Good at noon, and welcome to viewers on BBC Two to Wimbledon on day

:00:38.:00:46.

three. The weather isn't being kind to others. Some play getting

:00:47.:00:50.

underway, but other matches have been postponed already, it is all

:00:51.:00:53.

down to the players and whether they want to continue or not. We've

:00:54.:00:57.

already had some heavy rain here this morning, and more showers

:00:58.:01:03.

forecast, so it'll be one of those difficult days at Wimbledon. We have

:01:04.:01:08.

the roof on Centre Court, and that is wonderful because we are

:01:09.:01:11.

guaranteed play through the afternoon. And play is getting

:01:12.:01:16.

underway in just a moment. And we've got three incredible matches to look

:01:17.:01:24.

forward to, starting with Agnieszka Radwanska, then it is Novak

:01:25.:01:29.

Djokovic, the defending champion, against a man whose birthday it is,

:01:30.:01:41.

Manor -- Mannarino, and then Marcus Willis, who won his first round to

:01:42.:01:44.

take on Roger Federer. That is lost on centre. Caught one will be

:01:45.:01:51.

affected by the weather, and no weather, Monica Puig to continue him

:01:52.:01:55.

much against Jo Konta, who is seeded for the first time, and Konta was a

:01:56.:02:01.

net excellent form, 6-1, 2-1, she leads against Puig, and then it is

:02:02.:02:11.

Grigor Dimitrov against my loss Raonic, who has John McEnroe as his

:02:12.:02:14.

coach -- my loss Dan Evans will take on Alexander

:02:15.:02:25.

Dolgopolov, Heather Watson has started her match, she's up against

:02:26.:02:35.

Annika Beck, and the other match. The roof is of, and these are the

:02:36.:02:39.

scenes at the minutes ago. The former runner up here, Agnieszka

:02:40.:02:46.

Radwanska, seeded number three, up against Kateryna Kozlova, who is

:02:47.:02:49.

playing in her first ever Wimbledon. What a way to start.

:02:50.:02:51.

APPLAUSE Radwanska knows her way around the

:02:52.:03:05.

Centre Court, former runner up, she was a semifinalist last year, seeded

:03:06.:03:10.

three up against a player ranked 97 in the world. She is always tough on

:03:11.:03:14.

all services. That is the match we will be joining on Centre Court.

:03:15.:03:21.

Everyone else trying get some practice in between the showers.

:03:22.:03:25.

Roger Federer has been arriving here this morning, we've seen Marcus

:03:26.:03:28.

Willis's opponent arrived early. Roger taking it easy. He has arrived

:03:29.:03:35.

here and out on the practice court. Andrew Castle is with me. It is

:03:36.:03:40.

tough to get some practice. Anything is good, you have to go through the

:03:41.:03:45.

gears gently, not worry if you have to go indoors. You might want to hit

:03:46.:03:52.

one or two more shots. Sharing a courtroom Marin Cilic, everyone

:03:53.:03:57.

trying to get on for that not enough. Some people get touchy about

:03:58.:04:07.

that. Just easing the body into it, little bit adjustment required. It

:04:08.:04:14.

is one of those days when you want to have some shirts on stand-by. No

:04:15.:04:18.

great panics, certainly not for those playing on Centre Court like

:04:19.:04:23.

Roger. His concern maybe, who is this person I am playing crash Mark

:04:24.:04:27.

there was a wonderful quote, how many matches he has, he only has

:04:28.:04:36.

one. These are live pictures, and Roger out there. He does not know

:04:37.:04:46.

what to expect, but markers, we call him the Willbomb, because he has a

:04:47.:04:54.

great shot. He was asked what advantages he has over Roger. He

:04:55.:04:58.

said people have any seen him play one match. Roger was playing in the

:04:59.:05:06.

US, and got a Snickers bar out of his bag. Those days are gone for

:05:07.:05:10.

Roger was he will take it seriously. He will take it as seriously as he

:05:11.:05:14.

does every other contest because Marcus Willis is a man to be

:05:15.:05:18.

respected. He has great talent. The idea of going on Centre Court

:05:19.:05:23.

against a seven time champion, markers will adore it for supper he

:05:24.:05:28.

won't be overwhelmed. Certainly a big day for Marcus Willis. It is the

:05:29.:05:36.

story of the day. I love the T-shirt with the London bus with SWR 19. He

:05:37.:05:44.

loves this place. This place as a brand and a postcode, and this plays

:05:45.:05:49.

is fantastic to play tennis. Roger loves it as much as anybody to stop

:05:50.:05:54.

we love watching him play. We do not know how longer he will be a force

:05:55.:05:58.

at the top. He hasn't played too many matches, he's been injured. You

:05:59.:06:04.

want to play him in a first round, not second. You want to play him at

:06:05.:06:08.

the he's been injured. He didn't play at the French Open, and then he

:06:09.:06:16.

lost to the band coming German. It was the youngest guy he had lost a

:06:17.:06:24.

bit -- lost two in a number of years. He was running a bath for his

:06:25.:06:30.

kid and hurt his knee. He had to have an operation, a little tear.

:06:31.:06:37.

And he's had the back problems. You can't go on for ever, even though

:06:38.:06:41.

you play with great economy and with this wonderful fluidity, your body

:06:42.:06:46.

does start paying the price eventually. Perhaps we are seeing

:06:47.:06:50.

the beginning of it now so I hope he plays for another 20 years, because

:06:51.:06:55.

I can watch any day. He makes it look so easy. His code will have

:06:56.:07:00.

been doing the scouting on his opponent. He is a tactician and a

:07:01.:07:07.

hard man. And another bright guy, an intelligent one, and will tell Roger

:07:08.:07:12.

what he needs to know about markers. He is left-handed, and he has eight

:07:13.:07:16.

by Bill is serve, and he plays a lot of drop volleys.

:07:17.:07:24.

