weekend it was time for the clubs chasing the play-off places to get

on their bikes. The teams at the summit of the competition are as

tightly bunched as the riders in the Tour de France, but this is stage 19

of Super League. The Wildcats are on the climb, leads up next for

Wakefield on their unbeaten head coach. -- Leeds Rhinos. The Tigers

are back in the running as Castleford look for back-to-back

wins. They are at Widnes. And Matty Bowen on life with the champions of

Super League. Wakefield's Richard Mavers and Danny

McGuire of Leeds were in opposite corners on Friday night but they've

joined forces to give us every side of every story in the latest round

of matches, and it's been an eventful few days old Kingston

Rovers they parted company with Craig Sander cock on Sunday ahead of

the visit of the super league leaders. Defeat against Huddersfield

last weekend was a third loss in four games for Rovers and left them

three points outside the play-off places with nine games to play. Know

I don't think many people would have predicted that result, but it's a

tough place to play. Chris Chester stepped up and got the response that

everybody would have expected after losing their coach, and when they've

got their tails up, and you're a bit off on the day, especially at home,

and they can post points on the they gave a couple of soft tries away

with the intercepts and loose play and then they got the momentum.

There are a good side when on form. You have had the coaching change

with the assistant taking charge. It seems to galvanise the players.

why when they have become head coach does it make a difference. They have

the input anyway. I think the assistance do have an input, but

deep down they have their own beliefs and I imagine there will be

disagreements with head coaches, and that is the way it should be, but

Chris Chester has stepped up to the plate, a young, enthusiastic coach

and a good result against Saint Helens. I imagine he has a few

things you would like to change, some systems he might not have

agreed with that Sandercock was having. They have some great players

and I'm sure they are looking for a big run at the back end of the

season. St Helens are inexplicable. A wonderful result against Wigan,

then that result against Catalan, and that is what upset Nathan, that

you can have two results like that so close together. A bit

inconsistent at the minute. The Wigan performance was the

performance of the season. They were brilliant that night. Richard was

talking about how it's hard to back up again on the back of such a

massive effort. Hull Kingston Rovers have been a few hours on the bus,

against his former club. Brilliant defence,

you have to say from Gilmour. Enjoying a good spell of pressure,

Leeds. One of the best in the business

on the high ball. First successful kick,

Liam Sutcliffe. How important could

that proved to be? Wakefield look

for the try that may snatch victory, It is bouncing up all over the

place, and into the arms of Maguire! This could win it for Leeds

in dramatic fashion. We are going to have a look to

see if there was a Leeds hand. It was Mathers with the pass, now

did Ryan Hall get a touch on it? Another really important call

for the video referee. I wonder whether Leeds

will feel hard done to. The slightest touch,

if there was one. A fantastic finish, frantic stuff

as Wakefield look for the win. And Mavers will win it

for Wakefield! Leeds wallet right at the death

at Headingley against Catalan, and it looks like Wakefield have

done it here against the rhinos. This will be only Wakefield's third

win on this ground A new lease of life under

James Webster. And Leeds missed

the chance to go top. So who had to pay for dinner when

you went out on Saturday night? There were quite nice to me

on Saturday night. I was expecting the worst,

but the game wasn't mentioned. Four games since James took over,

Salford line-up at Huddersfield. Mason Caton-Brown made

his debut after signing from London, and there was

a first appearance the Kevin Locke. Here comes the man on debut,

Mason Caton-Brown. He will need to play

the ball quickly. They can't fail to score if they

move it out of the right-hand side. If they can get it wide,

they've got to score. An opportunity here for

Huddersfield Giants. They go out to the left with

a real chance. Now, a running chance here for

Mason Caton-Brown. Mason Caton-Brown, what pace,

what desire, what determination. And he has curled round

underneath the posts. A late tackle on Danny Brough left

the Giants in a heap and the referee Robert Hicks with no choice but to

send off the Samoan international. The coach was critical afterwards

of the Red Devils' approach, claiming there were guilty

a deserved victory. Kevin Locke was perfect with

was a late compensation when Luke Robinson's offload through the legs

fell conveniently for Larne Patrick. But it was all about Salford's

new kids on the block. I felt good, so I thought I would

train and try and prepare to play this week, and everyone has made me

and we can't look too far ahead. We know what we need to do to

get into that top eight or top We just need to focus

a lesson they have learned? They were pretty consistent last

at the back end of the season. It wasn't a smooth start for Mattie

Bowen when he joined Wigan He replaced Sam Tomkins and has been

in sparkling form. I always wanted to play in the

Super League. Wigan gave me a chance to come here

and I took it with both hands. The club and history they have got,

