Evening. It was derby day in the Skybet Football League on Saturday,

with six games providing local bragging rights for the winners, not

to mention two of the top three squaring up in both the Championship

and League Two. Leroy is with me to run the rule over the day's big

winners and losers - and here's a taster of what's coming up... Going

well in the league but yet to record a win at home this season, Derby

County welcomed Reading to Pride Park earlier today. Nigel Adkins'

Royals looking to build on a much-needed late win against Leeds

in midweek. Millwall turned the Championship on its head on Tuesday

with a crucial win over then leaders Blackpool - we have extended

highlights of their South London derby at Charlton. With six goals in

seven games, have Peterborough unearthed yet another goal-scoring

gem in Britt Assambalonga? I'm at London Road for Peterborough's derby

against MK Dons. And as ever, we have all the goals and plenty of

talking points from another hectic day from all three divisions of the

Football League. First to Pride Park then, for a

contest involving two sides expected to be in the mix come the end of the

season, as Derby took on recently-relegated Reading. Nigel

Clough's young team have been particularly impressive on the road,

with some big wins, but were looking to break their duck at home at the

fourth attempt, with Reading suffering just the one defeat in

seven. Commentary from Martin Fisher.

Redding have won on four out of their last five visits here. Derby

have managed just one point and one goal in front of their own

supporters so far this season. Nigel Clough knows that has to change

quickly if his team are to Mount a serious promotion challenge. Craig

Bryson got three against Millwall, one week ago. Redding make five

changes. Reading sitting very deep, as Derby

tried to play their way forward. Russell has gone for the return, and

he has got the shot away, punched away by McCarthy. It almost fell

invitingly for Derby County. Russell, whose confidence should be

very high indeed, having scored a brace against Bolton on Tuesday. He

got the return pass from Forsyth. It was a smart stop from McCarthy. Five

in white in the box. Pogrebnyak clears it, but Ward gets to the

loose ball first. Will Hughes with the shot. The latest in a series of

Reading goalkeeper. Will Hughes has got away from Baird, and that is the

best save yet from Alex McCarthy! That effort from Hughes brought the

best out of him. It was heading for the bottom corner, and it was a

marvellous stop. Reading have gone to sleep here... And a chance at the

back post, and by his reaction, Adam Smith feels he should have got it on

target. From one full-back, very nearly to the other, and very nearly

1-0. Grant cannot get there, and it is

in! Pogrebnyak has scored, his eight-month drought is over. And

Reading go in front just one minute after the restart. From Derby

County's point of view, this is a very, very sloppy goal. The kick was

deep, and nobody in White responded swiftly enough. Buxton could not

keep it out, and the Russian's shot went through the hand of Grant.

Nicely done by Baird, and here is McCleary. Pogrebnyak, 2-0! More

awful defending by Derby. And didn't you just know it, Pogrebnyak,

without a goal for so long, has now scored twice within 15 minutes. It

looked as though the danger had gone, but Graveney act was in

quickly to make the most of that error by Russell.

Smith has lost his man. And arriving is McCleary! That was a very

presentable opportunity, which would have put the game beyond Derby

County. Garath McCleary applauds the quality of the centre. He will want

to forget the quality of his finish. Hughes! And Derby have a goal back.

McCarthy, finally beaten, and a Gollum goal out of absolutely

nothing from 18-year-old Will Hughes. It dropped somewhat

fortuitously for him, and he found just the finish required to bend it

beyond Alex McCarthy. Can Reading hang on, or will Derby comeback to

complete their recovery? Goalkeeper Grant thought about coming for it

and then went home. Blackman is arriving to wrap it up for Reading,

and he has! Nick Blackman ensures that Reading stretch their unbeaten

run to four games. He made up ground terrifically well here. Derby had

pushed plenty of bodies forward. Robson: Was strong, and his Arkley,

after an initial touch which seems to be pushing him away from goal,

recovered admirably to finish. We played well for the majority of

the game today. After they scored We played well for the majority of

Derby are an excellent side. We lost several players through injury. We

have had to utilise the squad, some of the young players, and we have

come with a game plan and it has worked a treat. Pogrebnyak has

scored a couple of goals. What is the problem here? We are conceding

soft goals, look at the goals we are scoring at the moment and they are

soft goals, look at the goals we are extremely goals. Nobody is giving us

anything. They are dealing with the majority of what we are giving them.

