Hello. There's been lots gohng on off the field in the last sdven

days. It's a relief to have rugby league to talk about tonight.

Bradford Bulls' saga contintes and Super League cuts have rejected the

idea of key signings for now. We're here to guide you through the

events of the week. Here's what s coming up: Top of the shop, Salford

Red Devils and St Helens put their 100% records on the line. Rovers are

looking for their first win, but the Tigers are yet to lose. It's Hull KR

against Castleford. And keeping the wolves from the floor, Mickx Higham

on Warrington. Leading the way in round three was

the Thursday night meeting of the Devils and Saints. Salford `nd St

Helens were both looking for a hat`trick of wins after a hdavenly

start to the season. # You look like an angel

team, but their toughest test so far, St Helens come acalling tonight

much the mascot for Salford is 13`year`old Josh Wilson. His Twitter

Some good, tight passing down the middle here. The heart rippdd out of

that Salford defence by Jon Wilkin. Ryan Giggs is here tonight.

St Helens beginning to thre`ten again.

Turner with a very good pass, with a man meeting him. The quickndss of

mind to put the kick in and Walsh follows up to score. Clinic`l St

Helens stuff. Two tries and already the writing is

on the wall here. St Helens have been impresshve in

the early rounds and continte to look very impressive here so far

tonight. He must be pleased with the way his

charges have started the 2004 campaign.

Walsh with a measured kick `gain. It's causing problems. The referee

is asking the question. Is there a touch from a Salford

hand? Was that under control when he touched it down? Decision thme.

No try. Salford survive and they nedded to

get that decision. What's his support like. He's found

a gap on the left side. Percival putting the toe down. This hs Swift.

Oh, he stepped inside. Perchval still there. In the blink of an eye,

St Helens have gone from ond end to the other. From defence to `ttack. A

try from Percival. It was desperation stuff here from Salford.

Salford all over the place. Noble knows his side have been given their

toughest test so far tonight. Maybe not coming up with the answdrs he

was hoping for. Amor reaches over and touchds down.

They can go the length of the field. They can hit you where it htrts

where they're on your line. St Helens are proving to be a team of

all talents. Great presence there to roll it away. Amor with the finish.

I don't think he's going to get over here. No.

Salford defenders hanging on, just about.

Laffranchi, on the other side. Putting the knife through the heart

of Salford again. It has bedn undoubtedly St Helens night tonight.

They are a team to watch. Percival scores! It's anothdr

sparkler from St Helens. Thdre's plenty of laughter in their play.

They're loving every minute of it. As the hooter sounds, we sed again,

that break. Percival with the coolness to score the try.

It's been a disappointing nhght for Salford.

We was really up for that bdfore the game. In the dressing room ht was

electric. We were just off the pace. We have a lot of improvement we need

to do. The first thing the guys said, don't look at the scoreboard,

that was a tough game. At 12`0 early on, it looked like a good,

comfortable victory. Salford hung. There they made us work really hard

to get the win. When our forwards are saying how tough it was, it s a

good sign for Salford moving forward. As a whole, we're happy

with the start. We know we have a lot of work to do. We need to

improve. Tougher physically than it made the scoreline look? I think it

was. They have big, experienced guys, who've added steel to the

middle and certainly their forward pack were very hard to handle. Hock

is a physical presence. It lade it a tough night for us. We controlled

the game for large parts of it. You can see with Salford they'rd needing

some couldn't nunt, combinations between key players and probably

losing Chase was a big one. We have to be happy with how we plaxed. We

scored some great tries. Possible lit most pleasing thing would be the

nil on the score board against a team studded with as many stars as

they have, it was a pleasing thing to come away with, having not scored

a try. Nathan Brown saying, we're definitely not boring. They aren't

boring to watch. It's good fun. No, they're certainly not boring.

Probably the thing that impressed me mostly about that game is every time

St Helens made a half break, it turned no a full break and people

were flooding through. They finished their opportunities off. Whdn you

have a team that can do that and when they have speed on the edge and

some youngsters on the edge that are very capable of scoring trids, then

they become a difficult teal to play again. I think it's a great result

for St Helens. They were talking about the game, it will be

interesting to see where Salford are, coming up against a very good

team in St Helens. St Helens showed how well they are playing. @mor

joined you over the winter. He's had a real influence, as he's come in?

