Hello, after a truncated fixture list last weekend, the

Skybet Football League returned with a packed programme and the chance

As James Beattie parted company with Accrington Stanley

in the last 36-hours, two new managers have entered

the fold since we were last with you - with Chris Powell and Tony Humes

now the main men in charge at Huddersfield and Colchester.

Widely tipped for a season of struggle,

Charlton have been a revelation under new manager, Bob Peeters.

We'll find out how they got on against Watford,

Leeds are adjusting to life under new owner Massimo Cellino,

and they were at St Andrews for Saturday's early kick

We've the best of the action from an eight-goal thriller

in League One as Barnsley went toe to toe with MK Dons at Oakwell.

They may have got off to a flier, but a month in

and Watford are already onto their second manager of the new season.

Oscar Garcia replaced Beppe Sannino where an opening win would see them

The former Brighton boss marked his return to the Championship with

a trip to Charlton, who've also impressed under

A big crowd at the Valley this afternoon for this meeting of two

top six sides, Charlton unbeaten in the Championship. Watford will be

hoping Garcia can guide the Hornets to their fifth league victory out of

six this season. Vydra replaced Forestieri. Keith

late Charlton striker who sadly died this week, aged 43. He scored 35

goals in 106 appearances for Charlton between 1992 and 1997.

Watford players tells you all you need to know. It was set up so

nicely for Anya. Got it all wrong. I'm happy today that we held on, in

Brighton. We gave it away last-minute in injury-time. Today,

we had a great crowd. A lot of people who backed us up. It's a

massive result. We are very happy. OK, we need to enjoy it now for a

few hours, me as manager, then focus on Tuesday. We had much more

possession. If you have possession and don't create chances it's for

nothing. We had 15 shots at target and then it wasn't our day in front

of goal. I'm sure on another day we would have been comfortable winners.

Hard to disagree. His first game in charge of Watford. Charlton, their

flying start to the new season continues. They had to ride their

luck at times. What did you think? They earn it. They worked hard

enough, when they didn't have the ball. 14-shots on goal compared to

four from Charlton. The stats bear that out what Garcia said. They did

dominate much they dominated chances as Penalty incidents in well. The

game. What was your reading of both of them? I think they were both

penalties. This first one, Vetokele goes over Gomes's arm. He has every

right to go over there. Puts his arm out. Sweep of his arm. Why should he

jump over it if it's in the box. He is going to go down. A good penalty.

20 minutes later Watford had a shout as well? It doesn't look like there

is hardly any contact at all. From behind, you can tell Ben-Haim there,

he makes the contact. Dean Iy goes down. It look as if there is enough

there to say he has a case for a penalty. Watford went into the

weekend top-scorers in the Championship. Scored 13 goals in

their five league games they seem to have left their goalscoring boots at

home this time round. You score a plethora of goals in other games and

you just want one. From their perspective, if you look at it, they

are creating chances. That is what they will take from this game. The

performance was excellent. Albeit the result wasn't what they wanted.

They had chances. No doubt about that. At times, goal keeping, a

little bit of luck. Even when they do put it in the back of the net,

it's offside. It was the correct decision as well. Encouragement for

Garcia. How have Charlton surprised you? They believe in what they are

doing. The sign of a good manager is not winning every game and winning

the league. It's getting the best out of what you have. No-one can

argue that Bob is doing that. As Leeds continue to mull over

Dave Hockaday's successor at Elland Road, caretaker boss,

Neil Redfearn, once again took his place in the dug-out for Saturday's

early kick off at Birmingham City. Lee Clark made five changes

including a debut for American midfielder Brek Shea, on loan

from Stoke, while two changes for Leeds, including a league debut

for full-back Gaetano Berardi. COMMENTATOR: Kept in well by

Donaldson. Plenty of room now for Shea. He goes for goal. Stings the

hands of Silvestri. A confident start for the Birmingham debutant,

Brett Shea. Good work from Shea. It's an awkward header. Flashes just

wide off the head of Bellusci. His heart must have been in his mouth

there. He reads this horribly. This is Brett Shea. Thomas.

Thomas. A goal for Birmingham. Superbly despatched by Wes Thomas.

helpless Silvestri. Poorer squandering of possession

gets his first goal of the season. Poor header from Neal Ardley. He

really should have been clearing the penalty area better. He beats the

ground in frustration. 1-1. Neil Redfearn will be heartened by the

second half performance. As we move into closer to the full-time

whistle. That was a brilliant run. Any

contact? No. There is going to be a yellow card here. The Birmingham

captain is certain it should have been a penalty. Gray looks a bit

sheepish. Lovely run. He was trying to invite the challenge. The

defender took his leg away. The referee has called that perfectly.

Another dynamic run! Big save from Silvestri! What an exciting player

Gray looks. So positive. Cutting a swathe through the Leeds United

defence. Silvestri saves the away side there.

Await come Birmingham. -- away. Edgar is in the box. There was the

chance to win it for Birmingham City. And Wes Thomas at the far post

cannot deliver. The break is on for a Leeds United.

