Episode 1 The NFL Show

It'll be time for these two teams to settle it. Up the nearside. Montana

throws. Into the end zone. Touchdown.

Unbelievable. How did he do that? The ball is knocked out of his

hands. He has got it. The Denver Broncos are World Champions.

Goo evening and welcome Ed to the NFL Show. In the next 30 minute,

we'll take you from round ball to Oval, from Denver to Dallas and we

meet Christian Foulks who Harbors New York dreams. We'll have

highlights and am sis and if it is anything like last year, wear in for

a thrilling ride. He We are going to show you the good, the bad and the

ugly. Look at that. You want to be in front of the gynaecologist box

gave the insults very early. That's how it'll go for the next 20 weeks.

Seven months without football. Are you excited? I'm excited. I had a

greed off-season programme. I feel good about who I am right now, in

shape, ready to go. Others breathing in. We didn't have an off-season

programme. The anticipation for this season feels huge. It's been

ridiculous. I think last season was so incredible. So amazing last

season. So many great things happened. People are expecting it to

carry over and that's why everybody is euphoric right now. We have

1. We are under way in the 2016 NFL

season. Go, go, go 1st down. Under

zone. He throws. Goes for the end zone. Touchdown. They are gone for

two, guys. They are taking two in the wind. Looks left. He caught T he

caught it. Smith will keep T he dives for the end zone. He is going

to touchdown. The Cheetahs have won this game. It is one of the greatest

comebacks in Chief's history. Seconds to go. About a 34rd yard

Coppinger. They will attempt a 47-yard try to give the Cardinals

the lead. Nine seconds left. Come on, come on. The kick is on the way.

It is up. Wide, to the left. No good.

He has it back with four seconds to go. The magic ain't good here. And

Jimmy Garoppolo. Game ball, game ball, first win, right here.

Well, it really was a remarkable Week 1 in the NFL. We can't show you

everything that happened, for time reasons, we would be here until

lunchtime on Sunday. When you look at all the results, you see how many

close games there were? Ridiculous, man. This is the great thing about

the NFL. The parity in the league. All the teams are so evenly match,

there is going to be a blow out everiry week. And Miami pushing -

pushing Seattle through. People might not have expected that. Well,

in the off-seasons and their acquisitions, they have players. You

are going to talk us through as Plays of the Week, in Britain we

still call them highlights. The New Orleans' Saints and the longest

touchdown from the line of scrimmage One of the fastest receivers in the

NFL. The raiders are playing man coverage with had backed up. Number

2 #1, Smith should be backed off the ball. If you have a fast guy you

need to give yourself some space. He is so close.

Harrison Smith, my guy. Both those guys right there, 55. Not McMany

defensive plays. People like the offensive, really. What is coming

next I think we have got your boy, your favourite, Aaron Rodgers. Look

at this mra, the blitz. He is dragging the guy down. He still

manages to throw the ball. Incredible play. That guy, Aaron

rodgeers is a great play Coppinger. Talking to you both from last year,

it is hard on your backfoot as a quarterback. He is throwing without

his leg. You are taught to plant and throw. Look how fast he is throwing

t all arms. Incredible play. To another quart Coppingerback, not one

as experienced as Aaron Rodgers but the man who had to stand in for Tom

Brady against the Cardinals. Absolutely. Jimmy Garoppolo proving

anybody can step into the new England patriot's offense and score.

What great play. Anybody can do it. Let's remind. Not necessarily the

play, that anybody can step into the Patriot's owe finance and score. I

don't think Brady is that good. I think he is good, not great. Anybody

who plays on the bill, Belichick will get the same result. You have

lost your mind. I have not. In a round about way you are praising

Belichick for anybody can be dropped in and still perform. Hes the

greatest coach the NFL has ever seen. Period. We saw Matt Cassel in

2008 go 11 in 5 and we haven't heard from him since. All about Belichick,

nobody else. You don't have the bromance for Tom Brady that a lot of

us do. I never have. Me and him don't see eye-to-eye. I gathered

that. A lot of field balls were missed. This isn't necessarily a

play of the week. Why do you think it is? That was a bad snap that

hold. That particular play, which totally throws off the kick

Coppinger, as you see, it is wide right. You have to pick it up,

remove T the kick Coppinger has slow it right down there, adjust.

