Ulster v Scarlets Ulster Rugby Live

is now all or nothing for Ulster. They arrive for a showdown against

the Scarlets, who have brought their lives to Belfast. Ulster have

already beaten the Welsh side twice this season, including a demolition

in January. Ulster are striding for success, but

not looking too far ahead. It is massive for us. It is about time we

brought some silverware back and gave something to our fans. It is

huge. There is no point thinking about the trophy. It is all about

Friday night. Kick-off is in just under 15

minutes. Yet again, it is another sellout at Ravenhill. 450 Scarlets

fans have travelled to Belfast. All of the others will be standing up

for the Ulsterman tonight. Many fans are taking their seats in the iconic

grandstand for the last time before it is knocked down next week to make

way for the next phase of the multi-million pound redevelopment.

Hello and even into a very sunny Ravenhill. I tell you what, it is

not often like this on a Friday evening here. It is a super night.

The sun is shining and there is a little bit of wind as well. This, of

course, is what it is all about. Ulster are just two victories from

lifting the trophy. We're hoping for one last memorable performance in

front of that grandstand. At half-time, we will bring you lots of

Ravenhill memories from some of our rugby greats, including Jack Kyle.

87 years old, and just two years younger than that stand. My guests

are much more useful. Good to have you with us. Lots of memories, I am

sure, of your own. What is your favourite? It is hard to choose

between all of them. It will be a sad day on Monday when it comes

down. But we have to move on and I think this place will be eight acre

fortress, whatever comes up. -- a bigger fortress. No better way to

say goodbye than with a victory tonight, Tony. It is sunny and dry,

with a full house. Everybody is hoping for a great performance.

Ulster team this evening is pretty much full strength, not far away.

is probably in the front five where the game will be won or lost. That

is where they need to seek dominance. If they can do that, they

will get into the game nice and early. It is a big night for Dan

Tuohy. They will be looking to sign off with a big one this evening.

John Afoa disabling for Ulster, which is a big loss. -- this evening

for Ulster. Andrew Trimble has been the most consistent player all

year. It is that consistency that sets him apart from a lot of the

other players this year. He has got real confidence at the moment and he

will look to push itself in the game. He has been outstanding all

year, as has this man. If Nick Williams plays well, I'll stop play

well. He is one of the forwards who can give us an advantage. -- if Nick

Williams plays well, Ulster play well.

Of course, the inspirational captain, too. His thoughts ahead of

the game. You can talk as much as you like about improving and getting

better as a squad and having quality players and winning so many on the

bounce, you know, but at the end of the day, you are judged on trophies,

and it is a simple as that. That is the type of pressure we put

ourselves under. Making a semi-final is not good enough. Making a final

is not good enough. We want to win something. That is the drive behind

the squad right now. He is so important to Ulster's set piece.

front. It creates a lot of confidence in the players. If things

aren't going well, he can slow it down. Captaining Ulster means a lot

it? It is. You can feel the heat on our backs. It is not something we

are used to at Ravenhill. You can sense the atmosphere is building. It

is that history, the tradition, the stand coming down. I expect a big

performance. It is a nice welcome for a Scarlets side that was

hammered at home last week. They were booed off the pitch at the end

of the game. I don't think I would read too much into that. To finish

in the top four, you have got to have something about you. They will

have something to prove. They have a very potent back row. The Ulster

front five really have to set a marker down. If we let them forage

and win a ball, they have got a dynamic backlight to unleash.

Priestland has been replaced tonight. That is Abe bonus for

Ulster. -- a bonus. It would have been his first game back after a

serious Achilles injury. You can be off match fitness. I would not read

a locked into that. -- a lot. style -- Scarlets come with their

two Lions tonight. They have to key men tonight stop

monster. He is only 20 years old as well. The key for Ulster tonight is

to manage the breakdown so he does not get the ball in his hand. He

will look to get off his wing as much as possible. You have got to

off, saying he has lost his form. is a clever footballer. He reads the

game well. He uses the blindside wing well. Going back to George

North, Andrew Trimble is up against him. That is going to be a real

clash of the titans. Let's get the view of the Ulster coach. It is the

end of the season for the losing team. They are going to throw

everything at us. We will be prepared for that. They have got

quality players, and if we give them room and space and position, we are

going to be in trouble. We are going to make sure we don't give them

those opportunities. How prepared are Ulster? We are pretty well

prepared. We have had a good couple of weeks together. It is about

building momentum with the same team. That is what you want going

into these important games. What would it mean to Ulster to get into

the final? Everything. We have had a good year but we want to achieve the

thing we have set out to do. It is the last night in the old stand. How

special would it be to win? This is a last time the team is going to be

here. It is a special moment. The boys said they wanted a home

semi-final, because we love playing here. There is a lot of the relevant

happening here. Good, positive things are happening. We want to

finish it off tonight. Down under, they call it a shared.