The troubles continue at Pride Park and there is no denying that Reading

have won after what was a commanding second-half performance? It was a

good game plan from Reading. They seemed to funnel Derby to where they

wanted to go. They did not get into areas where they could really hurt

Reading on a regular basis. For Nigel Adkins, the fans that Reading

have been asking for a goal-scoring Nigel Adkins, the fans that Reading

many in this division. Let's have a look at how the early front runners

in the Championship got on starting with the leaders QPR, who travelled

to Yeovil. Gary Johnson claimed Joey Barton earned more on his own than

the club and management combine. Fortunately games are not decided by

payslips, or are they? Harry Redknapp has had some testing

trips during his career, this is one he can add to that list. Yeovil went

for his side from the off. Joel Grant but Rob Green at full stretch.

QPR's wage bill is rumoured to be 50 times bigger than that of the

Somerset club, not that you will notice. Liam Davis the next try his

luck as Green came up with the goods once more. The former England keeper

performed more heroics in the second-half as the home side

continued to trouble the Football Leaguemeanest defence. Green refused

to be beaten. Yeovil were looking far from a team that have lost five

of their previous six matches. Davis defied for a second time. Then the

inevitable soccer punch. Charlie Austin, who had been kept in check

for long spells, made a beeline for goal and was blocked off. Gavin

Ward's decision to give the spot kick up the fans in Robert Austin

had its cool -- kept his cool to edge Rangers in front with 15

minutes to go. The leaders were on course to stretch their unbeaten run

to eight matches but Gary Johnson's men refuse to give up the fight. QPR

got their first -- their fifth 1-nil game of the season. We hung in there

and defended for our lives. We were not at our best today, that is for

and defended for our lives. We were sure, but you have to give credit to

Yeovil. They made it a cup tie atmosphere and played like a cup tie

and they were unlucky, very unlucky. Adaptability has been the key for

Blackpool so far. Such is their lack of numbers Chris Basham says he has

played in six different positions this season against Leicester he

turned up on the end of Ricardo Fuller's cross. This towering header

was enough for a first half lead. The Foxes stepped things up after

the break. Jamie Vardy should have put them level from David Nugent's

spot. Vardy was hauled down by Liverpool loanee Jack Robinson.

Konchesky did the business from 12 yards, knocking in the first goal at

Blackpool have conceded at home all season. The Tangerines had a 100%

record at Bloomfield Road before this game but two minutes later a

screamer from Andy King had them on the brink of back-to-back defeats.

neck in the early season promotion race. It is always dangerous to

we have had to settle for one point, where I think once we have

should have had all three. Burnley striker Sam Vokes was back

on familiar territory, once a Leeds loanee he returned to Elland Road

and was soon threatening that United goal. The Clarets impressive winners

in the week carried on where they had left off against Birmingham city

last time out. Trippier's costs finally found a way to through to

Scott Arfield, who at the second attempt made his mark. They held

onto that lead despite the best efforts of Leeds and Luke Vardy in

particular. Tom Heaton with a smart save. The Clarets' second goal came

from Vokes. Paddy Kenny saved the initial header but the striker

followed up with maximum effect. United's response saw Michael Tonge

go agonisingly close. But Leeds were out of luck. They finally got on the

scoresheet when substitute Matt Smith headed home late in

proceedings but it wasn't enough. Austin couldn't quite find an

equaliser. Frustrating times for the Yorkshire club. Leeds have allowed

-- now lost three of their last four league games. Are desperately

frustrating week. Really frustrating, I am glad to see the

back of it. To lose at Reading and 2-nil down in front of our own fans,

we have to keep doing what we have to do. We can't have performances

like today. We had to defend in the end, the last 20 minutes. Leeds is a

tough place to come. They put the big fellow on, Smith got in their

early and scored a goal and it was nervy. We stayed resolute and we

make two important saves. Macheda once helped Manchester

United rescue the title. Four years after exploding onto the scene he is

accept. We need to move on. What we wanted to do today was be brave, we

went with three strikers. We wanted to send a message across to the

players that although Forest are top team, we will try to win the game

and we were close to doing that. The Championship's top scorers

against its leaky as defence. Goals were always on the cards at Oakwell.

There were three in the opening 18 minutes. First the flag stayed down

for Troy Deeney, after Peter Ramage unsuccessfully attempted to play him

offside. The first incidence of what David Flitcroft calls completely

Barnsley. Watford's but -- dwelt on the ball and the Tykes were level.

