Good morning. Are you larks or owls this morning? Some of the Yarnie

:00:39.:00:49.

army will have had a very late night and indeed may even be seeing in the

:00:50.:00:53.

dawn with us this morning. Because there is much to celebrate today

:00:54.:00:56.

after Lizzy Yarnold's daring but ice-cool triumph in the skeleton.

:00:57.:01:01.

And that's sure to inspire the other members of the British team who're

:01:02.:01:04.

in action on this eighth day of the Sochi Games. Claire, Vicki, Anna and

:01:05.:01:15.

Eve are rockin' and rolling now. The GB women have built up a head of

:01:16.:01:19.

steam going into a big day in which they play two matches. Meanwhile,

:01:20.:01:24.

the pace picks up considerably in alpine skiing with the second of the

:01:25.:01:29.

women's speed events, the Super G. Slovenia's Tina Maze and

:01:30.:01:31.

Switzerland's Lara Gut amongst the favourites. Dave Murdoch's men face

:01:32.:01:39.

defending champions Canada. The British rink have been building up

:01:40.:01:43.

to this all week and doing so rather impressively. And mix in some

:01:44.:01:49.

mayhem, madness and more GB medal chances at the short track arena,

:01:50.:01:52.

and you've got the makings of a pretty marvellous Saturday morning

:01:53.:02:05.

of Olympic sport. We are starting with the curling. They are on the

:02:06.:02:25.

up. They're now joint third in the table after five of the nine

:02:26.:02:28.

matches. But they've got two to play today, against the Swiss tonight

:02:29.:02:31.

and, right now, Korea. Jackie Lockhart has been keeping an eye on

:02:32.:02:36.

everything here in the Ice Cube. How significant a win was that against

:02:37.:02:49.

Japan? That's definitely gave them the boost of confidence they need to

:02:50.:02:53.

go into the rest of the Round Robin matches. The opposition skip was

:02:54.:03:04.

trying to put the pressure on Eve Muirhead but she stepped up. Two

:03:05.:03:10.

Olympic records. That has to help the confidence. Without question.

:03:11.:03:16.

That will boost their eagle to finish it off with hopefully an

:03:17.:03:19.

Olympic medal at the end of this week. Two matches today and the

:03:20.:03:30.

final two matches on Monday. What is that like? It is a tough programme.

:03:31.:03:36.

They are sitting in third place amongst a patch of -- a pack of

:03:37.:03:45.

tough people. Quite often there is downtime between Games and the girls

:03:46.:03:51.

have to stick to their routine. Will fully they will have a victory under

:03:52.:03:57.

their belt, they will refuel and do their usual routine. It is a long

:03:58.:04:05.

day. There is ten hours between matches. Yes, that seems a long time

:04:06.:04:15.

for us, but for the girls that is normal and they know what they have

:04:16.:04:21.

to do so the preparation has been looked at very finally for this

:04:22.:04:27.

competition so I am hoping they are on the up. It is significant for

:04:28.:04:32.

Dave Murdoch because they have a match against defending champions

:04:33.:04:37.

Canada. Quietly going about their business effectively. Yesterday's

:04:38.:04:43.

game was very difficult to watch and to commentate on. What looked like a

:04:44.:04:51.

massive defeat turned around. Dave was not putting the pressure on the

:04:52.:04:54.

opposition skip button the second half of the game he did and we won

:04:55.:05:03.

the game. We have a tough game this afternoon against Canada, the hot

:05:04.:05:06.

favourites, who have not started well, but they are slowly getting

:05:07.:05:20.

better. Jackie's personal best from here to the commentary box is

:05:21.:05:23.

approximately a minute and a half, but she, like the GB women, is

:05:24.:05:26.

improving every day. The clock starts now, and, in the meantime,

:05:27.:05:28.

I'll hand you over to Steve Cram. Good morning everybody. Hopefully

:05:29.:05:50.

Jackie will go past the coffee shop on the way down! It is a sparsely

:05:51.:06:05.

populated morning here, nor Russian interest. Two big Games, if they win

:06:06.:06:15.

them both they are in a very strong position.

:06:16.:06:33.

They want to try and build on win against China and the emphatic win

:06:34.:06:45.

against Japan. Korea is a tricky match. They have had a couple of

:06:46.:06:53.

good wins, but two wins and three losses. The last time they met in

:06:54.:07:00.

2012 it was Korea who came out on top, 7-2. A couple of good shots to

:07:01.:07:06.

begin with from Claire Hamilton. Korea with a hammer -- the hammer.

:07:07.:07:22.

Eve's draw was not the best. You got the feeling over the past couple of

:07:23.:07:27.

matches they have been more assured. Particularly strong

:07:28.:07:35.

yesterday. That match finished early with this steal or five. -- off

:07:36.:07:57.

five. Korea will be posting the next Winter Olympics in four years. They

:07:58.:08:05.

have targeted Carling as a sport they want to be particularly good

:08:06.:08:25.

at. -- curling. We should not forget how young this British team is. This

:08:26.:08:32.

British quartet have a big career ahead of them and an opportunity at

:08:33.:08:42.

these Olympic Games. If you are looking at the table, Canada are

:08:43.:08:46.

playing this morning against Japan and they can pretty much assure

:08:47.:08:52.

themselves of a place in the semi-finals with a win today. No

:08:53.:08:58.

team with six wins as ever not made it to the final four. The Canadian

:08:59.:09:20.

matches against Japan and the other match is Sweden against China. China

:09:21.:09:30.

sitting just above Britain in the table.

:09:31.:09:48.

Vicki being asked to put up the centre card. The skip for Korea is

:09:49.:10:05.

married to one of the Chinese players. The Chinese men have been

:10:06.:10:11.

surprising everybody with a fantastic competition. Top of the

:10:12.:10:16.

table with Great Britain with five wins. Not sure how much they have

:10:17.:10:31.

been seeing each other. Nice double from Lee. Jackie has joined me.

:10:32.:10:39.

Unfortunately she did not bring coffee. You never said! Hazel gave

:10:40.:10:49.

me a minute and a half to get down to the commentary box. Maybe

:10:50.:11:01.

tomorrow. Somebody has brought me a muffin, that will keep me going. It

:11:02.:11:10.

is going to be a long day. You were talking to his all about the fact

:11:11.:11:15.

that they have to come back this evening. I was chatting to even

:11:16.:11:22.

about the win over China and after that match after the interview she

:11:23.:11:27.

said they would love to be coming back tonight because they had the

:11:28.:11:31.

evening off and when you are playing well they want to be back on the

:11:32.:11:39.

ice, so if they get a good win today then they can continue the momentum

:11:40.:11:46.

later. Anna Sloan is normally full of

:11:47.:12:03.

smiles in the introduction beforehand. A little smile from an

:12:04.:12:10.

when she was introduced to the crowd. A small crowd but plenty of

:12:11.:12:20.

British support. A little bit of Korean support as well. Nice shot

:12:21.:12:30.

from Anna Sloan. There is a little group down to your right, about ten

:12:31.:12:40.

guys who were cordial death in their chants -- who were planning their

:12:41.:12:49.

chants. Since the game started they have been quiet. I am sure they will

:12:50.:13:02.

get going. It is early. Not as early as it is back home for those of you

:13:03.:13:10.

who have got up to watch this. The vice skip is 24. She has relate

:13:11.:13:19.

right to make the sort of commitment we have been talking about -- really

:13:20.:13:28.

tried. She has dropped out of university to focus on qualification

:13:29.:13:33.

and the Olympic Games. She will pick up her studies again after. I was

:13:34.:13:50.

saying, this team beat the Scottish team in the World Championships in

:13:51.:13:57.

2012, so not to be underestimated. Without question. We always knew

:13:58.:14:01.

these girls could be a surprise unit to come out and play against. Rhona

:14:02.:14:16.

said that at the beginning of the week. They have been practising in

:14:17.:14:33.

Aberdeen, my home town. Not a good start for Eve. The draw that they

:14:34.:14:46.

makes for last stone advantage, it was not Eve's best. Unfortunately we

:14:47.:15:08.

do not have the hammer. She will try to make it difficult for Eve to

:15:09.:15:11.

remove both. It has started pretty well for the

:15:12.:15:43.

Korean women. A nice shot from their skip.

:15:44.:15:55.

Yes, she has placed that Stone very well, just on the tee line. If you

:15:56.:16:04.

tried to hit the top yellow at the top of the house, it would give a

:16:05.:16:11.

simple draw. It looks like we are going to try a skinny double, she

:16:12.:16:17.

just wants to catch the edge of the top yellow, roll across, and take

:16:18.:16:27.

the other yellow. It is an accurate shot to be playing

:16:28.:16:36.

this early in the match. So, even, trying to take at both these Korean

:16:37.:16:40.

stones. To leave us with a chance for one.

:16:41.:16:47.

Unlucky... Will it go? That was unlucky, a really nice attempt. A

:16:48.:16:59.

nice, clear house to draw into for the Korean skip. It was a good

:17:00.:17:04.

effort, it was the first stone which was a problem.

:17:05.:17:10.

I think the match, if I remember rightly, against Japan yesterday,

:17:11.:17:19.

didn't Japan, Britain Starts of the two. So, it looks like it will be to

:17:20.:17:39.

hear for career -- Korea, two here for Korea.

:17:40.:17:48.

All of that excitement last night. It's funny how in the last couple of

:17:49.:18:05.

Games, Eve and the team have had an odd competition, I would say, these

:18:06.:18:10.

Olympic records, picking up a steal of five. Twice they have scored 12.

:18:11.:18:18.

An odd competition for them, really. That big shot of either against

:18:19.:18:24.

Canada, remember. Big swings one way or the other. Whereas the men have

:18:25.:18:29.

had tight matches, right at the end, last night was a good case in point.

:18:30.:18:35.

She has picked up some of these Olympic records along the way but

:18:36.:18:39.

that doesn't automatically tell you that everything is going your way.

:18:40.:18:45.

As you know, this is nine Games of a round robin match. Against ten

:18:46.:18:54.

teams. One shot is great, but there are many... One shot pulling off an

:18:55.:19:02.

end, but there are many ends, ten ends. Nine Games. This is a really

:19:03.:19:09.

long week for the girls. It will be comforting to have these statistics

:19:10.:19:15.

behind them. The lead for Korea gets underway,

:19:16.:19:22.

two shots after that first end. That shot from Eve Muirhead, the charts

:19:23.:19:32.

for Korea to take the two -- the chance. Claire Hamilton played

:19:33.:19:37.

tonight stones in that first end. Just about made it. Yes, that is a

:19:38.:20:06.

little bit higher than I would like it. As it was getting slow, it takes

:20:07.:20:14.

much more of a bigger pull, you end up losing some of the rings there.

:20:15.:20:36.

Her 23rd birthday in February, Min-ji Um. A couple of weeks ago.

:20:37.:20:57.

It is interesting that she is one of those who took up the sport in

:20:58.:21:09.

school. In Korea, we talked about the development of the sport, Korea

:21:10.:21:14.

particularly targeting cuddling with quite a lot of youngsters playing

:21:15.:21:15.

now. -- targeting curling. They expected it to comfort it up to

:21:16.:21:40.

that yellow, but it dug in, it died at the end.

:21:41.:21:52.

They really will have two plates close attention to the ice and the

:21:53.:22:00.

stones. We have seen that all week. The ice has been running fairly

:22:01.:22:05.

well. It is difficult to know if it will hold up for the whole week.

:22:06.:22:11.

A little bit of a panic that, the skip running to help. I think they

:22:12.:22:20.

were worried it was going to be very short. It is still pretty short.

:22:21.:22:30.

The girls have decided to play an in-turn, to try to come down here on

:22:31.:22:49.

the left-hand side, as we saw in your picture, onto the edge of the

:22:50.:22:51.

yellow. They are working hard to get to this

:22:52.:23:04.

front yellow. Pulling hard here. That has opened it up a little bit

:23:05.:23:14.

more for the girls. They had a couple of Games yesterday

:23:15.:23:49.

where, for the first time, the clock became an issue. Germany claimed

:23:50.:23:56.

victory, they played the last sodium as the clock reached zero -- at the

:23:57.:24:01.

last stone. They had to rush towards the end. They just managed to close

:24:02.:24:11.

that game out. The German men have had some close matches, including

:24:12.:24:16.

against Great Britain. They were delighted to get the win in six.

:24:17.:24:24.

But, unfortunately, poor Switzerland, who had come here with

:24:25.:24:29.

reasonably high hopes, the Swiss men, they find themselves joint

:24:30.:24:30.

bottom now. So, we are going to try a similar

:24:31.:24:59.

shot again here, from Vicki Adams. Managing with the line on the first

:25:00.:25:01.

time, it does finish big on the end. Yes. A shooter there. It has just

:25:02.:25:28.

rolled across. It has spread cover at the top of the house on the

:25:29.:25:36.

left-hand side as can see. -- as we can see. And it is a sitting shot as

:25:37.:25:41.

well. It is amazing how... I was chatting

:25:42.:26:03.

to the men, and it was in the seventh and where Denmark had won,

:26:04.:26:06.

and we weren't sure whether they had to or not, the two stones were so

:26:07.:26:15.

close together. There was a discussion, it was so close. Then

:26:16.:26:22.

the skip walked in and said, just one for us, Denmark. Chatting to

:26:23.:26:30.

them, they were saying they weren't sure at all. A bit of a surprise. I

:26:31.:26:41.

don't know whether that affected them. They were needed at that

:26:42.:26:52.

point. The team said afterwards. You wonder whether all these little

:26:53.:27:01.

edges definitely affected them. So, Korea couldn't afford to sweep

:27:02.:27:04.

Batstone early because it was going to catch one of their own yellows.

:27:05.:27:13.

-- that stone. We still live a shot at the back. We will try to put

:27:14.:27:15.

another on the other side. Outturn. Knockout here. They want to

:27:16.:27:58.

hit this stone and try to get an inside throw. It is starting to get

:27:59.:28:08.

busy at the front. Yes. She needs to make sure she has a route in. Not a

:28:09.:28:13.

bad shot in but doesn't quite get the roll in. That line dance there

:28:14.:28:24.

is still clear at the moment. -- line down there. She wants to get

:28:25.:28:33.

the two back. Anything else is a bonus.

:28:34.:28:46.

Anna, yesterday, a little frustrated with her round play. But Eve was

:28:47.:28:58.

playing so well. That is good. Again, it didn't quite roll in. Anna

:28:59.:29:03.

seems to have come out this morning, playing her shots nicely. That was

:29:04.:29:10.

well executed and well looked after by the team. I think, on this sheet

:29:11.:29:18.

de that we have been on, we have been on here quite a few times, you

:29:19.:29:23.

have to be careful. If you don't have the weight, it has a big pool

:29:24.:29:27.

at the end which becomes very dangerous. So, delivering that shot

:29:28.:29:34.

as accurately as you can. From the other end, you are probably

:29:35.:29:48.

only going to see half of this red stone. The same line again for

:29:49.:30:01.

Ji-sun Kim. It looks very tight. Yes. They are having to work this

:30:02.:30:11.

very hard. She took a much tighter line. And now Britain are lying

:30:12.:30:16.

three. Another good shot from the skip.

:30:17.:30:21.

We want to try to block this. There is a bit of traffic upfront working

:30:22.:30:45.

in the skip's flavourful is -- favour. Korea will still have the

:30:46.:30:55.

chance to utilise the yellow on the other side of the house which could

:30:56.:31:00.

come across the face of it. She only has to tap it a little. Even that

:31:01.:31:08.

would not be too easy a shot. The first stone of the previous end

:31:09.:31:29.

was not her best but the line here is looking good, it is just a

:31:30.:31:40.

question of weight. It is not bad. That is exactly where she wanted it

:31:41.:31:51.

to finish. Kim Ji-sun had a bit of bother in this second end.

:31:52.:32:04.

That our stones sitting out in front, thing hard bother -- causing

:32:05.:32:16.

her bother. Maybe trying to lift a double but what will happen is the

:32:17.:32:22.

stone she has thrown well out count some of the others sitting. She has

:32:23.:32:34.

to be careful. She is either looking at damage limitation, hopefully

:32:35.:32:44.

removing two of our stones or there was a difficult catch on that

:32:45.:32:52.

yellow. To tap it into the red, sorry, the white and maybe give up

:32:53.:33:04.

one. I think she is looking at hitting the red to the left. If she

:33:05.:33:11.

catches this wrong, she might get rid of the red, but you have a

:33:12.:33:22.

chance of at least three mac. We still have last stone. An important

:33:23.:33:30.

shot. If she can, trying to get the double

:33:31.:33:53.

take-out. She has done well. The British stone just going out. Damage

:33:54.:34:00.

limitation, she did pretty well. I thought the third was going to hang

:34:01.:34:09.

on, but it spun out. That would have given Eve the chance of four but as

:34:10.:34:22.

it is she has the chance of three. The girls have played this end

:34:23.:34:27.

well. She just has to draw enough onto the nose of the red that she

:34:28.:34:34.

laid with her first stone and that should give her three stones.