Yeah, he's been great for us. There's a number of reasons why I

think that. His energy, you know, he really energises the middle. He has

great hands obviously, laying the try on for myself there. I think

he's come on a huge amount `nd having travelled to Leeds and then

to Wakefield and having to play in different environments has resulted

in him becoming a well rounded front roller and obviously pops up for a

try as well. His overall contribution during the gamd was

exceptional. He does the little things very well. Very often he

finds the front, plays the ball quickly for us. He's an effhcient

defender as well. In the modern game, your middle guys don't have to

be just big and aggressive `nd carry well, they need to be defend as

well. Brian Noble saying, there were mistakes, he didn't like thd loss.

If they're going to make those mistakes now, not in round seven,

eight, nine. Yeah, it's going to take them time. They've had a period

of time as a club of getting used to not winning. That's going to take a

cultural change. That doesn't happen over two, three, four weeks. That

happens over two, three, fotr months. He's right in what he's

saying, it is going to take time. The likes of Chase not being on the

field doesn't help. The one side of the game they did look as though

they node a big improvement is the attacking structure. St Heldns

looked comfortably defensivdly. I'm sure Brian is fully aware of that.

They're doing work on the training field. You take Chase out of the

team and it changes it a lot. Leeds were attempting another smash and

grab raid in the south of France. Rhinos travelled in and out of

Perpignon on Friday for thehr match against Catalan. What did you make

of this one? against Catalan. What did you make

of this It shows that The Ldeds are exactly what everybody was talking

about in the off season. They were talking about the quality

they have and the speed thex have on the edges. As the game develops and

we see the tries, they're bding created by their edge attackers

Hall, off`load to Moon and ht's a try in the corner. That was a

repetitive theme, what Leeds are. When they've got attacking threats

like they have on the edge, they're difficult to defend against. You're

Catalan, a few of those trids, you're going to be wincing. I think

they'll be disappointed with how they defended. Leeds challenge to do

so Catalan defence to be good all night and unfortunately Cat`lan

weren't good enough all night. When you have got the likes of Briscoe,

there's always the opportunhties to score tries. One of the exchting

things about Leeds is their ability to move the ball from one shde of

the field to the other quickly and efficiently. If you combine that

with being able to be direct I'm sure Catalan won't be happy with

that defence. But if you can be direct and combine the two dlements

to your game you are always going to be dangerous. And Hall has had a

quiet season relatively? I think we focused quite a lot on people's

try`score scoring contributhon. Ryan Hall is Leeds' go`to man to get them

on the front foot and he's been doing that well. Watkins has

developed into a lovely centre and his understanding of space `nd time

and creating space for Tom Briscoe will be crucial for Leeds this year.

Catalan have got some big injuries. Ian Henderson is out. They look like

they are struggling and it could be a while. It looks like they are

struggling with confidence. You look at a lot of the Leeds tries, they

are sitting back and letting Leeds play. When they've got qualhty like

that they are going to put 40 points on you. That's something th`t

Catalans will need to look `t and regain confidence. But it is

difficult to do when you ard losing your key personnel on the fheld

Leeds and St Helens with three wins out of three but they weren't the

only teams defending perfect records this week.

Hull Kingston Rovers are looking to stop a Tigers treble.

Mickey Higham guides us through his golden moments with Warrington.

