Once upon a time, there was a boy called Marcus with bags of talent

:00:48.:00:54.

and a promising tennis player. But he lacked discipline and called

:00:55.:01:00.

himself a loser. Then he met a girl who said, don't give up your dream

:01:01.:01:06.

of one day playing at Wimbledon. And today that dream from Marcus Willis

:01:07.:01:10.

comes true, because he is going to be stepping out on Centre Court

:01:11.:01:13.

against the greatest player of all time. He is in the second round

:01:14.:01:18.

against Roger Federer. You couldn't make it up. On Today at Wimbledon,

:01:19.:01:28.

we will be wallowing in the show court showdown between Willis and

:01:29.:01:35.

Federer, and we will discuss the defending champion, Novak Djokovic,

:01:36.:01:40.

and talk about Johanna Konta. This time last year

:01:41.:01:42.

on the first Wednesday, we had the hottest temperatures ever

:01:43.:01:44.

recorded at Wimbledon. Today, back to the kind

:01:45.:01:46.

of weather we're used to. Persistent drizzle for hours,

:01:47.:01:49.

a vague hope of play on the outside courts and the committed

:01:50.:01:52.

were rewarded late in the day, I am joined here in the studio by

:01:53.:02:02.

John McEnroe in Lindsay Davenport. Welcome to you both. I always wanted

:02:03.:02:09.

to win an indoor major, one of my biggest regrets is not playing under

:02:10.:02:13.

the roof at Wimbledon. And we would have heard you so clearly, to! It

:02:14.:02:17.

would have been potentially like a circus atmosphere. That is what you

:02:18.:02:21.

need on a grey day like this. You need the most unlikely

:02:22.:02:22.

story you can imagine. You need the epic underdog/overlord

:02:23.:02:25.

battle on Centre Court. If this is a time for heroes, then

:02:26.:02:40.

Marcus Willis is an unlikely one. It is an amazing story, the 25-year-old

:02:41.:02:46.

from Slough. If this was a script you sent to Hollywood, they would

:02:47.:02:52.

reject it. This was the story of a talented boy who lost his way. He

:02:53.:02:57.

played at Wimbledon as a junior, but had no hope of returning as a

:02:58.:03:04.

senior. I was a loser, I was overweight, I was convinced I was

:03:05.:03:09.

just going to go and coach. I met a girl who told me I was being an

:03:10.:03:13.

idiot. We got to know each other and I said, don't go. Give it another

:03:14.:03:18.

shot, please don't go. So he stayed, but this shouldn't have happened.

:03:19.:03:23.

First the hurdles between him and the first round were surely too

:03:24.:03:27.

high, and even when he got there, it was world number 772 against the man

:03:28.:03:36.

ranked 54th. COMMENTATOR: What a glorious stroke

:03:37.:03:40.

from Willis, and he is continuing to enjoy the occasion. Marcus Willis

:03:41.:03:44.

has romped into the second round of Wimbledon 2016.

:03:45.:03:49.

Some always believed. A small band of followers braved the queue, then

:03:50.:03:56.

removed their shoes. # Shoes off if you love Willis!

:03:57.:04:03.

Bigger feet awaited. You are going to be playing Roger Federer next.

:04:04.:04:08.

You are just laughing in disbelief! It is just a great opportunity, what

:04:09.:04:14.

I have dreams since I was young. I am just loving every minute. People

:04:15.:04:18.

will hear about it, people will know about it, so you have to support

:04:19.:04:25.

him, rightfully so. As he prepared for the match of his life, perhaps

:04:26.:04:29.

Marcus Willis will have reflected on a song he has taken to singing with

:04:30.:04:33.

his girlfriend. In the words of Freddie Mercury, cap toggle play the

:04:34.:04:50.

game. -- Play The Game. And he was determined to give the crowd and his

:04:51.:04:53.

fans what they had come to see, but mainly to have fun out here. To play

:04:54.:05:00.

the game as it should be played. Players with heavy slice on both

:05:01.:05:05.

sides, he has a strong lefty serve as well, but not enough to bother

:05:06.:05:10.

Federer in the opening set. It took awhile for things to settle, despite

:05:11.:05:12.

the odd of brilliance. At times, it seemed like exhibition

:05:13.:05:26.

tennis, it was great stuff. But the first set raced away in favour of

:05:27.:05:30.

the seven times champion, Federer winning 6-0. We will pick it up in

:05:31.:05:36.

the second, Willis serving, Federer having held at the very beginning.

