World Club Series Special Super League Show

He has got the Premiership. Leeds take a hold and Leeds win the

treble. Hello and welcome to Headingley. We

will be crowning the world club champions. It the treble winning

Leeds Rhino sense the North Queensland Cowboys. We have got two

men who know these teams very well indeed. This man with was the

Cowboys for four seasons and Jamie Peacock is a Leeds Rhinos legend.

How many times have you been asked if you have brought you boots. I

would have liked to have been out there. I felt like part of the team.

It is not to be. Leeds, they have a strong team out tonight. This is the

one when we won the Grand Final, I thought I wish this could have been

the week after, it is not to be. I was looking to lucky to bow out in

the way I did. You were twitching, you want to be out there. I would

love to. Like yaim Egyptian, it's a massive game. Huge game. A lot of

good friends still there, you know, what I mean, I have had a great time

at the Cowboy, and you know hopefully they do well tonight. You

caught up with them earlier in the week. What is the mood like, how

seriously are they taking it? Real serious. I talked to the players,

this is one trophy, the Cowboys have never had a chance to compete for,

and they want to make a good fist of it and play well. With the injury,

you have got, Jordan Lilley and Liam Sutcliffe up against Johnathan

Thurston, what will that be like for them. I don't think they will worry

about it. They will worry about themselves and what they can

deliver. It's the forward area they may have the edge on Leeds. Thurston

is unbelievable. Jordan an Liam will thrive. What is Johnathan Thurston

like as a character, to play alongside and be round? He is

unbelievable to play along side. Any break, any kind of half breaks he is

the first one there that is backing up, on the other side of the coin,

he is first one there in defence as well. His tenacity and willingness

to win. That is what makes him the player he is. Leeds are dog, do they

to win. That is what makes him the go into a bubble, I have heard talk

to win. That is what makes him the about the bubble. You have to focus

on what you can do and ignore what everyone is saying, that is the

thing that it will be like, it is about what they can control and what

players through injury at the start of this campaign, including the

influential skipper Danny McGuire, so a lot of responsibility on young

shoulders in the halves in Liam Sutcliffe and Jordan Lilley.

And this Cowboys 17 is exactly the same 17 that won them the Grand

Final last year it includes arguably the best player in the world, in

scrum-half Johnathan Thurston. Justin O'Neill has played against

Leeds before and they were both winners. Richard Silverwood is our

referee for the evening. So far down under has got one over

on the Northern Hemisphere, Leeds tonight go in search, not just of a

world crown for themselves, but a restoration of pride for Super

League as well. Over the half way line, penalty for

Leeds. It was away then. Michael Morgan it is the stand-off

that too much time in the ruck gives Leeds great field position coming

in. So great attacking opportunity for

Leeds here. And a first drive in from Mitch Garbutt, who is fresh

from the bench. Burrow waits Delaney, Delaney is going to use

it for four great points for his Leeds team.

19-year-old Jordan Lilley. This will be his first Leeds goal,

if he puts it over. Big responsibility on young

shoulders. But Lilley to give his side the lead, and he has put it

It is a great try from the team. Testing this Leeds line, Thurston

Moon. He finds O'Neill who is looking for a pass, looking for a

pass, Moon doesn't come up with the goods which gives O'Neill the

opportunity to dive in for another North Queensland try. Coote with the

as though we had a real contest on our hands, we did, with 40 minutes

it look easy, but that was some first half. Yes, we turned over the

ball a few too many times and they made us play, so the second half we

controlled the ball a bit better and the tries came off the back of our

defence. You have won so many things over the years, but what does it

mean to be world club champions? Everything. It is a great reward for

the boys after last year, and that is what you get from winning the

Premiership, we come to play the best in the northern hemisphere, and

the rhinos have been at the top four an number of years. We had a packed

house, it is an experienced the boys will have for a long time. And what

have you made of the three games, is the Gulf as big as it looks on paper

after these three matches? Is always a tough match, and it is my first

time here in a cap Cowboys jersey. The scoreline doesn't reflect how

hard the game was. That was the proverbial game of two halves,

wasn't it? Yes, disappointing. That second half when the opposite to

what we had planned. We were happy and confident coming back out, but

that first ten minutes of the second are probably lost us the game. Is

that the difference, you think those errors that you just can't make

against both sides? You can't make those errors against any sides. We

are better than that, and they are a quality side, and if you make

errors, you get penalised. You looked like you were everywhere and

trying to do everything. We were never not going to dig in, but we

just weren't good enough today. You have so many injuries. How do you

pick yourselves up from this? You have to travel the Catalan next

week. It is Monday tomorrow, so it is the start of a new week, and that

is how we will treat it. We will deal with this quickly, get on with

it and move on. They stuck it to rise early, but I thought we

controlled the game really well in the second half. What did you say at

half-time? I thought we could have just carried the ball a little

stronger, and we certainly did that from the second half from the

opening whistle. And what does it mean to you all to win this title?

