Day 4 Today at Wimbledon

as far as our highlights show is concerned, there is barely room to

swing a cat between now and 9pm. A very eventful fourth day of these

championships. We will start with an epic game, the first match on Centre

Court between Rafa Nadal and Lukas Rosol. This was a repeat of the

match two years ago when Nadal went crashing out of the Championships.

Lightning could not strike twice could it? Here we are, 4-4 in the

first. It was called in, Lukas Rosol is

challenging. UMPIRE: Lukas Rosol have two

challenges remaining. JOHN McENROE: we have -- we have

seen that type of serve and how far he goes to cut him off. It looks

like he slices it short. Just missed it.

Here is Rosol again with two break points.

APPLAUSE That is as big a forehand as he has

hit. The fact he could find that and attack that is amazing, especially

when you are down double break point.

I don't know what Rosol was thinking there, to move to the centre, of

course he was going wide, he should have stepped in and just ripped it

and gone for it. That is his style. That return has earned him a third

chance. Where his easy-going to stand now? -- where it is he going

to stand? APPLAUSE

And he has got the break. Could lightning possibly strike twice in

the same place? JOHN INVERDALE: what is going on here, the answer, this

is Rosol serving at set point. Suddenly, here we are in the second

set and after a lot of big serving and a lot of big hitting, we find

ourselves in a tie-break and what is going on here? Rosol is leading 5-3,

two points from a two sets to love lead.

SIMON REED: Now he has got the ammunition and these two service

could do the trick. -- two serves. That was an incredible shot by

Nadal. He reached for it, you really had to put a little extra on it, it

was beautiful. 125 mph. He has set point for 82-mac

set lead. -- a two set lead. APPLAUSE

It was a champion shot. It just shows you how important and

effective that left serve can be for him. Rosol did not hit it cleanly

and that opened the court up. Still, his coach has to be proud that he

could come up with the goods then. He was a break down earlier in this

set and he has battled, big time, to try to level this.

Now it is set point for the Spaniard.

After all he has achieved, Toni is on his feet. JOHN INVERDALE: and

that was the game. I suspect Lukas Rosol will think about that for an

awful long time tonight. Two sets later, Nadal had one back -- Nadal

had won. His non-exit, if you like, almost the story of the day, but

what else happened on this fourth day of the Championships? But as we

know, it is not what you know, but what you wear it that counts. In

this curiouser world we live in, much hinges on whether you have got

the look. A dash of red on a bandanna so white, Kei Nishikori has

the look. Others can only dream of appearing so-called. The snappers

are always out in force when he performs. Not wanting to miss a

single shot of a young man with tennis style that was to dazzling

today. The 10th seed wafting into the next round. Ana Ivanovic was

French Open champion. Heading to Wimbledon, the 11th seed won the

grasscourt title in Birmingham and today, avenged a defeat from 2008

against Jie Zheng. She will face Sabine Lisicki. Today's opponent

showed far from model behaviour as a ball girl was clobbered. Lisicki

added another Wimbledon victory to her collection. Baseball cap in

reverse, that is the old Lleyton Hewitt look still sported by Lukasz

Kubot. Quarterfinalist here last year. He defeated his Serbian

opponent. This is from the Ministry of silly walks! One sock has

Serena has got to match face on, she is so focused in getting this job

done. She has had one expression on her face the whole match, you would

not know whether she won the point all of the point!

times former champion. Serena Williams safely through and Maria

Sharapova without too much bother against her Swiss opponent. That

could be a titanic duel in a few days time. There was one segment of

Wimbledon that had a French flavour to it. Big names wherever you looked

down the bottom end of the complex here, courts two and 12. Gael

Monfils was playing Vesely. Not just the way Monfils conducted himself on

the court, but the way Vesely hit the cover off the court all the

time. Eventually, he went through in five sets. Just over the road from

him, Richard Gasquet was playing Nick Kyrgios of Australia. Gasquet

was two sets to love up in this match. The Australian fought back to

two sets all. Eight games all in the decider.

Took a bit of the pace off the forehand and whipped it across

court. Gasquet showing a few signs of

frailty here. It is a good shot. It is on the

line! What an amazing point. First the

backhand slice that pulled Gasquet so far out of court and then the

whipped forehand that landed on the baseline.

