Hello, here in York we are getting ready to counter the new United

:01:21.:01:28.

Kingdom champion. He will be young, exciting, and a delicious potter

:01:28.:01:33.

and the left-hander. But that will apply to either of a hour

:01:33.:01:42.

contestants. England's Judd Trump against Northern Ireland's Mark

:01:42.:01:52.
:01:52.:01:54.

Allen is a sign of things to come. Brilliant match, I enjoyed every

:01:54.:02:04.
:02:04.:02:15.

shot. He has played some marvellous It is Judd Trump's night. He goes

:02:15.:02:25.
:02:25.:02:25.

through to his first ever UK Championship final. I had a great

:02:25.:02:28.

season reaching the World Championship and the fact that I

:02:28.:02:33.

have been able to reach this championship finals shows how a I

:02:33.:02:41.

am coming on, because I have not been playing my best snooker.

:02:41.:02:51.
:02:51.:02:55.

Allen runs out a comfortable winner. He goes through by 6-2. He has won

:02:55.:03:00.

the last two frames to get himself into the semi-final for the second

:03:00.:03:09.

here in a row. Mark Allen is through to his first major final,

:03:09.:03:18.

the main-7. I am here to try and play snooker and when snooker

matches and won my first major tournament. The pressure that is

:03:28.:03:35.

supposedly on the does not bother me at all. I wonder how the two

:03:35.:03:41.

players are feeling backstage? If anyone can give us an indication of

:03:41.:03:51.
:03:51.:03:51.

the mood, it is our special guest this evening. Our special guest is

:03:51.:04:01.
:04:01.:04:09.

Stephen Henry, who appeared in 10 A lovely reception, I'd assume it

:04:09.:04:17.

means you would have liked to have brought you cue? Yes, it still

:04:17.:04:27.
:04:27.:04:30.

It does not get better than this. To be able to play snooker in front

:04:30.:04:36.

of this crowd is why you turn professional. What is going to

:04:36.:04:43.

define this session? I think the reality will dawn on them that they

:04:43.:04:52.

can now become UK champion. Now they have the chance to be the

:04:52.:05:02.
:05:02.:05:06.

champion. Will they learn a lot more about themselves?. He is,

:05:06.:05:16.

obviously Judd Trump has been to the World Championship final.

:05:16.:05:24.

issue you how the opening eight frames this afternoon played out.

:05:24.:05:30.

The first chance came to Mark Allen, when he missed this red into the

:05:30.:05:36.

middle pocket. Judd Trump took full advantage and with a 70 break, went

:05:36.:05:44.

and took the first frame. In the second frame, Judd Trump left

:05:44.:05:51.

himself to straight on the black and his chance was scuppered.

:05:51.:06:01.
:06:01.:06:04.

the next friend, Mark Allen compiled a marvellous 141 break.

:06:04.:06:09.

wanted to see the brown ball leave the table, but not like this. At

:06:09.:06:19.
:06:19.:06:25.

the interval, Mark Allen was 3-1 At 3-2 in front, Mark Allen had a

:06:25.:06:30.

chance at the blue ball in the middle. He missed it and was never

:06:30.:06:40.

in the frame after that. In frame seven, Judd Trump compiled a

:06:40.:06:47.

marvellous break, with the shot been the highlight. We have seen

:06:48.:06:53.

:08:15.:08:52.

So, a possible another eleven frames to play this evening. The

:08:52.:08:58.

winner will pocket not only the trophy but 100,000. In the

:08:58.:09:03.

commentary box, Ken Doherty and Willie Thorne. Good evening to you

:09:03.:09:13.
:09:13.:09:14.

Yes, and just a reminder of what happened at the Crucible fetor in

:09:14.:09:18.

April. I remember the standing ovation the players got that day.

:09:18.:09:28.
:09:28.:09:29.

This was much the same. Mark Allen had his chances this afternoon, but

:09:29.:09:34.

Judd Trump will be absolutely delighted to have finished the

:09:34.:09:44.
:09:44.:09:45.

Yes, what a reception at the Barbican Centre in York. It was a

:09:45.:09:55.
:09:55.:09:56.

slowly rapturous applause for both And it is nice to see the players

:09:56.:10:01.

acknowledge the crowd. They have been absolutely fantastic all week,

:10:01.:10:10.

the audiences. It has been fantastic been back in New York, it

:10:10.:10:20.
:10:20.:10:40.

He was a little bit unlucky. The Yes, he may just have to drop the

:10:50.:10:54.

ball ball in and take another red That is OK. He has a long straight

:10:54.:11:04.

red. Under normal circumstances, these are food and drink for Mark

:11:04.:11:14.
:11:14.:11:35.

I'm sure he was going to take the Yes, we thought he could see the

:11:35.:11:45.
:11:45.:11:55.

long red, but obviously he could I think that was key this afternoon,

:11:55.:12:05.

who was going to win the safety battle. There you can see from the

:12:05.:12:11.

statistics, Mark Allen won the safety battle quite easily. However,

:12:11.:12:21.
:12:21.:12:28.

Mark Allen could not have wished for a better start, leading 3-1 at

:12:28.:12:38.
:12:38.:12:56.

There we see adjourned tromp Just a look at how close he was.

:12:56.:13:04.

Yes, that is one of the advantages have been a quick player. If you

:13:04.:13:09.

are East Law player, you tend to look around and suddenly see things

:13:09.:13:19.
:13:19.:13:38.

which could go wrong. But when you The to red some of the black are

:13:38.:13:46.

the ones he will be playing for. He could have done with a little more

:13:46.:13:56.
:13:56.:14:10.

Mark can only watch. He had the first chance, but, unfortunately,

:14:10.:14:20.
:14:20.:14:27.

When a player has to go up for the blue ball or the baulk colours,

:14:27.:14:37.
:14:37.:15:09.

Obviously, the way he has played He played that very well. He is

:15:09.:15:14.

likely and part, but has the advantage of being able to play

:15:14.:15:24.
:15:24.:15:33.

black to bring these two reds just below it into play. That is not too

:15:59.:16:09.
:16:09.:16:09.

It was certainly risky, but he played it in such a way that he

:16:09.:16:19.
:16:19.:16:26.

Good shot. He might once more play that cannon. He did not quite catch

:16:26.:16:32.

it full. Has it gone astray? His body language suggests it might

:16:32.:16:42.
:16:42.:16:56.

He had to play with a bit of side. I am assured when he was detained

:16:56.:17:03.

that shot, it did not look in. But just a piece was perfect. Any

:17:03.:17:13.
:17:13.:17:23.

Mark Allen had the first chance. The beauty of this young man is

:17:23.:17:29.

that he can win a frame in what seems like seconds. It is of course

:17:29.:17:39.
:17:39.:17:42.

a few minutes, but it seems so Yes, that was the frame-winning

:17:42.:17:52.
:17:52.:17:56.

Some of the players have been taking up to 29 seconds earshot on

:17:56.:18:04.

average, as you can see just how quick this young man is. And apart

:18:04.:18:10.

from the first frame, this is the first time he has actually won a

:18:10.:18:20.
:18:20.:18:21.

frame at the first visit. But in its seventh frame, we saw one of

:18:21.:18:31.
:18:31.:18:35.

the most remarkable weeks. -- Judd Trump has made three centuries

:18:35.:18:45.
:18:45.:18:57.

saw four, so this could be the 4th When he played John Higgins, he

:18:57.:19:02.

scored three centuries, but he was not favourite to win. It is a

little different doing it when you The applause comes from this

magnificent packed house at the It does not get much better than

:19:32.:19:42.
:19:42.:19:42.

the last three are four frames that Mark Allen has now got it all to do,

:19:43.:19:52.
:19:53.:19:54.

