You are nervous at every single race, it's whether you make the

:00:33.:00:37.

switch to becoming champion in the arena. He's got that on the last

:00:38.:00:45.

stroke, the world champion is Adam Peaty. This is utterly brilliant,

:00:46.:00:50.

absolutely fantastic, Adam Peaty takes Olympic gold by an absolute

:00:51.:00:55.

street. A wonderful world record, or might goodness. I have achieved my

:00:56.:01:03.

lifetime goal but I want more. It's going to be a tough road, to keep

:01:04.:01:09.

those medals coming in. Pushing harder and sweating more, there is

:01:10.:01:12.

going to be a lot more pain but I think it's achievable. That is one

:01:13.:01:17.

of my goals, to leave a good legacy back home.

:01:18.:01:23.

That is the man you will see in action first denied here in

:01:24.:01:29.

Budapest, fasten your seat belts because you could be in store for

:01:30.:01:35.

something very special. Adam is the world and Olympic champion,

:01:36.:01:38.

world-record holder and after his semifinals yesterday ahead of his

:01:39.:01:44.

final tonight he seemed confident. Tonights, enjoyed the crowd, enjoy

:01:45.:01:49.

what I'm doing, it's a bit weird now, two years ago I would have been

:01:50.:01:53.

shaking in my boots in this arena but I have matured after Rio and

:01:54.:01:59.

learned so much, this is my home. I love racing year. Tomorrow if the

:02:00.:02:04.

crowd get behind me maybe we can get that special time. That confidence

:02:05.:02:11.

is completely justified because it isn't even about the competition,

:02:12.:02:16.

it's about the time. It is him against the clock tonight. He knows,

:02:17.:02:22.

unless something, he falls off the block something and I know you want!

:02:23.:02:26.

But he knows he has it in the bag, he has the gold medal and he is so

:02:27.:02:29.

competitive that he will want to break his own world record. To him

:02:30.:02:33.

it's just his personal best that he wants to break. In the semifinals we

:02:34.:02:38.

saw there was not even anybody close to him. No, it's going to be him out

:02:39.:02:44.

on his own at the front trying to break the world record, I don't

:02:45.:02:47.

think he will do it tonight but the bottom line is the world record is

:02:48.:02:51.

his best time and every time he stands on the block, all of us from

:02:52.:02:54.

the age of ten until you retire you can go faster. I think at the moment

:02:55.:03:03.

back to form, only just off his best time and look truly good in the

:03:04.:03:11.

semifinal. Could Ross be on the scrap for third? I think so, I think

:03:12.:03:21.

the American, he will probably take a head start because he has an

:03:22.:03:28.

amazing start, but he will become second, and Ross will come third. I

:03:29.:03:34.

think Ross is in a shout for third. For some people you could take some

:03:35.:03:39.

of Adam's confidence as arrogance, it's a fine line but not with Adam

:03:40.:03:43.

Peaty because he's confident but he's also very humble and talks

:03:44.:03:48.

about leaving a legacy. He is an endearing character away from the

:03:49.:03:53.

pool. Such a great role model, what's he's done for the sport is

:03:54.:03:59.

huge. I think he has converted those who don't like swimming into liking

:04:00.:04:05.

swimming just by watching him race. He is the showman, he loves it. And

:04:06.:04:12.

tonight Cameron Van der Burgh is not in it so it will be an interesting

:04:13.:04:18.

race. The big cheer for the world-record holder, the world

:04:19.:04:23.

champion and Olympic champion. Let's hand you to the commentators.

:04:24.:04:29.

COMMENTATOR: Adam Peaty in Len four, the European champion, world

:04:30.:04:42.

champion, world-record holder, surrounded by Americans, Ross

:04:43.:04:50.

Murdoch of Great Britain in lane one. This will be interesting,

:04:51.:04:58.

interesting tactics, how does he approach it? The only way Adam Peaty

:04:59.:05:04.

knows how, he's going to take it to them, go out hard on the first 50

:05:05.:05:09.

and try to bring it back but there is two races here, it's Adam Peaty

:05:10.:05:15.

versus the 57 Bali and the rest of the guys fighting for the minor

:05:16.:05:16.

medals. -- the 57 barrier. Good clean start, decent start from

:05:17.:05:35.

Adam Peaty, the defending world champion. He set the world-record

:05:36.:05:49.

26.6 nine. The race has gone already, look at Adam Peaty, already

:05:50.:05:57.

a class above and he's out 26.5, just off the individual world-record

:05:58.:06:03.

but under the 100 metre. But he's not lost Cordes at this stage, it

:06:04.:06:06.

could be about winning the gold and the world-record. He's starting to

:06:07.:06:13.

power, look at him go away from the rest of, this is the greatest field

:06:14.:06:18.

in the world, clear water between Adam Peaty and the rest of the

:06:19.:06:23.

world, the world-record 57.1 three. Just outside but the margin of

:06:24.:06:32.

victory was phenomenal. Adam Peaty is destroying the best in the world,

:06:33.:06:41.

obliterated them. To win a 100 metre breaststroke by well over a second,

:06:42.:06:45.

we have not heard about until he did at last year at the Olympics and

:06:46.:06:48.

he's broken the championship record again. This guy already owns the top

:06:49.:06:56.

ten times in the 100 metre breaststroke ever done and he's gone

:06:57.:07:05.

57.4 again, different class. He was totally focused going into the race,

:07:06.:07:08.

had a little bit taken note of him on the start but once he got off he

:07:09.:07:15.

got on top of the guys. The first 50 as well, almost broke the

:07:16.:07:19.

world-record for the 50 metres on his way out of the 100. Is there

:07:20.:07:24.

nothing this guy can do? He is a beast. Bit of a dodgy finish, don't

:07:25.:07:28.

think you'll be too happy with that but there is room for him to

:07:29.:07:34.

improve. You can tell him! The second fastest 100 metre

:07:35.:07:39.

breaststroke in history and Adam Peaty setting a new championship

:07:40.:07:44.

record to win gold for Great Britain. What a fabulous swim it

:07:45.:07:50.

was. Maybe a bit too quick then the first 50? I thought he was starting

:07:51.:07:54.

to snatch when he came out of the turn but the strongest part of his

:07:55.:08:01.

race has been 60-100 metres. He looks like a wrestler, so athletic.

:08:02.:08:06.

It's one of the most athletic events you can do. He is on a different

:08:07.:08:09.

planet. Look at those guns. We talked about him chasing his own

:08:10.:08:47.

world record, just outside it, it's almost like we are a bit

:08:48.:08:52.

disappointed. Which is crazy because he did amazing! It is a shame for

:08:53.:08:57.

Ross to finish eighth as well. He wanted to break the 59 barrier but

:08:58.:09:04.

he will be back later on. The 200 is his event. Adam was on his own, I

:09:05.:09:08.

almost want someone to challenge him. Would you agree with the

:09:09.:09:13.

commentators about his start, maybe could do with a bit of work and

:09:14.:09:17.

maybe a dodgy finish for him? Bearing in mind he is still the

:09:18.:09:23.

champion, but are a lot of things to work on? Of course any swimmer would

:09:24.:09:30.

tell you that, even when you break records you get out and think you

:09:31.:09:35.

can go faster. Little things you can improve on. The start has been the

:09:36.:09:38.

weakest part of his race then he goes past people and keeps going.

:09:39.:09:45.

Let's hear from Adam Peaty with Sharon. Congratulations, you just

:09:46.:09:50.

asked me what time you went out in, 26.5 which is very quick. We have

:09:51.:09:57.

done a lot of speed work, a couple of months after Rio, I thought it

:09:58.:10:00.

would be hard to get back but I am happy to come here and attack my

:10:01.:10:07.

title. Year after year. I was a bit longer to the wall but I am happy.

:10:08.:10:14.

Was at the pace you planned to go out or did the excitement get to

:10:15.:10:20.

you? I felt like a little boy. But world records are world records for

:10:21.:10:26.

a reason. The performance at the Olympics was completely different to

:10:27.:10:30.

that one. I was on target for it but just missed out, but we'll see what

:10:31.:10:37.

get tomorrow. You have the top ten fastest times in the world in the

:10:38.:10:41.

100 metres breaststroke which is insane. You're an amazing role

:10:42.:10:46.

model, are you aware that pressure? Not really but I got a massive cheer

:10:47.:10:50.

when I came out and that means something. Most of this crowded

:10:51.:10:56.

Hungarians would means I have got a lot of support. I'm trying to give

:10:57.:11:00.

it back home, get the young ones racing and teach them to have no

:11:01.:11:05.

fear. You are our British Lion, your tattoo is very important, tell us

:11:06.:11:11.

about it? I wanted something to be proud of after Rio, to remember how

:11:12.:11:15.

I got there, I came from the bottom and got all the way to the top with

:11:16.:11:19.

hard work and dedication and the unique relationship between myself

:11:20.:11:23.

and Mell, if you are a kid watching this now, you can be at the Olympic

:11:24.:11:27.

in four years, eight years' time, don't let anything stop you.

:11:28.:11:36.

The language he uses is so brilliant, for the fans and

:11:37.:11:44.

superstars coming through, attacking his title, dedication and

:11:45.:11:48.

commitment, he is exciting all around. And that is something he and

:11:49.:11:53.

Mell both work on, they are a great partnership together and I don't

:11:54.:11:55.

think he would have achieved it without Mell, such a brilliant team.

