Good evening. We have reached round four of the Capital One Cup, and

those left in it are just three games away from a Wembley final. 13

of the remaining 16 from the Premier League, with the odds on a

top-flight final shortening by the month. After the last season, it is

not a foregone conclusion. With me tonight is Steve Claridge, as we

reflect on another 48 hours of frantic cup football, this is what

is in store. With travel sickness hampering Manchester City's efforts

recently, Manuel Pellegrini's men went to face a Newcastle side

smarting from the derby defeat at the hands of Sunderland on Sunday.

We have got the best from an absorbing cup tie. Three clubs from

the Championship in action in this round, Birmingham, Burnley making it

possible to get through to the last eight. In a repeat of the last

final, Chelsea went head-to-head with Arsenal, we will find out if

the tie of the round lived up to its billing. The quarterfinal draw is on

the way later as well. We start at White Hart Lane for a dramatic cup

tie as Tottenham entertain hole, the build-up focused on how the Spurs

crowd would react to the manager's Ecus Asian -- accusation of them

being overly negative. Steve Bruce's men with the visitors.

The header did stop at reaching Jermain Defoe, so conceding a corner

is probably the lesser of two evils. The noise level rising amongst the

Spurs fans. He rose well enough. The header was

wide of the post. Super play from Sigurdsson, what a

goal! In a season that has already thrown

up efforts from Jack Wilshire, that we will talk about for years, that

is another of them that deserves a mention.

They are playing with a bit more confidence, Sigurdsson guides is

clear. A good save! What a fine tackle by

Eunice Campbell, even a handshake from the man he denied. -- Eunice

Campbell. That was a wild one by Kyle Walker.

It has brought Steve Bruce out of his seat right onto the touchline.

It was really rash from the England right back. He is fortunate that he

did not make more contact and his opponent does not make more of a

force. Steve Bruce cannot believe that a card has not been produced,

because that fulfilled some of the criteria for possibly a read.

Jon Moss is the match referee with the whistle, here we go for the

second half. Holed are bidding to reach the quarterfinals of the

Capital One Cup for the first time in their history. -- Hull.

And Hull just keep on coming at Spurs. George Boyd, goods delivery,

big piece of it, but it was travelling at such fierce pace that

he had precious little chance of keeping it out of his net. Paul

McShane, the one Hull player who remains from Hull City's only

previous win at White Hart Lane, has scored the goal by which they lead.

He is receiving attention from the senior physio. A real chance to make

it 3-1. Will Hull live to regret that Ms?

Harry Kane finds the corner! It is only his second Spurs goal.

Hull were in front for just eight minutes.

And how now Hull must regret that they missed the target seconds

earlier? Instead of 3-1, it is 2-2, and the momentum is back with the

home team. It is going to be the man who is a spectacular first-half goal

will leave an indelible imprint on many Spurs supporters' minds, Gylfi

Sigurdsson. Sigurdsson of Iceland. The keeper

went the right way, but Sigurdsson's placement was perfect.

A silky player who has just had one player at Premier League level, and

he scores very comfortable it, but Tottenham still have the advantage,

3-2. Tottenham's record signing is up next. Five caps for Argentina,

bought from Lazio at huge expense. And he lets Spurs down! And that

will do nothing for a struggling player's confidence.

The Egyptian making only his second appearance in English football.

He steps up and scores, and the shoot out is level at 3-3 now.

Born in Chingford, Harry Kane. It is a rocket of a penalty. And that

means that Hull have to score this to stay in the hunt.

He is a German, and we know what that usually means. It was

inevitable, wasn't it? 4-4, and on we go into sudden death.

Paulinho, one of the three players with which Spurs broke their chance

for record over the summer. With a shovel, but it was all about

placement. And it is David Myler. Some of the

younger Hull bans cannot watch. He has put in a Herculean effort, he

does not deserve to fail, nor does he. Friedel went the right way.

Six out of 74 Spurs. Probably sooner, one of these guys is going

to be the fall guy. Rossini also scores, and again Friedel went in

Paul McShane, whose goal looked like it might have on it for Hull. It hit

the underside of the bar, look at the relief!