Can they stay lit? Austin! Denied by Randolph. A dramatic finish at St

Andrews. Beyond the three extra minutes. It

is all over. It is finished 1-1. Should you have had a penalty late

on? Without a doubt. I have seen it again. I know the boy. He does not

divert any time. The senior players tackle him hard at training. He

stays on his feet. The defender got no touch. The defender has left his

leg dangling. The only way my lad can get out of the way without

touching the players is if he was ten foot. Do you want the job? I

think the best way to do it all along is that I am helping him out.

There is no pressure on me. I am trying to do the best for the club.

And for the players. The players have been Britain's. -- brilliant. I

don't need to give an answer either way. It is not at that point yet.

1-1 about right? Probably Birmingham might have just nicked it. I like

what Neil Redfearn is saying. About how they have responded to what he

is asked. Decent on both accounts. Neil Redfearn agreed with Lee Clark

about the penalty. Yes, he does put his leg out. But when Gray goes

alongside him, he pulls it back in. Look at the reaction of the player.

He pulls his leg back in at the last minute. It is not a penalty. Gray

has done over his leg. Look at the reaction of Gray. Quite sheepish.

Set on the ground. If that had been me and I had a legitimate penalty

goal, I would be remonstrating. He doesn't. He sheepishly gets up,

takes is booking. Plaudits for the referee? I think he gets it right. I

will be unpopular with both managers! Both really good finishes?

They work. Great first touch. The awareness. His awareness of taking

it and lifting the ball at the far post. This has got a little bit to

do with Neal Ardley's header. Unfortunately he compounds the issue

by trying to make the challenge. It was a good finish from the young

man. Well done to Alex Mowatt. Four points under Neil Redfearn. It looks

like he is going to be taking charge against Bournemouth on Tuesday. Look

at the people linked with the job. Robbie Fowler, Jimmy Floyd

Hasselbaink, James Beattie. Are these the kind of players you would

expect -- candidates? I would imagine when you go to a club like

Leeds, it is a huge club, I would imagine you would have had to have

done at least one or two jobs before this. It is a huge leap of faith to

employ somebody who has never been manager of a club at that size.

Another bizarre few days at Blackpool. Owner and chairman Carl

Royston was unsuccessful in his pursuit of a potential new manager.

That despite the small fact that Jose Riga was still in the hot seat.

Maybe he was trying to make a point. Could they get their first against

Wolves? It has been a torrid start for their fans. I just think the

manager and chairman should get together so people know what is

happening. I think it is not ethical to be interviewing other managers

while there is still a manager in situ. He deserves it. We have not

won a game under him but it is not his fault. He has not had the

backing. I would keep Jose Riga. He is capable of keeping us up. He is

the right man. Maybe this is what they meant by being thrown to the

Wolves. Jose Riga is getting plenty of support from the terraces. His

players are rallying around him, too. Joe Lewis pulling out all the

stops to deny Jacobs. Wolves could have gone top if they won, could

have gone ahead before half-time. That same goal frame would prevent

Blackpool from ending a run of six straight defeats in the best

possible way. Ranger was thwarted. If Carl Royston was trying to make a

point with his actions this week, perhaps the manager has made his.

I can only say one thing. In around 25 years of coaching, I have

received no one single remark about my professionalism. Even today I

proved I am a total professional. That is the only thing I can say.

This was the quintessential game of two halves. Cardiff were cruising at

the break. Joe Ralls steering the Bluebirds into the lead. Ole Gunnar

Solskjaer said the first 45 minutes were the best he has seen from his

side this season. Gunnarson applied a crisp finish for the second. It

may have continued to be a good day for Cardiff have they made it three

straight after the break. But John Ruddy's save proved critical. Neil

Adams admits he gave his players a rocket at half-time. Martin Olsson

fired them back into the match. Cardiff came from behind to win the

Premier League game last season between the sides. The Canaries to

the tide on this occasion. David Marshall did well to keep that

Cameron Jerome but Wes Hoolahan mopped up the rebound. Next, a

commendation of quick Norwich thinking and sleepy Cardiff

defending, Allied Michael Turner to get the final touch after some good

work from Alex Tettey. While there had been plenty of attention on the

former Canaries now at Cardiff, it was a former Bluebird who had the

final word as Jerome charged through late on to condemn the hosts to only

their second defeat of the season. We wanted to make sure that we

started the second half brightly and we did. We had a fantastic chance.

Great save. Football changes quickly. The pleasing thing is how

they roll their sleeves up and put it right, basically. That was down

to them. After a bright start to the season,

and unbeaten on the road since March, Millwall were confident of a

result at Portman Road. While they dominated early on, they had nothing

to show for it. The away side should have taken the lead. Easter hit the

post. That was the turning point. Ipswich grew into the game. David

Ford was forced into action by Daryl Murphy. Without a win in five league

and cup games, Ipswich Town will be glad they stayed strong in the face

of Premier League bids for David McGoldrick. He broke the deadlock, a

deflected strike from the ?8 million rated striker. They doubled the lead

just after the hour. They scrambled goal from Murphy ended Millwall's

resistance. After the game, Ian Holloway expressed concern at how

his side lost belief. Scott McDonald brought a save out of the

goalkeeper. There was nothing to stop Ipswich from claiming their

first win since the opening day. I don't know if it is a good or bad

time to score. But it certainly changes the dynamic of the dressing

room. It made my half-time team talk easier. I spoke at half-time, trying

to muster the troops. Unfortunately today that was one of them.