:05:37.:05:42.

JOHN McENROE: Lets hope he gets on the board here.

:05:43.:05:56.

ANDREW CASTLE: Rilee? UMPIRE: Mr Willis challenges the

:05:57.:06:10.

call. And it is in! CHEERING

:06:11.:06:23.

A standing ovation coming up. We need to put Roger in the second row

:06:24.:06:54.

here, come on. In years to come he will say, the

:06:55.:07:26.

first half an hour wasn't very good, but I was superb after that! 29

:07:27.:07:27.

minutes played. CHEERING

:07:28.:08:17.

Yes! You beauty! This thing has changed

:08:18.:08:26.

on Centre Court for Marcus Willis. He storms to his first game.

:08:27.:08:31.

Willis' girlfriend, his parents, his friends celebrating as he got his

:08:32.:08:41.

first game on the board. We join it later in the second set.

:08:42.:08:55.

No shortage of touch, Marcus Willis. He plays for the Warwick boat club,

:08:56.:09:03.

coaches up there. You can have him for ?30 an hour.

:09:04.:09:12.

JOHN McENROE: I am thinking the rate has gone up! It deserves to. He is

:09:13.:09:24.

out here playing this tennis match, overwhelming, as we would expect,

:09:25.:09:25.

the first set. You don't win seven matches by

:09:26.:09:44.

chance. He came through qualifying and prequalifying, and that first

:09:45.:09:45.

round victory. He has got good feel for the ball

:09:46.:10:06.

and hands. He is trying to do the near impossible, which is get Roger

:10:07.:10:11.

Federer off-balance. Grimacing a bit, with that shoulder

:10:12.:10:20.

tightening up. UMPIRE: Correction, the ball was

:10:21.:10:52.

good. But was overruled, he is going to have a look at it.

:10:53.:10:53.

UMPIRE: The ball was called in. It was in. Roger says, why did you

:10:54.:11:08.

do it in the middle of a good white? Replay the point. Mr Federer has two

:11:09.:11:16.

challenges remaining. That is what he actually said.

:11:17.:11:23.

The Kirk that. -- look at that. CLARE BALDING: A second game on the

:11:24.:11:39.

board, but Federer, having broken from a 3-2 lead, served out to take

:11:40.:11:44.

the second set 6-3. But Willis was not just enjoying it, he was really

:11:45.:11:48.

warmed up Tommy was laying great tennis, we join it in the third,

:11:49.:11:50.

2-2, Willis to serve. UMPIRE: Mr Willis is challenging the

:11:51.:13:05.

ball. Good idea to challenge, he might actually get the point. Let's

:13:06.:13:12.

see if he will. The ball is in, that is 40-0! I think they should give

:13:13.:13:20.

Willis the point. That call was made after.

:13:21.:13:26.

UMPIRE: Replay the point. That is seven times winning

:13:27.:13:29.

Wimbledon, because that had no bearing on that return. He needs a

:13:30.:13:33.

break, this guy. BOOING

:13:34.:13:40.

That's it. That is the last time I support him!

:13:41.:13:49.

CHEERING He brought out the hammer on that

:13:50.:14:00.

one, said, no chance, disrespect me, you seven time champion. Greatest of

:14:01.:14:05.

all time person from Switzerland. CHEERING

:14:06.:14:15.

UMPIRE: Willis lead 3-2. CLARE BALDING: The crowd were

:14:16.:14:22.

desperate for the fightback to begin, but there is a reason Roger

:14:23.:14:26.

Federer has won more Grand Slam titles than anybody else. Here he is

:14:27.:14:28.

serving for the match. That was unusual to say the least.

:14:29.:14:53.

Feeling the pressure to close this out.

:14:54.:15:05.

Even seven time Wimbledon champions are human. Two inexplicable misses.

:15:06.:15:47.

But he can shrug it off so well, just move on. CROWD: I love you,

:15:48.:15:59.

Roger! LAUGHTER

:16:00.:16:13.

No eight game for Marcus Willis. The handshake will be warm.

:16:14.:17:18.

I was personally very intrigued about his story before he was even

:17:19.:17:25.

in my section of the draw, just him qualifying in itself was massive,

:17:26.:17:28.

let alone him winning the first round and having the draw to play on

:17:29.:17:31.