:34:35.:34:43.

A similar shot to what she played a few moments ago. Nicely done. That

:34:44.:34:57.

is a good start for Eve Muirhead after her first shot of the match

:34:58.:35:03.

not being the best, but since then it has been good. A good response

:35:04.:35:05.

after Korea took a two shot lead. Tied up on the far side, Canada and

:35:06.:35:32.

Japan. Canada took the first and Japan responded in the second. China

:35:33.:35:44.

against Sweden, I was musing over this this morning wondering if three

:35:45.:35:53.

teams pull away, if we get to the point where Canada are assured of

:35:54.:35:57.

going into the semifinal, if Sweden were to win, and we pick up a couple

:35:58.:36:05.

of wins, we have three pulling away from the pack. Sometimes it is nice

:36:06.:36:11.

to let the winning team keep winning.

:36:12.:36:20.

And leave the rest of the pack to fight it out. There is such a lot in

:36:21.:36:31.

the middle, three wins, two losses, what we have today is Sweden and

:36:32.:36:43.

China playing at the moment and China have picked up a two in the

:36:44.:36:51.

first end, so all to play for. This is a crucial game for us. We

:36:52.:36:56.

definitely want to win, keep them into going. -- the momentum. I do

:36:57.:37:06.

not think you want to lose too many more. They would have four wins and

:37:07.:37:17.

three losses, but if you want to be assured of getting into the top

:37:18.:37:23.

four, six wins, five might get you there ought you might end up in a

:37:24.:37:33.

tie-break on Tuesday. You start to look at other teams, you cannot

:37:34.:37:37.

affect how they lay, but you will start to look at the table, and the

:37:38.:37:42.

main thing is to have it in your own destiny, do not rely on other teams

:37:43.:37:47.

losing. The last matches against Russia, that will be tough -- the

:37:48.:37:59.

last match is against Russia. Often the teams at the bottom are the

:38:00.:38:03.

hardest to play because they have nothing to lose. We also have

:38:04.:38:14.

Switzerland tonight. That will be a tough match. They have played each

:38:15.:38:23.

other many times. That is big for Switzerland who won their first

:38:24.:38:30.

three mac and then lost three. They have been playing all five players

:38:31.:38:38.

and moving them around and it has not worked out for them at all. It

:38:39.:38:46.

looks as if they are a little uneasy. They have been chopping and

:38:47.:38:51.

changing positions and I am not sure it is working for them. Just

:38:52.:39:11.

catching the guard slightly. Claire Hamilton has started well this

:39:12.:39:12.

morning. Vicki Adams going second. Vicki is playing and out-turn draw.

:39:13.:39:37.

Using the stone that Korea stopped. Might be slipping a little bit too

:39:38.:39:55.

far behind the tee. A little unfortunate. Korea going to clear

:39:56.:40:08.

this out a little after the previous shot gave them a little bit of

:40:09.:40:10.

bother. Lee does well. Just moves across in

:40:11.:40:29.

front of that other one, two of them think they're no -- sitting there.

:40:30.:40:38.

They have left us with an opportunity to better Vicki's first

:40:39.:40:50.

drop. They will try for a clockwise rotation of the stone which should

:40:51.:40:56.

pull to the right depending on the swing, perhaps two or three feet. We

:40:57.:41:04.

want this to stop on the eight foot. Nice shot. Well played, Vicki

:41:05.:41:10.

Adams. There is a relaxed feeling about the

:41:11.:41:25.

British team this morning. Warming to this match. A good start. The

:41:26.:41:30.

second end was what they needed. Going back to the point about

:41:31.:42:14.

playing all five, the Black Cats have done the same -- Korea have

:42:15.:42:23.

done the same. The last couple of matches it has

:42:24.:42:47.

been Lee playing second. There was talk about the men before we came

:42:48.:42:54.

here, talk about how that was going to work, whether there would be

:42:55.:43:05.

rotation of Dave Murdoch and Soren Gran said in the press conference,

:43:06.:43:12.

he put everybody right. Teams who do operate that system, if it is not

:43:13.:43:17.

out of necessity, what is the thinking behind that? It must and

:43:18.:43:23.

settle the balance of the team, communication, camaraderie. For that

:43:24.:43:32.

to work, if you play a five-man British and Andy take a fifth man

:43:33.:43:37.

with you there is no point in that fifth man having no match practice

:43:38.:43:43.

to keep up their good play and you find a lot of the teams will rotate

:43:44.:43:50.

them in the front end saw the lead will constantly rotate back and

:43:51.:43:54.

forward. It becomes difficult if you bring your fifth man to replace vice

:43:55.:44:02.

or the skip because the dynamics of the team are difficult to manage.

:44:03.:44:07.

There is an advantage to playing with five but we generally play with

:44:08.:44:12.

four and we do not utilise the fifth man until we come to the

:44:13.:44:17.

competition. The preparation for the Olympics was a five-man team and it

:44:18.:44:23.

is difficult to leave that fifth player sitting out doing nothing for

:44:24.:44:27.

radio and not having practice on the ice -- for a year. We'll coach sits

:44:28.:44:39.

down and said, you are playing second, because otherwise you are

:44:40.:44:46.

putting pressure. If you tell them beforehand, it makes it a bit

:44:47.:44:51.

easier. Yes, you do not want to be messing with people's heads and

:44:52.:44:56.

somebody on the ice worrying that they might be replaced. I have seen

:44:57.:45:03.

it working that they will change every other game and then they will

:45:04.:45:10.

know when they are on and win they are off.

:45:11.:45:29.

Out of the four Korean players, she has looked the best in the early

:45:30.:45:34.

stages of this match. Eve, with the out-turn hit. She will

:45:35.:45:47.

be hoping to catch maybe half of this yellow and roll across into the

:45:48.:45:52.

centre, use the cover she has in the middle of the house. She has some

:45:53.:45:56.

protection. It is going to be interesting again

:45:57.:46:24.

in this match. To see if Britain have a nice early advantage. These

:46:25.:46:33.

two young skips, Eve Muirhead with an awful lot of experience already,

:46:34.:46:38.

playing well, and a little bit of an up and down tournament for Ji-sun

:46:39.:46:42.

Kim. She has a good chance to strike back

:46:43.:46:54.

for her team. Number two here, a good shot.

:46:55.:47:09.

Got those three stones out there. Not bad. Eve Muirhead will be able

:47:10.:47:21.

to see this. They would have liked a little bit of a role there. By the

:47:22.:47:26.

same token, didn't want to lose it either. I think Eve should see all

:47:27.:47:33.

of this. We just heard her say, she would

:47:34.:47:48.

like to Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela to the right-hand side, as we look to

:47:49.:47:49.

the picture -- like to roll. Hopefully making it a lot harder for

:47:50.:48:05.

Korea to move the stone and potentially thank the end.

:48:06.:48:25.

Applying some early pressure. It should be a shot that Ji-sun Kim

:48:26.:48:33.

should be able to make. But, so many skips, when they seem to have

:48:34.:48:36.

straightforward shots, make the errors. Great Britain, making sure

:48:37.:48:46.

that nothing is too easy. She should be able to take this out and blank

:48:47.:48:49.

this end, and move on to the fourth. It is starting to fill up in here.

:48:50.:49:05.

Still plenty of Russian flags even though Russia are not playing this

:49:06.:49:06.

morning. Ji-sun Kim, trying to get round, to

:49:07.:49:12.

pick up this British stone. Korea will want to check this out

:49:13.:49:27.

and not stay in the house themselves. There will be quite

:49:28.:49:35.

happy with the blank here. Roll over the end, taking the hammer into the

:49:36.:49:43.

fourth end. Well played by Britain. Some good shots. Anna Sloan and Eve

:49:44.:49:47.

Muirhead, all four of them played a really good end there. So, advantage

:49:48.:49:55.

still with Great Britain. Canada have moved out to a 4-2 lead in

:49:56.:50:04.

their match against Japan. And, China have had a steal in the

:50:05.:50:10.

second, sorry, third end, against Sweden. They now lead 3-0.

:50:11.:50:24.

Wang, getting her team off to a good start.

:50:25.:50:42.

I was just wondering, Jackie, because obviously the Winter

:50:43.:50:49.

Olympics has a different feel to the summer Olympics, in the sense there

:50:50.:50:54.

are the ice events in the coastal cluster, then the events in the

:50:55.:50:59.

mountains. A gold medal for Great Britain with Lizzy Yarnold, a

:51:00.:51:01.

brilliant performance yesterday in the skeleton. They wouldn't be

:51:02.:51:11.

mixing with the rest of the team. I presume, I know the guys came off

:51:12.:51:15.

the ice and were told about the gold medal performance. In the summer

:51:16.:51:21.

Olympics, there is a feel-good factor when people come back with

:51:22.:51:26.

their medals, it gives everyone a lift. I wonder whether the colours

:51:27.:51:31.

will be keeping an eye on this. -- the curlers.

:51:32.:51:39.

I am sore Gracnar I am sure that the whole of team GB will be keeping a

:51:40.:51:45.

night on the rest of the team. In Vancouver, it was great to see Amy

:51:46.:51:50.

Williams bring the medal in. We all got to see how heavy it was. It

:51:51.:51:57.

gives you a tingle in your tummy when you think, we have the chance

:51:58.:52:02.

of doing the same as they have done. You don't always get the chance to

:52:03.:52:07.

see everybody. You tend to have to keep doing the same things as you

:52:08.:52:11.

would do, especially when they are mid-competition. It is thrilling if

:52:12.:52:19.

you are on your way to the food tent, you pass a medallist and you

:52:20.:52:25.

see the joy in their face. I am sure it will have given the whole of Team

:52:26.:52:32.

GB a boost. Undoubtedly. None more so than our boys and girls. We hope

:52:33.:52:35.

they have medal chances here. Eve is just going to try to utilise

:52:36.:53:05.

that centre guard. But, a clear lead on for us. To get one tucked right

:53:06.:53:12.

in behind it. Hopefully, T-high. To make it very difficult for Korea to

:53:13.:53:17.

better it. You want to come round in behind it

:53:18.:53:28.

but also give it a little bit of space, you don't want to make it an

:53:29.:53:35.

easy promotion for Korea. I am not sure she could have placed it any

:53:36.:53:41.

better, that is a wonderful shot. If you are just joining us this morning

:53:42.:53:49.

for your morning fix of curling over breakfast Great Britain, as you can

:53:50.:53:54.

see, leading. Two matches for the women today could put them in a very

:53:55.:54:01.

strong position. With three wins so far. If they were to go to bed

:54:02.:54:06.

tonight with five wins, two losses, two more matches to come, nine

:54:07.:54:12.

matches in total in the round robin, that would be just what the

:54:13.:54:15.

doctor ordered. Two losses for Great Britain, Canada

:54:16.:54:27.

and Sweden. Sweden are down against China. Those two teams stand at the

:54:28.:54:33.

top at the moment. Before we arrived here, they were the three teams,

:54:34.:54:39.

perhaps with Switzerland, although they are having a difficult time at

:54:40.:54:44.

the minute. The three teams everyone was talking about, Great Britain,

:54:45.:54:49.

Sweden and Canada. At the start of this competition when we had two

:54:50.:54:54.

losses, a few people were worried by that and wondered how the

:54:55.:54:58.

performance would go. If you had asked the before we had come here,

:54:59.:55:05.

if they were going to lose two Games, it would be likely to be

:55:06.:55:10.

Canada and Sweden. They knew that and knew they had to panic. They had

:55:11.:55:16.

to make sure they would win against all the others.

:55:17.:55:29.

They have to treat every game as their first, with respect for the

:55:30.:55:38.

opposition you are playing against. So, that has cleared some at the

:55:39.:55:44.

front. But she has left a yellow stone sitting up there, which will

:55:45.:55:53.

give us cover. We will just try and double guard that red we have

:55:54.:56:00.

sitting in the four foot. Anna Sloan has made a good start

:56:01.:56:02.

this morning. Just wanting to try and put it right

:56:03.:56:17.

on the centre line. As Jackie was saying, to guard the red sitting in

:56:18.:56:20.

the house already. That is pretty good. Again, they have left good

:56:21.:56:30.

space between the yellow at the top of the house and the actual read in

:56:31.:56:34.

the house. It makes it a lot harder for Korea.

:56:35.:56:44.

That may just have turned a half too much, and has left a little bit of

:56:45.:56:56.

an edge that Korea can see. This is a heavy drop, hoping to come down

:56:57.:57:05.

and maybe tap the red in the house. She would worry if she only captures

:57:06.:57:09.

the edge because she has the yellow she has in the corner she can hit

:57:10.:57:15.

and rolled across. This is straight on to the nose -- she can hit and

:57:16.:57:25.

roll across. A diminutive stature but, goodness

:57:26.:57:33.

me, they can shout, to try to encourage each other to work hard in

:57:34.:57:42.

sweeping. I was going to say, which match was that, Russia versus USA,

:57:43.:57:48.

it was so loud in here. The guys were struggling to make each other

:57:49.:57:54.

heard. Not quite as noisy in the stand this morning, but noisy on the

:57:55.:57:55.

ice. Anna might have played another good

:57:56.:58:09.

shot here. Not quite. A little unfortunate there. I think Eve was

:58:10.:58:21.

trying to call that, to try and take a read, no, a red stone -- take a

:58:22.:58:30.

red. With that small error there, there

:58:31.:58:50.

is now the opportunity for Korea to hit two stones. She is sweeping hard

:58:51.:58:55.

because she wants a little roll behind. Just haven't got that, so we

:58:56.:59:02.

should still be able to see I think both stones.

:59:03.:59:16.

There is a line of guards that, if Eve Muirhead can take that back

:59:17.:59:27.

stone and rolled across. -- roll across.

:59:28.:59:38.

Even the Test accuracy at 71%, the first two stones of her three won't

:59:39.:59:50.

so good. But she has been playing well. Another good shot here.

:59:51.:00:03.

This really need to get the roll across if they can. A good shot from

:00:04.:00:11.

either your head. Just a little bit too much, will it go? Unfortunately,

:00:12.:00:18.

they do a lot of pulling at the end. They did think it was good most of

:00:19.:00:23.

the way down but with the lighter weights, you get a bigger braked --

:00:24.:00:27.

break. The decision for Korea is where to

:00:28.:00:56.

put the second shot. They do not want to leave any chance of a double

:00:57.:01:03.

against Eve Muirhead. Did you catch that? I could your watches said --

:01:04.:01:16.

here what she said, but I need a translator! They will need to come

:01:17.:01:27.

down on the right-hand side. I think probably tap big yellow or tap it

:01:28.:01:32.

back here. A tap anywhere as long as they leave

:01:33.:01:49.

enough space soul there is not the possibility of a double for Eve. She

:01:50.:02:00.

has most of the house to play with. She has played a couple of nice

:02:01.:02:08.

draws already. She has to get this right. It is coming round.

:02:09.:02:39.

They maybe slightly over swept that, because they did not want the second

:02:40.:03:02.

stone to come behind the T. It makes it a very difficult shot for a two.

:03:03.:03:08.

This shot has to be right. Otherwise we could give up the chance of a

:03:09.:03:15.

three. Eve has been playing some very good draws.

:03:16.:03:29.

Watching this, if Eve plays another good shot, they are going to try to

:03:30.:03:44.

hold the line. That is a nice shot because it has come in behind and

:03:45.:03:49.

put some pressure on Korea. She did not get the freeze she was looking

:03:50.:03:55.

for but it was well judged by the girls. It depends what she feels

:03:56.:04:09.

like, is she going to draw in? She should be able to tap that back. I

:04:10.:04:19.

wish we could see the lines better. It is hard to see. I want to get up

:04:20.:04:27.

from my commentary seat and head across to see the line from behind

:04:28.:04:37.

the sheet. It is a lot of ice she has taken which makes me think she

:04:38.:04:40.

is happy to play the draw. This might not be good enough. Once

:04:41.:05:03.

again, a good shot from Eve Muirhead asked a question and they were not

:05:04.:05:10.

able to come up with a reply, so it is a steal for rate Britain. --

:05:11.:05:24.

Great Britain. They have taken their opportunities. A good shot from Eve

:05:25.:05:33.

Muirhead. The Korean has been struggling. -- skip has been

:05:34.:05:51.

struggling. Canada could guarantee themselves pretty much a place in

:05:52.:05:58.

the top four if they when. It is for-4 against Japan who beat Great

:05:59.:06:03.

Britain yesterday. If you get into this sort of

:06:04.:06:21.

position, the men came back from a 5-1 deficit at the halfway point

:06:22.:06:26.

yesterday when Denmark pretty much fell apart because of good play from

:06:27.:06:33.