Yes, it is looking rather tricky now for Mark Allen. I have got my

:19:54.:20:02.

three friends here. The task for Mark Allen has increased? Yes, he

:20:02.:20:07.

had a good start, but it does not take long for Judd Trump to get in

:20:07.:20:17.

among the balls, so it is an uphill task for him. John, how difficult

:20:17.:20:26.

is it when you see your opponent scoring points so quickly? Yes, it

:20:26.:20:35.

can be tough. He has got to win the next three frames I think.

:20:35.:20:43.

about the way he plays the game, Stephen? He just looks as if he

:20:43.:20:52.

loves it been out there. Yes, in terms of their demean or as

:20:52.:20:59.

professionals. Mark Allen got a bit on the weary side with the snooker

:20:59.:21:07.

tour, but Judd Trump appears to just love being in the limelight?

:21:07.:21:17.
:21:17.:21:29.

Yes, he has got the cars, he has A good break off by Mark Allen, but

:21:29.:21:39.
:21:39.:21:39.

Apology for the loss of subtitles for 44 seconds

:21:39.:22:19.

A good opening shot and nicely on There was a big pressure shot.

:22:19.:22:29.
:22:29.:22:44.

especially after losing a Ralph we were talking earlier about pot

:22:44.:22:54.
:22:54.:22:56.

success rate. It is normal that to win a tournament, you would expect

:22:56.:23:06.

to be up about and 95 %. You can see here that Mark has just nudged

:23:06.:23:16.
:23:16.:23:21.

A lot of players would just a played the cannon straight into the

:23:21.:23:30.

pack, but Mark decided against it. I could never have seen Ronnie

:23:30.:23:39.

O'Sullivan refusing that. But it does mean that shortly, he will run

:23:39.:23:49.
:23:49.:24:02.

He will be looking for an angle on the black after he pots this red.

:24:02.:24:10.

He will want to be nice and low on it. It does not look the best of

:24:10.:24:20.
:24:20.:24:28.

He managed to generate a lot of power. He may have got into the cue

:24:28.:24:38.
:24:38.:24:43.

He had to play this with reverse side. But he would not have had to

:24:43.:24:50.

do that if he had done it on the shot before. He is entitled to be

:24:50.:24:56.

slightly negative. If he was 6-3 ahead, he would probably have got

:24:56.:25:06.

down and played at shop without Yes, he is taking his time and

:25:06.:25:11.

thinking about it. It is hardly surprising given the baggage he has

:25:11.:25:21.
:25:21.:25:45.

Well, he has made a 40 break. But Yes, that was cleverly played, off

:25:45.:25:55.
:25:55.:26:04.

the cushion first. Now, he is in The red just above the pink goes

:29:11.:29:17.

from Judd Trump puts him seven in front. It is all about that last

:29:17.:29:27.
:29:27.:29:42.

He is on this red, but he would have liked to have a bit more of an

:29:42.:29:52.
:29:52.:30:02.

angle. He is going to screw back up He would have loved to have been a

:30:02.:30:07.

few inches further up. He is going to have to play this red from the

:30:07.:30:17.
:30:17.:30:19.

Just taking the rest out. That is exactly where he wants to leave the

:30:19.:30:27.

cue ball. About six inches from the blue spot. Or he could go to the

:30:27.:30:37.
:30:37.:31:07.

This is virtually a a frame ball. A At the moment, Willie, he is

:31:07.:31:17.
:31:17.:31:37.

absolutely flying. He hasn't missed This has been a break of the

:31:37.:31:44.

highest quality. Mark Allen had a 40 start. But it was still not

:31:44.:31:54.
:31:54.:32:02.

He's very, very good. He played some exhibition shots, but the key

:32:02.:32:08.

is to clear up when you're in front. He goes further clear at 7-3. There

:32:08.:32:13.

was a key point in this frame, but at this level you cannot refuse to

:32:13.:32:19.

go into the pack. He is on 40 points and he has a perfect angle

:32:19.:32:24.

on the black. I know there is two or three loose reds, but you have

:32:24.:32:30.

to play that shot. He has a nice angle on the red and any contact on

:32:30.:32:35.

that red could bring a couple more reds into play. If he hits it on

:32:35.:32:41.

the inside he has the two reds on the right. If he hitsd it on the

:32:41.:32:48.

fuller side, -- hits it on the fuller side he still has this red.

:32:48.:32:53.

He gets another two reds, two blacks and goes into them and he

:32:53.:32:59.

has to rely on good luck. I agree he was unlucky not to get on one.

:32:59.:33:04.

But in this day and age, there is three and four players never refuse

:33:04.:33:14.
:33:14.:33:28.

Judd Trump is break off in frame 11 having one six. Ma'am has got to

:33:29.:33:37.

score quick and heavily. -- Mark Allen has got to score quick and

:33:37.:33:47.
:33:47.:34:08.

That is the first time today he has missed a ball by a mile. And if

:34:08.:34:14.

you're sat in your chair, you witnessed it Ken many years ago Wen

:34:14.:34:19.

you played Hendry and made six centuries and you're frightened to

:34:19.:34:29.
:34:29.:34:30.

play a shot. Every shot becomes a pressure shot. Even your safety.

:34:30.:34:40.
:34:40.:34:47.

Everything he is seeing is going in and he is hitting the cue ball with

:34:47.:34:57.
:34:57.:35:13.

Nice angle on the blue. Although he may go into the pack of reds here.

:35:13.:35:17.

Do you think Mark Allen would have played for loose red here? Probably

:35:17.:35:24.

would have done. This is the new games. Stephen Hendry does it and

:35:24.:35:34.
:35:34.:35:54.

Ronnie O'Sullivan does it. Stephen Just look at this. A perfect split.

:35:54.:36:04.
:36:04.:36:16.

Such power. And control of the cue This is snooker of the highest

:36:16.:36:26.
:36:26.:36:29.

Over the years we have witnessed Steve Davis and Ronnie O'Sullivan

:36:29.:36:39.
:36:39.:36:43.

at their best. But this guy is up Some may say he doesn't have their

:36:43.:36:47.

finesse. But it doesn't matter how you get the job done as long as you

:36:47.:36:57.
:36:57.:37:12.

Purposely playing a cannon to slow the white down and keep it at the

:37:12.:37:17.

top of the table. That shot is so essential to learn to keep things

:37:17.:37:26.

close. His pot success rate is up to 92%. The highest ever is 95.

:37:26.:37:36.
:37:36.:37:47.

Surely we won't get to that. 17 Cliff Thor brn used to chalk his

playing time and it looks like in another two or three minutes he

:38:52.:39:02.
:39:02.:39:18.

will have won the first three And there you see the Trump family.

:39:18.:39:28.
:39:28.:39:28.

14 of them I believe up from the Bristol area. I'm sure they're

:39:28.:39:38.
:39:38.:39:49.

My late brother used to say this guy is the real deal. It took a

:39:49.:39:55.

while to prove it, but boy has he proved it now. We have known about

:39:55.:39:59.

him since he was 14 and perhaps some of had given up on him,

:39:59.:40:06.

because it took so long. But it shows what talent he has got. Well

:40:06.:40:14.

done, Mark Allen, very well played. A bit of desperation, because he

of a shock. Now he is 60 behind. He A big target behind the yellow,

be able to knock the black safe. He has played it the other way around.