:11:56.:12:01.

From a British superstar to a Swedish one. Let's go through the

:12:02.:12:05.

women's 100 metre fly final. COMMENTATOR: In the final of the

:12:06.:12:22.

women's 100 metre butterfly and the defending champion is on fire

:12:23.:12:33.

already. We saw Sjostrom last night lead of the Swedish relay and it was

:12:34.:12:39.

something to behold. It was breathtaking, what we saw was this

:12:40.:12:43.

young lady going faster than mark Spitz did in his Olympics, she is

:12:44.:12:50.

swimming as fast as the men have in previous Olympics, it's insane. She

:12:51.:12:53.

could well transfer that 100 metre freestyle 's speed into this, will

:12:54.:13:02.

she break the world record? We are about to find out. The Olympics of

:13:03.:13:06.

mass silver medallist in two. We were talking to one of her

:13:07.:13:23.

coaches earlier and it doesn't necessarily mean you are going so

:13:24.:13:27.

fast that it converts into butterfly but the first 25 metres of this

:13:28.:13:33.

final of the women's 100 metres has been very good for Sjostrom. She is

:13:34.:13:38.

so strong, the strength and power is great and her timing is first class

:13:39.:13:44.

as well. She has the experience, she's been winning medals at world

:13:45.:13:48.

level since she was 15, three tenths of a second under. She does not slow

:13:49.:13:58.

down, I think this could be a world-record right here. Two in two

:13:59.:14:04.

days for Sjostrom. It could be but one line-up has not been dropped

:14:05.:14:10.

yet, but is now, when so fast in that first 50, the world-record...

:14:11.:14:20.

Just outside the world-record. But it is gold again, successfully

:14:21.:14:26.

defending the championship she won two years ago, Sjostrom gets the

:14:27.:14:30.

gold medal. Great silver medal for Australia. And bronze to the USA. I

:14:31.:14:39.

cannot believe Australia have got silver, she is a 200 freestyle by

:14:40.:14:46.

rights but she's been dropping time all year but let's take a moment on

:14:47.:14:51.

Sjostrom. The finish was poor, she could have had the world-record

:14:52.:14:56.

without the finish, I think a coach will be kicking herself, you have to

:14:57.:15:01.

get the skills right. But like Adam Peaty she's so far ahead of the rest

:15:02.:15:05.

of the world, it has to be nice to turn up and now you will get the

:15:06.:15:11.

gold medal and go again. Look at the power on her shoulders. Does not

:15:12.:15:16.

just power it, she's got great technique as well. First-class

:15:17.:15:19.

technician and if you have that in swimming it really is a strong

:15:20.:15:23.

advantage over the rest of the field. Look at this finish, a bit

:15:24.:15:29.

dirty. She is smiling, world champion, I think that is she was

:15:30.:15:34.

going for, she went out very quickly, broke the world-record in

:15:35.:15:39.

the 100 metres freestyle. Destroyed at last night, 51.71. Goodness

:15:40.:15:47.

gracious me. She is now a world champion again on the 100 metres

:15:48.:15:55.

fly. Sjostrom is a confident swimmer and with the first two days a

:15:56.:16:00.

world-record in the 100 metres free and now the championship title in

:16:01.:16:04.

the 100 metres fly, and there she is with the silver medallist. From Rio

:16:05.:16:15.

in the 100 fly. Coming fourth in that race. By quite a way. The

:16:16.:16:21.

margin of victory, almost three quarters of a stroke.

:16:22.:16:27.

The breathing, there is loads of stuff she could do better. It is

:16:28.:16:35.

almost as if you're going to write what not to do for the group, she

:16:36.:16:37.

has done a lot of them there. Another gold for Sarah Sjostrom of

:16:38.:16:47.

Sweden. Just outside her world record. But she takes the gold.

:16:48.:16:53.

A Championship record and Commonwealth record in there. From

:16:54.:17:06.

Emma? Exactly. Sarah was in great form in the relay, she got the world

:17:07.:17:10.

record. A different stroke. If you come out and you are in good form,

:17:11.:17:13.

how much confidence does it give you for the rest of the events? You know

:17:14.:17:19.

you are on form. When you come to a competition, through the air you go

:17:20.:17:22.

through low points in hard training, then you come in and you have the

:17:23.:17:25.

question in your head, can I do it again, will I be on form? Will I be

:17:26.:17:33.

on form at 6.10 on the evening. But she doesn't have a low point, she is

:17:34.:17:38.

great all year. We have talked about the Changing of the Guard, Michael

:17:39.:17:41.

Phelps is gone. A real opportunity for some girl power to display

:17:42.:17:45.

itself. We got that, you have got people like Sarah, you have Saudi

:17:46.:17:56.

people that are cleaning up. We knew that Sarah was going to win. It was

:17:57.:17:59.

whether she was going to get the world record. She has the top ten

:18:00.:18:05.

times in history, like Adam has. That is her fourth world title in

:18:06.:18:08.

that event. There are so many amazing results coming from Sarah.

:18:09.:18:12.

The next event is the semifinals of the 100 metre backstroke. Normally

:18:13.:18:17.

we would see Chris Walker in this, we thought he was going to do it,

:18:18.:18:22.

but he isn't. I don't know, he's got the relays and the mixed medley

:18:23.:18:30.

coming up. On paper, he would have the third fastest time in the world

:18:31.:18:35.

this year. He had a long year last year, like everybody else. I don't

:18:36.:18:40.

know. He is here. Is he sick? Bill Furniss said that he had a cold.

:18:41.:18:46.

Obviously he's wanting to rest. He was on the entry list, but not the

:18:47.:18:49.

start list. We have been told he has had a cold. You're going to rest him

:18:50.:18:51.

for the relays. Is that a red flag? I have a chest

:18:52.:18:59.

infection before Beijing and came out with two gold medals! It's one

:19:00.:19:04.

of these weird situations. You train all year, the major meeting comes

:19:05.:19:09.

up, it's the high point. However you are, especially with a cold... But

:19:10.:19:14.

you do need to rest, the relay have a massive opportunity to get the

:19:15.:19:19.

huddle. He has to arrested he is ill. We might see later in the week.

:19:20.:19:23.

Let's see what happens in the 100 metre breaststroke.

:19:24.:19:28.

A fascinating first semifinal. This is the backstroke. You have the

:19:29.:19:39.

Olympic champion from 2012 in London, Ryan Murphy, the Rio Olympic

:19:40.:19:40.

champion, in five. So, two Olympic champions in four

:19:41.:19:50.

and five. Matt Grevers, delighted to see him back in the mix. But Ryan

:19:51.:19:54.

Murphy, an interesting year he has had? Last year, he was a lecturer in

:19:55.:20:01.

Rio. He blasted off to a world record in the medley. -- he was

:20:02.:20:06.

electric. It often happens when you win the gold medals, there are other

:20:07.:20:10.

things to do. He's going to have to watch out for this fellow, Matt

:20:11.:20:14.

Grevers, six foot six, a beast. The poor guy missed out and didn't

:20:15.:20:18.

qualify for America as the reigning Olympic champion for Rio and he had

:20:19.:20:22.

to sit at home and watch them do their stuff. I think that has really

:20:23.:20:25.

motivated him. He really does look ready to go. These Olympic

:20:26.:20:35.

champions, past and present, the Americans in the middle, that is

:20:36.:20:38.

where the battle is gone to be. Various Grevers, went to the

:20:39.:20:40.

University of Arizona. And there is the current Olympic champion, Ryan

:20:41.:20:45.

Murphy. He had a very good American college season. He won the

:20:46.:20:52.

Championship, and that is not easy to do. It is a really quick heat.

:20:53.:21:00.

That's true, but the thing is, you can spend half your time on the

:21:01.:21:03.

water, you are half submarine. There is only a little bit of swimming on

:21:04.:21:07.

the top. This is where the real action is. Long-haul swimming. Lane

:21:08.:21:18.

seven, his foot rest, they have little footrests that they can

:21:19.:21:20.

dangle off the box. His has gone badly wrong. I would imagine there

:21:21.:21:27.

is going to be a little bit of a pause. You can see the guy in the

:21:28.:21:33.

white hat. He has just pulled his footrest and it has unravelled. Do

:21:34.:21:41.

you think there is an opportunity for the Pole to play silly games and

:21:42.:21:51.

put them off? Well, the only problem is that his nerves are going to be

:21:52.:21:55.

going 100 miles an hour. The technical guy looking at this, he

:21:56.:21:59.

has taken the footrest away. He has walked quite slowly across the pool.

:22:00.:22:07.

He is getting a spare one and is now walking quite slowly... You can't

:22:08.:22:10.

quite see him, the white shirt on the left. You can't quite see him.

:22:11.:22:14.

Walking quite nice and slowly back. The fastest men in the backstroke in

:22:15.:22:21.

the world are in the pool waiting. Come on, mate! It's like he's gone

:22:22.:22:24.

for the paper on Sunday morning! Come on, fella. How are your nerves

:22:25.:22:32.

in Lane seven, Polewka, is he happy that he is making everybody wait?

:22:33.:22:40.

So, the first semifinal of the 100 metres backstroke. Some drama in

:22:41.:22:41.

Lane seven. Very quick reaction. The current

:22:42.:22:58.