Here is markers, he is leaving the practice courts. Having to sign his

:07:25.:07:32.

autograph now, he is becoming a star. It is one of these things,

:07:33.:07:38.

Roger will sign one or two, because there is a corridor which goes

:07:39.:07:43.

underneath atonal from the practice facility to the broadcast centre.

:07:44.:07:48.

You might sign one or two and get down those stairs. Roger might sign

:07:49.:07:53.

one or two because he is a big man. Markers might be well advised to

:07:54.:07:57.

move on and find his own space, maybe take 15 minutes before the

:07:58.:08:01.

match to calm his own mind and go into his own world. The destruction

:08:02.:08:05.

of Centre Court and the distractions are being centre of attention, when

:08:06.:08:09.

it hits you, it can be sick of again. We were talking to markers

:08:10.:08:13.

about going on to Centre Court, and we heard he went on to there. I

:08:14.:08:20.

remember the first time, it is the backdrop, it is so big. The court

:08:21.:08:27.

felt so small. I remember Court Number One, he went from Centre

:08:28.:08:32.

Court changing room, we went from being indoors between centre and

:08:33.:08:36.

one, and then you are merged and see this mass of West and people with

:08:37.:08:40.

all the colours and sunshine. The first thing I did was screened my

:08:41.:08:47.

eyes and tripped over the grass. A portent of things to come but I did

:08:48.:08:54.

and see the grass. Roger Taylor said, head down, don't look at the

:08:55.:08:59.

crowd. I think he will do different. When he walked out on court 16, he

:09:00.:09:05.

was chanting with his friends in the corner, he was almost doing a dance.

:09:06.:09:13.

I think he will embrace it and make almost it fun. When you emerge on

:09:14.:09:18.

December court, that is a different ball game stop we will see if can

:09:19.:09:25.

put one foot into the other. -- on Centre Court. I almost did a curtsy.

:09:26.:09:31.

McEnroe said his knees were knocking. I was playing on Court

:09:32.:09:39.

Number One on centre. When you met before the two show courts there,

:09:40.:09:47.

Chrissie Evatt was the. She looked at me and said, it will be OK. It

:09:48.:09:55.

was her saying it to me. Marcus is playing Roger Federer, not just on

:09:56.:10:00.

centre, against our Lord Rodger. It will be fascinating to watch. It is

:10:01.:10:05.

a real highlight. Did you win your first match crash Mark I did. And

:10:06.:10:10.

she was one of the people I looked up to. She had retired and come

:10:11.:10:17.

back. She was world number one in 1959, and you were not bad. She

:10:18.:10:25.

wasn't at her peak, I need to say. Well, we are going to Centre Court

:10:26.:10:31.

in just a moment because, as we saw, Radwanska Kozlova are on court, but

:10:32.:10:35.

let's show you what is happening here, and the covers are on, so

:10:36.:10:42.

Tomic is 5-3 in his match against Fernando Verdasco, but they have had

:10:43.:10:46.

to go off. This is on Court number 18, just a few moments ago, Tomas

:10:47.:10:52.

Berdych, the former finalist come up against Ivan Dodig, he served for

:10:53.:10:58.

the match in this time no mistake. He won that in a tie-break, so 7-6

:10:59.:11:04.

in the fourth set, there were match point, so Tomas Berdych going in for

:11:05.:11:07.

set against Ivan Dodig, and they stayed on the court, even when the

:11:08.:11:11.

rain was coming down. Both players wanted to stay on and finish it, and

:11:12.:11:17.

Tomas Berdych has come through. That was a treat for the players, but I

:11:18.:11:20.

see the ground staff running on so the net was coming down, the covers

:11:21.:11:24.

were coming on and everyone will have to sit and wait yet again.

:11:25.:11:29.

Which means that the only court now that we can focus on is Centre

:11:30.:11:34.

Court, and we saw the players going out there, select go and join that,

:11:35.:11:41.

it is the former runner-up Agnieszka Radwanska against Kateryna Kozlova.

:11:42.:11:47.

They are about to go, is alleged to our commentators, Lindsay Davenport

:11:48.:11:52.

alongside Matt Chilton. Good afternoon, Centre Court is covered

:11:53.:12:00.

by folding fabric roof, and the players are warm and dry, and

:12:01.:12:05.

Radwanska from Poland just applying that sticky material to her hands.

:12:06.:12:14.

Give her a better grip on her racket. Her opponent, Kateryna

:12:15.:12:18.

Kozlova from Ukraine is not a full house, but it will be as the

:12:19.:12:24.

afternoon unfolds. At the moment there is plenty of space on Centre

:12:25.:12:30.

Court. Lindsay Davenport, former champion, is beside me, as the

:12:31.:12:35.

players prepared to get this first rounds match underway. It will be

:12:36.:12:37.

Radwanska to serve. LINDSAY DAVENPORT: These are perfect

:12:38.:12:48.

conditions for Radwanska, her favoured service is the grass, and

:12:49.:12:53.

when the group is close, it makes it easier for Agnieszka Radwanska to

:12:54.:12:55.

play her style of tennis. Nice aggressive tennis from Kozlova,

:12:56.:13:15.

that will settle the nerves. The nerves have to be flowing in

:13:16.:13:19.

Kozlova, just the second Grand Slam of her career, and it is on Centre

:13:20.:13:22.

Court at Wimbledon. Oh, what a start from Kozlova! A

:13:23.:13:51.

perfectly measured point, and Kozlova will have some time to play

:13:52.:13:54.

her style of aggressive baseline tennis. Agnieszka does not play it

:13:55.:14:07.

that hard. But she plated it so well. -- places.

:14:08.:14:28.

A tricky start for Radwanska, Kozlova gets a break point in the

:14:29.:14:35.

first game of this first round match. Scheduled to be played

:14:36.:14:42.

yesterday, but rain delayed until the first Wednesday.

:14:43.:15:34.