:44:25.:44:35.
:44:35.:44:51.

Which is not a bad idea to put a Christmas in York, there is no

better place and they have certainly had a Christmas present

:45:06.:45:08.

with this match. I bet you haven't had many questions asked about you

like this. What would you do if you were Mark Allen here? You could sit

there is a lot of communication via Twitter among the players and there

he will play Ding Junhui on Sunday 15th January. Trump plays on the

:49:50.:49:53.

Monday afternoon and Mark Allen on Tuesday. That is the situation and

:49:53.:50:03.
:50:03.:50:18.

WILLIE THORNE: Mark Allen cannot afford to lose another frame. He

:50:18.:50:28.

has to stop the rot. He must wonder what has happened, because he is

:50:28.:50:38.
:50:38.:50:39.

playing well, but just not given the chance. Well Mark, you have

:50:39.:50:45.

first chance again. You have got to score heavily. He needs a frame-

:50:45.:50:55.
:50:55.:51:14.

There is his girlfriend, Kyla watching. She has been with Mark

:51:14.:51:19.

all week and he has played some wonderful snooker. Even if he did

:51:19.:51:23.

lose, I don't think he deserves to get beat as he is at the moment.

:51:23.:51:28.

Because he has played a lot better than the score suggests. He was one

:51:28.:51:38.

Apology for the loss of subtitles for 44 seconds

A bit closer to this cushion than he would have liked. It makes this

:52:34.:52:44.
:52:44.:52:52.

A good shot and he is on the red. Just about. It was an excellent pot.

:52:52.:53:02.
:53:02.:53:20.

Complaining there he got a bit of a bounce off that baulk cushion. Came

:53:20.:53:26.

off faster than it went on. As long as he knocks this in, he has a

:53:27.:53:36.
:53:37.:53:55.

choice of red. Well done, good 74 or above is what he is looking

:53:56.:54:05.
:54:06.:54:10.

A must win frame for Mark Allen. Also he would love to win it in one

:56:11.:56:18.

He has already had 141 if the first -- in the first session of this

:56:28.:56:28.

It shows a lot of bottle. He had the first chance in the opening

Judd Trump has made four centuries in this tournament. Mark Allen is

:57:16.:57:26.

about to make his third. The 34th of this tournament. Well done Mark

:57:27.:57:36.
:57:37.:57:47.

This crowd have just witnessed four of the best frames of snooker you

:57:47.:57:57.
:57:57.:58:15.

He will certainly enjoy his tea during the international a bit

better. A great response from Mark Under this pressure, having lost

seven on the trot, this has been absolutely top drawer. A lot of

:58:47.:58:52.

applaud and a lot of people are standing, because that is what he

:58:52.:58:57.

deserved. Mark Allen has kept a foot hold in this match. But he

:58:57.:59:07.
:59:07.:59:09.

What a frame to win. What kind of character that Mark Kalman show

:59:09.:59:14.

under those circumstances? He could have fallen to pieces, but he is

:59:14.:59:18.

not that people person. It is an uphill battle, but it is important

:59:18.:59:21.

to keep concentration because you can get yourself back into it, we

:59:21.:59:26.

have seen it happen so many times before. Stephen, how do you assess

:59:26.:59:36.
:59:36.:59:36.

the scale of the task from the point of your Mark Allen? He has

:59:36.:59:41.

caught to stay among the balls. Judd Trump has been potting or malt

:59:41.:59:45.

balls. It would have been easy for Mark Allen to get rolled over, but

:59:45.:59:51.

he has shown fantastic character. What must he do? What can he do?

:59:51.:59:56.

The differences that Ricky Walden pit in his performance. I'm not

:59:56.:00:00.

sure on Judd Trump is going to do that. I am not sure he's going to

:00:00.:00:07.

get much from Judd Trump. He is 8-4 down despite those century plus

:00:07.:00:12.

breaks. A in terms of the comparison with that one to the

:00:12.:00:16.

final, Judd Trump, and his Ron to the Crucible final, how do you

:00:16.:00:25.

compare his form? Judd Trump has said he feels he is not playing as

:00:25.:00:30.

good as he can, and we all know that feeling. But he has had a

:00:30.:00:35.

tough draw. Ronnie O'Sullivan, Stephen Maguire, he is doing what

:00:35.:00:41.

is required, and in the first two frames, or were in 15 minutes, he

:00:41.:00:51.
:00:51.:00:52.

is so dangerous. How do you see it, Steve? Two things sprang to mind,

:00:52.:00:56.

snooker has not made a short clock, and any journalists who criticise

:00:56.:00:59.

snooker as boring and thing everyone agrees with them are

:00:59.:01:07.

totally wrong because that was pure entertainment out there. They a

:01:07.:01:10.

peddling an old story was up but actually, snooker is doing very

:01:10.:01:20.

well, thank you very much. Agreed, John? Agreed. You have to enjoy

:01:20.:01:26.

that, that was fantastic. There have been weeks to the format of

:01:26.:01:30.

this UK championship. No longer the best of 17 all the way through to

:01:30.:01:36.

the semi- finals, instead, best of 11 frames. It was not to everyone's

:01:36.:01:41.

liking, Mark Allen included. It seems ironic that he has performed

:01:41.:01:46.

to his best under those circumstances, but it is one of a

:01:46.:01:49.

number of changes that have taken place in snooker over the past 18

:01:49.:01:53.

months. Stephen Hendry has been assessing the current state of the

:01:53.:02:03.
:02:03.:02:11.

The last in the UK Championships were in York was in 2006, just five

:02:11.:02:16.

years ago, but in snooker terms, different era. History shows

:02:16.:02:21.

nothing lasts forever, and it tells us that when the revolution starts

:02:21.:02:26.

the world can change very quickly. You appreciation for the world

runner up, Stephen Hendry. I was in the final against Peter Ebdon, and

:02:30.:02:36.

our combined age at the time were 73. Fast forward five years and you

:02:36.:02:39.

would not need carbon-dating to establish the age of the finalists

:02:39.:02:44.

tonight, adding up to just 47, seven years younger than Steve

:02:44.:02:49.

Davis'! It is not just the age of the leading players that has

:02:49.:02:52.

changed. The stage they are performing on is almost

:02:52.:02:57.

unrecognisable. Gone are the outside tables. Gone is the

:02:57.:03:03.

dividing wall. Gone other two session matches over 19 frames. You

:03:03.:03:12.

can now watch two single session matches over 11 frames. Judging by

:03:12.:03:22.
:03:22.:03:27.

Shortening the UK two best of 11, to the man on the street is great

:03:27.:03:32.

news, buy a ticket, see a result in one session. Every player gets on

:03:32.:03:35.

television instead of half of the players so there are more

:03:35.:03:40.

commercial opportunities and more chances to be famous. A but, what

:03:41.:03:47.

do the players make of all the changes? Opinion is divided. A I

:03:48.:03:52.

think it is good. When the other fellow is potting lot of balls you

:03:52.:03:56.

can watch the other game and I quite like that! It makes it hard

:03:56.:04:00.

to focus on your match because somebody on the other table

:04:00.:04:04.

knocking in added break, it is quite easy to lose focus on your

:04:04.:04:09.

own game. Everyone plays on a television table. There are other

:04:09.:04:13.

players in the tournament who would probably be playing at the back in

:04:13.:04:18.

the cubicles. If you get to the venue, you should be playing on TV.

:04:18.:04:22.