Sami Hyypia's latest business was to secure the future of one of the

players he inherited, adding an extra year to Andrew Croft's

contract. He came within inches of scoring the opener. Judge's pass

picked out to Bascio, who is could not have been better place. First

blood, Brentford. Other Bascio. A wayward throw led to the

goalkeeper atoning for his mistake by blocking out Andre Gray. The home

side were on top. They got their second goal just at -- just after

the half hour. Gray the scorer. Brighton were not finished. Back in

business through Gordon Greer. Sami Hyypia's attacking approach is

making for some thrilling matches as some of the team's defending has the

former Liverpool player tearing his hair out. Jonathan Douglas restored

Brentford's two question. -- two goal cushion. Danny Hollick kept

Albion in contention. They could not avoid a first defeat in four league

matches. -- fourth. Great game for the

neutral. Not so good for the coaching staff. A welcome three

points. It was a very open match. Two teams who want to dominate the

football. A great way for Brentford to register their first home win.

Fantastic, keeping the momentum going from last season. They have

made some signings who have hit the ground running. Looks good.

What has been going on at Blackpool, the chairman is pursuing another

manager, when help has a manager already in the job over at

Bloomfield Road. Strange. Almost as if there was a break down in

relations even as they shook hands and then fell out, sort of thing.

This situation has gone on, it seems like forever and a day. Six games

into the season. Still not... There is still no form of communication or

relationship there between the two of them. It's a really difficult

situation that needs resolving. Certainly not in the way that they

are going about it. Huge credit to the manager and the players to pick

up their first point of the season against Wolves. Amazing come back

from Norwich at Cardiff. Three or four weeks ago I remember you saying

you were impressed by Norwich. The early signs look good for Neil

Adams. You must be surprised with the way they turned it on in the

second-half? I said at half-time, I will have to eat my words. Cardiff

were 2-0 up and cruising. Norwich turned it around. 25 shots on goal

in this game. Away from home? Away from home. Against one of the top

sides in that division dchlt shows what they are capable of. Jerome, we

know what a threat he can be at this level. As I said, whoever finishes

above them I don't think they will be far away. They are my tip at this

stage. They would be my dip tip for that division. Jerome a good

addition? Played a huge part. Massive team player. Carrying that

on. As for the rest of the Championship,

with just one point from their opening five games,

it's been another disappointing start to the campaign for

Dougie Freedman at Bolton. Their latest quest for three

points was a home game against a COMMENTATOR: time to see if the two

week break had done Bolton any good, still without a win the patience of

the locals are being tested. Sheffield Wednesday arrived looking

to add to their misery. Mills raced to the rescue to prevent McGuire

from giving Wednesday the lead before the Scot wasted a second

chance. Three of Wednesday's four wince came away from Hillsborough.

Mattock went close. Despite six changes to the team that lost at

Leeds, they rarely threatened when they did, Spearing failed to test

Westwood. The Owls had 24 attempts on goal, four were on target.

Palmer's effort was hit sweetly enough, longer began was equal to

it. The lack of ruthless streak cost them three points. This shot headed

off the line. We played them off the park. Could have been more ruthless

in goal. We had several good chances to get our noses in frond. It's two

points dropped. After a forgettable first half the action picked up

early on in the second period on the South Coast. Bourne moth boss Eddie

Howel praised the partnership between Kermorgant and Wilson, they

would have produced the opening goal had Wilson not got his foot work

wrong. He had a chance to make amends minutes later. After showing

pace and touch he couldn't get his sixth of the season. Cook got his

second goal in three league games when he connected with Ritchie's

cross. Goals have been a problem for Rotherham. They travelled to

Bournemouth with two in the Championship all season. The fewest

in the division. Revell came close to improving that total. Before an

unlikely source did add another into their account. Bowery's header was

his first goal since 2012. The headlines were nearly snatched away

from him by Surman with a deadline day signing for Norwich forcing

Collin into a save. It was going to be a difficult game. We expected

that. Rotherham made it difficult for us. When we got our noses in

front you would expect us to win the game. Blackburn are among the early

season pace-setters. McManaman fell over the outstretched leg of

Baptiste, a penalty for Wigan. Ramis was wasteful from the spot. The

Latics might have taken the lead into half-time. McManaman again,

this time forcing a save out of Paul Robinson. Wigan got their rewards

six minutes into the second-half. Perch got his first league goal for

the club, thanks in part to this flick. Blackburn are difficult to

beat at home and wiped out the Wigan lead within moments. Ben Marshall

got his first goal of the season. A third goal in five minutes followed

from a disputed free-kick. Rhodes was on target from Conway's

delivery. Suddenly, Rovers were heading for a ninth consecutive game

unbeaten at Ewood Park with Marshall very much the star of the show.