Radwanska is going to make Kozlova hit a lots of balls today, with

:15:35.:15:43.

different paces, different spins, Agnieszka with some of the best

:15:44.:15:45.

hands in women's tennis. Well, Kozlova will be pretty happy

:15:46.:16:32.

with that star, despite the first error, she attended to double drop

:16:33.:16:37.

Radwanska, who should be happy with the way things have gone. Her coach

:16:38.:16:45.

front right with her fist on her chin. Gripped by what has gone on so

:16:46.:16:53.

far, and plenty more to compass up and her family and friends behind.

:16:54.:16:58.

And there is the Radwanska's box, with her coach heading partners stop

:16:59.:17:01.

and hit coach. Kozlova's first service game, let's

:17:02.:17:14.

see if she can get this done. See how Kozlova handles now serving,

:17:15.:17:39.

sometimes the nerves, they can reveal themselves in the serve of

:17:40.:17:42.

certain players. This is the biggest match of this young lady's career so

:17:43.:17:47.

far. And on the biggest stage in tennis.

:17:48.:18:04.

You won't get many of those from Agnieszka Radwanska, unforced

:18:05.:18:12.

errors, her totals from sets normally are four, maybe five.

:18:13.:18:30.

Hoping to finish the point of quickly there, and heading to the

:18:31.:18:37.

crosscourt backhand winner. It was way of target, she is already

:18:38.:18:43.

playing three unforced errors, 15-30.

:18:44.:18:58.

The crowd getting Bataille into. APPLAUSE

:18:59.:19:17.

-- getting Bataille and hurt. Two break points.

:19:18.:19:25.

That would be helpful to Kozlova, first serve as effective, with some

:19:26.:19:31.

nice placement. This looks good. Well left by

:19:32.:19:59.

Radwanska. Terrific judgment about. There is the first break of serve.

:20:00.:20:07.

It is always a tough way to lose your first service game, two double

:20:08.:20:11.

fault, and unforced errors, and a point she should have and could have

:20:12.:20:19.

won, Kozlova. But Aga, she is so tough to put a bull against, she

:20:20.:20:24.

moves so well around the court and wonderful anticipation -- ball.

:20:25.:20:52.

Oh, it has come up short again. Right idea, unfortunately for

:20:53.:21:05.

Kozlova, the execution what is let her down. She was pulled wide,

:21:06.:21:13.

Kozlova just hit that half-volley, wasn't ready for it to come back

:21:14.:21:15.

that hard. Oh, I love the. Longest rally, 19

:21:16.:22:01.

strokes. A little bit Radwanska magic. It is a perfect point from

:22:02.:22:08.

Radwanska, you so cut saw all of her shots, a deep slice, drop shot, but

:22:09.:22:13.

see how smart she is to follow that ball into the net, looking to take

:22:14.:22:21.

it as if the as possible. -- is the as She is not playing the wind. Not

:22:22.:22:31.

today. Yes. Another marathon rally. And

:22:32.:23:25.

that last rally, 20 shots. I get the feeling there will be a lot of

:23:26.:23:29.

quick, easy points in this match. Both these players are very

:23:30.:23:37.

consistent of the ground. Kozlova is competitive, just does not have the

:23:38.:23:39.

finishing touch. Some great play from Kozlova. If she

:23:40.:24:22.

gets an opportunity to move forward with a short ball, she should take

:24:23.:24:28.

it and not hesitate. It is so tough to hit passing shots on grass, time

:24:29.:24:30.

and time again. That is the kind of return you can't

:24:31.:24:49.

miss. Second serve, 75 mph. Kozlova considered the challenge,

:24:50.:25:32.

but in the end accepted the control, and Radwanska is off to a flying

:25:33.:25:33.

start. So, 13 minutes of play, and a decent

:25:34.:25:49.

start for Agnieszka Radwanska, but she has had to work hard for some of

:25:50.:25:54.

the point, they have been long and arduous, 15, 16, 20 strokes the

:25:55.:26:04.

longest. So if she, she will get a lot of cheap points, she will have

:26:05.:26:11.

to think again. Gemma Arterton is among the guests in the rural box

:26:12.:26:19.

this afternoon. She is sitting next to Roger Federer's father, and his

:26:20.:26:29.

mother is one along in the pink top. Next to the chairman of the

:26:30.:26:34.

All-England Club. A couple matches early for their son. Won't make it

:26:35.:26:38.

out until later today, but enjoying the Royal box. It looks like the

:26:39.:26:44.

sweets are being passed around. Why not? It is the role Highness, Prince

:26:45.:26:50.

of Kent in the Royal box. -- Royal. Stunning from Radwanska. Radwanska

:26:51.:27:50.

is the type of player you could put a tiny coin on the court and within

:27:51.:27:55.

two or three shots, she would hit it, that is how precise her aim is

:27:56.:27:56.

of the ground. Kozlova has a night looking game,

:27:57.:28:32.

technically her strokes are sound, it seems the occasion is just

:28:33.:28:37.

overwhelming her, little bit of tension in her, due to many unforced

:28:38.:28:43.

errors. Radwanska puts an awful lot of slice and spin on that backhand.

:28:44.:28:51.

And especially in an error where how many plays do that, not many like to

:28:52.:28:55.

hit a lot of slice. It is not a common playing stout

:28:56.:29:03.

these days. -- playing style. Oh, that is with a challenge, I

:29:04.:29:33.

think. I wonder how often she has played with the Hawk-Eye system

:29:34.:29:37.

available to her was ready, I would imagine. Exactly, not often, it is

:29:38.:29:44.

just on the main show courts around the world. Another opportunity for

:29:45.:29:46.

Radwanska to break serve. That is racing away with the opening

:29:47.:30:06.

set, in just 17 minutes. She has got herself to a lead of 4-0. Under the

:30:07.:30:14.

roof of Wimbledon Centre Court, cruising so far. Kozlova needs a

:30:15.:30:23.

game alongside her name, just to get a foothold in this first set.

:30:24.:30:37.