Olympic champion, Murphy, in Lane five. There is nobody better in the

:22:59.:23:01.

world than the Americans, showing how it should be done. What they

:23:02.:23:05.

want to be doing in the first 50 is building speed. On the second 50,

:23:06.:23:09.

that is where they have to maintain it. Ryan Murphy has had a shocking

:23:10.:23:15.

season all year. But the champion is showing his medal. He is leading at

:23:16.:23:21.

the half way stage. This could be where Matt Grevers tries to get over

:23:22.:23:25.

the top of Murphy. Murphy looks a little bit low in the water. He is

:23:26.:23:29.

working well. Spinning a little better. Grevers is starting to come

:23:30.:23:40.

back. Very even. Two one hundredths of a second splitting them. They are

:23:41.:23:47.

the only two swimmers underneath 53 seconds. Actually, winning it by

:23:48.:23:52.

nearly three quarters of a second. Not as fast as I expected. Certainly

:23:53.:23:59.

the third, fourth, fifth, sixth positions, pretty slow. I don't

:24:00.:24:04.

think that is going to scare the people going in the second heat,

:24:05.:24:12.

particularly Xu. But the Americans have more in the tank. They have the

:24:13.:24:15.

experience of being Olympic champions. I think the Chinese are

:24:16.:24:22.

going to be all over it. The second semifinal, watching that first one,

:24:23.:24:26.

you've got to think you got a cracking chance of making the final.

:24:27.:24:30.

It is all on times. Yesterday, we saw six from one of the semifinals

:24:31.:24:35.

may get and only two from the other. Two Olympic champions representing

:24:36.:24:38.

the USA. Murphy wins the first semifinal of the men's 100 metres

:24:39.:24:44.

backstroke. Just behind him, Grevers. The rest of them, quite a

:24:45.:24:46.

long way behind. The second semifinal coming up. If

:24:47.:24:55.

you are Mitch Larkin, are you looking at it closely or just

:24:56.:24:59.

thinking about your own race? Personally, I don't know, I would.

:25:00.:25:04.

As those guys have just said, that one was a little bit slower than

:25:05.:25:07.

expected. You kind of know what Reading room you have got, where you

:25:08.:25:11.

have to come and how much pressure you have to put yourself.

:25:12.:25:16.

Beforehand, before you come out to poolside, there is a TV. You are not

:25:17.:25:22.

watching EastEnders! You use to talk about not wanting to look at what is

:25:23.:25:27.

going on? I just used to talk to people. Then you come out here,

:25:28.:25:33.

where you get nervous, I got chatty. If I chatted to people and they have

:25:34.:25:35.

their head down, they didn't like it. So I would go, what is happening

:25:36.:25:41.

with the weather in Hungary right now? Not that casual, obviously.

:25:42.:25:45.

They would watch the heat before, and it's not very fast. Senedd Mitch

:25:46.:25:52.

Larkin would have been pleased, it wasn't that quick. And Xu from

:25:53.:26:01.

China, the fastest time this year, he will be watching as well. Stop

:26:02.:26:04.

it, you, Miss chief! Mitch Larkin, the defending world

:26:05.:26:21.

champion goes in lane six. Xu of China just missed the world record

:26:22.:26:26.

by 100th of a second. Xu China, we watched his heat this

:26:27.:26:45.

morning. If you wanted to watch a perfect backstroke, this guy looks

:26:46.:26:53.

wonderful. He has excellent rotation in the water. Any kid that want to

:26:54.:26:59.

see a great backstroke, this fellow can really teach you. He has great

:27:00.:27:02.

rotation, gives great catch under the water. It's very different from

:27:03.:27:05.

the Americans we have seen. The Americans are flatter in the water.

:27:06.:27:09.

They really powered their way around the pool. I love watching these

:27:10.:27:13.

guys. And Irie, next to him, they have the most beautiful strokes. It

:27:14.:27:19.

may look like it has finesse, but they are absolutely so efficient in

:27:20.:27:24.

the water. Earlier this year, in April, he was only just outside of

:27:25.:27:29.

Ryan Murphy's world records. I think the world record is under threat. It

:27:30.:27:34.

feels like it is moving on again. Watch out for the world record in

:27:35.:27:38.

the semifinal, they are often broken in the semifinals when the pressure

:27:39.:27:43.

is a little bit less. This semifinal of the backstroke, the first one was

:27:44.:27:49.

not particularly fast. All of these guys have to believe they can make

:27:50.:27:56.

the final. Larkin insects, for Australia. -- in lane six. Xu of

:27:57.:28:09.

China in four, Irie of Japan in three. What a fantastic start by

:28:10.:28:15.

Katrina. Stop the race now, he has won by a mile. Absolutely fantastic.

:28:16.:28:20.

He might not end up winning by that margin, but he is putting out a

:28:21.:28:25.

clear statement of intent. 51.85 is the world record and he looks to be

:28:26.:28:28.

on it at the moment. He is under it by a tenth of a second. He needs a

:28:29.:28:36.

good wall work. It is so beautiful. Still head position, great rotation

:28:37.:28:40.

around his body. This is the most efficient backstroke you will ever

:28:41.:28:44.

see. Absolutely beautiful. The nest of the field may be coming back at

:28:45.:28:48.

him. Doesn't look like he is working as hard over the water, but he is so

:28:49.:29:00.

efficient. The world record is 58 -- 51.85. Larkin is only forth but he

:29:01.:29:04.

will make it through to the final, the first semifinal was not

:29:05.:29:09.

particularly quick. Well, there is Tarasevich. He thinks he has made

:29:10.:29:13.

the final, and I think he has. What a beautiful stroke. The attack down

:29:14.:29:19.

the first 50, I wonder if he is practising for the final. I think

:29:20.:29:22.

you have got that absolutely right. He has one of the best starts we

:29:23.:29:25.

have seen on the backstroke all week. I think he went to 60 metres,

:29:26.:29:31.

he got to the wall and did a fantastic turn. He then started to

:29:32.:29:36.

shut it down. He allowed the rest of the field to come back to him. Why

:29:37.:29:40.

would he show his hand tonight? He can get out there tomorrow night,

:29:41.:29:44.

I'm very confident he can win the gold medal. The question is, will he

:29:45.:29:50.

break the world record? It is a beautiful stroke, isn't it? Xu of

:29:51.:29:56.

China, winning the second semifinal. Irie was second. Tarasevich was

:29:57.:30:02.

third. Larkin down in fourth, a little bit of a surprise for me. I

:30:03.:30:10.

learned's Shane Ryan -- Ireland's Shane Ryan may be a little bit

:30:11.:30:17.

unlucky. A little slower than expected, but Xu was the fastest. He

:30:18.:30:22.

is going to have two Americans alongside him. What a final that is

:30:23.:30:24.

going to be tomorrow night. Had Chris Walker-Hebborn been in

:30:25.:30:37.

that how would he had feared? -- I would he have got on? He has always

:30:38.:30:42.

pulled out of the bag for the relay, I would love to see him get back to

:30:43.:30:48.

his best, he just needs a bit more confidence, to believe in himself

:30:49.:30:53.

and I think, I think he is more than capable of getting into that final.

:30:54.:30:59.

2014 he won the Commonwealth Games and Europeans back to back, he was

:31:00.:31:04.

on form and improving. But you have to be at your best at the right time

:31:05.:31:09.

and he just having an off year. Does that make you excited or nervous for

:31:10.:31:14.

the relay? Very excited because I think it will be between us the

:31:15.:31:18.

Americans and the Chinese and the Americans are not looking quite. --

:31:19.:31:27.

not looking quick. Siobhan-Marie O'Connor has pulled out to

:31:28.:31:30.

concentrate on the 200 metres IAM. COMMENTATOR: This is going to be a

:31:31.:31:58.

quick semifinal. Five of the fastest eight in the world this year in this

:31:59.:32:03.

semifinal. Efimova is number one so far. Meli is third. Tactics for

:32:04.:32:18.

Efimova, she swims in a very strange way. She's been a world champion

:32:19.:32:27.

over 200 metres, the world-record holder, we know she's got a strong

:32:28.:32:33.

back end, lots of stamina but to me she might as well start in the

:32:34.:32:42.

water, is absolutely atrocious at diving and I cannot believe her

:32:43.:32:47.

coach has not sorted that out. In her heat this morning she was last

:32:48.:32:51.

at the 50 but then came through like a freight train. This is almost

:32:52.:33:05.

speed versus stamina. It's going to be a very interesting final tomorrow

:33:06.:33:10.

night. USA versus Russia, some mean word said between them at the

:33:11.:33:17.

Olympic Games in Rio. Efimova in four, back after two drugs bans.

:33:18.:33:30.

The defending world champion Efimova of Russia in lane four. How much has

:33:31.:33:39.

she lost the race in that pink hat? Almost half a metre down, I cannot

:33:40.:33:45.

believe they don't work on it. It's so long and efficient, this is where

:33:46.:33:51.

Efimova starts to get into the race. Skimming over the water. It is

:33:52.:33:55.

Meili, the Olympic bronze medallist who is taking it out but just watch

:33:56.:34:00.

Efimova turn on the afterburners and really start to bring it home. This

:34:01.:34:06.

is the real key to her race. Efimova has been out to Arizona to work on

:34:07.:34:15.

catapult starting. Now she's starting to wind it up, brilliant

:34:16.:34:20.

