hello there, coming up tonight, all of the drama from the third round of

the capital one cup, as the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea,

Manchester City, Arsenal and the holders, Swansea, join the

competition. Steve Claridge joins me this evening

to reflect on a frantic 48 hours. With no pun intended, his manager

admitted he is champing at the bit. A matter of only three weeks since

they lost at Anfield. Manchester United go head-to-head with

Liverpool, but this time Luis Suarez is available for the first time

since his ten match ban for biting. Spurs are adjusting to life after

Gareth Bale, going well at home and in Europe.

Yesterday they made another statement of intent at Villa Park.

Swindon pulled off the shock of round two, beating QPR at Loftus

Road. On Tuesday night, Mark Cooper's side had the chance to take

on a bigger scalp as Jose Mourinho's mercurial Chelsea are

arrived at the County ground. With the third round producing another

goal fest, we have all the drama and the odd talking point on the way.

First tonight, in intriguing cup tie at Old Trafford, where a football

star, Luis Suarez, made a dramatic return after a ten match ban for

biting. It was a chance to write a few rungs after Saturday's

comprehensive derby defeat at Manchester City. The commentator is

Guy Mowbray. Luis Suarez's return was never going

to be low-key, and the fates have conspired now to make it in this

great rivalry in which in the pasty has significantly contributed.

Manchester United have a team significantly different than

Saturday's defeat. Luis Suarez's inclusion is of course

the Liverpool headline, but interesting he is only one of two

changes that have been made by Brendan Rodgers. Was a entry key

competition with Everton in the last three seasons. He got past the

fourth round once with the toffees, a semifinalist in the 2008-7 season.

soon as it leaves his boot. That Japanese star has had a

away. David Leakey has hardly had made a

Yellow card for the United man, free kick, Liverpool. It had plenty of

power, but it was just too straight. Jones was just a little over eager.

goalkeeper. This will be the end of the capital one Cup Rd for Liverpool

this season. But Manchester United go on.

One goal has won it for Old Trafford, the goal came really early

in the second half, 47 seconds into it. David Moyes was still on his way

back to the halfway line and only just saw it. It has finished after a

really entertaining second half. Manchester United one, Liverpool

nil. I got the feeling fans, players, everyone got everything out

of the system tonight. From our point of view we lost at Anfield and

had a poor result that the Etihad Stadium at the weekend so we had to

ensure we got something better than we had done. The win is always

perform -- important, as important as performances.

We are disappointed at the goal, we conceded a goal at the weekend from

a corner and it is something we need to look at. It should be defended

much better. But I think the players were terrific, the board on the

pressure on the second half and maybe the final ball of the final

pass did not happen for us. The first group of defenders to face

Luis Suarez for a while, he gave you a game. He always does, he is one of

the hardest centre forwards I have ever played against. He is always on

the move. He commits you. He is not the type to let off, he will try and

run at you, beat you, you always have to be on your toes and because

but how far did that go in writing the wrongs of the Etihad Stadium on

Sunday? The performance might go some way to

erasing the memory of Sunday, possibly not as far as he might have

get beat by your local rivals, you don't want to get beat by your

archrivals. You could see the relief and the way they enjoyed the win at

the end showed there was probably a little bit more pressure on Man Utd

than Liverpool. Does it say that anything that

Manchester United went into that game making it changes while

Liverpool only made to two welcome any of those could have stepped into

the side for the next game. It was a bigger game than it

probably should have been at this stage of the season, and the way the

two approach that there was never going to be a lot in it and in

years old. Predicted to have a very big future with Arsenal. Stepping

season. That was at Radford. Rather a nervous retaken penalty. --

should have been 3-0. Swansea began the defence at St Andrews. The

French players were handed a chance to shine with ten changes from the

weekend. Swansea were well on top in the second half of roaming handset

about with more vigour. Tremmel kept things without any goal. No problems

for Dan Burn, providing just reward. Swansea's grip on the trophy was

slipping. Five minutes later, they knew that there would be no return

disappeared in stoppage time. Peter Crouch netted his first goal of the

season to put Stoke into round for for the fifth time in six years. For

a big lad... ! Early signs are encouraging first

look? No doubt about that. They want to be more progressive and there is

that that he has to take into contention but they have been fine.

