Day 5 Wimbledon

One. We are taking you straight to Centre Court as Andy Murray begins

the defence of his Wimbledon title. He is up against the Spaniard,

Roberto Bautista Agut. Murray knows and loves Centre Court well. It is

Murray who is dictating play early on. He has just taken the first

set. Let's join our commentators Tim Henman, John McEnroe and Andrew

Castle. He is beginning to have that aura of

invincibility on this court. Unless you are talking about Djokovic,

Nadal and Federer. This is the story so far.

I think one of the things that marks Murray out is posture and core

strength. He works with a ballerina. Girl

coaches, ballerinas, what are we saying here? ! Federer must have

worked with a ballerina, he moves that way. The only Spanish player

that Murray loses two is Nadal. It feels like the world is against

him right now. The wind is out of his sails already.

He has got to take some chances, move forward. And when you see him

hit a volley like this, good technique out in front, really punch

the ball, you ask why does he not do it in a bit more often?

It is nice to see a seeded singles player playing in the doubles as

well. In his first-round match, he and his partner won their match.

Friday night, the end of the first week of the Championships, it is

good here? We cannot have it any better than this. We thought we

would be under the roof today. No need for that.

I did not know there was a football tournament still going on. One of

the countries we represent are still in. Back to Murray!

Bautista Agut reckons he could beat Murray at football but tricky will

be -- tennis will be tricky! Spain did not look good at the World Cup.

If you are playing a guy like Murray and he is serving big, he does not

have a lot of capability to win points off the first serve. The

percentage will drop. You hesitate to draw attention to it

but the delayed grant, it is confusing.

Annoying would be accurate as well. Especially if you lose the point.

At least he was getting up the court.

He waits for the ball. You have to take a couple of steps to get in a

better position. That is a low percentage shot from

Bautista Agut there. Just so comfortable on this court.

And comfortable with his game. He is the defending champion. And he won

Olympic gold in this great city of London in 2012. Looking back at the

London eye on this beautiful evening. The greatest city in the

world, John McEnroe. It is a great city but I have to respectively

disagree that it is the best in the world. That would be New York. It

has improved since you first came here as they troublesome teenager.

It seemed like a pretty good city then as well. We will stick your

American Embassy near Battersea Power Station. I try to work out and

get in a pool. Are you not playing the seniors this year? I will leave

this to Tim. Are you going to play? No.

It never looks like 15,000 people in here. That is the beauty of it.

Sometimes you play in arenas with ten or 12000 and they look enormous.

It has been pretty much faultless so far for Murray.

That is just too good. Deliberately short, deliberately hitting the

inside of the ball to have its spin away. That last shot from Murray was

too good but Bautista Agut had a lot of great shots in that rally and had

no reward for them. There is a thought from Bautista

Agut that Murray might have carried this ball. The backspin was

remarkable. That was a hamstring tester. If you

are over 30! Some good serving. The huge

difference in their ability to win points off the serve.

Plenty of people in the grounds enjoying it on Henman Hill.

I can see reasons the Harris hawk has not been doing his work! He

should have seen this lot off -- Rufus.

That was good speed from Bautista Agut.

We have seen him move well side to side.

SUE BARKER: Murray still leads by a break of serve. If you are tuning in

The direction of serve is vital. Andy Murray has not lost. That is a

brutal statistic. Murray is comforted to know that if

he hits the spot, that he will get a lot of easy points. What would you

do, Tim, if you wear the Spaniard here? I think it was something we

saw last night with Roger Federer against Gilles Muller. Federer

served well but Muller never changed his court position. Federer hit the

spots time and time again. I think for Bautista Agut, if he is

struggling with Murray's serve, he has got to give him a different

look. He could stand closer to the baseline, a long way back or in the

tramline to break up the rhythm of it.

Does taking the hat off count as a different look?

This is a long way back to have to hit a passing shot.

Last year Andy Murray had back surgery and has not won tournament

since Wimbledon last year. Does that have any bearing on whether he will

be able to defend here? The good news is that he is healthy.

He played a fine match against Nadal on the clay in Rome.

It is the predicament for a lot of players these days, there is not a

plan B. Plan a is not working for Bautista Agut.

He picks up another game. Andy Murray is hitting the ball cleanly

here on Centre Court. Another question that you face after you

have surgery, and I think you both have had surgery? Thankfully not.

You question yourself, that 1%. You see the world a little differently

afterwards. It is a bit of an ordeal and to trust yourself 100% in the

area that has been operated on is a question. There is the physical

aspects of rehab and getting back to the levels you were at lifting

weights and running on the track. That is one challenge. Also the

bigger challenge is trusting it mentally. Sometimes, pain can almost

be ingrained on your mind. You are expecting it to hurt. I think for

some time in the early part of this year, Murray had those issues. And

then he played the match against Nadal and beat Carl Schreiber, the

DAX go and Monfils. There was an issue and he felt there was no

choice. It was a matter of time, convinced of that. But looking good

now. He has got two breaks but he does

not want to get careless here. It is nice when you put yourself in

a position where you can afford to slip up for a few minutes.

see a couple of Murray's second serves really setting up the last

game before new balls are brought in. That should help them, if he is

not to break. That was a screamer of a forehand.