Great Britain. The women have shown that when they get their noses in

:06:34.:06:39.

front and they can start to dominate matches, they are very difficult to

:06:40.:06:48.

beat. This young Korean team making a future many errors at the moment,

:06:49.:06:51.

particularly Kim Ji-sun, the skip. Corner guard from Lee Hyun-jung.

:06:52.:07:17.

Trying to get something going again. Each time you struggle it carries

:07:18.:07:27.

on, Korea have the hammer, the last stone. If you're skip is not playing

:07:28.:07:34.

well it seems to permeate through the rest of the team. We know the

:07:35.:07:42.

skip is the one who gets the glory, but they have to carry the

:07:43.:07:47.

responsibility if the last shots start to struggle. If you cannot

:07:48.:07:54.

finish off the end, when the opportunity has been presented, you

:07:55.:07:58.

find yourself in the position Korea are in.

:07:59.:08:35.

Fighting this. It should be OK. To get round the front guard. Tuesday

:08:36.:08:49.

is the day all the matches will be complete in the Round Robin, the

:08:50.:08:58.

Round Robin will be complete on Monday and Tuesday is for

:08:59.:08:59.

tie-breaks. If you have one or two, you still

:09:00.:09:14.

have the chance of picking up three wins to finish to finish final four

:09:15.:09:25.

and have a chance of qualifying. All of these matches, even if you get

:09:26.:09:41.

towards the end you can be in a qualifying position. This is a must

:09:42.:09:55.

win for Korea. They will need this if they are to have any chance of

:09:56.:10:01.

hanging in. Everybody wanted to win games for different reasons. Once

:10:02.:10:09.

you get four losses, you are one match away from knowing your

:10:10.:10:17.

campaign will be over. The way the standings are panning out, five wins

:10:18.:10:23.

give you a chance of top four. The girls are going to have to work hard

:10:24.:10:29.

to get past the guard in front. Good sweeping. It has unfortunately, out

:10:30.:10:40.

the other side, but she did the first job in hand which was to get

:10:41.:10:46.

stone removed. -- this stone removed. Lee playing second, we

:10:47.:10:59.

talked about the fact she has been alternating with Shin Mi-sung, who

:11:00.:11:03.

is the more experienced player. Putting that pretty much where her

:11:04.:11:24.

skip had asked. I was reading a quote from Shin Mi-sung who was

:11:25.:11:32.

talking about the funding that they are receiving, millions of dollars

:11:33.:11:38.

going into Korean curling and she was remarking about how you have to

:11:39.:11:45.

remember where they came from, they were borrowing equipment from other

:11:46.:11:49.

teams and they were envious, going over to Canada, it was almost a hand

:11:50.:11:57.

to mouth existence to begin with for them. It was a similar situation for

:11:58.:12:07.

the Russians when they first darted, borrowing second-hand shoes,

:12:08.:12:12.

anything they could get their hands on sole they were playing with good

:12:13.:12:23.

equipment, and look at them now. Will fully they can get some money

:12:24.:12:32.

behind them -- hopefully. With future games moving to Asian

:12:33.:12:40.

countries, the Winter Olympics, where is the next one? Korea. The

:12:41.:12:50.

governor of the province where these four come from, they have a big new

:12:51.:13:00.

training centre, and he has funded all of their travel. That funding is

:13:01.:13:08.

going to be close to $10 million leading up to the next Olympics just

:13:09.:13:17.

for this sport, built around the women's team at the moment, but they

:13:18.:13:21.

could have a men's team as well. This Korean team will have put in a

:13:22.:13:40.

lot of preparation, but I fully expect to see after another three or

:13:41.:13:54.

form -- four years' experience, they could be doing a similar job to what

:13:55.:14:01.

Eve is doing. She skipped the team in Vancouver in 2010 and they

:14:02.:14:08.

managed to get to the play-offs, but the experience has been very good

:14:09.:14:14.

for her, she has grown into a much more professional young lady in her

:14:15.:14:20.

approach to the game. Our experience has increased tenfold.

:14:21.:14:37.

She has been playing well, Gim Un-chi. Not quite coming off for

:14:38.:14:46.

her. I felt her pain. Every time these shots are not

:14:47.:15:06.

coming off, they know how good Eve is when she is on her game, and

:15:07.:15:13.

giving her any opportunity, and the Korean skip at the moment is not

:15:14.:15:15.

matching Eve Muirhead. We are going to seek Eve with the

:15:16.:15:55.

apt turn -- see Eve with the out-turn.

:15:56.:16:02.

Eve would have liked that to sit in front of that stone. Nonetheless,

:16:03.:16:07.

what we have seen, even when there has been an opportunity for Ji-sun

:16:08.:16:12.

Kim, she has struggled to capitalise. We can see a bit of that

:16:13.:16:14.

stone. Shooting 69% overall today. They

:16:15.:16:44.

have only played four ends, so that can obviously change. She will need

:16:45.:16:48.

to improve. Has she got that one right?

:16:49.:16:59.

This gives Eve the opportunity to certainly prevent Korea scoring well

:17:00.:17:27.

here. Again, putting on the pressure for a steal.

:17:28.:17:38.

Eve Muirhead, she wants to come down and catch this on the nose if

:17:39.:17:44.

possible. It needs to turn a little more.

:17:45.:18:09.

Allowing to -- two. Is she looking to see whether she will take this

:18:10.:18:16.

on? A big shot here. There is the chance because that has rolled a

:18:17.:18:23.

little to the left. This is it. If she does miss it, it will be another

:18:24.:18:29.

steal. Whether you take this on, or take your one.

:18:30.:18:38.

I think she is going to try to take this on. I know if it was a shot

:18:39.:18:44.

facing Eve Muirhead, I know which one she would take.

:18:45.:18:57.

She only has two, obviously she has two judge the angle well, come

:18:58.:19:07.

across and take the second British stone out, sitting at three o'clock.

:19:08.:19:14.

But, miss it, that will stay in there for shot.

:19:15.:19:19.

It would give them a chance to score big. They are not touching this at

:19:20.:19:37.

all. That is right on the nose. Another steal. A steal for Great

:19:38.:19:46.

Britain. Going Eve Muirhead's way. Another opportunity missed by Korea.

:19:47.:19:52.

So, Eve Muirhead, guiding her team excellently this morning. After five

:19:53.:19:56.

ends, halfway point, they lead by three.

:19:57.:20:04.

Jackie, you said that was a shot Eve would have taken on. If the skip

:20:05.:20:13.

isn't playing well, maybe the team will say, let us go in one down. If

:20:14.:20:21.

the skip was playing well, then go for it. We saw that in the men's

:20:22.:20:28.

match with Denmark yesterday. But she has been struggling. I think you

:20:29.:20:35.

have to be almost pumped to play these shots. If she had made that

:20:36.:20:42.

shot, it would have raised her whole confidence to go into the next half

:20:43.:20:47.

of the game. But she hasn't been quite at the races today. I don't

:20:48.:20:52.

understand. If that was the end, you have to take the risk and go for a

:20:53.:20:56.

big shot, they could have scored big. She had to make sure she was

:20:57.:21:04.

going to get some sort of a roll. She overthrew that. She never even

:21:05.:21:08.

gave the stone a chance to take a turn. Looking back, if you are just

:21:09.:21:16.

joining us, the highlights of the first five ends, a good start for

:21:17.:21:21.

Korea, they picked up two in the first end. Britain responded by

:21:22.:21:32.

taking three. Eve had, her first shot of the morning, wasn't her

:21:33.:21:37.

best, but since then she has been playing some really nice stuff, well

:21:38.:21:40.

backed up by her team, setting up the yen is really well. After

:21:41.:21:47.

picking up three in the second, blanked the third. Ji-sun Kim has

:21:48.:21:53.

not been able to make the shots as she did there. An opportunity in the

:21:54.:22:00.

fourth and fifth to score but didn't take it. This steal on both

:22:01.:22:06.

occasions both going to Great Britain. Some happy British

:22:07.:22:12.

campers. Where are they camping! It is warm enough outside to be

:22:13.:22:20.

camping! People going for a little jog along the Black Sea path.

:22:21.:22:27.

Yesterday, people work in shorts and T-shirts. Unbelievable. We have to

:22:28.:22:33.

keep reminding ourselves we are at the Olympic Games, the Winter

:22:34.:22:34.

Olympic Games. We know plenty of people will be

:22:35.:22:52.

watching at home in the early morning. Whether you are off to

:22:53.:22:58.

school or at work. If you are with us... Actually, it is Saturday,

:22:59.:23:04.

goodness me. A few kids have jumped up and said, what! I think it is a

:23:05.:23:10.

break for some of the kids, from school. I am sure there will be lots

:23:11.:23:15.

of young mums, or mum is up with their kids, we are offered early

:23:16.:23:20.

risers. This will be something to watch. If there is anybody out there

:23:21.:23:27.

who is not enjoying this game of curling, I have said before there

:23:28.:23:33.

are a couple of websites you can visit, to get inspired, to find out

:23:34.:23:44.

lots of events at this Winter Olympics. And a come and try website

:23:45.:23:53.

on curling. If you are even in an area up in Scotland, I know at the

:23:54.:23:59.

moment the Scottish Championships taking place. There is also the

:24:00.:24:08.

world seniors in Dumfries at the end of April. Lots going on, if people

:24:09.:24:13.

want to continue this great sport of curling, to watch it and see how it

:24:14.:24:21.

is played. That is a fixtures clash, the Scottish Championships during

:24:22.:24:25.

the winter Olympics. There has been a lot of debate. These girls

:24:26.:24:29.

competing at the Winter Olympics and not getting the chance to play for

:24:30.:24:34.

their own home country. It's not just that, curling fans going to the

:24:35.:24:41.

Scottish Championships, but this is once every four years. I did hear

:24:42.:24:48.

all the players in Perth were glued to the television, when they are not

:24:49.:24:54.

competing they are sitting in the conference rooms watching these

:24:55.:24:59.

Games on the big screen. Whether you are a curling fan or at the Scottish

:25:00.:25:07.

Championships, at work, we won't tell anybody, seriously!

:25:08.:25:11.

If there are kids watching this morning, well done! Early on a

:25:12.:25:13.

Saturday morning. It is going well for Great Britain.

:25:14.:25:27.

Both our men's team and women's team building momentum. Sitting at the

:25:28.:25:33.

top of the standings for their first six bit -- matches. They will be

:25:34.:25:40.

back tonight, a big match this afternoon. At 2pm here in Sochi.

:25:41.:25:50.

10am back home. The British men are taking on Canada. Brad Jacobs and

:25:51.:26:01.

his brink -- rink. They like to wear the tight T-shirts. They had a

:26:02.:26:08.

tricky start, the Canadian men, getting a bit of stick back home.

:26:09.:26:14.

The expectation is particularly high particularly for the men. The women

:26:15.:26:18.

are sailing through the competition. Although, I can tell

:26:19.:26:23.

you Japan have stolen one, taking a 5-4 lead in that match. They need to

:26:24.:26:29.

win that want to assure themselves of qualification. Not quite going to

:26:30.:26:34.

plan at the moment. And Sweden have pulled to back in the last couple of

:26:35.:26:43.

ends. 3-2, China lead that one. Sweden are closing that one up a

:26:44.:26:48.

little. Not the best of starts here it --

:26:49.:26:55.

for Britain in the sixth end. We were talking through that break. I

:26:56.:27:01.

caught David Hay kind of saying that, although they are in a good

:27:02.:27:07.

position, they have to be careful. It is more the opposition's

:27:08.:27:11.

mistakes. If we look at these stats, there is not much difference

:27:12.:27:18.

in it. The Korean skip, Ji-sun Kim, it is slightly struggling. We have

:27:19.:27:28.

to keep our ion this game. -- our eye on. Another slack shot but she

:27:29.:27:36.

would have preferred to have that T-high on the centre line.

:27:37.:27:48.

I am going to give a shout out to the dads up with a young kids. I did

:27:49.:27:56.

same arms earlier but, in this day and edge, it is a 50-50 opportunity

:27:57.:28:05.

to watch with the children now -- in this day.

:28:06.:28:11.

Nowadays, lots of dads are watching with their kids. A big shout out to

:28:12.:28:20.

all of you dads. Have resorted everybody at, kept

:28:21.:28:25.

everybody happy? I am trying my best here. -- have we sorted everybody

:28:26.:28:34.

out. There is one group we haven't

:28:35.:28:38.

mentioned, that is the teenagers. If you are up this morning, well done

:28:39.:28:40.

to you. Using these two shots at the back.

:28:41.:28:52.

They wanted to be a little closer there. To make it difficult for

:28:53.:28:58.

Great Britain to remove the yellow stone. Because of this, I am sure

:28:59.:29:06.

Eve will be happy to throw some heavyweight at this -- heavy weight

:29:07.:29:16.

at this. Yesterday, let us not forget,

:29:17.:29:24.

Britain were 5-1 down against Denmark. Although Great Britain are

:29:25.:29:31.

up against Korea... That is a very nice shot. Even though things have

:29:32.:29:34.

gone your way, it is easily turned around. Things can turn right

:29:35.:29:41.

around. And start going against you. That was a nice shot, just clipping

:29:42.:29:45.

it. She is happy with that one.

:29:46.:30:02.

Seul-bee Lee, trying to play a similar shot to last time. Still

:30:03.:30:08.

those two stones for her to come up against.

:30:09.:30:19.

This makes the margin of error less in a smaller surface area. She has

:30:20.:30:31.

played that stone very well. Ill has the possibility to come down on the

:30:32.:30:49.

in turn. I think left-handed players are a great asset to any team. That

:30:50.:30:54.

is a nice shot. That is a smile we have seen plenty

:30:55.:31:16.

of from Anna Sloan. These four, they have all known each other a long

:31:17.:31:27.

time, all of a similar age. Anna had plenty of success in her junior

:31:28.:31:31.

career and is now backing up Eve Muirhead really well. This has been

:31:32.:31:41.

a great little unit they have going. They get on on and off the ice and

:31:42.:31:49.

that makes such a difference in this sport.

:31:50.:31:57.

They did not have the weight for that shot. Plenty of volume. We

:31:58.:32:17.

thought the crowd was loud. They have been particularly quiet. There

:32:18.:32:24.

is a little Korean contingent who were practising their chants, they

:32:25.:32:32.

have not had much to say. Great Britain keeping control.

:32:33.:33:01.

I think once again we are going to try the about -- out turn raise. You

:33:02.:33:18.

want it to sit right on top of it and have no space between yours and

:33:19.:33:30.

the opposition's stone. Something like that. Another couple of inches,

:33:31.:33:38.

but to be honest she has been playing really well. She has been

:33:39.:33:44.

setting the skip up, combating Anna Sloan, it is probably frustrating

:33:45.:33:49.

for her, but she has to keep playing her shots and hope that her skip

:33:50.:33:59.

comes to the game. I suppose that is what the coach will have said, keep

:34:00.:34:05.

setting up the opportunities and hope that Kim Ji-sun starts to play

:34:06.:34:10.

a little better. It would be good if that could hang

:34:11.:34:31.

in. That was a nice try. It came across the face a little bit too

:34:32.:34:39.

much and it has jammed the yellow and it has not removed from play. It

:34:40.:34:46.

gives people back the opportunity to draw one down and rest in front of

:34:47.:34:51.

the red stone we see on the right-hand side of the back. She has

:34:52.:34:58.

to play a straightforward shot and set things up for herself. Both of

:34:59.:35:12.

those last steals, her shot was not good enough. The team have set it up

:35:13.:35:23.

and created the opportunity and as a skip you have to finish it off.

:35:24.:35:45.

She did manage that. I think we will see Eve Muirhead remove this yellow

:35:46.:36:05.

stone. She is going to try to come down and take that, as she looks at

:36:06.:36:13.

it, the stored on the right -- stone. I have said this a couple of

:36:14.:36:22.

times, Kim Ji-sun would have a great opportunity to come back and take

:36:23.:36:34.

the two. She needs to make sure that Eve Muirhead get this right and hits

:36:35.:36:42.

it on the nose, which she does. That should be a fairly straightforward

:36:43.:36:49.

shot for Kim Ji-sun. If she gets this wrong, she might not have too

:36:50.:36:55.

many friends amongst the team. She has a play a similar shot to the

:36:56.:37:10.

one that Eve Muirhead has just done and close the gap . She is shouting

:37:11.:37:34.

at them to close the line. They take their two, finally and Kim Ji-sun

:37:35.:37:45.

will breathe a sigh of relief. The very first end she has managed to do

:37:46.:37:52.

that. Great Britain will have the hammer in the seventh end.

:37:53.:38:17.

She seemed more worried than I think she needed to be. It is probably

:38:18.:38:25.

more to do with what has gone before. A few union Jacks kicking

:38:26.:38:32.

around. Canada still trailing Japan full.

:38:33.:38:59.

China still 3-2 up and have the hammer.

:39:00.:39:13.

