Time... Fleeting and precious. For some it flies by, for others it

:00:54.:01:06.

stands still. I was always joking around when I was a boy, I'm going

:01:07.:01:15.

to win this! But in this place of splendour in the grass, time has no

:01:16.:01:21.

meaning. Here, there is only one true king. He is ageist, he defies

:01:22.:01:31.

the ravages of time and he's the master of all he surveys. Over 20

:01:32.:01:38.

years he has battled on this field of play. Championship number seven!

:01:39.:01:48.

His name etched seven times in silver. This King seeks another

:01:49.:01:58.

crown, but is his time running out? Or is he immortal? No, he just has

:01:59.:02:05.

impeccable Swiss timing. SUE BARKER: He certainly does, Roger

:02:06.:02:12.

Federer has become the king of the All-England Club over the last two

:02:13.:02:16.

decades and everybody wants to see this great champion. Here he is

:02:17.:02:22.

leaving the practice court today, his adoring fans courtside, and he's

:02:23.:02:25.

been voted the most popular player on the tour, voted for by the fans,

:02:26.:02:38.

414 straight years. When you think Rafa has his legion of fans, no one

:02:39.:02:44.

comes close. When you have a record having played 26 matches, won 24 of

:02:45.:02:49.

them and in the two he lost he had match point in 2017, you would be

:02:50.:02:55.

relaxed. Roger keeping an eye on the other courts as well but making his

:02:56.:02:59.

way back to the clubhouse and we will see him on Centre Court later.

:03:00.:03:04.

You can watch our comprehensive coverage on BBC television and the

:03:05.:03:17.

red button. There are six matches. Another lovely day, isn't it? So, we

:03:18.:03:23.

will see the great man Roger Federer later this afternoon, his third

:03:24.:03:30.

match on Centre Court, but we have had four British players going

:03:31.:03:34.

through to the third round and could have another because Kyle Edmund is

:03:35.:03:37.

on Centre Court and we will be going there shortly but first let's take a

:03:38.:03:40.

look at who we will be following today. Of course it will be this

:03:41.:03:46.

man, yes back on Centre Court after his cameo appearance in the first

:03:47.:03:54.

round, the seven time champion faces Dusan Lajovic. Novak Djokovic also

:03:55.:03:59.

had an easy ride in his first match, he's playing Adam Pavlasek. For Kyle

:04:00.:04:10.

Edmund, it is tricky Frenchman Gael Monfils who await the British number

:04:11.:04:23.

two. Kerber, finding her feet, she plays Flipkens.

:04:24.:04:31.

So, let's take a look. There confirmation, it is Monfils against

:04:32.:04:44.

Edmund on Centre Court today. Dominic Thiem, a tough one for the

:04:45.:04:56.

eighth seed against Gilles Simon. On Court Number Two micro, Radwanska in

:04:57.:05:04.

action. Martin Del Potro, former US champion. All of those matches, we

:05:05.:05:11.

will be following. So, I say lovely weather, I came here expecting to

:05:12.:05:14.

see the odd thunderstorm, we have had nothing but blue skies and hot

:05:15.:05:19.

sunshine. Let's hope it will last, let's find out with Carol. It should

:05:20.:05:24.

actually, the showers for the afternoon have diminished. We expect

:05:25.:05:29.

the temperature to rise to about 30 Celsius as we go through the

:05:30.:05:33.

afternoon. Into the evening there is only a 10% risk of a thunderstorm

:05:34.:05:37.

and that will be late evening. The temperature coming down a little

:05:38.:05:42.

bit, still hot and humid and sticky. Tomorrow there will be a lot of dry

:05:43.:05:46.

and bright weather to start with, and as we head into the latter part

:05:47.:05:51.

of the afternoon in early evening, again less than 5% risk of a shower

:05:52.:06:01.

so it is all looking pretty good at the moment. It is good news all the

:06:02.:06:04.

way from you, Carol. Before we head to Centre Court, and we will update

:06:05.:06:07.

you with some results later, just a drop in on the number one court to

:06:08.:06:12.

show you have Novak Djokovic is going. Pretty well, and that is the

:06:13.:06:18.

man he is playing, Adam Pavlasek. That will be over on BBC Two in just

:06:19.:06:23.

a moment, but here we are heading to Centre Court for Kyle Edmund against

:06:24.:06:28.

Gael Monfils, this very talented Frenchman. There's nothing between

:06:29.:06:34.

the moment. Five games all. So let's join our Tim Henman, Boris Becker

:06:35.:06:44.

and Andrew Cotter. -- our commentators.

:06:45.:07:02.

In conditions like these, the first serve is even more important. You

:07:03.:07:18.

just want to get your nose in front. There is something at his left

:07:19.:07:25.

ankle, Monfils. He has been lacing his trainer a lot but he's pulling

:07:26.:07:30.

at it again. Everyone has got his habits, that's his, I've seen it a

:07:31.:07:36.

hundred times. He holds and he keeps his nose in front so it will be

:07:37.:07:45.

Edmund again to serve to stay in it. So who is in the house today? We

:07:46.:07:52.

have seen Rod Laver, has four Wimbledon titles, 11 Grand Slam

:07:53.:08:04.

titles in total. At that time it was, to -- amateur era. There's a

:08:05.:08:19.

lot of famous parents. We have got the Federers, the Middletons...

:08:20.:08:31.

Tough school. And a good match for them all to watch at the moment. A

:08:32.:08:35.

couple of people were wondering if he might be overwhelmed, Kyle

:08:36.:08:40.

Edmonds has the ice in the towel around his neck and his playing well

:08:41.:08:48.

so far. Yes, I think he will find his comfort zone. He is much more at

:08:49.:09:04.

ease. UMPIRE: Time. There is the ice, used as it should be in the ice

:09:05.:09:11.

bucket. Chilling some water at the moment. Trying to cool down, it is

:09:12.:09:17.

hot out there, the forecast will run to 30 degrees today. They do play in

:09:18.:09:22.

hotter conditions around the world, you look at Melbourne or wherever

:09:23.:09:27.

but it is still hard today. They say on the court it is always turn or 15

:09:28.:09:35.

degrees hotter. This is not one of the days when the sun reflects from

:09:36.:09:39.

the ground, but it is still too hot to be comfortable.

:09:40.:09:58.

Again, this forehand really is one of the best out there. Good tactic

:09:59.:10:06.

to go behind Monfils earlier on, then into the open court.

:10:07.:10:31.

Monfils unable in this game, against Edmund serving to stay in it, not

:10:32.:10:40.

been able to exert any real pressure so far. But Kyle is really holding

:10:41.:10:46.

his ground. When he is serving its into the centre of the court and

:10:47.:10:51.

he's pushing his opponent way beyond the baseline.

:10:52.:11:20.

It's the other way round, Monfils was able to dictate, pushing. Tennis

:11:21.:11:28.

is a lot like boxing, who is pushing who into the corner first.

:11:29.:12:05.

Did a lot of good defensive work of there bought the final mistake and

:12:06.:12:16.

Monfils just two points away. Edmund needs to get back to basics now,

:12:17.:12:24.

first serve, first forehand into the point.

:12:25.:12:52.

That was aggressive play from Edmund, and Monfils all the way back

:12:53.:13:00.

behind the baseline started from a very deep second serve.

:13:01.:13:25.

It's long, it is a tie-break, and good work again by Edmund.

:13:26.:13:42.

It seems like the right outcome is set to be decided by a tie-break,

:13:43.:13:55.

both had a couple of opportunities on service, a few break points. Now

:13:56.:14:00.

it falls down to who will take their chance in the tie-break.

:14:01.:14:18.

Overhit that one. Tim, you have mentioned a fine line between being

:14:19.:14:32.

aggressive and being too passive. I think Kyle is treading the waters.

:14:33.:14:40.

That is the Swedish coach of Gael Monfils.

:14:41.:15:16.

Just the final touch eludes him. Again did so much well, but Monfils

:15:17.:15:25.

with the mini-break in this tie-break. Kyle did the right thing,

:15:26.:15:34.

he played the good approach shot and came forward looking to be

:15:35.:15:37.

aggressive but a little too long a swing with the volley. Perhaps try

:15:38.:15:42.

to do too much given the athletic ability of Monfils.

:15:43.:15:55.

Louis van Gaal watching there. Is he employed at the moment? Manager. I

:15:56.:16:14.

think he's retired. That's what I hear from my Dutch friends. Monfils

:16:15.:16:20.

with the stranglehold on this tie-break. Kyle thought he was able

:16:21.:16:34.

to change after four points. Must be the heat.

:16:35.:16:51.

That will do nicely for Edmund as he tries to work his way back in. Some

:16:52.:17:00.

people call that a no-look volley. I know that

:17:01.:17:11.

from basketball but not from tennis. The mistake has come from Edmund

:17:12.:17:37.

again. You can see his church plastered to

:17:38.:17:59.

him in sweat. -- his shirt. It's not impossible but it's a long way back

:18:00.:18:06.

from 1-5. It always starts with the next point. Tape applied for

:18:07.:18:12.

Monfils. Done so much good work through the main body of this set,

:18:13.:18:18.

for Kyle Edmund there's the three break points that came and went.

:18:19.:18:32.

Monfils does his thing again, lace obsessed.

:18:33.:18:47.

And the mishits will bring five set points for the number 15 seed, Gael

:18:48.:18:51.

Monfils. Went for it, and its wide, and Gael

:18:52.:19:20.

Monfils with the dominant performance in the tie-break takes

:19:21.:19:25.

the first set. Edmund wilting at the end and he will have to come back

:19:26.:19:28.

from one set down. SUE BARKER: Nothing between them

:19:29.:19:35.

during the set but one-way traffic, and Gael Monfils goes one set up. We

:19:36.:19:40.

will take this opportunity to bring you a few of the results from

:19:41.:19:43.

earlier today because play got under way at 11:30am on the outside

:19:44.:19:50.

courts. Grigor Dimitrov wasn't on court for that long. Just take a

:19:51.:19:55.

look at this point, and marvel at his athleticism. What a way to

:19:56.:20:00.

finish the match! One of the most talented players ever to play the

:20:01.:20:09.

game, no wonder he was dubbed the baby Fed when he was coming up. And

:20:10.:20:16.

another popular player, Marcus Baghdatis. Grigor Dimitrov on form

:20:17.:20:20.

and the crowd loving that much out on Court two. And Kuznetsova has

:20:21.:20:46.

come through against Makarova, and these two are good friends of the

:20:47.:20:50.

court but it is Kuznetsova through to the next round. Vandeweghe, a

:20:51.:21:02.

good grass court player, has come through in straight sets against

:21:03.:21:07.

Maria and her coach Pat Cash has been telling us how much she has

:21:08.:21:12.

been improving on the grass. She's a real threat. There he is, applauding

:21:13.:21:24.

and happy. So Coco Vandeweghe is also through. Disappointment today

:21:25.:21:32.

for Steve Darcis of Belgium, he tweaked his back and he's eighth man

:21:33.:21:39.

to withdraw from this championship. He did win his first match but he

:21:40.:21:42.

was really struggling and could hardly serve. He made his name here

:21:43.:21:48.

when he put out Rafael Nadal a few years ago, but he has been forced to

:21:49.:21:55.

withdraw so David Ferrer goes through. Over on Court number three,

:21:56.:22:01.

Martindale portrayal of against Gulbis. Both of these players have

:22:02.:22:09.

had injury problems over the years, it's great to see them on court.

:22:10.:22:13.

Martindale portrayal has lost the first set and has a real battle on

:22:14.:22:19.

his hands. That's what's happening elsewhere. Back we go to Centre

:22:20.:22:25.

Court. COMMENTATOR: Right on cue, Kyle

:22:26.:22:29.

Edmund is with us, taking his break at the end of the first set. One

:22:30.:22:33.

thing that won't be questioned as his fitness. He does route all

:22:34.:22:37.

training blocks in Miami over the winter with Andy Murray and he works

:22:38.:22:43.

as hard on his fitness as every other part of the game. It will be

:22:44.:22:48.

not quite a body blow but certainly a dig to the ribs losing the first

:22:49.:22:53.

set after having had the three break points at 4-4. He has got to regroup

:22:54.:22:59.

right now. This will be a test of his character and personality. Late

:23:00.:23:07.

great tennis in the first set -- played great tennis. He has got to

:23:08.:23:12.

make sure he digs his heels in and regroups. He's got the opportunity

:23:13.:23:16.

to serve first in the second set so he can get his nose in front and put

:23:17.:23:22.

some pressure on Monfils and make sure his levels don't drop.

:23:23.:23:40.

He's looking to get a quick start of the second set, he will have given

:23:41.:23:48.

himself a little chat when he was away. The first game after losing

:23:49.:23:55.

the first set is always very important. Emotionally he will be

:23:56.:23:59.

fragile, has to really hold it together.

:24:00.:24:54.

A great game for Kyle Edmund to start the second set, holding to

:24:55.:25:06.

love. In the first set he was moving around the court pretty well and has

:25:07.:25:12.

worked on his forehand. Certainly good play to go back behind a guy

:25:13.:25:19.

who moves as well as Monfils. Go strong to the forehand, open up the

:25:20.:25:24.

backhand, a tactic that has always worked well for Kyle. He's got to

:25:25.:25:31.

look to continue to do that with this. 51% going to the forehand. To

:25:32.:25:37.

then open up the slightly weaker side on the backhand of Monfils. And

:25:38.:25:43.

that is the strategy employed against Edmund, because he leaves

:25:44.:25:49.

the forehand side always opened, so you can see the Monfils back on the

:25:50.:25:53.

line and crosscourt, that's exactly how players want to play against

:25:54.:26:01.

Kyle. Monfils taking every moment available, trying to cool down.

:26:02.:26:10.

Takes a bit long, I find, from the changeover. There is something

:26:11.:26:12.

bothering him. Beautifully done. Monfils exposed at

:26:13.:26:22.

the net. Edmund in two minds, not doing quite

:26:23.:26:54.

enough. He is shortening the points now. I wonder if the last couple of

:26:55.:27:01.

long baseline rally has taken its toll. Monfils living at the net in

:27:02.:27:10.

this game and it's costing him. There is something different now. Is

:27:11.:27:15.

that a full road -- furrowed brow. Monfils does do

:27:16.:27:35.

that but if you are Kyle Edmund you have to sense your opponent is not

:27:36.:27:44.

entirely comfortable. And that's a very important point because this is

:27:45.:27:48.

really just about one man against the other, you always have to watch

:27:49.:27:55.

each other, watch for weakness. Monfils happy to see how that game

:27:56.:28:05.

though. -- see out that game. We will watch him closely. A reminder

:28:06.:28:10.

again that Monfils has reached the third round a few times before at

:28:11.:28:14.

Wimbledon but he's looking to improve a record here. He has been

:28:15.:28:20.

to the semifinal of the US Open, the semifinal of his home city Paris as

:28:21.:28:27.

well. Wimbledon has not been a happy hunting ground.

:28:28.:28:57.

Still good enough for that though, Monfils. The approach was a bit

:28:58.:29:17.

short. The door open. Beautifully struck back and down the line.

:29:18.:30:04.

Monfils flapping his arms around as Edmund finds the corner. A key

:30:05.:30:23.

moment in the match, if Keil can stick with it now.

:30:24.:31:06.

Break points seen off by that clubbing for and Edmund. -- that

:31:07.:31:23.

clubbing forehand of Edmund. That is his box. Leon Smith on the left.

:31:24.:31:40.

Again, Edmund faltering as he came in.

:31:41.:31:50.

His position is way too high. It's not his comfort zone at all.

:31:51.:32:01.

Monfils frustrated, because he had an opportunity there. Thought the

:32:02.:32:27.

point might have been over. You can feel the tension in Centre Court at

:32:28.:32:36.

the moment. Down a set, early part of the second set, really doesn't

:32:37.:32:40.

want to pull a break behind. -- doesn't want to fall.

