Good evening. After the drama of the League Cup, today saw a return to

the proverbial bread and butter. Nine games in an the first major

sacking of the season as Nigel Clough leaves Derby. I will be

getting reaction to that unexpected news and the other headlines

following this week's round of games. We look back at the defeat

that put back to Nigel Clough's reign at Derby as they took on

Nottingham Forest in the early kick-off at the city ground. After a

promising start, Leeds United were on late poor run. But they were in

South East London facing a club going in the opposite direction as

they looked for a third straight win, Millwall. Blackpool's early

charge came to a halt with action from Friday night at Huddersfield.

Another north-west club hardly tipped to set the championship

alight but have upset the sceptics was Burnley against Charlton. And

now I game that would have serious ramifications the Nigel Clough. The

Rams, who boasted the best away record took on Nottingham Forest who

happened to be the best team at home.

There has been a vibrancy so far about Forest. Just a touch from Lee

Grant. Forest are playing some this was an admiral said. That is a

stumble. Having lost his footing he was determined not to be caught

out, but it has cost him a yellow card.

It is a wonderful save by Lee Grant. They should now have done a North.

the back. It is disappointing but we take some

heart from the performance. We have come in and played well. We have

given everything. We feel a little bit unlucky. I am pleased because we

hear about these two clubs. One is a shambles and one is making great

progress. We are on the right road, we are on the right track and we are

the fans. Forest, way with their fifth win of the season. It has

emerged Nigel Clough is sacked by the Derby board after his fifth full

season in charge. It was seen as a long-term project. He had to cut the

wage bill and did not have a lot to play with. I am flabbergasted by the

news tonight. I thought Nigel was doing a good job. I know Derby has

frustrated a lot of people, including myself. Fell down in both

boxes. But they were sticking to the plan. Lots of Young players coming

through. Quite a few free transfers came in in the summer. They have

raised the expectations to finish in the six -- top six, but nine games

in, is not enough. He has cultivated this passing game which is going

down a treat away from home. If you look at his record, it is impressive

when you see it on paper? When he took over, the club was not in good

shape. They had to cut the wage bill. There is a great foundation he

has put in place and it is a shame he has not been able to see it

through. Tony Pulis was there watching the game, it has been seen

as a red herring. Whoever takes over at Derby will be rubbing their hands

together. Good players who play good football. There is a few things that

together. Good players who play good need tweaking, but a great

foundation. Forest won on Saturday, they were not at their best but they

are looking in period? It is ironic, against the run of play,

Jack Hobbs. His goal from a set piece. I am sure they are delighted.

More games from the championship starting with Friday night at the

John Smith Stadium as Huddersfield took on Blackpool who are without a

win in the last two. Huddersfield with just one win in

their last five games in all competitions. Ricardo Fuller! He

changed things in the second half and the substitutes made a

first-half offside call. Scott Weisman put it in the net but the

linesman let Leicester off the hook. The foxes will argue that they

deserve their eventual opener. David Nugent got his fifth goal of the

season and the first that has not come from the penalty spot. Barnsley

look determined to restrict their hosts. Jack Buckland helped keep

from the spot, with Jack Buckland undoing his good work with a badly

timed lunge on Jamie Bardsley. That forced Barnsley on to the front

the game would have said that we had scored a perfectly good goal. He was

delighted about the victory. It is a victory we deserve. Watford now

stringing together three victories back-to-back. Not at their fluent

best but against fellow promotion rivals in the Wigan Athletic, does

it really matter? A win is a win. I had been looking forward to this

game to see how Watford would react. They reacted very well. I think that

would please Zola. To get the three points was very important. Talking

about clean sheets, you cannot get better than QPR at the moment. This

equals a club record the clean sheets. They have got Andy Johnson,

Bobby Zamora and Charlie Austen up front, but that backline looks

formidable at the moment. You have got to give credit to June -- to Joe

Jordan and Kevin Bond, I am sure that they have been working on that.

That was their problem in the premiership. Now they do not want to

give it away. And Robert Green doing what he did with West Ham in the

championship. It is confidence. He is not an England goalkeeper for no

reason. That confidence is back. What a difference one week has made

for Millwall, after a nightmare start, the Lions have responded with

successive victories over then league leaders Blackpool and South

London rivals Charlton to lift some of the gloom surrounding the club.

Leeds United have lost the last three in all competitions.