Everything has to be so detailed and in time. When you see them working,

everything has to be in time. If it is not it throws it off. They have

frozen with the time-out. The first time he kicked it they called a

time-out and he put it through. And it was really tight. He adjusted

and, obviously was wide. I was always so mad when the coach would

call the time-out right before but sometimes it works, they call it

icing the kick Coppinger, they iced him just then. It worked. Well, a

field goal missed to win the game for the panthers. Are you dancing

there? I was dancing. I sing, dance, do it all. Leicester City's

Christian Foulks, says once his football is over, he dreams of

playing in the NFL. So the dancing man there went to visit him. How are

you? Well I hope you become a Leicester City fan, if you are not

Honestly I would like to do it. It is not a joke. You are serious? I am

dreaming obviously, but when you are not believing in yourself and when

you stop dreaming things can never ha. I go for it, 100%. That's what

your dream is, we are going to make that reality for you Christian.

more. You have been a fan fted NFL or how long? I think when the

packers were in the Super Bowl. That is when it caught me. I like the

kicking, obviously. You like the physicality. The opposite of what

you do right now. Well, it is pretty physical, don't worry about that. I

can tell you, we always have broken noses, where you guys wear

protection, you know. That hit the crossbar, OK. Oh my

goodness. It was n right. Yes. Just confirming. If you can make this

field goal right here, Christian, you are in. That's good. You are

good from 55-in. That would put you as top three kicking in the NFL. I

have to tell you truth, I didn't think you could do that No, why? It

is hard. You know how hard. You know the percentage of 60 yards in NFL?

5%. You have to make this kick to be in the Super Bowl. In New York they

don't play that, you won't be able to come out of your house. No

pressure or anything, this is for the Super Bowl. Bring us home.

Oh, no, I cannot go home any more. We lost. We lost. No your lesson

now. Don't worry. When exactly are you going to try and give us a try?

Well I'm in Leicester now for two or three more years. After, everything

is possible. I was very impressed with you. . It was my coach, my

coach. Sow kicked 50. He struggled a bit with 60 but with more practise,

do you think he could kick of 60 outfield goals? No doubt about it.

This guy has the most powerful left leg I have ever seen. It was booming

off his leg. If he would practise at t he would be able to give it a real

chance. But also deal with nerves and pressure, it is all right -

sorry, doing a very serious feature with him but everything else that

comes into it. For sure, at practise that's one thing coaches useded to

do with kickers, nailing in practise, get the team around, get

crazy, put pressure on him, that's how it counts. Is that how they do

it to get the pressure on it? It could be something like

conditioning, if he hits this, no running. So you have the whole team

on you. You better make the I can can.

Do you have massive respect for kickers? No one has respect for

kickers, until there is one second left in the game and he has to kick

a 50-yard field goal. They're strange. They're off to themselves.

We have different fields, the guys will be on one field, the kickers

will be on their own. We come in sweaty and they're relaxing and they

have done practice after an hour. Some of that is true. He never

played special teams. When you play special teams you get a good

relationship with the kicker. Now, although these two and even

Christian Fuchs will claim there is only one team in New York. There is

in fact... No there are two. On Thursday the other New York, the

Jets travelled to Buffalo to face the Bills, with both teams looking

to win. You walk into a important game and it is only week two, but

someone is walking out 0-2. Taylor's first pass down the field and it is

caught in stride by Good Wyn. Top of your screen Revis is watching. He is

trying to reed the receiver and the kwarder back. But we are -- read the

receiver and the quarterback. He had a long jump. He may have qualified

for Rio with that effort. Second and goal. It is Forte. Touchdown New

York Jets. It didn't get better for the Bills. Decker caught one and

celebrated in the crowd. The Bills still trailed by 10 at half time.

Third and six. Taylor. Hesitated for a moment. Now, breaks outside. Down

the field he has a man and it is caught at 30 by the former Jet. They

had him seemed in the pocket. What a move by Taylor. I thought he was

going to run wit. He kept rung and saw Salas. Salas with his first

career touchdown catch. And caught reaching back for it and it is out

of pile. Coman to the end zone. It was the rookie, Marshall, who caught

it. Was he down? He definitely has possession of the football. And he

wasn't down. 17 unanswered by the Bills and the defense comes up with

the play. The run back by Coman. He has got another touchdown. Matt

Forte. Jets up by a field goal now. And again high scoring affair

breaking out here. That is not what everybody was forecasting all week

long. The Jets capped off their fourth quarter drive with a 36 yard

field goal to extend their lead to 30-24. I agree with this call. What

makes you think you're going to stop this Jets offense if you pin them

back with a punt? You need to take them down for a score. Right in the

arms of Richardson. And McCroy. He is short. He applauds the defense.

