Hello there. Players and fans dream of a day out at Wembley. On the way

the best of this evening's three quarter-finals. But 48 hours on and

the football family is come to go terms with the death of Gary Speed

with clubs continuing to pay their respects, none more so than at

Cardiff where tributes have been pouring in.

A reminder of of what a popular figure Gary was in the game.

Three games to bring you and I will be reflecting on them in the

company of Mark Bright. There is no shortage of drama.

There is no shortage of goals. Liverpool's reward was a trip to

Stamford Bridge to take on Chelsea for the second time in a week.

The Premier League leaders hit five on the road in the last round to

send out a message to their Cup rivals. This evening, Manchester

City faced an Arsenal side who have gone ten unbeaten.

And hoping to go one better than last season.

Cardiff City are flying in the championship and were chasing a

semi-final place against Blackburn who found some respite from their

League troubles in this competition. It has been a busy night in the the

championship and we will bring you goals from the teams challenging

promotion, something no doubt that Cardiff fans will have an eye on.

We start from Stamford Bridge. Liverpool have happier memories of

trips to West London. They beat Chelsea 2-1 in the League ten-days

ago, with both sides sat next to each other in the League table it

each other in the League table it was all set up nicely at the Bridge.

So they meet again for the 30th time m seven years. Liverpool have

won the latest games only nine days ago. Chelsea make nine nine changes

to the game over Wolves. Torres is hoping to re-create his

past. Liverpool make seven changes to the team that played Manchester

City over 48 hours. One of British football's most

familiar faces died in tragic circumstances last weekend. Gary

Speed may not have represented Chelsea or Liverpool, but fans of

all clubs have been affected by his death. Those who knew him, played

with him, or for him, are still struggling with the shock. A

minute's applause marks his life everybody in this stadium to a

player who was universally liked and Bellamy found that particularly

difficult as a great friend of Gary Oh, it has gone the other way. It

is a yellow card. Phil Dowd in no doubt that was a trip.

The Uruguayan defender came across. Well, he certainly didn't get any

of the ball though you would have to say that Luiz dangled his leg in

there to make sure there was contact.

Henderson, Rodrigues. He is in a good position. He found Carroll.

That was too high for car for Carroll.

His arm was raced in Carroll's direction, he was taking a chance.

Liverpool were short on numbers when Bellamy broke. Carroll with a

header. Liverpool are claiming handball and the referee is

consulting with his linesmen on this near-side. The referee's

assistant is pointing to the penalty spot.

Liverpool are adamant. The referee's assist assistant on this

near-side did not signal a penalty and Liverpool continue the debate

and Phil Dowd awarded it. Here it is, oh well, it is a penalty, isn't

it? Alex. Well, it took him a while to get

there, Phil Dowd, but it is a good decision, it is clearly handball.

Liverpool have a penalty. Luiz needs to be careful. He already had

a yellow card. He doesn't want to talk his way into another.

Carroll against Turnball. It is saved by Turnball.

Straight down the middle from the striker and the goalkeeper stood up,

stood firm and saved it. The off side flag is up against

Bellamy here. Oh what a chance for Andy Carroll a

big puff of the cheeks. It is not a good penalty. Sometimes you will

get away with that, but it is driven just straight down the

most games this season, but they haven't scored enough goals.

Henderson is hurt here. Phil Dowd wants a word with the

left-back and he is going to become the fourth Chelsea player to go

have got that wrong. Firstly he has book the wrong player and you could

argue that could be a straight red is by a distance Chelsea's best

thing in the first-half. It is more or less their only thing

It is a great ball this by Henderson and an even better run by

Bellamy, I think it is Luiz who is playing him on side. And it is 1-0

Two Liverpool goals inside five minutes just might have put them

into the semi-finals of the League Cup.

Martin Kelly with the goal. But all he had to do was make contact

because the delivery from Bellamy was that good. It is his first ever

goal for Liverpool and Chelsea have a huge mountain to climb now.

What a moment for the youngster. Juan Mata has come on. Nicolas

Liverpool fans are loving every minute of it.

