Day 5 Today at Wimbledon

as the end of the first week comes near, the pressure intensifies.

Kvitova and Venus Williams knowing that one will go out today. Murray

looking for a win in straight sets. We were guaranteed rain today but

barely a drop fell so we have a lot of tennis twos -- to discuss with

Lindsay Davenport and the man in the empty chair, John McEnroe. The first

thing we are going to show you is the men's number one seed Novak

Djokovic, playing Gilles Simon, hoping it would be easier than his

game against Radek Stepanek. Early on there was sparring so here we are

with Simon serving 5-4 down in the first set.

He is up against it again. I love you, Novak! Djokovic said, that's

fine. I love you more, Novak! OK, everyone

settle down. Wild from Simon, Djokovic has the

first set. Boris watching approvingly and he

used to throw himself around the court in the old day, but not with

those effects. Djokovic took what a lot of weight on his elbow, his

upper arm, whatever, it required a lot of treatment. He went to

hospital for a scan after the match but his men say he is going to be

OK. Let's pick this up in the third set now, with Djokovic two sets to

the good. You never know what is going to

happen with a net call. This one just sat up perfectly for Novak to

put away. A little thing like that getting him a chance at a crucial

stage in the match. Again, doing so much so well, Simon,

just can't find the final killer touch. Suddenly the end might be

drawing near, two break points for Djokovic.

He is the man who will not go away at the other end of the court. Simon

eventually manages it. What defence from Djokovic!

That is very well played by Gilles Simon, the two points disappear.

UMPIRE: Game, Simon. Two break points that were near enough match

points saved. If they weren't match points, this

one was. There were one or two moments today where Djokovic blinked

and Simon had an early break and he thought he might get back into the

match but with that emphatic finish Djokovic got back in -- Djokovic

finished it. So, John McEnroe has appeared miraculously and you did

commentate on that match, so what was your assessment?

The good news is that when he started to play, he went right at it

again and nothing was wrong, no excuses. Simon, he is a weird guy to

play, he does not look like he is happy to be out there. Someone tell

this guy that this is a great job, please! You're on the Centre Court

of Wimbledon, so Djokovic has played two guys, Radek Stepanek who gets

under your skin and Simon, where you feel he is sucking the life out of

you for reasons you cannot explain. You are happy to get two days off! A

thought on Djokovic? He has to be happy with his first week. He has

lost one set. When I saw him fall, I thought this Wimbledon could be over

for him. He came back well from that and we will see how the arm does,

but he has the whole weekend off. Maybe Simon is a stand-up comedian

in his part-time! While that game was going on, lead now was playing

Barbora Zahlavova Strycova -- Li Na.

That is stunning from Li Na. She needs something to get her going

here. The best account of the match so far, cannot do it? -- the best

have to say, perhaps it is the figure skating background, she is

It is long, it was not challenge, oh, it is being challenged. Strycova

and her team seem convinced it is a long way from that line. It is in!

Oh my goodness! Well, between them they have very few challenges

right. If she could, she would like to challenge the challenge! Her team

are trying to get to refocus and concentrate. The crowd is on their

She is there! Strycova has the biggest win of her career! The

biggest upset in the woman's draw so far. --

from Halep. It is time to have a look at the weather. We have a mixed

they were beyond criticism. He sizzled again in round two against

the Croatian. He won in straight sets. John is an air will be serving

How came following the victory for Caroline Wozniacki. She beat the

Croatian -- hail. Today, it was all hail Caroline Wozniacki. Marin Cilic

is currently playing Tomas Berdych. As you can see, Chris Guccione is

Cilic. Halep did not look good. I love the way she fought at the end.

You can see how much it means to her. I was more surprised about Li

Na. She has one month to prepare for grass. She does not play any grass

court tournaments and came here with no matches and it showed. She was

rusty and lost a lot of big points and now the Australian Open champion

goes out early. You can say I want to come in fresh, but there is fresh

and unprepared. That is the risk you take. My greatest rival Bjorn Borg

never played a tournament, it worked out well for him. Novak Djokovic

decides he doesn't want to play, he seems OK. Rafa Nadal feels like he

needs matches, the same with the women. You do not see Serena

Williams and Venus Williams playing a lot of prep tournaments. To each

his own, it is unpredictable. Does Halep looked like a potential

finalist. The surface will beat have. She has the big looping

swings. -- will be tough for her. Talking about potential women

finalists, the match of the Championship so far took place

between two former champions Petra Kvitova and Venus Williams. They are

still competitive. Here we are at the business end of the competitive

first set. Her footwork not quite as precise as

soupy, perhaps loses half a step at times, contributes to the unforced

net, he is so quick, he has everything covered.

this was the match point, indicative of the quality of the match through

the afternoon. How is that for a winning shot? A real five set

thriller on Court One and a five set match on Court Two today set over

two days seeing Jerzy Janowicz beating Lleyton Hewitt. You can tell

by the way Hewett says good buy... Are we saying goodbye to him

forever, John? I think so. Look at the kind of people he is up against,

he is five foot ten, five foot 11, weighing Jerzy Janowicz. He has so

much to be proud of. -- playing Jerzy Janowicz. What about Venus

today? Had she won, that would have been a fantastic last hurrah. It is

the best game she has played for quite some time. They played 36

service games, only two breaks of serve. Very hard-hitting grasscourt

tennis and it was a shame because Venus was moving forward, playing

like the Venus of six, seven years ago, but Kvitova is tough and a

left-hand serve is tough to defend on grass. We talked about Jerzy

Janowicz being huge but these days size is not everything in tennis.

They say good things comes in small packages. Just ask America's Lauren

Davis, five foot two inches. She won the first set but unfortunately lost

the next two. Cibulkova is five foot three. The Czech beat the Slovakian

in straight sets. Cibulkova had better luck chasing off the pigeons.

Pick on someone your own size. Larger the Britta knocked out Maria

Sharapova last year but Radwanska was head and shoulders above her

Portuguese opponent today. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, six foot two

inches, which comes in Handbook -- in handy when you have lost your

Keys. He was determined to give himself a day off tomorrow and he

beat Jimmy Wang in straight sets. He is a danger to Novak Djokovic.

Murray is still in after three pretty straightforward matches. But

this taboo -- Bautista Agut was no match for him. What did you make of

him? I thought he looked great. Getting to the semis of the French

Open was great for him, he looks healthy. It was a rough draw for

Rafael Nadal, history with Rosol, lots of stress, so he will be hoping

to get any easier time tomorrow. Can you pick a couple of names from the

women's draw? I would go for Kvitova, she is the favourite to win

the tournament. Maria Sharapova is playing tomorrow and so is Roger and

Bradley Wiggins, Bobby Charlton and a whole lot more sporting stars will