:32:41.:32:56.

Lovely change-up from Monfils. Just the thing with the top players, they

:32:57.:33:09.

not only have game eight, but they have game be, depending on the

:33:10.:33:14.

situation of the opponent. That was a lovely touch.

:33:15.:33:37.

Can't take it. A shout of frustration from Gael Monfils.

:33:38.:33:52.

There should be. There was a real opportunity to go up a break. He

:33:53.:33:59.

could have won the first set already. -- having won the first

:34:00.:34:02.

set. I'm done by a clip of the net, and

:34:03.:34:20.

acknowledged by Gael Monfils. A fourth break point. Nobody could

:34:21.:34:26.

react to this. Gael Monfils has the break at the

:34:27.:35:24.

start of this second set. Set up, break up, a long road back now for

:35:25.:35:35.

Kyle Edmund. Sign up to the crucial moments, he couldn't find a first

:35:36.:35:36.

serve, Kyle Edmund. Gael Monfils in the box seat at the

:35:37.:36:00.

moment. He has been to the semifinals a couple of times at

:36:01.:36:02.

Grand Slams, but not here. Looking to equal his best. You'll get a bit

:36:03.:36:11.

of confidence, having lost in the final to Novak Djokovic. He has done

:36:12.:36:15.

it all pretty well so far in this match. But the level of Edmund just

:36:16.:36:21.

dipping in that last service game. Certainly did. We talk about

:36:22.:36:26.

different game styles and plans, and you wonder what Kyle's plan B can

:36:27.:36:33.

be. It's not as if he is going to start serving and volleying. Could

:36:34.:36:38.

he change the pace? Could he bring Monfils in? He should have observed

:36:39.:36:45.

that his opponent is struggling physically, in some shape or form,

:36:46.:36:47.

and he has to stay aggressive. I don't think Kyle as any other

:36:48.:36:52.

possibilities than to play his top game. But there is still a long way

:36:53.:36:58.

to go, three out of five. Not to be downhearted. Keep doing what he does

:36:59.:37:06.

best. Keep plugging with the forehand and staying aggressive.

:37:07.:37:13.

It's a physical as well as a mental battle.

:37:14.:38:19.

A lovely little casual drop from Monfils. Edmund responded pretty

:38:20.:38:28.

well, but Monfils is flying at the moment. He holds to love. Some

:38:29.:38:35.

pretty flamboyant shots from Dustin Brown yesterday. That was pretty

:38:36.:38:40.

useful as well. You could see both players trying

:38:41.:39:16.

different things again. Again, the intensity and power hitting from the

:39:17.:39:19.

baseline isn't there at the moment, because I am sure they are both

:39:20.:39:22.

feeling it. Monfils mixing things up.

:39:23.:40:17.

It looks like Monfils is playing very loose. Trying to waste as

:40:18.:40:27.

little energy as possible. It's all part of the game.

:40:28.:40:40.

You don't see that too much from Edmund. He plays on a pretty even

:40:41.:40:47.

keel. But displays of emotion, frustrated at the unforced errors. A

:40:48.:40:54.

set and a break, it will seem a lot hotter on the court for Edmund than

:40:55.:41:01.

Monfils. A long way back if he drops there.

:41:02.:41:33.

Kyle Edmund holds and maintains contact just in this second set.

:41:34.:41:46.

You can see how much hard work Kyle Edmund is having to put in as well,

:41:47.:41:51.

sapping the strength of both of these men. Outside, a bit of a

:41:52.:41:59.

breeze out there on the hill. Henman Hill. Edmund escarpment? It doesn't

:42:00.:42:10.

have to be alliteration. They are enjoying themselves out there, a

:42:11.:42:15.

picnic or two, watching Edmund competing, but just drifting a

:42:16.:42:17.

little bit away from Monfils at the moment. You mentioned maintaining an

:42:18.:42:31.

even keel, but I think sometimes you have to get the emotions out. You

:42:32.:42:37.

are down a break and a set, playing in front of 60,000 home fans, give

:42:38.:42:41.

them something so they can cheer you up. Use the home crowd, get them

:42:42.:42:50.

into it. Exactly, do something. They want you to win. The home advantage

:42:51.:42:56.

has certainly gone at the moment, because it's quite a quiet

:42:57.:43:00.

atmosphere inside Centre Court. Monfils has taken control. It's

:43:01.:43:05.

interesting, perhaps sometimes you have to do everything you can to use

:43:06.:43:10.

that home advantage. If you are not naturally that kind of person, it

:43:11.:43:15.

can be quite difficult, but just a shout here or there. I've seen him

:43:16.:43:22.

get emotional in the Davis Cup. Yeah. You really need something to

:43:23.:43:25.

spark a change in momentum in this match. All too comfortable for

:43:26.:43:28.

Monfils at the moment. A little fist pump or something. And

:43:29.:43:58.

that is sometimes more important than training on the forehand and

:43:59.:44:02.

backhand. That is part of the coach's job. Just to send out those

:44:03.:44:14.

signals, not only to the crowd at your opponent, that you are still in

:44:15.:44:16.

it. That is awkward for Monfils. He's

:44:17.:44:39.

OK. He's OK, but he has three break points down. Edmund did the right

:44:40.:44:45.

thing, just tucking in behind Monfils. The change of direction did

:44:46.:44:46.

for him. Didn't he take it well! Kyle Edmund

:44:47.:45:33.

breaks back in this second set, and now Centre Court comes to life.

:45:34.:45:45.

Will he feed off that? Not quite a Davis Cup crowd yet. It depends on

:45:46.:45:56.

the player, the relationship between the player and the audience. He's

:45:57.:46:01.

got to build on it. It is hot out here for the players and the fans,

:46:02.:46:03.

and if they are getting that engagement, sometimes it can almost

:46:04.:46:11.

be a bit passive. A bit of a shock to Monfils, the way that pain went

:46:12.:46:14.

away from him, because he will have felt in his comfort zone and in

:46:15.:46:19.

control. -- the way that game went away.

:46:20.:47:33.

Monfils struggling to get to grips with his serve in this game. His

:47:34.:47:42.

level has just dipped a bit. I think he has got a body blow. He lost his

:47:43.:47:48.

serve, momentum is switching. He is experienced and he knows what that

:47:49.:47:49.

means. A rapid game from Gael Monfils, but

:47:50.:48:13.

a hold to love, what Kyle Edmund wanted, and now he has his nose in

:48:14.:48:18.

front in this second set. STUDIO: Kyle right back in this

:48:19.:48:24.

match, and we will return to Centre Court in a moment, but we will

:48:25.:48:28.

update you with what is happening on a couple of other courts. On Court

:48:29.:48:33.

Number One, Novak Djokovic is two sets to one up and a break of serve

:48:34.:48:37.

up against Adam Pavlasek of the Czech Republic, and what a

:48:38.:48:40.

difference a few weeks makes, when he walked away from the French Open

:48:41.:48:45.

disappointed, but went down to Eastbourne, build some confidence

:48:46.:48:49.

and he now has real momentum. The three-time champion going well on

:48:50.:48:52.

Court Number One. That match is over on BBC Two. Over on Court Number

:48:53.:49:00.

Two, Agnieszka Radwanska fighting hard against Christina McHale. This

:49:01.:49:05.

is about the fifth deuce they have had, with Christina McHale serving

:49:06.:49:09.

to take the first set. They have met five times the poor and she has

:49:10.:49:13.

never won Chris set, so will this be the first time? That is featured on

:49:14.:49:20.

the red button. -- they have met five times before and she has never

:49:21.:49:24.

won a set. Everybody is enjoying the weather. We have had some wonderful

:49:25.:49:29.

weather in the first few days at Wimbledon, and hopefully more to

:49:30.:49:32.

come. That's what's happening elsewhere, so lets rejoin Centre

:49:33.:49:33.

Court. It's not just what you do on the

:49:34.:49:44.

court, in terms of the shots, but your body language and showing your

:49:45.:49:48.

opponent as well. Hey, I'm feeling good as well, spring out from your

:49:49.:49:54.

chair, whatever. Exactly, and Kyle has done well to switch the momentum

:49:55.:49:56.

briefly. He is a player that likes to walk

:49:57.:50:09.

around with his head down. You could say that Edmund has good

:50:10.:50:15.

concentration, but he almost needed that engagement with the crowd, to

:50:16.:50:16.

look them in the eye. He hung in there well, and Edmund,

:50:17.:50:49.

having never come back from 2-0 set down, you feel this is a must win

:50:50.:50:51.

set. Can you remember how many times you

:50:52.:51:04.

came back from 2-0 down? A couple of times. Can I guess, maybe eight or

:51:05.:51:09.

nine? Edmund must see that Monfils is

:51:10.:51:26.

wounded. A correction by the line judge. It

:51:27.:51:40.

is Monfils, and Edmund not querying it. Good to see.

:51:41.:52:03.

A reply from Monfils. He knows how important it is for him to keep

:52:04.:52:12.

momentum going. A strong service came from the Frenchman. He is a

:52:13.:52:18.

veteran and he knows this type of situations, they changed the outcome

:52:19.:52:23.

of the whole match. Really engaging with his box now. Something of a

:52:24.:52:31.

mess in the Edmund corner. A misfire from Edmund. Long once

:52:32.:53:44.

more. And Monfils now sensing blood. How many big forehands you want to

:53:45.:53:54.

hit? Three, four, six?! You are bound to make a mistake eventually.

:53:55.:54:08.

He can't find a first serve just now.

:54:09.:54:27.

Monfils just punting the ball back, slowing down the pace. Wanting

:54:28.:54:45.

Edmund to go for even more speed and pace.

:54:46.:55:12.

The forehand long again. He is putting so much pressure on his

:55:13.:55:19.

game, you cannot land that first serve just now. Two break points for

:55:20.:55:26.

Gael Monfils. And now the crowd tries to lift their man.

:55:27.:55:40.

That mistake gives it away again to Gael Monfils, who closes in on this

:55:41.:55:43.

second set. STUDIO: Monfils will be serving 42-0

:55:44.:55:58.

lead in a moment. We have seen the crowds, they are fanning themselves

:55:59.:56:03.

on Centre Court. It is so hot here. It is 28 degrees in the shade, and

:56:04.:56:06.

it's very humid as well. Out on court number three, the match

:56:07.:56:11.

between Quang Martin Del Potro and Ernests Gulbis, they have stopped

:56:12.:56:16.

playing for over 23 minutes, because two spectators have fainted in the

:56:17.:56:21.

crowd. There is no wind or breeze that gets into these roles shaped

:56:22.:56:28.

courts. One has been taken from the court, and another spectator is

:56:29.:56:30.

being treated courtside at the moment. The players are just looting

:56:31.:56:36.

and warming up. It's been 23 minutes of play since the last point. --

:56:37.:56:42.

just hitting and warming up. It looks as though maybe they will be

:56:43.:56:46.

ready to resume play. That's what's been happening on court number three

:56:47.:56:47.

on this very hot day at Wimbledon. Such frustration for Kyle Edmund,

:56:48.:56:58.

having broken back a couple of games ago. Now it ebbs away again. How

:56:59.:57:04.

does he get himself out of trouble here? He had made a good effort to

:57:05.:57:12.

get that break back. Serving at 4-4, it's important you do a good job

:57:13.:57:17.

limiting the unforced errors. With his best shot, his forehand, he made

:57:18.:57:23.

three mistakes in that game and really gifted Monfils the

:57:24.:57:30.

opportunity to serve 42-0 lead. -- to serve for a 2-0 lead. Given this

:57:31.:57:36.

kind of heat, that is a long way back.

:57:37.:57:51.

The Frenchman looks very focused now.

:57:52.:58:03.

He'll want to keep his focus if he wants to progress in the tournament.

:58:04.:58:10.

Doesn't want to be wasting unnecessary energy out here on a hot

:58:11.:58:12.

day. What a game to close it out! Gael

:58:13.:58:28.

Monfils motoring along. Two sets up and, if Kyle Edmund is going to have

:58:29.:58:32.

to do it, it will have to be coming from two sets down. A feeling in the

:58:33.:58:40.

centre could crowd now that they know the way this match is going.

:58:41.:58:45.

It's by no means a done deal, but it's amazing how quickly that set

:58:46.:58:49.

slipped away from Kyle Edmund. Ten minutes ago, he was on the verge of

:58:50.:58:54.

a comeback, he had broken back, and all of a sudden on 4-4, the energy

:58:55.:58:59.

went away. Three unforced errors on your best shot! That has nothing to

:59:00.:59:06.

do with the form but his attitude. There is something wrong about how

:59:07.:59:11.

he does this. Is first serve percentage was dropping all the time

:59:12.:59:12.

towards the end. The statistics for Gael Monfils are

:59:13.:59:24.

phenomenal. On that last game, he wasn't exactly just rolling them in.

:59:25.:59:30.

As you say, did Gael Monfils win that set or did Kyle Edmund lose it?

:59:31.:59:34.

You feel, at 4-4, the critical point, he really didn't deliver.

:59:35.:59:43.

There is a first for anything. I know we have spoken about never

:59:44.:59:50.

coming back from 2-0 sets down, but why don't you start today with

:59:51.:59:55.

changing the record? He just has to take it one game at a time and try

:59:56.:59:58.

and build himself back into the match. When Boris asked you about

:59:59.:00:04.

your comebacks from 2-0 down, so many of them, what were you

:00:05.:00:11.

thinking, I must do something different? It depends a bit on how

:00:12.:00:17.

you feel you've been playing and the matchup with your opponent. You have

:00:18.:00:21.

to take it one set, one game at a time. At 2-0 sets down, it seems a

:00:22.:00:27.

long way back. You have to have that belief. As you say, something that

:00:28.:00:34.

Edmund hasn't achieved yet, but there is no better place to start in

:00:35.:00:40.

on the Centre Court at Wimbledon. A few cries of support and

:00:41.:00:45.

encouragement for Kyle Edmund. He needs all the support he can get.

:00:46.:01:02.

And you have nothing to lose so you might as well change your strategy.

:01:03.:01:08.

Running around your backhand and only hitting forehands got him two

:01:09.:01:15.

sets to love down so he might as well mix it up. The worst thing that

:01:16.:01:17.

can happen is you lose. That's better. I mean it is evident

:01:18.:01:48.

to me that with such a big forehand, Edmund has to get more comfortable

:01:49.:01:53.

at the net, and he sets up so many opportunities when he can move

:01:54.:01:57.

forward and finish the point. It's the fourth time he has been to this

:01:58.:02:02.

net in the match. And that's not enough. It's not enough on any

:02:03.:02:07.

surface, let alone the grass court. Number four in that unwanted

:02:08.:02:19.

category for Kyle Edmund. He starts the set well. As Tim was

:02:20.:03:14.

saying, it's a long way back. You just have to focus on the next game

:03:15.:03:19.

and take small steps, and eventually see if you can find your way back on

:03:20.:03:27.

that long journey. And I bet that this gentleman, who won two Grand

:03:28.:03:32.

Slams, Forshaw came back many times from two sets to love because it's a

:03:33.:03:36.

different attitude, a different approach. You have to wind -- win

:03:37.:03:45.

when you're not playing well. You have to dig deep and find something

:03:46.:03:53.

within you. Monfils takes an awful lot of time on changeovers, it is

:03:54.:04:00.

within the rules. Just watching Monfils on the replay. I'm going to

:04:01.:04:04.

use the force, why not! Wide from Edmund. Enjoyed himself

:04:05.:04:34.

there, Gael Monfils. I thought for all the world he was going to go

:04:35.:04:37.

crosscourt here, Edmund. Edmund watches the hand of

:04:38.:05:01.

acknowledgement, knew that he was beaten by the lob. Oh! No one likes

:05:02.:05:18.

a show off! He's a great entertainer though, and the Centre Court loved

:05:19.:05:27.

it. How high was that jump! Damn! Michael Jordan like. Michael Jordan

:05:28.:05:35.

would have got it over the net. Still, don't stop doing that, Gael

:05:36.:05:41.

