Third Round Draw The FA Cup

Hello and welcome to Cardiff - the capital and largest city in Wales.

It's home for a number of iconic institutions, including

the castle, Millennium Centre, the Welsh Assembly and Dr Who.

Cardiff has a rich sporting heritage as well,

with football, cricket and of course rugby all represented in the city.

And that's the reason we are here tonight

as we are backstage at the Sport Wales Awards to bring you the draw

Welcome to the Sport Wales National Centre in Cardiff.

The great and good of Welsh sport are here this evening

to bring you the draw for the Third Round of the FA Cup - where the top

John Hartson will be part of that draw. It's been a fantastic year

John Hartson will be part of that the sport. Fantastic, we've waited

58 years to get to a tournament. Chris Coleman has been exceptional,

as a group of players they've been phenomenal, from the goalkeeper to

the substitutes, everyone has played their part. And they will go there

thinking they've got a chance of getting out of the groups, and then

who knows? Wales will be looking to make an impact, trying to get out of

the group. It will be interesting, the draw that takes place next

Saturday. We can't meet Northern Ireland or the Republic but

potentially we could meet England, which is a juicy one. It is more

than a juicy one! Just a bit. They will go there and not just to make

the numbers up, with the likes of some of the players that we have

playing at the top of their game in the Premier League also, Gareth Bale

at Real Madrid is a real match winner and a proper talent. Wales

will fancy themselves against anybody. The draw for the Euros is

on Saturday, and you can follow that across the BBC. Real history in this

City. The final was here for six years at the Andy Millennium Stadium

and it produced some classics. Yes! He's done it! What an hello few

minutes from Michael Owen. Unbelievable stuff.

Ray Parlour, another wonderful goal for Arsenal. The first FA Cup Final

to be played under a roof. They've won the trophy for the ninth time in

their 16th final. Ronaldo! And Manchester United have tamed the

Lions. Arsenal have won the FA Cup again! Gerrard... He's done it!

Steven Gerrard has his hands on the FA Cup. I'm delighted to say the

current Cardiff manager Russell Slade joins us. The cub were in a

final in 2008, so the club have a decent relationship with the cup.

Yes, a good tradition with the cup. You know I like a cup run, so it

will be nice if we can get through a few rounds this season. Your Leyton

Orient side took Arsenal to a replay in 2011. Why do you love a cup run

so much? It is a welcome distraction sometimes for your players

so much? It is a welcome distraction away from the grind of the league

and go out and play some cup games. Sometimes it Spurs you on a bit when

you need that lift. It is fantastic. Do you have fond memories of that

draw with Arsenal and the celebration? Yeah, it was great

draw. Nobody knew about the French centre forward at the time, not even

Arsene Wenger, so we brought him on with 15 minutes to go, got a

fantastic equaliser and that allowed us to go to Arsenal for a replay.

Financially for the club and smaller clubs it is fantastic. Cardiff would

like a cup run and they are doing decently in the play-offs. You are

giving us the Swansea perspective. Could a cup run pep them up a bit?

Certainly, as Russell said, a cup run is good for the supporters. It

is good for the players to come up against quality opposition in the FA

Cup and it is a chance to play at Wembley. Personally I had a

wonderful career, Mark, but I never played in a FA Cup Final. Lots of

players have good careers and never done it. Marx Hughes and Ashley Cole

won four or five. They've been blessed. It is a great competition

to go as far as you can in. I hope you get the draw you want, someone

at home, is that what you want? Exactly that. Over the weekend we

had the second round. Here's a reminder what happened. It left us

with four non-league sides to go into the draw as the 44 from the top

two divisions join in just a while. There are a few non-league names to

look out forks including the one definitely through, Eastleigh.

Constable, and Strevens across goal. This is 2-0. That might be Eastleigh

through. All hand on deck for Hartlepool as it is whipped in. An

equalising goal! Salford are level. They are right back in the game.

Another good ball in and this time the equaliser arrives in stoppage

time! It's dream land for Whitehawk. Two Football League sides scraped

through against non-league opposition, Northwich Victoria and

Altrincham narrowly missed being in the hat. The comeback is complete.

Northampton have done it. Ball played long. Into the box. He's won

it and the third round beckons for Colchester United. The big boys will

be looking to avoid two teams with previous giant-killing pedigree.

Firstly last year's quarterfinalists Bradford City who put a shop to

Cheshire United's run. And Wycombe Wanderers... There's danger for

Millwall. A late goal and there it is. Wycombe Wanderers have won it!

Newport County came out on top in an all League Two clash at Barnet.

Boaden's goal gave Newport a first third round appearance in 30 years

and first since reforming in 1989. And there were a few crackers that

helped teams through as well. Here's Washington inside the penalty

area now. Goes to his left and then to his right... Washington from an

impossible angle! Conor Grant. Oh what a strike that was as well. It's

3-1 and it was a fantastic strike. Doncaster very much in the

ascendancy. Let's talk to some of the representative obvious the clubs

who had good weekends. Chris Todd from Eastleigh. The dream goes on.