And the best moments from the rest of round three as Super League 9

gets into gear. The Bradford bulls have been hit by

a six`point deduction for entering administration. The directors of the

club have walked away from their bid to by it. On Friday crouton joined

Wakefield. There was always things going on but they've got a great

group there. Their togetherness is good. We don't blame him for doing

what he's done. He has had to think about his family. If he's got more

security, good for him. For years now we've been getting to the end of

the month and wondering whether we are going to be paid. I would like

to come to the end of the month and not have to talk about it. We've got

a great group of players thdre as people as well as players. Hf we can

just get a chance tone joy our rugby and play without the other off`field

stresses we might be able to achieve something this year. It is really

tough for the players isn't it, not knowing you are going to get paid is

pretty fundamental in life. Yeah, and you've got to credit thd

Bradford guys with how they are dealing with this situation. The

coach and the players deserve so much credit for the way thex've

started the year under this dark cloud of financial pressure which

has hung over the club for the best part of two or three years. The

financial stress on the club is historical and gone back ye`rs. It's

been acute over the last cotple of seasons. When you are playing

professional rugby league wd are not blessed to be paid as much `s

professional sportsmen that. Security this job offers was maybe

comforting but the Bradford guys haven't had that. To do what they

have done with huge uncertahnties about the future is remarkable. I

can't give them enough credht. It is not what the game needs is ht, this

constant bad news? No, it's not It is disappoint Pentagon. As John

said, the Bradford saga's bden going on for some time. What you've got to

do is give them huge credit their performances over the last couple of

weeks. Two results notice l`st two games. They've got the points

reduction and already they `re on minus 2 and starting to get back to

zero points. They are going to be clinging on to the positives tall

way through. Just to echo John's thoughts there about how pldasing it

is that the players are showing such resolve. Francis has a diffhcult

job, not only to deal with the players as players and trying to get

the best of them on the field but to deal with them as people. They are

having, they are not being paid They don't know whether the money's

coming. You've got the deal with them as people as well. It sounds

ridiculous after three weeks to be talking about a relegation

four`pointer but against London that's what it felt like didn't it

at the weekend? It did, but it is remarkable that the energy that

Bradford has shown in this game it is probably a relief for thdm as

players to get on the field. There's a lot of talk about the problems of

the club. But when they go out there it is a chance for them to show how

good they are and what a good team they are and what energy thdy can

play. Some of them may be thinking about moving to other clubs, so it

is a great opportunity to pdrform at a high level and show the tdams that

they are available. London put up a gutsy performance, their co`ch said?

They are underresourced in terms of players. They had poor prep`ration

to the start of the year. It is going to make it difficult for them.

Although they were competithve in this game you felt like Bradford

were too good and were maybd a bit more clinical than what London were.

Both sides have financial pressures in recent times and both sets of

players are dealing with unhque challenges. One thing I will say,

the new structure in this, the introduction of relegation, made

this game very interesting to watch. It has created a lot of intdrest in

the lesser games. For the stpporters of the game, they were maybd tired

of watching these meaningless fixtures that lead to the play`offs.

Certainly at the start of this year. These games matter and this game

between Bradford and London was a huge fixture in the scheme of the

relegation battle. Worryingly for Bradford it was a small crowd that

turned out. They need this resolve, everybody around the club and the

city need it resolved. You can feel the frustration of everybodx.

There's been so much that's happened at the club over a period of time

now. There's a 5,000`plus at the game. Very frustrating for the fans

that they are showing that now with not turning up to the games. They

need to support from their fans They need them numbers to come

through. Potential buyers w`nts to see people coming through the

turnstiles. Widnes were on the field on Friday. The Giants were looking

to bounce back after throwing away an 18 point lead to drawing with

Hull KR in round 2. Mariano has got the ball. Hd's going

to score a try. We were so disappointed with the things that we

did, we forget that we never lost but it feels like a 20 point loss.

It is not acceptable. It is the last kick out of the ball and he's

absolutely nailed it. You c`n understand why we feel like we lost

the game but we are unbeaten still. We are not going to fall just

because we've drawn in a gale. We are not going to be great every week

but our attitude is to try `nd achieve greatness. Huddersfheld

began in the right frame of mind on Friday night at Widnes. The Giants

took an early lead. The ball came to McGillvy. An interception. 40 metres

to go. No`one is going to c`tch him. 20 metres out and he will c`nter to

the line. The second try for the Huddersfield Giants.

Paul Clough surged over the give the Vikings a 12`10 half time ldad.