Wigan were soon being overrun. Only Carson kept the score down. Varney

denied by the goalkeeper's studs. The third goal was on the way.

Marshall capping his memorable display with a goal hailed by his

manager of being of Premier League quality. He's got fabulous

technique. He can do that. Fortunately for us today, he scored

two and I think Carson made an outstanding save. We have encouraged

him to do that. That should give him a massive boost. Two strikers took

their bow and both ebb would yous were memorable. Murray's for the

right reasons. On-loan from Crystal Palace it took him 15 minutes to

find the net. Smith made his mark. The referee went straight for the

red card. Who would have thought Fulham's bad start to the season

could get even worse. David forced Federici to go full length as they

reacted to the Earl early setbacks. The Royals reasserted their

authority. Well on top in the second-half. Cox allowing for this

sharp stop. The keeper's reflexes were undiminished at the age of 38.

Murray made himself an instant Reading hear e. Wary of pushing the

striker too hard after a long time without regular football he was

subed before compleepg a hat-trick. Pogrebnyak close to scoring himself.

Blackman scored Fulham's fifth defeat in six winless matches, five

minutes from time. The travelling fans called for the manager's

dismissal. A return to work for one of football's most likeable

characters. Chris Powell receiving a Yorkshire welcome on the first day

in the hotseat. Butterfield was up for the challenge keeping

Konstantopoulos on his toes. 3,000 Teessiders were left with all smiles

after Leadbitter's goal. Clayton should have made a name for himself

on his return to his old stomping ground. Four minutes from the end,

Huddersfield were level. Stead on as a first half sub for the injured

James Vaughan appeared to have quaranteed his boss a point. Tommy

Smith sent K reach sprawling in the box. Having put away three penalties

already this season, there was only one man for the job. Leadbitter

holding his nerve to get his sixth goal in League and Cup to spoil

Powell's day. I learnt a lot about my players, not only today, in the

week I have had them. They care. They want to do well. It has been a

tough time for us. The game today we worked hard to get back in it

against a good Middlesbrough side. It was justs disappointing the way

it ended much we shouldn't have done that. It was a mistake that really

shouldn't have happened. Losing start for Powell at Huddersfield

with Leadbitter getting those two goals. Reading against Fulham,

reading a debut to remember with Glenn Murray not so for Smith at

Fulham. Good to see Glenn amongst the goals. You think about the year

he has had, injury wise. He has a track record at this level. We know

that. A fantastic acquisition. Fulham are winless after six games.

One point from a possible 18 in the new season for the side that is seen

as one of the favourites for promotion. At one point, without

being over dramatic, does it become a crisis? I think it's probably a

crisis now. As you say, you carry on in that vain another six or seven

games and the season will be written off with regard of getting out of

the division. I would imagine things are that bad they are not looking at

that this stage, they are looking at staying in the division. It's not

been great since he has been at the club. I remember him saying we will

stay up, they didn't. Two weeks ago he said they would get promoted. It

looks unlikely. Not sure of the direction and entirely sure what is

going on at the football club. Whatever it is, it has to change

very quickly. Bottom of the Championship. Blackpool are there in

disarray. Bolton above them. No win in six as well. They may have got

their first clean sheet of the season against Sheffield Wednesday.

Bogdan has been ruled out for six more weeks fracturing a finger in

training. Everything is going against them, isn't it? Yeah. I

mean, it's just not happened, has it? We talk about a last, I don't

know, 18-months, they have he have a good squad, spent money coming out

of the Premiership to get back up. It didn't happen. Throw are into the

equation the financial problems they have. Yes. This is hard work for

Bolton at this stage. Lancashire Derby there between Blackburn and

Wigan. Quite a statement 3-1 winners at home against one of your

promotion rivals this time lead by Ben Marshall. We know about the

potential that Ben has? He is a good player. Bearing the fruit that we

saw in previous years, consistent look to his game now. Also, I think

a staple of intent with regard to keeping Jordan Rhodes that gives you

an indication of how the manager and the owner are now as one. The

manager - Unity? We need to keep this player. The owners have gone,

yes, in previous times, if previous managers have gone like that, they

would go - no we are getting rid of them. It's an upward curve for them.

That is good for them. To League One now and Peterborough's

win at home to Port Vale last week meant the Posh started

the day top of the table. Next up for them, the visit of

Notts County to London Road. Frustrated rather than disapointed.

It it could have been worsement on another day Noble's shot might have

crept in. Peterborough had won five out of six in League One. They

couldn't find a way pass Alnwick. Bristol City replaced Peterborough

at the top of the table after cruising to a third straight win

they were giving more than a helping hand by the Doncaster defence.

