the

at the table in the early stages. The pot is easy enough. But the

position isn't. He played for that sort of gap that

I would agree. I think the blue, I mean it is tough at the best of

times, but in this situation, you would be putting your eggs, all your

eggs in one basket. Why would you want to do that? But sometimes,

eggs in one basket. Why would you is the way you feel, and

particularly in the modern game now, there is the culture if you get a

chance to try and win the frame. But no, he is playing safe.

His maintain concern was the red, you can see nearer to the right

corner pocket, he stopped getting that. If there is anything straight

forward here, there is a difficult safety. Got that slightly too thick.

He has done that before, he needs to green to help. And not quite. He can

cue past the green, red to the right corner.

May have a chance of the red to the left corner, as well, the way he is

looking. And the red to the left corner,

although, can he cue it properly. That green will make it awkward.

Because he is left handed. Right handed. You think he would be OK,

but, more comfortable cueing, playing this red. But a bit more do

with the cue ball. He got a kiss. But he could have

been on something easier. A good pot. The yellow is available, the

black is available with the rest and Barry Hawkins is one of the better

players on the circuit with the rest.

Amazing what momentum can do. Earlier on you wouldn't have fancied

him to make a 20 break, but at this moment, he seems to have found his

second wind, when he needed it the most.

Good solid pot. And I think he has the red to the left middle. Which

the right of the pink, into the far left corner. He is not perfect, so

Well he looks as though the black spot is held. He won't mind it going

on the blue spot. As long as you have the pink and black in play, and

the red spread is there, he will be thinking this is an opportunity to

win frame and match. But he will take nothing for granted. He didn't

play for the red on the black spot. He is OK, he has a red in the

middle. Dominic Dale is sitting there and he is thinking is he going

to get another chance, he has played wonderful snooker in this session,

he won seven frames on the spin, he has hoed-of-had to it is out the

previous frame and maybe this one. All the effort, he may get nothing

out of this match. So much put into it. So much pressure for both

players. If the pink goes through the middle,

maybe he can get past the pink for the right middle. He didn't play for

this but he will take it. Played it well.

Just not got the angle on the black that would have made the next red a

bit easier. Has he screwed back fine? He is not

going to be hampered by that brown and blue.

He was aware they were there. Well, you said Terry, he is good with the

rest. He wouldn't normally want to use the rest on this type of shot,

but the brown and blue make awkward cueing so rest it is.

Solid shot. Not inch perfect on black but not bad.

That was a good a positional shot as he has played. Really cued that

nicely. Quick glance at the score board. 48 points in front. 83

remaining. Three reds, three colours, he would be in the

semifinal. A bit straighter on this pink would

have been ideal. You can see where he is pointing now, with his cueing,

he want to pot the thing and leave the cue ball about there.

It is a little stun run through. What a turn round, Barry Hawkins has

been sitting in the chair for about three hours, made a lot of mistakes

and alof a sudden he has found something from somewhere, it is

obviously courage, these players don't lose the skill, they sometimes

lose the belief, but... Yes, and Dominic didn't score a

point in the last frame. .ances are he won't score one in this. This

sums snooker up. It is a cruel game. So just this red needed to go 63

points in front, with 59 remaining. Every credit to Barry Hawkins, from

11-5 in front, to go 12-11 behind and then stop. There is the bang on

the table. That is what it means to him. Great performance. I don't

blame him showing him. Great performance. I don't

because there must have been times in this match that he thought he had

thrown it away. Dominic smile, I give you every credit Dominic Dale,

when you were 9-3 behind in that second session last night, a lot of

people would have dropped heads.

It is all over. It has been a tremendous match. Who would have

ever thought we had got to a decider.

Well, the black hasn't gone in. Dominic will give Barry a warm

handshake. What a match. What a come Dominic will give Barry a warm

back from Dominic Dale, he congratulates Barry warmly, Barry is

delighted. More relieved than anything else, and he is through to

the semifinal to meet the defending champion Ronnie O'Sullivan. He beats

Dominic Dale by 13 frames to 12. What a match. Barry, what a dramatic

afternoon, you barely moved from your seat until you absolutely had

to at the end. Dominic played unbelievable, when he left me

chance, they just, everything that could go wrong went wrong to be hop

nest, it wasn't as though I was squandering chance after chance he

played some unbelievable safety and kept me off the table. It gets tough

then, so, to play like I did the last two frames there after what he

did to me is unbelievable. You can see how much it meant at the end,

and I am just chuffed to pieces I held myself together at the end.