A short pass and Crabtree's over! Danny Brough scored two pen`lties on

the night but the one he missed proved crucial in the end as Widnes

finished the stronger. And Widnes will pounce on the ball. Thdy score

under the post. The ball's being pushed back in

field. There's a loose ball there. He's going to have a word whth the

in`goal touch judge. Who knows here, who knows here? This could be a

crucial moment. He's given the try. What can you say? Wow! Wow hndeed

for Widnes. Are they what wd could have had with licensing? I think

they have had some consistency. Kevin Brown's been at the club a

couple of years now. They'vd got Clarke at dummy half and through the

spine of the team they've got some consistency. Off the back of that I

think one of the key assets they had are hard`working forward pack that

outmuscled the Huddersfield pack. That sounds ridiculous when you look

at the size and strength of the Huddersfield pack. I thought that

was one of the biggest problems for the Huddersfield. Maybe the

enthusiasm and intensity of Widnes caught them out at the back end of

the game there, but I think Widnes have done fantastically well. They

are always a challenge to play at home. The games on the I pitch never

follow a normal pattern and that one didn't. Huddersfield, will they be

worried, two games in a row they haven't closed out? I don't think

worried. I think more frustrate wood be the word I would use.

Huddersfield have got very good players. Top class players hn key

positions, so they always are going to be a handful. To get into

positions they've been in the last two weeks and sleet hem slip, this

will he be frustrated. I wotldn t say concerned. It is early hn the

year. We are only on round three and there's lots of time to improve on

the areas you need to improve on. Two wins out of two for Widnes.

Would it be three out of three for Castleford? The Tigers '100$ start

was on the line when the hole team were looking for their first win.

Hull Kingston Rovers showed their fighting spirit last week when they

turned around an 18 point ddficit to draw at Huddersfield. But the

Castleford side have two wins from their opening two games and are

looking good. An opportunity and it's certainly

the case here. The test for this Castleford defence. It is Hodgson

the man at dummy half. James Green picking a path through

the middle of those Castleford defenders to give Rovers thdir

opening try of the night. Keating with the pass and Afternoon

with the finish. `` Green whth the finish.

Owen Owens. Castleford taking it to the other end and taking thd game

back to Hull Kingston Rovers. A sweeping move right across the line.

Finn involved. A good finish in the end from Richard Owen.

It's going to be Owen who comes down with the ball in his hands. He

seemed to snatch it in mid `ir. It's the perfectly`weighted kick from

Liam Finn and it is a second try for Castleford. A clutch of defdnders

didn't put off Richard Owen. He gets his second of the night.

The chip again is a good ond and a score this time from Frankid

Mariano. : This kicking gamd is causing all sorts of problels for

Hull Kingston Rovers. A third try of the night for the Castleford Tigers.

Mariano with the finish. Castleford have proved to bd

clinical when they needed to be There's something not to thd liking

here of Chris Welham. Liam Fin is being targeted here.

What went on here? It has cdrtainly calls aid stir. I hear the words

"chicken wing". Whether there was any serious intent there is open for

debate. He is going to spend ten minutes in the sin`binn.

Liam Finn is dispatched. He's clearly not a happy man. Thd

incident has been put on report Was that nasty? It didn't look too bad.

Welham seemed to throw the head The referee, for the second timd in a

matter of minutes, is having to get involved again here. I don't know

what Welham does here. He sdems to head`butt. The referee clearly saw

it. Right on the stroke of halftime

Omari Caro! A fitting finald to the first half for Rovers. Boy, did they

need it. He's showing himself to be quite a finisher. But Eden very much

the architect, with the run and the pass.

Oliver Holmes! Finally in this second half, the deadlook is broken.

It has been an arm wrestle `t times. Castleford might just have put

themselves in a winning poshtion. Owen for a hat`trick! That will

finish it, absolutely. It is going to be a third successive win for

Castleford Tigers at the st`rt of this new season, and a third try on

the night for Richard Owen. Daryl Powell is looking like a contented

coach, and well he might be. His side have got off to a flyer in

2014. Castleford have had a terrific start

to the season. Yeah, they h`ve. They've started really well. They've

been building over the last couple of years, they lost Chase, but have

replaced him with Liam Finn, who had a really solid game, controlled the

game. From your half back you're looking for a few things, btt one of

the key assets is game management and that's what he brought to the

team. He seems to have stepped up seamlessly from the championship.

Yeah, he has. He has pedigrde behind him. A former junior intern`tional.

Certainly well equipped to organise a team. He's been doing it for

Ireland as well, internationally. He's got all the tools in the box to

lead a Super League team around the field. I thought he did really well.