Kyle Walker, kicker number nine for Tottenham Hotspur. Excellent!

17 kicks so far, only two failures. He was so unlucky on Sunday year, to

concede a really harsh penalty. Oh, and he is unlucky again! For the

second time in three days, Ahmed Mohamed Diame wishes that the White

Hart Lane pitch would open up and swallow him. Another and convincing

display by Spurs, but through they go to the last eight of the League

Cup. Steve, what a way to lose. We have not had any luck over the last

two or three days when we have been down here. But it turned out to be a

fantastic cup tie. A bit like what they used to be. Both teams going at

it. I can only say how proud I am to watch them. It is not easy after

playing here on Sunday and having to cope with the defeat and the manner

of it, and then to put in another performance like they did, they did

not deserve to go out, but sometimes you need a bit of luck and we didn't

have it. We changed the formation to 4-4-2, and they really had a go at

us. Chances for both sides. It was a game that was well played and a

fantastic rhythm, and the crowd made the difference. It was a game in

many ways that goes against what has been the solidity of Spurs this

season, propylene she's out of 16, and they go with goals galore

tonight. # 12 clean sheets out of 16.

Hull City change their system slightly underwear very positive and

showed what they could do. It was a containment exercise and stick to

the game plan of the previous game, but this, was a good game of

football. Ahmed Elmohamady played a role in both games. Both players who

had a mental games, him and Brad Friedel. Try and explain what went

on with the own goal. He does not expect the ball, when it goes past

him to come back at him. He is trying to recover from that. He puts

his hands on the floor, and the ball comes back at him and by the time he

tries to react, it has hit his hands and run into the back of the net.

People say, he should have been expecting that, but when the player

misses from two yards and hits it back across goal, it is hard to

think, that is Ashley going to come back at you. -- actually going to.

Hugo Lloris is a regular number one for Spurs, but Kyle Walker, and

hindsight, also, was a lucky to stay on the pitch? When you look at the

shape he makes, he is very lucky, when he goes into the challenge. It

is reckless. He does not entirely go through with the challenge. Stephen

Quinn does well to get out of the way, he knows what is coming. But we

have seen players sent off for that. Some great penalties from both

sides. You feel for that goalkeeper. As, having made what seemed like a

mistake early on in the game, he gets the chance to rectify it. And

now Andre Villas-Boas talks about the energy of the White halfling

crown. They seemed a lot more positive the night. -- the White

Hart Lane crowd. That was a game that, we have been to games where we

have been commentators, you can get a game with some tempo and some

chances and energy, but that was a very tactical affair on Sunday, but

this was more open and the only goal set the pattern for the night. It

was a totally different game with a totally different atmosphere.

Tottenham, four time winners in the hat for the quarterfinals. At St

James's Park, Newcastle and Manchester City had the chance to

bounce back from painful legalese inflicted by fierce rivals. Alan

Pardew's men came unstuck to Sunderland at the weekend. Guy

Mowbray as a commentator. The three sat there we can have

settled to ramp up this cup tie with a bit more. They all want to see a

response. The Newcastle team shows five changes from the one beaten at

Sunderland on Sunday with Yanga Mbiwa coming in, but Manchester

City, it is almost all change from the last defeat at Chelsea, with

only Garcia staying in the side, and Costel Pantilimon and goal. -- in

goal. That is a good leap from Ameobi. And it is but why buy

PowerPC. -- Papisse Cisse. Had that been inside the post, there was no

way that Costel Pantilimon was getting anywhere near.

Cissoko with another chance. Costel Pantilimon shovels it behind to deny

Ameobi. Newcastle seem to be forcing chance after chance. It was not

struck really by Ameobi but maybe the bouncing ball made it harder for

the goalkeeper than it could have been.

Anita, given a chance to start tonight and the chance to stake a

claim for a regular place in the Newcastle side. Anita can strike. He

has got that on target at least. It was a routine save for Costel

Pantilimon. Krul had to leave his area. James

Milner, he hit it too hard, if anything. Alvaro Negredo wanted it

popped onto his head in the six yard box. James Milner saw the goal

gaping and decided that, whatever the angle, it was his for the

taking. It was between the posts but it was over the bar. And what was

Tim Krul doing? Negredo. He has to carry it along

way but it is clipped into the side netting. It looked as though it was

going to be 1-0, City. And there it is. The glove of Krul enough.