200 metres breast wrote as well as the 100, Efimova in the pink, this

:34:21.:34:27.

is pretty frightening for the rest of the world, let's keep an eye on

:34:28.:34:36.

the world-record. One 100th of a second outside the world-record and

:34:37.:34:40.

she turned half a second behind it. Goodness gracious me. What a

:34:41.:34:49.

marvellous second 50 metres. She is going out 30.6, it's not fast at all

:34:50.:34:54.

when you are talking about threatening the world-record but

:34:55.:35:00.

she's coming home ends 33 seconds. That's just an of in women's

:35:01.:35:07.

swimming. Exceedingly fast. Not only is she powerful she is graceful, she

:35:08.:35:13.

has got great technique. She is like a dolphin. It is amazing, the pink

:35:14.:35:21.

suit in the centre, watching her 200 will be completely different, the

:35:22.:35:26.

longest, most efficient stroke you can imagine. But look at that. I

:35:27.:35:34.

tell you what, if I was Lily King I would be quaking in my boots because

:35:35.:35:42.

that is exceedingly fast. One 100th of a second outside the

:35:43.:35:44.

world-record, did not expect that. One of the more controversial stars

:35:45.:36:07.

of the sport, missing out on the world-record by one 100th of a

:36:08.:36:11.

second, interesting to see you guys reaction after she has been swimming

:36:12.:36:15.

because she has failed drugs test in the past, when she does something

:36:16.:36:22.

like that... I am glad she did not break it! Let's move on, semifinal

:36:23.:36:25.

number two. We kind of claim route Adam Peaty has just done his thing,

:36:26.:36:41.

will she adopt some of that winning mentality? I think so, she sees him

:36:42.:36:48.

on form and extremely confident and that can be infectious, being around

:36:49.:36:54.

somebody like that. If you hang around the best in the world, I am

:36:55.:36:58.

not saying she is the best in the world yet but it does rub off a

:36:59.:36:59.

little bit. See Vasey looking to get herself a place

:37:00.:37:12.

in the final. Over to our commentators.

:37:13.:37:23.

The Lithuanian champion, trained down in Plymouth for a long time,

:37:24.:37:34.

she has actually gone back to the Winnie to train, she looks in great

:37:35.:37:46.

shape. -- back to Lithuania. She has to get faster through the rounds.

:37:47.:37:51.

There is the Olympic champion King, I wonder if she had been watching

:37:52.:37:55.

that TV in the ready room, what is she thinking to herself? If I saw

:37:56.:38:05.

people going really really strongly you know you have to pull it out of

:38:06.:38:07.

the bag. King actually beat Efimova by over

:38:08.:38:26.

half a second in the Olympic final. See Lavezzi of Great Britain in

:38:27.:38:34.

seven. -- Vasey of Great Britain in seven. She is a massive talent, in

:38:35.:38:41.

the semifinal of the World Championships and has a chance of

:38:42.:38:44.

making the final in her debut appearance.

:38:45.:39:00.

Second semifinal, women's 100 metre breaststroke, Olympic champion from

:39:01.:39:10.

2016 King in lane for, Olympic champion 2012 Meiluttyte in lane

:39:11.:39:22.

five. Very nearly saw a world record in the first semifinal. 64.3 six.

:39:23.:39:31.

The world-record is held by Meilutyte, 64 .35, don't think they

:39:32.:39:37.

will go that quick but we thought that in the first semifinal. Lily

:39:38.:39:47.

King has never been shy of getting paw criticising Efimova. She is

:39:48.:39:59.

under world-record time, but Meilutyte says no, trying to get

:40:00.:40:03.

right back on the shoulders of King, what a race this is. It's all me a

:40:04.:40:09.

semifinal, in theory all you have to do is make the final and it's a

:40:10.:40:13.

great head-to-head, and keep an eye out on Vasey in lane seven, going

:40:14.:40:18.

very well indeed, if she can get the touch that would be great, just off

:40:19.:40:20.

world-record place Vasey 66.8 and I think she might

:40:21.:40:38.

make the final, we will have to check but it looks very good indeed,

:40:39.:40:44.

great swimming. Cannot ask any more than that from Vasey, we will have

:40:45.:40:48.

to wait until the clock revolves to see if she's in but a word on King,

:40:49.:40:53.

they are putting the world-record under threat and this is the best of

:40:54.:40:56.

the e-mails are breaststroke swimming we have seen for years.

:40:57.:41:05.

What a race we've got in store tomorrow night. Very quick indeed,

:41:06.:41:12.

the turning from Meilutyte was excellent. Lily King as expected,

:41:13.:41:25.

the Olympic champion from Rio, a little bit nonplussed, just misses

:41:26.:41:30.

the world-record and makes the semifinal second fastest. Did Vasey

:41:31.:41:39.

make the final? It's going to be tight but I think she might well

:41:40.:41:41.

have done. She has done, excellent! Sarah Vasey has made the final and

:41:42.:42:05.

you cannot ask any more, her first World Championships, we can hear

:42:06.:42:10.

from her now with Sharon. Many congratulations, you must be

:42:11.:42:15.

pleased. Over the moon, just off my best time and I am pleased to make

:42:16.:42:20.

the final. You must be inspired when you see Adam swimming well before

:42:21.:42:26.

you? Absolutely, the atmosphere is amazing, I was getting so nervous

:42:27.:42:31.

but it's so motivating as well. You have been swimming international for

:42:32.:42:34.

a while but not that this sort of level, it's a great opportunity to

:42:35.:42:40.

make your mark. Absolutely, I just said I would take the trend as it

:42:41.:42:45.

comes and enjoy it, I was happy to make this MA and going into it I had

:42:46.:42:48.

nothing to lose so I went for it and I'm glad I did. We'll see you

:42:49.:42:56.

tomorrow then. Thank you very much! Not just making your mark, we were

:42:57.:43:00.

talking yesterday about how it's important for all the swimmers to

:43:01.:43:04.

learn the process, get comfortable and eradicate the nerves she talked

:43:05.:43:10.

about. It's a stepping stone before the Olympics in Tokyo and what a

:43:11.:43:14.

great debut! What a great debut and what a great night as she can watch

:43:15.:43:19.

her team-mate Adam Peaty collect his medal, the medal ceremony of the

:43:20.:43:21.

men's 100 metre breaststroke. COMMENTATOR: What a fantastic couple

:43:22.:43:34.

of years he has had, Adam Peaty of Great Britain absolutely destroyed

:43:35.:43:43.

the best breaststroke is in the world, 2014, 2015, 2016, just

:43:44.:43:51.

winning the World Championship title again. He does not like the word

:43:52.:43:57.

defend. He talks about attacking all the time and that's the mentality he

:43:58.:44:06.

and his coach Nell Marshall seemed to have. The guide is not lose, he

:44:07.:44:11.

does not know how to lose. It's been three years since he lost an

:44:12.:44:18.

individual race. What a great guy to have in your team.

:44:19.:44:27.

The smile on the face of the Russian picking up the bronze medal quite

:44:28.:44:32.

clear because he qualified eighth fastest for the final. Brilliant

:44:33.:44:35.

swimming from him. The civil the American went very quick then

:44:36.:44:48.

the first 50 and I think he paid a little bit for that speed. 58.7, he

:44:49.:44:57.

went 50.6 in the semi. It was all about Adam Peaty. The margin of

:44:58.:45:05.

victory, Clearwater on a sprint, how can that happen? To win the race by

:45:06.:45:14.

almost 1.4 seconds is unheard of but he's doing it over and over again

:45:15.:45:18.

and it's hard to believe he is threatening 56 seconds, the rest of

:45:19.:45:21.

the world cannot even get under 58.5. He now has the top ten times

:45:22.:45:30.

in history in the men's 100 metre breaststroke, once again the world

:45:31.:45:38.

champion. A new championship record, 57.47, the second fastest time in

:45:39.:45:44.

history, only beaten by the time he got the world-record and the gold

:45:45.:45:48.

medal in Rio last year. World champion 2017 Adam Peaty of Great

:45:49.:45:53.

Britain. Phenomenal. Very proud people in the crowd as

:45:54.:46:05.

well. He said there would be no defence,

:46:06.:46:55.

it would only the attack. Great Britain's Adam Peaty wins gold again

:46:56.:47:01.

in the hundred metre breaststroke at the World Championships. Olympic

:47:02.:47:07.

champion, European champion, Commonwealth champion. Brilliant

:47:08.:47:07.

swimming. What can Ben do to make us feel

:47:08.:47:25.

proud? He goes in the 50 metre fly final. And James Guy is on course to

:47:26.:47:34.

defend his title in the semifinals. She is an Olympic silver medallist,

:47:35.:47:38.

tonight we will see Siobhan-Marie O'Connor battle the huge home

:47:39.:47:46.

favourite in the 200 IM. We have seen one Briton on the podium

:47:47.:47:51.

already, and there are more chances for medals including this young man,

:47:52.:47:52.

Mr Ben Proud. I worked four years to get a

:47:53.:48:01.

fraction of a second off my time. In terms of confidence, it's been a

:48:02.:48:05.

massive change. Thinking back to Barcelona, it seems like a different

:48:06.:48:09.

world. I feel so much better going into Budapest knowing that I've got

:48:10.:48:12.

so much experience under my belt. I feel good, and I feel like the last

:48:13.:48:16.

four years have been the perfect setup. Realistically, there are

:48:17.:48:24.

probably eight guys that can do a time that will win the World

:48:25.:48:27.

Championships. The only thing I can do is try to get that time, and

:48:28.:48:31.

control myself in the final. If I can do that, the medals will come.