Monfils. We love you for it. One of the true characters in the men's

:05:42.:05:42.

game. The laughter stops now from Monfils.

:05:43.:06:04.

He's going to challenge this. Maybe a first double fault of the match,

:06:05.:06:12.

and it is. So the fun and frivolity stops as we move to 30-30.

:06:13.:06:22.

And that's the problem with it, that you pay the price for losing

:06:23.:06:33.

concentration. We have the break point here for a game that seemed to

:06:34.:06:36.

be over 30-0. This time he has the touch and he

:06:37.:07:05.

has the break. Monfils the great entertainer, but Edmund breakthrough

:07:06.:07:13.

at the start of this third set. And that very long road back is just a

:07:14.:07:21.

little bit shorter now. What a game because it has so much, and Monfils

:07:22.:07:26.

was cruising and smiling and entertaining the crowd and it

:07:27.:07:31.

suddenly went away from him. It certainly did and I would just like

:07:32.:07:35.

to see a little bit more of a reaction from Edmund. He's got the

:07:36.:07:39.

break early in the third and his almost apologetic with the last

:07:40.:07:43.

volley. Edmund gave Monfils a couple of

:07:44.:08:00.

donations at 4-40 in the second set and you feel that Monfils returned

:08:01.:08:05.

the favour in that last service game, 30-0 up.

:08:06.:08:21.

I'm not totally crazy with the server motion of Kyle Edmund. He's

:08:22.:08:28.

tall, he has got long arms and I don't feel he's really reaching out

:08:29.:08:33.

to the ball as some of the other great servers do. It's not the most

:08:34.:08:34.

natural motion. 40 degrees out there in the sun, we

:08:35.:08:56.

are told. And very few players go through an

:08:57.:09:40.

entire match without their levels to ping but Monfils has certainly got

:09:41.:09:51.

away with it for a moment. -- without their levels dipping.

:09:52.:10:06.

It's good, so Monfils gets a long look at the line but Edmund backs up

:10:07.:10:12.

that break. Done well to hold onto his serve

:10:13.:10:31.

after getting the break opportunity from Monfils, and again it is small

:10:32.:10:37.

steps, one step at a time to try to work his way through this third set

:10:38.:10:42.

and get into a fourth set. Then perhaps the pressure will be a

:10:43.:10:47.

little more on Monfils. Always a fascinating player to watch, this

:10:48.:10:52.

was a couple of games ago. He just decided to have a little guests at

:10:53.:10:59.

the way the ball was going. This was the smash which was great to watch.

:11:00.:11:03.

Basketball is actually his favourite sport, but he was all smiles after

:11:04.:11:09.

it. Have you ever seen this guy dance? He looks like a professional

:11:10.:11:14.

dancer. I saw him at a tournament two weeks ago, everyone was circling

:11:15.:11:19.

around and he put a move on, I tell you. In so many things he's talented

:11:20.:11:29.

as well as tennis. They had a dance off at Roland Garros and there were

:11:30.:11:35.

some impressive moves. Were you involved in that? Unfortunately I

:11:36.:11:38.

couldn't be there. Cleared your diary for it. He did seem to drift

:11:39.:11:44.

off in the last couple of games, but as you said, Boris, don't ever

:11:45.:11:50.

change. We like to watch it. You never know what you will get from

:11:51.:11:57.

Gael Monfils. Yes, and some people criticise him and say he could have

:11:58.:12:02.

won more tournaments. His very successful tennis player, a wealthy

:12:03.:12:06.

man so you cannot knock him for doing that.

:12:07.:12:13.

Suddenly you get a second wind, you start to feel a bit fresher.

:12:14.:12:53.

And the crowd has certainly perked up as well. The level of play has

:12:54.:12:58.

picked up a little bit. Who said Kyle Edmund could not hit

:12:59.:13:24.

that shot aggressively? I didn't! After an hour and 46 minutes, it was

:13:25.:13:26.

worth the wait. Another good one. UMPIRE: The ball

:13:27.:13:48.

was called out... It was the line judge, the umpire and effectively

:13:49.:13:56.

Monfils who thought it was long but Edmund has decided to go to

:13:57.:13:57.

Hawk-Eye. UMPIRE: Mr Edmund has two challenges

:13:58.:14:19.

remaining. That one too easy for Kyle Edmund,

:14:20.:14:36.

Monfils just laid it back in court and he dearly loves a double break.

:14:37.:14:45.

He knows that one break to be good against Monfils is still fragile

:14:46.:14:46.

lead. 132 mph. Edmund appreciated that, at my edit

:14:47.:15:30.

at least and Monfils holds. -- admired it at least. How was your

:15:31.:15:37.

dancing, Boris? My dancing was exceptional. OK, we will get other

:15:38.:15:47.

people's verdict. And why was it exceptional? After a new hip should

:15:48.:15:59.

I continue? That explains it. Finally, what about your dancing,

:16:00.:16:08.

Cotter? You don't dance, never? That is nonsense for show-offs. Not for a

:16:09.:16:14.

small fee? Most other players would have really

:16:15.:16:40.

been and upset after missing such an easy point, and Monfils just turn

:16:41.:16:47.

around, goes back and keeps his cool in these hot conditions.

:16:48.:17:14.

I think they are a little bit too reserved, they need to stand up and

:17:15.:17:18.

cheer for their man, do something. A mistake from Edmund and suddenly

:17:19.:17:34.

the pressure right back on, two break points for Gael Monfils.

:17:35.:18:16.

It is wild, loose, gone again for Kyle Edmund and Gael Monfils breaks

:18:17.:18:30.

back. To and fro of this match goes on. Frustrating for Edmund, when you

:18:31.:18:35.

are taking chances and going for big forehands, you will miss from time

:18:36.:18:39.

to time but it seems like when one error comes the second and third

:18:40.:18:44.

follow in quick succession. And again to drop serve as he did as

:18:45.:18:50.

well at 4-4 in the second set, three unforced errors.

:18:51.:19:04.

A very accomplished coach, he's wondering whether Dan can come on

:19:05.:19:18.

court and give him some advice. A phone call has been put in. Send for

:19:19.:19:28.

Dan. As far as I know, coaching is not allowed yet. Not even if it's

:19:29.:19:38.

the head coach at all England? Everybody could ask for Dan, Dan the

:19:39.:19:48.

man. He wasn't too far away from the double break, Kyle Edmund, and we

:19:49.:19:52.

suspected he would need that insurance and lo and behold Gael

:19:53.:19:58.

Monfils breaks back. This isn't a permanent coaching setup, we don't

:19:59.:20:01.

know yet, but after leaving Ryan Jones recently he hasn't got that

:20:02.:20:08.

firmly established coaching setup to really roar for him or give him that

:20:09.:20:18.

encouragement. They might not feel comfortable in that role, if it's a

:20:19.:20:20.

transitional one. And a nice way for Edmund to start

:20:21.:20:32.

the Monfils service game. Neither player entirely comfortable

:20:33.:21:13.

on serve at the moment. Time for a change.

:21:14.:21:30.

A change of racket required, just puts halt on the flow of Edmund in

:21:31.:21:37.

this game. I'm not saying that's why he's done it, but... Well spotted!

:21:38.:21:52.

That racket is working a bit better. 134, the fastest of the match. It

:21:53.:22:14.

was a magic racket will stop but all within the rules. If you don't like

:22:15.:22:17.

your racket, you are allowed to change it.

:22:18.:22:31.

Interesting that Kyle Edmund took a moment to himself there, wins the

:22:32.:22:39.

point, break point once more for Kyle Edmund. Disappears in a flash

:22:40.:22:43.

of white. The Frenchman plays with a lot of

:22:44.:23:18.

conviction. Serving wise, and now he really controls now the tempo. More

:23:19.:23:22.

training in Miami required. When is the point. I don't think

:23:23.:23:45.

Monfils was expecting that serve to come back. The fastest of the match,

:23:46.:24:13.

Edmund is still challenging this game, and it's been again where

:24:14.:24:17.

Monfils has served well. Again, the return of the very

:24:18.:24:38.

highest quality. The beautiful exchange now. Both players are

:24:39.:24:40.

rising to the occasion. Good tennis. Not quite. A bit of running for no

:24:41.:25:05.

return. So the hold for Gael Monfils and the

:25:06.:25:50.

break point disappears for Edmund. A good game, one of the more

:25:51.:25:54.

entertaining ones in the match. The crowd enjoying it. It is 2-0 to Gael

:25:55.:26:01.

Monfils, but it's been a close match.

:26:02.:26:26.

Gael used the whole court, and again interacting with the crowd. They

:26:27.:26:41.

liked it. So in a straight sprint, Boris, who do you think is the

:26:42.:26:47.

fastest guy on the tour? Monfils has got to be in there, hasn't he?

:26:48.:26:57.

Certainly. Young from America, I watched him yesterday with Nadal

:26:58.:27:04.

playing, he's very quick as well. Brilliant, Monfils, every inch of

:27:05.:27:20.

the Centre Court used, and Edmund in trouble again.

:27:21.:28:06.

Did not move his legs at all. Did you say he was a good dancer?

:28:07.:28:16.

Because that was awful. There was no music playing!

:28:17.:28:43.

Challenge from Kyle Edmund, sort of half a challenge, half a frustrated

:28:44.:28:50.

wave of the arm. I think the coaching box of Gael Monfils know

:28:51.:28:55.

that this is good. I think perhaps Edmund does as well. Just points

:28:56.:29:07.

like that where Monfils shows he's got an extra gear. He celebrates

:29:08.:29:18.

before the ball lands, and Gael Monfils is closing in on a place in

:29:19.:29:27.

the third round. SUE BARKER: four games in a row for

:29:28.:29:35.

Gael Monfils. We will be back on centre in just a moment but we will

:29:36.:29:39.

tell you what's happening elsewhere, and this was just a short time ago

:29:40.:29:43.

over on Court Number One with Novak Djokovic cruising through in an hour

:29:44.:29:52.

and a half against Adam Pavlasek. If anyone was worried about the form of

:29:53.:29:56.

Novak Djokovic, have no fears any more. He looked right back to his

:29:57.:30:00.

best. He started building his confidence last week in Eastbourne

:30:01.:30:04.

and seemed to be hitting the ball very sweetly indeed. The three-time

:30:05.:30:12.

champion is into the next round here at Wimbledon. And Zverev has come

:30:13.:30:24.

through a real battle against his opponent. They both were struggling,

:30:25.:30:29.

with the trainer on court. No wonder that took a while, look at the

:30:30.:30:34.

length of the rallies they were having. So Zverev is through. And we

:30:35.:30:49.

can update you on progress of Radwanska, she lost the first set to

:30:50.:30:55.

the unseeded Christina McHale. She such a tough competitor, she will be

:30:56.:31:00.

fighting her way back into this. That match is currently over on BBC

:31:01.:31:06.

Two. And over on Court three, look at this, this man in real trouble.

:31:07.:31:14.

Martin Del porte trop two sets to love and a break of serve Gulbis.

:31:15.:31:24.

Down to -- a break of serve down to Gulbis.

:31:25.:31:31.

The winner of that match goes through to face Novak Djokovic. That

:31:32.:31:36.

is what is happening elsewhere. Back we go.

:31:37.:31:42.

A couple of aces to start this game for Gael Monfils. Edmund has broken

:31:43.:31:50.

the Frenchman a couple of times, but he'll have to do so again.

:31:51.:31:58.

There is no way over Monfils, with a shot of that height.

:31:59.:32:16.

Nothing at all for Edmund. Monfils romps through a service game.

:32:17.:32:32.

A cloud over Centre Court now, befitting. I think everybody senses

:32:33.:32:42.

the end is nigh, Doris. Whenever the top guys see the finish line, they

:32:43.:32:45.

increase the level, pushing a bit more.

:32:46.:33:02.

It is because he wanted to do that. A bit casual from Monfils, but

:33:03.:33:13.

beautifully put away. That's a thing of beauty in slow motion. A

:33:14.:33:18.

different player and he was in the first set. The first couple of

:33:19.:33:21.

games, both players were tentative, and all of a sudden, he shows his

:33:22.:33:23.

true colours. He doesn't want his stay on Centre

:33:24.:33:34.

Court to be over just yet. Monfils again sort of abandoning

:33:35.:34:31.

things towards the end. Edmund still fighting.

:34:32.:34:40.

He looks a broken man, Monfils, but it is an illusion.

:34:41.:35:28.

At the very least, Edmund can force Monfils to serve for this match.

:35:29.:35:37.

Absolutely. It's a whole other ball game.

:35:38.:35:48.

And so he does. He asked a further question of Gael Monfils. Kyle

:35:49.:35:54.

Edmund holds. So, if Monfils is to go through,

:35:55.:36:09.

what do we make of him for a contender for deeper in the

:36:10.:36:11.

tournament? He is always entertaining to watch. Perhaps

:36:12.:36:17.

doesn't quite have the level of consistency of the very best? That's

:36:18.:36:22.

right. He's worked hard in that area to be more consistent and, where you

:36:23.:36:26.

see him in the draw, to play Mannarino, that's a pretty good

:36:27.:36:32.

opportunity. He could potentially play Djokovic in the fourth round. I

:36:33.:36:37.

see him winning the next one, if he comes through this, but I'm not

:36:38.:36:41.

necessarily sure he's going to progress much further. He is 15 in

:36:42.:36:48.

the world, after all. His ranking says he's supposed to go to the

:36:49.:36:53.

fourth round. He will meet one of the highest seeds in that case,

:36:54.:36:58.

Novak. Their head-to-head record is a bit one-sided, if I may say so.

:36:59.:37:03.

But it's good to see the Frenchman playing like this, with a lot of

:37:04.:37:04.

passion and enthusiasm. Obviously, he still has to serve it

:37:05.:37:12.

out. Rod Laver watching on with the rest

:37:13.:37:32.

from the royal box, and perhaps about to watch the final game in

:37:33.:37:36.

this match, as Gael Monfils, the number 15 seed, serves for a place

:37:37.:37:38.

in the next round. UMPIRE: Mr Edmonds is challenging

:37:39.:37:53.

the call. The ball was called out. Couldn't criticise Edmund for

:37:54.:38:01.

holding back. Perhaps not much time for Kyle

:38:02.:38:30.

Edmund. And it's good. A great forehand

:38:31.:38:50.

brings up three match points. To the net it goes, and into the

:38:51.:39:17.

third round goes Gael Monfils. He has entertained again, and he has

:39:18.:39:21.

entered the dreams on Centre Court of Kyle Edmund. -- he has ended.

:39:22.:39:27.

It's Gael Monfils who moves through to round three with a straight sets

:39:28.:39:35.

win over the British number two. And most of the crowd will have wanted

:39:36.:39:41.

Kyle Edmund to win, but I am sure plenty will be delighted to see Gael

:39:42.:39:45.