Milner. Negredo's interested. And Silva denied by Debuchy.

We might yet have a lively ending to a pretty dour affair. All the way to

Gouffran. Newcastle are not done with this attack, yet. Corner kick.

And Saint James 's Park response. -- responds. We are at the stage now

where one goal wins it. Ban Arfa to Cabaye. Good ball, it had to go in,

but the flag was up, anyway. The header from Gouffran. He was offside

and he stayed offside, so it would not have counted.

There was a slip, and a decent recovery from Debuchy.

Boyata withstands the challenge. Great save from the big Romanian.

Inside the first minute and a half of extra time we have a better

chance than we witnessed in 90 minutes. Cisse Could not take it.

Tiote can't dive in. Alvaro Negredo taps it in. Manchester City take the

lead. Strong running by Eddie Jacko -- Edin Dzeko. And Alvaro Negredo

gets in front of Yanga Mbiwa to top the ball home.

Dzeko goes around Krul. He scores the second, and Manchester City are

on their way to the quarterfinals. The passing is crisp, the movement

good, the Finnish, sublime. Dzeko gets the second. Newcastle Male,

Manchester City, too. This is the fourth successive away

game in all competitions for Manchester City. James Milner, just

wide, and it was deflected. Cabaye - could not turn and face the

goal to shoot. He has managed to find Debuchy. It is cleared off the

line by Joleon Lescott. That was good from Joleon Lescott because

Costel Pantilimon was beaten, and it would have given Newcastle hope.

The first half was very similar for both teams, but I think finally, we

deserved to continue in this Capital one Cup. I thought that my team

could not give any more than they did. When you get two extra time,

that first goal is very important. We have a great chance and

unfortunately, it got away from us, and we have not got the rub of the

green today, but we have put in one hell of an effort. Considering that

Manchester City did not get their first shot on target until the 70th

minute, it was not a bad night for Newcastle. Yes, they had three

gilt-edged chances. Those are the same players we saw last year

scoring those wonderful goals. It yet been on target than they would

have been gone in this game. No coincidence that Manuel Pellegrini

had to bring on the likes of David Silva to inject some life into the

contest, and ten minutes later, this happen. It made the difference. It

just meant an extra man in midfield and where they did not have control

before, they then had it. Probably 20 minutes they dominated in extra

time, and they made it count, whereas Newcastle did not. The

combined for two very well work roles. Is the disappointment of the

cup tie heightened by recent defeats? This troubled times to

contain Ameobi. Then they started to tighten up but there will still be

element is where they feel they could improve. Dzeko got the assist

and goal. That is a nice touch from James Milner. How many times you see

players over the ball in that situation, but he keeps in contact

with the ball, and he knows exactly where the goal is and it is a good

finish. Lots of chat about Joe Hart, and Costel Pantilimon started

in goal. He was named man of the match after the game. Has he given

Manuel Pellegrini something to think about going into the weekend? I

think so. He made one or two good saves. They, he did nothing wrong.

They had struggled at the back. There had been a lack of

communication between the goalkeeper and the defence, but they were fine

today, and his manager will be happy with that.

Arsenal were in action last night, scoring for fun this season,

prompting firms to dream of possible silverware. They needed penalties to

beat West Brom in the last round, so how would they fare against a

Chelsea side gaining momentum with every game and boosted by the late

win against Manchester City on Sunday? Arsene Wenger made eight

changes, Nicklas Bendtner was given a start, and Jose Mourinho made ten

changes, Gary Cahill the only remaining player to start from

Sunday's win over City. We join Jon Champion once again.

It was deflected on its part. Why he was trying to keep it in is a

mystery because it was going out anyway for a corner.

Not quite enough on it! Cesar Azpilicueta takes advantage! It is

the second time in 48 hours that a defender's header has been wayward.