:48:32.:48:36.

After his semifinal, he was very honest, he said there are things

:48:37.:48:39.

that I could have done better. That seemed to give him a lot of

:48:40.:48:42.

confidence. He was sure he could correct those. What does he need to

:48:43.:48:46.

do to get himself on the podium, other than swim fastest? Get

:48:47.:48:51.

everything right. Over such a short distance, short space of time, you

:48:52.:48:54.

have to get every element as right as it can be. You notice in the

:48:55.:49:00.

semifinals that he had a good chunk taken of him at the start. I know

:49:01.:49:06.

who was slightly disappointed with the start. On the finish, he needs

:49:07.:49:12.

to nail the finish as well. The start of the semifinal, we didn't

:49:13.:49:17.

see all of it. He was in lane five, Dressel was in lane four. It was

:49:18.:49:24.

just the transition from the block, the spring you get, entering in the

:49:25.:49:27.

mostly my position possible and then they do about nine kicks below the

:49:28.:49:33.

surface. Lets give him the credit he deserves, Dressel must be shaken by

:49:34.:49:38.

Ben. In the training pool he has been trying to distract him? I was

:49:39.:49:45.

talking to his coach James Gibson. Apparently Dressel came up and was

:49:46.:49:49.

looking for Ben for 15 minutes and came up and said, have you seen

:49:50.:49:54.

John? A random thing to ask. He was obviously trying to wind him up and

:49:55.:49:58.

let him know he was there. I think he is still looking for John! I

:49:59.:50:04.

think John is probably looking for the archive. The last person to win

:50:05.:50:10.

in this event was you. We wanted to play at and embarrass you, but we

:50:11.:50:14.

can't find it, it is so far down in a basement! It would be in black and

:50:15.:50:18.

white! Lets see what Ben Proud can do.

:50:19.:50:30.

Olympic champion Joseph Schooling in lane 2. Ben Proud of Great Britain

:50:31.:50:39.

in sixth. Dressel of the USA is the big favourite for me. He goes in

:50:40.:50:47.

four. The lane assignments in the final of the 50 metres butterfly,

:50:48.:50:52.

very interesting indeed. Schooling in two, Dressel in four, Ben Proud

:50:53.:51:00.

in six. Early and 50 metres butterfly swimmers and also very

:51:01.:51:04.

good in the 100s. But they are really sprint specialists between

:51:05.:51:13.

them. Very tough to call. But the start of Dressel is absolutely

:51:14.:51:16.

phenomenal. The best starter in the world. He will be leading, at 50

:51:17.:51:25.

litres. -- at 15 metres. But there will be some guys that are quicker.

:51:26.:51:29.

I think it includes Ben Proud. Can he get out in the first 15 or 20

:51:30.:51:34.

metres and be up with these guys? We know he's going to be strong at the

:51:35.:51:40.

end of the race. He is actually the fastest 50 metre freestyle. We know

:51:41.:51:45.

he has it in his locker. The fastest human being in water in the world

:51:46.:51:48.

this year, Ben Proud of Great Britain. That is the 50 freestyle.

:51:49.:51:52.

This is the 50 metres butterfly final. Schooling in two, talk about

:51:53.:52:02.

breaking Michael Phelps 100 record, that would be interesting.

:52:03.:52:07.

Ben Proud, three from the bottom. He does not breed down the 50 metres

:52:08.:52:14.

butterfly. A decent start. A very good start for Ben Proud. Dressel in

:52:15.:52:19.

the centre of the USA, also going well between them is Govorov from

:52:20.:52:23.

Ukraine. Ben Proud in about first position, but it is very tight. Can

:52:24.:52:28.

he get the touch? Has he got the finish? I think he has! He has won

:52:29.:52:35.

the World Championships 50 metres butterfly! Ben Proud is world

:52:36.:52:41.

champion on the 50 fly! Proud winning gold, he did not breed once.

:52:42.:52:46.

He had a fabulous start. He wound it up. He did not breathe, he hit the

:52:47.:52:50.

finish perfectly. He is the world champion. Two world champions in

:52:51.:52:56.

about 30 minutes. I never thought Ben Proud would be able to battle it

:52:57.:53:01.

out. He has delivered when it counts. Nicholas Santos has been

:53:02.:53:06.

faster this year, James Gibson, the coach, going absolutely crazy behind

:53:07.:53:10.

us. Congratulations to him. What did it for him was the start. He was up

:53:11.:53:16.

and at them. We said, if he is there at 20 metres, he is one of the

:53:17.:53:21.

fastest swimmers. He had the twitch. Govorov, the specialist, next to

:53:22.:53:26.

him, could not haul him in. This was the vital bit. It is all about

:53:27.:53:30.

measuring your finish. Look at that. He gets fingertips to the wall

:53:31.:53:35.

first. Guess what? Your reward is a World Championship gold medal. Well

:53:36.:53:40.

done, Ben Proud. Isn't it great? You are never out of breath. He won by a

:53:41.:53:45.

mile, four one hundredths of a second. Ben Proud, world champion on

:53:46.:53:50.

the 50 metres butterfly. Absolutely brilliant.

:53:51.:53:55.

Huge congratulations to Ben Proud. Market getting a bit emotional. How

:53:56.:54:05.

proud I do? Sorry to use that word, proud, how proud you to see that, as

:54:06.:54:11.

a character he is a great young man? When he got into the lane he didn't

:54:12.:54:15.

really know what to do. He's not got arrogance. He has said in some of

:54:16.:54:20.

his interviews that there wasn't that belief. He started believing,

:54:21.:54:24.

as much as three years ago, when he burst onto the scene. Really, I he

:54:25.:54:30.

has grown in confidence. James Gibson is looking after him at the

:54:31.:54:32.

moment. We have seen his celebrations. He was way more

:54:33.:54:38.

ecstatic than Ben. But he is such a lovely lad, very humble. Let's hear

:54:39.:54:41.

from Ben, with Sharon now. I couldn't be more pleased for you.

:54:42.:54:49.

You said if you got the start right, it is your race and you were

:54:50.:54:54.

absolutely on the ball? I don't really know what to say! I'm on the

:54:55.:54:59.

verge of tears. It has been a dream since I was six years old. It's hard

:55:00.:55:05.

to put into words. What was going on in the Green room before? There was

:55:06.:55:11.

a lot of needle, eyeing each other up, or you are keeping the towel

:55:12.:55:15.

over your head and keeping your eye on your own It's so funny in there.

:55:16.:55:21.

Everybody is really friendly. Yesterday I was stressed out. I have

:55:22.:55:29.

managed to be more calm, listening to music. I wasn't thinking about

:55:30.:55:33.

the race at all. I thought about winning, it has been my mind since

:55:34.:55:39.

last night. I just went in and thought, maybe a medal would be

:55:40.:55:46.

nice. You never quite know what is going to happen when you change over

:55:47.:55:49.

teen, the go to a new coach and country. It worked well for you?

:55:50.:55:56.

Yes, the work that James has done this year, after the four years I

:55:57.:56:01.

had with John, really come together. James has really helped. I'm not the

:56:02.:56:09.

most confident guy, or I haven't been in the past. Just learning how

:56:10.:56:12.

to put the race together, switching off my mind before going into the

:56:13.:56:19.

race. As soon as I got to the block, it was just me and my race, and I

:56:20.:56:27.

did it. And we get to watch the Union Jack going up for the second

:56:28.:56:32.

time. Congratulations, I am really pleased for you.

:56:33.:56:35.

Huge congratulations, world champion Ben Proud. He certainly sacrificed a

:56:36.:56:40.

lot, moved around the globe, currently in Turkey. What does the

:56:41.:56:45.

future hold for this baby faced assassin? When he gets everything

:56:46.:56:52.

right, he is one of the best in the world. He is the best in the world!

:56:53.:56:58.

But his fly kick is unbelievable, the way he stays flat across the

:56:59.:57:02.

water, like a pond skater, when he gets it right. We will talk about

:57:03.:57:06.

him loads more, but let's look at the other Brits in action, the

:57:07.:57:10.

women. Go 100-metre backstroke semifinal. There are Brits in both

:57:11.:57:13.

of these. The two British entrants are in two

:57:14.:57:25.

and six. Georgia Davies and Kathleen Dawson. Both of the British women

:57:26.:57:33.

have a great chance of making this final. There was some good swimming

:57:34.:57:44.

in the heats. Seebohm looking good with that yellow hat. Looking really

:57:45.:57:47.

good. She would not have been happy last year, missing out on the medals

:57:48.:57:53.

at the Olympic Games. I have my eyes on lane two, Georgia Davies, really

:57:54.:57:59.

keen to see her do well here. But it is all Seebohm in the middle of the

:58:00.:58:08.

pool. Smoliga of America right next to her. Kathleen looking pretty good

:58:09.:58:13.

just to the left of that. Come on, Kathleen, get through. Both British

:58:14.:58:17.

women looking good here. It looks like it is going to be Emily Seebohm

:58:18.:58:24.

winning this. It is not that quick. Look at the British women, very good

:58:25.:58:31.

indeed. So, Kathleen Dawson in third, Georgia Davies in fourth. But

:58:32.:58:41.