We won our first Premiership last year, and to get a chance to do that

tonight, you have to work really hard. The boys are really aware of

the opportunity they have earned for themselves, and they didn't want to

waste it. We are really happy about it. Congratulations to the North

Queensland Cowboys, they are the world club champions, and in the

end, it was fairly straightforward for them, wasn't it? I think it was

a good first half, but the class and power of the Australian side was

just too much in the end. The first half was a real arm Wessel, wasn't

it? It really was, I think they should have gone in 6-4 at

half-time. It probably killed a little bit, but full credit to the

Cowboys, they deserved it with a standout players for you? Michael

Morgan, Matthew Scott, the guys coming off the bench, Scott Bolton,

Ben Hannant, they all set up their role there. Hugely disappointed if

leads the way it happened in the second half. How will they pick

themselves up from that? They will take some positives out of what they

did in the first half, and that first 40 minutes, if they can build

on that against Catalans, that's all they can do. What did you make of

Rob Burrow? He really stepped up into the captain's role. They have

lost leadership, but he was dangerous going for the quick

play-the-ball is. And the North Queensland, it means a huge amount,

Johnathan Thurston was really proud to lift this title. It puts another

trophy to his legacy, he is such a great player, but they really wanted

to win this over here, I was talking to Paul before, and he really wanted

this trophy, to take it home, and they came here and did their job.

This was the third match in the World Cup series -- the world club

series. We had other games with Wigan and said Helen is, and this is

what happened. Yet again, no Grand Final in 2015

for them. Terrific strength, terrific power, to rhetoric skill,

pretty dismal evening for Wigan. It is not been a wood good weekend

for Super League. No, we have shown the difference in class. In real

terms, talent goes where money is, and it is so much bigger than the

Super League. When you see a Super League side Players Championship

side, it is not really positive for the game at the moment. You have

played in both. Is the Gulf as big as it has looked in the last couple

of days? I don't think it is. It is a tough competition over here, but

the other teams all weekend have taken their chances, any errors or

anything like that, they just pounced. So I hope people don't look

at the scorelines of think, we should abolish this, no. To help

grow the domestic game, we need this competition, so hopefully they don't

do anything. What do you think Super League need to do, or do we need to

forget this, because this is one competition, the NRL is different?

It is down to the ministry. I think we have got a really good tough,

tight competition the Mound, but if you want to increase the salary cap

so that you can compete with the NRL, you will have two or three

teams winning everything in being way better than everybody else.

this theory should stay. But we need a Super League team to win a weak

least one of the games, we have a two years of this. We need a Super

League team to play well this year, to get to the Grand Final, Tobia

Arlt there and have a go at this competition next year, so talking to

a lot of guys around, they really want to crack at the Australian guys

next year. Do you think we do need to make changes to our competition

to somehow increase the intensity so that we can do 80 minutes? We can't

afford the cap to go up any more as it is, so I think we have a

competition that is good, we have a competition that is tight, there is

a chance of everybody beating of a body, and that is what we want.

People who pay to watch a team want to see their team have a chance of

getting in the top four or the top eight. If you take the salary cap

out, that goes, and I don't think that is right. Away from the World

Cup series, we also had a couple of Super League matches this weekend.

The early leaders with his work at Salford. Salford carried on where

they left off, the Vikings victory over Leeds last weekend soon

forgotten as Justin Carney strolled in with his first for the club. A

couple of quick steps saw Robert Louis danced to the middle. A

terrific skill to set up Mark Flanagan, and the former Saint just

had the legs to outpace Flanagan, and the former Saint just

Marsh. Widnes just couldn't get a foothold. Salford dominating through

Dobson's kick creating a third try. Greg Johnson have the pace. And it

looked to be plain sailing for The Red Devils, more poor defence,

Dobson involved again, and it was all too easy for Josh Griffin. But

from nowhere, the Vikings, who won their opening matches, gave

themselves a lifeline, with two quick tries just before half-time.

Rhys Hanbury had the strength to touch down. And then quick hands so

Kevin Brown send Aussie recruit Chris Huston powering over to give

Widnes a glimmer. And from 22-0 down, it got better

for the Vikings ten minutes into the second half. A Salford error, some

superb handling, the pace of handbrake, and it all added up to