A very nasty moment here for Jenkinson, agonising for Arsenal to

watch again. A moment of unbridled joy for Cesar Azpilicueta.

The goal has livened this game up. That is a man in form, and we have

not been able to say that for a while, Fernando Torres.

Well struck, and enough to concern the goalkeeper, Schwarzer.

And it looks like Arsenal will fail to reach the last eight of the

League Cup for the first time in 11 seasons. Wonderfully crisp strike

from Juan Mata. His first goal of the season and a reminder to

Mourinho of just what he can contribute when given the chance.

That was his first touch. And it was very nearly Chelsea's third goal.

Chelsea Flower Show neatly and nicely now. -- Chelsea flowing.

A night of near misses and nothing more for Arsenal, and there have

not, in truth been too many of them. It was a very tight game, you know,

when we analyse it, we will see that. We took... They took advantage

of the States, but we put ourselves in a position to put them under

pressure. On the counterattack, in the second half, they took advantage

of it. On the whole, I still think there is a lot of positives in that

game. Is the secret to getting more starts more performances like that?

Work hard, light up the game, is that all you can do, really? Yes, it

is all I can do, and all that I did for this club. I always tried my

best, every training session, every game, and today that is what I did.

Everybody wants to play, and at the end of the day, it is the manager's

decision, and I just try my best and respect my team-mates and try to

score like I did today. There is doing all you can, but was that when

a reflection of both squads' strings at the moment? Yeah, comfortable. A

mistake and a wonderful goal. In the end, comfortable maybe, but it was a

reasonably close game. What you have got is... What I love about Chelsea

is, right, make no bones about it, this is a wonderful side, I think

five of them started in the Champions League. But the

application and a way that they approach every game in this Cup,

they never took their foot off the Gas. The application of the players

is second to none. I watched him at Swindon, Mata, he worked so hard in

the game. He worked so hard in the Swindon game and in this one. The

application in these games, this was the first cup that Mourinho won, if

I remember rightly. That is a wonderful strike. You could have

said at that stage... Arsenal were maybe starting to get back in the

game, but that is a wonderful finish. I like Chelsea, because I

like the way they approach these games, and they always take this

competition seriously. They are capitalising on some good luck at

the minute with defensive mistakes from the opposition. Where does this

leave Arsenal at the minute? A slight dip in form, having lost two

at home Chew Magna we should not get too carried away with that. Is this

the problem we have had with Arsenal in previous years? They have won the

games they should have won, but against the bigger sides they have

come up short, that is what people might be questioning now, I'm not

sure it is a question of that, but they did OK, they just come up a

little bit short against a really good side. Tough games for them,

Liverpool, Dortmund and United waiting in the wings. Manchester

United entertained Norwich, and they needed to come from behind twice to

beat Stoke on Saturday. There were nine changes for Tonight, only Phil

Jones and Tom Cleverley remained, Chris Hughton made eight changes as

Leroy Fer, Sebastien Bassong and Robert Snodgrass stayed in. Steve

Bower describes this one. Hernandez almost got that in! He did

not get the final touch either, it is a Manchester United corner. The

two youngsters combined year, 18-year-old Januzaj, 20 old Zaha,

but look at the movement of Hernandez in between the two

defenders. -- 20-year-old. That was a risky challenge, and it

is a penalty. Leroy Fer. He pointed to the spot. That is the

ball, a lovely turn from Januzaj. The contact, it was a silly

challenge from Leroy Fer. He was going nowhere. No Robin van Persie

tonight, so the penalty spot responsibility falls on Javier

Hernandez, the man whose goal beat Liverpool in round three. He has the

opportunity to give Manchester United the lead in round four. 1-0,

Manchester United! It is his third goal of the season. David Moyes'

team in front. His 11th goal in his last 16 starts. A Manchester

monsoon. Just the penalty separating the two

teams. That is useful, Hernandez! And

second time, 2-0, Manchester United! It is Javier Hernandez again.

The credit has to go to Alexander Buttner for the delivery year. Good

reactions first time, he could not keep without second time, because

Hernandez, as ever, was alive to the situation.