Looking at their match, there are nine stones and you could just about

:39:14.:39:28.

the roll your jacket over them, a big jacket!

:39:29.:39:42.

Great Britain have last stone advantage, the hammer, in this end,

:39:43.:40:03.

and we really need to stop tee high. Why is it called the hammer? Do not

:40:04.:40:15.

look at me like that! I am not sure. I think it is a Canadian term. I

:40:16.:40:21.

will have to look that up. You got me out! It visually strange -- is

:40:22.:40:31.

really strange because the girls have one slow piece all and one

:40:32.:40:38.

grippy Saul and a rubber attachment and we call it a cap. -- a kipper.

:40:39.:40:55.

It probably looks like a kipper and smells like a kipper! That is your

:40:56.:41:05.

homework. I knew you would put me under pressure.

:41:06.:41:19.

You can hear a little frustration. Struggling with weight this morning.

:41:20.:41:31.

Eve came to put the pressure on. The team is playing 81 against 81% so

:41:32.:41:41.

you have to keep your eye on the game.

:41:42.:41:50.

Over the next four ends, you should have the hammer in the ninth.

:41:51.:42:07.

Eve Muirhead wanting to clear things out a little. Those guards could

:42:08.:42:33.

cause her trouble later. That is pretty good. Good result for Vicki

:42:34.:42:44.

Adams. That has cleared things out up front. The British stone that has

:42:45.:43:03.

stared -- stayed there might comment to play later.

:43:04.:43:13.

With one stone, trying to get onto the centre line. That is pretty

:43:14.:43:17.

good. Eve calling for Vicki Adams to come

:43:18.:43:33.

in and tap this one back. Just biting that one at the bottom,

:43:34.:44:21.

the Korean stone. It has gone across and sat behind the corner guard that

:44:22.:44:26.

I said might be come useful at one point. She said she could not see

:44:27.:44:35.

any of it. There is a draw in there and if we can get past the top guard

:44:36.:44:37.

there is a possibility. With them hitting and rolling

:44:38.:45:05.

out... The Korean stone just scoring at the moment.

:45:06.:45:18.

We are going to try to put one round behind the corner guard, to utilise

:45:19.:45:24.

that. Hopefully, get a mistake. On the challenge you have set me. Do

:45:25.:45:45.

I get a couple of options, to ask the audience, phone a friend? If you

:45:46.:45:50.

have given me a couple of options, I am not going to ask the audience

:45:51.:45:53.

because I am not sure they will know. I might have two phone a

:45:54.:46:03.

friend. That is the same thing! -- have to phone a friend.

:46:04.:46:09.

Actually, why did you pick a friend who hasn't got up yet, they would be

:46:10.:46:15.

delighted you ringing them on a Saturday morning. Wakey wakey!

:46:16.:46:26.

A nice shot played by Anna. Korea are now having to follow.

:46:27.:46:40.

Another decent shot from Un-chi Gim. They have lifted themselves up a

:46:41.:46:51.

little bit. Obviously, they have been encouraging each other well.

:46:52.:46:56.

You can tell they are sensing they might have a chance to turn this

:46:57.:47:01.

around a little. They have picked up two in the previous end which has

:47:02.:47:02.

given them some encouragement. As you can see, Britain lying shot

:47:03.:47:20.

here with the skips to play. She really does have two, Ji-sun

:47:21.:47:54.

Kim, it has really been her indifferent play over the last five

:47:55.:48:03.

ends which saw them 5-2 down. A couple of decent shots in the

:48:04.:48:06.

previous end have helped her. A good try. It stayed pretty

:48:07.:48:32.

straight down there. It did, it held the line. It is behind the centre

:48:33.:48:43.

line in the back half of the ring. Eve, I don't think, will be too

:48:44.:48:48.

worried by it. There is a really nice am a good

:48:49.:48:57.

finish on this outturn. As long as they judge and control it

:48:58.:49:15.

well, they can leave that, drawing until the very last minute, behind

:49:16.:49:18.

the centre. Another good shot from either your

:49:19.:49:45.

head. Maybe slid on a little too far if I am being picky. It would have

:49:46.:49:52.

been nice to sit on the blue, the other side of the blue on the top.

:49:53.:49:58.

But it is still lying shot at the minute. The Korean skip, Ji-sun Kim,

:49:59.:50:05.

will have to play a good shot if she is to force a one or two steel one

:50:06.:50:12.

-- steal one. Otherwise, there is the possibility

:50:13.:50:23.

that Eve could try to promote and take it out.

:50:24.:50:29.

Ji-sun Kim trying to follow up the good shot she played a few moments

:50:30.:50:37.

ago. To try to force Eve Muirhead perhaps to take the one, it is still

:50:38.:50:44.

out there. This one has deftly got much more weight. She has been

:50:45.:50:57.

caught a couple of times here. Once again, Ji-sun Kim not playing the

:50:58.:51:04.

shot her team needed. Even if she had come across in front of the

:51:05.:51:09.

stone, it would have been much better than that. She has tapped her

:51:10.:51:15.

own behind said Eve has more protection of the red stone sitting

:51:16.:51:17.

there. A fairly straightforward draw for

:51:18.:51:18.

Eve Muirhead. The British skip, looking to pick up

:51:19.:51:36.

the two here. It has been another good end for Great Britain and

:51:37.:51:40.

another end where the Korean skip, Ji-sun Kim, has struggled.

:51:41.:51:46.

So, another nice shot from Eve Muirhead. Perfectly played. And

:51:47.:51:55.

watched by the sweepers. Another two for Great Britain. It is 7-4, as

:51:56.:52:05.

they head into the last three ends. Korea will have the hammer in the

:52:06.:52:08.

eighth. Their skip is really struggling. For Great Britain, it is

:52:09.:52:14.

very much as planned, so far, looking good.

:52:15.:52:19.

STUDIO: You can see the end of this match on the red button. This is the

:52:20.:52:34.

first of two matches. They have the Swiss. If you want to keep watching,

:52:35.:52:39.

the red button. Dave Murdoch has a potentially

:52:40.:52:47.

significant day. At 10am your time, against the Canadians. A very big

:52:48.:52:52.

match. If you have set your alarm, good morning, welcome to coverage of

:52:53.:52:59.

date eight of the Sochi Games. A reasonably gentle start. But I am

:53:00.:53:05.

going to turn on the bonus, with the Super-G. It stands for super giant

:53:06.:53:14.

slalom. Plenty of straight line speed but a few turns to keep it

:53:15.:53:17.

interesting. We are heading up to the Rosa Khutor

:53:18.:53:22.

Alpine Centre. The mountain peaks have been a real feature. Everyone

:53:23.:53:27.

commentating how beautiful the scenery has been. And everybody

:53:28.:53:31.

talking as well about the conditions. Yesterday it was 14

:53:32.:53:37.

degrees in the mountains for the combined event which produced

:53:38.:53:41.

another surprise winner, Viletta winning, from Switzerland. We are

:53:42.:53:45.

starting to see some interesting results. Liver Tim called these

:53:46.:53:55.

funky results. Whilst we could get some crueller temperatures at the

:53:56.:53:59.

end of the weekend, I wonder what we will get this morning on the

:54:00.:54:06.

beautiful but warm day. Emma Carrick Anderson and Matt Chilton are in the

:54:07.:54:11.

commentary box. Three out of the four of these Alpine events have

:54:12.:54:15.

produced some eyebrow raising results. Any hints of disquiet up

:54:16.:54:23.

there? We are looking out of the box now

:54:24.:54:28.

and the views are fantastic, a sensational day. The top of the

:54:29.:54:35.

Super-G is firm, very icy. From where we look, the snow looks

:54:36.:54:41.

lovely, the kind of snow you would enjoy as a recreational skier in

:54:42.:54:46.

April. Racing, not so ideal. The early numbers will do well.

:54:47.:55:00.

Hopefully, the course will hold up. Switzerland have had two gold medals

:55:01.:55:07.

already in the Alpine events. It is Lara Gut, the big Swiss hope today.

:55:08.:55:16.

Lara but will certainly be looking to make amends. She is currently

:55:17.:55:23.

third in the Super-G standings. And looking to make amends after missing

:55:24.:55:28.

out on a downhill gold medal, finishing third, to Tina Maze and

:55:29.:55:29.

Dominique Giffen. -- Gissin. We are just seeing her on the screen

:55:30.:55:44.

from the other day. Who else is there?

:55:45.:55:51.

Interesting, a few who could put an upset in there. Yesterday, we saw

:55:52.:56:00.

Ivica Kostelic, whose coach and father set the slow -- slalom.

:56:01.:56:08.

Today, it could go the way of Anna Fenninger. For me, Tina Weirather,

:56:09.:56:15.

she will be strong as well. Tina Maze, you can't write her off. It

:56:16.:56:24.

will be a great race. From 16-22, we will be on the edge of our seats.

:56:25.:56:37.

Looking at the start list, tell us more.

:56:38.:56:51.

When you come from a family with great heritage, you are destined for

:56:52.:56:56.

great things. This youngster is a fighter, rarely out of the top five.

:56:57.:57:05.

To come back from a nasty bump to the shin the other day in downhill

:57:06.:57:11.

training, well done to get up and put one down today. Good morning,

:57:12.:57:27.

Matt. Her father won six World Cup races as well. And her uncle Andy

:57:28.:57:33.

was an Olympic medallist, she comes from a terrific ski racing pedigree.

:57:34.:57:41.

I understand Graham Bell has just completed a course run less than

:57:42.:57:46.

five minutes ago, this is what it is like.

:57:47.:57:51.

The skies have cleared and conditions could not be more perfect

:57:52.:57:57.

for the women to tackle. At the start, a couple of little turns

:57:58.:58:08.

before you head towards this jump. Really important to keep the skis

:58:09.:58:17.

flat which fly over onto the gliding exception. They have done their best

:58:18.:58:21.

to clear it but it is not running that fast I have to say.

:58:22.:58:38.

Approaching the telephone turn now. Over a little jump. It is going to

:58:39.:58:50.

get going a little later on. Now, into the Meadows. Lots of big,

:58:51.:59:01.

sweeping turns. Lots of terrain in here, you have to be strong,

:59:02.:59:05.

pressing forward over the outside ski. Quite dark and shady. Now, into

:59:06.:59:20.

the forest. Close to that gate. And out, past the net. Now, the tunnel

:59:21.:59:31.

jump and into the bright sunshine. Avoiding the bumps. Now into the

:59:32.:59:41.

legendary compression. Over there, take a little bit of air. This is

:59:42.:59:47.

where you can really let the speed run. Inside, to the finish.

:59:48.:59:57.

Those of you who are eager light will have realised that is in fact

:59:58.:00:09.

file desire -- Val d'Isere. Rosa Khutor is where we are. I don't know

:00:10.:00:11.

why the confusion. Sorry, Hazel. There is a tunnel jump

:00:12.:00:34.

here. That is the only comparison to Val d'Isere. I think we are ready to

:00:35.:00:45.

start the race now. So, on another perfect morning in the mountains, it

:00:46.:00:49.

is all systems go for the women's Olympics will budget, the newest of

:00:50.:00:55.

the pine disciplines, combining the rush of downhill with the technical

:00:56.:00:59.

demands of giant slalom. It is high-speed, hard work from top to

:01:00.:01:04.

bottom. It will be the Spanish skier, Carolina Ruiz Castillo, who

:01:05.:01:12.

opens this race. It really is a steep start. We are coming from the

:01:13.:01:24.

right. It is a sheer drop from here. Number one in the gate, Carolina

:01:25.:01:34.

Ruiz Castillo of Spain, the 2014 Olympic women's Super-G. She pushes

:01:35.:01:41.

out of the gate. We have alternating red and blue gates here. It is

:01:42.:01:47.

high-speed, high octane turning. And that is her Olympics over. Ending at

:01:48.:01:54.

gate number three. What a terrible start for the Spanish racer. She

:01:55.:02:02.

will be kicking herself. The boat clips hit the snow, and there was

:02:03.:02:08.

nothing a racer can do. It is over. We saw her banging her poll on the

:02:09.:02:13.

snow. She will be furious. What a shame. How frustrating for her and

:02:14.:02:21.

her Scottish coach. She has been on good form in the last six months as

:02:22.:02:28.

well. She will be wanting to talk to nobody as she finds her way down the

:02:29.:02:33.

side of the cause. If she is anything like me, I would not speak

:02:34.:02:42.

to anybody for days. I remember! So an earlier start than planned for

:02:43.:02:45.

Leanne Smith of the USA, from New Hampshire. She is from near where

:02:46.:02:58.

Bode Miller hails from, on the east coast. We are just waiting for the

:02:59.:03:06.

timing controller with the headphones on. She will have seen

:03:07.:03:14.

that mistake, so she will have a heads up on that. This top section

:03:15.:03:19.

is very slippery. It does not really get any son. Leanne Smith,

:03:20.:03:25.

26-year-old American, ready to race the Olympic Super-G. Lots of words

:03:26.:03:34.

of encouragement from the American coaches behind. She charges out of

:03:35.:03:43.

the gate and gets down to work. We have a group of Americans in front

:03:44.:03:50.

of us, so they are going crazy. She is on to the Bolshoi to reverse.

:03:51.:04:01.

This is straight. Turn four and five are important. This is where the

:04:02.:04:05.

race could be won or lost. This section is a wake-up call because

:04:06.:04:12.

you have been on that left leg for some time. It might be flatter here,

:04:13.:04:19.

but there are lot of terms. The distance of this course is just over

:04:20.:04:26.

2000m, 2100, starting at 1580 metres, dropping down to 965 metres

:04:27.:04:32.

above sea-level. A vertical drop of 600m from top to bottom. Leanne

:04:33.:04:38.

Smith is coming in and out of the tuck, as you often see on these

:04:39.:04:43.

flatter sections. When you are in the tuck, you can't move your legs

:04:44.:04:49.

as well. A huge mistake, terrible direction of that jump. It is over

:04:50.:04:53.

for her. She landed poorly off the solitary jump, and then she had to

:04:54.:04:58.

make a couple of emergency manoeuvres, skiing extra mileage to

:04:59.:05:03.

put herself back on the racing line. No medals for her today. The course

:05:04.:05:08.

at the bottom is more like a giant slalom than a downhill. At the top,

:05:09.:05:12.

it is closer to a downhill. It is a real test that the Austrian coach

:05:13.:05:20.

has set for this Super-G. She had to have a lot more direction. I think

:05:21.:05:23.

she was surprised by the amount of air she took off that jump. Huge

:05:24.:05:36.

disappointment for Smith. Daniela Merighetti, from Italy. 32 years

:05:37.:05:41.

old, one of the veterans. Just missed a medal in the Olympic

:05:42.:05:44.

downhill. She was fourth on Wednesday. Oh, but mistakes! -- but

:05:45.:05:54.

mistakes. It is proving very difficult. There will be a lot of

:05:55.:05:59.

radio contact going from the bottom back up. If these girls do not go on

:06:00.:06:06.

weak no attacking where they are doing, this is the big thing in

:06:07.:06:10.

Super-G. This is what makes it such a difficult discipline. You are

:06:11.:06:15.

still skiing at such high speeds, 50 or 60 miles an hour. You get one

:06:16.:06:19.

inspection for 45 minutes. Unlike the downhill, where you have a feud

:06:20.:06:23.

training runs and inspections, these girls see it once and then it is

:06:24.:06:29.

flat out or nothing. It is a very difficult -- discipline to ski a

:06:30.:06:35.

fast, clean line. But she has used that mistake to her advantage. She

:06:36.:06:42.

is pushing hard and skiing well. I would think this course might play

:06:43.:06:46.

into the hands of Lara Gooch, who starts at number 20 today -- Lara

:06:47.:06:52.

Gut. It is icy and demanding, the sort of course she would normally

:06:53.:07:10.

thrive on. But this is going to be a serious test this morning. We are

:07:11.:07:16.

going to lose a lot of the starters. You can see that it is trapping up

:07:17.:07:20.

already. Again, Daniela Merighetti did not have enough direction on

:07:21.:07:30.

that solitary jump. Jessica Lindell-Vikarby could do well today.

:07:31.:07:39.

The technical demands of this course will suit the Swede. She did not

:07:40.:07:44.

race in the super combined to the downhill, so she is making her first

:07:45.:07:49.

Olympic appearance in 2014. And making the best of the top section,

:07:50.:07:54.

better than anybody so far to the first five turns. Maybe a bit round,

:07:55.:08:02.

but in hindsight, she could have attacked it a bit more. So many

:08:03.:08:07.

mistakes were made by the three girls before her, she thought, maybe

:08:08.:08:12.

I will take it easy and get through the difficult section. She will

:08:13.:08:18.

enjoy this bit. It might be flat, but this course is a work from top

:08:19.:08:24.

to bottom. She has a win under her belt already this season in the

:08:25.:08:32.

giant slalom. She gets very vocal when she comes down these courses.

:08:33.:08:35.