Radwanska would like this double-checked. We will see if it

:30:38.:30:47.

had another top spent to drop in, and it did, just off the line.

:30:48.:30:55.

That'll at least have reminded Kateryna Kozlova the challenge

:30:56.:30:57.

system is here to be used. Exactly. And a a the allegedly going to

:30:58.:31:40.

border. -- you get the sense that this could be a very competitive

:31:41.:31:45.

match. An excellent young player, Kozlova, just has not been able to

:31:46.:31:49.

play her best because of the occasion. A decent server from

:31:50.:31:52.

Radwanska, 102 mph down the centre. Now she is a little more fired up.

:31:53.:32:23.

Two break points. Great anticipation of the short ball getting up to that

:32:24.:32:27.

in another time. I loved the acceleration on contact.

:32:28.:32:44.

Double fault and a break of serve. Kateryna Kozlova is in this match.

:32:45.:33:03.

Agnieszka Radwanska, third in the WTA rankings now. This according to

:33:04.:33:14.

the various stats that we can accumulate and analyse, is because

:33:15.:33:19.

of her magnificent return of serve. Such great anticipation when

:33:20.:33:23.

returning serve, and again she can put it anywhere she wants to with

:33:24.:33:28.

great depth in that return. The second on tour in breaking server.

:33:29.:33:33.

Almost 60% of returning second serve points. And she almost needs to

:33:34.:33:40.

because of her own serve, it is not that strong. But she has absolutely

:33:41.:33:45.

perfected her return game and that has made her one of the best players

:33:46.:33:52.

on the WTA. She also has that unique crouching forehand that she plays.

:33:53.:33:57.

We have not seen it much in evidence so far this afternoon. But I think

:33:58.:34:06.

we will get a few. Tim Hammond's father is in the Royal box. -- Tim

:34:07.:34:15.

Henman's father. He is in the members seating, I am told, not the

:34:16.:34:16.

Royal box. Just a little slice of good fortune.

:34:17.:34:45.

The lob was well executed. She looks so much more comfortable

:34:46.:35:11.

right now, on this occasion, Kozlov. Just a few moments ago she had twice

:35:12.:35:20.

as many unforced errors. Now she has cut down on some of the loose

:35:21.:35:24.

errors, focusing on playing aggressive tennis.

:35:25.:35:54.

Too good. Radwanska having to sidestep the umpires chair.

:35:55.:36:43.

Kozlova serves out to love, a further boost to her confidence.

:36:44.:36:50.

Such a sigh of relief when you are able to hold serve for the first

:36:51.:36:56.

time. She still manages to run for the drop shot, avoiding the stairs

:36:57.:37:03.

and the umpire stand with brace. -- with grace. Such a fantastic

:37:04.:37:04.

athlete. It feels like this match has

:37:05.:37:37.

completely turned in the last few minutes, with no question that

:37:38.:37:40.

Kozlova is a completely different player than she was at the start of

:37:41.:37:42.

this match. Typical Radwanska, able to raise the

:37:43.:38:16.

level of her game. Kozlova is forcing her to do that right now.

:38:17.:38:25.

The first stage of the match. -- the first ace of the match. Also,

:38:26.:38:35.

Radwanska's hardest serve of the match. She does not get it much

:38:36.:38:39.

harder than that in the court. She goes for consistency rather than

:38:40.:38:40.

pace. Good defence but all she could do

:38:41.:38:55.

was hoisted up for a comfortable finish.

:38:56.:39:44.

Radwanska moves to within a game of sealing the opening set.

:39:45.:39:51.

After 27 minutes of play, cause liver has settled her nerves and he

:39:52.:40:00.

started to contribute greatly to the entertainment of this match. --

:40:01.:40:07.

Kozlova has settled her nerves. She is making this match much more

:40:08.:40:13.

competitive. It is mainly nerves that were affecting her at the

:40:14.:40:18.

beginning. It is very intimidating, this court, to come onto and play

:40:19.:40:22.

just her second grand slam singles match. And after every change of

:40:23.:40:30.

end, she is playing in front of even more spectators. The Arena capacity,

:40:31.:40:41.

15,000. Starting to fail. Such an odd feeling when you know that

:40:42.:40:45.

everyone has their eye on this match.

:40:46.:40:59.

A little extra pressure now for Kateryna Kozlova, whose coach has

:41:00.:41:05.

been gripped throughout, has not taken her eyes off her player. New

:41:06.:41:08.

balls may help. Kozlova set yourself up beautifully

:41:09.:42:02.

for a second short ball, she wants to continue setting yourself up for

:42:03.:42:06.

aggressive tennis, going after their chances against Radwanska.

:42:07.:42:13.

A bit of lucky accuracy on her length. Radwanska couple of points

:42:14.:42:52.

away from the opening set. Radwanska's coach on the bottom left

:42:53.:43:39.

has been working with Aga five years now. She used to spend a lot of time

:43:40.:43:41.

with her father as her coach. He really helped Aga take her game

:43:42.:43:48.

to another level. The ball tangled up at her feet.

:43:49.:44:49.

After 32 minutes, the number three seed has a set point.

:44:50.:45:28.

A good way to finish. Spectacular tennis. Radwanska takes the opening

:45:29.:45:43.

set. 6-2. Saving the best for last, Aga.

:45:44.:46:01.

Started really well, then faced a more competitive opponent in the

:46:02.:46:08.

middle of the set. No question, the quality got better towards the

:46:09.:46:12.

latter stages of that second set. As we have seen so often, Aga able to

:46:13.:46:16.

lift the level of her game without opponent. The second serve points

:46:17.:46:32.

won, just 25%. That number has to be a lot higher for Kozlova. On the

:46:33.:46:37.

flip side, Aga doing a great job defending her second serve. A few

:46:38.:46:43.

more unforced errors from Radwanska than we're used to seeing. A very

:46:44.:46:48.

solid set from the number three seed.

:46:49.:47:18.