In previous years you would have the first session wish felt flat

:04:22.:04:26.

because there was no result but with best of 11, you go out and you

:04:26.:04:30.

know there's going to be a result. I have enjoyed the best of 11

:04:30.:04:34.

format. It has been a success, the fact that so many people turned out

:04:34.:04:38.

to watch us, and part of that is because they are guaranteed to see

:04:38.:04:41.

a result,, and watch the snooker and somebody is going to win, and

:04:41.:04:46.

somebody is going to lose. listen to broadcast customers and

:05:51.:05:55.

recession market and the crowd money has gone from 3.5 million, to

:05:55.:05:59.

7 million, and these are staggering figures for a game that was more of

:05:59.:06:05.

want. The that extra money is the result of a game that has gone

:06:05.:06:09.

global. The explosion of popularity in China no longer makes their

:06:14.:06:18.

ranking tournaments on snooker's new frontier and will will the

:06:18.:06:22.

traditionalists might feel faint, the future of the game seems to be

:06:22.:06:26.

heading east. Those tournaments that we play in Asia in five years,

:06:26.:06:32.

there will be a lot of players from Asia, doing very well, hopefully,

:06:32.:06:38.

there will be three or four in the top 16 from Asia. The World

:06:38.:06:43.

Championships make the in China, in five years. The game is going to

:06:43.:06:49.

grow, worldwide. A demand in Asia is simply staggering. Next year we

:06:49.:06:53.

will end up with five or six ranking events in Asia, alone, and

:06:53.:07:01.

it could grow from there. China is now only half the story. This

:07:01.:07:06.

season has seen tournaments as far afield as Brazil and Australia, and

:07:06.:07:11.

in Europe, the snooker caravan has pulled up in Poland, Belgium and

:07:12.:07:17.

Germany. We have got talks going on in Turkey, Russia, Canada,

:07:17.:07:27.

Singapore, so we're looking at a More tournaments and more money -

:07:27.:07:32.

who could be unhappy? The answer is, quite a few people, because in this

:07:32.:07:36.

seemingly happy marriage between money and tournaments, there is

:07:36.:07:46.

after person, in the form of ranking points. -- a third person.

:07:46.:07:49.

In the good old days if you got your place in the top 16 you were

:07:49.:07:52.

there for the whole season and it was a passport to guaranteed prize

money and a place in every tournament. But, these days, the

:08:52.:08:55.

:08:55.:09:01.

every week. -- 10 million. Not all players are so enthusiastic about

:09:01.:09:11.
:09:11.:09:13.

:09:13.:09:17.

like playing in them, I think they are great, but sometimes you go to

:09:17.:09:23.

them and do not get paid anything to stop it is not fun or when you

:09:23.:09:29.

Law players if the might of doing well, it shows in the way that the

:09:32.:09:36.

ranking system is being done whereas before you could have a

:09:36.:09:40.

good season and it would not show that much. The scheduling could be

:09:40.:09:45.

a bit better. Not every week, because quite often I don't get to

:09:45.:09:54.

see much of my family and friends. But this is my job. This week, in

:09:54.:10:01.

York, the morals of discontent turned into a one-man course of

:10:01.:10:05.

rebellion as Mark Allen fired a broadside at the barrier and

:10:05.:10:09.

Snooker's new world order. I spoke my mind and that is what players

:10:09.:10:14.

need to do more, because people have said what I said, but a

:10:14.:10:19.

amongst themselves but are not man enough to see it at the public and

:10:19.:10:23.

to John Moss. I have been criticised for swearing on TV at

:10:23.:10:33.
:10:33.:10:33.

the press conference, -- 2 John list plus back. -- to journalists.

:10:33.:10:37.

But I stand by everything I said. Behind their headlines of

:10:37.:10:41.

showmanship were some serious issues. But going through establish

:10:41.:10:44.

diplomatic channels might have been more productive and less

:10:44.:10:51.

contentious. Mark Allen's comments were disappointing. They are on our

:10:51.:10:55.

main board and own 26% of World Snooker, so we have to listen to

:10:55.:11:00.

them, so the players company under Jason Ferguson's excellent

:11:00.:11:05.

leadership, we have regular meetings with players, so that we

:11:05.:11:08.

hear the views of the players before they make decisions. I can

:11:08.:11:12.

tell you that Mark Allen has never attended any of those meetings. So

:11:12.:11:17.

he does not feel strongly enough about it to take the trouble to put

:11:17.:11:25.

the point to his own association. So, what to make of it all? Your

:11:25.:11:28.

perspective probably depends on a number of factors, your age, your

:11:28.:11:33.

ranking position and your family commitments, amongst others. One

:11:33.:11:38.

thing is certain. The changes over the past two seizes amount to

:11:38.:11:42.

nothing less than a revolution in the structure of the game and if

:11:42.:11:48.

you fail to adapt to the new environment, your days are numbered.

:11:48.:11:52.

Very few people can fundamentally criticise the changes that have

:11:52.:11:56.

taken place, prize money is going through the roof, the number of

:11:56.:11:59.

championships has almost trebled and there is a great feeder system

:11:59.:12:03.

for young players to come through. But, as for the work load, there

:12:03.:12:08.

has been a lot of criticism about that. How many more tweaks are

:12:08.:12:14.

necessary to perfect this revolutionised system? I don't know,

:12:14.:12:19.

I haven't got a clue, but the history of the one is one where

:12:19.:12:24.

players were more or less paid to play, and if you are up there,

:12:24.:12:27.

whether you are having to speculate too much to accumulate, perhaps in

:12:27.:12:31.

the future you have to put your hand in your pocket a bit more if

:12:31.:12:34.

you want to be a snooker player, and from that perspective, times

:12:34.:12:39.

are changing. Is it a young hungry man's game these days, then?

:12:40.:12:44.

Absolutely, for someone like Judd Trump, a young, single guy with no

:12:44.:12:48.

commitments, place the could have the, hardly having to practise any

:12:48.:12:52.

more, it is fantastic, but for myself that is completely different.

:12:52.:12:56.

But I do think there are too many ranking points associated with the

:12:56.:13:06.
:13:06.:13:07.

small tournaments of the PTCs. But it is a great time to be coming

:13:07.:13:11.

into snooker. He under pinning some of the concerns shared by Mark

:13:11.:13:18.

Allen last week was this idea of tinkering with other events, most

:13:18.:13:24.

notably the World Championships at the Crucible. Judd Trump said it

:13:24.:13:28.

would be a catastrophe if they tinkered with what he called "the

:13:28.:13:33.

supreme test of snooker". Do you think it means change? Looking at

:13:34.:13:37.

the last few tournaments at Sheffield, there is a case for may

:13:37.:13:43.

be changing the first and second rounds, to best-of- 10 frames in

:13:43.:13:50.

the first two rounds. The second round to be changed. But that is

:13:50.:13:54.

only a personal viewpoint. Other players might want to go straight

:13:54.:13:57.

to 25 frames. That is the only thing you tinker with but

:13:57.:14:01.

everything else, leave it well alone. Neil Robertson suggested the

:14:01.:14:09.

other day that the changes in the championship back from the dead,

:14:09.:14:16.

There is a view that if you look at the semi-finals of the World

:14:16.:14:26.

time for people to keep their case that every match takes one day.

:14:26.:14:33.