Monfils go through, because he is one of the most popular characters,

:39:46.:39:49.

and that was a comfortable win in the end. In the context of the

:39:50.:39:53.

match, the first set was crucial. They both played some good tennis

:39:54.:39:56.

but, at the important moments, Monfils had the extra gear to go up

:39:57.:40:06.

to, and he was a deserving straight sets win over. You talk about

:40:07.:40:10.

learning processes and things to experience and take for Kyle Edmund,

:40:11.:40:15.

to move on, what can he take from this? It's an experience. He has won

:40:16.:40:23.

a round at Wimbledon. The first time he's been out on Centre Court. But I

:40:24.:40:28.

think he can improve. He is 50 in the world but I think, with the

:40:29.:40:32.

weapons he's got, he needs to be more comfortable moving forward and

:40:33.:40:38.

continue to improve his defensive skills. Probably, mentally, he needs

:40:39.:40:40.

more belief in himself. Wood he doesn't want to leave for now but,

:40:41.:40:47.

trainers in hand, he does that fostered a gift for somebody. I am

:40:48.:40:51.

sure he will return to this place, but Gael Monfils, loving presence to

:40:52.:40:58.

the crowd as well, and such a popular figure. Kyle Edmund

:40:59.:41:04.

desperately wanted to be in the third round, but not to be. He

:41:05.:41:09.

competed well and had his chances and breaks, but ultimately

:41:10.:41:17.

outclassed by the better man. So on goes Gael Monfils to play either

:41:18.:41:27.

Yuichi Sugita of Japan or Adrian Mannarino, another Frenchman.

:41:28.:41:30.

Possibly a lost 16 meeting with Novak Djokovic, which would be a

:41:31.:41:33.

different matter entirely. But he has done what was required for him

:41:34.:41:39.

today. The number 15 seed is safely through in straight sets. Things

:41:40.:41:43.

might have been different if Edmund had come through the tie-break in

:41:44.:41:45.

the first set, but Monfils goes through. Congratulations. What

:41:46.:41:52.

worked and hard-fought points. You must be delighted to have got that

:41:53.:41:56.

done in straight sets. I think I played a good match today. I went

:41:57.:42:02.

straight in and the first set was a tough battle and that was a big

:42:03.:42:10.

moment in the match. Kyle tried to come back, but did you always feel

:42:11.:42:14.

in control? I think I was pretty solid. He was playing at home, and

:42:15.:42:19.

never easy to give up, but I think he could up a great fight. I was a

:42:20.:42:24.

bit better than him. We were all a bit concerned about you in the first

:42:25.:42:29.

set and you looked concerned about your need. I still have... But I fix

:42:30.:42:38.

it with my team. I have heard you say in the past you haven't

:42:39.:42:42.

previously been a big fan of grass, but surely the way you have been

:42:43.:42:45.

playing in the run-up to this, you must be becoming more of a fan. Iron

:42:46.:42:50.

I am just playing a bit better and I just try to understand a bit better

:42:51.:42:54.

the game on grass. But I do what I can.

:42:55.:43:01.

STUDIO: Very honest, but we are huge fans of years. One of the most

:43:02.:43:05.

entertaining players. He plays shots that don't exist in the textbook, he

:43:06.:43:10.

doesn't like grass, he doesn't like the movement on grass, but he is

:43:11.:43:14.

certainly playing well at these championships and very well over the

:43:15.:43:16.

last nine months. Gael Monfils winning on Centre Court. Lets get

:43:17.:43:25.

some further reaction to it from Boris and Tim in the commentary box.

:43:26.:43:31.

Tim, not a fan of the grass. You couldn't believe it, could you! He

:43:32.:43:36.

looked so good out there. That's right, and his performances are

:43:37.:43:40.

getting better. He won four matches at Eastbourne and now he is through

:43:41.:43:43.

to the third round here. That has to help his feelings on grass. With the

:43:44.:43:49.

way that he plays, he has big weapons. He can be very explosive

:43:50.:43:54.

but he likes to defend a lot. He gets deep in the baseline. That

:43:55.:43:58.

isn't easy on grass. Fingers crossed, he can enjoy himself,

:43:59.:44:02.

because he did well today. It was hot out there. The first set was

:44:03.:44:06.

crucial, and he was able to raise his level and come out on top. He is

:44:07.:44:10.

wonderful to watch, but how difficult must it be in his mind

:44:11.:44:15.

when he has so many different shots he can use to make the right choice

:44:16.:44:18.

at the right time must remark it's always a struggle for everybody. He

:44:19.:44:25.

likes to play a full game. He not only plays to win the point but it

:44:26.:44:29.

have to be beautiful. He is famous for his smashes. Most of he picked

:44:30.:44:39.

the right choices. That was so casual, that little one. He makes it

:44:40.:44:43.

look so easy, and it isn't an easy game. That is part of his character.

:44:44.:44:49.

He likes to have fun on the court. Most of it, it goes well. Sometimes,

:44:50.:44:53.

it's borderline. In the third set, he lost his serve because he did a

:44:54.:45:01.

short smash, but overall he stuck to his game plan paid a pretty solid

:45:02.:45:06.

match. Bessbrook played a pretty solid match. What positive elements

:45:07.:45:13.

can Kyle take from the match? I just want more from him. He is a good

:45:14.:45:16.

player. I don't think he should be ranked 50. He should be knocking on

:45:17.:45:22.

the door of the top 30 and then top 20, but there are still areas he can

:45:23.:45:26.

add. He has such a big forehand, but if you can look to move forward and

:45:27.:45:30.

finish points occasionally at the net, it will give them an extra

:45:31.:45:33.

dimension and put a bit more about into his opponent's mind. Mentally,

:45:34.:45:40.

his character on the court, I think he needs to express himself a bit

:45:41.:45:45.

better, and I think that will help him with his overall belief, because

:45:46.:45:49.

he is a very good player. I'd like to see him back at the champions

:45:50.:45:54.

next year, definitely seeded and in the second week. I asked you what

:45:55.:45:59.

positives he could take, not what he could improve! That is positive. If

:46:00.:46:06.

I said he was out there and he had maximised his potential, that's as

:46:07.:46:09.

good as he's got, that would be a little bit more disappointing. But,

:46:10.:46:13.

for me, he is still scratching the surface. But I think he needs to

:46:14.:46:19.

sort out his coaching situation. He needs a coaching team around him. He

:46:20.:46:26.

has a couple of witnesses. He's only 22, a great guy, but he needs to

:46:27.:46:32.

improve the quality of his tennis. -- a couple of witnesses. What would

:46:33.:46:37.

a country doing, watching the horror of the first set tie-break? That is

:46:38.:46:43.

what changed the match. -- what would a coach be doing. Whoever gets

:46:44.:46:47.

ahead has the momentum, but with that first set, we thought whoever

:46:48.:46:52.

won it would be in the driver seat, that's what happened. Kyle came back

:46:53.:46:59.

in the third set, a break up, but he put everything into the first three

:47:00.:47:03.

or four games and, afterwards, Gael Monfils got into fifth and sixth

:47:04.:47:08.

gear. That is what great players do, they see the finish line and play a

:47:09.:47:14.

bit and play even better. To be fair, Kyle Edmund is normally put in

:47:15.:47:20.

that situation. That's right. I felt, when he made unforced errors,

:47:21.:47:24.

there was a second and a third that followed. When you are in a

:47:25.:47:26.

tie-break and every point is crucial, that's going to be

:47:27.:47:32.

expensive. But he played a poor tie-break and I don't think we can

:47:33.:47:37.

read into it any more. The conditions today, very hot out

:47:38.:47:41.

there. You want to get your nose in front and be up a set. When Monfils

:47:42.:47:45.

won the first set, you felt that was crucial. He is looming up towards

:47:46.:47:53.

Novak Djokovic. Doesn't have a great head-to-head against Novak, but he

:47:54.:47:57.

still got to get there. He is looking good on grass, even he's not

:47:58.:48:07.

a fan. He mentioned earlier that he doesn't like grass, but he certainly

:48:08.:48:10.

liked the last couple of games. He needs to be a bit more aggressive

:48:11.:48:15.

and take more chances. He is a beast of an athlete, a freak of nature. I

:48:16.:48:19.

want to see more of that. We all do! Thank you. Lets take a look at what

:48:20.:48:28.

is happening around the grounds here on another very busy day of the

:48:29.:48:32.

All-England championships. Agnieszka Radwanska, wow, she is in trouble.

:48:33.:48:38.

This could be a big upset, the number nine seed, to Christina

:48:39.:48:41.

McHale, who has never beaten her before. She is up in a second set

:48:42.:48:45.

tie-break, but she is fighting hard, Radwanska. She has won that point.

:48:46.:48:51.

Still a long way to go. That is on BBC Two. He was in real trouble when

:48:52.:48:59.

we last looked in, Juan Martin Del Potro, and he is still two sets to

:49:00.:49:05.

lob down and a break of serve down. You can see that match on the red

:49:06.:49:13.

button and the BBC sport website. It's a warm day, 28 degrees in the

:49:14.:49:18.

shade, around 40 degrees in the sun on some of the courts, and no wonder

:49:19.:49:21.

some spectators are suffering and many people still on the hill

:49:22.:49:27.

enjoying the tennis. No British victory on Centre Court today, but

:49:28.:49:30.

there were many magnificent victories yesterday, including that

:49:31.:49:33.

of Heather Watson, who was out on court. She put at the 18th seed,

:49:34.:49:45.

Sevastova, 6-0, 6-4. Heather Watson, who did so well against Serena

:49:46.:49:50.

Williams two years ago, is back in the third round yet again. She was

:49:51.:49:53.

really in the doldrums a couple of months ago, but she got new coaches

:49:54.:50:00.

and they have certainly restored some confidence. A big smile from

:50:01.:50:03.

Heather yesterday and after the match she spoke to Claire.

:50:04.:50:08.

Congratulations. Was that first set is close to perfect tennis as you

:50:09.:50:13.

have played at Wimbledon? I'm not sure. I felt my first match was

:50:14.:50:17.

similar. I got out of the blocks quickly in both and ran my bit. I

:50:18.:50:23.

thought today I was pretty flawless in the first set and I felt great.

:50:24.:50:28.

As the second set started, I expected her to raise the level,

:50:29.:50:31.

which she did, and to chuck something different at me, so I was

:50:32.:50:36.

pleased with how I stayed calm and kept my focus and didn't let that

:50:37.:50:40.

affect me. Did you feel a different player? Do you feel you have taken a

:50:41.:50:46.

step forward? I feel great within my game the last few weeks and months.

:50:47.:50:51.

I've been putting in the work. I've got a new coaching team on board.

:50:52.:50:55.

I'm in a good place and I'm happy and enjoying just working hard and

:50:56.:51:00.

being on the practice court. Sue Barker, Sam Smith, Joe Drury,

:51:01.:51:06.

everybody is saying you should be top 20. You have been top 40.

:51:07.:51:09.

Obviously there is a big climb to make back. Do you feel it is

:51:10.:51:16.

possible? Absolutely. I have beaten a lot of top 20 players in the last

:51:17.:51:20.

couple weeks. I am playing really well. I've been on for a long time

:51:21.:51:26.

now and I know how I'm playing. -- I've been on tour. I feel confident

:51:27.:51:30.

and more experienced at a moment and like I know how take advantage of

:51:31.:51:36.

playing well. Would it be fair to say you've never prepared for

:51:37.:51:41.

Wimbledon as thoroughly as this year? I remember coming to Wimbledon

:51:42.:51:44.

a couple of years ago and I was also in the semifinals of Eastbourne but,

:51:45.:51:48.

like I said, I feel more experienced this time and I've played some

:51:49.:51:53.

really tough opponents coming in, so I think that's prepared me as best

:51:54.:51:57.

as I could be. You are in the third round, and you've been there before.

:51:58.:52:01.

Victoria Azarenka awaits. What's your plan? That's a secret! But

:52:02.:52:08.

also, I haven't made a plan yet! But she's a great player, very tough

:52:09.:52:14.

opponent. With myself, I'm going to continue doing what I do with my

:52:15.:52:18.

game and remain aggressive, but I'll be doing my research on her and

:52:19.:52:22.

watching how she's been playing recently to come up with some good

:52:23.:52:27.

tactics. If you made the fourth round, is there anything that you

:52:28.:52:30.

said to your team that he would want them to do? Actually, one of my

:52:31.:52:38.

coaches told me he said, Heather, I've got a good feeling, this was a

:52:39.:52:42.

few days ago, if you make the fourth round, I'll shave my head. I said,

:52:43.:52:48.

my goodness, Morgan, your girlfriend is going to kill you! You can shave

:52:49.:52:52.

your legs. Finally the second week, he'll shave his legs. I love that!

:52:53.:52:58.

And no celebrations planned at all until you get to a point that is the

:52:59.:53:05.

furthest possible? Oh yeah, I'm in tournament mood right now. I haven't

:53:06.:53:09.

even thought of celebrating anything. In my mind, there's

:53:10.:53:14.

nothing to celebrate because I'm still in the tournament and I still

:53:15.:53:17.

have another match the play. My focus is on getting through that

:53:18.:53:21.

one. Good luck and well done. Every player need some motivation and to

:53:22.:53:27.

get your coach to save his legs, yes, that'll do it! She takes on

:53:28.:53:30.

Victoria Azarenka tomorrow. Back on Centre Court, we now await the

:53:31.:53:35.

favourite for the ladies title, after the defeat of Petra Kvitova

:53:36.:53:40.

yesterday, Karolina Pliskova. She has really been the player of 2017.

:53:41.:53:47.

She's coming out to face Magdalena Rybarikova Slovakia. Most of the

:53:48.:53:53.

crowd probably taken in a bit of shade, as it is so warm and humid at

:53:54.:53:57.

Wimbledon, but they will be coming back to see this young lady, who has

:53:58.:54:02.

been playing so well, especially on grass, winning at Eastbourne. She

:54:03.:54:06.

had a new coach at the end of last year, Petra Kvitova's former coach,

:54:07.:54:11.

and she has changed her serve and she has a better percentage as well.

:54:12.:54:12.

Lets hear from the new favourite. Tell me how pleased you were with

:54:13.:54:26.

your start to this year's Wimbledon tournament. I think I started pretty

:54:27.:54:30.

solid, especially with my second appearance here. Amazing to play but

:54:31.:54:33.

I was expecting a bit worse for me for the first round, but I held my

:54:34.:54:42.

nerves pretty well. And the number three seed uses her way into the

:54:43.:54:47.

second round. Has something turned in your game on grass? I've been

:54:48.:54:53.

working on a few things but nothing specific. I'm hoping my game can be

:54:54.:54:58.

good on the grass, especially with my serve and aggressive style, from

:54:59.:55:03.

the baseline. Is it as much of a surprise to you as the experts that

:55:04.:55:06.

you haven't been at the as you would have liked at Wimbledon in the past?

:55:07.:55:14.

A little bit, but hopefully I have a good chance this year. I'm feeling

:55:15.:55:20.

great and I believe I can go far. Looking at this year's tournament, a

:55:21.:55:24.

lot of people are talking about how open it is. What is your view? I

:55:25.:55:30.

think it's pretty open. There are few grass court specialists on this

:55:31.:55:35.

tournament, so some of the girls are tough to play on grass, so every

:55:36.:55:39.

tournament is different. I believe everybody has the chance to win. I'm

:55:40.:55:42.

going to do my best to win. Another thing people are talking about is

:55:43.:55:47.

the number one spot in the world. Is that in your thoughts or do you put

:55:48.:55:50.

that out of your mind during the tournament? I'm not trying to focus

:55:51.:55:57.

on these things because it would destroy my game. I just want to play

:55:58.:56:01.

well on the court and what happens after, we'll see. We are all still

:56:02.:56:06.

in the game, so it's going to be tough, but I believe if I go find

:56:07.:56:10.

play well, I have a chance to be world number one. -- if I go far and

:56:11.:56:17.

play well. Karolina Pliskova, she may well be a future world number

:56:18.:56:22.

one. Dudi Sela on court number 12 has defeated John Isner, who threw

:56:23.:56:28.

down 45 aces in the match. It wasn't enough. Dudi Sela 18 6-3 in the

:56:29.:56:39.

final set. -- Dudi Sela 18. Five foot nine, defeating the sixth at

:56:40.:56:44.

ten John Isner in three hours and 51 minutes. What a story. He is through

:56:45.:56:52.

to face Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria, the number 13 seed. What a match

:56:53.:56:55.

they had out there. Huge drama on court 12. That's just happened we

:56:56.:57:02.

are going straight to Centre Court. The match is just underway, so lets

:57:03.:57:03.

join Tracy Austin and Andrew Castle. A boiling hot Centre Court. 20 of

:57:04.:57:33.

humidity. The grass, I'm told by the man who looks after this court, he

:57:34.:57:37.

says it's very, very stressed at the moment. It won't die, but it could

:57:38.:57:45.

certainly will. It is playing fast and hard. -- it could certainly

:57:46.:57:56.

wilt. Not quite. Karolina Pliskova, number three in the world in the

:57:57.:58:00.

rankings, but this year, based on performances, this 25-year-old is

:58:01.:58:04.

number one in the world. Stunning player. Recently a winner in

:58:05.:58:09.