There has never been a goalless draw in the previous meetings between

these two sites, matches that have been full of spy sent fervent

passion. Victory for Steve Lomas's side today would seem then joining

Leeds United on 11 points. Millwall scored a victory against South

London rivals, Charlton, last weekend. Jermaine Easter and Danny

Shittu coming to the site. Stephen Warnock and Lee Peltier, into Leeds,

Scott Malone, brilliant. What a goal that is for Millwall. The

thought that Martyn Waghorn was in an offside position. Use on-site,

and it just would not run for Martyn Woolford. Martyn Waghorn with the

is limping after a collision or train them. This might be an own

goal from Scott Malone, of the post and the way, and David Forde falls

on the ball gratefully. This shows you that it is not destined to be

Leeds United's day. Ross MacCormack took it down nicely.

afternoon for Brian McDermott and lead United. -- Leeds United. It is

about developing a winning mentality to turn those draws into victory and

I thought they did that, the goals that they scored were fantastic. And

we hit the post three times. I thought, on balance, we deserved it.

Results define everything and we have not found what we are looking

for because we have not had the results that we needed. Today, we

did not deserve anything from that game. Honest assessment from the

Leeds manager, Brian McDermott. What a turnaround from Millwall. We had

players. What else can you put their resurgence down to? I was impressed

with the performance against Charlton, and starting off in the

same vein against Leeds United at home. That was an outstanding goal

from Martyn Woolford. His first touch is excellent, in between the

defenders, he just gets it out from under his feet and put it into the

bottom corner. You could see the confidence returning to their play.

Scott Malone, coming forward, the full-back, and a lovely finish with

his first touch. You can see what Steve Lomas has been trying to get

them to do. And I think that they are starting to understand what he

is getting at. Scott Malone is filling in at left back for Shane

Lowry. He kept going here, he does not worry about hitting the post, he

wants to keep it out of his own net. A little bit of luck has gone their

way. Three victories in a row, and we know that Steve Lomas has got

connections with West Ham, and he is we know that Steve Lomas has got

winning over a sceptical section of those Millwall fans. He is a young

manager who wants to do well. He has come into the championship with a

difficult club. Any jacket did a good job under difficult

circumstances -- Kenny Jackett. And I am sure that they are going to

move forward under him. Burnley fans had been understandably concerned

where the goals will come from but they need not have worried, with

nine in 11 games Danny Ings has propelled his side to second in the

table. Now it is the turn of Burnley to

put their higher League Premier League neighbours into the shade.

And Burnley have done it with a manager and his centre half who has

clocked up a land marked and a centre-forward who is in form. When

Charlie left you sniffed the opportunity. Last year we were in

different positions and is here I am trying to cement myself in the

position to win. Many of our fans still reflect back and coming out

of that we were almost back in the big time and we will stay there,

but it is not easy. We are averaging around 12,500. Bernie is

getting that to what I knew Burney as when I played there. It was an

important part of the town. The fans owned the feel of the club

really. They cared for it and they looked after it and they want to

bring that positivity to it. Congratulations, 300 appearances

and 300 or Burnley as well. You have played in eight divisions in

The question was by how many? But they enjoyed a reprieve. Sam Vokes

made this their heaviest defeat so far. If you are going to keep

scoring all these goals, you are going to have to learn to celebrate.

What did you do? You hurt your hand on the hoarding? I lost my head and

I took my anger out on the ball which is silly. You have had

stitches? I have, yes. Stick to the day-job and tone down the

celebrations! I have played in decent teams down the years and

there is always that team bond and that Seal and that energy for each

other and there is certainly that. Of course you need the tactical

knowledge and ability and the fitness to back that up, but a lot

of it is that mental and social side. How hard you will work for

the people around you. It is a great story for Burnley.

They said they would not spend beyond their means and it shows the

limitations they have to work with. They are almost stronger without

Charlie Austin. They are and it comes from the forward partnership.

Sometimes when you lose that aspect of your team, other people take up

the baton and that is what has happened here. Danny has had his

injury problems. Sam Vokes is only 23 years old and he has been in

nine clubs and he has had caps for Wales. He has got potential, and

they complement each other well. Can they keep this going? I do not

see why not. There is a great spirit there and Sean prepares

immaculately. That is a key as well. The team is well organised and they

know what they are expected to do when they go on to the pits. They

are full of confidence now and they are very dangerous. And negotiating

the League Cup along with their commitments because they are doing

very well. They are into the start of the season and he has not rested

players. They have potential. The miserable end to a five in a row

know when run was ended. Could the blues make it three in a row with

been born Reading? Burnley could not replicate the midweek

performance at Reading. The Royals soon found themselves on top. The

opening goal owed more to luck than judgment.