Where does this rank in your all time achievement, even though it is

a quarter-final not a final? It has to be up there. One of my best wins

ever, I think, especially when somebody comes back at you like that

and how well he was playing, and to get the result out of that, is, just

delighted. I am lost for words. It is up there with one of my best

performance, especially under pressure and when it goes down to

the one table like that I think I handled it well. 11 five ahead,

there is nowhere for him to go. He has won the match, I can't win the

match, he can only lose it. I have to play out my skin to sort of try

and, you know, mount a come back which I did, played really well, but

in the end those last two frames, he found his A game. I don't think I

potted anything in the last two frames. I didn't really do anything

wrong. He found his A game and he won it, I didn't lose it. What a

brilliant performance but Barry Hawkins showing lots of passion and

motion, he is through to the semifinals and it is a repeat of

last year's final, he will play Ronnie O'Sullivan in the semifinal,

what a match that promises to be. Right, we are now going to urn our

attention to this evening's match. These are live picture, we will go

live to the Crucible. It is Judd Trump taking on Neil Robertson. 9-6

Trump leads and Neil Robertson needs one more century break to become the

first man ever to complete a century of centuries in a single season. So

Robertson miss this red. He was on a break of 52. Perhaps could have

opened a bit earlier. This was the red he was taking on, to try and get

on to the black to win the frame that the visit. But 52 point lead,

strong favourite to take if opener. Judd Trumped has not had a chance in

this frame as yet. Not the best of safeties from Judd.

Neil can cut into the corner. Has to be careful with the white.

He will be tempted at this one. Yes, the problem when you are playing

safety game, Judd Trump, it is not you don't want to leave him in the

middle. He will take it on me what, when he is playing well, he goes for

them and gets a high percentage of them even from distance.

The yellow off the spot is hindering him to go round that so side of the

table. If he wants to move any reds. Let us see what he is doing here?

The yellow is there, look. Just, after his exact path he wanted to

take. Playing round the back of the yellow there, it swerved a bit too

quickly. Is from a red available in the

middle? There may well be. Perhaps he played it off the yellow. He

didn't get it on the first shot he played with that long red. Once

again not enough spin I did think he would get that one. Big target,

green or yellow, it would be difficult to get the pace just

right, but he has done, he has the pace perfectly.

He is bringing reds into play he wouldn't want to at this stage. She

45 points in front. He would like to keep things as tight as possible.

But, he is looking down the line a few time, if he can hit enough of

this red. Got to avoid the black of course, on the bake. He is playing a

swerve there. That was a very clever shot. I

thought he was playing back down to the baulk. : He was trying to push

that red on the side cushion and it didn't get there. Judd, with being

45 points behind, he will be playing off that red to bring it into the

middle of the table. The red next to the pink, amazing enough, that would

cut into the left hand corner. I think he can just about miss the

kiss on the black, in play on the shot. Maybe kneels it subpoena too

thin. It pots without a doubt. Whether he can avoid the kiss is

another question. He did play the shot and got got

close to it. He missed the black. If he had caught that fractionally thin

he would have canoned into the black. He is trying to get down

behind the baulk colours and he is trying to get it thick. He didn't

get the pace on the cue ball I am afraid.

52 points in front. He only needs the red.

Because he is in a tricky situation, I don't know whether he will risk

playing the blue. As you know one of the game's greatest ever potter, is

there a risk in him missing and giving Judd Trump the chance to play

the snooker. Appears not. Brown safe would be a bonus.

for the blue there. That shot. There is an element of risk if you

were to hit the two balls to the left of the black. Touching ball on

the yellow and green, it would have been a difficult snooker to hit. As

it is, he can get A bit reluctant to play them thin.

Got caught a little thick. He tried to stun off the cushions

behind green and yellow. Just one snooker needed from Judd Trump here.

