know there's going to be a result. I have enjoyed the best of 11

format. It has been a success, the fact that so many people turned out

to watch us, and part of that is because they are guaranteed to see

a result,, and watch the snooker and somebody is going to win, and

somebody is going to lose. listen to broadcast customers and

sponsors. There are very tough times out their economic lives for

everybody in Europe. And yet, we have bucked the trend. In two years,

we have made some mistakes, yes, of Behind the reason for the changes,

motivation. The same motivation that has shaped Nations and of an

empire stash -- money. -- driven empires - money. MUSIC: Pink Floyd

- Money. This year there will probably hit avoid $2.5 million

coming in for international broadcasting of snooker. We have

gone from it tournaments-20 events around the world. We have got a

recession market and the crowd money has gone from 3.5 million, to

7 million, and these are staggering figures for a game that was more of

global. The explosion of popularity in China no longer makes their

planes but is still remarkable. Next season there will be more

ranking tournaments on snooker's new frontier and will will the

traditionalists might feel faint, the future of the game seems to be

heading east. Those tournaments that we play in Asia in five years,

there will be a lot of players from Asia, doing very well, hopefully,

there will be three or four in the top 16 from Asia. The World

Championships make the in China, in five years. The game is going to

grow, worldwide. A demand in Asia is simply staggering. Next year we

will end up with five or six ranking events in Asia, alone, and

it could grow from there. China is now only half the story. This

season has seen tournaments as far afield as Brazil and Australia, and

in Europe, the snooker caravan has pulled up in Poland, Belgium and

Germany. We have got talks going on in Turkey, Russia, Canada,

Singapore, so we're looking at a More tournaments and more money -

who could be unhappy? The answer is, quite a few people, because in this

seemingly happy marriage between money and tournaments, there is

after person, in the form of ranking points. -- a third person.

In the good old days if you got your place in the top 16 you were

there for the whole season and it was a passport to guaranteed prize

money and a place in every tournament. But, these days, the

only passport you get is the one that takes you on planes, trains

and automobiles, to long-haul destinations and shorter trips in

the UK and Europe, on the players to a championship, or P t sees as

they are universally known. -- PTCs. This year in and were we had 14 of

the top 16 and a host of battle- hardened professionals aiming to

get enough points to get their place in the top echelon. We have

got to change more of the structures were we give the top

players too much protection. See them through to the semi- final

stages, guaranteed so much money. We have got to take that away and

create the hunger, spread the game globally and increase the prize

money. My aim is to get a prize money up to 10 million town's

minimum, and to have a snooker tournament somewhere in the world,

every week. -- �10 million. Not all players are so enthusiastic about

the scheduling and that prize money on PTCs. I enjoy the events, and

like playing in them, I think they are great, but sometimes you go to

them and do not get paid anything to stop it is not fun or when you

get to the final and a coming away, making a couple of grand. For the

Law players if the might of doing well, it shows in the way that the

ranking system is being done whereas before you could have a

good season and it would not show that much. The scheduling could be

a bit better. Not every week, because quite often I don't get to

see much of my family and friends. But this is my job. This week, in

York, the morals of discontent turned into a one-man course of

rebellion as Mark Allen fired a broadside at the barrier and

Snooker's new world order. I spoke my mind and that is what players

need to do more, because people have said what I said, but a

amongst themselves but are not man enough to see it at the public and

to John Moss. I have been criticised for swearing on TV at

But I stand by everything I said. Behind their headlines of

he does not feel strongly enough about it to take the trouble to put

the point to his own association. So, what to make of it all? Your

perspective probably depends on a number of factors, your age, your

ranking position and your family commitments, amongst others. One

thing is certain. The changes over the past two seizes amount to

nothing less than a revolution in the structure of the game and if

you fail to adapt to the new environment, your days are numbered.

Very few people can fundamentally criticise the changes that have

taken place, prize money is going through the roof, the number of

championships has almost trebled and there is a great feeder system

for young players to come through. But, as for the work load, there

has been a lot of criticism about that. How many more tweaks are

necessary to perfect this revolutionised system? I don't know,

I haven't got a clue, but the history of the one is one where

players were more or less paid to play, and if you are up there,

whether you are having to speculate too much to accumulate, perhaps in

the future you have to put your hand in your pocket a bit more if

you want to be a snooker player, and from that perspective, times

are changing. Is it a young hungry man's game these days, then?

Absolutely, for someone like Judd Trump, a young, single guy with no

commitments, place the could have the, hardly having to practise any

more, it is fantastic, but for myself that is completely different.

But I do think there are too many ranking points associated with the

small tournaments of the PTCs. But it is a great time to be coming

into snooker. He under pinning some of the concerns shared by Mark

Allen last week was this idea of tinkering with other events, most

notably the World Championships at the Crucible. Judd Trump said it

would be a catastrophe if they tinkered with what he called "the

supreme test of snooker". Do you think it means change? Looking at

the last few tournaments at Sheffield, there is a case for may

be changing the first and second rounds, to best-of- 10 frames in

the first two rounds. The second round to be changed. But that is

only a personal viewpoint. Other players might want to go straight

to 25 frames. That is the only thing you tinker with but

everything else, leave it well alone. Neil Robertson suggested the

other day that the changes in the championship back from the dead,

There is a view that if you look at the semi-finals of the World
