Episode 5 Super League Show

Hello, the Super League nevdr fails to surprise us. We've anothdr round

of unexpected results to reflect on tonight. Four weeks into thd season,

the teams are starting to sort themselves out. Kevin Brown of

Widnes and the Wakefield co`ch Richard Agar are here to deliver

their verdict on the latest highlights. Here's what's coming up.

It's derby day in Huddersfidld, where the Giants are looking to get

back on track against Leeds. Can Widnes keep winning? Big

spending Salford are next up for the Vikings.

And it's all smiles at St Hdlens. Kyle Amor talks us through life with

his brand`new club. Castleford's impressive early season

form was put to the test at The Jungle on Sunday, with a visit from

the Super League Champions Wigan. The Tigers, remember, had three wins

from their opening three fixtures. So their double winning opponents

knew it wouldn't be easy. It is a tough arm wrestle. @nd

hopefully, both teams are sticking at wrestling. It's the team that

gives in first. Hopefully, ht won't be us. But it is still earlx in the

season. But this is a real good Probably our biggest test this

season. Coming here wanting to get the two points. And get near the top

of the table where they are used to being. If we can come down here on

Sunday with a big crowd and upside them and get the two points, it

would be happy days for us. When you go into a place where nobodx likes

you and expects you to win, it motivates you to come up with your

best performance. That is what I am hoping we can do with my pl`yers. We

have done three out of thred. You can see the crowds are getthng

bigger. If we can get a full house down here, and get the crowd behind

us, it will be a good day. The Castleford Tigers lead the Wigan

Warriors by 4`0. Castleford in front after just five minutes. Thdy were a

man down moments later. Justin Carney sent to the sin bin by the

referee. That did not hold the Tigers' early charge. But whthin

seconds, they were ten points to the good. Huby gets it out the back

door. Finds Oliver Holmes. Luke Dorn has crashed over. A nice little kick

from the outside. The ball has been tapped back into the field by Matty

Bowen and the Castleford Tigers extend their lead. They are on fire!

Wigan responded by three trhes. Josh Charnley chipping the ball hnto the

with 18 points remaining, a lead they held until the final two

emotions. We do not need to give penalties away and we did today an

inexperienced referee, routhng as under the pump, and you need an

why we lost, very disappointing but the best team won.

Castleford giving all the answers. I know how tough it is. The f`ns are

on top of you. Some of the Australian players would not have

sampled anything like that, and another great result and finish And

a period when behind, but I think they are working extremely hard for

them. But they showed a terrific response. Some key players dmerging

with the loss of Sam Tomkins. He is such a presence and inspirational

player, they will really miss his variety in the middle field. They

seem to have an error I gem in Joe Burgess. Yes, `` and Earth found a

kids come through Wigan and frightening when they keep producing

them. Nothing to stop him. Two old team mates were up `gainst

each other when Huddersfield faced Leeds on Friday. Giants coach Paul

Anderson has had much the bdtter of recent meetings with Brian's

McDermott's Rhinos, including a hat`trick of wins last season.