Radwanska has the added advantage of serving at the start of set number

:47:19.:47:22.

two, leading one love. -- 1-0. There is no doubt that Kozlova is

:47:23.:47:37.

going to have to really attempt to go for these big shots. And hope

:47:38.:47:40.

that it works out. Especially on grass, grass really

:47:41.:48:04.

rewards and aggressive mindset. Kozlova just needs a little bit more

:48:05.:48:08.

pace and purpose with shots to put herself in an position more. -- in

:48:09.:48:15.

an offensive position. It takes something special to be one

:48:16.:48:28.

of the players at the top of the game, to play one of your best

:48:29.:48:33.

matches. But a lot of times you have to take a lot of risk and have the

:48:34.:48:37.

courage to go for your shots and go for the win. One of the best players

:48:38.:48:49.

on tour who has not won a grand slam title. She has been in the final of

:48:50.:48:53.

Wimbledon. Oliver skills in evidence there.

:48:54.:49:25.

Radwanska resetting that point with a one-handed volley. Right here, she

:49:26.:49:32.

got it high over the net, to give herself time to get back. A little

:49:33.:49:39.

pirouette as well. Unbelievable athleticism from Radwanska.

:49:40.:50:22.

Radwanska taking a few extra seconds before she prepares to serve here.

:50:23.:50:45.

What a time for one offer better. Radwanska spending a little bit more

:50:46.:51:04.

time with that serve. You mentioned one of the best players to have not

:51:05.:51:08.

won a grand slam. Do you think she gets one? She deserves one.

:51:09.:51:26.

In behind her opponent. Terrific spatial awareness from Radwanska.

:51:27.:52:19.

Kateryna Kozlova preparing to serve. Her first service game of the second

:52:20.:52:25.

set. Started little slowly, the start of

:52:26.:52:42.

the opening set was tricky but she got used to the big stage. She has

:52:43.:52:46.

never played on a grass court a roof on such a prestigious sporting

:52:47.:52:54.

arena. She settled down, playing some big shots. She made Radwanska

:52:55.:53:08.

work for that opening set. No question that level of tennis has

:53:09.:53:13.

been much higher from these two since the first two games. Nice to

:53:14.:53:21.

see this young lady settled down and play some very good tennis against

:53:22.:53:23.

one of the world's best. SUE BARKER: We're leaving this match

:53:24.:53:59.

on BBC Two because it now continues live over on BBC One. Ten this

:54:00.:54:04.

afternoon on Centre Court continues now over on BBC One. -- tennis this

:54:05.:54:09.

afternoon. More tennis for you in just a moment but outside you can

:54:10.:54:12.

see the roof is closed on Centre Court but the covers are an

:54:13.:54:16.

all-around Wimbledon. No immediate prospect of play, I am sorry to say.

:54:17.:54:21.

No umbrellas up at the moment, it is going through a bit of a dry spell

:54:22.:54:25.

but they are not risking taking the covers off until they can have a

:54:26.:54:29.

long enough period of dry weather to get the players back onto court.

:54:30.:54:33.

Some umbrellas are still up on Henman Hill but they are enjoying

:54:34.:54:39.

watching it on the big screen. Hopefully we will get some play on

:54:40.:54:43.

the outside court for these very patient spectators. Of course Centre

:54:44.:54:48.

Court will feature for us this man as the main attraction, Marcus

:54:49.:54:52.

Willis. We had not heard of them before, he is Britain's number 23,

:54:53.:54:58.

ranked 772 in the world. But he has come through seven matches and he is

:54:59.:55:01.

on the front page of most of the papers. An incredible story of how

:55:02.:55:05.

he almost gave up, and was courage to come back because his girlfriend

:55:06.:55:09.

said, give it one more chance. And here he is, on Centre Court, playing

:55:10.:55:15.

Roger Federer. The best story I can remember here at Wimbledon. And

:55:16.:55:18.

certainly looking very relaxed. You would not believe he is taking on

:55:19.:55:22.

the great Roger later. And your ears, having to share a court with

:55:23.:55:26.

Marin Cilic because of the rain, doubling up on the practice courts,

:55:27.:55:31.

trying to get their feet on the grass, to get ready for the matches.

:55:32.:55:35.

Looking very relaxed. He has been there before, hasn't he? The seven

:55:36.:55:40.

time champion taking on a player ranked 772. It is a wonderful story.

:55:41.:55:48.

And everyone is going to watch the matches because that is the only

:55:49.:55:52.

tennis that they are seeing at the moment. The big screen is certainly

:55:53.:55:56.

a welcome attraction here at Wimbledon and a very popular

:55:57.:56:00.

attraction. Everyone making their way to Henman Hill. But when I said

:56:01.:56:04.

I had some tennis for you, one match was played today out on Court 18,

:56:05.:56:11.

and Tomas Berdych was able to finish off his match in the fourth set,

:56:12.:56:15.

winning the tie-break 7-2 against Ivan Dodig of Croatia. The former

:56:16.:56:22.

runner-up here, Tomas Berdych is through to the second round where he

:56:23.:56:28.

will face Benjamin Becker. That was the last match on Court when

:56:29.:56:33.

everyone else had scurried off to the locker room to complete their

:56:34.:56:40.

match. One other result, this match, they came back at 5-1 and Andrea

:56:41.:56:52.

Pekovic from Germany won 6-2, with just three games played today.

:56:53.:56:59.

Through to the final sent. -- the final set. This is Court number two,

:57:00.:57:06.

where they are patiently waiting for tennis to continue. We will show you

:57:07.:57:09.

what happened on that court earlier today because this match was held

:57:10.:57:13.

over from last night between Fernando Verdasco, quarterfinalist

:57:14.:57:16.

here in 2013, up against Bernard Tomic, thrilled that this match was

:57:17.:57:21.

held over because he was struggling with fatigue in the fourth set. We

:57:22.:57:26.

join it at the start of the fifth set. Verdasco serving and in the

:57:27.:57:29.

commentary box, Mark Petchey and Paul hand.