Centre Court, so I thought it was extremely cool. I even watched the

:17:32.:17:36.

BBC programme this morning about the build-up of other fans coming and

:17:37.:17:39.

what they were going to sing, it'll put me on the right mood and I

:17:40.:17:47.

wasn't disappointed. The crowd was fantastic and I thought markers did

:17:48.:17:54.

really well. And the man that they call Willbomb is here in the studio

:17:55.:17:57.

with us. It was amazing from start to finish. What did Federer say to

:17:58.:18:04.

you before you walked out on court? I met him earlier, my girlfriend and

:18:05.:18:07.

mum wanted a photo with him, and he has been a true gent. And that

:18:08.:18:14.

difficult thing of who goes first through the door, did he de Vrij the

:18:15.:18:23.

choice? He just let me go, I was going to give him the choice. I have

:18:24.:18:28.

to ask you, when you qualified and beat Berankis in the first round,

:18:29.:18:33.

and you knew you were going to play Roger Federer, did you think there

:18:34.:18:36.

was a moment when you thought you could beat him? It is like a fairy

:18:37.:18:42.

tale. I had a plan for the match, I believed I could win it. Rightly or

:18:43.:18:50.

wrongly. What was the plan? Get him moving, hit more to his backhand,

:18:51.:18:54.

but obviously he is the best player of all time, it is hard to do. Is

:18:55.:19:04.

there one single moment of the match you will remember? The whole thing

:19:05.:19:09.

was ridiculous, there were good points and bad points. Did you check

:19:10.:19:13.

your heart rate before you started? Just before you walked out there? It

:19:14.:19:21.

was awesome. The whole thing was amazing. I wasn't really that

:19:22.:19:29.

nervous. I loved your attitude throughout, because you were so

:19:30.:19:32.

appreciative. Your sister there is almost in tears, your girlfriend is

:19:33.:19:37.

so proud of you, look at this hub between your parents, which was so

:19:38.:19:41.

nice. You just knew this was the moment of your life. So far. I don't

:19:42.:19:47.

know how I am ever going to beat this, playing as a prequalify and

:19:48.:19:52.

qualifier, won a match here as well, and then that, I held it together

:19:53.:19:58.

but it was so good. Did you really nearly cry? Yes, I was close. Have

:19:59.:20:04.

you had a chance to talk to any of your gang, your parents, Jenny? Five

:20:05.:20:09.

minutes with Jenny, less. I spoke to my coach a little bit. The first set

:20:10.:20:17.

went by very fast. When you are playing someone like Federer, and he

:20:18.:20:21.

can get back shots that nobody else can, and this by the way we think is

:20:22.:20:26.

shot of the day, you getting up from the slipped then actually lobbed

:20:27.:20:30.

him, and it came off, but when you are nervous, and you have this

:20:31.:20:34.

massive event, what happens? What can you control and what can't you

:20:35.:20:39.

control? I can control my game. I can't control what Roger Federer

:20:40.:20:43.

does. I can try to hit the ball where he can't hit a winner off it,

:20:44.:20:48.

which is quite specific, actually. But yes, as I said, it is just the

:20:49.:20:53.

whole thing is just incredible. There is a rumour that you are

:20:54.:20:59.

scheduled to play a match tomorrow in county tennis, is that right?

:21:00.:21:04.

Yes, Coventry league. It is kind of a big deal. I am playing with Gavin.

:21:05.:21:14.

It is a must win game. Have you had Gavin played a lot together? We have

:21:15.:21:18.

played two matches and we are unbeaten! Is your shoulder OK for

:21:19.:21:24.

that match? I am a little bit sore, I will ring Gavin after. I will want

:21:25.:21:30.

to play, but I will say about my movement. My first match I played

:21:31.:21:35.

here in 1977, I was in the juniors, and I was in the quarters of the

:21:36.:21:39.

main draw, and they told me if I lost the quarterfinal match that I

:21:40.:21:42.

would have to play the juniors, so that gave me incentive, when you are

:21:43.:21:46.

feeling pressure, you had to beat Federer, you had to play this club

:21:47.:21:51.

match tomorrow? This is just a warm up for the Coventry league! Your

:21:52.:21:58.

ranking is going to go flying up, not your all-time high, though, you

:21:59.:22:03.

will be in the 400s after this. What will you set yourself as your next

:22:04.:22:09.