You can hear her screaming and grunting her way through some of the

:08:36.:08:43.

terms. I did not hear any grunting, but we might be grunting! Come on!

:08:44.:08:49.

That section really is difficult. What a shame. She was skiing so

:08:50.:08:54.

well. They have to come in with way more direction. It is a left-footed

:08:55.:09:03.

turn. Then you take off on the left foot, but you have to land very

:09:04.:09:06.

quickly on the right hand. She lands too far to the left. It is the

:09:07.:09:13.

solitary jump that is catching them out, and that is in view of the

:09:14.:09:16.

crowd, so there was a collective groan when they saw another one fail

:09:17.:09:22.

to finish, remarkably. They are falling like flies here. Marie

:09:23.:09:39.

Marchand-Arvier -- Marie-Michele Gagnon dislocated her shoulder

:09:40.:09:42.

earlier. They popped it back in quickly, and she decided to race

:09:43.:09:49.

today. Another one bites the dust. Has anyone finished yet? No. So,

:09:50.:10:04.

maybe a little bit too tough. It is very slick up there. I think the

:10:05.:10:09.

girls have got to back off, especially on this top section. They

:10:10.:10:16.

should skim it rounder, giving themselves more space, like a giant

:10:17.:10:21.

slalom. Actually, Leanne Smith did finish. It was a shoddy finish, but

:10:22.:10:25.

she did make over gates. So she still leads the way. We have one

:10:26.:10:37.

racer in the finish. And so far, four did not finishes. The next

:10:38.:10:45.

racer is another one coming back from a fall, Marie Marchand-Arvier.

:10:46.:10:48.

She had the biggest fall of the Olympics so far, when she clattered

:10:49.:10:53.

headfirst into the safety netting at the top. I am amazed that she is

:10:54.:11:02.

racing today, but she is clearly battered and bruised, but feeling

:11:03.:11:07.

fit enough to tackle this Super-G. The two way radios are working

:11:08.:11:12.

overtime with instructions from the bottom and the middle part of the

:11:13.:11:15.

course, via the coaches to the racers at the top, giving them

:11:16.:11:20.

instructions. They are saving medals to be won today, with all the

:11:21.:11:25.

fallers we are going to experience. There is a chance for somebody from

:11:26.:11:31.

outside the top Super-G rankings to get in amongst the medals. Marie

:11:32.:11:38.

Marchand-Arvier failed to finish the downhill. Can she make it to the

:11:39.:11:43.

bottom of the Olympic Super-G? You can see her skis bouncing around,

:11:44.:11:48.

and she is out as well. My goodness, this is proving so tough at the top.

:11:49.:11:54.

Graham said after his run on the course that it is so slick. You can

:11:55.:12:04.

see the skis bouncing around. Good on them for putting their injuries

:12:05.:12:09.

behind them. It shows how tough these athletes are physically and

:12:10.:12:12.

mentally, that they can come back a few days later and try and put it

:12:13.:12:17.

behind them. If she is the only one to finish, they will give her all

:12:18.:12:21.

the medals, Leanne Smith! That would be a first! So, five failed to

:12:22.:12:40.

finish. Six have started. The person who set the course may now be

:12:41.:12:50.

thinking it is a bit too tough. Lauren Ross of the US will be next

:12:51.:12:55.

to go. Let's give you a heads up of some of the big names. Julia Mancuso

:12:56.:13:04.

starts in 14. Nicole Hosp in 16. Tina Weirather in 17. They are

:13:05.:13:10.

gathering hard and fast at the side of the course. That is such an

:13:11.:13:16.

unusual sight to see. Laurenne Ross's turn next. So, we have one

:13:17.:13:28.

finisher, Leanne Smith, 1:28.38. If Lauren Ross gets there, we will have

:13:29.:13:37.

a USA 1-2, but this is a really unusual situation. She needs to be

:13:38.:13:46.

gentle with these terms, not push too hard on the edges. She has that

:13:47.:13:52.

clean, high line. She is one of the lucky ones. A team-mate Smith is in

:13:53.:13:59.

the finish, so she will have had contacted via the two-way radio. She

:14:00.:14:04.

will know how it feels to ski it. The coaches can only radio back and

:14:05.:14:09.

say what it looks like, so she is in a strong position. 11th in the

:14:10.:14:15.

downhill on Wednesday. She has got to be dynamic. This is the thing

:14:16.:14:23.

with the soft snow. From here down, it starts to get soft. From Laurenne

:14:24.:14:30.

Ross, it will feel nice to ski on. It is not so nice once it chops up,

:14:31.:14:35.

but she's loving it at the moment. Good, clean skiing. She has still

:14:36.:14:44.

got the solitary jump to come. If you have come unstuck here. Ross

:14:45.:14:48.

damns them sideways, but makes the next. And she is out! I can't

:14:49.:14:59.

believe it. Stays on her feet and skis home, but no time. And yet

:15:00.:15:06.

another one. We have got one from seven in the finish now.

:15:07.:15:11.

Unbelievable. You very rarely see a 360 on the middle of a very steep

:15:12.:15:15.

supergiant kissed. The ten out of ten for acrobatic skills, but

:15:16.:15:25.

unfortunately, no time for her. Next to go, Kajsa Kling from Sweden.

:15:26.:15:32.

British interest today, Chemmy Alcott. Will be interesting to see

:15:33.:15:38.

what the state of players among the leaders by the time she comes down a

:15:39.:15:45.

little later on. Let us keep our fingers crossed she can at least get

:15:46.:15:50.

a finish today. Kajsa Kling on her way. We don't. Leanne Smith has

:15:51.:15:58.

18.7. This is more like it. Kajsa Kling, what a great top section.

:15:59.:16:06.

Very good. The strongest top part by far. She started the turn and

:16:07.:16:12.

finished it early and let a little -- let it run a little more. A clean

:16:13.:16:16.

start. She had a second in December. She knows how to put the hammer down

:16:17.:16:22.

and she knows what it feels like to ski to the podium. Seventh in the

:16:23.:16:28.

Super-G standings. Looks pretty comfortable here. Nice and light and

:16:29.:16:35.

easy on her edges. Toughest part of the course, keep part of the course,

:16:36.:16:43.

coming up. Solitary jump. Got away with it so far. No! Another one. I

:16:44.:16:51.

actually cannot believe this. She took so much direction over the

:16:52.:16:56.

roller. She was in a perfect line. Perfect line. She made a quick edge

:16:57.:17:02.

change and in my view it almost looked like in her head she thought

:17:03.:17:06.

I cannot make it. She looked to me like she could make it. Quick edge

:17:07.:17:12.

change. She is late but I think she could have fought just that little

:17:13.:17:16.

bit more. Leanne Smith cannot believe what is going on. She was

:17:17.:17:21.

not exactly fast at the bottom but she is still leading. She skied

:17:22.:17:25.

extra mileage all the way down with loop terms. -- turns. Next, Fabienne

:17:26.:17:39.

Suter. This course is set by one of the Austrian coaches. The way things

:17:40.:17:43.

are, he will not be very popular. Certainly not. If I was eight

:17:44.:17:47.

coats, I would be banging them around me had by now that macro if I

:17:48.:17:53.

was a coach -- if I was a coach, I would be banging them around the

:17:54.:17:58.

head by now. She stays long on the left ski, coming out of Bolshoy

:17:59.:18:05.

Traverse. Not a big jump today but they have to make a move. She was a

:18:06.:18:11.

little bit late there. She is up. Good. Fifth in the downhill. Solid

:18:12.:18:19.

Olympic result under her belt. Relatively straightforward flat here

:18:20.:18:25.

but then suddenly the ground drops away as she gets airborne off the

:18:26.:18:29.

solitary jump. She has got a fast section in towards the finish to

:18:30.:18:35.

negotiate. She has got to judge the line correctly and be nice and high.

:18:36.:18:41.

Here we go. A little bit direct. I think they have to actually take the

:18:42.:18:46.

speed off. Good. She is there. She has made it through. They have to

:18:47.:18:50.

take the speed off as they come into the big turn and then they can

:18:51.:18:54.

safely manoeuvre themselves through the last gates. Unbelievable tension

:18:55.:19:03.

as they watch. Finally, a finisher. Fabian Schar route at skis into gold

:19:04.:19:11.

medal position -- Fabienne Suter skis into gold medal position. The

:19:12.:19:19.

two finishers so far out of nine starters. Fabulous it, such a strong

:19:20.:19:28.

run. Almost error-free. When she came over the last jump, she made

:19:29.:19:34.

snow contact very quickly. Next to go, Nadia Fanchini from Italy. This

:19:35.:19:44.

course should suit her as well. She has a whole stack of DNFs on her

:19:45.:19:51.

name against the result. If anyone will ski out, Nadia Fanchini. Maybe

:19:52.:20:01.

today she will turn it around. Fearless skier. Can she make it

:20:02.:20:11.

count today? She is not .52 behind. Losing a pole on the Bolshoy

:20:12.:20:15.

Traverse as she tried to regain her physician. But now she is off again

:20:16.:20:28.

and she is enjoying her turns. -- regain her position. Losing speed

:20:29.:20:33.

all the way down. Still could be good enough for second position. She

:20:34.:20:37.

has to harness the speed and control her arrival of the solitary jump.

:20:38.:20:43.

Now things get tough. She gets some sideways and then she is back in

:20:44.:20:46.

control. She has got or dynamic balance. This is a nice Highline,

:20:47.:20:53.

one of the best we have seen, on the final pitch which has caught so many

:20:54.:20:58.

out. Can she become the third skier to finish the Olympic Super-G? She

:20:59.:21:03.

is home and dry and second, in silver. Fabienne Suter still has the

:21:04.:21:14.

best time. Leanne Smith in bronze at the moment. Nadia Fanchini drawing

:21:15.:21:23.

on her slalom skills as she had to make quit quick changes. The turn of

:21:24.:21:29.

the joint Olympic downhill champion, Dominique Gisin. Shared the downhill

:21:30.:21:40.

gold. Tina Maze joined her with an identical time, 1:45.57. Coming in

:21:41.:21:55.

with a load of confidence. Maybe a little bit late in the line into

:21:56.:22:00.

Bolshoy Traverse. Gates four and five, you have got to be early and

:22:01.:22:04.

quick out of it so you can carry the speed into the Traverse. Gold

:22:05.:22:09.

medallist in downhill, fifth in the super combined. Not .86 of the place

:22:10.:22:17.

of team-mate Fabienne Suter who leads the pace -- 0.86. She

:22:18.:22:24.

generally prefers the more open higher speed turns. This Super-G

:22:25.:22:30.

maybe a little bit too tight, playing into the hands of the giant

:22:31.:22:37.

slalom specialist. This is the key part. She has got to come from left

:22:38.:22:42.

to right and rise the arms forward. This is good and clean skiing. Very,

:22:43.:22:51.

very clean. She is in trouble. She ends up horizontal. No finish for

:22:52.:22:56.

her today. I hope she is all right. It was a fairly innocuous looking

:22:57.:23:02.

slip. Let us hope she has done no damage. I think she just caught an

:23:03.:23:07.

edge and maybe this is the part of the course that they have been

:23:08.:23:11.

throwing a let chilly lot of chemicals and salt down on it to

:23:12.:23:19.

soften it up -- throwing a lot of chemicals and salt down. We have

:23:20.:23:25.

only three finishers at the bottom of the course. Fabienne Suter is in

:23:26.:23:39.

gold. I am happy to say, she appears to have got away unscathed following

:23:40.:23:45.

the slide. I cannot believe we have three finishers out of 11 starters.

:23:46.:23:51.

Wow. A long way to go. Everyone is learning. They are watching at the

:23:52.:23:56.

top and they are discussing at the top what needs to be done.

:23:57.:24:01.

Especially off the solitary jump. The control that needs to be exerted

:24:02.:24:11.

on that final steep pitch. 11 turns, that is the key part of the course.

:24:12.:24:21.

Next to go for Italy, Verena Stuffer. Here we go. Racer number

:24:22.:24:37.

12. She is away. Good Super-G results this season. She has been

:24:38.:24:42.

getting better all the time. She had a fourth place just before the

:24:43.:24:46.

Olympics. They find she is hitting good Super-G form. A bit scruffy at

:24:47.:24:52.

the top. A little bit heavy on the left ski. It shows in the time. What

:24:53.:25:02.

a shame. I would just like to wreak upon what makes Super-G so

:25:03.:25:08.

difficult. They get one inspection. I was like that happens all the

:25:09.:25:13.

time, going out of the course. One inspection of 45 minutes. They fly

:25:14.:25:21.

at speeds of up to 60mph. They have rollers and tight turns and jumps.

:25:22.:25:27.

It is so tricky. It is not like the downhill when they get for five

:25:28.:25:33.

training runs. -- four or five training runs. She is still on

:25:34.:25:39.

target for a medal position. She sets up for the solitary jump.

:25:40.:25:47.

Minimum air time there. She is drifting outside of the ideal racing

:25:48.:25:56.

line but she is holding her balance. Verena Stuffer of Italy, looks like

:25:57.:26:01.

she will finish for Super-G. That is an achievement in itself. She is

:26:02.:26:05.

home in bronze for the moment. Good finish from Verena Stuffer. Fabienne

:26:06.:26:17.

Suter leads. Leanne Smith has been bumped off the medal positions into

:26:18.:26:25.

fourth. They cut the top of the turn off, you see it a lot in giant

:26:26.:26:31.

slalom. Certainly a lot going on here in the Super-G. The first of

:26:32.:26:37.

the Austrians to go, Regina Sterz. The coach of the Austrians set the

:26:38.:26:45.

course. Potentially could be a good day for Anna Fenninger, the best of

:26:46.:26:51.

the Austrians, number 18. Regina Sterz has made a promising start. In

:26:52.:26:57.

touch. Did not look metered enough to me. A bit heavy on the edge.

:26:58.:27:04.

Maybe she thought, I will get through the difficult top section,

:27:05.:27:11.

and now she will pick up the speed. The Austrians won in Vancouver. It

:27:12.:27:20.

was their only Olympic gold. That when I did not get picked. There is

:27:21.:27:24.

no automatic selection. Such depth in the Austrian squad, they felt her

:27:25.:27:31.

form was not good enough so she was not selected to come and defend her

:27:32.:27:36.

title. Good line from Regina Sterz. She knows she is coming into the

:27:37.:27:43.

tricky part of the course. Good turns here. She makes a little

:27:44.:27:50.

mistake as she comes onto the flat. Fabienne Suter leads for

:27:51.:27:54.

Switzerland. Regina Sterz is three games from completing the Super-G.

:27:55.:28:02.

Huge amounts of nervous anticipation at the foot of the course. She skis

:28:03.:28:06.

into bronze medal position for the moment. Now at last we are getting a

:28:07.:28:11.

regular stream of finishers in the Olympic Super-G. We see her coming

:28:12.:28:15.

off the difficult jump. They know they have got to get the skis back

:28:16.:28:21.

onto the snow, makes no contact, as quickly as possible but, -- as

:28:22.:28:27.

possible, you have got to be ready for the next turn. Julia Mancuso

:28:28.:28:34.

next to go for the USA. Bronze medallist in the super combined. Let

:28:35.:28:42.

us see how she goes in the Super-G. I think she will involve the league

:28:43.:28:49.

enjoyed this course. She likes things slightly alternative.

:28:50.:28:54.

Straight into the truck on Bolshoy Traverse. She trains in Hawaii. She

:28:55.:29:00.

does all her training in the beach and on the sea. She does sprints in

:29:01.:29:06.

the sea with rocks in her hands. A bit bizarre, but it works. Half a

:29:07.:29:13.

second behind and getting further removed. But there was still an

:29:14.:29:19.

opportunity on the final pitch to make up lost time. Nobody has skied

:29:20.:29:25.

it perfectly yet. Nobody has gone anywhere near perfection on the

:29:26.:29:31.

final ten turns. Maybe Julia Mancuso can get in amongst it here. She is

:29:32.:29:35.

getting closer. Within half a second of the lead now. She is loving the

:29:36.:29:41.

snow through this section. She is like on her skis and should be good

:29:42.:29:47.

here. She likes the turns. She has got to get off them quickly and she

:29:48.:29:52.

does just that and carries great speed into the flat. Fighting for

:29:53.:30:06.

ballots. -- balance. She is silver medal position for the moment. She

:30:07.:30:10.

made up a whole chunk of time, skiing the bottom pitch better than

:30:11.:30:17.

just about anybody so far. But it is Fabienne Suter who leaves for

:30:18.:30:21.

Switzerland. What a great one for Julia Mancuso. She let rip for about

:30:22.:30:27.

a third down. Beautiful skiing. Big angles on the ski and she was really

:30:28.:30:32.

smooth. That is the key on this soft snow. You have got to be liked.

:30:33.:30:45.