:57:30.:57:57.

Not the start that he was looking for. Apart from the weather and the

:57:58.:58:08.

rain, they have had to contend with, the one thing that is evident around

:58:09.:58:12.

the grounds today is the winter. It has been blowing a gale. Some of the

:58:13.:58:15.

courts more protected but not easy. And somebody that has a very

:58:16.:58:32.

unpredictable ball toss at times as well. This could be problematic for

:58:33.:58:36.

further skill. -- for Verdasco. He missed the return but you could

:58:37.:59:00.

already see tour match jogging to the other side. -- Bernard Tomic.

:59:01.:59:07.

Trying to make sure a similar thing does not happen today. Things are

:59:08.:59:14.

still happening for further skill. He will be delighted with that one.

:59:15.:59:15.

A timely ace. As anticipated, yesterday was full

:59:16.:59:39.

of ups and downs for both players. Neither could grab the reins and run

:59:40.:59:41.

with it for long. At the start of this climatic fifth

:59:42.:59:51.

set, a very similar vein. That is an opportunity for the

:59:52.:00:11.

Australian, which has got away from him, and untidy start from Verdasco

:00:12.:00:16.

early on in that game, a couple of clean serves to finish it off, and

:00:17.:00:22.

he takes a 1-0 lead. He has been serving more effectively than Tomic,

:00:23.:00:28.

he has hit 24 aces in the match, as opposed to ten from Tomic, which is

:00:29.:00:34.

still respectable. Bernard is also very effective of his first serve,

:00:35.:00:40.

winning 79% of the points in doing so, for Tomic, it is about landing

:00:41.:00:44.

this first serve, it is so important to him.

:00:45.:01:02.

Verdasco was a bit hesitant there, he rolled that approach rather than

:01:03.:01:09.

thrashing at it, which he was doing dismissively yesterday.

:01:10.:01:37.

Sloppy footwork around that forehand, going with the hand

:01:38.:01:40.

skills. A bit unlucky, but that was a

:01:41.:01:51.

positive point from Verdasco. He looks or wired, doesn't he? So

:01:52.:02:33.

focused, Tomic. There is a classic case of a player

:02:34.:02:55.

like the bus go, who is proficient -- like Verdasco. He is not looking

:02:56.:03:00.

to coming, and he was hesitant in getting up to that ball, he wasn't

:03:01.:03:02.

looking for it. He is aware, we sought yesterday if

:03:03.:03:14.

he can get that there's striking with authority, he has the upper

:03:15.:03:20.

hand, because Tomic is not that explosive with his movement, there

:03:21.:03:24.

is a hesitancy in that. Throughout all of yesterday as well, using his

:03:25.:03:30.

visual skills and hand skills to get the ball as quickly as he can. Oh,

:03:31.:03:38.

that was from the top drawer. He was right off the court, outside of the

:03:39.:03:42.

alley and knew he had to pull the trigger down the line. Look at that,

:03:43.:03:45.

slaps it into the corner. Oh, boy. How did he even have a

:03:46.:04:09.

chance to hit the past? It was an awful drop shot, but Verdasco was

:04:10.:04:15.

tentative, some real nerves on court to. Big moment for both players. And

:04:16.:04:22.

the Verdasco guilty of guessing with the feet, and he is dragging his

:04:23.:04:27.

butt on the grass. Maybe indicating he deals it was slippy -- dragging

:04:28.:04:32.

his foot. He goes on to win it, that forehand

:04:33.:04:49.

down the line maybe the reason he does it because he was under

:04:50.:04:56.

pressure, but survives it. There is a hesitant serving from Tomic, but

:04:57.:05:00.

Verdasco not warmed up enough to take advantage from it. Having to

:05:01.:05:04.

deal with a lot of back behind from the Australian. Deadlock again in

:05:05.:05:09.

this climatic finish. And it gets a glancing blow for the

:05:10.:06:00.

ball boy at the other end. An entirely different service game

:06:01.:06:28.

for Verdasco second time around. In this fifth and deciding set, as he

:06:29.:06:39.

holds to love. And I guess for the neutrals, that was the perfect

:06:40.:06:45.

opening games in many ways, just picks up the pressure and intrigue.

:06:46.:06:49.

Very much, it was encouraging for all Spanish fans, that love hold,

:06:50.:06:55.

and because Verdasco is leading in the set, the sit down puts more

:06:56.:07:00.

pressure on to the Australian. It is a must hold service game for Bernard

:07:01.:07:05.

Tomic. Tough moments for him. He wrestled with his opening service

:07:06.:07:11.

game, he is having far from his own way, up against it momentum wise. It

:07:12.:07:16.

seems Verdasco, since the resumption, has continued on well

:07:17.:07:19.

from where he left off late yesterday. Tomic talking about how

:07:20.:07:29.

confident he was in terms of the results, at Queen's, but could get

:07:30.:07:35.

derailed here on the third day of Wimbledon if he can't put away

:07:36.:07:39.

Verdasco. That is a nervous looking farther, he is not looking as if he

:07:40.:07:41.

is sure where it is going. Nicely done. That was very

:07:42.:08:05.

encouraging. We haven't seen Tomic going to the net, but when he does

:08:06.:08:10.

it is effective, because he is six foot five.

:08:11.:08:33.

Some of those perceived faults, Kyrgios and Tomic of court, the one

:08:34.:08:42.

thing you have to say on court is they play nice and quick.

:08:43.:08:50.

No hanging around, and Verdasco lands a double handed down the line,

:08:51.:08:59.

gone across court mostly, but this time he catches Tomic unaware.

:09:00.:09:20.

Sweet play, greater use of the court and the angles. It is nonchalant,

:09:21.:09:31.

brilliant from Tomic, finding an angle with pace, finally, he is so

:09:32.:09:34.

good at getting out of those tight situations. Just when he thought

:09:35.:09:40.

Verdasco had the momentum in the point, snuffed out by the

:09:41.:09:50.