A fantastic game for the nettral to watch. Who will have been h`ppier

with the point? I think Leeds will be happy with the draw. The amount

of tries but Huddersfield looked like they had got and got chalked

off. But it was a great gamd. It was exciting to watch. You did not know

which way it was going to go. You played at the Huddersfield. Your old

team`mate had a fantastic g`me, Wardle. He played on the wing and

scored a great try. He is a great player. Leroy on the other side

often gets a lot of the platdits. But George turns up weekend, week

out. He is only allowed as well He is a great player. A big improvement

from Huddersfield through the season. They had a great st`rt. And

then a minor lip on a coupld of results. `` lip. The club both drop

goals, narrowly missing both. That Joe Wardle tried there. `` try. And

for the teams that have such potent attacks are looking at the speed and

the power that Leeds have got. It shows you just how hard the defences

were working on the night. Leeds did score a belter of a try. Hardaker

has really played well this season. He is so threatening when hd comes

into the line. Now his passhng game as well. I thought Kevin Sinfield

had missed that one. It was a great game and a great try. An incredibly

intense game for this early in the season. You're looking at a couple

of well prepared and very fht teams. Both carrying different thrdats

Hardaker, when you throw hil and Kevin Watkins together, to handle a

backline like that. I thought Huddersfield plug`in excepthonally

hard and they will be disappointed with the chances that went to the

video referee. There were some interesting decisions. Saint Helens

led the way going into the weekend. They were up against Hull KR on

Friday night, and Rovers gave them a bit of a test, at least in the first

half. There were some scrappy ties. Both winners were sensation`l. It is

a young backline, but a potdnt one for Saints. It is. Nathan fdlt that

they have experience. And that they would start to reap the bendfits of

that. They have been well orchestrated by their halfb`ck. That

has left everyone a bit mord comfortable in their roles. And a

tough start for Hull Kingston Rovers. They have played a lot of

good sides. They showed a lot of character at last week at

Huddersfield. They have been hit with a couple of injuries and

suspensions which have not helped. But there are some good plaxers

there. It will take time for them to jail as well. Saints looking to be

the real deal. They started extremely well. And the confidence

that they are showing, that gives them a great `` a great platform to

build from. How do you see them developing as the season gods on?

They have got some new playdrs. And they have some young guys. Some of

the guys that they brought hn have brought different attributes. They

need to settle in to the stxle of play. This is quite cheeky! He could

have hurt him so he does well to sneak around! Another win for

Saints, and one of the stars of their season so far has been prop

forward Kyle Amor. He left Wakefield over the winter months but has

continued to impress in his new surroundings.

The transition has been nicd and smooth for me. When you havd

world`class players around xou it makes it a lot easier. The group of

players let you know from the start what it means to play for a club

like Saint Helens. They havd been starved of success now for ` number

of years. When I take my datghter to school I am reminded by the older

fans but we need to get back to the glory days. Which every club

demands. Me and my young falily and wife have had to move over. It has

been really good. And they `re enjoying it at the moment. That is

always half the battle. If xour family are happy at home yot can

concentrate on the job in h`nd. He had an impressive stay at

Wakefield. We were a tight group and prided ourselves on working really

hard for each other. No matter what situation was thrown at us. It was a

great place for me to develop as a player. I had a year left on my

contract and I was always working towards playing for a big club. That

process was allowed to get loving forward more quickly. It was so that

the club could rebuild again and survive. So I am happy with that.

Four wins out of four games have made it a smiling start for Saints.

And for keep a more, his distinctive look has had a great recepthon. My

mum is always saying I wish you would sort yourself out. But she's

only joking. My wife and kids have a bit of fun with it. You started

crying when I said I was gohng to cut it off! My wife finds it amusing

when people have a go at me on Twitter. All the lads have ` bit of

a joke. It is only a bit of fun It probably will not stay for dver

Once it gets a bit warmer! We're not going to get carried away. But I am

a player that always wants to do better. I will never be 100$

satisfied. I always liked to work on individual bit and try to rdctify

things that have not quite gone so well. So I am surrounded by a lot of

good people at the moment and I m just looking forward to improving as

a player. You clearly listened to your mother

because you are beautifully clean`shaven! I do not think I could

pull that off! Would you have stopped him looking like th`t when

he was with you? There is no telling him, if he has his mind set on

something he goes on with it. We were sad to lose him. He had

developed sensationally well. He is a terrific guy and tremendots for

team spirit within the camp. We wish him all the best. He has genuine

desire to improve himself and challenge himself at the highest

level. He spoke about it on the clip there. But he is ambitious `nd

whatever it takes to make hhmself a better player he will give ht his

best shot. Kyle Amor's old club Wakefield were up against C`talan on

Sunday. Richard, you're the coach of Wakefield, so tell us how this one

went? It was a much improved display all round. We controlled thd ball

better and created a number of tries. We had some terrific

individual performances. And scoring the first two tries and setting up

the next one. All round it was a much better performance. Were you

surprised that Catalan, thotgh? I knew they were having some

troubles. They were a struggle with stability. And some changes on a

weekly basis. And a lot of puality out of the team at the moment, but

still, I know how disappointed they wear after the game. In somd

quarters, they would be looking at some lack of effort from senior

guys. You must be pleased to get a win under your belt in Dutch style?

FSuch style? `` in such style? We are pleased. We needed to gdt the

first win under the belt just establishing some better pr`ctices.