Wilbraham got his fifth goal of the season. Rovers wasted numerous

opportunities to get the ball away. They almost paid the price for

failing to clear their lines again. Brian came within inches of doubling

the Robins' lead -- Bryan. They didn't have too longer to wait for

the second goal to arrive. Lovely linkup play. It looked like the move

would come to nothing when Wilbraham didn't connect with the cross.

Little scored. There was little chance for Rovers when they lost

Forrester after half-time. Booked early on for diving his kick in

anger proved extremely Costly. Forrester apologised to his

team-mates after the game. His manager called his actions "silly

and unprofessional." The manager was unhappy with all of the goals his

side conceded. Their final act of self destruction coming eight

minutes from time. Bryan got possession and he teed up Agard who

bagged his first goal for the Robins since joining from Rotherham over

the summer. I'd rather be at the top of the table than the

bottom-of-the-table. If someone says you are up there to be shot at, I am

anticipate not really too bothered about that. I would be rather be at

there to be shot at. When you are bottom of the league everybody wants

to shoot at you as Crawley boss John Gregory promised

better after the humiliation at Rochdale. But people still covered

their eyes when Fleetwood attacked. But Fleetwood's early-season

momentum has stalled. They have not won since early August and slipped

to a third consecutive defeat courtesy of a beauty from the cloud.

-- McLeod. Barnsley were defending a five-game

unbeaten run. Goals galore at Oakwell. The home side conceded.

Afobe took his tally to four in three for MK Dons. They had

established a comfortable cushioned by the interval. They are improving

all the time. A club that have embarrassed Manchester United were

once again illustrating their potential. The goal-scorer was

involved in their third, another well worked effort. Alli finished

off the move. He looks a fine prospect. Manager Karl Robinson

introduced will Grigg to the fray. And a fourth followed. Grigg claimed

it. The Tykes again caught out at the back. They looked to be heading

for a damaging defeat. Another substitute, then Reeves, added two

bars the's problems with a fifth of the afternoon. The art of

goal-scoring appeared all too easy. A comeback looked unlikely. There

was to be late drama. The MK Dons have kept four consecutive clean

sheets. That was about to change. Horan scored twice, and both were

special efforts. -- Hourihane. This strike brought it back to 5-2. They

scored a third in stoppage time. No shortage of entertainment in this

high-scoring affair. Cole completed the scoring. Barnsley have been left

with too much to do. Bradford are on a rotten one in

front of their own fans. Against Swindon they were grateful for the

third minute penalty. The goalkeeper bringing Darren Clarke. But still

Bradford's luck was out. Fotheringham pulled off a fantastic

save. The Bantams were unbowed. They took the lead seven minutes later.

An enterprising run and cross from Mark Yates saw Louis Thompson put

through his own net. Bradford's problems from set pieces cost them

this game. Two goals from Obika turned the game on its head.

Bradford were far better value going forward but found Fotheringham in

superb form. This save ensured a third straight league defeat at

home. The first under the reign of Phil Parkinson. It all proved too

much for Sheehan, who was sent off at injury time. Parkinson later

called his loss of discipline unacceptable.

Russ Wilcox's half-time team talk out the desired effect, with

Scunthorpe taking the lead 29 seconds after the break. Mad and

finished off the move. Chesterfield had a glorious chance to level if

and, which allowed him to rectify matters from the spot. These two

promoted together last season, but look leagues apart this time around.

The icing on the Chesterfield cake was provided by Morsy with a couple

of minutes left. Again it involved a lovely pass from Johnston. Morsy's

finish was not too bad either. Credit to Chesterfield, they took

their chances. We have got to be better than that. We have got to

manage periods of games better. We crumbled and fell apart of it. Very

a campaign for 109 years. 3-0 winners over Doncaster, including

one of the more bizarre goals we have featured on the programme.

Doncaster did themselves no favours. This was a very strange goal he was

waiting for the keeper to pick it up. Mark Little nips in. They all

stood around looking at each other wondering what happened. No wonder

Paul Dickov was fuming. It has taken Bristol City seven games to get the

same number of points. It is a good squad. Anybody who can take a player

from another team that got 26 goals last year, says this is the club

that can punch its weight both wage wise and size wise. They have got a

good squad. The manager will be reasonably confident they can have a

good year. There is one manager toasting a fine victory tonight, it

has got to be Karl Robinson. Five goals away from home. Five different

goal-scorers, including a couple of substitutes. They have thread all of

the pitch. I watched them early in this season and I watched them

against Manchester United. I said to Karl Robinson afterwards that they

looked more of a threat going forward this year. He said, yes.

They have added in that area of the pitch. Everybody is sharing the

load. They have got a threat all over. Barnsley got three goals. You

get a feeling they took their foot off the Gas. He likes to play, he

likes to get the ball down. They will give you a chance occasionally.

They will make chances the other end. More from League One. Walsall

were looking for a first win of the season at home to Preston.

Walsall have not won at home in the league since March and must have

feared the worst when Preston rolled into town. Fortunately for them,

Sawyers that other ideas. Joe Garner equalised. It was a belter. But the

home side were not to be denied. Ford seems to have the freedom of

Walsall the 14th of Tom Bradshaw for a clinical finish just after

half-time. Preston's frustration boiled over in the 69th minute.