If Chelsea lose this game, it will be their sixth defeat under the new

big ovation. He is not universally popular Craig Bellamy, but the

Liverpool fans love him and so does Kenny Dalglish by the looks of it.

"One Gary Speed" is the song from the Liverpool fans, which is some

acknowledgement, given that Gary Speed was a former Everton player,

and Everton fan. Glum Chelsea faces where ever you look. Just seconds

now. Separating Liverpool from the Bridge again. They are threw to the

last four of the league -- through to the last four of the leg cup.

They have won their fourth successive match at Stamford Bridge.

Two in the space of nine days. Maxi Rodriguez got the first. Martin

Kelly got the second. Liverpool go through. The Premier League is

looking like a big, big ask for Chelsea. It is far from a given

they will go through in the Champions League, and their League

Cup run is over. Chelsea 0, Cup run is over. Chelsea 0,

Liverpool 2. I thought tonight the players were fantastic. The three

boys that played less than 48-hours ago in the game and they were a

credit. As were the seven that started afresh, so we are delighted.

I think it is, we have been proud the way the players were workinger

you can tell by the reaction of the supporters how much they appreciate

the effort. Liverpool were interior all the way through, they played

good football. They challenged every ball. They were competitive

throughout the t 0 minutes and we just could have done better. If you

had seen the game toegt, it was a great team effort. We deserved the

win. If you could say possession first half when he were dominating.

One r we won 2-0. We are not looking good in the Premiership, we

lost 2-0, but we believe in getting a good run of games that can take

us to another position. I mean this week we recovered two points to all

of the opponents. Doesn't mean that we will continue to happen, but we

need to get the wins from these other fixtures that we need to

challenge for the Premiership, if it is still alive. Very honest

account from the Chelsea manager. In fact it panned out almost

identical to the last game, at Stamford Bridge ten days ago. You

were there. Yes with the exception of the result. I mean kept a clean

sheet, Liverpool, won 2-0 and deserved it as well. I was

disappointed with Chelsea as the manager said, you know, they need

to string a run of results so get themselves back involved. There was

a lot of focus on Craig Bellamy, like Shay Given on Sunday after

recent events. He performed fantasticly well. He was Man of the

Match. He held it together during the minute's applause, and when he

got to the game, here he is providing the cross for Maxi for

the only goal. The cross for Kelly, so he is involved in both the goals.

He because Championship player last year, I thought he should be in the

Premier League, he was the best player for Liverpool for me, and

just was fitting for him to be man of match tonight. In terms of the

first half, it was a case of two penalties, a tale of two pens.

first one I thought it was a penalty. Core tes goes to ground.

He doesn't get the ball. And Phil Dowd booked David Luiz, when you

see it from this side, core tes doesn't get the ball. It looks like

he catches him on the right leg. The referee deemed that as dragging

the leg and trying to win a penalty. I thought Andy Carroll headed that

wide. He runs to the referee. You can see Alex raises his arm, stops

him heading it. There was a bit of confusion, the players surrounding

the referee. He is listening off the assistant and eventually, gives

the penalty. You can see, look at Andy Carroll. He is furious. Now he

has a golden opportunity to get his fourth goal of the season. You can

see Kenny's reaction, he is thinking that is the goal we needed

to get us on our way. But they came back to win it. As for where it

leaves the hell si manager, he has lost five of his last nine games.

Six clean sheets. Valencia coming up in the Champions League, really

important for them then they have Newcastle away and at home to man

City. Pressure time, but it is a talented bunch of player, he has to

get the best out of them. Crucial spell for him. As for Kenny

Dalglish he is on course for his first trophy in his second spell in

charge. Victory for Cardiff tonight would equal their best showing in

the competition when they reached the semifinal in 1966 while

Blackburn's progress has taken their mind of their poor Premier

Of all people, he was the man that Steve Keane wanted that chance to

reach. Couldn't keep it down and you can see his disappointment with

that Blackburn have to stay within touching distance of Cardiff.

and only Mark Bunn knows how that ball did not finish up in the back

Dann. Then Conway got involved. Scrambled off the line. This was

Miller magic all right. The question is was there handball

there as it is hammered in. It looks as if it caught the shoulder

has gone for the return. Lifting it in towards Gunnarsson. Away by

Cardiff. Cut back to Miller. Out by Givet. Lovely football from Cardiff.