Eastbourne. And, when it comes to serving aces,

:58:10.:58:21.

there is nobody better. 95 aces on tour this year. That is a leading

:58:22.:58:25.

tour number, in the absence of Serena Williams. She is expecting

:58:26.:58:30.

her first child. It's a wonderful, natural service motion.

:58:31.:58:41.

This is a very difficult first round draw for the higher ranked player.

:58:42.:58:47.

Magdalena Rybarikova, on the comeback trail. That was after two

:58:48.:58:54.

separate sets of surgery that could have ended her career. She is also

:58:55.:58:59.

very effective on grass. A bit of a treat for the women's draw,

:59:00.:58:59.

second-round match. Pliskova versus Rybarikova, as

:59:00.:59:16.

everybody starts to come back into Centre Court at the first sit down

:59:17.:59:25.

after three games. Rybarikova from Slovakia, 87 in the world, but

:59:26.:59:31.

really that's a triumph. She was 31 in 2013 but, earlier this year, she

:59:32.:59:37.

was 453. Surgery kept her out of the game and she came out without any

:59:38.:59:40.

expectations of getting anywhere near tentacled or winning

:59:41.:59:43.

tournaments, and she has already won at Ilkley and Surbiton. -- anywhere

:59:44.:59:48.

near Centre Court. This is a dangerous match for Pliskova.

:59:49.:00:27.

For a couple of reasons. Rybarikova's game is suited to this

:00:28.:00:35.

surface. The backhand is flat as well. Slice on herself. She's very

:00:36.:00:42.

comfortable in the forecourt, throws in some drop shots, take the player

:00:43.:00:44.

out of their rhythm. Like that. Pliskova likes the ball

:00:45.:01:01.

right at the waist level time and time again. Rybarikova can get that

:01:02.:01:10.

slice down low, hit one hard, then hit short, mix it up beautifully.

:01:11.:01:21.

Her serve is missing by Miles at the moment. Evidence of nerves. Why not?

:01:22.:01:25.

You're on Centre Court. Nicely done. The other reason

:01:26.:01:39.

Rybarikova is dangerous is because she's playing with a lot of

:01:40.:01:44.

confidence, she won four of those ITFs. Three on grass. 14 and one

:01:45.:01:49.

already in this grass court season, that is a lot of grass court wins.

:01:50.:01:55.

She only lost two Jo Konta in the semifinal at Nottingham.

:01:56.:02:07.

These early stages are so difficult for those who haven't been on the

:02:08.:02:14.

bigger stages. I'm thinking that Pliskova might not have played on

:02:15.:02:18.

Centre Court, looking at all the people she's played, she's lost in

:02:19.:02:21.

the second round the past four years here at Wimbledon, she's never

:02:22.:02:26.

passed the second round. She was on Court One the other day. The first

:02:27.:02:33.

round, only the second time she was on Court One. You're right, she has

:02:34.:02:40.

much more experience deeper in slams. This Centre Court can be

:02:41.:02:43.

awfully daunting when you come onto it.

:02:44.:03:05.

Absolutely stunning, so few feel comfortable with the serve-volley on

:03:06.:03:19.

the women's side. Rybarikova will mix that in sparingly.

:03:20.:04:17.

Pliskova well aware of the variety that's going to come off the

:04:18.:04:24.

Rybarikova's racket, so she was quick to that drop shots.

:04:25.:05:31.

The world number one player this year, Karolina Pliskova, you very

:05:32.:05:40.

rarely see her rushed, the production of her shot is

:05:41.:05:43.

technically so sound. She never panics. We mentioned her Grand Slam

:05:44.:05:48.

record. Until recently, last year's US Open, had been pretty average,

:05:49.:05:52.

she never been beyond the third round of a Grand Slam event. She

:05:53.:05:57.

made the final of that. Venus and Serena along the way, she had match

:05:58.:06:03.

point against Venus in the fourth round.

:06:04.:06:19.

I was there that day in Arthur Ashe Stadium. Venus Williams was playing

:06:20.:06:27.

well, the crowd were completely fired up, such is the heroic status

:06:28.:06:33.

of the Williams sisters, of course, in United States. And Pliskova took

:06:34.:06:37.

it all, nobody had ever heard of her, not in New York City.

:06:38.:07:06.

Rybarikova having to work awfully hard to hold the first service game,

:07:07.:07:14.

serving three break points already. Pliskova has that great ability with

:07:15.:07:20.

a first strike. Huge first serve. So effortless on the return as well.

:07:21.:07:39.

Wouldn't it be nice to play tennis like this? I mean, there's just

:07:40.:07:46.

never any drama. She just moves around the court with such control,

:07:47.:07:55.

with poise. Reminds me of Martina Hingis, the way she nonchalantly

:07:56.:07:57.

goes around picking the perfect shot.

:07:58.:08:37.

Suite. So crafty. Phenomenal hands, well disguised. Heavy slice under

:08:38.:08:53.

it. At the last second. What great movement! Both players.

:08:54.:09:25.

The best match out here on Centre Court yesterday, despite the fact

:09:26.:09:28.

Andy Murray was there, and Rafa Nadal field everybody in the

:09:29.:09:31.

evening, the best match by far, in fact I think the best match, centre

:09:32.:09:36.

all week was the women's match between Jo Konta and Donna Vekic.

:09:37.:09:43.

It's possible this one will be the best match of today. Federer next.

:09:44.:09:59.

If Rybarikova can keep it close. She's going to be thoroughly

:10:00.:10:02.

exhausted, how long has this game been? Must be ten minutes. Six

:10:03.:10:08.

deuce, break point said. Ten minutes and over, just to begin with. She

:10:09.:10:21.

has to make Pliskova comfortable, that she is so easily in the

:10:22.:10:22.

Rybarikova service games. Evidence of the matches she has

:10:23.:10:39.

played. Reading the play. This is super stuff, isn't it? It'll please

:10:40.:10:47.

her coach. Tremendous movement and anticipation. It was the right knee

:10:48.:10:54.

that was surgically repaired last year along with the right wrist. For

:10:55.:11:01.

seven months at the end of 2016, first month of year as well.

:11:02.:11:13.

And it goes on! It's becoming absolutely vital, particularly for

:11:14.:11:25.

the server, this first game. Absolutely vital that Rybarikova

:11:26.:11:26.

wins it for her chances that's fine, anything up

:11:27.:12:16.

there is good for Rybarikova. His coach has seen a lot of matches. In

:12:17.:12:21.

Surbiton, just down the a three from here, just ten or 15 minutes away,

:12:22.:12:26.

if the traffic is OK at the right time of day. Ilkley must be four or

:12:27.:12:31.

five hours away, beautiful part of the world, Ilkley up in Yorkshire.

:12:32.:12:42.

Eastbourne as well. And that absolutely wonderful, that is an

:12:43.:12:46.

excellent first game to demonstrate what we could be in for here. Match

:12:47.:12:54.

two on Centre Court. Nottingham, of course, the other event people could

:12:55.:12:58.

have enjoyed. So much tennis leading up to this point. Centre Court for

:12:59.:13:03.

Rybarikova, nothing that she could possibly have imagined when she came

:13:04.:13:06.

back in February, so great to see her in this arena. There was really

:13:07.:13:09.

nothing to lose in this match. Just needs to keep her hand drive.

:13:10.:13:30.

There was an awful lot of work in that second game, had to serve 20

:13:31.:13:37.

points. That is a career, that is a training session.

:13:38.:13:57.

Rybarikova uses the whole court, I love watching someone always

:13:58.:14:04.

thinking out there, different spins, different different paces. --

:14:05.:14:12.

different lengths, different paces. A real contrast in styles. Pliskova

:14:13.:14:37.

likes to hit very linear, through the court, but what she is added to

:14:38.:14:41.

her game in the last 18 months, a nifty backhand slice that can get

:14:42.:14:44.

her out of a bit of trouble on the backhand on the run.

:14:45.:15:20.

Beautiful on the move. Great racket head speed from Rybarikova.

:15:21.:16:10.

Second match on Centre Court. It's 4pm. The height of the temperature

:16:11.:16:18.

expected today. No sign of the thunderstorms we had. This court has

:16:19.:16:23.

to be prepared for 13 days of play for the Championships. Grant canton

:16:24.:16:27.

is in charge of this. The surface temperature was taken between the

:16:28.:16:39.

first match, Edmund and Monfils. It was 43 and a half degrees Celsius,

:16:40.:16:42.

which is not really good progress. Without it taking a lot of water, it

:16:43.:16:47.

would die within two or three days. And will wilt through the course of

:16:48.:16:51.

today. The effect of it is to make this a very quick court, very high

:16:52.:16:56.

bouncing. But the graph itself tonight will get an absolute soaking

:16:57.:17:00.

and tomorrow morning the cover is going to come over, the roof will go

:17:01.:17:04.

over the top and they will have the air conditioning on and try to save

:17:05.:17:08.

the grass. So it'll play slightly different each day according to how

:17:09.:17:12.

Grant treats his baby. Believe me, this is his baby, it's just a

:17:13.:17:19.

beautiful, beautiful arena. Grass temperature 43.6 Celsius. The

:17:20.:17:27.

hottest summer since 1976. 76, Tracey, that's right! High bouncing

:17:28.:17:35.

grass, and the faster grass, the faster surface, will please Karolina

:17:36.:17:46.

Pliskova. Six foot one for thing. The crowd coming back in here onto

:17:47.:17:49.

Centre Court after the first match, taking refreshments. A big buzz in

:17:50.:17:54.

the arena as people head back in. Federer after this. It is a

:17:55.:17:58.

wonderful day here at the Championships. The crowd is being

:17:59.:18:09.

called to order. You wouldn't exactly call them rowdy.

:18:10.:19:41.

Perfect grass court shot. Heavy slice backhand approach. It stays so

:19:42.:19:52.

low. Then moving forward. So tough to hit an accurate passing shot of

:19:53.:19:54.

that. How much easier was that service

:19:55.:20:42.

game? Exactly what she needed after the first contest that took over ten

:20:43.:20:46.

minutes. Lovely hands, great control of the racket face. This is why I'm

:20:47.:20:51.

so glad this match was put on Centre Court, it is really a testing match

:20:52.:20:56.

for the woman who will serve now, Karolina Pliskova. 24 minutes played

:20:57.:21:00.

and 2-2, this is certainly not going to be a one-sided contest. Looking

:21:01.:21:03.

at these early stages. I think Rybarikova's forehand could

:21:04.:21:35.

be smoother, as she goes to hit it she yanks up and muscle is it a bit.

:21:36.:21:41.

-- muscles. Phil Brooke, the chairman. No rest

:21:42.:22:02.

for the chairman, straight back out to watch the tennis. Just a little

:22:03.:22:05.

bit of space between him and Jill, his wife. I'm sure their guests will

:22:06.:22:16.

be back out. To watch the tennis in a few minutes time. This is one of

:22:17.:22:21.

those tournaments where you don't miss whole swathes of matches, like

:22:22.:22:25.

at the French Open, and I guess some of the other ones, the Tribune box

:22:26.:22:29.

at the French was so empty for so much of the time this year.

:22:30.:22:42.

Not many miscues this day from Pliskova, that is where her game has

:22:43.:22:49.

shored up as well. The game is so much more contained. Consistent,

:22:50.:22:57.

more accurate. She says the biggest improvement is more experience her

:22:58.:22:58.

movement. Wonderful ball striking. It's what

:22:59.:23:23.

we've seen all year. In fact for a couple of years from Karolina

:23:24.:23:26.

Pliskova. There is a lot more to come from this second-round match.

:23:27.:23:31.

STUDIO: She's in front but we always thought this would be a difficult

:23:32.:23:35.

match for her because Rybarikova has certainly committed herself to the

:23:36.:23:39.

grass court having won at Surbiton and Ilkley. So she's very used to

:23:40.:23:43.

this surface by now. We'll be back on Centre Court in just a moment. A

:23:44.:23:48.

lot to update you on. And upset another seed is out, Juan Martin Del

:23:49.:23:54.

Potro has lost to Ernests Gulbis, who reinvented his game under the

:23:55.:23:59.

watchful eye of his new coach. Another seed is out and Gulbis faces

:24:00.:24:06.

Novak Djokovic in the next round, who won in straight sets as well.

:24:07.:24:17.

Over on Court Number One another seed is in trouble, the eighth seed.

:24:18.:24:22.

No great surprise the Dominic Thiem, because jewels seem on -- Gilles

:24:23.:24:32.

Simon has taken the first set 7-5. He's in some trouble, though he has

:24:33.:24:35.

a break point in the second set. That is the featured match on

:24:36.:24:40.

button. On Court Two Radwanska is a break of serve in front in this

:24:41.:24:44.

marathon battle against Christina McHale. That is on BBC Two. That is

:24:45.:24:50.

what's happening elsewhere. Back we go.

:24:51.:24:54.

COMMENTATOR: Day four of the championship and a second-round

:24:55.:24:58.

match on Centre Court, the second of the day. Roger Federer is coming up

:24:59.:25:06.

later on. We've had no thunderstorms and perhaps not expecting any at

:25:07.:25:12.

this point. It's very, very hot. No breaks here, too- three.

:25:13.:25:36.

Rybarikova seems to be looking for opportunities to move forward. Very

:25:37.:25:42.

comfortable in the forecourt. I'm so enjoying this tennis, this is

:25:43.:26:15.

leading up to what we thought it could be. -- this is living up. The

:26:16.:26:20.

art of manoeuvring a ball around a court, not just teeing off on it.

:26:21.:26:24.

The art of controlling your opponent by controlling the ball, it's all in

:26:25.:26:27.

this match. The whole court. Pliskova made a lot of doubles last

:26:28.:27:20.

year as well. At the finals in Singapore, I think that also added a

:27:21.:27:26.

secondary shot, she feels more comfortable with half volleys, with

:27:27.:27:28.

the overheads around the net. She actually missed one! Bridge

:27:29.:28:08.

defence. Did you actually see Rybarikova sliding on the forehand

:28:09.:28:15.

side? This was really great work. On the 15th shop, oddly enough,

:28:16.:28:19.

Pliskova missed one. She never appears to be stressed or hurried on

:28:20.:28:25.

that forehand. Such is her respect for the opponent, I think. She might

:28:26.:28:28.

not be going for the line too much. Very good, interesting match.

:28:29.:28:54.

Rybarikova, who's beaten Angelique Kerber in the past, who's beaten

:28:55.:29:04.

Marion Bartoli and Simona Halep... She's not used to sharing the court

:29:05.:29:13.

and beating the biggest names. After those two surgeries Tracy Austin was

:29:14.:29:17.

telling you about, this is her on the comeback trail.

:29:18.:29:38.

At Indian Wells she got all the way to the quarterfinals, that's when

:29:39.:29:44.

she knew she had to do something about the pain in her wrist, she was

:29:45.:29:47.

playing all year at tremendous pace every time she hit the two handed

:29:48.:29:51.

backhand. It was the left wrist. The best serve in the women's game

:29:52.:30:49.

in the absence of Serena Williams, who is off and expecting her first

:30:50.:30:53.

child. This delivery very rarely breaks down. The most aces for the

:30:54.:30:57.

third year in a row. It might be a little skewed, because

:30:58.:31:16.