target? I want to be a top 100 tennis player, and I think I'm good

:22:10.:22:12.

enough to, so that is the process. I'm going to work very, very hard,

:22:13.:22:17.

as I have done in the last two years, hope to stay injury free and

:22:18.:22:21.

give it a good go. Well, we wish you well. You gave a lot of people a lot

:22:22.:22:24.

of entertainment, and it is maybe what we needed right now, so well

:22:25.:22:31.

done. Good luck! Federer saying that this shouldn't be the end, and he

:22:32.:22:34.

hopes that newspapers continue to follow you. What is your best

:22:35.:22:39.

surface? I think grass now! LAUGHTER

:22:40.:22:42.

A fair few matches were held over from yesterday,

:22:43.:22:44.

including Britain's number one woman, Johanna Konta,

:22:45.:22:46.

who resumed her match against Monica Puig.

:22:47.:22:47.

On her fifth visit to Wimbledon, Konta was trying

:22:48.:22:50.

On pure ranking, Konta should be the strong favourite. So good. What a

:22:51.:23:08.

start for Jo Konta. Explosive return.

:23:09.:23:15.

The serving is really doing the job. Well, she couldn't have creamed it

:23:16.:23:26.

would start as well as this. -- dreams it would start. And she races

:23:27.:23:32.

through the first set in 23 minutes. CLARE BALDING: So she was firmly in

:23:33.:23:38.

the ascendancy yesterday, but when they resume today, Puig started the

:23:39.:23:45.

better, we join with her leading 4-3. Simon Reed Sam Smith are the

:23:46.:23:46.

commentary box. SIMON READ: Is it my imagination, or

:23:47.:24:07.

is she not quite as quick as she was yesterday, Jo Konta? Her timing

:24:08.:24:10.

isn't quite right on her forehand. Got really down on that one. With

:24:11.:24:41.

all the rain we have had leading to the Championships, and the first few

:24:42.:24:45.

days, the courts are still release off. The ball is not bouncing up,

:24:46.:24:52.

the courts are not playing as they would do 20 years ago.

:24:53.:25:04.

She is in pole position, that's for sure. Maybe there is doubt as to

:25:05.:25:21.

whether it was going out, but oh, boy. Needs another do over.

:25:22.:25:27.

UMPIRE: Let, first service. And for a woman of five foot seven,

:25:28.:25:48.

she does have a penetrating serve. She did well because there was a

:25:49.:26:33.

ball at the baseline just before which looked like it could have been

:26:34.:26:37.

out, but she went with it. And won the point impressively.

:26:38.:26:41.

Right there, difficult shot. And here is break back point.

:26:42.:27:13.

Some meaty hitting. Mr Ban career on the left, a quiet man but a big

:27:14.:27:22.

influence on Jo Konta. Again, the serve doing the trick for

:27:23.:28:01.

Monica. Close. Thought about a challenge,

:28:02.:29:24.

but not getting involved. Sometimes what is a very handy for opponents

:29:25.:29:30.

of Puig is that you get the same ball coming back at you. It is flat,

:29:31.:29:35.

it is hard, it is heavy, but once you can get your head around it and

:29:36.:29:36.

get your timing, it is OK. There is a bit of work to do on that

:29:37.:30:01.

second serve us well. He wants to be back in Miami!

:30:02.:30:26.

A great response from Konta to break back there. We rejoin it with the

:30:27.:30:34.

Ayr serving to take the second set in a tie-break. -- with Puig.

:30:35.:30:47.

She has such a good temperament. And very good technique. It is a simple

:30:48.:30:59.

game efficiently produced. That is a good package.

:31:00.:31:14.

Two cracking backhands from each player.

:31:15.:31:29.

The loudest noise we have had so far.

:31:30.:32:43.

Konta on the brink of her first-ever win at Wimbledon.

:32:44.:33:04.