Look at Wimbledon, the best of five future it might cut down that the

:14:33.:14:35.

frames and the World Championship, but they don't think it will have a

:14:35.:14:40.

go like that, but it might be best of 19 all the way through. There is

:14:40.:14:43.

an argument that with the standard being so high among suppliers

:14:43.:14:46.

generally, by the time we get to the final, sometimes we have not

:14:46.:14:51.

had a top quality of their, as you might expect, because the players

:14:51.:14:55.

are punched run by the end. always run the risk of someone

:14:55.:15:00.

winning a session ever, and for you guys, that is no good, but the

:15:00.:15:04.

World Championship has to be the ultimate test. I would say don't

:15:04.:15:10.

tinker with that too much. Plenty of discussion on and off the table

:15:10.:15:15.

this week. All of it in the beautiful city of York. It has been

:15:15.:15:20.

five years since we were last year and were delighted to be back.

:15:20.:15:28.

has been a ball bashing bonanza at the Barbican this week. That is a

:15:28.:15:34.

maverick bow-tie he is wearing. Quite a maverick player as well.

:15:34.:15:44.
:15:44.:15:50.

Great shot, what a fantastic shot. 1, 2, 3, 4, knock it in with the

:16:00.:16:02.

white, oh! Can you hear me, you, reading the programme? Can you hear

:16:02.:16:12.
:16:12.:16:41.

That is one way of getting on the Judd Trump, pointing at the table

:16:41.:16:50.

where he told him the cue ball was, you little fibber! Come on!

:16:50.:16:56.

much confidence have you taken from that that the war John? A lot!

:16:56.:17:04.

Ladies and gentlemen, Stephen Maguire! -- that victory over John.

:17:53.:18:06.

Where is that pink going? Surely not the middle pocket! We have had

:18:06.:18:11.

some fun in the last nine days. Judd Trump leads, but Mark Allen

:18:12.:18:17.

his tenacity personified. Guiding as home, Dennis Taylor and John

:18:17.:18:26.

No need to tell you about the atmosphere in the Barbican Centre,

REFEREE: settle down now, please! The referee is trying to remind

:18:54.:19:00.

we have it, Indies two. fantastic left-handers, and Mark

:19:00.:19:04.

Judd Trump has made a good break off, and there is no escape into

that right side of the table, because of a red that is just away

to force it round the angles. He's looking a bit stunned, there. He

There are a couple of reds available. As John mentioned, that

think when he went 8-3 behind people thought it would be a

Where is that cue ball going? He has gone too far. He may have left

a possible pot, the one next to the yellow. But Mark overlit that. But

:36:23.:36:30.

look at the way the reds are situated. One mistake and you would

:36:30.:36:34.

expect quite a sizeable break. In fact he is playing the safety shot

:36:34.:36:44.
:36:44.:37:16.

here. And it is a pretty good one. He is in oo -- a spot of bore here,

:37:16.:37:21.

Mark Allen. There is -- spot of bother here, Mark Allen. Nothing

:37:21.:37:28.

easy to nestle on to those two reds near the left corner. He can't come

:37:28.:37:35.

off a cushion and land on those, because there's a red in the way.

:37:35.:37:41.

It is one of those situations where in the end he might have to play a

:37:41.:37:51.

pot. But there is nothing sticking out at the moment for Mark to look

:37:51.:37:58.

at. Of course if he was to find a Part back to the baulk end, he

:37:58.:38:02.

would have to be wary not to leave that red that's near the yellow. He

:38:02.:38:06.

is in a spot of bother and me could come off the left hand side cushion

:38:06.:38:12.

and try to nestle into these two reds near the cushion. But the red

extreme left probably blocks that path. That is the natural ang toll

blocking that path. That is why he can't take that on. He may have to

put, as we sai, all your eggs in one independence ket and have a go.

-- in one basket and have a go. He was in a terrible situation there.

He needed a bit of luck to get out It was interesting, Judd Trump's

has taken a lot of those on this week. But he played the safety shot

at the right time and he is reaping the rewards. There is Steve and,

:43:20.:43:27.

That is a great response from Judd Trump. He was kept off the table

:43:27.:43:35.

for over half an hour. He was responding and mes now one frame

from his first major tournament. HAZEL IRVINE: One frame is Judd

Trump and what do you make of the way the match has been twisting and

:43:43.:43:46.

turn something particularly those magnificent back-to-back centurys

:43:46.:43:49.

from Mark Allen. He showed brilliant character. It is not

:43:49.:43:53.

getting to twitching hour, but if Mark Allen won that frame it was

:43:53.:43:58.

getting close to that. That was a massive frame for Judd to win and

:43:58.:44:04.

he has got four bites of the cherry before he can be champion. You --

:44:04.:44:10.

you have been there. What laps as you get to the line? -- happens. I

:44:10.:44:16.

don't think he will shy from it and if he sees a pot he will go for it.

:44:16.:44:22.

His temperament is sound. He had a barrage from Mark Allen, but he has

:44:22.:44:27.

come out and won the frame. Steve? Well I think he will get enough

:44:37.:44:51.

chances. One I think he will Judd Trump hoping he won't have to

out of position. Good safety from Judd and both players look Kay

We're going to keep showing you pictures of Judd's families up in

the Gods. It is a key shot coming up and they will know that. If he

:45:52.:45:58.

can open the reds when potting the black. We know how he tends to open

:45:58.:46:03.

the balls up. He just hit the one single red. Where is this red

:46:03.:46:13.

coming to? Everyone was expecting the balls to fly all over the table.

:46:13.:46:23.
:46:23.:46:36.

They knock so many difficult balls in, that when you they do miss one,

you're surprised. But that wasn't There will be one spectator

:47:21.:47:26.

Newcastle, where he has opened a new snooker centre there. And it

:47:26.:47:35.

will be packed, I'm sure, watching this. You can always tell when a

:47:35.:47:40.

player jumps up, Judd thought that was in. It couldn't have been much

:47:40.:47:50.
:47:50.:48:12.

A little bit short of pace this time. I'm not sure if there is a

:48:12.:48:19.

path past the blue, but no path as you can see, brown and green are

:48:19.:48:29.
:48:29.:48:31.

That looks good to me. There is a red near the right corner and I

:48:31.:48:38.

think the green will cover that. That is a very good shot from Mark

:48:38.:48:48.
:48:48.:48:54.

I don't think Judd can get past the green mere. A little tap on the

:48:54.:49:01.

table there tells us he can't. wondering if he could try the plant,

:49:01.:49:06.

there is a way around the back of the reds if he plays one red on to

:49:06.:49:11.

the other. He could take the white, swing it around the red and black.

:49:11.:49:15.

I think that is what he is looking at there. But he might catch the

:49:16.:49:25.

end red. Well I have not seen anyone knock as many plants in as

:49:26.:49:35.
:49:36.:49:47.

He has found the gap, but he hasn't missed the middle pocket. He did

:49:47.:49:51.

well there. But that middle bump and he just, signs that he is

:49:51.:49:57.

getting a bit anxious. He is looking for that frame and match-

:49:57.:50:07.
:50:07.:50:20.

It will be the pink, I don't think he can get o' the black. But using

:50:20.:50:25.

the extension, he couldn't force it too much. But he has got a nice

:50:25.:50:34.

easy pink. Probably try to get a bit higher up the table. To have

:50:34.:50:44.
:50:44.:50:50.