Australian. Mr by a considerable distance this. Under pressure at

:09:51.:09:58.

deuce. The forehand of Verdasco has come

:09:59.:10:11.

and gone a lot, he needs to get it on.

:10:12.:10:20.

UMPIRE: The ball was called in. Has he managed to take a piece of

:10:21.:10:31.

the line with that serve? No surprise Verdasco has gone to the

:10:32.:10:38.

challenge, but I did know if Hawk-Eye is a little sodden at the

:10:39.:10:46.

moment. There is a delay. Won't be the first time it doesn't come up,

:10:47.:10:50.

but we will get a definite answer from them, we may just not get the

:10:51.:10:57.

replay. If it doesn't perform, they go with the call, right? Yes. If it

:10:58.:11:09.

is not functioning. UMPIRE: Game, Tomic. Verdasco quite

:11:10.:11:19.

accepting, because he wants to get on with things. In his heart, he

:11:20.:11:25.

knew it was on, so called stand, still nothing between them.

:11:26.:11:57.

An excellent return, because of how flat he had said, Tomic, that

:11:58.:12:04.

slipping off the court service, and Verdasco having to try the $1

:12:05.:12:09.

million shot, but didn't produce it, didn't have an other option.

:12:10.:12:31.

We talked about it a lot yesterday, but that upright stance that Tomic

:12:32.:12:39.

has on the return just doesn't give him that kind of ability like a

:12:40.:12:43.

goalkeeper to dynamically throw himself one way, and that is why

:12:44.:12:45.

Verdasco, with 27 aces... Great shot from Tomic, though.

:12:46.:13:05.

Little more pace, but with that double hander, and again the

:13:06.:13:10.

flatness, they are low and uncomfortable for Verdasco.

:13:11.:13:15.

Australians eyeing the break of serve here.

:13:16.:13:58.

Outfoxed eventually, the Spaniard, latency would get out of this check,

:13:59.:14:11.

thrilled -- Lleyton Hewitt get out of his chair. It was a cagey rally.

:14:12.:14:17.

There was deliberation and it was lulling Verdasco, to say, go for

:14:18.:14:23.

something big, because I know how recklessly you can miss. This is how

:14:24.:14:28.

it ended right here. Verdasco, it was a lung busting point, but one in

:14:29.:14:33.

which Tomic took control. Good use of the heavy slice, that is down so

:14:34.:14:43.

low. Unable to dig it out. Because he is not someone looking to get in

:14:44.:14:50.

to the net, he hung around, you can see that ball was dipping for

:14:51.:14:53.

Verdasco, it was a nightmare, no pace. There is a man who has played

:14:54.:15:00.

big points in big situations as well as anyone else. The infamous come

:15:01.:15:07.

on, even when he is not playing. He has lost none of that passion and

:15:08.:15:12.

drive and burning spirit, Lleyton Hewitt, at all. Now that either will

:15:13.:15:19.

be brought into the Davis Cup for Australia. -- that fever might be

:15:20.:15:36.

worth a challenge. I haven't seen any more umbrellas going up, but

:15:37.:15:47.

certainly... Well, Tomic looking to perhaps think you should have got

:15:48.:15:57.

the point. I am not sure what he was waiting for confirmation for there.

:15:58.:16:03.

How well he used a second bite of the cherry.

:16:04.:16:12.

Two great service, the one prior to that one was 126, which was his

:16:13.:16:17.

equal fastest of the match. The conditions playing havoc for

:16:18.:16:40.

Tomic. It has been a feature of the deciding match, because the grass is

:16:41.:16:41.

a bit damp. Perhaps Verdasco was obscuring the

:16:42.:17:11.

judge there, there was no call. Well, he has won blast 4-macro he

:17:12.:17:43.

has played against the Spaniard, Tomic, and in the Austrian open in

:17:44.:17:49.

2012 he was two sets to love down, came back to win. In Queen's where

:17:50.:17:54.

he dropped the only set to win 6-4, and it looks like you may well edge

:17:55.:17:59.

of Verdasco once again. Again, we can see because of the heavy

:18:00.:18:03.

conditions and wet conditions, that a flat backhand from Tomic, which is

:18:04.:18:09.

considerably the flat is in the top 20, is coming at an uncomfortable

:18:10.:18:12.

height for Verdasco. There has been three unforced

:18:13.:18:34.

forehand from the Spaniard of late. That has been his major weapon

:18:35.:18:39.

alongside the big first serve. It is failing at the moment. He needs to

:18:40.:18:42.

get in touch with it. It is the sort of day amount of wind

:18:43.:18:59.

around, even though it doesn't look bad, you can see the shirt, it is

:19:00.:19:03.

deceptive, but when you swing hard, the chance of missing it is greatly

:19:04.:19:14.

increased. In many ways, it suits, as we said, that sort of sense of

:19:15.:19:19.

caution that Tomic plays this game with, compared to Verdasco, who does

:19:20.:19:23.

like to swing hard. Oh, to good. Where did that one come

:19:24.:19:49.

from? A real firecracker from Verdasco, and did he not need that?

:19:50.:19:57.

Tomic has been so frugal in error, playing a well disciplined match.

:19:58.:20:06.

Just why me thought he was on the cusp of the edge of the cliff, he

:20:07.:20:12.

bails out with a couple of wonderful, timely winners, Verdasco.

:20:13.:20:24.

Just drifting, perhaps even blown wide that, the defence of shot from

:20:25.:20:28.