This is the first of the Germans to go. She could pose a threat to the

:30:46.:30:52.

leaderboard. I think the girls are taking it easy getting through that

:30:53.:31:01.

very tough part. Good start for Viktoria Rebensburg. She is looking

:31:02.:31:05.

for the most aerodynamic position she can get the wind. These are

:31:06.:31:20.

dynamic turns. It is great skiing. Now, approaching the key part of the

:31:21.:31:23.

cause, the solitary jump and then the steep, fast turns where the

:31:24.:31:29.

speed has to be harnessed and controlled. She is dead level with

:31:30.:31:36.

Suter. The green light is on, showing that Viktoria Rebensburg has

:31:37.:31:39.

a good speed at the top. This is where things get sorted out. A

:31:40.:31:46.

little ride and a little late. She has got them sideways and she is

:31:47.:31:49.

having to come from way out of the ideal racing line to recover her

:31:50.:31:55.

balance. I think her chance to lead the Olympic Super-G has possibly

:31:56.:32:05.

slipped away. Just outside the winning time. It is a bronze medal

:32:06.:32:09.

position. Suter leads, Mancuso second. She let it go. She lost it

:32:10.:32:18.

on the solitary jump. She landed too far back. She lands on the back part

:32:19.:32:27.

of the scheme . The front does not grip, so there is nothing happening

:32:28.:32:33.

from the shovel. Frustration for the Germans. And delight in the

:32:34.:32:39.

leader's enclosure, as Suter holds onto first position. There was a

:32:40.:32:44.

long way to go. We have still got some of the big names to come. They

:32:45.:32:53.

will be coming in quick succession. What an extraordinary race so far.

:32:54.:33:20.

Most have the big DNF alongside their name, meaning did not finish.

:33:21.:33:26.

So, this is the true test. Lauren Ross, head in her hands. Did not

:33:27.:33:33.

happen for her. For the next seven racers, the vision at the top will

:33:34.:33:39.

be crucial. The course is running different to how they expected. The

:33:40.:33:51.

next race will know the two sections that everyone is struggling with

:33:52.:34:05.

running tougher than in inspection. There is Tina Maze, already the

:34:06.:34:15.

joint champion in the downhill. Seems like a strange thing to do to

:34:16.:34:18.

put snow down your neck, but when it is as warm as it is, they have got

:34:19.:34:30.

to keep cool and be ready to move. Nicole Hosp is the silver medallist

:34:31.:34:38.

from the super combined. Nice and high through gates one, two and

:34:39.:34:45.

three. She has got all the experience. She has listened to the

:34:46.:34:49.

coaches. She is thinking about this and skiing probably the best line we

:34:50.:35:00.

have seen so far. The speed is good. The ayes to the right a confident

:35:01.:35:04.

start. The top five so far in this season. She loves the Super-G

:35:05.:35:11.

terms. She is now on par, but a little mistake, which is a shame

:35:12.:35:14.

because she was coming to the flat section. You can make a mistake on

:35:15.:35:19.

the steep, but not on the flat. It is very difficult to claw back the

:35:20.:35:30.

time. Nicole Hosp gets the green light. She is so sensitive. This is

:35:31.:35:43.

the tricky part. Got to land quickly on that right ski. Again, a little

:35:44.:35:50.

error. She might have let her lead go. The crowd are watching on the

:35:51.:35:57.

big screen, and then the racers are in view. Has Nicole Hosp done enough

:35:58.:36:01.

to take the lead away from Fabienne Suter? Yes. Suter smiles through the

:36:02.:36:13.

pain as she is demoted to second. Nicole Hosp leads the way. She had

:36:14.:36:18.

us on the edges of our seat. What a great skiing. It was not error free,

:36:19.:36:26.

but she let them run. She will be thanking the Austrian coach for

:36:27.:36:32.

setting a course like that. There is the head of the Austrian ski

:36:33.:36:41.

Federation. He is happy. The ayes to the right a huge advantage. Tina

:36:42.:36:50.

Weirather, from an incredible skiing pedigree. Her mother won Olympic

:36:51.:37:00.

gold in 1980 in Lake Placid in GS and slalom, silver in downhill in

:37:01.:37:07.

the same year. 33 World Cup wins for her mother. Her father has six.

:37:08.:37:17.

Uncle Andy had 14 World Cup wins. Actually, it is not Tina Weirather.

:37:18.:37:24.

It is Anna Fenninger for Austria. No Tina Weirather. We have gone

:37:25.:37:28.

straight from number 16 to number 18. This is Anna Fenninger from

:37:29.:37:41.

Austria, going well. She loves the Super-G. Working the feet under her.

:37:42.:38:01.

Great snow contact. She whacks it hard. Did not seem to lose too much

:38:02.:38:07.

speed, remarkably. But now she is drifting outside of the ideal racing

:38:08.:38:12.

line. Very gentle on the bases of her skis, seems to have kept the

:38:13.:38:22.

speed up. It is Fenninger's lead! Despite a shaky finish, she has done

:38:23.:38:35.

enough to lead the race. So, two Austrians in the lead now. Its As

:38:36.:38:45.

many as are of the opinion, say "aye". To the contrary, "no". Clips

:38:46.:38:50.

that gate. Brilliant bottom section. -- Fenninger clips that gate.

:38:51.:39:00.

It is an Austrian 1-2 at the moment. Suter deferred. Tina Maze is next to

:39:01.:39:14.

go. If anyone can put the cat among the pigeons, it is Maze. Already a

:39:15.:39:25.

gold medallist, shared the downhill title with Dominick is in, one of

:39:26.:39:30.

the iconic images of the game so far -- she shared the title with

:39:31.:39:38.

Dominique Gisin. We had mistakes on the bottom pitch from Anna

:39:39.:39:44.

Fenninger, so there is room for improvement from Tina Maze. She's

:39:45.:39:47.

another one with a soft at almost no. Fenninger was so hopefully this

:39:48.:40:06.

section. Now she comes into the tricky part of the course. That was

:40:07.:40:18.

a perfect landing. Now she is fighting for grip on the bottom part

:40:19.:40:22.

of the course. That might have blown her chance of taking the lead away

:40:23.:40:29.

from Anna Fenninger. Tina Maze, looking for her second gold of the

:40:30.:40:33.

games. The damage has been done, and she is in bronze. Austria first and

:40:34.:40:42.

second, with Fenninger and Hosp, Maze in third. That mistake cost her

:40:43.:40:48.

dearly on the bottom steep. The snow is soft and tricky.

:40:49.:41:06.

Lara Gut is the best Super-G scale of the season so far. That is Maria

:41:07.:41:19.

Hoefl-Riesch. Her turn is coming up. Lara Gut was bronze medallist in the

:41:20.:41:25.

downhill. Feisty start. She has three World Cup Super-G wins to her

:41:26.:41:30.

name so far this season. This course could play into her hands. Beautiful

:41:31.:41:37.

angles at the top. She will not be far from Fenninger's time. She went

:41:38.:41:49.

for it at the top, really throwing her feet out there. She was so

:41:50.:41:58.

disappointed the other day with her bronze. If anyone can do it, it will

:41:59.:42:07.

be heard today. Riding nicely through the forest. Pockets of

:42:08.:42:11.

sunshine and shade. This is solid from Lara Gut. She is closing in on

:42:12.:42:20.

the dog Anna Fenninger. Fenninger had a couple of errors on the final

:42:21.:42:30.

steep bit. Now she is fighting for balance over the skis. Now she is

:42:31.:42:37.

drifting further from the racing line. Lara Gut is third. Fenninger

:42:38.:42:55.

holds on. Hosp in second. She took a very risky line. This was where she

:42:56.:43:04.

put them sideways, and it cost her two tenths of a second. Then she was

:43:05.:43:10.

sensational, but coming into the solitary jump, she went for a risky

:43:11.:43:13.

line, straighter than she could have done. There is our leader, Anna

:43:14.:43:25.

Fenninger. Waiting nervously. Still some very talented skiers to come.

:43:26.:43:41.

Elisabeth Goergl, double world champion in 2011 in

:43:42.:43:48.

Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Let's see what she can produce in the Olympic

:43:49.:43:56.

Super-G. She is on fire. This woman knows only one speed, and it is top

:43:57.:44:05.

speed. She will not hold back. It is those exciting watching her. But

:44:06.:44:09.

sometimes she pushes a bit too hard for the ski, so in the software

:44:10.:44:16.

section, that could -- in the softer section, that could faze her. Look

:44:17.:44:27.

at her attack this gliding section. Not holding back. This is where the

:44:28.:44:41.

course starts to sort them out. Oh, off-balance! Sideways, and out of

:44:42.:44:49.

the course. That was a shame. She came in far too straight. If she

:44:50.:44:52.

could have held on to that, she could have been in the mix for the

:44:53.:44:59.

medals. There was no coming back from that. She should have been

:45:00.:45:05.

about four metres further to the left. Cool too far for -- too far

:45:06.:45:19.

for Elisabeth Goergl to control. Let us get a check on the standings

:45:20.:45:27.

here. No, we are heading back to the top. We will be seeing Maria

:45:28.:45:35.

Hoefl-Riesch next to go for Germany. Already an Olympic gold medallist

:45:36.:45:42.

from these Games. She took the title in the super combined. Maria

:45:43.:45:48.

Hoefl-Riesch 's ready to race the Super-G, 22. Out of the start gate.

:45:49.:45:55.

C how she handles this exceptionally difficult course. -- let us see.

:45:56.:46:01.

Second and third recently in the Super-G. She likes it but I think

:46:02.:46:06.

this course is going to prove a lot will be tight. She does not look so

:46:07.:46:11.

comfortable on the top section. She is a great glider, she likes the

:46:12.:46:18.

faster, more open sections. Coming with a load of confidence and you

:46:19.:46:22.

cannot underestimate the amount a confident skier can do. Way too

:46:23.:46:33.

close. The coursework. That was almost a horrendous moment -- course

:46:34.:46:41.

worker. The coursework was repairing the gate panel as she raced at high

:46:42.:46:46.

speed within three metres of him. She is clocking the fastest speed so

:46:47.:46:51.

far despite the near miss. She is flying down the Olympic Super-G. She

:46:52.:46:58.

looks for Gold medal number two. Out into the soft snow. Her chance of

:46:59.:47:04.

gold has surely just slipped away. Had to put the brakes on. It might

:47:05.:47:09.

have cost her the chance to deny Anna Fenninger the win here. Maria

:47:10.:47:18.

Hoefl-Riesch skis into silver medal position to split the Austrians.

:47:19.:47:23.

Fenninger holds on. Maria Hoefl-Riesch in second. Hosp drops

:47:24.:47:28.

to third. She is celebrating but it could have been gold. And it could

:47:29.:47:33.

have been a disaster with the course worker so close. She skied the top

:47:34.:47:40.

and the bottom with errors, but the middle section was fantastic. She

:47:41.:47:43.

let them run and glide into the perfect line. Look at this. There is

:47:44.:47:54.

already a little track there, but that gate... What was he doing?

:47:55.:48:02.

Played havoc with her mind for a split second. Let us get a check on

:48:03.:48:12.

the standings. Fenninger is leading by half a second to Maria

:48:13.:48:22.

Hoefl-Riesch. Ben Temple -- then Hosp. Chemmy Alcott still to come.

:48:23.:48:35.

She will be starting with bib number 34 in her final Olympic race. Anna

:48:36.:48:42.

Fenninger is the champion in waiting. Maria Hoefl-Riesch thinks

:48:43.:48:47.

she might have claimed another Olympic medal. They gold and

:48:48.:48:58.

potentially a silver so far. It could be Anna Fenninger's first goal

:48:59.:49:04.

today. That was when Lara Gut realised she would not pick up a

:49:05.:49:11.

medal. Standing next Maria Hoefl-Riesch's husband. Joy for one

:49:12.:49:16.

and disappointment for another. Proving to be a very exciting and

:49:17.:49:21.

very difficult Super-G. Probably one of the toughest I have seen. I am

:49:22.:49:27.

not even sure it is over yet. No one has skied it anywhere near

:49:28.:49:33.

perfectly. No. Maria Hoefl-Riesch made big mistakes on the bottom

:49:34.:49:38.

section. What she did well was she put the brakes on, she had to,

:49:39.:49:43.

because she went sideways, but then on the finished section, she tried

:49:44.:49:47.

to let the speed take her to the finish. Ilka Stuhec. She can ski

:49:48.:49:57.

fast Super-G when she puts it together. She has had top five

:49:58.:50:03.

results this season. Plenty of time to analyse what has gone before via

:50:04.:50:08.

the monitor at the top of the course. She took a risky line there.

:50:09.:50:15.

Tried to dive down into the fall line rather than coming higher and

:50:16.:50:23.

finishing the turn-off. She was seven tenths back there. It was

:50:24.:50:26.

costly. Time is slipping away slightly. You can see small ruts

:50:27.:50:38.

forming. Nothing too drastic. It is the bottom section in the direct sun

:50:39.:50:48.

that is proving tricky. She is not .99 off the pace. -- 0.99. She comes

:50:49.:50:56.

into the bottom section, very tricky part. It was there we saw Maria

:50:57.:51:05.

Hoefl-Riesch made a big mistake and again, Ilka Stuhec is a bit wild on

:51:06.:51:15.

the bottom section. Anna Fenninger is the quickest of the race so far.

:51:16.:51:23.

Ilka Stuhec is some way removed, she is 12. No change in the medal

:51:24.:51:29.

positions. Fenninger has the gold, Maria Hoefl-Riesch the silver, Hosp

:51:30.:51:35.

the bronze. There is Maria Hoefl-Riesch with her husband. Great

:51:36.:51:40.

scenes at the finish. What a champion she is. Lotte Smiseth

:51:41.:51:50.

Sejersted for Norway starts with number 24. Had a really good result

:51:51.:51:56.

in the downhill on Wednesday. Posted the sixth fastest time there. She

:51:57.:52:04.

has a good high line. I cannot say it is soft snow she got caught up

:52:05.:52:09.

in, but she certainly got stuck in an awkward start. 88.3km threw the

:52:10.:52:22.

gun. The long traverse that plays havoc with the left leg. A little

:52:23.:52:27.

wide and a bit low and slow on the edge change. It is costing her. She

:52:28.:52:32.

has got a lot of work to do. She is trying to get the arms forward to

:52:33.:52:40.

get back into the top. -- the tap. This was where Anna Fenninger won

:52:41.:52:46.

the race. She stayed in the attack for the flat section. When you are

:52:47.:52:49.

in the top, you limit the movement you have. You cannot move your feet

:52:50.:52:54.

from side to side quickly. That is why you see the girls coming in and

:52:55.:53:00.

out of the cup so much year. -- the top so much here. Carrying a lot

:53:01.:53:09.

less speed. Good line from Lotte Smiseth Sejersted. She is certainly

:53:10.:53:12.

attacking the bottom half of the course. This is fast, aggressive.

:53:13.:53:17.

How close can she get? Can she improve on her downhill result? 13.

:53:18.:53:21.

She was sixth in the downhill. That is a shot from above. I'm

:53:22.:53:45.

trying to decide where it is. Also traverse, I think. Nicole Hosp

:53:46.:53:54.

holding onto bronze medal position. Larisa Yurkiw is next to go. From

:53:55.:53:59.

Canada. She was disappointed the other day in the downhill. Lovely

:54:00.:54:04.

story behind her. Big injury in 2009 was kicked off the Canadian team and

:54:05.:54:09.

has had to fund her programmes. She was insistent she would not give up.

:54:10.:54:14.

She has worked so hard and her goal was to make the Sochi Olympics and

:54:15.:54:17.

here she is on the biggest stage bearers. -- stage there is. She gets

:54:18.:54:25.

a little late on some of these terms. OK so far. Big dynamic

:54:26.:54:35.

turns. More upright than she could be. The flatter section, big

:54:36.:54:41.

sweeping turns. The more streamlined you can be, the better it is on the

:54:42.:54:45.

time. She is losing time all the way down. On the edge check, a little

:54:46.:54:58.

10th slipping away. She is out. She has gone. She is not the first and

:54:59.:55:05.

she will not be the last. We have seen an awful lot of this. Tough

:55:06.:55:09.

bottom section. Sorting out the best from the rest. That is how it should

:55:10.:55:15.

be in the Olympics. Fenninger is talking to her family. I loved the

:55:16.:55:24.

scenes the other day when Dominique Gisin was talking to her mum on the

:55:25.:55:29.

phone, so much emotion. It shows how much they have worked over the last

:55:30.:55:33.

four years. To win at the Olympic Games, it does not get bigger and

:55:34.:55:45.

better than that. Francesca Marsaglia next ago for Italy. She is

:55:46.:55:55.

away. Roared out of the start. Best of the Italians is currently Nadia

:55:56.:56:00.