Patience. Neat approach work. Just hung up there by Cowie, looking for

Miller. Givet ensured it didn't reach The Scotsman. Whittingham

with Cardiff's first corner of the second half. The keeper can't quite

get there and it's in! Goal number two for Cardiff City. All about

theicalty of the delivery. -- quality of the delivery. Wonderful

ball for Whittingham and they make the most of Bunn's inability to do

anything about it. Gerrard got the vital touch. A man who spent last

season on loan at Hull City. No room for him in Dave Jones's team

but Maliki McKay wanted him back and in the absence of Mark Hudson

Gerrard has stepped up to the plate and put Cardiff two up and a step

closer to that semifinal in the Comfortable enough in the end for

Mark Bunn to keep that one out. The confidence that is flooding

through the veins of these Cardiff City players right now. Inevitably,

more chance from the Cardiff fans towards Steve Keane enquiring

whether or not he will be in a job being nudged by Goodwillie there.

No free-kick, throughout the evening it seemed likely there

would be a set piece from Blackburn Rovers.

Goodwillie, the best chance of the night for Blackburn Rovers. He

didn't really get hold of it, David Goodwillie. Dunn's delivery was

away from Gerrard. Goodwillie for Blackburn.

Goodwillie insistent that he was barged by Taylor. Cardiff get a bit

lucky and maybe Goodwillie should have pulled the trigger a fraction

earlier. Miller through the centre. Here is

is Miller. Had that gone in, surely it was game all over and most

people in the stadium expect that had to finish in the back of the

brought the opening goal. We have reached the mid-way point

He has scored for Cardiff City this season, but this this would have

wrapped up a wonderful night for Cardiff City football Club. Roberts

disappears the last glimmer of hope for the Premier League strugglers.

this night belongs to Gary Speed whose name echoes around the

stadium. On my watch, time is up and we are in the fourth minute of

the whistle to his mouth? He blows for time.

Cardiff City are in the semi-finals of the League Cup for the first

time since 1966. The pressure builds on the boss of Blackburn, if

It was very important tonight. We knew it was going to be an

emotional evening. We knew we cleared our heads this morning and

tonight, spoke to the boys before we went out and we knew the first

two or three minutes there would be that moving tribute to to Gary. We

thought that we would go out there tonne and if we could win this game

as a marker for him, a Mark of respect, but for everyone in South

Wales here to put Wales into that semi-final as I said, you know, in

Gary's memory. We're disappointed because we have

got massive game coming up against Swansea. We made a few changes

tonight. We thought the team that was going to go out would be enough.

Full credit to Cardiff. We were chasing it a bit when we bring on

the substitutes to change it a little bit. We are disappointed.

Were you tempted to bring those two on earlier? I was going to bring

them as soon as the second goal went in, I was dipointed with that

goal -- disappointed with that goal because I felt it was a han ball

that we never got. I thought if we bring them on we will get a massive

game on Saturday if we manage to get back to 2-2. I was waiting to

get in the game a bit and maybe we could change it.

Bearing in mind we need to keep people as fresh as we can.

Let's talk about that incident that he talks about. He says he saw a

A great effort from Cardiff City. We mentioned the word "emotional"

on more than one occasion. They have lifted the hopes of the nation

tonne and in style? Yes, they played excellent football.

Blackburn started off well, but the football was played by the

championship team and the gap between the Top of the premiership

and the bottom of the Premier League is nothing. Seven players he

brought in during the summer started in this line-up. Out went

Bellamy and Miller came in and he is doing well. He has got optimism

high. They have been so close over the past few seasons and you think,

"Has he got it right this time?" He is combining the the Carling Cup

run with the League. The players love the publicity. You

are on the TV more and he is highlighting the work he is doing.