Guthrie was back on free kick duties in the second half. Back-to-

so hard and they should have got more from it, but that is football

sometimes. Gary Johnson spent his 50th birthday looking to heap more

pressure on Dougie Freedman. Bolton looked back on what might have been.

but for Bolton it was saved at the death, but still no striker on the

scoresheet. It is difficult for the strikers at the moment. I am

looking at the loan signings that Dougie Freedman has taken in. I

wonder if there is an imbalance in the squad. When you are not scoring

goals you often get a striker on loan. I wonder if they need to

balance this caught out. An introduction of the loans may be

will balance the squad. Carry him on the theme of striking. Doncaster

beat Sheffield Wednesday and they are continuing their great run of

form in their 4th consecutive won over the Owls. Federico Macheda

comes with a big reputation. But he has not progressed in the last

couple of years. He has got a lot to prove. He certainly has. He

scored a fantastic goal on his debut, but things have been

difficult for him. But it is a good place for him to go. Paul Dickov

knows how the mind of a striker works and he will help him to move

his career on. The Hewitt is the only striker to have scored. As for

Reading, a win four out of five. Billy Sharp looks like an astute

signing. Nigel knows him very well and Nigel started his career at

Scunthorpe. He took him to Southampton and Billy is a

confident player. Once he starts scoring goals, it is difficult to

stop him. Leyton orient were threatening to

rewrite the record books. Walsall were next up.

Leyton orient's pursuit of perfection has been and expect good

narrative of the season. Played eight, have won eight, and when Andy

Butler was sent off with just 18 minutes played, it seemed an

blades were slipping to their sixth successive defeat and the bottom of

the league. Wolverhampton Wanderers with a stunning strike. Good times

are back. Preston began the day as one of

three teams still unbeaten and it was confirmed by this early goal.

Chris Humphries cross teamed up Davis. He claimed he had been

impeded. Scott Laird's scuffed cross left the defender in two minds.

Swindon, who gave everything against Chelsea in the league cup earlier in

the week, so they managed a late consolation goal.

A superb draw with Colchester two weeks ago brought an end to

Bradford's 100% home record this season. Tom Bradshaw's fourth goal

in seven games meant they had a strap on their hands this time round

as well. But they came from behind three times already this campaign to

claim the point. On the hour, they levelled the match. This time they

went on to take all three points. But only after Bradshaw wasted a

terrific chance to restore the lead. They were also helped by the

dismissal of the central defender fisheries buried. His handball on

the end of the box was his second bookable offence. Bradford took

advantage deep into stoppage time. The ball bouncing around the box for

what seemed an age before they fired it into the corner.

Both these sides have something to prove. Robinson wanted MK dons to be

more ruthless in front of goal. They were exactly that. Patrick Bamford

applied the decisive touch. He does not get too many with his head. He

has scored in every home game this season and from Luke Chadwick's

cutback he took his tally to eight. The home side were two up in 22

minutes and 60 seconds later it was three. Bamford was the architect

Graham Westwood said he was humiliated to the defeat to Carlisle

last week. Freeman's cross was diverted into his own goal by Darren

Potter. But the visitors were heading for eight third successive

good expectation and feeling around Preston. The manager has only been

there since February. With Iain Hume, and people like Kevin Davies

leading the line as well, the expectations of their levels of

performance have been raised. Worrying times to Sheffield United

fans, they have now lost their last six games. With just one point from

their last four games, Oldham could do without the speculation of their

future ownership. They travelled to Crawley.

A trip to finishing school might be an idea for both these teams. In a

game of many chances, only one was taken. Walsh has doubled his career

tally. Emile Sinclair, the 6-figure signing from Peter Boro allowed his

angle to become too tight. He was by no means the only player culpable.

Somehow C Macdonald failed to convert. Now a clear theme was

developing. Next try his luck, Billy Clark. He exchanged passes with

city fans must have been fearing the worst when Colchester went ahead.

But they always look like turning this match around. The Colchester

keeper was forced into a fine save before the interval. But the

breakthrough did not arrive until 16 minutes from time. Deep into

stoppage time, they just missed this chance. The longer we go without

winning, the pressure becomes more. I thought they handled it really

well. Their attitude and commitment was first class. Rob Page has taken

temporary charge at Port Vale while Micky Adams recovers from a hip

operation. Chris Burchill started. He was sent tumbling. So here's

come back today and showing a lot of character, getting the victory and

Championship. Watford, Nottingham Forest and Reading also scoring

victories. There are five points separating seventh and eighth. The

season eight weeks old, Bolton and Sheffield Wednesday are still

without victories. Leyton orient dropped points for the first time

this season but still remain top of league one. Rotherham dropped out of

the top six. Sheffield United still struggling and now bottom, despite

Notts County losing, they move up one place on goal difference.

Bristol city are the only side yet to taste victory. Chesterfield lost

their unbeaten record to rivals Mansfield. Oxford United scored a

victory but are still four points behind the leaders. Accrington

picked up their second point of the season, Northampton Drew, with York

city and Cheltenham the only winners in the bottom half of the two.