Good work. Kyrgios will serve for it.

Kyrgios has the looks and the talent to be a big star in this game. He

was absolutely overwhelmed at the end. Remember the name.

The third Frenchman bailed them out, this is Tsonga against Querrey. This

is Tsonga winning it eventually by 14 games to 12. Let's go back to

that Kyrgios match because the benefit he and Lleyton Hewitt had,

and all of the Australians, is this gaggle of supporters who are called

the Fanatics. They follow them wherever they go and make a lot of

noise! Our own Aussie, Pat Cash went to meet them.

We know that nobody can sing and support the Australians like these

guys, the fanatics. You seem to be all over the world. How do you get

the tickets? You steal them don't you, like true Australian convicts!

STUDIO: Kyrgios is only the third person in grand slam history, all of

them, to have nine match points against him and to come back and

win. No mean feat. Let's go back to the second part of our roundup, our

fashion review. Remember these? Wimbledon is one of

the few places white socks are still in. Stan Wawrinka is hardly a

dedicated follower of fashion, dressed down Thursdays is more his

thing. He beat Lu today to reach Wimbledon's third round for the

first time in five years. White has always been the new black at

Wimbledon and its suits Germany's Andrea Petkovic. Falling lead to

strapping but winning was not to be denied her against Romania's

Irina-Camelia Begu. The 15th seed has fallen out of fashion but this

Suarez was beaten, not banished for biting. Suarez Navarro knocked out

by Dias. It is size extra large for American's John Isner. The legendary

Marathon man made the third round for the first time in six attempts.

Almost time to put a sock in it but first news that almost making his

debut in round three is the Canadian eighth seed, Milos Raonic. He had a

straight sets victory against Jack Sock, our mystery man! STUDIO: Tim

Henman was commentating on Roger Federer. Quite shaky, the way Rafa

Nadal. Him out of that hole. We saw that he was down a point in

the second set tie-break. Nadal has this amazing competitive spirit, he

did not play his best today but he was able to dig himself out of a

hole. Which is obviously what champions do. I am sure what Roger

Federer said in his post interview will resonate in certain quarters

because people will read into what he said, what ever they choose to.

When people watch you play, they say, Roger looks in a hurry, do you

guys think like that? Not really, I don't take that much time.

Especially if points go a couple of points rallies. I don't see any

point in taking more than ten seconds between points. I think it

is important for spectators in the stadium and also, especially on TV,

that we keep it moving and I tried to do that without rushing my

opponent, without not being focused, so I am happy I am able to play that

way, but I understand not everybody can play that way, today was not

physical in anyway so I am happy. That was his immediate thoughts

after he had won his match against Gilles Muller of Luxembourg. In

grand slam 's these days, you are only supposed to have 20 seconds

between points and Rafa Nadal was continually at 25. Was that a slight

barb from Roger? Hats in a roundabout way. -- perhaps in a

roundabout way. It is easy for him to say that when he has just come

off serving 25 aces. Rafa Nadal has a different style of play. I would

say that the bigger issue is in Grand Slams, they are meant to be

taking 20 seconds in between and on tour, it is 25 seconds. I think 25

seconds between points is the right number, because these rallies are so

physical, when they are playing 30, 40. They had a 54 shot rally in the

Andy Murray final last year. Quick word about Andy Murray's prospects

tomorrow. It is a good draw. I have been impressed with the way he

started. Bautista Agut won last week, so he comes in off a good

year. He is obviously doing something right. Likewise, it will

not be a match Andy Murray takes lightly but I do expect him to

progress. Over Djokovic start things off on Centre Court tomorrow. --

Novak Djokovic. From what we have seen today, the

interesting thing about Nadal struggling and a couple of other

things, the strength in depth in men's games, do you think the cream

are just that fraction ahead of the rest? I do but when you see Kyrgios

coming through against Gasquet, winning in these epic five set

matches, that is the beauty of it because we just do not know what is

going to happen. But still you really have the top four seeds who

look like they are progressing nicely. Thank you very much. A