what better way to play in Super Whenever you put the jersey

on it is history. I want to play well for the club

and play well for my team-mates. What a run this is going to be

and Mattie Bowen is going to go 75 It is always good to

score tries like that. It was one of those moments I

had to go for the intercept. If it had not come off,

I would have looked silly. The line kept getting further

away as I was running but it is All the way through, Mattie Bowen

will win it for the Warriors. We were trying

for six to eight weeks. Had our first game

against Huddersfield. First few games we were

trying to settle in. I played one game

and then went back to Sydney. But we are starting to gel

a bit more now and starting to learn the Wigan style of play

and playing alongside Matty Smith. It has been slow, but hopefully

it will be getting better. Mattie Bowen,

is he going to the line? I played most of my footy

at one club. But I am enjoying my time here

now and looking forward to it. It has been great

so far. you get asked about Sam Tomkins

and on interviews like this? When he came over here,

it has been great for the club. When I first came here,

I wished him all the best. I was playing

for the Warriors over there. I wanted to come here

and play my own game. Whatever Sam brought to the field,

was something different. Hopefully I can get better

and went more games for Wigan If Wigan want me,

I am happy to stay. As I said,

I am talking and see what we come up The club have been great to me and

helped me out when ever they can. If you can get your family settled

in, it makes my job easier. They are enjoying it and I

this, they put out a full side? They have players who can

do things like that. What I like

about Wigan is the young players Stepping up and not looking out

of place. It is massive for their future

and the club. Shaun Wane has come back

and work is way back into the team. Scoring a hat-trick is not a bad way

to get yourself back into the team. You played

and beat Wigan a couple of weeks Week in and week out,

Wigan are a tough side. No matter what side they put out,

a couple of key players and international players missing, but

some of the young boys are ready and There will be better

for the experience. Putting a full strength side out

against London, they wanted to do a Look at the defence,

they have not given up because they are professionals, but they look

like they don't believe any more? We have a couple of our young lads

down there, Alex Minns and Foster. Very good players

and it will be great for them to get Super League experience but to be

their way for awhile. They have really good firepower

the context of the game. I think young players will always

make mistakes and have poor games, and you have to stick with them,

and he is showing it now. He is probably the quickest

in their team, and for a hooker to He has been one of the best

players in the team this year. He has had a little bit

of time to settle in and work out what type of player he

is, and he looks the prospect. We expect him to be

going to Warrington. He was already really well thought

of when I was at Castleford 2011. He was a young lad then, that

made his debut later that year. You can see

on the semifinal in a month? Psychologically, you play a team

four weeks in advance and win. It was pretty close, and that try

coach will he be? I get on great with Jimmy, and that is how well he

did with the Carnegie boys, as a rugby union coach and having a

fantastic season, but he is a rugby league man, Jimmy. He wanted to get

back in and Bradford is his club. I think he will do a good job there.

He is coming in late, but that will change fortunes there. Anything you

can do about confidence, because they got themselves in the lead.

That's probably not getting into the lead enough and they have had a lot

of stuff going on in the background with the players, and who can blame

them for not performing. He had to massive moments in this game.

months to settle in, and one of the better back rows in the competition.

win for this. Catalan have struggled to win away from home and it has

the form player for Catalan. . Bradford remaining in the bottom

two, so let's get confirmation of the standings in the super league

and Castleford are just two points behind the leaders. There are

Is a smart signing. Player six, seven, and one. Clubs like

Castleford, they can cover lots of different positions. Possibly the

most eye-catching is buying not one, but two halfbacks with Mark Sneed

and Leon Pryce together, how will they work? I think they will work

well. Leon Pryce has been around a long time and is a smart player. He

can use his experience and bring along Mark Sneed who is new to the

game. The press situation is such a demanding club. Big expectations.

There are two halfbacks already there so it will be interesting to

see what happens there. Warrington have bought in Ashton Sims, but they

have tied up Chris Hill on a long-term contract. He is one of

those who goes under the radar a little bit, but a really important

long-term signing, and Ashton Sims as well, I played against him with

the Australian schoolboys and he was as Big than his years now. He is an

awesome beast when he wants to be. He has got brothers like that as

well. He is a big signing for Warrington and with the exciting new

signings scummy and they will be exciting. Another great utility

player who can cover the backline, so a bit of pressure on the lambs.