Fanchini down in ninth at this stage. You kind of get an idea of

:56:01.:56:07.

how steep it is when you watch the scene from the start gate. Big

:56:08.:56:11.

mistakes here. Into the solitary John. Must come

:56:12.:57:02.

from left to right. She too is out. -- the solitary jump. Landing miles

:57:03.:57:09.

from the intended target. Unable to make the next turn. Apologies that

:57:10.:57:18.

we lost commentary for a while there. Hopefully we will be back

:57:19.:57:24.

with you now all the way through to number 34 coming down which will be

:57:25.:57:29.

Chemmy Alcott for Great Britain. Mixed emotions here today. Tina Maze

:57:30.:57:34.

soaking up the sun at the bottom of the course, unable to get in amongst

:57:35.:57:39.

the medals. She is fifth at the moment. And there is the leader,

:57:40.:57:43.

Anna Fenninger of Austria. Next to go, Ranhild Mowinkel from Norway,

:57:44.:57:53.

the rising star of the Norwegian team. Sixth in the super combined.

:57:54.:58:01.

Bouncing sideways, not quite the ideal start. A little bit hard on

:58:02.:58:09.

her edges. Get the legs working now as she comes across the flat. It

:58:10.:58:14.

shows. That is a hefty chunk to lose in 22 seconds, 1.04. The little

:58:15.:58:25.

mistakes are so costly. Already a second down, now it is getting on

:58:26.:58:29.

for two seconds. She is pushing too hard. We often talk about that. It

:58:30.:58:36.

is difficult, as a ski racer. You have got to be aggressive but you

:58:37.:58:40.

cannot push hard through the ski. If you do, especially on hard snow, it

:58:41.:58:45.

pushes you sideways and you get bounced around. Then you come onto

:58:46.:58:49.

the soft flat section, the ski digs in if you push too hard. Not the

:58:50.:58:56.

ideal run so far from Ranhild Mowinkel. You can see she is hardly

:58:57.:59:02.

taking off. The girls with more speed, they take off and they have

:59:03.:59:06.

got a much tougher job. She stays online and it is going to be safe

:59:07.:59:17.

into the finish. Anna Fenninger's timers looking rock solid in gold

:59:18.:59:21.

medal position at the moment. Ranhild Mowinkel is one of the

:59:22.:59:25.

slowest of the finishers, more than three seconds behind. We see Ranhild

:59:26.:59:33.

Mowinkel's seat here as she gets bounced around. There is nothing she

:59:34.:59:38.

can do. -- feet. It is just sideways for her.

:59:39.:59:51.

Marusa Ferk for Slovenia, 10th in the super combined. Really high

:59:52.:00:04.

line. Maybe just going for slightly too high a line. We saw Anna

:00:05.:00:11.

Fenninger high but she let them run. Marusa Ferk holding onto the turn to

:00:12.:00:17.

much will stop they have to ski safely. They have to ski it with

:00:18.:00:23.

their head. They have got to think about it. They do not hold back, but

:00:24.:00:26.

they have to think about the line they ski. On the cable camera,

:00:27.:00:42.

winding down the mountain above the racer, gives you a good impression

:00:43.:00:45.

of the speed at which they travel across the snow. 99.9 kilometres per

:00:46.:00:54.

hour. That is what Marusa Ferk has clocked. A little low on that jump.

:00:55.:01:04.

She is getting later and later in the line, but controlling the speed.

:01:05.:01:22.

Really quick off the edges. Marusa Ferk is into 14th position. Tears

:01:23.:01:34.

for some, joy for others. That was Elisabeth Goergl in the finish. You

:01:35.:01:39.

can see how much it means. It is devastating. She had such a good top

:01:40.:01:44.

section. That will be her last Olympic race as well, I imagine, at

:01:45.:01:52.

the age of 32. Stacey Cook, getting words of encouragement from the

:01:53.:02:00.

Americans. She is from California. The crowds are going wild down

:02:01.:02:06.

here, but it was short lived. She flattened that control gate, to add

:02:07.:02:11.

insult to injury. She was already on her face, and then there was fairly

:02:12.:02:19.

unforgiving control gate is arrived to add to the bruising. We have seen

:02:20.:02:27.

a lot of that, putting out on these super-hard, super icy conditions. It

:02:28.:02:31.

is a fine line between getting the angles and being on your hip or your

:02:32.:02:37.

side, as she is. She is OK, but there will be a slight delay now

:02:38.:02:43.

while the control gate is repaired. It is nasty when you click a gate

:02:44.:02:47.

going at that speed. There is no slowing down here. The gates are

:02:48.:02:52.

drilled into the snow and they are in solid ice, so it does not move

:02:53.:03:03.

when you hit it. Fraenzi Aufdenblatten will have to hold for

:03:04.:03:06.

a few seconds until the course is ready. She is from Switzerland. She

:03:07.:03:12.

will have to refocus now for an extra minute that she did not expect

:03:13.:03:21.

to have. She can relax for a minute and then get back to the focus.

:03:22.:03:25.

Nicole Hosp, coming back to the leaders' box to join team-mate Anna

:03:26.:03:32.

Fenninger and Maria Hoefl-Riesch. The gold, silver and bronze

:03:33.:03:36.

medallists, two Austrians and a German. That is how it stands at the

:03:37.:03:55.

moment. She has been a World Cup winner in Super-G in the past, but

:03:56.:03:59.

not for a few years, battling back from injury. She has had plenty of

:04:00.:04:02.

time to think about this waste this morning. Not as committed as she

:04:03.:04:10.

could have been up there, but still in touch. The course is holding up

:04:11.:04:21.

really well. I was not sure whether it would, but it is. That was a big

:04:22.:04:26.

mistake to have made before the flat. And another late one. She was

:04:27.:04:40.

well off the ideal line. I love this shot from the top. You get such a

:04:41.:04:54.

great view. The top six are separated by 1.37 seconds, so there

:04:55.:05:00.

is room for one of the late starters to come through and make an impact.

:05:01.:05:07.

I am not sure a medal is possible, but let's see. Chemmy Alcott is

:05:08.:05:16.

still to come, with bid number 34. It was a top six here for Fraenzi

:05:17.:05:25.

Aufdenblatten, an excellent run for such a late start number. It was a

:05:26.:05:32.

messy run and she was off-line many times, but she carried the speed.

:05:33.:05:40.

She will be delighted by skiing into six position.

:05:41.:06:30.

This is the comparison of first and second. You can see Maria

:06:31.:06:36.

Hoefl-Riesch with the stripes on her legs, right of screen. And Fenninger

:06:37.:06:42.

of Austria in the blue and white. Fenninger really got ahead of

:06:43.:06:49.

Hoefl-Riesch in this top section. She was a bit quicker and more

:06:50.:06:57.

dynamic. Straight into the tuck. This was where I thought Fenninger

:06:58.:07:02.

won. She stayed so low all the way down that flat section, almost

:07:03.:07:11.

refusing to come out of the tuck. Chemicals are being put on the

:07:12.:07:19.

course. It is starting to suffer under the baking sun now. It is

:07:20.:07:24.

holding up better than I thought it would. Hopefully, Chemmy Alcott will

:07:25.:07:34.

no that Fraenzi Aufdenblatten has skied into six position. That will

:07:35.:07:38.

give her confidence that the course is holding up well. Marie-Pier

:07:39.:07:56.

Prefontaine is looking for a nice, high line. A little mistake. That

:07:57.:08:10.

will have been costly. In the shade, it is difficult for

:08:11.:08:48.

the eyes to adjust. Prefontaine no so she has a tough part of the

:08:49.:08:54.

course coming up. Just to remind you, we have got the Russian next.

:08:55.:09:05.

And then the Klara Krizova and then Chemmy Alcott, racing in her final

:09:06.:09:11.

Olympic competition, started in bib 34 this morning at Rosa Khutor.

:09:12.:09:15.

Marie-Pier Prefontaine will be happy to finish, as so many have failed to

:09:16.:09:22.

do today. She places 18th place for the moment. She also went for a

:09:23.:09:37.

risky line coming into that jump. She had to make a fuel quick

:09:38.:09:54.

recoveries. The Russian crowd are going crazy for Elena Yakovishina,

:09:55.:10:00.

which is great. She will not hear them from this point, but as she

:10:01.:10:05.

comes into the jump, she will certainly hear them and push harder.

:10:06.:10:09.

It will be a great feeling to this youngster to race on home soil.

:10:10.:10:25.

There is nothing better. Yakovishina, fighting for all she's

:10:26.:10:30.

worth to stay online and clock a finish. She skis into 19th position

:10:31.:10:41.

for Russia. That is a good performance. She did well to hang in

:10:42.:10:45.

there, because she ran a risky line. When she landed, she was so

:10:46.:10:55.

close to that gate. Anna Fenninger is starting to talk to the media to

:10:56.:10:59.

discuss her Olympic gold. It could well be coming her way. Klara

:11:00.:11:19.

Krizova is taking its deadly at the top. That is the tricky part with

:11:20.:11:32.

Super-G. These gates come at you so quickly. There is no room for

:11:33.:11:36.

error. You have to be on the ball the whole way down. Chemmy Alcott is

:11:37.:12:02.

next to go for Great Britain. Krizova takes her bowel. -- barrel.

:12:03.:12:18.

Most number 34. Chemmy Alcott, from Great Britain, already 19th from the

:12:19.:12:28.

Olympic downhill. This is her final race, the Super-G. The top six are

:12:29.:12:38.

now separated by 1.27 seconds. Chemmy would love to finish with a

:12:39.:12:41.

top ten to round off her Olympic career to date the 11th she posted.

:12:42.:12:49.

Oh, Chemmy! It was so promising at the top. She was on fire, and she

:12:50.:12:54.

has had to fight to make it back. That was such a shame. She was in

:12:55.:13:02.

with a great shout. Her fourth Olympic winter games, her final

:13:03.:13:11.

race, and she is 20th. A couple of mistakes in the Super-G. But

:13:12.:13:20.

remarkable, following all the injuries and major crashes she has

:13:21.:13:25.

suffered. -- that she is here at all. Portal!

:13:26.:13:32.

-- and brutal. HAZEL IRVINE: we will leave it

:13:33.:13:37.

there, but it looks like a top 20 finish for Chemmy Alcott. If it is,

:13:38.:13:42.

that would be her eighth in four Olympic games. Congratulations to

:13:43.:13:46.

her and to Anna Fenninger of Austria. Looks like it will be a

:13:47.:13:51.

third gold in women's Super-G in a row for Austria. A remarkable run

:13:52.:13:56.

from Maria Hoefl-Riesch. I have seen nothing like that since Ski Sunday

:13:57.:14:04.

days in 2007, in the men's downhill in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. It is a

:14:05.:14:08.

frightening experience for any race on the course, and to have the

:14:09.:14:12.

composure to stay on her feet and ski to server is sensational. But I

:14:13.:14:18.

am sure there will be repercussions about that cause worker being so

:14:19.:14:22.

close to the gate halfway down the Super-G course. A very eventful and

:14:23.:14:27.

dramatic women's Super-G. Let's take a breather. Mind you, taking a

:14:28.:14:31.

breather and going to ice hockey are not the same thing. They reckon

:14:32.:14:35.

there were 100,000 people in the Olympic Park on Tuesday, and the

:14:36.:14:38.

main reason for that was the first appearance of the Russian men's ice

:14:39.:14:43.

hockey team. That is the gold that all of Russia wants more than

:14:44.:14:48.

anything else. We will be going at 12:35pm your time to see the

:14:49.:14:54.

grandstand match of the lot in the early stages, United States against

:14:55.:14:58.

Russia. With all of that historical baggage. You can see them piling

:14:59.:15:01.

into the Bolshoi Dome ahead of that already. But there was one match

:15:02.:15:08.

going on already in group A, the Slovenians against the Slovaks. It

:15:09.:15:13.

is Slovenia's debut in the Olympic games. Their men's team have not

:15:14.:15:18.

played in this before. They have won current NHL player in their team and

:15:19.:15:23.

his dad is the team coach. Slovakia are the surprise semifinalists in

:15:24.:15:26.

Vancouver this dog both sides lost their opening matches. The first

:15:27.:15:39.

period is under way now. Brent Pope and Seth Bennett are in charge once

:15:40.:15:43.

again. Thank you. You have not missed a

:15:44.:15:49.

great deal here. Just seven and a half minutes gone of the first

:15:50.:15:56.

period. It is 0-0. Both teams are looking to bounce back after first

:15:57.:16:02.

game defeats. The Slovakians will expect more of themselves. Their

:16:03.:16:09.

defeat by the USA equalled their worst ever result. The Slovenians

:16:10.:16:13.

are well drilled through their coach and they have a superstar. He could

:16:14.:16:24.

turn any game in this tournament. They wear the blue and the

:16:25.:16:28.

lime-green. We will see an awful lot of white, blue and red between the

:16:29.:16:34.

Russians, the Americans and the Slovakians. Slovenia go from right

:16:35.:16:40.

to left on the screen. A penalty coming for the stick lift. He will

:16:41.:16:49.

get the penalty and a powerplay coming the way of the plucky

:16:50.:16:57.

Slovenians. Just nips in behind to create this offensive opportunity

:16:58.:17:00.

for the Slovenians. Now you see the blue Angels make their way onto the

:17:01.:17:07.

ice and they will clean up and mock-up. The Slovakian defender sits

:17:08.:17:22.

down. -- they will mop up. It was a great little bit of service and

:17:23.:17:26.

there would have been room to beat him in the Slovakian goal. He will

:17:27.:17:39.

sit down for two minutes or less. The Slovenians scored two against

:17:40.:17:43.

the Russians, the host, obviously. That was an energetic match,

:17:44.:17:48.

particularly with the superstars on the show from the big red Army. Big

:17:49.:17:54.

chance for the Slovenians to open up their account. Lots of Slovakian

:17:55.:17:58.

support in the stand with those T-shirts, we are one team. The face

:17:59.:18:08.

off against the big frame. The captain has a huge presence on

:18:09.:18:35.

the ice. Offside rule is simple. The puck has to cross the blue line

:18:36.:18:43.

before any attacking player. If you go in first, you can find yourself

:18:44.:18:53.

caught offside. Five on four. That is the advantage they have over the

:18:54.:18:57.

course of the next 90 seconds. It is a slow build up in their own zone.

:18:58.:19:08.

Maybe now they will get a chance. Good move to move into the offensive

:19:09.:19:17.

zone. He loses a glove as well. The one gloved player.

:19:18.:19:28.

Trying to find a shooting opportunity. The one hand will feel

:19:29.:19:39.

exposed. The options are limited. Backhand

:19:40.:19:51.

shot through the crease. The rebound came out and it was saved. He was

:19:52.:20:03.

unable great place. Able to get across and take the near side as the

:20:04.:20:09.

big Slovakian defender almost serves a bit of a screen on that play. He

:20:10.:20:16.

is six foot nine. Tallest ever ice hockey player in the National Hockey

:20:17.:20:22.

League. One of the toughest too. If you want to have a fight, what do

:20:23.:20:30.

you do? He is a massive man. Not held in at the puck just crosses and

:20:31.:20:36.

that is why the whistle blows. The powerplay coming towards a close.

:20:37.:20:47.

You talk about the power of him, he represented Slovakia for Greco-Roman

:20:48.:20:53.

wrestling. He was always training his son TV strong and fit. I am not

:20:54.:21:00.

sure he expected him to grow to be the biggest ever ice hockey player,

:21:01.:21:03.

but he is powerful and also very powerful. Good win in the offensive

:21:04.:21:09.

zone. Tries to create something short-handed. He will play the puck.

:21:10.:21:20.

There is a problem on the ice here. The Florida panther remains on the

:21:21.:21:25.

ice. He is trying to make his way. He is in real pain there. That will

:21:26.:21:33.

be a big blow to the Slovakian team who have already lost a player in

:21:34.:21:41.

this tournament. He suffered a knee ligament damage and he is out of the

:21:42.:21:46.

tournament. This is really tough on the body because you play so much

:21:47.:21:52.

and you play very close matches, one after another. It is three in

:21:53.:21:54.

four-day is in the opening group stage. I think he went off mildly

:21:55.:22:00.

concussed. He struggled and fell to his knees. We will see how much we

:22:01.:22:07.

see of him. Now the captain cannot create anything. Those back the

:22:08.:22:20.

other way. Quick shot deflects well wide of the target. The Slovenians

:22:21.:22:31.

have given a great account of themselves in this tournament. They

:22:32.:22:35.

only have seven ice rinks in the whole of the country, a country of

:22:36.:22:42.

just less than 2 million. And under 200 registered adult players.

:22:43.:22:47.

Absolutely frightening. You can do the maths yourselves. The shotguns

:22:48.:22:57.

and. That is held on to -- the shot comes in. This is the play that

:22:58.:23:05.

leads to him being injured. It is a Slovenians some which.

:23:06.:23:07.

Unfortunately, he was the meet in the middle. He will go off, you can

:23:08.:23:17.

see him struggle. He is not... I am not sure where he is. He makes his

:23:18.:23:20.

way to the bench under his own power. Must be a horrible feeling

:23:21.:23:25.

when the legs just go. They will have to restructure their units, the

:23:26.:23:32.