Hey has had to play for the red near the corner, but it is a thin

cut and the blue may just hamper The yellow's a better ball, being

:51:15.:51:25.
:51:25.:51:26.

left-handed. But the red is awkward. He may have to lean over those. If

:51:26.:51:36.
:51:36.:51:45.

he is not impeded by the reds, he He needs a bit of luck. He has

:51:45.:51:52.

played it well. He needs to miss those. If he slips past the bunch,

:51:52.:51:56.

he has got an easy pot. He is going to need the extension on his cue

:51:56.:52:02.

and rest again. That was a good shot. Once the cue ball jumped on

:52:02.:52:06.

the table, you could be forgiven for thinking maybe it would take

:52:06.:52:12.

the pace out of it. But he got so much top spin he is just about on

:52:12.:52:22.
:52:22.:52:41.

He has the red but the pink's still on. A delicate cannon there. From

:52:41.:52:45.

the pink it is difficult, those reds are sort of blocking each

:52:45.:52:55.
:52:55.:52:59.

If he plays the blue, with the brown not being on its spot, it is

:52:59.:53:09.
:53:09.:53:12.

an obstacle he would do well to Can he get low enough to be able to

:53:12.:53:15.

pot this? He has played this brilliant. Only perfect cueing

:53:15.:53:25.
:53:25.:53:47.

would have put the cue ball there. They're not a bad bunch to go into

:54:14.:54:18.

getting down quick. He is nicely on Less far from finished yet, is Mark

:54:32.:54:42.
:54:42.:54:46.

I was having a chat with his mum and, I said, don't worry about Mark,

:54:46.:54:53.

he will never give up and he won't. No one knows you better than your

:54:53.:54:58.

mum! Absolutely. But he went through the wilderness and he had a

:54:58.:55:08.
:55:08.:55:13.

It is great to see him back. Because he plays the game in a

:55:13.:55:23.
:55:23.:55:26.

And the way he has played, when Judd tried to flay safety and

:55:26.:55:32.

caught the bump in the middle. We saw Judd Trump jump in the air,

:55:32.:55:35.

because he is getting anxious, because he knows how well Mark

:55:35.:55:40.

Allen is playing and he maybe feels that every chance he gives him,

:55:40.:55:48.

Mark Allen could clear up and win the frame. Is sometimes pressure

:55:48.:55:53.

when you're in front. OK he still has a lead, and one frame away, but

:55:53.:56:03.
:56:03.:56:09.

he knows that Mark Allen is playing Y frame has been won with one

:56:19.:56:35.

That is the frame over, 62 points in front, 59 remaining. But not for

long. If he could bring those two reds into play, we could see

another century from Mark Allen When Judd Trump made the safety

him wrong. This has been tremendous, considering his hopes of winning

Well this is not finished yet. A break of 125 keeps him in this

year's UK Championship. But he still trails 9-6. He played a shot

:59:20.:59:29.

played the yellow and he has to come off two cushions. You have to

:59:29.:59:34.

play it. You're hitting the cue ball at 12 o'clock to create the

And we will show you what happens listen you play top spin. You see

:59:49.:59:53.

that, it is amazing, he is hitting at 12 o'clock, but what happens

:59:53.:59:59.

when he hits the ball it sort of, it stops and comes back and then

:59:59.:00:02.

the top spin kicks in and look at that ball just spin and that is

:00:02.:00:08.

what is happening with the cue ball when you play wit top spin. Superb

:00:08.:00:18.
:00:18.:00:20.

What is happening under match - it is suddenly becoming very tense.

:00:20.:00:25.

May I remind you that at this point next year, John Higgins was nine hi

:00:25.:00:30.

8 -- 9-5 down against Mark Williams, and he won. Anything is possible.

:00:31.:00:35.

The way that Mark Allen is approaching his task is commendable.

:00:35.:00:40.

He has nothing to lose, he is up against it. But the way he is

:00:40.:00:45.

playing, one visit, incredible standard at the moment. It does not

:00:45.:00:49.

get much better. You make one mistake and you sit down for a

:00:49.:00:54.

while. If he plays this well he is going to put pressure round Judd

:00:54.:00:59.

Trump because he's thinking, if I miss, he is going to clear up. Mark

:00:59.:01:03.

is on the brink of defeat so he cannot make many mistakes. The

:01:03.:01:08.

standard is very high. What it is like when you sit there seen the

:01:08.:01:15.

lead beginning to be eaten into? Why are you talking to me?! It is a

:01:15.:01:19.

horrible feeling. It puts more pressure on you in the next frame,

:01:19.:01:26.

on your next shot. Just made a nice break in the previous frame, you

:01:26.:01:30.

can start looking over your shoulder too much. That is Mark

:01:30.:01:34.

Allen's job, to see if he can put the heat on Judd Trump. It will be

:01:34.:01:44.
:01:44.:01:46.

tough, but he can do it. Yes, and when that winning line was visible,

:01:46.:01:56.
:01:56.:01:56.

Apology for the loss of subtitles for 44 seconds

:01:56.:02:45.

the man in front can just tighten That was a very clever shot match

:02:45.:02:49.

because he almost knocked it in, and he was on the black or pink,

:02:49.:02:54.

and he was not leaving anything up at this table except the red, that

:02:54.:03:01.

wobbled in the jaws. And whereas the red going? Where is the red

:03:01.:03:10.

going? Right over the pocket. And Judd Trump did not get close to

:03:10.:03:16.

that pot, for him. And that has covered, but there is one into the

:03:16.:03:26.
:03:26.:03:31.

I don't think the red next to the black is available. If it is, it

:03:31.:03:36.

would be ideal for Mark Allen to stop the pink is slightly separated

:03:36.:03:40.

from the reds but if he pots this blue and cannons into the pink and

:03:40.:03:47.

opens the reds up, we know he has got a red to go at. He has played

:03:47.:03:54.

for the long one. He has a slight angle on this. As you can see,

:03:54.:03:58.

there is a gap between the pink and the reds. He probably did not think

:03:58.:04:03.

he could open the reds up as easily as he would like, but he has to

:04:03.:04:08.

start thinking about opening up those reds, before he plays the red

:04:08.:04:16.

over the far corner pocket. He can leave that there for reserve, in

:04:16.:04:22.

case he ends up out of position. I don't think he has got an angle on

:04:22.:04:27.

the pink to bring them into play, but three or four reds in the open

:04:27.:04:37.
:04:37.:04:38.

would be handy, he doesn't need to He is going to have to take that

:04:39.:04:43.

:04:43.:04:48.

been able to play the shot where he could have brought more reds into

:04:48.:04:53.

play. Now that bunch is there, and the pink goes behind its spot, its

:04:53.:05:01.

own spot is occupied, as are all the others, so directly behind it,

and they have enjoyed every single shot of this final. The crowds all

:05:07.:05:17.

week have been superb. They would love to see this match continue. A

:05:19.:05:28.

perfect angle on the green, and he has got two more reds. As I

:05:28.:05:36.

mentioned, with the pink not been there, now, off the blue, and into

:05:36.:05:46.
:05:46.:05:50.

Let's see how this works out for Mark Allen. Always looking for the

:05:50.:05:54.

full ball contact because if you hit them half ball, you could go

:05:54.:06:04.
:06:04.:06:05.

in-off, to either cope no pocket. - - either corner pocket. Looking to

:06:06.:06:15.
:06:16.:06:17.

hit the top red, full in the face. He has got an easier red to go at,

:06:17.:06:22.

that is all you can hope for, and he went close to the in-off, but

:06:22.:06:32.
:06:32.:06:49.

I mentioned that a three centuries and four frames, and he has run at

:06:49.:06:54.

opposition, landed right on the blue, he cannot even get to the

:06:54.:07:04.

yellow. That was the worst possible outcome. Quite a margin for error,

:07:04.:07:09.

but that was the first shot that has gone astray, for quite sometime.