Emily Seebohm, well, and 59 seconds. She will certainly get through to

:58:42.:58:45.

the final. Smoliga second for the USA. It's going be a really tight

:58:46.:58:49.

race to get through this final. The second semi is really quick. I think

:58:50.:58:54.

more than four have a chance of going sub 60. This morning, there

:58:55.:59:02.

were five girls under one minute. We've got to be careful. Georgia

:59:03.:59:05.

Davies could be right on the cusp. It just depends how they go. Great

:59:06.:59:11.

to see Kathleen Dawson, training with Ben Hickson at the University

:59:12.:59:14.

of Stirling, doing a great time, getting under the minute barrier.

:59:15.:59:18.

She missed out on the Olympics last year, she is going to relish the

:59:19.:59:22.

World Championship final tomorrow. I think she has probably done enough.

:59:23.:59:28.

Dawson looks good. 59.8. We're going to have to wait for the second

:59:29.:59:32.

semifinal, very close. But Seebohm winning it.

:59:33.:59:36.

Fingers crossed that the British girls can book a place in the

:59:37.:59:43.

semifinal. -- in the final. What did you make of that? Both solid. They

:59:44.:59:47.

both moved on from the heats this morning. Kathleen is 0.2 from her

:59:48.:59:55.

PB, she probably wants to try and break it tomorrow. Georgia has been

:59:56.:59:58.

half a second quicker, I think she would have wanted to pose a faster

:59:59.:00:02.

marker. She trains that way, Ben Proud does. She probably saw her

:00:03.:00:06.

team-mate, been buzzing, and got hyped up, she would want to put in a

:00:07.:00:12.

better performance, a solid one, enough to be more confident that she

:00:13.:00:16.

will make that final. We were keeping our eyes peeled to see if

:00:17.:00:19.

Ben was going to stick around to see how his team mate got on. I think

:00:20.:00:23.

you didn't know what to do with himself? No, I think it that whole

:00:24.:00:31.

thing about belief. Until you do it, you don't really get it. I think

:00:32.:00:36.

seeing him grow, every time he gets to the block, being around James and

:00:37.:00:39.

some of the top swimmers, it rubs off on you and you become more

:00:40.:00:42.

relaxed. You start believing, actually, I belong here and can beat

:00:43.:00:46.

other people. When you don't race the Americans very often, you think

:00:47.:00:49.

you are up against the Americans, you don't come up against the very

:00:50.:00:56.

often. Now he can take it to them. I think Dressle will wish he had found

:00:57.:00:58.

John Elliott. He has got the confidence, the medal

:00:59.:01:06.

and the title and no one can take it away from him, let's see if the

:01:07.:01:10.

British girls can get themselves into the final, here is the second

:01:11.:01:12.

semifinal. Over two commentators. The Canadian only just missed

:01:13.:01:39.

breaking Great Britain's world-record, set back in 2009. I

:01:40.:01:48.

wonder if the world-record is going to go, they have been queueing up,

:01:49.:01:54.

the dam is ready to burst. It's been great to watch Masse in the cold

:01:55.:01:58.

room, she was laughing and giggling to herself, having a joke with Emily

:01:59.:02:03.

Seaborn and when you are relaxed you might be able to swim faster. Third

:02:04.:02:11.

last year at the Olympic Games. She has to be the hot favourite year for

:02:12.:02:17.

the World Championship title. If she can break the world record that

:02:18.:02:25.

would be something. I was talking to the Canadian coaches and they were

:02:26.:02:28.

looking forward to this. Second sign a

:02:29.:02:32.

the world number one Masse swam 58.21 earlier this year, 58.12 is

:02:33.:02:44.

the world-record. Going pretty well in the centre, black suit, white

:02:45.:02:51.

hat, right on world-record pace. She really is getting good turnover,

:02:52.:02:57.

great efficiency as well. Baker, Alan Thicke silver medallist, not

:02:58.:03:02.

giving it all her own way, a tenth of a second under world-record pace

:03:03.:03:05.

at this stage and the 21-year-old Canadian is looking exceptional.

:03:06.:03:17.

When the world-record was broken in 2009 she came back extremely fast,

:03:18.:03:22.

Masse has work to do to break it. It's going to be close, the

:03:23.:03:30.

world-record survives by 61 hundredths of a second and that is

:03:31.:03:35.

the second fastest time in history. Masse of Canada, what a great second

:03:36.:03:47.

50 it was. Amazing. If Gemma was watching she was hiding behind a

:03:48.:03:50.

cushion because that world-record was under threat but how smooth did

:03:51.:03:55.

that work? She really is blowing, she gave it absolutely everything.

:03:56.:04:03.

Fastest qualifier, must be about six or seven tenths of a second. Great

:04:04.:04:07.

shots showing us how efficient she is. Streamline under the water, got

:04:08.:04:15.

to get end, good finish, missed out by hundredths of a second, what a

:04:16.:04:18.

race that will be tomorrow night and they will have another go at taking

:04:19.:04:25.

it down. Demonstrating her finish. Not quite sure what she's doing!

:04:26.:04:32.

It's the face of the second fastest backstroke swimmer in history. The

:04:33.:04:40.

world-record survives, maybe only just another day, will it go

:04:41.:04:42.

tomorrow? The good news for Great Britain is I

:04:43.:04:58.

think at least Dawson has made the final. I'm not sure if Georgia

:04:59.:05:07.

Davies has. Kathleen Dawson has, that is absolutely brilliant.

:05:08.:05:15.

Wonderful stuff. The 19-year-old from Stirling.

:05:16.:05:22.

We will see Kathleen Dawson tomorrow night in the final join us if you

:05:23.:05:28.

can, thanks to tonight Great Britain can boast two world champions, Adam

:05:29.:05:34.

Peaty and Ben Proud. This was your event, you know how hard it is, what

:05:35.:05:39.

it takes to take the title, what did he do that was so good tonight?

:05:40.:05:46.

Concentrated on his own race. He said he was more relaxed beforehand,

:05:47.:05:50.

it is what you trained to do, you train, when you walk out, average

:05:51.:05:55.

talking about being in the zone, in the moment. You've done it so many

:05:56.:05:59.

times before you are not even thinking and it makes you so much

:06:00.:06:05.

more relaxed. He just did his own race, with long distance races you

:06:06.:06:10.

can see where people are and use it as a marker but Ben Proud, great

:06:11.:06:15.

start, said he had to get the start right, he's one of the best starters

:06:16.:06:20.

in the world. Has his head down all the way, not looking at anyone else

:06:21.:06:26.

whatsoever, it's just him, the water and the wall. If you are not looking

:06:27.:06:31.

at anyone then you don't know where you are right? Could have been

:06:32.:06:49.

anywhere, first or fifth. It was rushed, but Ben was perfect. That

:06:50.:06:58.

explains his reaction, being a bit surprised. It was really cute, he

:06:59.:07:03.

did not know what to do, he is not arrogant at all, we always said he

:07:04.:07:07.

needed more confidence. He is looking around, thinking mum, dad,

:07:08.:07:13.

what is going wrong? Acute seems like the wrong word, when you look

:07:14.:07:17.

at his physique, how much effort does it take to get a body like

:07:18.:07:22.

that? A lot of training and gym work. Talking to his coach who used

:07:23.:07:25.

to be head of the sprint programme in the UK is note out in Turkey, but

:07:26.:07:31.

I was talking to him about Ben he said he's not the most talented

:07:32.:07:35.

summer in the world but we are making the best of what he has got.

:07:36.:07:40.

He's great that we will make him unreal. We have already seen two

:07:41.:07:46.

Britain's top the podium tonight and we have got another chance,

:07:47.:07:52.

Siobhan-Marie O'Connor in the final of the 200-metre individual medley.

:07:53.:07:55.

Asked to chase down a huge home favourite.

:07:56.:08:02.

My break after Rio was lovely, I had a lovely time but then you lose a

:08:03.:08:08.

lot of momentum when you take a break and I forgot how hard a week

:08:09.:08:13.

of training is on your body. But once I did I started to enjoy it

:08:14.:08:18.

again. 2015 the World Championships I did not raise my own race at all.

:08:19.:08:26.

I tried to stick with Katinka as much as I could and it is when she

:08:27.:08:32.

broke the world-record. At a metres I was under the world-record pace

:08:33.:08:35.

and that is not how I needed to swim it. You need to focus on how it is

:08:36.:08:41.

best for you. My target for Budapest is to back up what I did last year

:08:42.:08:47.

and get on the podium. It will be another great chance to race Katinka

:08:48.:08:53.

, I know how to race, how it suits me and I pushed pretty close in Rio

:08:54.:08:58.

and gave me the confidence but you always have the doubts in your head

:08:59.:09:02.

of can I do it on the big stage and deliver when the pressure is on? But

:09:03.:09:08.

having performed like I did in Rio it's given me more confidence than

:09:09.:09:12.

ever. I have realised I can do it when the pressure is on and each

:09:13.:09:16.

race I do I'll hopefully get closer and closer and closer so we will

:09:17.:09:17.

see. The 200-metre individual medley

:09:18.:09:25.

coming up featuring Siobhan-Marie O'Connor and the roof will be off

:09:26.:09:31.

because Katinka Hosszu is in it, huge home favourite, massive

:09:32.:09:35.

superstar here in Hungary. But we are very proud of Siobhan-Marie

:09:36.:09:38.

O'Connor, a real character who has fought a lot in terms of personal

:09:39.:09:45.

health, what you make of her chances tonight given the year she has had?

:09:46.:09:50.