I he played that. You know, he may well have played it. If you look the

table if he potted three reds and three blacks, if Judd hadn't don't

down behind the yellow and green he would have had a perfect snooker.

I think he is taking the pot on. That is confidence for you. He

wouldn't have been quite sure if he missed that, where the reds were

going. Judd Trump decide that is enough.

Has he made his mind up yet. Not quite. He is going to carry on.

This looks like the first snooker. It is amazing he can swerve through

the gap. Another two inches to left he could have done this shot.

Obviously coming off the top cushion there is just about enough room to

go past this red. You would expect him to hit this. Just enough room to

go by it but he has hit it. Now is it possible to get in behind

the black? He has played him behind the pink but didn't play it well.

Don't really expect a match like this, a frame like this, with these

two, because they are both so clinical when they get in the ball,

and turned a blue down, which I think Judd may have conceded then,

and missed a pink in the middle and now he has a fluke snooker, you

never know. It is amazing, the second kiss. It

still had the side on the to swing behind the black. These one cushion

escapes are straightforward. But you expect him to judge this one right.

But he hasn't. But frame looked over on two

occasions, and on the third occasion, it is. A break of 52

earlier in the frame was the catalyst to take this.

What a semifinal we have got, whoever wins this match. Tomorrow is

the day not to miss. But tonight could be a night not to miss as

well. Neil Robertson certainly looks in the mood tonight.

A little bit of sword fighting with the referee.

Neil Robertson won closer to Judd Trump, but still trails 9-7. We are

still waiting for that century break.

due to sure you Ronnie O'Sullivan against Shaun Murphy, but the Rocket

was in no mood to hang around this morning.

That is perfect. He has hit that so well. Excellent. Very difficult.

Great shot. You never know what kind of match you are going to get.

Watch this shot. I don't think there is a player in the game he has not

done that too at some stage. That is a terrific double. Shaun Murphy

comes forward and congratulates Ronnie O'Sullivan. All credit to

Ronnie, when he got his chances, he took them. He is a great potter, he

just missed a few balls and let me in quite easily. I still had to pot

them, but you never know how much is going to turn out.

He looked like a man determined to hang on to his crown. Can anyone

here stop him? We will not know until the semifinals. But Ronnie

O'Sullivan is looking the favourite of the players left in at the

moment. He was favourite at the start and still is.

These two players will not be worrying about that, they have got

enough on their hands. The fact that he played the cut at

the right hand side, the white gauze left against the nap. -- those

left. Decided to take the double on there.

surely. That is what he has played for. Unlucky. Great try. He leaves

himself a ball in the middle pocket. If he had missed the blue,

he would have been on the red. Different styles of play with these

two. Both are very effective, of course.

All of a sudden, the white pulls into the left. Very unlikely, but

only cost him five points. If Judd Trump had got onto a red from that

brown, it would have been more costly.

Judd Trump wasn't jumping out of his seat.

It would not have been a great shot with a free ball. He will be playing

the red that is in play, rather than thin safety shot. He would love to

play it full in the face to push it down near the black.

He may be able to put this one -- pot this one. The pink and black out

of commission. He may try to bring the blue into play. I thought there

might be a gap between that black and red. But the one in the middle

was on. He has played for the loose red. Once again, has not got into

the cue ball. Very well played. A little

unfortunate with the black. He has got the angle they are so he is on

the red. These two players are very

proficient at going into the pack. You need lots of cute power. -- cue

power. He just needs to miss that first red. That is what he has done,

but he did not bark it quickly enough -- arc. Just caught that red

half ball. If he had caught it full ball, they would have spread all

over the place. Crucial after this to try and get a

nice angle. I love watching him play because you

do not know what he is going to do next. You criticise him sometimes

forward to much open play, but it does not bother me. I love watching

him play, I think he is very popular with the people who come to watch

snooker. He is a dedicated professional now, practices very

hard. He needs to catch the red full. Glancing off there. If he is

on it, that is a good shot. Just looking to see if the red above the

pack will pot in the same pocket. That was a very clever shot, played

slow into the pack. He will be pushing the red that is

loose over to the corner pocket if he gets this right. Got an angle on

the pink, I think he can screw into this side of the pack. That was

careless. This 52 point played could disappear

very quickly. The saving grace is the blue on the side cushion. Not

happy once again with the contact. Bouncing all over the place.