That is inviting Fulston on grass, good saved by Lindegaard. -- for

Snodgrass, good saved by Lindegaard. Much more positive from Norwich, and

it all came from Nathan Redmond. This is a long stoppage which tells

you the severity of the situation. Almost eight minutes this has taken.

It is a worrying sight. Warm applause around the stadium for

Robert Snodgrass. Everyone hopes he makes as quick a recovery as

possible. Can Norwich make this interesting in the closing stages?

Jones with a volley! That seals it once and for all. Phil Jones with

his first goal since December 2011, and it was a fantastic it. -- hit.

He got over it, kept it down, no chance. Not a raid on the

scoresheet, but his goal has killed off Norwich once and for all. -- not

a regular. Wayne Rooney has found Fabio, the

substitute, he has a chance, and he has scored. Only been on the pitch

two minutes. And Fabio gets the fourth goal for Manchester United.

Manchester United four, Norwich, zero.

I didn't think it was a penalty. But in the end, those three goals made

it comprehensive. We had a penalty given against us that was never a

penalty, never. That is the moralising when you come here and

make a decent account of yourself against a quality team and to get

such a soft and of the as that, it is hard to take. -- demoralising.

Talk about a roller-coaster, this game never let up from when Fulham

's band the home crowd by taking the lead after 18 minutes, with Hugo

Rodallega getting the first of seven goals. The free kick from Anthony

knockout was not held by Maarten Stekelenburg. Four minutes later,

Fulham dug themselves a bigger hall, with Paul can jesty getting in the

way of a clearance from Phillips and Ross, and Chris Wood put it away.

That became 31, soon after the break, as against Southampton at the

weekend, the Fulham defence failed to clear the danger and then made it

worse by leaving Miguel to score his first goal in English football. Back

came for them within 60 seconds. This time it was the Leicester

defence at all. Hugo Rodallega outfoxed the foxes to cut the

deficit to 3-2. Chances came and went and then three minutes from

time Karagounis and beast this free kick special, but Leicester had

other ideas than extra time. Another pair of fresh legs belonging to

Lloyd Dyer finished off the scoring, and this time there was no way back

for Fulham. We have had a good run at home

recently. They have in tight games. And that was a Premier League

outfit. It has been a bit of an open game. But it is good for the squad

to experience a win, I think, against Premier League opposition.

To come back from 3-1, back to 3-3, it was positive but it was

disastrous that they scored the winner. Having not out holders

Swansea in round three, Burnley had form, but Stoke took the lead and

should never have looked at. Osama Assaidi cracked in his first goal

for Stoke City since joining from Liverpool. The header was laid off

by Nikola Zigic. Look out for the fall to the ground

from Assaidi. All three match officials became involved and

Elliott was sent off just before half-time. Ten minutes after the

restart Peter Crouch showed by the can be such an awkward customer than

expertly directed header, his third goal in five games for a 2-1 lead.

Soon after it looked all over for ten man Birmingham. And Marco

Arnautovic, Aberdeen and unstoppable shot for a 3-1 lead. -- fired in an

unstoppable shot. Then, surely, Birmingham could have been down and

out. But instead, the home side and substitute Peter Lovenkrands

engineered a startling comeback. Poor defending and 3-2, with six

minutes to go. The into stoppage time, the substitute Gray Clive is

luck and then Peter Lovenkrands struck again. Ken when Jones took

Stoke City back into the lead. Surely there was no way back this

time per Birmingham. Wrong, again. Once more, Birmingham rouse

themselves for a final effort and with two minutes remaining, Ollie

Lee made it 4-4, forcing a penalty shoot out. Mitch Hancox was first

up. And that was the problem with his penalty, up and over. Cal Riley

was next and did not even hit the target. That left Stoke City and

Stephen N'Zonzi to finish the job that he and his team-mates had

carelessly let slip, and Stoke City were into the Brett Brown for only

the second time in 34 years. -- into the fifth round.