She had a longer break than everyone else and she admits that but she

:09:51.:09:56.

such a racer, she loves it, fantastic skills, one of the best

:09:57.:10:00.

starts in the world. In her heats she looked really relaxed, last

:10:01.:10:05.

night in the semifinal it looked a little bit harder. She has pulled

:10:06.:10:09.

out of the 100-metre breast Rope tonight to give it everything she's

:10:10.:10:13.

got because she wants the medal. Hopefully she will be buzzing

:10:14.:10:17.

watching the Ben and add and it will give her confidence.

:10:18.:10:28.

Lots of girl power in action tonight, we are hoping Siobhan can

:10:29.:10:38.

do the job, got the Olympic medal, silver, in Rio, can she do it

:10:39.:10:43.

tonight? Let's see. But let's talk about James Guy, he's a friend of

:10:44.:10:48.

the show and a real character, the defending 200 freestyle world

:10:49.:10:51.

champion, let's hear from him ahead of his event. I don't have much

:10:52.:10:58.

pressure on me at this one. In that aspect it's about getting into my

:10:59.:11:04.

PB's again because then I will be a medal contender. After the Olympics

:11:05.:11:07.

everything dies down a little and it gets quieter so now is my chance to

:11:08.:11:11.

do what I do and enjoy the sport again and that's what I'm doing. I

:11:12.:11:16.

am happy, I want to go fast and I know I can. There are medal options

:11:17.:11:21.

there. I feel like the old James Guy again, a storm is coming. A storm is

:11:22.:11:29.

coming, it was more of the drizzly midweek afternoon in his 400 bless

:11:30.:11:36.

him. I thought you meant this afternoon, because it was. That was

:11:37.:11:41.

a storm, James Guy however, I think he would have been disappointed with

:11:42.:11:47.

his time in the 400? I don't think it is his best event. He did so well

:11:48.:11:53.

in the 100-metre butterfly, his 200 metres I think personally is his

:11:54.:11:57.

better event and it's the one he likes, even Bill Furnace said that

:11:58.:12:01.

last night, 400 is not his main focus. I think James, he rooms with

:12:02.:12:08.

Adam, they have such a great relationship. In Rio he just got

:12:09.:12:13.

better throughout the week and I think James is one of those swim

:12:14.:12:18.

into the meet guys. We saw it at the Europeans a couple of years ago, not

:12:19.:12:21.

a great start then he came back and pushed everybody. I think he will do

:12:22.:12:28.

it again. The 400 metres looked very relaxed and in control at the start

:12:29.:12:34.

but 200 metres and 400 metres are completely different events and he's

:12:35.:12:38.

focusing more on the 200. I expect to see him up there. You will make

:12:39.:12:48.

the final, he wants to show the others he has form. I think being

:12:49.:12:54.

the reigning champion will not want to let his opponents have it too

:12:55.:13:00.

easy. Duncan Scott also in this one who has been in great form, exciting

:13:01.:13:04.

prospect based on what he's done so far this year.

:13:05.:13:16.

The top 16 very, very close indeed after the heat this morning. 200

:13:17.:13:52.

metres freestyle, only 1.6 seconds dividing the whole field. It's going

:13:53.:13:57.

to be a wagon race, it could be anybody's in terms of getting in but

:13:58.:14:03.

cannot see the likes of James Guy, Duncan Scott, you would hope those

:14:04.:14:06.

guys definitely get through. Good to see this year that the Brits, third

:14:07.:14:12.

and fourth fastest times in the world, they do have some strength

:14:13.:14:18.

here. Looks fantastic for the really where we are defending champions.

:14:19.:14:24.

These guys have got a job to do here. With only 1.6 seconds between

:14:25.:14:36.

all 16, you cannot mess about, very important to set a fast time. Haas

:14:37.:14:48.

will be right next to James Guy but here is the defending world

:14:49.:14:52.

champion. The British record-holder James Guy of Great Britain. Would

:14:53.:14:58.

love to see him go maybe a low 145. I think if he does that he should be

:14:59.:15:05.

fine. That is the sort of time needed to win two years ago. Only 19

:15:06.:15:10.

years old then, taking on the best in the world and winning. Did not

:15:11.:15:15.

quite go his way, unfortunately James Guy fourth in Rio last year

:15:16.:15:20.

and absolutely gutted. Still came away with two silver medals but it's

:15:21.:15:23.

the individual glory he wants to back it up with. No Chad Le Clos, we

:15:24.:15:33.

saw his strategy last year at the Olympics, going out so hard and

:15:34.:15:37.

clinging on, but it's painful. Interesting to see how James takes

:15:38.:15:45.

it out here. A massive cheer for the Hungarian in six. The crowd here I

:15:46.:15:50.

think are the loudest I have ever heard at a swimming meet. Perhaps

:15:51.:15:52.

only rivalled by the 2012 Olympics. James Guy is going with it. Look at

:15:53.:16:10.

him. It's like the darts! It is louder than the darts, the World

:16:11.:16:14.

Championship semifinal, then's 200-metre freestyle.

:16:15.:16:31.

The first semifinal of the men's to did metres freestyle. James Guy

:16:32.:16:43.

having a decent start. Majchrzak of Poland in three. Eyeballing each

:16:44.:16:58.

other, James Guy and Townley Haas. The middle 100 is where you have to

:16:59.:17:02.

establish your pace. That is where it can be won and lost. A lot of the

:17:03.:17:08.

American in lane five, one lane up from James Guy. He is really taking

:17:09.:17:14.

it to the field. He has to be a little bit careful. All of these

:17:15.:17:17.

guys can come back. He also has to be careful because the second semi

:17:18.:17:26.

is very quick indeed. Townley Haas over first for the USA. In third,

:17:27.:17:34.

the Pole. Guy is looking good in the centre, in the black hats to the

:17:35.:17:38.

left of the two leaders. Good swimming. Come on, let's really work

:17:39.:17:46.

the turn. Set yourself up for a good last 50. A great time to go into the

:17:47.:17:51.

final. Look at the wall from Townley Haas, the American. Maybe James Guy

:17:52.:17:54.

fancies this. He is not going to let this World Championship title go

:17:55.:17:59.

down easy. Maybe it is a statement of intent? What time can he do? Guy

:18:00.:18:04.

is looking good. Very important to get a good touch. If he can get to

:18:05.:18:10.

maybe third, it looks like he will win the first semifinal, James Guy

:18:11.:18:12.

of Great Britain looking comfortable. His time, 1.40 five.

:18:13.:18:19.

That was very good indeed. He won the World Championship title two

:18:20.:18:28.

years ago for 100 slower than that. That's a very good semifinal swim.

:18:29.:18:32.

Very mature, exactly what he needed to do. Guy the first semifinal. So

:18:33.:18:38.

excited. I think he has just realised he is in the best form of

:18:39.:18:43.

his life. OK, here's four one hundredths of a second slower than

:18:44.:18:53.

he went previously. But he will want to take them on tonight. He was not

:18:54.:18:59.

scared of Haas. He had the confidence he would bring it back. I

:19:00.:19:03.

think that is where he is at his strongest. Measured over the first

:19:04.:19:09.

100 and really sticking it to the guys over the next. It was

:19:10.:19:12.

controlled, not frantic over the last 25 metres. He has his power,

:19:13.:19:17.

Adam Peaty, watching how he goes. I hope he enjoyed it. I'm guessing he

:19:18.:19:23.

didn't know the result. He looked a little bit vacant. But then he did

:19:24.:19:27.

just win the world title again. That was a very good swim. We got a

:19:28.:19:32.

thumbs up and OK, very good swimming. James Guy wins the first

:19:33.:19:39.

semifinal. Haas second, Kozma, very good from Hungary in third. Wow.

:19:40.:19:45.

200 is his much put -- preferred event. That was amazing. Rightly so,

:19:46.:19:56.

the second semifinal is going to be quick. He wants to get his hand on

:19:57.:20:00.

the wall first. He wasn't giving it up, he wasn't going to save

:20:01.:20:05.

anything. How much does he get from the atmosphere? He is a showman and

:20:06.:20:08.

great personality. Walking out here with these guys would have been

:20:09.:20:14.

super exciting for him. Left hand to Sharon, she's got James now.

:20:15.:20:19.

We are being told you are a showman, I thought you paced that are

:20:20.:20:27.

beautifully. A showman? The plan was to go out relaxed and hard, but have

:20:28.:20:31.

some left for the back half. It felt great. It looks really good. It

:20:32.:20:36.

looked like you were in control, so much better than the 100? This

:20:37.:20:39.

morning, so much more relaxed. I knew what I was going with the race.

:20:40.:20:46.

I'm loving it, it's great. You are going to take it to them, you're not

:20:47.:20:50.

going to let them have the title easily? I'll give it my best shot.

:20:51.:20:54.

There were some fast guys there. It will be a close one. You have become

:20:55.:20:59.

a man and moved away from and dad, how is that going? It's hard, my mum

:21:00.:21:04.

is making me some dinners for the start of the week, I am still

:21:05.:21:08.

struggling with the cooking. But it is great being at Bath. They said

:21:09.:21:11.

they are trying to send your brother to look after you. God, no, not

:21:12.:21:18.

going to happen. Good luck in the 200. We will keep everything crossed

:21:19.:21:19.

for you. We have Duncan Scott going in the

:21:20.:21:27.

second semifinal of this one. Let's hand over and Steve to take us

:21:28.:21:31.

through this one and see if two Brits can book themselves a place in

:21:32.:21:32.

fierce final tomorrow night. Well, it is going to be interesting.