People are sitting there for the very last time. The mascot is

getting them fired up. Everybody was to see an Ulster win. Will this have

to be their most visible in the performance -- disciplined

performance this season? It will. The referee does like to blow his

whistle. Anybody that infringes, he will be onto them. It is important

that they are very disciplined, particularly in the breakdown area.

That is where they have to dominate tonight. As the fans enjoy a song,

that song has been put on a CD and recorded, and the words are pretty

easy to remember! Ulster will know they can't afford to play the way

they did in the first half of last week. They have not started well

here this season. There is a lot of nostalgia here tonight. That will be

pointed out. It will be known to the guys before they come out. We can

expect an energetic start. They don't want to wait for the Scarlets

to come at them. Last week in some ways, it was the worst thing for

Ulster in that Scarlets were beating -- beaten. They will be reeling from

that. They will be worried about that. We know that the Scarlets

defeated Leinster heavily at the start of the season. This team is a

confident one now. That has got to be key. They have only lost one game

at home all year. They are riding a wave. They have got a big, big,

vocal support here as well. They don't want to let anybody down,

least of all themselves. That was the target that was set at the start

of the season, to get to the final. If they don't get there, it will be

seen as a failure in some ways. We have got the trophy here in the

studio. They can't afford to look to far ahead, or they will be caught.

Their minds will have gone astray a bit, to the final, but now they are

here and they are about to start the game, they are so focused. The main

thing for Ulster is that they will know, deep down, that if they

perform, everyone, then it will be too much for the Scarlets.

We are hoping that they will blow them away.

No doubt Ulster will be feeding of this fine atmosphere. It is time to

problem whatsoever. Having made all their early running, Ulster have

final. It is the club's season over for whoever loses. You cannot let

the nerves of the occasion get to you. You have to trust what you

have been doing all season and nonsense. That double tackle again

was very quick to award a penalty. With two teams like this, you want

open rugby and a fair contest. Alain Rolland does laid down the

looks like the result of a punch. Well, such a lot is at stake. Things

are likely to boil over. But the referee is just the man to keep a

lid on it. Liam Williams and Andrew Trimble are the men going to be

spoken to. Is he going for the pocket? REFEREE: The two of you are

going in the bin for fighting. Absolutely no need for it. You

started, everybody joined in. You are both responsible. The

retaliation was no worse. You are both off. In the bin. Ten minutes.

Off you go. There they go, for ten minutes. The

initial penalty was going to Ulster, but I have a feeling it may have

been reversed. So, two men in the bin. Scarlets have lost Scott

Williams, who has never quite recovered, and they are going to

have to bring on a replacement. This is where it all kicked off. Liam

Williams threw himself in there. I am not sure that was a punch by

Andrew Trimble. He took him by the collar. That certainly was a punch.

No Bias intended, but I think Andrew Trimble came off the worse

the Scarlets. They will feel it in the potency of the back vapour spec

tide turning now. Ulster just beginning to exert some authority.

Controlling where it is being played. Well, he has been one of

eligible for Ireland and that will make life interesting. That locks

in the potential for Irish qualification in the 2015 World Cup.

He is obviously important for Ulster and will be for Ireland as

users of himself. -- nuisance. That was a good covering tackle by Tom

Court. George North at his most dangerous. He has that extra gear.

Taken on by Samson Lee. Stopped in his tracks again by Tom Court. Good

sidestep from Liam Williams. No advantage to Ulster. That scullers

cannot be allowed any room whatsoever. -- the Scarlets. They

needed to get something out of that. If Ulster scored next, the game

could very quickly get away. But the other team that are capable of

scoring from anywhere. No hiding place. There is a delight for

a replacement. It is Tom Court. If he is Cup, he will have to go off

and get something done with that. - - Cut. They will have to bring on

prepared for the second half. Callum Black has been in every

single match this season. He comes on for Tom Court. Just a couple of

bulk and careers the whole situation. It is a very interesting

proposition. -- creates. Darren are in all sorts of trouble. They

should end the half with three more points. What a very good scrum.

Another bit of controversy there. Robbie Diack are doing some great

going into half time. Leaves Ulster Ulster's lead to 15 points. And he

has done exactly that. What a good finish. It has been a pretty decent

first half by Ulster, who are 40 minutes of -- away from the Pro12

final. Overall, it has not been a bad display by the men in white.

exciting. The tension has spilled over at times. But it is AdVantage

Ulster at the moment, thanks to those two tries. And then the try

scoring machine, Diack, just before scoring machine, Diack, just before

halftime. Ulster are very much in halftime. Ulster are very much in

control. We have been enjoying what has been a great first half. Ulster

are certainly dominant. I think the first thing to say is

you can see this is a knockout game. The intensity of the

physicality, is there. It is as good as I can recall. The Ulster pack

needed to be physical. I think they have been great. The rest of them as

well, they have been performing fantastically. The defence has been

key, hasn't it? We may not have seen many big hits this season, but they

have led from the front. Ruan Pienaar has pulled the strings. They

have been more savvy in the game, in terms of execution. And a great

finish here. It will be nice to get one over on his Lions counterparts.