Excellent shot. red into play now. The blue is Judd

Trump's only saving ball here. Hasn't quite come high enough for

this red. Nudge the finger towards the centre. But without there being

on the left of the table, it may block the pocket. And it

on the left of the table, it may think. Very tight. End of break. I

didn't think there was any chance he couldn't get those four. The mood he

is in, he might take PLO on -- take the yellow one. He is going to bring

the blue into play, can't blame him for that. Judd Trump will be

breathing a sigh of relief here. for that. Judd Trump will be

looked as if he would clear the reds.

He brought the blue of one cushion and onto another one. It is one good

chance gone for Neil. Judd Trump is looking at this long pot, he finds

it so difficult to turn them down because he pots so many of them. But

it may be a better option to play a good safety here. 31 points in

front. The fact that the pink is touching

ball does not appear to be a problem. Robertson will have no

problem hitting the reds off the side cushion, but can he get them

safe? He does not want to hit the pink too hard and put the two

threads together because that will be an easier target.

And he has put them together. He hopes there is no plant on the.

Amazing. The plant is on. The only problem is because they are dead in

line for the pocket, if he kisses the first red half ball, it will

make it a reverse plant. And he will be playing it hard. He has got to

hit it full ball. The two reds are absolutely

in-line. It is one of those, you will have to play it hard and hope

for the best. Hit it full ball. He's done it, well played. Very well

played. You said, don't put the two reds together and he did put them

together. There we see the plant again. Right

in their centre. The other looked like it was going in. Just 24 points

behind now. That blue is still bear. It is on the wrong side of the table

for Neal Robertson as a left-hander. Once again, didn't quite get the

amount of spin he wanted. Does pot well, doesn't he? He plays the pace

right as well. Will he play to move it or to drop

on the cushion? If you can guarantee getting the

pace right, he will get on the cushion. It gets in the bottom

pockets, the middle pockets. He has played it to bring it into

play. There was so much risk in that. A brave shot and he has got

the reward. Judd Trump led by 50 points in this frame, this one will

hurt. Just the black then. What a steal it

would be for Neil Robertson. He has won the frame from well

behind. 9-8 to Judd Trump. We knew that this was going to be a

pick of the matches. It is a fascinating game snooker, when it

comes to the tactical side of things, Judd Trump did nothing wrong

I trying to snooker his opponent. But he left the plant on. It is a

game of hide side. He had the blue on the side cushion. He could to put

another bowl save on the side cushion. The brown to the side

cushion. Cue ball onto the side cushion which would still have been

a good snooker link ball. Then he has got two bowls on the side

cushion which makes has got two bowls on the side

clearance much more difficult. One fluke shot, one plant and then the

game is alive again. Perhaps that was the wrong shot.

Terry mentioned, don't put the two reds together. Why not play it a

little gentler so the two reds are nowhere near each other? But they

were pushed into a perfect line. This plant would have been reversed.

He hit it full on their head, the only way to make this plant, and the

rest is history. If he gets it right, he gets this frame. This was

the shot for me. He could have dropped on the cushion, brilliant

shot. He had to hit it from behind, hit it perfectly, and the rest was

history. That was an excellent frame of snooker. Both players deserved to

win the frame, in the end, it was Robertson that did.

This looks like being another Crucible classic. First to 13. Only

one frame in it. Just playing the safety by the look

of it. Judd Trump has improved his safety

play over the last few years. Those numbers are pretty high

considering the skills of the long potting of both of them. That is

exceptional friend you think it is a tournament, from the first shot

played in the first round. This safety shot is a little more

dangerous. Perhaps better to take the one nearest the black. That was

the problem, he was always good to push one over the corner.

Playing with backspin. We didn't really get on with it. Leaving Judd

Trump a chance there. They are missable. He did not quite catch it

they cannot. They are so shot. That could be very costly indeed. --

There's a shot! That was much easier shot than the red he played. No

problem with the opening red. But the colours are not nice. This frame

could take some time to work out. Very tense here at the Crucible. Now