There appeared to be a headboard. The referee was in no doubt. He

produced a straight red card. The home side made the most of their

advantage. Dollar Bing icing on the cake when Paul Downing rounded off a

priceless win. Having made a winning return to the

Ricoh Arena, Coventry went in search of back-to-back home wins. They went

ahead through a Jim O'Brien corner. The Sky Blues have the initiative.

O'Brien can count himself unfortunate not to strengthen their

hold on the matter. The ball cannoned back off the bar. Smith,

who had scored his first goal at Bradford a week earlier, almost

repeated the feat here. They levelled when Sam Foley reacted

quickest to a perfectly weighted through ball. There was the prospect

of a point from their Midlands visit. But it was not to be. Frank

knew Blake could not find a way past the visiting keeper. But Simeon

Jackson could. He had been among the substitutes. He ensured Coventry's

unbeaten record stretched to seven games.

A triumph of sorts for Gillingham, their first point away from home

this season. It may have been all three. McDonald's shot was saved at

point-blank range. Without their top scorer, old lacked presence. Morgan

Smith missed this one. After comfortable wins in their last

two away games, Rochdale would have arrived with a spring in their step.

Henderson's wonderful effort must have them on course for another

enjoyable road trip. Instead Sheffield United snatched the lead

on to make it three wins out of four. Campbell-Ryce's industry and a

hefty deflection off Stephen Dawson saw the ball looped beyond Logan

with six minutes remaining. When you are enduring your worst

start for 63 years, the last thing you need is to be down to ten men at

the end of the first half. But that is what Colchester faced when

Okuonghae got a straight red. But backs against the wall seemed to

bring the best out of them. They got their reward when Sanchez Watt put

them in front. Leyton Orient boss Russell Slade admitted if they lose

at Notts County on Tuesday, his job is on the line. Sears rounded off

Colchester's first win of the campaign.

Crewe Alexandra had yet to pick up a single league point. Manager Steve

Davis was feeling the pressure. Their worst start in 33 years.

George Ray made the most of some poor defending to put them in

command. Port Vale have struggled on their travels for some time. They

conceded a second. Oliver was the scorer. It looked a long way back

from Micky Adams's team. Their consolation came from the penalty

spot. Ray impeded Slew. And Slew scored for a second consecutive

game. It was not enough. Port Vale's form is cause for concern.

A derby day win for Crewe Alexandra. Their season is up and

running. Some optimism as Welford Colchester. Some turnaround under

new manager Tony humans after four consecutive defeats. Yes.

Absolutely. He has been promoted, same sort of thing as Joe Dunne was

previously. You have got to make sure that you are tough to play

against and do not concede too many goals. Give yourself a chance. They

have two players of front who are capable of winning new matches.

There has been a summer takeover at Leyton Orient. One win in 64 Russell

Slade. -- one win in six 4 Russell Slade. He has been told he has one

game to sort it out otherwise he will be sacked. He made some

big-name signings during the summer. Six or seven came in January

as well for that pushed to see if they could see it through last

season. He has been very active in the transfer market. With that comes

pressure and expectation. And when you don't repeat what you did the

previous season, with what is perceived as a better squad, all of

a sudden people start to question, what is happening? It is a stark

reminder of how harsh football can be at times. It certainly puts the

pressure on. He will have two pull it out of the bag against the club

he started his managerial career at, Notts County. Coventry City have two

wins out of two. Steven Pressley signed a new deal in eight days ago.

Is it all coming together for a serious promotion push? You would

like to think this is the beginning of the end and the start of

something fresh and new, something really good happening at that

football club. It has been in the doldrums for a long time. I remember

the last time they got in the situation under Mark Robins. They

were six or seven. Then they bowed out towards the end because

financially they imploded. I do not think it will happen this time. They

will be a match for anyone. To League Two. Exeter City and Oxford

United were occupying the bottom. They suffered miserable starts to

the season. Claim takes up the story.

As peaks and troughs in football go, Exeter City have had more than their

fair share in recent months. Support-owned, forced to live within

their means, they spent most of the season under a transfer embargo. The

opening campaign of the game had to reregister their manager for bench

duty. They played three friendlies in Brazil to commemorate providing

the opposition for the country's first ever international match back

in 1914. Two of the clubs academy starlets joined the under-21 squad.

The Football League's longest-serving manager started his

ninth season in charge, which is six times longer than English football's

current average tenure. I have to say aring you excelled -- you

excelled yourself today. It has been an unusual summer. We finished the

season. 10 players moved on much we didn't sign anybody because of the

embargo. Embargo through cash flow not bad business. We went to Brazil.

Football fantastic. We came back with four or five players seriously

ill. Signed two players in August. We started the season very badly.

It's amazing who you meet at the football. Exeter City I would never

have put it together. Explain? I moved down here about 22 years ago.