Serena doesn't play as much. Last year, Serena only played eight

:31:17.:31:20.

tournaments. Let's just say that Pliskova's server is a real weapon,

:31:21.:31:26.

as well as pace, she can hit to the different positions, different

:31:27.:31:26.

spins. She can use the slider well. UMPIRE: New balls, please.

:31:27.:32:07.

Interesting that Pliskova has never been beyond round two at Wimbledon.

:32:08.:32:11.

In six appearances. She is one of eight Czech players in the draw, you

:32:12.:32:16.

would have expected her to have had more success than she has had but

:32:17.:32:19.

some people just come to it at a slightly different time. She is only

:32:20.:32:25.

25 years of age and perhaps in the women's game, just as in the men's's

:32:26.:32:29.

you don't have to be, as you work, 16 years old when you win your first

:32:30.:32:33.

major championship. Is that what you wear when you won the US Open? When

:32:34.:32:41.

you look back, visit crazy? My youngest child now 16 years old! It

:32:42.:32:46.

seems like a different time to deal with all of the pressures and

:32:47.:32:51.

expectations. But I think it was a benefit, because I was so young, I

:32:52.:32:57.

was naive, I didn't know what was on the line. Just playing the ball.

:32:58.:33:01.

Play the ball and execute the game plan. But then the light changes

:33:02.:33:06.

that came after it for a young woman of 16, tough to handle? The injuries

:33:07.:33:12.

came, I was able to win the US Open again at 18. You are supposed to go

:33:13.:33:16.

to college first and then win majors, not the other way around. It

:33:17.:33:22.

is amazing. Pliskova has certainly figured it out, in the last 18

:33:23.:33:25.

months, her career has completely turned around. Better fitness,

:33:26.:33:35.

better thinker on court. Mum and dad Federer in the Royal box, taking

:33:36.:33:38.

their place after a little break from the first match. Gael Monfils

:33:39.:33:47.

against Kyle Edmund. Roger is in action.

:33:48.:34:05.

No. The new tennis ball flying a little bit and in these sorts of

:34:06.:34:11.

conditions, hot and humid, the ball will fly even more, more difficult

:34:12.:34:18.

to control. I wouldn't be surprised if they tighten up their string

:34:19.:34:23.

tension in these hot conditions. Looking to make a few tweaks.

:34:24.:34:58.

Thank you very much. Wow. Dismisses this 86 mph second serve right in

:34:59.:35:12.

the wheelhouse. Such a clean ball striker, Pliskova. Beautiful pop.

:35:13.:35:44.

Rybarikova, just 49% of her first serves in. She needs to get those

:35:45.:35:52.

up. Pliskova getting a real read on the second serves.

:35:53.:36:02.

That is good fortune indeed. Apologises, but takes the break

:36:03.:36:11.

point. 40-30, an opportunity here. Plenty of opportunities already, of

:36:12.:36:16.

course, in that first game, the marathon that Rybarikova served. She

:36:17.:36:17.

saved four break points. Hit to a nice length, as well, and

:36:18.:36:49.

it is the first break of serve, it has taken a while. The third seed,

:36:50.:36:58.

the world number one player this year, takes the first set.

:36:59.:37:49.

She is a magnificent player. Mind you, so can Rybarikova be, but what

:37:50.:38:00.

a succession of hits. This rhythm, it is metronomic and it is right out

:38:01.:38:04.

of the middle. Of course, the number one Czech

:38:05.:38:18.

player for so long, Petra Kvitova, and she may be again, but Pliskova

:38:19.:38:20.

very much the story. Of the coach who was with Petra

:38:21.:39:00.

Kvitova and the journey that got there, now with Pliskova. Seems nice

:39:01.:39:08.

and chirpy at the moment. He said he wasn't interested in coaching again

:39:09.:39:14.

when he split with Petra and in December, when Pliskova split with

:39:15.:39:18.

her former coach, she called him immediately and he said it was too

:39:19.:39:20.

good an opportunity to pass up. That is away on the back and side,

:39:21.:39:40.

as we take a good look at Karolina Pliskova in this third-round match,

:39:41.:39:46.

the potential number one in this tournament. A lot of statistical

:39:47.:39:49.

hoops to jump through to get her to the top spot in the world rankings.

:39:50.:39:53.

In fact, I don't think she has to win the event of the world number

:39:54.:39:57.

one but we will deal with that as we get there in the second week. Here

:39:58.:40:01.

is a question for you, if she was to become world number one, women's

:40:02.:40:05.

tennis would certainly like to see her win a major championship the

:40:06.:40:14.

forehand. It would seem to be the right thing. When Caroline

:40:15.:40:15.

Wozniacki, through consistency and wonderful play, got to world number

:40:16.:40:18.

one, when Janka vitch do the same thing, the ranking system was

:40:19.:40:23.

accused of being faulty because they hadn't won major championships. Can

:40:24.:40:25.

you be world number one without being a major question -- without

:40:26.:40:36.

winning a major? They tried to skew it. If you win a major now, you get

:40:37.:40:41.

2,000 ranking points, so they tried to fix that but of course, we have

:40:42.:40:46.

Serena Williams out on maternity leave and so many extenuating

:40:47.:40:50.

circumstances and you have Angelique Kerber, who is number one in the

:40:51.:40:54.

world this year, winning a tournament and she is in off. That

:40:55.:41:00.

is why it is so interesting that we are talking about Karolina Pliskova

:41:01.:41:03.

as the possible tournament favourite and yet she has never been past the

:41:04.:41:08.

second round at Wimbledon. I can't remember Wimbledon, in the 40 years

:41:09.:41:12.

I have been coming, where the woman's game is this wide open. That

:41:13.:41:19.

is why we had the number 47 in the world win at the French Open, her

:41:20.:41:28.

first title ever on tour. Victoria Azarenka is back and playing rather

:41:29.:41:32.

well at the moment. That is a box office third-round match up with

:41:33.:41:34.

Heather Watson that we are looking forward to. Pliskova, I must say,

:41:35.:41:39.

has been the most consistent all year. She has won three titles,

:41:40.:41:46.

Svitolina has won four, but they haven't been quite as big. She got

:41:47.:41:50.

to the quarterfinals at the Australian, the semifinals at the

:41:51.:41:55.

French, on her worst surface, on clay. She wouldn't like that surface

:41:56.:42:04.

because her power get diffused. Magdalena Rybarikova has just hopped

:42:05.:42:10.

out and has hopped back in. Always great to see Rod Laver. Now, this

:42:11.:42:15.

man, as an amateur first, then as a professional, won all four Grand

:42:16.:42:22.

Slam championships, the Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon and the

:42:23.:42:26.

US in the same year. He did it twice, once as an amateur and once

:42:27.:42:29.

as a professional and if you have never seen him play, I urge you,

:42:30.:42:33.

whichever search engine you use, just stick in Rod Laver and it is

:42:34.:42:37.

wonderful to watch and there is some lovely footage on their of him

:42:38.:42:41.

playing byorn Borg. They were never at their height together but

:42:42.:42:49.

watching them play and another few legends, there is footage, but

:42:50.:42:52.

people will talk about him as one of the greatest or the greatest for

:42:53.:42:56.

very good reason, he was a magnificent ball striker and his

:42:57.:43:01.

backhand was beautiful. And he graced this court so many times, he

:43:02.:43:05.

was the man. He was the Rafa, the Roger, the Novak and and a of his

:43:06.:43:14.

day. And Ken Rosewall. They played 250 times. Rocket Rod Laver was able

:43:15.:43:18.

to minute lead the racket, even though it was a heavy wooden racket,

:43:19.:43:23.

he had some top-spin on his forehand, beautiful slice, great

:43:24.:43:27.

Court coverage. And while we are talking Australian players, 30 years

:43:28.:43:35.

ago, Pete Doolin beat Boris Becker, who was defending champion, on the

:43:36.:43:43.

old number one court, who got to know very well college tennis and as

:43:44.:43:49.

a professional and after the match, Boris said it wasn't a war, it was

:43:50.:43:54.

just a tennis match. Pete Doohan has had his health issues recently and

:43:55.:43:57.

he may be listening in in Australia, certainly his friends will be, but

:43:58.:44:02.

his health hasn't been great and in the tennis family, we send our love

:44:03.:44:06.

from Wimbledon down to Doohan in Australia.

:44:07.:44:15.

So, settling in for set number two of match number two on day four of

:44:16.:44:19.

Wimbledon. You see very little emotion from

:44:20.:44:56.

Pliskova, you never really know what is going on in her mind.

:44:57.:45:57.

Your first coach and the coach of many great champions, would

:45:58.:46:34.

certainly appreciate the timing of this woman Pliskova. She has the

:46:35.:46:46.

sort of swings of a pendulum. He would have approved. Absolutely,

:46:47.:46:53.

just very clean strokes. Repeatable. Great balance, good

:46:54.:47:09.

spacing. Spacing. It is critical, not too far away, not too closely.

:47:10.:47:22.

Good footwork needed to make that adjustment, so you can hit it

:47:23.:47:23.

cleanly. So Ribeiro Kerber, who brings this

:47:24.:47:54.

great form on grass into this event -- Rybarikova. She won in Surbiton,

:47:55.:48:02.

in Ilkley and she also bit Madison Brengle, who beat covet -- Petra

:48:03.:48:13.

Kvitova. She brings great form onto this against Pliskova, who is by two

:48:14.:48:21.

minutes the younger of twins, her sister is also a fine player inside

:48:22.:48:29.

the top 40. I believe they have tattoos, but they are not matching.

:48:30.:48:35.

She won't explain these once, she just had it done, I think. Just like

:48:36.:48:43.

them. Just liked them, simple. I think their father has one as well.

:48:44.:48:59.

I'd like to know who the coach was that taught them their serves. That

:49:00.:49:11.

is someone that should be a coach. I want to know who did the inking.

:49:12.:49:16.

Up-and-coming juniors, it is very simple.

:49:17.:49:44.

I think that is what you want in technique, simple, so they don't

:49:45.:49:51.

break down and if there are any extra hitches, that will cause a

:49:52.:49:58.

problem, particularly in pressure situations, a tendency to get

:49:59.:50:03.

nervous. A very repeatable swing path.

:50:04.:50:24.

First double fault, right after you were talking about how marvellous

:50:25.:50:29.

the action is. You are absolutely right, it is.

:50:30.:51:29.

A little extra time before that serve.

:51:30.:52:00.

Pliskova was asked about the possibility of becoming number one

:52:01.:52:07.

and she won't talk about it, which I think is so smart. There is a long

:52:08.:52:11.

way to go, just focusing on one match at a time. Said she doesn't

:52:12.:52:15.

want to talk about her tatties, doesn't want to talk about her world

:52:16.:52:21.

11 possibilities. -- her tattooeds. Just gets on with the job, drama

:52:22.:52:26.

free and plays big matches so well. It is so refreshing.

:52:27.:52:39.

There are so many women that have these great results and then they

:52:40.:52:43.

have a hard time repeating them, living up to those expectations.

:52:44.:52:52.

Pliskova hasn't changed and she got the US Open final and seems to be

:52:53.:52:54.

handling it well. Still struggling with her first

:52:55.:53:56.

service percentage, down to 42%. Look at this, though, wrong sport.

:53:57.:54:02.

Just an overall good athlete. Trying to think of the finest Slovakian

:54:03.:54:04.

footballer. Marek Hamsik of Napoli, I am told,

:54:05.:54:38.

is the finest footballer from Slovakia. I'm not sure about the

:54:39.:54:40.

source of that. Pliskova just looking so comfortable

:54:41.:55:01.

out here on Centre Court, playing on this surface. At Eastbourne last

:55:02.:55:11.

week as well. The elite level is still pretty new to her.

:55:12.:55:29.

Very well controlled. Rybarikova down the line because she was pushed

:55:30.:55:38.

on that backhand, she had to maintain racket head control and

:55:39.:55:42.

this is why you train physically, just to maintain your base and come

:55:43.:55:48.

through the ball. Pliskova ran around that second serve, really had

:55:49.:55:54.

to be a winner and unreturnable. The job I Rybarikova. -- good job by

:55:55.:55:59.

Rybarikova. It is fun to see a little variety.

:56:00.:56:33.

The last time I can remember serve-volley on a consistent basis,

:56:34.:56:36.

Mauresmo and Justine Henin in the final.

:56:37.:56:52.

Honestly, this wonderful way she just rolls the ball around as if it

:56:53.:56:58.

is easy to put pace on a ball which is kicking, because this second

:56:59.:57:02.

serve had some work on it. Bit short, but she had is well within

:57:03.:57:06.

the lines as well, so the whole effect is just to contain the

:57:07.:57:10.

opposition the whole time. Plays the right shot.

:57:11.:57:38.

SUE BARKER: We will be right back on Centre Court when play resumes but

:57:39.:58:00.

we will just show you what is happening elsewhere and this is

:58:01.:58:03.

Radwanska, who has come back, saving two match points against Christina

:58:04.:58:08.

McHale in the second set to come through and when it 6-3 in the final

:58:09.:58:14.

set. That is what she is famous for, such a tough competitor. Not the

:58:15.:58:19.

best of years but maybe this is the start of something special. The

:58:20.:58:21.

former finalist is through in three sets. On court at the moment,

:58:22.:58:29.

Dominic Thiem is just preparing himself to come out and the serve

:58:30.:58:35.

for the second set, having lost the first two Gilles Simon. That match

:58:36.:58:37.

is currently over on BBC Two. Over on Court three, Muguruza, the

:58:38.:58:49.

French Open champion last year, former finalist here, is 4-1 up in

:58:50.:58:55.

her match against Wickmayer of Belgium. That matches on the red

:58:56.:58:56.

button if you want to watch it. Wickmayer, coached by Kim Clijsters.

:58:57.:59:09.

And over on Court number 12, Tomas Berdych. Seven years ago it was when

:59:10.:59:13.

he was in the final. He is up against the American Ryan Harrison

:59:14.:59:18.

and it is going the Czech's way. That match is on the BBC sport

:59:19.:59:22.

website. We will keep you up-to-date with how they progress, but let's go

:59:23.:59:24.

back to Centre Court right now. ANDREW CASTLE: Are nice and full

:59:25.:59:33.

crowd here, everybody after the first match disappearing, perhaps

:59:34.:59:36.

having a little look around, taking a break and having a drink and back

:59:37.:59:39.

in and intently watching this one now.

:59:40.:00:02.

TRACY AUSTIN: That last shot has improved because she has played more

:00:03.:00:09.

doubles, Pliskova. She made it look so easy, swinging so freely with her

:00:10.:00:10.

arms. That is a line all. She had to face

:00:11.:01:39.

one of her own at the other end. She just faced it so well, she kept the

:01:40.:01:44.

face parallel and just lifted it back up, then turned the rally round

:01:45.:01:48.

and hit the baseline herself. And it stopped. That subtle, but it demands

:01:49.:01:53.

great hands. It goes without saying that the

:01:54.:02:23.

players are treated beautifully at this Championships. There is an area

:02:24.:02:27.

that only the players can go into. Not telling you any state secrets

:02:28.:02:31.

when I say they have a hairdresser in there, Novak Djokovic is often

:02:32.:02:36.

seen in there. They have a nail bar, may land hairdresser. I went and had

:02:37.:02:43.

a little clip myself. It's really amazing what is provided by this

:02:44.:02:48.

tournament now. It is. Several Wooding on the player 's desk does a

:02:49.:02:54.

fantastic job. There was a kid 's outing to an animal farm today.

:02:55.:02:56.