Slovakians. Fascinating contest, this one. Between two signs who have

:23:33.:23:42.

not met that often. The Slovenians have never beaten these wacky and is

:23:43.:23:46.

-- never beaten the Slovakians. That will help us now the Slovenians

:23:47.:24:15.

send it deep into the zone. Just to put it in context, the Savini ends

:24:16.:24:18.

our 17th in the world. They qualified for the Olympic Games. --

:24:19.:24:30.

the Slovenians are 17th in the world. They have accelerated their

:24:31.:24:34.

programme and taken it to the next level and here they are. They were

:24:35.:24:41.

trying to full is at home. The rebound pops out again. In the end,

:24:42.:24:50.

the keeper was equal to it -- they were trying to force it home. The

:24:51.:24:57.

Slovakians were deemed a little bit too rough as they chased down the

:24:58.:25:02.

puck. They were good money, the Slovenians, against the Russians. As

:25:03.:25:09.

you watch this play again... I think it is head on head and it is a

:25:10.:25:18.

domino effect. You come in against it with that sort of speed, he does

:25:19.:25:29.

not know if here's here, there or anywhere. Not what you want to see,

:25:30.:25:39.

but it highlights how big these contacts are. You think they have

:25:40.:25:42.

loads of padding on, it does not hurt. Far from it. He is a big

:25:43.:25:47.

enough guide to leave you feeling a little rough after you have felt the

:25:48.:25:55.

contact. He is six foot three. The equipment designed to protect you is

:25:56.:25:59.

just as hard and capable of hurting you, particularly if it comes in in

:26:00.:26:04.

the vulnerable area and you get it to the side of your head where you

:26:05.:26:08.

are not entirely protected. The hard plastic coming in with forces like

:26:09.:26:17.

running into something. He gives position -- possession away.

:26:18.:26:31.

He is trying to create something. A nice pass. Marincin jumps in deep.

:26:32.:26:48.

Not too much help from the forward. He can clear again. The Slovenians

:26:49.:26:52.

are sniffing an opportunity here. Slovenia could get a result in this

:26:53.:27:12.

game. There is no doubt about that. Victory would be massive for their

:27:13.:27:16.

whole ice hockey Federation. I think they are warming to the task.

:27:17.:27:33.

They will chase after that but it will go all the way round. Good

:27:34.:27:42.

skater. Exchanges passes. Back to the blue line it goes. Shot all the

:27:43.:27:48.

way through traffic and easily played. His lateral movement follows

:27:49.:27:59.

the blue line across towards the middle of the ice, and there is the

:28:00.:28:07.

keeper, six says so far. He was there for the Russian match,

:28:08.:28:12.

conceded five. But that is not bad going against the superpower that is

:28:13.:28:17.

the host. This really is the order. I think everyone is looking forward

:28:18.:28:22.

to them bringing it into the offensive zone. Russia versus the

:28:23.:28:28.

USA, thoughts of 1980 and miracle online. -- miracle on ice.

:28:29.:28:42.

They have not moved the puck too well. That was well saved in the

:28:43.:28:52.

end. Anywhere will do for the Slovakians. They are struggling in

:28:53.:28:55.

this first period to get anything going. Anze Kopitar misses by quite

:28:56.:29:12.

some distance. We will get another faceoff. The Slovakians are missing

:29:13.:29:18.

another player as well. And offensive superpower. Unfortunately,

:29:19.:29:27.

he is injured. He was a part of the 25 man squad but had to accept he

:29:28.:29:30.

was not going to be healthy, suffering a collarbone injury in

:29:31.:29:36.

December, just ahead of Christmas. He scored three goals in the Super

:29:37.:29:44.

League and he would have no doubt help the Slovakians to get going as

:29:45.:29:48.

they are spluttering at the moment. Up and under sent away. His stick

:29:49.:29:58.

has broken into. Explain what these sticks are made. They are of

:29:59.:30:02.

composite material. Sometimes cavil. To put it into context... Shooting

:30:03.:30:09.

opportunity as it goes well wide of the target -- kevlar. I am not sure

:30:10.:30:18.

they are any more durable than they were.

:30:19.:30:31.

Road blocked by Kopitar. Now Kopitar will bring it forward for the

:30:32.:30:35.

Slovenians. Another good save from Kristan.

:30:36.:31:20.

Quick reaction all the way through. Kristan will hang on a bit. Now we

:31:21.:31:36.

get a bit of pushing and shoving. The face wash is generally seen in

:31:37.:31:42.

international way as the best way to show disrespect, to get your glove

:31:43.:31:55.

up in the opponent's face. They kind of hurt the day afterwards, when you

:31:56.:32:02.

have an ablation across your face, and the salt gets into it, and it

:32:03.:32:07.

starts to sting. Not many things staying more than ice hockey gloves,

:32:08.:32:12.

for whatever reason. It is fairly unpleasant. They never get a chance

:32:13.:32:17.

to properly dry, as they are constantly in use -- they stink.

:32:18.:32:36.

The ayes to the right a big battle on the boards here. Another penalty

:32:37.:32:50.

coming. He does not know what he has done wrong. But I think it was an

:32:51.:32:57.

obvious one for the referee. I think he does know what he has done wrong,

:32:58.:33:00.

he is just wishing he had not done it. Just to follow up about sticks,

:33:01.:33:10.

they are made of a composite resin. They are about ?152 in value each

:33:11.:33:16.

and they break consistently, so an expensive piece of kit, for sure.

:33:17.:33:20.

Can the Slovenians finish with a goal before the end of the period?

:33:21.:33:38.

There was a sniff of a chance. For a moment, it was just sat there,

:33:39.:33:52.

waiting to be picked up on the right-hand side. We saw a

:33:53.:33:57.

heartbreaker yesterday. The Swedes ended up winning the game in a 1-0

:33:58.:34:03.

scoreline against the Swiss, and it was an outstanding game by one of

:34:04.:34:08.

their players, but he for one moment just lapsed in concentration.

:34:09.:34:20.

Similar sort of play there. Kopitar takes the face-off, and Slovakia,

:34:21.:34:25.

where with it. They are happy to send it down the ice. They are just

:34:26.:34:29.

trying to kill tiny here, as they skate with one player fewer.

:34:30.:34:52.

They are trying to force an opportunity. The Slovakians are

:34:53.:34:57.

stretched. Kopitar swings away. Then they go gadget arm of Chara

:34:58.:35:23.

comes out and knocks it. The crowd are getting behind the Slovenian

:35:24.:35:24.

team. Very close, but no goals in the

:35:25.:35:43.

first 20 minutes here, as Slovakia and Slovenia remained tied at 0-0.

:35:44.:35:52.

HAZEL IRVINE: that continues on the red button live after their break.

:35:53.:35:58.

The second period will be coming up shortly. Many of the Russian crowds

:35:59.:36:04.

that are piling into the Olympic Park this morning see this as an

:36:05.:36:07.

appetiser for the main event. There they are, having their pictures

:36:08.:36:11.

taken with the Olympic rings. Thousands are streaming into the

:36:12.:36:15.

park this morning. It is an appetiser for Russia against the

:36:16.:36:18.

United States in the men's ice hockey. That will face-off at

:36:19.:36:23.

12:35pm, your time, this afternoon. The whole of Russia and much of

:36:24.:36:28.

America can hardly wait for that. It will bring back all kinds of memory

:36:29.:36:32.

is of great matches in the past two in them and a lot of historical

:36:33.:36:36.

baggage to boot. Great Britain's women were up early today to play

:36:37.:36:41.

South Korea in the curling. We were on air at 5am, your time, to see it.

:36:42.:36:56.

And we have news. Jackie Lockhart and Steve Cram can describe it for

:36:57.:37:01.

us now. Still every opportunity, but they

:37:02.:37:08.

have got to play a good end here. Korea have done well to drag

:37:09.:37:13.

themselves back into this. There were a couple of mistakes from Eve

:37:14.:37:16.

Muirhead. She has to make sure she bends these shots. She was trailing

:37:17.:37:22.

one down, but she does have the hammer. If you were to ask the

:37:23.:37:32.

teams, would you prefer to be one down with the hammer against other

:37:33.:37:41.

scenarios, they have the opportunity here. Just have to keep their head.

:37:42.:37:52.

Bill Phil of them have slipped off a bit recently. -- or four of them

:37:53.:37:59.

have slipped. They have dropped down to 75% from the position when they

:38:00.:38:13.

were shooting in the 80s earlier. First guard put up.

:38:14.:38:51.

Just tucks that one in. We always know it comes down to the last

:38:52.:39:06.

couple of stones. It is inevitable. Whatever the result here, even if

:39:07.:39:09.

Great Britain come away with the win, they might look back on this

:39:10.:39:13.

game and know they have not played as well as the last couple of

:39:14.:39:19.

matches. Sometimes, if you are not playing well, you have still got to

:39:20.:39:24.

stick in there. There is every chance of winning this, despite not

:39:25.:39:31.

playing well. There have just been a couple of slack shots from Eve. That

:39:32.:39:38.

is the most difficult, when the skip does not have a good shot. There is

:39:39.:39:42.

nobody else to help you out of that sticky situation. This game is still

:39:43.:39:55.

all in their hands. Korea are going to remove this corner guard. I think

:39:56.:40:03.

that is the one she has got to go for. Don't panic and take the ones

:40:04.:40:06.

in the house. Just caught it. Not the best shot.

:40:07.:40:37.

She would have preferred to have caught that more across the face of

:40:38.:40:50.

these other shots. So, Vicki Adams is going to try and protect that

:40:51.:40:55.

read that are Great Britain girls have.

:40:56.:41:02.

We are OK! Don't panic, girls! Headshot. -- headshot. Good to hear

:41:03.:41:22.

Anna Sloan telling her, we are OK. To get answers from your team to

:41:23.:41:33.

ease the tension. Confirmation that you are throwing it OK, believe in

:41:34.:41:41.

yourself. This needs to turn as well.

:41:42.:42:03.

Once Korea chose to take this, you can see the disappointment on her

:42:04.:42:10.

face. She had to corner freeze that. If she was not going to make that

:42:11.:42:14.

shot, they should have taken the corner guard off. That is our only

:42:15.:42:22.

opportunity to try and score a two, unless somebody misses everything.

:42:23.:42:32.

That one is hanging on. Excellent for us. It is building now. Four

:42:33.:43:00.

stones for each team. This looks like a really big line. It is on the

:43:01.:43:23.

wrong side. That is two almost identical stones played by Korea.

:43:24.:43:27.

Once more, giving Great Britain another chance to hit and rollover.

:43:28.:43:39.

It has been a bit of an up-and-down morning for Anna Sloan.

:43:40.:43:55.

They swept that well. That was a bit tight. She would have preferred to

:43:56.:44:08.

have got a bit more of a space between them. But she has done the

:44:09.:44:14.

first job in hand, which was to get the Yellowstone removed.

:44:15.:44:26.

They are making it hard for us to remove that yellow, but we are going

:44:27.:44:54.

to try and corner freeze it again. And needs to help her skip out here.

:44:55.:45:00.

This has got to be a good shot. Eve Muirhead needs to win this match.

:45:01.:45:15.

This has got to be spot on. We can't bump. Eve Muirhead says, we can't

:45:16.:45:22.

bump. It has got a bit of weight here. Needs to stop right there.

:45:23.:45:31.

That is a good shot. That is a nice shot. Just give Eve the chance, that

:45:32.:45:40.

is the main thing. Give her the chance and it is up to her than. --

:45:41.:45:51.

then. The Korean skip who really struggled early on, Kim Ji-sun, has

:45:52.:45:59.

been doing better. She will hope to hit this and push the red. But

:46:00.:46:20.

again, she has to execute the shot. If she is high at all, she will jam

:46:21.:46:26.

the red. It does look high. Definitely looking high.

:46:27.:46:45.

Eve just needs a good execution here. Of course, Kim Ji-sun, given

:46:46.:46:58.

the way she has been playing, Eve wants to hit and roll. They would be

:46:59.:47:10.

lying two. I think she would like to fit and roll away from the centre so

:47:11.:47:16.

there is no protection there for Korea to use. -- hit and roll. She

:47:17.:47:26.

does have a little bit of insurance of the stone behind if she sits in

:47:27.:47:38.

front of that. Hard! Hard! This needs to be good. It needs to fit

:47:39.:47:47.

that across. It is not bad. -- it needs to hit that. It all comes down

:47:48.:47:55.

to this, as ever. One stone left for each team. Written needing the two

:47:56.:48:03.

for the win. One would tie it up and we would have an extra end and Korea

:48:04.:48:07.

would have the hammer in the extra end. -- written needing the two for

:48:08.:48:11.

the win. She is looking at trying to catch

:48:12.:48:26.

half of that red and then roll across onto the face of the other

:48:27.:48:34.

red. If she does not catch it right and rolls across onto the face of

:48:35.:48:47.

that red... Eve would have a free draw for a two and win the game.

:48:48.:48:53.

Absolutely. Bigshot here for Kim Ji-sun. -- big shot. She has been

:48:54.:49:02.

better in the last two or three ends. She is playing the draw here.

:49:03.:49:09.

I thought that was what she had called originally.

:49:10.:49:25.

As you can see, I don't need to tell you, that is a match-winning

:49:26.:49:35.

opportunity for Eve Muirhead. She just needs to come in, tap the

:49:36.:49:46.

Korean stone back and light two. -- lie two. She needed to be hired

:49:47.:49:55.

their -- higher there. Bread-and-butter shot for Eve

:49:56.:49:57.

Muirhead. Yes, it is to win the match. We need to throw the light

:49:58.:50:07.

line and the right weight. The final stone, we hope, of this match. If

:50:08.:50:13.

Eve judges this right, it will be another win. Korea sitting with a

:50:14.:50:19.

shot in place and Eve Muirhead just needs to make sure they sweep it

:50:20.:50:23.

past the yellow stone at the front. It is pulling across. A nice little

:50:24.:50:28.

tap back. Well played by Eve Muirhead. Once again, the British

:50:29.:50:34.

skip comes good when she needs to and once again it is another

:50:35.:50:38.

victory. Three in a row for GB's women. Just a little jittery moment

:50:39.:50:45.

in the ninth but they came out on top again. That will give them an

:50:46.:50:51.

awful lot of confidence as they go away for a few hours. They will be

:50:52.:50:55.

back again for the evening session here and could put themselves in a

:50:56.:51:00.

fabulous position if they beat Switzerland tonight. So far, so

:51:01.:51:06.

good. A win over Korea and they have got four wins from their first six

:51:07.:51:10.

matches. That must be a bit of a relief in the end, after the steal

:51:11.:51:16.

of two in the ninth? Yes, it was not ideal. But they came back strong.

:51:17.:51:24.

They like machines, the Koreans. They are fighting for their lives so

:51:25.:51:27.

it is good to get one up on them. The last end was good. Close to

:51:28.:51:34.

100%. That is what we need to do. If we can play well under that

:51:35.:51:37.

pressure, it will put a good marker down for the rest of our games. That

:51:38.:51:41.

has been a feature of the last three matches. When you have got to that

:51:42.:51:45.

stage where the opportunity has presented itself, you have taken it.

:51:46.:51:49.

That is the skip's job, to perform under pressure. And the same for

:51:50.:51:56.

mind team. -- my team. They played great and left me a shot full two in

:51:57.:52:02.

the match. Really happy. We have just got to sharpen up on a few bits

:52:03.:52:06.

and bobs for this afternoon. Early games are never easy. We came out

:52:07.:52:15.

shot. Three in a row. The night is a competitor you know very well. They

:52:16.:52:19.

have had a difficult time and have lost three in a row. A good time to

:52:20.:52:26.

play them? For sure. They are not on the way up. If anything, they are

:52:27.:52:30.

slowly dropping off. If we can get a good winter night, it will put them

:52:31.:52:34.

down fighting. It is going to be tough -- a good win tonight. But it

:52:35.:52:40.

will be tough. We have got to come out shot and sharper in the second

:52:41.:52:45.

half than in the last game. If we can pull together and play the way

:52:46.:52:50.

we can, we will definitely put up a good fight. Well done. HAZEL IRVINE:

:52:51.:53:00.

The Great Britain team will be playing Switzerland at about 3pm

:53:01.:53:04.

your time. That is the table right now. GB are joint second with

:53:05.:53:17.

Sweden. I can tell you that we are very much looking forward to

:53:18.:53:20.

welcoming Great Britain's 10th Winter Olympic champion Lizzie

:53:21.:53:26.

Yarnold into the studio in around ten minutes time. She will be

:53:27.:53:31.

popping in. She has a busy schedule of interviews. There has been so

:53:32.:53:35.

much reaction. We are looking forward to talking to her. Until we

:53:36.:53:36.