Am I used to support Chelsea. I saw Exeter as a joke team. They were

going to get knocked out of the League One year. I came to watch it

I thought, last game of the year, nice to see them kicked out. I

couldn't get in. I was watching from outside, stood on a shopping

trolley. It was just exciting. We don't have cheats. We don't have any

cheats. Not rich people falling over for money here. Proper footballers

who like to play the game. A great manager in Paul who instills that

into them. We haven't got a lot here. We don't own our stadium or

training ground. We have a lot of good people. Over the course of time

that stands you in good stead. There will be highs and lows. It will take

a while to reshape teams. Well documented our youngsters coming

through, two or three exceptional ones, more behind them. Our fans

have to be patient. I had a season ticket at Chelsea for 1 o 0 years.

-- 10 years, this is five times as much fun. Without comparison. As

much as it feels pretty miserable to be lying bottom of the League we are

in September, a long season ahead, we have to be patient. I'm sure we

will do what is necessary. COMMENTATOR: The long wait for a

first win of the season goes on he must have thought this would be his

day. Long in the Oxford goal brought down Nicholls. Cummins gave them the

goal. The club needed to rediscover a scoring touch, and soon am they

were unable to protect a slender lead. This run and cross was made by

O'Dowd ya, a first senior goal for the player. Bennett's header stayed

out. Sercombe had two attempts with the same outcome as the scoreline

stayed the same. There was a scare for them as Neuville's flick on

allowed Mullins a sight of goal. There would be no way through. --

Nuhiu. Is the only disappointing aspect of that that you didn't get

your first win of the season? I think it was. We did enough to give

ourselves a good chance of winning. I won't say we should have won there

is an element of respect to the opposition. We played really well.

I'm looking at this at the long-term if we play like that every week we

won't go too far wrong. Exeter and Oxford looking for their first

victories of the season. Nine years, for any manager to be in that club

for that range of time. Success in the first few years. His time there

has maybe stagnated? I mean, it plateaued off, no doubt about that.

It coincided with obviously the supporters club taking over. When

you haven't got the one man who will pump money into your football club

sometimes things have to wait that other clubs might not wait. That

means you might lose out on players the transfer embargo in place

because of a cash flow problem. You are second in the queue. Sometimes

that can cost you. Of course the location of the club means there are

so many challengers about? If you are going to sign a player,

sometimes you can be in a football club that is logistically placed in

an area where there are other clubs around. You can sign someone from

another club they don't have to move. I mean... More so than

anything, when you sign someone at Exeter it's a life change, not just

a football change. Yeah. As for the rest of League Two,

could there be something special Having missed out on promotion last

season, they?ve won five This week, they were further boosted

by the news that manager Gary Rowett The leaders were up against

York City. COMMENTATOR: Burton had the inside

track on York. Luke very nearly did dad no favours. Albion began to

impose themselves. Ingham's punch dropping to Mousinho. Burton found

their rhythm. After the break the home team took control. This shot

was blocked, nothing would stop Akins. It wasn't going to be

McGurk's afternoon. Beavon was desperately unlucky. York's unbeaten

league run of 23 matches, not including the play-offs, was in

jeopardy. Mousinho rammed home the message that nothing is going to

break Albion's stride. We knew it would be a difficult game. The team

hasn't lost for 23 games to do what we did against them shows how potent

we can be when we play well. When we do the right things much I thought

there were lots of excellent performances again. High flyers

Cheltenham were punished for a sluggish start. Cullen's header was

the tonic for a team who had lost their last two. Their resolve was

put to the test in the second-half. Cheltenham pushed hard for an I

kwauliser. Tyler dealt with this drive before having his palms warmed

by Marquis as Cheltenham lost in the league for the first time. We did

everything but score. Chances went across the box. We have been about

hard work and team work. I'm really pleased with what I have seen after

seven games. We will bounce back. Morecambe haven't lost at home in

the League since April thanks in large part to the ruthless

efficiency of Kevin Ellison who pounced while Plymouth pondered for

goal enough five. 5-0 was the score when they met in March. Hartley

popped up with a magnificent header. More came had the last word thanks

to a late goal. It came seven-minutes from time. It involved

top-scorer Ellison, who this time made the opening for Jamie Devitt.

That was job done and more came are now up to second. The three changes

to the Shrewsbury side included a recall for Akpa-Akpro. The intention

was for him to bury opportunities like that. These sides filled the

bottom two places at the bottom of League One at the end of last term.

The visitors could have been on terms before the break. Akpa-Akpro

made a good connection but Beasant was down charmly. Boro had their

third league win through Charles goal. Mansfield ended a run of three

straight defeats with victory at Exeter and were quickly into their

stride Bingham provided an early threat. Rhead headed home the opener

so much space for him to make his mark. Wickham have struggled to

score at home. When Reilly was penalised for handball, they had a

chance to alter that. Riley was yellow carded. It was left for Paul

Hayes to bring Wickham level. The match was back in the balance. Only

a miss prevented the home side from taking the lead. They were found

wanting. It didn't matter. Peter Murphy proved the match winner for

the Chair Boys. There are some encouraging signs at the club.