I thought his composure was great. He took the right decision. This was

a particularly nice play, chose to hit his back row, on the fading line

out to score the try. Yeah, I thought his overall contribttion in

the gamuals really good. He did spend a little spell in the

sin`binn, though. Let's look at the controversial moments from the game.

What did you make of this? Was this a disciplinary matter? I don't think

there's much in that. You c`n see why the referee has reacted. You can

see why he's reacted. We certainly don't want things like the chicken

wing in our game. I'm not stre there's anything in that. I don t

think he'll get suspended for that. He's just pushed him away whth his

head. I don't think there's much in that at all. It's just two little

things that happen in a gamd consistently in a game of rtgby

league. How high can they fhnish this season? It's a very difficult

question. I think for them, it's about building momentum and

confidence. They're three whns from three, which is great. That

continues on from the way they finished the season last ye`r. They

were four from five towards the back end of last season. For thel, they

will be the targeting top ehght That will be a major target for

them. At this stage, they won't think too much ahead of that. Hull

KR, you thought he might kick on from that wonderful comeback against

Huddersfield but they're looking for a first win. Yeah, a lot of teams

are searching for consistency. With Dobson leaving, Coating comhng in,

it will take a few weeks to get that right. We hope it takes a fdw more

weeks before they do nail it. Wigan were back on home ground after their

world club challenge trip to Australia. They were up agahnst

Wakefield on Sunday. Both tdams looking for their first win. What

did you make of this one? Wd'd have took the result before the game We

had some guys that had been on a long flight, five, six days before,

and had a relatively low`kex training week because of thd flight.

To score some of the tries we did and you know, there's some `reas of

the game we need to fix up. We're aware of that. We'll be working

towards that. Certainly, sole of the tries we've scored shows th`t we're

not too far away. O'Laughlin apparently knocked on the g`ffer's

door saying, "I wasn't to play. " ` `` "I want to play." They dhdn't

quite get the result they w`nted. You will have frustration from that.

When you have frustration you want to get back on the field. Thatles

what you want to do as a pl`yer He was desperate to play. Four or five

other key personnel wanted to play. When you have people who want to

play, let them play. Interesting for Wayne to say that Charnley was

dropped. He made a point of saying that. Josh has had a couple of

injuries through the preseason. He's had a World Cup campaign. Is perhaps

he's not found his best forl as yet. Josh is a top`class winger `nd

world`class player. At some stage in the season he's going to hit his

form. The sooner the better for us. What about Wakefield, well beaten

here, Richard Agar said aftdr. Yeah, well beaten. This was too mtch of a

challenge for them defensivdly. They've shown glimpses at the start

of the year of what they're capable of. Agar will be looking for a good,

solid performance in coming weeks. It's a great effort to not only back

up theful offing, what they've done, but the tough game, what thdy've

played and to come back and produce a good performance like this. For a

young guy to show athletic `bility like this, first, great poshtional

play by the back three. Ball to Burgess. Joe started the se`son on a

high note. To show this turn of speed and ability and agility just

shows what a good prospect he is. He has a long way to go. There are

areas of his game he needs to improve, but he works extrelely

hard. If you have the ability to score tries, you are have a good

chance of a good career. Yot know as a young stir at Wigan, you will get

a chance if you show what you can do. It's the philosophy at the club.

There's a lot of work done `t Wigan developing players and developing

home`grown players. If you're spending a lot of money on that and

timened effort on the youngsters, you've got to put them In It To Win

It the first team when they're ready. That's what `` you h`ve to

put them in the team when they're ready. A lot of clubs are producing

their own young guys. Well, it's not been a great start to the sdason for

Warrington, who lost their opening two Super League fixtures. There

wasn't too much panic just xet. Their experienced hooker Micky

Higham has already seen signs of improvement.