He was under pressure going down there, but congratulation to him,

he is doing a great job. . Arsenal came unstuck in last

year's final, but they went in this match unbeaten in ten game. City

are struggling, but they went into the game as leaders of the Premier

League. With a Cup pedigree having won the FA Cup in May. At the

injury. Before the match, there will, of

course, be a moment to remember the manager of Wales, Gary Speed whose

without a trophy, they desperate to have some sort of success,

might have just nicked it. From one end to the other. Sergio Aguero

scores his 12th goal of the season. Arsenal caught in full attacks mode,

awareness to find Sergio Aguero, who made no mistake in finding the

Somebody needed to fling themselves at this, well Chamakh did. Van

Persie did. Arsenal look as if they are exiting the cup at the

are exiting the cup at the quarterfinal stage. Another one for

City. A difficult win. It is always difficult, and I think that both

teams played very well. We were unlucky because we scored six

minutes to the end. It is good. I am disappointed. But as well, you

could say to be realistic as well the performances of some players

were outstanding, and of all, if you look at the two teams I felt

there was enough room for me to win it and it makes me positive We want

to win any trophy, the Carling Cup is important like the boss said, he

wanted to win this game and we done that very well tonight. I haven't

been getting too many chances but that is because of a strong squad.

I have been trying my best in training. I have benefiting in a

bit more and finding more comfortable round the boys. That is

half the battle, once you win the respect of your team-mates you play

better and to your capabilities. I feel I am start doing that more and

obviously tonight I am happy with my performance, there is negatives

in my game I can improve on and I will do that next time I get a

chance. He was in terrific form. They did very well. Exceptional

from three of the young players but man City had more possession.

Arsenal looked more threatening but City can change their side and put

a fantastic squad out there, and I think it's 28 visits they have had

to Arsenal without getting a result, so they have won it on the 29th

attempt. They might not be able to compete financially on the players

we saw in action this evening but they have got a remaining keeper

who they can bring off the bench and make stunning saves. Pantilimon,

he is six foot eight, something like that. I thought it was scuffed

across the goal, but from this end here, he gets a touch. You think it

is going to nestle. It's a fantastic save. There was another

one. Oxlade-Chamberlain was so exciting tonight, he gave the a

glips of what he is capable of. This looks like it is going in the

top corner. He catches it from behind. Look at that. A great

stretch and push over, and he is on loan. Very impressed with him.

wasn't the best of games, I mean it was given a bit of between the two

big one, but Manchester City are at their clinical best. It was supreme

counter attacking Arsenal have done this so many times in the past.

Dzeko. Still no problem here, look like the team are getting back.

Great pass, lovely touch from Johnson, Aguero comes on, slots it

in, after scoring 11 goals in the first few games he has had a dry

spell and fou he is back on the road. But dangerous on the counter

attack. I think that was the only shot on target. I know Roberto

Mancini was complaining about the scheduling of the game. Kenny

Dalglish was as well. They both come through. Do you think he will

welcome the added fixtures that come into the equation? It is about

winning trophies. He has won the FA Cup. The last time they beat

Arsenal on a run like that they went on to win the League Cup. So

it is about staying in the trophies. You are In It To Win It. Collect as

many as you can. The players get used to winning, the winning habit

is great for players. Yeah, it is all going well for them. It wasn't

great. Kept a clean sheet and scored an away goal. Through to the

next round. And encouraging signs for Arsenal. It was a busy night in

the championship as well. Nine games in all taking place, and a

good win for the top two there. Southampton and West Ham. Big

victories as you can see for the Here are some of the goals then.

Southampton maintain their lead at the top of the table. Coming from

behind to beat Hull. They have a terrific record there. Barmby's

terrific record there. Barmby's Tigers led at half-time. Soon after

the restart, Do Prado scored. Lallana who has been in fantastic

form for Nigel Adkin's men he headed in the winner from close

range. Southampton have won the last 21 games at home, in all

competitions. The incidents didn't stop there. This red card for a

challenge on Dan Harding. As for West Ham they started the day

behind Southampton. They keep up with them. They win their fourth

successive match after goals from Piquionne. Carlton Cole there

rounding the keeper to seal the win in added on time. This is what it

means for table this evening. The top five all stay the same. As for

Leicester, they replace Blackpool in the top six after their win,

Brighton and Reading close in on to the play off positions. As for the

bottom half, Bristol City climb above Ipswich. There are four teams