In the third round for the first time? It is a great achievement and

I'm delighted to be in the draw. It's the third round and we are

looking forward hopefully for a nice tie. And for you personally, who has

set targets since you beat cancer? You have to live life to the Max,

but my main priority is being a football manager and hopefully we

can get a lovely draw in this round. It inspires people, you understand

that don't you? Of course, in life people get themselves stuck in a

bubble and they keep doing the same old every day, but I want to try and

express myself and try different things. Di that and now I've got a

new opportunity being a football manager of a great club. I have to

go on to Whitehawk with manager Steve King, and Jordan Rose. Have

you calmed down since yesterday? I got a bit excited. That's

understandable. That's the FA Cup for you. Are you enjoying it? Yeah,

a fantastic run. Don't want it to end. Has this man given you a few

hugs since you scored the equaliser? Just a few. Did you plan your

celebration? We did but we didn't. On Thursday night in training we

spoke about it briefly, but I would imagine what everyone was going to

do with me. You've got the replay to come. Who would you like? Liverpool

of Newport, you were last in the third round when the club was under

a different guise how long ago? 30 years ago. We played Sunderland in

1986 and lost 2-0. I was 16 at the time. You were there weren't you?

No, my parents didn't let me go. Is that because Tony is older? A lot

older. What does it mean to be back in the third round as

older. What does it mean to be back club? We are a fan-owned club now.

And Southampton have an all Premier League tie with Crystal Palace. And

Doncaster Rovers. Beat Cambridge, that is one of the goals of the

round over the weekend. 37. And Doncaster will be welcoming Mark

Hughes and Stoke City. League One against Premier League. 21. 21,

Leeds are at home. Lost in the Third Round in four of the last five

seasons have Leeds. 34. And Leeds are at home to Rotherham. Steve

Evans, Neil Redfern, Leeds versus Rotherham. 11. 11. Cardiff. You are

at home, Russell! 53. You will be welcoming either Grimsby Town or

Shrewsbury Town, who are playing this evening. Cardiff against

Grimsby Town or Shrewsbury Town. 18. That's Huddersfield Town. 33.

Huddersfield Town will be at home to managerless Reading, another all

Championship tie. Six teams left. 26. 26. Middlesbrough, beat

Manchester City in the fourth round last year. 10. And they will be

playing Burnley. Middlesbrough against Burnley, another all

Championship tie. 29. 29. Norwich City. 24. And Norwich City will take

on Manchester City. The final tie... 19. At home will be Hull City, who

will take on? 8. The Championship lead ers Brighton Hove Albion.

That is the final tie. So there we have it,

thanks to Mark and John. The ties for the Third Round

of the FA Cup will be played Let's take a look at some of the

ties from that round. Exeter against Liverpool, one of the ones that

stands out. Derby County will be going to Salford or Hartlepool.

There is an all Premier League game between Spurs and Leicester.

Northampton Town, having got through against Northwich Victoria, get the

Championship side, the MK Dons. An all Premier League tie between

Arsenal and Sunderland and Newport will be welcoming Blackburn Rovers

and Swansea of the Premier League will go to League Two Oxford.

Whitehawk, if they get through against Dagenham Redbridge, will

be away at Everton. Eastleigh will be welcoming Bolton Wanderers and

Leyton Orient or Scunthorpe will be going to Chelsea. A couple of ones

there, Huddersfield Town against Reading, Middlesbrough against

Burnley, both all Championship ties. Some cracking Cup ties -

and if you've missed any of the weekend's action,

this is how you can relive it. What a goal! That is why they bought

the club! Chelsea have been dumped out of the FA Cup. It's a beauty!

How about that? Wembley! So, let's recap some of those ties

with some of the people we have with us, Chris Todd, Eastleigh, it was

Bolton? Yes. Bottom of the Championship. Yeah, it's a

Championship team. We will be looking forward to that tie. We

would like a Premier League one, but the Championship is just as good.

Not too bad. Good for the finances? Not bad. Everybody is after Arsenal

away. Another bit of history for the club, taking on a Championship team.

We did well against Crewe in a previous round, from League One.

Let's have a go and see if we can be back here for the Fourth Round.

Wherever we are for the Fourth Round. You couldn't stop grinning,

Steve, when Whitehawk came at Everton? I wanted the Reds, but we

got the Blues. Dagenham Redbridge will fancy their chances. It's a

massive carrot for whoever gets through. Does that increase the

pressure on you and your players knowing what is around the corner?

Or does it inspire? I think it inspires. I think everybody is going

to want to play in that game. Like I said, it's 50/50 and it's the best

on the day and see who gets through. It will be a tough game to get past

them. Let me go into the Welsh connection. I will go in between

you. You have the home tie you wanted? Exactly. Possibly one of my

old clubs, Grimsby Town. It's always tough, non-league teams, or league

teams, lower-league teams, they ignore the level, the Cup ignores

the level. It will be tough. You would like one of your old sides,

wouldn't you, Grimsby Town? Whoever it is, it would be nice if it is

Grimsby Town. If not, Shrewsbury Town. You didn't get the away tie

you wanted, but you have got a former Premier League club, and a

Championship club in Blackburn? We are happy with that. Hopefully, we

will get a bumper crowd and we look forward to welcoming Blackburn.