Barnsley's joy was short-lived. Watford regained the lead moments

later. The Tykes offering to growing resistance as David Faraoni tapped

in. It was the same story at the interval approached. The Hornets

made it 3-1 as Anya found Forestieri the most switched on man in the

sixth of -- in the six yard box. Watford added two more goals in the

second half. Sean Murray found the corner as the Hornets made sure of

their first win at Oakwell in 13 years. Anya made it 5-1, having won

the war on the edge of his own box the Scottish international had the

pace and the composure to score the 22nd goal that Barnsley have let in

this season, the worst record in the whole of the Football League. An

excellent victory. Against a tough pitch, where last year we lost three

points, vital points, so we knew that we were required to play the

match. There is a group of players I have trusted for six or seven months

and they have let us down. They have let us down as a club and is as a

group and I am not in denial. I will not accept complacency, which I have

said from day one. David Croft hardly mincing his words. Watford

break the 100 goal barrier, 104 goals in 54 games he has been in

charge at Vicarage Road. A great statistic. He made five changes for

the game at Oakwell. He got a deserved performance. David

is disappointed with his players but it shows the depth in Watford's

squad and the attacking options. Also they are brilliant away from

home. They are up to 19 goals. They are difficult to play against and it

was always going to be hard for Barnsley. Burnley living up to their

label as the early surprise package in the Championship, up to second

tonight. It is the highest they have been in the Championship. He is

getting terrific consistency from his players, Sean Dyche? It is not a

surprise any more. We expect Burnley to support -- Burnley to perform

like this. He has made two changes in his side and it shows in the

consistency of displays. Sam Vokes got on the scoresheet. I was picked

to see Arfield get on the scoresheet. They have been great

performances this year. David Jones has an injury, it will be

interesting to see how Burnley cope. Credit to Queens Park Rangers, their

lead after a 1-nil-macro when at Oakwell. They came up against Rob

Green, in inspirational form. For Gary, how long does he carry on

talking about bad luck? It must be so dispiriting for him and the

players. It is better than getting thrashed every week. They are

nowhere near that. They are writing games. They could have got something

out of this game. QPR have been strong. They have to keep going. If

you are getting beaten you have to strong. They have to keep going. If

have a performance and he has been getting at. Having suffered a

nightmare start to life at the Den, Millwall boss Steve Lomas celebrated

his first win on Tuesday by impressively ending Blackpool's

unbeaten start to the season. It was the perfect all that going into the

South London derby against Charlton, who have struggled for form.

Charlton made one change as Joe Pigott was given his first league

start. Millwall were unchanged following their win over Paul

hear the boos from the home fans. Millwall are going well in the

Set up beautifully for Martyn Woolford. He had been eyeing his

third goal of the season here. Hamer having to get down to make a

save, that was on target from Liam Trotter. Great lay-off from the

substitute Steve Morison. Good cross, and the defending is good

enough. That was really awkward, he saw that late. The cross was from

Cameron Stewart. The defender gets it out of harm 's way at least for

now. Deep one this time. The referee, not interested in the

claims of the youngster, who was certainly being held by. Beevers

end. It was a routine save for David Forde in the end. Nicely worked by

Millwall. Scott Malone! That was the chance to win the game certainly for

Millwall. Excellent move, the away side bided their time and eventually

got her substitute, Champlow, free, and it really should have been a

goal. If Millwall can escape with a clean sheet here, it is an extra

bonus, but maybe Charlton will have one last opportunity. Cameron

Stewart! And that is a good save by Forde. He has not had too many to

make, but that is his most crucial one. It was just creeping in. That

is a good Very disappointed last weekend and

it was hard to come in, but all credit to the boys, they apologised

in the right way by putting that effort in on Tuesday night, and once

we got that win, we needed to back it up with another performance, and

we have done that. We did not have that spark in the first period,

second-half, we gave a bit more, but games like this, you want to make

sure you stay in it. It was tough for us. Two sides who were desperate

not to lose, but for Millwall, that is some turnaround after no

delighted. It was a scruffy game, won by a scruffy goal. The ball was

lost in midfield, and Millwall did this all the way through. They were

prepared to counterattack. It was unfortunate for Dervite there. But

you look the players who have come back into the fold, they are

absolutely crucial, especially the captain, Paul Robinson. They looked

very strong today. As for Chris Powell's side, it has been a

bitterly disappointing start to the season, after exceeding expectations

last season, I suppose. We counted no more than two shots on target. No

doubt they missed the likes of Yann Kermorgant. They do, they miss his

experience and leadership. The young lad worked hard up front, but it is

tough there at the moment for Chris Powell's side, but they need to get

some tempo going. Maybe they need to start pressing high up the pitch.