Again, good work from the forwards. Very patient in the 22. That is

great to see. A great pass, great finish. He not only has great pace

but great footwork. Rory Best is leading from the front. Ulster

picked up a penalty. They are elected to the corner. A couple of

subsequent penalties. They have had the patience to stay there, work it

out. One criticism of Ulster has been the way they switch off after

they score. Tonight, completely opposite. They just looked very

focused. You can see the body language between the players, that

they are massively up for this game. Something I really like is this.

Again, great play. Again, the patients. They are bringing it to

the back, focusing on the gap. Look at the reaction here from 20 he and

illegal in the first half. They have been on the end of the whistle.

Technically, it is hard, what they are doing. A great shot of an arm

around Diack. The first few lineouts were straight on Muller. You can see

they get the ball away. We touched earlier on about the

defensive effort. That might be slightly on the illegal side from

Nick Williams. The work at the breakdown has been crucial. We saw

at the beginning a pilot that -- penalty go either way. Ulster have

reacted much better. They have been very clinical. The Scarlets had not

quite got themselves into the game. That is why we have not seen some of

them all explosive backs. When we first saw him, we said, kick

the ball down. You can see the ball away from Paddy Jackson. He can see

the whole, but goes through it. He has the footballing ability to drop

it onto his rolling foot. You can see, with Tommy chasing this, there

is just a bit more urgency from the Ulster players, and that is what is

seeing them through so far. On the downside, a double yellow card in

the first half. Both of them fair enough, do you think? When you see

the replay, yes, frankly. Williams has come in initially and taken

Andrew Trimble out of the play. He has reacted with a punch. You can't

do that. It is a yellow card. He has counter reacted, obviously. The

interesting thing was if they had not had a fight, it was a try stop

it shows what is at stake. It shows how much this means to these teams.

Emotions are going to spill over. A yellow card was the right choice.

We are sitting up here in our nice studio in the newsstand. Of course,

as you can see, there are two more being built at either end of the

ground. After tonight 's game, the original stand will be knocked down

and work will begin on the final phase of this �14 million

irrelevant. We brought some of the men responsible for the magic in

front of the stand to take a seat in The big memory of this ground is our

grand slam of 1948. Ireland hand -- had not even won the triple Crown

since 1899. It was wonderful to look around and remember where we score

the try in that corner. Jack Bailey scored the try at the corner here.

We were leading, and he said, if Wales don't score again, I will be

canonised! It is nearly 60 years ago, 1957, that I first came here as

a schoolboy and changed in the dressing room. I find it amazing. It

was 20 years later, 1977, that I played my last game. I went into the

dressing room and got changed with the same bag.

Looking here at Ravenhill, it brings back a lot of memories. Luckily

enough, we were the ones who came through that day will stop all of

the players and fans and support were cheering us on as we walked up

the steps to lift the cup for the last time. It was magical.

Sometimes, when you sit down in your quiet moments and you think back

over those years, you wonder not only how to survive, but you think

about the money mornings, the eighth and the pains, and going to work. --

Monday mornings, the aches and the coming to the stand was a long time

ago. It feels like yesterday. I watched the all Blacks and finally

understood the expectation that comes from the crowd when they watch

Ulster play. We won the championship ten times. The pinnacle was beating

Australia here. In those days, people were crawling on the pitch.

Health and safety did not really work in those days. Most of my

memories are of what was on the pitch. Looking around here now and

seeing the building work, we are all excited. Hopefully it will create

many more of the memories up in the stands. It will allow us to achieve

success beyond what has already been Some fantastic memories there, but

time is up for the old grandstand. When will the revamped be finished?

The man who can answer the question is with the Ulster chief executive.

I imagine you getting the right send-off tonight? I hope so. It has

been a magnificent crowd and atmosphere. We have sold out nearly

every game this year. To provide for our supporters, we will get this

place up to the 18,000 mark. The fans can expect to see for newsstand

in total. -- for new stands. object is getting their off the

pitch. Always wanted to get the professional game rights, but this

is the flagship. The facilities being right, we were moved in

balance on all fronts. -- we will move.

going to come on. We are still waiting to see the outcome of Jim

Yuille's deliberations. It is very difficult to see. I can see a