Two tough games, but that's how you want it. Unfortunately we dhdn't

come up to the standard, we can set ourselves. Disappointing, wd were

out muscled a bit, out kickdd, out enthused. There were real

improvement in The Leeds gale. It's all about improvement and

improvement in players and stuff, the results will take care of

themselves. There was massive improvement. There's still ` way to

go, but I don't think there are excuses. We have lost some tall

warts. So `` stall warts. Tony felt the time was right for some of them

to move on and some of the xounger lads, they have a lot of experience

as well. Tony is a shrewd coach He knows what he's doing. He gdts the

best out of us. At the moment he's challenging us to be better. I'm

sure we will be. Higham was Warrington's Plaxer of

the Year in 2013. The former St Helens hooker clocked up a century

of career tries. COMMENTATOR: It is going to be a big

moment for Higham, his 100th try. The latter stage of my caredr, but

I'm still learning, especially now them guys have gone, it's good for

me to take on a bit more seniority, and something I need in my game a

bit of leadership. If you'rd feeling fit and playing well, the age is not

a issue. It's not Tuesday, Thursday, night, mud baths and ten cigarettes.

You train, look after yoursdlves, ice chambers and recovering. I look

after myself pretty well. I'm feeling fit. The last coupld of

years I've been happy with ly form. I always want to better mysdlf and

keep going. Hopefully, if I can kick on from last year, then who knows wh

can happen. Just try my best and give the team a lift. Highal is the

only player at Warrington to have enjoyed Grand Final success. 12

years ago he was an Old Trafford winner with St Helens. I got a taste

for it in 2002, for me personally, it's too long between trove quiz.

I've had a taste of glory. Ht's memories that live with you forever.

It don't seem that long ago, that trophy was lifted. That's how time

goes quick. You have to Cherish every moment. It's three massive

clubs and I don't want to clock up too many miles on the car. This is

the longest I've been at a club Warrington, this is my sixth season.

It's made it feel like home. When you feel at home and you're enjoying

the environment, you tend to play better rugby. That's probably what's

been shown the last couple of seasons. Hopefully it will continue.

He's a bit like a fine wine, improving with age. He is, xeah

Micky has been great. He's taken on the leadership role at the club

When Michael Monahan has not been in the hooking position, Micky has done

really well. Player of the Xear last year. Looking for their first win of

the season, they were up ag`inst Hull FC on Sunday and good to see

Ratchford and Myler combining for the first try. Yeah, they'rd two

very good, young players who have a fair bit of experience in them as

well. It takes something whdn somebody like Lee Briers retires, it

takes a time to fill the gap. Already they're starting to show

combinations. They've not hht the form they will want to hit. But

defensively they're strong. If you are, you'll be disappointed to

concede from there. If you're defensively strong you're going to

pick up results. At this early stage of the season, I'm sure thex'll be

happy with the way they're defending. Ing to see signs of

enough combinations? Yeah, ht will take a bit of time. Young gty it's,

who have probably had not a lot of pressure on them in terms of

organising and kicking and these facets of the game, when yot're a

half back, are hugely important They have O'Brien there who is a

natural kicker of the ball. He will do a lot of that for them. There's

no panic at Warrington. You look at their team and you just, it oozes

quality and no doubt, it will continue to improve as the season

goes. We will forget about the first two rounds of the year in two or

three weeks, it's all gone. They'll be onwards and upwards. For Hull,

really disappointed with a poor first half but a good second half.

That's been the story of thd season so far, they've put together

patches. Lee is a perfectionist and he wants everything to be spot on.

Slightly disappointed with that already they're showing signs that

they are going to be a forcd through thethe season. Teams have won and

seven teams have lost. Let's see how the results have left the t`ble

Marwin n Koukash failed to bring that through. Should we havd marquee

players? Do we want to keep our star players in the game? The answer has

to be yes. There's increasing pressure from Rugby Union for our

star names to leave. In terls of commercial buying power, those

games, huge terms. So we nedd to look at ways of keeping our stars in

the game. Ultimately, in a period of pin stability financially for the

clubs, the stability of the clubs and the game needs to be put first.

A minimum spend on the salary cap, minimum guaranteed spend by each

club would be a more sensible way to do this, when the TV distribution

goes to each club and covers the salary cap. I think ideas lhke this

really, it's kind of after the horse has bolted. We're looking at ways to

keep our star players in thd game, when we've lost Burgess and

Tompkins, star players. It ` club has stability and they have `` if a

club has stability and they are getting numbers through the game, if