The challenge is coming very close. He could not have had it any better

than that. The problem for Bautista Agut, he

runs around his backhand and then goes from his forehand into

Murray's forehand and leaves such a big hole.

He has been saving that for the last 61 minutes.

Impressive to see Bautista Agut save three set points there.

So good. Andy Murray appears to be well on his way. UMPIRE: Murray

leads by two sets to love. And the bad news from the Spaniard is that

he has never come back from two sets down before. He is going to have to

go where he has never been. And he has not played that many grand slam

events. He has only had a chance to participate in matches where you

play best of five over the last few. He made his Davis Cup debut this

year as well. So a new boy for certain. What is discouraging is how

every single time he steps up to serve, Murray feels like he has a

good shot of breaking him. That gets in your head very quickly. Five

times already in this match out of nine chances, Murray has broken. I'd

get the feeling that these people on Henman Hill, this is the first place

they are going this Friday. They are not heading home after this. It

could have been a difficult one, weather-wise, on the Hill today.

Every grand slam champion ship, we look for somebody to break the

stranglehold. Every tournament, it seems that the big four names are

present and dominating. They are very selfish guys. They know how to

keep winning them. And that is exactly what they have been doing

for years. Trying to come up with a plan B, do

something different. Maybe bring Murray in. It would not appear that

that would be a successful formula but credit to him for trying.

The forehand has not been there for him either. Bautista Agut has not

hit many winners at all. Murray is so confident that he is

going after his strengths. Bautista Agut, zeroing in on breaking down

his forehand. David Goffin, in the first round, that was his 450th win.

He got rid of the Slovenian in 84 minutes. Talk about saving your

energy. That's true. And with the schedule playing Monday, Wednesday,

Friday, two days off at the weekend...

Did he say adios? I think he said 10p knack -- "A dios.", which means

all my God. I'd think he what hit him. The man

that Murray is dismantling, he is 23rd in the world. If you were the

23rd best football in the world, everybody would be making a big fuss

about you. He has just won his first run and, it is a career-high

ranking. -- first tournament. Just superb. Amelie Mauresmo,

coaching Andy Murray, herself a champion at this level, Wimbledon

2006. She beat Justin Hannon in both those finals. -- Justin Hannon.

Back to the penalty shots. Right up the middle. I'm OK with that.

This guy looks exhausted and he has been via an hour and 12 minutes. He

comes tumbling down when he plays someone this good.

village. It is great for celebrity spotting. Many of them will take a

house for Queens club. For a fortnight of London. Amelie

Mauresmo, she skips around, but she did when she was winning Wimbledon.

Not affected by the tour. The number one Court roof will be in place by

2019. Pretty easy to coach Murray on the first week of Wimbledon.

He is just looking for a little bit more respect. He does not want to

get taken in this final set. Struggling to win points right now.

He just does not win any free points of this server. -- off this server.

No free points on serve and he does not have any weapons to really hurt

Murray from the baseline. Murray is not missing a ball.

The court that Murray is heading into seems to be longer and wider

and with a lower net than the one that Bautista Agut is heading into.

Few and far between for Bautista Agut. Still down to mag break

points. And even after the run of points, Murray still hates losing

any points. Coming into this match, most were

saying that it was a step up in class, in terms of the rankings it

was a step up to play against the Spaniard. But it is situation

normal. Looking to dispatch a third straight opponent.

The first double fault of this match.

Again, you build up a big lead for yourself, and you afford the luxury

of losing concentration. You do not want to do it, of course. Not a good

game for Murray. A couple of doubles. And inevitable, but delayed

a bit. It was not called out. He stopped

playing. Plenty of time to swing. You better hope it's out. That is

someone pulling your pants down there to let that happen. It was

out. Way out. Happy for this young man, who has

toiled through challengers and satellites for years trying to get

into the big leagues. Testament to all you guys out there are

struggling to make it. And in there, because good things will happen.

That would have been rather embarrassing for him, clearly, as he

feels right now because he has been outclassed, obviously. And he is

starting to feel embarrassed. Not wanting to be out there. A lot of

players say that but he was in the... He has practised a lot with

Andy Murray. Very hard to know... If you do not have a second game to go

back on. It is a reflection of how things have changed so much over the

last few years. Bullying is a dying art.

I think he has showed an ability to volley. It is just an unwillingness

to go to a plan B. He has hit a couple of good volleys today. He has

shown that some nice feel up there. Good touch.

Dear we say serve and volley? Try that? Insane(!) I will believe it

and see it -- when I'd see it. It looks like it caught on the line.

Bautista Agut has decided not to challenge. He knew it was in. Trying

to stall for a little time to regroup, to try to get another game.

Good for him. Embarrassment avoided in this set.

Success at challenges. I wonder how many times you would have been right

if the Hawk-eye system had been in? I am predicting 88%. 28%, the

average success rate last year for players.