:21:33.:21:53.

Look at that. There is the Olympic champion, Sun Yang. Let's not forget

:21:54.:21:58.

about Duncan Scott. He is the fastest man in the world at the

:21:59.:22:02.

moment on the 100 metres freestyle. Well, he was, coming into the meet.

:22:03.:22:14.

There is Sun Yang. He The gold on the 400. It was an ominous,

:22:15.:22:19.

frightening race. When he decided to go, sparks flew. He has got a lot of

:22:20.:22:24.

power, and a lot of other swimmers don't possess that. He seems to be

:22:25.:22:28.

able to turn it on when he wants to. Sun Yang has won eight gold medals

:22:29.:22:36.

at the championships. He can match winning eight titles. No Asian has

:22:37.:22:39.

ever finished top male, he could do it here.

:22:40.:22:45.

Second semifinal of the 200 metres freestyle. In lane six, Duncan Scott

:22:46.:22:51.

of Great Britain has a cracking chance of making the final. It was a

:22:52.:22:56.

quick first semi, so he has some work to do. Sun Yang in the centre,

:22:57.:23:02.

in the pink suit. Not a great start. Three from the bottom now, Duncan

:23:03.:23:07.

Scott is looking very good indeed. I'm a big fan of Duncan Scott. In

:23:08.:23:12.

swimming, technique is the limiting factor. He is such a brilliant

:23:13.:23:16.

technician. He has such easy speed because he's so fast on the 100. How

:23:17.:23:21.

does a six two guy who weighs about 12 stone from Scotland beat the

:23:22.:23:28.

biggest guys in the world? Because he's technically brilliant. Look at

:23:29.:23:32.

him, taking it to Sun Yang. I would not worry about the Japanese, I fear

:23:33.:23:36.

it might have been taken out too hard. Duncan Scott has real easy

:23:37.:23:40.

speed. He wants to show the guys what he is made. Come on, let's

:23:41.:23:45.

build into this third 50, the most important for me. He looks

:23:46.:23:50.

sensational. He looks very good indeed, three lanes from the right.

:23:51.:23:56.

Duncan Scott pass to hold on. He worked the second and third 50 very

:23:57.:24:00.

hard. But he is leading by maybe a metre or a metre and a half. One

:24:01.:24:06.

length left. Duncan Scott is half a second head of the field, with the

:24:07.:24:10.

two Russians in second and third. Here comes Sun Yang in the centre.

:24:11.:24:15.

It is fast, he needs to hold on. This would be brilliant if he could

:24:16.:24:18.

beat these guys. I fear he is getting himself into some trouble.

:24:19.:24:23.

It must be hurting now. He has done the job, I don't think he will let

:24:24.:24:27.

too many go past him, if any. He might get the touch. Come on. He's

:24:28.:24:36.

got it. 1:45.16. That is actually faster than James Guy won the first

:24:37.:24:41.

semi. Great Britain are going to go into the final in first and second.

:24:42.:24:46.

My goodness me. I did not expect that. What on earth are they

:24:47.:24:53.

sticking in these meals back at the British hotel? They must have had

:24:54.:24:58.

some good cereal this morning. I tell you what, everything is going

:24:59.:25:03.

the men's way. Duncan Scott, we have high expectations for him coming

:25:04.:25:08.

into the meet. He was the fastest in the world going into the meet. This

:25:09.:25:12.

200 freestyle is looking really strong as well. There is no reason

:25:13.:25:15.

tomorrow night that there couldn't be two British men on the blocks. It

:25:16.:25:18.

just looks brilliant. Duncan Scott wins the second

:25:19.:25:27.

semifinal. Look who was second. The Russians, third and fourth.

:25:28.:25:33.

Let's see who has made the final. Great Britain, let's savour that.

:25:34.:25:41.

Duncan Scott, fastest in the semifinal. Sun Yang is there. Mack

:25:42.:25:49.

Horton isn't. Wonderful news for the freestyle relay, goodness gracious.

:25:50.:25:56.

You lot are never happy, great, one and two fastest into the final, but

:25:57.:26:07.

the relay, come on. Let's talk about the 200 freestyle. How indicative is

:26:08.:26:12.

that of the final tomorrow night? I can't hear what you said! Both

:26:13.:26:18.

awesome. Duncan, all of the talk was about James, but Duncan looked so

:26:19.:26:23.

smooth down the first 100 metres. Legs hear from him, because he is

:26:24.:26:25.

with Sharon. Many congratulations, a tremendous

:26:26.:26:35.

swim. I don't know that we thought we had two Brits going in first and

:26:36.:26:41.

second. Neither did I. Just had to try to make it back. I'm really

:26:42.:26:47.

happy with that. Something is going on in the men's camp, success does

:26:48.:26:54.

breed success? Definitely. You saw it earlier on, Adam Peaty, and then

:26:55.:27:01.

Ben Proud. The men's camp in British swimming is in a good place. We will

:27:02.:27:05.

try to keep the momentum going. A fantastic couple of years you are

:27:06.:27:07.

having, getting better every time you get into the water. Easier said

:27:08.:27:14.

than done. A lot of hard work that gets you there, and the lovely thing

:27:15.:27:19.

is, the 200 freestyle will just help your 100 no end? Definitely. I was

:27:20.:27:23.

nervous going into it, because I hadn't swum internationally. But it

:27:24.:27:30.

gives me confidence, going into another event I have establish

:27:31.:27:34.

myself that. I am looking forward to that. We are looking forward to the

:27:35.:27:36.

final. Thank you very much. We have a final on our hands, time

:27:37.:27:44.

for the women's tinted metre individual medley, featuring Katinka

:27:45.:27:53.

Hosszu and Siobhan O'Connor for Great Britain.

:27:54.:28:01.

I cannot hear you. That was the loudest roar I think I have ever

:28:02.:28:07.

heard anywhere. That was unbelievable. Goodness gracious me.

:28:08.:28:11.

Katinka Hosszu of Hungary goes in as the fastest qualifier for the final

:28:12.:28:15.

of the women's 200 metres individual medley. My word. The crowd here have

:28:16.:28:25.

just gone absolutely nuts. Katinka Hosszu will be in four, Margalis

:28:26.:28:34.

will be in five, and Siobhan O'Connor will be in six. This crowd,

:28:35.:28:37.

the atmosphere is electric. I have never heard such a noise at

:28:38.:28:51.

the start. Siobhan O'Connor in six, fourth fastest into the final.

:28:52.:28:58.

Sydney Pickrem of Canada is in three. She is a big threat. The

:28:59.:29:01.

final of the women's 200 medley. The 50 metres butterfly, backstroke,

:29:02.:29:13.

breaststroke and freestyle. A very good start indeed, she has done to

:29:14.:29:18.

the championships, Katinka Hosszu of Hungary, the world record-holder and

:29:19.:29:22.

defending champion. She is first class. Absolutely brilliant. Covered

:29:23.:29:28.

in goose bumps after hearing that noise. It's like being at a football

:29:29.:29:33.

match. Katinka Hosszu is the Libby champion butterfly and backstroke,

:29:34.:29:36.

you can expect her to be fast on this first 100 metres. Siobhan-Marie

:29:37.:29:43.

O'Connor in second place. Katinka Hosszu will be wanting to play to

:29:44.:29:46.

her strengths and really work this backstroke leg. Siobhan-Marie

:29:47.:29:52.

O'Connor will not want to let her go. The Americans sandwiched in

:29:53.:29:57.

between. Pickrem not turning up, in lane three. That is a big surprise,

:29:58.:30:02.

he is not turning up at all. But Katinka Hosszu, the crowd is going

:30:03.:30:07.

to go nuts when she turns first. Hosszu over first, the world

:30:08.:30:12.

record-holder. Just outside of her world record pace. Great Britain's

:30:13.:30:16.

Siobhan-Marie O'Connor in fifth. Her breaststroke leg is very strong. You

:30:17.:30:20.

can just see the black hat on the left-hand side, three from the

:30:21.:30:24.

bottom. She is looking good, Siobhan-Marie O'Connor. She has some

:30:25.:30:28.

work to do down the second half. It really is all about the world

:30:29.:30:32.

champion, the defending champion, the Olympic champion, Katinka Hosszu

:30:33.:30:40.

of Hungary. Look at Siobhan O'Connor. She will be hurting, she

:30:41.:30:43.

had that long break after the Olympics. This is where

:30:44.:30:50.

Siobhan-Marie O'Connor Hass to work like she has never worked before she

:30:51.:30:53.

is going to get a bronze medal, but she is capable. Only one person is

:30:54.:30:57.

going to win this race, and that is Katinka Hosszu. She looks great. 20

:30:58.:31:02.

metres to go. She is going very well indeed. I have to say, Ohashi of

:31:03.:31:08.

Japan, closest to us, she is pushing it. Quite incredible. Katinka Hosszu

:31:09.:31:12.

is going to be the world champion again. She does win with a time of

:31:13.:31:24.

2:07.00. The bronze has gone to Cox of the USA.

:31:25.:31:30.

As you can hear, the Hungarian crowd is going absolutely nuts. More

:31:31.:31:35.

reaction on the red button. See you there.

:31:36.:31:37.

'From the heights of the Scottish Highlands

:31:38.:31:39.

'to the shores of East Anglia, I've travelled across Britain...'