Our last look at the Championship starts with Tony Mowbray's

Middlesbrough, who came close to pulling off a shock win at inform

Nottingham Forest in midweek. Could they manage all three points this

time against Bournemouth have never won on

Teeside, but their manager, Eddie Howe, must have thought their luck

was about to change when they raced into a 2-goal lead inside 15

minutes. Both goals came from the penalty spot. Rhys Williams conceded

the first, and Brett Pitman accepted the responsibility. The Cherries had

got their early breakthrough goal. When Lewis Grabban's header was

handled by Frazer Richardson, Bournemouth have the perfect chance

to extend their advantage. Same penalty taker, same outcome, Brett

Pitman had a brace. Rowe's start to this league campaign has been

disappointing. At least Kei Kamara's strike gave them a route

back into the match. Tony Mowbray's team continued their comeback with

an equaliser before the interval. Carayol's deflected shot went in.

Middlesbrough went in front for the first time, 16 minutes from the end.

Grant Leadbitter made the difference, as this high-scoring

affair took another twist. There was later trauma to follow, as the

unfortunate Jonathan Woodgate put through his own net to hand

Bournemouth eight point from their longest trip this season. To make

matters worse for Middlesbrough, they had Williams sent off for a

challenge on Wes Thomas, as the home side finished the game with ten

men. It was an eventful afternoon. Credits to them for coming here and

playing the way they did. Credit to our team for having the character

and drive and desire to come back. The game had everything, great for

the neutral, not so great for it had great quality. Both teams showed

character. With the Championship's two leading marksman on the same

pitch, surely goals were guaranteed. Backbone's Jordan Rhodes is second

only to James Vaughan in the scoring charts. The Huddersfield striker

chipped the paintwork as he looked to move into double figures. The

former Everton front man is always likely to get a chance, especially

with wide men like Adam Hammill on the field.

and the game looked destined to finish goalless. Blackburn's had for

a third successive home win was slipping away. Adam Hammill's clever

back header might have changed the scoreline. We grew into the game. I

am disappointed that we did not take one of the chances that we had. It

was Spanish day in Brighton. Spanish dress, Spanish food and beer and a

Spanish own goal. David Lopez, or Spanish Dave, as he is known to

Brighton fans, joined in the frivolity with this one. Bolton were

already experiencing their worst league start in more than a century.

The Trotters had luck at both ends in the first half. This effort from

Lua Lua hit the woodwork. There are of course so many things that

English foot all could learn from the Spaniards. Jay Spearing was

determined to do just that, levelling matters with an own goal

of his own. That was the first of three Brighton goals in forming its.

put the seagulls ahead with his first goal in almost a year and a

half. It was a morale boosting turnaround for Brighton, who have

had to juggle their resources to cope with a lengthy injury list.

Will Buckley came back into the starting line-up for this one, and

as Bolton's second-half siesta continued, he helped himself to the

pick of the goals. A first win in this for Brighton leaves Bolton

rooted to the foot of the table. We had three tough games this week,

and three great results, and the players deserved this win here in

front of our fans. We are disappointed with the result, it was

a crazy without a win at St Andrews, Birmingham City manager Lee Clark

had indeed a debut to Jesse Lingard, signed on a one-month loan from

Manchester United. The player marked the occasion in style. Chris Guillem

Bauza saved this effort from Chris Burke, but Lingard was following up.

second goal of the game. Lingard was revelling in the limelight. The

player who came through the Old Trafford Academy completed his first

half hat-trick, after being played in by Paul Robinson. The second half

saw him adding to his tally. Birmingham heard an unassailable

lead. Kamil Zayatte headed a consolation goal for Wednesday. For

Jesse Lingard, it was a debut to remember. Four goals on debut does

not happen often - talk me through them, particularly the first one. To

be fair, but obviously, the first one was the best one. The 'keeper

has parried it, and I got my confidence up. Hat-trick in five

minutes, it tells you something. We switched off at vital times again,

and all of a sudden, you can end up chasing the game. It is probably the

worst I have seen us play for a long time. It does not bode well for Dave

Jones and Sheffield Wednesday at the moment, but as debuts go, that has

got to be the best we have seen on the Football League Show.