CHEERING And boy, does she finish with a

:33:05.:33:16.

flourish. A magnificent final game from the British number one. Well, I

:33:17.:33:24.

am obviously very happy to be in the singles event here. I did not put as

:33:25.:33:29.

much pressure on myself in that context. I have made the second week

:33:30.:33:34.

of Wimbledon with Mixed Doubles. I have experience of winning here but

:33:35.:33:38.

just not on the singles court. I am very happy to be involved and

:33:39.:33:45.

looking forward to the next round. Konta says she never looks at the

:33:46.:33:50.

drawer until she has two but she will be facing Eugenie Bouchard who

:33:51.:33:58.

is on the comeback trail. She won her match on Centre Court under the

:33:59.:34:04.

roof. That has changed the rules because you never used to be able to

:34:05.:34:07.

change courts. I wish they had kept playing. We

:34:08.:34:16.

were talking about some of these poor guys who are in the first round

:34:17.:34:21.

he will have to play three days in a row. I can think of an American, for

:34:22.:34:35.

example. John Isner, for example. Let's reflect on Jo Konta. That was

:34:36.:34:45.

a big win? It is huge. She is seeded 16 and had never won a match here.

:34:46.:34:51.

There is probably five or six women who are floaters that the seeds

:34:52.:34:55.

don't want to play. Puig was one of them. She was so intense out there

:34:56.:35:04.

in the court. For Johanna Konta, it does not get any easier. She has one

:35:05.:35:11.

of the tougher draws. She now plays Eugenie Bouchard. What is it about

:35:12.:35:16.

Konta that impresses you? You think she is a contender and does she

:35:17.:35:22.

think she is a contender? I don't think contender, you start small.

:35:23.:35:32.

She has made a Grand Slam semi. Her goal was probably second week, the

:35:33.:35:35.

last 16 quarters and then see what will happen. To picture her holding

:35:36.:35:39.

the trophy is a little too much. I think she can definitely do the

:35:40.:35:44.

second week. She is a fantastic athlete, she hits the ball well, she

:35:45.:35:49.

is an incredibly hard worker, she wants that. Sometimes those things

:35:50.:35:58.

can outweigh the game flaws. She was not the only British player in

:35:59.:36:00.

action. Besides Willis and Konta,

:36:01.:36:03.

there were two other British Heather Watson took the first set

:36:04.:36:05.

against Germany's Annika Beck 6-3, but then lost seven games in a row

:36:06.:36:08.

to concede the second and go Beck then suffered a nasty slip,

:36:09.:36:12.

and while she was having The players left court. Watson took

:36:13.:36:16.

the first set 6-3. Dan Evans' match was also

:36:17.:36:24.

halted by the weather, just as he and 30th seed

:36:25.:36:26.

Alexandr Dolgpolov were about to go Now to the the man who holds

:36:27.:36:29.

all four Grand Slam titles and was looking for a landmark win

:36:30.:36:34.

in a major. Novak Djokovic was up

:36:35.:36:44.

aginst a birthday boy. Djokovic's win over James Ward was

:36:45.:36:55.

his 20 night in a row. He was looking to make it 30 as his quest

:36:56.:37:02.

for a calendar Grand Slam continues. France's Adrian Mannarino also beat

:37:03.:37:06.

a British player in round one, Kyle Edmund in straight sets. His best

:37:07.:37:10.

run at Wimbledon was in 2013 when he reached the fourth round. Djokovic

:37:11.:37:19.

took the first two sets. We will join it with Djokovic a break up.

:37:20.:37:24.

Commentary from Mark Petchey and Tim Henman.

:37:25.:38:55.

MARK PETCHEY: That looked like the last chance, it probably is.

:38:56.:39:39.

TIM HENMAN: You sense Mannarino has enjoyed his time on Centre Court. He

:39:40.:39:56.

is not keen to leave yet. What he wants and what he's going to

:39:57.:40:03.

get our two different things. He did really well not to guess with

:40:04.:40:36.

his footwork. He gave himself a chance and he has

:40:37.:40:45.

another one here. For the first time in a match

:40:46.:41:19.

Mannarino broke the Djokovic serve. We take it into the tie-break.

:41:20.:41:45.

This is the best he has managed to play so far.

:41:46.:42:23.

It is his ability to keep repeating and keep his opponent at bay.

:42:24.:42:39.

Incredible timing, balance, I half-volley flicked on the baseline

:42:40.:42:42.

for a clean winner up the line. Absolutely outstanding!

:42:43.:43:29.

CHEERING Just under hit it. The right idea.

:43:30.:44:12.

Just under hit it and slightly overplayed it. Didn't need to be

:44:13.:44:15.

quite that good. And absolute delight to watch. A gem

:44:16.:44:50.

from the world number one. Maybe that was why Mannarino tried

:44:51.:45:22.

to do a drop volley that close because he has seen it so many times

:45:23.:45:24.

in the past. Saw the space appearing behind

:45:25.:46:01.