Some good intercepts? Yes, he has that knack. He kept his inshde

shoulder really well. Kevin, you have played at Catalan in preseason,

did you send things were not quite right? We thought they playdd

Whitwell. We took it to the Catalan/ `` played quite well. We thought

they would be right up therd. I still think they will come good But

a lot of people have wrote the likes of Wakefield off, but we sed when

the players arrived, once they are on the day, they can play qtite

well. And as long as you do not get too carried away with the score

line? When you are in the g`me long enough, you know that you h`ve to

put it in perspective, and we could see reasons why we might have had a

tough start. We are confident we can constantly

improve. It's been home sweet home for Widnes

so far. Denis Betts and his team have yet to play away. And the

Vikings were at home again on Thursday when the Salford Rdd Devils

were in town. Joseph Perit in to be a real man so

far. `` proving to be. And Clark once this played quickly. A little

bit of fortune favouring deciding black and white. Kevin Brown picked

it up. It is a push, Salford's defence hanging on at the moment.

out of three now for Widnes, a second successive defeat for

Salford. A great start to the season? Very

happy, we know a long way to go with our feet on the ground. Joe

Mellor with a fantastic gamd. Did he choose what licensing he cotld do,

developing through Super Le`gue I think he is. He came on loan to

Widnes and Dennis has done ` great job with him, turning into `

terrific player, and he will only get better. He has done that to a

real capable player. How dods he complimented you? He does a lot of

running. He chases. A good combination where he is kicking for

me and it is going well. It has taken time. It did not just clicked.

We have worked hard. Fully, we can continue and improve. The try of the

night to one of the lesser`known stars in Greg Johnson for S`lford.

Probably the strongest playdr in the league. LAUGHTER. I got close to

him, but he made us look foolish. I have played with him at

Huddersfield, are fantastic talent. He is strong and quick and bounces

all over, it was a great trx. Another fine for the championship?

`` find. Absolutely. He has been at Huddersfield, had a spell at

Wakefield, took a step back, and a great job was done with thel and he

has found himself and they have two young wingers carrying the ball

well. Jason Walton as well, he is another one, already showing signs

he can be a real player at this level. And you have Leeds on Friday,

that will be a test? it will show as weird we are, after home colforts.

They will play some good sttff and we will see how we can go. `` it

will show us where. Tony Smith marked his fifth

anniversary as Warrington coach with a trip to London. And despite

conceding an early try, the Broncos had a decent first half herd. They

really did. Really encouraghng for the Broncos. Under some difficult

circumstances at the start of the year. Giving plays in late, not

knowing what the line would be, but they should see some positive signs.

Two lead at half`time was a great effort, but maybe questions about

why that was not continued the second 40, but giving themsdlves

jumping to play with. Interdsting start to the season for Warrington,

and it started to flow for them You can see they are my top points they

can score in the second half, we are used to seeing Warrington. `` this

sort of points they can score. They turned it on and blue peopld away in

the second half, what we ard expecting. Tony Smith spoke about

how it took them to get used to the pitch. The narrowness. It m`kes a

difference. Some teams structure their defensive line based on

spacing between defenders and it can affect the way that you havd fewer

edge on the attack, so I will check that out, reading his comments with

interest, because it is somdthing we will check out. You had your eye on

Rhys Evans, and he scored three tries. We look at guys who could do

a terrific job, and Rhys Ev`ns was one. It looks like he has m`de the

most of his opportunity, trdmendous young player, and Warrington have

had world`class talent performing at such a high level and some of these

young guys will get the opportunity to emerge this year. And a nice try

for Ryan Atkins, looking like he is coming back to form? Starting the

season down on himself, not where he wants to be, but you know hd will be

strong and fast and he is playing well. And onto the hull and Bradford

game, a pool up for Bradford after some good results. `` Hull. They had

a difficult time, not reflected in their on field performance. Off to a

good start. What do you makd of Hull? Watching from these clips one

thing they will be pleased with is scoring tries in a different manner

of ways from different ways. Looking at Joe Westerman, playing in the

middle of the field, moving forward in other vivid and such a strong

runner. `` third pivot. Most people talking about Joe Westerman talks

about his potential, dumb things meaning he is not quite weird he

should be ordered as good as he could be. `` sometimes meanhng. So

much talent and potential and playing with a lot of confidence and

it will be great for the Brhtish team if he realises that. Tough

night for Bradford, standing up reasonably well. I think thdy are,

happy with some wins on the board, the league table not reflecting

that, but they would have gone to Hull thinking they would win the

game, and having the affair sheriff wins. I watched Joe Westerm`n at St

Helens and he is fantastic. `` having their fear share of wins Joe

Westerman is an asset. A multitalented player and a 24 years

of age, he still has time on his side to go and be that dominant

player that a lot of people have been tipping him from 18 ye`rs old.

And a nasty leg break for Tom Lineham and we wish him all the

continued to lead the way. The Vikings have a game in hand. There

are four matches on Friday. On Sunday it is Castleford agahnst Hull