Tomic. And possibly that is the first step

:20:29.:20:39.

for Verdasco in terms of a comeback year in the final set, it looked

:20:40.:20:42.

unlikely in the last game but he found some of his best tennis, the

:20:43.:20:46.

sort he was playing when he went opening set. Just to keep himself in

:20:47.:20:52.

contention, keep the pressure on the server. Tomic, to his credit, has

:20:53.:20:58.

been landing a lot of first serves. That is pivotal in his quest to get

:20:59.:21:04.

over the finishing line. When he opened out here at the start of the

:21:05.:21:08.

fifth set, he was missing a lot of first serves and putting himself in

:21:09.:21:12.

danger, and Verdasco hitting well. Just recently finding a lot of those

:21:13.:21:18.

first serves in, and it is really helping his cause. It is all about

:21:19.:21:22.

that, he looks measured and in control in these baseline matches,

:21:23.:21:28.

but Verdasco is dangerous work that fiery forehand. Play on here, but on

:21:29.:21:39.

prepared. If you had a ticket book or two, you offer old, and glad you

:21:45.:21:55.

packed your jacket as well. Court 12 is about five metres to the left of

:21:56.:21:59.

this court, so that is eight microclimate and some.

:22:00.:22:09.

Will the pendulum swing, Added has done in a different direction this

:22:10.:22:12.

match? -- as it has done. What a recovery from Verdasco, deep

:22:13.:22:25.

on his baseline. The lead he established either

:22:26.:22:46.

operating for Tomic. -- either It is amazing, we seen this in this

:22:47.:23:07.

account, one man dips, the other risers simultaneously, and it has

:23:08.:23:10.

brought a level match as it consequence.

:23:11.:23:17.

Just as you believe Tomic had not done enough with that forehand

:23:18.:23:25.

approach, think again, he is very good. He has several ways to pick a

:23:26.:23:30.

lock, this man. Still work to do here, though.

:23:31.:23:38.

Just shepherding it out, but Verdasco has missed a trick on that

:23:39.:23:47.

return because it is his favourite serve on the outside, we talked

:23:48.:23:52.

about the technique, Tomic has a right, high shoulder, and he gave

:23:53.:23:57.

him that serve. A big sends you how to make him beat you with your worst

:23:58.:24:01.

served. He should have been camping there. -- a big sends you have to

:24:02.:24:18.

it was like he didn't want to go to the Verdasco forehand, but doing

:24:19.:24:27.

very well to get that point, the Australian. Verdasco hit and miss of

:24:28.:24:29.

that favoured forehand side. He has landed it, can you believe

:24:30.:24:44.

it? Wow it is a game which has had a bit of everything in it. It is not a

:24:45.:24:48.

bad slice at all, clean winner of it from Verdasco.

:24:49.:25:05.

Oh, that is something special. Thought perhaps he had given the

:25:06.:25:13.

game away, but the Australian could not exploited this time. It is one

:25:14.:25:18.

of those to the gold Verdasco rallies where it all comes off, and

:25:19.:25:21.

the break point opportunity. It is edge of the seat stuff, David

:25:22.:25:45.

Sanchez, one of Verdasco's two coaches, and Sanchez on the right in

:25:46.:25:51.

the blue top. Again, his favourite serve on the

:25:52.:26:02.

deuce side, just for Verdasco. What a game this is proving to be.

:26:03.:26:41.

Monumental. Tension in both camps, very, very evident. So tough to

:26:42.:26:42.

call. Again it is well played by Tomic,

:26:43.:27:21.

but he has been given an escape route by being allowed to wear bull

:27:22.:27:27.

play how he wants to play full stop Verdasco perhaps not putting enough

:27:28.:27:35.

pressure on. That was the 50s macro of this game, can he stick the knife

:27:36.:27:40.

in here. -- fifth ace. Oh, he has made it. And Tomic again,

:27:41.:28:03.

when he comes in a lot of the time, he guesses at one way or the other

:28:04.:28:09.

and I don't know if Verdasco saw him after his peripheral vision, but he

:28:10.:28:12.

picked the right side and keeps his slender hopes alive.

:28:13.:28:33.

He loves that of forehand, does Bernard Tomic. It has served him

:28:34.:28:40.

well in that point there. Lleyton Hewitt on the edge of his seat, as

:28:41.:28:47.

is his father, John, as well, captivated by this and crawling

:28:48.:28:48.

contest. -- nth Deuce number seven, can you believe

:28:49.:29:06.

it? Oh, that is so calmly done. Just using calm, Bernard Tomic,

:29:07.:29:35.

plainly off backhand volley with a sense of confidence. That is not

:29:36.:29:43.

really Verdasco's game at all, he created space for an easy forehand

:29:44.:29:48.

winner, and Verdasco is looking as if he doesn't want to play any more.

:29:49.:29:55.

He is sitting down, said that is it for the moment, and the supervisor

:29:56.:29:59.

is out. And this super visor decided play

:30:00.:30:11.

was suspended, so Tomic one game away from winning that opening

:30:12.:30:15.

round, so they can sit and wait and watch the rain. The good news is

:30:16.:30:21.

that play continues on centre, and Novak Djokovic, the world number

:30:22.:30:27.

one, is on court against Adrian Mannarino, and BBC One full stop we

:30:28.:30:31.

are coming off air, because we have no play to show you, but China is on

:30:32.:30:35.

BBC One, the big story of the day will feature this manner, Marcus

:30:36.:30:43.

Willis, he was facing Roger Federer. He is up against a great man, Roger

:30:44.:30:48.

Federer. That'll be later on BBC One. Even John McEnroe has been in

:30:49.:31:02.

press with his story. -- impressed. Let me tell you a story? Against the

:31:03.:31:20.

guy who has it all. Marcus Willis, Britain's number 23, against the

:31:21.:31:28.

greatest of all time. 17 slams, several of them right here. On

:31:29.:31:33.

paper, Willis does not have a chance. But trust me, he can play.

:31:34.:31:43.

His crew are behind him, and while the fairy tale last, he will love

:31:44.:31:46.

every minute. Centre Court, the greater stage for the biggest match

:31:47.:31:51.

of his life. Quite a story, don't you think and for now, the story

:31:52.:31:57.

continues. If you can keep your head when all of those are losing theirs

:31:58.:32:02.

and blaming it on you, you will be a man, my son.

:32:03.:32:03.