Back and he has got a hold to the end zone. The Jets open things up.

Forte's gotten stronger as the game's gone on. Splits the defenders

and tries to get in. They say he stopped at the 1. Woods implores his

team mates to get moving. We will review the ruling on the field.

Watch what he does near. The forearm never touches. No. It was a

touchdown on the play. The wrist is considered part of hand. The runner

was therefore not down by contact. Reset the clock. To 1.17. There was

1.17 on the clock when the touchdown was scored. Carpenter. Up in the

air. And Marshall makes the catch. Hello NFL fans.

37-31. The score not showing how the game played out. Willie, what was

the main takeaway after this game? Fitzpatrick had not had any success

at Bills Stadium since he played there for the Bills. And he came in

and found every receiver. It seemed on the Jets roster. Making some big

plays. He looked sharp. I have to give a shout to offense. I was

thinking, man, are the Bills going to cover anybody. Then I realised

they have a lot of talent. They spread it out and threw the ball to

Brandon and Decker. These guys are all over the place. It was a lot of

fun to watch. If they can continue like that they will be good. And

Marshall. They have some good unknown guys stepping up and playing

well. And Fitzpatrick attacking down field, he had ten balls of 15 yards

or more through the air. Another that some thought didn't have much

tread left on the tyres is Matt Forte. He not just turning heads in

the fantasy world, but on the real football field. I thought it was

great. I knew a quarterback like him would take advantage and in the

passing game he is a great outlet. But also running the ball. He wears

defenses down and like you know we mentioned, in the show, they

receivers open up things for Forte. One and one the Jets. 0 and 2 the

Bills and they have Arizona and New England coming up. We will see you

next week. But for now, back to London with Jason and Mark. Here are

the rest of the week 2 fixtures. Some interesting match ups. It will

be interesting to see what happens to the Cowboys and the Redskins. It

is a divisional game. That is more important and these two lost and one

has to come out with a win. 49ers at the Panthers as well. Given how

impressive the 49ers were last time. The Panthers will bounce back and

give San Francisco their first loss. You're sure. Yes. Jaguars at

Chargers. That is interesting, both teams need a win and I think

Jacksonville can win. It will be hard in San Diego. I want to see how

they respond. They lost a lead. Can that affect a whole season. Yes it

has happened to before, it happened to me. You lose a game like that and

it lingers and that might happen with the Chargers who were not that

good to start with. And if it lingers too much, your season is

gone. Now a few more. Falcons at the Raiders and the Raiders could be

everybody's second team. Like them. They have a running game and that is

what they have been missing. Last year they would just throw. Now they

can run the ball and offenses getting balanced. Great young team.

You see at the end of the game they went for two. Imagine the stones on

this human being. Two to win the game. I think I know what you mean

when you say that. I asked you both off cam pra who might be the --

camera who might be the favourite. You both side the Steelers, who face

the Bengals this week. Offensively ridiculous. You have Williams and

defensively they're good. They got a bend but don't break defense. They

don't let you score and it is all about keeping them from scoring.

They should be better at dealing with them. Yes they keep the ball.

What about the Seahawks and the Rams, the first game in LA. The

Seahawks would need to be offensively better. There might be a

doubt with Wilson. He is banged up and he gets a good defensive line.

They will have to protect him. But still picking the Seahawks. Because

the Rams haven't scored a point yet. I know you're the expert, but that

is not the hardest prediction in the world. No hope in LA now. They will

struggle to come back, The Rams. Although it is LA. Yes they have

Keenan as their kward quarterback -- quarterback. He was holding a clip

board. He didn't even dress. You never see that in the NFL, that

Thames you how far behind he is and the lack of progression. Do you

think he will see him. We will. If they lose another game, this will

put him in, because they will think we ain't got nothing to lose. Week

two has the potential to be as compelling as week one. But its no

just the great importants and the -- performances, we are hoping for more

of the unexpected. The things you only see in the NFL. Let's start

with the Raiders. They could be everybody's second team. Dar reck

Carr is great to watch and look at the agility there. I like him. Like

his brother. He was brother was athletic. Look how he landed. He

handed perfectly. You picked out the Minnesota defense, but why not him.

Well, we love ow defense. And this first pass, in profregsal football,

which the cameraman might also remember. And this is the final play

for the Colts. What are they doing. Have been in situations like this.

We speeded that bit up. You're tired. Look at the guys. It is like

watching clowns perform. Need some some rest. They kept going