Mansfield are a physical side they will cause problems and will pick up

points this season playing that well. It's hard sometimes to not get

drawn into a game like that. We want to get the ball down and play a bit

of stuff. I'm pleased the boys took their chances. We created the better

chances today. Carlisle have had 70 applicants for their managers job.

The challenge the new boss will face is growing. When Mark Gillespie was

outjumped by Danny Rose his fifth goal of the season. A scoring streak

that helped them put through a six game unbeaten run, including four

victories. Jones scored and Bury looked secure. The Shakers stepped

up into the automatic promotion places thanks to a convincing

scoreline. Victory topped off with a flourish by Ryan Lowe, leaving

Carlisle rock bottom. By taking a bolder approach this

season, Edjenguele believed his Newport side would see the benefits.

Their opening to this game showed he might be right. Zebroski gave them

the lead against Northampton. After losing their first four matches in

League and Cup, they are getting it together. Passed the half-hour they

increased their lead. Jones crashed in their second via Cresswell's

heavy deflection. After back-to-back wins without conceding Northampton

were in trouble when Minshull scored early in the second-half. Wilder

felt his side were second best in almost every department. D'Ath

reduced the arrears with a beauty. They had a mountain to climb be.

They began throwing the bodies forward. Richards was teed up. 3-2

with five minutes left to play. Newport got their first home win.

Looking at it again, Northampton had nothing to lose and threw bodies

forward and got a couple of goals back. I think we were worthy of the

win today. Without a win in their last five matches, Southend were

lucky to survive a scare when Shorey beat almost everyone except Bentley.

Corr headed the home side in south. Coulthirst was a spectator until

three minutes from the end. He came off the bench to score a super

individual effort. It condemned Pompey to a third League defeat and

send Southend home happy. Our fans, when they are behind the team, the

players respond. We did today. A strong, manful performance. A worthy

win. We didn't do well enough second-half. When the goal goes in,

we haven't defended the set-piece well enough in the first instance.

Once the goal goes in we haven't recovered well enough after that.

This was the first football league meeting between these teams and they

served up a pulsating contest. Seven minutes later a corner was met by

Michael Nelson. The former Hibs men with his first goal for his new

club. Richard Money's squad may be made by injury but they seized

control of this game. Bird came off the bench and the goalkeeper had to

be at his best to block his acrobatic effort. The former Pompey

striker won his duel with Dagenham's keeper. Wayne Burnett's

team still were not finished. Eight minutes from time, George Porter

stooped and cut the deficit to one. The hosts threw everything at the

visitors. They almost grabbed a point. Keeper Chris Dunn protected

the lead. Cambridge had their first win since returning to the Football

League. With James Beattie gone, Accrington

Stanley had a new man at the helm, Paul Stephenson, in temporary

charge. AFC Wimbledon have not lost weight in the league. They almost

opened the scoring. They were causing chaos. Accrington punished

their opponents. Adam Buxton said of the only goal of the match. James

Gray made it a winning start for the caretaker boss with his fifth of the

season. Hartlepool hope to build on last

week's win over Shrewsbury only for Tranmere Rovers to prove a tough

opposition. The home goalkeeper did well to charge down Stockton. He was

on his toes again to make sure this free kick did not sneak in. Rovers

took maximum points in their last couple of trips to Victoria Park.

This time they have to make do with a draw.

Nothing to choose between Hartlepool and Tranmere. Burton have already

registered their eighth win of the campaign. All this despite the

uncertainty over Gary Rowett? There is no uncertainty now. He has made

the decision to stay. The club want him. Everybody seems to have a huge

amount of trust in each other. It is great. It is a club which is really

going places. You want them to go automatically after the defeats we

have seen in recent years. Particularly us neutrals. We hope

they do it way and get up this year. They deserve it. Gary Rowett is

staying but James Beattie is gone at Accrington. This has taken everybody

by surprise? Little bit. Not a great start to the season. He did not have

a great start last season. 12 games without a win. I don't know. We talk

about budgets and facilities. That has been a bone of contention

between him and the board. Finally, to your old club, Cambridge United.

Some comeback win at Dagenham Redbridge. Two notable wins, this

one against Dagenham and in the week against Carlisle? Yes, I was up

there during the week. I spoke to the chairman. They have a decent

manager. They made a good signing in Ryan Bertrand. They look in good

nick. Some clubs carry the momentum through.

They have. Let's look at the tables. Nottingham Forest remain top of the

Championship. Level on points at the top after their stunning comeback.

Blackpool remain one of three sides without a victory. Bristol City are

the new league leaders of League One. MK Dons move into third. They

are now the joint top scorers in the Football League. Crewe Alexandra

remain bottom. They picked up their first points of the campaign.

Colchester move into 21st. Leyton Orient drop to 20th. Burton's

sensational start continues as they stretched their lead to three

points. Bury move into third. Cambridge move into sixth. At the

other end, managerless Carlisle find themselves rock bottom of the

league. Oxford and Exeter through against each other. The bottom three

and the only clubs in League Two without a victory. That is it from