:07:09.:07:13.

He was playing to cannon the red to the right of the blue and leave the

:07:13.:07:21.

blue off the baulk colour, but look where it has finished. He cannot

:07:21.:07:25.

get through to the yellow, and there was a red over the corner

:07:25.:07:35.
:07:35.:07:40.

pocket. He has got to cover that. It was not touching the blue. Not

:07:40.:07:49.

only the red, but that red, to knock onto that red. He has made it

:07:49.:07:59.
:07:59.:08:03.

Might b able to take the red that is near the pink spot and send it

:08:03.:08:07.

to the red that is over the pocket. There is enough room for him to

:08:07.:08:16.

pass that red and play a safety shot at the same time. That may be

:08:16.:08:21.

a possibility. If not he can come down off the other red. Let's have

:08:21.:08:31.
:08:31.:08:33.

a look at his choice. He has mishit that completely. Total miss it --

:08:33.:08:40.

mishit. Mark Allen cannot believe what he has seen. He almost missed

:08:40.:08:47.

the red, he hit it that done Lee. And look at the way the reds are

:08:47.:08:57.
:08:57.:08:58.

situated. -- thinly. He hit this far too thin, cannon the other reds,

:08:58.:09:08.
:09:08.:09:11.

That is why we say it is such a cruel game. He has played a poor

:09:11.:09:17.

shot and a fluke has kept him at the table, and Mark Allen's chances

:09:17.:09:26.

of staying in this match are looking slim. He has still got to

:09:26.:09:29.

knock them in and there are few shots well the pressure was

:09:29.:09:39.

starting to tell. He showed with making a 76 break after Mark had

:09:39.:09:46.

cleared up with 139 and one-9, that he can cope with the pressure --

:09:46.:09:54.

129. In Shanghai, he almost beat John Higgins to lift the world

:09:54.:10:04.
:10:04.:10:16.

That is the beautiful United Kingdom championship trophy. My

:10:16.:10:22.

colleague, John Virgo, his Honour. It was a title I would have loved

:10:22.:10:30.

to have won, but I never did when the UK. Did that get a bad contact?

:10:30.:10:37.

I think he did. He is OK, though. am wondering about the availability

:10:37.:10:42.

of this red to the right of the blue. He's disappointed not to be

:10:42.:10:46.

straighter on this black. Is the red next to the blue available to

:10:46.:10:56.
:10:56.:11:20.

He's just about held for the red to Good recovery. Anxious nail-biting

:11:20.:11:30.
:11:30.:11:31.

This is a little straight, the red, that is near the cushion, and if he

:11:31.:11:40.

plays for the pink, he does not want to be straight on that. He has

:11:40.:11:50.
:11:50.:11:51.

missed it. That is just pure pressure. How many shots has he

:11:51.:11:59.

missed like that, the whole week? Just breaking then on it's likely,

:11:59.:12:08.

slightly hampered by the pink. -- striking down on it, slightly. As a

:12:09.:12:18.

neutral, I am pleased that it was not that fluke that lost Mark Allen

:12:18.:12:28.
:12:28.:12:46.

the championship, because that The red passes the blue and he has

:12:46.:12:52.

a nice angle to drop on the black. He just needs to roll that in and

:12:52.:12:56.

the white will automatically finish on to the black. He has hit this a

:12:56.:13:06.
:13:06.:13:06.

bit hard. It needs to pull up. It is not that. He has got the one

it. What sort of an angle has he got? It definitely goes, just

:13:59.:14:02.

looking to see if the red to the right of the black will pass the

:14:02.:14:08.

pink. He does not have the right angle on the black just to stun for

:14:08.:14:18.
:14:18.:14:38.

That red to the right side of the table, it is better to play from

:14:38.:14:42.

the left side. I don't know whether he can run through and leave that

:14:42.:14:46.

shot on, it is more difficult from his side of the table and tears

:14:50.:14:56.

the black. He needs a slight angle. I don't know if he has got enough

:14:56.:15:03.

to move the red. I don't think so. Just a little bit too straight. He

:15:03.:15:08.

can get close to that red. He will have to leave a long pot up into

:15:08.:15:13.

the corner, or a double, and he is looking at the possibility of

:15:13.:15:23.
:15:23.:15:25.

leading a double, nothing wrong with that choice. Nothing wrong

:15:25.:15:33.

with taking the double on. As we see so many times with these

:15:33.:15:40.

doubles it depends on the T Shipley, because if you hit the wrong sure

going to run behind the green? He has left it. This will cut back

good. It is pretty good. Yellow and The green, to go 25 in front the 22

fluke, that Mark Allen was going to be left sitting in his seat. --

:17:45.:17:55.
:17:55.:17:57.

Judd Trump. But you cannot afford to do that this evening. It is

:17:58.:18:03.

still an uphill task, but we can see that he is up for the fight. He

:18:03.:18:08.

is not even bother about the black. Won the four staff from both

:18:08.:18:13.

players. Judd Trump will be disappointed he missed his frame

:18:13.:18:17.

and match-winning opportunity but Mark Allen once again rose to the

:18:17.:18:23.

occasion. It is now 9-7. He has proved himself in the situation

:18:23.:18:27.

before. In his first round match at the Crucible, he had to beat

:18:27.:18:33.

Matthew Stevens to stay in the top 16, he was 9-6 down, and came back

:18:33.:18:38.

to win 10-9. You have got to give them credit for his composure under

:18:38.:18:43.

testing circumstances. It is amazing. When Judd Trump went 9-5

:18:43.:18:49.

up, if you don't win the next frame to win, it is amazing how many

:18:49.:18:53.

times that some doubt keeps in and he missed a very comfortable red on

:18:53.:18:58.

the cushion which was more or less game ball because the rest were

:18:58.:19:08.
:19:08.:19:11.

fairly open. As poor sure, put yourself in issues of Mark Allen. -

:19:11.:19:16.

- as pursuer, put yourself in the shoes. I think that Judd Trump was

:19:16.:19:20.

have looking at the pink and took his eye off the ball. But when you

:19:20.:19:25.

start looking in the rear view mirror, it is the most pressure he

:19:25.:19:30.

has ever played under. Judd Trump would like to have a couple of easy

:19:31.:19:36.

chances and for Mark Allen to fail, are amongst the balls. There we go.

:19:36.:19:42.

It could all be hanging on this one. Pretty good length of the break-off

:19:42.:19:46.

shot, all key, there is a rig to the right, but Judd Trump is a

:19:46.:19:54.

pretty cool customer -- out OK, and I'm sure Judd Trump will put this

:19:54.:20:04.
:20:04.:20:18.

He does not want the double-kiss, and he didn't get it. Sometimes

:20:18.:20:28.
:20:28.:20:33.

Already, that red going up past the blue has made things awkward. He

:20:33.:20:43.
:20:43.:20:44.

has tried the double. APPLAUSE well, what a double that was.

:20:44.:20:49.

It was a shot to nothing. He seemed to play it as a shot to nothing. I

:20:49.:20:55.

am sure he left that red at the back of the bunch. What a time to

:20:55.:21:05.
:21:05.:21:12.

young man. I would suggest that, of Mark Allen was to win the frame of

:24:29.:24:34.

this visit, which is a tall order, Judd Trump would really be feeling

:24:34.:24:39.

it. You just feel at the moment that Mark Allen has played solidly

:24:40.:24:49.
:24:50.:24:55.

all evening, ever since 0.8-3 behind. -- going 8-3 behind. He has

:24:55.:25:00.

brought the black into play and he is on a red. He wanted to hit the

:25:13.:25:18.

the moment that it is Mark Allen that is going to take the chances.

