Good evening. After all the drama at the weekend, the Carling Cup had

much to live up to. And with just one team in the last 16 from

outside the top two divisions, who says the big guns don't take it

seriously? Taking it very seriously is Mark Bright, who'll be keeping

an eye on all the action. Later on, we'll look back at all of last

night's goals. And if you haven't seen them, don't go far away. But

we start with tonight's four all Premier League ties. With all four

of the more fancied teams away from home, there was always the chance

of an upset. Could Big Mick turn the boos into cheers for the visit

of table-topping Manchester City? David Moyes has performed miracles

at Everton. How would his magic fare against a Chelsea side

boasting just one win in their last four way games? Stoke made some

pretty astute signings in the summer and are unbeaten at home

this season, so not the easiest of places for Kenny's Reds. And

Blackburn sit 16 places below visitors Newcastle, who have had a

terrific start to the season. Would the cup give the Rovers faithful

something to finally shout about? We start at the Britannia Stadium,

which has proved a tough place to visit this season, with Stoke City

unbeaten in all competitions. Tony Pullis named a strong side for

tonight's meeting with Liverpool, who have won this trophy more times

than anyone else. In fact, they came away with an 8-0 win the last

time the two met in this competition. Your commentator in

Stoke winning 1 - 0 in the Premier League only last month. The

Potteries team is five different from Arsenal on Sunday. The

goalkeeper returns and Jonathon Woodgate. It changes to Liverpool.

Jamie Carragher, the only man left from that 8 - 0 came 11 years ago.

Kenny Dalglish has changed things on earth did he manage to come so

close to scoring from there? He does not really have any room. He

turns and fires. It was curling and dipping. Just not quite enough for

Stoke City. Maxi Rodriguez On the Run. Thomas Sorensen. It came off

the knee of Luis Suarez. They write, positive play. Keep going, is the

cry from the manager. It is a partnership that is growing.

Andy Carroll has had three chances. Two of them with his head. He could

With half-time looming, Stoke City take the lead. It was a horrendous

mistake. Look at this. The Uruguayan defender had too much

there is a lot to do for Stoke City. In the end, Kenwyne Jones did

Jones coming off. I don't think that has impressed a number of

Stoke City supporters. The two-goal match-winner, Luis Suarez, is going

playing a part in keeping out this corner. Pepe Reina. It has gone all

the way over. With the Liverpool touch for the Stoke City throw in.

It was flying in, flying over everybody. Rory Delap. Pepe Reina

got something on to that. Peter Crouch. The flag is up. He has

missed, anyway. It would not have counted. Appeals all over the place

for free-kicks, penalties, the referee is letting it all go

because there is no point when you are not quite sure what is

happening in all that. He has to get it in as soon as you can...

Somebody is going to have to have a shot very soon. Throw-in. There

will just be time for it. Kenny Dalglish is desperate to hear that

second half in which Liverpool have turned this around. One goal down

at the break, Kenwyne Jones netted for Stoke City and back in

Liverpool. Liverpool for the League Cup? It might be. They're going

into the quarter-finals. 2 - 1, Delighted to be progressing but

even more for Luis Suarez. To score the way he did. He was never going

to score with the tap in. We created a lot of chances. I want to

say, Jamie Carragher is a smashing lad and I have a lot of respect for

him. But the challenge, it was a bad challenge. You and I have both

seen it and other people have. See what other people think. And the

other incidents, the goal from the throw. Especially, when you compare

to what the guys did to Peter Crouch in the second half. The

referee has got good reviews and all those decisions. Looking back

the season. Then Williams worked another opening down the same wing,

thanks to neat work from the final climb. Williams was brought down by

Dan Harding. No set pattern protest and no mistake by Jermaine Easter.

Claiming the quarter-final place. Cardiff had the winner just before

half-time after Burnley enjoyed their best period. Aaron Goodison

made the deception which turned the match. Don Cowley did the hard

yards from midfield. And Joe Mason supplied the finish, his second

goal in two games. And cadres first quarter-final experience --

appearance since 1965. It has been They have a man who is in form?

Mason. 18 years old. There has been a drought in the Cup, getting this

far. But there was not much in the game and these two have been

involved in some nice games. He takes it ever so well. He just gets

lucky here. Slightly unlucky. But they are through. And the draw was

lucky. Crystal Palace feel they have an excellent chance. Crystal

Palace, you are an old boy. You want to wax lyrical? Jonathan

Williams has come through the academy. He was involved in both

goals. Just slides into that area. The six-yard box. Dan Ambrose. It

was tough. Southampton played good football. Feeding in Jonathan

Williams. The penalty. And then Jermaine Easter wrapping it up.

Southampton played well. And a very young players as well. James Ward-

Prowse? 16 years old. Just sat in front of the defence and he

controlled the game. He showed a very controlled performance and he

has a big future. Full credit. Dougie Freedman said that Crystal

Palace surprised him. You? Yes, just struggling to stay up. A

change of personnel. The whole club is heading in the same direction,

pulling the same way. I have watched some development gains and

people are fighting for places. It is really going well. Jonathan

Williams, he was trusted to play in the first team. That is a big

compliment. You just try and turn them out along the conveyor belt.

Now he has got you smiling. Just one game in the nPower Championship

tonight and Leeds had the chance to move into third if they could win

at Birmingham whilst City knew a win would take them to within a

point of the playoffs, still with to six games in all competitions.

And they see in that narrow victory over Leeds United. They are doing

brilliantly now. Birmingham up to eighth place. One. Outside the

play-offs. Four points of second place, West Ham United. It is all