Players children. How about the food? The food is

:02:57.:03:17.

excellent, it really is! Gluten-free for those who need that. That

:03:18.:03:28.

completely died. Pliskova was there, then all of a sudden... It's amazing

:03:29.:03:36.

there's just been one break this entire match. That eighth game

:03:37.:03:39.

Pliskova was able to break through. Rybarikova, 87 in the world. She's

:03:40.:03:54.

held her own very well. Tremendous patience from Pliskova to

:03:55.:04:59.

build point. Second or third shot of the rally she could have come in and

:05:00.:05:03.

taken the ball out of the air. Think how ominous it would be if she

:05:04.:05:09.

started doing that more often. More trouble for Rybarikova. Break point

:05:10.:05:14.

down after a long rally. Still puffing.

:05:15.:05:31.

That is away. That is pressure telling. Pliskova has broken

:05:32.:05:47.

through. STUDIO: And we'll be right back on Centre Court in a moment,

:05:48.:05:51.

couple of match points to bring you. Another seed has gone, the 12th seed

:05:52.:05:59.

of France has lost 6-4 in the third and final set. The American had

:06:00.:06:04.

never beaten her opponent until today, what a tournament to do it

:06:05.:06:08.

in. There were concerns about the court in the opening few games, both

:06:09.:06:19.

players slipping. They were told by the umpire to carry on. I wouldn't

:06:20.:06:24.

dare say it is a bit risky out there. But Alison Rybarikova has

:06:25.:06:33.

gone through! Upset in yet another seed at this tournament. Mannarino

:06:34.:06:40.

ever France has come through in his match against Sugita of Japan.

:06:41.:06:47.

Controversy here because he was docked a point earlier for pushing

:06:48.:06:51.

past a ball boy at the change of ends. He argued his case but the

:06:52.:06:56.

umpire said, no. He was docked a point for that incident. Anyway,

:06:57.:07:00.

he's still gone through and will face Gael Monfils in the next round.

:07:01.:07:04.

That is the story is elsewhere. On this boiling hot Centre Court

:07:05.:07:18.

where the grass was measured by the Centre Court boss, the supervisor

:07:19.:07:24.

for this court, at 43 Celsius. We carry on a set and a break.

:07:25.:07:45.

The effect on the grass of these temperatures is to make it wilt.

:07:46.:07:53.

Left to its own devices and these temperatures over two or three days,

:07:54.:07:57.

the grass can die. Bearing in mind there are 13 days of play out of 14,

:07:58.:08:03.

Grant is going to soak this court tonight. Some American golf

:08:04.:08:11.

tournament when it gets too hot and the Greens get baked and the grass

:08:12.:08:14.

starts dying, they can water it, but they can't water a grass court

:08:15.:08:19.

because it's going to make it too slippery for the players in the next

:08:20.:08:20.

match. Little bit of her own medicine, the

:08:21.:09:15.

backhand slice stays low and just stops. Rybarikova needed one more

:09:16.:09:17.

step. She's played a lot of matches and

:09:18.:09:58.

been in a lot of close situations in Ilkley and in Surbiton. In

:09:59.:10:02.

Nottingham as well. All those matches where she is having to fight

:10:03.:10:07.

so hard here. Taking that opportunity to get to break point.

:10:08.:10:09.

First time today. And that's away. She has broken

:10:10.:10:36.

back. And that is courageous stuff. Back on serve. All this talk of

:10:37.:10:43.

stressed grass courts needing water, which they are going to get tonight

:10:44.:10:48.

and tomorrow morning, the Canoe Lake people at Southsea have treated me,

:10:49.:10:52.

any mention the Southsea Trophy played last week? We had women

:10:53.:10:55.

ranked in the top 70 playing in a refurbished public car park. OK,

:10:56.:11:08.

I've done that. Played down at Southsea many times, in fact, the

:11:09.:11:12.

Maureen Connolly cup, I don't know if you are involved in that, it was

:11:13.:11:15.

played last week under the under 18 's. I think it under 20 ones.

:11:16.:11:22.

America won. Emily Appleton beat the world number two and three. That was

:11:23.:11:31.

all down in Southsea. At least when I was involved, as a player and a

:11:32.:11:33.

coach one time as well. Rybarikova hanging around

:11:34.:11:57.

beautifully. She lost that first set, just one break. So close here.

:11:58.:12:02.

Such small margins on grass. Matches can turn very quickly.

:12:03.:12:37.

Beautifully done by Rybarikova. Gets up to this ball inside the baseline

:12:38.:12:43.

and hits it on the rise. Beautiful angle.

:12:44.:13:08.

She's done very well to win two games in a row, it could easily have

:13:09.:13:24.

gone away. When you've played as many matches as she has done, you

:13:25.:13:30.

are match tough and there's no substitute for it. Absolutely,

:13:31.:13:34.

believe in yourself, that you have problem solved in the past different

:13:35.:13:37.

situations, you've been down in matches, you didn't feel as

:13:38.:13:42.

comfortable as you would have liked on certain strokes. Just kept

:13:43.:13:49.

plugging away. And that is where there's so much more instinct in

:13:50.:13:53.

certain situations, because you have no doubt about what shots to play at

:13:54.:13:57.

certain times. If you bring a play forward, they come back from injury,

:13:58.:14:01.

just play matches. If you want to learn about your game to strength,

:14:02.:14:04.

your weakness, how to get the job done, you have to play. Practice.

:14:05.:14:09.

Practice is one thing, but playing is irreplaceable. There are players

:14:10.:14:15.

like even Heather Watson, they play some challengers, start to win

:14:16.:14:23.

groups of matches, four, five, six, it's so helpful for the confidence.

:14:24.:14:29.

There is only one winner every week. It's a lot of losers.

:14:30.:14:45.

No thunderstorms today, as predicted. Roger Federer coming up

:14:46.:14:50.

on this Centre Court, as we enjoyed match to come back on serve, second

:14:51.:14:58.

set. Ace number five to match her opponent. Karolina Pliskova. Number

:14:59.:15:05.

three in the world. Number one this year. No one has had a better year

:15:06.:15:10.

than her points wise. Just exquisite from Rybarikova. I

:15:11.:15:31.

recognised the situation she was in, couldn't hit the ball with a lot of

:15:32.:15:35.

pace, so dumps its low and Pliskova makes her move. Finishes with the

:15:36.:15:38.

volley. Grass court execution. Rybarikova very far back for this

:15:39.:16:04.

return. Gave herself more time. Really tough for Rybarikova to know

:16:05.:16:42.

which serve to defend, look at the direction of service and it's just

:16:43.:16:44.

about even. Up the T and out wide. Some respite from the bright

:16:45.:17:15.

sunshine, particularly for those in the East stand. As we stretch past

:17:16.:17:22.

five o'clock this afternoon. Louise saying it's too late because

:17:23.:17:43.

she feels like Rybarikova got the signal from the support camp as to

:17:44.:17:45.

whether to challenge or not. Really? I like that. I'm not sure umpires

:17:46.:18:12.

are firm enough with that. It should be an immediate challenge without

:18:13.:18:13.

help. The first meeting between these two

:18:14.:18:57.

surprisingly enough. The 28-year-old serve Rybarikova and the 25-year-old

:18:58.:19:03.

Karolina Pliskova. -- 28-year-old Serb.

:19:04.:19:28.

Also a little surprising because it's Rybarikova's tenth main draw

:19:29.:19:33.

appearance here at Wimbledon, she's only got past the first round once

:19:34.:19:38.

here, back in 2015. She made it to the third round. An odd lack of

:19:39.:19:42.

return for somebody who looks very well-suited to the grass.

:19:43.:20:13.

She's a wonderful player, Rybarikova, which is why we're very

:20:14.:20:32.

pleased to see her on this stage against one of the stars of the

:20:33.:20:36.

tournament. A great big towel full of ice, by the way, to keep the body

:20:37.:20:43.

temperature down. She comes into this match with very little to lose,

:20:44.:20:48.

really. Surgery on her left wrist and right knee. Sound advice coming

:20:49.:20:52.

from the screen. The busiest part of Wimbledon today are the bottle

:20:53.:20:58.

filling stations, the queues are snaking around as people fill up

:20:59.:21:03.

with free water. Free water! I object to paying for water anyway,

:21:04.:21:09.

frankly, Tracy. Your Californian so you probably don't. You're all

:21:10.:21:12.

healthy. I like the stuff that comes out of the tap, London water is

:21:13.:21:19.

brilliant. I think it's just fine. You don't bother, you will drink out

:21:20.:21:24.

of a tap? Absolutely, no problem with it whatsoever. With a drought

:21:25.:21:30.

in California we had big problems with our water situation. There will

:21:31.:21:33.

be no problem here tonight, this court will be getting an absolute

:21:34.:21:37.

soaking this evening and tomorrow morning. They'll put the cover back

:21:38.:21:40.

on the air conditioning back on, and give the grass a chance. It is a

:21:41.:21:45.

living tennis court, which is why they are so silly and so expensive

:21:46.:21:50.

to look after, but they're just so beautiful to play on.

:21:51.:22:04.

So accurate with the serve, within six inches off the lines. Again, if

:22:05.:22:14.

you have a tendency to hit up the T all the time, you probably can sit

:22:15.:22:18.

on that. Pliskova can hit all the corners.

:22:19.:22:33.

Rybarikova has done a lot of roadwork today.

:22:34.:23:17.

It's a slicing ball, it's deep, it's going away on the forehand side.

:23:18.:23:23.

Rybarikova was right to come in. Look at this, no great drama there.

:23:24.:23:28.

It's a simple stroke. That is beautiful. Balance all the way

:23:29.:23:32.

through. If you drew a picture, or a line where the head was, it would

:23:33.:23:34.

stay the same. The head level would not drop, she

:23:35.:23:50.

doesn't dip into her ground strokes, she doesn't pull out of ground

:23:51.:23:51.

strokes. How about the way she keeps her head

:23:52.:24:24.

up on her serve? Really extends up. Never worked with her as a young

:24:25.:24:29.

junior. -- whoever worked with her as a young junior should be

:24:30.:24:33.

applauded, it's so important to get technique right from the beginning.

:24:34.:24:35.

Rather than trying to fix things. After an hour and a half just under

:24:36.:26:43.

an Centre Court, the least Rybarikova is going to get out of

:26:44.:26:46.

this is a tie-break, which is no more than she deserves because she

:26:47.:26:52.

was a set and a break down and bravely broke back. I'm desperately

:26:53.:26:56.

trying to find out who Pliskova's first coach was and I cannot find

:26:57.:27:01.

out who it is, otherwise I would, they would tell you, I would

:27:02.:27:03.

certainly name them and give them credit. The point you made about

:27:04.:27:09.

learning technique young and playing matches, learning technique

:27:10.:27:11.

particularly underserved, such a technical aspect, it is vital. At

:27:12.:27:17.

what age is it too late? Probably 12 or 13. If you put the wrong

:27:18.:27:22.

technique in, it is really difficult to unwind. It is, there are so many

:27:23.:27:29.

moving parts to the serve. I think the simplicity of Pliskova's strokes

:27:30.:27:34.

is why they are so, as I said before, repeatable. They don't break

:27:35.:27:45.

down. Under pressure. On the golf tour, they will often say, like Jim

:27:46.:27:50.

Furyk, you would never choose to did somebody that but he's been

:27:51.:27:54.

repeating it for some 25 years and getting great success. It is that

:27:55.:27:59.

monotony to it, metronomic. If you can rely on it under pressure, that

:28:00.:28:01.

is everything. Trouble here. Second double fault of

:28:02.:28:21.

the match for Pliskova. When you get a second serve and the

:28:22.:29:02.

first isn't whizzing past you, to get into the point you have to get

:29:03.:29:06.

back in play, at this stage in particular.

:29:07.:29:19.

Because that is right around the corner. You have no play to get in

:29:20.:29:26.

the point. Ropes, double fault and a missed

:29:27.:29:54.

volley. Brings the score to 30-30. Rybarikova is a clean hit or smart

:29:55.:29:56.

play away from having set point. No, no, no. Feet stopped moving. It

:29:57.:30:22.

is nerves. And credit to Rybarikova, who was absolutely steaming across

:30:23.:30:25.

to that side of sending the message, if you don't hit it well, I am after

:30:26.:30:32.

you, I will get it. So Rybarikova, puts that back and out of shot, she

:30:33.:30:36.

is running quickly. There she is and I think it had an affect on the

:30:37.:30:38.

stroke. It is just as important to be able

:30:39.:30:58.

to produce a big serve when it is important.

:30:59.:31:09.

She is at it again with these football skills. She doesn't seem

:31:10.:31:13.

too stressed. That is away. These are unforced

:31:14.:31:27.

errors are flowing now. It is a second set point and all of this

:31:28.:31:31.

from a set and a break down. We thought there could be a tough match

:31:32.:31:37.

in prospect for this form player, Pliskova, and certainly it is

:31:38.:31:40.

turning out that way. Peter Hooper pleased with what he's seen.

:31:41.:31:48.

And that is a way as well and she has nicked the set, 7-5. Roger

:31:49.:31:57.

Federer and Dusan Lajovic who are playing next, they will have to

:31:58.:32:01.

wait. They will have been preparing themselves to play but we have a

:32:02.:32:05.

very interesting set ahead of us here. Didn't see that coming,

:32:06.:32:12.

particularly. It had the look of a three and four, a three under five,

:32:13.:32:15.

but Rybarikova has played a lot of matches and strangely enough, loss

:32:16.:32:19.

of composure from Pliskova. This is a test now. I agree with you. I

:32:20.:32:25.

thought it would be a tough to set win for Pliskova when she got up

:32:26.:32:29.

that break in the second set but you consider nerves starting to creep in

:32:30.:32:34.

in the 12th game, starting with a double fault, the second of the set.

:32:35.:32:45.

Getting quite a lot of success when she is coming into the net,

:32:46.:32:51.

particularly between academics behind that deep slice backhand

:32:52.:32:56.

which can uncover an opponent and she is comfortable at the net --

:32:57.:33:00.

particularly behind that deep slice backhand. Pliskova has certainly

:33:01.:33:08.

been moving her coast to coast, left to right. Rybarikova, I have got to

:33:09.:33:13.

say, 14 matches, she has won on grass in the last few weeks, helped

:33:14.:33:18.

her get through the finishing line in that second set. She never got

:33:19.:33:22.

negative when she got down that break. Stayed with the variety, the

:33:23.:33:26.

backhand slices, moving forward when she could, applying the pressure.

:33:27.:33:32.

Good to see the ball boys and ball girls wearing these caps with the

:33:33.:33:37.

side flaps today, just to keep some of the heat off. No direct sunlight

:33:38.:33:41.

now but each and every time this highly trained unit, they are much

:33:42.:33:45.

quicker than any of the senior players and some of the players in

:33:46.:33:49.

the main draw, so quick and fit, training for months, but they are

:33:50.:33:52.

all on show every day and being assessed all the time as to who gets

:33:53.:33:58.

to be on a big show court, later on in the big matches into the second

:33:59.:34:03.

week. All on show here, as everybody is on Centre Court. So off we go

:34:04.:34:11.

with the deciding set. Rybarikova serving first.

:34:12.:34:31.

Roger Federer will now have to wait another set. I suspected the women's

:34:32.:34:40.

locker room is on high alert right now, Pliskova been most people's

:34:41.:34:44.

favourite to take this title, playing the best coming in. A lot of

:34:45.:34:52.

interest in this third set. UMPIRE: Miss Pliskova is challenging

:34:53.:34:55.

the call on the right service line, the ball was called in. SLOW

:34:56.:35:06.

CLAPPING Yes, it was out.

:35:07.:35:28.

Well, you see the importance of that crosscourt forehand on the second

:35:29.:36:18.

point now, 0-30 down and perhaps odds-on to lose her served but she

:36:19.:36:22.

found her mark and now game points. Well, it's going very well for

:36:23.:36:54.