Mannarino and had to chase where he was. There was no going back.

:46:02.:47:30.

A dramatic end to just such an attractive point.

:47:31.:47:59.

Novak just checking with the umpire that he managed to dig that out. He

:48:00.:48:04.

did so. They are great players in their own

:48:05.:48:34.

right as we have seen with Mannarino. He has acquitted himself

:48:35.:48:38.

so well out here but ultimately, it looks like it will be in vain as

:48:39.:48:41.

Novak has two match points. It is his return that gets it. Novak

:48:42.:49:39.

notches up yet another win in a major title.

:49:40.:49:47.

Novak, congratulations today, your 30th consecutive Grand Slam victory.

:49:48.:49:55.

How much are you a keeper of records yourself? Every record achievement

:49:56.:50:01.

is obviously very pleasing to my years and to Almighty of course. --

:50:02.:50:15.

and to my team of course. To be able to stand alongside all-time greats

:50:16.:50:18.

such as Rod Laver is truly honouring and very flattering so identikit for

:50:19.:50:26.

granted. In contrary, it gives me even more motivation. I still want

:50:27.:50:33.

to keep on going and see if I can breaks and other records.

:50:34.:50:36.

Let's be honest, that is the achievement that will make headlines

:50:37.:50:40.

around the world, the 30th consecutive Grand Slam winner, a new

:50:41.:50:47.

open a record. The consistency of Novak is outstanding. Rod Laver is

:50:48.:50:52.

his idol, that was 47 years ago. Roger Federer could not do it,

:50:53.:50:59.

Rafael Nadal hasn't done it, this guy has done it. What this guy is

:51:00.:51:02.

doing is bordering superhuman, maybe it is superhuman. When you see him

:51:03.:51:07.

slip up even the tiniest bit, when he was going to finish off

:51:08.:51:12.

Mannarino, a fantastic tie-breaker, this is what gives the other players

:51:13.:51:18.

the challenges, trying to close the gap, the slightest bit of hope, that

:51:19.:51:23.

he will have an off day. Right now, you have got to appreciate it,

:51:24.:51:26.

because this is history making and he stays healthy -- if he stays

:51:27.:51:33.

healthy, it will be hard for Roger to keep that record. I remember when

:51:34.:51:42.

Sampras retired with 40 at the open. He walked off that court and he did

:51:43.:51:47.

not think someone is going to break in the next ten years. He has three

:51:48.:51:52.

guys now. Nadal is tied with him, Novak is two away and Roger passed.

:51:53.:51:57.

It is unbelievable what we have been watching in the last ten years.

:51:58.:52:02.

Djokovic does not seem to be lacking any motivation. He said he will use

:52:03.:52:09.

this to kick him on again. He has a lot to play for and I think he is

:52:10.:52:15.

always thinking about trying to catch Roger and Rafa. He has these

:52:16.:52:19.

guys playing in his era and he wants to be remembered as just as great as

:52:20.:52:23.

or greater. That gives them a lot of motivation. He has done such a great

:52:24.:52:29.

job of winning matches when he has not played his best. He played one

:52:30.:52:35.

match in Australia, 100 and forced errors, five sets, gets through the

:52:36.:52:40.

match no problem. Then he plays a level tennis through the tournament.

:52:41.:52:44.

Most players do not have the ability to improve as the tournament goes

:52:45.:52:50.

on. He was playing under the roof. Suddenly in the late evening we got

:52:51.:52:54.

some play on the outside courts so there is plenty for Paddy Geary to

:52:55.:53:00.

round up. One of those days, to sleep,

:53:01.:53:05.

perchance to dream of some tennis. I is opened, covers came off.

:53:06.:53:10.

Yesterday's rain kept even to Dick from defeat to Tomas Berdych. --

:53:11.:53:18.

Ivan Dodig. He managed to save two points and take it to a tie-break

:53:19.:53:22.

but Berdych knows you have to get these things finished when you can.

:53:23.:53:27.

He might be without a coach but the Number Ten seed is into round two.

:53:28.:53:34.

On Court 17, it was worth catching Andrea Petkovic's match against Nao

:53:35.:53:43.