We made a dog 's dinner of it to be perfectly honest. We were fairly

comfortable. And we seem to lose, we just needed to see the game out to

its King -- conclusion. We were down to ten men with two or three minutes

to go in the first half, then they go 3-1 up, and it is like, what can

we do here, but I have to praise the players for the spirit that they

showed. They came back twice despite being

down to ten men for most of the game. The spirit that has been shown

throughout this competition, but it has not happened for them in the

league yet, has it? They played brilliantly. They deservedly beat

Swansea. And put on a very good show in difficult conditions with being a

man down, and you are thinking, they have picked occasionally but not

consistently. They have to take that form back onto Saturday. A good

start to the season for Leicester City. It was like a game of

basketball. Do you see the league cup as a distraction for a promotion

chasing side, or is it a continuation of good form? I would

rather play then train, I would rather win games and lose them. I do

not get that it follows that you get into the cup and fold in the league,

the statistics do not bear that out. I want to test myself against good

sides and play in front of big crowds and fans who are looking

forward to us doing well in games, and keep that feel-good factor

going. We saw Manchester United finish up comfortable winners

against Norwich City. Four goals, happier Hernandez, he got a brace,

but I know that you were impressed by a certain Belgian wonder kid.

Yes, Adnan Januzaj. He has played now left-wing, right-wing, he came

on and played right wing, and he has played in behind the front player.

He just looks like a really good player. Wherever you put them he

looks like he knows how to play that position, right across the front

three, I suppose. He's a plus for David Moyes. He could solve one or

two problems that he has. David Moyes will be hoping that that

starts a consistent run of results. Our last game now and Burnley have

been the Championship's surprise package this season - and Sean

Dyche's side were full of confidence after winning the battle of the

League's top two against QPR on Saturday. Last night, West Ham were

the visitors to Turf Moor. The Hammers had won just two of their

last 20 away matches in all competitions - a run going back to

November 2012. Burnley made four changes, as former Hammer Junior

Stanislas started. While for the Hammers, there were nine changes, as

only James Tomkins and Mohamed Diame stayed. Alistair Mann describes this

one. Good effort, and just tipped wide by

Adrian. The first stinging shot of the evening hit by the former West

Ham player. Nicely in by Danny Ings. And helped over the top by the

goalkeeper. Burnley are so invented. Danny Ings with the quick feet and

the speed of thought the match. Kieran Trippier has the ability to

score from this kind of position. He has an unusual technique, where he

hits right through the ball. He has gone for it, and hit the bar. Kieran

Trippier, with his unique style of taking the dead ball. He is so

precise, so careful. The West Ham supporters are of the mind that

their side can win this diet. They have certainly grown into it as the

second half has gone on. The referee points to the spot, penalty. The

referee has gone to his pocket and produced a yellow card.

So, Matt Taylor, inside the last 15 minutes, with a chance to settle the

tie, maybe. Terrific penalty, and West Ham celebrate in front of the

supporters behind that goal. And the Premier League side have nudged as

against The Championship leaders. He has done his homework on this one,

hasn't he? He drew the sting of Burnley then brought on his

experience players in the second. Maddie Broome Eiger will get there.

And the clearance goes straight into the path of Jack Collison. Is that

another penalty? It is, you know. The foul by Keith Treacy on Jack

Collison as he was shaping to hit it. And it is a red card as well, to

compound the misery. Jack Collison shaping to shoot, Keith Treacy

catches him, and the referee sends him off.

2-0, to West Ham. Jack Collison sending Heaton the wrong way, and

two penalty kicks have settled this Capital one Cup five. -- tie. The

first half performance, we were making sure that we can paint

Burnley, who are free scoring at the top of The Championship, and we did

the right good job and in the end it was a fantastic result for us. West

Ham through to the quarterfinals. A couple of penalties. Sean Dyche was

not particularly unhappy with the first one. From what we saw, he has

made contact with the ball. You are not going to get great elevation on

the ball, the board is not going to massively change direction, but we

could not really see how the tackle was made and what sort of contact,

whether you made any, on the ball or not. We have got to move on, because

the quarterfinal draw was made earlier. This is how they came out

of the hat. Sunderland do not play Southampton

for a few days. The big four kept apart, which is

intriguing. This is when it starts to get serious. If you, this is when