Out of the 72% that were wrong, two thirds of those will have done it

for a different reason, to give themselves time to regroup. Only

maybe a third of the time did they actually believe there was a

mistake. It is like bathroom breaks. How many

people go off at the end of the set to change the momentum.

Was that called in? UMPIRE: Murray is challenging the call. The ball is

called out. There is so much spring in his legs right now. So many

choices of short but that was the worst shot to choose. That is when

you were to set up, 4-2. So instead of being 40 love up, he

has given Batista a good chance. Possibly, he could get back into

this. Making life more difficult for himself. He needs to find one of

those big serves. He had a good look at the break

point there. A very makeable shot. A serve and volley for only the

seventh time this week. They keep stats on everything. How the game

has changed. Mum will be back in a minute because Jamie Murray is

playing in the doubles. I remember view playing a young Andy Murray. Do

you remember when you ambushed him, when you were put on court

unfairly? He was not expecting anything like that? Do you remember

that? At Wembley Arena. He was 11. Probably. Around there. 2004, I

believe. Six to one. The only time I've ever played with them. -- with

him. There is your Strictly Come Dancing champion for 2014. I am not

that deluded. Could I'd get a game? It was not that long ago that Paul

Davies had a little tape of that show.

The other thing that is good, Bautista Agut is at least happy to

be out there. That is good to see. Competing hard, to his credit. To

the last shot. He deserves to get a hold here and

make Murray serve this out. think it was in though. He needs a

rest. These are body blows. Throwing the weight of his ground strokes

That He is playing really well. He could possibly win another game. He

did not feel too good about that. That was a heavy sit down for

perhaps a foot or so. His feed went from under him. -- feet. He is

definitely hurting. Match point again.

You never know, if Roberto Bautista-Agut can get through this

game and make a start on the next one, he could extend the match.

You wonder why he does not do that every time.

He is down again. This time, Andy Murray stays in. They are great

friends, going back a long way, but no mercy shown by Andy Murray.

Wonderful performance. It really was. Well, so much for a harder

challenge. Mary goes into the second week with fully charged batteries

and full of confidence -- Andy Murray. It was a harder challenge,

but he's stepped up his game even further. Let us credit this guy who

has come a long way in the last couple of years, finally won

tournament, but hopefully he will learn from something like this.

Obviously, there are things he needs to improve. Work on different

things, different plans, because he has a lot of ability. Perhaps more

than he is aware of. What shape do you think Andy Murray is in now? I

think his performance this week has been great. He is hitting the ball

cleanly from the baseline. I like the way he is attacking off the

backhand side. He is physically in great shape, moving well, he has a

couple of days off, then ready to start all over again, it on the

second Monday. He is always the centre of attention. For the first

time in 77 years, a we have got a Wimbledon champion, but he handles

it well. He enjoys it. This is the only surface where he moves better

than anyone. On hard courts he was great, but here, he gets it. He is

faster than Roger Federer. He moves faster and he does not slip very

often. That is absolutely true. Roger... Obviously he is magnificent

and not getting any younger. It is harder to do it now as quickly as

Andy Murray. It is the next half where he is in with Novak Djokovic.

This was short work here. The net is being taken down. That is it. It was

not a one-man show, that would be unfair to Roberto Bautista-Agut. He

put up a decent fight, but ultimately Andy Murray was too good

and he is talking to our correspondent. It did not look

and he is talking to our made you work hard at the end,

however. He has won a lot of matches lately. He won on the

Holland and made a lot of improvements. He is ranked 18th in

the world now. He fights extremely hard. I just managed to hang in and

it was good to get it done in straight sets. Is that the best you

think you have performed so far in this tournament? He is the best

opponent I have played. He is seeded and has come in with confidence

after winning a tournament last week. He is a step up, I felt I

responded well. There are things I could do better, but it has been a

good first week. You won all your matches in straight sets, are you

feeling battle hardened? I had enough long matches in the French

Open, so I wanted to get physically ready. You will get tested at some

point jarring these events and sometimes it happens in the first

round and sometimes later on, you have to be mentally ready and

prepared and I try to do that. Next up, Kevin Anderson, he says it will

be difficult for him to control his nerves, I do not suppose you will

mind that, what do you think of him? He is a tough opponent. He is like

Roberto Bautista-Agut, he is playing the best tennis of his career so

far. He has made some improvements. He is a big guy with the big game. I

need to be sharp and return well if I want to win. I'm not sure how much

you get a chance to look around out there, but you can see on the faces

of people, every time you play, it is turning into a British carnival,

do you feel that out there? Once I get out on the court, I tried to

avoid it when I am not a way from the court, but I see it when I am on

the court. When I get on the court, it is great, the atmosphere has been

fantastic so far. It gives me a big lift and I will need it as the

tournament goes on and I hope they keep making more noise.

Congratulations, your brother won as well tonight. It is a shame that we

were on at the same time, none of my family came to watch me! My brother

is the priority, he is the number one son! That is why I am so

competitive. A sad story, but thank you very much! How lovely was that!

Andy Murray, another masterful performance from him, his defence of

the Wimbledon title is going well and we look forward to the second

week with Andy Murray in tremendous form. If you want to see more