Dramatic night at West Bromwich Albion, Arsenal squeezing through on

penalties. It was all about holding errors in the end. It was a dominant

youthful side. They made it hard for themselves? We know the way Arsenal

approach this, they like to utilise younger lads with a little bit of

experience as well. Was the pressure getting to West Brom? No one could

criticise Arsene Wenger for picking the side if they had one any trophy

recently because you can understand what he is trying to do. But they

have Naughton people will always question any time they played

outside, his reasons for doing that. There is more pressure. We have been

in this situation before with regression from the youngsters but

does that reap the ultimately wards? That filters right through to the

top and we are asking, is it fine to bring youngsters on but keep the

players of the top end of the scale as well. There is no good in

bringing youngsters through to fill the gaps left by good players, the

best players, every year. Those young players have to come into the

team and you have to ally them to your best players. Well done to

Birmingham city. One of the headlines at the weekend. And they

have done that again tonight. We could see fleeting moments but we

did see a Birmingham side that really went after Swansea and I

watched Swansea at Crystal Palace and they were sensational. They made

five changes and it did not quite work, they were never at their fluid

best but Birmingham, on today's evidence, and a good result at the

weekend, you get the feeling that things might be on the turn. Matt

Green is an ex-Cardiff player, scoring against Swansea in the way

that he did. That was a very good team gold? Fantastic effort, moved

the ball around quickly and it was a lovely finish. More reminiscent of

watching their opponents. Despite seeing their cup run ended by

Bradford the semifinal stage last season, there were no signs of any

hangover for Aston Villa as they registered a comfortable three - win

over Rotherham in round two. Next up for Villa, the visit of Spurs, who

had been beaten just once so far and clearly in the frame for winning

some silverware this season. Villa made seven changes, with a starting

place for Libor Kozak, who scored the winning goal at the weekend.

While there were eight changes for Spurs - Kyle Walker, Jan Vertonghen

and Paulinho the only survivors.Steve Wilson was at Villa

Park. That was nicely done. Defoe. That

was a good save from Steer. That was well ahead but it was straight at

the younger keeper. Defoe. That was a nice flick. Back over.

And absolutely lovely goal for Jermain Defoe. Beautifully

That is extraordinary. The corner kick is whipped in and it

Paulinho, with a run to the near post, scores his first goal in

Tottenham White already. Not exactly a thing of beauty, but they all

count. It deflects off of Matthew Lowton onto poorly new and past Jed

Spurs are three up. First goal for Spurs from Nacer Chadli. Jed Steer

will be disappeared as Michael bitterly disappointed with this one,

beaten at his near post. Giving away really poorly, Defoe, over to Nacer

Chadli, Jed Steer will be desperately disappointed to the

the season in only his third start of the season. It is a message from

Jermain Defoe to his manager, and Tottenham lead by four.

really never in doubt for the moment -- from the moment Lewis Holtby got

the pace on the past just right. It brings a broad smile to his

manager's face. Nice options to have. In 20 odd years I don't think

I have ever seen a striker have his shorts pulled down.