Hibino when you could. Around 4.5 minutes later, the 32nd seed had

:53:44.:53:48.

beaten her opponent and the rain. Then it got wet. Those hours of

:53:49.:53:52.

waiting before they could get back on court. Even then Alexander Zverev

:53:53.:53:57.

had some DIY to do. That is the only thing the 24th seed needed to catch

:53:58.:54:01.

up. He recently beat Roger Federer will stop he beat Paul-Henri

:54:02.:54:08.

Mathieu. Yesterday, the weather deprived office of -- of a chance to

:54:09.:54:12.

get much of a look at Dominic Thiem. Hotly tipped by many. We only got

:54:13.:54:16.

glimpses this morning before the weather came in. He was back out on

:54:17.:54:23.

Florian Mayer. He rattled through the German in straight sets. Dominic

:54:24.:54:28.

Thiem has won more matches than any others on grass, clay and hard

:54:29.:54:36.

court. Was this a glimpse of a future champion? Wimbledon brings

:54:37.:54:40.

the best from Petra Kvitova. She barely gave Paul Sorana Cirstea shot

:54:41.:54:46.

in the first set. Kvitova is only the 10th feed but must be a decent

:54:47.:54:51.

bet given her record. Cirstea could not contain her. He will be able to?

:54:52.:54:57.

Centre Court is of course a bubble where you can ignore the weather and

:54:58.:55:00.

admire the tennis. Those lucky enough to be dry got a chance to see

:55:01.:55:08.

the third seed Agnieszka Radwanska in full flow.

:55:09.:55:15.

Too much for Kateryna Kozlova. Radwanska lost here four years ago.

:55:16.:55:22.

She will have her rise on a happier ending now.

:55:23.:55:29.

A lot of people were impressed with Belinda Bencic. She beat Pironkova

:55:30.:55:37.

6-2, 6-3. That was her first experience on Centre Court.

:55:38.:55:43.

Now, we talked a lot about Marcus Willis but we did not talk about

:55:44.:55:51.

Roger Federer. Who?! And how he handled the situation of the crowd

:55:52.:55:57.

not being with him which is rare. He said in 1999 he thought it was at

:55:58.:56:03.

the last time in this tournament that the crowd was for the opponent.

:56:04.:56:08.

It did not feel like a match, it felt like an exhibition.

:56:09.:56:15.

Fortunately, Willis started playing tennis and made it at least

:56:16.:56:22.

semi-competitive. His game plan was to bring Roger in and use those drop

:56:23.:56:26.

shots and drop volleys. That helped Roger because he is a little

:56:27.:56:31.

hesitant about moving forward. He is not sure about his knee. It could

:56:32.:56:38.

have been believe it or not, a blessing in disguise, this big win!

:56:39.:56:41.

We are going to get shot of the day to Marcus Willis. It was a good one.

:56:42.:57:09.

COMMENTATOR: That was unbelievable! Roger was laughing but he was

:57:10.:57:20.

laughing even more when the match was wrapped up. I asked Marcus if

:57:21.:57:24.

there was ever a moment when he thought he could win and I think the

:57:25.:57:29.

honest answer would have been No and there was never a moment Roger

:57:30.:57:32.

thought he would lose. Those are nice matches when you walk on the

:57:33.:57:36.

court and play theirs. Let's have a look at tomorrow's order of play.

:57:37.:57:45.

Play on the outside courts starts at 11 o'clock. Kei Nishikori is

:57:46.:57:50.

struggling with injuries. He is up against Julien Benneteau. Then we

:57:51.:57:56.

have Andy Murray in his second-round opponent. It is the same opponent he

:57:57.:58:03.

faced in 2013. And then join a Konta up against Eugenie Bouchard. --

:58:04.:58:07.

Johanna Konta. Dominic Thiem, a very exciting

:58:08.:58:26.

Austrian player will be playing. Heather Watson has still got to

:58:27.:58:29.

finish off against and Quebec who will have had treatment now for her

:58:30.:58:36.

ankle injury -- Annika Beck. You can join Sue Barker on BBC Two. We will

:58:37.:58:43.

be an slightly later tomorrow which will not bother you because you will

:58:44.:58:50.

not be here! It will be 9:30pm for those who want to catch up on the

:58:51.:58:57.

day's play. I will have a cold beer and be watching! It was a rain

:58:58.:59:01.

disrupted day but we had a man who made us smile, made us laugh and

:59:02.:59:05.

showed us that sport is fun.

:59:06.:59:10.