:25:18.:25:28.
:25:28.:25:46.

You can see in missing anything . He's a typical customer, Mark

:25:46.:25:50.

Allen. He knows that Judd Trump is feeling the pressure. He knows that

unlucky not to be on it. If he is not on it at would be very unlucky.

:26:22.:26:27.

Just a little bit of adrenalin. He got into it, too well. The brown is

:26:27.:26:33.

going to have to come to his rescue. It is a long way to travel with the

:26:33.:26:38.

cue ball to get on to an easy red. Right in the centre of the pocket

:26:38.:26:44.

again. I know that he has got a mountain to climb, but he is

:26:44.:26:54.
:26:54.:27:08.

looking the more solid player at There is the tournament balls

:27:08.:27:18.

him past the winning line. It is normally just a case of keeping

:28:06.:28:12.

yourself together, but he has already proved that to us. No

:28:12.:28:22.
:28:22.:28:22.

worries on that score. Potting that red has cleared the path for

:28:22.:28:32.
:28:32.:28:39.

It has come up a little bit short, so he is when to have to go up for

:28:39.:28:45.

the green, brown or pink. -- going to have to. He got a little bit of

:28:46.:28:50.

a heavy contact. There was at that of a reaction when the cue ball was

:28:50.:28:56.

in contact with the black. As we say, he has three balls to play for.

:28:56.:29:03.

Pink, brown or green. He has an angle, you, has Mark, and if he

:29:03.:29:07.

just stuns it, he leaves himself the choice. He can come across the

:29:07.:29:12.

table. He does not have to play that one was up either way, he is

:29:12.:29:20.

on the three colours. The green may be better, now. Not quite far

:29:20.:29:30.
:29:30.:29:53.

It is all about the pace. That is The black, one more red and another

remarkable and once again, the Balts are going right into the

For centuries in the space of six frames if he can knock the pink and

:31:49.:31:59.
:31:59.:32:06.

He's going to have to do something special now. Not quite. But what a

:32:06.:32:13.

performance. He keeps himself in the final of the UK Championship.

:32:13.:32:23.
:32:23.:32:27.

What a match the crowd at the Barbican Centre have had. They are

:32:27.:32:31.

being thoroughly entertained. Judd Trump was in there and it looked

:32:31.:32:41.
:32:41.:32:43.

like he would go on to the winning line. Just watch this. If he gets

:32:43.:32:50.

this right he is absolutely perfect. Any sort of full-ball contact and

:32:50.:33:00.
:33:00.:33:02.

he would have been OK, but he just The yes, this is a remarkable

:33:12.:33:15.

performance. Mark Allen has been treading a tightrope ever since he

:33:15.:33:23.

went 8-3 behind. But he is now looking the more solid when he gets

:34:00.:34:05.

The crowd have seen in potting so many of these, but look what he has

:34:05.:34:13.

done with the cue ball. Mark Allen tucked the table in appreciation.

:34:13.:34:22.

It is funny that Judd trompe won so many frames in the role and now

:34:22.:34:32.
:34:32.:34:41.

There is the total points. Mark Allen is actually in front. But he

:34:41.:34:51.
:34:51.:34:51.

now needs the last two frames to win his first major title. There is

He made it more difficult by trying to hedge his bets slightly. He

:36:17.:36:18.

we all saw what happened in the He decided not to put all his eggs

in one basket in that last shot. It was unlucky that the red ball

bowled. And even more unlucky for it to go up and over the top right-

hand corner pocket. But that is Under normal circumstances, you

:36:46.:36:54.

would have to say this is a very good chance to win the frame. He

to get the cue ball back under close control. That is all you want

He is just about OK. He has just run it a bit for to hold for the

He played it nicely. But there is Now, is that red cover by the pink?

No, it is not. And he has opened up all the reds. It must be very tense

:39:05.:39:15.
:39:15.:39:20.

Yes, I said that he would have learned an awful lot from his run

into the final of the World Championship back in April. I am

:39:27.:39:37.
:39:37.:39:41.

sure his family learned a lot about Mark Allen can only sit and watch.

:39:41.:39:49.

But what a performance. Will he get another chance? You would not think

so, the way the balls are situated. But we have seen what can happen.

To fantastic left-handed players have produced a fantastic final for

We are getting close to the conclusion. Just a few more pots

Fair play to Judd Trump, he has Just the red and the black and he

The crowd erupted in cheers and the The family are absolutely delighted.

:41:07.:41:13.

But take nothing away from Mark Allen, he has produced some

:41:23.:41:24.

remarkable snooker. But in the end, this young, dynamic potter has come

:41:24.:41:32.

through. It is hard to describe how he will be feeling inside. But well

:41:32.:41:39.

done to Mark Allen. He has helped it was the marvellous final. And

from Mark Allen, but it was just a mountain to four. Judd Trump is

absolutely delighted. He picks up the williamhill.com UK Championship

Ladies and gentlemen, what a marvellous final we have had

tonight. What a wonderful final. I am sure you will agree and I think

it is stained by we paid credit to both players. Mark, what a final

:43:35.:43:45.

you have made for us tonight. Very well done. Mark, for a man who was

not keen on the new format, you certainly proved you could adapt to

:44:01.:44:05.

it this week. Just supporting was absolutely fantastic. I did not

:44:05.:44:14.

think I had done a lot wrong here tonight. But it was a remarkable

:44:14.:44:18.

performance from you this evening. Three centuries in the space of

:44:18.:44:28.

four frames. I thought I had a chance in the last frame, but Judd

:44:28.:44:36.

showed what he was made of. It is as the first championship and has

:44:36.:44:43.

been the icing on the kick for a fantastic ear for him. Can you sum

:44:43.:44:47.

up what this experience has been like? What about the support from

this fantastic crowd in your work? Dash mac will end at the Barbican

:45:07.:45:08.

I am slightly disappointed. You always come to try and win an event,

:45:08.:45:18.
:45:18.:45:22.

but I have to take my hat off to Judd. Congratulations. Ladies and

was just hoping to come to all the BBC events and play well. But to

win it was fantastic. It is just as well it finished there, because if

:46:17.:46:19.

we had carried on playing, I think he would have won by 100-18. To be

:46:19.:46:25.

honest in their run, how did it feel when Mark was reeling off all

these frames? It is the best anyone has played against me in E session.

:46:35.:46:42.

I was just pleased to get over the finishing line. It ends up a

:46:42.:46:50.

magnificent here for me. Can you tell everybody what has actually

:46:50.:47:00.

sparked you this year? What has been the difference? It can be hard

:47:00.:47:05.

to get through because the quality of player is so good, but with the

extra events on the calendar, I think I have just gained a lot more

match experience. Now, this is the first big title you have one and I

am sure is the first of many. Ladies and gentlemen, you champion,

:49:43.:49:50.

it was not just about one player. Mark Allen played superbly tonight

:49:50.:49:54.

and that break that Judd Trump made in the last frame under pressure

:49:54.:50:04.
:50:04.:50:07.

was absolutely fantastic. Snooker has changed. You do not see many

frames that actually go down to the colours. There is just a Barack age

of breaks. Fantastic humility from Mark Allen in his speech. But also

lovely to see a young man like this, especially as this has been a long