Rybarikova and you could have seen her play in all these places and

:36:55.:36:59.

thought, well, she is a nice player, good player, you could read about

:37:00.:37:02.

her when she was on her comeback but as she has said, you never would

:37:03.:37:07.

have thought, given this environment against the favourite for the

:37:08.:37:12.

tournament, she would be this good, but this is the depth in women's

:37:13.:37:17.

tennis, the depth in men's has always been talked about but as far

:37:18.:37:22.

as the women's goes now, I was at the qualifying in Roehampton and I

:37:23.:37:25.

couldn't believe the standard of the play and the conditioning of the

:37:26.:37:27.

athletes, the men and the women. As Rybarikova said, it has been a

:37:28.:37:56.

lot of ITFs to come back, lower-level tournaments. Joanna

:37:57.:37:58.

Konta is really the only top-level player she has played of late, lost

:37:59.:38:03.

to her in the semifinals at Nottingham. She knows it is going to

:38:04.:38:08.

be a step up but I think she has handled the situation beautifully

:38:09.:38:09.

today. This variety is starting to get into

:38:10.:38:33.

Pliskova's head. Rybarikova hits one hard, one heavy slice, one deep, one

:38:34.:38:41.

mid-court shot. Gets Pliskova out of rhythm.

:38:42.:39:18.

You don't see many of those shots in the first set and a half from

:39:19.:39:26.

Pliskova. G think that might be down to Rybarikova reading the Pliskova

:39:27.:39:32.

game and she is moving into areas where Pliskova feels comfortable

:39:33.:39:37.

hitting. Having an affect on her, maybe?

:39:38.:39:51.

If, every time you look up, your opponent is standing where you want

:39:52.:39:57.

to hit the ball is moving in that direction, it will put you off.

:39:58.:40:02.

Martina Hingis was always a master of that.

:40:03.:40:28.

That is not an easy shot. Made it look easy, but it is dipping very

:40:29.:40:33.

quickly. Back spin drop shot off a dropping

:40:34.:40:45.

ball beneath the height of the net, nicely done. You have to play those

:40:46.:40:47.

firmly otherwise they dribble into the turf.

:40:48.:41:03.

That is good. Classic grass court tennis. Nice approach on the

:41:04.:41:12.

baseline. Martina Navratilova written all over that one.

:41:13.:41:59.

Never settled, Pliskova, on that one. And I hope she is not injured

:42:00.:42:40.

or anything, because she was pulled out wide to the forehand twice and

:42:41.:42:44.

was never on balance and on the third one, when she went for the

:42:45.:42:51.

past, wildly inaccurate. -- for the pass.

:42:52.:43:15.

Rybarikova keeping Pliskova on the move. It is dangerous when she is

:43:16.:43:36.

not on balance, as everybody is, and Pliskova can find her target if she

:43:37.:43:37.

has time to set up. Late call.

:43:38.:45:35.

UMPIRE: Miss Pliskova is challenging the call on the neo- right hand

:45:36.:45:42.

side. The ball was called out. SLOW CLAPPING

:45:43.:45:55.

It is in. That was a late call, it might have affected Rybarikova.

:45:56.:45:55.

Unfortunate for Pliskova. Break point opportunities have come

:45:56.:46:18.

and gone for the heavy favourite. We are on serve here in the decider.

:46:19.:46:23.

SUE BARKER: Are really tense battle on Centre Court, we will be back

:46:24.:46:27.

there very soon but we are going to move away because there has been

:46:28.:46:33.

some very upsetting scenes out on Court 17 involving Bethanie

:46:34.:46:36.

Mattek-Sands of the United States. Lost the second set tie-break and

:46:37.:46:41.

this was the fourth point, suffering horrible fall and immediately

:46:42.:46:47.

clutching her knee and shouting "Help me". Her team do come on, as

:46:48.:46:52.

does assist a. The medical team were brought onto the court she was given

:46:53.:46:58.

oxygen. She has made her way back to the clubhouse but it is obviously a

:46:59.:47:03.

serious knee injury she has sustained. She is top seed in the

:47:04.:47:06.

doubles with Lucie Safarova, going for the Grand Slam doubles but very

:47:07.:47:10.

distressing scenes out on court. We will bring you more on that later

:47:11.:47:15.

when we hear exactly what the injury is. Very, very sad for Bethanie

:47:16.:47:21.

Mattek-Sands. Anyway, back we go to Centre Court.

:47:22.:47:28.

ANDREW CASTLE: And here on Centre Court, no breaks of serve in this

:47:29.:47:34.

final set yet. It has turned into quite a formidable contest and when

:47:35.:47:37.

the schedule came out, it didn't look like it had the makings because

:47:38.:47:43.

Rybarikova was on her way back from surgery on her left wrist and write

:47:44.:47:47.

me a year ago and it took longer to men and recover than originally

:47:48.:47:52.

thought. -- to mend. She said you wouldn't believe it that she would

:47:53.:47:56.

get in the top 100 this year. People thought she had retired, which she

:47:57.:48:02.

was quite offended about. She went and supported the Slovakian Fed Cup

:48:03.:48:09.

team and people were coming up to her saying, nice career, sorry you

:48:10.:48:10.

have retired, but she hadn't. TRACY AUSTIN: She was offended, it

:48:11.:48:27.

is amazing how quickly they forget about you. Nowadays, 15 minutes of

:48:28.:48:37.

fame, you are lucky. 31 in the world, inside the top 450, quite

:48:38.:48:42.

comeback. If that is a phenomenal pick-up from

:48:43.:48:57.

Pliskova, what timing. -- that is a phenomenal pick-up. The heavy slice

:48:58.:49:01.

to content with, it stay solo and on this surface, it doesn't always

:49:02.:49:05.

bounced perfectly. -- it stays so low. You are right, beautiful shot.

:49:06.:49:34.

At times, Rybarikova likes pace coming to her two-handed backhand,

:49:35.:49:41.

her arms are very stiff so it is harder for her to create her own

:49:42.:49:42.

pace. Rybarikova had that left wrist

:49:43.:50:13.

repaired, she really relies on that left wrist an awful lot because her

:50:14.:50:17.

arms are both pretty stiff when she hits the two hander. She uses that

:50:18.:50:23.

left wrist to come round the ball, trying to create some pace.

:50:24.:50:38.

And here comes a very important moment. Lenses and cameras at the

:50:39.:50:52.

ready as Magdalena Rybarikova is showing this lovely touch, this

:50:53.:50:54.

dexterity she has, guiding the ball straight down the line. She has a

:50:55.:50:57.

break point here. And that is our way and we have got

:50:58.:51:19.

a bit of a shock on our hands here on Centre Court. Ranked 87th, on the

:51:20.:51:25.

comeback trail, only been to the third round once in ten appearances,

:51:26.:51:32.

Rybarikova, 3-1. All this and Roger Federer to come afterwards. Centre

:51:33.:51:35.

Court, as ever, the place to be. Hope you are enjoying this match,

:51:36.:51:41.

just under two hours played. Still boiling hot out there. Plenty of

:51:42.:51:44.

time left to see the master in action later on, the seven time

:51:45.:51:52.

Wimbledon champion. This is quite a shock and will be noticed around the

:51:53.:52:00.

grounds. Pliskova is somebody that was manymany people's favourite to

:52:01.:52:02.

win the tournament. And better footwork on that

:52:03.:52:22.

overhead. Stretching the back again, that other back is a little stiff.

:52:23.:52:28.

-- Upper back. Pliskova taking the first set, up a

:52:29.:53:18.

break 3-2 in the second. And then immediately lost two games in a row.

:53:19.:53:24.

I think that was the first time she lost her own serve.

:53:25.:54:04.

UMPIRE: Miss Rybarikova is challenging the call on the right

:54:05.:54:10.

baseline, the ball was called out. It is wonderful how both of these

:54:11.:54:13.

players are playing within themselves, still playing their own

:54:14.:54:18.

game. That one slightly overhit but the composure from both players has

:54:19.:54:25.

impressed. The technique, for the most part, has remained exactly the

:54:26.:54:32.

same. That is what training does. Break point, Pliskova.

:54:33.:54:58.

Well. Rybarikova has been so solid in fending off macro these break

:54:59.:55:11.

points. Pliskova has only converted from two of ten opportunities,

:55:12.:55:13.

Rybarikova three of four. And it is away this time and despite

:55:14.:56:12.

valiant attempts at backing of the break of serve, Rybarikova loses it.

:56:13.:56:15.

She has a 3-2 lead in this decider, though.

:56:16.:56:20.

SUE BARKER: Fighting back, Pliskova. We will be right back with this

:56:21.:56:23.

match on Centre but we can update you with what is happening over on

:56:24.:56:27.

Court Number One, where Dominic Thiem has taken a 2-1 lead, it is

:56:28.:56:34.

2-2 in the fourth set. That much is currently over on BBC Two. And over

:56:35.:56:43.

on Court Two, Milos Raonic, last year's runner-up is in trouble,

:56:44.:56:47.

losing the opening set and Michal is me. That can be followed on the red

:56:48.:56:54.

button and the BBC sport website -- lose me. Jamie Murray is serving at

:56:55.:56:58.

match point with his partner Bruno Soares. And going well on the grass,

:56:59.:57:08.

they have won two tournaments at Stuttgart and Queen's and winning

:57:09.:57:11.

their open here. Jamie Murray has also entered the Mixed Doubles with

:57:12.:57:17.

Martina Hingis, so I am sure we will see a fair bit of Jamie Murray here

:57:18.:57:20.

at Wimbledon. So we are heading back to Centre Court, just over 15

:57:21.:57:25.

minutes to go until we move over to BBC Two so in all likelihood, Roger

:57:26.:57:31.

Federer's match will be over on BBC Two, but we are staying here until

:57:32.:57:36.

6pm. ANDREW CASTLE: 5:42pm is the time

:57:37.:57:44.

and two hours exactly have been enjoyed in this best-of-3 sets

:57:45.:57:48.

second round match in the ladies' singles championship, mostly played

:57:49.:57:53.

under bright blue skies. About half an hour ago, some cloud cover came

:57:54.:57:56.

over but now sunshine once again and I don't think there is any doubt

:57:57.:58:01.

that we will finish this and see a full Federer match as well. Much to

:58:02.:58:02.

look forward to. In fact, last night, when Nadal was

:58:03.:58:17.

going quite late on Centre Court in his match, they said that to finish

:58:18.:58:22.

the match, they wouldn't close the roof, so... Roger Federer next.

:58:23.:58:32.

A high of number 31 in the world back in 2013 but earlier on this

:58:33.:58:52.

year, no harm -- number 453 was her ranking, Rybarikova. She has had to

:58:53.:58:56.

work her way back and now her day in the sunshine.

:58:57.:59:07.

TRACY AUSTIN: I am so impressed with her resilience, she just hasn't gone

:59:08.:59:13.

away, not intimidated at playing in Centre Court against the number

:59:14.:59:17.

three player in the world who has been the most consistent and

:59:18.:59:18.

successful player all year. That was tricky, the crowd

:59:19.:59:27.

appreciate that. That was noticeable, when she played

:59:28.:59:56.

Venus Williams in the fourth round at the last 16 in the US Open last

:59:57.:00:01.

year, with 20,000 people behind Venus in the Arthur Ashe stadium,

:00:02.:00:09.

she didn't panic at all. Went into match point with a huge crosscourt

:00:10.:00:12.

backhand. UMPIRE: Miss Pliskova is making a

:00:13.:01:10.

challenge on the right. The ball was called out.

:01:11.:01:18.

And that is wide. It is a third break in a row.

:01:19.:01:46.

This is a thrilling match for so many reasons. The comeback of

:01:47.:01:53.

Rybarikova, she is probably playing better now. Talk about a sense of

:01:54.:02:02.

perspective, you don't know what you've got until it's gone. Somebody

:02:03.:02:04.

else wrote that! Doesn't seem to be affected by the

:02:05.:02:44.

pressure of trying to close this out.

:02:45.:03:03.

How costly might that be? A little too casual.

:03:04.:03:15.

Just like putting an aid into boiling water, oops, broke it. 5-2

:03:16.:03:23.

lead. Fine length from Rybarikova and the

:03:24.:03:57.

response crosscourt sums up the Pliskova ground strokes. Two hours

:03:58.:04:04.

and seven minute in this heat and humidity. They are knocking the ball

:04:05.:04:11.

all around this wonderful arena. Moving each other from side to side,

:04:12.:04:13.

forward, back. She has got it! Shot of the day.

:04:14.:04:53.

Such a critical moment. 30-0. It went through her fingers. That is

:04:54.:05:00.

just superb, look at the way she comes around the outside of the

:05:01.:05:04.

ball. This had top speed and side spin also.

:05:05.:05:19.

Oh, my... What a return of serve. Bullet. 110 mile-per-hour serve.

:05:20.:05:37.

Game of the match right here. This is pivotal.

:05:38.:06:58.

Well, that is a hold of serve, to go 5-2, up, it really is. You can give

:06:59.:07:07.

them some fatigue because they spend a lot of emotional energy on the

:07:08.:07:12.

court as well as physical energy. They have been running for miles.

:07:13.:07:17.

Well, not miles, but these are all in short sprints and changes of

:07:18.:07:20.

direction. You never really know which way your opponent is going to

:07:21.:07:22.

hit the ball. Rybarikova has been defending a lot.

:07:23.:07:34.

Her defensive work has been quite superb and she almost blew that game

:07:35.:07:39.

with that little drop shot. She rebounded mentally, exquisitely. So

:07:40.:07:46.

impressed with her physical skills. She has always had them. She has

:07:47.:07:54.

been so resilient and calm, in big situations, big moments. Just the

:07:55.:08:01.

implications of this, the proportion of the draw, the winner will play

:08:02.:08:06.

number 35 in the world. I saw Martic qualify, it was superb.

:08:07.:08:23.

Tsurenko at was a semifinalist in the French Open recently. This is an

:08:24.:08:28.

opportunity. I get confused with the names! So

:08:29.:08:53.

many. So many strong players on tour at the moment, such an opportunity

:08:54.:09:01.

at Wimbledon this year. UMPIRE: Miss Pliskova has one challenge

:09:02.:09:06.

remaining. Third round of the French Open for Tsurenko, my mistake.

:09:07.:09:17.

People thought this would be a tough second round when the draw came out.

:09:18.:09:26.

Pliskova was the favourite going in for most people.

:09:27.:09:50.

LAUGHTER That is wonderful!

:09:51.:10:00.

Pliskova ready to serve. At least three opportunities to put that ball

:10:01.:10:17.

away. Not this time. Magdalena Rybarikova,

:10:18.:10:35.

just back a few months, came back in February. A ranking that got you

:10:36.:10:39.

into nothing but the lowest ranked tournaments. Worked her way back in

:10:40.:10:46.

and has won four tournaments including Ilkley and Surbiton.

:10:47.:11:09.

And what a response from Pliskova, from the disappointment of that 18

:11:10.:11:16.

shot rally that she should have won but lost.

:11:17.:12:32.

Rybarikova is about to undergo a severe test of her character and

:12:33.:12:44.

technique and game. If she serves for this, the biggest shock in the

:12:45.:12:46.

women's draw. Fair to say that Rybarikova would

:12:47.:13:17.

prefer not to serve for this. Break now.

:13:18.:13:51.

SUE BARKER: And it goes back to deuce. I'm sorry to say we are

:13:52.:13:57.

coming to the end of our transmission and this match

:13:58.:14:01.

continues on BBC Two. If you want to keep watching this drama unfold on

:14:02.:14:05.

Centre Court, switch over to BBC Two and coming up later, the great man

:14:06.:14:08.

himself, Roger Federer on Centre Court. It will all be over on BBC

:14:09.:14:11.

Two.