Lane. What more does he have to do to get a league start? I think he is

doing what we know he can. I don't know whether what he is doing now in

days will change the manager's mind. It is probably more the

days will change the manager's of player he is than his

performances that Andre Villas-Boas is looking at. There is quite a

single-minded player in that respect, he is a fantastic

goal-scorer. His progress in front of goal is almost second to none,

but is that the type of all-round player Andre Villas-Boas is looking

for? I don't know. There could be reasons, unbeknownst to us, for not

including him in the squad more often, because with performances

like that it is hard to see why. In some respects not too dissimilar to

the Mata situation at Chelsea. Managers come in with their own

style of play and sometimes players do not fit into that style that

others looking at the situation may imagine. Tottenham have scored nine

goals and conceded none in the last three. What about the key incident

at 1-0 down for Villa, this happened. We are after the

watershed, we are almost in danger of seeing a tackle of a different

kind! It gets funnier the more you see

it! It is a good job he had his slip on, wasn't it? He did well to get

his shot off! That is a fowl and it is a penalty,

he is stopping the freedom of the move to finish the shot. -- that is

a foul. They might have got on level terms, but were Tottenham were the

winners? They certainly were. Did you ever do that to a defender? Now,

I don't think so. Jose Mourinho is celebrating an

anniversary in English football. As for his second spell there it has

not gone quite to plan so far. In his first outing to Swindon town.

They are making good progress under their new manager, Mark Cooper.

You can stand Luis, and it was a Luis special that dipped and

Maybe Foderingham could have been more positive in dealing with the

That is the first save of the night from Mark Schwarzer. Not his

original plan, he was going to hit it with his right but had to go for

his left. Darren England is the man with the

bad news. Number 12 is off. Years the wrong side of the deepest

of Chelsea's defenders. That was his chance to register a

first Chelsea goal. Not for the first time, the

goalkeeper Foderingham has distanced himself. A very tough game, as

always when you play away against teams in lower divisions the short

against other teams. I am really happy for us because it

Manchester City. Five goals against Wigan. Getting revenge from FA Cup

Final. Toure, they have discovered another free kick specialist? It is

the power and the pace. Not trying to bend that and get it up and over,

he is actually heading the ball and threw the ball. The accuracy and the

power, no chance for any keeper. Two or three players that can take this,

and they need those games because the more games they can get, they

can get those players involved. Sunderland started life with a win

over Peterborough, which was a very tricky tie? It was not the way they

wanted it, check given either way Peterborough have been playing. They

have to be professional, do the job properly, and they did and it is a

settling down process. Cardiff have struggled in the cup, they smashed

six goals past dairy. -- Barry. On Tuesday night, though, Chris

Hughton's men steeled themselves for a much tighter contest at

Championship side Watford. Norwich were knocked out of the FA

Cup last season by non-league opposition. Norwich put six past

buried in the last round but have only scored one goal since. Wes

Hoolahan 's good work was squandered by Bradley Johnson. That was made

even more costly in the second half. And it was a lead Watford took

into the final quarter of an hour. The catalyst for the recovery was

Josh Murphy, only ten minutes into his debut and doing this. And his

first goal in the Canaries was followed by Gary Hooper, the summer

signing finally making a full debut at was postponed by injury. That

readily taken header five minutes into stoppage time. With only five

minutes of extra time, Hooper provided another illustration of the

form that provided 80 goals in three years at Celtic. Norwich were

leading. The Canaries through to round four for a second successive

season. We left things late and young Josh Murphy managed to get us

back into the game with a stunning strike and sometimes it takes

something like that to turn the tide strike and sometimes it takes

a little bit and put the real moment in our favour. There is not much I

have to say to them, the way that they played, it was fantastic.

minutes. Leicester made eight changes and last scored a league cup

tie nearly ten years ago. Another set piece led to this winner that

gives Leicester a second win over Derby this season. With the number

of changes, it was always about trying to get through to the next

round and we managed to do that. I am sure that Derby will feel a

little upset that they have not at least taken into extra time but we

are very pleased to have completed the job in 90 minutes. We thought we

didn't have to win the game, we got that goal in the first half and we

didn't have to win the game, we got felt like we should have been more

ahead. There was a penalty appeal that we did not get and we conceded

needless free kicks in the last 15 minutes. Jimmy Paterson has made one

league start since his move in the summer but his superb wing play

paved the way for the opening goal of the night against Burnley. Matt

Derbyshire poaching inside the six yard box. But the winners were

pegged back in the final minutes of the first half. This was all about