Outstanding debut. I do not know a lot about him, on loan from

Manchester United, I know he had a good pre-season tour of Asia, but he

has hit the ground running for Birmingham. He looks like a real

prospect. Wednesday, still looking for their first win Dave Jones, over

the summer, did not make wholesale changes. He kept the squad together,

and signed players on longer deals. Is that now coming home to roost? I

just think he wanted that group to develop. At the start of last

season, got quite a few loans in, and I think he wanted a different

approach. This season, they have been in a lot of games. I think he

felt it was only a matter of time before they got three points on the

board, but that was a real shock to the system today, to be out of the

game just after half-time. It was an atrocious performance, it has to be

said. And Bolton, also looking for their first win of the campaign.

last year, Bolton made a sluggish start. This time last season they

were 17th after eight games. They fell just short of the play-offs in

the end. What about this time? That was a great goal from Will Buckley,

but the other goals they are conceding are absolutely appalling.

That will be the real concern for Dougie Freedman, the type of goals

they are conceding. They are avoidable. I think they have only

had one clean sheet in 44 away games, it is absolutely staggering.

If you go away from home not feeling that you can keep a clean sheet,

invariably, you will come away with nothing. To League One, and what you

might call the Peterborough effect, and now, with a reputation for

unearthing all scoring talent, have Posh now unearthed the best yet?

Hoovering up young, hungry, lower league players and polishing them

for financial reward has turned Peterborough United into one of

English foot will's premier talent factories. Craig Mackay Smith sold

to Brighton for £2.5 million, Aaron McClain to Hull City for £1.25

million, Paul Taylor to Ipswich town for £1.5 million. And then there is

their most astute bit of business. Three years ago, Dwight Gayle was

playing for Stansted in the ninth tier of English football, in front

of 20 people. Last weekend he ran out for Crystal Palace at Old

Trafford in front of 75,000, but only after Peterborough had bought

him for £450,000 from Dagenham in bed which in January. They then sold

him six months later in a deal which could we worth an eye watering £8.5

million. What do you reckon about all of this? £25 million. We have

got a good record. Any player that has come here and left, has two say

they have improved. But the latest recruit has broken the mould. After

15 goals in League two on loan at Southend United last season, Peter

borough paid £1.5 million that this player and he has paid them back

with six goals in seven league games and was named the full all league's

Young player of the month. He is only 20, he is a great player. He

wants to learn, improve his game. We, at Peterborough United love to

buy talent from the football league, lower than those and still keep the

club having a few quid out of it. Dagenham have made over £1 million

from us. We are delighted, we help them make more. Your new signing has

friends in high places. Show me this. This is a Real Madrid shirt

and it has been said to you. " to Barry, great signing, West wishes

from Gareth Bale". That seal of approval would receive justification

although the day did not get off to a good start. Peter borough were

reduced to ten men just seven minutes in. The lively atmosphere

was met by a lively start to the game. Just five minutes after the

red card, Posh made light of their numerical disadvantage. They earned

their fifth penalty of the season. MK Dons came into the Derby

in their last eight league games and gave themselves a chance of

extending that run when the substitute pounced with 17 minutes

left. Posh continued their record of not winning any points from winning

positions, despite going down to nine men.

It has been one of those days when the centre forward has had to do

Sunderland will find it difficult. They will be happy to go there and

be happy to have possession. They have a striker in tremendous form.

It is a shame the cup tie is not on a Saturday. Wolves were looking to

respond to the first defeat of the season against Shrewsbury Town.

Graham Turner, it was his first competitive meeting with his former

club since leaving Molineux in March, 1994.

Wolves began this son with a point to prove after the home defeat to

Walsall and they almost had the perfect start. A record crowd for a

league game were treated to plenty of drama, if not goals. Wolves did

not have the monopoly on near misses. This one might go down as

one of the best of the season. It proved a very costly. With just six

north-east would feel a lot longer. We have got something out of the

game that was richly deserved. We made to lapses in that first half

and it cost us goals. The second half, we dominated the game. We put

a decent performance in. Went a goal down, turned it round. The

disappointing thing for our lads is, to turn the game around, and Bristol

Rovers through the kitchen sink at us in the second half. The Torquay

boss had enough goofing around. One win from the opening seven games,

their worst start to a season in four years. But this was the day

they got the breaks. A helping hand to minutes in handed halon ball in

his first goal since signing on loan from Derby. Cheltenham made their

worst campaign for five years. But Torquay could rest up at half time

knowing they have the lead and Ball, two games to his name. Time

for Hawley to take centre stage within five minutes of the restart.

lifting their game. That is something they are going to have to

deal with if they are to move forward. You go to the atmosphere at

Fratton Park, it is laying against them a little bit. We have got to

mention AFC Wimbledon. A great result against Burton in what could

be a good few days for the club? It looks like they are going back to

their old stadium. I used to hate going there and playing against

Wimbledon. It has been a very good week for them. We saw this goal

which may have been an own goal, but there was no doubt about this one.
